2. Valentine s Day Argumentative Analysis
Based on the article how valentine s day became a commercial juggernaut which is written by
Meera Dolasia, proves that valentine s day is becoming one of the most expensive holidays in
America. Valentine s day was first celebrated in Rome at the time of 270 AD, this was the time
of emperor Claudius II, when he was emperor, Rome was one of the most powerful tribes, they
conquered almost half of the world, but then the soldiers wanted to get married and have families,
so the emperor thought that his army was getting soft, he then made a law that no soldier was
allowed to get married. Valentine, a bishop, thought it was unfair to not let soldiers have a chance
to find love, so he held several weddings in his church for the soldiers. But soon... Show more

But people don t just buy random chocolates, they buy chocolates put into soft red heart shaped
cases. When we write cards on valentine s day, some people wonder how the idea of writing
cards on valentine s day even got made up. Well, a woman named Esther Howland also called
The Mother of the American Valentine , she was the first artist to sell handmade lace paper
cards featuring messages of love to retailers. With over than 145 million cards bought in the
USA and other countries, this also means that Valentine s day is now one of the biggest revenue
generators for greeting card factories. The fabulous idea of boxing chocolates in fancy heart
shaped cases came from Richard Cadbury, the founder of Cadbury s cocoa and chocolate
company. Jewelry, flowers, chocolates, cards are all really important because jewelry marks
special times in your life that you want to remember, and also jewelry can be passed down

3. The Importance Of Teaching For The Success Of The Team And...
Coaching has become more than just instructions, the expectations of creating leaders is now just
as important as performance. The education that goes into shaping coaches today takes creativity
and new technology to stay current with the ever changing landscape of sports.
The importance of educating coaches is vital to the success of the team and the athletes involved.
Having a strong foundation to build the team on starts with a coach who has taken the time to learn
about all the resources available to have more tools to teach. Everyone has a role to play in
achieving a successful team. Establishing an information flow that starts at the top, and reaches
the bottom will be the key in providing an educational environment. This information flow only
works if the information flows back up. It takes a certain type of person to inspire and motivate a
group of professionals. One needs to learn how to follow to become a great leader. Translating
information to function is a talent not everyone can do, that is why there are just a handful of hall
of fame coaches.
There are several methods that will improve the education in coaching. There are three topics that
will give the best opportunity to have a greater impact on the improvement for not just the coach,
but the athletes who play a game they love. The first crucial aspect in improving coaching is
knowing what the future has in store for changes within society, identities of coaches along with
athletes, and the ever

4. Coach Jim Harbaugh s Takeover Case Study
The Michigan Wolverines first year under new head coach Jim Harbaugh has concluded. With a
crushing defeat over the Florida Gators in the Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl, the Wolverines
capped an impressive 2015 16 campaign with double digit victories (10 3). Michigan
quarterback Jake Rudock threw for 278 yards and three scores in the 41 7 blowout of Florida,
showing his development under Harbaugh. Looking for proof of Harbaugh s ability to develop
quarterbacks? Look no further than the fifth year Wolverines signal caller this past season.
Rudock began the season with an atrocious road performance against Utes in Utah, throwing three
picks, including an interception that was returned for the game winning touchdown. In the 12
games following the 24 17 loss to Utah, Rudock threw 18 touchdowns and just 6 interceptions.
The Wolverines quarterback finished the season with more than 3,000 yards through the air,
completing nearly 65 percent of his passes. Harbaugh s first year in Ann Arbor, Mich. was
nothing short of spectacular, especially considering it followed the Wolverines disappointing 5 7
campaign in 2014. However, former Michigan head coach Brady Hoke s recruiting job shouldn t be

5. Kwame Anthony Appiah Cosmopolitanism
Utilizing a wide variety of subjects, including literature, history, and philosophy as well as his own
personal experiences, Kwame Anthony Appiah through his novel Cosmopolitanism: Ethics in a
World of Strangers, seeks to explain the similarities and differences of the people that inhabit the
world. Prehistoric hunters and gatherers formed close knit communities which were founded upon
survival, humanity, in turn, was shaped by those experiences. Centuries later, those close knit
communities have expanded into kingdoms, cities, nation states, and world order. Appiah states
that, cosmopolitanismbegins with the simple idea that in the human community, as in national
communities, we need to develop habits of coexistence: conversation in its older meaning, of living
together, association (Appiah, xix). Here, Appiah reminds humans that we have been living beside
each other since the beginning of time. However, even though the world is expanding; it is also
shrinking, metaphorically, as a consequence of globalization. Individuals only in the past couple of
centuries have had the ability to affect each other indirectly through shared resources and common
enemies. Neither nationality, gender, nor state boundaries, have moral status with respect to
questions of justice. Despite the reasons to value our relationships with our local citizens these
reasons do not justify inequalities in the well being of people inhabiting different geographical
territories.

In this TMA I have met the ethical requirements of the E105. I complied with the ethical
guidance published by BERA, 2011 under the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the
Child (UNCRC) by informing parents and giving them the option to withdraw their child from
participating; as some children were of an age where they had a limited understanding of the
purpose of the investigation (BERA, Guidelines 16 21, 2011). I explained to parents and
colleagues why I was carrying out the observations, and that I would comply with the Data
Protection Act 1998 by making my findings anonymous and it will only read by my tutor. I

Osaka Sushi and Hibachi, Roseville, Minnesota, 5PM. Feeling a bit nauseous, nervous, walking
up to the entrance of the restaurant, mother and grandmother a few steps in front of me. Today
was the day, I waited three months for, the day in which I get to try Japanese cuisine. What
should be expected? What if it tastes less than desirable? Will my etiquette be correct? I prepared
and researched several hours in advance regarding this. Once inside the restaurant, following
closely, the three of us were seated at an interesting table; like none of other restaurants in the area.
A large, open, flat topped stove stands in the center, behind it, a chef stands, smiling as we sit down
and open the thick menu of food items. Scanning the chef, noting his tall white hat, his crisply clean
white apron, black uniform, posture, it s not difficult to tell that he had been an employee for a
significant amount of time.
Flipping through the menu, it was apparent the variety of sushi, sashimi and nigiri was
overwhelming. Luckily enough, my mother and grandmother came into this with a plan. Initially
we ordered our drinks, personally I ordered a Japanese soda, and when it was brought to the table
I was surprised by the appearance of the bottle alone. A rather curved glass overall, the bottom
portion was similar to that of other bottles of soda made from glass, but your eye drew upward.

The extra credit assignment I chose to talk about was the Informal and Formal deviance talked
about in Dalton Conley s book You may ask yourself . According to Conley, there are two forms of
deviance, formal and informal. The informal aspect is one where there is no law being broken but
more along the lines of breaking a social norm. The second form of deviance is formal and this is
where a law is broken and you will be punished accordingly (Conley, D. 2017. P. 191). In my image

On July 18, 1812, the United States declared war on Great Britain which started the War of
1812. The war began because of a military conflict between the United States and Great Britain.
The war lasted from 1812 to 1814. The War started when the colony of Great Britain and Canada,
got invaded by the Americans. The war was fought in many different places such as, Upper
Canada, Lower Canada, on the Great Lakes, the Atlantic, and in the U.S. The war was a big
dispute between the U.S. and the British Empire. The British limited the American trade system
because they were afraid it would be damaging to their war with France. They also wanted to have

Since the issues of rights were not determined in the peace treaty, the war was considered a
failure. However, the Americans had some impressive victories at sea, which gave them the
potential of becoming an American power (i.e., footnote 1). The war was definitely a failure for
the War Hawks, who desired to invade Canada. The war proved that this was not doable for their
military to do. In conclusion, the war was a war of honor and respect and not to be judged (i.e.,
footnote 1).
The War of 1812 had a big effect on America and how the world viewed the developing nation.
America was now viewed as a nation that was strong and capable to endure two wars with the

America and their abilities. Without a doubt, the War of 1812 played a huge role in the

song that has captured the hearts of audiences of all ages around the world for decades. In this

imaginative journey, as she tells us her story of desperate hope to escape the place she lives in
order to make a better life for herself elsewhere, and the obstacles she must overcome to do so.

the reason we embark on a journey, as well as exploring the fact that taking a physical journey

Investigating Athens Treatment of Her Allies
During the period of 478 431, Athens treatment of her allies changed dramatically as she rose to
become the leader of an empire. The establishment of the Delian League marked the beginning of a
significant series of events, which lead to Athens rise to extreme power. From the evidence of
Thucydides and the inscriptions, it is possible to track the progress of these events and the rapidly
changing treatment that Athens enforced upon her allies.
The Delian League was an establishment formed in 478 BC. A large number of Greek cities

Athens decided which of the allied states would contribute ships and which would contribute
money. This was an early stage in the Athens leadership, yet although there are no signs of change
in her treatment towards the allies, there is distant indication of inequality. As well as organising
funds, Athens also appointed Hellenic Treasurers who would collect the contributions from each of
the money paying states. However, these treasurers were Athenian (known as hellenotamiae). It
would be considered fairer to have appointed treasurers from different members of the alliance for
a stronger sense of equality. It is possible that Athens is already enforcing her authority upon her
allies at this early stage in the development of the league.
Athens also had great power as leader. An oath sworn by all members of the league indicated that
Athens would hold the place of leadership and authority for as long as the league was established.
By dropping iron weights into the sea, the oath was symbolic that Athens reign of leadership was
permanent. Athens stood faithfully by this oath, even when Persia was finally defeated at
Eurymedon in 468 BC. This meant that the league no longer had a purpose, yet Athens began to
show a new determination to gain total control over the states that she had won leadership over in
terms of the league. Cities such as Naxos

They were able to accomplish demands that had plagued their lives for years. Without the use of

played a more transformative role. These two groups embody the spirit of transformation towards a
better working life. Anthracite coalmining consisted of differing levels of skill and precision that
could be lucrative depending upon the miner s luck. A coal miner would be lucky to find steady
employment, or to even survive to the day s end. The procedures involved in preparing the coal
from the mines to the shipping was filled with dangers that led the industry as one of the world s
most hazardous. Mine owners to maintain overhead costs and keep mine workers in the industry,
would tactfully engage in underemployment. This left workers in state of constant need for more
work, or higher wages to offset working part time. These Anthracite miners were largely paid more
than the average miner, but

21. Abolish The Canadian Senate
The Canadian Senate has been a long standing problematic section of the Canadian government
and since its creation in 1867 and has been scrutinized for its effectiveness and purpose. In recent
years, concerns have been raised and approaches have been suggested into reforming the Senate.
Those in favour of taking drastic measures to reform or even abolish the Senateagree that the Senate
is not functioning and not a trustworthy part of Canadian government. However, there are those
who view that the Senate can still be saved say it has a purpose in the Canadian government since it

For the maintenance of the Senate there are four proposed approaches; minor renovation,
deferred abolition, housekeeping, and maintenance of the Senate. Firstly, minor renovations
would cause only small changes that would not make the Senate go through the amending
formula. These small changes would enforce term limits and allow for voters to select nominees
for the upper chamber (Brodie 2013). Although not direct elections this will make the Senate
more democratic since Canadians will be allowed to have some say in plausible Senators rather
than them being solely appointed by the Prime Minister. Deferred abolition (or demolition)
would postpone any changes until the federal election in 2025. This approach would put a gun to
the head of the status quo: you have ten years to achieve reform...or it s lights out in the Red
Chamber (Morton 2013). By having pressure put on the Senate the hope is to start change since
there is a time limit on what can be done. There has always been talk about what needs to be
changed but by putting a time limit on change will encourage the Senate to start to take the steps it
needs to be effective. Another approach is the approach of housekeeping, which consists of change
being started from within the Senate itself. Housekeeping calls for more transparency and for the
Senate to be held accountable (Black 2013). For the

The Myth of Money and Success
The American Dream is different for everyone, though it is most commonly associated with
success, freedom, and happiness. The concept of the American Dream seems to have dwindled
from where it was in the past few generations. It has gone from success, freedom, and happiness to
having lots of money and the nicest possessions. In today s society, we all hope and strive for this
dream, but how many actually achieve the American Dream? Is it a reasonable goal that Americans
should strive for, or is it a myth that only leads to self destruction? According to Horatio Alger and
Toni Cade Bambara, they both believe the concept that the AmericanDream ... Show more content

Today, as well as back in the 1800 s when the story was written, most people s dreams are to
achieve success. This formally became known as The American Dream . Although this may
seem strange for everyone to have the same idea, it really isn t when you look at it with an open
perspective. Each and every person s perception of success is extremely different and individual,
which makes everyone s dreams different. There may be people who strive for big goals, and
there may be others who take it one day at a time, achieving happiness on a less formal level. In
comparing the time period of the story to our society today, there are many similarities and
differences to consider. According within the world we live today, people tend to set much higher
goals and expectations for themselves, whereas, in Ragged Dick, it was more of a day to day type
situation. When people set smaller, more realistic goals, it results in more happiness and comfort
in their lifestyle. However, in today s world, Americans have become so incredibly competitive
and successful, that the standards have been significantly raised to the point where personal
happiness is no longer good enough. After reading a novel like Horatio Alger s Ragged Dick, you
subconsciously make yourself realize the important underlying message that he is trying to portray.
To me, this message is to always be optimistic, and no matter how bad your life is, it can always

Main problem: Toyota Motor Manufacturing, U.S.A. (TMM) is deviating from the standard
assembly line principle of jidoka in an attempt to avoid expenses incurred from stopping the
production line for seat quality defects. This deviation has contributed to the inability to identify
the root cause of the problem, which has led to decreased run ratios on the line and an excess of
defective automobiles in the overflow lot for multiple days. If this problem isn t fixed quickly, an
increased amount of waste will continue to be incurred and customer value will be threatened.

2.Immediately cease the deviation to production process and go back to jidoka and the andon pull
standards, which would mean stopping production when defective seats are encountered.
3.Go back to the traditional production process, but have in stock a small buffer of seat inventory to
call on when defective seats are encountered on the line. So let s evaluate these alternatives. By
implementing the first solution, to continue the attempt to solve the problem off the line, the
benefits are no stoppage to the production process, and therefore, a potential cost savings. However,
this benefit is short term. The downsides are numerous and most likely more costly in the long run.
Until the problem is solved run ratios will continue to be low, defects will be high, and the
overflow lot will continue to grow excessive waste will continue to happen. In addition, customer
value will continue to be threatened. Also, by stopping the production line time and time again to
deal with the defective seat, the flow of the production line will still be disrupted. And, since this
alternative might not utilize those employees that are closest to the production line, there is a large
risk that the root cause of the problem will never be uncovered. TPS philosophy stands by the fact
that the employees are their greatest asset, as they have been trained to get the root of the problem.

emphasized upon me the advantages of democracy, I have always believed that it is the best system
to implement in a country. Ignoring the flaws and weaknesses of this type of system, I thought that
the benefits outweigh all costs. I assume that giving the power to the people is better than having
one person rule the state. However, in Platos account on the life of his mentor Socrates, we are able
to see both sides of the spectrum: the pros and cons of democracy which are accounted in Plato s
dialogues, the Apology and the Crito. Socrates, having been accused of impiety, is brought to trial

Yet, he implies that the people would not favor anyone that opposes injustice which seems to be
the common dealings in politics. He believes that he would have died long ago (34), although this
is not his ultimate concern. What he truly cares about is not to do anything unjust or impious (32).
Despite his criticisms on politics, Socrates is essentially reminding the people, especially those in
authority, to serve a just and virtuous life. Outwardly stating the current situation of the
government, he aims to provide the people a portrait of the shallow kind of democracy that they
have come to maintain. Socrates seeks to prompt the majority to uphold the true sense of
democracy, of fighting for justice and living life accordingly. Furthermore, Socrates uses his
dialectical approach with his friend Crito in examining the contrast between the knowledge of the
one and the pseudo knowledge of the many . He uses an analogy of a man involved in physical
activities, whom must listen to the advice of the true expert in his training, rather than the opinions
thrown by other people who barely know anything about these activities. Anyone who places a
higher regard to the thoughts of the majority, rather than to the knowledge of the one who possess
it, puts himself on greater harm (47). Socrates adds that if we disobey the one who seeks to

28. One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest Analysis
In Ken Kesey s One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest, a story is told through the eyes of a large
Columbian Indian who is a patient at a mental institution. His story explains all that has
happened since he has been there. The key to his success is that no one seems to acknowledge
his existence and would not hide secrets around him because he was thought to be deaf and
dumb. He finds a way to learn everything that has happened, and he will eventually meet a
revolutionary man who will change both his life and the ward forever. The story also has a very
common theme involving the women within it. Kesey makes most of the women in the story
manipulative and overbearing. Mrs. Bromden and Mrs. Bibbit are two examples of the women
who have handicapped men in their lives. Comparing these two and what they did will give a
better perspective on how Chief and Billy turned out the way they did. Through the power these
women had over the men in their lives, it is clear to the audience now why Chief, his father, and
Billy all turned out the way they did based upon the way they were belittled and manipulated by
Mrs. Bromden and Mrs. Bibbit.
For starters, Mrs. Bromden was the first to begin the process of belittling Chief Bromden and his
father. She marries the Chief of the Columbian Indians and has him change his name instead of
her. Chief explains this to McMurphy the night before the fishing trip as he says, My Papa was a
full Chief and his name was Tee Ah Millatoona... (Kesey 219).Bromden

H. Richard Niebuhr s work, Christ and Culture, presents a fivefold typology to describe the different
ways Christians understand the interrelation between God, human beings, and culture, and the
inherent nature of each of these categories. Niebuhr begins by talking about Christians who
understand Christin diametric opposition to an inherently sinful culture. These Christians see
Christ calling them to tear down culture or enter into monastic communities to guard themselves
from it. Niebuhr ends his typology by describing Christians who see Christ s work as the work of
redemption. Christ transforms people by converting us back to our original state so that we might
glorify God and change society so that it likewise reflects this change in personhood. Jose Porfirio
Miranda s brand of liberation theologyadopts the logic of these Niebuhrian types while offering a
unique constructive perspective. In this paper, I will explain Niebuhr s construction of Christ
against Culture and Christ transforming culture before applying these types to Miranda s theory
of justice and discussing the way in which Miranda s description of Christians in the public sphere
resonates with these Niebuhrian categories. I will then discuss what Niebuhr and Miranda offer to
people of faith, I will apply their insights to the current presidential campaign, and then I will

33. Gilgamesh Hero Definition
When opening a dictionary someone will see a hero defined as A person who is admired for
their courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities . With this in mind, does this apply to
all people like Gilgamesh, Odysseus, and others deemed heroes ? A hero is more than just it s
dictionary definition, there are many different types of heroes from amoral, to epic. The idea of
there being one set definition of what a herois inherently flawed since subjectively a hero can be
twisted to what anyone wants it to be.
A Hero is often classified as powerful and strong and caring, the former two are especially
important in ancient times. For example, Gilgamesh, the protagonist of the Epic of Gilgamesh
who was described as a tyrant and because of his power and strength all the people of reach were
brought beneath his sway.( Gilgamesh 21) Gilgamesh does demonstrate heroic qualities, but is
also incredibly cocky, (after Enkidu dies) very whiny, selfish, scared of his own mortality. He
doesn t decide to be a better ruler after a long period of time. The same can be said for Miguel
Leonzo. He described often described as conniving, and cunning. As an illustration, on page 235,
Liss writes, Parido had trapped himself within his own scheme, and the world would now see
who was the cleverer man. Miguel would win this battle in a manner worthy of Charming Pieter

favor of facts. With its opening exclamation of Facts, facts, facts! Charles Dickens immediately

Gradgrind, in order to provide better context for the ideological conflict between Sleary s Circus
and utilitarianism. While Dickens conspicuously decorates the circus people with fairytale imagery,
he only seems to arrange these imaginative descriptions around Gradgrind in a situation where it
would highlight his differences. A prime example of this situation is when Gradgrind reminisces the
method he taught his children, annunciating that the first object of which they had remembrance
was a large blackboard with a dry Ogre chalking ghastly white figure on it. Not that they knew, by
name or by nature, anything about an Ogre. Fact forbid! Though not spoken in reference to Sleary s
circus, Dickens elaborates on the relationship between the circus people and the Gradgrinds. On one
hand, the circus people readily embrace imagination, it being part of their nature. On the other hand,
when Gradgrind even contemplates an ogre, he is greatly disconcerted. Furthermore, Gradgrind s
thought process further delineates the mindset of those infatuated with the facts, facts, facts,
philosophy. As evident from Dicken s abundant use of fairytale imagery, Sleary s circus symbolizes
both imagination and childhood, neither of which appeal to straitlaced ideals of

C.S. Lewis once said, Hardships often prepare ordinary people for an extraordinary destiny.
Everyone at one point or another faces some sort of hardship in their life. No matter how big the

very few difficulties. I consider myself lucky to have the things I do, because I know others aren

never had to worry if there would be food on the table that night. When I had to face difficulties

Another great influence on Education was the Greek philosopher and scientist Aristotle who came

time, just like his teacher Plato. That philosophy was about children being educated as small adults,
and so they were taught with adult literature considering their minds as able to absorb and task like
those of the adults. According to Aristotle, the goal of education is to struggle to achieve the
greatest goodness and happiness being a member in a city. Most of his philosophy about educating
children could be found in the Nicomachean Ethics and Politics; and here he relates to politics as
he considers human beings naturally to be political. That is in the social sense, as no one could

38. Film Analysis Of The Romantic Genre And Movie Rocky
Genre theory is used to study films and put them into a classification so that audiences know
what type of film it is before they see it. Genres are categories based on the story of the film,
sometimes the actors and actresses, or even the directors. All films fall under a genre or sub genre
category. Romantic Comedyis an example of a genrewhich is light hearted, humorous story
involving people in love, sometimes overlapping with subgenres such as screwball comedy teen
comedy, or gross out comedy. ( Goodykoontz Jacobs, 2014, table 4.1). This paper will focus on
the romantic comedy genre and movie Rocky. It will take a better look at the specific conventions
of this genre and how this movie fits the gangster genre. Romantic comedy films create a comic
climate through a series of cues to the audience: subject matter is treated as trivial, jokes and
physical humor make fun of events, and characters are protected from harm (Grindon Leger (2015).
Romantic comedy films usually have a couple that meet and fall in love in some way throughout
the movie. In the movie Rocky Sylvester Stalloneas Rocky meets Adrian at the pet shop and
realizes she is the women he wants to be with. Rocky is a want to be boxer at the time who
wants to be a professional boxer and knows Adrian s brother from the gym. When Rocky sees
Adrian through the window of the pet shop he uses the excuse that he buys a fish and asks her
out. Adrian agrees and she is a very bashful lady, she dresses and looks very homely. Rocky and
Adrian starting dating and she supports him through his boxing career. The couple falls in love
and they get married. Adrian starts dressing nice and gets contacts to the point you see her
transform into a beautiful lady by the end of the film. The genre of Romantic comedy is pairing
two individuals into a couple with some comedy which Rocky proves to have. The comedy part
would be where Adrian asks Rocky why he boxes and he says because he can t dance or sing .
Throughout the film there are little conventions to show the comedy. The film Rocky the first
convention would be the setting. In the film it is set in 1976 in the low income part of
Philadelphia. This shows the Rocky and Adrian started out

Poor hygiene, packed housing conditions, and low immunization leads to the incidence of a variety

American Eugenics:
The Cost of Ignoring Our History
The world is well aware that the acts of the Nazis were atrocious. This is not something one has to
affirm, and is due, in large part, to an understanding of World War II and Hitler s attempts to
achieve Aryan purity. Germans have taken responsibility and shown remorse for their government s
actions. The United States role as leaders in the eugenics movement of the early 1900 s remains
unknown by most Americans, even to many American scholars. The American eugenics movement,
is at least partially responsibility for Hitler s actions, at it laid ... Show more content on

By tracing the impacts of this movement, one can gain a better understanding of how fear and
devaluing of people with disabilities became deeply embedded in our culture. Doctors were still
calling people with disabilities burdens, segregating them in institutions, sterilizing them, and
treating them as subhuman as late as the 1970 s. Today, many people still treat people with
disabilities as burdens and with fear. During the height of eugenics in America, medical research
was being done on people with disabilities (Groce and Marks, 2000). This is a clear equivalent to
the status of animal, as only animals and people with disabilities were used in the manner;
comparing people with disabilities to animals remains part of our medical and academic culture. In
fact, Groce and Marks (2000) challenged anthropologists who consider the value of non human
primates higher than other animals because of their similarities to people with disabilities,
connecting these arguments to the American eugenics movement. While the result of the eugenics
movement was to devalue people with disabilities, and anthropologists in this case intended to
increase the value of the life of the primate, in both instances, the

42. ButlerВґs Characterization Shori
How could it feel so good when it should be disgusting and painful? (Butler 75) These words
spoken by Theodora, an elderly white woman, about her symbiotic and sometimes sexual
relationship with Shori, a black elfin little girl (Butler 75), express a societal fear that Octavia
Butler exposes in her characterization of Shori as a monster. Jeffrey Jerome Cohen asserts in his
Seven Thesis of Monster Culture that monsters reevaluate our cultural assumptions about race,
gender, and sexuality our perception of difference, and our tolerance toward its expression. (Cohen)
Shori is a monster because her very existence testifies to the blurring of historically concrete lines of
difference. She simultaneously exhibits traits that are maleand... Show more content on

Butler presents another challenge to ordinary thinking about gender when she presents the Ina as a
matriarchal society. The venom of femaleIna is significantly more potent than male venom. In
addition, male Ina become dependent on Female Ina for procreation. Once they re addicted, they
aren t fertile with other females, and from time to time, they need their females (Butler 89). The
characterization of the Ina society as a matriarchy as well as the fact that Ina men are dependent on
Ina women is evidence that the monsters in Fledgling obscure gender roles that are prevalent in
traditional American society.
Shori also challenges society s fears about sexuality by taking sexual liberties with several
partners, old and young, male and female. The first example of othering in Shori s sex life is that
she looks like a ten year old. It is not acceptable in the minds of most people in American society
for a child to be sexual with adults as in the case of Shori and Wright as well as Shori and Joel.
Another example is the homosexual relationship that Shori embarks upon with Theodora, an
elderly woman. I whispered to her, is it good? She moaned a little satisfied sound (Butler 25).
Shori and Theodora enjoy a relationship that many conservative members of American society
would be anxious about She kissed me. After a moment of surprise, I kissed her back. I held her,
and she seemed very comfortable in my arms (Butler 38). The sexual nature

For the millions of years that organisms have survived in the Earth s superficial environments, they
have adapted to their surroundings in order to survive. This concept of evolution is firmly asserted
with who survives and who is left behind to perish. Many discoveries have affirmed that humans as
well as plants and animals have developed over thousands of years to postpone their eradication
through various growths. Everything from the segments in their spine to the smallest bone in their
ear is a collaboration of their predecessors and their environment. Dr. Neil Shubin has uncovered a

The Outsiders English teachers in middle schools and high schools have been through many
debates over the years on whether or not a certain book should be taught to students in United
States public schooling systems. The Outsiders, is a book that should not be on the list of banned
books. Believe it or not the book has been banned from schools and libraries. The Outsiders should
not be banned because it provides valuable life lessons involving loyalty. Books like this one, that
involve gangmembers, fighting, shooting, stabbing and other gory incidents, should be portrayed to
kids in middle schooland beyond. This generation that people are growing up in nowadays is a
weak, soft generation who need to realize that the world is not always going to be kind to them.
The neighborhoods that a lot of kids live in are safe environments, which is not a bad thing, but
they are unaware of the horrible things that go on in the ghettos or other places in our nation.
Books are a great way to reach out to kids and show them valuable life lessons while also giving
them learning experiences through that English class they are enrolled in. The author of this
novel, The Outsiders, Susan Eloise Hinton, is a very popular author of young adult fiction stories
and she is especially popular in the Oklahoma area because she makes the setting in a lot of her
books from that area. She wrote the books That Was Then, This Is Now, Rumble Fish, Tex, and

4G: The Fourth Generation: The fourth generation of mobile telecommunication technology is 4G
the short form of Fourth generation, succeeding 3G. It allows users to connect anytime, anywhere,
anyhow.
пЃ¶HISTORY:
The first generation of mobile communications started with the Advanced Mobile Phone Systems
(AMPS), which was an analogue system regarded as 1G. Then came GSM and CDMA one (pretty
much regarded as 2G) and then to UMTS and EV DO, which are 3G technologies. The latest
technologies for 4G are LTE (from the 3GPP group) and 802.16m (from the IEEE). In the case of
802.16m, the candidate for 4G is also known as Wireless MAN Advanced, or WiMAX2. LTE
progresses through versions known as releases. The latest release that qualifies as being 4G is ...

пЃ¶ADVANTAGES OF 4G MOBILE NETWORKS:
The most obvious advantage of the 4G mobile network is its amazing speed. Increased bandwidth
leads to much faster data transfer speed, which is especially advantageous for mobile devices.
Users of the 4G network get the advantage of superior, uninterrupted connectivity, especially for
advanced tasks such as video chats and conferences. The younger generation of mobile device
users can stream music, videos and movies at a much faster rate and can also easily share
information online.
4G networks offer much more coverage than other systems such as Wi Fi, which forces users to
depend upon hotspots in each area you visit. Since 4G offers a coverage of 30 miles and more,
users would be assured of complete connectivity at all times.
One of the biggest problems with Wi Fi networks is that of online security which is especially true
for mobile devices. 4G networks offer complete privacy, security and safety. It is very beneficial for
corporate establishments and business persons, who hold sensitive information on their respective

depicting images from modern day locations as well as art from the time period. These

Many views have come up due to the advancement of the world collectively, some believe it has
only benefited society has a whole while others say it has brought only destruction to the social and
cultural aspects. Two professors at highly ranked universities discuss their views on Globalization

through the spread of intellectual ideas and how it takes one great idea to spread across the globe.
Amartya Sen has a positive outtake on the developing nature on Globalization. He believes the

Gherardo of Cremona, in his translations from the Arabic, rendered jaib as the Latin sinus, the
corresponding word for a cove or a bay. (Sen 2012, 18). Math is one language that is the same in

50. Budgeting and Compliance Issues in Healthcare
Budgeting and Compliance Budgeting and compliance issues are very important to healthcare.
Budgeting ensures the quality of care given to patients, what technologies the hospital has
available, and how staff gets paid, determining raises and benefits. Waste of time and supplies are
damaging to the budget. Compliance issues are what determine the standards of care given to
patients. They also set standards for safety of both patients and staff. Non compliance can cause
fines for the facility and loss of accreditation, which in turn causes losses of reimbursements from
Medicare, Medicaid, and insurance. Safety issues can cause people to get hurt and, in turn, cause
lawsuits for individuals and the organization. The costof lawsuits and employee injuries can be very
damaging to a budget. Healthcare workers also stand the chance of consequences in
noncompliance issues. Fines, legal consequences, termination, and lose of professional licenses
can occur. Both operational and capital budgets are made up by the CFO, Chief Financial
Officer, and approved by the CEO, Chief Executive Officer, and the Board of Directors.
(Operational Review of the Health Care Corporation of St Johns, 2002) The operational budget is

people who came from different backgrounds, values, goals, and perceptions of acceptable
behaviors have to work together under the same roof, it ll be quite difficult for the organization
to avoid the ethical issues. The ethical issues that I have experienced in my previous workplace
are: Ethical issues of employee: Some of workmate did not come to the office on time. Some of
them even cheated the starting time by asking other people to log in the system in behave of
them. During working hours, some employee may still hang around or chitchat or even enjoy
his food. Ethical issue of employer: Did not pay for overtime to employees. Some employee had
incomplete job. She came to work for another 6 hours on the rest day after six consecutive
normal work days. Pregnant woman will not accept to apply for a job. Foreign workers had a
fight because their working opinion was quite different. 2. Discuss how the ethical issues or

52. Color Red Research Paper
In the bird world, it is a well known fact that the male of the species sports feathers of many
different eye catching colors. Consider the peacock s tail, the robin s red breast, the jay s bright
blue, and the multi hued mallard duck all in stark contrast to the dull, drab, earth tones of the
female of each of those species. The scientific literature, from elementary school textbooks to
graduate students theses, is full of many reasons why this is so, ranging from mating practices to
the protection of the offspring from danger. Humans, too, may have psychological or instinctual
connections to color. One may be having a blue day, demonstrating sadness, or it may be a red

When presented with the color red, test takers were less able to complete the anagrams and the
matching tasks, they requested more easy questions, and they scored lower on the IQ tests.
Additionally, these participants EEG readings indicated higher measures of avoidance responses
in the prefrontal cortex. Further, the participants who had to move to an adjacent room walked
more slowly and knocked fewer times on the door, and the motion sensors indicated they inclined
their bodies away from the test booklets when the books were red. In each instance, seeing red, as
opposed to any of the other colors used (gray, green, black, or white) led participants to worse
performance and more performance anxiety. The researchers partially describe these results as a

Black cats, animal abuse, schizophrenia, a fire and murder, Edgar Allan Poe s The Black Cat
checks all the boxes for a dark romantic piece of literature. The focus is taken off of the grotesque
details of abuse and murder but shifted towards the narrator s inner conflict. Poe s obsession with
exploring the human psyche is prevalent in this short story. Readers struggle to understand the
logic, if any, behind the actions of the unreliable narrator as he grapples with his own mind, or a
supernatural force. Edgar Allan Poecombines internal conflict and symbolism to express the theme
of transformation from innocence to evil and introduce a schizophrenic mindset that cannot

Edgar Allan Poe s use of symbolism in The Black Cat subtly hints at the supernatural aspect of
the story. The Evil Eye which plagued the protagonist of The Tell Tale Heart makes a
reappearance. Both Pluto and the second black cat have only one eye, and the narrator describes
the second black cat s solitary eye of fire (Poe 401) as he alarmed the investigators of the corpse
in the tomb. The narrator s claim of love for Pluto and the subsequent black cat developing into
blind hatred and blame placed on them also mirrors the protagonist in The Tell Tale Heart. The
narrator blames the cats for his affliction. Pluto signifies innocence, disfigured and eventually
murdered by the narrator at the beginning of his spiral into madness. Pluto s Evil Eye is quickly
destroyed by the narrator, but is replaced with the phantasm. The phantasm haunts the narrator,
appearing after the house burns down and destroys his wealth. The phantasm also appears on the
second black cat s chest, tormenting the narrator with a reminder of his first murder. The second
black cat is the narrator s shot at redemption. His similarity to Pluto and willingness to endure the
narrator s abuse gave him a chance to redeem his innocence. Once the protagonist commited the
murder of his wife, the black cat gave up on him. Although the cats represent innocence and
redemption, the narrator s
