My Experience In Community College
It never crossed my mind that both my academic life and the privilege to attend USC would ever be in
jeopardy. At first, I believed that my transition from a community college into a 4 year institution
would essentially be a walk at the park. Unfortunately, to my dismay, I was wrong. I underestimated
the level of work and effort that was required out of me from this university in order to be successful.
Instead, I overestimated my abilities and trusted my poor sense of judgement. This mentality
consequently stunted my potential to perform at my very best which led to my downfall. As a result, I
found myself in a very peculiar situation that I had never been in before nor ever experienced. I found
myself at the brink of academic disqualification and on the verge of having my dreams disappear right
before my eyes. Once I realized that I had basically lied to myself on how to properly handle my
academics and new life at USC was when my troubles began to manifest themselves. One of the main
reasons my work fell below acceptable standards was due to my extreme lack of confidence. This all
began when I started to not comprehend the material that was being presented to me in my classes.
Everything was moving too fast and I couldn t keep up. Unlike the community college courses that I
had taken the year before which were on average longer than an hour, allowed me take my time
understanding the material. But here at USC I was exposed to 50 minute long lectures that where too

Advantages Of Hiring A Freelancer
Hire Freelancer Vs Full Time Employee The freelance field has been growing. Nowadays, with the
ability to post free jobs on free jobs listing, more and more employers are preferring to hire

commit to being a full time employee. However, this does not mean that the days of hiring full time
employees are gone. There are those advantages that arise from hiring a full time employee.
Employers and business owners who need help with some of their duties have been torn between
whether what they need is to hire a full time employee or they should hire a freelancer. This article
aims at comparing hiring a freelancer and hiring an employee to work for you on a full time basis.

What are the Pros that you should expect? Advantages of Hiring a Freelancer 1. Reduced Cost Even if
you decide to work with a freelancer who asks for an hourly rate, you will still save yourself a
significant amount of money. Statistically speaking, you will be able to save at least twenty to thirty
percent each year. Remember, hiring a freelancer is not the same as when you have a full time
employee. A freelancer will not require you to pay him or her benefits such as retirement benefits and
health insurance. Also, you will be able to save on office cost. The majority of the freelancers are
remote. This means that you will not need an office or office equipment. 2. Numerous Talent to
Choose From Every time you decide to hire a freelancer, you are guaranteed to get someone to meet
your needs quite easily. With the rise of free job websites, all types of freelancers are available. In the
freelance platforms, you will find writers, marketers, programmers, designers, and more. All you need
to do after choosing your talent is to agree to the terms. Freelancers are always ready to start working.

How Does Truman Capote Use Syntax In The In Cold Blood
Truman Capote s In Cold Blood recounts the brutal murder of the Clutter family on November 15,
1959. However, Capote does not just detail the murder; he dramatizes it by shifting the focus from the
victims to the culprits. Through his use of syntax, diction and appeals to pathos, Capote achieves his
purpose of evoking sympathy in his audience for murderers Richard Dick Hickock and Perry Smith.
The way in which Truman Capote utilizes syntax throughout the novel gives insight to the true
character of the murderers. Following the murder, Perry Smith recalls, certain sounds returned a silver
dollar rolling across a floor, boot steps on hardwood stairs, and the sounds of breathing, the gasps, the
hysterical inhalations of a man with a severed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Capote excellently creates sympathy through his use of syntax by incorporating subordinate elements
into his writing, evolving his pace from smooth to staccato, and using syntax styles that mimic the
character s individuality. He also made crucial choices in vocabulary and grammar that contributed to
the sincerity and intent of the character at hand. Lastly, Capote stresses the loving home lives of the
murderers, evoking a sense of warm heartedness in the reader. His use of diction, syntax and appeals
to pathos in order to create sympathy for the murderers is effective in that it provoked the audience to
question the true motives of the murderers. Capote depicts the cold blooded culprits, Perry more so
than Dick, as honorable men; this evokes sympathy in the reader, for the loving, caring, respectful
nature both Dick and Perry exude would not be found in a brutal murderer. This leaves the reader is
disbelief, provoking him to then question the good and evil within himself, wondering if he too will
suffer a similar fate to that of Dick Hickock and Perry

Good Will Hunting is an interesting story of a young genius orphan growing in a slums of South

they end up being stubborn to each other that goes on for quite some time, waiting for the clock points

Reflection About Happiness
When I was around nine years old I lived in California. It was nothing fancy; we lived in a standard
house and I attended the elementary school I was zoned to. I was in the choir, too. The choir was, if
my memory does not fail me, a combination of fourth, fifth, and sixth graders. That year the teacher
had decided to use the song Happiness from the Broadway musical You re a Good Man, Charlie
Brown. While it was not a very good rendition of the piece, it stayed with me throughout the years.
For a long time I believed that happiness could be found in objects, in buying plastic things that I
would throw away a year later. But the song s catchy and meaningful lyrics stayed in the back of my
mind, providing me with a gentle reminder that my happiness did not necessarily have to come from
owning things. Despite popular belief, happiness is not something that is bought. Happiness is not
palpable. Up until a year ago, I believed that in order to be truly happy a person had to have massive
amounts of money and materialistic products that did nothing to make them happy. Though that may
be the case for some, I found that happiness is not often found in the amount of clothes a person has,
or the price tag of their home or car. Happiness is not measured in dollars, or how many properties a
person owns, or even how much their house is worth. Happiness, to me, is a feeling that is found in
people, memories and moments. When I think of the word happy I see my grandparent s house. The

Morality Is A Big Theme Throughout The Book Les Miserables
C project
Legality versus morality was a big theme throughout the book Les Miserables. Two of the main main
characters, Javert and Jean Valjean conflict on that issue many times. Jean Valjean is a man of his
morals rather than the law, whereas Javert is strictly about the law, and nothing else. Both of these
characters face many legal and moral issues throughout the book.
Jean Valjean looks into his morals when he is faced with a dilemma. The first time that this becomes
apparent is the beginning of the book, when we learn why he is in jail. Valjean was faced with jail
time because his family was struggling and starving and he thought is was morally okay to steal bread
for his family even though it was illegal. Valjean stealing the bread even though it was illegal, but
because his family needs it his morals say that it is okay for him to do so, showing legality versus
morality. Another thing that Valjean does that demonstrate this theme is that when Javert tells
Valjean(when he is mayor and going under the name of Madeleine) that someone has been caught
under his name. If he decides to do nothing he will then face no legal troubles any more, but because
of his morals he decides the right thing to do is to go to the court where this trail is taking place, and
say that he is the real Valjean. He think it is immoral to let this man suffer for his actions, so he
decides to reveal himself.
Javert is the opposite of Valjean, and relies heavily on the legality side. In the

The Deconstruction Of Mentor Texts Essay
Each of the three cycles included one initial draft writing session, one elaborating ideas session and
one changing vocabulary session. Each of the inquiry cycles had a different authentic context and
topic focus and each session involved links to reading programme (Appendix ?). Although text
structure and topic knowledge was not an explicit focus of the intervention, it is recognised as an
essential foundation of expert writing. Therefore the deconstruction of mentor texts, analysis of text
structure and developing topic knowledge was built into the reading programme and the initial draft
writing sessions. The elaborating ideas session was focused on writing for an audience and ensuring
their writing provide their audience with appropriate, specific and depth of information. The changing
vocabulary sessions focused on identifying common words and replacing or adding synonyms that
were rarely used in their writing. Following each inquiry cycles one or two substantial changes were
made in subsequent inquiry cycles to improve and refine the teaching and learning strategies
employed, as shown in figure 3.

Human beings are living organisms whose health is dependent on how well internal body systems
interact with the external system. A person is considered healthy when all the body systems are
performing at an optimum rate and interacting appropriately. There is another aspect that influences
the well being of people significantly. The interaction between an individual also plays an important

Companies should not strive to achieve financial performance at the expense of the society and the
environment.
Organizations are expected to actively analyze the impact of their operations on the overall financial
and social systems in which they operate. Businesses should know expectations of the society and
then manage their behavior and actions to yield results that address those expectations. The
implementation of corporate social responsibility plan by an organization is an honor to humanity and
nature. CSR discourages organizations from engaging in activities that threaten the life of people
affected by its operations. An example is waste management strategies a company puts in place to
ensure an appropriate disposal of by products. Waste materials can pose health dangers such as cancer,
contamination of water and food which may result in illnesses or even death of community members.
Additionally, natural resources such as forests and water are threatened by selfish strategies aimed at
realizing financial performance without consideration of social responsibilities of the firm. CSR also
encourages organizations to behave and act in a manner that promotes values of the community which
they are embedded (International Conference on Economics and Management Engineering, 2014).
Alexander P. (2015) argues that business ethics should not be sacrificed on the altar of profit
maximization. It is the interest of shareholders to get more returns from their

Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a concern for many Americans, especially soldiers. The U.S.
Department of Veteran Affairs reports that 11 20% of military personnel who have served in Iraq and
Afghanistan struggle with PTSD ( PTSD: National Center for PTSD ). Thankfully, extensive time,
effort, and money go into researching the disorder so that psychologists, psychiatrists, and doctors can

Ultimately, a breakdown of their approaches reveals a superior article: the latter by Jacobson et al.
With funding from the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs and the National Institute of Health,
Haskell et al. set out to contribute to a growing body of research on gender differences. They obtained
1129 electronic medical records (1032 men, 197 women) from the VA Connecticut Health Care
System where veterans are screened annually for PTSD. Because these data came in the form of text,
Haskell et al. used a text processor to parse through the doctors notes and determine whether a patient
had tested positive for PTSD. To assure the text processor was accurate, they randomly sampled 25
medical records for both men and women and compared the text processor s results with a manual
chart review. They confirmed significant agreement between the automated and manual reviews using
a kappa test, which determines whether two operations doing the same thing do it equally well. A
significant p value for this test confirms that the automated chart review is as effective as the manual
one.
After these data were prepared, they performed chi square tests and logistic regression analyses to
assess differences between genders and the role gender plays in the development of PTSD. Of the
women, 22% screened positive for PTSD, and for men, 33% did. The chi square test returned a p
value of 0.002, meaning the rates were significantly different. Taking it one step

Japan s Pop Culture
The author s main idea is that The challenge to the industry in Japan is finding enough young people
willing and able to create and export Japan s products of popular culture, while the challenger in
America is creating an audience that will continue to consume those products as it ages. When he saw
his friend tried to make her daughter stop crying with Totoro, he thought there is something. He also
realized that many of his American friends have a copy of Miyzaki films in their living room after
that. But two questions occurred. Why Japan? And why now? So he decided to take interviews to

The Power Of The English Nation
In an 1839 Speech to Parliament, Palmerston elucidated how the interests of the English nation was
the polar star of his policies, and should remain the primary guiding principle for those at the helm of
British politics. It was through defining and propelling British interest abroad that Palmerston was
able to gain attention verging on notoriety within domestic politics, not through his image within his
own party, or within Commons debate, but through using foreign policy to rally public support.
Palmerston was able to use foreign policy to advance his standing domestically through making the
British interest abroad a primary issue. He did this by moulding his Patriotic image in the newspapers
to highlight his devotion to British concerns. It is thus unsurprising that Lord John Russell famously
remarked that his [Palmerston s] heart always beat for the honour of England .2

Character Analysis Of Silence Of The Lambs
Silence of the Lambs focuses on two main characters with problematic mental disorders: Hannibal
Lector and Buffalo Bill. Both of these characters appear to have anti social personality disorder
(ASPD). Based on diagnostic criteria from the DSM 5, significant impairments must be present in
personality functioning as well as interpersonal functioning. This can be present in either identity or
self direction. These ideas of self functioning are focused on personal gratification from goals and self
esteem, and result from personal gain, power, or pleasure. This characteristic is present in both
characters, as they feel a sense of pleasure and gain from killing their victims. Hannibal Lector would
eat body parts of his victims, and Buffalo Bill would collect the skin of his victims. This also
demonstrates the characters failing to conform to lawful, ethical behavior. Next, interpersonal
functioning impairments are present in empathy or intimacy. Empathy is the lack of feelings or
remorse for others, which is vividly seen in Hannibal Lector s scenes throughout the movie. For
example, after Lector has killed the police officers in his cell, he stands around, swaying as music
plays, content with what he has just done, instead of feeling bad or guilty about the murders. In
Buffalo Bill s home, the senator s daughter is seen trapped a well like structure, screaming for help.
Meanwhile, Buffalo Bill acts oblivious to her suffering and is not affected or remorseful about it. The
DSM 5 also describes those affected by antisocial personality disorder as having pathological
personality traits in antagonism and disinhibition. While antagonism has several defining
characteristics, callousness and hostility are present throughout the movie, as well as disinhibition
characterized by risk taking behaviors. The other evident qualifications include these expressions not
understood as being normative, not due to the effects of substance or medications, and the characters
being over eighteen years old. The only symptom that is not apparent in the movie is whether or not
these impairments are stable across time and consistent across situations. It is unknown how long
Hannibal Lector and Buffalo Bill had symptoms of

Cause And Effect Of Terrorism
Kabooom! The explosion erupts from a busy and crowded street, the windows are shattered, hot fiery
debris flies, the desperate and pleading cries of children, adults, and elderly are so loud you could hear
them for miles. Many of these unlucky people just became victims of a type of extreme crime,
terrorism. Terrorism is a great extreme that threatens the safety of America and American citizens
everyday. The threat is so serious it has caught the attention of the national and international
governments, impacted the lives of millions of people, and is growing more dangerous as technology
advances.
According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation,
Terrorism is the calculated use of unlawful force or violence, or the threat of unlawful force or
violence, against person or property for purposes of intimidation, coercion or ransom in the pursuit of
goals that are generally political, religious, or ideological . (What is Terrorism?)
Terrorism attacks impact thousands of people every year. These extreme, unnecessary attacks are
responsible for copious amounts of physical and emotional issues.
These traumatizing attackers, or terrorists, create a great sense of fear throughout the entire
population. These extreme criminals use a variety of extreme weapons that can cause great
catastrophe. A few examples of terrorist weapons and attack methods include but are not limited to the

Rick Stone s Dance Band played a variety of different genres from the 1960 s music stockade of tunes.
They played Ob La Di, Ob La Da from the Beatles, instruments used was the drums, bongos, piano,
acoustic guitar, horns, vocals, and saxophone. The tempo of the song was moderato and the meter was
quadruple. The song was polyphonic in texture with a repetition in form. The fact the sound blended
well with the vocals and the instruments made me want to throw on hippie clothes and sway my arms
like I was swimming. From Motown Tears of a Clown by Smokey Robinson the instruments played
drums, bassoon, piano, horns, and vocals. The tempo was moderato, quadruple meter, and polyphonic
in texture. This song if you take away the instruments would be acapella with a lead singer and back
up singers. For the Psychedelic Rock, Rick Stone s Band played Break on through to the Other Side
by The Doors. The instruments used were the keyboard bass, drums, electric guitar, and vocals. The
tempo was accelerando because it started out slow and sped up when the vocals got louder. The song
is polyphonic in texture and the vocals were word painting making you want to bust through that wall
to the other side. The Roots genre was represented Born on the Bayou by Creedence Clearwater
Revival. The instruments used were the piano, guitar, drums, and vocals. The tempo was a moderato
with a polyphonic texture with a consonance harmony, which provided the image of the movie the
Waterboy every time I hear that song. Rick Stone s band represented Folk Rock by playing Mrs.
Robinson by Simon and Garfunkel. Major chords are strummed on acoustic guitars and with vocals.
The harmony is dissonance and the tempo was

The Conversion Of Roman Emperor
Nathan Little
HY 103
11/7/2014
Research Paper
The conversion of Roman Emperor, Constantine, marked the start of a reform that would change
Rome forever. A once pagan society, Rome was one of the last to grasp the Christianity concept. The
start of Christianizing Rome began with two of Jesus disciples, Peter and James, as well as the apostle
Paul in the Roman province of Antioch during the first century ( New Women of Color Study Bible
1742). From this, Christianity spread all over the province, by the time it got to Rome it was not
widely practiced. It wasn t until the reign of Constantine that Christianity took its place as the empires
forefront religion. Since Rome was known for its worship and idolizing of gods, how and for what
reasons did Constantine transform his subjects beliefs? According to authors, Ramsay MacMullen,
John Curran, and A.H.M. Jones, a number of tactics were used to sway the masses minds. Use of
coercion, money, and campaigns aided Constantine s questionable Christian cleanse .
During the reign of Constantine, cash was quite a factor in conversion of the people. As described by
Ramsay MacMullen, There [was] also an element familiar only from the time of Constantine s reign
forward: imperial cash gifts, some of them quite gigantic (MacMullen 88). These particular cash gifts
were used mainly for church growth. In order to create a steady base of believers Constantine
permitted the enticement of followers by way of church officials. Just as

Hybrid Types Of Hybrid Electric Vehicles
Full Hybrid Transmission System 1 FULL HYBRID DESCRIPTION Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV)
differentiates from basic electric vehicles (EV) through their use of two power sources. The purpose of
having two power sources is to utilize the properties of both the electric component and combustion
engine to create a vehicle that s more efficient and less environmentally damaging. Different types of
hybrid systems utilise different properties of the power sources through compromise, allowing better
performance for the vehicles specifications. Full Hybrids, considered the most fuel efficient, can
automatically swap between series, parallel and full electric modes (further explained below) allowing
the vehicle to run at full utilization and economy through different uses, such as in traffic, highway
driving and racing. Examples of full hybrid vehicles include that of the Toyota Prius and many of
Toyota s Synergy Drive Hybrid range. Series powertrains refer to using an electric motor to rotate the
wheels, whilst the alternate power source drives an on board generator which essentially increases the
reliability of the electric motor without directly powering the wheels. Unlike series mode, in parallel
mode both power sources are used to provide power to the wheels. This can be configured in a wide
variety of ways by alternating the use of full electric or full combustions, or having different wheels
powered by different sources, i.e. front wheels electric drive and back wheels

The Murder Of The Manson Family By Timothy Dwight
A murderer is normally defined by the psychological attributes that define him or her. These killers
often suffer from a psychotic delusion that forces them to commit their horrific crimes. However,
those who are pronounced sane and rational have a moral conviction that drives them to kill. It is this
principle that separates the average murder from the psychotic sadists that believes in what he or she
does. Charles Manson, leader of the Manson Family, believed in the apocalyptic war of Helter Skelter,
the uprising of blacks and the mass genocide of whites (Whitehead). Manson s firm conviction about
Helter Skelter separates him from other criminals who commit their crimes out of insanity. In Travels

Due to his hormonal deficiency, Leopold became socially reclusive, often not talking to anyone. His
counterpart, Loeb, was handsome and societal person. However, he possessed a demonical side, the
love for the life of crime. Although the Beadle and Loeb and Leopold lived in different eras, the
attributes that define the murderers are still the same. Whereas Loeb and Leopold focus on a
philosophical conundrum, Beadle is faced with a moral conundrum. However, these characters share a
common dilemma, such as social repression, that emulates the personality of a murderer. It is these
ideals and motivations that exemplify the motivation and belief system that drive a person to kill. As
such, these stories are commendable examples that embody the true crime genre. The aftermath of the
Revolutionary War brought freedom to the colonies, but also caused a brief economic collapse.
Beadle, accustomed to a luxurious lifestyle, would rather face death than be considered part of the
lower class. Dwight acknowledges Beadle s pride as the source of condemnation. Dwight states, When
he [Beadle] saw his circumstances reduced so as to threaten him with a necessary and humiliating
change...pride prompted him...in a sullen hostility against God and man... (49). The demotion into a
different class status frightened Beadle, thus igniting his sense of pride. Beadle felt that he could not

The Texas Revolution
The Texas Revolution is a historical war that began in October of 1835 and ended in April 1836. Even
before the war began, there existed hostilities between the groups of colonists and the official forces.
This was culminated with the by the political and social differences that fueled the revolution. The
conflict was majorly witnessed between the Mexican rulers and the Anglo American residents of
Texas (Tshaonline.org, 2015). Several accounts have been given by various eyewitnesses on the events
of the Texas Revolution. To begin with Enrique Esparza, who was a truck gardener at Nagalistor. It is
recognized that he was more confident in his stories and would go into details to express his ideas. He
gives a step by step recollection of the events. He was 8 years old at the time of the battle, and his
father was a defender in the war. The defenders were the 150 soldiers who remained behind at Alamo

He led them into attacking Texas. The difference is that of them all, only Filisola mentions the capture
of Santa Anna, which shows that he knows more of it than the others. Of all the six claims made by
the above mentioned eye witnesses, Felix Nunez s account seems to be more eligible. This is because
he participated in the fight, and at his age he was able to understand most if not all, the events of the
fight. His account has a better recollection and has same references as other historical accounts of the
Revolution. What I can conclude from the fall of Alamo is that if the city had stayed behind as one and
fought against the enemy, they would have won. We can see from the only 150 men left behind who
were able to guard the walls for 4 days while surrounded by thousands of enemies. It, therefore,
marked an important chapter in history as America will forever remember the fearless soldiers

How Does Photography Shape Society
Photography has shaped society in many ways. It doesn t just serve the purpose of entertainment and
enlightenment; it also makes society aware of issues and events the world faces on a daily basis. In
this case documentary photography has not just made people all over the globe aware of these issues;
it also enforces the power of persuasion upon some to make a difference in society. Photographs create
a sense of realism and truth. Words can explain and create a mental picture in the minds of readers or
listeners, but images and documentary photographs connect us better with individuals, nationally and
even internationally. These photographs have the power to show people the similarities of the human
conditions around the world.
The year 1968 in America was a year full of turmoil and political uprising. Thus it was the pivotal
year of the sixties, when all of the nation s actions and impulses towards violence, idealism, diversity
and inequality peaked to produce the greatest possible hope and at the same time the worst despair.
The rest of the world also watched USA and South Africa struggle in the war for peace and freedom. It

Analysis Of The Book By Alex Haley
1) Alex Haley wrote the book due to the several interviews he had with Malcolm X. Malcolm is
technically the author of the book due to the fact that those are his words and that Malcolm X narrates
the novel . 2) The difference between the two is that a biography is the writing of ones life written by
another individual in third person. A autobiography is the writing of ones life written by that same
individual and/or protagonist in first person. 3) Malcolm X did not know his biological father because
his father was killed in 1931 by white supremacists. Malcolm was at the young age of 6 and had little
memory of his father. 4) Skin color and hair texture had a major impact on the family and in the
society itself. Due to the fact that Malcolm ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Miss Maude Atkinson Character Analysis
Miss Maudie Atkinson
Maudie Atkinson is an often overlooked character in the classic novel To Kill a Mockingbird. She is
often described as open minded, and outspoken. She shaped the Finch children in many ways
throughout their childhood. In many ways she was a moral guide to the children. She was open
minded, would tell it like it is, and try not to let the world drag her down.
Miss Maudie in many ways was an open minded character. While most folks in Maycomb were of to
watch the trial Miss Maudie was sad because she knew that Tom would be convicted because he was
black and she knew it was wrong ( Lee 289). She also talks of how they made a steep in the right
direction. Unlike most members of the county Miss Maudie sees people as people, no matter their
background. When the church ladies begin complaining of colored folks being upset about the ...

Miss Maudie does not let the world drag her down. When Foot Washer Baptists use scripture to

The Genocide In Rwanda
Rape itself is a sensitive topic, although it was desensitized by the Hutu men after they raped
approximately 250,000 women (Brysiewicz et al. 2). The genocide in Rwanda was devastating,
causing problems with deeper roots than a normal war. Not only were there upwards of 1 million
deaths, a whole community was destroyed and corrupted by HIV/AIDS. Rape was such a driving
force of the genocide because the Tutsi women were sexually sweeter, and it allowed the community
to feel destroyed (Brysiewicz et al. 3). Rape babies serve as constant reminder of the tragedy; the
effects are everlasting and people slowly died from HIV/AIDS, as well as social isolation. This source

assume they are a slut or do not appreciate modern marriage. Social isolation occurs among these
women and their life is practically ruined (Brysiewicz et al. 3). Men look down on women who are
infected with HIV/AIDS because they are unclean. They would not want to run the risk of getting
infected as well. Many Rwandan men also do not appreciate condoms as much as people in other parts
of the world. When they marry they want to have kids and want sex to be a sacred thing when they
first marry, as that is a common custom in Rwandan culture. Also, many of the rape victims had
children as a result of rape. This restricted them even more to marrying because that had to care for a
child and the male would have not liked that the child was not

Alice In Wonderland Comparative Essay
Whether or not the adaptation of Tim Burton s Alice in Wonderland is more engaging than the original
novel by Lewis Carroll, both still use similar structural elements that set the reader/viewers mind on
the text at hand. The inclusion of a stronger plot provided by the visual text enhances the viewers
understanding, especially for a young audience. A way that Tim Burton s text is more engaging is that
children, being younger and less mature are more likely to be drawn to view a visual text that s much
simpler set of characters and be able to understand them better. On the other hand, Lewis Carroll s text
is also going to engage a younger audience with the inclusion of descriptive language. Children are

engage viewers equally. Similar structural elements such as an introduction, problem, solution and a
conclusion that contain similar content that would make both of them similarly engaging. Reason
being that because they have the similar events that fit into the same portions / sections that would
make the reader engaged. The visual aspects of both texts are what make each text complete as in the
written version of the book you have smaller picture that assist the conveyance of the story that is
trying to be explained. On the other hand, you have the visual text that solely relies on the use of
visual aspects to convey the message, and uses words / speech as an assistant to the visual part of the

Religious Conflict Of Dante s Inferno
Jessica Gay World Literature Dr. Schott 9 November 2014 Religious Conflict in Dante s Inferno
Critics Daniel Tompsett and Donald Winchester and literary scholar Nicole Rudick have argued that
Dante s Inferno is a dark and hopeless telling of how we are all relegated to sin and lack the will or
righteousness to turn from sin and temptation. Tompsett and Winchester state that, The placement of
living figures in each section was a judgment and a condemnation, albeit subjective, on both history
and the people he knew (Tompsett). They both agree that Dante is painting a picture of the dredges of
society and the torture that they must endure as a result of their inability to turn from sin. They also
quote scholar David H. Higgins to say that Dante arguably believed he was writing a gospel to convert
his recalcitrant age (Tompsett). Scholar and critic Nicole Rudick confirms this portrayal of dismal
hopelessness with her comment, Dante created a rigid view of good and evil, showing no mercy for
those who did not repent during their lifetimes and sparing no one in his accounting of misdeeds, vice,
immorality, and generally inappropriate comportment (Rudick 29). It is my opinion that the
aforementioned scholars and critics are missing Dante s point. When I read the poem I am overcome
with quite the opposite view. I believe that a better way to interpret Dante s poem is to consider that he
was asking each of us to reflect on our waywardness and sin and to come to the

  • 2. My Experience In Community College It never crossed my mind that both my academic life and the privilege to attend USC would ever be in jeopardy. At first, I believed that my transition from a community college into a 4 year institution would essentially be a walk at the park. Unfortunately, to my dismay, I was wrong. I underestimated the level of work and effort that was required out of me from this university in order to be successful. Instead, I overestimated my abilities and trusted my poor sense of judgement. This mentality consequently stunted my potential to perform at my very best which led to my downfall. As a result, I found myself in a very peculiar situation that I had never been in before nor ever experienced. I found myself at the brink of academic disqualification and on the verge of having my dreams disappear right before my eyes. Once I realized that I had basically lied to myself on how to properly handle my academics and new life at USC was when my troubles began to manifest themselves. One of the main reasons my work fell below acceptable standards was due to my extreme lack of confidence. This all began when I started to not comprehend the material that was being presented to me in my classes. Everything was moving too fast and I couldn t keep up. Unlike the community college courses that I had taken the year before which were on average longer than an hour, allowed me take my time understanding the material. But here at USC I was exposed to 50 minute long lectures that where too short ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. How Does Truman Capote Use Syntax In The In Cold Blood Truman Capote s In Cold Blood recounts the brutal murder of the Clutter family on November 15, 1959. However, Capote does not just detail the murder; he dramatizes it by shifting the focus from the victims to the culprits. Through his use of syntax, diction and appeals to pathos, Capote achieves his purpose of evoking sympathy in his audience for murderers Richard Dick Hickock and Perry Smith. The way in which Truman Capote utilizes syntax throughout the novel gives insight to the true character of the murderers. Following the murder, Perry Smith recalls, certain sounds returned a silver dollar rolling across a floor, boot steps on hardwood stairs, and the sounds of breathing, the gasps, the hysterical inhalations of a man with a severed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Capote excellently creates sympathy through his use of syntax by incorporating subordinate elements into his writing, evolving his pace from smooth to staccato, and using syntax styles that mimic the character s individuality. He also made crucial choices in vocabulary and grammar that contributed to the sincerity and intent of the character at hand. Lastly, Capote stresses the loving home lives of the murderers, evoking a sense of warm heartedness in the reader. His use of diction, syntax and appeals to pathos in order to create sympathy for the murderers is effective in that it provoked the audience to question the true motives of the murderers. Capote depicts the cold blooded culprits, Perry more so than Dick, as honorable men; this evokes sympathy in the reader, for the loving, caring, respectful nature both Dick and Perry exude would not be found in a brutal murderer. This leaves the reader is disbelief, provoking him to then question the good and evil within himself, wondering if he too will suffer a similar fate to that of Dick Hickock and Perry ... • 6. Reflection About Happiness When I was around nine years old I lived in California. It was nothing fancy; we lived in a standard house and I attended the elementary school I was zoned to. I was in the choir, too. The choir was, if my memory does not fail me, a combination of fourth, fifth, and sixth graders. That year the teacher had decided to use the song Happiness from the Broadway musical You re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. While it was not a very good rendition of the piece, it stayed with me throughout the years. For a long time I believed that happiness could be found in objects, in buying plastic things that I would throw away a year later. But the song s catchy and meaningful lyrics stayed in the back of my mind, providing me with a gentle reminder that my happiness did not necessarily have to come from owning things. Despite popular belief, happiness is not something that is bought. Happiness is not palpable. Up until a year ago, I believed that in order to be truly happy a person had to have massive amounts of money and materialistic products that did nothing to make them happy. Though that may be the case for some, I found that happiness is not often found in the amount of clothes a person has, or the price tag of their home or car. Happiness is not measured in dollars, or how many properties a person owns, or even how much their house is worth. Happiness, to me, is a feeling that is found in people, memories and moments. When I think of the word happy I see my grandparent s house. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Morality Is A Big Theme Throughout The Book Les Miserables C project Legality versus morality was a big theme throughout the book Les Miserables. Two of the main main characters, Javert and Jean Valjean conflict on that issue many times. Jean Valjean is a man of his morals rather than the law, whereas Javert is strictly about the law, and nothing else. Both of these characters face many legal and moral issues throughout the book. Jean Valjean looks into his morals when he is faced with a dilemma. The first time that this becomes apparent is the beginning of the book, when we learn why he is in jail. Valjean was faced with jail time because his family was struggling and starving and he thought is was morally okay to steal bread for his family even though it was illegal. Valjean stealing the bread even though it was illegal, but because his family needs it his morals say that it is okay for him to do so, showing legality versus morality. Another thing that Valjean does that demonstrate this theme is that when Javert tells Valjean(when he is mayor and going under the name of Madeleine) that someone has been caught under his name. If he decides to do nothing he will then face no legal troubles any more, but because of his morals he decides the right thing to do is to go to the court where this trail is taking place, and say that he is the real Valjean. He think it is immoral to let this man suffer for his actions, so he decides to reveal himself. Javert is the opposite of Valjean, and relies heavily on the legality side. In the ... Each of the inquiry cycles had a different authentic context and topic focus and each session involved links to reading programme (Appendix ?). Although text structure and topic knowledge was not an explicit focus of the intervention, it is recognised as an essential foundation of expert writing. Businesses should know expectations of the society and then manage their behavior and actions to yield results that address those expectations. The implementation of corporate social responsibility plan by an organization is an honor to humanity and nature. CSR discourages organizations from engaging in activities that threaten the life of people affected by its operations. An example is waste management strategies a company puts in place to ensure an appropriate disposal of by products. Waste materials can pose health dangers such as cancer, contamination of water and food which may result in illnesses or even death of community members. Additionally, natural resources such as forests and water are threatened by selfish strategies aimed at realizing financial performance without consideration of social responsibilities of the firm. CSR also encourages organizations to behave and act in a manner that promotes values of the community which they are embedded (International Conference on Economics and Management Engineering, 2014). Alexander P. (2015) argues that business ethics should not be sacrificed on the altar of profit maximization. It is the interest of shareholders to get more returns from their ... With funding from the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs and the National Institute of Health, Haskell et al. set out to contribute to a growing body of research on gender differences. They obtained 1129 electronic medical records (1032 men, 197 women) from the VA Connecticut Health Care System where veterans are screened annually for PTSD. Because these data came in the form of text, Haskell et al. used a text processor to parse through the doctors notes and determine whether a patient had tested positive for PTSD. To assure the text processor was accurate, they randomly sampled 25 medical records for both men and women and compared the text processor s results with a manual chart review. They confirmed significant agreement between the automated and manual reviews using a kappa test, which determines whether two operations doing the same thing do it equally well. A significant p value for this test confirms that the automated chart review is as effective as the manual one. After these data were prepared, they performed chi square tests and logistic regression analyses to assess differences between genders and the role gender plays in the development of PTSD. Of the women, 22% screened positive for PTSD, and for men, 33% did. The chi square test returned a p value of 0.002, meaning the rates were significantly different. Taking it one step ... The Power Of The English Nation In an 1839 Speech to Parliament, Palmerston elucidated how the interests of the English nation was the polar star of his policies, and should remain the primary guiding principle for those at the helm of British politics. It was through defining and propelling British interest abroad that Palmerston was able to gain attention verging on notoriety within domestic politics, not through his image within his own party, or within Commons debate, but through using foreign policy to rally public support. Palmerston was able to use foreign policy to advance his standing domestically through making the British interest abroad a primary issue. He did this by moulding his Patriotic image in the newspapers to highlight his devotion to British concerns. • 19. Character Analysis Of Silence Of The Lambs Silence of the Lambs focuses on two main characters with problematic mental disorders: Hannibal Lector and Buffalo Bill. Both of these characters appear to have anti social personality disorder (ASPD). Based on diagnostic criteria from the DSM 5, significant impairments must be present in personality functioning as well as interpersonal functioning. This can be present in either identity or self direction. These ideas of self functioning are focused on personal gratification from goals and self esteem, and result from personal gain, power, or pleasure. This characteristic is present in both characters, as they feel a sense of pleasure and gain from killing their victims. Hannibal Lector would eat body parts of his victims, and Buffalo Bill would collect the skin of his victims. This also demonstrates the characters failing to conform to lawful, ethical behavior. Next, interpersonal functioning impairments are present in empathy or intimacy. Empathy is the lack of feelings or remorse for others, which is vividly seen in Hannibal Lector s scenes throughout the movie. For example, after Lector has killed the police officers in his cell, he stands around, swaying as music plays, content with what he has just done, instead of feeling bad or guilty about the murders. In Buffalo Bill s home, the senator s daughter is seen trapped a well like structure, screaming for help. Meanwhile, Buffalo Bill acts oblivious to her suffering and is not affected or remorseful about it. The DSM 5 also describes those affected by antisocial personality disorder as having pathological personality traits in antagonism and disinhibition. While antagonism has several defining characteristics, callousness and hostility are present throughout the movie, as well as disinhibition characterized by risk taking behaviors. The other evident qualifications include these expressions not understood as being normative, not due to the effects of substance or medications, and the characters being over eighteen years old. The only symptom that is not apparent in the movie is whether or not these impairments are stable across time and consistent across situations. A once pagan society, Rome was one of the last to grasp the Christianity concept. The start of Christianizing Rome began with two of Jesus disciples, Peter and James, as well as the apostle Paul in the Roman province of Antioch during the first century ( New Women of Color Study Bible 1742). From this, Christianity spread all over the province, by the time it got to Rome it was not widely practiced. It wasn t until the reign of Constantine that Christianity took its place as the empires forefront religion. Since Rome was known for its worship and idolizing of gods, how and for what reasons did Constantine transform his subjects beliefs? According to authors, Ramsay MacMullen, John Curran, and A.H.M. Jones, a number of tactics were used to sway the masses minds. Use of coercion, money, and campaigns aided Constantine s questionable Christian cleanse . During the reign of Constantine, cash was quite a factor in conversion of the people. As described by Ramsay MacMullen, There [was] also an element familiar only from the time of Constantine s reign forward: imperial cash gifts, some of them quite gigantic (MacMullen 88). Hybrid Types Of Hybrid Electric Vehicles Full Hybrid Transmission System 1 FULL HYBRID DESCRIPTION Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV) differentiates from basic electric vehicles (EV) through their use of two power sources. The purpose of having two power sources is to utilize the properties of both the electric component and combustion engine to create a vehicle that s more efficient and less environmentally damaging. Different types of hybrid systems utilise different properties of the power sources through compromise, allowing better performance for the vehicles specifications. Full Hybrids, considered the most fuel efficient, can automatically swap between series, parallel and full electric modes (further explained below) allowing the vehicle to run at full utilization and economy through different uses, such as in traffic, highway driving and racing. Examples of full hybrid vehicles include that of the Toyota Prius and many of Toyota s Synergy Drive Hybrid range. Series powertrains refer to using an electric motor to rotate the wheels, whilst the alternate power source drives an on board generator which essentially increases the reliability of the electric motor without directly powering the wheels. Unlike series mode, in parallel mode both power sources are used to provide power to the wheels. This can be configured in a wide variety of ways by alternating the use of full electric or full combustions, or having different wheels powered by different sources, i.e. front wheels electric drive and back wheels ... These killers often suffer from a psychotic delusion that forces them to commit their horrific crimes. It is this principle that separates the average murder from the psychotic sadists that believes in what he or she does. Charles Manson, leader of the Manson Family, believed in the apocalyptic war of Helter Skelter, the uprising of blacks and the mass genocide of whites (Whitehead). Whereas Loeb and Leopold focus on a philosophical conundrum, Beadle is faced with a moral conundrum. It is these ideals and motivations that exemplify the motivation and belief system that drive a person to kill. As such, these stories are commendable examples that embody the true crime genre.
