Howard Gardner s Theory Of Multiple Intelligences
Stages of cognitive and moral development, Interests and learning styles, and Howard Gardner s
Theory of Multiple Intelligences To meet my students needs, I will begin supporting them
psychologically, academically and develop classes that appeal to a wide range of different bits of
intelligence. I am going to develop assorted techniques to construct my lesson activities that allow
students to relate to the subject matter in ways that fit their interests, learning styles and strengths. I
have many students who show abilities in different areas of intellect consequently I will let them
work in collaborative education groups, either merging diverse intelligencestyles or gathering them,
is going to be a successful strategy. Alternatively, I will let my learners express their strengths in
several areas of intelligence, they will be able to feel comfortable and capable. I will take in
consideration Howard Gardner s Theory of Multiple Intelligencesand I will get these types of
intelligence involved in my lesson activities too, with the goal that each student can be encouraged
to examine and celebrate their own skills, for example: I will utilize team tactics for learners that
have an interpersonal intelligence inclination, they will develop cooperative learning skills as they
solve problems, answer questions, create learning games, brainstorm ideas and discuss the present
theme together. In the case of students with Intrapersonal Intelligence, they will explore

agreement. This cannot be disputed until the contract officially expires.
Employee Advantages:
пѓ the unionized employees have much more job security

Functional Classification of Joints
A joint is the site where two skeletal elements connect(1). Joints can be classified by both structure
and function. Structural classifications are based on the type of connective tissue binding the
structures together and whether a joint capsule is present(2, 3). There are three structural
classifications of joints; fibrous, cartilaginous and synovial. Functional classifications are based on
the amount of movement present(2). There are three functional classifications of joints;
synarthroses which are immobile, amphiarthroses which are slightly mobile, and diarthroses which
are freely mobile(3).
Fibrous joints are classified as having articulating bones joined by dense regular connective tissue
(mainly consisting of collagen) and no joint cavity(3). Majority of fibrous joints are synarthroses or
amphiarthroses. The three types of fibrous joints are sutures, gomphoses, and syndesmoses. Sutures
are synarthroses joints present on the skull(2). The sutural ligament which is composed of
connective tissue fibers and is continuous with the periosteum joins the two skull bones(1,2).
Sutures give strength and allow growth of the skull during childhood(3). Once growth has occurred
the dense regular connective tissue becomes ossified and the bones fuse together(3). Gomphoses
are synarthrosis joints that only occur between teeth and sockets of the mandible and maxillae(3).
Collagen fibers in the periodontal ligament link the root of the tooth and the bony socket(1).

Bernard Sanders
The 2016 Presidential Campaign candidate, Bernie Sanders, believes in creating a better America.
In proving to the American people, rich and poor, how great the country can be if all people vote
for who is trusted best as future President of the United States. The political figures in government
care about money and wealth, not the people. Bernard Sanders would be the best choice for
President for the main reason that he is concerned that the issues in America creates inequality for
the people. Sanders supports social and economic equality.

other person. To this present day, inequality and discrimination is a real issue. Sanders points out
police brutality against African Americans is nothing new. However, his main concern is that
people know about inequality toward blacks but do not know that the unemployment rate for the
African American youth is at fifty percent. (GOT FROM PG 14). A percentage that high on

Essay on Review of Film The World is Not Enough
Review of Film The World is Not Enough
The greatest spy the world has ever known returns for yet another adventure. Once again the
British secret service has to save the world from certain chaos and destruction and only one man is
good enough for the job, that man is Bond…James Bond . We all know the format, but we
love it. The title is The World is Not Enough, and is the final Bond film of the twentieth century,
finishing the millennium with the usual mix of guns, girls and gadgets.
The film utilises exotic locations around the world and yet manages to make London look good.
The Dome at the time of filming was innovative and hadn t yet been reduced to a joke by the
general public. The sets ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The film fits into the usual Bond criteria. It has explosions, guns, gadgets, girls (foreign girls of
course), chases and cars. There are many close escapes; the best being when Bond escapes from
the nuclear facility in Azabaizan. He is propelled out of the secret tunnels followed by a huge
fireball.
The stunts and special effects are staggering. How did they get Bond to fall from an exploding
balloon on to the Dome and bounce down as if was a perfectly normal activity? How did they
blow up an entire mountain? At the climatic ending Bond escapes from the villains lair with a girl,
whilst blowing the whole place up! The stunt people and special effects people must have
seemingly magical powers. No other film character or secret agent can outclass Bond!
Director Michael Apted has created a film that proceeds at a good pace with a strong,
straightforward story line, and yet also includes interesting and sometimes stunning locations. It is
his first action/adventure film, previously making his name as director of Gorillas in the Mist a
true life, documentary style film. He directs the scenes well and controls them with skill, in turn
bringing out the best in Pierce Brosnan, the cool shaken, not stirred Bond and the evil Renard,
(Robbie Carlyle).
Throughout the film, we are reminded that

Facts About Teenage Abortion
I was only 16. I stayed with my sister in the city where the clinic was, 45 minutes away from
where I lived, so my dad wouldn t know. I was nervous. It all took about a week. I had an
attachment to this thing you couldn t even physically hold. I d think about what kind of amazing
life a kid deserves and feel upset I wouldn t be able to provide that. Frances, 18 (Winter, 11)
Having an abortion is like a car crash, its sudden for the baby, it can affect your whole life, and the
life the baby doesn t get to live.
Unborn babies are considered human beings by the U.S government. The federal Unborn Victims
of Violence act was put in place to protect unborn children from murder and assault.
Abortion is happening all around us so often. Teens and young adults are constantly having fun, but
as they do they put aside what they know can happen thinking, it won t happen to me. 1 million
teens get pregnant each year, 78% are unintended and 35% get an abortion rather than keeping the
baby. (Facts and statistics about teenage abortion, np) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Abortion is considered murder by most people, but some don t like to look at it that way.
Therefore, you can look at it how abortion greatly affects the economy. A baby born today is an

Early Classical Greek Sculpture
The main feature that defines the Early Classical Greek sculpture of the human body from the
Archaic Greek sculpture of the body is the pose of the body. Early Classical Greek sculptures of the
human body are asymmetrical. During this time period, sculptures started adapting the contrapposto
pose to their sculptures. The contrapposto pose brought more life and energy to the sculptures than
the previous Archaic Greek sculptures. Another feature that defines the Early Classical Greek
sculptureof the human body is that the sculptures were made from hollow casting bronze. This
technique allowed for more complex action poses to be developed. The sculptures during this
period, like the archaic period, were highly idealized forms of the human body.

Letter From Birmingham Jail
In Letter from Birmingham Jail, Martin Luther King, Jr. refutes the condemnatory claims made by
eight white Alabama clergymen. By appealing to ethos, logos, and pathos King argues that he is
not an outsider and that the experience of African Americans in segregated Birmingham warrants
well intentioned demonstration and civil disobedience. In doing so, he calls attention to the
clergymen s hypocrisy and firmly garners their respect and understanding. Martin Luther King gains
the clergymen s trust and belief by establishing his moral character through ethos. King first
accomplishes this by employing a tone of respect. He addresses the clergymen in the beginning
paragraph as men of genuine good will whose criticisms are sincerely set forth (6 7). This makes the
clergymen feel that their integrity and their concerns are heavily valued. When King later
denounces their beliefs and actions, they are more likely to accept it as King s effort to achieve
understanding between the two groups rather than an attack on their personal characteristics. A
reverent tone is further built with King s choice to refer to the clergymen as sirs (121), my
Christian and Jewish brothers (175), and other honorifics throughout the letter. Even as his
frustration escalates, using these titles compel the white clergymen to continue reading the
arguments, believing the writer because the writer believes in their morality. Another major... Show

In this article Mexicans: Pioneers of a Different Type Gonzalez gives us an outlook different from
what we generally read when taught about American History. His effort is to explain how each of
the different Latino groups came. What was happening in their home towns that caused them to

through an enormous Latino population explosion. Gonzalez writes Mexican Americans

Mexicans as an obstacle to evolution. Unfortunately, because most did not know how to read or

Reproductive System
REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM FUNCTIONS вћў The major function of the reproductive system is
to make sure that the human species survives. вћў It is not necessary for every human being to
produce children, but in order to continue our human species, at least some people have to have
children. вћў The four main functions of the human reproductive system are: To produce egg and
sperm cells, To transport and sustain these cells, To nurture the developing offspring, and To
produce hormones. MAJOR ORGANS вћў In the human reproductive system, the major organs
include the external genitalia and many internal organs including gonads producing gametes and

вћў In each tube is a sewing needle size passageway. At the other end of each fallopian tube is a
fringed area that looks like a funnel and wraps around the ovary. The fallopian tube does not
completely attach to the ovary. вћў When an egg pops out of an ovary, it enters the fallopian tube
and tiny hairs in the tube s lining help push it down the narrow passageway toward the uterus. After
intercourse, sperm in the vagina passes through the cervix, the uterus, and then to the fallopian
tubes. If a sperm encounters an ovum (egg), conception occurs. 4. Ovaries вћў The female has two
oval shaped organs, called ovaries, that lie to the upper right and left of the uterus. вћў The ovaries
produce, store, and release eggs into the fallopian tubes during the process called ovulation. вћў
Each ovary measures about 1 1/2 to 2 inches in a grown woman. The ovaries are part of the
endocrine system and produce estrogen and progesterone, female sex hormones. вћў The ovaries
are among the first organs to be formed as a female baby develops. By 20 weeks, the ovaries
have about 6 to 7 million potential egg cells. From that point on however, the number begins to
decrease rapidly. A newborn infant has between 1 million to 2 million egg cells. By puberty, the
number of egg cells remaining is about 300,000. For every egg that matures and undergoes
ovulation, roughly a thousand will fail. During the course of an average

Blood Vengeance In Beowulf
Vengeance in Beowulf
While both blood feuds and wergild deal with murder, a blood feud requires a death for a death,
while wergild uses gold to make amends. When looking at this in a biblical perspective, it is
important to understand how these relate to justice. Biblical justice is a far cry from revenge.
Vengeance, however, takes the shape of both blood feuds and wergild, and while blood feuds are
fueled by revenge, wergild is important to bring justice in Beowulf s society. Vengeance in Beowulf
takes two main forms: the blood feuds, such as that of Grendel s mother, and the concept of
wergild; only wergild, however, conforms to the biblical definition of justice. Blood feuds play an
important role in Beowulf, if only to contrast with the idea of wergild. A blood feudtook place
when someone killed someone else, and the victim s family had the right and responsibility to
kill the murderer. However, this is not justice; it is revenge, often causing a deep and
uncontrollable split in a society. In Beowulf, this is only referred to once, when Grendel is killed,
and Grendel s mother comes, desperate for revenge, intent on avenging Grendel s death ( Beowulf,
69). While Grendel s mother could be seen as restoring justice, this blood feud only brought more
death and revenge. There were few rules or regulations, and revenge was often personal. Indeed, the
old testament blood feuds were more closely aligned with wergild, in that weregild was not wild
justice or a step outside

Coco Mademoiselle Ads
The Coco Mademoiselle ad by Chanel incorporates many explicit messages from the First Order of
Signification which can be deconstructed to reveal manipulative implicit meaning through the
Second Order of Signification . In the first explicit message the viewer sees that the signifier is
that the model is naked and is cover herself with maleclothing. The signified meaning is that it is
showing that the male presence is dominant as she is covering herself with men s suspenders. This
shows that even though this is an ad meant for women the male presence influences unrealistic
standards on how everyone sees beauty towards women. The next explicit image that can be seen in
the ad is the item that they are trying to sell the bottle of perfume... Show more content on

By being able to deconstruct these image based ads it has changed my reaction when I see them
now, now I m more wary of how I see them because I see the model or models as a tool to get
across a message. An example of this is when we had to deconstruct the Vogue ad what this did was
show the female model was submissive, an item to the male model and that the male is in control
of the female model as he clinches her and is in control of a yonic symbol the ball showing his
dominance. It has made me see things that are usually innocent like a beautiful model and a
renowned NBA star into seeing how he owns her and she is completely oblivious to the fact that
she is being controlled by a man and is okay with it. Another thing that this course has impacted
on future ads that I ll see is the colours in these ads. Now when I see all of these colours in these
ads I would be wondering what the ad really meant as the colours give all of the symbols more
meaning. So this has showed me how much the simplest thing like colours can have the biggest
effect on the ad to make it have a completely different meaning then what we original saw it for.
The last point is how I would caution other people about how they get manipulated by what the ad
is communicating to us. I would say that these ads are now

Was The Mexican War An Exercise Of American Imperialism
Professor Walter Nugent, of California and New Mexico, 1846 1848: Southward Aggression II,
argues that the Mexican War was indeed an exercise of American imperialism. Throughout his
presidency, James K. Polk made a promise to the American people to honor Manifest Destiny,
expanding the territory of the United Statesto the Pacific Ocean. Polk was blinded by his tunnel
vision, and was more than willing to pay the cost of thousands of Mexican lives (over twice as
many as Americans) in pursuit of his goal. The Mexican government was weak, so, Polk took
advantage by sending representatives to monitor, what he considered, the borders between their
nations. Polk was aware that this would manipulate the Mexican government to strike, spilling
American blood on American soil . This action resulted in support from Congress to declare war;
although, many voted in favor out of fear of being considered unpatriotic. Alternatively, many
voted in favor of war in order to expand the amount of representatives opposed to slavery. Polk
was not considered a strong nor wise ruler, Isaiah Berlin contends that Polk was a hedgehog, not
a fox, he explains, Jefferson, FDR, and Bill Clinton were foxes. Jackson, Polk, and George W.
Bush were hedgehogs. Whereas a fox has many ideas... hedgehogs, like Polk, have one. For those
reasons, the Mexican war was an unjust war, and a result of American imperialism. Walter Nugent
explains that the Mexican War involved such a large expansion, therefore the

Highlighting the Microbial Complexity of Foodborne Hazards...
The Microbial Ecology in Food Safety Risk Assessment written by Tom Ross, sets out to highlight
the microbial complexity of foodborne hazards and its subsequent impact on food safety and
possible outbreaks of foodborne illness. According to the author, In a system as complex as the
production and consumption of food, a variety of factors affect both the likelihood and severity of
the occurrence of foodborne disease, often for which little information is currently available..
The author proposes that current risk assessments for foodborne infection, which usually depend
heavily upon numbers of microorganisms present on the food at the time of consumption, present
challenges to industry professionals. As he postulates, the data are ... Show more content on

These depend on both physiochemical conditions of the food, and the condition of storage. He
highlights the main effecting factors to be considered are Aw, pH, temperature and time of storage
and processing, with time being the most important.
The author strongly argues that the ability of pathogenic bacteria to grow or die under certain
environmental conditions is of great importance in risk assessment. It essentially allows us to see
which hazards might occur; what is the likelihood; what is the severity, in biological terms if it
does occur. To predict impact and te exposure dose, microbial growth under a variety of conditions
and stressors much be evaluated. He believes modeling the behavior of microorganisms in the
growth/no growth region is now seen as an important component of predictive microbiology. As he
comes back to throughout the chapter, bacterial pathogens are exposed to a host of stresses during
their lifetime, in particular during food processing. Predictive microbial modeling, he argues,
enables estimates to be made of microbial growth under varying time, temperature and intrinsic
conditions or stressors. He talks again about the importance of predictive modeling as a way to
quantify the combined effect of various hurdles on the probability of growth and define
combinations at which growth ceases. The combination of factors applied in the form of what he

Essay about Comparing The Sandman and Frankenstein
In The Sandman, the weirdness of the tale could be perceived in two directions the first being that
of intellectual uncertainty and the other is that of psychoanalytical experience and namely the ideas
of Freud. In order to describe the uncanny experience in Hoffmann s The Sandman and Shelley s
Frankenstein it is indispensable, however, to explain and define beforehand what is the connotation
of Unheimlich. In my further analysis of the uncanny, I relate the two worksand stress on the
obsession of the two characters which explains the weirdness in them. Moreover, I focus on the
surrounding environment in the face of the society because it is pertinent to the discussion of the
weirdness. The unconsciousness is also playing a major role in... Show more content on

Thus, the uncanny is entangled in the ambivalence of the tale. Moreover, we could clearly notice
that Hoffmann is purposely creating such uncanny effects as to leave the reader in uncertainty. For
instance, when Hoffmann enters the personage of Olympia, he does not mention whether she is a
human being or a doll and in such a way the reader is not immediately acquainted with the truth and
his attention is thus not directly focused on this uncertainty. It is noteworthy that this way of
constructing the tale creates quite an unparalleled emotional effect.
Freud, however, argues that at the end of the tale we come to know the truth, that is Coppola is,
in fact, Coppelius and therefore the Sandman. He argues that the theme of Olympia and the
succession of the events in the story could not be the only underlying factors in evoking this
extraordinary atmosphere of weirdness. For Freud, the reason could be discerned in Nathaniel s
fear of losing his eyes * an obsessive fear haunting him from his very childhood. This anxiety
about his eyes is according to Freud enough a substitute for the dread of being castrated. Freud
proves his thesis by replacing the Sandman by the dreaded father at whose hands castration is
expected. According to him, this image of the father has an intimate connection to Nathaniel s
anxiety about his eyes. It separates Nathaniel from Clara and from his best friend her brother; it
destroys Olympia the

Pneumonia Pathophysiology
Pathophysiology Paper
Pneumonia
Pneumonia is an inflammation of the lung which results into an excess of fluid or pus accumulating
into the alveoli of the lung. Pneumonia impairs gas exchange which leads to hypoxemia and is
acquire by inhaling a contagious organism or an irritating agent. (Ignatavicius Workman, 2013).
Fungal, bacteria and viruses are the most common organisms that can be inhale. Pneumonia could
be community acquired or health care associated. Community acquired pneumonia (CAP) occurs
out of a healthcare facility while health care associated pneumonia (HAP) is acquired in a
healthcare facility. HAP are more resistant to antibiotic and patients on ventilators and those
receiving kidney dialysis have a higher risk factor. Infants, children and the elderly also have a
higher risk of acquiring pneumonia due to their immune system inability to fight the virus.
Pneumonia can also be classified as aspiration pneumonia if it arises by inhaling saliva, vomit,
food or drink into the lungs. Patients with abnormal gag reflex, dysphagia, brain injury, and are
abusing drug or alcohol have a higher risk of aspiration pneumonia (Mayo Clinic, 2013). In the case

Be Careful Going Home, The Roads Are Slippy Essay
Be careful going home. The roads are slippy. That phrase makes me cringe. Western
Pennsylvanians are known for their interesting colloquialisms and I can t stand most of them.
Colloquialisms are words or phrases that aren t formal or even literary and are spoken in common
conversation, according to Oxford Dictionaries. The correct wordis slippery and not this strange
word pronounced slippy. Other ones like yinz, dippy egg, pop, gob, red up, hoagie, and buggy are
common words around here and I believe it makes the people saying them sound like hicks. I ve
grown up in this area, surrounded by these words, yet I feel each one is worse than the next. This
wasn t always the case though. When I was younger, my family said a few of the colloquialisms
from this area since they ve lived here their whole lives. My mother was from Latrobe and my
father was from Johnstown. We lived in a small, extremely rural area between Johnstown and
Altoona where you could always smell natural fertilizer and you lived a fair distance from your
neighbors. So, by the time I entered school, I had heard a few of them like gob, dippy egg, and
sweeper. School was where I learned more phrases and started using them. I would say buggy
instead of shopping cart, crick instead of creek, and even slippy that I now loathe. During my
freshman year of high school, the drama club went on a trip to New York City and everyone there
could tell exactly where we were from. This made me rethink what I was saying and

Henry Fleming In Red Badge Of Courage Essay
Henry Fleming in Red Badge of Courage
The Civil War forced many young boys out of childhood and into adulthood. Most of these young
boys were not prepared for war, and Henry Fleming was one of these boys.
Henry Fleming s life in New York was routine. He had his normal share of friends and lived on a
farm. When Henry got up in the mornings, he always knew exactly what the day had in store for
him. This simple and boring life drove
Henry to enlist.
Henry wanted some excitement and to be seen by everyone as a hero. He wanted to be a man.
However, his mother was strictly against his joining the Union Army.
She thought that the Army was for rough and uncivilized heathens.
His mother s greatest fear was that these heathens ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After hearing the tales of battle, Henry began to be intimidated by fear. Would he run when faced
with death or would he have the courage to fight? This question was always on
Henry s mind. Finally, after many months of monotonous camp life, the question was answered.
After hours of marching one day, Henry s regiment met with a
Rebel battalion. When gunfire erupted, Henry sprung up and ran. He ran with
the zeal of an insane sprinter. Now Henry had the answer to his question, he was a coward. After
his flight from battle, Henry met a group of soldiers who were wounded. He felt guilty because
he was unmarked. He wanted to be wounded like them so he could have his own Red Badge of
Courage.
Henry did get his badge of courage on his return to his detachment. Ironically, it was from the butt
of a fellow soldier s rifle. Now he was determined to prove himself and show that he would not run
again. War used to be something
Henry could not imagine fighting in, but now it was his obsession. When the time came he did
more than just stand up to his fear, he led the charge against the Rebels and was noticed for his
heroic actions by the commander. After the battle he felt as if he had crossed a bridge from being
an inexperienced, frightened young boy to a strong and heroic soldier.
The war was the catalyst that propelled Henry into manhood. Henry leaped into manhood by having
to face every man s greatest fear, death, instead of maturing

The Enron and Worldcom Scandals
The Enron and WorldCom scandals
Enron
#1. The segment that put Enron in difficulties was the LJM1. That SPE was the worst of all four

Crime Data Measuring Crime Essay
Crime throughout the United States is measured through statistics. Whether they are small crimes,
blue color crimes, drugs, and even murder, these statistics help the criminal justice system to
develop new laws that need to be put in place and to see how current programs are working. There
are two statistical reports used to measure crimein the United States; they are the (UCR) Uniform
Crime Report and the (NCVS) National Crime Victimization Survey. There is a third and it is self
reported crimes by individuals. These systems being used are a great foundation for tracking trends
in crimes but they are only as accurate as the people/systems that give to them. Although these are
here to report criminal information to several agencies, they do not reflect all the numbers because
there are a lot of crimes that go unreported.

Certain crimes through the United States are not reported because some individuals do not feel
comfortable reporting them and or some criminals do not always get caught. When criminals are
caught, they do not always go to trial because either there is not sufficient evidence or witnesses
do not come forward. Recidivism statistics today should be looked at more closely, especially
prior to these criminals being released. The problem could be that the programs that are
implemented in the system to reform the criminals prior to release are not working or the
criminals are beating the system by lying. Either way, these two statistics go hand in hand because
the crimes are either being committed by new criminals or repeat offenders and some of these
crimes are not being reported. The reporting systems and law enforcement agencies should go back
and review these numbers and find a better way to track these criminals, criminal activities,
arresting procedures, and prison

Ribot s Nine Intelligences
According to Ribot (2007) the nine intelligences are as follows:
Verbal Linguistic intelligence speaks to an individual s ability to understand and manipulate words
and language. This intelligence is possessed by everyone at the same level and includes reading,
writing, speaking and other forms of verbal and written communication. Logical Mathematical
intelligence refers to an individual s ability to do things with data: collect, and organize, analyze and
interpret, conclude and predict. Individuals strong in this intelligence see patterns and relationships.

Teenagers and Short Text Messaging
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Text messaging is the most widely used data appliance in the world,
with 2.4 billion users, or 74% of all mobile phone subscribers (Tedeschi, 2008). Market analysis
reveals that consumers purchase phone applications readily because it is effortless to download
an application onto their mobile phone and also since cash out of pocket is not required, it simply
gets added to their phone bill. Teenagers represent the largest spectrum of these consumers, who
are eager to show off the stunning features of their new phone to their peers. Parents typically pay
the cost of their cell phone plans and typically are unaware of small charges made on the account.
Most phone application downloads range from free demos to $9.99 pricing. As this venture is
maintained via the internet and cell phone, little to no overhead is required. Most of the costs of
goods sold are represented in the marketing of the product. With grant backing from the National
Science Foundation, Venture Capital investors and built in licensing fees paid direct;
TravellingWave can expect a high profit margin with no initial investment required. This analysis
will show how the VoicePredict product will be successful in market penetration. COMPANY

The Attack on Constantinople by the Crusaders
The Attack of Constantinople by Crusaders In his account of the Crusaders siege of Constantinople,
the Byzantine historian Nicetas Choniates, provides some compelling reports concerning the
behaviors of the Christian knights and peasants who formed the Crusader army that sought to wrest
control of the city from its defenders. In his account, Choniates makes the point that the Crusaders
little resembled the good hearted Christians they purported to be, but were more like a barbarian
horde in the brutality of their actions when reaching the city, which was a major center of the
Christian faith at the time. Moreover, the Crusaders had even sacked another Christian city, Zara,
on their way to Constantinople. It was clear, then, that these Crusaders were less interested in
wresting the Holy Land from the Moslems than they were in taking advantage of this opportunity to
unjustly enrich themselves at the expense of anyone who happened to get in their way.
Unfortunately, Choniates also emphasizes in his account that these actions were not those of just a
few overzealous Crusaders, but were rather characteristic of the actions of all of them. For instance,
Choniates reports that, Nor, indeed, were these crimes committed and others left undone, on the
ground that these were of lesser guilt, the others of greater. But with one consent all the most
heinous sins and crimes were committed by all with equal zeal. Moreover, the list of the types of
sins and crimes that Choniates

Hiroshima John Hersey Essay
Hiroshima, was written by Pulitzer Prize winner and author John Hersey in 1946. John Hersey
was an American journalist and novelist who was well known for his documentary works about
the calamitous events of WWII. In his book, Hiroshima, the stories of six victims of the attack
are shared following the drop of the American atomic bomb on August 6, 1945. His historical
masterpiece is one of the most important works of the twentieth century. At the time the book was
published, Americans had little insight on the details of the attack on the Japanese city. By
writing this book, Hersey was able to open the eyes of many Americans to the severity of effects
of the attack experienced by civilians. John Hersey writes the book a way in which he is... Show

As mentioned earlier, his retelling of their stories shows us their utter confusion and terror, which
helps to bring them to life for the audience. Therefore, as the characters experienced the bombing
and its later effects, they shared what only they could know and did not have all the information
about the attack. Because their personal accounts are overwhelming and in the mists of chaos,
Hersey adds in additional factual details to supplement the characters confusion of events and help
the reader see the devastation beyond the characters viewpoint. More specifically, Hersey includes
information about the abnormal water droplets after the bombing. On page 18 of Chapter 2 The
Fire, Hersey illustrates that Mr. Tanimoto recalled when huge drops of water the size of marbles
began to fall, he half thought that they must be coming from the hoses of firemen fighting the
blaze. Hersey then explains that what Mr. Tanimoto thought was coming from the firemen s hoses,
were in fact drops of condensed moisture failing from the turbulent tower of dust, heat, and fission
fragments that had already risen miles into the sky above Hiroshima, (18). John Hersey includes
these added factual details to clarify the experiences of the characters allowing for a deeper
understanding of the readers and adding to the expression of confusion from the

The Religious Landscape of Australia
The present religious landscape in Australia is one that has changed significantly from 1945 up
until now. Christianity is still currently the most popular religious tradition in Australia, however
has seen a steady decrease in numbers due peoples interests in other religions and a non religious
focused society. Due to immigration Australia has seen significant increases in followers of
Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism. Because of Australia s consumeristic society,
denominational switching has become more common, especially in the Protestant denomination.
New Age religions have become increasingly popular recently due to peoples search for individual
fulfilment, in the form of happiness, health and meaning in life. Secularism in Australia is now a
belief that forefronts society due to scientific discovery and individualism.
Christianity is still currently the most popular religious tradition in Australia, however has seen a

themselves Christians. Moving forward to 2013 Christianity is still the most dominant religion in

Big Band Experience
As a student who makes it their goal to involve himself in every musical activity, I have had the
privilege to play music in large groups like a marching band, big band, and orchestra, in addition
to small groups like a jam band and a traditional gypsy jazz band. I ve participated in competitions

Navy Memorial. With that being considered the group that had the most profound effect on me is a

standards at smaller high class events. My four years in this group contain some of my most
significant experiences of my high schoolcareer. These experiences were what changed a nervous

Only looking at the combo as a music performance group would do a disservice to fully

Dr. David Mckay, Chief Scientist for Planetary Science and Exploration at the Johnson Space

aspects. The rocks contain a composition unlike the composition of rocks from Earth. Randy L.
Korotev of the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences of Washington University in St.
Louis gives, Lunar samples show evidence of formation in an extremely dry environment with
essentially no free oxygen and little gravity... Lunar rocks and soil contain gases (hydrogen,
helium, nitrogen, neon, argon, krypton, and xenon) derived from the solar wind with isotope
ratios different than Earth forms of the same gases. The ability to imitate, or reconstruct, a fake

for any scientist to recreate, even for the government. Moreover, the lunar rocks have been

will say the lunar rock has a more consistent composure of iron oxide (FeO) to manganese oxide
(MnO). Rocks from earth may appear similar, but the composition of Earth rock is far more
inconsistent than any lunar rock. Korotev himself says best, It was easier and cheaper to go to the

3. Coat both sides of each eggplant slice with olive oil, and place them on a parchment covered
baking sheet. Sprinkle with salt to taste

out and flip the slices before placing the eggplant back in the oven to cook for another 10 minutes.
5. Turn over the eggplant one last time and roast for another 3 to 5 minutes. The slices should be

6. Cut open your ciabatta bread and toast it on a baking sheet in the oven. Once the bread is nice
and crispy, take it out and spread your chosen pesto sauce on one side. On top of that add a piece

Why Are Stereotypes Dangerous and What Can Be Done to...
Why Are Stereotypes Dangerous and What Can Be Done to Reduce Them? Very often, in our
everyday life, we tend to make certain generalizations about things and people around us. This is
because we are constantly exposed to heaps of information, and in order to cope with the
complexity of the world around us, we need to generalize and categorize.[1] Sometimes we do
this on purpose, with some intention. However, very often we do this subconsciously, unaware of
what we are doing. Many people generalize on others according to their clothes, profession, origin,
way of speaking, and many other, outer markers. This sort of thinking could be very dangerous,
and it can lead us to creating stereotypes. Stereotype is a term... Show more content on

To prove this to be true, some of my colleagues and me had some people from our environment
interviewed on this topic. It is interesting that most of them had similar answers, and almost
everyone said the English were reserved, snobbish, and even evil. Americans were fat and
stupid, self centered. Although none of them would admit to be stereotyping, they all somehow
knew this was true. Many of them, when asked if they would ever live in these countries
responded negativelly, because the people were bad. Thus they had some prejudices formed
against these people, and did not want to do anything to help them understand and appreciate the
other culture. Discrimination When the stereotypes we have formed last for too long in our
minds, they can grow and develop into something more serious than prejudice. This is when we
start acting and treating other people in a different, often bad and inhumane way.[7] This is
another possible danger of using stereotypes, which is called discrimination. There are many
different types of discrimination, based on appearance, age, nationality, sex, etc. One of the most
common forms of discrimination is based on a well known stereotype found in many movies,
magazines, and even in cartoons. It is the stereotype of a dumb blonde. [8] It is an image of a girl
who is physically attractive, but lacks brains. This stereotype is so powerful, that very often all

Comparing Regan And Goneril In Shakespeare s King Lear
The two eldest daughters of King Lear, are portrayed as villains from the beginning of the novel.

the play in the most flattering of love to their father for part of the kingdom, to the last act in the

Goneril, the eldest of King Lears three daughters, is a ruthless, amoral, and jealous woman. She

In the article How Junk Food Ends Obesity, David H. Freedman, an author and writer, discusses

system to eat better, business will expand. Not only will business expand, but more people will

It s the public infrastructure that includes aspects like roads, water, mains, sewers, bridges that
allows people to live out their daily lives and improves Canada s efficiency. The possibility of
having a successful business in Canadian depends on innovative and efficient infrastructure. Ottawa
would be a main example of lack of instruction in a 1st world city consists of one train system; the
O Train (that s just being made) and bus routes that are satisfactory. Ottawa has begun its
renovations for the new transitways but it will possibly take years to complete the final product.
The O train scheduled to finish in 2018, however the city needs a strategy that connects the main
locations using the transitway otherwise the likely hood of it being done on time will be low. Even
though the nation s capital lacks the public infrastructure, there are many other cities in Canada that
has better designed infrastructure for business such as Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver. The
future for Ottawa is heading in the direction of attracting international business given the transitway
continues to expand and improve in its services. Highways in Canada is a large transportation in

The Great Depression Caused The Depression
The Great Depression began during October 1929 and ended during 1939. President Herbert
Hover was the president of The Great Depression the causes of the depression has many different
factors that played into it. When Wall Street crashed during 1929, approximately 10 to 15 billion
dollars were lost because the prices of the stock marketwhich started to decrease rapidly in just 24
hours. Many of the causes of The Great Depressionwere that there were a lot of overproduction of
consumer goods which resulted in the decrease in demand, another reason was that there were
many bankruptcies and high level of debt, and finally in 1932 the Dustbowl which hurt farmers
crops destroying land and causing people to either become employed and or even homeless.
During the Roaring Twenties, the Middle Class Americans live life really happy and had a lot
of luxury goods. Industries have also had an economic boom during the 1920s. Many people in
the middle class had lots of things to do that were exciting, new ideas were starting to develop
and people felt invincible and overconfident believing that the age that they are living right now
won t ever go away or ever end. The main reason why people called it the Roaring Twenties was
that there was a rise in consumerism and lots of people were encouraged through media to buy new
products and spend more on things that advertisement persuade them to buy. Advertisements

How Did Scarlet Fever Occur In The 18th Century
In the late 18th century a new disease appeared called Scarlet Fever. Scarlet fever is an infection
caused by streptococcus. This caused a sore throat, fever, and a very red rough rash that started in
the torso area and would soon spread over the entire body. Scarlet fever mainly targeted children
from the age of four to the age of eight. But anyone can get Scarlet fever. It would almost look like
the person infected had been badly sunburnt. The tongue and lymph nodes would also become very
swollen after the person had caught Scarlet fever.
Scarlet fever was deadly until the mid 19th century when antibiotics were made to treat this disease.
These antibiotics have reduced the deaths to very little. With the antibiotics recovery takes from
around seven to ten days at most. While recovery you should be resting almost the entire day while
drinking plenty of liquids. Also the patient should not come in contact with anyone until after 48
hours of taking the medicine because it will still be contagious. A couple days after you start the
antibiotics your body temperature will return to normal and ... Show more content on

this point if you haven t got skin treatment you will probably have lasting effects with your skin.
But if you get treatment the rash will start to disappear and in most cases it will peel off of your
hands a feet then after the peeling has healed you shouldn t get it ever again. They say that once
you have Scarlet fever and you get over it you shouldn t ever get it again. They say kinda like the
chicken pox. Scholars also say that if you get it bad tho you really never get over it because it has

Reflection About Reading And Writing
It was my second grade year, I was only 7 years old, when I first found my hatred of anything
that had to do with reading or writing. Every week my teacher would give us a lengthy list of
vocabulary words that we had to memorize before our spelling test the following week. I would
study for periods at a time trying to memorize this gruesome lists of words, that I could never
commemorate. When it came down to the day of the test I would see all my classmates at ease,
while I would panic trying to remember what I studied. When it finally became time to take the
test, I heard the teacher call the word island , but I couldn t concentrate. I was frustrated, I
couldn t think, the teacher would ask is everyone ready to move on , but I wouldn t say
anything, because I was too shy. After a couple of days I would get my score back, and wasn t
surprised when I found out that I had failed the test. Weekley this was recurring theme when I
got my spelling test returned. Eventually, I accepted the fact that reading and writing was not for
me. Although my second grade experience was terrible, my third grade year gave me an
experience that I never had with literacy. My teacher Mrs. Quinn, would give us a list of
vocabulary words, but instead of us memorizing them, we would have to create a story using
these words. This opened my eyes to a component of literacy that I never explored. I had total
creative freedom, something that I wasn t familiar with. The first set of words, was over

Bradley Lewis
Jianyi Lu (Ken)
Bradley Lewis s Moving Beyond Prozac, DSM, and the New Psychiatry: the Birth of Post
psychiatry, tried introducing contemporary humanistic theory based on post psychiatry in chapter
two. Bradley tried to explain that the concept of post psychiatry could be supported by discussions
through three philosophical approaches: referential, relational and pragmatic. Bradley described
that new psychiatry pandered to Gross and Levitt s science war and went with the referential theory.
The reference theory approach emphasizes the objective fact itself and does not depend on people s
interpretations. Therefore, in the new psychiatry, diagnosis of a person will be based on whether
the person satisfies a criterion of a certain disease or not. Bradley pointed out that the risk of taking
the referential theory approach in psychiatry might strongly lead to the imposition of doctrine such
that there was a truth in the world. Bradley also introduced the relational theory s flexibility, which
was from the connection not with a fact in the real world but concepts in human s different
interpretations or communities. The relational theory, in psychiatry, led the idea that there was no
one truth and allows to have multiple interpretation as truths. The relational theory took account of
humanities and would not label a person ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though referential theory can provide a clear criterion for putting people in a certain group, it
could label a person with a dogmatic stigma so called mental illness in the psychiatry. Since the
referential theory based categorization would not take account of the person s belief, policy,
emotion, or communities, the labeling categorization could ignore the humanity of the person.
Regardless, the person might have different perspectives on his/her life or world; the categorization
would not reflect the person s

How Is Philip Johnson Post Modernism
The contradictory life and changing allegiances of Philip Johnson
This essay will critically discuss the development of Post Modernism as a reaction to Modernism
and the growth of the architectural style as an individual movement.
The objective of this essay will be to indicate an understanding of the formal characteristics of the
architecture and design of Post Modernism as well as the affect that the architect, Philip Johnson
had on this movement. It will also indicate an understanding of how Post Modernism was
influenced and shaped by the political, economic and social beliefs of the time. Post Modernism
architecture originated as an international style in America around the 1960 s to 1970 s and quickly
spread throughout the rest of the world. The goal of the Post Modernism movement was that it was

In architecture and interior design, Post modernism can be defined as the re emergence of surface
ornamentation that relied heavily on historical decorative forms and made use of curvilinear lines
and angles throughout the design. Post modernism was concerned with the ornamentation,
symbolism, technology and the combination of present and past architectural style to create a brand
new style in its entirety (Jarzombek, 1999: 489).
Philip Johnson, has played an irreplaceable role in the development of Modernism and Post
Modernism architecture during the past century. Modernism was innovated and pioneered by
architects such as Le Corbusier, Frank Lloyd Wright, Mies van der Rohe and Walter Gropius, and
Philip Johnson was its director of public relations. He can be seen as the person responsible for
bringing the Modernism fascination to America and played a key role in the contextual acceptance
of it by its mainstream culture (Blake, 1996:

How Are Women Portrayed in Robert Browning’s
†Porphyria...
During the nineteenth century people were under a strict patriarchal rule, especially the women.
In those times, women were seen as ornaments a momentary toy of passion to the society and
properties to be traded within marriage, therefore, Victorian moralists repressed female
sexuality. As a result, for a woman to admit she even had sexual desires was considered sinful,
let alone acting on those desires like Porphyria did was borderline criminal. Moreover, when
Porphyria glided in she untied her hat and let her damp hair fall . Victorian moralists referred to
female fornicators as fallen women. Additionally, committing adultery was also a sin as it went
against one of the Ten Commandments Thou shall not commit adultery , therefore, Porphyria
letting her hair fall could symbolise the boundaries she had willingly chosen to overstep by
coming to meet her lover. The title Porphyria s Lover may indicate to the reader the idea that the
lover would be the only active article in the poem, especially if it was written by a male during
those times. However, at the beginning of the poem Porphyria is immediately given the active
role, she s the one who glided in wanting to visit him for love of her.../ through wind and rain , she
also shut the out cold and storm . This gives Porphyria a masculine physical ability as she has the
power to shut...out something as sinewy as a storm, which goes against the female stereotype. The
storm can been seen as the lover s burning

Serbia In Ww1
Otto von Bismarck, the chancellor of Germany, envisioned that One day the great European War
will come out of some damned foolish thing in the Balkans. He would later be proven right when
the powder keg in the Balkans finally blew up and affected all of Europe. The Slavic people in the
Balkans wanted their own unified nation. They tried to fight Austria Hungary to create a Pan Slavic
nation, but the Slavs were only given Serbiaand a few other Balkan territories. Bosnia and
Herzegovina, however, were annexed by Austria Hungary. This takeover by Austria Hungary
ultimately led to a nineteen year old Bosnian Serb firing two gunshots that would end the lives of
the Habsburg successor along with his wife, and change European history forever. Serbia s role in
World War Iincluded forming a deep rooted rivalry with Austria Hungary, assassinating Archduke

Serbia became a scapegoat for Austria Hungary in the years leading up to World War I. A

Peninsula alongside the occupied Austro Hungarian territories, including Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Serbia wanted to unite these territories and create a united Slavic nation called Yugoslavia (Land
of the South Slavs). These feelings in the Balkans were the beginning of Serbian nationalism and
Pan Slavism. Serbian nationalism was the desire to build a united Serbian kingdom separate from
Austria Hungary, and bound by a common language and customs. Pan Slavism was the idea that
the Slavic people should be unified and help one another if their bond was interrupted. Through

De Niro s Game
De Niro s Game by Rawi Hage is a coming of age story about a boy named Bassam from war torn
Lebanon. The main settings are the headings of the three parts of the novel; Roma, Beirut and
Paris. The settings help to illustrate character development, the novel s themes and are important
symbols throughout.
The first section of the novel is entitled Roma, but the events all occur in Beirut. Bassam never
goes to Roma, however it is always present in the novel and an important symbol throughout. Roma
is a place that Bassam has wanted to go his entire life. Roma symbolizes Bassam s hope for a

learn about the horrific things going on in the war but he also witnesses his best friend George

against humanity. Because of the war Bassam is betrayed by his best friend, tortured by the militia
for a crime he did not commit and is forced to realize that the militia and war are not good, but
rather morally wrong and pointless.
Part III, of the novel is called Paris. Bassam escapes from Beirut and goes to Paris searching for
George s father. After Bassam finds Georges family, they soon betray him. Paris is a symbol of
Bassam s complete and utter hopelessness. In Paris Bassam thinks I had no plans, and realized
that I could not think of any. Other than Rhea, no one in Paris knew me, no one was expecting
me for dinner, nor to walk in a funeral procession, nor to work, eat, carry the wounded, speed

Hurricane Sandy And Its Effects On The Climate Change
Hurricanes in movies, such as The Day After Tomorrow, are city destroying monsters that make
nightmares come true. While this may be an extreme exaggeration of superstorms, New York has
suffered from the destructive force of said superstorms. Three years ago, Hurricane Sandy swept
into New York leaving only devastation in its wake. Sandy, while not nearly as devastating as some
hurricanes, was the biggest seen since hurricane Katrinahit in 2005. Whilst Sandy is still called a
hurricane, it is actually an extra tropical storm, which unlike hurricanes are caused by temperature
contrasts in the atmosphere. These temperature contrasts are being made more extreme from the
climate change and has been effecting our raising sea level. The destruction caused by Sandy
has made New York come up with better ways of handling natural disasters. Climate change has
begun to have an affect on our super storms and because of that, new solutions need to be made
in order to prevent devastation s from extra tropical storms like Hurricane Sandy. For many years
now, scientists have believed that our climate is changing. This climate change has caused water
currents up north, near Antarctica to shift leading to warm waters taking the place of the usual
cold arctic waters. Warm water melts the glaciers and causes the top of the glaciers to float off
into the sea, allowing the warm water to melt even more glaciers. The extra glacier melting into
our sea has caused the sea levels to raise and the

The Aids Epidemic Of Haiti Essay
When a fatal disease becomes known to a society but lacks explanation our instinct as humans is
to jump to conclusions, whether they are logical or not. We bargain with our faith, we search for
any evidence to support our conjectures, we deny the truth of the disease, and we place blame on
each other. All of these desperate acts of justification are driven by fear fear of the unknown. The
combination of fear and ignorance that pushes people to make conclusions is readily notable in the
AIDSepidemic of Haiti. Haitians reacted to AIDS in a similar manner as other cultures, but there
are also differences that are specific to their community. Like many cultures, Haitians reasoned the
occurrence of AIDS with explanations beyond the scope of medicine, with diseases that were
known to them, or were instead in complete denial. The uniqueness of the occurrence of AIDS in
Haiti was that there was no direct cause that could be addressed. Thus, while under significant
scrutiny as the origin of AIDS, Haitians reacted to the epidemic by blaming the existence of AIDS
on poor socioeconomic status, on sorcery, and on other people or countries.
As part of their reaction to AIDS, Haitians had a propensity to attribute the existence of AIDS to
poor populations. AIDS is indeed more prevalent among the lower socioeconomic class in Haiti,
but the perception as to why this pattern occurred went beyond the simple interpretation that AIDS
was a disease of the poor. In The Exotic and The

Structural classifications are based on the type of connective tissue binding the structures together and whether a joint capsule is present(2, 3). There are three structural classifications of joints; fibrous, cartilaginous and synovial. Functional classifications are based on the amount of movement present(2). There are three functional classifications of joints; synarthroses which are immobile, amphiarthroses which are slightly mobile, and diarthroses which are freely mobile(3). Fibrous joints are classified as having articulating bones joined by dense regular connective tissue (mainly consisting of collagen) and no joint cavity(3). Majority of fibrous joints are synarthroses or amphiarthroses. The three types of fibrous joints are sutures, gomphoses, and syndesmoses. Sutures are synarthroses joints present on the skull(2). The sutural ligament which is composed of connective tissue fibers and is continuous with the periosteum joins the two skull bones(1,2). Once again the British secret service has to save the world from certain chaos and destruction and only one man is good enough for the job, that man is Bond…James Bond . We all know the format, but we love it. The title is The World is Not Enough, and is the final Bond film of the twentieth century, finishing the millennium with the usual mix of guns, girls and gadgets. The film fits into the usual Bond criteria. It has explosions, guns, gadgets, girls (foreign girls of course), chases and cars. There are many close escapes; the best being when Bond escapes from the nuclear facility in Azabaizan. He is propelled out of the secret tunnels followed by a huge fireball. The stunts and special effects are staggering. How did they get Bond to fall from an exploding balloon on to the Dome and bounce down as if was a perfectly normal activity? How did they blow up an entire mountain? At the climatic ending Bond escapes from the villains lair with a girl, whilst blowing the whole place up! The stunt people and special effects people must have seemingly magical powers. No other film character or secret agent can outclass Bond! Director Michael Apted has created a film that proceeds at a good pace with a strong, straightforward story line, and yet also includes interesting and sometimes stunning locations. It is his first action/adventure film, previously making his name as director of Gorillas in the Mist a true life, documentary style film. He directs the scenes well and controls them with skill, in turn bringing out the best in Pierce Brosnan, the cool shaken, not stirred Bond and the evil Renard, (Robbie Carlyle). Throughout the film, we are reminded that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Letter From Birmingham Jail In Letter from Birmingham Jail, Martin Luther King, Jr. refutes the condemnatory claims made by eight white Alabama clergymen. By appealing to ethos, logos, and pathos King argues that he is not an outsider and that the experience of African Americans in segregated Birmingham warrants well intentioned demonstration and civil disobedience. In doing so, he calls attention to the clergymen s hypocrisy and firmly garners their respect and understanding. Martin Luther King gains the clergymen s trust and belief by establishing his moral character through ethos. King first accomplishes this by employing a tone of respect. He addresses the clergymen in the beginning paragraph as men of genuine good will whose criticisms are sincerely set forth (6 7). This makes the clergymen feel that their integrity and their concerns are heavily valued. When King later denounces their beliefs and actions, they are more likely to accept it as King s effort to achieve understanding between the two groups rather than an attack on their personal characteristics. A reverent tone is further built with King s choice to refer to the clergymen as sirs (121), my Christian and Jewish brothers (175), and other honorifics throughout the letter. Even as his frustration escalates, using these titles compel the white clergymen to continue reading the arguments, believing the writer because the writer believes in their morality. His effort is to explain how each of the different Latino groups came. What was happening in their home towns that caused them to leave. If people want to accept it, eventually they will have to. That this country is bound to go through an enormous Latino population explosion. Gonzalez writes Mexican Americans meanwhile, face a frustrating identity problem like that of Puerto Ricans (pg97). There is common history between Latin Americans and Anglo Americans, like the Arabs and Jews of the Middle East, cousins in constant conflict, often hearing but not understanding each other. In this chapter Gonzalez tells us about how both Latin American and Anglo American cultures fabricated their colonial origin. The 1500 s through the early 1800s specially explains the foundation of what now makes up the US. Since early on in time Anglo colonist saw Mexicans as an obstacle to evolution. • 12. Blood Vengeance In Beowulf Vengeance in Beowulf While both blood feuds and wergild deal with murder, a blood feud requires a death for a death, while wergild uses gold to make amends. When looking at this in a biblical perspective, it is important to understand how these relate to justice. Biblical justice is a far cry from revenge. Vengeance, however, takes the shape of both blood feuds and wergild, and while blood feuds are fueled by revenge, wergild is important to bring justice in Beowulf s society. Vengeance in Beowulf takes two main forms: the blood feuds, such as that of Grendel s mother, and the concept of wergild; only wergild, however, conforms to the biblical definition of justice. Blood feuds play an important role in Beowulf, if only to contrast with the idea of wergild. A blood feudtook place when someone killed someone else, and the victim s family had the right and responsibility to kill the murderer. However, this is not justice; it is revenge, often causing a deep and uncontrollable split in a society. In Beowulf, this is only referred to once, when Grendel is killed, and Grendel s mother comes, desperate for revenge, intent on avenging Grendel s death ( Beowulf, 69). While Grendel s mother could be seen as restoring justice, this blood feud only brought more death and revenge. There were few rules or regulations, and revenge was often personal. Indeed, the old testament blood feuds were more closely aligned with wergild, in that weregild was not wild justice or a step outside ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It has made me see things that are usually innocent like a beautiful model and a renowned NBA star into seeing how he owns her and she is completely oblivious to the fact that she is being controlled by a man and is okay with it. Another thing that this course has impacted on future ads that I ll see is the colours in these ads. Now when I see all of these colours in these ads I would be wondering what the ad really meant as the colours give all of the symbols more meaning. So this has showed me how much the simplest thing like colours can have the biggest effect on the ad to make it have a completely different meaning then what we original saw it for. • 15. Was The Mexican War An Exercise Of American Imperialism Professor Walter Nugent, of California and New Mexico, 1846 1848: Southward Aggression II, argues that the Mexican War was indeed an exercise of American imperialism. Throughout his presidency, James K. Polk made a promise to the American people to honor Manifest Destiny, expanding the territory of the United Statesto the Pacific Ocean. Polk was blinded by his tunnel vision, and was more than willing to pay the cost of thousands of Mexican lives (over twice as many as Americans) in pursuit of his goal. The Mexican government was weak, so, Polk took advantage by sending representatives to monitor, what he considered, the borders between their nations. Polk was aware that this would manipulate the Mexican government to strike, spilling American blood on American soil . This action resulted in support from Congress to declare war; although, many voted in favor out of fear of being considered unpatriotic. Alternatively, many voted in favor of war in order to expand the amount of representatives opposed to slavery. Polk was not considered a strong nor wise ruler, Isaiah Berlin contends that Polk was a hedgehog, not a fox, he explains, Jefferson, FDR, and Bill Clinton were foxes. Jackson, Polk, and George W. Bush were hedgehogs. Whereas a fox has many ideas... hedgehogs, like Polk, have one. For those reasons, the Mexican war was an unjust war, and a result of American imperialism. Essay about Comparing The Sandman and Frankenstein In The Sandman, the weirdness of the tale could be perceived in two directions the first being that of intellectual uncertainty and the other is that of psychoanalytical experience and namely the ideas of Freud. In order to describe the uncanny experience in Hoffmann s The Sandman and Shelley s Frankenstein it is indispensable, however, to explain and define beforehand what is the connotation of Unheimlich. In my further analysis of the uncanny, I relate the two worksand stress on the obsession of the two characters which explains the weirdness in them. Moreover, I focus on the surrounding environment in the face of the society because it is pertinent to the discussion of the weirdness. The unconsciousness is also playing a major role in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, the uncanny is entangled in the ambivalence of the tale. Moreover, we could clearly notice that Hoffmann is purposely creating such uncanny effects as to leave the reader in uncertainty. For instance, when Hoffmann enters the personage of Olympia, he does not mention whether she is a human being or a doll and in such a way the reader is not immediately acquainted with the truth and his attention is thus not directly focused on this uncertainty. It is noteworthy that this way of constructing the tale creates quite an unparalleled emotional effect. Freud, however, argues that at the end of the tale we come to know the truth, that is Coppola is, in fact, Coppelius and therefore the Sandman. He argues that the theme of Olympia and the succession of the events in the story could not be the only underlying factors in evoking this extraordinary atmosphere of weirdness. For Freud, the reason could be discerned in Nathaniel s fear of losing his eyes * an obsessive fear haunting him from his very childhood. This anxiety about his eyes is according to Freud enough a substitute for the dread of being castrated. Freud proves his thesis by replacing the Sandman by the dreaded father at whose hands castration is expected. The Attack on Constantinople by the Crusaders The Attack of Constantinople by Crusaders In his account of the Crusaders siege of Constantinople, the Byzantine historian Nicetas Choniates, provides some compelling reports concerning the behaviors of the Christian knights and peasants who formed the Crusader army that sought to wrest control of the city from its defenders. In his account, Choniates makes the point that the Crusaders little resembled the good hearted Christians they purported to be, but were more like a barbarian horde in the brutality of their actions when reaching the city, which was a major center of the Christian faith at the time. Moreover, the Crusaders had even sacked another Christian city, Zara, on their way to Constantinople. It was clear, then, that these Crusaders were less interested in wresting the Holy Land from the Moslems than they were in taking advantage of this opportunity to unjustly enrich themselves at the expense of anyone who happened to get in their way. Therefore, as the characters experienced the bombing and its later effects, they shared what only they could know and did not have all the information about the attack. Because their personal accounts are overwhelming and in the mists of chaos, Hersey adds in additional factual details to supplement the characters confusion of events and help the reader see the devastation beyond the characters viewpoint. More specifically, Hersey includes information about the abnormal water droplets after the bombing. On page 18 of Chapter 2 The Fire, Hersey illustrates that Mr. Tanimoto recalled when huge drops of water the size of marbles began to fall, he half thought that they must be coming from the hoses of firemen fighting the blaze. Hersey then explains that what Mr. Tanimoto thought was coming from the firemen s hoses, were in fact drops of condensed moisture failing from the turbulent tower of dust, heat, and fission fragments that had already risen miles into the sky above Hiroshima, (18). Very often, in our everyday life, we tend to make certain generalizations about things and people around us. This is because we are constantly exposed to heaps of information, and in order to cope with the complexity of the world around us, we need to generalize and categorize.[1] Sometimes we do this on purpose, with some intention. However, very often we do this subconsciously, unaware of what we are doing. Many people generalize on others according to their clothes, profession, origin, way of speaking, and many other, outer markers. This sort of thinking could be very dangerous, and it can lead us to creating stereotypes. Stereotype is a term... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is interesting that most of them had similar answers, and almost everyone said the English were reserved, snobbish, and even evil. Americans were fat and stupid, self centered. Although none of them would admit to be stereotyping, they all somehow knew this was true. Many of them, when asked if they would ever live in these countries responded negativelly, because the people were bad. Thus they had some prejudices formed against these people, and did not want to do anything to help them understand and appreciate the other culture. Discrimination When the stereotypes we have formed last for too long in our minds, they can grow and develop into something more serious than prejudice. This is when we start acting and treating other people in a different, often bad and inhumane way.[7] This is another possible danger of using stereotypes, which is called discrimination. There are many different types of discrimination, based on appearance, age, nationality, sex, etc. One of the most common forms of discrimination is based on a well known stereotype found in many movies, magazines, and even in cartoons. Bradley Lewis Jianyi Lu (Ken) Bradley Lewis s Moving Beyond Prozac, DSM, and the New Psychiatry: the Birth of Post psychiatry, tried introducing contemporary humanistic theory based on post psychiatry in chapter two. Bradley tried to explain that the concept of post psychiatry could be supported by discussions through three philosophical approaches: referential, relational and pragmatic. Bradley described that new psychiatry pandered to Gross and Levitt s science war and went with the referential theory. The reference theory approach emphasizes the objective fact itself and does not depend on people s interpretations. Therefore, in the new psychiatry, diagnosis of a person will be based on whether the person satisfies a criterion of a certain disease or not. Bradley pointed out that the risk of taking the referential theory approach in psychiatry might strongly lead to the imposition of doctrine such that there was a truth in the world. Bradley also introduced the relational theory s flexibility, which was from the connection not with a fact in the real world but concepts in human s different interpretations or communities. In those times, women were seen as ornaments a momentary toy of passion to the society and properties to be traded within marriage, therefore, Victorian moralists repressed female sexuality. As a result, for a woman to admit she even had sexual desires was considered sinful, let alone acting on those desires like Porphyria did was borderline criminal. Moreover, when Porphyria glided in she untied her hat and let her damp hair fall . Victorian moralists referred to female fornicators as fallen women. Additionally, committing adultery was also a sin as it went against one of the Ten Commandments Thou shall not commit adultery , therefore, Porphyria letting her hair fall could symbolise the boundaries she had willingly chosen to overstep by coming to meet her lover. The title Porphyria s Lover may indicate to the reader the idea that the lover would be the only active article in the poem, especially if it was written by a male during those times. Not only does Bassam learn about the horrific things going on in the war but he also witnesses his best friend George killing himself, because George cannot go on knowing that he has committed such heinous crimes against humanity. Because of the war Bassam is betrayed by his best friend, tortured by the militia for a crime he did not commit and is forced to realize that the militia and war are not good, but rather morally wrong and pointless. Part III, of the novel is called Paris. Bassam escapes from Beirut and goes to Paris searching for George s father. After Bassam finds Georges family, they soon betray him. Paris is a symbol of Bassam s complete and utter hopelessness. In Paris Bassam thinks I had no plans, and realized that I could not think of any. Other than Rhea, no one in Paris knew me, no one was expecting me for dinner, nor to walk in a funeral procession, nor to work, eat, carry the wounded, speed around on motorcycles pg. 215. • 53. Hurricane Sandy And Its Effects On The Climate Change Hurricanes in movies, such as The Day After Tomorrow, are city destroying monsters that make nightmares come true. While this may be an extreme exaggeration of superstorms, New York has suffered from the destructive force of said superstorms. Three years ago, Hurricane Sandy swept into New York leaving only devastation in its wake. Sandy, while not nearly as devastating as some hurricanes, was the biggest seen since hurricane Katrinahit in 2005. Whilst Sandy is still called a hurricane, it is actually an extra tropical storm, which unlike hurricanes are caused by temperature contrasts in the atmosphere. These temperature contrasts are being made more extreme from the climate change and has been effecting our raising sea level. The destruction caused by Sandy has made New York come up with better ways of handling natural disasters. Climate change has begun to have an affect on our super storms and because of that, new solutions need to be made in order to prevent devastation s from extra tropical storms like Hurricane Sandy. For many years now, scientists have believed that our climate is changing. This climate change has caused water currents up north, near Antarctica to shift leading to warm waters taking the place of the usual cold arctic waters. Warm water melts the glaciers and causes the top of the glaciers to float off into the sea, allowing the warm water to melt even more glaciers. The extra glacier melting into our sea has caused the sea levels to raise and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. The Aids Epidemic Of Haiti Essay When a fatal disease becomes known to a society but lacks explanation our instinct as humans is to jump to conclusions, whether they are logical or not. We bargain with our faith, we search for any evidence to support our conjectures, we deny the truth of the disease, and we place blame on each other. All of these desperate acts of justification are driven by fear fear of the unknown. The combination of fear and ignorance that pushes people to make conclusions is readily notable in the AIDSepidemic of Haiti. Haitians reacted to AIDS in a similar manner as other cultures, but there are also differences that are specific to their community. Like many cultures, Haitians reasoned the occurrence of AIDS with explanations beyond the scope of medicine, with diseases that were known to them, or were instead in complete denial. The uniqueness of the occurrence of AIDS in Haiti was that there was no direct cause that could be addressed. Thus, while under significant scrutiny as the origin of AIDS, Haitians reacted to the epidemic by blaming the existence of AIDS on poor socioeconomic status, on sorcery, and on other people or countries. As part of their reaction to AIDS, Haitians had a propensity to attribute the existence of AIDS to poor populations. AIDS is indeed more prevalent among the lower socioeconomic class in Haiti, but the perception as to why this pattern occurred went beyond the simple interpretation that AIDS was a disease of the poor. In The Exotic and The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
