Essay on Compromise of 1877
Compromise of 1877 African Americans may sometimes wonder at the contradictory facts about
their history presented in many standard history texts. These texts state that blacks were given the
right to vote in 1870, yet the same texts will acknowledge that this right did not really exist for
African Americans until the Civil RightsMovement of the 1960s.
Similarly, the first public accommodation law was passed in 1875, but history shows that it took
91 years before it was acknowledged and African Americans were allowed to the full benefits of
citizenship.1

By statute, African Americans received the basic civil rights to make and enforce contracts; to
acquire, hold, and dispose of property; and to equal applications of criminal laws in 1866. These
rights were constitutionalized in 1868. African Americans did not acquire the right to vote till 1870.7
There was enormous resistance from forces in the South throughout these years, these reforms were
not easily instituted; yet, the movement toward real equality ended in 1870. In that year, Senator
Charles Sumner of Massachusetts introduced a bill which, had it been passed unchanged, would
have abolished racial discrimination and segregation in public schools, cemeteries,
railroads...inns..and the exclusion of citizens from jury service on the basis of race. Unfortunately,
this final triumph of the Reconstruction met with defeat.8
This was because the country, as a whole, not just the South, was tired of the ongoing crusade for
civil rights. A representative from Delaware, on the floor of the Senate, even questioned if the
Fourteenth Amendment had any illegal or binding force in law. This same representative then made

Once applied, the polish is exposed to the air and the solvent evaporates, turning the liquid nail
polish hard. Nail polish creates a hard protection for the nail. This helps prevent against
chipping, and breaking. The history of nail polish started in the 17th century when portraits with
shiny nails started appearing (para.1, 2015). Since then, nail polish has become more unique,
and creative. Nail polish was created in the 1920 s. The creation of nail polish was quite simple,
and very popular in the 1920 s. In the article The history of Nail Polish, the author says, The
1920 s started super fashionable and with the advent of World War 1 a more natural looks
became prominent as the war dismantled frivolous industries and created jobs for women (2015).
As the women became more independent, they started to do the things that made them unique
from the rest, this was one of them. Also, in the article The history of Nail polish, the author
stated, In the 1920 s, glossy car paint was created, which gave one bright lady the fab idea of
applying it to nails (2015). This eventually turned into a very popular accessory today. This

Service Dogs Research Paper
A Snapshot of Canines at Work Dogs dramatically impact the lives of people in numerous
aspects. Not only do they work for humans tirelessly, but they do it with a smile on their face and
a wag in their tail, and they are non judgmental towards people with disabilities. People utilized the
help and companionship dogs provided even hundreds of years ago. However, many people see
dogs as futile, considering training, money, time, and work that is put into owning a dog, let alone
having it specifically trained to do a certain job. It is also risky putting so much time and effort
into a dog, being aware that they are very capable of making mistakes just as humans are. Also,
many people do not know the depth of the work that dogs provide, or... Show more content on

Some disabled people feel very disconnected from normal people, but a service dog helps them
overcome that, and also become more independent. Service dogs seem to positively influence
socialization and community participation in a variety of environments. Two studies observed
partnerships in natural environments (Eddy et al., 1988; Mader et al., 1989) and reported that
community members smiled and conversed with children and adults with service dogs more
than children and adults without service dogs, and community members did not avoid the
person with a disability as much when a service dog was present (Winkle, Crowe, and Hendrix
57). Service dogs allow disabled people to do more things on their own, with the help of the dog,
and feel like they do not have to rely on other people to help them as much. In addition, when a
disabled person has a service dog, they have a companion that is by their side throughout the
day, boosting their confidence. Presnall writes: Jennifer had been diagnosed with multiple
sclerosis at the age of sixteen... I felt kind of repulsive and unlovable in that wheelchair,
[Jennifer] says. But I knew a service dog would look at me and just think I was cool (8). More
evidence of this is proven with the bond between David, a man who had both of his legs
amputated above his knees, and his dog Inca. Inca s arrival has made a huge difference to David s
life, both emotionally and physically (Bidder 48). Thus, service dogs impact their

Oprah Winfrey s Influence On Law Enforcement And Schools...
Real integrity is doing the right thing, knowing that nobody s going to know whether you did it or
not. Oprah Winfrey. Being born into an abusive family to a teen mother may hold some people
from becoming successful, but not Oprah Winfrey. Winfrey uses her rocky past to motivate her to
help others, and provide victims of sexual abuse with a safe haven. Winfrey has made an impact on
America. The former pageant queen and talk showhost helped establish the National Sex Offender
Registry which made an impact on law enforcement and schools across the country. Winfrey also
changed the face of talk shows by giving back to the community and focusing on bigger problems,
not just celebrities and gossip. To better understand how Oprah Winfreyis heroic one must explore
her past, her accomplishments, and how her kind heart has helped raise money for many charities.
Oprah Winfrey s past helped shape her into the influential person she is presently. According to
achievement.org, the official website of a museum of living history in Washington D.C., Winfrey
was born on January 29, 1954 in Kosciusko, Mississippi to mother, Vernita Lee and father Vernon
Winfrey. Vernita was just a teenager when Oprah Winfrey was born. Winfrey was sexually abused
by several of her mother s friends and relatives while her mother was away working. The abuse

Does Janie Should Be Diagnosed As Asperger s Syndrome Essay
Case Study
According to the extensive amount of information provided in this case study about 6 year old
Janie, I have come to the conclusion that Janie should be diagnosed as having a mild form of
Autistic Spectrum Disorder formerly known as Asperger s syndrome. Under the Autistic
Spectrum Disorder Asperger s syndrome is one of four pervasive developmental disorders (PDD)
that all fall under the Autistic spectrum. (Dombeck, 2008).ASD is a neural development disorder
that is rarely diagnosed before the age of three (Roddick, 2014).ASD causes impairments in social
skills and communication in different levels (Roddick, 2014).Those with ASD that are able to
function at a normal level usually fall towards the end of the autism spectrum near the disorder
known as a milder form of autism, Asperger s. Janie displays a number of symptoms that are
specifically common to ASD. One of the main symptoms being that Janie shows delays in motor
developments such as walking and toilet training, however she has shown no language deficits or
cognitive problems so far. This is extremely common in children with ASD (Asperger s
syndrome). They often take longer to reach physical developmental milestones, but children with
this syndrome usually are of average intelligence or in some cases, above intelligence. (Silberman,
2001).This discovery of cases with children having normal or above average IQ s led to the phrase
that Asperger s is basically a high functioning form of autism, because

The War on Drugs and U.S. Foreign Policy Essay
Introduction
The War on Drugs has been a common phrase in the United States for many decades. What
exactly does this mean and how does it shape U.S. foreign policy? The War on Drugs can be
defined as the systematic and aggressive policy that is determined to undermine and stop the flow
of illegal drugs into the United States. This policy is backed by several U.S. institutions including
the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Drug Enforcement
Administration (DEA), U.S. Army, U.S. Coast Guard, and U.S. Customs. Also, included in this list
are the numerous local law enforcement agencies across the country.

This refers to the elimination of drug crops while they are still being grown. The U.S. has used
this policy in several South American countries as a means to limit drug trafficking before it has a
chance to develop. However, significantly reducing crops has not always led to decreasing drug
trafficking. Reduction of drug crops in one country may lead to increased production in another.
This is likely to happen when one country becomes the focus of an eradication effort, while another
country can increase its production to fill in the void. If there is one thing that the world market
can produce, it is its high demand of illegal drugs. The Drug Policy Alliance gives cites a specific
instance verifying the problems that can be associated with eradication procedures. During the
mid 1990s, eradication efforts in Bolivia and Peru created incentives to grow coca in Columbia.
While Peru experienced a 66% reduction in coca cultivation and Bolivia experienced a 53%
reduction, coca cultivation in Columbia doubled. In addition, more potent strains of coca have
been developed, leading to higher yielding coca crops. This example shows the adverse effects of
the policy of eradication. Main Cocaine Producing Countries
Finally, the last way that the United States enforces is foreign policy on drugs is legislative
reform. Legislative reform entails the laws passed to combat drug trafficking. The laws that will
be looked at are not local laws such

My Career Goals
Success, failures, experiences, trials, and tribulations usually shape up the life and career of a
person. I am no exception to this idea. My experiences have taught me lessons. My mistakes have
helped me to grow. My successes have humbled me. My fear of the unknown has helped me face

I hail from a city called Chennai from the South of India and I grew up in a family rich in
traditions and orthodoxy. An age long tradition in India dictates children to decide on a career

Experiencing such paranoia about losing a job and also completing hard manual labor has

would push him to advise Sammy to keep his job because Sammy s job at the A P was secure

The Holocaust And The Holocaust
The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum states, The denial or distortion of history is an
assault on the truth and understanding. Holocaust denial is the act of denying the genocide of Jews
and other groups in the Holocaust during World War II. Common denial and distortions includes
that the death of 6 million Jewish people never transpired, that the deaths was an enormous
exaggeration, that the diary of Anne Frank is a forgery, and that the results of deaths in the
concentration camps were due to starvation or diseases. Often the denials is about Nazi Germanys
aim to deporting Jews from the Reich; however, not including the extermination of Jews. Their
claims includes the nonuse of extermination camps and gas chambers to mass murder Jews, or in
fact, ceased to ever exist. By denying the truth about the Holocaust, it adds insult to those who
suffered involuntarily by taking away their life robbing Jewish people and victims alike of their
past and their future. Remembrance and truths about the past affects how the society grows and
change because we become more understanding. When deniers intentionally deny or distort the
truths, it takes the very fact about the victim s life away, and ultimately we do not learn. Despite the
murder of millions of Jews and other victims impending evidences on the Holocaust, former Nazis

Lincoln And The Suspension Of Habeas Corpus
Raymond Mora
Political Science 433
Professor Soper
10 October 2017
Lincoln and the Suspension of the Writ of Habeas Corpus Throughout American history, the writ
of habeas Corpus has been the basis of the legal system of the United States, meant to preserve
civil freedoms. Habeas corpus established a constitutional check on any dictatorial power that tried
to present itself. It allowed any individual that was arrested to stand in front of the court to
challenge whether they were being imprisoned according to the law of the land, ensuring their civil
liberties weren t threatened; however, only in times when the stability of a country was threatened
could it be temporarily suspended. President Lincoln came into office in 1861 and by the ... Show

The power was explicitly given to the Legislative branch of the government since it was
mentioned in Article I; however, the argument can be made that this was an exigency that was
granted for a particular emergency, in this case an insurrection. Even knowing that he had a basis
to take action on his own, he waited for Congress to make the final decision and grant him the
privilege to not overstep any boundary. When Congress made a decision it was imposed upon the
President for the very reason that the courts and the marshals are too weak to perform it (the
suspension of the Writ of Habeas Corpus) (Bates 295). President Lincoln was just upholding and
living up to the oath that he will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States and
will...preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States. When all else fails the
President is the Guardian of the Constitution and must not be denied due to believing that a power
can be easily abused, when every law is subject to good and bad, it s the chances that must be taken
(Bates 295). The circumstances all pointed to the the executive branch, the president, to step in and
enact the suspension of the Writ of Habeas Corpus indicating that the power, although given only to
the legislative, it seems that the framers knew that when the time came congress would not be able
to perform such actions. The only grounds that indicated that the president wasn t automatically

The Realism Lens Of George W. Bush Essay
There are three lenses you can look through for the realism lens. Love, Hate, and fear. It is
possible to take former president George W. Bush reaction to 9/11 and look at them through the
love and fear lens. Showing how Former President George W. Bush could have looked at the
crisis as a realist channeling love the people have for the nation to come up with a solution, as
well as fear for future attacks to prevent this from happening and tell the nation what it needs to
do as a whole to respond to terrorist all over the world. Realism is seeing the problem as it is and
dealing with it accordingly. Many people in political power tend to see problems through a realistic
lens. This is because in a democracy you are elected into power by the people, so a politician needs
the people to love him. However, who loves you today may not love you tomorrow so, a
politician must always be a people pleaser . While a politician in a communist power uses fear
which is the best for ruling because they will not disobey you. How fear can lead to hate which
is the worst way to rule because people will plot against you and impede everything you try to
accomplish. With realism, the end justifies the means however if you are ruling with love you
cannot always do what is necessary because the people may not approve of it. If you rule with fear
you will get more done because no one would stand in your way because they are afraid of you
which is why this is the best way to rule. However, if

Summary Of Django Unchained
An auteur is a director that influences their films so that they can be considered as an author.
Quentin Tarantino is considered an author through his unique directorial film style, examples of
Tarantino s directorial film style are; his use of camera work especially with extreme close ups,
bloody violence, and long drawn out scenes. We have studied Quentin Tarantinos 2012 film Django
Unchained, as well as Tarantino s first box office movie Reservoir Dogsto analyse.
Quentin Tarantino uses camera work in both Django Unchained and Reservoir Dogs to display
character emotion. From what I had analysed I noticed that Tarantino s use of close up and mid
shots help the audience to examine the character s facial expression, from when Calvin Candie is
showing them the skull of an African, you can really see the pity in Dr. King Schultz s eyes and
the anger in Django s face, from Reservoir Dogs cafe scene, you can see each individual character
s facial expression, representing their personalities.
A scene in Django Unchained , that Tarantino applies great camera work is during the skull
examination scene , the scene featured Dr. King Schultz, Django, Calvin Candie, Stephen, and
Broomhilda. The scene opens up with a mid shot on Calvin Candie presenting to them an African
skull, the camera then shifts back and forth to Dr. King Schultz and Django. The camera provides
us with close up shots of both Dr. King Schultz and Django, presenting to us their emotions.

the late 1800 s and early 1900 s. Almost immediately after graduating from Michigan Medical

a pharmacy which a dying man and his worried wife owned. Dr. Holmes preyed on the wife s

Holmes persuaded the wife that he was lifting a huge responsibility off of her shoulders so that
she could be by her husband s side while he slowly passed away. When the husband finally died,
the wife mysteriously disappeared from Chicago and the original name of the pharmacy and the

Causes Of The French Revolution
The French Revolution was a radical social and political upheaval in France that took place from
1789 until 1799. It was partially carried forward by Napoleon Bonaparte when he later became the
Emperor of France. This period in history has major historical forces that had great influence on not
only the lives during that period, but also the modern world. Issues about citizenship, sovereignty,
and slavery were raised by the French Revolution. These debates soon enhanced modern political
Ideologies. Ideologies of liberalism, conservatism, and nationalism were beginning to appear and
influence all aspects of European life after the French Revolution.
The French Revolution was a historical period of time when the people of France overthrew the
monarchy and took control of the government. The uprising of political, social, and economic
conflicts were the primary causes of the French Revolution. This lead to the bringing of new ideas
and politics to Europe and many other countries. Early 19th century politics were known as
ideologies. These ideologies competed with other views of how the world should be. They were
based on human reason and the French Revolution was full of enlightened people with rational
thoughts. Liberalism, conservatism, and nationalism became sources of authority and importance,
still continuing to affect society today.
Liberalism was a product of enlightenment thinking, and held that human progress was inevitable.

Abstract Art And Its Effects On Educating Students And...
Abstract art is defined as art that does not attempt to represent external reality, but seeks to achieve
its effect using shapes, forms, colors, and textures.
Due to this, it has a higher potential for variation within color schemes and materials. Said potential
makes art not only valuable but ultimately unique no matter what piece you look at. By addressing
this in conjunction with obtaining Teapot by Waldemar Kolbusz, DePauw University would be
showing how much it prides itself on educating its students and administration through the
implementation of art.
Waldemar Kolbusz, thoughtfully dubbed Design Aficionado by his peers and admirers, identifies
as an Australian, mostly self taught artist born in 1969. While he went through formal schooling
and training as an accountant, he began his full time career as an artist in 2000 at thirty one years
old. By using oil, wax, and stained canvases, he focuses mainly in abstract paintings in solo and
group exhibits that show emphasis on color and shape. Within these subcategories, Kolbusz deems
his work as expressionistic and works to show contrast within hue and the movement within shape
to evoke emotion and reactions from viewers. While his pieces remain defined as abstract, he
focuses on lifelike shapes and movements within his paintings by creating intense, organic shapes.
Throughout the years of his experience, Kolbusz has found that by using wax in conjunction with
the oil paints, he has created a style within abstract

Cruel Intentions. Although the film is intended to be a dark comedy and a teenage version of
Dangerous Liaisons, Cruel Intentions is a mature and often shocking look at a potential realistic
situation played up as a fantasy tale that offers a sickening example of the moral decay present in
our society. Morals seem to change from generation to generation, and as time goes on it seems
that at one time what was disgusting and immoral in our society is now second nature and pure
entertainment for today s generation. An example of this might be to take the idea of a show

The opening scene sets the immoral tone for the entire movie when Sebastian humiliates his

One expert has gone as far to say that 98% of the Euphrates starts in Turkey (Kaya). That leaves

Instead of taxis, Wildwood has trolleys that take you to and from the boardwalk. Atlantis and
Wildwood are both very different and at the same time they are similar. Similarly, they both are
vacation places that attract many visitors and foreigners. Both also have a lot of activities for all
ages and each has numerous water activities. People go to both of these resorts to vacation and
enjoy the beach and water activities. While the Atlantic Ocean surrounds both Atlantis and
Wildwood, the color of the water is completely different and its temperature is also different. The
ocean water in Atlantis is so clear that I can see to the bottom of the ocean, but the water in
Wildwood is darker and not as clear to allow me to see to the bottom. It s easy to figure out why
people vacation at beach resorts. These places give people on vacation a lot of fun activities to
do and let people relax if they want to. There are a lot of fun memories made at beach resorts and
it doesn t matter if they are in the Bahamas or in New Jersey. Summer vacations always have

Summary Of Murnau s The Last Laugh
Friedrich Willhelm (F.W.) Murnau s The Last Laugh (1924) holds a special place within silent
film (Bordwell 2016). It is the film that made Murnau popular with American audiences, and in
turn, its success lead him to move to Hollywood and eventually make masterpieces (not to say that
The Last Laugh itself isn t a masterpiece), such as Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans (1927). Both
films evoke the surreality of life, but unlike the celebratory SunriseВё The Last Laughlaments life s
predestined nature. Murnau dramatizes this lamentation through the contrast of the real with the
fanciful and through his use of doors.
From the first shot, The Last Laugh manages to be both hyper realistic and utterly whimsical. We
are whisked down the elevator and out the constantly revolving door into a city, that while
appearing to be real at first, is just a painted backdrop. But Murnau spares no expense to fool the
audience; he even has figures moving inside the painted towers, which to the untrained eye
cause the towers to seem real. Alas, the towers are fake, but these moving figures serve a larger
purpose than just to be a tool to suspend the audience s belief. They add to the busy aesthetic of
the The Last Laugh. The world Murnau has created is a hectic one where One day you are
preeminent, respected by all, as the opening title announces, and the next you are a nobody, and
before you know it, life has passed you by. This is the case for our unnamed protagonist (Emil
Jannings) who is now

Ivan Niven s Proof Of Pi Being Irrational
Ivan Niven s Proof of Pi Being Irrational The proof of pi being irrational can be done by
contradiction. To do this, Niven first assumed that ПЂ =a / b, for relatively prime integers, a and b.
He then created a polynomial function of power 2n that depends on the constant a and b. Next,
define the polynomial for a constant integern, which Ivan Niven used in his proof:
This function f(x) has properties that are required in proving that pi is irrational. One property is
that when f(x) =0; then f(x) = f(ПЂ x) : For the polynomial n!f(x) = xn(a bx)n, the term (a bx)n can
be expanded into a new polynomial with integer coefficients ranging from power 0 to n using the
binomial theorem. Each of these terms get multiplied by the term xn. Thus, ... Show more content

Lastly, Niven showed how the integral of f(x) sin(x) cannot always be an integer for all n values.
Since sin(x) is always bounded between 0 and 1 when x is bounded between 0 and ПЂ, it can be
stated that f(x) sin(x) f(x). Niven used what he has stated before: f(x) = xn(a bx)n/n!, and showed
how that (a bx) a when x is bounded between 0 and ПЂ. From this Niven stated that must be a
smaller value than (a)n. Similarly, when x is bounded between 0 and ПЂ, the term xn must be
between 0 and ПЂn. Niven took all of these properties and functions and stated

To Kill A Mockingbird Chapter 5 Analysis
I chose the vocabulary words emboldened (courage), and apprehension (anxiety or fear
something bad or unpleasant will happen). The reason they apply to comprehending chapter 5
and the book is because courage is a major characteristic of the underdog, and without it they
become the average person who is unable to overcome disadvantages exceedingly well. In
particular courage was a key aspect in the way Freirich approached the children with leukemia. In
contrast, apprehension is a quality that the underdog is not familiar with, alternatively it is a trait
of a person who is not willing to take risks, chances, think outside of the box, or oppose the norm .
Hence, the difference between these two qualities is a major factor when considering the... Show

In addition, Gladwell painted a good picture of the sorrow felt due to the severity of the affects on
the children from drugs, procedures, and imminent death more often than not. Gladwell gave
extensive detail to drive the point home of how audacious it was not to think outside of the box or
form an unconvential strategy to help save these childrens lives. In order to really understand the
general atmosphere, which appeared to be morgue like; the attitudes of the doctors who worked on
that ward issuing death sentences providing no hope to their patients needed to be made crystal
clear. Otherwise, it would be difficult for your average person who has empathy to understand some
of Freirichs approaches as they were viewed as haineous and unempathetic. Even though Freirich
did not possess a great amount of bedside manner, he did have empathy for the continued torture
that the children were experiencing; relative to his childhood. Freirich could empathize because he
also had a tormented period of life, his ability to emotionally express this was void. In essence the
lack of affection as a child affected his genteel nature in adulthood. Freirich is able to handle these
factors in the Cancer ward because he immediately began attempting to conform to the heinous
conditions by finding a resolution or way to improve the statistics. The difference in Freirich and
your average person is his resilience in opposing the giants in these circumstances despite the
consequences. Once again similar to the underdog strategies used in previous chapters such as
Randadive and Boeis; different unique strategies are utilized to overcome disadvantages attaining

opposite of that would be another show on MTV called Jersey Shore, which is an example of a

While watching the two shows there are many differences, however one major thing that stood
out to me while I was watching was the differences of food and quantity. Within The Hills there
is almost never times where we see the cast members eating a meal, if we do see them at a
restaurant they are drinking but never eating. In the rare few times that we do see food at the
table we hardly ever see them eat, and the food that is placed in front of them are small portions
of salads or other healthy substances of food. There is differences between in the food that the
males of the show eat and the females eat, again on the rare times that food is involved the
women are seen to have the salads where the men are seen to have meat substance of food,
however, both still falling on the relatively small size portions of food. Women s relationship
with food is always different then men s because women are seen to need less food, and seen to
need to diet. Men need more food not only because they are seen as bigger but also because in
order from them to diet/ gain muscle they need to eat lots of protein for working out. Women are
also seduced into losing weight also with implications that come with it through the media we have.

weight, getting fit, and looking like there favourite celebrity. Admittedly, women are continually

appear on a cow, we could tell Chagall s way to reinforce his objection to the realistic colors. The

was the Portrait of Madame de Pompadour. The second I witnessed the detail and extravagance
of the painting, I fell in love with it. Luckily at the time I was living in Bavaria, coincidentally
also the current home of said painting. When I went to see it, it was much larger in person than I
could have ever envisioned and much more vibrant in color and detail than I could have ever
imagined. Over the years I have seen many more paintings, I have to yet be overwhelmed the way
I was when I first saw the Portrait of Madame de Pompadour. French artist François Boucher
painted the legendary Portrait of Madame de Pompadour in 1756. He utilized oil on canvas to
paint the 201 Г— 157 cm (79.1 Г— 61.8 in) portrait of the chief mistress to Louis XV, Jeanne
Antoinette Poisson aka. The Marquise de Pompadour (also referred to as Madame de Pompadour).
Boucher, who lived from 1703 70, was the archetypal painter of the French rococo, a style that
subordinated subject matter to a lacy, frothy sensuality in which bodies, clothes, clouds, waves and
forests become not themselves but images of desire, metaphors for titillation. Among the most
prolific of his generation, he worked in virtually every medium and every

Robert Nozick s Anarchy, State, And Utopia
In Anarchy, State, and Utopia Robert Nozick uses a famous example of Wilt Chamberlain getting
rich by playing basketball to show how patterned distribution is destroyed by individual transfers of
goods and money. He argues that we should have a free economy in which we each have control
over our holdings without interference from a governmentor anyone else. To argue this he shows
that the alternative to this free economy, patterning our distribution of resources, is unjust because
it causes interference in people s lives.
In this paper I will pose three arguments that this example is faulty because it is oversimplified. I
will argue that it overlooks important moral concerns, specifically reward. I will argue that it makes
a faulty assumption ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People pay happily to see him play and exchange their money for his time. Their money is assumed
to be justly earned, and is justly given since the transfer is voluntary. Because of his popularity
Chamberlain earns more than the other basketball players and more than the average citizen.
Nothing is evenly distributed anymore because he has more of it than others do. The example
shows how free exchange inevitably upsets patterns of distribution. If that free exchange follows
the rules of just transfer then it is just to upset the pattern and presumably unjust to reinstitute

Let s Talk About Sex.....Preference in Non Western Cultures
Introduction
Each day, over one hundred and eighteen million babies are born worldwide. According to the
biological sex binary male and female, every infant has the possibility of being born with sex
chromosomes female (XX) and male (XY), which causes differences in their biological
anatomies. There are also individuals with disorders of sex development or more commonly
referred to as being intersex. Intersex is an umbrella term for people whose sexual or reproductive
anatomies, sex hormones, or sex chromosomes just do not fall neatly into the definitions of male
and female. Examples of this disorder could include ambiguous genitalia, androgen sensitivity, or
abnormalities with how the rest of the body responds to sex hormones. The majority of cultures
around the globe give merit to and recognize the differences in biological sex (male/female binary),
what roles they have played in their traditions/histories, and their current position in framing politics
or societal structures. Some Non Western countries such as China, India, Taiwan, and Pakistan,
include cultures that exhibit a strong sex preference, or more specifically son preference. More
than simply preferring the births of sons to daughters, son preference develops from instances of
gender inequality where outside parties often question basic human rights. Non Western

Gender Reflection
The concept of gender is broad but identifying as a female, it has impacted my life in many ways,
such as introducing me to the concept of being a feminist. I would not be the individual I am today
without that. Over time, my gender has also made me a more confident person and given me the
strength to take pride in being a woman: a woman studying science, a woman unafraid to have a
voice, a strong woman. I have become more educated and aware of societal concepts, both lies
and truths and a big part of that was due to friends I made who introduced me to a new mindset
and new ways of looking at things.
Early on in my life, I distinguished the difference between gender which was, with my limited
knowledge only men and woman, due to the difference in the way we were treated. I became
familiar with the stereotypes that society flung on us women cook and clean and men do all the
labour. It was a traditional way of thinking that I grew up with and that didn t change until I was
much older, probably around the age of 13 or 14. My cousin, a brilliantly loud and passionate
woman (even at 15 years of age) introduced the term feminism to me and I truly thought she was
crazy and man hating, just like all the stereotypes led me to believe. I began to learn, though. As
time passed, I started absorbing all sorts of new information and the most important thing was
that I educated myself. I looked at gender again but from a different angle. I questioned society, I
questioned everything. Feminism opened a door to a realm that I had only begun to explore at
the time. I have both a younger brother and sister and I noticed all the pressure around them to be
certain ways, especially my brother because growing up with two older sisters taught him to be
gentle and soft spoken, unlike what a real man ought to be when he grows up. I realized how toxic
masculinity could be and I wanted to be a good example to my siblings and taught myself more on
the subject. I taught myself the ways that gender was harmful, including the notion that we all had
to fit a binary.
Growing up, everyone I knew was either male or female . When I became a part of a big
community on certain social medias (tumblr, Instagram) I started making friends who

Mergers and Acquisitions
Mergers and Acquisitions In modern business environments, there are increasing dynamics
encouraging firms to utilize mergers and acquisitions to resolve resource. In dynamic business
environments, the value of existing resources is subject to erosion, in some instances fast
erosion. Consequently, firms continuously respond to changing environmental conditions by
upgrading their resources and capabilities via renewal, acquisition, redeployment, and
recombination. Mergers and acquisitions provide firms with a practical tool to close their
resource gaps, allowing for a much faster reconfiguration of the product mix toward high profit
products than, for example, internal development (Eschen and Bresser, 2005). The need for
corporate firms to achieve competitive advantage in a highly competitive global environment
has necessitated the implementation of innovative strategies, one of them being mergers and
acquisitions (Rizvi, 2010). Mergers and acquisitions have become an increasingly popular
strategy for achieving corporate growth and diversification, with the M A activity in the 1990 s
smashing all existing records, both in terms of the number of transactions and the size of the
deals. The worldwide value of M A increased from $462 billion in 1990 to over $3.5 trillion in
2000. Even though this unparalleled wave of M A drop in the early 2000 s as the global economy
cooled off and slid into recession, the M A volume worldwide remains at a much higher level than
existed in

Landscape Of The Venture Capital Industry
1. Introduction 1.1. Landscape of the venture capital industry Venture capital (VC) refers to
financial intermediary between institutional investors and private companies, often to finance new
ventures or growth of private companies. Venture capital is a subset of the larger private equity
industry, which refers to equity investments in privately held enterprises. VCs are different from
angel investors, who are often erroneously considered the same as VC, in that VCs rely on raising
a pool of capital from limited partners (LP), and invest on their behalf as general partners (GP), via
a limited partnership that is the actual fund (VC firms often manage several funds). The limited
partnership model define certain characteristics of VC... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another important characteristic that separates VC from Angel investors and CVC is the
fundraising process. VC firms need to raise new funds periodically, which increases the pressure
to have positive periodic returns and high profile investments to assist with future fundraising
rounds. The VC industry itself is divided on the basis of the different stages of investment.
Angel investing refers to individual investors, who are often the first group of investors in a
new enterprise, who provide capital and mentorship. Angel investors invest in companies before
VC firms, who invest in the next round of fundraising, what is often dubbed as Seed Stage,
which accounts for about 2% of total VC investments (NVCA). At the Seed Stage, the portfolio
company has just been founded, and its product is still in development. (NVCA) Clearly, at such
an early stage, it is nearly impossible to make any meaningful financial projections, since the
company lacks a product to offer. The next stage in VC financing is dubbed as Series A . From
an operational standpoint, there are very few differences between Series A and Seed Stage, since
at time of a Series A fundraising, the company s product may still be in development, (NVCA) or
has just been finished to a viable level to allow for a pilot product launch, testing the market and
commercialization potential of the company. Similarly,

What Is Animal Agriculture Persuasive Essay
Did you know the average American eats 209 pounds of meat per year. Americans need to
drastically cut down on the amount of meat we eat because the animal agriculture industry is not
sustainable, livestock have created more than 500 nitrogen flooded dead zones around the world in
our oceans, and it s responsible for up to 80% of destruction done to the Amazon rain forest.
Meat production requires 18 times more land than vegetable production. For example you can

319 million people equals about 957 million acres. We ve already used this amount of acres in the

Great Leap Forward Summary
10. Diamond characterizes the Great Leap Forward as the stage in human development when
humans became seemingly more modern and more similar, biologically and behaviorally, to the
human today. This leap occurred around 50,000 years ago, the signs being standardized tools,
preserved jewelry, and the completely modern skeletons of the Cro Magnon.
11. The major human achievements that characterize the Great Leap Forward can be defined by
the first ever preserved jewelry and methodized tools made out of stone. Other major human
achievements at this time included complex weaponry that could kill from a secure distance, much
like the mechanics of the weaponry we have and still use in battle today. The most marvelous as
well as most known achievement of the Cro Magnons would have to be their artwork though, due
to its wondrous beauty in the eyes of many.
12. The technological advancement of watercraft was necessary for the colonization of New
Guinea and Australia approximately 30,000 to 40,000 years ago. ... Show more content on

Diamond proposes the theory that the disappearance of mega fauna in Australia/New Guinea was
due to human interaction. The animals of Australia and New Guinea had not yet been introduced to
humans, eliminating the chance of coevolution. They became extinct in every habitat without
exception...the giants were indeed exterminated by humans, both directly (by being killed for food)
and indirectly (as a result of fires and habitat modification caused by humans). It seems that
Diamond primarily believed that the extinction of the many mega fauna was entirely the fault of the
humans and not at all because of the animals changing habitat. Due to the fact that the mega fauna
of Australia and New Guinea were not prepared for the arrival of humans, they were successfully
hunted to the ultimate death:

Significance Of The Ghost In Hamlet
Hamlet by William Shakespeare introduces the concept of what to believe and what not to believe.
The ghost scenes in Hamlet are no doubt a dramatic aspect of the play. Whatever may have been
Shakespeare s views about ghosts, he incorporates the idea in a way that shows their significance.
The ghost scenes destroy Hamlets innocence by exposing him to the horrible crimes within his
family and the ghosts appearance confirms Hamlet s suspicion that the marriage between his uncle
and his mother had something sinister about it.
The first appearance of the ghost, the characters debate on its reality and try to figure out why it
roams. The readers are then introduced to two characters that are soldiers at the Danish castle
Elsinore, Bernado and Francisco. The men hear a noise and become nervous, calling out Who s
there? (I,i,1) Marcellus, another guard, and Horatio, a nobleman, arrive and say they don t come
in harm. Then all of a sudden a Ghost appears. The men believe it looks like the recently
deceased Hamlet, King of Denmark. Horatio tries to speak to it and asks why he has come in a
form of the old King, but the ghost doesn t answer and disappears.

instantly identifies the spirit as his father. Even though Marcellus and Horatio tried stopping
Hamlet from going after the ghost, Hamlet follows the ghost so the Ghost could explain the

Electronic Mediated Communication In Relationships
Using electronic mediated communication, such as text messages can be a great way to
communicate. However, when beginning a relationship, face to face contact can be the most
intimate way to get to know each other. When a person pours their all (everything about them
including life events) in a text message, one cannot be taken serious. You have to find common
ground. For many people, texting is a major source of relationship communication. People age 17 to
25 tend to text their romantic interests more than older individuals do, (Coyne, Stockdale, Busby,
Iverson, Grant, 2011). You have given him so much in a text message that he has not been given

When you like someone, you make plans to meet, have dinner, or meet for coffee. The simple fact
that he refuses or avoid this could mean he is not disclosing something, such as another
relationship. He does not necessarily have to disclose everything about himself because your
interaction is just text message. How can you tell he likes you when you have never seen him smile
at you? Or wink at you? Or even kissed you? Self disclosure increases the needs to reduce any
uncertainties in a relationship. In your case, you are not in a relationship, not even in a situation
however, the lack thereof should determine whether you should continue pursuing your work crush
beyond the text messages. You cannot even post on FACEBOOK about your new relationship.
Seriously, after two weeks he should have made a move , such as invite you to a movie or dinner.
You have shown signs of the Uncertainty Reduction Theory. The Uncertainty Reduction Theory

specifically looks into the initial interaction between people prior to the actual communication
process. The theory asserts the notion that, when interacting, people need information about the
other party in order to reduce their uncertainty. In gaining this information people are able to predict
the other s behavior and resulting actions, all of which according to the theory is crucial in the
development of any relationship, (Berger Calabrese, 1975). Your letter has indicated you have made

The Physics Of Electric Force
Theory Electric force can be defined as an attraction or repulsion between two particles that is
directly related to the charge of the two particles. So when a different voltage is applied to two
metal plates the opposite charges that are applied produce an attraction. To be able to figure out the
magnitude of the field on these plates one must know the charges, surface area, and the vacuum
dielectric constant. With knowing the value of the electric fieldone can then calculate the value of
the electric force that is being experienced between the two plates.
Experimental Description This experiment consisted of four separate parts. The first part was to
adjust the balance to make sure it was working properly, and to measure its ... Show more content

That value was .0161m^2. Next we had to check the check the voltage for deflection by turning
on the power supply and adjusting the voltage. Once everything checked out properly we were
able to move onto the next section. In part 2 of the experiment we had to measure the deflection
of the plates with the laser. First we turned on the laser and measured the initial ho value of
.52m, then we touched the two plates together for the ht value and that number was .44m. Next
we measured the distance from the mirror to the ruler and it was 1.67m. With all of these values
from the first two parts we could plug them into the formula yo=(ho ht)(X/2D). This will give us
the distance between our plates so when we plugged those values into that equation we got yo to
equal .00515m which is a very close value to our original y estimate of .005m. In part three of
the experiment we had measure deflection using mass, so we started by placing .0001 kg in the
center of the pan and then plugging it into the formula F=mg to find out the force it was exerting
on the top pan. This force was .00098N and it pushed the pans about half of the way closer
together from the original spot. Then the h1 value was obtained by reading the spot of the laser on
the ruler. This was repeated three times and we got h1 values of .475m, .473m, and .475m. These
values were then plugged into formula y1=(h1 ht)(x/2D). The three y1 values were .00225m,
.00212m,

Lizard Research Paper
The lizards Respiratory Function and Procedure for Surgery
Lizards are a unique animal for various reasons, but I find one of these unique qualities to be
especially fascinating. That is the respiratory system and the reptile s spontaneous ventilation rate is
directly related to temperature and partial pressure of oxygen (PO2). Whereas the mammals
respiration is strictly related and driven by carbon dioxide (PCO2). In veterinary medicine this is
something that comes up when it comes time to use anesthesia on a reptile for a surgical or other
procedure in which they will need to be anesthetized. Inhalants are somewhat of a contradiction as
the lizard can hold its breath for long periods of time during the induction phase of inhalant
anesthesia, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Isoflurane is the accepted inhalant agent of choice for reptiles. Isoflurane is cardiovascular
sparing, has short residual effect, and is readily available, with concentrations of two to five
percent the amount that may be needed. The newer inhalant agent sevoflurane has been evaluated
in the desert tortoise, and appears to be quite safe and short acting. The manufacturer of
sevoflurane reports it to be useful for mask or chamber induction in reptiles as it has less odor
and is less irritating than isoflurane. Attempts to induce anesthesia by mask or chamber induction
may often fail, or take a very long time, due to reptiles ability to become apneic for long periods
as discussed earlier. In high oxygenated areas, the spontaneous ventilation is suppressed as the need
for the oxygen is already being made by the oxygen saturation of the inhalant anesthesia. Lizards
experience profound respiratory depression under anesthesia, and assisted or intermittent positive
pressure ventilation (IPPV) is usually a general procedure needed. Thus being why control of the
airway is essential in the lizard when under inhalant anesthesia. In general, induction of anesthesia
with an injectable drug will facilitate intubation. Intubation is relatively easy for most species of
lizards as the glottis is located rather prominently at the base of the tongue. Endotracheal tubes for
reptiles should generally be non cuffed Cole tubes, or

Germanic Influence on Higher Education
Germanic Influence on Higher Education
Before one can move forward with their education one must understand where it all started. When
researching the history of higher education there is a common theme in every aspect of my
research. I would find the word college and the word university . Throughout the 19th century there
would be some confusion between the two words. In colleges the primary role is teaching where as
in the university research and scholarships are the primary role (Lucas,2006). Also, current
universities offer post baccalaureate or graduate instruction whereas colleges do not. However, this
was not always the case before the 19th century.
The impact of German university scholarship upon nineteenth century American higher education is
one of the most significant in modern intellectual history (Westmeyer, 1985,p. ?). Before the impact
of Germany American universities were not research and scholarship based. American scholars
were beginning to get frustrated that they did not have the opportunity to develop higher studies
within their schools. While this frustration started to grow students began to look for other ways to
advance their studies. During 1815 1914 10,000 students took the opportunity to try and evolve
their knowledge through attending German universities (Westmeyer, 1985). Of the 10,000 students
academic celebrities as Leopold von Ranke, Herman von Homholtz, Wilhem Wundt took this
opportunity to advance their knowledge through

Iraq War Strategy
For Iraq, also failing to begin that endeavor with a clear endstate and what the international
community or the United States should do with Iraq after we broke it has proven costly not just to
Iraqis and Americans, but now to the stability of the entire region. Unilateral action is always risky
and, in this instance, despite our partners in the conflict, it has proven unwise not only for the
outcome but for the damage to our strategic influence. Just as Truman and Marshall were concerned
about a power vacuum post WWII enabling Communism to consume Europe, we should have been
mindful of the same in 2003. Iraq, Afghanistan and Vietnam are all reminders that failing to learn
from the past, to not consider all the elements of strategy, to not clearly define our endstate and to

In contrast, those strategies undertaken without the elements above and devoid of understanding
the culture, geographic, and ideological factors may win tactically but will probably fail
strategically. Howard sums best with, it was the inadequacy of the sociopolitical analysis of the
societies with which we were dealing that lay at the root of the failure of the Western powers to
cope more effectively with the revolutionary and insurgency movements that characterized the

Julius Cicero Research Paper
Marcus Tullius Cicero was murdered on December 7, 43 B.C.E. which was around the time of
the fall of the Roman Republic. Cicero was many things such as an orator, lawyer, politician,
philosopher, and writer. His writings, to this day, are a valuable source of information about such
political events and was widely read in the 19th century. He also was dubbed one of the greatest
philosophers of the ancient era. One of his greatest pieces was Hortensius. This writing was based
on himself turning away from his sinful life and moving forward to God.
1.Cicero s Life
Cicero had a great political career. He defied the odds of what it took to be in politics. Usually, in
politics, you need to aristocratic and wealthy. Cicero and his family were aristocratic; however,
they were not wealthy. Ambition at a young age is what drove him to this success.
Cicero chose his career in law. He needed to prepare for this by studying jurisprudence, rhetoric,
philosophy, and also taking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

he was dubbed to be one of the greatest philosophers and on the other hand, he wasn t that great of

more concerned about politics and their governance. In order for philosophy to appeal to the
Romans, he had to translate his writing from Greek to Latin. Cicero wrote many different dialogues
about his philosophies. However, one piece that was well known was the Hortensius. In that
dialogue, he was known to have converted St. Augustine to be a Christian. Augustine then adopted
some of his philosophy on the Hortensius to argue against others that Christians were not the cause
to the fall of the Roman empire. This related to the work that was done after Caesar took over the
Empire. People started to blame others and Augustine tried to turn their views

  • 2. Essay on Compromise of 1877 Compromise of 1877 African Americans may sometimes wonder at the contradictory facts about their history presented in many standard history texts. These texts state that blacks were given the right to vote in 1870, yet the same texts will acknowledge that this right did not really exist for African Americans until the Civil RightsMovement of the 1960s. Similarly, the first public accommodation law was passed in 1875, but history shows that it took 91 years before it was acknowledged and African Americans were allowed to the full benefits of citizenship.1 It is common knowledge that the American Civil Warprovided freedom and certain civil rights, including to right to vote, to the African American populationof the ... These rights were constitutionalized in 1868. African Americans did not acquire the right to vote till 1870.7 There was enormous resistance from forces in the South throughout these years, these reforms were not easily instituted; yet, the movement toward real equality ended in 1870. In that year, Senator Charles Sumner of Massachusetts introduced a bill which, had it been passed unchanged, would have abolished racial discrimination and segregation in public schools, cemeteries, railroads...inns..and the exclusion of citizens from jury service on the basis of race. Unfortunately, this final triumph of the Reconstruction met with defeat.8 This was because the country, as a whole, not just the South, was tired of the ongoing crusade for civil rights. A representative from Delaware, on the floor of the Senate, even questioned if the Fourteenth Amendment had any illegal or binding force in law. This same representative then made a ... • 6. Service Dogs Research Paper A Snapshot of Canines at Work Dogs dramatically impact the lives of people in numerous aspects. Not only do they work for humans tirelessly, but they do it with a smile on their face and a wag in their tail, and they are non judgmental towards people with disabilities. People utilized the help and companionship dogs provided even hundreds of years ago. However, many people see dogs as futile, considering training, money, time, and work that is put into owning a dog, let alone having it specifically trained to do a certain job. It is also risky putting so much time and effort into a dog, being aware that they are very capable of making mistakes just as humans are. Also, many people do not know the depth of the work that dogs provide, or... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some disabled people feel very disconnected from normal people, but a service dog helps them overcome that, and also become more independent. Service dogs seem to positively influence socialization and community participation in a variety of environments. Two studies observed partnerships in natural environments (Eddy et al., 1988; Mader et al., 1989) and reported that community members smiled and conversed with children and adults with service dogs more than children and adults without service dogs, and community members did not avoid the person with a disability as much when a service dog was present (Winkle, Crowe, and Hendrix 57). Service dogs allow disabled people to do more things on their own, with the help of the dog, and feel like they do not have to rely on other people to help them as much. In addition, when a disabled person has a service dog, they have a companion that is by their side throughout the day, boosting their confidence. Presnall writes: Jennifer had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at the age of sixteen... I felt kind of repulsive and unlovable in that wheelchair, [Jennifer] says. But I knew a service dog would look at me and just think I was cool (8). More evidence of this is proven with the bond between David, a man who had both of his legs amputated above his knees, and his dog Inca. Inca s arrival has made a huge difference to David s life, both emotionally and physically (Bidder 48). Thus, service dogs impact their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Does Janie Should Be Diagnosed As Asperger s Syndrome Essay Case Study According to the extensive amount of information provided in this case study about 6 year old Janie, I have come to the conclusion that Janie should be diagnosed as having a mild form of Autistic Spectrum Disorder formerly known as Asperger s syndrome. Under the Autistic Spectrum Disorder Asperger s syndrome is one of four pervasive developmental disorders (PDD) that all fall under the Autistic spectrum. What exactly does this mean and how does it shape U.S. foreign policy? The War on Drugs can be defined as the systematic and aggressive policy that is determined to undermine and stop the flow of illegal drugs into the United States. This policy is backed by several U.S. institutions including the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), U.S. Army, U.S. Coast Guard, and U.S. Customs. The U.S. has used this policy in several South American countries as a means to limit drug trafficking before it has a chance to develop. However, significantly reducing crops has not always led to decreasing drug trafficking. Reduction of drug crops in one country may lead to increased production in another. This is likely to happen when one country becomes the focus of an eradication effort, while another country can increase its production to fill in the void. If there is one thing that the world market can produce, it is its high demand of illegal drugs. The Drug Policy Alliance gives cites a specific instance verifying the problems that can be associated with eradication procedures. During the mid 1990s, eradication efforts in Bolivia and Peru created incentives to grow coca in Columbia. While Peru experienced a 66% reduction in coca cultivation and Bolivia experienced a 53% reduction, coca cultivation in Columbia doubled. In addition, more potent strains of coca have been developed, leading to higher yielding coca crops. This example shows the adverse effects of the policy of eradication. An age long tradition in India dictates children to decide on a career path as early as sixth grade. It was during that audit I found an echo of my passion for management and planning. In addition to the audit work, I closely observed other things happening in the company and its management. My interactions with the employees, the management staff, and the promoters helped me to learn about the management and the running of a company. There was never a dull moment as I grasped a lot of knowledge from what they did. My stint in the event management company sowed the seeds of my enthusiasm for organization and management. Thereafter, I was dreaming of running my own company and thoroughly enjoying the work. Although my father s efforts could not convince me to like accounting, it led me to my new found passion. There was some genuine excitement in knowing that the field of accountancy, in a way, was chosen for me, but a career in management would reflect my choice. Furthermore, this choice was purely motivated by my passion and enthusiasm. In the next couple of days, a bone curdling thought that I could have committed a blunder by continuing the Chartered Accountancy profession dawned on me. Muddled and terrified, I prepared myself to verbalize my decision to my parents. Holocaust denial is the act of denying the genocide of Jews and other groups in the Holocaust during World War II. Abstract art is defined as art that does not attempt to represent external reality, but seeks to achieve its effect using shapes, forms, colors, and textures. Due to this, it has a higher potential for variation within color schemes and materials. Said potential makes art not only valuable but ultimately unique no matter what piece you look at. By addressing this in conjunction with obtaining Teapot by Waldemar Kolbusz, DePauw University would be showing how much it prides itself on educating its students and administration through the implementation of art. By using oil, wax, and stained canvases, he focuses mainly in abstract paintings in solo and group exhibits that show emphasis on color and shape. Within these subcategories, Kolbusz deems his work as expressionistic and works to show contrast within hue and the movement within shape to evoke emotion and reactions from viewers. While his pieces remain defined as abstract, he focuses on lifelike shapes and movements within his paintings by creating intense, organic shapes. • 34. Summary Of Murnau s The Last Laugh Friedrich Willhelm (F.W.) Murnau s The Last Laugh (1924) holds a special place within silent film (Bordwell 2016). It is the film that made Murnau popular with American audiences, and in turn, its success lead him to move to Hollywood and eventually make masterpieces (not to say that The Last Laugh itself isn t a masterpiece), such as Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans (1927). Both films evoke the surreality of life, but unlike the celebratory SunriseВё The Last Laughlaments life s predestined nature. Murnau dramatizes this lamentation through the contrast of the real with the fanciful and through his use of doors. From the first shot, The Last Laugh manages to be both hyper realistic and utterly whimsical. We are whisked down the elevator and out the constantly revolving door into a city, that while appearing to be real at first, is just a painted backdrop. But Murnau spares no expense to fool the audience; he even has figures moving inside the painted towers, which to the untrained eye cause the towers to seem real. Alas, the towers are fake, but these moving figures serve a larger purpose than just to be a tool to suspend the audience s belief. They add to the busy aesthetic of the The Last Laugh. The world Murnau has created is a hectic one where One day you are preeminent, respected by all, as the opening title announces, and the next you are a nobody, and before you know it, life has passed you by. This is the case for our unnamed protagonist (Emil Jannings) who is now ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To do this, Niven first assumed that ПЂ =a / b, for relatively prime integers, a and b. He then created a polynomial function of power 2n that depends on the constant a and b. Next, define the polynomial for a constant integern, which Ivan Niven used in his proof: This function f(x) has properties that are required in proving that pi is irrational. One property is that when f(x) =0; then f(x) = f(ПЂ x) : For the polynomial n!f(x) = xn(a bx)n, the term (a bx)n can be expanded into a new polynomial with integer coefficients ranging from power 0 to n using the binomial theorem. Niven used what he has stated before: f(x) = xn(a bx)n/n!, and showed how that (a bx) a when x is bounded between 0 and ПЂ. From this Niven stated that must be a smaller value than (a)n. The reason they apply to comprehending chapter 5 and the book is because courage is a major characteristic of the underdog, and without it they become the average person who is unable to overcome disadvantages exceedingly well. In particular courage was a key aspect in the way Freirich approached the children with leukemia. In contrast, apprehension is a quality that the underdog is not familiar with, alternatively it is a trait of a person who is not willing to take risks, chances, think outside of the box, or oppose the norm . Gladwell gave extensive detail to drive the point home of how audacious it was not to think outside of the box or form an unconvential strategy to help save these childrens lives. In order to really understand the general atmosphere, which appeared to be morgue like; the attitudes of the doctors who worked on that ward issuing death sentences providing no hope to their patients needed to be made crystal clear. Otherwise, it would be difficult for your average person who has empathy to understand some of Freirichs approaches as they were viewed as haineous and unempathetic. Even though Freirich did not possess a great amount of bedside manner, he did have empathy for the continued torture that the children were experiencing; relative to his childhood. Freirich could empathize because he also had a tormented period of life, his ability to emotionally express this was void. In essence the lack of affection as a child affected his genteel nature in adulthood. Freirich is able to handle these factors in the Cancer ward because he immediately began attempting to conform to the heinous conditions by finding a resolution or way to improve the statistics. The difference in Freirich and your average person is his resilience in opposing the giants in these circumstances despite the consequences. The majority of art young people receive in our culture is through television and in particularly popular culture networks, like MTV. The television show on MTV called The Hills is an example of a show that promotes dominant ideologyto young children/ teenagers. Slightly opposite of that would be another show on MTV called Jersey Shore, which is an example of a show that partly reinforces and partly challenges dominant ideology to the same type of audience. The two shows are looking at people who are in their 20s and there life as they live it in their current situation, they both claim to be reality television with no scripts.... In the rare few times that we do see food at the table we hardly ever see them eat, and the food that is placed in front of them are small portions of salads or other healthy substances of food. There is differences between in the food that the males of the show eat and the females eat, again on the rare times that food is involved the women are seen to have the salads where the men are seen to have meat substance of food, however, both still falling on the relatively small size portions of food. Women s relationship with food is always different then men s because women are seen to need less food, and seen to need to diet. Men need more food not only because they are seen as bigger but also because in order from them to diet/ gain muscle they need to eat lots of protein for working out. At about ten years of age, my parents bought a book titled: Women who read are dangerous. This book depicted several paintings, sculptures and photographs of women reading; among which was the Portrait of Madame de Pompadour. The second I witnessed the detail and extravagance of the painting, I fell in love with it. Luckily at the time I was living in Bavaria, coincidentally also the current home of said painting. When I went to see it, it was much larger in person than I could have ever envisioned and much more vibrant in color and detail than I could have ever imagined. Over the years I have seen many more paintings, I have to yet be overwhelmed the way I was when I first saw the Portrait of Madame de Pompadour. To argue this he shows that the alternative to this free economy, patterning our distribution of resources, is unjust because it causes interference in people s lives. Summary Of Let s Talk About Sex Essay Aileen Burkett Prof. Pat Buck Global Perspectives of Women November 15, 2016 Let s Talk About Sex.....Preference in Non Western Cultures Introduction Each day, over one hundred and eighteen million babies are born worldwide. According to the biological sex binary male and female, every infant has the possibility of being born with sex chromosomes female (XX) and male (XY), which causes differences in their biological anatomies. There are also individuals with disorders of sex development or more commonly referred to as being intersex. Intersex is an umbrella term for people whose sexual or reproductive anatomies, sex hormones, or sex chromosomes just do not fall neatly into the definitions of male and female. Examples of this disorder could include ambiguous genitalia, androgen sensitivity, or abnormalities with how the rest of the body responds to sex hormones. The majority of cultures around the globe give merit to and recognize the differences in biological sex (male/female binary), what roles they have played in their traditions/histories, and their current position in framing politics or societal structures. Some Non Western countries such as China, India, Taiwan, and Pakistan, include cultures that exhibit a strong sex preference, or more specifically son preference. I would not be the individual I am today without that. Over time, my gender has also made me a more confident person and given me the strength to take pride in being a woman: a woman studying science, a woman unafraid to have a voice, a strong woman. I have become more educated and aware of societal concepts, both lies and truths and a big part of that was due to friends I made who introduced me to a new mindset and new ways of looking at things. Early on in my life, I distinguished the difference between gender which was, with my limited knowledge only men and woman, due to the difference in the way we were treated. I became familiar with the stereotypes that society flung on us women cook and clean and men do all the labour. It was a traditional way of thinking that I grew up with and that didn t change until I was much older, probably around the age of 13 or 14. My cousin, a brilliantly loud and passionate woman (even at 15 years of age) introduced the term feminism to me and I truly thought she was crazy and man hating, just like all the stereotypes led me to believe. I began to learn, though. As time passed, I started absorbing all sorts of new information and the most important thing was that I educated myself. I looked at gender again but from a different angle. I questioned society, I questioned everything. Feminism opened a door to a realm that I had only begun to explore at the time. I have both a younger brother and sister and I noticed all the pressure around them to be certain ways, especially my brother because growing up with two older sisters taught him to be gentle and soft spoken, unlike what a real man ought to be when he grows up. I realized how toxic masculinity could be and I wanted to be a good example to my siblings and taught myself more on the subject. I taught myself the ways that gender was harmful, including the notion that we all had to fit a binary. Growing up, everyone I knew was either male or female . In dynamic business environments, the value of existing resources is subject to erosion, in some instances fast erosion. VCs are different from angel investors, who are often erroneously considered the same as VC, in that VCs rely on raising a pool of capital from limited partners (LP), and invest on their behalf as general partners (GP), via a limited partnership that is the actual fund (VC firms often manage several funds). Angel investing refers to individual investors, who are often the first group of investors in a new enterprise, who provide capital and mentorship. Other major human achievements at this time included complex weaponry that could kill from a secure distance, much like the mechanics of the weaponry we have and still use in battle today. First we turned on the laser and measured the initial ho value of .52m, then we touched the two plates together for the ht value and that number was .44m. Next we measured the distance from the mirror to the ruler and it was 1.67m. With all of these values from the first two parts we could plug them into the formula yo=(ho ht)(X/2D). This will give us the distance between our plates so when we plugged those values into that equation we got yo to equal .00515m which is a very close value to our original y estimate of .005m. In part three of the experiment we had measure deflection using mass, so we started by placing .0001 kg in the center of the pan and then plugging it into the formula F=mg to find out the force it was exerting on the top pan. This force was .00098N and it pushed the pans about half of the way closer together from the original spot. Then the h1 value was obtained by reading the spot of the laser on the ruler. This was repeated three times and we got h1 values of .475m, .473m, and .475m. These values were then plugged into formula y1=(h1 ht)(x/2D). The three y1 values were .00225m, .00212m, ... That is the respiratory system and the reptile s spontaneous ventilation rate is directly related to temperature and partial pressure of oxygen (PO2). Whereas the mammals respiration is strictly related and driven by carbon dioxide (PCO2). In veterinary medicine this is something that comes up when it comes time to use anesthesia on a reptile for a surgical or other procedure in which they will need to be anesthetized. Isoflurane is the accepted inhalant agent of choice for reptiles. Isoflurane is cardiovascular sparing, has short residual effect, and is readily available, with concentrations of two to five percent the amount that may be needed. The newer inhalant agent sevoflurane has been evaluated in the desert tortoise, and appears to be quite safe and short acting. The manufacturer of sevoflurane reports it to be useful for mask or chamber induction in reptiles as it has less odor and is less irritating than isoflurane. Attempts to induce anesthesia by mask or chamber induction may often fail, or take a very long time, due to reptiles ability to become apneic for long periods as discussed earlier. In high oxygenated areas, the spontaneous ventilation is suppressed as the need for the oxygen is already being made by the oxygen saturation of the inhalant anesthesia. Lizards experience profound respiratory depression under anesthesia, and assisted or intermittent positive pressure ventilation (IPPV) is usually a general procedure needed. Thus being why control of the airway is essential in the lizard when under inhalant anesthesia. In general, induction of anesthesia with an injectable drug will facilitate intubation. When researching the history of higher education there is a common theme in every aspect of my research. I would find the word college and the word university . Throughout the 19th century there would be some confusion between the two words. In colleges the primary role is teaching where as in the university research and scholarships are the primary role (Lucas,2006). Also, current universities offer post baccalaureate or graduate instruction whereas colleges do not. However, this was not always the case before the 19th century. The impact of German university scholarship upon nineteenth century American higher education is one of the most significant in modern intellectual history (Westmeyer, 1985,p. ?). Before the impact of Germany American universities were not research and scholarship based. American scholars were beginning to get frustrated that they did not have the opportunity to develop higher studies within their schools. While this frustration started to grow students began to look for other ways to advance their studies. During 1815 1914 10,000 students took the opportunity to try and evolve their knowledge through attending German universities (Westmeyer, 1985). Of the 10,000 students academic celebrities as Leopold von Ranke, Herman von Homholtz, Wilhem Wundt took this opportunity to advance their knowledge through ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Iraq War Strategy For Iraq, also failing to begin that endeavor with a clear endstate and what the international community or the United States should do with Iraq after we broke it has proven costly not just to Iraqis and Americans, but now to the stability of the entire region. Unilateral action is always risky and, in this instance, despite our partners in the conflict, it has proven unwise not only for the outcome but for the damage to our strategic influence. Just as Truman and Marshall were concerned about a power vacuum post WWII enabling Communism to consume Europe, we should have been mindful of the same in 2003. Iraq, Afghanistan and Vietnam are all reminders that failing to learn from the past, to not consider all the elements of strategy, to not clearly define our endstate and to not commit fully to them remain... As the case studies of the Civil War, WWII, Containment, and the Gulf War demonstrate strategies conceived with clear objectives, with political and popular will, multi laterally, with the intangible elements of strategy in mind and proper whole of government resourcing, outcomes are successful. In contrast, those strategies undertaken without the elements above and devoid of understanding the culture, geographic, and ideological factors may win tactically but will probably fail strategically. Howard sums best with, it was the inadequacy of the sociopolitical analysis of the societies with which we were dealing that lay at the root of the failure of the Western powers to cope more effectively with the revolutionary and insurgency movements that characterized the postwar era, from China in the 1940s to Vietnam in the 1960s and I submit this same weakness cripples the US strategy in Iraq and Afghanistan ... He defied the odds of what it took to be in politics. Usually, in politics, you need to aristocratic and wealthy. Cicero and his family were aristocratic; however, they were not wealthy. In some centuries, he was dubbed to be one of the greatest philosophers and on the other hand, he wasn t that great of a writer. Philosophy, at the time, was popular in Greece, but not so much in Rome. They were more concerned about politics and their governance. In order for philosophy to appeal to the Romans, he had to translate his writing from Greek to Latin. Cicero wrote many different dialogues about his philosophies. However, one piece that was well known was the Hortensius. In that dialogue, he was known to have converted St. Augustine to be a Christian. Augustine then adopted some of his philosophy on the Hortensius to argue against others that Christians were not the cause to the fall of the Roman empire. This related to the work that was done after Caesar took over the Empire. People started to blame others and Augustine tried to turn their views ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
