The Inclusion Of Special Educational Needs
The inclusion of special educational needs (SEN) students into mainstream schools is a key issue
across England. The Education for All Handicapped Children Act (Public Law 94 142) states that all
handicapped children [have] the right to a free appropriate public education. However, there has been
much debate concerning which approaches have a more active influence on the efficacy of inclusion.
This essay will aim to investigate how practical and successful inclusion techniques are within a
community whilst underlying both the advantages and disadvantages that inclusion may generate. The
terminology associated with this discussion is one of the main factors contributing to ineffective
inclusion. What does it mean to be included? When is the inclusion complete? What is successful
inclusion? How can one achieve the inclusion of all children? These questions are too open and cannot
be resolved without a sole and concise explanation. The term [inclusion] itself connotes a multiplicity
of meanings (Murphy, 1996, p. 471) and as there is very little literature stating what is meant by
inclusion in one concise definition, it constitutes great controversy within the matter. Therefore, the
inclusion of SEN pupils within schools across England has not always been successful. Despite there
being much interpretation to the terminology, integral aspects of the process can be neglected and may
result in segregation still existing within some schools. This issue may be resolved by

Lean Production And Production Of Vehicles
Lean production of vehicles was started in Japan by Toyota company. It has some similarities with the
mass production; however, it is quite different from the craft production. One of the main similarities
that the lean production shares with the mass production is that they both use the assembly line for the
production of the vehicles, which was initiated by Ford. Unlike, mass production: Ohno placed a cord
above every work station and instructed worker to stop the whole assembly line immediately if a
problem emerged that they couldn t fix (56). In the mass production, if the problem occurred, and no
one paid attention to it while the production process, then the car company had to fix the errors in all
the vehicles that had been produced no matter how large the quantity was. In the lean production of
vehicles: Ohno instead instituted a system of problem solving called the five why s (56). Taiichi Ohno,
the founder of Toyota company, made sure that once the problem has been identified in the production
process, then what kind of precautions company can take to prevent the problem, so it never occurs
again, which saved a lot of time compared to mass production. One similarity that lean production has
with the craft production is that the vehicles were not produced on a larger scale, rather they were
diverse small vehicles, such as trucks and cars. In the mass production, changing the die cut process
took months; however, in the lean production process reduced

The Civil War And The 19th Century Essay
The 19th century was one of the most troubling times in human history. Things like the civil war, child
labor and even slavery helped shape the literary culture from 1850 1900. The civil war was a war
fought between the Northern and Southern States in the United States of America. Among the 34
states in January 1861, seven Southern slave states individually declared their secession from the
United States of America and formed the Confederate States of America. The first state to secede was
south carolina after the election of president lincoln in 1860. After South Carolina seceded, the cotton
states of Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas followed, seceding in January
and February 1861. Union and Confederate leadership and fighting soldiers on both sides believed that
slavery caused the Civil War. Union men mainly believed the war was to emancipate the slaves.
Confederates fought to protect southern society, and slavery as a part of it. Sectionalism refers to the
different economies, social structure, culture and customs and values of the North and South. While
the south based their economy off of slave labor and plantation agriculture, the North was urbanizing,
industrializing and had feigned slavery out of existence. Southern slaveholding states, because of their
low cost labor, had little need for industrialization. While the North highly invested in its
industrialization, could not compete with the industries of Europe in offering high prices

Analysis Of The Movie Kane Monroe
KANE MONROE presents with a very intriguing blend of story types. It blends an old fashion
western revenge story with fantasy and action. The goal is clear and the stakes are high. It s a story
that easily engages. The audience effortlessly roots for Kane Monroe.
The setting feels authentic to the time period and to the culture. The characters are likable and seem to
be castable, especially Kane. The action sequences are nicely crafted.
The script offers a three act structure. The first act establishes that Kane has visions of past lives, but
in all his lives he encounters one villain. The inciting event is when he sees a wanted poster that looks
like his nemesis. He leaves home on a determined quest that propels the story forward. The ... Show

Perhaps it s because there isn t one consistent backstory regarding William that the audience can
follow.
If the past lives element is important, the story might work more appropriately if the fantasy element
were more developed and one could fully understand the love story and the rival between William and
Luther.
Instead of the idea that Kane has lived multiple past lives, perhaps consider the idea that he has just
lived one. In fact, the script doesn t really show his other lives in detail. There s a vision of being a
Japanese Samurai, but it s very short lived and no real story is developed and Luther/Moss isn t in that
fantasy.
Thus, the rules of the world need to be clarified. The audience is told he lives other lives, but with one
consistent nemesis, but the story doesn t follow through on this.
The other alternative is to just create an old fashioned western revenge story, but to make it more
unique by having Kane trained in the art of martial arts and sword fighting (similar to Kung Fu TV
series).
There are features of the script not well understood and would benefit from more development.
The sequences involving Lillian are a bit confusing. Is she working with Moss? Why were the bandits
after Kane? What might not be clear is if Moss has ordered his men to find Kane and/or when Moss
realizes Kane is on his trail. This should be clarified.
The other area of the script that becomes perplexing is Traveling Bear and Running Flower. When

Sexuality In Tennessee Williams Cat On A Hot Tin Roof
In the play Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Williams explores a theme of sexuality. The story focuses on Brick
and his wife, Margaret. Margaret cares deeply for Brick and refuses to leave his side. Brick is ashamed
of his sexulity in the play. When he was younger he was great at sports and had a very close
relationship with his friend, Skipper. As I read the play I could see The crutch now bounds and helps
create a juxtaposition of his former self. When Brick was younger he was happy being with Skipper,
but now he attempts to escape. In the play the motif is the click in Brick s head. All he wants
throughout the play is to have the click occur. When the click occurs he can finally go to sleep in
peace. The click I get in my head when I ve had enough of this stuff to make me peaceful (Williams
26). A urge to escape can be seen in many of Williams play. Big Mama is a over caring and
overreaching character in the play. She attempts to have everything be perfect. Big Daddy is an angry
man who refuses to see that people care for him. These two character share a similar connection with
Williams father and mother. Big Daddy aggression towards his family is similar to how Williams
father became filled with aggression in his later years. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Sashaying your fat old body around the place I made. (Williams 58). Big Mama deeply hurt by what
Big Daddy has said, just attempts to pass it off as if he isn t feeling himself. She has been nothing but
loyal to him, but he only sees it as her trying to get what he has made. Brick cannot accept his feelings

Bartleby, the Hero in Herman Melville’s Short Story...
Bartleby, The Hero in Herman Melville s short Story Bartleby the Scrivener In Herman Melville s
short story Bartleby the Scrivener, Bartleby is the hero. The reasons as to why Bartleby is considered
the hero of the story are that first, the character refuses to write in his job in the law office. He even
starves himself to death by refusing to eat, but in the end, the spirit of Bartleby still remains alive and
haunts the narrator. Throughout his life, the narrator remains haunted by the spiritual pride and
continues to struggle with the principles of morality and justice. Bartleby is also a hero because he not
only shows his courage towards confronting the society using his will power, but he also shapes the
conscience of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This aspect of Bartleby s heroism affects the story by developing a new theme to the story and
developing the character of the narrator who is part of the story as the boss to Bartleby. It develops the
theme of association between chronometrical time and the world of the spirits. It also changes the
character of the narrator because he develops a new attitude towards time, and the world of spirits,
which changes his normal way of belief. The narrator of the story becomes shocked when he discovers
that Bartleby, who only feeds on ginger nuts, has never left the office. This is actually the first time
that the narrator experiences the spiritual power that Bartleby possesses. The narrator is so much
business oriented that he only looks at the world in terms of profits. However, when he encounters this
aspect of the spirit of Bartleby, his attitude towards life changes. He begins appreciating the fact that
Bartleby deserves better treatment, not in the capitalist way. The narrator even sees what is a right, just
as an asset, but this perception is later changed by Bartleby s spirit: What earthly right have you to
stay here? Do you pay any rent? Do you pay my taxes? Or is this property yours? (Melville, 41). The
perception of the narrator, of everything including rights of Bartleby as assets prevents the narrator
from understanding the spiritual aspect of the pride in Bartleby. Although the narrator

Advantages Of Brakes
CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
1.1 INTRODUCTION TO BRAKES
Brakes are mechanical devices that increase the frictional resistance that retards the turning motion
that is supplied to the wheels of the vehicle. In a vacuum assisted hydraulic brake system, a constant
vacuum is kept maintained in the brake booster using the engine. When the brake pedal is pushed
down, a poppet valve opens and air pushes/rushes into the pressure chamber on the driver s side of the
booster. In a vacuum braking system, vacuum is used for the application of brakes.
Braking the train is a very complex process, particularly to rail vehicles and is of great importance
because of essential contribution on the safety of the moving vehicle. This complexity comes into
picture from the fact, that during braking process various phenomena occurs, of ... Show more content

it should be same as in the brake pipe, during brake release but that the connection to the brake pipe is
closed during a brake application. It is important to close the connection as soon as the brake pipe
vacuum is reduced so that a difference in pressure is created between the upper and lower sides of the
brake cylinder piston.
1.4 ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF VACUUM BRAKES:
ADVANTAGES:
1. It provides partial release, which the air brake could not.
2. It consists of accelerator valves which help to speed up the operation on each vehicle.
3. It consists of two pipe system, in which one is brake pipe and the second was provided to give an
additional supply to speed up the brake release.
4. It consists of an equalizing reservoir which helps to set the brake to the right level.
5. Door operation , whistles, warning horns, etc. can be operated using the vacuum supply.
6. It is simple in design.
DISADVANTAGES:
1. It takes longer time to

What Is Discrimination In Cultural Discrimination
Many Hispanics in the United States have been discriminated and it is a serious problem. About half
of Hispanics in the U.S. (52%) say they have experienced discrimination or have been treated unfairly
because of their race or ethnicity , according to a newly released Pew Research Center Survey on race
in America. For example, I was working at Food 4 Less helping Spanish speaking customers when I
was only able to speak English to them. My fellow work members from a distance were looking at
me, most likely talking behind my back. I would go ask for another coworker who is able to speak
Spanish to help out my customer, but I Mexican and I was supposed to be able to speak Spanish. Since
I am not able to a lot of the Mexican workers say a lot of mean things behind my back in Spanish or
when they are right next to me. What they don t know is I am able to understand what they are saying.
I don t know how to speak Spanish, but I can understand Spanish very well. I was born in America,
but my parents were born in Mexico and came here to the United States legally. I was just never able
to get the hang of speaking Spanish just understanding the basic parts of it. I have been personally
discriminated by other Latinos, not African Americas or Americas during my work. African Americas
are the number one race to get discriminated by in the work when Latinos are coming in second at
52%. According to a Pew research poll, Latino people are the 2nd most discriminated against ethnic

Paper Towel Advertisements Analysis
In advertisements these people are trying to sell you onto different things. They do everything that
they can to catch your attention. Depending on what they are trying to sell they will include things
relating to it that are easily likeable into the ad to lead you into trying it out. Advertisements are made
to get your attention to it, when you walk past something whether it s in a grocery store or just out and
about you see it and in your mind it clicks that you have seen it and since you ve already seen it
somewhere you re now more likely to try it out. Advertisements can have various positive effects and
various negative effects to it.
In a lot of advertisements people will demonstrate a comparison between their brand and another
brand. For example in different paper towel advertisements they will spill liquids all over the counter
and compare how their paper towel collects more of the liquid than the next paper towel brand. It is
called affective conditioning which means to transfer your feelings ... Show more content on

Essay On Book Banning
Book banning first became prevalent in America in the early to mid nineteenth century. It was a way
to stop content that had been labeled sensitive or harmful from reaching its intended audience. The
first noted public challenge was Charles Darwin s On the Origin of the Species which included a
description of his theory that humans and other creatures could have evolved without the guiding hand
of a divine power, threatening many religious beliefs at that time. This led to the book being banned in
several states, including Connecticut and Tennessee. Over the next few decades, many books would be
challenged and banned; there would be protests and several court cases that make it to a national level.
Today, very few books are actually banned, however a great many are challenged for their content that
adults find too explicit or sensitive for their children. This past week was Banned Books Week, a time
where many Americans come together to read and discuss the topic of banned books, why they were
banned, and if it was really necessary. Banning books only started because adults wanted to keep
young, impressionable minds away from opinions that did not match theirs. On the Origin of the
Species was only banned because it questioned the possibility of a God in a mostly Catholic society.
To Kill A Mockingbird was originally banned because it addressed racial problems in a society that
was fighting for equality for all races. Literature like these works have come to the people in

The Effects Of Religious Discrimination In Australia
Religious beliefs are an important aspect of many people s lives. Results of the latest national census
have revealed the religiously diverse nation that Australia has become (ABS 2017). The religious
makeup of Australia has gradually changed over the past 50 years with Hinduism, Sikhism, Islam and
Buddhism all increasingly common beliefs as can be seen in figure 1.
Religious discrimination is defined as the unfavourable treatment of a person because of his or her
religious beliefs. Furthermore, this extends to involve mistreatment of someone due to their marriage
to or association with an individual of a particular religion (EOC 2014; pers. comm. Cooper 2017).
Whilst Australia s religious diversity begins to grow so too does the concern of the reported incidents
of religious discrimination impacting the lives of people of many different religions in Australia. It is
important to understand the impact this discrimination has in order to address the issue.
The Effect of Religious Discrimination in Australia
A decade long national study conducted by the University of Western Sydney found that nearly half of
Australians describe themselves as having anti Muslim attitudes (Veiszadeh 2015). Islamophobia and
alike attitudes can have deeply hurtful effects and create considerable fear within religious
communities. It also may serve to erect barriers between different religious communities in Australia.
As Randa Abdel Fattah said in her winning Victorian Premier s Literary

Cullen s Incident
The poem, Incident is a part of Cullen s book called Color , which clearly portrays the racism shown
among the blacks, even among the children. The transition from innocence to experience may also be
seen in the poem My Last Duchess by Robert Browning. It starts off with the innocence of a young
child most likely riding on a subway who makes eye contact with another young boy on the same car.
Though neither is described to be older or smaller than the other boy. Cullen goes on to say that from
May until December of all the things that had happened, this incident was the only thing he could
remember. The tone in the poem quickly goes from a highly optimistic attitude of the boy towards the
city then turns to a depressing tone a because of that one word. The poet clearly explains that racism is
painful and no matter at what age you may have to face it, it leaves a scar in their minds for a lifetime.
When the word which is quoted is uttered by the other boy a separation is brought upon that people of
that time couldn t look past. Their first judgments of another person came from their first look and the
impression they are able to conceive at that moment. This impression in most cases during the time
was very prejudiced. In My Last Duchess Browning describes the Duke of Ferrara who is trying to
negotiate with a servant for the hand of the count s daughter in marriage. During the negotiations the
Duke is taking the servant for a tour into his own private art gallery to

a complex system of ropes and drums that might be considered to be a means of deciding which parts
of the mechanism performed which actions and when.[8] This is the essence of programmability.
Around the end of the 10th century, the French monk Gerbert d Aurillac brought back from Spain the
drawings of a machine invented by the Moors that answered either Yes or No to the questions it was

In 1642, the Renaissance saw the invention of the mechanical calculator,[11] a device that could
perform all four arithmetic operations without relying on human intelligence.[12] The mechanical
calculator was at the root of the development of computers in two separate ways. Initially, it was in
trying to develop more powerful and more flexible calculators[13]

Essay on Greek Hospitality in The Odyssey
Greek Hospitality in The Odyssey The Greeks have been known for their hospitality and politeness,
especially when treating guests whether strangers or not. This is demonstrated near the beginning of
the Odyssey when Telemachus went to Pylos to visit Nestor. Nestor, not knowing who he was taking
into his home as guests, treated them with great honor and respect. Now is the time, he said, for a few
questions, now that our young guests have enjoyed their dinner. Who are you, strangers? Where are
you sailing from, and where to, down the highways of sea water (p 299)? If ever Greeks were to serve
themselves before their guests or even a little better than them, then they were breaking the most basic
of all Greek customs, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The girls washed, fed, and clothed him. Impressed with his manliness, Nausicca told him how to get
into town and appeal to her mother for even greater hospitality. Queen Arete and King Alcinous gave
Odysseus the best of what they had and showed him great hospitality. The King also offered his
daughter s hand in marriage, or if he desired, assistance in returning home. Nearest his throne the son
whom he loved best, Laodamas, had long held place; now the king bade him rise and gave his shining
chair to Lord Odysseus. A serving maid poured water for his havds from a gold pitcher into a silver
bowl, and spead a polished table at his side; the mistress of provisions came with bread and other
victuals, generous with her store. So lord Odysseus drank, and tasted supper (p 356). The next day
Alcinous also ordered a feast and an athletic contest to be held in honor of the stranger. If Odysseus
did not receive the courtesy that the people of Scheria showed to him while he was at Scheria, there
would have been a good chance for him not being able to make it back to his family and kingdom.
Odysseus was deceived a number of times by his assumption that he and his crew would be cared for
with the same Greek hospitality and kindness they were accustomed to. One such example was when
Odysseus landed on the island of Kyclops. After landing, Odysseus and twelve of his shipmates went
into Kyclop s lair, expecting to

Succession Planning Research Paper
Succession planning is one of the most important career development tools used by organizations.
This is done to determine the backups for each senior position by identifying and training the
executives who are at the next lower levels. Succession planning is not always the easiest process.
There are barriers that are affiliated with this process. The most challenging succession planning
barrier that I foresee is choosing the successor. There are many talented qualified people in
organizations today, the hardest part is weeding through all candidates and finding the best successor
to replace the best person already in the role. This challenge is present in informal and formal
succession planning. The best strategy to mitigate selecting the best possible candidate is to come up
with a panel that can make decisions. This panel should consist of a representative of HR, a
representative of the board of directors, and the candidate of the succeeding position if applicable.

Nutrition Is Essential For Children s Health
The term Standard American Diet refers to a diet, which is:
High in animal fats
High in unhealthy fats
Low in fiber
High in processed foods
Low in complex carbohydrates
Low in plant based foods
It is a little bit different for children as their diet may not consist of so much meat and animal fats, but
it is definitely very high in processed foods, and low in fiber as well as in fruits and vegetables.
The standard American died has extremely serious consequences on our current and future
generations. What children eat during their younger years is negatively affecting their health and
setting them up for health concerns and chronic diseases later in life.
The paradox in the United States is that our children are being overfed and undernourished at the same
time. Proper nutrition is essential to children s health. According to the Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention, in 2012 more than one third of children and adolescents aged 6 to 19 were considered
overweight or obese (1).
Most of obese children suffer from the emotional consequences, such as poor body image and low self
esteem.
And still, nowadays, many children s diets lack good healthy nutritious choices. More than 90% of
children aged 4 to 18 don t meet recommendations for vegetable intake, and more than 75% don t
meet guidelines for fruit intake. Moreover, more than 90% of children consume more than the
recommended amounts of solid fats and added sugars (2).

The Common Core State Standards Asking Too Much Of...
Are the Common Core State Standards Asking Too Much of Elementary Children?
When many people think of elementary education, they think of reading small passages and learning
the difference between addition and subtraction in easy, creative ways. Now, with the new Common
Core State Standards implemented, today s kids will have more things to worry about. They are asked
more challenging questions and expected to have more rigorous answers. This does not set a steady
learning pace for the average child. In 2009, many states adopted a new schooling standard called the
Common Core State Standards. These are a set of popular K 12 standards in English Language Arts
and Mathematics with future standards in other subjects like Social Studies. They were created for the
poor quality of content (Polikoff) standards and to ensure that every student will learn the same things
at the same pace. Researchers claim that the standards are better than the current state standards,
raising the expectations of performance for students. Although Common Core is supposed to be higher
quality, there are many challenges it would face such as technology upgrades, content coverage,
computer scoring, etc. Before the Common Core State Standards, each state set its own standards
similar to one another. With Common Core Standards, every state will have the same standards to base
student performance off of. Another reason these new standards were put into place is to ensure that
America will be able to

Discourses of Conformity in One Flew over the Cuckoo’s...
Throughout the novel One Flew over the Cuckoo s Nest written by Ken Kesey, and the poem Advice
to Young Ladies crafted by A.D. Hope, there is evidence to suggest that the discourses represented by
the characters in the novel and poem unveil the ways discourses of conformity underpin the characters
actions, perceptions and motives, as well as inviting and silencing beliefs, attitudes and values. The
author and poet are able to strongly convey their beliefs to the reader from their personal experiences.
The four dominant discourses that both the novel and poem share and represents: conformity,
sexuality and religious. These will be analysed and compared.

Kesey uses several symbolic references that lead the readers to believe that McMurphy symbolised
Christ to the men in the hospital. These extracts examplify how McMurphy develops as a Christ
figure. The novel depicts how the religious discourse positions and privileges the character.
The poem, Advice to Young Ladies , crafted by A.D. Hope, does contain similar dominant discourse
of conformity in Kesey s novel. Although it foregrounds a particular viewpoint similar to the one
presented in Kesey s novel, the representations of religious and sexuality supports the conformity
discourse. Postumia is not conformed to the Vestal Virgin as she is thought to talk too witty for her
age. This can be demonstrated by: Too witty for a young girl, her eyes, her walk. Too lively, her
clothes too smart to be demure. (Line 7 8) The poet positions readers to see Postumia s smartness as a
threat for men and her life being torn from her. A religious discourse can be used to explain this
phenomenon. Hope portrays to the reader is that back then, men were superior and women were made
invisible. Females did not have the right to use intelligence or even the right to express themselves.
Hope portrays that men were superior then women. Females did not have the right to use intelligence

Gregorian Era
In the Middle Ages from 450 AD to 1450,AD nearly a thousand years begin the birth of Western
music and the arts. Unlike the music and arts from other eras the culture of arts and music was
enormously sacred and closed minded where only the wise could be involved with those. Even the
rich and the noble were unable to reach, but only the wise and educated ones were the only ones to
pursue. Therefore, most music during the medieval was in voice; although instruments were present,

The Persuaders Rhetorical Analysis
When I was a kid in school, I was told that there were the basic things that you needed like clothes and
food and there were the things that you maybe want but don t really need. Advertisements do not have
any effects on what we need. We don t watch and add about how we need to eat food to stay alive; we
have hunger for that. However, Advertisements greatly affect what we want. Do we want basic cereal
or the fancy kind that athletes promote, or can we live with a plain shirt or do we want the one with a
guy riding a horse emblem? These want that stray away from our basic needs are all driven by
advertisement. No one is born wanting a Gucci shirt, they are taught and conditioned to want one. The
Frontline documentary, The Persuaders , delves into the world of advertisement in order to explore
different aspects of the industry that drives our desire. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After watching the film it is evident that the interaction between advertisements and consumers is
similar to the interactions between media and audiences. This is because advertisement is inherently a
form of media, but instead of trying to interaction the audience, it propagates a propaganda for a
specific item. You can look at the theories about mass media consumption and apply it to
advertisements. For example, in the dawn of mass media it was thought that the hypodermic needle
theory, or magic bullet theory, was how audiences reacted to the media. This theory stated that when
an audience consumed a certain facet of media like a radio talk show, the media content would be
directly injected into the audience. Therefore, the audience would automatically respond to the stimuli.
In this way the first advertisements were just information that stated that something was better than
another product in the hope that, like an injection, the information would cause the audience to go out
and buy their

Union Pacific Case Study for Strategic Alternatives Essay...
Union Pacific: A Case Study for Strategic Alternatives PART 1: INTRODUCTION Union Pacific
Railroad Company (UNP) is one of the four major railroad companies that transports a variety of
goods across North America and is an American staple of industriousness and endurance. Union
Pacific with its workforce of 43,000 highly trained people has been in operation since 1862, and its
span of operation stretches from Western to Southern United States and internationally into Western
Canada and Northern Mexico. The American Association of Railroads has classified Union Pacific as
part of the Class I Railroad Group, which consists of seven other railroad companies but Union Pacific

One reason is the high capital investment for the development of railroad infrastructures and
technologies. Consider this, between 1980 and 2009 Class I railroads spent $460 billion on
infrastructure, equipment maintenance, and upgrades (Hitt et al. 2011, p. 387). In addition, new rails
and routes must be coordinated and integrated into a complex and congested system that is owned and
operated by well established companies. Although there is a clear and formidable barrier into the
industry, railroads are not without competition. In addition to the fierce rivalry with the railroad
companies within its strategic group, UNP must also compete with the trucking industry. Union
Pacific and the rail industry saw a surge in business in 2007 compared to other modes of
transportation due to the rising cost of fuel (diesel, jet, and gasoline) and an increase in environmental
awareness. This rise and fall of fuel prices have presented both opportunities and challenges for UNP.
The trucking industry poses a legitimate threat to the rail industry in terms of freight transportation
because of accessibility and logistical versatility. The free wheeling trucking industry is not subjected
to the heavy regulations that the rail industry must face. Trucks are not restricted by complicated rail
networks and benefit from the use of roads and highways that are federally and state funded. Whereas
UNP and other rail companies must subsidize

UND Solar Project Analysis
As concerned citizens at University of North Dakota me and my group addressed a money saving
solution to the president, presenting problems the school faces nowadays. Our purpose of the grant
proposal, UND Solar Project: Saving Money Through Investing in Solar was to make a plan
implementing and installing 1,000 solar panels at UND in order to save up money in the future. The
project is accurate, because University of North Dakota faces numerous budget cuts and so the school
needs a change in its spending and budget. Budget cuts and spending on logo which does not seem
that important to do currently, makes students losing their sympathy to the school. Since us students
are getting disappointed with the school, the tone of the grant proposal is based on these upsetting
feelings that we have. Budget cuts are evident here three more athletic programs have just been cut.
Although this cut will take a toll on the budget deficit situation the University is currently
encountering, it will not fix the debt we are facing. Taking a look at the money spent on powering this
college is quite eye opening to say the least. This is by no means a small campus . Granted there are
bigger campuses, some three times the size of this one, but this does not dull the fact that the

spending 300,000 dollars. The purpose is to make profit after the 2nd year of installation. Every usable

Changes That Affect the Economic Environment in Business
Introduction
For this task I shall explain the changes in the economic environment on the business. This may
include changes within the following,
Business cycle
Inflation
Unemployment
International trade
The business that that I will be looking at is Whitbread who own Premier Inn and Costa coffee. I will
be explaining within this task how the above may affect Whitbread and its two companies Costa and
Premier inn whether it is for the better or worse.
Business cycle
When looking at a graph of a business cycle we can expect to see increases and falls in production,
income and expenditure of a company over time. The economy of the U.K, moves from boom to
recession over time and these changes within the economy have major ... Show more content on

This will also affect trade as If the UK has higher inflation than competitor countries (which it isn t
now, but it has been for a lot of the last few decades) then UK prices gradually rise above imported
prices. More imports are bought, so demand leaks out of the country and leaves UK businesses in a
weak position such as Premier inn and Costa Coffee so overall inflation is not a good thing if it does
occur and will have a negative effect on Whitbread s businesses.
Unemployment
High unemployment rates especially within the countries that Whitbread operate their businesses,
Costs and Premier inn can have a great effect on business operations as high unemployment will mean
that more people will be relying on benefits for survival and as a result will be spending less, this
would in turn affect businesses such as Premier inn and costa coffee as no one will be using their
products and services which will then effect profits which would mean that they would have to halt
growth and cut staff which are all negative factors as a result. This means when Whitbread are
planning on expanding within different countries they will carefully have to look at these factors.
Since consumers have lower confidence in the strength of the economy and less to spend, demand for
products and services drops, and

Caffeine Argument Analysis
In the world of health one well known controversy is whether or not caffeine is good for you or if it
has any nutritional value. On the pro side of the argument, many doctors have performed new studies
showing that caffeine has a lot of positive effects on our health such as reducing the risk of skin cancer
which was confirmed in an experiment done by Erikka Loftfield MPH. Based on my research I ve
found that studies also show that caffeine has been shown to enhance both physical and cognitive
performance in younger adults , as stated by M. J. Duncan in a study done in 2014. Sheena Derry s
studies from the University of Oxford show us that caffeine is a great remedy for pain relief and
migraines. Registered dietician Keri Glassman stated in an interview that caffeine can help prevent
well known diseases such as diabetes and Parkinson s. And lastly, in an article written by Sara Altshul
claims have been made that based on a study done in July 2015, caffeine can help improve your
memory. On the con side of the argument many doctors and journalists ... Show more content on

The Deaf in Society Essay
The Deaf Community
Imagine if you could never experience the sound of your favorite song on the radio. Or you could
never hear the voice of a family member wishing you happy birthday. Since these situations are
typical we may take them for granted. But these every day scenarios will never be part of a deaf
person s life. One out of thousand infants will be born deaf every year, (Deaf Understanding). Most
people don t realize the giant impact of the deaf in our society. Deaf persons can be any race, gender
and position in society. They can be scientists, doctors, or many other professions. Since the
occurrence of deafness is so high in our society we all must learn how to communicate affectivity with
the deaf community. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the National Association of the Deaf, individuals who can t hear would rather be called
either deaf or hard of hearing, (Deaf Net). The term hearing impaired are sometimes offensive to deaf
individuals because it focuses on what they aren t able to do. It is important to understand if you agree
with either pathological or cultural views so you can communicate with the deaf community
affectively.
Another reason why everyone should be respectful and patient with the deaf community is because
they might join it one day. In some cases individuals may lose their sense of hearing due to accidents
or medical conditions. Also, individuals may one day be faced with having a child who is deaf. 93
percent of deaf children are born into hearing families and only 7 percent are born into deaf families,
(NAD). These statistics prove that no one is exempt to the possibility of having a child who is deaf.
Therefore, we must all be helpful, respectful and patient. We should never exclude anyone due to their
differences.
There are many ways to increase your ability to communicate with the deaf community. Obviously,
learning Sign Language is a very important factor in interacting with deaf individuals. Each country s
deaf community develops its own Sign Language. For example American Sign Language is a different
language then South African Sign Language. This means they use different signs to express the

Threats of New Entrants
The barrier of entry is medium since there are competing companies. For example, Amazon s Kindle
Fire versus Apple iPad (Zimmerman 2010). The threat of new entrants is medium to low, since new
companies are gradually getting into the online business. For example, in December, 2011, eBay made
revenues of about $3.38 billion, which is about 19.3% of Amazon s revenue.
2. Bargaining Power of Suppliers:
The bargaining power of the suppliers is very low since there are many suppliers who are willing to
sell their goods online using Amazon.com. The goods are usually sold to a third party, and suppliers
are paid quickly.
3. Threats of substitutes:
The threat of substitutes is very low, because of innovative services that improve the quality of goods
within a short period of time. There is also high brand recognition for the company that makes it
difficult to substitute their products. In addition, there is high customer satisfaction since they get
quality goods from the company. The company also offers well recognized and trusted services.
Lastly, this makes the threat of substitution very low.
4. Rivalry among industry competitors:
There is stiff competition among the retail companies. The competition between Amazon and Wal
Mart is very stiff, since both companies are using almost the same methods to remain leaders in the
retail industry. Both companies are using an online mechanism to sell their products, as well

Gandhi Obstacles
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, a historic leader of Indian nationalism, was one of the greatest
national leaders of the twentieth century. Rosenberg (2012) stated Gandhi was born in Porbandar,
India, on October 2, 1869 (Biography of Mahatma Gandhi). His family came from the traditional caste
of grocers and moneylenders (the name Gandhi means grocer ). His father was the dewan (chief
minister) of Porbandar, and his mother was an adherent of a religion in which ideas of nonviolence
and vegetarianism were paramount. Gandhi expressed that she had a big influence on him, cataloging
her life as an endless chain of fasts and vows. According to Rosenberg (2014) As a child, Gandhi

The use of only non violent methods in the pursuit of justice is not as simple as it sounds. Gandhi s
basic challenge, first of all was to himself, to exercise strong self discipline. He did it in many ways.
He dressed very simply, and shaved his head. He did not attend any concerts or the theatre. Each week
for one whole day he would refrain from speaking. He also did physical work a couple of hours every
day. His more serious challenges began when he was set to work in South Africa, where he was
discriminated against for being an Indian immigrant. For example, Gandhi was on a trip where he was
seated in the first class compartment, as he had purchased a first class ticket. According to Bisht
(2010): A White person who entered the compartment was upset that Gandhi was in first class and
immediately summoned the White railway officials. They ordered Gandhi to remove himself and go to
the van compartment, since coolies (a racist term for Indians) and non whites were not permitted in
first class compartments. Gandhi protested and produced his ticket, but was warned that he would be
forcibly removed if he did not make a gracious exit. As Gandhi refused to comply with the order, a
White police officer pushed him out of the train, and his luggage was tossed out onto the platform.
During his train journey he had to endure beatings and mistreatment from whites for his refusal to
comply with their unfair orders (Mahatma Gandhi s Freedom Struggle and the Railways). He
overcame racism by not letting it break him or his drive, but more obstacles were to appear in his

Reflection Of A Speech At The Middles Of Speech
When I was waiting to perform at my first speech competition I realized that I couldn t breath. It was

almost as if I had been sucked into space. I half expected myself to become weightless and float

front of a dozen other people. I was the center of attention, and I hated every second of it. I was
debating whether or not I should just turn around and sprint out the door, but before I could make a
decision the lady in the front desk smiled at me and said something along the lines of ready whenever

the second being how did I end up here? Unfortunately I didn t have time to answer that question
because at that moment I had to do the hardest thing in front of my life: performing and speaking in
front of others.
When I entered that classroom I knew that I was going to end up having a nervous breakdown in the
middle of my performance, but I didn t expect the tears. I reached a point in my speech where I just
suddenly stopped talking. I couldn t take the panic and fear anymore, so tears started to fall. This
moment felt like it lasted a lifetime, and all I wanted to do was run out that door, but I knew that I had

Advantages Of Extensible Markup Language
Extensible Markup Language (XML)
1.1 Introduction
What is the Extensible Markup Language (XML)? Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a subset of
the Standard Generalized Markup Language, which is a marker for an electronic document to have a
structured markup language.
In the computer, the mark symbol refers to information the computer can understand, by this token,
you can handle that contains a variety of information such as articles between computers. It can be

Theories Of Evolution
What is evolution? (Evolution is the process by which different kinds of living organisms are thought
to have developed and diversified from earlier forms during the history of the earth). Charles Darwin
was the original founder of evolution. There are many theories out there that scientist have came up
with and have come to believe through research on ancient organism remains, similarities of embryos,
fossil records, and chemical and Anatomical similarities. Ancient organisms, scientist say that
organisms that lived long ago that have modern day organisms that look just alike or very similar to
today s. Scientist say organisms have evolved and that why they didn t go extinct. For instance a

then realized that the fossils and the moderate day organisms remains didn t look alike and had
features that the other didn t have. Moderate day scientist have technology that they can date back
fossils and find out when the organism was alive. Similarities of living organisms, this is the belief
that organism came from one or two common organisms. A great example of this is houses, donkeys,
and zebras, they are all similar organisms that have almost the same body structure, but they live in
different parts of the world and have evolved and adapted to where they live so they can survive.
(Scientists can compare the DNA of two organisms; the more similar the DNA, the more closely
related the organisms). Similarities of embryos, an embryo is an unborn or unhatched child. Scientist
say that many organisms have similar characteristics (This shows that the animals are similar and that
they develop similarly, implying that they are related, have common ancestors and that they started out
the same, gradually evolving different traits, but that the basic plan for a creature s beginning remains
the same). A good example of this is a frog, a hippo, and a rabbit they have similar characteristics such
as frogs and rabbits both being able to jump and the frog and hippo being able to stay underwater for
long periods of time and all of them breath

Guidance Of Pressure Compressions
2.1.3. Guidance for obtaining accurate measurements
In practice, strain measurements are usually below a few millistrain. Therefore, the changes in
resistance need to be measured accurately.
Temperature coefficient of gauge factor is the change of sensitivity of the element to change its length
with change in temperature. A fixed resistance in the input leg can be introduced to compensate for it.
As a result, the effective supplied voltage increases when temperature increases. This compensates for
the decrease in sensitivity.
When more than one strain gauge are used, the temperature coefficient of gauge factor might be
different, there will be a zero shift with temperature. One or more resistors can be placed on the
compensation network ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

so that the position of each object point in the x, y and z axis can be calculated.
Thirdly, calculate the position of each object point in the images by applying a correlation algorithm

Fourthly, the tracked grey value pattern is the basis of the correlation algorithm. The pattern is

Analysis Of The Raid By Leo Tolstoy
While reading The Raid by Leo Tolstoy, one is instantly struck by the strong contrast between the
peaceful nature scenes and the violent battle scenes. One minute the sounds of crickets and frogs are
charmingly echoing through the night, and the next you can hear the clang of a heavy gun and the
sound of bayonets touching one another (Tolstoy 20). In one scene, the generals and majors stand
watching the gory battle below, yet they continue to discuss the beautiful nature around them as if
nothing else could possibly be worth their attention (Tolstoy 25). However, upon closer readings, it
becomes evident that the war and nature scenes are not as separate as they seem. As the story
progresses, the two begin to weave together, until distinguishing them is nearly impossible. Indeed,
this subtly merger can be seen throughout multiple scenes as the story evolves. From the start, nature
and war are both extremely prominent in the story. But, they are presented separately from each other.
The best example of this is on page thirteen. The sun had done half its journey, and cast its hot rays
through the glowing air onto the dry earth...the motionless air seemed full of transparent dust, the heat
was becoming unbearable (Tolstoy 13). This entire paragraph describes the nature all around the
marching soldiers. Then, it is followed by a separate paragraph: Half way on their march the troops
reached a small stream and halted. The soldiers stacked their muskets and rushed to the

Kayapo Way of Life
The Kayapo Indians live in the Amazon River Basin of Brazil with villages along the Xingu River.
Vanderbilt reports that their population in 2003 was 7,096. They inhabit over 28.4 million acres of the
Amazonian Rainforest. This land was received formally via land reserves from Brazil in the 1980 s
and 1990 s. The land is mostly tropical rainforest and grassland. The Kayapo live in balance with their
natural ecosystem. The indigenous people hunt, fish, and practice slash and burn agriculture.

Although the relationship between the Kayapo and The Body Shop has reportedly been strained, this

Additionally, I support the Kayapo s efforts to stop the construction of dams in the region. According
to Amazonwatch.org the Brazilian government is moving forward at any cost with plans to build the

Finally, the Brazilian government and the rest of the world must come to realize that the increasing
destruction of the rain forest threatens the delicate balance between humans, plants, and animals. The

parents who no longer drive. You have two siblings one who lives two (2) miles away, and one who
lives in another state. You have two (2) papers due in your classes the same week that one (1) of your
children has a soccer tournament, and the other child has a band concert. You are coaching the soccer

If my husband and myself can come up with a flexible schedule to where it ll both help myself and my
husband to where the kids will also still be able to attend there daily activities. Now when it comes to
having elderly parents that no longer drive would be a little difficult, but I would definitely try to have
one of my sisters help out when it comes to my parents because I feel the weight and everything I
have on my plate is entirely too much and it should be okay for the little family that I do have living
around me such as my sister to definitely help out when it comes to taking care of my parents along
with my kids, working two full time jobs and pursuing school all at the same time. My doctor is telling
my blood pressure is too high and what not but I would definitely ask my sister that lives a mile or so
away for help with the kids, and parents for sure. So overall here s my conclusion for the whole
situation: I would still continue to work both of my jobs to support my children and myself and also
continue with going to one face to face class the one day and of course attending the online class I
have as well. I would then ask my sister who only lives around the corner if there was any way she
could help when it comes to maybe taking the kids to their daily activities and also helping out with
taking care of our parents instead of just me doing everything alone. Then do all the homework and
papers that are all due at the same time finish up everything with the

European Imperialism Created a Rift with the World
European Imperialism created a rift within the world. European powers saw the use of Imperialism, as
well justified and a mean of spreading their influence and securing their strength. However the nations
which found themselves under rule of an imperialistic power did not share the Europeans view on the
favors they were giving. European nations saw themselves fit to divide the uncivilized world, almost
in a pie like manner, to be placed under their reign. With this came many mistreatments of indigenous
traditions and the people themselves. King Leopold the Second s imperialistic claim on the Congo,
and the European attempts at controlling China both exemplify the disaster of Imperialism on the
human condition, and the resistance created by the people.
Both Africa and Qing China saw itself under the hungry eye of European powers. Meeting and
arrangements were created, without the native s knowledge, by European power to subdivide and
subjugate these lands for their own purposes, disregarding what the people of these lands desired.
Despotism is a legitimate mode of government in dealing with barbarians, provided the end be their
improvement. (King Leopolds Ghost, 2) The European powers present at the Berlin Conference of
1884, all saw themselves as a higher state of society, one that possessed a god granted right to control
the lands and the people of the less civilized nations. King Leopold himself saw to obtain as much
land as he pleased by manipulating the other

Classification of Contracts
Contracts Not all contracts are equal to buyers and sellers. Rather, there are contracts that tend to be
more beneficial to one party or the other. This is especially the case when dealing with contracts
between private businesses and the government. The two most common contracts for these two groups
are fixed price and cost reimbursement contracts (45 Wayne L. Rev.). While both contracts ensure that
parties are properly compensated for work, each differentiates certain circumstances that are either
more or less beneficial to one side in an agreement. This paper will discuss the advantages and
disadvantages of the fixed price, cost reimbursement, and labor hour contracts in light of both private
contractors and government agencies. Fixed price contracts are the first category of contracts typically
used by government agencies when seeking bids for jobs. This type of contract sets a specific budget
for a project and seeks bidders who are willing to come the closest to this set amount. This contract, in
most circumstances, is considered to be less beneficial to contractors. The advantages for contractors
with these jobs are that the contract documents the budget and time frame before signing onto the
project and when done properly, a contractor can earn a profit from this type of contract (Arye 2000).
However, should the cost of supplies be unexpectedly high or there by unexpected delays and
setbacks, the job may need to be completed at a loss. This is the most common

Preschool Transition Research Paper
Many children attend both three and four year old preschool. If you plan on switching to a new
preschool for next school year, make sure you spend some time preparing for the transition. If you
allow your child to saw goodbye to their old school friends, and allow them time to adjust to their new
preschool, this transition will be a lot easier.
Inform Your Child s Current Preschool They Will Not Be Coming Back
Let your child s teachers know that your child will be attending a different preschool in the fall. Ask
your child s current teacher if they can provide you with information about your child s social
emotional development as well as your child s academic development. Many preschools use a rubric
to measure student s social and academic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although you are the ultimate expert on your child, your child s teacher may be able to offer insight
into their learning abilities and social development in large group settings that you may not know.
Let Your Child Know They Will Be Attending A New School
If your child goes to a preschool that follows the local academic calendar, inform your child as the end
of the school year approaches that they need to say good bye to all of their friends because they will
be going to a new preschool in the fall. As the end of school year celebrations approach, make sure
you celebrate your child s accomplishments and discuss that they will get to go to a new preschool
next fall.
If your child goes to a year round preschool, you can count down the days that your child has left at
their old preschool before they transition to their new preschool. You may want to talk to the staff and
see if your child can bring in a special treat for the their class on their last day. This will give your
child a chance to say goodbye to all their

Solar Energy Is The Best Type Of Energy
When you close your eyes and think of solar energy, what do you see? Your response is most likely
something positive such as an innovative, efficient, and renewable step forward into the future. Solar
is also thought of to be the best type of energy because the sun will never go away. Well, solar energy
will have to battle it out with natural gas and oil in the near future. As the price of oil and natural gas
continues to drop, solar energy looks less desirable as other sources become more affordable in the
short term (Sanburn 38). Josh Sanburn, author for Time Magazine, does have a relevant point while
discussing solar energy s competitors. The handful of solar energy s positives makes it easy for the
green thumbed consumers of today to overlook the many negatives. The negatives are very important
though when on the topic of something that could possibly determine the future of the whole world s
energy productivity. The number one issue with the continuation of solar energy is the price. The main
solar energy companies try to sell their panels by repetitively saying that the panels will save money in
the long run. Yet solar energy was the most costly energy source for kW/hr in 2015. The rooftop solar
craze is wasting billions of dollars a year that could be spent on greener initiatives. It also is hindering
the growth of much more cost effective renewable sources of power. Solar energy is able to stay
relevant because of the large amount of subsidies placed by the

Impact Of Digital Media On Cinema
It is obvious that technological convergence leads to the changes in media production and distribution
(Bolin 2007; Tryon 2009; Dixon Foster 2011). These changes can be observed through the ways films
are promoted and exhibited have also been affected by the use of digital media. The following sections
will provide a detail analysis of these changes.
Tryon (2009) examines the transformation of cinema to the digital form. The proliferation of new
portable technologies sparked the debates about the changes in the film industry. On the one hand,
there are concerns that digital media and home entertainment systems threaten the future of cinema, as
they provide viewers more choices and flexibility in watching movies. On the other hand, media ...

The first thing to consider is the formats of movies. Digital formats have gradually replaced the film
for many reasons: space efficient, inexpensive, immediate and unlimited (Pavlik McIntosh 2014, pp.
223 224). This is because physical films not only cost more but are also inconvenient to print, deliver
and preserve. Meanwhile, the transfer of data by using digital tools is extremely fast and easy, whether
through a computer or via satellite. For example, traditional types of film reels, such as the 35mm or
70mm, have given place for high capacity hard drives (Dixon Foster 2011, p. 22). Pavlik McIntosh
(2014) also emphasize that while the digital data still need to be kept in a physical storage, it is still far
more space saving than that needed by an analog form. Furthermore, it is totally free to duplicate the
digital movies and send them to distributors.
The movie industry, along with other mass media industries, has become more democratized and
fragmented due to the use of digital technology. While the market is still dominated by a few giants,
there are more spaces for smaller players. Retailers like Netflix or Amazon have paved the way for
niche products to be consumed. This is what academics refer to as the long tail, which is the main
focus of Chris Anderson s 2006 book. According to Anderson, our culture has long been obsessed with
a small number of hits popular contents made by powerful companies.

  • 2. The Inclusion Of Special Educational Needs The inclusion of special educational needs (SEN) students into mainstream schools is a key issue across England. The Education for All Handicapped Children Act (Public Law 94 142) states that all handicapped children [have] the right to a free appropriate public education. However, there has been much debate concerning which approaches have a more active influence on the efficacy of inclusion. This essay will aim to investigate how practical and successful inclusion techniques are within a community whilst underlying both the advantages and disadvantages that inclusion may generate. The terminology associated with this discussion is one of the main factors contributing to ineffective inclusion. What does it mean to be included? When is the inclusion complete? What is successful inclusion? How can one achieve the inclusion of all children? These questions are too open and cannot be resolved without a sole and concise explanation. The term [inclusion] itself connotes a multiplicity of meanings (Murphy, 1996, p. 471) and as there is very little literature stating what is meant by inclusion in one concise definition, it constitutes great controversy within the matter. Therefore, the inclusion of SEN pupils within schools across England has not always been successful. Despite there being much interpretation to the terminology, integral aspects of the process can be neglected and may result in segregation still existing within some schools. This issue may be resolved by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Lean Production And Production Of Vehicles Lean production of vehicles was started in Japan by Toyota company. It has some similarities with the mass production; however, it is quite different from the craft production. One of the main similarities that the lean production shares with the mass production is that they both use the assembly line for the production of the vehicles, which was initiated by Ford. Unlike, mass production: Ohno placed a cord above every work station and instructed worker to stop the whole assembly line immediately if a problem emerged that they couldn t fix (56). In the mass production, if the problem occurred, and no one paid attention to it while the production process, then the car company had to fix the errors in all the vehicles that had been produced no matter how large the quantity was. In the lean production of vehicles: Ohno instead instituted a system of problem solving called the five why s (56). Taiichi Ohno, the founder of Toyota company, made sure that once the problem has been identified in the production process, then what kind of precautions company can take to prevent the problem, so it never occurs again, which saved a lot of time compared to mass production. One similarity that lean production has with the craft production is that the vehicles were not produced on a larger scale, rather they were diverse small vehicles, such as trucks and cars. In the mass production, changing the die cut process took months; however, in the lean production process reduced ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Civil War And The 19th Century Essay The 19th century was one of the most troubling times in human history. Things like the civil war, child labor and even slavery helped shape the literary culture from 1850 1900. The civil war was a war fought between the Northern and Southern States in the United States of America. Among the 34 states in January 1861, seven Southern slave states individually declared their secession from the United States of America and formed the Confederate States of America. The first state to secede was south carolina after the election of president lincoln in 1860. After South Carolina seceded, the cotton states of Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas followed, seceding in January and February 1861. Union and Confederate leadership and fighting soldiers on both sides believed that slavery caused the Civil War. Union men mainly believed the war was to emancipate the slaves. Confederates fought to protect southern society, and slavery as a part of it. Sectionalism refers to the different economies, social structure, culture and customs and values of the North and South. While the south based their economy off of slave labor and plantation agriculture, the North was urbanizing, industrializing and had feigned slavery out of existence. Southern slaveholding states, because of their low cost labor, had little need for industrialization. While the North highly invested in its industrialization, could not compete with the industries of Europe in offering high prices ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Analysis Of The Movie Kane Monroe KANE MONROE presents with a very intriguing blend of story types. It blends an old fashion western revenge story with fantasy and action. The goal is clear and the stakes are high. It s a story that easily engages. The audience effortlessly roots for Kane Monroe. The setting feels authentic to the time period and to the culture. The characters are likable and seem to be castable, especially Kane. The action sequences are nicely crafted. The script offers a three act structure. The first act establishes that Kane has visions of past lives, but in all his lives he encounters one villain. The inciting event is when he sees a wanted poster that looks like his nemesis. Perhaps it s because there isn t one consistent backstory regarding William that the audience can follow. If the past lives element is important, the story might work more appropriately if the fantasy element were more developed and one could fully understand the love story and the rival between William and Luther. Instead of the idea that Kane has lived multiple past lives, perhaps consider the idea that he has just lived one. In fact, the script doesn t really show his other lives in detail. There s a vision of being a Japanese Samurai, but it s very short lived and no real story is developed and Luther/Moss isn t in that fantasy. Thus, the rules of the world need to be clarified. The audience is told he lives other lives, but with one consistent nemesis, but the story doesn t follow through on this. The other alternative is to just create an old fashioned western revenge story, but to make it more unique by having Kane trained in the art of martial arts and sword fighting (similar to Kung Fu TV series). There are features of the script not well understood and would benefit from more development. The sequences involving Lillian are a bit confusing. Is she working with Moss? Why were the bandits after Kane? What might not be clear is if Moss has ordered his men to find Kane and/or when Moss realizes Kane is on his trail. This should be clarified. The other area of the script that becomes perplexing is Traveling Bear and Running Flower. When they are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Bartleby, The Hero in Herman Melville s short Story Bartleby the Scrivener In Herman Melville s short story Bartleby the Scrivener, Bartleby is the hero. The reasons as to why Bartleby is considered the hero of the story are that first, the character refuses to write in his job in the law office. He even starves himself to death by refusing to eat, but in the end, the spirit of Bartleby still remains alive and haunts the narrator. This aspect of Bartleby s heroism affects the story by developing a new theme to the story and developing the character of the narrator who is part of the story as the boss to Bartleby. It develops the theme of association between chronometrical time and the world of the spirits. It also changes the character of the narrator because he develops a new attitude towards time, and the world of spirits, which changes his normal way of belief. The narrator of the story becomes shocked when he discovers that Bartleby, who only feeds on ginger nuts, has never left the office. This is actually the first time that the narrator experiences the spiritual power that Bartleby possesses. The narrator is so much business oriented that he only looks at the world in terms of profits. However, when he encounters this aspect of the spirit of Bartleby, his attitude towards life changes. He begins appreciating the fact that Bartleby deserves better treatment, not in the capitalist way. The narrator even sees what is a right, just as an asset, but this perception is later changed by Bartleby s spirit: What earthly right have you to stay here? Do you pay any rent? Do you pay my taxes? Or is this property yours? (Melville, 41). The perception of the narrator, of everything including rights of Bartleby as assets prevents the narrator from understanding the spiritual aspect of the pride in Bartleby. Although the narrator ... • 9. Advantages Of Brakes CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 INTRODUCTION TO BRAKES Brakes are mechanical devices that increase the frictional resistance that retards the turning motion that is supplied to the wheels of the vehicle. In a vacuum assisted hydraulic brake system, a constant vacuum is kept maintained in the brake booster using the engine. When the brake pedal is pushed down, a poppet valve opens and air pushes/rushes into the pressure chamber on the driver s side of the booster. In a vacuum braking system, vacuum is used for the application of brakes. About half of Hispanics in the U.S. (52%) say they have experienced discrimination or have been treated unfairly because of their race or ethnicity , according to a newly released Pew Research Center Survey on race in America. For example, I was working at Food 4 Less helping Spanish speaking customers when I was only able to speak English to them. • 12. Essay On Book Banning Book banning first became prevalent in America in the early to mid nineteenth century. It was a way to stop content that had been labeled sensitive or harmful from reaching its intended audience. The first noted public challenge was Charles Darwin s On the Origin of the Species which included a description of his theory that humans and other creatures could have evolved without the guiding hand of a divine power, threatening many religious beliefs at that time. This led to the book being banned in several states, including Connecticut and Tennessee. Over the next few decades, many books would be challenged and banned; there would be protests and several court cases that make it to a national level. Today, very few books are actually banned, however a great many are challenged for their content that adults find too explicit or sensitive for their children. This past week was Banned Books Week, a time where many Americans come together to read and discuss the topic of banned books, why they were banned, and if it was really necessary. Banning books only started because adults wanted to keep young, impressionable minds away from opinions that did not match theirs. On the Origin of the Species was only banned because it questioned the possibility of a God in a mostly Catholic society. To Kill A Mockingbird was originally banned because it addressed racial problems in a society that was fighting for equality for all races. Literature like these works have come to the people in ... • 13. The Effects Of Religious Discrimination In Australia Religious beliefs are an important aspect of many people s lives. Results of the latest national census have revealed the religiously diverse nation that Australia has become (ABS 2017). The religious makeup of Australia has gradually changed over the past 50 years with Hinduism, Sikhism, Islam and Buddhism all increasingly common beliefs as can be seen in figure 1. Religious discrimination is defined as the unfavourable treatment of a person because of his or her religious beliefs. Furthermore, this extends to involve mistreatment of someone due to their marriage to or association with an individual of a particular religion (EOC 2014; pers. comm. Cooper 2017). Whilst Australia s religious diversity begins to grow so too does the concern of the reported incidents of religious discrimination impacting the lives of people of many different religions in Australia. It is important to understand the impact this discrimination has in order to address the issue. The Effect of Religious Discrimination in Australia A decade long national study conducted by the University of Western Sydney found that nearly half of Australians describe themselves as having anti Muslim attitudes (Veiszadeh 2015). Islamophobia and alike attitudes can have deeply hurtful effects and create considerable fear within religious communities. It also may serve to erect barriers between different religious communities in Australia. As Randa Abdel Fattah said in her winning Victorian Premier s Literary ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Cullen s Incident The poem, Incident is a part of Cullen s book called Color , which clearly portrays the racism shown among the blacks, even among the children. The transition from innocence to experience may also be seen in the poem My Last Duchess by Robert Browning. It starts off with the innocence of a young child most likely riding on a subway who makes eye contact with another young boy on the same car. Though neither is described to be older or smaller than the other boy. Cullen goes on to say that from May until December of all the things that had happened, this incident was the only thing he could remember. The tone in the poem quickly goes from a highly optimistic attitude of the boy towards the city then turns to a depressing tone a because of that one word. The poet clearly explains that racism is painful and no matter at what age you may have to face it, it leaves a scar in their minds for a lifetime. When the word which is quoted is uttered by the other boy a separation is brought upon that people of that time couldn t look past. Their first judgments of another person came from their first look and the impression they are able to conceive at that moment. This impression in most cases during the time was very prejudiced. In My Last Duchess Browning describes the Duke of Ferrara who is trying to negotiate with a servant for the hand of the count s daughter in marriage. The King also offered his daughter s hand in marriage, or if he desired, assistance in returning home. Nearest his throne the son whom he loved best, Laodamas, had long held place; now the king bade him rise and gave his shining chair to Lord Odysseus. A serving maid poured water for his havds from a gold pitcher into a silver bowl, and spead a polished table at his side; the mistress of provisions came with bread and other victuals, generous with her store. If Odysseus did not receive the courtesy that the people of Scheria showed to him while he was at Scheria, there would have been a good chance for him not being able to make it back to his family and kingdom. This is done to determine the backups for each senior position by identifying and training the executives who are at the next lower levels. Succession planning is not always the easiest process. There are many talented qualified people in organizations today, the hardest part is weeding through all candidates and finding the best successor to replace the best person already in the role. When many people think of elementary education, they think of reading small passages and learning the difference between addition and subtraction in easy, creative ways. Now, with the new Common Core State Standards implemented, today s kids will have more things to worry about. They are asked more challenging questions and expected to have more rigorous answers. This does not set a steady learning pace for the average child. In 2009, many states adopted a new schooling standard called the Common Core State Standards. These are a set of popular K 12 standards in English Language Arts and Mathematics with future standards in other subjects like Social Studies. They were created for the poor quality of content (Polikoff) standards and to ensure that every student will learn the same things at the same pace. Researchers claim that the standards are better than the current state standards, raising the expectations of performance for students. Hope, does contain similar dominant discourse of conformity in Kesey s novel. Although it foregrounds a particular viewpoint similar to the one presented in Kesey s novel, the representations of religious and sexuality supports the conformity discourse. Postumia is not conformed to the Vestal Virgin as she is thought to talk too witty for her age. This can be demonstrated by: Too witty for a young girl, her eyes, her walk. Unlike the music and arts from other eras the culture of arts and music was enormously sacred and closed minded where only the wise could be involved with those. Advertisements do not have any effects on what we need. We don t watch and add about how we need to eat food to stay alive; we have hunger for that. However, Advertisements greatly affect what we want. Do we want basic cereal or the fancy kind that athletes promote, or can we live with a plain shirt or do we want the one with a guy riding a horse emblem? These want that stray away from our basic needs are all driven by advertisement. No one is born wanting a Gucci shirt, they are taught and conditioned to want one. The Frontline documentary, The Persuaders , delves into the world of advertisement in order to explore different aspects of the industry that drives our desire. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After watching the film it is evident that the interaction between advertisements and consumers is similar to the interactions between media and audiences. This is because advertisement is inherently a form of media, but instead of trying to interaction the audience, it propagates a propaganda for a specific item. You can look at the theories about mass media consumption and apply it to advertisements. For example, in the dawn of mass media it was thought that the hypodermic needle theory, or magic bullet theory, was how audiences reacted to the media. This theory stated that when an audience consumed a certain facet of media like a radio talk show, the media content would be directly injected into the audience. Therefore, the audience would automatically respond to the stimuli. In this way the first advertisements were just information that stated that something was better than another product in the hope that, like an injection, the information would cause the audience to go out and buy their ... Union Pacific: A Case Study for Strategic Alternatives PART 1: INTRODUCTION Union Pacific Railroad Company (UNP) is one of the four major railroad companies that transports a variety of goods across North America and is an American staple of industriousness and endurance. Union Pacific with its workforce of 43,000 highly trained people has been in operation since 1862, and its span of operation stretches from Western to Southern United States and internationally into Western Canada and Northern Mexico. The American Association of Railroads has classified Union Pacific as part of the Class I Railroad Group, which consists of seven other railroad companies but Union Pacific is by far the standout ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One reason is the high capital investment for the development of railroad infrastructures and technologies. Consider this, between 1980 and 2009 Class I railroads spent $460 billion on infrastructure, equipment maintenance, and upgrades (Hitt et al. 2011, p. 387). In addition, new rails and routes must be coordinated and integrated into a complex and congested system that is owned and operated by well established companies. Although there is a clear and formidable barrier into the industry, railroads are not without competition. In addition to the fierce rivalry with the railroad companies within its strategic group, UNP must also compete with the trucking industry. Union Pacific and the rail industry saw a surge in business in 2007 compared to other modes of transportation due to the rising cost of fuel (diesel, jet, and gasoline) and an increase in environmental awareness. This rise and fall of fuel prices have presented both opportunities and challenges for UNP. The trucking industry poses a legitimate threat to the rail industry in terms of freight transportation because of accessibility and logistical versatility. The free wheeling trucking industry is not subjected to the heavy regulations that the rail industry must face. Trucks are not restricted by complicated rail networks and benefit from the use of roads and highways that are federally and state funded. Whereas UNP and other rail companies must subsidize ... Our purpose of the grant proposal, UND Solar Project: Saving Money Through Investing in Solar was to make a plan implementing and installing 1,000 solar panels at UND in order to save up money in the future. The project is accurate, because University of North Dakota faces numerous budget cuts and so the school needs a change in its spending and budget. Budget cuts and spending on logo which does not seem that important to do currently, makes students losing their sympathy to the school. Since us students are getting disappointed with the school, the tone of the grant proposal is based on these upsetting feelings that we have. Although this cut will take a toll on the budget deficit situation the University is currently encountering, it will not fix the debt we are facing. Taking a look at the money spent on powering this college is quite eye opening to say the least. This is by no means a small campus . This will also affect trade as If the UK has higher inflation than competitor countries (which it isn t now, but it has been for a lot of the last few decades) then UK prices gradually rise above imported prices. More imports are bought, so demand leaks out of the country and leaves UK businesses in a weak position such as Premier inn and Costa Coffee so overall inflation is not a good thing if it does occur and will have a negative effect on Whitbread s businesses. Unemployment High unemployment rates especially within the countries that Whitbread operate their businesses, Costs and Premier inn can have a great effect on business operations as high unemployment will mean that more people will be relying on benefits for survival and as a result will be spending less, this would in turn affect businesses such as Premier inn and costa coffee as no one will be using their products and services which will then effect profits which would mean that they would have to halt growth and cut staff which are all negative factors as a result. This means when Whitbread are planning on expanding within different countries they will carefully have to look at these factors. Since consumers have lower confidence in the strength of the economy and less to spend, demand for products and services drops, and

On the pro side of the argument, many doctors have performed new studies showing that caffeine has a lot of positive effects on our health such as reducing the risk of skin cancer which was confirmed in an experiment done by Erikka Loftfield MPH. He also did physical work a couple of hours every day. His more serious challenges began when he was set to work in South Africa, where he was discriminated against for being an Indian immigrant. For example, Gandhi was on a trip where he was seated in the first class compartment, as he had purchased a first class ticket. According to Bisht (2010): A White person who entered the compartment was upset that Gandhi was in first class and immediately summoned the White railway officials. They ordered Gandhi to remove himself and go to the van compartment, since coolies (a racist term for Indians) and non whites were not permitted in first class compartments. Gandhi protested and produced his ticket, but was warned that he would be forcibly removed if he did not make a gracious exit. As Gandhi refused to comply with the order, a White police officer pushed him out of the train, and his luggage was tossed out onto the platform. Therefore, the changes in resistance need to be measured accurately. Temperature coefficient of gauge factor is the change of sensitivity of the element to change its length with change in temperature. A fixed resistance in the input leg can be introduced to compensate for it. As a result, the effective supplied voltage increases when temperature increases. This compensates for the decrease in sensitivity. In one scene, the generals and majors stand watching the gory battle below, yet they continue to discuss the beautiful nature around them as if nothing else could possibly be worth their attention (Tolstoy 25). However, upon closer readings, it becomes evident that the war and nature scenes are not as separate as they seem. As the story progresses, the two begin to weave together, until distinguishing them is nearly impossible. Indeed, this subtly merger can be seen throughout multiple scenes as the story evolves. European powers saw the use of Imperialism, as well justified and a mean of spreading their influence and securing their strength. However the nations which found themselves under rule of an imperialistic power did not share the Europeans view on the favors they were giving. European nations saw themselves fit to divide the uncivilized world, almost in a pie like manner, to be placed under their reign. With this came many mistreatments of indigenous traditions and the people themselves. King Leopold the Second s imperialistic claim on the Congo, and the European attempts at controlling China both exemplify the disaster of Imperialism on the human condition, and the resistance created by the people. Both Africa and Qing China saw itself under the hungry eye of European powers. Meeting and arrangements were created, without the native s knowledge, by European power to subdivide and subjugate these lands for their own purposes, disregarding what the people of these lands desired. Despotism is a legitimate mode of government in dealing with barbarians, provided the end be their improvement. (King Leopolds Ghost, 2) The European powers present at the Berlin Conference of 1884, all saw themselves as a higher state of society, one that possessed a god granted right to control the lands and the people of the less civilized nations. King Leopold himself saw to obtain as much land as he pleased by manipulating the other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Classification of Contracts Contracts Not all contracts are equal to buyers and sellers. Rather, there are contracts that tend to be more beneficial to one party or the other. This is especially the case when dealing with contracts between private businesses and the government. The two most common contracts for these two groups are fixed price and cost reimbursement contracts (45 Wayne L. Rev.). While both contracts ensure that parties are properly compensated for work, each differentiates certain circumstances that are either more or less beneficial to one side in an agreement. This paper will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the fixed price, cost reimbursement, and labor hour contracts in light of both private contractors and government agencies. Fixed price contracts are the first category of contracts typically used by government agencies when seeking bids for jobs. This type of contract sets a specific budget for a project and seeks bidders who are willing to come the closest to this set amount. This contract, in most circumstances, is considered to be less beneficial to contractors. The advantages for contractors with these jobs are that the contract documents the budget and time frame before signing onto the project and when done properly, a contractor can earn a profit from this type of contract (Arye 2000). However, should the cost of supplies be unexpectedly high or there by unexpected delays and setbacks, the job may need to be completed at a loss. This is the most common ... • 45. Solar Energy Is The Best Type Of Energy When you close your eyes and think of solar energy, what do you see? Your response is most likely something positive such as an innovative, efficient, and renewable step forward into the future. Solar is also thought of to be the best type of energy because the sun will never go away. Well, solar energy will have to battle it out with natural gas and oil in the near future. As the price of oil and natural gas continues to drop, solar energy looks less desirable as other sources become more affordable in the short term (Sanburn 38). Josh Sanburn, author for Time Magazine, does have a relevant point while discussing solar energy s competitors. The handful of solar energy s positives makes it easy for the green thumbed consumers of today to overlook the many negatives. The negatives are very important though when on the topic of something that could possibly determine the future of the whole world s energy productivity. The number one issue with the continuation of solar energy is the price. The main solar energy companies try to sell their panels by repetitively saying that the panels will save money in the long run. Yet solar energy was the most costly energy source for kW/hr in 2015. The rooftop solar craze is wasting billions of dollars a year that could be spent on greener initiatives. It also is hindering the growth of much more cost effective renewable sources of power. Solar energy is able to stay relevant because of the large amount of subsidies placed by the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Impact Of Digital Media On Cinema It is obvious that technological convergence leads to the changes in media production and distribution (Bolin 2007; Tryon 2009; Dixon Foster 2011). These changes can be observed through the ways films are promoted and exhibited have also been affected by the use of digital media. The following sections will provide a detail analysis of these changes. Tryon (2009) examines the transformation of cinema to the digital form. The proliferation of new portable technologies sparked the debates about the changes in the film industry. On the one hand, there are concerns that digital media and home entertainment systems threaten the future of cinema, as they provide viewers more choices and flexibility in watching movies. On the other hand, media ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first thing to consider is the formats of movies. Digital formats have gradually replaced the film for many reasons: space efficient, inexpensive, immediate and unlimited (Pavlik McIntosh 2014, pp. 223 224). This is because physical films not only cost more but are also inconvenient to print, deliver and preserve. Meanwhile, the transfer of data by using digital tools is extremely fast and easy, whether through a computer or via satellite. For example, traditional types of film reels, such as the 35mm or 70mm, have given place for high capacity hard drives (Dixon Foster 2011, p. 22). Pavlik McIntosh (2014) also emphasize that while the digital data still need to be kept in a physical storage, it is still far more space saving than that needed by an analog form. Furthermore, it is totally free to duplicate the digital movies and send them to distributors. The movie industry, along with other mass media industries, has become more democratized and fragmented due to the use of digital technology. While the market is still dominated by a few giants, there are more spaces for smaller players. Retailers like Netflix or Amazon have paved the way for niche products to be consumed. This is what academics refer to as the long tail, which is the main focus of Chris Anderson s 2006 book. According to Anderson, our culture has long been obsessed with a small number of hits popular contents made by powerful companies. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
