Dido As A Victim Of The Gods
Despite how most reader may view her, Dido is considered to be a victim of the gods, which
ultimately lead her to her own death. When introduced in book 1 of Virgil s tale Aeneid, told to
Aeneas by his mother Venus (disguised as a huntress), Dido is revealed as a dignified queen,
beautiful, wealthy and respected by the people of Carthage. At the same time, she is resolute in her
determination not to marry again.
As told by Venus, Her husband was Sychaeus, of all Phoenicians richest in land, and greatly
loved by her, (Book I, lines 468 469). Although her husband was the richest of all Tyre, her
brother Pygmalion, King of Tyre, was obsessed with greed and his money, he decides to kill him
and manages to keep this act from Dido till she had a dream with her husband in it. He urged her
then to make haste and take flight, leaving her fatherland, and to assist the journey revealed a
buried treasure of all time, unknown to any, a weight of gold and silver (Lines 487 490). Dido
manages to preserve the memory of her dead husband, Sychaeus, whose murder causes her to flee
her home city of Tyre. Fortunately, she maintains her focus on her responsibilities. She gathers
people from Tyre and sails to a land with stone walls going higher and the citadel of Carthage, the
new town (Lines 500 501), at which the city begins its construction and she becomes the queen.
When she meets Aenea s, she offers him and his Trojan crew asylum in Carthage after escaping

Clara Barton s The American Red Cross
Richard Danner
Final Research Paper
Clara Barton
Clara Barton is not only an example of women/ Americans at their finest, but she also can and
should be revered as a national hero. Clara Barton answered the call to duty in a time when women
weren t necessarily valued not only socially but as assets of contribution. Clara Barton took up the
call by helping save thousands of lives through nursing and providing supplies during the Civil War
while also introducing one of America s first responding organizations, the American Red Cross.
Clara Barton was a servant to this country and to mankind, something our world is shorthanded of
currently and what others can aspire to be.
Clara Barton s life began in 1821 on Christmas Day in Oxford, Massachusetts. She had five
siblings and her parents were Stephen and Sarah Barton. Clara was the youngest child and was
described as a shy girl. While her mother has not been described well, only for having a temper,
her father was described as a possible motivator for Clara s endeavors. Her father had been a
captain during the Indian wars and was described as having a heart for the needy, a person of
prominence and and viewed as a leader within the community (Bio.com). He is also said to have
been a great businessman. As far as her other siblings, she two sisters and two brothers, all of which
followed in their parents footsteps.
Clara Barton was known for having a servant s heart and being educated, something she expressed

The Logic Order For The Screenings
2. The logic order for the screenings is because there are different types of screenings and
someone might use one when they have a certain situation and another type of screening for
another situation. It just depends on the situation on what type of screening someone might use.
The initial screening is based on basic need potential because when the need for a good or service
is missing then there is need for potential but when it isn t lacking then there won t be no need for
it. The second screening is for financial and economic forces, however this screening is not all
about financial analysis. Marketindicators has to do with this, which is an economic data that
measures the market strengths of many geographic areas. For example, someone might collect
data on an ecommerce potential which is located in Latin America and when collecting the data,
they have to ranked the data so it can be compared with other countries in the same region.
Market factors are almost the same as market indicators expect they correlate the market s demand
with a given product. For the third screening, it s use for political and legal forces. In this
screening there are three thigs that are review by the IC according to the most impact they will
have. The first one is entry to barriers, which most of the time are establish the government. There
are importing limits which can be positive or negative, it usually depends on the manager, whether
he or she considers it to help the market by exporting

The Immune System Of The Human Body
Immune System
Monica Salazar
BIO1021
Dr. Kimberly Snead McDaniel
South University Online
We are examining the role the immune system plays within the general day to day operation of the
human body. Further examination of the impaired immune system s profound negative impact on
the whole body system, will also be delineated. The human body has structures and processes inside
the body that defend against infection and additional harmful foreign bodies. When working
appropriately, the immune system detects a diversity of dangers, such as foreign bodies like bacteria,
viruses, and parasites, and attacks them, leaving the healthy body tissue alone. The immune system
also creates safeguards for the body to prevent disruptions of body processes by new pathogens,
traumas, and mutations. There are major components that makes up the immune system spread
throughout the body. The major organs involved in the body s immune response are the: bone
marrow, thymus, circulatory, lymphatic system, dermis and mucosal tissues that work together in
varied and complex interactions to provide the body with immune functions.
The lymphatic system produces and stores cells that helps the body battle infection and diseases.
The lymphatic system contains the following components: bone marrow, thymus, spleen, and
lymph nodes. The lymph system allows the body to move fluids and cells outside the blood and
circulatory system. The lymph system is the most important passageway

When you think of the greatest NBA players ever, who do you think of? Most likely you thought
of players such as Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, or Charles Barkley. But,
one name surpasses all others when it comes to NBA greats, that name is Michael Jordan. That
recognition doesn t come with just being a good player, you have to be able to prove it and
Michael Jordans six NBA championships and his 5 MVP s for certain just helps his case of being
the best player of all time all that much more. Michael Jeffery Jordan was born in Brooklyn, New

Michael decided he wanted to play for his home state s school, so he chose the University of

geography at the University. Plus, he was showing off that he was already a major at basketball
with about 14 points per game as a freshman, and was already turning into the star at UNC. Later
that season he was named ACC freshman of the year. Just when you think he s good, he gets
better; and in his sophomore year of college statistically was his best year of college averaging
20 points a game. And to add to his great year, he led UNC all the way to a NCAA championship
and, of course won it with a game winning shot against hall of famer, Patrick Ewing and his
Georgetown team. (NBA.com 1) Jordan Hinted of going to the NBA that next year but, decided
to stay one more year. It was a smart thing to do to because he ended up winning the most high
and honorable awards in college basketball the Naismith and Wooden player of the year awards.
Finally, Jordan felt it was the right time to leave UNC and enter himself into the NBA draft
(McCormick 17). It is known as the worst NBA draft pick in history when the Portland Trail

Rebecca Film Techniques
When Hitchcock wishes to exemplify a particular trait within his character, or reveal the
personality of a character, he does so with classy elegance. Such emphasis is laid onto few, yet
vital shots, which can reveal a whole lot of information in a few shots. Instead of using a wide
range of methods to convey the same information, why not simplify it, and convey the entire
array of emotions in a single, unique visual. For example; to exemplify the personality traits of a
lady, any other director of the time would have probably used a wide array of shots to convey the
same information. However Hitchcock says a whole lot, without saying much. In his filmRebecca,
the director wants to hint at the shrewdness, or the mean traits within a particular character, and he
achieves this by simply having the lady put out her cigarette, in something cold and delicate such as
cold cream. By showing this visual, the director allows us to understand what type of character this
lady is; without... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Here, the frames within the frame help relay positive information about the character. However in
other films such as The Lodger, framed photographs convey something entirely different. The
reaction that the lodger has upon seeing framed photographs of blonde women in his room, hint
that he might quite possibly be the blonde killer everyone is looking for. However we later
realise that his aversion to the blond girls comes from a tragic life event, where he lost his blonde
sister to the blonde killer.
Paintings in Hitchcock rarely play a merely decorative role. Instead, through their dynamic relation
to the act of framing, they project an influence into the world of the character as conduits of guilt
and desire pg name of the

have decreased significantly, and many more fish species have become extinct. What have been the
environmental impacts? Human impacts on the marine environment have increased a lot over the
years as we have become more advanced in out technology and devices. Littering, recreational
activities and over fishing are just some of the major impacts that have taken a toll on the ocean.
Scientists have said that the man made pollutions have put extra stress on the already endangered

marine conservation program helps to protect the marine biome. Marine conservation focuses on
limiting human caused damage to marine ecosystems, and on restoring damaged marine
ecosystems. Marine conservation also focuses on preserving vulnerable marine species. What could
be done to improve production sustainability? To improve the marine biomes sustainability, we
could have more laws on what and how many fish we catch, and the trolling nets should stop being

Criminalization of Poverty in Capitalist America Essay
An anonymous poet in the 1700 s wrote about crime: The law will punish a man or woman who
steals the goose from the hillside, but lets the greater robber loose who steals the hillside from
the goose. [l] When talking about the greater robber it seemed particularly appropriate in the
midst of the biggest financial rip off in history of this country to think about the billions of dollars
the Savings Loan criminals stole, and about how most of them have gotten away with it. I thought
about the complete insanity of how this country defines crimes in society. If you steal $5 you re a

Hence the power to define is an awesome power. It is the power of propaganda. It is the ability
to manipulate our ideas, to limit our agenda, to mold how we see, and to shape what we look at.
It is the power to interpret the picture we see when we look at the world for the American
people in general, and New Afrikans, in particular. It is the power to place the picture we see
when we look at the world. It is the power to place a frame around the picture, to define where it
begins and ends. It is, in fact, the power to define where our vision begins and ends, the power to
create our collective consciousness. That kind of social propaganda is not only tremendously
powerful, but it is also mostly invisible. We can t fight what we don t see. Most people accept the
images and definitions that we have been taught as true, neutral, self evident, and for always; so
that the power to paint the future, to define what is right and wrong, what is lawful and what is
criminal, is really the power to win the battle for our minds. And to win it without ever having to
fight it. Simply said, it is hard to fight an enemy who has an outpost in our minds. This indicates the
need for revolutionary nationalists to develop a national agitationpropaganda mechanism.
Specifically, nationalist need a single national publication and organ that represents the unified
development of NAIM (The New African Independence Movement) to which

Respect and Integrity in the Military Essay
Respect and integrity, what really do those mean? I could look up those words in the Oxford
English Dictionary or Websters, or Dictionary.com and give a scientific, perscise and exact answer
to these words. And while that tells you what they mean, does that really give their meaning. Well
by Dictionary.com s standards respect is a noun that means to hold in esteem or honor, and to show
regard or consideration for. And Dictionary.com says that integrity means an adherence to moral
and ethical principles; soundness of moral character, honesty, and the state of being whole, entire,
or undiminished as to morality. The Army on the other hand has their own, similar, but specific

The Army Value views respect as something that is just between people, yet at the same time it is
also something that is between offices. Each rank is expected to show a certain respect for the
ranks above them. In some units a private is expected respect a specialist, while both show
respect for their sergeants. This has less to do with the specific people then it does with their
experience and respect and of their peers and the people who are situated over them. As soldier
we respect the ranks that are above us because their peers and other higher Sergeants have seen
something in them. Some form of leadership, or the craftsmanship and mastery of their job that
they have found some respect for them, and decided that they deserve to be honored for it.
These are people who have seen many soldiers, and been in the Army long enough to recognize
these traits in a person, and other people should respect that. Not just because of the office they
hold but because of their experience that led them to that office. The Army has kind of got it
right, in a way. They view respect as a way that we should act towards each other and treat each
other. But Respect is still so much more then that. You can not respect just a person, or a rank, or a
position, but also someones experience that has led them to where they are. Its more about feelings

Analysis Of Sears Holding Company ( Shld )
Introduction Sears Holding Company (SHLD) was once a very successful organization. Prior to
the 1980 s, SHLD managed to generate revenue and compete among the top retailers in America
(Kim, 2014). However, in more recent years, SHLD has become subject to scrutiny among
industry s critics. As of late, SHLD has made several attempts to revive their organization. These
attempts involve SHLD implementing corporate, business and functional leveled strategies
within their organization. Corporate Level Strategies Every organization needs to create
corporate level strategies. Corporate level strategies help organizations create plans and methods
that will allow them to grow, no matter how the economy changes (Latham, 2014). SHLD used
two different corporate level strategies to help them increase revenue and cut costs. The first
corporate strategy used by SHLD is horizontal integration mergers. This strategy involved SHLD
merging with K Mart. K mart decided to merge with Sears in 2004, in hopes that both stores can
gain an competitive advantage over rival retail giants. Both SHLD and K Mart thought that they
would be better suited to compete against Lowes and Home Depot; this is due to their potential
inventory increase and availability from the merger. While merging seemed to open doors for both
SHLD and K Mart, there was still a need for retrenchment. Retrenchment was used by SHLD once
the merger as complete, this involved store closures and laying off employees at various Sears

The Case Of Alexander Vs. Holmes County Board Of Education
The topic I ll be discussing will be the biasedness in media about a particular topic, the US
Supreme Court s decision on the case of Alexander vs. Holmes County Board of Education. The
case involved a previous Supreme Court ruling of Brown vs. Board of Education, where they
gave schools to desegregate public schools with all deliberate speed. 15 years passed and school
districts were still segregated, so the courts gave them till the beginning of the next year, 1970.
This gave some schools a very abrupt shock as they had to conform to the decision. As something
that opinionated, it allows news media to explore and write about such a topic. The following day
after the case was presented to the Supreme Justices, the Dallas Morning News paper gave a few
remarks about how the federal government stood alongside the state of Mississippi in the Supreme
Court and pleaded for delay in further desegregation... 1 The use of the federal government in this
situation is to have the reader sympathize with Mississippi and is even followed by pleaded to
further the sympathy. The government shared the frustrations of black school children... 1 is
written to try to balance out the biased opinion but when children is used instead of students, it
creates a belittling picture of their opposition. The administration s chief civil rights lawyer, Jerris
Leonard, was quoted saying that both the North and South had made substantial breakthroughs in
desegregation of schools... but that

Manifesto Of The Communist Party
The Communist Manifesto, originally drafted as, Manifesto of the Communist Party , is a
pamphlet written by Karl Marx, that in essence reflects an attempt to explain the goals and
objectives of Communism, while also explaining the concrete theories about the nature of society in
relation to the political ideology. The Communist Manifesto breaks down the relationship of socio
economic classes and specifically identifies the friction between those classes. Karl Marxessentially
presents a well analyzed understanding of class struggles and the issues concerning capitalism, the
means and modes of production and how those means affect the classes as a whole.
Every society is structured or designed with the intention to form social classes; classes that will
determine the social mobility of each individual living within it. Within the social hierarchy, there is
inevitably one class that essentially oppresses the others. The Communist Manifesto features The
Bourgeoisie and The Proletarians, and explains that the relationship between the two classes is a
common frictional relationship that has occurred countless times throughout history. It explains
that the modern Bourgeoisie will eventually fall, due to their inability to maintain a lifestyle for the
proletarians; which is ultimately caused by the instability of capitalism.
The goals of Communism are clearly set forward in the process. Marx informs us that Communism
is established to achieve 3 major things: to solidly form

Social Control In Deviance
What is deviance? Deviance maintains the idea of nonconforming to societal norms with very
outlandish ideas, thoughts, and action. They are many different types of deviances, ranging from
subtle deviant behavior to extreme deviant behavior. The idea of a government creating certain
sanctions, rules, and ideas to enforce a level of societal control and avoid chaos is social control.
With social control is four different elements or variables to why deviants or criminals commit a
crime; which is, attachment, commitment, involvement, and beliefs. The first variable of social
control is attachment; attachment is when a person forms a certain type of emotional or mental
identification and ties with certain things, people or ideas. For example, our attachment to our
family, friends, personal items or pets show our level of sensitivity whereas those who lack that are
considered more selfish. The second social control variable is commitment; which is an indirect
type of rational element to the theory; which highlights the conventional lines in one s actions
showing that there was motivation to invest in a type of social engagement or career. The action
taking place is much more conventional, an example would be a commitment to pursuing a degree
in a university even though the course curriculum is very challenging. The third social control
variable is involvement, the lines of whichever activity that is felt comfortable along with the time
spent on it. Such as a student preparing to

Natural Law Vs Divine Command Theory
The Theory of Natural Law, may be define in three aspects, there being a natural order in the world,
everything having a purpose and how things are and how things ought to be. This theory also states
that humans can distinguish between what is right or wrong through human reason/moral
knowledge. On the other hand, the Divine Command Theory is a view of moralityand states that
what s right or wrong is set by Gods moralcommands. God s commands tell us what is morally
obligatory, permitted and wrong.
The Natural Law tells that humans have a moral knowledge/reason that makes us able to decide
what s right. This has caused various debates on whether people did the right because it was the
right thing to do or because that s what God commands. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, not all the Ten Commandants are easy to follow or even go with the time we are
living in. One of the Ten Commandants states that we should not take the name of the Lord in
vain, yet today the Lord s name it s something we say on a daily basis. In addition, religious
followers may decide to act in a harmful or negative way in society and defend themselves by
saying that God has command them to do it; which may lead to extreme religions, where its
followers may take every word of the book to heart and try to carry out those views on their
society. This theory makes us question on whether who came first, God or right, which I believe
that right came first. When comparing the Divine Command with the Minimum Conception, it
can be deduced that both are very differing from each other. One of the reasons is that with the
Divine Command, God chooses for us what it s right or wrong and if it became a moral system,
atheists will feel out of place because they have a different set of believe just like other religions.
In conclusion, while both the Natural Law Theory and the Divine Command Theory have
aspects that I don t agree on, both brought interesting ways to look at the world and the origin of
our morals. Personally, I agree more with the Natural Law, since I believe that people do act on
moral knowledge and the world has a natural order. Both theories showed me the various ways
people may think about God and what s

Fiscal Issues In Canada
Summary Canada currently faces a number of significant fiscal challenges that require leadership,
strategy, and a commitment to take the actions needed to protect the country s future prosperity.
This briefing note outlines the greatest fiscal challenges facing the federal government and offers
recommendations for addressing these issues. Declining commodity prices around the world,
along with one of the world s strongest links between oil production and currency (McNeely,
2015) places the country at considerable risk. An economic slowdown in China has led to a major
decline in global commodity prices. At the same time, geo political conflict has led to some OPEC
member states like Saudi Arabia flooding the market with oil in an attempt to... Show more content

It is recommended that Canada adopt and implement a more active fiscal policy and cut interest
rates to ensure the prices of commodities remain low. Low commodity prices can potentially
stimulate demand over time and boost exports, benefiting the country s economy, including its
beleaguered commodities sector. At the same time, tax incentives for business and consumers to
pursue alternative energy projects could further stimulate the economy and lead to strong consumer
confidence in the levels of permanent income increasing over time. Buttressing short term efforts
such as cutting interest rates with tax incentives to promote long term growth and a shift toward a
more diverse economy could help Canada address both its short term and longer term economic
woes. Moreover, this two tiered approach would likely generate an increase in consumer spending
as the government s approach would promote greater confidence in a more diverse Canadian
economy being able to grow over time, thus providing individuals with greater spending

The Philosophy Of Aristotle s Philosophy
Within each of our existences, we as social creatures desire friendship/social interaction which
comforts us on the confusing journey we call life. I believe that through my interpretation of
Aristotle s philosophy, that we all have friends when seeing the world through Aristotle s
philosophy. Aristotle describes friendshipas being made up of mutual feelings of good intentions
between two individuals. According to him, there are 3 different types of friendships that make
up the base of social interactions. The first out of 3 types of friendships that he talks about is
Utility based friendships. These types of friendships are based on the benefits/trading that the
two individuals can gain from each other. These are most often formed by individuals with
opposite personalities. The decision making process involved in forming these types of
relationships are based on long term benefit, or time to benefit ratio. This type of relationship is
characterized as shallow, weak, and easily dissolved. The most problems occur in this type of
relationship due to the deviation in valuing one another s service. For example, Billy and Bob
are friends/roommates, Billy made a painting as a gift for Bob in exchange for paying his half of
the rent, Bob believes that while being appreciative of the painting, that it is worth less than the
price of the rent he couldn t pay and insists that Bob either starts pulling his own weight or hits the
road to find additional income and a different

Education And Gender Roles Are Direct Causes For The...
Education and Gender Roles are Direct Causes for the Renaissance. Throughout the Fourteenth and
into the Fifteenth Century, there were a number of tragic events that directly caused the need for a
revitalization of society. This revitalization was needed to restore hope to the people that were
living each day for survival. Some of these events were the destabilization of the Catholic Church
with the relocation of the papacy from Rometo Avignon. This would soon be followed by the
Black Death and its mammoth death toll that lead to the reduction of work forces and uprisings of
peasants. At the same time, England and France were fighting a series of wars that would later be

The classical Roman Culture was idolized by those involved in this Renaissance. This
idolization of Roman Culture led to the re institution of classical education and gender roles,
with slight modifications to focus on Humanism. These two significant changes in society were
the catalyst by which the Renaissance was caused and grew with great speed and popularity.
Coming out of the time in Europe that was riddled with death and violence, people wanted a
better society with certain rights and securities that would be guaranteed. This can be seen in a
document from 1378 in which a revolt was recorded when the popolo wanted certain requests
guaranteed. The document that recorded this event was the Chronicle of the Ciompi Revolt from
1378 and reads, [July 21, 1378] When the popolo and the guildsmen had seized the palace [of the
Podesta], they sent a message to the Signoria...that they wished to make certain demands by
means of petitions, which were just and reasonable...They said that, for the peace and repose of
the city, they wanted certain things which they had decided among themselves. ( Chronicle of the
Ciompi, 1378 , Discovering, 204). This was clearly a violent uprising of the popolo and guildsmen
to demand more freedoms and rights for a better life for their families and guild. All that people
knew, at that time, was the massive death toll that was produced by the Black Death and the wars
that continued popping up

Comparing Arkady s Fathers And Children
In the novel Fathers and Children by Ivan Turgenev, the young university graduate Arkady
Petrovich attempts to find his place within his generation and to distinguish himself from the old
aristocratic Russian ways of the generation of his father, Nikolai Petrovich. At the beginning of the
novel, Arkady follows his friend, Yevgeny Bazarov, and the ideology of nihilism
. Nihilism is a
philosophy that rejects all social practices, principles, and rules. As a nihilist, Arkady believes that
its practice is the way he and his generation can succeed in bringing about changes and progress in
their Russian society. Like most adolescents, Arkady struggles to discover how he can influence the

40) of Bazarov. He considers Bazarov the teacher and master of nihilism and himself the student.
Arkady always seems to say that nihilists believe certain things and that Bazarov states particular
facts, yet Arkady gives the impression that he struggles to embrace these same convictions deep
inside of himself. Arkady accepts nihilism to fit in with his generation and to gain the respect and
friendship of Bazarov. Arkady never proclaims his own conviction in nihilism as undeniably as
Bazarov. As the noveldevelops and Arkady and Bazarov travel together, Arkady matures to
become his own individual. Arkady eventually decides to reject Bazarov and the falseness of his
principles. This is evident when Arkady shows his appreciation for music and when he defends
his father and his uncle to Bazarov when Bazarov criticizes their aristocratic ways and
romanticism. Ultimately, Arkady s complete growth into his own individual self is seen when he
decides to renounce a life without emotion and tradition that Bazarov preached. Arkady breaks
free of Bazarov s spell and shows that he holds the same values as his father when he falls in love
with Katya. Katya reminds Arkady of his love of music when she plays the piano for him and he is

Women= Objects in Ads
What does a naked woman have to do in a men s cologne advertisement? Well the adver tisement
companies think that sex sells. When women is objectified, they are being degraded of their
character as a human. These days young women especially, they are being objectified to sell
goods and services using their looks and not their knowledge. In the article Objectification of
Women in Entertainment Media by Jon Barber, explains how the objectification of women in
society is a trend that is developing in the entertainment of media today. Barber points out it is
specifically in movies, music videos, music, television, and in the advertisement industries there
is strong focus on women as sexual objects rather than women. What Barber is saying it is true;
an example of this is one of the Tom Ford Ad (see image below). What is a men s fragrance
cologne doing in between a woman s breasts? Barber goes on to say that the media is creating
social stereotypes for both men and women that can result in un healthy social and physical habits
which is catastrophic to society. (Barber par 1) This is unfor tunate; there is no escape from these
Ads, because the average of advertisements being watched by a woman is about 400 to 600 per
day. (Qtd. In Effects on Women)

Culture Influence On The Other Wes Moore
The Other Wes Moore by Wes Moore is a collection of memories and stories that attempts to trace
back to the factors that influenced the course of two young boys lives. Both from the same city,
even with the same name. What factors could have possibly lead to their entirely different life
outcomes? The best way to describe this is to talk about culture. I will explain how within the two
boys lives they had varying experiences with culture due to their families efforts, which ultimately
impacted the course of their futures. Culture includes the knowledge, belief, arts, morals, law,
custom, and any other capabilities and habits acquired by man as a member of society

Reaction Of The Maillard Reaction
Introduction
The non enzymatic reaction of reducing sugars with amino groups of amino acids, peptides and
proteins is called as non enzymatic glycosylation or simply glycation. This non enzymatic reaction
ultimately results in the formation of complex brown pigments and protein protein crosslinks that
were first studied under defined conditions by Maillard in the early 1900s (Maillard and Gautier,
1912) and the reaction came to known as the Maillard reaction. There is a condensation reaction
between reducing sugar and free amino acids at the amino terminus or susceptible Оµ amino group
of lysine residues of proteins producing labile N substituted glycosylamine (Schiff base) that may
undergo two sequential rearrangements, forming a stable Amadori product (Fayle Gerrard, 2002).
The reducing sugars namely, glucose, fructose, galactose, mannose, ribose and certain carbohydrate
relatives are inherently reactive toward nucleophilic groups. Glucose is the least reactive among
common sugars because it exists in least concentration in the open chain form (Paulsen and
Pflughaupt, 1980). Amadori rearrangement was a key early step in the Maillard reaction (Hodge,
1955). Early glycation directs the formation of Schiff s bases and Amadori products that further
oxidized to advanced glycated end products (AGEs) (Chetyrkin et al., 2008). Studies have shown
that the glycation process (in the early stage where the interaction of sugars, such as glucose, with
free amino groups of lysine and

Model Of Self-Republicanism
Unconsciously we all have a standard by which we measure other men, and if we examine
closely we find that this standard is a very simple one, and is this: we admire them, we envy
them, for great qualities we ourselves lack. Hero worship consists in just that. Our heroes are
men who do things, which we recognise, with regret, and sometimes with a secret shame, that we
cannot do. We find not much in ourselves to admire, we are always privately wanting to be like
somebody else. If everybody was satisfied with himself, there would be no heroes (Mark Twain,
2013).

The self sacrifice of the rebels of 1916 and the hunger strike deaths of Ashe, MacSwiney,

would require a strong artillery presence from his side. Around the Battle of Verdun, German and
British artillery had made leaps and bounds in terms of progression, and the Americans were
watching incorporating these lessons for the upcoming offensive. No longer primarily a direct
fire weapon, artillerymen were utilizing indirect assets. Now troops hiding on the other side of a
hill had fires to worry about. Also up to this point trench warfare had been a primary means of
fighting on most battle fields. This indirect fire concept was also utilized by machine gunners;
soldiers pointing their weapons in the air to drop rounds and suppress an area. As you will read,
the Americans even used some French pieces in their

How Is Harold Godwinson Brave
Harold Godwinson was not fit to be king. Obnoxiously beastly and unwanted he cared nothing
for the people. Lying and cheating were his norm. When he wanted something Harold was
willing to do anything to obtain it. What was it that he craved? Power. Not being at all brave, in
fact, quite the opposite, Harold was always saying stupid stuff to make people leave him alone,
Harold was not at all brave, moreover, he was a poor military officer, it should be obvious that he
was lacking much of the experience required to take on kingly duties.
Harold Godwinson was full of trickery. William, you are going to become king Harold lied, I
swear to stay loyal to you . Having been captured by Williams men, Harold wanted to reach home.

Hippotherapy Personal Statement
It has invariably been my dream to work with children with disabilities and to achieve a career as
an Occupational Therapist. I want to work with children who have disabilities to help assist in
making a difference in their lives. From a young age, I have known what I wanted to be when I
grew up. We were close with a family when I was growing up that had a daughter who had Rett
Syndrome. I grew up watching how different therapies, particularly hippotherapy, improved her
quality of life. I have spent summers volunteering at the Equestrian Zone, which is a place that
offers hippotherapy to people who have disabilities. I ve spent my breaks from college shadowing
therapists to be certain this is what I want to spend my life doing. I have observed

Persuasive Essay On Hunger
Elizabeth Olsen says I get way too much happiness from good food. This is not something just
anyone can feel. Going home to a meal on the table is a privilege in this economy. In just WNC,
Western North Carolina, there are kids and entire families that are not getting ends meat. This is
a big problem that we as a community need to fix, The number of undernourished human beings
on the planet increased from 777 million in 2015 to 815 million in 2016 (New York Times).
Nevertheless, there are already movements being created. One of these movements is MANNA
FoodBank, whose mission is to help and provide a meal. And others like Roadrunner, who gives
backpacks of foodto about 1,500 kids are also trying to stop hunger (Hunger 35).
Hunger in the U.S. has been a problem for centuries. In the early 1980s, adverse economic
conditions and efforts to limit federal spending led to a general belief that hunger was
widespread in the United States and may have been increasing. Every year food is rising in
price, and every year more and more people can t afford to have a meal on the table when they
get home. According to Time Magazine [the cost of] dried beans, has leaped an astounding 256%
since December 1970, while rice has jumped 124%. People started seeing this pattern and in the
1986 s millions joined hands. This movement was called Hands Across America. This event was to
raise money for the Americans who are hungry. This act was just a small bite out of the whole

Coca Cola Vs. Pepsi Cola Essay
The smooth bold refreshing taste as the cold bubbles fizz on your tongue and head down your
throat and into your stomach. Coca Cola is something the average American has drank in his or
her lifetime. This has been in part due to the remarkably intelligent advertisements that were
made in post 1945 America. While having emphasis on its refreshing cool taste and
convenience, these ads created a certain attitude with its audience causing the rise in popularity
and sales. During this same time Pepsi was also on the rise competing with Coca Cola. Both
Coke and Pepsi used similar strategies but Coca Cola gave itself a slight edge through
innovative technique and the use of lifestyle advertising. Coca Cola really did create a
refreshing beverage but created an ad campaign using refreshing, exciting, and humorous ads that
made your mouth water. Looking at both advertisements as a whole one notices how all of the
ads for both companies are paintings of people, which makes people compare themselves to
something that is not real. At this time many men and women were greatly affected by these ads.
Women particularly would notice the unrealistic waistlines and flawless skin and tone. This
caused them to become self conscience about their bodies because they believed those images to
be something they were to copy. This technique plays with the psyche of our society, which is
clever but very controversial. Established in 1886 and 1889, Coca Cola and Pepsi Co., respectively,

The Rates Of Teen Pregnancy Essay
INTRODUCTION Throughout the United States, rates of teen pregnancy are significantly
high. In 2013, there were 26.5 births for every 1,000 adolescent females ages 15 19, or 273,105
babies born to females in this age group.1 Young, minority women between the ages of 15 and 24
appear to be at greater risk for becoming pregnant. Minority populations are also linked with low
socioeconomic status, whether in terms of education or income, or both. Having low income and
lower levels of education (the most commonly used measures of SES) were also associated with
increased risk for unintended pregnancies, with 62% of pregnancies being unintended among
those earning 200% of the FPL.2 In addition, with minority populations growing rapidly, many of
these young women and their families live in smaller, more rural areas. According to one study, in
rural and small town areas the Hispanic population increased by 1.9 million or 46 percent between
2000 and 2010.3 In rural areas there is often limited access to nearby health care facilities. With
income, education and living inadequacies, these young women face complications with
availability and ready access to contraception, and are therefore less likely to practice effective
utilization of contraceptives. There is evidence that minority and low SES women are less likely to
use contraception overall, use different contraceptive methods, and have higher rates of
contraceptive failure than white and higher SES women.2 Cultural beliefs and

Sauron From The Canterbury Tales
The best villain I have ever read about was Sauron from Lord of the Rings . The Dark Lord
Sauron, a servant of Morgoth, the Great Enemy, took his master s place after the First Age.
Through the story he makes much trouble for the protagonist and creates wars. Sending many
enemies and dragons as such to attack the hero s. Sauron is a nightmare that would do nothing
to get the ring s power. Sauron does many things that show he is a villain. I have already said
some things about what he did. Sauron attacked the people that were once in peace and all for
power. He killed probably thousands or more with his armies. He attacked the elves and the
dwarves and more. He did horrible things and has earned the spot as the best villain ever read in

Olaudah Equiano Class Structure
Everyone comes from a different background and lives in different situations, but copious amounts
of people don t understand what they haven t experienced. In early American slavery and Puritan
society, class structure and religion leads to the unfair treatment of some individuals due to an
inability to understand those living in dissimilar situations, or with differing backgrounds. How
others treat people as a result of their living situation or background molds the way a person thinks

In The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano, Equiano s religion helps him
through his journey, but the Europeans don t understand how, as they have never practiced or
experienced his religion. Equiano uses his knowledge of his religion to help him understand
information he is unfamiliar with, I asked how the vessel could go? They told me they could not
tell; but that there was cloth put upon the masts by the help of ropes I saw, and then the vessel
went on; and the white men had some spell or magic they put in the water when they liked, in
order to stop the vessel (Pg. 87 lines 64 69). In Equiano s religion, magic is a common belief. He
doesn t actually understand the mechanics of the ship, so he uses what is familiar to him his
religion to help him understand. The Europeans don t legitimately know how the boat works,
but they don t use their religion to help them, they just don t think about it. They can t
understand why he would believe in magic or spirits or let them explain how concepts work as
they have never experienced his religion, and Christianity is all they know. In The Crucible,
Tituba comes from Barbados and a different religion that highly contrasts with the strict Puritan
religion, and though she claims to have fully converted, there are still elements the officials of
Salem don t understand about her or her religion. Tituba and Sarah Good tell Herrick that they re

him and says, Oh, it be no Hell in Barbados. Devil, him be pleasure man in Barbados, him be
singin and dancin in Barbados (Pg. 122). Puritans recognize the Devil as the worst possible entity
one could encounter. They believe the Devil sends out witches to do his bidding, and force them

Classical Conditioning Vs Observational Learning
From an early age, it is drilled into our heads: Restlessness, distraction, and ignorance are the
enemies of success. We re told that learning is all self discipline, that we must confine ourselves to
designated study areas, turn off the music, and maintain a strict ritual if we want to ace that test,
memorize that presentation, and create writing assignment.
There are three major methods of learning. Which are classical conditioning, operant conditioning,
and observational learning. Classical conditioning theory involves learning a new behavior via the
process of association. In simple terms, two stimuli are linked together to produce a new learned
response in a person or animal. There are three stages of classical conditioning stage 1: Before ...

This method is better in a way that by observing others, we can quickly gain knowledge about
which behaviors are likely to lead to good outcomes. What I remember from my childhood is
that everything I learned was by watching everyone else. For example every time my mom
would want to teach me something knew she would demonstrate it to me. I learned a lot by
seeing what others did. When my aunt started to cook I loved watching her cook to see how she
made the food. Now that I became older I know how to cook by just watching my aunt cook
when I was younger. I also learned how to ride the bike because my mom thought me how to
ride it with demonstrations. I believe most of the people in this world learn by observing others.
Is an easier way to learn and is not too complicated. Just like the saying monkey see, monkey do .
When people see other people doing something they want to do it as well I believe is just a human
instinct we have developed with time. Till this day I learn better with demonstrations r

Christian Leadership Bible
Leadership, as it relates to the Bible, is a guide or a way of living. Leadership is not only an
outward manifestation of task, objectives, and strategies that are seen in the secular arena, but
leadership is from within. Christensen (2015) points out
Christian leadership is not a combination of two individual tasks; it is a full embrace of the
Christian world view and way of living and the leading from that understanding is (christian
leadership)...The primary call of the Christian is to follow God and be formed in the image of his
son...The secondary call is to serve God orthopathy, ortho cardy, orthodoxy, and be orthopraxy.
(Para 2)
In other words, a Christian and/or leadership does not live outside of itself And whatsoever ye
do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the
reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ (Colossians 3:23 24, King James Version).

that affects the life changing experience of individuals and organizations (p126). Although there is
a distortion of understanding who Jesus is, Servant Leadership is the choice over alternative
theories because alternatives will affect individuals and organizations. Because the sacred text
(Robbins, 1996) communicates insight into the relationship between the human and the divine,

Temple Buddhism
The founder of Buddhism was called Siddhartha, a member of the Gautama clan. He lived
between 560 480 B.C.E. Gautama was the son of a king called Suddhodana and his wife Maya.
After his birth, it was believed that the Gautama would be a great king as his father was, but if
the kid ever saw the human misery, he would grow to be a religious teacher. The king
Suddhodana did not want this for his son, so he protected the kid from seeing especially four
sights: a dead body, an aged person, a diseased person, and an ascetic monk. At the age of
nineteen years old, Gautama married his cousin and had a son called Rahula. As Gautama began
to realize the ugliness of the world he started to try asceticism. He was considered a champion in
asceticism, achieving the point where he could eat a single grain of rice per day. The Buddha
became enlightened when he was about thirty five years old. He spent the rest of his life teaching
the Buddhism disciplines. His followers included many different types of people because in his
teachings he believed that any person of any caste or sex could achieve enlightenment.
The Buddha considered gods as mortal beings, also subject to the laws of karma and rebirth. The
Buddha was more concerned about people finding their own enlightenment instead of relying on the
help of the gods. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

An Innocent Man Wronged in Oleanna Essay
Sometimes there are events in our lives that we cannot control. These events occur, more or less,
due to our own actions. Sometimes, however, we must come to terms with our inability to handle
certain situations and also to reach our goals. These events are facts of life everyone: some people
can t run as fast, or liftas much, or write as well. It is during these times that we must focus on what
we can do well, and try to direct our goals around those features that make us good at something. In
David Mamets Oleanna, John loses his job and his house due to Carol s ignorance, lack of self
confidence, and overall inabilityto come to terms with her own short comings as a student. This
play epitomizes an act of complete degradation based... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
John and Carol are having a conversation about various topics and John tries to get Carol to
express some kind of opinion on the subject:
John: Well, let s address that. What do you think? Carol: I don t know. John: What do you think,
though? (pause) Carol: I don t know.
That exchange of dialogue on page 29 sums up Carol s lack of self confidence. She won t even
take the plunge, and try to talk about a subject brought up in class. John tries to get her to give
an opinion on a subject that carol obviously doesn t understand, in an attempt to help her
comprehend. Carol doesn t believe that she has any ability, or else she would have at least tried
to answer his question, a question that isn t hard in and of itself to understand What do you
think? Other examples of her total lack of self confidence can be found earlier in the play: ...and
I walk around. From morning til night: with this one thought in my head. I m stupid (12). What
kind of person thinks of themselves as stupid, all the time? Carol obviously has no confidence in
her abilities to do anything, and she feels that everyone around her thinks she s stupid as well. On
the very next page even, Carol accuses John of calling her stupid. She is so deliberate in her belief
that she takes what John says out of context, and turns it into an insult against her. Carol

Essay On The Restoration Of The New Netherlands
Since the many splits and merges of various religions, it seems that the Jewish people have never
seemed to be accepted in any other religious domain. In this Petition, the Jewish people have been
kicked out of yet another country, Brazil, which was previously under the power of the typically
religious tolerant Dutch. This petition is a way for the Jewish people to contact the Dutch West
India Companyto address the fact that they are making it more difficult for the Jewish people to
travel and live in another country.
During this period multiple things were happening with the British colonies and with Great Britain
itself. Some of these things include the first set of slave codes, the colonization of the Carolinas,
Georgia, and East and West Jersey, but the two that I will be focusing on are the restoration of the
Monarchy and the conquering of the New Netherlands by Great Britain. ... Show more content on

Britain thought about their colonies. He believed that the future of Great Britain rested in the
colonies hands, so he changed how the way Great Britain dealt with the colonies. First, he
granted allies control of areas of the colonies so that they could settle the area faster and be able
to focus completely on said colony; this was different from the way the colonies were controlled
before because they were Royal colonies, the King had complete control, but now they are called
Proprietary colonies. This establishment of Proprietary colonies leads to the next topic of how

8th Grade Singing
Hello,
There are quite a few pedagogical reasons why Rachel and I have decided to combine both
choirs. Below are just a few. My 8th grade boys were having a hard time singing do to voice
changes. I tried to keep the boys up in their falsetto and while this worked for a few boys the
others we not able to produce certain notes. When boys voices start to change it can result in them
only being able to sing a very limited amount of notes. We worked on high trills, sliding, humming,
yawning, held long tones, among many of other to help support their changing voices. After our
first concert I talked with my boys and they had mentioned that they felt very discouraged about
singing because some of them simply are not producing notes or can only sing in a low rumble.
Rachel mentioned to me that her boys were just starting to transition and she was noticing large
gaps in her group as well. Combining both groups would result in a higher confidence level, tone
production, and create a full choir sound. This is one of the reasons why we combined the groups. ...

Evil In Plato s The Republic
In The Republic Plato suggests that unless kings rule as philosophers or that philosophers rule as
kings, there will always be evil, which is a logical fallacy that does not take into account the core
of human nature, of which is to preserve oneself solely for the purpose of reproducing and
continuing their bloodline. Platos take on a perfect city without evil by cause of it being ruled by a
Philosopher King is an idea that makes absolute sense on paper, but would be irrational to try to
conceive in real life. The notion that philosophyis the most important asset that a person can take
advantage of is grounded and logical and holds true as a result of many modern day beliefs being
rooted in Greek philosophy thus forming how people think and behave today, however due to the

  • 2. Dido As A Victim Of The Gods Despite how most reader may view her, Dido is considered to be a victim of the gods, which ultimately lead her to her own death. When introduced in book 1 of Virgil s tale Aeneid, told to Aeneas by his mother Venus (disguised as a huntress), Dido is revealed as a dignified queen, beautiful, wealthy and respected by the people of Carthage. At the same time, she is resolute in her determination not to marry again. As told by Venus, Her husband was Sychaeus, of all Phoenicians richest in land, and greatly loved by her, (Book I, lines 468 469). Although her husband was the richest of all Tyre, her brother Pygmalion, King of Tyre, was obsessed with greed and his money, he decides to kill him and manages to keep this act from Dido till she had a dream with her husband in it. He urged her then to make haste and take flight, leaving her fatherland, and to assist the journey revealed a buried treasure of all time, unknown to any, a weight of gold and silver (Lines 487 490). Dido manages to preserve the memory of her dead husband, Sychaeus, whose murder causes her to flee her home city of Tyre. Fortunately, she maintains her focus on her responsibilities. She gathers people from Tyre and sails to a land with stone walls going higher and the citadel of Carthage, the new town (Lines 500 501), at which the city begins its construction and she becomes the queen. • 3. Clara Barton s The American Red Cross Richard Danner Final Research Paper Clara Barton Clara Barton is not only an example of women/ Americans at their finest, but she also can and should be revered as a national hero. Clara Barton answered the call to duty in a time when women weren t necessarily valued not only socially but as assets of contribution. Clara Barton took up the call by helping save thousands of lives through nursing and providing supplies during the Civil War while also introducing one of America s first responding organizations, the American Red Cross. Clara Barton was a servant to this country and to mankind, something our world is shorthanded of currently and what others can aspire to be. Clara Barton s life began in 1821 on Christmas Day in Oxford, Massachusetts. She had five siblings and her parents were Stephen and Sarah Barton. Clara was the youngest child and was described as a shy girl. While her mother has not been described well, only for having a temper, her father was described as a possible motivator for Clara s endeavors. Her father had been a captain during the Indian wars and was described as having a heart for the needy, a person of prominence and and viewed as a leader within the community (Bio.com). • 4. The Logic Order For The Screenings 2. The logic order for the screenings is because there are different types of screenings and someone might use one when they have a certain situation and another type of screening for another situation. It just depends on the situation on what type of screening someone might use. The initial screening is based on basic need potential because when the need for a good or service is missing then there is need for potential but when it isn t lacking then there won t be no need for it. The second screening is for financial and economic forces, however this screening is not all about financial analysis. Marketindicators has to do with this, which is an economic data that measures the market strengths of many geographic areas. For example, someone might collect data on an ecommerce potential which is located in Latin America and when collecting the data, they have to ranked the data so it can be compared with other countries in the same region. Market factors are almost the same as market indicators expect they correlate the market s demand with a given product. For the third screening, it s use for political and legal forces. In this screening there are three thigs that are review by the IC according to the most impact they will have. The first one is entry to barriers, which most of the time are establish the government. There are importing limits which can be positive or negative, it usually depends on the manager, whether he or she considers it to help the market by exporting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Immune System Of The Human Body Immune System Monica Salazar BIO1021 Dr. Kimberly Snead McDaniel South University Online We are examining the role the immune system plays within the general day to day operation of the human body. Further examination of the impaired immune system s profound negative impact on the whole body system, will also be delineated. The human body has structures and processes inside the body that defend against infection and additional harmful foreign bodies. When working appropriately, the immune system detects a diversity of dangers, such as foreign bodies like bacteria, viruses, and parasites, and attacks them, leaving the healthy body tissue alone. The immune system also creates safeguards for the body to prevent disruptions of body processes by new pathogens, traumas, and mutations. There are major components that makes up the immune system spread throughout the body. The major organs involved in the body s immune response are the: bone marrow, thymus, circulatory, lymphatic system, dermis and mucosal tissues that work together in varied and complex interactions to provide the body with immune functions. The lymphatic system produces and stores cells that helps the body battle infection and diseases. The lymphatic system contains the following components: bone marrow, thymus, spleen, and lymph nodes. The lymph system allows the body to move fluids and cells outside the blood and circulatory system. The lymph system is the most important passageway ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Most likely you thought of players such as Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, or Charles Barkley. But, one name surpasses all others when it comes to NBA greats, that name is Michael Jordan. That recognition doesn t come with just being a good player, you have to be able to prove it and Michael Jordans six NBA championships and his 5 MVP s for certain just helps his case of being the best player of all time all that much more. • 7. Rebecca Film Techniques When Hitchcock wishes to exemplify a particular trait within his character, or reveal the personality of a character, he does so with classy elegance. Such emphasis is laid onto few, yet vital shots, which can reveal a whole lot of information in a few shots. Instead of using a wide range of methods to convey the same information, why not simplify it, and convey the entire array of emotions in a single, unique visual. For example; to exemplify the personality traits of a lady, any other director of the time would have probably used a wide array of shots to convey the same information. However Hitchcock says a whole lot, without saying much. In his filmRebecca, the director wants to hint at the shrewdness, or the mean traits within a particular character, and he achieves this by simply having the lady put out her cigarette, in something cold and delicate such as cold cream. By showing this visual, the director allows us to understand what type of character this lady is; without... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reaction that the lodger has upon seeing framed photographs of blonde women in his room, hint that he might quite possibly be the blonde killer everyone is looking for. However we later realise that his aversion to the blond girls comes from a tragic life event, where he lost his blonde sister to the blonde killer. Paintings in Hitchcock rarely play a merely decorative role. Instead, through their dynamic relation to the act of framing, they project an influence into the world of the character as conduits of guilt and desire pg name of the ... Criminalization of Poverty in Capitalist America Essay An anonymous poet in the 1700 s wrote about crime: The law will punish a man or woman who steals the goose from the hillside, but lets the greater robber loose who steals the hillside from the goose. [l] When talking about the greater robber it seemed particularly appropriate in the midst of the biggest financial rip off in history of this country to think about the billions of dollars the Savings Loan criminals stole, and about how most of them have gotten away with it. It is the power of propaganda. It is the ability to manipulate our ideas, to limit our agenda, to mold how we see, and to shape what we look at. It is the power to interpret the picture we see when we look at the world for the American people in general, and New Afrikans, in particular. It is the power to place the picture we see when we look at the world. It is the power to place a frame around the picture, to define where it begins and ends. It is, in fact, the power to define where our vision begins and ends, the power to create our collective consciousness. That kind of social propaganda is not only tremendously powerful, but it is also mostly invisible. We can t fight what we don t see. Most people accept the images and definitions that we have been taught as true, neutral, self evident, and for always; so that the power to paint the future, to define what is right and wrong, what is lawful and what is criminal, is really the power to win the battle for our minds. And to win it without ever having to fight it. Simply said, it is hard to fight an enemy who has an outpost in our minds. This indicates the need for revolutionary nationalists to develop a national agitationpropaganda mechanism. Specifically, nationalist need a single national publication and organ that represents the unified development of NAIM (The New African Independence Movement) to which ... • 11. Respect and Integrity in the Military Essay Respect and integrity, what really do those mean? I could look up those words in the Oxford English Dictionary or Websters, or Dictionary.com and give a scientific, perscise and exact answer to these words. And while that tells you what they mean, does that really give their meaning. Well by Dictionary.com s standards respect is a noun that means to hold in esteem or honor, and to show regard or consideration for. And Dictionary.com says that integrity means an adherence to moral and ethical principles; soundness of moral character, honesty, and the state of being whole, entire, or undiminished as to morality. The Army Value views respect as something that is just between people, yet at the same time it is also something that is between offices. Each rank is expected to show a certain respect for the ranks above them. In some units a private is expected respect a specialist, while both show respect for their sergeants. This has less to do with the specific people then it does with their experience and respect and of their peers and the people who are situated over them. As soldier we respect the ranks that are above us because their peers and other higher Sergeants have seen something in them. Some form of leadership, or the craftsmanship and mastery of their job that they have found some respect for them, and decided that they deserve to be honored for it. These are people who have seen many soldiers, and been in the Army long enough to recognize these traits in a person, and other people should respect that. • 12. Analysis Of Sears Holding Company ( Shld ) Introduction Sears Holding Company (SHLD) was once a very successful organization. Prior to the 1980 s, SHLD managed to generate revenue and compete among the top retailers in America (Kim, 2014). However, in more recent years, SHLD has become subject to scrutiny among industry s critics. As of late, SHLD has made several attempts to revive their organization. These attempts involve SHLD implementing corporate, business and functional leveled strategies within their organization. Corporate Level Strategies Every organization needs to create corporate level strategies. Corporate level strategies help organizations create plans and methods that will allow them to grow, no matter how the economy changes (Latham, 2014). SHLD used two different corporate level strategies to help them increase revenue and cut costs. The first corporate strategy used by SHLD is horizontal integration mergers. This strategy involved SHLD merging with K Mart. K mart decided to merge with Sears in 2004, in hopes that both stores can gain an competitive advantage over rival retail giants. Both SHLD and K Mart thought that they would be better suited to compete against Lowes and Home Depot; this is due to their potential inventory increase and availability from the merger. While merging seemed to open doors for both SHLD and K Mart, there was still a need for retrenchment. Holmes County Board Of Education The topic I ll be discussing will be the biasedness in media about a particular topic, the US Supreme Court s decision on the case of Alexander vs. Holmes County Board of Education. The case involved a previous Supreme Court ruling of Brown vs. Board of Education, where they gave schools to desegregate public schools with all deliberate speed. 15 years passed and school districts were still segregated, so the courts gave them till the beginning of the next year, 1970. This gave some schools a very abrupt shock as they had to conform to the decision. As something that opinionated, it allows news media to explore and write about such a topic. • 15. Manifesto Of The Communist Party The Communist Manifesto, originally drafted as, Manifesto of the Communist Party , is a pamphlet written by Karl Marx, that in essence reflects an attempt to explain the goals and objectives of Communism, while also explaining the concrete theories about the nature of society in relation to the political ideology. The Communist Manifesto breaks down the relationship of socio economic classes and specifically identifies the friction between those classes. Karl Marxessentially presents a well analyzed understanding of class struggles and the issues concerning capitalism, the means and modes of production and how those means affect the classes as a whole. Every society is structured or designed with the intention to form social classes; classes that will determine the social mobility of each individual living within it. Within the social hierarchy, there is inevitably one class that essentially oppresses the others. The Communist Manifesto features The Bourgeoisie and The Proletarians, and explains that the relationship between the two classes is a common frictional relationship that has occurred countless times throughout history. It explains that the modern Bourgeoisie will eventually fall, due to their inability to maintain a lifestyle for the proletarians; which is ultimately caused by the instability of capitalism. The goals of Communism are clearly set forward in the process. Marx informs us that Communism is established to achieve 3 major things: to solidly form ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Social Control In Deviance What is deviance? Deviance maintains the idea of nonconforming to societal norms with very outlandish ideas, thoughts, and action. They are many different types of deviances, ranging from subtle deviant behavior to extreme deviant behavior. The idea of a government creating certain sanctions, rules, and ideas to enforce a level of societal control and avoid chaos is social control. With social control is four different elements or variables to why deviants or criminals commit a crime; which is, attachment, commitment, involvement, and beliefs. The first variable of social control is attachment; attachment is when a person forms a certain type of emotional or mental identification and ties with certain things, people or ideas. For example, our attachment to our family, friends, personal items or pets show our level of sensitivity whereas those who lack that are considered more selfish. The second social control variable is commitment; which is an indirect type of rational element to the theory; which highlights the conventional lines in one s actions showing that there was motivation to invest in a type of social engagement or career. The action taking place is much more conventional, an example would be a commitment to pursuing a degree in a university even though the course curriculum is very challenging. The third social control variable is involvement, the lines of whichever activity that is felt comfortable along with the time spent on it. Such as a student preparing to ... Natural Law Vs Divine Command Theory The Theory of Natural Law, may be define in three aspects, there being a natural order in the world, everything having a purpose and how things are and how things ought to be. This theory also states that humans can distinguish between what is right or wrong through human reason/moral knowledge. On the other hand, the Divine Command Theory is a view of moralityand states that what s right or wrong is set by Gods moralcommands. God s commands tell us what is morally obligatory, permitted and wrong. The Natural Law tells that humans have a moral knowledge/reason that makes us able to decide what s right. This has caused various debates on whether people did the right because it was the right thing to do or because that s what God commands. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, not all the Ten Commandants are easy to follow or even go with the time we are living in. One of the Ten Commandants states that we should not take the name of the Lord in vain, yet today the Lord s name it s something we say on a daily basis. In addition, religious followers may decide to act in a harmful or negative way in society and defend themselves by saying that God has command them to do it; which may lead to extreme religions, where its followers may take every word of the book to heart and try to carry out those views on their society. This theory makes us question on whether who came first, God or right, which I believe that right came first. When comparing the Divine Command with the Minimum Conception, it can be deduced that both are very differing from each other. One of the reasons is that with the Divine Command, God chooses for us what it s right or wrong and if it became a moral system, atheists will feel out of place because they have a different set of believe just like other religions. In conclusion, while both the Natural Law Theory and the Divine Command Theory have aspects that I don t agree on, both brought interesting ways to look at the world and the origin of our morals. I believe that through my interpretation of Aristotle s philosophy, that we all have friends when seeing the world through Aristotle s philosophy. Aristotle describes friendshipas being made up of mutual feelings of good intentions between two individuals. According to him, there are 3 different types of friendships that make up the base of social interactions. The first out of 3 types of friendships that he talks about is Utility based friendships. These types of friendships are based on the benefits/trading that the two individuals can gain from each other. These are most often formed by individuals with opposite personalities. The decision making process involved in forming these types of relationships are based on long term benefit, or time to benefit ratio. This type of relationship is characterized as shallow, weak, and easily dissolved. The most problems occur in this type of relationship due to the deviation in valuing one another s service. Reaction Of The Maillard Reaction Introduction The non enzymatic reaction of reducing sugars with amino groups of amino acids, peptides and proteins is called as non enzymatic glycosylation or simply glycation. This non enzymatic reaction ultimately results in the formation of complex brown pigments and protein protein crosslinks that were first studied under defined conditions by Maillard in the early 1900s (Maillard and Gautier, 1912) and the reaction came to known as the Maillard reaction. There is a condensation reaction between reducing sugar and free amino acids at the amino terminus or susceptible Оµ amino group of lysine residues of proteins producing labile N substituted glycosylamine (Schiff base) that may undergo two sequential rearrangements, forming a stable Amadori product (Fayle Gerrard, 2002). The reducing sugars namely, glucose, fructose, galactose, mannose, ribose and certain carbohydrate relatives are inherently reactive toward nucleophilic groups. Glucose is the least reactive among common sugars because it exists in least concentration in the open chain form (Paulsen and Pflughaupt, 1980). Amadori rearrangement was a key early step in the Maillard reaction (Hodge, 1955). Early glycation directs the formation of Schiff s bases and Amadori products that further oxidized to advanced glycated end products (AGEs) (Chetyrkin et al., 2008). Model Of Self-Republicanism Unconsciously we all have a standard by which we measure other men, and if we examine closely we find that this standard is a very simple one, and is this: we admire them, we envy them, for great qualities we ourselves lack. Hero worship consists in just that. Our heroes are men who do things, which we recognise, with regret, and sometimes with a secret shame, that we cannot do. We find not much in ourselves to admire, we are always privately wanting to be like somebody else. If everybody was satisfied with himself, there would be no heroes (Mark Twain, 2013). Pearse had vowed to release Ireland from British rule and believed that this could be accomplished only by a blood sacrifice. Sands had vowed to set the republican prisoners free from their categorisation as criminals, and he too was convinced that only a redeeming act of self sacrifice would achieve this. • 43. Coca Cola Vs. Pepsi Cola Essay The smooth bold refreshing taste as the cold bubbles fizz on your tongue and head down your throat and into your stomach. Coca Cola is something the average American has drank in his or her lifetime. This has been in part due to the remarkably intelligent advertisements that were made in post 1945 America. While having emphasis on its refreshing cool taste and convenience, these ads created a certain attitude with its audience causing the rise in popularity and sales. During this same time Pepsi was also on the rise competing with Coca Cola. Both Coke and Pepsi used similar strategies but Coca Cola gave itself a slight edge through innovative technique and the use of lifestyle advertising. Coca Cola really did create a refreshing beverage but created an ad campaign using refreshing, exciting, and humorous ads that made your mouth water. Looking at both advertisements as a whole one notices how all of the ads for both companies are paintings of people, which makes people compare themselves to something that is not real. At this time many men and women were greatly affected by these ads. Women particularly would notice the unrealistic waistlines and flawless skin and tone. This caused them to become self conscience about their bodies because they believed those images to be something they were to copy. This technique plays with the psyche of our society, which is clever but very controversial. Established in 1886 and 1889, Coca Cola and Pepsi Co., respectively, were among ... In 2013, there were 26.5 births for every 1,000 adolescent females ages 15 19, or 273,105 babies born to females in this age group.1 Young, minority women between the ages of 15 and 24 appear to be at greater risk for becoming pregnant. Minority populations are also linked with low socioeconomic status, whether in terms of education or income, or both. Having low income and lower levels of education (the most commonly used measures of SES) were also associated with increased risk for unintended pregnancies, with 62% of pregnancies being unintended among those earning 200% of the FPL.2 In addition, with minority populations growing rapidly, many of these young women and their families live in smaller, more rural areas. According to one study, in rural and small town areas the Hispanic population increased by 1.9 million or 46 percent between 2000 and 2010.3 In rural areas there is often limited access to nearby health care facilities. With income, education and living inadequacies, these young women face complications with availability and ready access to contraception, and are therefore less likely to practice effective utilization of contraceptives. There is evidence that minority and low SES women are less likely to use contraception overall, use different contraceptive methods, and have higher rates of contraceptive failure than white and higher SES women.2 Cultural beliefs and ... • 52. An Innocent Man Wronged in Oleanna Essay Sometimes there are events in our lives that we cannot control. These events occur, more or less, due to our own actions. Sometimes, however, we must come to terms with our inability to handle certain situations and also to reach our goals. These events are facts of life everyone: some people can t run as fast, or liftas much, or write as well. It is during these times that we must focus on what we can do well, and try to direct our goals around those features that make us good at something. In David Mamets Oleanna, John loses his job and his house due to Carol s ignorance, lack of self confidence, and overall inabilityto come to terms with her own short comings as a student. This play epitomizes an act of complete degradation based... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... John and Carol are having a conversation about various topics and John tries to get Carol to express some kind of opinion on the subject: John: Well, let s address that. What do you think? Carol: I don t know. John: What do you think, though? (pause) Carol: I don t know. That exchange of dialogue on page 29 sums up Carol s lack of self confidence. She won t even take the plunge, and try to talk about a subject brought up in class. John tries to get her to give an opinion on a subject that carol obviously doesn t understand, in an attempt to help her comprehend. Carol doesn t believe that she has any ability, or else she would have at least tried to answer his question, a question that isn t hard in and of itself to understand What do you think? Other examples of her total lack of self confidence can be found earlier in the play: ...and I walk around. From morning til night: with this one thought in my head. I m stupid (12). What kind of person thinks of themselves as stupid, all the time? Carol obviously has no confidence in her abilities to do anything, and she feels that everyone around her thinks she s stupid as well. On the very next page even, Carol accuses John of calling her stupid. She is so deliberate in her belief that she takes what John says out of context, and turns it into an insult against her. • 53. Essay On The Restoration Of The New Netherlands Since the many splits and merges of various religions, it seems that the Jewish people have never seemed to be accepted in any other religious domain. In this Petition, the Jewish people have been kicked out of yet another country, Brazil, which was previously under the power of the typically religious tolerant Dutch. This petition is a way for the Jewish people to contact the Dutch West India Companyto address the fact that they are making it more difficult for the Jewish people to travel and live in another country. During this period multiple things were happening with the British colonies and with Great Britain itself. Some of these things include the first set of slave codes, the colonization of the Carolinas, Georgia, and East and West Jersey, but the two that I will be focusing on are the restoration of the Monarchy and the conquering of the New Netherlands by Great Britain. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Before this England didn t have a monarchy but instead has a man named Oliver Cromwell controlling all of England. In the 1660s, which most call the Restoration period, the monarchy was brought back to the throne by King Charles II. King Charles II changed the way that Great Britain thought about their colonies. He believed that the future of Great Britain rested in the colonies hands, so he changed how the way Great Britain dealt with the colonies. First, he granted allies control of areas of the colonies so that they could settle the area faster and be able to focus completely on said colony; this was different from the way the colonies were controlled before because they were Royal colonies, the King had complete control, but now they are called Proprietary colonies. This establishment of Proprietary colonies leads to the next topic of how Great Britain conquered the New ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. 8th Grade Singing Hello, There are quite a few pedagogical reasons why Rachel and I have decided to combine both choirs. Below are just a few. My 8th grade boys were having a hard time singing do to voice changes. I tried to keep the boys up in their falsetto and while this worked for a few boys the others we not able to produce certain notes. When boys voices start to change it can result in them only being able to sing a very limited amount of notes. We worked on high trills, sliding, humming, yawning, held long tones, among many of other to help support their changing voices. After our first concert I talked with my boys and they had mentioned that they felt very discouraged about singing because some of them simply are not producing notes or can only sing in a low rumble. Rachel mentioned to me that her boys were just starting to transition and she was noticing large gaps in her group as well. Combining both groups would result in a higher confidence level, tone production, and create a full choir sound. This is one of the reasons why we combined the groups. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although our Planned Course document does not differentiate between grade levels it is known in the musical world that 8th grade choir should be able to sing in easy three part harmony by the end of the year. Seventh graders are just being introduced into it by the end. The 8th graders have taken on the bulk of the three part harmony however having a small number of students and a group of boys with ever changing voices makes 3 part harmony almost impossible. To promote healthy singing and a confident choir it is important for them to be combined. Because the music is more difficult it will encourages the 7th graders to rise to the level of the 8th graders so when I have these students next year they have a great ... • 55. Evil In Plato s The Republic In The Republic Plato suggests that unless kings rule as philosophers or that philosophers rule as kings, there will always be evil, which is a logical fallacy that does not take into account the core of human nature, of which is to preserve oneself solely for the purpose of reproducing and continuing their bloodline. Platos take on a perfect city without evil by cause of it being ruled by a Philosopher King is an idea that makes absolute sense on paper, but would be irrational to try to conceive in real life. The notion that philosophyis the most important asset that a person can take advantage of is grounded and logical and holds true as a result of many modern day beliefs being rooted in Greek philosophy thus forming how people think and behave today, however due to the sheer number of people on this planet, as well as accounting the selfish nature of humans in general it is illogical to suggest that evil can be vanquished from within society. Plato even acknowledges his claim to be Paradoxical as it is quoted... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is because it does not matter where and what situation a person is placed in, they will always look out for number one. Such behaviour leaves nobody at fault necessarily, it is human nature to flaunt their possessions both to attract mates and to establish dominance over one another. This can be seen in the extravagant demeanor that people exhibit in an attempt to attract attention, such as B list celebrities performing spectacular stunts when the media s focus on them is wading, thus generating more hubbub over that person, leaving them in a state of euphoria over the eyes gleaned upon ...
