Music s Influence On The Anti Apartheid Movement
Music s Influence on the Anti Apartheid Movement
In 1948, the white government of South Africa began creating one of the most brutal systems of racial
segregation the world has ever known. Under the minority rule of Afrikaners a Southern African
ethnic group descending from Dutch settlers in the 17th century a unique system of racial separation
and white supremacy called apartheid was created and legislated against the majority black
inhabitants. Apartheid is an Afrikaans word which translates to the state of being apart. Lasting from
1948 until the early 1990s, an exploitative and unjust political system was imposed on the black native
people of Africa. Dutch and British colonists dispossessed them of their homes, families, and ... Show

According to the Anti Apartheid Movement Archives, The system was kept in place by a battery of
repressive laws, under which people could be detained indefinitely without trial. Despite this injustice,
the people of South Africa continually fought back against their oppressors. Many forms of resistance
were utilized mass protests, armed resistance, strikes and boycotts in order to dethrone the National
Party. The resistance began as community wide gatherings to protest the National Party, however as
the tactics of the tyrannical white government developed through violent means, the Africans peaceful
protests escalated to bloody rioting. The apartheid government is responsible for over 7,000 black
deaths during the 46 years it was in power. What many people do not know, however, is that
throughout all of apartheid, a single factor continually gave Africans the strength and courage to keep
fighting for freedom: music. Music has historically been a large part of black culture, and from
freedom songs to funeral processions, the people of Africa used music to come together and unite
against the despotic government. This music could be found in different cultural avenues such as
chants at protests, funeral processions, freedom songs, and airtime on local radio stations. After
decades of pain and

Burnout And Resilience
The prevalence of burnout occurring in universities are increasing owing to the evolving nature of an
academician s job scope becoming more challenging and strenuous, as recent research on
academicians stress indicates (Akgemci et al. 2013; Eker Anbar, 2008; Salami, 2011; Toker, 2011;
Winefield, 2003). Nevertheless, there remains a lack of exploration when it comes to testing the
association between burnout and resilience involving academicians of universities, which have
resulted in a lack of literature in the aforementioned context. Despite the growing literature on
resilience at present, it has had little impact so far in the field of educational psychology, although
different authors have suggested that over the years with such valuable ... Show more content on

Factors included that of emotional intelligence, empathy, self compassion, and mindfulness.
Instruments used in the study were the Emotional Social Competency Inventory, the Jefferson Scale of
Physician Empathy, Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire, Neff s Self Compassion Scale (short
form), Smith s Brief Resilience Scale and the Maslach Burnout Inventory Human Services Survey.
Results showed a minority (40%) of residents fulfilling one or more of the standards for burnout.
Physician empathy and emotional intelligence were not significantly correlated with burnout or
resilience whereas self compassion and mindfulness were positively related with resilience and
negatively linked with burnout. It was found that many residents endorsed burnout and mindfulness
and self compassion were associated with resilience and may promote resilience as well as protect
these trainees against burnout. Furthermore, results indicated that both mindfulness and self
compassion were positively associated with higher resilience and less emotional exhaustion (a
dimension of burnout); thus indicating mindfulness and self compassion may be attractive factors for
training these residents. This investigation suggests that both mindfulness and self compassion may be
the shields in protecting professionals personal health and well being against such predicaments as

Perils Of Knowledge In Frankenstein
The Perils of Knowledge Ever since man stepped foot on Earth, the search for knowledge has been
neverending. Within the past few centuries, man reached new heights never before dreamed of when it
came to information and inventions. Mary Shelley s Frankenstein embodies this quest for intellect.
Victor Frankenstein, the main character, sets off on a journey to acquire as much education as
possible, but by doing so ends up creating a shockwave of various effects. Thus, Frankenstein displays
how the obsessive pursuit of and acquirement of knowledge leads to extraordinary accomplishments,
such as new technology and inventions. However, at the same time, this impulse spurs nefarious
actions and consequences. Victor Frankenstein is the first character in the novel. His life starts in a
wealthy and noble family and after some time decides to attend the University of Ingolstadt to study
sciences. Victor becomes so obsessed with his studies that the stars often appeared in the light of
morning whilst I was yet engaged in my laboratory , (30). Studying night and day, Victor eventually
made some discoveries in the improvement of some chemical instruments , a contribution that
undoubtedly led to improvements in the science and medical aspects of the 19th century (31).
However, the main focus of Victor s compulsive studies comes later in the novel when he creates the
creature. He grasped for the idea of creating a living human frame from scratch: a concept that had

Social and Political Aspects in Kipling and Dickens ...
Social and Political Aspects in Kipling and Dickens Writing Styles
The Victorian period started from 1830 to 1901, and it was known for various aspects. These aspects
are distributed between authors and writers of this era. The Victorian period is so called due to Queen
Victoria who ruled Britain successfully, and the city of London expanded from about two million
people to six and a half at the time of her death. Charles Dickens and Rudyard Kipling are
representatives of Victorian literature; each of them is concerned with specific social and political
issues of that era, and these issues are shown in their stories. Charles Dickens story is Great
Expectations and
Rudyard Kipling s story Rikki Tikki Tavi .

As is known, children at that time were made to work and they were forced into workhouses because
their living status was low. This is what we can call child abuse . Charles Dickens story deals mostly
with humans in the British culture. Rudyard
Kipling s story deals with animals which are used figuratively and that is, to represent the people of
India at that time of the
Victorian period. These animals respect their masters and respond to their demands especially that
they sacrifice themselves for white people. So in Rikki Tikki Tavi Rikki saves the family members
lives by killing the snake.
Social aspects in Britain lead children to steal and be criminals in order to live and satisfy their
desires. Besides that, there was no education. That s why children were not taught manners or even
learned how to respect. As for Pip he was forced to steal food for the convict, to submit to his
demands. Otherwise he would get something he does not like, and therefore once a child gets into a
life of crime it is hard for him to get out of the cycle.
But Kipling s story is different, it represents India as foreign society for Teddy, who he can not cope
with, and at the same time he tries to control Rikki and put him under his

Babycakes Budget Planning Paper
Babycakes Budget Planning
The first thing Babycakes needs to do is to be financially ready. Babycakes needs to set financial
goals, identify where the money is going by tracking their spending and making sure, they have
enough baking supplies. This will help track what ingredients to buy and introduce holiday cupcakes.
Babycakes will analyze and revise their budget by adjusting and making room for new and more
products in an effort to make a profit. As a business, Babycakes will use social media to anticipate
advertising and promotion.
Controlled Budget
Having a controlled budget is easier to budget, as management already knows how much ingredients
they need, how much time it will take to make the cupcakes, and how many employees it takes to ...

For example, for the month of October, 23 days (6 days per week times 4 weeks) at 1,000 expected
units plus Halloween s expected unit sales (1,500) equaled 24,500 units times the price of$3.50
equaled the total net sales for the month of October of $85,750. The same formula was used for the
months of November and December in an attempt to budget from one month to the next. The total 4th
quarter sales budget, with the holiday expected unit sales came to a total of $250,950. These totals can
be used as the comparison budget for next year s budgeting since this is the first year for Babycakes in
LA. The figures presented are strictly sales predictions and do not
include daily operations cost. (Short, K., 2016)
Flexible Budget. A flexible budget can be used to allow the manager to look into spending or making
changes in adjusting expenses to be able to see a company s future financial performance. Flexible
budgeting can show a manager that they have overspent or not have enough cupcakes to be sold or not
priced correctly. Flexible budgets allow for changes in supplies, products, cost of goods, and expenses
if needed.
Budgets should allow for flexibility to find ways to make a profit verses a fixed budget where you
know exactly what you will spend and what you get in return. It might be a little risky to allow a flex
budget but, this way

Essay On Laparoscopic Hysterectomy
Introduction: Hysterectomy assisted by laparoscopic techniques has been used for 25 years and
recently also by a robot assisted procedure. The robot assisted procedure has been shown to have
certain advantages over conventional laparoscopic hysterectomy, as it is associated with shorter length
of stay (LOS) and fewer conversions to laparotomy 1. Both conventional laparoscopic hysterectomy
and the robot assisted procedure have many advantages over open surgery, as it significantly reduces
the need for blood transfusion as well as pain and the amount of analgesia used 2. However, well
performed studies with multimodal pain management are needed in order to reduce the amount of
opioids used and thereby reducing the well known side effects, such as postoperative nausea and
vomiting (PONV) 3. The transversus abdominis plane (TAP) block is increasingly used as pain
management after abdominal surgical procedures 4 7. Three studies have evaluated the effect of TAP
block after total laparoscopic hysterectomy with varying results 8 10. No studies on TAP block after
robot assisted hysterectomy have been published. The main objective of our study was to ... Show

In our study we placed the TAP block just after the patient was anaesthetized, prior to surgery. TAP
block can be placed either before surgery, at the end of surgery before awakening the patient, or as a
rescue block if needed at the PACU. Placement prior to surgery has the advantage that the transversus
abdominis plane might be easier to visualize with ultrasound, as surgery can make the ultrasound
picture more blurred due to oedema. The disadvantages for placing TAP block prior to surgery may be
the time limit factor, as the duration has been described to be 8 to 24 hours in previous studies. Thus,
prolonged surgery time will reduce the postoperative duration of the block. No randomiserandomized
studies comparing TAP block placed prior or after surgery are

Relationship Between Birth Order And Personality
Birth order and personality have been a topic of discussion throughout the years with many well
known psychologist like Freud and Adler doing research on them. Some research that has been
conducted shows there is no correlation between birth order and personality. Then there is other
research that states in fact birth order does affect personality and intelligence. I believe birth order
shows distinctive characteristics in regard to firstborns and their achievement level in comparison to
their younger siblings. The media article we picked was from an online journal called The Atlantic.
The article in summary talked about how two of the studies they looked at showed no resemblance
with birth order and personality traits. Beck states, birth order is similar to a horoscope because each
child is classified as a specific personality trait. With this article, The Order On Personality And
Achievement Within Families they did multiple studies and found there is a relationship between the
two. In study number 2 they found that firstborns were ranked more conscientious and more
achieving. In all of the articles I found they showed construct validity. The first article was conducted
with 375 students. The researchers wanted to figure out if first borns or second borns were higher in
either mastery goals or performance goals. Their construct was mastery and performance and they
measured this with a survey that had a 5 point scale. Each survey pertaining to either mastery or

Zimbabwean Refugees in South Africa
Post Apartheid South Africa has been a beacon of hope to the entire African continent. After its
democratic elections in 1994, South Africans were optimistic that life would be better and more equal
in every way. Many Africans used South Africa as a sign of better times to come and when these
hopes weren t realized in their own countries, an influx of immigrants appeared at South Africa s
borders. These newcomers arrived for a variety of reasons, many were escaping violence and torture
in their homelands while others were economic refugees who were seeking employment in South
Africa s growing economy.
I will describe the national immigration policy in South Africa as well as focus on Zimbabweans, who
make up the majority of foreigners ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The criteria for the program included proof of formal employment, a specified salary, and the payment
of the initial deposit and monthly installments (Zimbabwe, 4). The government was hoping to expel
the poor from urban areas, forcing them to the city outskirts and eventually out of sight back to rural
areas. The obstruction of international humanitarian assistance, the forced involuntary relocation to
rural areas as well as restrictions on their economic activities highlights quite a predicament that some
700,000 Zimbabweans were in (Zimbabwe, 23).
Those who escape do not necessarily trade their rags for riches. South Africa has had to adjust to the
influx of immigrants and simply has not been able to provide the necessary services for the many
thousands who are trying to integrate into the country. The Zimbabwe Torture Victims Project (ZVTP)
asked respondents whether they had ever been direct victims of violence and/ or torture, and whether
they had been threatened or intimidated by members or supporters of a political party or the security
forces. 30% said they had been direct victims of violence or torture. Of these, 47% can be identified as
having clinically significant psychological disorders and the prevalence rate overall was 14%
(Zimbabwe Torture Victims Project, 10). Despite this data, little resources are available to treat or to
alleviate the problems these individuals face.

Reflection Paper In Pharmacy
Throughout the course of my first semester in the pre pharmacy program, I participated in a class
called Introduction to the Pharmacy Profession. The purpose of the class was to establish general
knowledge about the job of pharmacists and to assist the students with their future plans. The class
introduced many guest speakers who have jobs in all different areas of pharmacy. Before listening to
each speaker in class, the students were asked to write three questions about each specific job based
on the required reading from the APhA Career Pathways Program. The students also participated in
Common Read Events to broaden their knowledge about diversity. After completing the APhA Career
Pathway exercises, I received a total of ten careers that matched my responses. Five of the pharmacy
careers were based off my answers to the forty five questions in the program exercises. These careers
include outpatient health system pharmacy, ambulatory care, mail service pharmacy, home health care
pharmacy, and community health center. The other five pharmacy careers were based off the factors
that I marked as the most important critical factors to my life. These careers included clinical
specialist, ambulatory care, community health center, office based medication management, and
outpatient health system pharmacy. Outpatient health system pharmacy is a career that matched both
my question responses and my most important critical factors. Pharmacists counsel and dispense

Gian Carlos Menotti Research Paper
Gian Carlo Menotti was born on July 7th 1911 in Cadegliano, Italy. Unfortunately, he died on
February 1, 2007 in Monte Carlo, Monaco at the age of 95. He was an American composer. He started
writing music at the age of seven with the help of his mother. On top of her helping him with his
music, she also provided piano, cello, and violin lessons for him and his siblings. At the age of eleven,
Menotti wrote the words and music to his first opera known as The Death of Pierrot . After moving to
the United States after his father s death, Menotti began training at the Verdi Conservatory in Milan in
1923. Then completed his musical studies at Philadelphia s Curtis Institute of Music.
Menotti is well known for seven orchestras, eleven soloist and orchestra, two works for band
ensembles, three works for three to six players, four solo keyboards, three chorus a capella, fourteen
ensembles, twenty seven solo voices, nineteen opera and music theatre; which makes ninety one
works total. Most of his works were composed in English. His first blown opera was known as The
Island God. His second opera was a version of Hans Christian Anderson s Little Mermaid and was

Reminiscence By Elizabeth Jenning
Throughout Elizabeth Jenning s poem Reminiscence , she explores the changing nature of love and its
transformation between childhood and adulthood. She indulges in the purity of love that exists within
the simplistic aspects of children s lives as she discusses the loss of naivety during the ascendence into
the complexities of adulthood. Demonstrating the innocence of childhood, Jenning s displays a sense
of freedom associated with their lack of anxiety and nuances. In opposition to such, adulthood is
presented to confine Jennings as she deals with the concept of feeling trapped which results in her
conflicting emotions that lead to a celebratory recollection of childhood ease.
Elizabeth Jenning s concludes that childhood affection is nothing ... Show more content on

Breaking the enjambement that symbolises the innocence of freedom, Jenning s use of a caesura after
the line did not seek to find something they could not touch, illustrates the cruelty of matured
intimacy. Jenning s exposes her struggle to bear the complicated characteristics of the love she has
grown to become familiar with as she discusses her difficulty to whittle a pattern from the shapeless
stony stuff. Her use of sibilance indicates that she despises the bitter disappointment she experienced
with love as a grown woman. The harsh repetitive sound establishes the fact that adulthood
continuously hurts her which is further reinforced by the noun pattern. A pattern is a regular use of
colour or imagery which reflects the cycle of childhood to adulthood, a sequence of changing love that
Jenning s cannot prevent. A second interpretation to such would be the evidenced idea that Jenning s
battles with the incapability to relate the soft nature of childhood love to the viciousness of adulthood.
The connotations of a pattern are a beautiful childhood drawing which she cannot create out of the
brittle nature of adulthood

Medea Hook Analysis
A mother who kills her children must be psychotic, monstrous, and barbaric, right? Every story has a
hook (something to make the audience interested in learning more about the story.) Medea s hook is
that Medea murdered her two children to get vengeance on her husband. The hook causes many
people to create a preconceived notion of who Medea is as a person. However, if someone takes the
time to understand the circumstances and boundaries Medea lives within that person would come to
understand that Medea is not the monster that the hook makes her out to be. If one can take a step
back, and attempt to understand the institution of Athenian marriage, gender roles, and the immense
sacrifices Medea made throughout her life that person may find that ... Show more content on

Before diving into how Medea exemplifies this quote, one must first question why it s a woman? Why
isn t the saying, hell hath no fury like a man scorned? Critics want to say that Medea is the
stereotypical woman overcome with heartbreak and hormones and therefore she suffers temporary
insanity by murdering their children, but this is not the case. Medea gave Jason every part of her and
then some. To show his gratitude, Jason decided not only to say that all of those sacrifices were
meaningless, but to also go on to steal part of her identity as well. Jason stole Medea s past, present,
and future by deciding to leave her. Once one is able to empathize with all the pain and suffering
Medea endures she is able to understand why Medea reacts with the extremities that she does.
Logically, Medea does the exact same thing to Jason as he did to her when he left her. While Medea is
not able to take Jason s past, she is able to take his present and future in the worst way possible, which
is exactly what she does. Critics want to judge Medea before attempting to empathize and understand
her story. Killing her own children to strip Jason of everything is a punishment so unimaginable, some
might say it is even worse than hell. William Congreve once wrote, Heav n has no Rage, like Love to
Hatred turn d,/ Nor Hell a Fury, like a woman

Sal s Journey On The Road Research Paper
In the novel On the Road by Jack Kerouac, Sal is constantly trying to find a new beginning. In search

reader that Sal will do anything to achieve his dreams even if it means going through tough hardships.
This shows the reader Sal s determination to go out West due to the obstacles in his way. The reader
even gets the sense of Sal s dreams in the following quote, Filled with dreams of what I d do in

Canterbury Tales Essay
Canterbury Tales Wife of Bath is Not an Attack on Women and Married Life
Feminists have proposed that the Prologue of the Wife of Bath is merely an attack on women and
married life. The Prologue is spoken by a woman with strong opinions on how married life should be
conducted, but is written by a man. It is important to examine the purpose with which Chaucer wrote
it. This is especially so as many of the pilgrims in The Canterbury Tales condemn themselves out of
their own mouths, such as the Monk and the Friar. While the Wife spends most of the Prologue
arguing in favour of the deceit and deviousness that wise wives will execute, the argument is often
illogical and can approach ridiculousness in its vehemence. Are we to agree with ... Show more

However, the vitality and forcefulness of the Wife forces us to avoid coming to so neat a conclusion.
Dame Alison is frightening and dangerous, true. By the moral codes of society, she has sinned by
committing adultery, and strictly speaking, should not have married so many times. However, the
language that Chaucer has her speak is not that of right and wrong, it is that of total amorality and self
service. The Wife does not pretend to better behaviour, nor does she accuse anyone else of sinning,
and so we cannot accuse her of hypocrisy. In contrast, the Monk and Friar [good] are clearly the
targets of irony, as they do not seem to be aware of the contradictions in their arguments. The Wife s
contradictions are so staggering and frequent: confusing bigamy with remarriage, using God s
commandment to go forth and multiply although she is childless, and especially, her frank admission
that in previous showdowns with her old husbands, al was false that she accused them of. She is not a
hypocrite; on the contrary, she glories in her irrationality and manipulation of her material. It is
difficult, therefore, to see her as being attacked through irony, as the Monk and Friar are.

The New Form Of The Electric Industry
Abstract The Norwegian parliament decided to restructure the electric power market following United
Kingdom s adoption of The Energy Act in 1990 to promote market competition and improve
efficiency. Nord Pool was founded in 1993 as a pool for electric power exchange and became the
world s first integrated exchange platform to trade electric power contracts. This paper presents a
summary of the several milestones in the development of the Nordic power market into its present
form. The financial derivative market, the day ahead market, the intraday market and the major market
participants in Nord Pool have been elaborated along with the mechanism used by Nord Pool to

THE early form of the electric industry, evolved around 1880 A.D. when electric lighting system
became prevalent. At this time, there was a significant competition between electric utilities for
customers. However, since the early 1900 s a general consensus developed that it is cheaper and
economical to produce power at large scale, and hence the electric power industry changed to a natural
monopoly structure. With a monopoly market

How Does Lord Byron Use Imagery In She Walks In Beauty
During the 1800s, the Romantic Movement was at its peak. Artists were rebelling against the logical
nature of the Enlightenment period because they felt that people were losing their individuality. Poets
used creativity to find new ways to express imagination and emotions. Lord Byron, one of the poets
during the Romantic Movement, used very vivid imagery along with other techniques to portray
people s feelings, often of love or despair. He wrote She Walks in Beauty about his love and affection
towards an unnamed woman, later assumed to be his cousin, Anne Wilmont. To portray Wilmont s
inner and outer perfection, Lord Byron uses contrasting imagery, personification, and a structured
rhyme and rhythm. Throughout the poem, Byron uses imagery ... Show more content on

fact that the light and dark meet up in her aspect and her eyes. This calls attention to how her features

highlights the steady rhythm and flow of the rest of the poem. Besides that one line, the rest of the
poem has constant rhyming and meter. The rhyming and rhythm create a pleasant atmosphere that
flows effortlessly like the woman s beauty. The iambic tetrameter gives a heart beat like rhythm
because of the unstressed stressed syllables, which helps develop a steady walking rhythm, much like
how the woman walks in beauty (1). Additionally, to aid in the soothing tone of the poem, Byron
utilizes a plethora of alliteration to enhance the sound. He repeats the s sound in when talking about
how her thoughts are serenely sweet express[ed] (l1) on her face, and again when describing the
expressions on her face as so soft, so calm (14). The s sound is calming and relaxing contributing to
the overall sound of the poem. The repeated sounds also shows how beauty exceeds images alone. The
soothing sounds and consistent rhythm sounds melodic to the ear, almost as if the poem

Black Economic Impotence
Black Economic Impotence: Living Under the Rules of Another He who has the gold makes the rules!
The above quote has been attributed to everyone from Jesus of Nazareth to Tyler Perry; however, the
first time I heard it was from a Jewish business man named David, who was teaching me the
principles of business and life. What he was explaining to me was the simple truth that those who don
t acquire wealth will always be at the mercy of those who do. He was addressing my proclivity to take
on the position of a renegade in dealing with many of the status quos of business. He told me that my
rebel spirit would serve me well, but only if I was able to obtain the gold. As I digress slightly, it is
important to take note that this white man took on the role of mentoring me after numerous blacks had
avoided and ignored my requests to teach me the game of business. Another role that this person

It is vital to understand that empowerment is not an exogenous transformation. Empowerment is a
process that is ignited internally and sustained autonomously. It is imperative that blacks get the gold,
if we ever expect to impact the rules of the game. To this point, those with the gold have implemented
rules that benefit them. They control the rules of engagement, and that leaves us as pawns in a game of
chess that is being played for all that is at stake. I have often said that those in power have been
playing chess while blacks having being checkers. The first time I heard that statement was sitting
across from the man who was teaching me to play chess as a kid. I think I was around eight years old.
I have since heard it used metaphorically on numerous occasions as a dual analogy. Allow me to bring

greater, which can have a major impact on social change in a global society. As a result, we are now
faced with finding and developing leaders who can use social media to influence change. Moreover,

The author suggests that leaders in educational programs should adopt the values of a Social Change
Model in conjunction with digital leadership competencies. According to the article, the Social
Change Model is a leadership development model composed of three levels, including individual,
group, and community and is primarily used in higher education to train college students to become
agents of social change. With this in mind, digital leadership requires reflection on online self
awareness and congruence, grappling with the controversy that comes with cyber civility and how to
be a digital citizen prepared to inspire positive change in modern society. In addition, these leaders
should be adept in digital literacy, which includes a concatenation of technical (online interfaces,
applications), cognitive (critically thinking), and social/emotional (netiquette, safety) (Ahlquist, 2014).
These competencies give leaders the leeway to quickly address rapid changes in technology by being
creative and collaborative in hope to facilitate a better

The Theme Of Nature In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
Mary Shelley s Frankenstein was a groundbreaking novel into the horrors that humans can achieve. It
helped defined a genre, and gave a new meaning to the gothic novel line of books. Shelley came up
with the idea of Frankenstein during a bet with her fellow poet friends. Whomever could write the best
scary story won their competition, and this was how Frankenstein was born. Shelley included many
themes in her creation of the story Frankenstein such as Family, Imagination, Ambition, Education,
and Nature.
Mary Shelley imbued all these themes into her story to create a connection from the characters to her
readers, for us to help understand her characters deeply. One feels a sense of connection with the
monster and Victor in this story. Shelley ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The monster is almost a child, in amazement at the wonder of nature. The irony behind his love of
nature is clear because the monster himself is a violation of nature. Victor reversed nature when he
brought back something from the dead. The creature may be living, breathing, and sentient but he is an
abomination of nature. Shelley used her grief of losing her baby, to create the monster in a way that
makes him seem as if he is an infant and he has been rejected as an infant by society and made out to
be an evil monster (Britton, Abstract). The creature himself was just born a man, he did not experience
infanthood, he was just created. He was created and immediately hated, and he could not understand
why because he had the mind of an infant. He was innocent until he was treated horribly. This is an
example of human nature. Human nature is hating something that is so different than you, just for
being different. And human nature is shown in all its ugliness in this story, for wherever the monster
goes, there are people to chase him away for being scary. This almost parallels the Rime of the
Ancient Mariner in a sense. In the Ancient Mariner, the Mariner harms nature and nature harms him
right back. The theme is that you must respect nature otherwise you will be killed by the one thing you
defiled. And this is true of Victor and his monster. He defiled nature, and the life of what he created,
and nature came back to kill his family and in the end, it killed Victor

Teaching Critical Thinking Skills Through Different...
Critical thinking can be taught through various strategies within the lesson or it can be taught
explicitly as a standalone lesson. Teaching critical thinking to students as a standalone lesson is as
popular as reading Shakespeare plays; it just doesn t work, you don t get the same outcome. Hence, I
will focus on teaching critical thinking skills through different strategies. Current research shows that
critical thinking helps students be more successful. Critical thinking helps students make better
decisions in and outside of school, and it also helps them to properly analyze and evaluate
information. Recently, the Common Core State Standards have emphasized that critical thinking is an
interdisciplinary skill crucial for students educational success and decision making beyond school
years. This is especially important in today s society, where information is readily available via
internet. Students must learn to properly identify faulty information. Stephen Norris, an educational
researcher, states that if students have critical thinking skills they will be able to partake rationally in
the decision making of a democratic society, thus helping to sustain a democratic way of life (p.22).
Teaching critical thinking is a very difficult task, but by using effective strategies teachers will be able
to help more students succeed academically and in life. Therefore, critical thinking needs to happen
every day in the classroom. In order to effectively teach critical thinking,

Platonic Love In Romeo And Juliet
Love is a topic that has taken over today s world. From music to movies, everything is now based on
the love and relationships between people. However, Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, which is
arguably the most famous love story in the world, could also be seen as a warning against love. The
play Romeo and Juliet shows how platonic and romantic love can cause tragedy.
First of all, platonic love caused tragedy in Romeo and Juliet. One of the ways platonic love lead to
tragedy was through the love and loyalty between Romeo and his best friend, Mercutio. After Tybalt

It is noticeable that the market needs mobile developers. Recently, mobile programming has grown
10 times faster than desktop programming. Even though this is going on and on for years now and a
lot of people started participating in this area of business, there is still place for more. After
researching a few websites for job opportunities I came across 3 interesting posts.
The first job is about a Junior Mobile Application Developer. The posts states that you will be
mentored, but still, you need to have enough experience so you can manage things on your own. The
skills required for this position are as expected: A working knowledge of .NET, C#, Java, HTML5, ...

As you can see I am going up, one step at a time. The requirements for this position are longer than
the whole information given in the two previous posts. Do you have at least 5 years professional
software development experience? No. Do you have at least 3 years professional Android
development experience? No. You should have experience in almost every field that is connected in
some way with mobile development, examples are: Java, Android SDK, Eclipse ADB, Knowledge of
Android specific UI patterns and affordances, IOS, PHP, JQuery etc., oh and let s not forget about the
degree in computer science. So if we say that you become a Junior developer, wait a few years, then
go up to just being a developer and take your life in your hands by reading books and coding more
than you breathe, yes, you might be able to apply for a position like that in about 30 years.
The chart below sums up the main skills that are required in order to launch your career in Mobile
Development. How does that fit my skill set? Barely. But a good amount of time and effort can easily
fix that. An example of a way to start building up my skill set is by actually starting to work on an app.

Athenian Democracy and Divination Essay
Athenian Democracy and Divination
Divination was a prevalent feature in Archaic Greece, as it provided objective advice, to assist people
in making appropriate decisions in problematic predicaments. In certain situations its ambiguity
allowed decisions to be postponed, or blame to be assigned to others. Divination was also used to
explain matters that seemed unexplainable, such as crop failure or drought. This is illustrated in the
Homeric epics, which depicts numerous oracle interpreters, such as Calchas, consulting oracles on
domestic, as well as, military decisions. Divination was a guiding authority in ancient society.
However, during the fifth and fourth century BC, the democratic ... Show more content on

This kind of attitude is not going to be of much help to you in your absurd conquest for safety at the
moment .[4]
Thucydides portrays the Athenians in an arrogant light, which suggests that they will get their
comeuppance for such sacrilegious opinions. Furthermore, Thucydides also highlights the scientific
approach that the Athenians have towards their domination of the Peloponnese, suggesting that it is
the law of nature , that they should conquer as much as they can. The rise of freethinking, that the
democracy had established, had lead to the neglect of the gods. In comparison, Xerxes, in his conquest
to dominate Greece, complies with a dream that is sent from the gods, which indicates to him and
Artabanus that he should continue with the Persian wars.[5] Herodotus, writing in the early fifth
century, highlights the importance of following divination, whereas, Thucydides, writing in the later
fifth century, focuses on decisions made by the people.

Customer Service And Customer Success
Customer service and customer success continues to be a big elephant in the room for many
businesses. While most of today s businesses have some level of training in customer service, many
don t take customer service seriously enough.
But data consistently shows that customers are increasingly focused on the level of service they
receive. A majority of today s consumers is prepared to switch if the service they receive isn t up to
standard. But what is behind the enhanced focus on customer service and can companies truly benefit
from better customer service? This guide will look at the reasons 21st century is the century for
understanding customer service.
What is Customer Service / Customer Success all about?
Customer service is a concept most people in business know about but not everyone truly understands
its importance. Customer service is essentially a crucial part of the product or service your business
offers, as it can directly influence the customer experience of the given product. This means that
customer service is an important part of building the brand.
Customer service is often taken care of by special customer service representatives. In fact, most
companies often have a specific customer service department, which deals with customer enquiries
over the telephone, but increasingly also through different online methods such as e mail and chat.
While customer service representatives play a crucial role in nurturing customer relationships, most

Genetic Engineering And The Future Of The Destruction Of...
Genetic Engineering; Path to the Future of the Destruction of Society?
Being human, it s a natural desire to want other things that people have, whether we like it or not. We
are always comparing ourselves to other people. We are wanting to be taller, have this hair color, or
even want to have better writing skills. When we re born, you can t technically choose what you will
look like or what traits your parents will pass onto you. Advances in biotechnology have changed the
way we see DNA and how we can alter it to the way we want. You can have access to the way you
want to look or have the abilities that you desires. The field of genetic engineering has grown in such
ways where you can take sequences of DNA that control these certain traits and place them in your
sequence, giving you that desired traits. The storyline of any Sci Fi movie has come to reality. Genetic
engineering is the science that gives us the power to alter the very basics of life, and even with the
issues and possible negative consequence of the research, this technology is something that we need
for our benefit.
What is Genetic Engineering?
Genetic engineering is a very young technology. It is the modification of the traits and characteristics
of an organism by changing the DNA of the organism. DNA is seen as a universal language because
the code means the same thing in all species of animals. So when a trait is taken from one individual
and added to the genome of another individual it has the ability

Speech On Environmental Pollution
Pollution is a big problem in this day and age. Some pollution comes from burning gas to fuel our cars
or some other forms of pollution comes from volcanoes. Carbon dioxide is the main pollutant
warming the earth. But if we start producing less carbon dioxide then the earth will heat up even more.
I know it s crazy right. Carbon dioxide can be produced by cars, planes, power plants, and many more
activities that involve the burning of gas. Did you know that within the past 150 years we humans
have produced the highest level of sulfur dioxide. Yes it s true. When volcanoes erupt they produce
sulfur dioxide which causes pollution but in this world today humans produce the most amount of
sulfur dioxide. You might be asking yourself what are other humans doing to help prevent pollution?
Well, some industrialized countries are trying to help prevent pollution a little bit more. But we can
help them with that by driving/flying less or recycling more. So let s throw our best efforts in to help
save our atmosphere. The most polluted city in the world is Dehli, New York. Delhi, New York is so
polluted that there is a little bit of a yellow tint in the sky. Matthieu Daley spent 5 days taking pictures
all around Delhi and in his photographs you can see a little bit of yellow over the sky. We can see
physical results of pollution in his photographs. No one wants to have yellow skies so let s throw in a

They have taken the continuous research on SIPs for over 30 years which helped to develop the SIPs
in its design and materials. ( Panjehpour, Ali, and Voo, 2013)
In 1936, Frank Lloyd Wright used a form of SIPs to construct the Usonian homes. Alden B. Dow, an
American architect who was the student of Frank Lloyd Wright, created the first foam core SIPs in
1952. Rigid foam insulation became accessible when the affordable SIPs had mass production by the
1960s. (Morley, 2000)
Operation
SIPs are prefabricated panels, which are assembled and pre cut in the manufactory. Features such as
window openings, headers can be included on the panels according to the design submission by a
builder. (Cold Climate Housing Research Center, 2015)

The size and thickness of panels depend on the application and thermal or structural requirements. In
the United Kingdom , the material of panels normally is orientated strand board grade 3 or plywood
combined with various plastic foams including expanded polystyrene, extruded polystyrene, urethane
and other similar insulation cores. (Porteous and Kermani, 2013)

Describe The Role Of Fatty Acid In Metabolism Research Paper
The catabolism of fatty acids is the breakdown of food to release energy. Saturated fatty acids are
those which have a single bond between the carbon atoms whereas, unsaturated fatty acids are those
which have at least one double bond in their structure. The catabolism of both types of fatty acids
produce higher energy yields of 9kcal per gram of fat compared to alcohol with 7kcal per gram and
only 4kcal per gram in carbohydrates and proteins. Energy is the capacity to do work which initially
comes from the sun. Energy is needed by the body for voluntary work, maintaining body functions,
homoeostasis and metabolic integrity. The breakdown of fatty acids only occur when there is a lack of
energy. One way to gain energy is through food. Fatty acids inside food are distributed to cells for
muscular contraction and general metabolism. Metabolism is the interconversion of different
chemicals in the body such as catabolism (exergonic reaction releasing energy) and anabolism
(endergonic reaction requiring energy). Three factors are important in metabolism: 1) Energy released
from some molecules are needed to build others e.g. ATP. 2) Carbon skeletons are the building blocks

  • 2. Music s Influence On The Anti Apartheid Movement Music s Influence on the Anti Apartheid Movement In 1948, the white government of South Africa began creating one of the most brutal systems of racial segregation the world has ever known. Under the minority rule of Afrikaners a Southern African ethnic group descending from Dutch settlers in the 17th century a unique system of racial separation and white supremacy called apartheid was created and legislated against the majority black inhabitants. Apartheid is an Afrikaans word which translates to the state of being apart. Lasting from 1948 until the early 1990s, an exploitative and unjust political system was imposed on the black native people of Africa. Dutch and British colonists dispossessed them of their homes, families, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to the Anti Apartheid Movement Archives, The system was kept in place by a battery of repressive laws, under which people could be detained indefinitely without trial. Despite this injustice, the people of South Africa continually fought back against their oppressors. Many forms of resistance were utilized mass protests, armed resistance, strikes and boycotts in order to dethrone the National Party. The resistance began as community wide gatherings to protest the National Party, however as the tactics of the tyrannical white government developed through violent means, the Africans peaceful protests escalated to bloody rioting. The apartheid government is responsible for over 7,000 black deaths during the 46 years it was in power. What many people do not know, however, is that throughout all of apartheid, a single factor continually gave Africans the strength and courage to keep fighting for freedom: music. Music has historically been a large part of black culture, and from freedom songs to funeral processions, the people of Africa used music to come together and unite against the despotic government. This music could be found in different cultural avenues such as chants at protests, funeral processions, freedom songs, and airtime on local radio stations. After decades of pain and ... Nevertheless, there remains a lack of exploration when it comes to testing the association between burnout and resilience involving academicians of universities, which have resulted in a lack of literature in the aforementioned context. Despite the growing literature on resilience at present, it has had little impact so far in the field of educational psychology, although different authors have suggested that over the years with such valuable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Factors included that of emotional intelligence, empathy, self compassion, and mindfulness. Instruments used in the study were the Emotional Social Competency Inventory, the Jefferson Scale of Physician Empathy, Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire, Neff s Self Compassion Scale (short form), Smith s Brief Resilience Scale and the Maslach Burnout Inventory Human Services Survey. Results showed a minority (40%) of residents fulfilling one or more of the standards for burnout. Physician empathy and emotional intelligence were not significantly correlated with burnout or resilience whereas self compassion and mindfulness were positively related with resilience and negatively linked with burnout. It was found that many residents endorsed burnout and mindfulness and self compassion were associated with resilience and may promote resilience as well as protect these trainees against burnout. Otherwise he would get something he does not like, and therefore once a child gets into a life of crime it is hard for him to get out of the cycle. • 7. Essay On Laparoscopic Hysterectomy Introduction: Hysterectomy assisted by laparoscopic techniques has been used for 25 years and recently also by a robot assisted procedure. The robot assisted procedure has been shown to have certain advantages over conventional laparoscopic hysterectomy, as it is associated with shorter length of stay (LOS) and fewer conversions to laparotomy 1. Both conventional laparoscopic hysterectomy and the robot assisted procedure have many advantages over open surgery, as it significantly reduces the need for blood transfusion as well as pain and the amount of analgesia used 2. However, well performed studies with multimodal pain management are needed in order to reduce the amount of opioids used and thereby reducing the well known side effects, such as postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) 3. The transversus abdominis plane (TAP) block is increasingly used as pain management after abdominal surgical procedures 4 7. The disadvantages for placing TAP block prior to surgery may be the time limit factor, as the duration has been described to be 8 to 24 hours in previous studies. Thus, prolonged surgery time will reduce the postoperative duration of the block. No randomiserandomized studies comparing TAP block placed prior or after surgery are ... Relationship Between Birth Order And Personality Birth order and personality have been a topic of discussion throughout the years with many well known psychologist like Freud and Adler doing research on them. Some research that has been conducted shows there is no correlation between birth order and personality. Then there is other research that states in fact birth order does affect personality and intelligence. I believe birth order shows distinctive characteristics in regard to firstborns and their achievement level in comparison to their younger siblings. The media article we picked was from an online journal called The Atlantic. The article in summary talked about how two of the studies they looked at showed no resemblance with birth order and personality traits. Beck states, birth order is similar to a horoscope because each child is classified as a specific personality trait. With this article, The Order On Personality And Achievement Within Families they did multiple studies and found there is a relationship between the two. In study number 2 they found that firstborns were ranked more conscientious and more achieving. In all of the articles I found they showed construct validity. The first article was conducted with 375 students. The researchers wanted to figure out if first borns or second borns were higher in either mastery goals or performance goals. Their construct was mastery and performance and they measured this with a survey that had a 5 point scale. Each survey pertaining to either mastery or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

After its democratic elections in 1994, South Africans were optimistic that life would be better and more equal in every way. Many Africans used South Africa as a sign of better times to come and when these hopes weren t realized in their own countries, an influx of immigrants appeared at South Africa s borders. The obstruction of international humanitarian assistance, the forced involuntary relocation to rural areas as well as restrictions on their economic activities highlights quite a predicament that some 700,000 Zimbabweans were in (Zimbabwe, 23). She indulges in the purity of love that exists within the simplistic aspects of children s lives as she discusses the loss of naivety during the ascendence into the complexities of adulthood. Demonstrating the innocence of childhood, Jenning s displays a sense of freedom associated with their lack of anxiety and nuances. In opposition to such, adulthood is presented to confine Jennings as she deals with the concept of feeling trapped which results in her conflicting emotions that lead to a celebratory recollection of childhood ease. Breaking the enjambement that symbolises the innocence of freedom, Jenning s use of a caesura after the line did not seek to find something they could not touch, illustrates the cruelty of matured intimacy. Her use of sibilance indicates that she despises the bitter disappointment she experienced with love as a grown woman. The harsh repetitive sound establishes the fact that adulthood continuously hurts her which is further reinforced by the noun pattern. A pattern is a regular use of colour or imagery which reflects the cycle of childhood to adulthood, a sequence of changing love that Jenning s cannot prevent. A second interpretation to such would be the evidenced idea that Jenning s battles with the incapability to relate the soft nature of childhood love to the viciousness of adulthood. However, if someone takes the time to understand the circumstances and boundaries Medea lives within that person would come to understand that Medea is not the monster that the hook makes her out to be. Critics want to say that Medea is the stereotypical woman overcome with heartbreak and hormones and therefore she suffers temporary insanity by murdering their children, but this is not the case. Medea gave Jason every part of her and then some. To show his gratitude, Jason decided not only to say that all of those sacrifices were meaningless, but to also go on to steal part of her identity as well. Jason stole Medea s past, present, and future by deciding to leave her. Once one is able to empathize with all the pain and suffering Medea endures she is able to understand why Medea reacts with the extremities that she does. Logically, Medea does the exact same thing to Jason as he did to her when he left her. While Medea is not able to take Jason s past, she is able to take his present and future in the worst way possible, which is exactly what she does. Critics want to judge Medea before attempting to empathize and understand her story. Canterbury Tales Essay Canterbury Tales Wife of Bath is Not an Attack on Women and Married Life Feminists have proposed that the Prologue of the Wife of Bath is merely an attack on women and married life. The Prologue is spoken by a woman with strong opinions on how married life should be conducted, but is written by a man. It is important to examine the purpose with which Chaucer wrote it. This is especially so as many of the pilgrims in The Canterbury Tales condemn themselves out of their own mouths, such as the Monk and the Friar. Dame Alison is frightening and dangerous, true. By the moral codes of society, she has sinned by committing adultery, and strictly speaking, should not have married so many times. However, the language that Chaucer has her speak is not that of right and wrong, it is that of total amorality and self service. The Wife does not pretend to better behaviour, nor does she accuse anyone else of sinning, and so we cannot accuse her of hypocrisy. In contrast, the Monk and Friar [good] are clearly the targets of irony, as they do not seem to be aware of the contradictions in their arguments. The Wife s contradictions are so staggering and frequent: confusing bigamy with remarriage, using God s commandment to go forth and multiply although she is childless, and especially, her frank admission that in previous showdowns with her old husbands, al was false that she accused them of. She is not a hypocrite; on the contrary, she glories in her irrationality and manipulation of her material. The irony behind his love of nature is clear because the monster himself is a violation of nature. Victor reversed nature when he brought back something from the dead. The creature may be living, breathing, and sentient but he is an abomination of nature. Shelley used her grief of losing her baby, to create the monster in a way that makes him seem as if he is an infant and he has been rejected as an infant by society and made out to be an evil monster (Britton, Abstract). The creature himself was just born a man, he did not experience infanthood, he was just created. He was created and immediately hated, and he could not understand why because he had the mind of an infant. He was innocent until he was treated horribly. This is an example of human nature. Human nature is hating something that is so different than you, just for being different. • 27. Teaching Critical Thinking Skills Through Different... Critical thinking can be taught through various strategies within the lesson or it can be taught explicitly as a standalone lesson. Teaching critical thinking to students as a standalone lesson is as popular as reading Shakespeare plays; it just doesn t work, you don t get the same outcome. Hence, I will focus on teaching critical thinking skills through different strategies. Current research shows that critical thinking helps students be more successful. Critical thinking helps students make better decisions in and outside of school, and it also helps them to properly analyze and evaluate information. Recently, the Common Core State Standards have emphasized that critical thinking is an interdisciplinary skill crucial for students educational success and decision making beyond school years. This is especially important in today s society, where information is readily available via internet. Students must learn to properly identify faulty information. Stephen Norris, an educational researcher, states that if students have critical thinking skills they will be able to partake rationally in the decision making of a democratic society, thus helping to sustain a democratic way of life (p.22). Teaching critical thinking is a very difficult task, but by using effective strategies teachers will be able to help more students succeed academically and in life. Therefore, critical thinking needs to happen every day in the classroom. In order to effectively teach critical thinking, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, which is arguably the most famous love story in the world, could also be seen as a warning against love. The play Romeo and Juliet shows how platonic and romantic love can cause tragedy. First of all, platonic love caused tragedy in Romeo and Juliet. One of the ways platonic love lead to tragedy was through the love and loyalty between Romeo and his best friend, Mercutio. After Tybalt killed Mercutio when Romeo refused to fight him, Romeo wanted to avenge his friend. He challenged Tybalt to a fight and exclaimed And fire eyed fury be my conduct now. (3. 1. ... Athenian Democracy and Divination Essay Athenian Democracy and Divination Divination was a prevalent feature in Archaic Greece, as it provided objective advice, to assist people in making appropriate decisions in problematic predicaments. In certain situations its ambiguity allowed decisions to be postponed, or blame to be assigned to others. Divination was also used to explain matters that seemed unexplainable, such as crop failure or drought. This is illustrated in the Homeric epics, which depicts numerous oracle interpreters, such as Calchas, consulting oracles on domestic, as well as, military decisions. Furthermore, Thucydides also highlights the scientific approach that the Athenians have towards their domination of the Peloponnese, suggesting that it is the law of nature , that they should conquer as much as they can. The rise of freethinking, that the democracy had established, had lead to the neglect of the gods. In comparison, Xerxes, in his conquest to dominate Greece, complies with a dream that is sent from the gods, which indicates to him and Artabanus that he should continue with the Persian wars.[5] Herodotus, writing in the early fifth century, highlights the importance of following divination, whereas, Thucydides, writing in the later fifth century, focuses on decisions made by the people. • 40. Describe The Role Of Fatty Acid In Metabolism Research Paper The catabolism of fatty acids is the breakdown of food to release energy. Saturated fatty acids are those which have a single bond between the carbon atoms whereas, unsaturated fatty acids are those which have at least one double bond in their structure. The catabolism of both types of fatty acids produce higher energy yields of 9kcal per gram of fat compared to alcohol with 7kcal per gram and only 4kcal per gram in carbohydrates and proteins. Energy is the capacity to do work which initially comes from the sun. Energy is needed by the body for voluntary work, maintaining body functions, homoeostasis and metabolic integrity. The breakdown of fatty acids only occur when there is a lack of energy. One way to gain energy is through food. Fatty acids inside food are distributed to cells for muscular contraction and general metabolism. Metabolism is the interconversion of different chemicals in the body such as catabolism (exergonic reaction releasing energy) and anabolism (endergonic reaction requiring energy). Three factors are important in metabolism: 1) Energy released from some molecules are needed to build others e.g. ATP. 2) Carbon skeletons are the building blocks for many different types of molecules. 3) Reducing equivalents ...
