In 1911 General Electric absorbed the National Electric Lamp Association
(NELA) into its lighting business. GE established its lighting division headquarters at Nela Park in
East Cleveland, Ohio. Nela Park is still the headquarters for GE s lighting business.
2.3 RCA
The Radio Corporation of America (RCA) was founded by GE in 1919 to further international radio.
GE used RCA as its retail arm for radio sales from
1919, when GE began production, until separation in 1930.[13] RCA would quickly grow into an
industrial giant of its own.
2.4 Power generation
GE s long history of working with turbines in the power generation field gave them the engineering
know how to move into the new field of aircraft turbosuperchargers. Led by Sanford Alexander Moss,
GE introduced the first superchargers during World War I, and continued to develop them during the
Interwar period. Superchargers became indispensable in the years immediately prior to World War II,
and GE was the world leader in exhaust driven supercharging when the war started. This experience,
in turn, made GE a natural selection to develop the Whittle W.1 jet engine that was demonstrated in
the
United States in 1941. Although their early work with Whittle s designs was later handed to Allison
Engine Company, GE Aviationemerged as one of the world s largest engine manufacturers, second

Traf4 Case Study
Introduction In the article, TRAF6 Restricts p53 Mitochondrial Translocation, Apoptosis, and Tumor
Suppression, the experimental study looks specifically at the TRAF6 E3 ligase and its different effects
on the mitochondrial tumor protein 53 (p53). The p53 gene plays a role in regulation of the cell cycle
and cell fate determination. A mutation in the p53 gene is repeatedly seen in characterized human
cancer cells. TRAF6 is shown to inhibit p53 activity by K63 linked ubiquitination at K24 of p53 in the
cytosol. This ubiquitination inhibits the interaction between p53 and MCL 1/BAK; therefore, this
restricts p53 from the mitochondria and prevents apoptosis. Furthermore, this study shows that
genotoxic stress affects MCL 1/BAK and p53 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Previous studies have suggested that K63 ubiquitination is associated with anti apoptotic protein
trafficking pathways. Figure 1 addresses whether K63 ubiquitination is accomplished by the TRAF6
E3 ligase. An immunoblot of p53 was used for U2SO cells in a Ni NTA assay to determine if K63
linked ubiquitination of p53 was associated with TRAF6. U2SO cells were used because of their high
proliferation rates. Flag TRAF6 and p53 were included in the western blot as controls for this assay.
Ubiquitin was tagged with histidine and TRAF6 was tagged with the Flag antibody to assess protein to
protein interactions. This assay shows ubiquitination of p53 in the presence of His Ub and Flag
TRAF6 indicating that K63 linked ubiquitination of p53 depends on TRAF6. To determine if
specifically, K63 linked ubiquitination occurs through TRAF6 the authors assessed whether TRAF6
promotes K48 linked ubiquitination of p53 and proteasomal degradation. An immunoblot for HA in a
Ni NTA pull down assay was generated to assess if ubiquitination and proteasomal degradation occurs
at K48 and K63 by TRAF6. HA p53 and Flag TRAF6 in U2SO cells were used to show protein
protein interaction. A

Star River Electronics (SRE) was a joint venture company between Starlight Electronics Ltd., and an
Asian venture capital firm, New Era Partners. The company was based in Singapore, and was engaged
into the manufacturing of CD ROMs which it supplied to major software companies.
The CD ROM manufacturing industry grew rapidly in the mid 1990s due to the popularity of optical
and multimedia products. Because of the emergence of small, but aggressive players, ... Show more

Any external funding needed is in the form of debt. Any other assumptions are based on the historical
analysis of reports. To find the rate of interest of New Era Loan, multiply the borrowings of bond issue
and short term borrowings to their rates then deduct the total of the two interest amounts from the total
interest expense in 2001 (SGD7,818).
The given interest rates are: a) 6.7% was computed as Prime Lending rate of 5.2% + 1.5% (City
Bank); b) interest rate on bond issue was stated at 5.75% which is paid semi annually. The interest
expense attributed to the New Era loan of SGD10,000 is a balancing figure.
The interest rate to be used for all short term borrowings should be 7.58%..
3. What is the company s sustainable growth rate based on the projections for 2002 and 2003? Is the
company growing beyond its financial capabilities?
Based on the company s 2001 performance, the computed sustainable growth rate is at 10.95%. This
means that the forecast 15% sales growth per year for 2002 and 2003 is above the maximum growth
rate that SRE can maintain without resorting to additional borrowings. Given this, it can be surmised
that if SRE is compelled to target this annual growth for the next two years, then it will have to be
prepared to increase the level of its short term

Similarities Between Greek And Roman Hygiene
Another controversial topic were their views on hygiene. The Greeks and Romans had many similar
ideas regarding hygiene while the Europeans during the Middle Ages had different views regarding
hygiene. The Greeks did not have running water but they understood what hygiene was and were
aware of staying clean and healthy. The Romans however, were very advanced in trying to stay clean.
They invented the aqueduct to carry water from far away lands. They took pride in having running hot
water. To them, being clean was a sign of superiority. Everybody stayed clean and bathed frequently in
public baths. The Middle Ages, however, was the complete opposite compared to the Greeks and
Romans. They cared very little about hygiene and did not shower regularly.

Tweetsie Case Study
On the rainy Wednesday I learned that when there is bad weather the park has three options for
running operations. Option #1 is that Tweetsie is run as normal and the show goes on as usual. Option
#2 is running at half capacity, which means that only Main Street and the train will operate. All of the
rides stop running and none of the shows take place during operating hours. Finally, Tweetsie has the
option of just running train rides and closing all other aspects of the park. If this happens we let people
in for free because all they would be able to do is ride the train. In the recent history of Tweetsie they
ve only closed twice and run a half day once, so it s common to keep the park open despite nasty
weather. I also learned not to get my hopes up that I wouldn t have to go into work if it s raining in the

I count unlimited food and drink armbands in order to make sure that each group has enough of what
they ordered and get that completed before they arrive. My boss also showed me how to count out

The Importance Of The Flipped Classroom
The motivation to examine the flipped classroom as a theme of investigation originates from this
present creator s advantage and mastery in utilizing innovation and how it can be utilized to draw in
and upgrade the classroom condition today. Most secondary school seniors were conceived and grew
up concurrent with the introduction of cell phones, youtube, myspace, facebook, snapchat and
instagram. With the advances in innovation regularly, one starts to contemplate what is the eventual
future of education. Flipped classroom turned into an enthusiasm of mine since it includes utilizing
online videos and it can possibly furnish educators with additional time in the classroom to provide
learning experiences that will reinforce the skills needed by the 21st Century student.
Why the Flipped Classroom
Research has demonstrated that the classroom educator can have the largest impact on gains in student
learning (Marzano, Pickering, Pollack, 2001). Marzano et al. (2001) provided teachers with many
different research based strategies for increasing student achievement. In later research, (Marzano,
2007) went on to say, Arguably, keeping students engaged is one of the most important considerations
for the classroom teacher (Marzano, 2007 p. 98). He additionally states that engaging students have
become increasingly difficult with the influence of a society with fast paced media and video games.
(Marzano, 2007 p. 98) Marzano provided educators with many different ideas for the

Periodontal Disease And Its Effects On The Body
Abstract
Periodontal disease is an exaggerated immune response to dental bacterial plaque biofilms. It is
broken down into the two categories of gingivitis and periodontitis. Gingivitis affects the gingiva and
is marked by a red, swollen, inflamed appearance. Periodontitis affects the entire periodontium and is
marked by clinical attachment loss. Autoimmune disorders are caused by a faulty immune system that
targets the body s own cells and attacks the host s organs causing tissue destruction. In both
periodontal disease and autoimmune disorders the tissue destruction observed is caused by an
exaggerated inflammatory response from the immune system. Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune
disorder and periodontitis is a form of periodontal disease, both affect the bone and are caused by a
deregulated inflammatory response. The two are even linked to some of the same bacteria. Patients
that suffer from autoimmune disorders are more likely to develop periodontal disease due to their
predisposition to an exaggerated immune response.
Introduction
What is periodontal disease and how does it affect the body? Periodontal disease is categorized into
two different inflammatory conditions known as gingivitis and periodontitis. The body s inflammatory
response is triggered by dental bacterial plaque biofilms and it is this inflammatory response that is
responsible for the tissue destruction that occurs. The two different categories of periodontal disease
are similar

Irregular Warfare Mindset Needed for Our Modern World Essay
Since World War II, there have been over 80 irregular conflicts, including civil and guerrilla wars,
rebellions or insurgencies. The United States has been involved in several of these conflicts, some of
which are still ongoing, such as the conflict in Somalia. The conflict in Somalia, widely seen as
unsuccessful, saw a significant change from the conventional mindset to one of irregular warfare.
While threats from conventional forces still exist in today s environment, irregular warfare has
become a mainstay across the globe.
The United States needs to adopt and maintain an irregular warfare mindset, above that of
conventional, to ensure adaptable economic, political and military capabilities in an ever evolving
global environment. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Backed by the international community, including the UN, the U.S. attempted to provide basic
services to the people of war torn Somalia. Although these stability operations ultimately failed, the
U.S. has been able to capitalize on the lessons learned from Somalia. Somalia greatly changed the way
the U.S. conducted irregular warfare activities, such as stability operations and two other significant
ones.
Counterinsurgency (COIN) and Counterterrorism (CT) operations have been used extensively in
Somalia since 1992, especially since the failed use of stability operations. While neither of these
operations has had success in creating a stable Somalia, both have been instrumental in keeping
Islamic militants in check, particularly those with ties to al Qaeda (i.e. al Shabaab). Fighting terrorist
organizations such as al Shabaab and al Qaeda have been dominated by irregular warfare, which has
spawned numerous military and academic studies regarding irregular warfare. In cases such as
Somalia, Afghanistan, and other global hotbeds for terrorism, the U.S. has refined the way irregular
warfare is conducted.
The three irregular warfare activities listed above (stability operations, counterinsurgency, and
counterterrorism) have led front pages since Somalia, Iraq and Afghanistan. COIN, in particular,
defines the way the U.S. approaches irregular warfare, but the U.S. is ultimately

PICA Personal Statement
My area of interest in PICA is women s mental health from a developmental perspective. As a young
adult woman who struggles with Generalized Anxiety Disorder, I have always been interested in what
causes anxiety, specifically in women, and why it seems to be heightened in the adolescent years of a
woman s life. I remember how frustrated I was with myself and my situation when I was first
diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder as a teenager. I had no idea what it was, why I had it,
and what to do next. I also remember how hard it was for my parents and siblings to see me struggling
with a mental illness and being unable to help me because they also lacked the sufficient amount of
knowledge to make a difference. Mental illness is difficult ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It s Robotic Arm Hovers
With the click of a button, a small machine buzzes to life. It s robotic arm hovers, lowers, then
promptly repositions to hold a pair of syringes over a set of petri dishes. With short, rapid bursts the
syringes release a milky white paste, forming tiny little hexagons in each dish. After only a few
minutes they grow, resembling small honeycomb shaped structures. But these are no ordinary
honeycombs they re human livers (Tomo News). These small phenomenon of biomedical engineering
are identical to tissue samples of the real thing and constructed from actual human cells. But instead of
being grown in the lab or taken from a donor, the biomedical professionals at Organovo print them,
just like they would a document. In the past two decades, 3 D printing has grown from a niche
manufacturing process to a $2.7 billion industry, responsible for the fabrication of all sorts of things:
toys, jewelry, machine parts, and even food (Griggs). But now scientists are working to apply that
same technology to the field of medicine. In labs around the world, like the one at Organovo,
scientists have begun to print prototype body parts including heart valves, ears, artificial bone, joints,
menisci, vascular tubes, and skin grafts, ( Bioprinting ). The innovation of this technology lies in the
fact that it generates actual living human cells, allowing for the reproduction of organs and tissue that
mimic the form and function of native tissues in the body ( Bioprinting ). Since its

Most settings of classrooms we see in the Philippines or observed even in our own schools and

from our teachers or professors are changing the style of the seats like instead of using the Row Style

The active performance of the students can be seen during recitations, asking questions and
participation in class activities. The researcher decided to stick with the variable, recitation of the
students. When a child is active in his or her performance, it is possible that he or she learned a lot and
gets more knowledge. As for the researcher s opinion, seating arrangement is not for a shallow reason
of controlling the students because after all, inside the classroom, there is always an authority and that
is the teacher and authority should be followed for they set order for the better. In case of a classroom,
seating arrangement is a concern for the teachers in order to prevent and lessen constraints brought by
the students that could affect the attention of both the teacher and the classmates and much worse the
learning process that could affect the active participation of the students. Still, the majority s
advantage is being seen. The researcher aims to know the effects of U style seating arrangement to
active participation in terms of first, question and answer portion between the teacher and students,
second, sharing of ideas of the students and lastly, lessening of disruptive behavior in the class. Also,
the researcher wants to know the effects of Row style seating arrangement to active participation in

boat that they will later row (or sail). Throughout the entire semester they are taught about the local
history and skills needed when out on the water. The goal of this program is to increase education in
STEM, because that is what the majority of students these days lack, math being the worst. To achieve
this goal, LMS is working with the College of Charleston to improve the curriculum, train students to

Can words change person s thoughts from desperation, violence, to peace and normality within a
dehumanizing prison? Some prisoners spending short to long term sentenced, sometimes lose
themselves in a world of violence and become worse off when coming into the prison system, than
how they used to be before prison life. Trying to hold on to any bit of sanity or respect for humanity
becomes an everyday struggle. Sometimes the smallest thing can help prevent the feeling, of going
over that edge of no return from a dreadfulness act of death.

The researchers used a questionnaire based on the Health Belief Model (HBM) which was developed
to assess individual s perception of susceptibility to illness, severity of illness, costs and benefits of
action, and cues to action. Data was collected from 177 New Jersey nurses, attending an emergency
care conference, using a 56 question survey. The results were analyzed and compiled into 5 different
tables in regards to the susceptibility, role, knowledge and experience of nursing in disaster
preparedness and response. A strength of the study was that 79% of the nurses who completed the
survey were special certified and 70.5% of the respondents have more than 10 years of experience in
emergency nursing. This allowed for the researchers to gather information that was accurate and
actually pertained to the population. There were several limitations of the study including, the small
sample size and potential demographic bias. All of the nurses that completed the survey live and work
in the New York or New Jersey area and based on the 9/11 attacks the respondents might have
different attitudes towards disaster response than do nurses from other parts of the United States

Although I was a little behind on my service project due to the miscommunication with Stormbreak, I

restorative strength is taking the burden off others and putting it onto your own shoulders. I met Jamie,
from the State College YMCA, through Dawn. I reached out to Jamie and asked if she needed any
help with her part in the event; she needed help setting up tables at various YMCA locations
throughout Centre County. Although it was short notice and required a few hours of driving, I offered
to help Jamie set up the tables. Because of my helpful nature, I took the task off of Jamie s hands and
completed it even though it required some traveling to various locations. Belief, another one of my
strengths, also played a role in my service project. It mentioned that someone who is talented in the
belief theme usually spends times on things that relate to ideals and core values. It also explained that
individuals who have the belief strength take interest and want to help those who are struggling. I
wanted to work with Stormbreak because I admired the work they did in helping teenage girls find

Characters In Alice Munro s Differently
In Alice Munro s short story Differently, the main character Georgia recounts memories of Maya and
their fallout when she visits her friend s widowed husband many years later. Upon her visit, her mind
is flooded with memories of friendship, infidelity, and broken trust which inevitably disconnected her
from Maya and Ben (Georgia s husband). Throughout the text, the author highlights the main
character s inability to filter through many details as she describes the end of various relationships
following Maya s betrayal. The author s thorough description of settings, characters, and events
emphasizes Georgia s difficulty in focusing on what details of her life are important, as most of them
seem important to her.
The opening words of Alice Munro s Differently introduce the style the author uses throughout the
short story: Georgia once took a creative writing course, and what the instructor told her was: Too
many things. Too many things going on at the same time; also too many people [...] What do you want
us to pay attention to? Think (Munro 1). These lines echo in the mind of the reader as they dive further
into the text, reading about too many things and meeting too many people.
Munro introduces Georgia, Raymond, Maya, Ben, Harvey, Anne, Hilda and her former creative
writing instructor all within the first few pages. The role of each character (aside from the creative
writing instructor) is clouded with the details of their physical appearance or small mannerisms.

The Conquests and Legacy of Alexander the Great Essay
Alexander III of Macedon, more commonly known as Alexander the Great, is one of the most
legendary figures in our history and in the history of the world. His conquests and endeavors echoed
far and wide, bringing about new eras and ideas to the world. Alexander earned his place in the world
s history and is worthy of the title The Great because of his military prowess, his idealism and his
legacy.
During the course of his life and reign, Alexander had fought and won many battles and wars,
defeating many kings and warlords throughout the ancient world. Perhaps his most recognized
conquest was of the Achaemenid Empire of Persia and its King of Kings Darius III during the Battle
of Issus 1. After defeating the Persians at the Battle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At a young age, Alexander believed his destiny was to exact revenge on the Persians for the burning of
Athens 7, but as his campaign became longer and longer, his ideals changed and his vision for the new
world came into existence. His vision for a united Macedonia, along with conquered countries being
absorbed into the empire, came with the prospect of global trade routes, intermingling of the Persian
and Macedonian cultures and people, and interracial marriage between royalty of Persian and
Macedonian empires 8. His vision was far more ambitious than what the Macedonian leaders had
sought after: he attempted to combine the two greatest powers in the known world to create an even
greater power 9. He was an idealist because where his predecessors had aimed to keep the
Macedonian race pure and rule all empires, including the Persians; Alexander sought to include the
massive Persian population into the empire, utilizing their unique skills and culture, which would only
benefit the kingdom as a whole 10. His many attempts to integrate the Persian people into his own
included using Persian soldiers in his ranks, promoting interracial marriage, and even marrying 2
foreign princesses to better consolidate his vast empire 11. While his many attempts ultimately failed
and the fragile alliance between the Persians and Macedonians fell apart, his

Elvis Presley Influence
Rock and roll music was really started by this one quote: I don t sound like nobody (Marsh). This
quote was said by Elvis when he first met Sun founder Sam Phillips, during a recording session that
Elvis was making for his mother s birthday. Phillips liked Elvis voice and singing style so much that
he thought Elvis was a black man! The public would also have this theory about him until they
actually saw him. Of course, when Elvis Presley walked into Sun Studios in Memphis, Tennessee,
even he could not predict that he was about to change the course of music history forever. Elvis
Presley is the true definition of a rock star. He has basically had music all around him his entire life.

Presley was also a terrific dancer, and broke the rules in traditional showmanship, which often put him
in the middle of controversy. Presley has already appeared six times on national television, but it is his
appearance on The Milton Berle Show on June 5, 1956, that triggers the first controversy of his career.
Presley sings his latest single, Hound Dog, with all the pelvis shaking intensity his fans scream for
(Marsh). Elvis chose to dance in this manner to express himself, and did not see any issues
surrounding it. He did what he felt like doing, and would inspire artists such as James Brown and Jim
Morrison of The Doors to have a breathtaking stage presence. For this reason, several religious groups
were outraged at Elvis chosen form of expression, and started protesting the young singer. Television
critics across the country slam the performance for its appalling lack of musicality, for its vulgarity
and animalism. The Catholic Church takes up the criticism in its weekly organ in a piece headlined
Beware Elvis Presley. Concerns about juvenile delinquency and the changing moral values of the
young find a new target in the popular singer (Marsh). The churches were particularly angered at
Presley s dancing, and rallied against him, much to the chagrin of the teenage fans. In like manner,
newspapers would express public outcries of why Elvis music should be banned from their towns,
leading to a short decline in Elvis record sales. With these two characteristics of performing, Elvis
would go on to inspire countless musicians, all over the

Biomechanics Of The Tympanic Membrane
Darisha Jhutty
April 27, 2015
BIOE 154: Introduction to Biomechanics
Professor Norman
Biomechanics of the Tympanic Membrane
Background: Over the past years, bioengineers have applied different methods for modelling the
human ear. The human ear is an intricate biomechanical system with its primary function to sound
perception and reception. The ear is divided into 3 main components, each with its own unique
functions: the outer ear (pinna), the middle ear, and the inner ear. The outer ear, or the pinna, consists
of the auricle, the skin covered cartilage of the ear visible on the outside of the head, as well as the
opening to the auditory canal. The middle ear refers the air filled hollow space (tympanic cavity)
behind the eardrum or tympanic membrane. The tympanic membrane is a thin, cone shaped membrane
that separates the outer ear from the middle ear (Figure 1a). The tympanic membrane is made up of
two main parts: the fragile pars flaccida (upper region) and robust the pars tersa (lower region). The
pars tersa, composed of three layers: skin, fibrous tissue, and mucus, makes up the majority of the
tympanic membrane. The pars flaccida is often associated with eustachian tube malfunctions and
choleostomas, whereas the pars tersa is associated with perforations. There are 3 bones, the malleus,
incus, and stapes, in the middle ear (Figure 1b) that vibrate when exposed to the vibrations of the
sound waves. The malleus is attached to the medial surface of the tympanic

Security Breach at TJX
1. What are the (a) people, (b) work process and (c) technology failure points in TJX s security that
require attention?
While it is known that all retailers, large and small, are vulnerable to attacks, several factors including
people, work process, and technology require attention so as to prevent another major attack from
hitting TJX.
The people associated with the attack who need attention are the top level executives and, more
importantly, the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard
(PCI DSS) auditors. Top level executives need to understand that IT security is a business issue and
not just a technology issue. As seen by the attack, an IT security breach can mean hundreds of ... Show

2. How should the company s IT security be improved and strengthened? What should its short term
priorities and long term plans be?
Hiring Richel as the Chief Security Officer was one big step towards a better IT security program at
TJX; he s an executive who understands the harsh and costly consequences of a weak IT security
system and has plans to implement the strongest system possible.
Short term priorities include 1) addressing Mary Smith s letter and taking care of the $5,000 theft, 2)
implement network monitoring, 3) implement logs, 4) encrypt ALL data and minimize the time where
data goes from scrambled to unscrambled , and 5) update all components of the system, both hardware
and software, to the most modern and secure in the industry.
Long term priorities should include minimizing risk by making everyone in the company, not just
top level executives, aware of the potential of another massive attack on their system. The reason why
I think store clerks and managers should be made aware of their respective branch s IT system
(wireless, kiosks, card swipers, etc) is so that they know what an attack looks like when it is
happening. More times than not, the invasion is happening right in front of the cashier s face yet they
have absolutely no idea.

Personal Narrative On Snow
Snow. It s one of those perils that every trucker finds him or herself in from time to time. It really isn t
the end of the world unless of course one happens to be in an area where people aren t accustomed to
it. Luckily for me, I was in Portland. Oh, sure. Every town has their idiots who can t drive on dry road,
let alone slick ones. But for the most part, Portland Oregon isn t a bad place to drive through during a
snow storm.
I had just fueled up at the truck stop just east of town and was ready to get started on a five day trip to
Philadelphia. Having a relatively light load in the box, I didn t bother to weigh. I simply wanted to get
on the road and hopefully get ahead of the storm that was dumping snow to the tune of about two and

As he sat down, he removed his hat and his ski goggles to reveal one of the most beautiful boyish
faces I have ever seen to this day. He looked to be about twenty years of age, but I didn t ask. And
although a part of me wondered what would happen if I just leaned over and planted a kiss so deep his
back teeth would tingle, I decided that discretion was the better part of valor in these types of
situations.
Where you headed, son? I asked as I put the truck back into gear and started winding up again.
Baltimore, sir. He almost seemed nervous to reveal information. I wondered what kind of situation he
was leaving.
You sure picked a hellofa night to go for a walk. I chuckled as the five hundred and fifty horses under
the hood climbed to a soft gallop.

Rap Music And Its Effects On Society
Who some call the call the godfather of rap, Eazy E, once said, Who gave it that title, gangsta rap? It s
reality rap. It s about what s really going on. There has been a great injustice done to the form of
expression called rap. In essence rap is just lyrics over a basic beat or rhythm. Many members of
society today assume that rap is a dangerous and violent influence, however what they seem to be
ignorant of is the fact that rap music is actually beneficial. The majority of the world we live in today
has unjustly classified rap as a barbaric form of music, unfit for any decent human to listen to, but the
reality of the situation is, that people simply cannot accept the culture known as rap into society.
Nowadays, rappers such as Kanye, Soulja Boi, and Wiz Khalifa are receiving much criticism about the
way they portray their hoodlum lifestyle or the way they encourage violence through their music,
when in actuality they are venting about the unfair circumstances society has forced them into.
Listening to rap music and it s positive vibes is in fact beneficial based on evidence which shows that
consumption of rap music not only assists the listener in several ways, but also aids the rapper. The
form of music that we know as rap is heavily influenced by earlier African American music forms.
Modern day rap, originates from it s previous form of gangsta rap. Gangsta rap is an extremely
controversial form of music, even to this day, people argue about how safe it is

Assignment 2 Mobile Museum or Art Gallery System
Museums and art galleries make an important contribution to our cultural landscape. A visit to a
museum or art gallery can happen for many reasons. People may want to learn, be reflective, to be
entertained or to have a fun day out with friends and family. People may have a deep interest in what
they will see there or they may just want something to do on a rainy afternoon.

Digital technology can provide opportunities for enhancing these experiences in a number of ways.
They may offer information before a visit. During a visit users might want information or to
communicate in some way. Mobile devices can be location aware. For example, this can be done using
QR codes. A QR (Quick Response) code (see image below) is a matrix barcode which can be scanned
by a device fitted with a camera (such as a smart phone). A user could scan a code next to an exhibit to
launch some location based service. And after the visit there may be some follow up activities,
perhaps using information about what interested them.

Social Media in Africa
Three years ago I spent five weeks in Central Africa Republic. Traveling around the countryside and
visiting with nationals was rewarding in many ways. If you asked me then, I would have never
foreseen what direction the country was headed. I could never have imagined the once beautiful
capital of Bangui would turn into war torn rubbish, filled with refugees fleeing from harm.
Central Africa Republic is in the middle of a war brought on by its own people. Muslims and Christian
s battle back and forth aggressively killing one another and inputting fear into many. Humanitarians
have been risking their lives attempting to stop the chaos and bring the country back to order.
Organizations like the United Nations and UNICEF are doing their part to provide for the refugees,
while individuals like Peter Bouckaert and Samantha Power are meeting with rebel leaders
encouraging peace. Social media, in particular Twitter, has been a major platform for these
organizations and individuals to share with the world the experiences they are encountering daily.
Using Twitter hashtags like #CAR and #CARcrisis allows for stories to be told and information to be
released throughout the world. Individuals worldwide are becoming aware of the circumstances
happening overseas by simply opening their Twitter account, and not just from mainstream news
sources.
The crisis in Central Africa Republic is only one example of social media s impact on the
humanitarian sector. This is becoming a larger

waiting to see if it is truly profitable. They are also waiting to see if their customers will prefer the
online rout instead of the traditional grocery shopping trip at one of their supermarkets. The factors
that limit the ability of competitors to imitate resources or capabilities like high cost, property rights,

Muscle Protein Synthesis Essay
Introduction:
In recent years, interest has sparked the health industry to research protein consumption after exercise
to optimise muscle growth. Muscle Protein Synthesis (MPS) is not only an appealing topic for
bodybuilders, it is also beneficial to those over 60 years of age who may have experienced muscle
mass loss over time. A decrease in muscle mass does not only lead to a decrease in overall strength but
also makes daily movement severely painful, leading to a poor quality of life. All individuals can
benefit from increasing muscle protein synthesis via an increased protein intake after resistance
training. This will aid in maintaining muscle mass, strength and overall health (Wolfe, 2012).
Review of Research Studies:
Increasing muscle protein synthesis is crucial for the health of individuals over the age of 60. A study
conducted by Dr. Ryan Andrews shows that a change in daily protein intake can impact the building of
lean muscle mass. Participants between the age of 60 and 69 underwent a 12 week resistance training
regime and were given a post exercise protein drink after each session. Results showed a substantial
increase in lean muscle mass over the 12 week program for both males and females. Nevertheless,
results indicated those that had consumed a daily diet high in protein had comparable increases of lean
muscle mass as those with a daily diet low in protein. This indicates that it did not matter how much
protein was consumed daily, but the post exercise ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Understanding Cannabinoids And Their Effects
Understanding Cannabinoids
Join us (and the rest of the world) in somewhat understanding cannabinoids and their effects.
Understanding cannabinoids as a layman seems to be only slightly less confusing than understanding
them as a scientist. That s not entirely true, but we are talking about a system within the human body
with who knows how many receptors and we ve identified exactly two in the last twenty years. Which
is great, because new science is fun, and the concept of understanding cannabinoids is definitely new
science.
What are cannabinoids?
Cannabinoids are compounds that produce the effects experienced from ingesting Cannabis.
There are four types of cannabinoids recognized by the National Institutes of Health:
* Phytocannabinoids include all of the plant material (leaves, stem, seeds, etc.)
* Endocannabinoids are cannabinoids that are produced by the human body
* Synthetic cannabinoids are chemical imitations
* Purified natural occurring extracts are attempts to isolate cannabinoids
The discovery of endocannabinoids led to the identification of an entire system in the human body,
comprised of lipids, receptors, and enzymes. The endocannabinoid system is responsible for a host of
physiological processes that rely on the interactivity of cannabinoids and their receptors. Since their
discovery and cloning in the early 90s, the CB1 and CB2 receptors are still the only receptors that
have been identified in the endocannabinoid system. The location of a

How Did Popular Sovereignty Influence The Government
Popular Sovereignty has changed a lot with the people who had an influence on our government. In
1787 not very many people had an influence on our government. The only people whose opinion
mattered were white, old men with property. Now, in 2017, we have a lot more people that can express
their opinions and vote for what they agree with.
In 2017 all United States citizens can vote as long as their 18 years or older and registered. This has
allowed thousands of more people to vote. How did this huge of a change happen? From amendments,
acts, cases, and more. The first amendment gives everyone the right for petition, assembly, speech,
religion, and press. This gives everyone the right to speak their opinion of their political views,
religious beliefs, and ect. Only white men voting changed with the adding of the amendments 15th
and 19th. The Voting Rights Act of 1965 lead to the 15th amendment. This amendment gave people of
any race to be allowed to vote. All men of any race was given the rights to vote. Later on came the
19th amendment. The 19th amendment gave all women above the legal age of 21 the right to vote.
Eventually the voting age got lowered to 18. Boys being drafted at age 18 were complaining which
helped this amendment be ratified so quickly. They were mad because there was so many things they
couldn t do but after the draft maybe not come back or come back hurt. ... Show more content on

GE used RCA as its retail arm for radio sales from 1919, when GE began production, until separation in 1930.[13] RCA would quickly grow into an industrial giant of its own. 2.4 Power generation GE s long history of working with turbines in the power generation field gave them the engineering know how to move into the new field of aircraft turbosuperchargers. • 3. Interwar period. Superchargers became indispensable in the years immediately prior to World War II, and GE was the world leader in exhaust driven supercharging when the war started. This experience, in turn, made GE a natural selection to develop the Whittle W.1 jet engine that was demonstrated in the United States in 1941. Although their early work with Whittle s designs was later handed to Allison Engine Company, GE Aviationemerged as one of the world s largest engine manufacturers, second only to the well founded and ... • 4. Traf4 Case Study Introduction In the article, TRAF6 Restricts p53 Mitochondrial Translocation, Apoptosis, and Tumor Suppression, the experimental study looks specifically at the TRAF6 E3 ligase and its different effects on the mitochondrial tumor protein 53 (p53). The p53 gene plays a role in regulation of the cell cycle and cell fate determination. A mutation in the p53 gene is repeatedly seen in characterized human cancer cells. TRAF6 is shown to inhibit p53 activity by K63 linked ubiquitination at K24 of p53 in the cytosol. This ubiquitination inhibits the interaction between p53 and MCL 1/BAK; therefore, this restricts p53 from the mitochondria and prevents apoptosis. Furthermore, this study shows that genotoxic stress affects MCL 1/BAK and p53 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Previous studies have suggested that K63 ubiquitination is associated with anti apoptotic protein trafficking pathways. Figure 1 addresses whether K63 ubiquitination is accomplished by the TRAF6 E3 ligase. An immunoblot of p53 was used for U2SO cells in a Ni NTA assay to determine if K63 linked ubiquitination of p53 was associated with TRAF6. U2SO cells were used because of their high proliferation rates. Flag TRAF6 and p53 were included in the western blot as controls for this assay. Ubiquitin was tagged with histidine and TRAF6 was tagged with the Flag antibody to assess protein to protein interactions. This assay shows ubiquitination of p53 in the presence of His Ub and Flag TRAF6 indicating that K63 linked ubiquitination of p53 depends on TRAF6. To determine if specifically, K63 linked ubiquitination occurs through TRAF6 the authors assessed whether TRAF6 promotes K48 linked ubiquitination of p53 and proteasomal degradation. An immunoblot for HA in a Ni NTA pull down assay was generated to assess if ubiquitination and proteasomal degradation occurs at K48 and K63 by TRAF6. HA p53 and Flag TRAF6 in U2SO cells were used to show protein protein interaction. A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

CASE BACKAGROUND Star River Electronics (SRE) was a joint venture company between Starlight Electronics Ltd., and an Asian venture capital firm, New Era Partners. The company was based in Singapore, and was engaged into the manufacturing of CD ROMs which it supplied to major software companies. This means that the forecast 15% sales growth per year for 2002 and 2003 is above the maximum growth rate that SRE can maintain without resorting to additional borrowings. Given this, it can be surmised that if SRE is compelled to target this annual growth for the next two years, then it will have to be prepared to increase the level of its short term ... The Greeks and Romans had many similar ideas regarding hygiene while the Europeans during the Middle Ages had different views regarding hygiene. The Greeks did not have running water but they understood what hygiene was and were aware of staying clean and healthy. The Romans however, were very advanced in trying to stay clean. They invented the aqueduct to carry water from far away lands. They took pride in having running hot water. To them, being clean was a sign of superiority. Everybody stayed clean and bathed frequently in public baths. The Middle Ages, however, was the complete opposite compared to the Greeks and Romans. • 8. Tweetsie Case Study On the rainy Wednesday I learned that when there is bad weather the park has three options for running operations. Option #1 is that Tweetsie is run as normal and the show goes on as usual. Option #2 is running at half capacity, which means that only Main Street and the train will operate. All of the rides stop running and none of the shows take place during operating hours. Finally, Tweetsie has the option of just running train rides and closing all other aspects of the park. If this happens we let people in for free because all they would be able to do is ride the train. In the recent history of Tweetsie they ve only closed twice and run a half day once, so it s common to keep the park open despite nasty weather. • 9. The Importance Of The Flipped Classroom The motivation to examine the flipped classroom as a theme of investigation originates from this present creator s advantage and mastery in utilizing innovation and how it can be utilized to draw in and upgrade the classroom condition today. Most secondary school seniors were conceived and grew up concurrent with the introduction of cell phones, youtube, myspace, facebook, snapchat and instagram. With the advances in innovation regularly, one starts to contemplate what is the eventual future of education. Flipped classroom turned into an enthusiasm of mine since it includes utilizing online videos and it can possibly furnish educators with additional time in the classroom to provide learning experiences that will reinforce the skills needed by the 21st Century student. Why the Flipped Classroom Research has demonstrated that the classroom educator can have the largest impact on gains in student learning (Marzano, Pickering, Pollack, 2001). Marzano et al. (2001) provided teachers with many different research based strategies for increasing student achievement. In later research, (Marzano, 2007) went on to say, Arguably, keeping students engaged is one of the most important considerations for the classroom teacher (Marzano, 2007 p. 98). He additionally states that engaging students have become increasingly difficult with the influence of a society with fast paced media and video games. • 10. Periodontal Disease And Its Effects On The Body Abstract Periodontal disease is an exaggerated immune response to dental bacterial plaque biofilms. It is broken down into the two categories of gingivitis and periodontitis. Gingivitis affects the gingiva and is marked by a red, swollen, inflamed appearance. Periodontitis affects the entire periodontium and is marked by clinical attachment loss. Autoimmune disorders are caused by a faulty immune system that targets the body s own cells and attacks the host s organs causing tissue destruction. In both periodontal disease and autoimmune disorders the tissue destruction observed is caused by an exaggerated inflammatory response from the immune system. Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disorder and periodontitis is a form of periodontal disease, both affect the bone and are caused by a deregulated inflammatory response. The two are even linked to some of the same bacteria. Patients that suffer from autoimmune disorders are more likely to develop periodontal disease due to their predisposition to an exaggerated immune response. Introduction What is periodontal disease and how does it affect the body? Periodontal disease is categorized into two different inflammatory conditions known as gingivitis and periodontitis. The body s inflammatory response is triggered by dental bacterial plaque biofilms and it is this inflammatory response that is responsible for the tissue destruction that occurs. The two different categories of periodontal disease are similar ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Irregular Warfare Mindset Needed for Our Modern World Essay Since World War II, there have been over 80 irregular conflicts, including civil and guerrilla wars, rebellions or insurgencies. The United States has been involved in several of these conflicts, some of which are still ongoing, such as the conflict in Somalia. The conflict in Somalia, widely seen as unsuccessful, saw a significant change from the conventional mindset to one of irregular warfare. While threats from conventional forces still exist in today s environment, irregular warfare has become a mainstay across the globe. The United States needs to adopt and maintain an irregular warfare mindset, above that of conventional, to ensure adaptable economic, political and military capabilities in an ever evolving global environment. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Backed by the international community, including the UN, the U.S. attempted to provide basic services to the people of war torn Somalia. Although these stability operations ultimately failed, the U.S. has been able to capitalize on the lessons learned from Somalia. Somalia greatly changed the way the U.S. conducted irregular warfare activities, such as stability operations and two other significant ones. Counterinsurgency (COIN) and Counterterrorism (CT) operations have been used extensively in Somalia since 1992, especially since the failed use of stability operations. While neither of these operations has had success in creating a stable Somalia, both have been instrumental in keeping Islamic militants in check, particularly those with ties to al Qaeda (i.e. al Shabaab). Fighting terrorist organizations such as al Shabaab and al Qaeda have been dominated by irregular warfare, which has spawned numerous military and academic studies regarding irregular warfare. In cases such as Somalia, Afghanistan, and other global hotbeds for terrorism, the U.S. has refined the way irregular warfare is conducted. The three irregular warfare activities listed above (stability operations, counterinsurgency, and counterterrorism) have led front pages since Somalia, Iraq and Afghanistan. COIN, in particular, defines the way the U.S. approaches irregular warfare, but the U.S. is ultimately ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As a young adult woman who struggles with Generalized Anxiety Disorder, I have always been interested in what causes anxiety, specifically in women, and why it seems to be heightened in the adolescent years of a woman s life. I remember how frustrated I was with myself and my situation when I was first diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder as a teenager. I had no idea what it was, why I had it, and what to do next. • 15. It s Robotic Arm Hovers With the click of a button, a small machine buzzes to life. It s robotic arm hovers, lowers, then promptly repositions to hold a pair of syringes over a set of petri dishes. With short, rapid bursts the syringes release a milky white paste, forming tiny little hexagons in each dish. After only a few minutes they grow, resembling small honeycomb shaped structures. But these are no ordinary honeycombs they re human livers (Tomo News). These small phenomenon of biomedical engineering are identical to tissue samples of the real thing and constructed from actual human cells. But instead of being grown in the lab or taken from a donor, the biomedical professionals at Organovo print them, just like they would a document. In the past two decades, 3 D printing has grown from a niche manufacturing process to a $2.7 billion industry, responsible for the fabrication of all sorts of things: toys, jewelry, machine parts, and even food (Griggs). But now scientists are working to apply that same technology to the field of medicine. In labs around the world, like the one at Organovo, scientists have begun to print prototype body parts including heart valves, ears, artificial bone, joints, menisci, vascular tubes, and skin grafts, ( Bioprinting ). The innovation of this technology lies in the fact that it generates actual living human cells, allowing for the reproduction of organs and tissue that mimic the form and function of native tissues in the body ( Bioprinting ). The researcher decided to stick with the variable, recitation of the students. When a child is active in his or her performance, it is possible that he or she learned a lot and gets more knowledge. As for the researcher s opinion, seating arrangement is not for a shallow reason of controlling the students because after all, inside the classroom, there is always an authority and that is the teacher and authority should be followed for they set order for the better. In case of a classroom, seating arrangement is a concern for the teachers in order to prevent and lessen constraints brought by the students that could affect the attention of both the teacher and the classmates and much worse the learning process that could affect the active participation of the students. Throughout the text, the author highlights the main character s inability to filter through many details as she describes the end of various relationships following Maya s betrayal. The author s thorough description of settings, characters, and events emphasizes Georgia s difficulty in focusing on what details of her life are important, as most of them seem important to her. Elvis chose to dance in this manner to express himself, and did not see any issues surrounding it. Biomechanics Of The Tympanic Membrane Darisha Jhutty April 27, 2015 BIOE 154: Introduction to Biomechanics Professor Norman Biomechanics of the Tympanic Membrane Background: Over the past years, bioengineers have applied different methods for modelling the human ear. The human ear is an intricate biomechanical system with its primary function to sound perception and reception. The ear is divided into 3 main components, each with its own unique functions: the outer ear (pinna), the middle ear, and the inner ear. The outer ear, or the pinna, consists of the auricle, the skin covered cartilage of the ear visible on the outside of the head, as well as the opening to the auditory canal. The middle ear refers the air filled hollow space (tympanic cavity) behind the eardrum or tympanic membrane. The tympanic membrane is a thin, cone shaped membrane that separates the outer ear from the middle ear (Figure 1a). The tympanic membrane is made up of two main parts: the fragile pars flaccida (upper region) and robust the pars tersa (lower region). The pars tersa, composed of three layers: skin, fibrous tissue, and mucus, makes up the majority of the tympanic membrane. The pars flaccida is often associated with eustachian tube malfunctions and choleostomas, whereas the pars tersa is associated with perforations. There are 3 bones, the malleus, incus, and stapes, in the middle ear (Figure 1b) that vibrate when exposed to the vibrations of the sound waves. There has been a great injustice done to the form of expression called rap. In essence rap is just lyrics over a basic beat or rhythm. Many members of society today assume that rap is a dangerous and violent influence, however what they seem to be ignorant of is the fact that rap music is actually beneficial. The majority of the world we live in today has unjustly classified rap as a barbaric form of music, unfit for any decent human to listen to, but the reality of the situation is, that people simply cannot accept the culture known as rap into society. Nowadays, rappers such as Kanye, Soulja Boi, and Wiz Khalifa are receiving much criticism about the way they portray their hoodlum lifestyle or the way they encourage violence through their music, when in actuality they are venting about the unfair circumstances society has forced them into. • 33. Muscle Protein Synthesis Essay Introduction: In recent years, interest has sparked the health industry to research protein consumption after exercise to optimise muscle growth. Muscle Protein Synthesis (MPS) is not only an appealing topic for bodybuilders, it is also beneficial to those over 60 years of age who may have experienced muscle mass loss over time. A decrease in muscle mass does not only lead to a decrease in overall strength but also makes daily movement severely painful, leading to a poor quality of life. All individuals can benefit from increasing muscle protein synthesis via an increased protein intake after resistance training. This will aid in maintaining muscle mass, strength and overall health (Wolfe, 2012). Review of Research Studies: Increasing muscle protein synthesis is crucial for the health of individuals over the age of 60. A study conducted by Dr. Ryan Andrews shows that a change in daily protein intake can impact the building of lean muscle mass. Participants between the age of 60 and 69 underwent a 12 week resistance training regime and were given a post exercise protein drink after each session. Results showed a substantial increase in lean muscle mass over the 12 week program for both males and females. Nevertheless, results indicated those that had consumed a daily diet high in protein had comparable increases of lean muscle mass as those with a daily diet low in protein. This indicates that it did not matter how much protein was consumed daily, but the post exercise ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, researchers have to observe and control over 50 patients for 12 weeks. This makes it difficult for those conducting the study to control each and every person s daily meals and protein intakes. However, a large cohort study like this allows for multiple effects and variables to be recorded, such as training schedules, risk management and injury prevention. All of which aids in improving research studies for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Understanding Cannabinoids And Their Effects Understanding Cannabinoids Join us (and the rest of the world) in somewhat understanding cannabinoids and their effects. Understanding cannabinoids as a layman seems to be only slightly less confusing than understanding them as a scientist. That s not entirely true, but we are talking about a system within the human body with who knows how many receptors and we ve identified exactly two in the last twenty years. Which is great, because new science is fun, and the concept of understanding cannabinoids is definitely new science. What are cannabinoids? Cannabinoids are compounds that produce the effects experienced from ingesting Cannabis. There are four types of cannabinoids recognized by the National Institutes of Health: * Phytocannabinoids include all of the plant material (leaves, stem, seeds, etc.) * Endocannabinoids are cannabinoids that are produced by the human body * Synthetic cannabinoids are chemical imitations * Purified natural occurring extracts are attempts to isolate cannabinoids The discovery of endocannabinoids led to the identification of an entire system in the human body, comprised of lipids, receptors, and enzymes. The endocannabinoid system is responsible for a host of physiological processes that rely on the interactivity of cannabinoids and their receptors. Since their discovery and cloning in the early 90s, the CB1 and CB2 receptors are still the only receptors that have been identified in the endocannabinoid system. The location of a ... • 35. How Did Popular Sovereignty Influence The Government Popular Sovereignty has changed a lot with the people who had an influence on our government. In 1787 not very many people had an influence on our government. The only people whose opinion mattered were white, old men with property. Now, in 2017, we have a lot more people that can express their opinions and vote for what they agree with. In 2017 all United States citizens can vote as long as their 18 years or older and registered. This has allowed thousands of more people to vote. How did this huge of a change happen? From amendments, acts, cases, and more. The first amendment gives everyone the right for petition, assembly, speech, religion, and press. This gives everyone the right to speak their opinion of their political views, religious beliefs, and ect. Only white men voting changed with the adding of the amendments 15th and 19th. The Voting Rights Act of 1965 lead to the 15th amendment. This amendment gave people of any race to be allowed to vote. All men of any race was given the rights to vote. Later on came the 19th amendment. The 19th amendment gave all women above the legal age of 21 the right to vote. Eventually the voting age got lowered to 18. Boys being drafted at age 18 were complaining which helped this amendment be ratified so quickly.
