The Importance Of Informed Consent
What is informed consent and when, why and how must the physician obtained this consent? From the
Medicine Net they defined Informed Consent as The process by which a patient learns about the
procedure, understands the purpose, benefits, and potential risks of a medical or surgical intervention,
including clinical trails, and then agrees to receive the treatment or participate in the trial. Informed
consent generally requires the patient or responsible party to sign a statement confirming that they
understand the risks and benefits of the procedure or treatment.
Informed consent needs to be obtained by the physician when a procedure with anesthesia is used, if
the patient is undergoing any type of surgery, a procedure that is entering the body through the skin or
through a body cavity, or if the patient is asked to be in a clinical research trial. This type of consent is
necessary so the patient and the physician are both on the same page of the patient s understanding
and willingness to participate in the procedure. It is also for the patient to know their right to stop the
procedure before or during the procedure. It also informs the patient that if they do not want the
procedure they have alternatives they can choose from.
The American Medical Association describes the 8 steps on how to obtain Informed consent, as: The
Physician informs participants about (1) the purpose of the procedure, expected duration and
procedures; (2) their right to decline to participate and

My Personal Reflection Of Diversity
Diversity
This paper is going to cover my personal reflection of what diversity means to me. I will discuss the
messages I learned as a child about various minorities and majorities, and how my views have
changed since then. I will also describe a situation in which diversity directly influenced my life. This
paper will also include reflections of the common read novel The Other Wes Moore: One Name, Two
Fates. I will detail how the main characters experienced diversity. I will give examples of how
diversity changed their lives and which person I personally related to the most.

differing cultures, races, ethnicities, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believed diversity was something we should want. As an adult I can better understand why many felt
the way they did. Through their own historical trauma, many in my community did not feel diversity
was a good thing because they were taught all white people equal oppressors. As I got older, I realized
the people there purposefully segregated themselves. Sixteen minutes away from my home was a
placed called Chalmette. This town had the larger white community that was upper middle class to
poverty. 12 minutes away was Little Vietnam, where the majority were of Vietnamese immigrants and
their children who all lived on the poverty line. Then there were six neighborhoods, including Plum
Orchard that the majority were African American. This sent the message that people seem to prefer the
company of those most like themselves. Plum Orchard had five white households when we moved in.
Two were elderly people, Maw maw Elsie and Mr. Eddie, who had been there since the late forties.
Maw maw Elsie passed away and Mr. Eddie moved to be closer to family. Then there were three
households with children, all single mothers, and walking the poverty line. Over the course of a few
years, they all moved away due to the increase in gang activity. My family stayed until 2002 when our
home was robbed.
As of today, the messages

1686200 The International Cultural Battle Composed by Daniel Plouffe In our world of expanding
technology and shrinking geography, people of different cultures have increasing frequency of contact
and need for effective communication on a daily basis. Whether through travel, immigration, or
international business, having the ability to communicate across many different cultures is an
advantage in and of itself. Speaking a different language is an obvious obstacle to intercultural

Productivity in the new culture is experienced to an extremely positive extent. Business dealings and
negotiations become secondary nature to the expatriate, and the expatriate s journey becomes a great
success in the perspective of their employing company. Another factor in the success of an expatriate
involves the expatriates pre existing culture intelligence quotient (CQ). It is still uncertain that an
expatriate s success working internationally is determined by their CQ but it is crucial for expatriates
working on international assignments because it is a sign of cultural competency. The concept of CQ
captures an individual s capacity for successful adaptation to new and unfamiliar cultural settings and
ability to function easily and effectively in cultural environments worldwide. (Rose, Sri Ramalu, Uli,
and Kumar (2010) Recently... (p. 2)) CQ is an effective determinant of how the expatriate may
perform on future international missions but mission success is highly unpredictable because of the
many factors outside of the expatriate s control. Factor s such as the expatriate s hosts, length of stay,
degree of unfamiliarity in the culture, and many others that fall into one of the two main categories

The Haitian Revolution Of 1791
The Haitian Revolution
To say that all men are born and created equally is an understatement to say the least. Speaking
morally, yes. But in reality, no. Especially if you are someone of African descent lost in the diaspora.
Case in point, the Haitian Revolution. Holding someone against their will and forcing them into
slavery is wrong. To force an unfair and unjustified debt upon a people for fighting for their freedom
and winning is double wrong and equally as bad as slavery. It goes as a slap in the face to those who
have did nothing wrong other than be born onto a world where the color of their skin and the content

made up of four different but distinct groups. They are: The whites, the free people of color, the black
slaves and the maroons. The whites were mostly French and numbered about 20,000 and they were
divided into two main groups: The planters and the petit blancs. The planters were the wealthy whites
that own plantations and slaves. The second and less powerful group known as the petit blancs was
made up of shop keepers, artisans, merchants, teachers, and different middle and underclass whites.
The petit blancs often had slaves but not that many as the planters. Both groups were committed to
slavery and anti black; they seen free blacks as a serious economic and social competitor. Next you
have the free people of color. They ranged in the number of 30,000. Half of which were mulattoes,
children of the slave owners and slave women. The other half were black slaves who were 500,000
strong, who had purchased their own freedom or was given freedom by their masters. The free blacks
were wealthy and that really didn t sit well with the petit blancs. Lastly, the maroons. They were a
large group of run away slaves who lived deep in the mountains and the kept alive the African ways

Summary Of A Pair Of Tickets
The short story A Pair of Tickets , by Amy Tan, highlights the distress that war victims face during
times of conflict. Tan accentuates the shocking actions that a mother must take in order to protect her
children while choosing death for herself. These actions question the state of mind that the mother
must have after having to take such drastic measures. Furthermore, this question is carried on to the
modern 21st century because of the crisis that many refugees are facing in various countries, including
their own. Numerous victims of war are being subjected to cruel, inhuman scenes that can have an
affect on their psychological stability. A Pair of Tickets creates a link from the plot of the story to the

good. My mind is filled with the memories I gained when I lost her. I remember waking up in a pool

The Operational Safety Management System
INTRODUCTION Any well designed safety program or system is only as effective as the day to day
ability of everyone in the organisation to rigorously follow procedures correctly and safely every time.
(Angiullo in Hopkins, 2009: p.147) This statement is based on organisational discipline or each
worker as having the self restraint to perform every task required.
Angiullo supports the statement by discussing the operational safety management system in three core
areas: leadership characteristics; well defined and followed management processes; and maintenance
of high standards. Organisations only fully conform to organisational discipline when these three areas
are effectively implemented within the organisation. (Angiullo in Hopkins, 2009). This essay will
discuss why it is believed to be an utopian statement by comparing the core areas against the AS/NZ
4801:2001 Occupational health and safety management systems specification with guidance for use
and supporting literature.
LEADERSHIP CHARACTERISTICS
An organisation s managerial leadership and commitment is defined from the top levels and filters
through to the front line worker. Leadership inspires and motivates only when it is consistent. What
management do or do not do including providing resources, their personal actions or the method of
communication can motivate or demotivate workers (Cutchfield, Roughton 2014). It has been
identified that leadership language, behaviour and trustworthiness shapes the beliefs and

Task 01
Activity A Important Notes:
According to company strategic plans, the company aims to achieve a net profit before tax of
$1,000,000. The chief risks to this goal are: poor sales due to economic downturn increases in
expenses such as wage expenses.
In addition to Australian operations, the company is considering manufacturing overseas to take
advantage of reduced costs. The company is also considering diversifying its product range to reduce
exposure to poor sales of one product.

Video Games Cause Violence Essay
Video Games Cause Violence
Video games have become a major occupation of majority of the youth these days. They spend hours
on end concentrating on video games, some of which are apparently very violent, yet this is actually
the whole idea. Coming from the horse s mouth is an argument in support of video games coined from
a video programmer s point of view, stating that violent video games allow people to do what they can
not do in reality virtual reality. ( http://www.theroc.org/roc mag/textarch/roc 15/roc15 08.htm ) For
instance, someone said to be having a bad day could use a violent video game to release stress by
shooting down a couple hundred bad men than actually taking an AK 47 and spilling down a few

The focus on these games is not only to kill, but also to torture and maim in the process.
The story line behind some violent video games includes games in which players earn points by
carjacking taxis, scoring drugs from cursing thugs, and mowing down pedestrians.(see
http://www.feedmag.com/vgs/duncan.html ) Some cartoonish tag lines in some sadistic video games
include : As easy as killing babies with axes and More fun than killing your neighbour s cats . This
kind of themes definitely influence the players, especially the younger ones, and inflict violent
tendencies on them. It is no wonder, that this killing mania in violent games was seen to seep out into
the actual world when a high school junior opened fire in his school cafetaria in Littleton, Colorado,
killing two of his classmates. The gunman was reported to be an ardent fan of Quake and Doom, some
rather violent video games. More proof of the relationship between video games and violence is
revealed by a study which clearly reveals how this kind of entertainment affects our lives. Greater
details of the history of how high school students turned gunmen in Columbine High School are given,
which shows that the effect of video games in their lives was a major source of influence in doing
what they did best.
In the light of all these, it is very clear that virtual reality as

Naomi Shihab Nye Famous
What does it mean to be famous? The popular definition of fame means being distinguished amongst
the rest for a certain act or function. In other words, for being more talented or well known. Typically,
this type of fame is reserved for celebrities and popular landmarks. However, being famous could also
mean being recognized amongst friends for being kind. There is no clear limitation on what being
famous could mean. In Naomi Shihab Nye s poem Famous , she describes her own feelings of what
fame is. She describes the way that fame can only exist when there is something to be famous for. Her
claim for her poem states that objects and people can be famous not because of their talent, but
because they are memorable and familiar. Nye begins her

The Self-Serving Bias Essay
In this comic strip by Matt Groening, the main character, Bongo, is being picked on by another
character that is telling him that everyone in the world hates your guts. Generally, most individuals
perceive their selves as being better than average. We are familiar with our own talents, thoughts,
feelings, and emotions more so than anybody else s. This leads to a self serving bias. In the comic,
Bongo reassures himself of his greatness until he looks in the mirror. The mirror causes Bongo to be
more self aware of his uncertainty. I chose this particular comic not only because it illistrates the self
serving bias, but also because of the way it incorporates the mirror and Bongo s self awareness.
The text defines self serving bias as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If an undesirable action cannot be forgotten or undone, then often it is justified. Social psychological
research has established, that our past actions influence our current attitudes. Every time we act, we
increase the idea behind what we have done, especially when we feel some responsibility for having
committed the act. In experiments, people who oppress someone, take the Stanford prison simulation
by Dr. Phillip Zimbardo for example, tend later to criticize their victim. The self serving bias is
universal. Even education does not eliminate this bias.
Let s discuss some elements of the self serving bias. First individuals often seem to have an unrealistic
optimism. You can call this the It won t happen to me attitude. Optimism predisposes a positive
approach to life. Sometimes this unrealistic optimism can make an individual seem larger than life.
For example, students who are overconfident tend to under prepare. Another example of unrealistic
optimism can be seem in newly weds. Most couples marry feeling confident of long term love when in
reality half of all marriages fail. The false consensus effect is the tendency to overestimate the
commonality of one s opinions and one s undesirable or unsuccessful behaviors. When we behave
badly or fail in a task we reassure ourselves by thinking that such mistakes are common. Individuals
presume that others have the same

Political Regimes And Degree Of Pluralism
Introduction
The decolonization process after the Second World War brought a new hope for a more democratic
world. In Africa, however, the process did not provide the results expected by the West as most of the
African states turned rapidly into various forms of authoritarian regimes with only a few adopting
more democratic rule. Reasons for that are manifold. Authoritarianism, in the African context, is
defined by a lack of state and ruling elites capacity to transform [...] power into effective political,
economic, and cultural policies thus undermining the presence of an overarching authority and being
often, but not always, repressive (Fatton Jr, 1988, p. 255). The differences in political regimes and
degree of pluralism can be analysed during the transition period in early post independence years,
determined by ways in which leaders centralized power differently across Africa (Bratton Van der
Walle, 1994, p. 468). While some argue that colonial legacies have laid the ground for the prevalence
of authoritarianism after independence, others would see this explanation as reductionist and
simplistic, failing to consider other historical, social and cultural aspects. This essay will review some
of the structural limitations that emerged in the colonial period and were reinforced by other factors
such as the international environment and informal politics, upholding authoritarian practices and
corruption across almost all of the Sub Saharan Africa (SSA). First, I will

My Mistress Eyes Are Nothing Like The Sun Rhyme Scheme
The poem I selected was My mistress eyes are nothing like the sun written by William Shakespeare.
The form of this poem is a sonnet, which consists of fourteen lines and its rhythm is iambic
pentameter. This means each line of the sonnet features five feet which consist of one stressed and one
unstressed syllable. For example, in line 2 of the poem: Coral | is far | more red | than her | lips red .
This poem is specifically written in true English sonnet or Shakespearean sonnet form because it
contains three quatrains (four line stanzas) and a heroic couplet (two lines that rhyme) at the end. Each
stanza features an alternating rhyme scheme which leaves the rhyme scheme of the whole poem: abab,
cdcd, efef, gg.

The Issue Of Distributive Justice
The issue of distributive justice and the question of whether it should be up to the possessor to do what
they please with the money and property that they earn, inherit, or otherwise acquire has long been
one of the most contentious political issues. This issue has been the cause of countless revolutions and
was one of the key differences between the powers in the Cold War. While this question is often
viewed in black and white terms, in reality the answer to this question is not simple and
straightforward.
During the Cold War the economic views of communism, associated with the Soviet Union, and
capitalism, associated with the United States and other western bloc nations, were generally viewed in
black and white terms. Policies that advocated the redistribution of wealth, but were not actually
communist, nevertheless tended to be associated with communism. Despite the fall of the Soviet
Union, this association continues to be made, especially in the United States (Maltsev and Skaskiw
54). However, the communism of the Soviet Union was not a perfect example of the fair redistribution
of wealth, nor was the United States without policies that redistributed wealth (Beckert 189; Buchanan
168). As such, an association with communism and the Soviet Union is not a truly valid reason for one
to reject any policy that redistributes wealth.
Oftentimes, redistribution of wealth and restrictions on how an individual can use their wealth is
necessary, in order to bring about more

How Toys Play A Role On Gender Socialization
Girls and boys both grow up being socialized on what is normal and unusual for their gender. Toys are
a prominent factor in this socialization, because they are typically presented for one gender and are
unacceptable for the other. To assess how toys play a role in gender socialization, I made a trip to Toys
R Us in College Station and was surprised by how the store was organized. The first thing that went
through my mind when walking into the store was to look for the Girls and Boys signs that would
indicate to me which section was for which gender. There weren t any signs though! Toys R Us had

This indicated that cars are for boys and thus shouldn t be what peaks girls interest. The gender neutral
toys on the other hand were marketed less boldly. These toys were more about creating and learning.
They consisted of puzzles and board games for the most part. The colors were a wide range and if
there were pictures there would usually be both boys and girls playing together. By looking through
each aisle, I was able to determine what toys were presented for each age specific gender. The infant
and toddler toys started off with not much difference and were gender neutral for the most part. They
were even in the same aisle. The toys were generally plush animals, entertainment puzzles, and simple
objects. As the ages moved up to pre school there was more difference in what toys were for boys and
what toys were for girls. The toys for boys were more vehicles while the girl toys were more play
scenarios. This fit the description given in the textbook that, by the time they are 12 to 18 months old,
girls prefer...dolls, cooking sets, dress up clothes, and soft toys, whereas boys choose vehicles, sports
equipment, and tools (Etaugh Bridges p 77). Though the toys were varied, they still remained in the
same aisle. The major separation of girl and boy toys began with the young school age kids. The girls
section was focused on dress up, Barbies, and My Little Pony, whereas the boys

Comparing Osage Creation Account And The Navajo Creation Myth
Today, there are many theories on how the world was created however people have been speculating
on how the Earth was created for years. It dates all the way to the Native Americans. The story The

both stories put strong emphasis on nature. Secondly, The Osage Account focuses on one specific
animal whereas the Navajo Myth touches on many different creatures. Thirdly, both stories each have
a completely different version on how the world was created. Initially, both stories start off giving
background on a natural setting. The Osage begins telling about how the Wazha zhe people lived in
the sky. It also tells that the Moon and the Sun were the people s parents. In comparison to the Osage,
the Navajo Myth talks about a person Named Begochiddy visiting the Lukatso, which is bamboo. This

Mountain Pine Beetle Research Paper
Our forests are extremely vital and important to our world and society. They supply us with oxygen
and other essiential human needs. However, the number of trees in our forests has been decreasing at
an alarming rate due to human interaction and other factors. There have been desperate attempts in
order to increase the number of trees in our forests as well. Scientists have experimented with
biotechnology in order to test factors that affect trees. In this paper, I will review loblolly pines, and
mountain pine beetles, and discuss which will have more of an effect on the number of trees in our
forests.

However I believe that the affects of mountain pine beetle will have a more major impact on the
number of trees in our forests
The ideas of cloning and regeneration of loblolly pines discussed by Li and Gupta are effective and
work. However, we as a society simply don t have the time, money, research or manpower to be
constantly regenerating clones and cloning loblolly pines. The process also has negative effects on our
environment and our health. Loblolly pines can also only be cloned or regenerated in small numbers
and it s not enough to compensate for the number of dying trees. Due to these reasons, the idea of
cloning and regeneration of loblolly pines is not practical and is not enough to compensate for the
mass number of dying trees.
However, Mountain Pine Beetles are extremely destructive and devasting to forests. Even though
there is no direct correlation between Mountain Pine Beetles and forest fires, they are still destructive
nevertheless. Mountain Pine Beetles do have the time, and manpower to continue to cause mass
deforestation. Another reason is that there have been attempts to clone these beetles. Keeling
attempted to clone the particle that triggers the attack of the mountain pine beetles. With even more
potential beetles, these beetles will most definitely continue to wreak havoc across the forests of

Possible Drought In California
Can you imagine living in a nauseating, vile, and disgusting manner? Well Californians can. Currently,
the state of California is in the midst of a severe drought. This drought is one of the worst droughts in
the state s recorded history. Due to this drought, more than a thousand of California s residents have
lost their water. The drought sparks a conflict for the residents. People can not bathe, use their toilets,
wash their dishes, or do anything with water. Because of the overuse of groundwater, a law is being

If California regulates aquifer, farmers are going to be looking at buying less pickups, employing less
people, and buying less tractors (Source 1). We are tied to the groundwater 100 percent, a farmer said,
so ultimately it will have an effect on consumer prices. There s just no getting around that (Source 1).
The crippling drought is expected to cost the state $2.2 billion in 2014 and put more than 17,000 farm
workers out of a job, according to a July study partly funded by the state s department of food and
agriculture (Source 2). If aquifer is regulated, the economy is going to crash, prices of food will go up,
if prices of food go up, prices of everything will go up, farmers will go out of business, people who

The United Arab Emirates
The United Arab Emirates, more commonly referred to as the UAE, gained independence from
England in 1971. The late President, Sheikh Zayid bin Sultan al Nahyan, ruled the UAE from the start
of its sovereignty all the way until his death in 2004 (Rugh, 1997, p. 18). Zayid implemented a federal
monarchy across the state. Unlike many other monarchies, the UAE has sustained great rule while
maintaing peace with its people. Many factors influence this trend and without them the regime of the
UAE would most likely fail. The UAE has flourished for nearly 40 years with a ruling governmental
regime where the majority of power is put into the hands of only a select few by disallowing political
parties and restricting political participation (Rugh, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The federal government oversees major state issues such as immigration, foreign policy, public health,
wealth, transportation, and communications (Heard Bey, 2005, p. 361). But the individual emirates
still have great amounts of power over the residents. The emirates each regulate the economy specific
to its land and the money is given back to the citizens (Rugh, 1997, p.17). Although the federal
government holds the most power, the emirates are still allowed to function with a degree of
independence. The familial and traditional roles held by the leaders of the UAE establish a long
lasting legitimacy throughout the state. The current President and ruler of Abu Dubai is Khalifa bin
Zayid Al Nuhayyan, son of the prior ruler. The Prime Minister, Vice President, and Sheikh of Dubai is
Muhammad Bin Rashid Al Maktum (CIA, 2014). Khalifa bin Zayid was never formally elected to
office, rather he was unanimously appointed to the seat on the same day of his father s funeral.
Because of the legacy and respect Sheikh Zayid created, his son entered office with the entire UAE s
support. The UAE functions tremendously through this charismatic and traditional legitimacy; Sheikh
Zayid was looked up to as a god for his 43 year reign of power. In many states this long standing rule
from one family would not be tolerated by the public, yet it works so well in the UAE because Sheikh
Zayid created and guided the state to such high success immediately after gaining

Disadvantages Of Disaster Risk
Disaster risk indicates the possibility of adverse effects in the future. It originates from the
collaboration of social and environmental processes, from the mixture of natural hazards and the
vulnerabilities of exposed elements.
Due to increases in the exposure of persons and assets, the brutality of the impacts of disasters
depends strongly on the level of exposure and vulnerability in the affected area, and proof indicates
that risk has increased worldwide largely. For example, long term increases in economic losses from
weather and climate related disasters is caused by increasing exposure (IPCC 2012). There have been
limited decreases in vulnerability as a result of, for instance, better building standards and compliance,
but these reducing effects are geographically rough and there are many examples of increased
vulnerability, mostly in large urban centres and in developing countries. This has created new risk and
potential disaster losses mainly at the local and community level with the poor and demoted, marginal
populations, women and children, and those dependent on single sector economies suspiciously
affected.
Exposure:
Exposure refers to the portfolio of essentials in an area in which hazard events may occur. Later, if
population and economic resources were not located in potentially dangerous settings, there would be
no problem of disaster risk. Exposure is a required, but not enough, factor of risk. It is possible to be
exposed but not vulnerable (for

Digital Music Industry
I. Introduction Many people are still perplexed how you are my love (a very popular song on the
internet in China) has become popular, which is also considered cheesy from the view point of some
mainstream recording industries and organizations. According to Zhang, CEO of the Idol
Entertainment Ltd, this represents neither a retrogression of society, nor a down step in terms of
culture. It is normally a reflection of the current music market, which is to satisfy the consumers
demands fundamentally. In fact, music online is currently receiving both profit and widespread
acclaim, drawing lines with recording industry and traditional music profit modal (Zhang, 2006). This
report aims to give knowledge about several evolutions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Finally, the recording companies will distribute their record (Nirkind, 2003). However, the Internet has
been a shortcut for recording songs and for recording companies, in other word, just as important as
playing songs in a ranking list in radio stations. C. From monopoly to public The increasing popularity
of web songs has helped to improve the music business. In contrast, the previous mode has been
laggard because of the monopolization by a few major elite music companies (Zhang, 2006). Every
music fan is currently fascinated with the dissemination of musical industry digital interface (MIDI) in
producing his or her own music. In addition, if we say the MP3 player represents a revolution in terms
of music dissemination, in that way, MIDI can be considered to be the delegate of a music revolution
in music production (Kennedy, 2006). In the past, producing a song needs to be helped by other
musicians and musical instruments costing at least 10,000 Yuan in China. Nowadays, depend on the
advances of technology, the computer can uses musical industry digital interface to simulate all
musical instruments almost at around 300 to 500 Yuan (Zhang, 2006), thus, a huge reducing cost in
producing music. D. From middle class to low class consumers In real life,

Music Production, Branding And Music Consumption With My...
INTRODUCTION The landscape of music industry has undeniably changed during the past 15 years.
The advancing technology made a big impact on how we produce, market, promote, monetize and
consume music. In my essay response I will be focusing on three themes: music production, branding
and music consumption with my overarching theme being Technology. For an established or up and
coming band in 90s there were four possible income sources: touring, merchandising, recordings and
publishing. These income sources are still here, but there are so much more options now. This is the
reason why for bands and artists it is more difficult now then it was back then, because they have all
these choices to make (Bertis Downs, 2012). To be a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 2014 the overall music market value was only $14.97 billion (IFPI, 2014). The music record
industry went into decline because of the advancing computers and telecommunication technologies,
new MP3 format and Peer to Peer file sharing websites. Consumers stopped buying tangible formats
like CDs and preferred to have everything on their hard drives. They were also able to get music for
free, because there was no enforceable law forbidding them. The technology has also changed the
relationship between the record label and the artist. Record label would pay all the costs in a typical
contract, which covers studio costs, session musicians, producers and engineers. Music is now being
recorded in digital format and not analog, which reduces the costs together with distribution being
digital downloads and streaming. This means that artists can take care of the whole process from start
to finish. MUSIC PRODUCTION Technology is like a river and can change its direction completely.
It can move in a different direction from what once was considered to be true and into one expected
logically in the future. The cost and accessibility barrier is lowered with every new technology
arriving and therefore the competition is increasing (Peter Alexander, 1994). In late 80s digital music
recording was emerging, but with technological limitations like computer memory and speed, the
artist couldn t do more than sampling. In early and mid 90s hardware got better and more

Gender Roles And Gender Stereotypes In The Media
Gender roles influence every characteristic and aspect of our life, from how we feel about ourselves to
the degree of our contribution in social life. From a ripe young age, children become exposed to this
type of gender bias right away, which can negatively affect and shape their whole outlook on life.
Consequently, as these young boys and girls mature both physically and emotionally and move on into
adulthood, they are, in essence, shoved into a world that impacts their attitudes and behaviors towards
gender roles and stereotypes. These specific attitudes and behaviors first cultivate in the private doors
of their parent s house. Afterwards, these same biases become reinforced by the child s peers, school
experience (education), television viewing, and, of course, advertisements in the realm of print and
television media. From the looks of it, it is near impossible, for children to not become subject to some
degree of gender bias at an early age. As a child grows and develops, the stereotypes follow them into
the next phases of their lives (i.e. adolescence) and then on into adulthood. Not only are these gender
stereotypes destroying girls, they are also killing boys. The components of this essay will attempt to
illustrate how advertising in print and television helps to perpetuate gender stereotypes in our world.
Along with that, one must ask the question of how much harm these negative biases in gender roles
truly affects the minds of men, women, and young children.

Compare And Contrast Christianity And Islam Worldview
Christian and Islam Worldview comparison: As Christians we all have a solid understanding on the
history and worldview of our religion however; we need to review how this compares to the
worldview of Islam. This is very important if one is potentially going to work in a place where the
primary culture is Muslim. In Christianity the scripture has taught us the our faith was first created
from Judaism with our belief of the foundation of Jesus Christ his death and resurrection. One main
difference is as Christians we know there is just one God however; we know that God is the Father,
the son and the holy spirit. The Islam faith believes that God is just one with Allah, Yahweh and God
all being one but believe that Jesus Christ was a prophet but not the son of God (Mohamad, 1997).
There is also the difference in the worldview of sin as Christians we believe in the first sin that was
created by Adam and Eve. Islam faith views that sins committed by others would not be something
that God would punish them for but only sins are impacted by only those who actually commit the sin.
In the Qur an the text states No person earns any sin except against himself only, and no bearer of
burdens shall bear the burden of another (Qur an 6:164). The belief of salvation is also a very different
worldview between both religions. Christians we believe the only way to salvation through our Father,
the Son and the Holy Spirit and we must accept these into our heart. Muslims believe in

This week, we learned more about the term queer and what it entitles.
I have heard of the term queer as an identity, but I never knew that it could be a verb. For example, I
need to queer my way of thinking outside of the binary spectrum. That s one of the many examples
that I can think of. So first week and second half of week two has gone great. When we did the game

The Effectiveness of DNA Profiling in Forensics Essay
Forensics has been greatly enhanced by technology. DNA profiling is one of the technologies that has
influenced efficiency and credibility of forensic evidence. The FBI first started using DNA in one of
its cases in 1988. In Europe, the United Kingdom opened a DNA database in 1955 (Milena, 2006).
The main use of the DNA is to compare the evidence collected at crime scene with the suspects. In
addition, it helps to establish a connection between the evidence and the criminals. The investigations
have been simplified through the use of technology and DNA has been one of the most effective
methods in investigations.
The use of DNA databases has been to improve the authenticity of the evidence through matching

The three strike law has been adopted by many other states across the United States and for this reason
there have been reduced repeat offences.
Discussion Board
The application of technology in forensics has been one of the major developments in forensics. This
is because the technology has enhanced the quality of evidence collected trough increased credibility
and reliability. The DNA databases have for example enhanced the manner in which investigators
connect crimes with perpetrators. In addition, the database has made it easier to develop a connection
between repeat offenders in the application of the three strike law. Since identifying repeat offenders
requires connecting crimes with suspects, the databases improve the connection.
DNA databases as well as the application of three strike law have made the justice system to become
reliable in implementation of its mandates of fairness. In addition, there has been a significant
reduction in criminal offences since offenders are aware of the effectiveness of investigations. The
databases have therefore ensured fairness and justice prevail. The book by Zimring, Kamin and
Gordon (2003) explains on the effects of there strike law in California. It illustrates how the use of
three strike law effectively eliminates criminal activities especially from repeat offenders. Gabriel,
Huffine, Ryan, Holland, and Parsons (2001) have also developed research on how DNA has
influenced forensic

West Nile Virus Vaccine Analysis
The most sophisticated way may be to avoid the mosquitos altogether. According to the World Health
Organization More than a handful governments and pharmaceutical companies are working on a
vaccine for Zika. Some are hunting old fashioned vaccines, like the ones used to protect from measles
and chicken pox; these vaccines stimulate the body s immune response by exposing it to a faded
version of the virus or just simply to the molecules from a virus that cause the body to produce
antibodies. The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) mentioned that by
following the blueprint used to create a vaccine for the mosquito borne West Nile virus would be a
cheaper and faster way around it. That technique relies on injecting DNA particles normally found
inside the cells of a bacteria that are separated from a cell s DNA and can duplicate by itself. DNA
molecules (plasmids) have the advantage of carrying the DNA code for their virus antigens, without
being contagious, therefore stimulating the body s autoimmune response. So far, the plasmid based
West Nile virus vaccine was successful in its early experimental tests. ... Show more content on

the situation is urgent, it might call for some unusual methods: Barney Graham, a representative
director of the NIAID vaccine research center claims that scientists could rapidly inspect their
possibilities by just trying out the potential vaccines in young, healthy (and not pregnant) volunteers,
and if the first tests go well we could move on by injecting them with the Zika

Essay On Gun Laws
The most developed country with the highest amounts of gun related deaths is the United States. This
is understandable due to the amount of shootings that occur in the country ranging from local
miniscule headlines to massacres. However the public agrees, the reason for most of these shootings is
due to lack of control on the gun buying process that our government enacted. Governments should
have stricter and more controlled gun laws to diminish the amount of yearly homicides. First, stricter
gun laws are beneficial because it limits the amount of damage a shooter can inflict on a community.
The recent shooting in an Orlando gay nightclub which claimed over fifty lives and injured hundreds
was enacted with only one shooter. As due to our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A recent example of this was at a night screening of a Hollywood blockbuster where a deranged
shooter by the name of James Holmes, who pleaded for insanity in court, open fired into the crowd of
movie goers once again killing many in the process. The reports have concluded that Holmes was
mentally unstable and should have been rejected for getting any type of weapon, unfortunately the
sequence of events did not transpire in that fashion. This is not the only time when the United States
failed to uphold the peace of gun violence in the country as in recent history a police officer was shot
and euthanized by a war veteran ailing from PTSD. The reason why he was able to keep his weapon
was due to his military service but they did not take away his weapon due to the fact the government
do not check the people that already possess weapons for any mental anomalies. Therefore if the laws
controlled more on owning a firearm then lives like this could have been saved and perhaps gun
violence would diminish. The existence of more controllable and stricter gun laws in the United States
can save the lives of many every year. As today, the people allow themselves to buy weapons that
were meant beyond the capabilities of self protection. Along with the idea that people who own a gun
and are psychologically unsound

Modeling Suburban And Rural Residential Development Beyond...
Modeling Suburban and Rural Residential Development beyond the Urban Fringe The authors David
A. Newburn and Peter Berck looked at how land use regulations differentially influenced suburban
versus rural residential development in exurban areas. Exurban areas are defined as an area that
extends beyond the built up urban and contiguously developed suburban areas, but not into the true
hinterlands beyond the commuting range of the city centers and their edge cities (Nelson and Sanchez
1997). The journal looks at a county in California that enacted urban growth boundary regulations
(UGB) that placed limitations on sewer and water extensions as well as minimum lot size restrictions
(zoned maximum residential density). To determine how the restrictions affected the development
densities the county was broken up into four zones based on proximity to sewer and water. The
individual zones were then divided farther into parcel attributes and proximity to major roads and
centers. Newburn and Berck chose the Random Parameter Logit Model (RPL) to arrive at their
conclusions. Methodology Newburn and Berck obtained land parcel records from the local county
office. The records were from 1993 and showed lot size, date of last subdivision, number of single
family units and year built. The data was then imputed over a base map from 2001 using GIS
software. This allowed the researchers to easily see what had been developed and at what densities.
The densities were broken down into five

The Open Office Project Essay
The Open Office Project (OOP) is part of an open source project called Open Office developed by Sun
Microsystems. The OpenOffice.org project is primarily sponsored by Sun Microsystems, which is the

RedHat, RedFlag CH2000, IBM, and Google. Additionally, over 450,000 people from nearly every
curve of the globe have joined this Project with the idea of creating the best possible office suite that

The utilization of OOP for the J. Smith Associates (JSA) furniture equipment project could be useful
with additional training of the OOP software. The JSA furniture equipment project will follow the
Traditional Project Management (TPM) approach. The Linear Project Management Life Cycle Model
is the most appropriate TPM. The project follows scope, plan, launch, monitor control and close
processes and the OOP are well suited for a linear project. With easier access to the project plan via
lap tops or hand held internet access devices the full project plan becomes portable. Changes and
updates through OOP will automatically update other documents affected by these events. The client
or senior management can access project plan at any time to follow the progress of the operation.
The OOP software functions as a scheduler allowing a software user the ability to visualize former,
current and future events. This is very useful tool to follow up with subcontractors to insure their
readiness for their phase of the project. Additional OOP functions can assist with the monitoring and
control of subcontractor s actions.

President Jimmy Carter and Big Government Spending Essay
Although Carter was a likable man, the role of president was not the job for him. His big government
spending and policies were responsible for leading our fragile country into one of the worst economic
recessions ever. However, this all changes in January of 1981 when President Ronald Reagan was
sworn into office and came to our country s rescue. Reagan stepped in ready to mend the deep scars
left behind by setting forth an economic plan, Reaganomics, in hopes to bail out our sinking country.
Though many may say Reagan s conservative ways had this plan favoring the upper class, this was not
the case. In 1981 President Carter handed his duty to Ronald Reagan in a vulnerable time for the
country. America was in an economic recession where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Supply side went off the idea that, tax rates affect a person s incentive to work, save, and invest. To
put it simply: lower tax rates create more economic energy, which generates more economic activity,
which produces a greater flow of revenue to the government (Gramm, Phil). This was known as the
Laffer Curve. When Reagan first came into office he was dealing with marginal rates at about 70% of
returns on savings and investments, but as he left office, 33% was the highest rate in the tax code
which even dropped to 28%. These tax rates led the nation to one of the longest peacetime recoveries
economically (Gramm, Phil). Before people can blame Reagan for stealing from the poor we must
look at the overall effects of his plan that seemingly led America out of a deep recession. First of all,
the tax cuts that he implemented were for ALL Americans. That means the rich, the poor, African
Americans, and even the disabled. These tax cuts were a positive incentive for everyone, which in turn
helped to stimulate the economy. In Reagan s Radio Address to the Nation in 1983 he explains how
much trouble Carter s double digit inflation negatively affected the country. The government was
faced with large deficits and record high interest rates. Of course with the devastating numbers, the
poor were scrambling to keep their heads above water and consequently many plummeted into deep
poverty. With the poverty level sky rocketing, any effort Reagan made to

Investigating The Osmotic Regulation On The Kidney
The purpose of the experiment is to test the fluid balance in the body, by studying the osmotic
regulation in the kidney (Manuguid, et al., 2015) Also, test the changes in urine pH, urine flow rate
and specific density among non drinking and drinking groups.
The main purpose of avoiding food and drink prior to the lab was to eliminate the effects that could
occur in the class data, reduce the amount of error and to get a fair result by having everyone start at
the same time. If each student did not monitor or follow the correct procedure, this would have
affected the result by having a lot differences in the rate of urine flow, urine density and the pH level.
Therefore, we wouldn t have an accurate results to make any kind of conclusion out of it and we will
have a result in a wide range. All the groups drank according to their weight and this affected the
result in terms of their osmolarity, hormone secretion, and urine flow rate because all the groups
ingested different amount of the drinks. Based on the result from table 1, the physiological state of the
subjects at T0 was negative for blood, ketone, glucose and protein. In figures 1 4, all of the subjects
pH level was about 6; urine volume rate and urine voided is about the same amount for all the groups.
There were changes in the variables between T0 and T30 because at T0, we started with no drinks and
we saw that the non drinking group and drinking groups had about the same level of the urine flow
rate at T=0. At

Evil And Evil In East Of Eden By John Steinbeck
Everyone possess those evil and selfish actions, the biggest are maybe closing the mouth, ears, and
eyes to what is going around, and instead stay self preserved. Is the world an image of how sinful one
can be? Or does it lay within your actions. In the novel East of Eden by John Steinbeck, Cal pursues to
understand and live his life with his loved brother Aaron, dad Adam, missing whore mom Kate, and
his trustful servant Lee. He lives in a life where his actions are defined from his ancestors, and allows
his descents to drown out his uniqueness. Lee s pure perspective of humanity along with his parental
care, and companionship with Cal allow him to educate Cal about the choice between good and evil.
The decision of every human being not only shows the evil or good of a person or the world, but will
determine the flourish or destruction of the world and humanity. Lee s ability to view humanity as an
outsider, and be a moral and spiritual figure for Cal and humanity. After meeting Samuel for the first
time, the two discuss their ethnic background as well as their belonging to the white as Lee answered
that to the so called whites [he] was still a Chinese, but an untrustworthy one; and at the same time
[his] Chinese friends steered clear of [him]. [he]] had to give it up (Steinbeck 164). Throughout the
story Lee is the symbolic figure of God. His inability to be viewed as part of any of his ethnic
communities demonstrates how he has seen humanity with an open eye, and

Battle of Yorktown Analysis
Battle of Yorktown
During the American Revolution, the Americans and French (Franco American coalition) fought the
British at the Battle of Yorktown also known as The Siege of Yorktown . The Americans and the
French fielded a combined force of roughly 16,000 soldiers to defeat the British force estimated at
7,000 soldiers. American General George Washington and French Lieutenant General de Rochambeau
led the American and French soldiers. The British commanding officer was Major General Lord
Cornwallis. The battle occurred from September 28 thru October 19, 1781. Cornwallis lost his
dominance in the Carolinas and decided to march his army north to Virginia and seize Yorktown and
Gloucester along the York River.

Throughout the week, the bombardments were continuous between the Franco American forces and
the British. On one occasion, Cornwallis tried to attempt to disable allied guns. On October 16, he was
successful in disabling four guns because they pretended to be an American detachment. While trying
to push forward the British troops were able to disable two more guns before forced back by a French
covering party. Those guns, however, were again operational within 6 hours. By this time, Cornwallis
was running out of options. He tried to retreat through Gloucester but was unable to because of lack of
transportation, weather and the continued indirect fire his troops were receiving.
The observation and fields of fire favored the Franco American forces. They were prepared to conduct
reconnaissance on the British to gather intelligence that was useful in their attacks. They were able to
destroy, neutralize, and suppress the enemy with effective artillery bombardments. The Franco
American troops were also able to occupy the abandoned redoubts, which helped establish fire
superiority. The British were able to fire artillery in retaliation but fell short in accomplishing large
amounts of damages. As the British crossed the river into Gloucester, they suffered a high number of
casualties at the hands of the cannon batteries. At this point in the battle, Cornwallis did not have

  • 2. The Importance Of Informed Consent What is informed consent and when, why and how must the physician obtained this consent? From the Medicine Net they defined Informed Consent as The process by which a patient learns about the procedure, understands the purpose, benefits, and potential risks of a medical or surgical intervention, including clinical trails, and then agrees to receive the treatment or participate in the trial. Informed consent generally requires the patient or responsible party to sign a statement confirming that they understand the risks and benefits of the procedure or treatment. Informed consent needs to be obtained by the physician when a procedure with anesthesia is used, if the patient is undergoing any type of surgery, a procedure that is entering the body through the skin or through a body cavity, or if the patient is asked to be in a clinical research trial. This type of consent is necessary so the patient and the physician are both on the same page of the patient s understanding and willingness to participate in the procedure. It is also for the patient to know their right to stop the procedure before or during the procedure. It also informs the patient that if they do not want the procedure they have alternatives they can choose from. The American Medical Association describes the 8 steps on how to obtain Informed consent, as: The Physician informs participants about (1) the purpose of the procedure, expected duration and procedures; (2) their right to decline to participate and ... • 3. My Personal Reflection Of Diversity Diversity This paper is going to cover my personal reflection of what diversity means to me. I will discuss the messages I learned as a child about various minorities and majorities, and how my views have changed since then. I will also describe a situation in which diversity directly influenced my life. This paper will also include reflections of the common read novel The Other Wes Moore: One Name, Two Fates. I will detail how the main characters experienced diversity. I will give examples of how diversity changed their lives and which person I personally related to the most. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believed diversity was something we should want. As an adult I can better understand why many felt the way they did. Through their own historical trauma, many in my community did not feel diversity was a good thing because they were taught all white people equal oppressors. As I got older, I realized the people there purposefully segregated themselves. Sixteen minutes away from my home was a placed called Chalmette. This town had the larger white community that was upper middle class to poverty. 12 minutes away was Little Vietnam, where the majority were of Vietnamese immigrants and their children who all lived on the poverty line. Then there were six neighborhoods, including Plum Orchard that the majority were African American. This sent the message that people seem to prefer the company of those most like themselves. Plum Orchard had five white households when we moved in. Two were elderly people, Maw maw Elsie and Mr. Eddie, who had been there since the late forties. Maw maw Elsie passed away and Mr. Eddie moved to be closer to family. Then there were three households with children, all single mothers, and walking the poverty line. Over the course of a few years, they all moved away due to the increase in gang activity. My family stayed until 2002 when our home was robbed. As of today, the messages ... Field Research Paper 2010 11 11 INTB 311 Diversity and Intercultural Communication Daniel Plouffe 1686200 The International Cultural Battle Composed by Daniel Plouffe In our world of expanding technology and shrinking geography, people of different cultures have increasing frequency of contact and need for effective communication on a daily basis. Whether through travel, immigration, or international business, having the ability to communicate across many different cultures is an advantage in and of itself. Speaking a different language is an obvious obstacle to intercultural communication, but a greater and more difficult hurdle is to speak a different culture. Another factor in the success of an expatriate involves the expatriates pre existing culture intelligence quotient (CQ). It is still uncertain that an expatriate s success working internationally is determined by their CQ but it is crucial for expatriates working on international assignments because it is a sign of cultural competency. The concept of CQ captures an individual s capacity for successful adaptation to new and unfamiliar cultural settings and ability to function easily and effectively in cultural environments worldwide. Especially if you are someone of African descent lost in the diaspora. Case in point, the Haitian Revolution. Holding someone against their will and forcing them into slavery is wrong. To force an unfair and unjustified debt upon a people for fighting for their freedom and winning is double wrong and equally as bad as slavery. The whites were mostly French and numbered about 20,000 and they were divided into two main groups: The planters and the petit blancs. The planters were the wealthy whites that own plantations and slaves. The second and less powerful group known as the petit blancs was made up of shop keepers, artisans, merchants, teachers, and different middle and underclass whites. The petit blancs often had slaves but not that many as the planters. Both groups were committed to slavery and anti black; they seen free blacks as a serious economic and social competitor. The other half were black slaves who were 500,000 strong, who had purchased their own freedom or was given freedom by their masters. • 8. The Operational Safety Management System INTRODUCTION Any well designed safety program or system is only as effective as the day to day ability of everyone in the organisation to rigorously follow procedures correctly and safely every time. (Angiullo in Hopkins, 2009: p.147) This statement is based on organisational discipline or each worker as having the self restraint to perform every task required. Angiullo supports the statement by discussing the operational safety management system in three core areas: leadership characteristics; well defined and followed management processes; and maintenance of high standards. Organisations only fully conform to organisational discipline when these three areas are effectively implemented within the organisation. (Angiullo in Hopkins, 2009). This essay will discuss why it is believed to be an utopian statement by comparing the core areas against the AS/NZ 4801:2001 Occupational health and safety management systems specification with guidance for use and supporting literature. LEADERSHIP CHARACTERISTICS An organisation s managerial leadership and commitment is defined from the top levels and filters through to the front line worker. Leadership inspires and motivates only when it is consistent. What management do or do not do including providing resources, their personal actions or the method of communication can motivate or demotivate workers (Cutchfield, Roughton 2014). It has been identified that leadership language, behaviour and trustworthiness shapes the beliefs and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They spend hours on end concentrating on video games, some of which are apparently very violent, yet this is actually the whole idea. Coming from the horse s mouth is an argument in support of video games coined from a video programmer s point of view, stating that violent video games allow people to do what they can not do in reality virtual reality. ( http://www.theroc.org/roc mag/textarch/roc 15/roc15 08.htm ) For instance, someone said to be having a bad day could use a violent video game to release stress by shooting down a couple hundred bad men than actually taking an AK 47 and spilling down a few brains down the ... (http://archive.abcnews.go.com/sections/tech/DailyNews/internetgames981201.html) The story line behind some violent video games includes games in which players earn points by carjacking taxis, scoring drugs from cursing thugs, and mowing down pedestrians.(see http://www.feedmag.com/vgs/duncan.html ) Some cartoonish tag lines in some sadistic video games include : As easy as killing babies with axes and More fun than killing your neighbour s cats . This kind of themes definitely influence the players, especially the younger ones, and inflict violent tendencies on them. It is no wonder, that this killing mania in violent games was seen to seep out into the actual world when a high school junior opened fire in his school cafetaria in Littleton, Colorado, killing two of his classmates. The gunman was reported to be an ardent fan of Quake and Doom, some rather violent video games. More proof of the relationship between video games and violence is revealed by a study which clearly reveals how this kind of entertainment affects our lives. Greater details of the history of how high school students turned gunmen in Columbine High School are given, which shows that the effect of video games in their lives was a major source of influence in doing what they did best. In other words, for being more talented or well known. Typically, this type of fame is reserved for celebrities and popular landmarks. However, being famous could also mean being recognized amongst friends for being kind. There is no clear limitation on what being famous could mean. In Naomi Shihab Nye s poem Famous , she describes her own feelings of what fame is. She describes the way that fame can only exist when there is something to be famous for. • 13. The Self-Serving Bias Essay In this comic strip by Matt Groening, the main character, Bongo, is being picked on by another character that is telling him that everyone in the world hates your guts. Generally, most individuals perceive their selves as being better than average. We are familiar with our own talents, thoughts, feelings, and emotions more so than anybody else s. This leads to a self serving bias. In the comic, Bongo reassures himself of his greatness until he looks in the mirror. The mirror causes Bongo to be more self aware of his uncertainty. I chose this particular comic not only because it illistrates the self serving bias, but also because of the way it incorporates the mirror and Bongo s self awareness. The text defines self serving bias as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If an undesirable action cannot be forgotten or undone, then often it is justified. Social psychological research has established, that our past actions influence our current attitudes. Every time we act, we increase the idea behind what we have done, especially when we feel some responsibility for having committed the act. In experiments, people who oppress someone, take the Stanford prison simulation by Dr. Phillip Zimbardo for example, tend later to criticize their victim. The self serving bias is universal. Even education does not eliminate this bias. Let s discuss some elements of the self serving bias. First individuals often seem to have an unrealistic optimism. You can call this the It won t happen to me attitude. Optimism predisposes a positive approach to life. Sometimes this unrealistic optimism can make an individual seem larger than life. For example, students who are overconfident tend to under prepare. Another example of unrealistic optimism can be seem in newly weds. Most couples marry feeling confident of long term love when in reality half of all marriages fail. The false consensus effect is the tendency to overestimate the commonality of one s opinions and one s undesirable or unsuccessful behaviors. When we behave badly or fail in a task we reassure ourselves by thinking that such mistakes are common. Individuals presume that others have the same ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Political Regimes And Degree Of Pluralism Introduction The decolonization process after the Second World War brought a new hope for a more democratic world. In Africa, however, the process did not provide the results expected by the West as most of the African states turned rapidly into various forms of authoritarian regimes with only a few adopting more democratic rule. Reasons for that are manifold. Authoritarianism, in the African context, is defined by a lack of state and ruling elites capacity to transform [...] power into effective political, economic, and cultural policies thus undermining the presence of an overarching authority and being often, but not always, repressive (Fatton Jr, 1988, p. 255). The differences in political regimes and degree of pluralism can be analysed during the transition period in early post independence years, determined by ways in which leaders centralized power differently across Africa (Bratton Van der Walle, 1994, p. 468). While some argue that colonial legacies have laid the ground for the prevalence of authoritarianism after independence, others would see this explanation as reductionist and simplistic, failing to consider other historical, social and cultural aspects. This essay will review some of the structural limitations that emerged in the colonial period and were reinforced by other factors such as the international environment and informal politics, upholding authoritarian practices and corruption across almost all of the Sub Saharan Africa (SSA). • 16. The Issue Of Distributive Justice The issue of distributive justice and the question of whether it should be up to the possessor to do what they please with the money and property that they earn, inherit, or otherwise acquire has long been one of the most contentious political issues. This issue has been the cause of countless revolutions and was one of the key differences between the powers in the Cold War. While this question is often viewed in black and white terms, in reality the answer to this question is not simple and straightforward. During the Cold War the economic views of communism, associated with the Soviet Union, and capitalism, associated with the United States and other western bloc nations, were generally viewed in black and white terms. Policies that advocated the redistribution of wealth, but were not actually communist, nevertheless tended to be associated with communism. Despite the fall of the Soviet Union, this association continues to be made, especially in the United States (Maltsev and Skaskiw 54). However, the communism of the Soviet Union was not a perfect example of the fair redistribution of wealth, nor was the United States without policies that redistributed wealth (Beckert 189; Buchanan 168). As such, an association with communism and the Soviet Union is not a truly valid reason for one to reject any policy that redistributes wealth. Oftentimes, redistribution of wealth and restrictions on how an individual can use their wealth is necessary, in order to bring about more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Toys are a prominent factor in this socialization, because they are typically presented for one gender and are unacceptable for the other. To assess how toys play a role in gender socialization, I made a trip to Toys R Us in College Station and was surprised by how the store was organized. The first thing that went through my mind when walking into the store was to look for the Girls and Boys signs that would indicate to me which section was for which gender. These toys were more about creating and learning. They consisted of puzzles and board games for the most part. By looking through each aisle, I was able to determine what toys were presented for each age specific gender. The infant and toddler toys started off with not much difference and were gender neutral for the most part. They were even in the same aisle. The toys were generally plush animals, entertainment puzzles, and simple objects. As the ages moved up to pre school there was more difference in what toys were for boys and what toys were for girls. The toys for boys were more vehicles while the girl toys were more play scenarios. This fit the description given in the textbook that, by the time they are 12 to 18 months old, girls prefer...dolls, cooking sets, dress up clothes, and soft toys, whereas boys choose vehicles, sports equipment, and tools (Etaugh Bridges p 77). Comparing Osage Creation Account And The Navajo Creation Myth Today, there are many theories on how the world was created however people have been speculating on how the Earth was created for years. It dates all the way to the Native Americans. The story The Osage Creation Account and The Navajo Creation Myth have both similarities and differences. First, both stories put strong emphasis on nature. Secondly, The Osage Account focuses on one specific animal whereas the Navajo Myth touches on many different creatures. Thirdly, both stories each have a completely different version on how the world was created. Initially, both stories start off giving background on a natural setting. The Osage begins telling about how the Wazha zhe people lived in the sky. It also tells that the Moon and the Sun were the people s parents. In comparison to the Osage, the Navajo Myth talks about a person Named Begochiddy visiting the Lukatso, which is bamboo. Loblolly pines can also only be cloned or regenerated in small numbers and it s not enough to compensate for the number of dying trees. Due to these reasons, the idea of cloning and regeneration of loblolly pines is not practical and is not enough to compensate for the mass number of dying trees. However, Mountain Pine Beetles are extremely destructive and devasting to forests. Even though there is no direct correlation between Mountain Pine Beetles and forest fires, they are still destructive nevertheless. Mountain Pine Beetles do have the time, and manpower to continue to cause mass deforestation. Another reason is that there have been attempts to clone these beetles. • 22. Disadvantages Of Disaster Risk Disaster risk indicates the possibility of adverse effects in the future. It originates from the collaboration of social and environmental processes, from the mixture of natural hazards and the vulnerabilities of exposed elements. Due to increases in the exposure of persons and assets, the brutality of the impacts of disasters depends strongly on the level of exposure and vulnerability in the affected area, and proof indicates that risk has increased worldwide largely. For example, long term increases in economic losses from weather and climate related disasters is caused by increasing exposure (IPCC 2012). There have been limited decreases in vulnerability as a result of, for instance, better building standards and compliance, but these reducing effects are geographically rough and there are many examples of increased vulnerability, mostly in large urban centres and in developing countries. This has created new risk and potential disaster losses mainly at the local and community level with the poor and demoted, marginal populations, women and children, and those dependent on single sector economies suspiciously affected. Exposure: Exposure refers to the portfolio of essentials in an area in which hazard events may occur. For an established or up and coming band in 90s there were four possible income sources: touring, merchandising, recordings and publishing. The music record industry went into decline because of the advancing computers and telecommunication technologies, new MP3 format and Peer to Peer file sharing websites. Consumers stopped buying tangible formats like CDs and preferred to have everything on their hard drives. They were also able to get music for free, because there was no enforceable law forbidding them. The technology has also changed the relationship between the record label and the artist. Record label would pay all the costs in a typical contract, which covers studio costs, session musicians, producers and engineers. Music is now being recorded in digital format and not analog, which reduces the costs together with distribution being digital downloads and streaming. • 25. Gender Roles And Gender Stereotypes In The Media Gender roles influence every characteristic and aspect of our life, from how we feel about ourselves to the degree of our contribution in social life. From a ripe young age, children become exposed to this type of gender bias right away, which can negatively affect and shape their whole outlook on life. Consequently, as these young boys and girls mature both physically and emotionally and move on into adulthood, they are, in essence, shoved into a world that impacts their attitudes and behaviors towards gender roles and stereotypes. These specific attitudes and behaviors first cultivate in the private doors of their parent s house. Afterwards, these same biases become reinforced by the child s peers, school experience (education), television viewing, and, of course, advertisements in the realm of print and television media. From the looks of it, it is near impossible, for children to not become subject to some degree of gender bias at an early age. As a child grows and develops, the stereotypes follow them into the next phases of their lives (i.e. adolescence) and then on into adulthood. Not only are these gender stereotypes destroying girls, they are also killing boys. The components of this essay will attempt to illustrate how advertising in print and television helps to perpetuate gender stereotypes in our world. Along with that, one must ask the question of how much harm these negative biases in gender roles truly affects the minds of men, women, and young children. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. Compare And Contrast Christianity And Islam Worldview Christian and Islam Worldview comparison: As Christians we all have a solid understanding on the history and worldview of our religion however; we need to review how this compares to the worldview of Islam. This is very important if one is potentially going to work in a place where the primary culture is Muslim. In Christianity the scripture has taught us the our faith was first created from Judaism with our belief of the foundation of Jesus Christ his death and resurrection. One main difference is as Christians we know there is just one God however; we know that God is the Father, the son and the holy spirit. The Islam faith believes that God is just one with Allah, Yahweh and God all being one but believe that Jesus Christ was a prophet but not the son of God (Mohamad, 1997). There is also the difference in the worldview of sin as Christians we believe in the first sin that was created by Adam and Eve. Islam faith views that sins committed by others would not be something that God would punish them for but only sins are impacted by only those who actually commit the sin. In the Qur an the text states No person earns any sin except against himself only, and no bearer of burdens shall bear the burden of another (Qur an 6:164). The three strike law has been adopted by many other states across the United States and for this reason there have been reduced repeat offences. Discussion Board The application of technology in forensics has been one of the major developments in forensics. This is because the technology has enhanced the quality of evidence collected trough increased credibility and reliability. The DNA databases have for example enhanced the manner in which investigators connect crimes with perpetrators. In addition, the database has made it easier to develop a connection between repeat offenders in the application of the three strike law. Since identifying repeat offenders requires connecting crimes with suspects, the databases improve the connection. DNA databases as well as the application of three strike law have made the justice system to become reliable in implementation of its mandates of fairness. In addition, there has been a significant reduction in criminal offences since offenders are aware of the effectiveness of investigations. The databases have therefore ensured fairness and justice prevail. The book by Zimring, Kamin and Gordon (2003) explains on the effects of there strike law in California. According to the World Health Organization More than a handful governments and pharmaceutical companies are working on a vaccine for Zika. Some are hunting old fashioned vaccines, like the ones used to protect from measles and chicken pox; these vaccines stimulate the body s immune response by exposing it to a faded version of the virus or just simply to the molecules from a virus that cause the body to produce antibodies. The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) mentioned that by following the blueprint used to create a vaccine for the mosquito borne West Nile virus would be a cheaper and faster way around it. That technique relies on injecting DNA particles normally found inside the cells of a bacteria that are separated from a cell s DNA and can duplicate by itself. This is understandable due to the amount of shootings that occur in the country ranging from local miniscule headlines to massacres. • 34. Modeling Suburban And Rural Residential Development Beyond... Modeling Suburban and Rural Residential Development beyond the Urban Fringe The authors David A. Newburn and Peter Berck looked at how land use regulations differentially influenced suburban versus rural residential development in exurban areas. Exurban areas are defined as an area that extends beyond the built up urban and contiguously developed suburban areas, but not into the true hinterlands beyond the commuting range of the city centers and their edge cities (Nelson and Sanchez 1997). The journal looks at a county in California that enacted urban growth boundary regulations (UGB) that placed limitations on sewer and water extensions as well as minimum lot size restrictions (zoned maximum residential density). To determine how the restrictions affected the development densities the county was broken up into four zones based on proximity to sewer and water. The individual zones were then divided farther into parcel attributes and proximity to major roads and centers. Newburn and Berck chose the Random Parameter Logit Model (RPL) to arrive at their conclusions. Methodology Newburn and Berck obtained land parcel records from the local county office. The records were from 1993 and showed lot size, date of last subdivision, number of single family units and year built. The data was then imputed over a base map from 2001 using GIS software. This allowed the researchers to easily see what had been developed and at what densities. The densities were broken down into five ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To put it simply: lower tax rates create more economic energy, which generates more economic activity, which produces a greater flow of revenue to the government (Gramm, Phil). This was known as the Laffer Curve. When Reagan first came into office he was dealing with marginal rates at about 70% of returns on savings and investments, but as he left office, 33% was the highest rate in the tax code which even dropped to 28%. These tax rates led the nation to one of the longest peacetime recoveries economically (Gramm, Phil). First of all, the tax cuts that he implemented were for ALL Americans. That means the rich, the poor, African Americans, and even the disabled. These tax cuts were a positive incentive for everyone, which in turn helped to stimulate the economy. If each student did not monitor or follow the correct procedure, this would have affected the result by having a lot differences in the rate of urine flow, urine density and the pH level. Therefore, we wouldn t have an accurate results to make any kind of conclusion out of it and we will have a result in a wide range. All the groups drank according to their weight and this affected the result in terms of their osmolarity, hormone secretion, and urine flow rate because all the groups ingested different amount of the drinks. Based on the result from table 1, the physiological state of the subjects at T0 was negative for blood, ketone, glucose and protein. In figures 1 4, all of the subjects pH level was about 6; urine volume rate and urine voided is about the same amount for all the groups. There were changes in the variables between T0 and T30 because at T0, we started with no drinks and we saw that the non drinking group and drinking groups had about the same level of the urine flow rate at T=0. On one occasion, Cornwallis tried to attempt to disable allied guns. On October 16, he was successful in disabling four guns because they pretended to be an American detachment. While trying to push forward the British troops were able to disable two more guns before forced back by a French covering party. Those guns, however, were again operational within 6 hours. By this time, Cornwallis was running out of options. He tried to retreat through Gloucester but was unable to because of lack of transportation, weather and the continued indirect fire his troops were receiving. The observation and fields of fire favored the Franco American forces. They were prepared to conduct reconnaissance on the British to gather intelligence that was useful in their attacks. They were able to destroy, neutralize, and suppress the enemy with effective artillery bombardments. The Franco American troops were also able to occupy the abandoned redoubts, which helped establish fire superiority. The British were able to fire artillery in retaliation but fell short in accomplishing large amounts of damages.
