Compare And Contrast Donald Trump And Bernie Sanders
Drustin Cole
March 4, 2016
ENGL 1010
Miller Bernie Sanders versus Donald Trump Election year is upon the American public once again.
Time for televised debates between politicians clamoring for their party s spot on the presidential
race. Time for billboards and commercials attempting to garner public support and sympathy, and
time for issues facing the American public to be brought to the forefront of the American
consciousness. Amongst the many varied politicians attempting to run for president, two have been
interesting enough to try and compare and contrast between them: Donald Trump and Bernie
Sanders. Donald Trump is the current front runner of the Republican Party, whilst Sanders... Show

So then, what of the Democrat nominee he is being compared against? Bernie Sanders is
currently second behind Hillary Clinton in the polls yet he already has his own passionate
following, with his own agendas and positions on foreign policy, social issues, and the economy.
Bernie s campaign so far has been primarily regarding the economy, and his campaign neatly ties
in the economy of the country with its foreign policy and social issues. The most prominent of
these issues that Sanders rails against is obviously the inequality between the various classes in
America, between the rich and the poor. Sanders still addresses racial violence and LGBT rights
on his main website, as is obvious given the stance of the Democratic party as a whole on these
issues, but class inequality is still the primary issue of his campaign, at least until recently
(BernieSanders). In a debate held in the Democratic town hall of South Carolina, as reported by
Daniel Marans of the Huffington Post, Sanders began to emphasize racial issues in his campaign
in an attempt to appeal to the minority vote similar to Clinton (The Huffington Post). Previously,
it can be assumed that any talk of racial or minority issues would have eventually rounded back
to economic inequality, as the two are often intertwined in practice. This emphasis on the
economy is the singular defining aspect of Sanders s political campaign and everything else
always ends up tying back into this. Sanders s foreign policy has been considered to be quite
sound, by sources such as U.S News, as it ties in the local and political spheres with the economic
ones (Ian Hurd). Sanders weighs the cost of each action, and how it will affect individuals on the
local economic level. Military intervention may serve American interests in the short run, but what
about the long term destabilization of the

Life Has Changed My Life
Every 30 years (with some exceptions) lives are dramatically changed as the result of a beautiful
phenomenon. On August 21, 2017, at 1:17 PM, I would be one of those lucky ones whose lives
are transformed. It would be a monumental experience that would shake my life and thousands of
others for as long as they lived. My sister, my Father and I would drive all the way from
Washington, DC to Charleston, South Carolina. Sitting on the tan, leather seats of our black
Toyota land cruiser, it was the kind of day when your legs would stick to the seats from the
summer heat, but it was also the day we would begin our trek. We would leave the comfort of
our home to view the Great American Eclipse from Charleston, South Carolina. A few hours
later, straining my neck to look all the way up a smiling Pedro s face on a statue, it was obvious
that we had reached South of the Border. The air was thick and hot, it made us Marylanders
lethargic. Only three more hours... My dad unenthusiastically yelled to us. South of the border
had marked about 75 percent of hour drive there. Guyssss get upppp, My dad groggily tried to
stir me and my sister from a peaceful slumber, although he himself tired too. Last night s late
arrival in South Carolina had left us all drained, especially the driver my Dad, who was trying to
make sure we didn t sleep through the eclipse! Once we

Smell Disorders
Trailer Stop and smell the roses is a famous idiomatic reference many make when they want to
convey the importance of appreciating the beauty of life. But have any of us imagined what it
may be like to NOT smell the roses or anything for that matter? Humans often take their sense of
smell for granted, as they rely more heavily on sight and sound in day to day activities. Yet smell
in my opinion can be such an important aspect of life as the brain has the capability to associate
smells with danger and it can even elicit memories. For example, the odorof smoke notifies us that
something dangerous could be happening, or walking into a bakery with the smell of fresh
chocolate chip cookies can cause pleasure, bringing back childhood memories... Show more content

The most common causes include head injury (common in young adults) and viral infections or
Alzheimer disease in older adults ( Loss of Smell Ear,Nose, and Throat Disorders ). Head
injuries may result in anosmia due to damage or destruction to the fibers of the olfactory nerves
where they pass through the roof of the nasal cavity. Sometimes injuries may also cause a fracture
to the cribriform plate ( Loss of Smell Ear,Nose, and Throat Disorders ). Infections and tumors near
the cribriform plate also can damage the olfactory nerve. Some less common causes of anosmia
include the overuse of antibiotics ,which may kill off all the olfactory neurons at once. If the cause
is due to sinus infections or irritation, doctors may suggest a treatment of steam inhalation, nasal
sprays, antibiotics, and occasionally surgery. If a tumor near the cribriform is causing the individual
to lack olfactory abilities, then surgical removal and radiation is typically the course of treatment.
However, in causes where anosmia resulted from head trauma or undiagnosed causes there are no
current treatment options.

Dionysian And Apollinian
In Nietzsche s The Birth of Tragedy, the two impulses, Dionysian and Apollinian are identified.
Dionysian is described as irrational, chaotic; to follow your emotions, your heart no matter how
irrational your decision may be, it is what Schopenhauer defines as will (people wants). It is
brought up with festivals that occurred in Rome and the tradition continued all the way to Babylon.
In these festivals, people would dance until they couldn t stand, not knowing where they were
going or why they were dancing. Apollinian is described as following facts, science; think with
reason, or anything that is apart of a thing s individuality. Sculptures are seen as Apollinian because
they have a form and were shaped which talks shows their individuality.

Chickenpox is also known as the varicella zoster virus; it belongs to the herpes family of viruses.
Despite the name, chickenpox is only carried, transmitted and contracted by humans.
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS
The most well known symptom of chickenpox is a red, blistery rash that starts on the upper half
of the body. Portions of the rash generally appear in waves, totaling 250 to 500 lesions. Blisters

TREATMENT
Treatment involves keeping the person as comfortable as possible. Here are things to try: * Avoid
scratching or rubbing the itchy areas. Keep fingernails short to avoid damaging the skin from
scratching. * Wear cool, light, loose bedclothes. Avoid wearing rough clothing, particularly wool,
over an itchy area. * Take lukewarm baths using little soap and rinse thoroughly. Try a skin
soothing oatmeal or cornstarch bath. * Apply a soothing moisturizer after bathing to soften and
cool the skin. * Avoid prolonged exposure to excessive heat and humidity. * Try over the counter
oral antihistamines such as diphenhydramine (Benadryl), but be aware of possible side effects such
as drowsiness. * Try over the counter hydrocortisone cream on itchy areas.
Medications that fight the chickenpox virus are available but not given to everyone. To work well,
the medicine usually must be started within the first 24 hours of the rash. * Antiviral medication is
not usually prescribe to otherwise healthy children who do not have severe symptoms. Adults and
teens, who are at risk for more severe symptoms, may benefit from antiviral medication if it is given
early. * Antiviral medication may be very important in those who have skin conditions (such as
eczema or recent sunburn), lung conditions (such as asthma), or

Nature Effects In The Myth, Icarus And The Poem,
Nature effects both the myth, Icarus and Daedalus, and the poem, Icarus, in many ways. Some
examples of this are the heat of the sun, birds and the ocean.
In the myth, Daedalus was watching seagulls fly around and got an idea. As said in the myth,
...watching the seagulls... he thought of a plan for himself and his young son Icarus, who was
captive with him. He got inspiration from nature on a way to escape the island he and his son,
Icarus, were trapped on.
Both the myth and the poem stress how Icarus fell when he flew too close to the sun, causing the
wax keeping the wings together to melt. The poem mentions this in the second stanza, Did he rail at
the sun, which beckoned enticingly, and the changed from a beacon to a furnace? Since

Ldh Lab Report
Optimum pH determination
Enzymatic activity is effected by different environmental conditions; these environmental factors
have a direct impact on whether the enzyme will catalyse the reaction tested or if the environment
does not permit enzyme activity. One environmental factor that effects enzymatic activity is pH. All
enzymes have an optimal environment where the enzyme is most efficient, this environment can
even contribute to the function of the enzyme. For LDH the optimal pH would be a pH that
results in a rapid conversion of pyruvate and NADH to lactate and NAD+. Based on the
experiment the optimal pH of LDH shown in figure 2 is 10.5. This suggests that LDH for
conversion of pyruvate to lactate works best in basic/alkaline conditions. ... Show more content on

All enzymes have an optimal temperature where activity is the most productive. If the
temperature of the enzymes environment is too low or too high, the enzyme and the substrate
will not interact in a desired way which results in decreased activity. High temperatures of
enzymes lead to high energy bonds breaking, thus altering the active site and overall enzyme by
denaturation. If an enzyme temperature is too low the lack of activity may be due to lack of
energy for substrate to interact with enzyme. By this knowledge it is expected that a temperature
rate plot of an enzyme should result in a bell curve with the optimal temperature being the highest
point. Based on the results of figure 3, this is the case the muscle LDH forms a bell curve with the
optimal temperature for activity being 60oC. This may seem to be a large temperature value but
what can be noted is that LDH is most active during anaerobic activity which can be induced by
exercise which causes the increase in temperature in muscle cells. The literature value for the
optimal temperature is 55oC. The comparison between the experimental LDH and the literature
LDH are almost the same thus the temperature rate profile is a successful method for testing the
optimal temperature. Slight experimental errors may have occurred due to inaccuracy of the water
baths to raise the temperature of LDH and keep it on an exact temperature. Temperatures that are

The Power of the Family in White Noise Essay examples
The Power of the Family in White Noise
Don Dellilo s protagonist in his novel White Noise, Jack Gladney, has a nuclear family that is,
ostensibly, a prime example of the disjointed nature way of the family of the 80 s and 90 s what
with Jack s multiple past marriages and the fact that his children aren t all related. It s basically the
antipodal image of the 1950 s nuclear family. Despite this surface level disjointedness, it is his
family and the extrasensory rapport that he shares with them allows Jack to survive in his world.
Murray, Jack s friend, argues that The family is strongest where objective realityis most likely to be
misinterpreted (82). Heinrich, Jack s son, explicates this notion in his constant ... Show more

So in recounting the smell of panties etc., and viewing such encounters with either irony, sympathy
and fond amusement, Jack is able not only to affirm the present and escape the past, but
accomplishes something much larger: namely the ability to affirm the realness of such feelings.
Thus the family, in this instance Babette, serves as the medium through which Jack is able to
overcome Heinrich s skepticism (which is representative of modern science (24)) as to the reality of
human emotions. DeLillo s image, moreover, of Jack and Babette rescuing themselves from the
past also suggests that without family or someone to commune with, man can become lost in the
past.
DeLillo s novel is almost obsessively concerned with appliances: TVs, radios, microwaves etc.
They are omnipresent, not only in the characters worlds but within the narrative itself. DeLillo
repeatedly interrupts his narrative with sentences like The TV said: And other trends that could
dramatically impact our portfolio (61) or MasterCard, Visa, American Express (100) or That
chirping sound was just the radiator (94). Just as Jack s world is one suffused with such objects,
so too is the narrative, a technique which DeLillo uses to force the reader into Jack Gladney s
world. Objects play a dualistic role in Jack s familial life. Jack tells us that

writer. She started her career in the 1960s as a teacher and the editor of the business journal
Rupee Trade, which she ran for 32 years. Those were the days of extreme poverty but she

The Pros And Cons Of Uniforms In Schools
School uniforms: a debate that has been tossed back and forth for years now. The percentage of
schools that necessitate uniforms and the percentage of the ones that do not are approximately
equal. This conveys a dispute that is difficult to find a definite solution for, due to the ambiguous
negatives and positives being drawn between both arguments. Uniforms being a part of school
systems became widespread first after Long Beach, California implemented them into their
elementary and middle schools. It is safe to say that since then, schools have become far more
lenient with what restrictions students have when it comes to uniforms. However, some others

It creates a unified community that has no economic or social barriers relating to clothing. To
empathize the point being made, it should be known that hectoring youth can lead to both physical
and emotional stress, depression, and in extreme cases, even death. When the threats of bullying are
so prominent in a teenager s life, precautions must be made.
Accepting uniforms in a school will help it present itself in a more professional and safe manner.
For instance, if someone were to come up to the school requesting entrance wearing clothing
previously banned, it would be a cause for suspicion. This could assist schools in being more
efficient in the event of a lockdown or emergency. Meanwhile, schools are still being regularly
threatened to date; a study states
In addition, school uniforms are generally a benefit for parents, economically. With uniforms
having the same style every year, albeit with occasional leniencies, there is not much cause for
buying new uniforms yearly besides from a child growing. Without a school uniform, teenagers
quickly tire of what they wear to school and want to get new clothes around every month. This is
due to students wanting to stay with the times and the latest trends. In the logic of the adolescent
mind, if you have the latest clothes, then it will boost your reputation and status on the school map,
and so a time consuming cycle is forged. This would cost the parents more of their salary that could

The Sunni-Shia Conflict
The historic background of the Sunni Shia lies in the schism that occurred when the Islamic
prophet Mohammed died in the 632, leading to a dispute over succession to Mohammed as a
caliph of the Islamic community spread across various parts of the world, which led to the battel of
Safin. The dispute intensified greatly after the battle of Karbala, in which Hussein ibn ail and his
household were killed by the ruling Umayyad caliph Yazidi, and the outcry for revenge divided the
early Islamic community. Today, there are differences in religious practice, traditions, and customs,
often related to jurisprudence. Although all Muslims groups consider the Quran to be divine, Sunni
and Shia have different opinions on hadith.

Shia Islam: Shia Islam encompasses most Muslims who are not counted the Sunni. The division

Ground Water Contamination and Household Response in...
There are two sources of drinking water, surface water and ground water and they are each
managed, monitored and regulated differently even though the actual water systems are interrelated
and integrated. The state of Missouri has historically had plenty of high quality fresh water sources;
in the northern half of the state most of the drinking watercomes from surface water while the
majority of the southern population gets water from underground aquifers (Missouri Department
of Natural Resources, 2010). The Missouri River and its alluvium wells provide more than half of
the state s residents with drinking water as most of the urban centers in the state are located along
its course. Water from wells located adjacent to the Missouri River... Show more content on

The contamination was ultimately found to be Escherichia coli 0157:H7 commonly referred to as
E. coli or EC0157. Investigations by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the
Missouri state and county public health departments determined the most probable source of
contamination was leakage of sewage near broken water main lines that then entered the drinking
water distribution system (Swerdlow et al, 1992). According to the report by Swerdlow et al
(1992), this particular incident had the distinction of being not only the largest incidence of
EC0157 infection at that time but also the first due to a multiple resistant organism, and the first
documented to be transmitted by water (Swerdlow et al, 1992, p. 818). Testing of water taken
directly from the wells in Cabool revealed the water contamination did not occur in the ground
water itself but was initiated in and then distributed via the water supply system. The Cabool
contamination could have been prevented had the town followed the recommended standard
procedure of hyperchlorination immediately after water line breaks or repairs (Swerdlow et el,
1992). It is common for water systems to have small leaks but they usually do not result in
contamination as the positive flow of water pressure prevents inward infiltration of the system but
when there are breaks in the lines and pressure is lost, contamination can flow back into the water
lines.

Lang and Patel both have different ideas of what strategy should be implemented in India. The
target customer is a major difference where Patel wants to focus on the low end brushes for first
time users, when Lang thinks it is better to concentrate on mid range brushes and battery operated
products for customers with higher income. The three primary messages that the company uses to
market their products are:
1) Persuading consumers to brush for the first time
2) Increasing the incidence of brushing and
3) Persuading consumers to upgrade to midrange or premium products.
Patel, who wants to focus on reaching consumers buying the low end products, essentially needs to
imbue most of the advertising budget into the first message, which persuades consumers to brush
for the first time. This is because 50% of Indians are not concerned with preventing or curing
dental problems, especially in rural areas, if she aims to significantly improve sales she needs to
educate these customers on the importance of oral hygiene. By educating this group, Cottle can
capture this demographic and make a great profit. It is essential to start with this huge demographic
of Indians who do not use tooth brushes to turn them into lifelong customers who will later on
purchase more advanced dental products to

Difference between the US and UK Politial Systems
Possibly the most essential difference amid the United States and United Kingdom political systems
is the constitution or the absence of one. The United States has a written constitution as does a
large majority of nation states. The British do not have a distinct article called the constitution but
in its place its constitutional necessities are scattered over numerous Acts of Parliament. The United
States Constitutionis difficult to adjust and in present political conditions, maybe impracticable to
change in any significant respect. The Equal Rights Amendment which fought to provide equal
rights for women failed and there has been no victorious amendment of the US Constitution except
for one technical measure since 1971. What for realistic purposes constitutes the British
Constitution numerous Acts of Parliament can be altered by a simple majority in the legislature.
For example, the current Government presented set terms for the House of Commons by passing
the needed legislation. In the United States, political dialogue regularly makes references to the
constitution, usually Republicans arguing that Democratic proposals are Unlawful . Above and
beyond the fact that the United Kingdomdoes not obtain a constitution as such, it is uncommon for
British politicians to dispute that the actions or proposals of their opponents are unlawful. An
essential characteristic of the American constitution is the firm separation of the power of the
administrative, the legislature

Nuclear Power Essay example
Since the end of the last century, the development of modern technology and science has played a
significant role as measure to resolve energy crisis and global warming issues which resulted in
life sustaining remedies and causes of mass destruction. However, many scientists agree that the
earth s fossil fuel supplies are dramatically depleting and this challenge will be a meaningful hurdle

This essay will argue that nuclear power will not be a sustainable energy source of 21st century for
three main reasons. These include high cost of generating nuclear power, health effects of
radiation and long term impact of radioactive waste on the environment as well as present its
disadvantages and compare it to renewable energy sources of solar power and wind power.
Public perception on nuclear energy is much influenced by subjective impressions mostly formed
through sensational and dramatic news of mass media or anti nuclear groups. However, nuclear
experts, those who have more relevant knowledge and information about nuclear energy, may have
reasonable opinion based on scientific facts or inferences. Thus their opinion and consensus should
be examined and taken into account during the process of nuclear energy policy formulation. For
the purpose of eliciting experts opinion, the web based on line survey system (eBOSS) was
developed. Using the survey system, experts views on nuclear energy were tallied, analyzed and
compared with the public s. Based on the survey results, the paper suggests some recommendations
about the future direction of the public information program in Korea.
First of all, it would appear that the obvious drawback of nuclear power is its high economic cost

Ancient Egyptian Influence on Modern Religion Essay
Egypt is considered the birthplace of many world religions. It contains some of the oldest religious
artifacts, texts, and art that can be traced to modern religions. Signs of early Egyptian religion date
back to the Predynastic period, beginning with evidence of polytheistic worship. Many scholars
have researched the development of Ancient Egyptian religionover the centuries and have studied
the direct correlation between it and the modern religions of Judaism and Christianity. Questions
arise as to whe Judaism developed because of social and political conditions of Ancient Egyptor

Ptah was also a creator god who built the boats that carried the souls of the dead into the
Underworld. Osiris was the ruler of the Underworld and husband to Isis, the goddess of fertility
and the ideal wife. Isis song, Horus, was the god of the sky and depicted with a hawk like head
often portrayed with a double crown. These deities were worshipped daily by the Egyptians in
temples built by the ruling pharaoh and his priests. The pharaoh was viewed as the intermediary
between the deities and his people. Through his kingship and divine power, he was expected to
maintain universal peace and order. Egyptians also underwent extensive and excessive processes to

rooted in ancient Egyptian religion where funerary processes and burial rituals were fundamental

From the persecution of Christ by the Romans to the acceptance of Christianity as the imperial

Difference Between Truth And Story Truth
I want you to feel what I felt. I want you to know why story truth is truer sometimes than
happening truth (O Brien 171). When telling a story, people often exaggerate details, characters
and other events in the story in order to make it more interesting. Why do people do this? Do they
do it because they feel that the story lacked something and needs to be expanded upon, or is it
something else. This way of telling a story is especially prevalent in Tim O Brien s book The
Things They Carried, which is a collection of stories about the Vietnam war. Throughout the text, O
Brien uses repetition, oxymorons, and imagery to illustrate the differences between story truthand
happening truth to the reader. In order for something to be ingrained... Show more content on

When O Brien defines story truth and happening truth, he often uses oxymorons to establish the
point that these two ideas are extremely complicated. When O Brien uses an oxymoron, it s
usually when he wants to make a point on the fact that both of these truths aren t exactly true,
like when he says, In many cases a true war story cannot be believed. If you believe it, be
skeptical. It s a question of credibility. Often the crazy stuff is true and the normal stuff isn t,
because the normal stuff is necessary to make you believe the truly incredible craziness. (68).
What he is essentially saying is, when creating a story, adding believable parts is neccessary for
a story to make sense. Another time he explains that regardless of how good a story seems to be,
there has to be parts made up because a true war story is never good, A true war story is never
moral. It does not instruct, nor encourage virtue, nor suggest models of proper human behavior,
... If a story seems moral, do not believe it. If at the end of a war story you feel uplifted, ... then
you have been made the victim of a very old and terrible lie (O Brien 65). This leads back in to
the differences between happening and story truth, by explaing the way that story truth is used to
ground a story in reality for a reader, rather than simply expanding on details like in happening
truths. O Briens use of Oxymorons, although rarely used, show that he is fully aware of the

The Case Of Harvey And Capability Limited
The Case of Harvey and Capability Limited
Before analysing, Harvey needs to be advised that there are two known clauses that exist in a
contract; limitation clause and exclusion clause. He needs to understand that there is a difference
between both of these clauses. When there is a breach of the contract, the limitation clause that
is relied on in a contract and enforced would make an effort to pay for certain damages. This can
only be used as an indicator for Harvey to recognise their differences, but, it will not be explained
any further as the enquiry made is only related to exclusion clause. Capability Limited is a private
limited company that has subcontracted a sole proprietor, Reckless Enterprise. As the damages
were done by Reckless Enterprise, with the matter of who is liable to pay for it, the court needs to
look deep into the consequences of Capability Limited and how Reckless Enterprise was included
in the Memorandum as a third party.
Exclusion Clauses
If the contract is breached, the party relying on the exclusion clauses will not be responsible for
paying for any damages (Treitel, 1995). If the document does not have any intention for the
contract, exclusion clause will not be bound. As it can only be defined in this manner, Harvey also

The Role Of Orientalism In The Tragedy Of Mariam
Political tyranny and male female relationships in Elizabeth Cary s The Tragedy of Mariam (1613)
and Mary Pix s Ibrahim, the Thirteenth Emperor of the Turks (1696).
Orientalism has inspired and still does many works, in many ways, be it literary or any other art
forms. Orientalism could be used as a way to express a desire for the exotic, for sensuality, but at
the same time, it could be used in a darker way as well. A persistent image of the Orient is one
where women, even more than in sixteenth century England, were subdued by men, with little
freedom for themselves. On top of that, the other side of the exotic element is that at the same time,
the Oriental cultures were very strange and alien to Europeans, being not entirely equal, and seen as
the other .
In Mary Pix s Ibrahim, the Thirteenth Emperor of the Turks for example, tyranny goes hand in hand
with the subduing of women, ultimately resulting in tragedy, in the case of Ibrahim, for the character
Morena, the ideal submissive woman who is forced to submit to the tyrant s desires against her
will. As with many Orientalism themed works, sensuality and eroticism play a significant role in
this play, as the sultan Ibrahim, who is portrayed as the villain, only seems to care about his desire
for women. Such a tyrant, in combination with a submissive ... Show more content on

An Important Skill For First And Second Language Learners
1.INTRODUCTION
Reading is an important skill for first and second language learners. Failing to learn to read and
write in the early years results in poor self esteem for learners than any other cause (Casey, 2001).
Computer technology proved to have many advantages for students with learning difficulties,
including motivational aspects and development of fine motor skills (Casey, 2001).
A review of the reading research in L1 and L2 on the effect of a variety of technologies on students
achievement has shown two contradictory findings. The fist line of research found that use of
technology had no significant effect on students reading skill development. Computer assisted
instruction had no effect on the reading achievement of 3rd 6th grade students in a low socio
economic status community. No significant differences were also found between boys and girls
reading achievement (Hamilton, 1995). In another study, Martindale, Pearson, Curda Pilcher (2005)
found that 5th grade students who used computer based and web based software applications
(FCAT Explorer) scored significantly higher on the FCAT (Florida Comprehensive Assessment
Test) than elementary school students who did not use the FCAT Explorer. At the high schoollevel,
no significant differences in scores were found between students who used the FCAT Explorer and
those who did not use it. In a third study, Humble (2000) found that when 2nd grade students used

This memorialization effort was a long time coming considering the forced labor camps, which
terrorized a nation , began in 1929 and lasted through 1956. Even after the death of Josef Stalin,
the release of massive numbers of prisoners, and crumble of communism, the Soviet Union still
could not come to terms with its totalitarian past. The prisoners adapted to the difficult living in
the camps but once they were back in society they had a difficult time readjusting as not to be
maladaptive (Frankl 135). During the 50 s and 60 s doctors could legally only treat the somatic
symptoms of camp survivors, although they knew of the camp syndrome that plagued their
patients psychologically. During this time there was also no field of specialization for post
traumatic stress syndrome or any scientific articles published about the syndrome. Beginning in
1992 and previously as a branch of Memorial, an organization called Compassion was formed to
remedy postponed psychosomatic consequences of torture, enforced by age, pathology, and
unfavorable living conditions. (Adler 115) Their treatment and research has led to the
development of official and scientific findings regarding the experience of repression. Survivors
also felt it was safer to speak of the previously taboo subject of the Gulags after the formal

Slavery In The Canterbury Tales, By Geoffrey Chaucer
The Canterbury Tales is a collection of more than 20 stories, written in Middle English around
the 1380s, during the Hundred Years War, by Geoffrey Chaucer. Within a narrative about a
pilgrimage,(from Southwark to the shrine of Saint Thomas Becket at Canterbury Cathedral)
Chaucer sets a series of stories. These collection of stories are built around a frame narrative,
which was an already established and common genre of the 14th century. (The tales are in verse,
except The Parson s Tale and Chaucer s own story of Melibee which are in prose.) Chaucer s
collection of tales differs from other story compilations, since most story collections are focused on
a theme, usually on a religious one. In Boccaccio s Decameron (which contains more parallels...

Also, Chaucer doesn t pay much attention to depict the pilgrimage. The pilgrimage is a tool,
used to gather the different classes of the English society of its period. Chaucer s attention is
focused on the stories being told, not on the journey itself. Also, the tales continually mirror the
clashes between social classes. These classes can be divided into three main groups: the
commoners and peasantry, the nobility and the clergy. The Wife of Bath s Tale belongs to the
second one, and deals with the subject of authority in married life. This story is unusual in the
collection, since its prologue is longer than the actual tale. For the other tales, the prologue is a
kind of introduction, but The Wife of Bath s Tale is more like a sequel to its prologue. The
prologue is the autobiography of The Wife(Alyson), in which she tells us much about herself. She
speaks directly from her experience of marrige, while her tale is an illustration of her theories. In
the General Prologue we can learn about The Wife s physical appearance, her way of life, and her
character, while Chaucer introduces hints, which he intends to extend later in the narrative.

The Stagecraft of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead
...a poor player, that struts and frets his hour upon the stage, and then is heard no more...
This quote from Macbeth is a perfect summary of the plot of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are
Dead. The dramatisation of the lives of these two unremarkable and virtually extraneous characters
from Hamlet is an unlikely foundation for one of the most...engaging of post war plays (Daily

Stoppard s concept is not enough in itself to create a masterpiece and it is the brilliance of the

They, understandably scared, attempt to find him but after much wandering and procrastination

Guildenstern s comment Well, at last we re getting somewhere . The second example transpires
immediately afterwards when they construct a trap for Hamlet (two belts held taunt before an
entranceway) he evades this by simply walking around it and the two men enhance their folly by
saying there s a limit to what two people can do . The farcical quality of this piece of action is
mirrored later on in Act III when the Player and his troupe appear on the boat. Ros and Guil are

Characters Of Sherlock Holmes By Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
Since the beginning of time, the contradiction between good and evil has been present in all
stages of life. Everybody is capable of having good and evil in their lives, is just a great part of
what defines a human being. In the books of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, there
are many villainous characters that are constantly forcing this detective to go out of his way and
offer a more honorable sense of justice. Specifically, Professor Moriarty, as is known as the most
mysterious, popular and clever of all the corrupted characters of the novel. Sherlock Holmesis often
considered as the other side of the coin, the good to Moriarty s evil, revealing that these two traits
can come in any shape or form.
Professor James Moriarty, shows up as a malevolent character in many of the fictional Sherlock
Holmes stories. Is often overrated, but as a character he is really important, since in different
versions of the stories he is the one responsible for Holmes s death. He is portrayed as a criminal
mastermind who runs an illegal ring by taking people s secrets as a form of payment so he can
then give away some of his protection, and gain what he really desires: power. Starting from the
beginning, this frivolous character is like a master puppeteer, he is very intelligent, cunning and
he enjoys to manipulate people who feel weak under his command. On the other side, Moriarty is
hiding in plain sight, and for him is just a game, more exactly like chess, in where he can move

Imaginary, Symbolic, And Real Order In Shamsie s Broken...
This paper discusses the elements of the Imaginary, Symbolic, and Real Orders in Aasmani s life
and studies how these orders operate and lead to an awareness of the fragmented constructed nature
of the self, which ultimately enables her to put herself together.
Shamsie is a Pakistani author, who in her novels, consistently presents Pakistani society as a highly
complex, mind boggling, sophisticated society, crammed with distinctive and memorable
characters. Broken Verses (2005) is Shamsie s fourth novel, a striking story which is a continuation
and development of Shamsie s distinctive and appealing writing voice. Kamila Shamsie weaves a
story that skilfully combines political intrigue with family dynamics. In the Journal of Postcolonial

The symbolic order is the social world of linguistic communication, intersubjective relations,
knowledge of ideological conventions, and the acceptance of the law. Once the subject enters into
language and accepts the rules and dictates of society, it is able to deal with others. The
acceptance of language s rules is aligned with the Oedipus complex, according to Lacan. The
symbolic is made possible because of your acceptance of the Name of the Father (the fundamental
signifier which permits signification to proceed normally), those laws and restrictions that control
both your desire and the rules of communication (Evans 121). Through recognition of the Name of
the Father, one is able to enter into a community of others. The symbolic, through language, is the
pact which links... subjects together in one action. The human action par excellence is originally
founded on the existence of the world of the symbol, namely on laws and contracts (Lacan 230).
The symbolic represents a further remove from the mother. We are all cut off from the Imaginary,
primordial state and long for the Real

Swimming Pools Budget Cut
Although nobody likes to cut the budget, I feel our budget can be cut in many different ways.
We need to split the budget of the swimming pools in half because six public pools is a lot for
one town and it s too expensive. We need to cut some of the youth programs like the high school
incentive programs because students shouldn t have to be rewarded to get good grades they
should just get them. We should only have two additional police officers instead of three because
two is enough for this city and we don t want to go over budget and have too many police officers.
I decided that we should have three public swimming pools instead of six. Six is too many pools
and we could use the money on something else more important than swimming. The

The Negro Speaks Of Rivers
Langston Hughes was an American poet, novelist, and playwright whose African American themes
names him a primary contributor to the Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s. After moving from
several cities, Hughes and his mother finally settled in Cleveland, Ohio. During this time, Hughes
began to write poetry. One of his teachers introduced him to the poetry of Carl Sandburg and Walt
Whitman, both whom Hughes would later cite as primary influences.
By the time Hughes was enrolled at Columbia University in New York, he had already launched
his literary career with his poem The Negro Speaks of Rivers in the Crisis, edited by W.E.B.
DuBois. He also committed himself to writing mainly about African Americans. Leaving Columbia
in 1922, Hughes spent the next three years in a succession of menial jobs and traveling abroad. He
returned in late 1924, but by then he was well known in African Americanliterary circles as a
gifted young poet. Early on he was heavily influenced by the works of Walt Whitman and Carl
Sandburg. Black poets Paul Laurence Dunbar, a master of both dialect and standard verse, and
Claude McKay, a radical socialist who also wrote accomplished lyric poetry influenced Hughes as
well. However, Sandburg, who Hughes later called my guiding star, was decisive in leading him
toward free verse a radically democratic modernist aesthetic.
Langston Hughes rose to prominence during the Harlem Renaissance. His first two books, The

Physics of a Kayak (Qayaq) Essay
Qayaqs, now known as kyaks, were used by the Yup ik Eskimos of Southwest Alaska. The Qayaq
is a symbol of the Yup ik culture. It symbolizes the significance of subsistence and using the
surrounding resources to survive. This vessel also represents the intelligence and ingenuity of the
Yup ik people developing and designing a water craft that was swift, quiet, and could withstand
harsh water turbulence. They were used as a mode of transportation for subsistence hunting and
gathering. They were also a symbol of importance in society. ...it was the basis among men for

The beam of approximately 30 inches gave the kyak excellent stability and combined with a
sealable waterproof gut skin parka and one or two recovery techniques, made it very seaworthy (
Zimmerly, 40). The wood used was drift wood, and was steamed and bent into the prefered
shape. The pegs to hold the ribs in place were made out of specially selected driftwood or caribou
antler. The seal skin was removed from any hair, dried, and then soaked in urine and rain water
to make it flexible enough to sew. Then the skins sewn together with sinew on the outside, and
then re sewn on the inside with dried beach grass to make sure it was waterproof. The skins are
then lashed onto the frame and then oiled with seal oil and then caulked with a mixture of moss
and seal oil. (Delta Discovery) The shape of a qayaq is the most important characteristic to
determine whether it will flow well in the water. When a qayaq floats, it displaces an amount of
water that is equal to its weight because water is incompressible. When the qayaq is moving, it
displaces more water. The amount of displacement depends on the weight of the qayaq and the
speed it is moving. If the path of the water was blocked, say by a flat front, more energy would be
needed to move the qayaq. This is why streamlining, or laminar flow is important and needs to be
considered when looking at the physics of a qayaq. (http://www.rockisland.com/~kyak

The Great Recession Revealed The Financial Vulnerability...
Money Talk Introduction
The Great Recession revealed the financial vulnerability of millions of US households. In its
aftermath, researchers and policymakers have turned their attention to improving the next
generation s knowledge of personal finance and its access to secure financial offerings (US
Department of the Treasury 2014) (Margaret 2015). While current economic conditions appear
to be showing signs of improvement, 83% of American workers continue to be impacted by
personal financial issues ( 2013 Research Report on Employee Financial Stress, Financial
Finesse, June 2013) (Shele 2015 p. 67). The main reason so many people have personal financial
issues is because of the lack of knowledge that people have about the meaning of financial terms. If
you lack knowledge or don t fully understand financial terms there is no way that you want have
personal financial issues.

The Practices Of Earnings Management
From my point of view, I believe that the different practices of earnings management are misleading
to the stakeholders, and it aims at increasing or decreasing the reported earnings based on the
executive decisions and what would serve their position in the market.
This drives us to ask who the users of the company s financial statements are. Those are the parties
that rely on financial statements for decision making. And they are summarized in the following
groups: Employees, Customers, Supplies, Creditors, Shareholders, Financial analysts, Stock
underwriters and Regulators.
Why earnings management may occur
We have to views that justify why earnings management may occur. The first view states that the
managers who carry out the earnings ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet, if something is legal (since GAAP permits many accounting choices) and is profitable for the
company, then some people might assume it is ethical. While on the other hand, I believe that
when carrying out a business decision it should be taken into considerations all its ethical aspects in
addition to its profitability and legibility aspects.
Thus, in my opinion earnings management does not meet the ethical requirements of an executive
job. To ensure that the executives or managers performance and decisions are in line with
professional ethics, we must see whether their decision implementations would have negative effect
on others. And in this case it is clearly affecting financial statement users.
How earnings management might affect the firm itself?
Earnings management is not effective on the short term as it will not increase the firm s profits,
they may even worsen the enterprises operating difficulties if the executive decisions were not
efficient or if they were not accurate in their expectations and anticipation of the future earnings.
The earnings management opportunities might affect the firm future performance because the
executive would be willing to sacrifice future cash flows for current period income.
It may lead to damage the interests of shareholders and to lose their trust and confidence in

Strategies for translating and interpreting cultural words related to ecology and material culture
As you may know, translation and interpretation are a kind of activity which inevitably involves at
least two languages and two cultural traditions. As this statement implies, translators and
interpreters are permanently faced with the problem of how to treat the culture aspects implicit in a
source text and of finding the most appropriate technique of successfully conveying these aspects
in the target language. These problems may vary in scope depending on the cultural and linguistic
gap between the two (or more) languages concerned. It is possible said that cultural words is one of

What is the original author trying to communicate in that particular context? Sometimes the author
is concerned with the form of the THING or EVENT, but sometimes the function is more
important. There will also be times when the meaning of the word itself is not as important as the
effect which the author is trying to create. The translator will want to find a way to express the
important meaning components of the word and phrase; that is, the ones which are in focus in the
context. THING AND EVENT can be looked at from the perspective of the form of the THING or
EVENT, or from the perspective of its function. Look at the examples and their translationversions.

The chapter deals with communication and language; however, not in the way that is typically

can only communicate through writing on a notepad. The nurse at the hospital tries to

Her unborn child with Eric seems to haunt her. She suspended communication with the people in
her life maybe because she is too ashamed by the abortion, so now she is punishing herself.
Instead of filling her life with people she substitutes human interactions with the voices from the
TV. Nadine now has to deal with the decision she made. Her use of language and communication
were severely altered by her decision. Instead of interacting with Eric, she ignores his calls and
keeps his cassette recordings next to a small shrine for the baby, which is possibly her form of
mourning. Conceivably, the chapter is named Water Child in reference to the baby. Nadine s
shrine is described to have a framed drawing that she had made of a cocoa brown dewy eyed
baby that could as easily have been a boy as a girl.... Next to the frame were a dozen now dried

could have been her life then she would not have built the small shrine. Furthermore, She has once

Kenneth Branagh s Adaptation of Frankenstein for the Cinema
The story of Frankenstein has been set in the Georgian period. The story line can be cut briefly to
a crazed scientist (Victor Frankenstein) thinking he can play God . He tries to bring a creation to
life and once succeeding he realises the terrible mistake he has made and sets about trying to correct
it by murdering it. The Monster sets out for revenge killing family members one by one, ending
with them both dying in ice covered mountains. Kenneth Branagh has re told this story from Mary
Shelley s novel, Frankenstein. Branagh has been very careful when creating this movie, and
because of it, the movie has said to be a movie that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is a form of expressionism, of how Branagh has created this movie from the adaptation of a
novel and managed to make it very powerful emotionally to the viewer.
The class structure of the film plays a big part in the story line, from Victor being at the top of
the upper class scale then coming down to the middle class such as the Nanny working for
Victor s family and then ending right down towards the lower class, the poverty of the working
people in the town. Throughout the story Victor and the Monster are both shown to be
outsiders. Victor began to get ideas in his head about being able to create a new life, starting to
hide himself in his lab for weeks on end studying and experimenting. He begins to lose touch
with the outside world and becomes extremely isolated. I think the Monster becomes alienated
from the moment it is created. It breaks out of the lab, which is ironic as Victor tries to lock
himself in the lab, and roams the disease ridden streets. He is exposed in the town and the
townspeople immediately try to rid him from the town by chasing him and using physical violence
towards the Monster. The Monster fleas the town, actually wanting to exclude himself from the
outside world because of the way he looks and

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Black Money
In an attempt to reduce black money, Prime minister Narendra Modi has withdrawn two major
currency denominations Rs 1000 and Rs 500 notes. This change has resulted in a boost in digital
means of transactions. At the same time there are a lot more ramifications for the larger public.
OBJECTIVES
пЃ¬Stop cash funded terrorism.
пЃ¬Reforms:Banking sector needs.
пЃ¬Curb black money.
пЃ¬Move towards cashless economy.
Other than the expected results, few interesting changes has occurred due to this initiative. Like,
barter system is making a comeback in rural India with the demonetization drive. According to
the Wall Street Journal a trader in Orissa gave a kilo of potatoes and cauliflower in exchange for
half a kilo of honey. Another interesting observation was people selling their old Rs 500 and Rs
1000 notes on eBay and OLX. You... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Within 7 days of of announcement of demonetization, Paytm has witnessed over 7 million
transactions worth Rs 120 crore a day.
DISADVANTAGES
пЃ¬The biggest disadvantage of demonetization is the chaos among public since everybody wants
to get rid of demonetized notes.
пЃ¬Removing the old currency from the economy and printing new ones enough to replace the old
ones is an expensive process, to be funded by the government. If the benefit derived by
demonetization is not enough to put off this cost, it will end up giving negative results.
пЃ¬Another problem is that majority of times this move is targeted towards black money but if
people have not kept cash as their black money and rotated or used that money in other asset
classes like real estate, gold and so on then there is no guarantee that demonetization will help in
catching corrupt people.
пЃ¬Despite the efforts taken, black money is already back in the economy in the form of new
currencies. So the long term benefits that we are aiming for may not actually be achieved by this
sudden

  • 2. Compare And Contrast Donald Trump And Bernie Sanders Drustin Cole March 4, 2016 ENGL 1010 Miller Bernie Sanders versus Donald Trump Election year is upon the American public once again. Time for televised debates between politicians clamoring for their party s spot on the presidential race. Time for billboards and commercials attempting to garner public support and sympathy, and time for issues facing the American public to be brought to the forefront of the American consciousness. Amongst the many varied politicians attempting to run for president, two have been interesting enough to try and compare and contrast between them: Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders. Donald Trump is the current front runner of the Republican Party, whilst Sanders... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So then, what of the Democrat nominee he is being compared against? Bernie Sanders is currently second behind Hillary Clinton in the polls yet he already has his own passionate following, with his own agendas and positions on foreign policy, social issues, and the economy. Bernie s campaign so far has been primarily regarding the economy, and his campaign neatly ties in the economy of the country with its foreign policy and social issues. The most prominent of these issues that Sanders rails against is obviously the inequality between the various classes in America, between the rich and the poor. Sanders still addresses racial violence and LGBT rights on his main website, as is obvious given the stance of the Democratic party as a whole on these issues, but class inequality is still the primary issue of his campaign, at least until recently (BernieSanders). In a debate held in the Democratic town hall of South Carolina, as reported by Daniel Marans of the Huffington Post, Sanders began to emphasize racial issues in his campaign in an attempt to appeal to the minority vote similar to Clinton (The Huffington Post). Previously, it can be assumed that any talk of racial or minority issues would have eventually rounded back to economic inequality, as the two are often intertwined in practice. This emphasis on the economy is the singular defining aspect of Sanders s political campaign and everything else always ends up tying back into this. Sanders s foreign policy has been considered to be quite sound, by sources such as U.S News, as it ties in the local and political spheres with the economic ones (Ian Hurd). Sanders weighs the cost of each action, and how it will affect individuals on the local economic level. Military intervention may serve American interests in the short run, but what about the long term destabilization of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Life Has Changed My Life Every 30 years (with some exceptions) lives are dramatically changed as the result of a beautiful phenomenon. On August 21, 2017, at 1:17 PM, I would be one of those lucky ones whose lives are transformed. It would be a monumental experience that would shake my life and thousands of others for as long as they lived. My sister, my Father and I would drive all the way from Washington, DC to Charleston, South Carolina. Sitting on the tan, leather seats of our black Toyota land cruiser, it was the kind of day when your legs would stick to the seats from the summer heat, but it was also the day we would begin our trek. We would leave the comfort of our home to view the Great American Eclipse from Charleston, South Carolina. A few hours later, straining my neck to look all the way up a smiling Pedro s face on a statue, it was obvious that we had reached South of the Border. The air was thick and hot, it made us Marylanders lethargic. Only three more hours... My dad unenthusiastically yelled to us. South of the border had marked about 75 percent of hour drive there. Guyssss get upppp, My dad groggily tried to stir me and my sister from a peaceful slumber, although he himself tired too. Last night s late arrival in South Carolina had left us all drained, especially the driver my Dad, who was trying to make sure we didn t sleep through the eclipse! Once we ... • 4. Smell Disorders Trailer Stop and smell the roses is a famous idiomatic reference many make when they want to convey the importance of appreciating the beauty of life. But have any of us imagined what it may be like to NOT smell the roses or anything for that matter? Humans often take their sense of smell for granted, as they rely more heavily on sight and sound in day to day activities. Yet smell in my opinion can be such an important aspect of life as the brain has the capability to associate smells with danger and it can even elicit memories. For example, the odorof smoke notifies us that something dangerous could be happening, or walking into a bakery with the smell of fresh chocolate chip cookies can cause pleasure, bringing back childhood memories... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The most common causes include head injury (common in young adults) and viral infections or Alzheimer disease in older adults ( Loss of Smell Ear,Nose, and Throat Disorders ). Head injuries may result in anosmia due to damage or destruction to the fibers of the olfactory nerves where they pass through the roof of the nasal cavity. Sometimes injuries may also cause a fracture to the cribriform plate ( Loss of Smell Ear,Nose, and Throat Disorders ). Infections and tumors near the cribriform plate also can damage the olfactory nerve. Some less common causes of anosmia include the overuse of antibiotics ,which may kill off all the olfactory neurons at once. If the cause is due to sinus infections or irritation, doctors may suggest a treatment of steam inhalation, nasal sprays, antibiotics, and occasionally surgery. If a tumor near the cribriform is causing the individual to lack olfactory abilities, then surgical removal and radiation is typically the course of treatment. However, in causes where anosmia resulted from head trauma or undiagnosed causes there are no current treatment options. Additional ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Dionysian And Apollinian In Nietzsche s The Birth of Tragedy, the two impulses, Dionysian and Apollinian are identified. Dionysian is described as irrational, chaotic; to follow your emotions, your heart no matter how irrational your decision may be, it is what Schopenhauer defines as will (people wants). It is brought up with festivals that occurred in Rome and the tradition continued all the way to Babylon. In these festivals, people would dance until they couldn t stand, not knowing where they were going or why they were dancing. Apollinian is described as following facts, science; think with reason, or anything that is apart of a thing s individuality. Sculptures are seen as Apollinian because they have a form and were shaped which talks shows their individuality. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Despite the name, chickenpox is only carried, transmitted and contracted by humans. SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS The most well known symptom of chickenpox is a red, blistery rash that starts on the upper half of the body. TREATMENT Treatment involves keeping the person as comfortable as possible. Here are things to try: * Avoid scratching or rubbing the itchy areas. Keep fingernails short to avoid damaging the skin from scratching. * Wear cool, light, loose bedclothes. Avoid wearing rough clothing, particularly wool, over an itchy area. * Take lukewarm baths using little soap and rinse thoroughly. Try a skin soothing oatmeal or cornstarch bath. * Apply a soothing moisturizer after bathing to soften and cool the skin. * Avoid prolonged exposure to excessive heat and humidity. * Try over the counter oral antihistamines such as diphenhydramine (Benadryl), but be aware of possible side effects such as drowsiness. * Try over the counter hydrocortisone cream on itchy areas. Medications that fight the chickenpox virus are available but not given to everyone. To work well, the medicine usually must be started within the first 24 hours of the rash. * Antiviral medication is not usually prescribe to otherwise healthy children who do not have severe symptoms. Adults and teens, who are at risk for more severe symptoms, may benefit from antiviral medication if it is given early. * Antiviral medication may be very important in those who have skin conditions (such as eczema or recent sunburn), lung conditions (such as asthma), or ... • 7. Nature Effects In The Myth, Icarus And The Poem, Nature effects both the myth, Icarus and Daedalus, and the poem, Icarus, in many ways. Some examples of this are the heat of the sun, birds and the ocean. In the myth, Daedalus was watching seagulls fly around and got an idea. As said in the myth, ...watching the seagulls... he thought of a plan for himself and his young son Icarus, who was captive with him. He got inspiration from nature on a way to escape the island he and his son, Icarus, were trapped on. Both the myth and the poem stress how Icarus fell when he flew too close to the sun, causing the wax keeping the wings together to melt. The poem mentions this in the second stanza, Did he rail at the sun, which beckoned enticingly, and the changed from a beacon to a furnace? Since ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lease Payable$8.47 Interest Expense$35.53 Cash$44 v. As of December 31, 2003 the amount of the Capital Lease liability that is current equals $8.47 (the amount by which the principal will be reduced). This estimate differs from current maturities of capital leases because current maturities ($25) represent leases that will be retired during 2004. The payment of $44 is to the portfolio of all leases and therefore reflects the interest and principal portions in terms of all of the leases. The amount that actually went to interest and principal cannot be determined without accounting for each lease individually. J. i. The present value of the future minimum lease payments is equal to $8,546. This amount was calculated by discounting each of the payments at the given rate of 12%. ii. • 9. Ldh Lab Report Optimum pH determination Enzymatic activity is effected by different environmental conditions; these environmental factors have a direct impact on whether the enzyme will catalyse the reaction tested or if the environment does not permit enzyme activity. One environmental factor that effects enzymatic activity is pH. All enzymes have an optimal environment where the enzyme is most efficient, this environment can even contribute to the function of the enzyme. For LDH the optimal pH would be a pH that results in a rapid conversion of pyruvate and NADH to lactate and NAD+. Based on the experiment the optimal pH of LDH shown in figure 2 is 10.5. This suggests that LDH for conversion of pyruvate to lactate works best in basic/alkaline conditions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All enzymes have an optimal temperature where activity is the most productive. If the temperature of the enzymes environment is too low or too high, the enzyme and the substrate will not interact in a desired way which results in decreased activity. High temperatures of enzymes lead to high energy bonds breaking, thus altering the active site and overall enzyme by denaturation. If an enzyme temperature is too low the lack of activity may be due to lack of energy for substrate to interact with enzyme. By this knowledge it is expected that a temperature rate plot of an enzyme should result in a bell curve with the optimal temperature being the highest point. Based on the results of figure 3, this is the case the muscle LDH forms a bell curve with the optimal temperature for activity being 60oC. This may seem to be a large temperature value but what can be noted is that LDH is most active during anaerobic activity which can be induced by exercise which causes the increase in temperature in muscle cells. The literature value for the optimal temperature is 55oC. The comparison between the experimental LDH and the literature LDH are almost the same thus the temperature rate profile is a successful method for testing the optimal temperature. Slight experimental errors may have occurred due to inaccuracy of the water baths to raise the temperature of LDH and keep it on an exact temperature. Temperatures that are ... • 10. The Power of the Family in White Noise Essay examples The Power of the Family in White Noise Don Dellilo s protagonist in his novel White Noise, Jack Gladney, has a nuclear family that is, ostensibly, a prime example of the disjointed nature way of the family of the 80 s and 90 s what with Jack s multiple past marriages and the fact that his children aren t all related. It s basically the antipodal image of the 1950 s nuclear family. Despite this surface level disjointedness, it is his family and the extrasensory rapport that he shares with them allows Jack to survive in his world. Thus the family, in this instance Babette, serves as the medium through which Jack is able to overcome Heinrich s skepticism (which is representative of modern science (24)) as to the reality of human emotions. DeLillo s image, moreover, of Jack and Babette rescuing themselves from the past also suggests that without family or someone to commune with, man can become lost in the past. DeLillo s novel is almost obsessively concerned with appliances: TVs, radios, microwaves etc. They are omnipresent, not only in the characters worlds but within the narrative itself. DeLillo repeatedly interrupts his narrative with sentences like The TV said: And other trends that could dramatically impact our portfolio (61) or MasterCard, Visa, American Express (100) or That chirping sound was just the radiator (94). There are two sources of drinking water, surface water and ground water and they are each managed, monitored and regulated differently even though the actual water systems are interrelated and integrated. The contamination was ultimately found to be Escherichia coli 0157:H7 commonly referred to as E. coli or EC0157. Investigations by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Missouri state and county public health departments determined the most probable source of contamination was leakage of sewage near broken water main lines that then entered the drinking water distribution system (Swerdlow et al, 1992). According to the report by Swerdlow et al (1992), this particular incident had the distinction of being not only the largest incidence of EC0157 infection at that time but also the first due to a multiple resistant organism, and the first documented to be transmitted by water (Swerdlow et al, 1992, p. 818). Testing of water taken directly from the wells in Cabool revealed the water contamination did not occur in the ground water itself but was initiated in and then distributed via the water supply system. The Cabool contamination could have been prevented had the town followed the recommended standard procedure of hyperchlorination immediately after water line breaks or repairs (Swerdlow et el, 1992). It is common for water systems to have small leaks but they usually do not result in contamination as the positive flow of water pressure prevents inward infiltration of the system but when there are breaks in the lines and pressure is lost, contamination can flow back into the water lines. ... • 30. The Case Of Harvey And Capability Limited The Case of Harvey and Capability Limited Before analysing, Harvey needs to be advised that there are two known clauses that exist in a contract; limitation clause and exclusion clause. He needs to understand that there is a difference between both of these clauses. When there is a breach of the contract, the limitation clause that is relied on in a contract and enforced would make an effort to pay for certain damages. This can only be used as an indicator for Harvey to recognise their differences, but, it will not be explained any further as the enquiry made is only related to exclusion clause. Capability Limited is a private limited company that has subcontracted a sole proprietor, Reckless Enterprise. As the damages were done by Reckless Enterprise, with the matter of who is liable to pay for it, the court needs to look deep into the consequences of Capability Limited and how Reckless Enterprise was included in the Memorandum as a third party. Exclusion Clauses If the contract is breached, the party relying on the exclusion clauses will not be responsible for paying for any damages (Treitel, 1995). • 31. The Role Of Orientalism In The Tragedy Of Mariam Political tyranny and male female relationships in Elizabeth Cary s The Tragedy of Mariam (1613) and Mary Pix s Ibrahim, the Thirteenth Emperor of the Turks (1696). Orientalism has inspired and still does many works, in many ways, be it literary or any other art forms. Orientalism could be used as a way to express a desire for the exotic, for sensuality, but at the same time, it could be used in a darker way as well. A persistent image of the Orient is one where women, even more than in sixteenth century England, were subdued by men, with little freedom for themselves. On top of that, the other side of the exotic element is that at the same time, the Oriental cultures were very strange and alien to Europeans, being not entirely equal, and seen as the other . In Mary Pix s Ibrahim, the Thirteenth Emperor of the Turks for example, tyranny goes hand in hand with the subduing of women, ultimately resulting in tragedy, in the case of Ibrahim, for the character Morena, the ideal submissive woman who is forced to submit to the tyrant s desires against her will. As with many Orientalism themed works, sensuality and eroticism play a significant role in this play, as the sultan Ibrahim, who is portrayed as the villain, only seems to care about his desire for women. Failing to learn to read and write in the early years results in poor self esteem for learners than any other cause (Casey, 2001). Computer technology proved to have many advantages for students with learning difficulties, including motivational aspects and development of fine motor skills (Casey, 2001). A review of the reading research in L1 and L2 on the effect of a variety of technologies on students achievement has shown two contradictory findings. The fist line of research found that use of technology had no significant effect on students reading skill development. Computer assisted instruction had no effect on the reading achievement of 3rd 6th grade students in a low socio economic status community. No significant differences were also found between boys and girls reading achievement (Hamilton, 1995). In another study, Martindale, Pearson, Curda Pilcher (2005) found that 5th grade students who used computer based and web based software applications (FCAT Explorer) scored significantly higher on the FCAT (Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test) than elementary school students who did not use the FCAT Explorer. The prisoners adapted to the difficult living in the camps but once they were back in society they had a difficult time readjusting as not to be maladaptive (Frankl 135). During the 50 s and 60 s doctors could legally only treat the somatic symptoms of camp survivors, although they knew of the camp syndrome that plagued their patients psychologically. During this time there was also no field of specialization for post traumatic stress syndrome or any scientific articles published about the syndrome. Slavery In The Canterbury Tales, By Geoffrey Chaucer The Canterbury Tales is a collection of more than 20 stories, written in Middle English around the 1380s, during the Hundred Years War, by Geoffrey Chaucer. Within a narrative about a pilgrimage,(from Southwark to the shrine of Saint Thomas Becket at Canterbury Cathedral) Chaucer sets a series of stories. These collection of stories are built around a frame narrative, which was an already established and common genre of the 14th century. (The tales are in verse, except The Parson s Tale and Chaucer s own story of Melibee which are in prose.) The Wife of Bath s Tale belongs to the second one, and deals with the subject of authority in married life. This story is unusual in the collection, since its prologue is longer than the actual tale. For the other tales, the prologue is a kind of introduction, but The Wife of Bath s Tale is more like a sequel to its prologue. The prologue is the autobiography of The Wife(Alyson), in which she tells us much about herself. She speaks directly from her experience of marrige, while her tale is an illustration of her theories. The second example transpires immediately afterwards when they construct a trap for Hamlet (two belts held taunt before an entranceway) he evades this by simply walking around it and the two men enhance their folly by saying there s a limit to what two people can do . • 50. The Controversies Of Owning A Pet I am sick with an unknown illness, and just like you would when you have the flu, I have good days and bad days. I also have a dog named Zeke, who lays with on me during fever days. I ve grown up around pets my entire life, so therefore, I may be slightly bias when I say: I strongly believe, with all my being, that owning a petteaches you, and shows you, Loyalty, Responsibility, and to Care for someone something other than yourself. Owning a pet helps you learn some of the necessary goals, attitudes, and benefits of life. First up is loyalty. My illness has many symptoms, but the main ones are these: Abdominal pain, inability to breathe or pain while breathing, and lightheadedness or headaches. When the pain in my chest gets so bad, in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Nadine Water Child Summary The chapter deals with communication and language; however, not in the way that is typically expected. The main character, Nadine, can only communicate with her parents through mail and the occasional phone call, and she fails to write back. Her former beau, Eric, can only communicate to her through the voicemails he leaves on her machine. And the patient at the hospital, Ms. Hinds, can only communicate through writing on a notepad. The nurse at the hospital tries to communicate and have a conversation with Nadine; however, she refuses to reciprocate the friendly communication. Nadine has a lot of people trying to communicate with her but she chooses to deny them of ample communication. Feasibly, her introverted traits are attributed to the... She suspended communication with the people in her life maybe because she is too ashamed by the abortion, so now she is punishing herself. Instead of filling her life with people she substitutes human interactions with the voices from the TV. Nadine now has to deal with the decision she made. Her use of language and communication were severely altered by her decision. Instead of interacting with Eric, she ignores his calls and keeps his cassette recordings next to a small shrine for the baby, which is possibly her form of mourning. Conceivably, the chapter is named Water Child in reference to the baby. Nadine s shrine is described to have a framed drawing that she had made of a cocoa brown dewy eyed baby that could as easily have been a boy as a girl.... Next to the frame were a dozen now dried red roses that Eric brought her The tribute to the baby might represent her lost of what she could have had along with symbolizing her grief. If she didn t feel sadness over losing the baby or what could have been her life then she would not have built the small shrine. Furthermore, She has once read about a shrine to unborn children in Japan, where water was poured over alters of stone to honor them, so she had ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. Essay on Kenneth Branagh s Adaptation of Frankenstein for... Kenneth Branagh s Adaptation of Frankenstein for the Cinema The story of Frankenstein has been set in the Georgian period. The story line can be cut briefly to a crazed scientist (Victor Frankenstein) thinking he can play God . He tries to bring a creation to life and once succeeding he realises the terrible mistake he has made and sets about trying to correct it by murdering it. The Monster sets out for revenge killing family members one by one, ending with them both dying in ice covered mountains. Kenneth Branagh has re told this story from Mary Shelley s novel, Frankenstein. Branagh has been very careful when creating this movie, and because of it, the movie has said to be a movie that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is a form of expressionism, of how Branagh has created this movie from the adaptation of a novel and managed to make it very powerful emotionally to the viewer. The class structure of the film plays a big part in the story line, from Victor being at the top of the upper class scale then coming down to the middle class such as the Nanny working for Victor s family and then ending right down towards the lower class, the poverty of the working people in the town. Throughout the story Victor and the Monster are both shown to be outsiders. Victor began to get ideas in his head about being able to create a new life, starting to hide himself in his lab for weeks on end studying and experimenting. He begins to lose touch with the outside world and becomes extremely isolated. I think the Monster becomes alienated from the moment it is created. It breaks out of the lab, which is ironic as Victor tries to lock himself in the lab, and roams the disease ridden streets. He is exposed in the town and the townspeople immediately try to rid him from the town by chasing him and using physical violence towards the Monster. The Monster fleas the town, actually wanting to exclude himself from the outside world because of the way he looks and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Black Money In an attempt to reduce black money, Prime minister Narendra Modi has withdrawn two major currency denominations Rs 1000 and Rs 500 notes. This change has resulted in a boost in digital means of transactions. At the same time there are a lot more ramifications for the larger public. OBJECTIVES пЃ¬Stop cash funded terrorism. пЃ¬Reforms:Banking sector needs. пЃ¬Curb black money. пЃ¬Move towards cashless economy. Other than the expected results, few interesting changes has occurred due to this initiative. Like, barter system is making a comeback in rural India with the demonetization drive. According to the Wall Street Journal a trader in Orissa gave a kilo of potatoes and cauliflower in exchange for half a kilo of honey. Another interesting observation was people selling their old Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes on eBay and OLX. You... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Within 7 days of of announcement of demonetization, Paytm has witnessed over 7 million transactions worth Rs 120 crore a day. DISADVANTAGES пЃ¬The biggest disadvantage of demonetization is the chaos among public since everybody wants to get rid of demonetized notes. пЃ¬Removing the old currency from the economy and printing new ones enough to replace the old ones is an expensive process, to be funded by the government. If the benefit derived by demonetization is not enough to put off this cost, it will end up giving negative results. пЃ¬Another problem is that majority of times this move is targeted towards black money but if people have not kept cash as their black money and rotated or used that money in other asset classes like real estate, gold and so on then there is no guarantee that demonetization will help in catching corrupt people. пЃ¬Despite the efforts taken, black money is already back in the economy in the form of new currencies. So the long term benefits that we are aiming for may not actually be achieved by this sudden ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
