Life Essay Examples
Writing an essay on the topic of "Life Essay Examples" can be a challenging task, as the subject
matter encompasses a vast and intricate array of experiences, perspectives, and philosophical
dimensions. Life, being a complex and multifaceted phenomenon, poses a unique set of
challenges for anyone attempting to encapsulate its essence within the confines of an essay.
Firstly, defining the parameters of life itself can be a daunting undertaking. Life manifests in
countless forms, each with its own narrative, struggles, and triumphs. Attempting to distill this
diversity into a coherent and engaging essay requires a delicate balance between breadth and
depth of exploration. The writer must navigate through the intricacies of human existence,
addressing existential questions, cultural nuances, and individual journeys.
Furthermore, the challenge lies in avoiding clichГ©s and trite observations. Life essay examples
often run the risk of falling into common tropes and platitudes. Crafting an original and thought-
provoking essay demands a fresh perspective and the ability to delve into the profound without
succumbing to overused expressions.
Additionally, the subjective nature of the topic makes it challenging to create an essay that
resonates universally. What may be profound to one person might not hold the same significance
for another. Striking a balance between personal anecdotes and broader themes is essential to
create an essay that speaks to a diverse audience.
Moreover, the emotional aspect of the topic can make it challenging to maintain objectivity. Life
is inherently tied to our emotions, and navigating the fine line between sentimentality and
rational discourse requires a careful and skillful approach.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic of "Life Essay Examples" demands a nuanced
understanding of the subject, a keen sense of originality, and the ability to weave together
diverse threads of human experience. It is a task that necessitates both intellectual depth and
emotional intelligence to capture the richness of life in all its facets.

born at the end of the month of July. The terms of the prophecy were that The Dark
Lord (Voldemort) would mark the child as his equal and the child would be born
to parents who had defied Voldemort three times. This prophecy was told to
Dumbledore by Sybill Trelawney in the Hog s Head.Snape, still working under
Voldemort and unknown to the prophecy overheard the exchange between
Dumbledore and Trelawney, though he was not abnle to hear the full prophecy
and rushed to tell Voldemort about it.On hearing Snape,Voldemort decided to
mark Harry as his equal and to kill him before he could grow old.On learning this

Maurice Wilkins Examples
Francis Crick, Rosalind Franklin, James Watson, and Maurice Wilkins were all
examples of scientists that came together to help form the detailed understanding of
the structure of DNA that human civilization has today. The question that was
solved by their work was, how do living organisms pass on traits to their offspring?
The discovery was like a puzzle that was put together over time. Different scientists
over the ages added a piece here and there. An example is Gregor Mendel. He
worked with plants and observed the traits that were passed down from the parents to
the offspring. By the 1950s, biologists found that chromosomes contain proteins
along with DNA. This made scientists wonder how DNA could hold all the
information needed to create
Las Vegas Is A City Of The Strip Essay
Las Vegas is a city that is widely known for its casinos, gambling, alcohol, wild
parties, and live entertainment (which usually just entails strippers). It is known
as being most adult s fantasy playground come alive, and because of this it has
been dubbed as Sin City. Because of its nickname, and the way it is constantly
being portrayed in the media it s easy to see why non locals can find it difficult to
imagine there being any type of ordinary life occurring outside of the infamous
Strip that isn t at all entwined with the glitz and glamour that one correlates with
Las Vegas. Sin City locals, on the other hand, can most definitely vouch for there
being life outside of the Strip, but also for there being no life outside of it. So
much emphasis and attention is placed on the Strip that many locals feel that their
life outside of it isn t as commemorative, and because of this they see no point in
taking the time to enjoy their life here in Sin City. In order for locals to enjoy their
life in Vegas ad be able to get the most out of it they must first accept that the fact
that they live in a tourist town, set aside their own insider views for a moment to
be able to look at the city through the eyes of a tourist, and learn to appreciate the
life that there is outside and inside of the Strip. The first step that needs to be taken
to appreciate your life here in Las Vegas is to accept that fact that you live in Las
Vegas. By this I mean that you have to accept the fact that

Material
One must consider many factors when selecting a material for a shoulder bag. Often,
expending little thought to the matter beforehand, it s usually only after making the
purchase that issues arise. Among many thoughts, resistance to weather is a very
important aspect for many photographers; however, the intended use is instrumental
in making an informed decision. Available options include the 100% canvas
pinestone and sandstone, as well as the black brushed polyester; additionally,
manufactured with a water repellant coating, either bag becomes a viable option.
Purchasing the pinestone, durability of the material weighed profoundly in my
selection, but the look and feel of the canvas won the day.
Constructed with nylon webbing and thread, the shoulder strap is as comfortable as
it is durable. Additionally, equipped with silicone non slip pads, the shoulder strap

Home Confinement is the Solution to Prison Overcrowding...
Home Confinement is the Solution to Prison Overcrowding
Prison overcrowding is one of the largest problems facing the American criminal
justice system today. Many people may think this issue does not affect them, but the
problem becomes important when overcrowding forces prisoners to be granted
early release. In cases of extreme brutality, the sentence served by criminals can be
short. Because prison space in the city is tight, each offender can be accommodated
only briefly ( Punishment ). Prison overcrowding causes a controversy of positive
and negative views concerning the construction of more prisons. Supporters claim
that building more prisons is the only solution, while opponents argue that alternative
methods ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the article Prison Staff Feel Effects of Horrendous Overcrowding, Jilly Welch
states that, Many prisons are employing only the minimum number of officers to
meet health and safety standards. Arguments have been made that if prison
overcrowding is not properly managed, the security of prisons will be endangered,
placing staff and inmates in unsafe, life threatening conditions, and jeopardizing
public safety. Supporters claim that more prisons need to be built to accommodate
offenders as well as to ensure the safety of staff members.
The number of inmates in the nation s jails and prisons rose again last year, to a
record 1.8 million, though crime rates have dropped for seven consecutive years
(Welch). Supporters of building prisons argue that without the growth of prisons,
crime rates would have risen dramatically. Therefore advocates claim that building
more prisons will help to continue decreasing the rate of crime while facilitating the
needs of prison overcrowding. They say that prisons need to be designed to facilitate
inmate supervision by staff in the most cost effective manner. If they are not designed
correctly, the cost of extra personnel can be extremely high, outweighing any initial
advantage in construction cost that a more staff intensive design might have had
(Tipp 114). Therefore, supporters claim that although the construction of prisons may
be expensive, if they
A Controversial Policy For Combat Marital Rape
A Proposed Policy to Combat Marital Rape
Marital rape, a rape in which the perpetrator is the victim s spouse, is an
underestimated, underreported reality that effects 10 14% of all women in the U.S
(Basile, 2011). Although the U.S. government has made strides in sexual violence
laws in the past few years, marital rape policies still have a long way to go. The
instance of marital rape should be combatted by the U.S. Federal Government with a
multifaceted plan. First, the U.S. federal government should offer states incentive to
develop laws where no distinction is made between marital rape and non marital rape
in terms of elements of the crime, statute of limitations, and length of the sentence.
Second, the Federal Government should ratify the Declaration to Eliminate Violence
Against Women. Third, the federal government should completely eliminate all funds
for private abstinence only education. Fourth, the federal government should offer
additional incentives to states who have rape education programs in their public high
schools.
A Note on the instance of Marital Rape
While the marital rape experience extends to men as well, women are
disproportionately affected by this form of sexual violence (Bryant Davis, 2011).
Additionally, there is very little evidence that rape occurs in the context of
homosexual relationships (Bryant Davis, 2011). This proposal will mainly address
policies that are focused on alleviating marital rape for women in heterosexual
marriages, since they
Porter s Five Forces
Porter s Five Forces
Porter s Five Forces allowed us to analyse the influences on the industry in which
Tesco operates. It highlights where Tesco has developed a competitive edge over its
rivals.
Potential entrants:
Throughout the recession Tesco has continued to invest into expanding the company
and developing efficiencies, making it as competitive as ever to defend against the
threat of new entrants (Datamonitor, 2010, p. 19).
The threat of a new competitor entering this sector is relatively low, due to the huge
capital investment required to be competitive and establish a brand identity that
stands out.
One of Tescos main advantages is their ability to buy in vast quantities, making them
highly price competitive.
Along with being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tesco then use this customer data to shape product offerings, create ranges, gain a
better understanding of consumer segments and shopping profiles, help marketing to
build loyalty and develop promotion offerings that suit target groups.
Datamonitor (2010, p.19) reports amp;amp;quot;18% more UK households are
redeeming (Tesco) vouchers than a year ago amp;amp;quot;. Money off vouchers are
a very successful promotion tool during a recession, and thanks to information
retained through the amp;amp;quot;Clubcard amp;amp;quot;, they can be
personalised to suit the needs of individual customers, therefore increasing customer
satisfaction.
Suppliers:
Large organizations, like Tesco, are in the position of control when it comes to
negotiating with suppliers.
In 2009, Tesco switched to sourcing many products directly from the UK, in an effort
to lower prices in the Republic of Ireland to prevent shoppers heading North due to
the devaluation of sterling against the euro. This allowed them to cut its prices by up
to 22% in the border regions, helping them retain their competitive edge (http:/

While all goods have a general purpose of satisfying the wants and needs of people,
specific types of goods hold specialized places within the market and have various
unique components. Network goods are one of these. The value of a network good
increases when more consumers purchase and use them. This is obvious when noting
the definition of network, being a connecting system. The network effectis what
creates the aspects of a network good. The network effect refers to the fact that the
more people use something, the more value it has. There are four main types of
network effects: direct, indirect, two sided and local. Direct network effect is simply
defined as increased use means increased value. Indirect network effects refers to...

As cell phones become more popular in general within the market, for example,
your own cell phone becomes more valuable now that its utility has grow. The
actual value that these goods have for the customers can be split into two parts. One
component is the value propagated by the product without taking the number of
users into account. The second part, is the value that comes from being able to
interact with other users because of the product. The prospect that networks are able
to compete with each other implies a consideration about intellectual property law.
Where one standard is owned and another is not, the unowned side is unlikely to
succeed for obvious reasons. Most of the time, the monopoly will be the owner while
the substitute networks will not. Even though it is not for sure that inferior standards
win against superior standards, this may be mostly because most standards are
supported by companies who have some kind of ownership. A classic example of this
would be the telephone with both local and long distance capabilities. The company
AT T was the legal monopolist according to Alexander Graham Bell s patent of the
device in 1876. When the patent expired, AT T was still the long distance telephone
monopolist due to the procurement of other patents. Because of this, AT T was the
monopolist into the 20th century
Sears And Corporate Social Responsibility
Sears and Corporate Social Responsibility
Introduction
At one time, Sears prided itself as Where America Shops by staying in touch with
consumers and upholding high product, employer, and customer standards. Today,
Sears is struggling to remain a prominent American retailer. The company s present
business model reflects a poor grasp of corporate social responsibility (CSR). Riddled
with lawsuits, workplace issues, and a poor reputation with the US Equal
Employment Opportunity Commission, the Sears consumers know today is
undesirable.
Lawsuits
Product Lawsuits
Several class action lawsuits were recently filed against Sears and Whirlpool
regarding certain Kenmore and Whirlpool front loading washing machines sold
between 2004 and 2006. These cases were filed after hundreds of customers reported
mold growing in the unit, costing customers hundreds of dollars in either repairs or
unit replacements. An estimated 450,000 Kenmore washing machines are affected.
Sears denies any negligence in the case. While this problem lowers Sears s
consumers customer satisfaction expectations, cases like this are routine amongst
large retailers. An example of good CSR following an incident like this would be to
admit fault and offer the affected consumers compensation for their troubles. Because
Sears denies fault in the case, consumers were forced to file a class action lawsuit in
order to receive compensation. These actions reflect Sears s recent inattention to
customers interests, further

The Pros And Cons Of Labor Unions
Labor Unions could be defined as an organized association of workers, often in a
trade or profaession, formed to protect and further their rights and interests. In the
arcticle, Why the Labor Unions were Given a Bloody Nose in Canton, Mississippi,
Richard A. Epstein explains the main claim, or statement, made in this article was
that the UAW hoped for success in Canton, but the results were not in the UAW s
favor. This author took a stance on the UAW s side. Epstein further explained what
would ve happened if the UAW would have won the vote. In the article, Tesla denies
claims that tried to block unionizing effort, by Dee Ann Durbin, the author explains
that Tesla security guards allegedly refused to let off duty employees hand out
leaflets about the United Auto Workersunion near the doors of the company s
factory. In this article, Dee Ann Durbin was neutral. The argument that could be
made from this article is would be does Tesla need a labor union? The employees
also stated that a supervisor threatened to fire employees who passed out stickers,
leaflets or other material not approved by Tesla. The UAW can affect Tesla in
numerous ways, such as by protecting the employees, defending their rights, and
allowing them to receive the respect they deserve. Tesla employees need protection
because they might get fired for promoting change within the company. The
management of the company stated that workers have tried to leave work when their
shift was over, but the upper

Through Gates of Splendor
I.Introduction Through Gates of Splendor, by Abe C. Van Der Puy, is a Christian
classic. It is about five daring missionaries who were willing to risk their lives just
to spread the gospel to the isolated Aucas. They even financed this mission from
their own pockets. They knew that their lives will be in danger, and they still have
their families, but they trusted God and still continued their strong desire in life to
spread the gospel to the Aucas. It is clearly evident that their lives were not wasted.
Many college students volunteered to enter the foreign mission field, and more
Indians came to church in Shandai. II.Body In the autumn of 1955, Nate Saint, Roger

To make their identity unmistakable, the team even took photos of themselves
wearing or holding the Auca gifts, made 6 x 9 enlargements tinted in lifelike

breathlessly transmitted the good tidings to his wife about the coming of the
Aucas, and said that he will contact her again at 4:35. However, the contact was
never made. Before 4:35, the five had already fallen beneath the machetes of the
Aucas, leaving behind their wives and children. There were no other clues other
than Nate Saint s damaged wrist watch, found on his spear pierced body days later.
It had stopped at 3:12. Even though the wives did not clearly understand their
husbands death, they concluded that it sparked many other hearts for the people
secluded and unknowing of a Savior. There were many suspenseful passages in
Through Gates of Splendor. One moving passage occurs after the team gave several
preliminary overtures of friendship to the Aucas. The men set out on a crucial
January day in 1956 for a meeting with the Auca tribesmen, who had reacted with
apparent tolerance to earlier gifts and messages. That night, again at Arajuno, Nate
tossed sleeplessly, in hindsight thinking of devices they might have used to detain
their Friday visitors. But Sunday morning before
Essay on The Baroque Art Style
The Baroque Art Style
The era known as the Baroque period includes the seventeenth and most of the
eighteenth centuries in Europe. The Baroque style was a style in which the art and
artists of the time focused upon details and intricate designs. Their art often
appeals to the mind by way of the heart. During this time the portraits began to
portray modern life, and artists turned their backs on classical tradition. Much of
the art shows great energy and feeling, and a dramatic use of light, scale, and
balance (Preble 302). Buildings were more elaborate and ornately decorated. These
works of art created history and altered the progress of Western Civilization.

He tended to explore the darker aspects of life and death in his paintings. Rebelling
against conventional ideas divine intervention, Virgin Mary, and death he came to
create his own style, forcing civilization ahead, and forcing others to follow his
path. His paintings show pleading through man s direct knowledge of God
(Cunningham and Reich 1640). By revolting against the classical traditions, he
created his own style, which other artists wished to portray also. Thus, he created a
forward movement in the fashion of art and architecture. Rembrandt was also an
artist who wished to depict art in a new manner. He is known for being a fashionable
portrait painter. In paintings such as Bathsheba, Rembrandt uses classical ideas and
studies from nature to achieve balance. He perceived old images in a new light,
transforming them into the light of human experience (Cunningham and Reich 183).
He used contrast between light and darkness, and rich textures in order to create
depth and enhance the emotional power of the portrait. Just as Caravaggio did,
Rembrandt created a path in art and others followed.
Jan Vermeer was a Dutch painter who fascinated by the use of light in his paintings.
Unlike Caravaggio and Rembrandt, who used light for dramatic emphasis, Vermeer
concentrated on the way light reveals each color, texture, and detail of the physical
world (Preble 307). Vermeer

Literary Analysis on Hands by Sherwood Anderson The short story Hands by
Sherwood Anderson is one of the twenty two stories in the book Winesburg, Ohio.
This story specifically focuses on the psychological trauma of a teacher after being
falsely accused of molesting his male students. This alone brings up the topics of
homosexuality and sex, which was considered scandalous at the time it was published
in 1919.Although this is true, it did not stop the public from finding this piece of
literature as fascinating. In Hands, Anderson s form of symbolism, narration, and
themes are what make this piece modern and unique. Anderson s use of symbolism to

Although he was confused about what happened, he was sure of one thing and that
was that the hands must be to blame (252). Wing perceives his hands as a symbol
of his perceived guilt, or a manifestation of his fears. They symbolize critical turning
points in his life, good and bad. He makes them the core of his actions and who is,
allowing them to take control of his life. By personifying Wing s hands, Anderson
makes the consequences of their actions the focus point of the story.
An important aspect as to why this story was so well written was because of
Anderson s choice of narration. The point of view that Anderson uses in Hands can
be identified as third person limited. Third person limited is a method of storytelling
in which the narrator knows only the thoughts and feelings of a single character,
while other characters are only presented externally. Although it is told in third
person, at one point the narrator is speaking directly to the reader, just like its done
in the tradition of oral story telling, this brings the reader into the creation of the
story. Twice in the story the narrator says that both the teller of the story and the
listener, in this case, the reader, have to become poets, Let us look briefly into the
story of hands. Perhaps our talking of them will arouse the poet who will tell the
hidden wonder... (251). In the beginning of the story the narrator
Essay about James Joyce s Araby
Araby
Even under the best of circumstances the transition from childhood into adulthood is
a long and dreary journey that all young men must encounter in life. A road that
involves many hardships and sacrifices along the way; and when that road is a lonely
one, with only oneself to rely upon, the hardship intensifies to become destructive to
those involved. This is particularly true in the story Araby, where James Joyce
portrays the trials and tribulations of a young boy s initiation into adulthood. Many of
the boy s problems lie in not being able to come to grips with the harsh reality that no

Throughout the story, Joyce portrays many symbols to show the boys transition into
becoming an adult. Joyce says, I sat staring at the clock for some time and, when its
ticking began to irritate me, I left the room. The ticking of the clock symbolized
the long and frustrating journey into adulthood; and we see from the fact that it
irritated him, shows his desire to become an adult already. Later in the story, Joyce
portrays an instance where the boy desires to be a man even though he is not; From
the front window I saw my companions playing below in the street. It is as if he is
an adult, towering over his friends, looking down upon them when in reality they are
the same age as he is.
After receiving money and permission from his uncle to go to the bazaar, we see
another symbol used to show his lonely road into maturity. Joyce says, I took my
seat in a third class carriage of a deserted train. After an intolerable delay the train
moved out of the station slowly. The train is the symbol used here to show the long
journey that is taking place in his life. The fact that it was deserted and that the
train moved slowly shows that the transition into adulthood is a very slow moving
time in a boy s life, which can be very lonely at times; I remained alone in the bare
carriage.
Joyce is not portraying how adolescents can act
The Truth Behind Puritanism Belief System
The Truth Behind Puritanism The Puritanism belief system is much more
complex than it appears to be. Whenever Puritanism comes to mind, we probably
think of purity and cleanliness. However, the Puritan s have a very interesting way
of achieving purity. The Puritans believe that God has predestined the salvation of
certain souls and one can do nothing to change this. They also believe there is zero
credit for good works and that people by nature are wholly sinful and can only
achieve goodness by severe discipline, but living a godly life is the result of being
chosen as one of God s elect. The elect are said to be saved from hell by
predestination, and at some point during their life, they will be blessed with an inner

Repentance would allow God to forgive them and, in turn, motivate them towards
living a lifestyle that would glorify God. The punishments that would often evoke
repentance included tongue piercing with a hot awl and execution by hanging or
burning at the stake. God s Word was respected more than anything and if anyone
blasphemed against the religion their tongue was to be pierced with a hot awl. Also,
if you were caught lying, bearing false witness, or withholding the truth from a court
/judge/jury you were eligible to have your tongue bored through. This type of
punishment ensured you would remember the importance of respecting God s Word;
a punishment that would be a reminder to anyone else who saw your tongue that
blasphemy would not be tolerated. The next form of punishment could be considered
the most lenient punishment compared to other demeaning punishments. You could
be hung or burned at the stake if you were found guilty of murder, adultery, or
fornications. One historical example can be found in the year of 1637, during the
Fall in Boston. A young lady named Mary Latham was found to have an implied
affair with a man named James Britton. Latham was married to an elderly man at the
time but spent a certain amount of time partying with younger men and after a night
of partying she fell into a corrupt engagement with James Britton. Both were found

and American citizens. In Like the Greedy Wolf, the article focuses more on the
history and events people assume took place at the time, but did these events actually
happen? The article does not go into detail on the impact it made upon the leaders

News eventually spread by the Missouri Republican. The newspaper stated, The

The Great Gatsby Influence On Society
The Great Gatsby is a novel written by Frances Scott Fitzgerald in which he
portrayed the American society of the period known as The Jazz Age. The Jazz
Age is marked by spontaneous, carefree behavior of people who placed great
emphasis on the materialistic things and hedonistic way of life due to the end of the
Great Depression. The novel evokes the atmosphere and follows the lives of
characters belonging to the upper class. The central character of the novel is Jay
Gatsby. Fitzgerald used features of the romantic and tragic heroes and combined
them to form the Gatsby s character. Gatsby created his own world based on the
unrealistic expectations, isolated himself from the society, and cling onto idealistic
ideas. In contrast, it were not his ideas that made him fall; it was society. Gatsby was
marked as the one who... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is an idealist who builds his life around one idea: love. His innocent belief in the
achievement of that goal, made him vulnerable, made him easily manipulated, and
crashed down by the society. This is why he is the Great Gatsby. Fitzgerald succeeded
in presenting him as a romantic hero with a tragic ending. Although he earned his
money in an immoral way and became one of the members of the upper class he
was perfectly ready to throw it away along wit his life when Daisy destroys his
faith in her as the incarnation of his dream (Mizener 135). His actions were based
on greater values than those of other characters. His fall happened when Daisy
rejected him, but he rose again when he committed suicide. He stayed true to
himself and decided rather to kill himself than to be a part of this modern world
that has become a moral and spiritual wasteland (Resneck Parr 60). He clung on one
idea but it is not an idea that killed him; it is society who made him so disgusted by
the world that the death seemed greater than being
The Paradox In Robert Heinlein s All You Zombies
All You Zombies, by Robert Heinlein, is a famous science fiction story that
entwined one of the best paradoxes. The idea of one person being everyone,
including her own mother, father and daughter and has to continuously leap
through time to be able to exist. Despite that paradox isn t revealed until near the
end of the story, it is symbolised through the bartenders ring of a snake eating it s
own tail. Heinlein also shows how the paradox might affect a person s view of the
world through the idea of solipsism. The main point, however, is how the paradox is
literally everything in the story. The Unmarried Mother, or Jane before the sex
change, is the protagonist in the story, and all the other characters of the story as
well. Although in most cases this would be impossible, the story is a paradox. A
paradox, something that seems possible until further investigated and found that it is
logically unacceptable, is the very reason Jane exists. Jane was unknowingly born a
hermaphrodite, and lived unhappily in an orphanage. As the story progressed, she
meets a man... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Near the end of the story, Jane travels to their personal quarters and thinks about
presence. I know where I came from but where did all you zombies come from?...
You Aren t really there at all. There isn t anybody but me jane here alone in the
dark, knowing that their life is based off a paradox, Jane starts to wonder how
everything else is out there before stating that there is only Jane. This way of
thinking is Solipsism, the idea that the mind is the only thing that can be known to
exist and anything outside the mind is unwarranted. This is a motivation for Jane to
continue to replay the paradox over and over again, because Jane is everything. Jane
is every person, Jane is the reason behind everything and Jane is the

What Is A Story To Write A Short Story
Momma look! This little girl was standing on hill, the wind blowing her dress and
hair in all different directions. This was the perfect time to do what she loved; fly
her kite. Good job sweetie, the mom replied. Her mom was sitting a distance away
under an umbrella to keep the wind out of her face, holding a book. The girltwirled
and danced with her diamond shaped kite flying high above her head, she was in a
state of pure happiness, thankful for something to do after the rainy days. All of a
sudden a giant gust of windblew to hard for her seven year old hand to hold. Her kite
blew far across the rolling hills ahead of her. Nooo! She exclaimed in alarm. Her
mom barley took a glance at her daughter and kept her face buried in the book and
her body faced away from her. The little girl glanced around and didn t see anyone
who might see her run after it. So she took off in her bare feet, running towards the
woods where she saw it fly. The little girl stopped at the beginning of woods filled
with thick trees and many leaves that had fallen to the ground sopping wet from all
the puddles. She took one step and then another. She got a bout a half a mile in
when she could no longer see the exit to this dense forest. It s like the trees moved
so she couldn t see. The sky kept getting darker the father she walked, silence filling
the air. Not even the wind could get through. Taking double takes as she looked for
the kite. She saw a bright flash of blue and pink. It was
Benefits Of Implementing Business Intelligence Systems
Benefits of Implementing Business Intelligence Systems There are a variety of
benefits when it comes to implementing a business intelligence system. Because the
nature of business intelligence is to gather data about customers and analyze the
information possessed, it leads to the idea that business intelligencesystems can help
create better customer relationships. This is due to the fact that the company has a
better understanding of what their customers desire and therefore, are able to serve
them better. When customers are happy and their needs are fulfilled, the company is
able to create customer loyalty, in which customers feel confident in returning to a
company with their business because they know they can expect a pleasant
transaction. With customer loyalty and better customer relationships also comes an
improvement in sales. Customers frequently return to conduct business, as well as
alert others of the company via word of mouth. This can generate more revenue for
the company. However, there is another way that business intelligencesystems can
lead to an improvement of sales. Business intelligence can help companies determine
how to promote and advertise their products to potential customers. For example, in
the grocery industry, companies can promote certain products by sending out
coupons to their customers that are likely to purchase that item. When the customer
receives the coupon, they are more likely to purchase the item, whether or not they

This paper is about Aygo, small city car, launched by Toyota in 2005. in order to
satisfy customer needs. What is special about Aygo is the fact that it was an
innovative product on the market, produced by using the environmentally friendly
technology and at the end it was the attempt, I can say for sure, very successful one
to produce such an innovative product in the cooperation with Peugeot and
Citroen. Toyota Peugeot Citroen Automobile Czech (TPCA) is an IJV between
Toyota Motor Corporation and PSA, Peugeot Citroen in Kolin s Czech Republic.
Both companies own exactly half of the shares (50/50 JV). With this unique
automobile partnership, its joint plan for the development and production of small
compact vehicles and the construction of a new manufacturing factory, Toyota and
PSA decided to react to the changing European customer market and to found a
whole new category of small, modern and technologically advanced vehicles. In
fact, both companies see growing demand for such cars in Europe and the new
platform vehicles to be built in the Czech Republic is marketed under the Toyota,
Peugeot and Citroen brands. The strategy for Aygo has gone far beyond the simple
reaction to the changing European market. It is a systematic and continuous way of
leveraging local and global knowledge accompanied with the idea of co creating

Symbolism In Stranger Than Fiction By Marc Forster
In the contemporary film Stranger Than Fiction by Marc Forster, Harold Crick, the
main character is being written about in a book without him knowing that the voice
in his head was the narrator. To make things worse the author does not even know
that her main character is real and that everything she writes down happens to him
in real life. Symbolism is vital and it adds depth and emotion to the film by making
the film more relatable to the audience, makes a greater impact, instead of just being
a scene that is straight through, it is more flexible, and it is also a crucial part of the
plotas one symbolcan drive the characters to be more dynamic and last the length of
the whole plot.
The audience can make a much better connection with the film when symbolism is
used, better than relating to an action or object alone. For the audience, a story that
you can not read into is extremely boring but, when symbolism is used, it makes the
audience connect to the story and develop their own ideas about the story or scene.
For example, when Mrs. Pascal gives Harold cookies, it symbolises the spreading of
happiness. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If there was not symbolism, the story or scene would not have much detail or be
flexible within different audience members. Without symbolism, the story will
just seem like the author put no thought into it but, when symbolism is added to it,
the story seems more detailed. When Harold tells Kay, the author of the book that
is being written about Harold, to finish her book and to kill him in the book which
will actually kill him in real life, this symbolises acceptance of fate. If there was
not this sort of symbolism in this scene it would seem like this story had no
emotion or detail. Symbolism is a necessary element to having a story with emotion
and detail, everybody has a different perspective on what a certain things symbolises,
so it creates the story to be more flexible as
A Comparison of Creating the Myth and Beauty and the...
Linda Seger s hero myth from her publication Creating the Myth is very thorough
in the steps involved in creating a hero of a story. All ten steps are very common to
a typical hero story. However, there are some gaps in her theory. An example of a
story that does not fit Seger s theory is the Disney version of the fairy taleBeauty and
the Beast. This popular cultural phenomenon has within it an atypical hero, one who
pokes holes in Seger s hero myth theory. This atypical hero, simply named Beast,
does not fit all ten of the steps in a typical hero story.
It is obvious that Beast does not fit Seger s theory the moment he is introduced in
the story. He described as a spoiled, selfish, and unkind prince [with] no love in his ...

Seger states that in fairy tales an old woman, a dwarf, a witch, or a wizard helps
the hero . . . The hero achieves the goal because of this help, and because the hero
is receptive to what this person has to give (173). Conversely, Beast is helped by
the very damsel he imprisons. Belle is a normal woman, not a witch or a wizard;
she has no special powers and is not old or dwarfish in any way. Also, Beast is
extremely reluctant to accept any help from her. In the Disney version of the story,
Belle tries to teach Beast how to control his temper and be more compassionate and
loving. Beast is not receptive at all to this help throughout the story, but still
manages to defeat the curse left on him by a self revelation. He decides after Belle s
departure from his castle to learn to love and be kindhearted. Although her help may
have had an impact on his transformation, it was the mere presence of her and his
own self conscience that ultimately helped him conquer his relentless curse. This is
quite different from what Seger illustrates in her hero myth theory.
Furthermore, the sixth through the eighth steps in Seger s hero theory do not apply
to Beast s situation in Beauty and the Beast. In these steps, according the Seger, the
hero
begins all his tests and obstacles necessary to overcome evil . . . In
First Seminole War Essay
The first Seminole war started when Andrew Jackson became general of the
southern army. The war was only a year long. The first attack on Fowltown was
surprising and outraged the Creek Indians and lead to further battles. Andrew Jackson
was born on March 15,1767. Andrew Jackson s mother was named Elizabeth Jackson.
His father, Andrew Jackson, died a few days before he was born. He was born in
Waxhaws, South Carolina. He was a lawyer, representative, and a judge. He worked
in South Carolina as a lawyer. He was elected as the seventh president of the United
Statesin 1828, he served 2 terms from 1828 to 1837. He died on June 8, 1845. While

Most of the battles were in Florida and in southern Georgia. The battles started
because the Seminole Indians were allowing any escaped slaves to become a part
of their tribe. The southern states didn t like that so they declared war on the
Seminole Tribe. The first attack was on November 21 when American troops
attacked the Creek Indian village of Fowltown which is now Decatur county. The
troops came again on the 23rd of November and Neamathla the chief of the village
and his tribe came out of the swamps and ambushed the Union soldiers .The attacks
on Fowltown ended a war of words that had gone on for months between
Neamathla and Major David.E.Twiggs the commanding officer at Fort Scott on
the lower Flint River in Michigan. Neamathla refused to move his tribe from the
lands ceded by the the US by the Treaty of Fort Jackson. The Treaty of Fort Jackson
said that the Creek Indians had to cede 23 million acres of their land. The Treaty
was signed on August 9,1814. That was what caused the first attack on Fowltown.
The estimate of Fowltown Indians killed is 6 to 8. Aaron Hughes was a fifer, a non

Personal Statement Of A Research Study At Penn State

me to continue working for him. During the time of disagreement, I sought out

Civil Rights Movement In The 60 s
The first amendment gives Americans the right to freedom of speech whether that

non verbal gestures count as protesting too. During the 1960s, there were many
movements taking place such as: The Civil Rights Movement, Anti Vietnam War

movements changed government policies and helped shaped the way Americans live
today. Americans started to realize that relying on Government officials to make the

Boyle, D., Boyle, J and Carpenter (2014) research titled The SEC s Renewed
Focus on Accounting Fraud about the SEC initiative on accounting fraud detection
and misleading disclosure by implementing the Accounting Quality Model (AQM)
using the Extensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) (p.68). Boyle et al.
mentioned Craig M Lewis, director and chief economist of the SECs Division of
Economic and Risk Analysis, described AQM as a highly technical robust tool on
detecting fraud and other accounting anomalies, while others called it Robocop as
the use of XBRL tags is capable of computerized analysis and enhanced access to
financial data by the stakeholders, the public and the SEC staff (pp.68 69). Boyle et

financial filings, processed it and keeps it in the database and enable open access of
the financial data within 24 hours after being posted on the Electronic Data
Gathering, Analysis, and Retrieval (EDGAR) System. Boyle et al. summarized that
accounting fraud and improper disclosures are evident in SEC s renewed focus on
its resources through the technology based tool AQM as key component, while the
SEC Financial Reporting and Audit Task Force initiatives focus on exploring and
identifying areas vulnerable to fraudulent activities by increased emphasis on
financial reporting fraud detection and disclosure irregularities (p.69). Boyle et al.

Transformative Learning
As humans, we use stories to recognize our experiences, craft our sense of self and
realize our place in the world (Kroth Cranton, 2014, p. 35). When we share our
personal narratives with others we are doing more than simply recounting an
event, we are creating and expressing our identities. According to Kroth and
Cranton (2014), narratives are small steps to transformative learning (p. 29),
because when we hear narratives we are drawn into unfamiliar experiences and
realize different perspectives that present challenges to our own. Stories expose
discrepancies between what is already known and what is newly discovered,
creating a dilemma and prompting the process of transformative learning.
Transformative learning can also occur when we share our personal narratives as it
leaves our stories open to the re interpretation of other s, who through different
perspective lenses can see our stories and provide alternative explanations and this
can cause us to reflect and assess our stories, and our sense of self. (Kroth Cranton,...

it s characters live. One of my favorite novels, The Brothers Karamazov, illustrates the
futility of a world without God and it has stamped moral truths deeply into my soul.

Barbarian Women Vs Medieval Women
The ways in which medieval women, such as Roman and barbarian women, used
beauty products or the certain beauty rituals they had showed evidence as to how
women were integrated into their prospective societies. The idea of beauty also
varied from culture to culture. Romans felt that women should do everything in
their power to look as close to perfect as they could. A barbarian woman on the
other hand, did not have much emphasis on her outward appearance but instead
focused on her contribution to her tribe. Roman authors such as Ovid, Seneca, and
Juvenal had varying views on the subject of Roman women and their beauty
products. Some of the authors felt that women should do as much as they can to
appear perfect including standing or sitting a certain way to look more physically
appealing while others felt they were consumed by their looks . Barbarian women
on the other hand did not put much emphasis on their physical appearance and for
this some authors such as Tacitus felt that barbarian women were more virtuous than
Roman women . It can be inferred that based on the level of civilization a society
has will determine how much pressure is put on a medieval woman to look a certain
way and how wide the gender differentiation is in each society. Roman women had

While there can be an argument for this it can also be said that women in medieval

they could express themselves. Roman women were not permitted to be in any form

Cosmetics are seen everywhere in the market nowadays. Those who care a lot about
how they present themselves to other people would definitely buy them out of need.
These products are often sold at a high price and this is a problem to those who
cannot afford them.
However, recently, products of the same name but different price have been popping
up in the market. Consumers all around the world would notice that these products
are priced lower than the usual. These cheaper products would most probably be
counterfeited beauty products.
Counterfeited products are imitations of the real thing but usually sold in a reduced
price. The reason why people still buy counterfeited products is because who would
want to resist a bargain? Bargain prices are something good to us but considering
what would happen if we buy and use these counterfeits, it would not be worth it.
Even though they look the same, these counterfeits are far from the original.

Firstly, counterfeited beauty products should be avoided because they have been

for this is mainly because these fake products do not go along with the
Essay about Willie Nelson s Music Makes Me Happy
Going Busking is not as easy as it looks. You have to have a talent such as being a
mime, singing, playing an instrument, or dancing. I played piano in a band with
my friends; our number one song was On the Road Again by Willie Nelson. Willie
Nelson changed music for some people and I will be talking about music changing
people s lives. Willie Hugh Nelson is a country musicsinger, song writer, and guitar
player, he was an author, poet, and activist. The album Shotgun Willie Made him a
very famous country artist. Willie was born in the great depression and he wrote his
first song when he was seven and joined a band when he was ten. He impacted
people s lives because in the great depression everyone didn t have a lot to live for and

There are a lot of times in country music that there is a bass, guitar, singer, piano, and
drums. That is what our band is. The bass and the drums are for keeping the beat
and sounding good. The piano and the guitar are usually leading and if one is then
the other is the background. And of course the singer is the lead singer. Especially in
country music, sometimes there are more than one singer and there is a background
singer.
Busking is like showbiz that is the same as an entry level job. If you perform well
enough someone could discover you and you could join the ranks of famous
performers. First you have to find a good place where people walk by or drive, then
you can tell people about it and that will get some to come, and you have to pick a
good time to go. If you go when everyone is in school and at work you won t get
money and you won t get discovered.
We had a good turnout. Lots of people went. It is all because we used all of the
skills that I have told you. I learned piano, learned how to play On the Road Again .
I had some trouble singing and playing piano but it all worked out I learned that if
you want to get better you need to practice and push yourself. You will not get
anywhere if you stay in the same place.
There are lots of ways that music can impact people s lives. Our project told us to
impact the environment around you, by using music, and we did. We went in
Disadvantages Of The Fptp Electoral System
1.The MP for my area is Gavin Newlands. The MSP for the constituency is George
Adam. The MSP s for the region are Neil Bibby, Mary Fee, Maurice Corry, Jamie
Greene, Maurice Golden, Ross Greer and Kenneth Macintosh. 2.Gavin Newlands,
who is the MP was elected under the First Past the post electoral system. The MSP
s were elected under PR system, called Additional Member System. 3.There are
two types of electoral systems which are First Past the Post (FPTP) and
Proportional Representation (PR). FPTP is used to elect the MPs to gain seats in
the UK parliament. The one who gets the majority of the votes wins. PR is a form
of an electoral system. This decides the fact that, on the basis of the number of
votes that have been made, must correspond on the seats they will receive. This
ensures that the votes are all counted for. There are different types of systems
under PR too such as, STV and AMS The advantages of FPTP are that it is easily
understood by voter when they are placing a vote. This is because it is simple and
easy to use. This means that the candidate who gets the most votes wins and they
only have to put a cross next to the candidate of their choice which keeps it very
simple. Another advantage is that the results of the elections are produced very
quickly. The votes are counted for each of the candidates in a constituency and
whoever gets the most votes wins. This is a reasonably quick process with the
whole election results getting counted the next day. One disadvantage of using the
FPTP system is that it does not produce a proportional result. This means that the %
of votes received using FPTP does not compare with the % of seats gained. This is
unfair and means that the winners are over represented. Another disadvantage of
FPTP is that it can result in a lot of wasted votes. This means that as it is the person
with the most votes that wins, all the other votes are discarded, and individuals do
not have their votes heard. An advantage of PR is that, no votes are wasted, unlike
FPTP. All the votes under PR system are counted and taken into consideration. It is
more proportional as the number of seats do reflect on the number of votes that were
put in for each party. Another advantage is
Symbols in Uglies
Judy Burnside Mrs. McClure English 11 Honors, Period 7 3 Jan 2013 Have you
ever wanted to be perfect? Have you ever wanted a perfect society? Imagine a
place where everyone was equally beautiful, and there were no responsibilities or
worries. A place where you were given everything you could ve ever asked for. If
you had a place this luxurious, would you still want it? Sometimes we think our
lives would be fulfilled if we were smarter, or prettier, or more athletic. It is these
times that we neglect to see how great our lives already are. This is the theme of
Scott Westerfeld s novel, Uglies. Like all great writers, Scott Westerfeld supports the
theme of his novel with symbolism that is hidden in every character and event. Uglies

Cable tells Tally, Then I ll make you a promise too, Tally Youngblood. Until you
help us, to the very best of your ability, you will never be pretty (Loc 1309). After
hearing this, Tally reluctantly agrees to help Dr. Cable find Shay. This moment is
important because it symbolizes weakness and selfishness in human nature.
Sometimes, we are willing to go against someone we love if it benefits ourselves.
Tally wants to be perfect so badly that she is willing to turn her friend in to the
authorities to get the operation she wants. Dr. Cable gives Tally supplies to get to
the Rusties and a heart shaped locket that she is to activate when she finds Shay.
Once Tally activates it, Special Circumstances will be able to find the location of
the Rusties and arrest any outlaws living there. Tally travels for several days and
nights and finally gets to the Rusties. Shay is happy to see her, and immediately
introduces her to all of her new friends. These friends include David, a sixteen year
old that ran away from the surgery because he wanted to stay pure. When Tally
meets him, she thinks to herself, He was an ugly, but he had a nice smile. And his
face held a kind of confidence Tally had never seen in an ugly before (Loc 2180).
David represents pureness and reality. In our world, we classify someone as
beautiful if they have exquisite features that are rare. In Tally s world, everyone was
given these rare features,

Clearly Miriam is an ordinary girl and it is in fact Paul s mother and her

The Bank Of England s Monetary Policy
This essay will examine how the Bank of England s Monetary Policy committee
uses monetary policy to control the main macro objectives such as inflation and
balance of payments. It will discuss how interest rates are determined through an
equilibrium between money supply and demand. Monetary policy is a
macroeconomic policy laid down by the MPC to affect aggregate demand using
interest rates . The committee meets to set a bank rate with an aim to fix problems in
the economy. The Bank of England s main objective is to keep inflationat a target rate
of 2% using interest rates. This decision effects mortgage and bank deposit rates so is
important to control . Over the past decade inflation has been fluctuating largely with
an upward trend... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The bank of England uses several techniques to control interest rates. They do this in
order to keep the money market in equilibrium. Equilibrium interest rate is set where
the money supply and demand for money is the same, shown in the diagram below.
If the rate of interest began to rise above the equilibrium level there would be an
excess supply of money. This excess supply could be used to invest and buy bonds
as people have more money balances than they need. This will in turn push up
bond prices and interest rates will begin to fall due to the inverse relationship. Low
interest rates encourage people to spend more. The opportunity cost of spending is
saving, if interest rates are lower, people will receive less interest on their savings
so there will now be a lower opportunity cost of spending. This spending will increase
demand to the point where it is back at equilibrium.
If the rate of interest then fell below the equilibrium level there would be excess
demand of money. This would mean that people do not have enough money for
what they need. This will mean that banks will sell bonds back to the government in
return for cash lowering the bond price. Interest rates will begin to rise and demand
for money will decrease until equilibrium is reached .
If the open bank buys bonds, the cash the recipients receive is then deposited in
banks allowing the banks to credit create. This is then multiplied in

Market segmentation, where the market is divided into different groups of consumers

the marketing energy in order to identify the demand and target of segment and

companies to differentiate their customers and behaviours in order to adjust their
marketing mix strategy to cater the need of different market segments. There are four
segmentation bases, which are geographic, demographic, psychographic and
behavioral segmentation (Sulekha, 2013).

Land Of Contradiction
In April of 1861, the Civil War broke out in America, a war that was heavily based
on the difference of opinion about slavery. The article Land of Contradiction by
Justin Martin shows the experience of a traveling undercover journalist, Frederick
Law Olmsted, who writes about the South, as he encounters new people and observes
different lifestyles. Readers are able to see the South s way of living through the use
of slaves, but through the eyes of a Northerner. This helps with the understanding of
the mindset of the Northerners when opposed to the South, which are the root
feelings for the start of the war. As Olmsted was undercover, he was able to get up
and close with the Southerners, revealing many secrets about the South that suggest
why Southerners acted the way they did prior to the war, and why their economic
status declined after the war. Through this article, one may understand the different
views that were present during the civil war about the South s harsh treatment of
slaves, creating the understanding of the issue... Show more content on

The South s agriculture was predominantly dependent on slave labor prior to the
Civil War. Although the North continued to industrialize and improve its
technology to advance their farming, the South stuck to their tradition of using
slaves, which proved to be inefficient. By 1860, the productivity of the North was
almost double of that of the South, and the reason is revealed in this article. When
he was traveling short distances, he found the slaves to be completely inefficient.
Only few slaves on a farm were capable of working for their masters, others were
often too young, too old, or too ill to work. The white men didn t like work because
of their belief that work was meant for slaves, and the slaves that worked never gave
their best effort, for they were lacking
The Emergence And Development Of Russia s Radical
During...
Frank Masi
History 127B
How would you explain the emergence and development of Russia s radical
intelligentsia during the post reform era? What were the major ideological positions
and differences? Why were these positions believed to be the only possible paths to
significant political change?
The emergence of the intelligentsia can be heavily attributed to a general feeling of
unease towards the future of the Russian Empire, which is examined by David
Saunders in his book entitled Russia in the Age of Reaction and Reform: 1801 1881 ,
in which he explains how the intelligentsia first came to fruition: The intelligentsia
was not solely the product of aristocratic disillusionment, for Nicholas I s domestic
critics came from both privileged and non privileged parts of the community. The
emergence of the post Decembrist generation of dissidents ought to be related to the
phenomenon of social displacement in general . . . (148)
Developing out of a sense of displacement and members of the intelligentsia felt as
though they had not overcome their own divisions from the masses, and had
recently lost their ties to the state (Saunders 148). The intelligentsia was socially
diverse but was heavily dominated by noble, privileged members of Russian society
who felt marginalized by Catherine the Great s Charter to the Nobility in 1785 and
who witnessed a significant decline in political influence. Catherine was one of the
first ruling members to limit the power of outside groups,

Angel Investors And The Venture Capitalists

capitalists? Angel Investors are the sophisticated ones who generally used to fund the
startup companies. Any entrepreneur who wishes to establish a startup might search
for investors. And investors who are willing to fund are known as Angel Investors.
And the amount availed through investments for startups are called Angel
Investments. Also there is another kind of investment also called as capital
investment. Depending upon the policies evolved at management level of a business
these investors are categorized. Not only confined to financial return, some factors
such as motivation drive investors to spend with startups. Either from a relation
prospective or from some successive entrepreneurs, we expect them to be investors. It
would reflect a better understanding between angel investor and startup entrepreneur,
if proper agreements are made at the start of business. Angel Investors might be of
different types which probably contain
Family Investors: This kind of investor is not really a usual Angel Investor at all,
except a supportive family member that knows you . Motivation behind this
investment is to support to you as a family member or friend. These kinds of
investments are totally built up with trust, emotions and personal. Depending upon
the financial situation and relationships, this type of investments can work only if
everyone comes with their eyes wide open.

Essay On Superheroes
After having established what a superhero is, were they come from and what the
narratives represent, the next question is: why do we read superhero comic books
(or watch superhero movies for that matter)? At the core, superheroes are about
wish fulfilment for creators as well as for readers. They are about imagining a
better world and creating alternative versions of it and of oneself. Bigger, brighter,
bolder they are about erasing what makes you weak, what makes you marginalized.
Steve Rogers is an asthmatic, weak and ill young son of Irish immigrant; Joe Simon
and Jack Kirby, his creators, were poor, Jewish artists faced with increasing Anti

He represents the go between of two worlds the one of regular mortals and the
superhero world. Thus he straddles the boundary of a duality or an opposition and is
simultaneously on one side and the other, trying to incorporate both opposing sides
(through the split in regular and superhero identity). Hence the superhero is
characterized by the tension of belonging to two different worlds, he represents an
identity crisis and speaks for the people, who like him, belong to different worlds
and are not entirely at home in either. This is why they are so engaging; superhero
comics demonstrate facilitate the empowerment of those who have traditionally been
marginalized. In this sense, such superheroes straddle the division between being
denied power and having power. Superheroes have to do with power identification
with power, power that you either have, believe you have, or that you might like to
have.
In reading about the superhero s journeys, readers can explore their possible futures.
This therefore offers a form of escapism from reality and hope for the future.
Escapism, or rather distraction from reality is genereally speaking not something bad,
as it helps one deal with the actualities of one s current

I could not imagine how Tim O Brien, and the hundreds of thousands of people felt

know if I would have the courage that Tim O Brien talks about in The Things They

I suppose if I did stick it out and go into the military, I would probably go into the

Life Essay Examples Writing an essay on the topic of "Life Essay Examples" can be a challenging task, as the subject matter encompasses a vast and intricate array of experiences, perspectives, and philosophical dimensions. Life, being a complex and multifaceted phenomenon, poses a unique set of challenges for anyone attempting to encapsulate its essence within the confines of an essay. Firstly, defining the parameters of life itself can be a daunting undertaking. Life manifests in countless forms, each with its own narrative, struggles, and triumphs. Attempting to distill this diversity into a coherent and engaging essay requires a delicate balance between breadth and depth of exploration. The writer must navigate through the intricacies of human existence, addressing existential questions, cultural nuances, and individual journeys. Furthermore, the challenge lies in avoiding clichГ©s and trite observations. Life essay examples often run the risk of falling into common tropes and platitudes. Crafting an original and thought- provoking essay demands a fresh perspective and the ability to delve into the profound without succumbing to overused expressions. Life is inherently tied to our emotions, and navigating the fine line between sentimentality and rational discourse requires a careful and skillful approach. In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic of "Life Essay Examples" demands a nuanced understanding of the subject, a keen sense of originality, and the ability to weave together diverse threads of human experience. • 3. Maurice Wilkins Examples Francis Crick, Rosalind Franklin, James Watson, and Maurice Wilkins were all examples of scientists that came together to help form the detailed understanding of the structure of DNA that human civilization has today. The question that was solved by their work was, how do living organisms pass on traits to their offspring? The discovery was like a puzzle that was put together over time. Different scientists over the ages added a piece here and there. An example is Gregor Mendel. He worked with plants and observed the traits that were passed down from the parents to the offspring. By the 1950s, biologists found that chromosomes contain proteins along with DNA. This made scientists wonder how DNA could hold all the information needed to create
  • 4. Las Vegas Is A City Of The Strip Essay Las Vegas is a city that is widely known for its casinos, gambling, alcohol, wild parties, and live entertainment (which usually just entails strippers). It is known as being most adult s fantasy playground come alive, and because of this it has been dubbed as Sin City. Because of its nickname, and the way it is constantly being portrayed in the media it s easy to see why non locals can find it difficult to imagine there being any type of ordinary life occurring outside of the infamous Strip that isn t at all entwined with the glitz and glamour that one correlates with Las Vegas. Sin City locals, on the other hand, can most definitely vouch for there being life outside of the Strip, but also for there being no life outside of it. So much emphasis and attention is placed on the Strip that many locals feel that their life outside of it isn t as commemorative, and because of this they see no point in taking the time to enjoy their life here in Sin City. In order for locals to enjoy their life in Vegas ad be able to get the most out of it they must first accept that the fact that they live in a tourist town, set aside their own insider views for a moment to be able to look at the city through the eyes of a tourist, and learn to appreciate the life that there is outside and inside of the Strip. The first step that needs to be taken to appreciate your life here in Las Vegas is to accept that fact that you live in Las Vegas. By this I mean that you have to accept the fact that

Without boring you to the point of entering a deep and restful sleep, I plan to spare you the most minute details typical of a review, you can find those on B H Photo or Think Tankswebsite. Although, currently owning this bag and with zero intentions to part with it, I will attempt to remain objective. After lugging this bag through the ringer, I plan to discuss a few of the key elements from my experience using the Retrospective 20 followed by my conclusion. Furthermore, additional storage is available in two front storage compartments, and three small sub compartments. The main front compartment secures with a hook and loop system, plus offers a large storage capacity for items such as a 10 inch tablet. Offering maximum versatility and more than ample storage, this bag does not disappoint! Material One must consider many factors when selecting a material for a shoulder bag. Often, expending little thought to the matter beforehand, it s usually only after making the purchase that issues arise. Among many thoughts, resistance to weather is a very important aspect for many photographers; however, the intended use is instrumental in making an informed decision. Available options include the 100% canvas pinestone and sandstone, as well as the black brushed polyester; additionally, manufactured with a water repellant coating, either bag becomes a viable option. Purchasing the pinestone, durability of the material weighed profoundly in my selection, but the look and feel of the canvas won the day. Constructed with nylon webbing and thread, the shoulder strap is as comfortable as it is durable. Additionally, equipped with silicone non slip pads, the shoulder strap adheres extremely well to the shoulders, plus it s an absolute pleasure to wear ... even for long periods. Quality
  • 6. Home Confinement is the Solution to Prison Overcrowding... Home Confinement is the Solution to Prison Overcrowding Prison overcrowding is one of the largest problems facing the American criminal justice system today. Many people may think this issue does not affect them, but the problem becomes important when overcrowding forces prisoners to be granted early release. In cases of extreme brutality, the sentence served by criminals can be short. Because prison space in the city is tight, each offender can be accommodated only briefly ( Punishment ). Prison overcrowding causes a controversy of positive and negative views concerning the construction of more prisons. Supporters claim that building more prisons is the only solution, while opponents argue that alternative methods ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the article Prison Staff Feel Effects of Horrendous Overcrowding, Jilly Welch states that, Many prisons are employing only the minimum number of officers to meet health and safety standards. Arguments have been made that if prison overcrowding is not properly managed, the security of prisons will be endangered, placing staff and inmates in unsafe, life threatening conditions, and jeopardizing public safety. Supporters claim that more prisons need to be built to accommodate offenders as well as to ensure the safety of staff members. The number of inmates in the nation s jails and prisons rose again last year, to a record 1.8 million, though crime rates have dropped for seven consecutive years (Welch). Supporters of building prisons argue that without the growth of prisons, crime rates would have risen dramatically. Therefore advocates claim that building more prisons will help to continue decreasing the rate of crime while facilitating the needs of prison overcrowding. They say that prisons need to be designed to facilitate inmate supervision by staff in the most cost effective manner. If they are not designed correctly, the cost of extra personnel can be extremely high, outweighing any initial advantage in construction cost that a more staff intensive design might have had (Tipp 114). Therefore, supporters claim that although the construction of prisons may be expensive, if they
  • 7. A Controversial Policy For Combat Marital Rape A Proposed Policy to Combat Marital Rape Marital rape, a rape in which the perpetrator is the victim s spouse, is an underestimated, underreported reality that effects 10 14% of all women in the U.S (Basile, 2011). Although the U.S. government has made strides in sexual violence laws in the past few years, marital rape policies still have a long way to go. The instance of marital rape should be combatted by the U.S. Federal Government with a multifaceted plan. First, the U.S. federal government should offer states incentive to develop laws where no distinction is made between marital rape and non marital rape in terms of elements of the crime, statute of limitations, and length of the sentence. Second, the Federal Government should ratify the Declaration to Eliminate Violence Against Women. Third, the federal government should completely eliminate all funds for private abstinence only education. Fourth, the federal government should offer additional incentives to states who have rape education programs in their public high schools. A Note on the instance of Marital Rape While the marital rape experience extends to men as well, women are disproportionately affected by this form of sexual violence (Bryant Davis, 2011). Additionally, there is very little evidence that rape occurs in the context of homosexual relationships (Bryant Davis, 2011). This proposal will mainly address policies that are focused on alleviating marital rape for women in heterosexual marriages, since they
  • 8. Porter s Five Forces Porter s Five Forces Porter s Five Forces allowed us to analyse the influences on the industry in which Tesco operates. It highlights where Tesco has developed a competitive edge over its rivals. Potential entrants: Throughout the recession Tesco has continued to invest into expanding the company and developing efficiencies, making it as competitive as ever to defend against the threat of new entrants (Datamonitor, 2010, p. 19). The threat of a new competitor entering this sector is relatively low, due to the huge capital investment required to be competitive and establish a brand identity that stands out. Tesco then use this customer data to shape product offerings, create ranges, gain a better understanding of consumer segments and shopping profiles, help marketing to build loyalty and develop promotion offerings that suit target groups. Datamonitor (2010, p.19) reports amp;amp;quot;18% more UK households are redeeming (Tesco) vouchers than a year ago amp;amp;quot;. Money off vouchers are a very successful promotion tool during a recession, and thanks to information retained through the amp;amp;quot;Clubcard amp;amp;quot;, they can be personalised to suit the needs of individual customers, therefore increasing customer satisfaction. Suppliers: Large organizations, like Tesco, are in the position of control when it comes to negotiating with suppliers. In 2009, Tesco switched to sourcing many products directly from the UK, in an effort to lower prices in the Republic of Ireland to prevent shoppers heading North due to the devaluation of sterling against the euro. This allowed them to cut its prices by up to 22% in the border regions, helping them retain their competitive edge (http:/ /www.independent.ie/business/irish/memo shows tesco kept switch to uk suppliers secret 1754805.html). While all goods have a general purpose of satisfying the wants and needs of people, specific types of goods hold specialized places within the market and have various unique components. Network goods are one of these. The value of a network good increases when more consumers purchase and use them. This is obvious when noting the definition of network, being a connecting system. The network effectis what creates the aspects of a network good. The network effect refers to the fact that the more people use something, the more value it has. As cell phones become more popular in general within the market, for example, your own cell phone becomes more valuable now that its utility has grow. The actual value that these goods have for the customers can be split into two parts. One component is the value propagated by the product without taking the number of users into account. The second part, is the value that comes from being able to interact with other users because of the product. The prospect that networks are able to compete with each other implies a consideration about intellectual property law. Where one standard is owned and another is not, the unowned side is unlikely to succeed for obvious reasons. Most of the time, the monopoly will be the owner while the substitute networks will not. Even though it is not for sure that inferior standards win against superior standards, this may be mostly because most standards are supported by companies who have some kind of ownership. A classic example of this would be the telephone with both local and long distance capabilities. The company AT T was the legal monopolist according to Alexander Graham Bell s patent of the device in 1876. When the patent expired, AT T was still the long distance telephone monopolist due to the procurement of other patents. Because of this, AT T was the monopolist into the 20th century
  • 10. Sears And Corporate Social Responsibility Sears and Corporate Social Responsibility Introduction At one time, Sears prided itself as Where America Shops by staying in touch with consumers and upholding high product, employer, and customer standards. Today, Sears is struggling to remain a prominent American retailer. The company s present business model reflects a poor grasp of corporate social responsibility (CSR). Riddled with lawsuits, workplace issues, and a poor reputation with the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Sears consumers know today is undesirable. Lawsuits Product Lawsuits Several class action lawsuits were recently filed against Sears and Whirlpool regarding certain Kenmore and Whirlpool front loading washing machines sold between 2004 and 2006. These cases were filed after hundreds of customers reported mold growing in the unit, costing customers hundreds of dollars in either repairs or unit replacements. An estimated 450,000 Kenmore washing machines are affected. Sears denies any negligence in the case. While this problem lowers Sears s consumers customer satisfaction expectations, cases like this are routine amongst large retailers. An example of good CSR following an incident like this would be to admit fault and offer the affected consumers compensation for their troubles. Because Sears denies fault in the case, consumers were forced to file a class action lawsuit in order to receive compensation. These actions reflect Sears s recent inattention to customers interests, further

  • 12. The Pros And Cons Of Labor Unions Labor Unions could be defined as an organized association of workers, often in a trade or profaession, formed to protect and further their rights and interests. In the arcticle, Why the Labor Unions were Given a Bloody Nose in Canton, Mississippi, Richard A. Epstein explains the main claim, or statement, made in this article was that the UAW hoped for success in Canton, but the results were not in the UAW s favor. This author took a stance on the UAW s side. Epstein further explained what would ve happened if the UAW would have won the vote. In the article, Tesla denies claims that tried to block unionizing effort, by Dee Ann Durbin, the author explains that Tesla security guards allegedly refused to let off duty employees hand out leaflets about the United Auto Workersunion near the doors of the company s factory. In this article, Dee Ann Durbin was neutral. The argument that could be made from this article is would be does Tesla need a labor union? • 14. Through Gates of Splendor I.Introduction Through Gates of Splendor, by Abe C. Van Der Puy, is a Christian classic. It is about five daring missionaries who were willing to risk their lives just to spread the gospel to the isolated Aucas. They even financed this mission from their own pockets. They knew that their lives will be in danger, and they still have their families, but they trusted God and still continued their strong desire in life to spread the gospel to the Aucas. It is clearly evident that their lives were not wasted. Many college students volunteered to enter the foreign mission field, and more Indians came to church in Shandai. To make their identity unmistakable, the team even took photos of themselves wearing or holding the Auca gifts, made 6 x 9 enlargements tinted in lifelike colors, and dropped it to the Aucas. It is now the set date that they would all meet and make physical contact on land with the Aucas at Palm Beach, Nate breathlessly transmitted the good tidings to his wife about the coming of the Aucas, and said that he will contact her again at 4:35. However, the contact was never made. Before 4:35, the five had already fallen beneath the machetes of the Aucas, leaving behind their wives and children. There were no other clues other than Nate Saint s damaged wrist watch, found on his spear pierced body days later. It had stopped at 3:12. Even though the wives did not clearly understand their husbands death, they concluded that it sparked many other hearts for the people secluded and unknowing of a Savior. There were many suspenseful passages in Through Gates of Splendor. One moving passage occurs after the team gave several preliminary overtures of friendship to the Aucas. The men set out on a crucial January day in 1956 for a meeting with the Auca tribesmen, who had reacted with apparent tolerance to earlier gifts and messages. That night, again at Arajuno, Nate tossed sleeplessly, in hindsight thinking of devices they might have used to detain their Friday visitors. But Sunday morning before
  • 15. Essay on The Baroque Art Style The Baroque Art Style The era known as the Baroque period includes the seventeenth and most of the eighteenth centuries in Europe. The Baroque style was a style in which the art and artists of the time focused upon details and intricate designs. Their art often appeals to the mind by way of the heart. During this time the portraits began to portray modern life, and artists turned their backs on classical tradition. Much of the art shows great energy and feeling, and a dramatic use of light, scale, and balance (Preble 302). Buildings were more elaborate and ornately decorated. These works of art created history and altered the progress of Western Civilization. Architecture such as the palace of Versailles, and artists like... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He tended to explore the darker aspects of life and death in his paintings. Rebelling against conventional ideas divine intervention, Virgin Mary, and death he came to create his own style, forcing civilization ahead, and forcing others to follow his path. His paintings show pleading through man s direct knowledge of God (Cunningham and Reich 1640). By revolting against the classical traditions, he created his own style, which other artists wished to portray also. Thus, he created a forward movement in the fashion of art and architecture. Rembrandt was also an artist who wished to depict art in a new manner. He is known for being a fashionable portrait painter. In paintings such as Bathsheba, Rembrandt uses classical ideas and studies from nature to achieve balance. He perceived old images in a new light, transforming them into the light of human experience (Cunningham and Reich 183). He used contrast between light and darkness, and rich textures in order to create depth and enhance the emotional power of the portrait. Just as Caravaggio did, Rembrandt created a path in art and others followed. Jan Vermeer was a Dutch painter who fascinated by the use of light in his paintings. Unlike Caravaggio and Rembrandt, who used light for dramatic emphasis, Vermeer concentrated on the way light reveals each color, texture, and detail of the physical world (Preble 307). Vermeer

Hands by Sherwood Anderson Literary Analysis Essay Hannah Gandelman April.9, 2014 ENC1102 Literary Analysis on Hands by Sherwood Anderson The short story Hands by Sherwood Anderson is one of the twenty two stories in the book Winesburg, Ohio. This story specifically focuses on the psychological trauma of a teacher after being falsely accused of molesting his male students. This alone brings up the topics of homosexuality and sex, which was considered scandalous at the time it was published in 1919.Although this is true, it did not stop the public from finding this piece of literature as fascinating. In Hands, Anderson s form of symbolism, narration, and themes are what make this piece modern and unique. Anderson s use of symbolism to help convey the meaning of the story is what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although he was confused about what happened, he was sure of one thing and that was that the hands must be to blame (252). Wing perceives his hands as a symbol of his perceived guilt, or a manifestation of his fears. They symbolize critical turning points in his life, good and bad. He makes them the core of his actions and who is, allowing them to take control of his life. By personifying Wing s hands, Anderson makes the consequences of their actions the focus point of the story. An important aspect as to why this story was so well written was because of Anderson s choice of narration. The point of view that Anderson uses in Hands can be identified as third person limited. Third person limited is a method of storytelling in which the narrator knows only the thoughts and feelings of a single character, while other characters are only presented externally. Although it is told in third person, at one point the narrator is speaking directly to the reader, just like its done in the tradition of oral story telling, this brings the reader into the creation of the story. Twice in the story the narrator says that both the teller of the story and the listener, in this case, the reader, have to become poets, Let us look briefly into the story of hands. Perhaps our talking of them will arouse the poet who will tell the hidden wonder... (251). In the beginning of the story the narrator

A road that involves many hardships and sacrifices along the way; and when that road is a lonely one, with only oneself to rely upon, the hardship intensifies to become destructive to those involved. This is particularly true in the story Araby, where James Joyce portrays the trials and tribulations of a young boy s initiation into adulthood. Throughout the story, Joyce portrays many symbols to show the boys transition into becoming an adult. Joyce says, I sat staring at the clock for some time and, when its ticking began to irritate me, I left the room. The ticking of the clock symbolized the long and frustrating journey into adulthood; and we see from the fact that it irritated him, shows his desire to become an adult already. Later in the story, Joyce portrays an instance where the boy desires to be a man even though he is not; From the front window I saw my companions playing below in the street. It is as if he is an adult, towering over his friends, looking down upon them when in reality they are the same age as he is. After receiving money and permission from his uncle to go to the bazaar, we see another symbol used to show his lonely road into maturity. Joyce says, I took my seat in a third class carriage of a deserted train. After an intolerable delay the train moved out of the station slowly. The train is the symbol used here to show the long journey that is taking place in his life. The fact that it was deserted and that the train moved slowly shows that the transition into adulthood is a very slow moving time in a boy s life, which can be very lonely at times; I remained alone in the bare carriage. Joyce is not portraying how adolescents can act

The punishments that would often evoke repentance included tongue piercing with a hot awl and execution by hanging or burning at the stake. Despite that paradox isn t revealed until near the end of the story, it is symbolised through the bartenders ring of a snake eating it s own tail. Heinlein also shows how the paradox might affect a person s view of the world through the idea of solipsism. The main point, however, is how the paradox is literally everything in the story. The Unmarried Mother, or Jane before the sex change, is the protagonist in the story, and all the other characters of the story as well. To make things worse the author does not even know that her main character is real and that everything she writes down happens to him in real life. Symbolism is vital and it adds depth and emotion to the film by making the film more relatable to the audience, makes a greater impact, instead of just being a scene that is straight through, it is more flexible, and it is also a crucial part of the plotas one symbolcan drive the characters to be more dynamic and last the length of the whole plot. Beast is not receptive at all to this help throughout the story, but still manages to defeat the curse left on him by a self revelation. He decides after Belle s departure from his castle to learn to love and be kindhearted. Although her help may have had an impact on his transformation, it was the mere presence of her and his own self conscience that ultimately helped him conquer his relentless curse. This is quite different from what Seger illustrates in her hero myth theory. Furthermore, the sixth through the eighth steps in Seger s hero theory do not apply to Beast s situation in Beauty and the Beast. In these steps, according the Seger, the hero begins all his tests and obstacles necessary to overcome evil . . . In

I synthesized biomedical segmented polyurethane (s PU) using the step wise temperature control to model the total artificial heart. I tested the sPU model in vitro by seeding human cardiomyocyte cells on the sPU. When we share our personal narratives with others we are doing more than simply recounting an event, we are creating and expressing our identities. According to Kroth and Cranton (2014), narratives are small steps to transformative learning (p. 29), because when we hear narratives we are drawn into unfamiliar experiences and realize different perspectives that present challenges to our own. Stories expose discrepancies between what is already known and what is newly discovered, creating a dilemma and prompting the process of transformative learning. Transformative learning can also occur when we share our personal narratives as it leaves our stories open to the re interpretation of other s, who through different perspective lenses can see our stories and provide alternative explanations and this can cause us to reflect and assess our stories, and our sense of self. Barbarian Women Vs Medieval Women The ways in which medieval women, such as Roman and barbarian women, used beauty products or the certain beauty rituals they had showed evidence as to how women were integrated into their prospective societies. The idea of beauty also varied from culture to culture. Romans felt that women should do everything in their power to look as close to perfect as they could. A barbarian woman on the other hand, did not have much emphasis on her outward appearance but instead focused on her contribution to her tribe. Roman authors such as Ovid, Seneca, and Juvenal had varying views on the subject of Roman women and their beauty products. Some of the authors felt that women should do as much as they can to appear perfect including standing or sitting a certain way to look more physically appealing while others felt they were consumed by their looks . Barbarian women on the other hand did not put much emphasis on their physical appearance and for this some authors such as Tacitus felt that barbarian women were more virtuous than Roman women . However, recently, products of the same name but different price have been popping up in the market. Consumers all around the world would notice that these products are priced lower than the usual. These cheaper products would most probably be counterfeited beauty products. Counterfeited products are imitations of the real thing but usually sold in a reduced price. The reason why people still buy counterfeited products is because who would want to resist a bargain? Bargain prices are something good to us but considering what would happen if we buy and use these counterfeits, it would not be worth it. Even though they look the same, these counterfeits are far from the original. The MSP s were elected under PR system, called Additional Member System. 3.There are two types of electoral systems which are First Past the Post (FPTP) and Proportional Representation (PR). FPTP is used to elect the MPs to gain seats in the UK parliament. The one who gets the majority of the votes wins. PR is a form of an electoral system. This decides the fact that, on the basis of the number of votes that have been made, must correspond on the seats they will receive. This ensures that the votes are all counted for. There are different types of systems under PR too such as, STV and AMS The advantages of FPTP are that it is easily understood by voter when they are placing a vote. This is because it is simple and easy to use. This means that the candidate who gets the most votes wins and they only have to put a cross next to the candidate of their choice which keeps it very simple. Another advantage is that the results of the elections are produced very quickly. The votes are counted for each of the candidates in a constituency and whoever gets the most votes wins. This is a reasonably quick process with the whole election results getting counted the next day. One disadvantage of using the FPTP system is that it does not produce a proportional result. This means that the % of votes received using FPTP does not compare with the % of seats gained. This is unfair and means that the winners are over represented. Another disadvantage of FPTP is that it can result in a lot of wasted votes. This means that as it is the person with the most votes that wins, all the other votes are discarded, and individuals do not have their votes heard. An advantage of PR is that, no votes are wasted, unlike FPTP. All the votes under PR system are counted and taken into consideration. It is more proportional as the number of seats do reflect on the number of votes that were put in for each party. Another advantage is

They do this in order to keep the money market in equilibrium. Equilibrium interest rate is set where the money supply and demand for money is the same, shown in the diagram below. If the rate of interest began to rise above the equilibrium level there would be an excess supply of money. This excess supply could be used to invest and buy bonds as people have more money balances than they need. This will in turn push up bond prices and interest rates will begin to fall due to the inverse relationship. Low interest rates encourage people to spend more. The opportunity cost of spending is saving, if interest rates are lower, people will receive less interest on their savings so there will now be a lower opportunity cost of spending. This spending will increase demand to the point where it is back at equilibrium. If the rate of interest then fell below the equilibrium level there would be excess demand of money. This would mean that people do not have enough money for what they need. This will mean that banks will sell bonds back to the government in return for cash lowering the bond price. Interest rates will begin to rise and demand for money will decrease until equilibrium is reached . If the open bank buys bonds, the cash the recipients receive is then deposited in banks allowing the banks to credit create. This is then multiplied in

Frank Masi History 127B How would you explain the emergence and development of Russia s radical intelligentsia during the post reform era? What were the major ideological positions and differences? Why were these positions believed to be the only possible paths to significant political change? The emergence of the intelligentsia can be heavily attributed to a general feeling of unease towards the future of the Russian Empire, which is examined by David Saunders in his book entitled Russia in the Age of Reaction and Reform: 1801 1881 , in which he explains how the intelligentsia first came to fruition: The intelligentsia was not solely the product of aristocratic disillusionment, for Nicholas I s domestic critics came from both privileged and non privileged parts of the community. The emergence of the post Decembrist generation of dissidents ought to be related to the phenomenon of social displacement in general . . . (148) Developing out of a sense of displacement and members of the intelligentsia felt as though they had not overcome their own divisions from the masses, and had recently lost their ties to the state (Saunders 148). The intelligentsia was socially diverse but was heavily dominated by noble, privileged members of Russian society who felt marginalized by Catherine the Great s Charter to the Nobility in 1785 and who witnessed a significant decline in political influence. Catherine was one of the first ruling members to limit the power of outside groups,

Essay On Superheroes After having established what a superhero is, were they come from and what the narratives represent, the next question is: why do we read superhero comic books (or watch superhero movies for that matter)? At the core, superheroes are about wish fulfilment for creators as well as for readers. They are about imagining a better world and creating alternative versions of it and of oneself. Bigger, brighter, bolder they are about erasing what makes you weak, what makes you marginalized. Steve Rogers is an asthmatic, weak and ill young son of Irish immigrant; Joe Simon and Jack Kirby, his creators, were poor, Jewish artists faced with increasing Anti Semitism in the world Captain America was a way of escapism for both parties. The normal,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He represents the go between of two worlds the one of regular mortals and the superhero world. Thus he straddles the boundary of a duality or an opposition and is simultaneously on one side and the other, trying to incorporate both opposing sides (through the split in regular and superhero identity). Hence the superhero is characterized by the tension of belonging to two different worlds, he represents an identity crisis and speaks for the people, who like him, belong to different worlds and are not entirely at home in either. This is why they are so engaging; superhero comics demonstrate facilitate the empowerment of those who have traditionally been marginalized. In this sense, such superheroes straddle the division between being denied power and having power. Superheroes have to do with power identification with power, power that you either have, believe you have, or that you might like to have. In reading about the superhero s journeys, readers can explore their possible futures. This therefore offers a form of escapism from reality and hope for the future. Escapism, or rather distraction from reality is genereally speaking not something bad, as it helps one deal with the actualities of one s current

All I can do is imagine the initial panic and disbelief. I don t believe that I would respond calmly and just accept the fact that the military basically owned me for the duration of the Vietnam War. But I don t know if I would have the courage that Tim O Brien talks about in The Things They Carried to dodge the draft and flee to Canada. The only thing I can compare this to is when I almost quit the football team. I wanted to quit because I was too small and wasn t good enough to play, but I didn t wantmy friends on the team to think I was a quitter. It s just like how Tim didn t want to be known as a deserter but also didn t want to die in a war... I can t even comprehend the pain of losing a limb or becoming disabled, not only for yourself but for your family as well. Living with your parents and never truly gaining your independence. I m not built for war. I m a coward. I don t think I would have the guts to kill anyone. I could probably make it through bootcamp and all, but I don t think I could handle all the death and trauma. People come back different after what they ve seen. Even after just hearing what goes on during the war gives me an appreciation for the soldiers who have served. I suppose if I did stick it out and go into the military, I would probably go into the Navy or Coast Guard to avoid the front lines. I would have a higher chance of making it through the war unscathed. Only 2570 men died in the Navy during Vietnam and only seven in the Coast Guard. On one hand, they would pay for me to go to college but on the other hand none of that matters if I don t come back from the
