Proprietary Technologies Vs. Infrastructural Technology
Proprietary technologies vs. Infrastructural technology
Proprietary technologies can be owned, actively and effectively, at times by a single company. For
instance, a pharmaceutical holding a patent on a particular compound that is the basis for a drug is an
example of proprietary technologies. Infrastructural technology on the other hand provides more value
when shared rather than used by a single organization. A company having all the rights to building
railroads is an example of Infrastructural technology. This company can operate efficiently, but the
effect to the economy is greater if the technology is shared and companies build railroads that can
connect more buyers and sellers. Holding proprietary technologies, according to ... Show more content

In fact, IT is nothing like transport or electricity, and according to Ben Bernanke, we are in the early
days of the IT revolution as computing speed and memory continue to increase we ve only scratch the
surface3.
Carr s reasons why IT is a Commodity
IT, according to Carr, has become affordable to all and therefore, it has been a commodity. He further
argues that the use commodities do not lead to a completive advantage, and believes that IT has
become commoditized for the following reasons:
IT is highly replicable
The arrival of the internet has accelerated the its commoditization
IT is subject to rapid price deflation
I agree with Carr s assessment on the commoditization of IT to some degree. For instance, it makes no
sense for an organization to spend money in customizing a product when a similar product can be
bought at a relatively good price. Organizations no longer write their application, they simple buy one
that is available in the market (e,g. Microsoft Office).
I do not agree with Carr when he states that organizations such as IBM and Microsoft recognize this
trend and have position themselves as IT utilities companies as more companies replace customized
application with generic ones. That the internet has increased the commoditization of IT by providing
a perfect delivery channel for generic applications and more and more organization will obtain their IT
requirement by purchasing fee based web services

Chief Pontiac To Stay Case Study
Chief Pontiac to Stay or Not to Stay
Background
On May 31, 2018, Cherokee One Feather, the online newspaper for the Cherokee Nation, posted a
letter they had received from a Native American lady, Sabrina Arch concerning the way an Asheville
car dealership treated her. When she went to the dealership, Harry s on the Hill looking for a new
vehicle she had thoroughly researched how much this car should cost, and the bank informed her the
price was too high. Since she wanted the automobile, she went to the dealership hoping they would
meet her halfway with the amount. The salesperson seemed uninterested in helping her or coming
down on the price, so Ms. Arch felt the salesperson thought she was an uneducated Native American
woman with money. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Harry s on the Hill has not responded anymore to the disapproval of removing the statue. According to
some of the comments on Facebook, people will no longer do business with the dealership if they
remove the statue because it is history and as Americans, we should not remove statues because
people are offended. According to a Facebook poll by John Le WLOS reporter, on June 4, 2018, 94%
of the voters said the statue should stay; however, Harry s on the Hill Facebook post also has people in
favor of removing the statue. According to the dealership, they will not tolerate racist and derogatory
comments since they go against their values. Since the removal of the statue was in the same posting
as their core values, it seems they will have to remove the statue even if potential customers leave. If
they do not remove the statue, it will look like they do not uphold their values. The poor decision to
not consider the reaction to all publics has placed this dealership in a no win situation, and now they
have the difficult decision to remove the statue or let it stay. If they do not remove the statue or at the
time of removal, Harry s on the Hill must have a powerful message explaining in detail their

1870 And 1910 Research Paper
Before the Civil War, during the literary movements of Transcendentalism and Romanticism, many
Americans looked at the world in an optimistic point of view. After the Civil War during the
Reconstruction Era, many changed their outlook from optimistic to a more realistic outlook on life.
The time period between 1870 and 1910 was when the literary movements, Realism and Naturalism in
literature became prominent. Authors like Stephen Crane and Mary Chesnut wrote novels that
followed these movements. These writings helped influence today s writers to write more about
current events and how they affect people. The movements are still relevant today as it can be shown
through the arts of authors like; Jerry Spinelli, Nancy Werlin, and Patricia McCormick.

Love And Love Essay
LOVE HATE I. INTRODUCTION As we grow up in life, we grow up with the understanding that we
are loved or to give love. Sometimes that love turns into hate depending on the circumstances which it
involves. As Christians, we are taught to show and give love to all and not to hate anyone. God directs
us to teach others to do the same. With that being said, love and hate have an enormous amount of
meaning that can be explained in a Theological, Biblical and Practical manner.
II. PART ONE
LOVE
A. Theological Definition The theological meaning of love in the bible is expressed equal throughout.
According to the International Standard Bible Encyclopedia, it describes love as, Love to both God
and man is fundamental to true religion, whether as expressed in the Old Testament or the New
Testament. (International Standard Bible Encyclopedia Online). Therefore, as Christians we ... Show

As Christians, we are to give and show love to Jesus Christ, others and ourselves. Love is sometimes
very hard to express when you have pain against someone or something. In which, this can turn into
hate or dislike. Hate or hatred is the inner most pain or anguish you have towards someone or
something. When you at this point you need to turn it to God and ask for help with those feelings.
Each feeling, whether it be love or hate comes from a source like good and evil. This comparison is
just like God and Satan. God loves all and shows it daily to us, where Satan is the opposite. He
demonstrates how to motivate us with burdensome and struggles. We need always to remember that
those inner thoughts or feelings are sinful. It says in John 3:16, For God so loved the world so much
that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him should not die but have eternal life
(American Bible Society, 954). Apply Gods word to your lives and accept the hatred from within and
turn it into love from

The English Language During The Civil Rights Movement
In our society, the English language has evolved over time and certain words have grown to have
different meanings. Overtime the language shifts. A word would have the same letters for 50 years but
different definitions throughout the time period also known as the semantic change. One such word is
the word wasp . Most commonly referring to the pest that flies around in our backyards that sting us
and leaves us with quite the mark. But this was not the case after the American Civil War up in the
1860 s until the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960 s. The meaning wasp at the time referred to a
White Anglo Saxon Protestant that was also most commonly used for the members of the hate group
known as the Ku Klux Klan (KKK). A WASP is known ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The words do not change in their initiative meanings but change in a means that they attain other
meanings or are used to refer to other named objects over time. For example, the word mouse is used
to refer to tiny long tailed animal however, it is now also used to refer to a device used to rheostat
cursor movement. The alteration of meaning occurs because words are constantly used and what is
intended by speakers is not exactly the same each time. If a different intention for a word is shared by
the speech community and becomes established in usage, then a semantic change has occurred.
(Malkiel, Yakov). Overtime, the KKK member population has declined due to alternating historical
events. Along with the group, the word WASP has changed also. In the modern time, WASP is used to
simply describe upper class white people. The problem with this is that the same word that was used
in the late 1800s to describe an extremely racist, violent, and unethical group is also now used to
describe a general group of people who are in no way affiliated with former Another problem is that
the term does not seem to be incorrect use. Unlike the term ASP being used today, an Angelo Saxon
protestant is from lower middle class England, particularly East Anglia, in the early 1600s. Some, like
the Puritans, came to North America because they opposed the Church of England. (Abagond). . The
term WASP does represent Angelo Saxon, which were people who inhibited Great Britain from the 5th
century (Encyclopedia Britannica), but it used incorrectly to describe a specific group with a negative

The Four Noble Truths And The Noble Eightfold Path
The core principals of Buddhism can be found in The Four Noble Truths and The Noble Eightfold
Path. The Four Noble Truths are the truths about life. The first one is that in order to live, you re going
to suffer. Mind and body can inevitably become sick and lead to stress in life. Second noble truth is
that suffering stems from a cause; desire. They go hand in hand in an inverse relationship. If someone
desires to be private, they re constantly going to be worried about when they re not alone. This is so
prevalent that the pleasure they get from being alone is not worth the struggle of privacy. The third
noble truth is tied in by saying to end the suffering; a person must end all desires. Lastly, the fourth
noble truth describes the best ways to end suffering is to follow the eightfold path. To find inner peace,
someone must follow the eightfold path. In order to achieve this you must do all of these correctly:

But the more I think about it, the less shocked I am. The monks apart of the violence have motives
that are much more past religious belief. It s most likely a means of corruption to control the area
spiritually, and then in turn, politically. They could also be radical and suppressive because they are
doing whatever they can to prove that Buddhism is the master religion. A similar, but not as radical
example can be seen with senator Ted Cruz and other political figures. While they are very openly
Christian (another religion that is not too keen on the idea of violence) and support religious freedom,
when it comes to religions other than their own, their views change. This can be seen with supporting
armed protests outside mosques, or be open to carpet bombs in Syria. Both of these things are far from
the true religion, but the person is still seen as openly religious. When corruption occurs, people can
put selfish interests above what they were spiritually and morally taught to

The Conflict Of The Palestinian Negotiations
The word colonization and encroachment of lands reach a new level when we talk about the Occupied
Palestinian territory. In 1948, with the establishment of the state of Israel more than three quarters of
the Palestinian population were forcibly dispossessed and expelled to become refugees in neighboring
Arab states to make way for the newcomers (Giacaman et al., 2009).
Since then the lives of British Mandate Palestinians kept on becoming worse with ongoing conflicts
and failed attempts of resolutions. The outcomes of the Israeli Palestinian negotiations to peace have
not yet been determined. But what has been seen is that since the eruption of violence in September
2000, Palestinians have suffered from a lack of access to basic services, particularly much needed
medical services and violations of the health related rights, which have also increased considerably
with time (Stefanini Ziv, 2004).
From that time, multiple roadblocks have been established in the West Bank and in the Gaza,
preventing people in these areas from accessing medical care. Physical barriers have been established
around villages, medical personnel have been denied free passage, ambulances were torched with fire,
hospitals have been surrounded by tanks and searched and have been left without medical supplies,
residents have been imprisoned in their homes without basic food items or access to medicines
(Stefanini Ziv, 2004).
This assignment will outline the major health problems in the Occupied

What Is The Moral Of Frankenstein
The message, merits, and moral implications of Mary Shelley s Frankenstein have been long debated
and discussed. Many recurring themes which are apt to surface in these conversations are those such
as the woes of artificial creation and the man is not God argument. These themes have been so
thoroughly explored and exploited that this essay could not possibly generate and original thought
within the realms covered by these topics. In order to formulate something remotely fresh and at least
relatively interesting, this essay seeks to shift the focus to the less explored dilemmas which Shelley
may have purposely or subconsciously woven into the classic novel. The very fact that Mary Shelley
is a woman casts the already remarkable tale ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Having shown that Shelley intended for Victor to play the role of mother in her analogy, focus will
now shift to the ultimate point of the novel: The nurturing provided by a mother (Victor), is the most
necessary and vital experience of a child s life and directly affects the person he becomes. From the
very beginning, Victor shirks the responsibility of nurture and literally runs from it. As the creature
awakes he exclaims: breathless horror and disgust filled my heart. Unable to endure the aspect of the
being I had created; I rushed out of the room (Shelley 58). The Monster then immediately assumes the
role of infant in the relationship as Victor says, His eyes were fixed on me. His jaws opened, and he
muttered some inarticulate sounds, while a grin wrinkled his cheeks (Shelley 59). In the normal
human realm this situation would be met with a dozen tear filled eyes seeking to hold and coddle the
creation. Unfortunately for the Monster, no such treatment is offered by Victor. Frankenstein leaves
the Monster to fend for himself. The horrible consequences of this lack of nurturing follow with
intensity and frequency. This is proven by the rapidly building sense of confusion and loneliness
within the monster. Feelings which are only multiplied by society s general rejection of him. The
Monster laments to Victor upon their reunion on these feelings, no distinct ideas occupied my mind:
all was confused. I felt light, and

It s All in the Head:
A study of modern characterization through the works of Salinger and Woolf
During the twentieth century, many writers emerged including, J.D. Salinger and Virginia Woolf.
Virginia Woolf helped show that the novel didn t have to just be about the big and the grand, but also
the everyday. Salinger and Woolf s books often included intimate details from their lives. They
broadened the field of what was considered acceptable for writing. For example, in The New Dress , a
short story by Virginia Woolf, Mabel struggles with depression and bipolar disorder. Woolf also
struggled with depression and bipolar disorder throughout her life. In addition, Salinger used ... Show

In the works of Salinger and Woolf, the reader first notices that stream of consciousness does not
allow for the characters to keep secrets and reveals their hypocrisy as they behave differently than
their thoughts. Holden s hidden sides are revealed in when he talks about those who he cares about
such as when he talks about his dead brother: My brother Allie has this left handed fielder s mitt
(Salinger 38). Holden says I m the most terrific liar you ever saw in your life but shows that he
actually cares about people in his life such as Jane Gallagher and his siblings Allie and Phoebe
(Salinger 16). In Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Woolf, Peter Walsh, a former lover of Mrs Dalloway,
visits her and tries to seem detached but we see from inside his mind his true thoughts: But it was
Clarissa one remembered...Not that she was striking; not beautiful at all; there was nothing
picturesque about her; she never said anything especially clever; there she was, however; there she
was. No, no, no! He was not in love with her any more! (Dalloway 76). Peter has been unable to move
on from Clarissa and he tries to convince himself and others that he loves another woman, but he
cannot lie to himself and therefore we, the readers, see the truth. Stream of consciousness is also used
for characterization of individuals because the characters are transparent. An example

Climatic Control Of Antarctic Sea Ice Essay
What are the Climatic Controls on Changes in Antarctic Sea Ice?
Abstract
Unlike Arctic sea ice, which is currently decreasing at a rate which may make it seasonally ice free
before the end of the 21st century (Körper et al., 2013), Antarctic sea ice (ASI) is experiencing an
overall steady increase, albeit with strong regional variations (Zwally et al., 2002). Here is outlined the
main climatic processes and factors which cause and control changes in ASI, studied using both
climate modelling (Körper et al., 2013; Li et al., 2013; Vancoppenolle et al., 2009) and direct
observations (Jacobs and Cosimo, 1997; Parkinson and Cavalieri, 2012). In general, there seems to be
a large combination of factors which are causing the regional variations and overall increase in ASI,
many of which are interlinked (Kwok and Cosimo, 2002; Stammerjohn et al., 2008; Yuan and Li,
2008). This report also highlights how climate models need to be tested against real life observations
to ensure accurate predictions for the future (Goosse et al., 2009; Maksym et al., 2012; Vancoppenolle
et al., 2009), which are important in the face of growing concern over climate change and sea level
rise, in which ASI may play a huge part (Körper et al., 2013).
Introduction
Sea ice in Antarctica is increasing as a result of many climatic factors controlling the conditions and
dynamics of the continent and Southern Ocean. This report aims to outline which climatic factors or
systems exert a control on Antarctic sea

Analysis Of The New York Times By David Brooks Essay
Argumentative Essay on Supporting Our Students
In an article by The New York Times, by David Brooks, called, Support Our students. Brooks explains
that instead of free college, maybe they should help college students with everyday needs. He said that
college is already free for the working class and underpaid. (Brooks) He doesn t believe that making
community college free will help anymore with the debt, then it did before. In sum, I will discuss the
argument that David Brooks portrays and explain why I agree with it. I will talk about three main
points from Brooks article and discuss what it s like in other countries that do have free college.
In David Brooks article, he mentions that students actually have free college at their disposal. By
using pell grants and scholarships, he believes that we re set. I don t disagree. In my experience, my
scholarship and my pell grant both pay for my school. However, I must have one scholarship to
receive the other and as a student that comes from a poor household, my pell grant covers all of my
college expenses aside from my books. He said it s more beneficial if instead of making college free,
that they should help the students. (Brooks) Such as living expenses, book fees, and transportation.
(Brooks) He mentions how most students have jobs, full or part time. (Brooks) I am lucky enough to
have a free living space on food, but I have a part time job and most of my money goes towards

The Ancient Greeks And Ancient Hebrews
HIS 120 The history of the ancient Greeks and ancient Hebrews is very interesting. The two groups
had very different beliefs concerning higher powers and what kind of gods they trusted in. The
Hebrews believed in one God who ruled over them and controlled everything. The Greeks believed in
multiple gods each ruling their own area of life. Fighting was a very prevalent activity for both of
these groups, as it still is for many groups today. However, the reasons for fighting and violence were
very different for the Hebrews and Greeks. This can be explained by comparing texts such as The Iliad
and the books of 1 and 2 Samuel, which tell many battle stories of the Greeks and Hebrews. To start
off, we must talk about the ancient Greeks. As ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is essential to see that this wrath was truly a result of the actions of a god. The gods played a large
role in the Iliad. The gods were always quarreling with each other. Each god picked a side for whom
they wanted to win the war between the Greeks and Trojans. Zeus moved back and forth between
sides, depending on what the other gods convinced him of. There was a section between books 12 and
16 which said that Hera seduced Zeus to divert his attention from the Greek s success. But Zeus
awoke and helped the Trojans advance on the Greeks. This nagging and fighting between gods occurs
throughout the entire war. Each god wants to get what they want. This is turn causes the mortals to do
the same. The actual warriors fought for their own reasons. They did not fight for their gods, but for
themselves. They fought for honor, glory, praise, and riches. Hector, the king of Priam and main
Trojan warrior, said he would much rather die in battle than escape to safety. Why is this? He did not
want to be shamed. It was a much more honorable thing to die fighting than to run off and live with
your family. This was the case for every soldier in these battles. Everyone wanted honor and glory and
praise for themselves. They did not care about anyone else. They fought each other without mercy just
so they could be the best. These powerful warriors were not commanded by anyone to go out and fight
one another. They did it because they wanted honor and glory from others.

Billy Collins On Turning Ten
Often times readers desire for works that they can relate to on a personal level. With that in mind Billy
Collins wrote a poem entitled, On Turning Ten discusses the hardships experienced from growing up.
The poem is written from the perspective of a child who has turned ten years old and is looking back
at their great life as a very young kid. The child sees the world in a different way and feels sad that he
has grown up. Collins, through his poem, displays the emotional hardship of growing older and causes
the reader to relate to the child as they remember their own experiences growing up. Collins uses
imagery to instill empathy within the reader as they have also felt the speaker s internal turmoil. The
child is talking about how growing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The child seems to address the reader and says, You tell me it s too early to be looking back, but that is
because you have forgotten the perfect simplicity of being one and the beautiful complexity
introduced by two (76). The child goes on to list more magnificent experiences he had as a younger
child. With these lines Collins masterfully predicts what the reader must be feeling. The reader is
doubtful at first that this boy is old enough to be thinking about this, but as the stanza carries on they
begin to realize he has a point. Collins reminds the reader of possible memories they have and proves
that what this child is feeling is valid. The boy goes on to proclaim, It is time to say goodbye to my
imaginary friends, time to turn the first big number. Collins suggests that an active and free roaming
imagination must be let go as one grows older. Again he targets the readers past experiences and
reminds them that growing up can be a really sad thing. The reader is also reminded of the fun
childhood they lost. It is clear to see that adults who have forgotten their past are the targeted audience
as the poem reminds them of old times and causes them to remember lost memories of growing

Benefits Of An Limited Liability Company From A Legal...
The LLC remains a limited liability company from a legal standpoint, but for tax purposes it can be
treated as an S Corp. Be sure to contact the state s income tax agency where you plan to file your
election form. Ask about the tax requirements and if they recognize elections of other entities (such as
the S Corp).
Advantages of an LLC:
Limited Liability. Members are protected from personal liability for business decisions or actions of
the LLC. This means that if the LLC incurs debt or is sued, members personal assets are usually
exempt. This is similar to the liability protections afforded to shareholders of a corporation. Keep in
mind that limited liability means limited liability members are not necessarily shielded from wrongful
acts, including those of their employees.
Less Recordkeeping. An LLC s operational ease is one of its greatest advantages. Compared to an S
Corporation, there is less registration paperwork and there are smaller start up costs.
Sharing of Profits. There are fewer restrictions on profit sharing within an LLC, as members distribute
profits as they see fit. Members might contribute different proportions of capital and sweat equity.
Consequently, it s up to the members themselves to decide who has earned what percentage of the
profits or losses.
Disadvantages of an LLC:
Limited Life. In many states, when a member leaves an LLC, the business is dissolved and the
members must fulfill all remaining legal and business obligations to close

Running Away Research Paper
When the moment comes when you realize that your teenage son or daughter is missing and you
believe he or she has run away from home, it can be intense. You may panic and experience a variety
of thoughts and emotions about your child s safety and wonder what you should do next. There are
concrete steps you can take to find your child s whereabouts. The following are among the most
important. Contact those who know your child Obviously this includes friends of your child, but you
also want to speak to parents of your child s friends as well. If your teenager has a job, you should
contact them and also the school they attend. The idea is to determine who was the last known person

The amount of clothes they took will be a clue as to how long your teenager plans to be gone. It is
common for teens to runaway for a short time, but plan to return quickly. There may be items that they
left behind that have great meaning to them, and this may indicate that their running away was a
decision done on impulse, so they may not be gone for too long. Contact the police All of the
information you have gathered from your child s friends, their job and school can be given to the
police. You will also need to provide a recent photograph of your teenager to the police, so have this
ready. Even if you think your child will be back in the next day or two, if your teenager is a minor, you
must contact the police. You could be wrong, and their assistance can be invaluable in getting your
teenage back. Use the services of a private investigator The police have a heavy case load when it
comes to runaway teenagers, so the time they put into finding your teenage son or daughter is going to
be limited. The best course of action is to call a private investigator, and the sooner you do this, the
better the chances are that your teenager will be found. The trail will still be warm. Unlike the police,
we are not involved in finding criminals. We are focused on a more narrow range of services, and
locating people is one of them. If your teenager has runaway from home, there is a very good chance

Descriptive Essay On My Thursday Morning
The clock glares off the white tile floor, my blushed face matches the bright lettering on the clock.
Collected dust and dirt from the students shoes has now ended up all along of the back of my pants.
What a great way to start off my thursday morning. Beep, beep, beep, sounded my alarm, 7:05 glared
across the screen of my fluorescent alarm clock into my squinted eyes in the barely lit room. My legs
quickly jolted out of my bed, I was late again, I was supposed to be in the car by 7:25, of course since
I was already running very late, it was also the type of morning when I had nothing prepared. I had no
idea what to wear, and hadn t packed my lunch or backpack, but at this point i had only been awake
for around 5 minutes, so I wasn t thinking very clearly. I grabbed all of my stuff and made it out the
door only 5 minutes late. Since I left a little bit late, I had to sit in traffic on Woodruff Road, but
luckily I made it to first period on time, I was in geometry, when the teacher asked us to get out our
homework, I dug in my backpack and couldn t find my notebook anywhere, meaning that I had left it
at home. So I had already woken up late, and now also forgotten my math homework, I figured that
my thursday couldn t get much worse, I was wrong.
It was newly spring, meaning it was time to start wearing sandals. I was wearing my brand new Sam
Edelman shoes. They were taupe and laced up, with a very thin bottom with clearly no friction, this
was my first mistake. I had

Antitrust Laws Limit Corporate Aqusition
Introduction
Since the late nineteenth century, the federal government has challenged business practices and
mergers that create or may create a monopoly in a particular market. Federal legislation has varied in
effectiveness in terms of preventing anti competitive mergers.
Antitrust law is enacted by the federal and various state governments to (1) regulate trade and
commerce by preventing unlawful restraints, price fixing, and monopolies; (2) promote competition;
and (3) encourage the production of quality goods and services with the primary goal of safeguarding
public welfare by ensuring that consumer demands will be met by the manufacture and sale of goods

Marginalization Of Women In Persepolis
In the graphic novel, Persepolis, Marjane Satrapi creates a visual representation of what life was like
in Iran, being a girl growing up there during the Islamic Revolution. Transitioning from a child to an
adult, Marjane comes to many realizations about her life. She sees how women are marginalized and
looked down upon by people, especially Islamic men. Growing up in a communist household, she has
insight on how people were silenced by the government for not following Islam. Throughout this
book, one can see that the marginalization of women is a clear theme. This has a lot to do with the
time and place this book is set in, which is in Tehran Iran, during the Islamic Revolution. Marjane
recalls how much this revolution impacted her life. Before the revolution she was free to be an
unmolded child, running around, wearing what she wanted, playing with her friends; but once the
revolution began, things started to change. Women and girls had to start wearing hijabs, bilingual
schools were shut down, and boys and girls were separated. Women were told they were sluts if they
weren t wearing their hijab. This happens to Marjane s mother when she was walking down the street
without a hijab on and confronted by two men, who assaulted her and said she Should be pushed up
against a wall and fucked. And then thrown in the garbage (74). A similar instance occurred to
Marjane when she was walking to the store. A Muslim woman who was assigned to arrest other
women who were improperly veiled, came up to Marjane and told her, Lower your scarf, you little
whore! (133). Satrapi uses the constant mention of clothing and hijabs to symbolize how women were
treated in general during the revolution in Iran.
Another constant theme one can see throughout this book, is the silencing and oppression of non
Islamic people, especially communists. Marjane s parents were communists, so she witnessed first
hand what it was like to be in a communist family growing up during the Islamic Revolution. Her
parents were careful about their actions, always making sure no one in authority found out what they
were talking about. The government created laws and regulations to try and make everyone follow
Islam, and if they didn t, they were

implemented throughout all of the American colonies, inhabitants of colonial Boston experienced

At a time following his marriage, he was imprisoned for accumulating unpaid debt and following his

What Is The Theme Of Death In The Indian Camp By Ernest...
Everyone is born to live and to die. People go through life fearing the inevitable which in the end is
always death. Ernest Hemingway wrote two short stories that examine this idea of life and death
through the use of a variety of different symbols. In both Indian Camp and The Killers , Hemingway
examines these ideas by putting forth a character named Nick Adams. Nick Adams develops as a
character throughout these stories ultimately learning lessons about life and death that will better his
understanding of the world. Nick goes from having an imperfect immature understanding of death in
the Indian Camp to a more mature and grown up understanding in The Killers . In Indian Camp , Nick
believes that the only way one will die is if they kill themselves. Nicks father also brings Nick to the
Indian Camp where his father will deliver a baby. Nicks father wants Nick to watch the birth and learn
the importance of life, but instead the procedure takes a turn for the worst and Nick becomes disturbed
by what he sees. In The Killers , Nicks understanding of death becomes more understood when he
notices how Ole Anderson has given up on life and has ultimately taught Nick the lesson that death is
inevitable. By his use of light and characters lying down in bed facing the wall in both The Killers and
Indian Camp , Hemingway is attempting to show us how Nick develops a better understanding of light
and death.

The Swann v. Charlotte Mecklenburg Board of Education was trying to improve their school because
many of the blacks were attending black schools. This was a de facto segregation because of the
separation of the blacks and whites (Sewall and Witcher, 1998). The central issue of the case was that

Essay The Situation for Refugees and Immigrants in the USA
The United States of America has always been a refuge where poor and oppressed people from the far
corners of the world can come to begin a new life. Much of the nation s allure to prospective
immigrants is in its promise of equal opportunity for all, regardless of race, creed, or color. But the
pressures of rising unemployment rates, congested cities, a crippled healthcare system, and national
debt skyrocketing out of control have caused America to defend her borders against the influx of
immigrants that threaten her already ailing economy. Still, despite all the heightened security measures
incorporated in recent decades, a steady stream of immigrants continue to enter the country illegally.

This mistrust of American society promotes a sense of isolation and alienation from the community.
Authority figures, such as police and other first responders, may unwittingly strike fear into the hearts
of these children because they have been conditioned to believe that these figures have the power, as
well as the mandate, to destroy families. This mindset tends to discourage assimilation into
mainstream American communities and promote instead the tendency of these families to cluster into
small, ethnically concentrated barrios, or neighborhoods. Within these barrios, the culture and lifestyle
of Mexico is recreated, which often reinforces psychological and physical isolation from mainstream
American culture. Alliances are formed with others in similar circumstances, where commiseration
often leads to a rising sense of resentment. It is not uncommon for angry groups to rise up in
opposition to the society that is viewed as the oppressor. Evidence of this can be seen almost daily as
senseless gang violence permeates our news broadcasts, plagues our communities, and terrorizes our
citizens. Because they do not have the legal right to work in this country, undocumented immigrants
earn very little. Unscrupulous employers are quick to exploit these workers, paying them considerably
less than state minimum wage laws mandate. Thus, immigrant families are forced to live in sub
standard conditions and eek out an

Why Do Grades Matter
Do grades matter is a question a student might think about. Grades might seem to matter ever since
kindergarten. Grades might not seem to matter until high school, so students can access college, or
individuals might only matter in college. Grades do matter for the reason that students need to have
excellent grades to access the chance to enter college. Also, students need excellent grades, so students
can access the chance for a job since employers look at an individual s grades to identify if an
individual are adequate for the job. For instance, grades matter if students wish to progress to college.
Universities review individuals GPA to examine if they are fit for the specific college. Therefore,
assuming that an individual is foreseen to proceed into a graduate or medical school; high school and
college grades do affect the outcome. Grades in college in exceedingly in the majority of
circumstances will determine if individuals are chosen. Experienced admission officers say that grades
predict success in work more effectively than test scores. Institutes that have a high status can only

Analysis Of Centennial Park Pond System
1. Introduction and objectives
Centennial Park has the largest freshwater wetland system in inner metropolitan area of Sydney. Its
ponds cover approximately 26 ha of area connected in a water flow system that acts as detention basin
for stormwater drainage during flood events (Centennial Parklands, ponds, 2016). Moreover, these
ponds provided the water as the Sydney s main source of drinking water from 1837. The park provides
an open area for families and kids to enjoy picnics and therefore the pond is required to maintain its
water quality and sustainable for the environment.
The report reviews the Centennial Park pond system; it acts as a performance around the outskirts of
the flood retention basin, and the report also reviews regarding full flood conservation and water
quality norm to find a potential problem in the system and is coming up with improvements.
2. Background
Flooding History: Historical records show that there were several flooding within the catchment
November 1984, January1991. For instance, driver Avenue was road flooded (Michael Wyk , 2016).
Water Pollution: From previous engineering reports, from early mid1990s, it was estimated that blue
green algal blooms occurred in most of the ponds in the Centennial Park over several years (Mal
Brown, 2012).Due to the accumulation of the nutrients in the Musgrave Pond from the storm water
inflow, the nutrient enriched the water in the pond (Mal Brown, 2012).

Holistic Management Part One: British Airways and Further International Expansion of their Luxury
Brand Company Profile and Problem British Airways is one of the airline brands in the world and the
company has been operating (under different names and forms of ownership) since 1919 (British
Airways, 2012). In its earliest incarnation, the airline was an international carrier which began by
offering service from London to Paris. Operations changed over the years as the company was
nationalized in 1939 and then re privatized in the 1980 s, but the focus remained international flights
(British Airways, 2012). Due to the fact that the people of Great Britain were interested in some of the
most exotic locations in the world, British Airways has always tried to deliver routes that can take
passengers from Heathrow to any destination in the world. However, any of these routes are
unprofitable, and sense the government was no longer subsidizing the airline as heavily, new means of
finding and maintaining these routes had to be explored. In recent years, British Airways, and other
airlines, have realized that to maximize the number of destinations that they could service, they had to
work together. In some cases this meant merging with other airlines, but for many airlines it meant
that exclusive partnership agreements were reached that would allow customers to reach a destination
flying different airlines, but with a lower cost because of these types of agreements. British

The practice of Inoculation is used to prevent a more serious infection by introducing a small amount
of disease into the body to build immunity. The individual may be slightly ill but after the fight off the

if his theory was correct, were they immune. I noticed that Jenner didn t use himself to test this theory,

people, yet between those dates Reno, Nevada showed a decrease of 283 burglaries. As for Sparks,
Nevada, the UCR data showed an increase of the population of 8,596 people and just like Reno,
Nevada, Sparks, Nevada, showed a decrease of 131 burglaries. Although both cities had an increase in
population, both had a decrease in burglaries reported to law enforcement agencies. Most would

This Goldfish Would You Wish By Barbara Jordan Quotes
Hunter Gagnon English Hour 1 Collection Essay It s a small world and we all have our own
characteristics and personalities. Barbara Jordan s quote, We as human beings, must be willing to
accept people who are different from ourselves. This quote is saying that we have to accept people for
who they are no matter how different they might be from us. There are three literary pieces that help
us illustrate Barbara Jordan s quote. What of This Goldfish Would You Wish? , Universal Declaration
of Independence , and Texas V. Johnson, These literary pieces show us how to accept people for who
they are by communication, understanding rights, and tolerating each other. Communication is key in
trying to accept someone. In the short story What of This Goldfish Would You Wish? by Etgar Keret is
about a guy who was walking around town going door to door ... Show more content on

In the court opinion Texas v. Johnson by William J. Brennan there are examples that portray that
knowing someone s rights are important in acceptance. We submit that nobody can suppose that this
one gesture of an unknown man will change our nation s attitude towards its flag. (Brennan 2). This
quote is saying that just because one person does something wrong we can t judge other people for
someone else s wrongs. This quote goes along with Barbara Jordan s quote because even though
someone has done something wrong and they are different from ourselves we have to be willing to
accept someone. (Brennan 2). The way to preserve the flag s special role is not to punish those who
feel differently about these matters. This quote also portrays that we have to accept those who feel
differently about the things that we feel towards. This quote goes along with Barbara Jordan s quote
because it is saying that we have to accept those who feel differently from our

Analysis Of Elizabeth Bowen s The Demon Lover
Gogri 10 Elizabeth Bowen: The Writings of War Jay Gogri Sr. Marlene Mucha, S.S.J British
Literature February 10, 2016 Elizabeth Bowen: The Writings of War What forces a person to write? It
could be feelings, situations, or even experiences. Writers such as George Orwell and Sylvia Plath
influenced the world with their writing. As a major writer in the Blitz era, Elizabeth Bowen wrote her
experiences in the war. Using the atmosphere and the surroundings as a source of her writing,
Elizabeth created many different novels and short stories that played on the emotions of the people.
One major short story, The Demon Lover, displayed the Blitz as a tool for devastation. Although
Elizabeth Bowen s The Demon Lover depicts a mysterious and eerie atmosphere full of ghosts, it also
portrays war as a destructive and catastrophic force. Born on June 7, 1899, Elizabeth Dorothea Cole
Bowen, formally known as Elizabeth Bowen, was a major British novelist and short story writer. The
year 1899 was, the eve of what has been called by many the century of total war.?[endnoteRef:1]
Bowen spent most of her childhood in Dublin. Her father, due to certain illnesses, died when she was
the age of seven. Similarly, her mother suffered a terrible death. Elizabeth then lived with her relatives
on the Kentish Coast. As a writer, she wanted to write about her feelings, the surrounding atmosphere,
and the perplexity of war. Elizabeth Bowen described war, ? . . . more as a

Truth and Deception in Advertising
ruth And Deception In Advertising There is much to be discussed about what the role advertising has
in today s society. Everywhere you look, and go there is usually some sort of advertising present.
Whether watching TV, walking around a mall, or reading a magazine, people are bombarded with
advertising. So it brings into question, what kind of role should advertising have, and what kind of
ethics should merchants of products go by. There are many different opinions on the ethics merchants
should have. Some people believe they should have a tell all type of approach when making a sale,
while others on the other end believe that merchants should do whatever it takes to make the sale,
even if it means lying. Here I have presented the two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Suppressio Veri does not support this notion, instead puts the seller at an advantage over the buyer.
Another notion that Machan brings up is the idea of how some from an altruistic sense (concern for
well being and welfare of others) would feel about the ethics of advertising/merchants role. Of course
those from an altruistic sense would favor the tell all stance, and see Suppressio Veri as being wrong,
As Machan says, If we are to live solely to do good for others, then when we have reason to believe
that telling the whole truth will promote others well being, we morally ought to tell the whole truth to
the person. So when a merchant has reason to believe that telling his customers about lover prices
elsewhere (for goods which he sells at higher price) will benefit his customer, he ought morally to do
so. This basis, not only an opposition to Suppressio Veri but also in part to the merchant ethic and
Caveat Emptor, I see as having defaults.
Machan mentions, as the theory of intuitionism state s, One should not promote one s weaknesses, one
should not volunteer information detrimental to one s prospects. And then goes on to give a good
example of why he believes the altruistic way fails, I doubt anyone would seriously advise job seeking
philosophers to list their CVs rejected articles and denied promotions that would be counterintuitive .
Here is why I feel the tell all, altruistic approach to advertising fails.

Finding an off brand product for less than 50% is not always a deal. Recognized brands have
warranties and back up the product s quality. That 50% savings could create a DIY nightmare costing
three times more to replace or repair.
Tile Work
Incorrect tile placements are common mistakes for the DIY projects. Wrong positions and gaps are
hard to hide. Start out by working from the center of the space. Working from the center to outside
edge keeps the tile layout looking the same. Only one way to fix this mistake, remove the tile and start
over.
Grouting
There are two types of grout; sanded and unsanded. Sanded grout is used for most home improvement
projects. Unsanded is used for small tile joints, stone or glass tile because the sanded grout can
damage this type of material. Make sure you are using the recommended manufacturer s grout
material; otherwise, you may find yourself replacing the tiles.

Constitutional Conflict of the Dealth Penalty Essay
Constitutional Conflict of the Dealth Penalty The courts positions of the death penalty has changed
over the years. For centuries societies have used death as the ultimate penalty for crime. In the 1960 s,
the court ruled against the death penalty as a cruel and unusual punishment , which was forbidden by
the eighth amendment of the Constitution. By the 1990 s the death penalty was again in wide use
supported by the court and Congress, which continually expanded by legislation the crimes for which
death would be an acceptable penalty. Supreme Court cases that have felt the death penalty was
unconstitutional include Roberts vs. Louisiana and Furman vs. Georgia. Roberts vs. Louisiana, (1976)
was a case that tried Robert, who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These circumstances included air craft highjacking; treason; murder for hire; murder of a judicial
officer, policeman, or fireman in line of duty; and murder by a person with a previous record of
violent crime. This decision made it clear that the justices did not consider the death penalty per say to
be cruel and unusual punishment in the sense intended by the constitution. (Davis, 196 197). The
justices reaffirmed what an unbiased historical and legal analysis would reveal every time that our
forefathers were not against Capitol Punishment but against the misapplication of punishment
bringing about injustice. Philosophically speaking there is a strange twist in logic to call Capitol
Punishment inhuman or cruel. The inhumanity and cruelty was the crime that called for capitol
consequences. The inhuman act was performed by the criminal in murder not on the criminal through
capitol punishment. It can be argued that if one were to mandate a life sentence for a murderer that it
is cruel and inhumane to expose inmates, guards and counselors to a volatile criminal. In fact there are
many cases of murderers killing innocent victims while incarcerated. Was it cruel and inhumane to
sustain the life of such a criminal so that he was given further opportunity to carry out his evil ways?

King Lear Vs A Thousand Acres Analysis
King Lear vs A Thousand Acres
While it may appear that Jane Smiley s A Thousand Acres is nothing but a modernized interpretation
of Shakespeare s King Lear, one can see that below the surface these two tales are anything but alike.
Through Smiley s characters Larry, Caroline, Ginny and Rose, it is easy to conclude that they contrast
their parallels, Lear, Cordelia, Goneril and Rose, greatly from Shakespeare s play. Among the multiple
themes that make this conclusion possible, the most prominent are the contrasting themes of
relationships, outcomes, character development and motivations.
At first, Shakespeare portrays King Lear as an arrogant man whose only concern is himself; Lear has
no problem relishing in his title and power as ruler, but has trouble carrying out the responsibilities of
a king and doing good for his people. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Caroline is portrayed as an intelligent, successful and well put together daughter, which is more than
Cordelia was perceived as. While Caroline was in fact pushed away due to her not agreeing with her
fathers ideas, instead of being seen as the good daughter, she is envied by her sisters. As for her
relationship with her father Larry, she was more or less forced into caring for him. Due to her
ignorance towards his molestation of Ginny and Rose, Caroline takes in her father and attempts to
protect him from her sisters who she believes are trying to hurt him. While Rose tries to convince
Caroline that Ginny and her are in fact trying to help, We did everything for you! We saved you from
Daddy! (Smiley 244), Caroline disagrees saying, Did I really have to be saved from Daddy? From my
own father? (Smiley 244). While Caroline is forced to care for her father because her sisters would
not, Cordelia willingly forgave and went with her father. This difference in relationships only further
aid the reader to conclude that Shakespeare and Smiley s work are not

Infrastructural Technology Proprietary technologies vs. Infrastructural technology Proprietary technologies can be owned, actively and effectively, at times by a single company. For instance, a pharmaceutical holding a patent on a particular compound that is the basis for a drug is an example of proprietary technologies. Infrastructural technology on the other hand provides more value when shared rather than used by a single organization. A company having all the rights to building railroads is an example of Infrastructural technology. This company can operate efficiently, but the effect to the economy is greater if the technology is shared and companies build railroads that can connect more buyers and sellers. He further argues that the use commodities do not lead to a completive advantage, and believes that IT has become commoditized for the following reasons: IT is highly replicable The arrival of the internet has accelerated the its commoditization IT is subject to rapid price deflation I agree with Carr s assessment on the commoditization of IT to some degree. For instance, it makes no sense for an organization to spend money in customizing a product when a similar product can be bought at a relatively good price. Organizations no longer write their application, they simple buy one that is available in the market (e,g. Microsoft Office). I do not agree with Carr when he states that organizations such as IBM and Microsoft recognize this trend and have position themselves as IT utilities companies as more companies replace customized application with generic ones. That the internet has increased the commoditization of IT by providing a perfect delivery channel for generic applications and more and more organization will obtain their IT requirement by purchasing fee based web services ... According to some of the comments on Facebook, people will no longer do business with the dealership if they remove the statue because it is history and as Americans, we should not remove statues because people are offended. According to a Facebook poll by John Le WLOS reporter, on June 4, 2018, 94% of the voters said the statue should stay; however, Harry s on the Hill Facebook post also has people in favor of removing the statue. According to the dealership, they will not tolerate racist and derogatory comments since they go against their values. Since the removal of the statue was in the same posting as their core values, it seems they will have to remove the statue even if potential customers leave. If they do not remove the statue, it will look like they do not uphold their values. The poor decision to not consider the reaction to all publics has placed this dealership in a no win situation, and now they have the difficult decision to remove the statue or let it stay. After the Civil War during the Reconstruction Era, many changed their outlook from optimistic to a more realistic outlook on life. The time period between 1870 and 1910 was when the literary movements, Realism and Naturalism in literature became prominent. Authors like Stephen Crane and Mary Chesnut wrote novels that followed these movements. These writings helped influence today s writers to write more about current events and how they affect people. • 6. Love And Love Essay LOVE HATE I. INTRODUCTION As we grow up in life, we grow up with the understanding that we are loved or to give love. Sometimes that love turns into hate depending on the circumstances which it involves. As Christians, we are taught to show and give love to all and not to hate anyone. God directs us to teach others to do the same. With that being said, love and hate have an enormous amount of meaning that can be explained in a Theological, Biblical and Practical manner. II. PART ONE LOVE A. Theological Definition The theological meaning of love in the bible is expressed equal throughout. According to the International Standard Bible Encyclopedia, it describes love as, Love to both God and man is fundamental to true religion, whether as expressed in the Old Testament or the New Testament. As Christians, we are to give and show love to Jesus Christ, others and ourselves. Love is sometimes very hard to express when you have pain against someone or something. When you at this point you need to turn it to God and ask for help with those feelings. Each feeling, whether it be love or hate comes from a source like good and evil. This comparison is just like God and Satan. God loves all and shows it daily to us, where Satan is the opposite. He demonstrates how to motivate us with burdensome and struggles. We need always to remember that those inner thoughts or feelings are sinful. It says in John 3:16, For God so loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him should not die but have eternal life (American Bible Society, 954). • 7. The English Language During The Civil Rights Movement In our society, the English language has evolved over time and certain words have grown to have different meanings. Overtime the language shifts. A word would have the same letters for 50 years but different definitions throughout the time period also known as the semantic change. One such word is the word wasp . Most commonly referring to the pest that flies around in our backyards that sting us and leaves us with quite the mark. But this was not the case after the American Civil War up in the 1860 s until the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960 s. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The words do not change in their initiative meanings but change in a means that they attain other meanings or are used to refer to other named objects over time. For example, the word mouse is used to refer to tiny long tailed animal however, it is now also used to refer to a device used to rheostat cursor movement. The alteration of meaning occurs because words are constantly used and what is intended by speakers is not exactly the same each time. If a different intention for a word is shared by the speech community and becomes established in usage, then a semantic change has occurred. (Malkiel, Yakov). Overtime, the KKK member population has declined due to alternating historical events. Along with the group, the word WASP has changed also. In the modern time, WASP is used to simply describe upper class white people. The problem with this is that the same word that was used in the late 1800s to describe an extremely racist, violent, and unethical group is also now used to describe a general group of people who are in no way affiliated with former Another problem is that the term does not seem to be incorrect use. Unlike the term ASP being used today, an Angelo Saxon protestant is from lower middle class England, particularly East Anglia, in the early 1600s. Some, like the Puritans, came to North America because they opposed the Church of England. (Abagond). . • 8. The Four Noble Truths And The Noble Eightfold Path The core principals of Buddhism can be found in The Four Noble Truths and The Noble Eightfold Path. The Four Noble Truths are the truths about life. The first one is that in order to live, you re going to suffer. Mind and body can inevitably become sick and lead to stress in life. Second noble truth is that suffering stems from a cause; desire. They go hand in hand in an inverse relationship. If someone desires to be private, they re constantly going to be worried about when they re not alone. This is so prevalent that the pleasure they get from being alone is not worth the struggle of privacy. The third noble truth is tied in by saying to end the suffering; a person must end all desires. Lastly, the fourth noble truth describes the best ways to end suffering is to follow the eightfold path. To find inner peace, someone must follow the eightfold path. A similar, but not as radical example can be seen with senator Ted Cruz and other political figures. While they are very openly Christian (another religion that is not too keen on the idea of violence) and support religious freedom, when it comes to religions other than their own, their views change. This can be seen with supporting armed protests outside mosques, or be open to carpet bombs in Syria. • 9. The Conflict Of The Palestinian Negotiations The word colonization and encroachment of lands reach a new level when we talk about the Occupied Palestinian territory. In 1948, with the establishment of the state of Israel more than three quarters of the Palestinian population were forcibly dispossessed and expelled to become refugees in neighboring Arab states to make way for the newcomers (Giacaman et al., 2009). Since then the lives of British Mandate Palestinians kept on becoming worse with ongoing conflicts and failed attempts of resolutions. The outcomes of the Israeli Palestinian negotiations to peace have not yet been determined. But what has been seen is that since the eruption of violence in September 2000, Palestinians have suffered from a lack of access to basic services, particularly much needed medical services and violations of the health related rights, which have also increased considerably with time (Stefanini Ziv, 2004). From that time, multiple roadblocks have been established in the West Bank and in the Gaza, preventing people in these areas from accessing medical care. Physical barriers have been established around villages, medical personnel have been denied free passage, ambulances were torched with fire, hospitals have been surrounded by tanks and searched and have been left without medical supplies, residents have been imprisoned in their homes without basic food items or access to medicines (Stefanini Ziv, 2004). Many recurring themes which are apt to surface in these conversations are those such as the woes of artificial creation and the man is not God argument. These themes have been so thoroughly explored and exploited that this essay could not possibly generate and original thought within the realms covered by these topics. Having shown that Shelley intended for Victor to play the role of mother in her analogy, focus will now shift to the ultimate point of the novel: The nurturing provided by a mother (Victor), is the most necessary and vital experience of a child s life and directly affects the person he becomes. From the very beginning, Victor shirks the responsibility of nurture and literally runs from it. As the creature awakes he exclaims: breathless horror and disgust filled my heart. Unable to endure the aspect of the being I had created; I rushed out of the room (Shelley 58). The Monster then immediately assumes the role of infant in the relationship as Victor says, His eyes were fixed on me. His jaws opened, and he muttered some inarticulate sounds, while a grin wrinkled his cheeks (Shelley 59). In the normal human realm this situation would be met with a dozen tear filled eyes seeking to hold and coddle the creation. Unfortunately for the Monster, no such treatment is offered by Victor. Frankenstein leaves the Monster to fend for himself. The horrible consequences of this lack of nurturing follow with intensity and frequency. This is proven by the rapidly building sense of confusion and loneliness within the monster. Feelings which are only multiplied by society s general rejection of him. • 14. Climatic Control Of Antarctic Sea Ice Essay What are the Climatic Controls on Changes in Antarctic Sea Ice? Abstract Unlike Arctic sea ice, which is currently decreasing at a rate which may make it seasonally ice free before the end of the 21st century (Körper et al., 2013), Antarctic sea ice (ASI) is experiencing an overall steady increase, albeit with strong regional variations (Zwally et al., 2002). Here is outlined the main climatic processes and factors which cause and control changes in ASI, studied using both climate modelling (Körper et al., 2013; Li et al., 2013; Vancoppenolle et al., 2009) and direct observations (Jacobs and Cosimo, 1997; Parkinson and Cavalieri, 2012). In general, there seems to be a large combination of factors which are causing the regional variations and overall increase in ASI, many of which are interlinked (Kwok and Cosimo, 2002; Stammerjohn et al., 2008; Yuan and Li, 2008). This report also highlights how climate models need to be tested against real life observations to ensure accurate predictions for the future (Goosse et al., 2009; Maksym et al., 2012; Vancoppenolle et al., 2009), which are important in the face of growing concern over climate change and sea level rise, in which ASI may play a huge part (Körper et al., 2013). In sum, I will discuss the argument that David Brooks portrays and explain why I agree with it. The gods played a large role in the Iliad. The gods were always quarreling with each other. Each god picked a side for whom they wanted to win the war between the Greeks and Trojans. Zeus moved back and forth between sides, depending on what the other gods convinced him of. There was a section between books 12 and 16 which said that Hera seduced Zeus to divert his attention from the Greek s success. But Zeus awoke and helped the Trojans advance on the Greeks. This nagging and fighting between gods occurs throughout the entire war. Each god wants to get what they want. This is turn causes the mortals to do the same. The actual warriors fought for their own reasons. They did not fight for their gods, but for themselves. They fought for honor, glory, praise, and riches. Hector, the king of Priam and main Trojan warrior, said he would much rather die in battle than escape to safety. Why is this? He did not want to be shamed. It was a much more honorable thing to die fighting than to run off and live with your family. This was the case for every soldier in these battles. Everyone wanted honor and glory and praise for themselves. They did not care about anyone else. They fought each other without mercy just so they could be the best. These powerful warriors were not commanded by anyone to go out and fight one another. They did it because they wanted honor and glory from others. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The reader is doubtful at first that this boy is old enough to be thinking about this, but as the stanza carries on they begin to realize he has a point. Collins reminds the reader of possible memories they have and proves that what this child is feeling is valid. The boy goes on to proclaim, It is time to say goodbye to my imaginary friends, time to turn the first big number. Collins suggests that an active and free roaming imagination must be let go as one grows older. Again he targets the readers past experiences and reminds them that growing up can be a really sad thing. The reader is also reminded of the fun childhood they lost. Be sure to contact the state s income tax agency where you plan to file your election form. Ask about the tax requirements and if they recognize elections of other entities (such as the S Corp). Advantages of an LLC: Limited Liability. Members are protected from personal liability for business decisions or actions of the LLC. This means that if the LLC incurs debt or is sued, members personal assets are usually exempt. This is similar to the liability protections afforded to shareholders of a corporation. Keep in mind that limited liability means limited liability members are not necessarily shielded from wrongful acts, including those of their employees. Less Recordkeeping. An LLC s operational ease is one of its greatest advantages. Compared to an S Corporation, there is less registration paperwork and there are smaller start up costs. Sharing of Profits. There are fewer restrictions on profit sharing within an LLC, as members distribute profits as they see fit. Members might contribute different proportions of capital and sweat equity. Consequently, it s up to the members themselves to decide who has earned what percentage of the profits or losses. Disadvantages of an LLC: Limited Life. • 26. Marginalization Of Women In Persepolis In the graphic novel, Persepolis, Marjane Satrapi creates a visual representation of what life was like in Iran, being a girl growing up there during the Islamic Revolution. Transitioning from a child to an adult, Marjane comes to many realizations about her life. She sees how women are marginalized and looked down upon by people, especially Islamic men. Growing up in a communist household, she has insight on how people were silenced by the government for not following Islam. Throughout this book, one can see that the marginalization of women is a clear theme. This has a lot to do with the time and place this book is set in, which is in Tehran Iran, during the Islamic Revolution. Marjane recalls how much this revolution impacted her life. Before the revolution she was free to be an unmolded child, running around, wearing what she wanted, playing with her friends; but once the revolution began, things started to change. Women and girls had to start wearing hijabs, bilingual schools were shut down, and boys and girls were separated. Women were told they were sluts if they weren t wearing their hijab. This happens to Marjane s mother when she was walking down the street without a hijab on and confronted by two men, who assaulted her and said she Should be pushed up against a wall and fucked. And then thrown in the garbage (74). A similar instance occurred to Marjane when she was walking to the store. A Muslim woman who was assigned to arrest other women who were improperly veiled, came up to Marjane and told her, Lower your scarf, you little whore! (133). Satrapi uses the constant mention of clothing and hijabs to symbolize how women were treated in general during the revolution in Iran. Another constant theme one can see throughout this book, is the silencing and oppression of non Islamic people, especially communists. Marjane s parents were communists, so she witnessed first hand what it was like to be in a communist family growing up during the Islamic Revolution. Ernest Hemingway wrote two short stories that examine this idea of life and death through the use of a variety of different symbols. In both Indian Camp and The Killers , Hemingway examines these ideas by putting forth a character named Nick Adams. Nick Adams develops as a character throughout these stories ultimately learning lessons about life and death that will better his understanding of the world. Nick goes from having an imperfect immature understanding of death in the Indian Camp to a more mature and grown up understanding in The Killers . In Indian Camp , Nick believes that the only way one will die is if they kill themselves. Nicks father also brings Nick to the Indian Camp where his father will deliver a baby. Nicks father wants Nick to watch the birth and learn the importance of life, but instead the procedure takes a turn for the worst and Nick becomes disturbed by what he sees. In The Killers , Nicks understanding of death becomes more understood when he notices how Ole Anderson has given up on life and has ultimately taught Nick the lesson that death is inevitable. In its earliest incarnation, the airline was an international carrier which began by offering service from London to Paris. Operations changed over the years as the company was nationalized in 1939 and then re privatized in the 1980 s, but the focus remained international flights (British Airways, 2012). The individual may be slightly ill but after the fight off the disease the person will be entirely immune to the disease. In 1776 Edward Jenner, a british scientist had a revelation. He noticed Cowpox, which is similar to Smallpox but not as deadly, protected the dairy maids from Smallpox if they contracted the disease from their cows. Cow Pox caused small blisters to form, and a low grade fever but nothing worse. The Cowpox virus was close enough in structure to Smallpox that the antibodies made by the infected person successfully defended against the 25 75% lethal Smallpox virus. Jenner hit upon the idea of breaking open a Cowpox blister on a cow and scratching the liquid inside into the arm of a person. He found that this, indeed did give the person Cowpox. Now all he had to do was to place the person next to someone with Smallpox and see if his theory was correct, were they immune. I noticed that Jenner didn t use himself to test this theory, but an eight year old boy named James Phippsthankfully he was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It could be feelings, situations, or even experiences. Writers such as George Orwell and Sylvia Plath influenced the world with their writing. As a major writer in the Blitz era, Elizabeth Bowen wrote her experiences in the war. Using the atmosphere and the surroundings as a source of her writing, Elizabeth created many different novels and short stories that played on the emotions of the people. One major short story, The Demon Lover, displayed the Blitz as a tool for devastation. Everywhere you look, and go there is usually some sort of advertising present. Whether watching TV, walking around a mall, or reading a magazine, people are bombarded with advertising. So it brings into question, what kind of role should advertising have, and what kind of ethics should merchants of products go by. There are many different opinions on the ethics merchants should have. Another notion that Machan brings up is the idea of how some from an altruistic sense (concern for well being and welfare of others) would feel about the ethics of advertising/merchants role. Of course those from an altruistic sense would favor the tell all stance, and see Suppressio Veri as being wrong, As Machan says, If we are to live solely to do good for others, then when we have reason to believe that telling the whole truth will promote others well being, we morally ought to tell the whole truth to the person. So when a merchant has reason to believe that telling his customers about lover prices elsewhere (for goods which he sells at higher price) will benefit his customer, he ought morally to do so. This basis, not only an opposition to Suppressio Veri but also in part to the merchant ethic and Caveat Emptor, I see as having defaults. Machan mentions, as the theory of intuitionism state s, One should not promote one s weaknesses, one should not volunteer information detrimental to one s prospects. And then goes on to give a good example of why he believes the altruistic way fails, I doubt anyone would seriously advise job seeking philosophers to list their CVs rejected articles and denied promotions that would be counterintuitive . For centuries societies have used death as the ultimate penalty for crime. In the 1960 s, the court ruled against the death penalty as a cruel and unusual punishment , which was forbidden by the eighth amendment of the Constitution. By the 1990 s the death penalty was again in wide use supported by the court and Congress, which continually expanded by legislation the crimes for which death would be an acceptable penalty. These circumstances included air craft highjacking; treason; murder for hire; murder of a judicial officer, policeman, or fireman in line of duty; and murder by a person with a previous record of violent crime. This decision made it clear that the justices did not consider the death penalty per say to be cruel and unusual punishment in the sense intended by the constitution. (Davis, 196 197). The justices reaffirmed what an unbiased historical and legal analysis would reveal every time that our forefathers were not against Capitol Punishment but against the misapplication of punishment bringing about injustice. Philosophically speaking there is a strange twist in logic to call Capitol Punishment inhuman or cruel. The inhumanity and cruelty was the crime that called for capitol consequences. The inhuman act was performed by the criminal in murder not on the criminal through capitol punishment. It can be argued that if one were to mandate a life sentence for a murderer that it is cruel and inhumane to expose inmates, guards and counselors to a volatile criminal. King Lear Vs A Thousand Acres Analysis King Lear vs A Thousand Acres While it may appear that Jane Smiley s A Thousand Acres is nothing but a modernized interpretation of Shakespeare s King Lear, one can see that below the surface these two tales are anything but alike. Through Smiley s characters Larry, Caroline, Ginny and Rose, it is easy to conclude that they contrast their parallels, Lear, Cordelia, Goneril and Rose, greatly from Shakespeare s play. Among the multiple themes that make this conclusion possible, the most prominent are the contrasting themes of relationships, outcomes, character development and motivations. At first, Shakespeare portrays King Lear as an arrogant man whose only concern is himself; Lear has no problem relishing in his title and power as ruler, but has trouble carrying out the responsibilities of a king and doing good for his people. ...
