Research on the Cell Cycle of an Onion Root Tip
Introduction:
Cell cycle is a series of sequenced events in a Eukaryotic (a cell with a nucleus and membrane
bounded organelles) from its origin until its division to produce two daughter cells. There are different
forms of cell division: mitosis: an asexual division that produces daughter nuclei with the exact copies
of the parent nuclei and Meiosis; cell division that reduces the number of chromosomes to produce
specialized cells called gametes (sex cells) that produces half the number of chromosome of the parent
cell. Cell cycle is divided in three major steps: interphase, mitosis, and cytokinesis. During interphase
step, the cell produces proteins particular cells need to function properly. Interphase is separated into
three phases: G1 phase where most cell s organelles duplicate leading the cell to grow and expand,
Synthesis phase where the DNA in the chromosome replicate, and G2 phase where the proteins are
synthesized preparing mitosis for cell division. Due to the numerous activities going on, the cell
spends a lot of time in interphase. Next major step of the cell cycle is the mitotic (M) phase, during
which the cell splits into two distinct cells, often called daughter cells . Mitosis is accomplished during
four stages: prophase, metaphase, anaphase and telophase. During prophase, the replicated
chromosomes condense, so they can move around freely, nuclear envelopes, the membrane that
surrounds the nucleus scatters, and spindle protein structures called

Organizational Structure
Organizational Structure
Google is one of the largest and well known companies in the technology industry. They have been
known for their search engine for many years now. Also, Google has expanded their business into
several other areas in technology from smart phones, tablets, android, and business software. Google s
search engine is known for reliably getting its users the information they want. One unique aspect that
Google has is its business organizational structure is that it is flat and formed up into project teams,
unlike most businesses.
Google has an organizational structure which is different from most companies. It is made up of many
stockholders like most companies, however, the founders Sergey ... Show more content on

You can be serious without a suit. Great just is not good enough. These ten principles are a much laid
back atmosphere, not top down, approach to the structure of a company. However, this is the way Brin
and Page want Google to be organized and works well for the company. This is a very democratic and
simple way to design a company.
The way Google has structured its management and divided the stock has put Brin and Page in a
position to which they will be able to retain most of the power of the company aside from
stockholders, whereas management will remain flat under them. The questions that the other
stockholders have about the way the company is structured will not have an effect on the future of
Google. Stockholders will have very little say in the decisions of how to run the company.
Google faces a large amount of competition in the technology industry, but with their management
style believe that they can keep the best and brightest people. This is a company believes in teamwork
and being able to keep everyone happy, not just the customers. This will enable them to keep workers
who enjoy their jobs and want to put their full effort into making Google the best company in tech.
Brin and Page are very determined to not only keep up with other companies in the industry but also
to surpass them in all areas of technology that Google competes in. However, Brin does believe that a
company tends to self destruct when they are obsessed with their competition.

Mayella Ewell Have Too Much Power Dbq Essay
There are many definitions of power but my definition of power is to rule over, or to have strength.
The plot of this story is about what powers do Mayella Ewell have, and need to gain. The thesis
statement states that Mayella gets made fun of for her class, and gender, but because of her race, she
has the right, and power to stand up for herself. For instance, Mayella lacks power because of her
social class, and she lacked this power because of her,and her family lived behind the town garbage
dump (Doc. A) . There are Several reasons she gets treated badly, including this quote stating while
Tom was giving his Testimony, they realized that Mayella was probably the most loneliest person in
the world (Doc.E) . She was getting angry when she finally says won t answer a word you say, long as

C) . So in conclusion Mayella got treated very badly, and finally got tired of it, and stood up for
herself. Third, Mayella lacks power also, because she is a female, and they think little of her. Mayella
Ewell was beaten savagely by someone who led almost exclusively with his left. This shows that
because she s a woman she gets easily taken advantage of like she s nothing.(Doc.B) . Then she says
She never kissed a grown man before. this shows that she has no contact,or relationships with men.
(Doc.B). Lastly she says except when nothing;said Mayella I said he does tollable which means
Mayella is holding back what she really wants to say about her father.(Doc B.). So in conclusion there
are several ways that Mayella gets mistreated because of gender. However,Mayella does have power
for her race. She shows power in chapter eighteen when she says won t answer a word you say, long as
you keep mocking me (Doc.C). In the next document it says that the assumption of negroes being

I evaluated the information in the document above based upon Moon s (2013) nine measures to
consider in comprehensive gifted education program. I think that FCCPS does a considerably good job
addressing these nine guidelines. However, I believe they should consider more non standardized
materials and data while considering students for identification.
1. Multiple assessments should be given to represent the categories of giftedness identified in the
district s definition (Moon, 2013, p.133).
According to the FCCPS definition of giftedness, the will screen to identify and to appropriately place
student with specific aptitudes and achievement in the pertinent and academically advances programs

Academic Aptitude assessments, or the average of their scores must be between the 93rd and 99th
percentiles. FCCPS uses multiple assessments to test for SAA in reading and math including: SAGES,
Raven, STAR Math, STAR Reading, CogATs, and the SOLs (FCCPS, Local Plan for the Education of

Marcel Duchamp s Fountain
Marcel Duchamp s, Fountain {1917}, is a readymade installation which undermines the conventional
practices of art making and display, challenging notions and rejecting the classical aesthetic. Marcel
Duchamp {1887 1968}, was a French artist who broke down the boundaries between works of art and
everyday objects. His mockery for conventional aesthetic standards led him to devise his famous
ready mades, proclaiming an artistic revolution. The term ready made came to label mass produced
everyday objects taken out of their usual context and then becomes a work of art through the choice or
assistance of the artist. Fountain , is the most infamous example of Duchamp s ready mades and was
widely seen as an icon of twentieth century art. The

ability to carry out day to day tasks. Bipolar disorder is a serious disorder effecting millions of adult in
America today. Ives Deliperi, Howells, Stein, Ernesta, and Horn (2013) conducted a study to test the
effects of mindfulness based cognitive therapy in twenty three people diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
The results of the study show mindfulness based cognitive therapy decrease emotional regulation and
reduces anxiety in patients with bipolar disorder. Nevertheless, fails to show a solid validity in the

Little Seamstress Perspective
The context for my narrative fiction is an added chapter in the perspective of the little seamstress. It is
set before the last chapter of the book (page 164) begins. It has connections with the original story,
continuing its elements, characters, settings and is directly following the events occurring in the
previous chapter. In the book her perspective of her departure is not clarified, it being solely hinted by
Ma s and
Luo s interpretations. My added chapter describes her reasons as to why she left the mountain, her
abortion, her perspective of her relationship with Luo and how she had been transformed by the power
of literature. I wanted to show how she has evolved and matured, from an uneducated, uncultured,
innocent mountain girl to a mature, independent woman that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

I made this choice because I didn t want to overlap any of the events described in the last chapter.
Chose to write it in the little seamstress s perspective
My understanding of the little seamstress over the course of writing the written task changed from
thinking she still needed Luo and the people in her town, into believing and writing that she left
because she needed something for herself, something that would put her talents to use and something
that would make her become more independent. In the book, it is quite sexist, making the little
seamstress the only girl in the story and making readers think like she is this innocent, weak, mountain
girl who is unable to stand up for herself and make hard decisions. My written task proves that it takes
incredible strength to walk away from the life that she had.

The 400 Blows Directed By Francois Truffaut
Background: This film is considered a drama film and it came out in 1959 directed by Francois
Truffaut. Francois Truffaut was a successful director, screenwriter, producer, actor, and film critic and
he also was one of the founder of the French New Wave. The French New Wave was a movement
against the traditional ways that French Cinema had followed, most French cinema was more like
literature. The 400 Blows was written by Francois Truffaut and Marcel Moussy and is looked at as one
of the best French films in cinematic history. This film uncovers the injustices of the treatment of
juvenile offenders in France during that time. It was also written from inspiration from Truffaut s own

However, one part that I found incredible was the final scene and the cinematography involved in
order to make is as good as it was. This is when Antoine had run away and is on the beach looking at
the water. He had always wanted to go to the sea and this was his first time. The camera angle that
zoomed into his face highlights the dramatic moment. It was almost as if Antoine was looking directly
at us thorough the camera. I decided to do some research on this final scene and figured out that this
scene was monumental for the movie, I could understand why. The moment being captured is looked
at as Antoine being between land and sea but really being in between his past and future. This film
consisted of many interesting camera angles used to provide the audience with the best views to keep

Lucy And The American Dream Analysis
A close study of the way Lucy by Jamaica Kincaid and the characters of Seven react to their
encounters with the new world. Both stories are new immigrant literature and they both bring the past
experiences or events to the present. In the book The American Dream by Jim Cullen he questions if
the past is essential to your future or does it matter at all. Lucy is a story that describes a girl s
experience in the new world, throughout the story she dealt with a great deal of controversy when
having to adjust to the new world. The objective of this part of the book is Lucy compares everything
to a troubling episode that happened back at her home. One of Lucy s first days in the new world she
was excited to see sun shining her immediate thought was warm temperature which coming from a
tropical zone she was used to the type of weather. A rude awakening appeared when she felt the cold
air but the sun was still shining, But I did not know that the sun could shine and the air remain cold;
no one had ever told me (Kincaid 5). Throughout the story Lucy is unsatisfied with just about every
encounter with the new world, the first quote shows how differently Lucy sees the world. Lucy is
brought to the United States to be a babysitter to the children of Lewis and Mariah and go to school at
night. The family of the house was nice to Lucy, and she is surprised by this treatment saying that I
should regard them as my family and make myself at home (Kincaid 7). Another person

Identity In Elie Wiesel s Nightwood
After reading Nightwood I have been radically altered. Not in the cliché sense where one comes from
reading a book and proclaims his or her life different, but altered in the sense where I have been forced
to confront the issue of my own identity through the text itself. The idea of the human condition which
Barnes explores in the novel brings up for me more questions than answers. Do we all suffer cruelly at
the hands of this abstract notion of love? Can we reconcile, within ourselves, the notions of love,
animalism, identity and sexuality (or other cultural difference) after they are marginalized into the
realm of other? How do we step outside of an ideology produced by the hierarchical formation and
heal the wounds that we inflict on one another? For the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jeanette Winterson in her preface to Nightwood remarked The language [in Nightwood] is not about
conveying information; it is about conveying meaning. It is hard to disagree with Winterson,
especially taken in the context of Barnes not being able to communicate her feelings with people
directly; it makes sense that she would communicate her feelings indirectly via her writing. In my
attempts to explain Nightwood as a whole, that is its language, and the meaning that one can take from
such a book, I find what draws me to this piece of literature aside from its complexity and richness are
the way in which its characters, Felix Volkbein, Robin Vote, Dr. Matthew O Connor and Nora Flood
seek out one another in hopes that the one will fulfill the other s desire. For the analytical discussion
of the novel I would like to read the character Robin Vote, examine the locus of her abject, which is
that place where the meaning between Object and Subject collapses the construction of the I (read:
identity ) and allows the character to experience and occupy the space of symbolic terror as she
sleepwalks in and out of Felix and Nora s

Nursing Conflict In Nursing
Introduction
No matter where we find ourselves in life, there will always be some conflict(s) that we will need to
face. Some may be simple issues of miscommunications or more complex, involving several factors,
considerations, and implications that must be accounted for when solving the conflicts at hand.
Settings such as nursing homes, clinics, and hospitals are especially susceptible to high numbers of
conflicts of various natures due to the numerous parties involved in each environment. Nurses, face an
increased risk of getting into conflicts due to the multiple roles they could hold, such as manager,
caregiver, and instructor. According to Dr. Higazee, These roles lead to various types of interactions
among nurses and other healthcare team members, which significantly increase the probability for
conflict to arise in hospital settings among nurses (Higazee, 2015). Therefore, conflicts are not
something that can be eliminated from the lives of nurses; however, nurses can be given the skills and
techniques to manage the conflicts that do arise. Although the word conflict has a negative
connotation attached to it, there is a positive perspective that can be viewed as Finkelman (2016) says,
It can be used to improve if changes are made to address problems related to the conflict (p. 324).

The term legend is overused, often directed at individuals who are undeserving of the title. Such is not
the case for legendary boxer and humanitarian Muhammed Ali. After a long battle with Parkinson s
disease, Ali finally succumbed to complications this past week while being treated for respiratory
issues in a Phoenix hospital. He was 74 years old.
Ali s boxing career was marked by both brilliance and controversy. As a brash young pugilist, he made
his mark on the boxing world in the late 1960s through the 1970s with a record of 55 5. During this
time, he claimed the World Heavyweight title three times (a record) and fought some of the sport s
greatest fighters. Among his most dangerous opponents were Hall of Fame fighters like Sonny Liston,
Joe Frazier, George Foreman and Floyd Patterson. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

To non boxing fans, he will always be remembered as the conscientious objector who refused to enlist
for military service in Vietnam due to his Islamic beliefs. His decision riled the nation, resulting in a 3
year suspension from boxing. After resuming his boxing career, he would continue his siege on the
Heavyweight title.
Outside of the ring, Ali (born Cassius Marcellus Clay) garnered a reputation as a true humanitarian.
Even during the 20 something years he was battling Parkinson s, he traveled the world and spoke out
about poverty, racial inequality and the quest for peace throughout the world. It is in his role as an

The English renaissance was specific in its distraction with religion and the place of man in

with Henry VIII having taken the nation through the reconstruction, the nation having gone from
being Catholic to getting to be plainly Protestant, disciples of the recently framed Church of England.
Some may guarantee that the King James Bible and Cranmer s Book of Common Prayer remain as

Education For All Handicapped Children Act
These laws listed below were unfortunately put in place to fight the ignorance and blatant
discrimination disabled people were faced with. While these laws are a blessing to many, the fact that
they had to be put in place reflect terribly, but truthfully on how many people see people with
disabilities. My only hope is that one day these laws will be unnecessary, because people will start to
treat those with disabilities according to their needs.
IDEA; Individuals with Disabilities Education Act 1990
1. IDEA or Individuals with Disabilities Education, formerly known as the Education for All
Handicapped Children Act (EHA) lasted from 1970 to 1990. Then in 1990, the United States Congress
changed the title to IDEA.
2. This act was solely focused on affording children with disabilities the same opportunity of
education as children without disabilities. The act states that schools must serve the educational needs
of eligible students with disabilities; they also must evaluate students suspected of having disabilities.
This is beneficial to children who parents suspect need testing, but cannot afford testing or help.
IDEA is composed with four parts. Part A is the general provisions of the law. Part B covers aid of
education for all children with disabilities. Part C is for infants and toddlers with disabilities, this
includes children from birth to age three. Finally Part D is the national support programs. Parts A, B,

The Importance Of Student In School
In school I have always been a relatively successful student, and I was always considered one of the
smarter kids by my parents and a lot of the other students. In about sixth grade when they started to
split the grade up into certain classes for the advanced kids and the kids that weren t considered
advanced. I was in the classes with all the kids that weren t considered advanced. At the time though, I
didn t realize what they were doing or that I wasn t actually considered a smart kid by the school, I
just knew all my friends were in classes I wasn t in, and it really upset me. I got put in the classes with
a bunch of kids I didn t like, or just people I didn t know, and had never seen before. I still had the bus

year I hadn t struggled at all, and everything came relatively easy to me. It was just really easy. I knew
I wasn t a dumb kid, but up until then my parents had always had to help me. They carried me through
school, they had just been my own personal teacher and were always there if I needed any help at all.
This was definitely weird to me that I didn t need them anymore that year. About half way through the

year. He then started telling me how hard he thought it was and how he was really struggling, I just

James Joyce Research Paper
James Augustine Aloysius Joyce is well known for his many extraordinary Literature pieces. Still, to
this day he is celebrated throughout Ireland as being one of the most influential figures in Irish history.
Among his literary works, the most recognized and famous literature pieces were Dubliners, A Portrait
of an Artist as a Young Man, Ulysses, and Finnegans Wake. Very early in life, Joyce struggled with his
identity and self importance. Furthermore, Joyce publicizes these identity struggles and adolescence
challenges in his autobiographical novel, A portrait of an Artist as a Young Man. This novel introduced
his newly formed technique called the stream of consciousness. This well developed technique
indirectly allows the audience to distinguish the thoughts and feelings of the main character, Steven
Daedalus; this fictional character is an actual representation of himself. Stephen Daedalus reappears in
Joyce s masterpiece Ulysses, but depicted with more sophisticated character traits. As a young adult,
James Joyce established his own set of principles in which to follow throughout life. These Principles

A Brief Note On The Documentary Program Essay
Documentary Program Essay I have met so many people who have given me a new perspective to
look at the world, who struck me with their values and characteristics, who have become inspirations
in my stories. I would like to tell stories that reflect certain problems and bring awareness to the
society. Here is a story that I would like to explore in depth: For decades, the phenomena of human
trafficking and smuggling in China have never stopped. While poor women and children were
trafficked for sexual exploitation and adoption, many young men were voluntarily smuggled to the
West due to their belief in having a richer and better life overseas . People pay money to the
snakeheads who have connections overseas and be shipped in cargo ships: some died of suffocation
during the journey, and some were detained in prisons and deported. Fujian, a southern province, has
been a hotbed of trafficking and smuggling in China. For more than a century, Fujianese had been
moving to the West both legally and illegally. Death or bitter lives have never taken away their desires
to earn money and prestige, but they have been living a hard life that outsiders could never have
imagined, and they would never be the insiders of these western countries.

Essay about Poetry Analysis Mezzo Cammin
Mezzo Cammin
The poem Mezzo Cammin by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow explains his regretful life and his
reasoning at why he didn t live it to its full potential and how he looks at his past. It then looks to his
future as being near and bearing a huge weight down on him. The way Longfellow talks about his life
is depressing. He doesn t speak of the good accomplishments, only the things he hasn t done until he
looks back into the past and then forward at how the future may be. In the first part of the poem
Longfellow talks about his life being halfway over and everything that stopped him from really living
his life. In the very first couple of lines he says I have let the years slip from me and have not fulfilled

He describes it strangely, And hear above me on the autumnal blast The cataract of Death far
thundering from the heights. These lines are very open ended and in one way he could be speaking of
death as far away by the way he describes the thundering waterfall very high up. The reference to
height could mean its at a good distance that he can see it, but its still far away. It could also mean he
has more of his life to live up to and his regretful past doesn t mean much to him anymore because he
has his future to look forward to as he is on his metaphorical hill of life. In another view, he could be
describing death as being right around the corner and him looking right at it when he describes the
waterfall. You could look at it as him having a life threatening disease and him knowing his death is
coming soon, which could also describe the way he views his past full of regret. If he knew the end is
coming soon and he doesn t believe he fully lived his life to how he wishes, the regret is
understandable and the cataract of death makes sense in this point of view. Overall, this poem shows
the past, present, and future of the writer. His life is full of regret at points and then seems hopeful in
others. This poem could be viewed in many ways but mostly you understand it as a man who wishes
he could change his past because he knows his future is near and his life will soon be coming to an

Comparison of Ancient Mesopotamian and Egyptian Art
The artworks of Ancient Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt are both strikingly different and similar at
the same time. Consistent is the theme of serving the different gods the two cultures believed in. In
Mesopotamia the various city states each had their own protective deity, and in Egypt they sometimes
differed from one dynasty to the next. Whatever the case, with the beginning of kingdoms and
rulership came the need to justify a position of power and establish a hierarchy. And as more time
passed came also the human need to leave an impression on their world. Looking at the example of the
statues of Gudea from the Neo Sumerian period and the Temple of Ramses II from the New Kingdom
of Egypt in the 19th dynasty, will show how both rulers of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Guarding the entrance to the 100 feet tall temple are four enormous statues of the Pharaoh, who ruled

seated on his throne, wearing the double crown of Upper and Lower Egypt. Adorning the sides of the
thrones is the symbolic unification of Egypt by the Nile Gods. The whole upper body of one of the
figures is destroyed, damaged by an ancient earthquake. You can still see the remains of the torso and

Prince Amonherkhepshef, stand at his sides, almost as high as his knees, and smaller statues between
his legs are thought to represent either his daughters or lesser wives. The frieze topping the temple

James Weldon Johnson Research Paper
African American Racial Pride in James Weldon Johnson s Literary Work James Weldon Johnson
(1871 1938) was an important Black author, poet, leader, and political activist whose work was very
influential in his time. He was born in Jacksonville, Florida in 1871 to middle class parents. In a long
career he worked as a teacher, a lawyer, a diplomat and the executive officer of the NAACP (National
Association for the Advancement of Colored People). His literary works had a powerful influence on
other African American poets of the time, and those that followed him. His best known work is the
hymn, Lift Every Voice and Sing, which is considered the Negro National Anthem. He wrote many
other poems such as The Color Sergeant, To America, and The Creation. In these poems, he expresses
the emotions and thoughts of African Americans. In The Color Sergeant, he uses images and
metaphors to convey the bravery and pride of a colored American ... Show more content on

Johnson was consistently attentive to these issues throughout his life. In his autobiography, Along this
Way, Johnson states, I had in the main known my own people as individual or as groups; and now I
began to perceive them clearly as a classified division, a defined section of American society ... what
black and white meant stood out starkly. According to Carroll A. Richards, he was influenced directly
by the conditions of life for African Americans in the rural South (347). Johnson tried to bring the
determination of African Americans against these barriers to the attention of the wider world. Allan H.
Spear asserts that Johnson was a part of the movement to create a positive and vital culture rooted in
the folk experience of the Negro people (Richards 344). He accomplishes this goal in To America
through the use of symbols to express racial

Comedic Violence in The Medea, The Oresteia, and Antigone...
Comedic Violence in The Medea, The Oresteia, and Antigone
Almost no Greek tragedy escapes the use of violence. The Medea, The Oresteia, Antigone, and other
classic works of Grecian tragoidia all involve huge components of violence in many prominent places,
and for all of these stories, violent action is an integral part of the play. Medea, especially, is a
character worthy of note in this regard; her tumultuous life can be plotted accurately along a path of
aggression and passionate fits, and her bloody history lends tension and ascendance to the cathartic
events of the gripping Medea. In contrast to this turbulent streak of brutality in Grecian tragedy stands
the world of Greek comedy. Violence in comedy is just as much a part ... Show more content on

In comparison to this is Lysistrata, a comedy in which violence is not shown to be an answer that
works. In this story, however, the overarching dilemma is the existence of the Peloponnesian War. For
Euripides, violence is a question and a centerpiece of intrigue, yet it is not the root of the plot.
Aristophanes, on the other hand, chooses to investigate gender relations and the concerns of daily life
by using a hollow context of violence that ostensibly motivates the actions of the characters while
avoiding center stage as an issue of any weight in the play itself.
At first glance this analysis seems wrong: it appears that Lysistrata is very much concerned with
violence. After all, Aristophanes intended to write an anti war piece. However, while this statement is
technically true, it is only a skin deep realization. In actuality, Lysistrata herself is not anti war in the
sense of being ideologically opposed to war; she is anti war only insofar as she detests the
Peloponnesian War. And yet, although the Mede is at our gates, / You ruin Greece with mad intestine
wars. / This is my first reproach to both of you, (Aristophanes 1132) says Lysistrata to the assembled
Spartan and Athenian ambassadors. In this passage, the fiery woman establishes her stance and
proclaims that she is mainly upset over the fact that the current war is more a civil war than a war
against actual enemies. Her core

Essay On Racial Profiling
It is frequently said that the way you approach someone is the way that they get their first impression
of you. So if you come off negatively at first, that lessens the chances of a person liking you. This can
also relate to the way someone perceives what type of person you are, dependending upon looks,
clothes, and of course race.
The act of racial profiling has become more serious than ever; although this problem has been around
for centuries, racial profiling has recently gained attention in the news. You may think that the cases
broadcasted on the news are the only major cases of racial profiling and that it doesn t happen very
often, but in reality it happens quite a bit.

I never knew that there was a big social differentiation between who hung out with who dependent
upon race. To be very blunt, the ratio of black to white people in my school was about 4:1. I was a
very quiet girl especially during my sixth grade year. In seventh grade I began to open up more, but
this caused frequent altercations. As people began to know my name I recruited names such as preppy
and white girl . I found the phrase white girl to be ironic considering the fact that I am fully Hispanic.
When I corrected anyone who believed I was white, I would often get I didn t know you were
mexican, you look like you re white! . These accusations and the shocked looks on the faces of those
who knew the truth never disappeared. Being a Senior in High School and knowing most of my fellow
classmates, I still frequently get the same comments or faces of those who have never thought twice
about my race because I look white or I act white . Through the years of receiving comments like this,
I ve come to the realization that these judgements of people based upon their appearance happen all of
the time. I will admit to doing this myself and giving the same comments as I have gotten. These
racial judgements don t just come with African American or Caucasian

Characteristics Of The South African Apartheid
Black Consciousness and the defeat of the inferiority complex instilled by apartheid institutions is a
necessary precondition for progress in South Africa . (Crais, 361) The South African Reader and
Apartheid, 1948 1994 provide an abundant amount of first hand accounts that depict the clear
differences in life experience and lifestyles of the white and black South Africans. Both texts give
prime examples of what life was like under the apartheid regime from the precursors of apartheid all
the way to the end of a very divided era. Throughout apartheid, the difference between was black and
white South Africans was very apparent. Whites lived in better conditions, had better access to
resources and education as well as higher quality resources, while blacks were continually mistreated
and discriminated against.
Life as a white South African was usually pretty desirable and easy going. Apartheid Regnany in
Dubow s book describes some of the disparities between the two populations. By the end of the
decade whites, numbering less than one fifth of the total population, commanded close to three
quarters of the country s share of income. (Dubow, 99) The chapter also goes onto the describe the
kinds of things that the whites were able to acquire: pools, a three litre Ford, ranch style homes, and
maids or house boys. This displays that the quality of life was much higher for whites, with that being
side the benefits also made there way over to the black communities but they were

The Aesthetic Qualities Of A Musical Selection From Space...
Introduction From a young age, I ve had a great interest in all sorts of music. I appreciate and enjoy
listening to classical, opera, rap, hip hop, country, contemporary and Mexican music. When I signed
up for Music Appreciation, I was excited to learn more about the history of music and the instruments
used. I wanted to learn what to listen for and how to understand the different types of music. There are
many styles of music from different eras. After taking notes on a variety of listening exercises from
different eras, I understand what composers were trying to accomplish with their music. I will discuss
an influential composer and his musical time period, along with events that helped shape his career. I
will also cover a musical period that I believe to be most important to music history. I would also like
to discuss how this course has influenced the way I listen and hear music. Lastly, I will analyze the
aesthetic qualities of a musical selection from Space Odyssey: 2001.

John R Knipfing s Effects On Christianity
During the reign of Constantine I, the Roman Empire experienced great strides in religious tolerance.
While meeting together in Milan during February 313 AD, Constantine I and Licinius, Roman
emperors, came up with the religious policy for the future of the empire. This policy became known as
the Edict of Milan and forever changed the future of religion, especially Christianity. Over 1600 years
later, in January 1925, a historian named John R. Knipfing wrote an essay analyzing the religious
tolerance during Constantine s reign. This essay focused not only on the Edict of Milan, but also on
the outlook on Christianity and religion that led up to it. It is evident through the comparison of these
two documents how important primary sources such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Knipfing analyzes the atmosphere of religious tolerance during Constantine I s reign. Knipfing was an
assistant professor of European History at Ohio State University when this essay was published in
January, 1925. As Knipfing mentioned, this essay was written after World War I, which threw much of
the world into chaos. Knipfing wrote this essay as a historian, analyzing the early part of Constantine s
reign. Since this essay was published in a Catholic journal, there is the possibility the essay may be
biased in the way it looks at religion. While historians strive to be as unbiased as possible, it is almost
impossible to be able to look at everything objectively, leading to at least some bias. Additionally,
since Knipfing s essay was written over 1600 years past the time it was talking about, the essay had to
be based off of primary sources, such as the Edict of Milan. This leads to the possibility of double bias
in this essay, as both Knipfing s and his sources writings may be biased. In this essay, Knipfing begins
by discussing the constant swings back and forth between religious tolerance and intolerance.
Knipfing acknowledges that there had been multiple periods of tolerance before Constantine, but none
of them actually lasted for long. After discussing the Diocletian Persecution, which was occurred until
the time of the Edict of Milan, Knipfing begins discussing the actual edict. Knipfing spends these
pages discussing things other than the edict so readers will be able to understand how people had
looked at religion up until the edict. By giving this background information, readers are better able to
understand the significance of the edict. Additionally, Knipfing makes note of the fact that there was
probably not an actual Edict of Milan. While many people today discuss the edict, Knipfing

receiving offensive e mail per month from a co worker. These are another reasons why the employer

Techniques and practices of electronic monitoring range from recording and reviewing emails, phone
messages and internet browsing to tracking employee attendance, interactions with customers and
quality of work. Concerns about electronic monitoring fluctuate between issues of stress and
employee satisfaction, these resulting from performance and productivity practices and infringement
of privacy rights within the workplace as a consequence of surveillance and tracking of personal
communications at work. There is still a need, however, for privacy in the workplace. More than ever
before, high performance workplaces in the knowledge age need to provide workers with
opportunities for both privacy and interaction.
Workplace Privacy and Employee Monitoring As technology advances, so do the monitoring
possibilities in the workplace; as a result these possibilities will raise the privacy issue in the
workplace. Nowadays, employers can monitor and track many aspects of their employees jobs,
especially on telephones, computer terminals, through electronic and voice mail, and when employees

The Pros And Cons Of Nonviolent Resistance
No inherent difference. Reinhold Niebuhr s objections of nonviolent resistance was incoherent.
Niebuhr put forth the belief that there is no inherent moral difference between violent, and nonviolent
forms of resistance, but rather that it was a matter of degree or effectiveness. King points out that
Niebuhr s objection is distorted as there is a vast difference between nonresistance and nonviolent
resistance. Nonviolence is not having blind faith in something greater, but rather the planned and

I Had The Pleasure For Care For A Resident
Working in clinical setting was a great experience. I had the pleasure to care for a resident that was

allows us as caregivers to identify and help provide nursing interventions to an elderly that may face
these geriatric syndromes. During a SPICES assessment, we look for signs of problems during sleep,
problems eating, incontinence, confusion, as well as evidence of any falls and any possible skin
breakdown. During my assessment, I encountered many medical conditions my patient has that
supports that she is having problems with a few of the geriatric syndromes. When it comes to sleep,
my patient does not seem to sleep very well and has difficulty falling asleep. There are no signs that
my resident has any problems with her everyday feeding and eating. She is able to perform this daily
activity individually. As for having trouble with incontinence, for the most part this resident is able to

not eat or drink anything too late which prevents her from having to use the bathroom during sleep
hours. While she will not ask for help, if the need arises, she will use a bed pan. However, on rare

using the quadrant streak technique on two Trypticase Soy Agar (TSA) plates. One of the plates was
incubated aerobically and the other was incubated anaerobically, both at 37° C for twenty four hours.
Aseptic technique was used for all procedures during the unknowns exercise. All incubations during
this experiment were set at 37 °C.
On the second day of the unknowns experiment, the TSA plates were observed and their results were

color, had irregular shape, undulate margins, and umbonate elevation. The anaerobic TSA plate had
less growth, but there was still growth present; the colonies on this plate were transparent, had
irregular shape, undulate margins, and raised elevation. The largest colony from each plate was sub
cultured and prepared to be smeared onto a slide for viewing under the microscope. Once the
organism had dried, the slide was heat fixed and gram stained. The colony obtained from the aerobic
TSA plate showed gram positive bacillus and gram negative bacillus. The colony that was acquired
from the anaerobic TSA plate only had the gram negative bacillus. This showed that the gram positive
organism was an obligate aerobe and that the gram negative organism was a facultative anaerobe.

Baroque Art Depicted the Religious Tensions During that...
Art in the Baroque period was used to depict the religious tensions present at the time. Coincidentally,
the philosophy of the time also played a key role in addressing the tensions that existed during the
period. As a result of the focus on similar aspects of the society, there emerged numerous similarities
between the artwork of the time and the ideas expressed by philosophers such as Descartes and
Leibniz. It is critical to assess the views of the different philosophers in order to determine how the
artwork was similar to their perceptions of the world. This essay addresses the views of Descartes in
relation to the principles of Baroque art. In particular, the essay focuses on the works of Vermeer and
Rembrandt, seeking to determine how their art relates to the philosophical views of Descartes.
Rembrandt
Rembrandt was one of the most influential Baroque artists of the 17th century, with popular works
such as the Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Tulp, the Night Watch, and Angel Leaving Tobit and Tobias (Open
University of Kaohsiung). His success was based on the fact that his work did not go out of fashion.
The spiritual life of Holland during the Baroque period required him because he was relevant in
presenting ideas about the period in his work. Some of the most successful works of Rembrandt were
depictions of biblical stories that he presented in highly relevant detail. The painter represented the
scriptures from the Bible in the minutest detail by integrating it with his own

The End Of The Cold War
The end of the Cold War marks more than just the end of the arms race, between the Soviet Union and
the United States, it also marks the weakening of communism. Communism, the greatest enemy to the
west during the Cold War had to be put down at any cost, this meant supporting militaristic
dictatorships that were against communism. The weakening of communism, however, ignited Global
Democratic Revolutions in which the people sought to gain the power back from the government.
These revolutions were mostly centered on the year 1989, and demonstrated the will of the people to
stop the oppression of these dictators or communist parties. The Philippines were no different,
independent organizations such as JAJA and NAMFREL rallied against the militaristic dictatorship of
Ferdinand Marcos. Additionally, the intervention of the church proved to be a powerful uniting tool
for the revolution, in a catholic predominant society. Women played no small role, Corazon Aquino
challenged Marcos politically, and many were involved in public rallies. As a result, the Philippines
peacefully defeated the oppressive rule of Marcos and entered a state of Democratic stability. To bring
about the revolution, it took the combines effort of the Aquino family, individual organizations, the
church, and individual citizens. In 1983 an exiled senator Benigno Aquino returned to the Philippines
in order to oppose Marcos. Sadly, Padriac Kenney wrote that Aquino was assassinated as he stepped

The Safety Practices Of Motorcycle Accidents
Imagine the ripple effect created by losing a fellow service member, friend, or loved one due to a
motorcycle accident. Senior enlisted leaders should understand the significance of motorcycle
accidents because they have a large impact on all branches of the U.S. military. This paper will cover
the problem motorcycle accidents present to the military, discuss some of the safety practices currently
in place to reduce deaths related to motorcycle accidents, and make recommendations to help reduce
motorcycle accident deaths.
Problem
Motorcycle related deaths have a large impact on the U.S. military. The loss of a friend or loved one is
already significant, but the loss of a military member carries with it the loss of training, knowledge,
and manning to that community and branch of the military. It spans the entire service as shown when
the USS Makin Island (LHD 8) performed a burial at sea for the late Master Chief Sutton, who passed
away due to a motorcycle accident while stationed on board (Peak, 2016).
Motor vehicle accidents account for one third of the deaths among the U.S. military annually. From
1999 to 2012, there were 4,479 motor vehicle accident related deaths among members of the military,
with 25 percent attributable to motorcycle accidents (Armed Forces Health Surveillance Branch,
2013). Over that period, non motorcycle motor vehicle accidents declined while motorcycle related
accidents steadily increased, accounting for a higher percentage of deaths in motor

Sickle Cell Disease Essay
Introduction The term sickle cell disease (SCD) involves a range of disorders characterized by the
occurrence of at least one haemoglobin S (Hb S) allele and a second abnormal allele allowing
abnormal haemoglobin polymerization leading to a symptomatic disorder. Most patients often are
healthy at early stages in their life and become symptomatic later on in their life time. Fetal
haemoglobin levels decrease and haemoglobin s levels increase. Sickle cell disease is determined at
conception, when a person acquires his/her genes from the parents. Sickle cell disease cannot be
caught, acquired, or otherwise transmitted. A study carried out in 2012 by Priola and a team wrote a

The mutation of sickle cells reflects on a change in the amino acids protein which transports oxygen
into haemoglobin. This is the protein which gives red blood cells its colour and consist of two subunits
the first being the alpha subunit which is common in individual s with sickle cell disease. The second
subunit is beta this has an amino acid at position 6 instead of the glutamic acid being present. If the
beta globin gene is sickle and the other gene is normal this individual is a carrier of sickle cell disease,
this condition is known as sickle cell trait, it s a rare condition. If both the beta globin genes are sickle
then the individual has sickle cell disease, those with sickle cell trait cannot develop sickle cell
disease. This shift is the basis of all the problems that occur in people with sickle cell disease. Some
types of haemoglobin molecules such as fetal haemoglobin which is found before birth block the
interactions between haemoglobin s and deoxygenated molecules. This haemoglobin disappears
within the first year after birth. One approach to treating sickle cell disease is to rekindle production of
fetal haemoglobin. The drug, hydroxyurea induces fetal haemoglobin production in some patients with
sickle cell disease and improves the clinical condition of some people (Okam,

Desire In Thou Blind Man s Mark By Sir Philip Sidney
In Sir Philip Sidney s sonnet, Thou Blind Man s Mark, the speaker describes his personal experience
with the vice of desire. Buy expressing the abstract and hazardous nature of desire it becomes evident
that the speaker acknowledges both his disdain for the subject and his struggle to overcome it. The
initial quatrain builds the idea of the blind man s mark, known as desire, with the speaker presenting
progressively derogatory comments about it. By addressing desire as the blind man s mark the speaker
implies that those who succumb to it are unaware of themselves doing so, since blindness represents a
lack of perception. Adding to this notion, the speaker continues to call desire fond fancy s scum, and
dregs of scattered thought to engrain the fleeting an trite nature the subject possesses. This list of
insults climaxes in the final line of the quatrain, where the speaker states that the ultimate danger of
the convoluted web of will is its perpetuity, since its end is never wrought; because it spirals on
without an individuals critically analyzing their actions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The speaker s confession points to how the speaker understands why others may fall victim to desire
as well, offering a hint of solidarity. But overall, the speaker advises those tempted to avoid desire by
explaining the price he had to pay for submitting to it. The speaker describes the toll by recalling how
he gained a mangled mind and worthless ware, and uses alliteration to accentuate how he had partook
in desire in the past. The speaker mentions the ills that he has accumulated in hopes of waking those
who are asleep and oblivious to the dangers of desire, like he once

How I Went from Aching Loneliness to Blissful Solitude
It was an aching solitude. I sat in silence, ensnared within my chaotic mind while everyone s elated
voices stretched across the classroom like a contagious disease but my immunity was too study to
catch a speck of it. I was never a big fan of change, especially ones that strike you without any
warning. The transition from elementary to junior high wasn t the challenging part for me, it was the
fact that I felt alone. It never occurred to me that everything was temporary, even friendships. Initially,
going into seventh grade was absolutely petrifying, nearly all my friends was in a different T.A., while
in the other hand, I was placed in a class filled with unfamiliar faces. Everyone appeared to be
recognizable to each other, I felt as if I was an outcast, just a girl at the back of the classroom. At that
time, the most bothersome traits about me was that I was shy, reticent, and anxious. I swore there must
have been something wrong with me, how hard could it be to approach another student and simply
talk or just plainly introduce myself. Although, I attempted to be as optimistic as I possibly could, I
would still be able to be with my friends at lunch, afterschool, or parties. Another part of me that was
incommodious was that I clung onto my friends, they truthfully were extremely supportive and
entertaining people to be around, I cherished each and every one of the our memories together but
sadly, we gradually drifted apart. Instantaneously, even on the first

“Hitler Became Chancellor in January 1933 Because He Was...
Hitler became chancellor in January 1933 because he was the leader of the most popular party in
Germany How far do you agree with this opinion.
Hitler did not become chancellor in January 1933 because he was the leader of the most popular party
in Germany, it was however to do with the support of the elite that made him Chancellor. There were
other factors also such as the decline of the Weimar Republic and the economy but it was mainly to do
with the conservatives.
One factor that shows that the support of the elite was the reason that Hitler had become Chancellor
was the event of the Bamberg conference. It could be argued that this conference had changed the
ideology of the NSDAP and had made it more conservative. In the Bamberg ... Show more content on

The political violence in the run up to the election was the perfect excuse for the removal of the SPD
dominated Prussian government. President Hindenburg ordered the army to seize control; this resulted
in the new regime in Prussia to be an authoritarian one. This demonstrates how the destruction of thee
Weimar republic could have been the reason why Hitler had become the chancellor. However it did
not directly make Hitler the chancellor, while the support of the conservatives did. Although it does
show that Hitler did not become the chancellor due to the fact that Hitler did not become the
chancellor due to the fact that he was the leader of the most popular party.
The fear of a communist takeover could also show how it was due to the support of the conservatives
is the reason Hitler had become the chancellor. The KPD had seen its vote increase from 3.2million in
1928 to 5.9 million in November 1933. It was the Nazi s determination to reduce the communist
militia that caused conservatives to back Hitler. There were a number of influential industrialists and
bankers including Hjalmar Schacht, IG Farben and Gustav Krupp, who put pressure on Hindenburg to
appoint Hitler as chancellor. The reason behind why they had done this because they feared loosing
their wealth and power in the event of a communist takeover. This shows how the support of the
conservatives had led to Hitler to being chancellor, as it was them that pressurised Hindenburg

Michael Salvo Research Paper
Michael DeSalvo is pacing from customer to phone to customer again when I walk through the front
door of his beloved hair salon, Hairanoia, located in Syracuse, NY. He s used to the hustle and bustle
in his own little corner of the city; blowdryers and animated conversations all blend together in a loud,
yet comfortable harmony. This could be any salon, but I know that it isn t. I m met with a quick
handshake paired with a welcoming smile we ll be speaking whilst Michael colors a customer s hair.

tells me that she s a regular, probably long time, customer who trusts this man with her image.

In terms of social justice, he believes that we have made progress, but what s next? What have we
learned? We have afforded countless tools in the toolbox, but we need to use them correctly. To begin,
he thinks that healthcare should be available to everyone, as that is a potential root of many of the
current national and global problems. Globally, Michael urges all to be good stewards to the planet
and to each other. We have been given this incredible planet to live on and by destroying it we will
physically not be able to survive. Additionally we should reevaluate war and violence, which is too
expensive and has no value, and how it is actually affecting worldly relations. Instead of complaining
about refugees and then fighting in a war that is only creating more refugee problems, we need to
denounce greedy tendencies about what we want, and instead give people what they need to thrive in a
global society. Everyone has a piece of the puzzle, he shares, there is not one single person who has all
of the answers. Therefore, we need to work together, be active, and stay active because without social
justice there is no peace, without peace we will not

Howard Zinn s Argument Essay
Perfectly summarized in one sentence, the words And in a world of conflict, a world of victims and
executioners, it is the job of thinking people, as Albert Camus suggested, not to be on the side of the
executioners uttered by Howard Zinn in the first chapter of A People s History of the United States

strength, a well known proverb states, and there is one constant among famous quotes in that they can
be applied to almost any situation, event, or idea, for that they are always true. This particular idea
should not be excluded from that notion, considering Zinn s quote is muchly similar to the proverb s

Despite not single handedly ending prejudice with a small revolution, even the most seemingly small
results provide advancement in the road toward social and systematic innovation. One of these results
includes educating others and bringing awareness to the situation and problem at hand, so that citizens
would not be on the side of the executioners . An example of using peace to effectively spread a
message that would not only have a huge effect on obliterating the national discrimination of its time
but as well being honored and remembered for decades after would be Martin Luther King Jr s iconic
I Have A Dream speech on August 28, 1963. A century after slavery was outlawed, and nevertheless
African Americans were still regarded as less by the white American government, who allowed
discrimination, separation, and exclusion everywhere schools, water fountains, buses between the
races to be legal. Being an African American man himself, King would not tolerate this. Rather than
succumbing to violent measures in order to get his message to end racial discrimination instead, he
used words as his force and in doing so educated and inspired thousands to contribute toward
attempting to make a change in the nation. People are the product of what they are taught even the

  • 2. Research on the Cell Cycle of an Onion Root Tip Introduction: Cell cycle is a series of sequenced events in a Eukaryotic (a cell with a nucleus and membrane bounded organelles) from its origin until its division to produce two daughter cells. There are different forms of cell division: mitosis: an asexual division that produces daughter nuclei with the exact copies of the parent nuclei and Meiosis; cell division that reduces the number of chromosomes to produce specialized cells called gametes (sex cells) that produces half the number of chromosome of the parent cell. Cell cycle is divided in three major steps: interphase, mitosis, and cytokinesis. During interphase step, the cell produces proteins particular cells need to function properly. Interphase is separated into three phases: G1 phase where most cell s organelles duplicate leading the cell to grow and expand, Synthesis phase where the DNA in the chromosome replicate, and G2 phase where the proteins are synthesized preparing mitosis for cell division. Due to the numerous activities going on, the cell spends a lot of time in interphase. Next major step of the cell cycle is the mitotic (M) phase, during which the cell splits into two distinct cells, often called daughter cells . Mitosis is accomplished during four stages: prophase, metaphase, anaphase and telophase. During prophase, the replicated chromosomes condense, so they can move around freely, nuclear envelopes, the membrane that surrounds the nucleus scatters, and spindle protein structures called ... They have been known for their search engine for many years now. Also, Google has expanded their business into several other areas in technology from smart phones, tablets, android, and business software. Google s search engine is known for reliably getting its users the information they want. One unique aspect that Google has is its business organizational structure is that it is flat and formed up into project teams, unlike most businesses. These ten principles are a much laid back atmosphere, not top down, approach to the structure of a company. However, this is the way Brin and Page want Google to be organized and works well for the company. This is a very democratic and simple way to design a company. The way Google has structured its management and divided the stock has put Brin and Page in a position to which they will be able to retain most of the power of the company aside from stockholders, whereas management will remain flat under them. The questions that the other stockholders have about the way the company is structured will not have an effect on the future of Google. Stockholders will have very little say in the decisions of how to run the company. Google faces a large amount of competition in the technology industry, but with their management style believe that they can keep the best and brightest people. This is a company believes in teamwork and being able to keep everyone happy, not just the customers. This will enable them to keep workers who enjoy their jobs and want to put their full effort into making Google the best company in tech. Brin and Page are very determined to not only keep up with other companies in the industry but also to surpass them in all areas of technology that Google competes in. However, Brin does believe that a company tends to self destruct when they are obsessed with their competition. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Mayella Ewell Have Too Much Power Dbq Essay There are many definitions of power but my definition of power is to rule over, or to have strength. The plot of this story is about what powers do Mayella Ewell have, and need to gain. The thesis statement states that Mayella gets made fun of for her class, and gender, but because of her race, she has the right, and power to stand up for herself. For instance, Mayella lacks power because of her social class, and she lacked this power because of her,and her family lived behind the town garbage dump (Doc. A) . There are Several reasons she gets treated badly, including this quote stating while Tom was giving his Testimony, they realized that Mayella was probably the most loneliest person in the world (Doc.E) . So in conclusion Mayella got treated very badly, and finally got tired of it, and stood up for herself. Third, Mayella lacks power also, because she is a female, and they think little of her. Mayella Ewell was beaten savagely by someone who led almost exclusively with his left. This shows that because she s a woman she gets easily taken advantage of like she s nothing.(Doc.B) . Then she says She never kissed a grown man before. this shows that she has no contact,or relationships with men. (Doc.B). Lastly she says except when nothing;said Mayella I said he does tollable which means Mayella is holding back what she really wants to say about her father.(Doc B.). So in conclusion there are several ways that Mayella gets mistreated because of gender. However,Mayella does have power for her race. She shows power in chapter eighteen when she says won t answer a word you say, long as you keep mocking me (Doc.C). Falls Church City s Local Plan for the Education of the Gifted can be found at the following address: https://docs.google.com/a/fccps.org/file/d/0B7vaFg7PcgKyTGs3T3NZcGtaRjQ/edit I evaluated the information in the document above based upon Moon s (2013) nine measures to consider in comprehensive gifted education program. I think that FCCPS does a considerably good job addressing these nine guidelines. However, I believe they should consider more non standardized materials and data while considering students for identification. 1. Multiple assessments should be given to represent the categories of giftedness identified in the district s definition (Moon, 2013, p.133). According to the FCCPS definition of giftedness, the will screen to identify and to appropriately place student with specific aptitudes and achievement in the pertinent and academically advances programs (...Language Arts, Mathematics) . Students must receive between the 93rd 99th percentiles on Specific Academic Aptitude assessments, or the average of their scores must be between the 93rd and 99th percentiles. FCCPS uses multiple assessments to test for SAA in reading and math including: SAGES, Raven, STAR Math, STAR Reading, CogATs, and the SOLs (FCCPS, Local Plan for the Education of the Gifted, p. 7). 2 3. It has connections with the original story, continuing its elements, characters, settings and is directly following the events occurring in the previous chapter. In the book her perspective of her departure is not clarified, it being solely hinted by Ma s and Luo s interpretations. My added chapter describes her reasons as to why she left the mountain, her abortion, her perspective of her relationship with Luo and how she had been transformed by the power of literature. The French New Wave was a movement against the traditional ways that French Cinema had followed, most French cinema was more like literature. The 400 Blows was written by Francois Truffaut and Marcel Moussy and is looked at as one of the best French films in cinematic history. The camera angle that zoomed into his face highlights the dramatic moment. It was almost as if Antoine was looking directly at us thorough the camera. • 10. Lucy And The American Dream Analysis A close study of the way Lucy by Jamaica Kincaid and the characters of Seven react to their encounters with the new world. Both stories are new immigrant literature and they both bring the past experiences or events to the present. In the book The American Dream by Jim Cullen he questions if the past is essential to your future or does it matter at all. Lucy is a story that describes a girl s experience in the new world, throughout the story she dealt with a great deal of controversy when having to adjust to the new world. The objective of this part of the book is Lucy compares everything to a troubling episode that happened back at her home. One of Lucy s first days in the new world she was excited to see sun shining her immediate thought was warm temperature which coming from a tropical zone she was used to the type of weather. A rude awakening appeared when she felt the cold air but the sun was still shining, But I did not know that the sun could shine and the air remain cold; no one had ever told me (Kincaid 5). Throughout the story Lucy is unsatisfied with just about every encounter with the new world, the first quote shows how differently Lucy sees the world. Lucy is brought to the United States to be a babysitter to the children of Lewis and Mariah and go to school at night. The family of the house was nice to Lucy, and she is surprised by this treatment saying that I should regard them as my family and make myself at home (Kincaid 7). Another person ... • 11. Identity In Elie Wiesel s Nightwood After reading Nightwood I have been radically altered. Not in the cliché sense where one comes from reading a book and proclaims his or her life different, but altered in the sense where I have been forced to confront the issue of my own identity through the text itself. The idea of the human condition which Barnes explores in the novel brings up for me more questions than answers. Do we all suffer cruelly at the hands of this abstract notion of love? Can we reconcile, within ourselves, the notions of love, animalism, identity and sexuality (or other cultural difference) after they are marginalized into the realm of other? How do we step outside of an ideology produced by the hierarchical formation and heal the wounds that we inflict on one another? For the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jeanette Winterson in her preface to Nightwood remarked The language [in Nightwood] is not about conveying information; it is about conveying meaning. It is hard to disagree with Winterson, especially taken in the context of Barnes not being able to communicate her feelings with people directly; it makes sense that she would communicate her feelings indirectly via her writing. In my attempts to explain Nightwood as a whole, that is its language, and the meaning that one can take from such a book, I find what draws me to this piece of literature aside from its complexity and richness are the way in which its characters, Felix Volkbein, Robin Vote, Dr. Matthew O Connor and Nora Flood seek out one another in hopes that the one will fulfill the other s desire. For the analytical discussion of the novel I would like to read the character Robin Vote, examine the locus of her abject, which is that place where the meaning between Object and Subject collapses the construction of the I (read: identity ) and allows the character to experience and occupy the space of symbolic terror as she sleepwalks in and out of Felix and Nora s ... • 12. Nursing Conflict In Nursing Introduction No matter where we find ourselves in life, there will always be some conflict(s) that we will need to face. Some may be simple issues of miscommunications or more complex, involving several factors, considerations, and implications that must be accounted for when solving the conflicts at hand. Settings such as nursing homes, clinics, and hospitals are especially susceptible to high numbers of conflicts of various natures due to the numerous parties involved in each environment. Nurses, face an increased risk of getting into conflicts due to the multiple roles they could hold, such as manager, caregiver, and instructor. According to Dr. Higazee, These roles lead to various types of interactions among nurses and other healthcare team members, which significantly increase the probability for conflict to arise in hospital settings among nurses (Higazee, 2015). Therefore, conflicts are not something that can be eliminated from the lives of nurses; however, nurses can be given the skills and techniques to manage the conflicts that do arise. Although the word conflict has a negative connotation attached to it, there is a positive perspective that can be viewed as Finkelman (2016) says, It can be used to improve if changes are made to address problems related to the conflict (p. 324). While these laws are a blessing to many, the fact that they had to be put in place reflect terribly, but truthfully on how many people see people with disabilities. My only hope is that one day these laws will be unnecessary, because people will start to treat those with disabilities according to their needs. IDEA; Individuals with Disabilities Education Act 1990 1. IDEA or Individuals with Disabilities Education, formerly known as the Education for All Handicapped Children Act (EHA) lasted from 1970 to 1990. Then in 1990, the United States Congress changed the title to IDEA. 2. This act was solely focused on affording children with disabilities the same opportunity of education as children without disabilities. The act states that schools must serve the educational needs of eligible students with disabilities; they also must evaluate students suspected of having disabilities. This is beneficial to children who parents suspect need testing, but cannot afford testing or help. IDEA is composed with four parts. Part A is the general provisions of the law. Part B covers aid of education for all children with disabilities. Part C is for infants and toddlers with disabilities, this includes children from birth to age three. • 18. James Joyce Research Paper James Augustine Aloysius Joyce is well known for his many extraordinary Literature pieces. Still, to this day he is celebrated throughout Ireland as being one of the most influential figures in Irish history. Among his literary works, the most recognized and famous literature pieces were Dubliners, A Portrait of an Artist as a Young Man, Ulysses, and Finnegans Wake. Very early in life, Joyce struggled with his identity and self importance. Furthermore, Joyce publicizes these identity struggles and adolescence challenges in his autobiographical novel, A portrait of an Artist as a Young Man. This novel introduced his newly formed technique called the stream of consciousness. This well developed technique indirectly allows the audience to distinguish the thoughts and feelings of the main character, Steven Daedalus; this fictional character is an actual representation of himself. Stephen Daedalus reappears in Joyce s masterpiece Ulysses, but depicted with more sophisticated character traits. A Brief Note On The Documentary Program Essay Documentary Program Essay I have met so many people who have given me a new perspective to look at the world, who struck me with their values and characteristics, who have become inspirations in my stories. I would like to tell stories that reflect certain problems and bring awareness to the society. Here is a story that I would like to explore in depth: For decades, the phenomena of human trafficking and smuggling in China have never stopped. While poor women and children were trafficked for sexual exploitation and adoption, many young men were voluntarily smuggled to the West due to their belief in having a richer and better life overseas . People pay money to the snakeheads who have connections overseas and be shipped in cargo ships: some died of suffocation during the journey, and some were detained in prisons and deported. Fujian, a southern province, has been a hotbed of trafficking and smuggling in China. For more than a century, Fujianese had been moving to the West both legally and illegally. Death or bitter lives have never taken away their desires to earn money and prestige, but they have been living a hard life that outsiders could never have imagined, and they would never be the insiders of these western countries. Storyline In Queens, there is a huge community of Chinese immigrants. Many of the people were smuggled into the United States. These people live in a grey area: they are separated from their families and couldn t go back to their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 20. Essay about Poetry Analysis Mezzo Cammin Mezzo Cammin The poem Mezzo Cammin by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow explains his regretful life and his reasoning at why he didn t live it to its full potential and how he looks at his past. It then looks to his future as being near and bearing a huge weight down on him. The way Longfellow talks about his life is depressing. He doesn t speak of the good accomplishments, only the things he hasn t done until he looks back into the past and then forward at how the future may be. In the first part of the poem Longfellow talks about his life being halfway over and everything that stopped him from really living his life. He describes it strangely, And hear above me on the autumnal blast The cataract of Death far thundering from the heights. These lines are very open ended and in one way he could be speaking of death as far away by the way he describes the thundering waterfall very high up. The reference to height could mean its at a good distance that he can see it, but its still far away. It could also mean he has more of his life to live up to and his regretful past doesn t mean much to him anymore because he has his future to look forward to as he is on his metaphorical hill of life. In another view, he could be describing death as being right around the corner and him looking right at it when he describes the waterfall. You could look at it as him having a life threatening disease and him knowing his death is coming soon, which could also describe the way he views his past full of regret. If he knew the end is coming soon and he doesn t believe he fully lived his life to how he wishes, the regret is understandable and the cataract of death makes sense in this point of view. Overall, this poem shows the past, present, and future of the writer. His life is full of regret at points and then seems hopeful in others. This poem could be viewed in many ways but mostly you understand it as a man who wishes he could change his past because he knows his future is near and his life will soon be coming to an ... • 21. Comparison of Ancient Mesopotamian and Egyptian Art The artworks of Ancient Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt are both strikingly different and similar at the same time. Consistent is the theme of serving the different gods the two cultures believed in. In Mesopotamia the various city states each had their own protective deity, and in Egypt they sometimes differed from one dynasty to the next. Whatever the case, with the beginning of kingdoms and rulership came the need to justify a position of power and establish a hierarchy. And as more time passed came also the human need to leave an impression on their world. Each statue stands 67 feet high and depicts Ramses seated on his throne, wearing the double crown of Upper and Lower Egypt. Adorning the sides of the thrones is the symbolic unification of Egypt by the Nile Gods. The whole upper body of one of the figures is destroyed, damaged by an ancient earthquake. You can still see the remains of the torso and head at the base near the feet. Statues of Ramses mother Mut Tuy, principal wife Nefertari, and son, Prince Amonherkhepshef, stand at his sides, almost as high as his knees, and smaller statues between his legs are thought to represent either his daughters or lesser wives. The frieze topping the temple facade shows 22 baboons worshipping the sun. The recessed statue above the entrance is that of the falcon headed Ra Harakhti (associated with Horus) and is flanked by two Bas reliefs of Ramses, presumably worshipping him. James Weldon Johnson Research Paper African American Racial Pride in James Weldon Johnson s Literary Work James Weldon Johnson (1871 1938) was an important Black author, poet, leader, and political activist whose work was very influential in his time. He was born in Jacksonville, Florida in 1871 to middle class parents. In a long career he worked as a teacher, a lawyer, a diplomat and the executive officer of the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People). His literary works had a powerful influence on other African American poets of the time, and those that followed him. His best known work is the hymn, Lift Every Voice and Sing, which is considered the Negro National Anthem. He wrote many other poems such as The Color Sergeant, To America, and The Creation. The Medea, The Oresteia, Antigone, and other classic works of Grecian tragoidia all involve huge components of violence in many prominent places, and for all of these stories, violent action is an integral part of the play. Medea, especially, is a character worthy of note in this regard; her tumultuous life can be plotted accurately along a path of aggression and passionate fits, and her bloody history lends tension and ascendance to the cathartic events of the gripping Medea. In contrast to this turbulent streak of brutality in Grecian tragedy stands the world of Greek comedy. Violence in comedy is just as much a part ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In comparison to this is Lysistrata, a comedy in which violence is not shown to be an answer that works. In this story, however, the overarching dilemma is the existence of the Peloponnesian War. For Euripides, violence is a question and a centerpiece of intrigue, yet it is not the root of the plot. Aristophanes, on the other hand, chooses to investigate gender relations and the concerns of daily life by using a hollow context of violence that ostensibly motivates the actions of the characters while avoiding center stage as an issue of any weight in the play itself. At first glance this analysis seems wrong: it appears that Lysistrata is very much concerned with violence. After all, Aristophanes intended to write an anti war piece. However, while this statement is technically true, it is only a skin deep realization. In actuality, Lysistrata herself is not anti war in the sense of being ideologically opposed to war; she is anti war only insofar as she detests the Peloponnesian War. And yet, although the Mede is at our gates, / You ruin Greece with mad intestine wars. / This is my first reproach to both of you, (Aristophanes 1132) says Lysistrata to the assembled Spartan and Athenian ambassadors. The act of racial profiling has become more serious than ever; although this problem has been around for centuries, racial profiling has recently gained attention in the news. (Crais, 361) The South African Reader and Apartheid, 1948 1994 provide an abundant amount of first hand accounts that depict the clear differences in life experience and lifestyles of the white and black South Africans. Both texts give prime examples of what life was like under the apartheid regime from the precursors of apartheid all the way to the end of a very divided era. Throughout apartheid, the difference between was black and white South Africans was very apparent. Whites lived in better conditions, had better access to resources and education as well as higher quality resources, while blacks were continually mistreated and discriminated against. Life as a white South African was usually pretty desirable and easy going. Apartheid Regnany in Dubow s book describes some of the disparities between the two populations. By the end of the decade whites, numbering less than one fifth of the total population, commanded close to three quarters of the country s share of income. (Dubow, 99) The chapter also goes onto the describe the kinds of things that the whites were able to acquire: pools, a three litre Ford, ranch style homes, and maids or house boys. While meeting together in Milan during February 313 AD, Constantine I and Licinius, Roman emperors, came up with the religious policy for the future of the empire. This policy became known as the Edict of Milan and forever changed the future of religion, especially Christianity. Over 1600 years later, in January 1925, a historian named John R. Knipfing analyzes the atmosphere of religious tolerance during Constantine I s reign. Knipfing was an assistant professor of European History at Ohio State University when this essay was published in January, 1925. As Knipfing mentioned, this essay was written after World War I, which threw much of the world into chaos. Knipfing wrote this essay as a historian, analyzing the early part of Constantine s reign. Since this essay was published in a Catholic journal, there is the possibility the essay may be biased in the way it looks at religion. While historians strive to be as unbiased as possible, it is almost impossible to be able to look at everything objectively, leading to at least some bias. Additionally, since Knipfing s essay was written over 1600 years past the time it was talking about, the essay had to be based off of primary sources, such as the Edict of Milan. This leads to the possibility of double bias in this essay, as both Knipfing s and his sources writings may be biased. In this essay, Knipfing begins by discussing the constant swings back and forth between religious tolerance and intolerance. Knipfing acknowledges that there had been multiple periods of tolerance before Constantine, but none of them actually lasted for long. After discussing the Diocletian Persecution, which was occurred until the time of the Edict of Milan, Knipfing begins discussing the actual edict. Knipfing spends these pages discussing things other than the edict so readers will be able to understand how people had looked at religion up until the edict. By giving this background information, readers are better able to understand the significance of the edict. Additionally, Knipfing makes note of the fact that there was probably not an actual Edict of Milan. While many people today discuss the edict, Knipfing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This paper will cover the problem motorcycle accidents present to the military, discuss some of the safety practices currently in place to reduce deaths related to motorcycle accidents, and make recommendations to help reduce motorcycle accident deaths. Problem Motorcycle related deaths have a large impact on the U.S. military. The loss of a friend or loved one is already significant, but the loss of a military member carries with it the loss of training, knowledge, and manning to that community and branch of the military. It spans the entire service as shown when the USS Makin Island (LHD 8) performed a burial at sea for the late Master Chief Sutton, who passed away due to a motorcycle accident while stationed on board (Peak, 2016). Motor vehicle accidents account for one third of the deaths among the U.S. military annually. From 1999 to 2012, there were 4,479 motor vehicle accident related deaths among members of the military, with 25 percent attributable to motorcycle accidents (Armed Forces Health Surveillance Branch, 2013). Over that period, non motorcycle motor vehicle accidents declined while motorcycle related accidents steadily increased, accounting for a higher percentage of deaths in motor ... • 40. Sickle Cell Disease Essay Introduction The term sickle cell disease (SCD) involves a range of disorders characterized by the occurrence of at least one haemoglobin S (Hb S) allele and a second abnormal allele allowing abnormal haemoglobin polymerization leading to a symptomatic disorder. Most patients often are healthy at early stages in their life and become symptomatic later on in their life time. Fetal haemoglobin levels decrease and haemoglobin s levels increase. Sickle cell disease is determined at conception, when a person acquires his/her genes from the parents. Sickle cell disease cannot be caught, acquired, or otherwise transmitted. A study carried out in 2012 by Priola and a team wrote a study about a 30 year old man with a history of sickle cell disease ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The mutation of sickle cells reflects on a change in the amino acids protein which transports oxygen into haemoglobin. This is the protein which gives red blood cells its colour and consist of two subunits the first being the alpha subunit which is common in individual s with sickle cell disease. The second subunit is beta this has an amino acid at position 6 instead of the glutamic acid being present. If the beta globin gene is sickle and the other gene is normal this individual is a carrier of sickle cell disease, this condition is known as sickle cell trait, it s a rare condition. If both the beta globin genes are sickle then the individual has sickle cell disease, those with sickle cell trait cannot develop sickle cell disease. This shift is the basis of all the problems that occur in people with sickle cell disease. Some types of haemoglobin molecules such as fetal haemoglobin which is found before birth block the interactions between haemoglobin s and deoxygenated molecules. This haemoglobin disappears within the first year after birth. One approach to treating sickle cell disease is to rekindle production of fetal haemoglobin. The drug, hydroxyurea induces fetal haemoglobin production in some patients with sickle cell disease and improves the clinical condition of some people (Okam, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. Desire In Thou Blind Man s Mark By Sir Philip Sidney In Sir Philip Sidney s sonnet, Thou Blind Man s Mark, the speaker describes his personal experience with the vice of desire. Buy expressing the abstract and hazardous nature of desire it becomes evident that the speaker acknowledges both his disdain for the subject and his struggle to overcome it. The initial quatrain builds the idea of the blind man s mark, known as desire, with the speaker presenting progressively derogatory comments about it. By addressing desire as the blind man s mark the speaker implies that those who succumb to it are unaware of themselves doing so, since blindness represents a lack of perception. Adding to this notion, the speaker continues to call desire fond fancy s scum, and dregs of scattered thought to engrain the fleeting an trite nature the subject possesses. This list of insults climaxes in the final line of the quatrain, where the speaker states that the ultimate danger of the convoluted web of will is its perpetuity, since its end is never wrought; because it spirals on without an individuals critically analyzing their actions. ... But overall, the speaker advises those tempted to avoid desire by explaining the price he had to pay for submitting to it. • 45. How I Went from Aching Loneliness to Blissful Solitude It was an aching solitude. I sat in silence, ensnared within my chaotic mind while everyone s elated voices stretched across the classroom like a contagious disease but my immunity was too study to catch a speck of it. I was never a big fan of change, especially ones that strike you without any warning. The transition from elementary to junior high wasn t the challenging part for me, it was the fact that I felt alone. It never occurred to me that everything was temporary, even friendships. Initially, going into seventh grade was absolutely petrifying, nearly all my friends was in a different T.A., while in the other hand, I was placed in a class filled with unfamiliar faces. Everyone appeared to be recognizable to each other, I felt as if I was an outcast, just a girl at the back of the classroom. At that time, the most bothersome traits about me was that I was shy, reticent, and anxious. I swore there must have been something wrong with me, how hard could it be to approach another student and simply talk or just plainly introduce myself. Although, I attempted to be as optimistic as I possibly could, I would still be able to be with my friends at lunch, afterschool, or parties. Another part of me that was incommodious was that I clung onto my friends, they truthfully were extremely supportive and entertaining people to be around, I cherished each and every one of the our memories together but sadly, we gradually drifted apart. Hitler became chancellor in January 1933 because he was the leader of the most popular party in Germany How far do you agree with this opinion. Hitler did not become chancellor in January 1933 because he was the leader of the most popular party in Germany, it was however to do with the support of the elite that made him Chancellor. There were other factors also such as the decline of the Weimar Republic and the economy but it was mainly to do with the conservatives. One factor that shows that the support of the elite was the reason that Hitler had become Chancellor was the event of the Bamberg conference. It could be argued that this conference had changed the ideology of the NSDAP and had made it more conservative. In the Bamberg ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The political violence in the run up to the election was the perfect excuse for the removal of the SPD dominated Prussian government. President Hindenburg ordered the army to seize control; this resulted in the new regime in Prussia to be an authoritarian one. This demonstrates how the destruction of thee Weimar republic could have been the reason why Hitler had become the chancellor. However it did not directly make Hitler the chancellor, while the support of the conservatives did. Although it does show that Hitler did not become the chancellor due to the fact that Hitler did not become the chancellor due to the fact that he was the leader of the most popular party. The fear of a communist takeover could also show how it was due to the support of the conservatives is the reason Hitler had become the chancellor. The KPD had seen its vote increase from 3.2million in 1928 to 5.9 million in November 1933. It was the Nazi s determination to reduce the communist militia that caused conservatives to back Hitler. There were a number of influential industrialists and bankers including Hjalmar Schacht, IG Farben and Gustav Krupp, who put pressure on Hindenburg to appoint Hitler as chancellor. The reason behind why they had done this because they feared loosing their wealth and power in the event of a communist takeover. This shows how the support of the conservatives had led to Hitler to being chancellor, as it was them that pressurised Hindenburg ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
