Visionary And Ethical Leadership Of General Curtis
Visionary and Ethical Leadership of General Curtis LeMay

Visionary and Ethical Leadership of General Curtis LeMay
It s late afternoon on March 9th, 1945. The sun was shining brightly through a scattered deck of
clouds dotting the sky and there was a refreshing northeasterly breeze coming off the surrounding
waters. General Curtis LeMay is standing in the thick tropical air of Northwest Field on the small
Pacific island of Guam. He watches as over three hundred B 29 Superfortress bombers launch
northward towards Tokyo where they will use new and unproven tactics for delivering the most
devastating firebombing campaign in history. Through General LeMay s vision and innovation he
changed established doctrine of how bombers should operate in the European and Pacific theaters and
enabled untold successes but at what cost to American values and law?
My purpose is to show that General LeMay was a tremendous visionary leader although he made
unethical choices and that I have been able to see times in my life where principles of his actions
resonated with me. LeMay was a visionary leader due to his ability to adapt and win current wars
while keeping the foresight to look ahead at what was needed to shape the Air Force to deter or win
future wars. He was an unethical leader because while

Status Epilepticus
Evaluating a drug study (Valproate versus diazepam for generalized convulsive status epilepticus).
Ethical:
This study was ethical approved by the Ethics Committee of Xuanwu Hospital at the Capital Medical
University in Beijing, China. The authors disclosed no conflict of interest. The funding source was
funded by Capital Medical University s foundation.
Inform consent was obtained from the legal representatives of the patients that were admitted to the
intensive care unit. The only patients that were allowed to enroll were individuals who failed first line
(intravenous injection of diazepam) anticonvulsants. In the United States, lorazepam is considered the
first line drug for status epilepticus, but in China lorazepam is not available. ... Show more content on

Efficacy is based on the drug being equally effective as other medications in treating SE. Keeping the
patient safe and monitoring adverse side effects are essential when administering anticonvulsant drug
therapy.
Experimental methods:
This study design was an open label randomized controlled trial. A total of 66 patients enrolled in this
study with a mean age of 41 years old that were admitted in the intensive care unit from 2007 to 2010.
The mean age was between 40.8 to 41.4 between both groups. Of the 66 participants there were 36
men and 30 women that participated in this study. The seizure etiology included epilepsy related, virus
encephalitis, cerebrovascular disease, and other. The duration of seizures varied from under four hours
to over 24 hours.
The inclusion criteria included patients (15 years of age or older) with SE lasting five minutes of
continuous seizures or two or more discrete seizures with incomplete recovery of consciousness. The
participants that were allowed to enroll were individuals that failed first line therapy of intravenous
injection of diazepam (0.2 mg/kg) that was given twice with ten minute

Essay On Boeing
Executive Summary
In fierce competition with Boeing, venture into VLA segment as a rather neglected segment by Boeing
could pose as a strategic opportunity for Airbus which it could utilize to build a competitive advantage
combined with its technological resources and capabilities. However, its assumptions of a drastic
increase in VLAs demanded in next 20 years along with its ability to satisfy most of this are too
optimistic. Provided that these assumptions (inc. breakeven points, initial order requirements) are
normalized, A3XX is a project worthy to pursue for Airbus in order to exploit a neglected spot on the
perceptional map long haul + big capacity. When we hold the market itself continues to grow as
proposed in the case, this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We don t have a market risk premium value at hand for aviation sector but even if it is 15% the rate of
return Airbus presumes then 3.9% + 0.84X(15 3.9) = 13.2. So the project seems feasible. However,
when we apply the operating margin of 15% 20% as the source of cash flow per plane, we see that
from 288 to 385 planes would be needed for a breakeven to compensate investment costs. If we also
take into consideration of the fact that these payments will not be made all in the first year, each cash
flow will need to be discounted based on real interest rate (3.9%) and the year in question. We can
easily say, if the plane price is not appropriated accordingly each year, the breakeven point will go
even farther away from what Airbus imagined.
As for competition, Boeing had built approximately 85% of the industry s current fleet, which
indicates the high experience and brand awareness of Boeing in the industry, which is a competitive
advantage in terms of strong service level. 747 400 is the only model that can be seen as an alternative
to the new Airbus VLA models. Boeing s 747 launch case indicates that this kind of decision to make
for Airbus should based on long term projections. It can be seen as unnecessary for the

The Dangers of Norwalk Virus
What is the disease that can affect 23 million people and kill 800 people in the span of a winter with in
the United States alone? (CDC, 2105) This same illness has around 3,000 people admitted into british
hospitals yearly. (CDC, 2105) Norwalk virus, also called Norovirus after the renaming in 2002, is the
most common stomach bug but is still very dangerous. This virus has killed more than 200,000
children in developing countries and affects so many people within one winter, which is why the
Norwalk virus is called the Winter Vomiting Illness. (food safety, 2105) The Norwalk virus is very
preventable, but can do damage.
History
To understand what Norwalk is you have to look at it s history. Norwalk has been around for hundreds
if not thousands of years and is almost impossible to track where the illness had originally came from.
Norwalk was first accurately recorded in the outbreak of Norwalk, Ohio 1968,

and good relationship with distributors. Its weakness includes inexperience in selling equipment and

Liberalism Will Inevitably Lead To Peace And Security For All
Essay
Topic:
The global reach of liberalism will inevitably lead to peace and security for all what are the grounds
for this argument?
Answer:
Liberalism is a theory of international relations with a view point that human is born good and free.
In this question will require a discussion on the Democratic Peace Theory which was emphasised after
the Cold War and the fall of the Soviet Union. The main argument was that democratic states tend not
to fight other democratic states. This theory has been associated largely with writings of Michael
Doyle and Bruce Russet. Early authors like Immanuel Kant also foreshadowed the theory of peace
between liberal democracies in his essay Perpetual Peace written in 1795. The idea that ... Show more

If it is wrong for an individual within a state to commit a crime against another individual so does it
applies to democratic nations. It is wrong for one democratic nation to wage war against another
democratic nation. This idea was also developed in Kant s argument about the league of peace or
pacific federation (Foedus Pacificum) This idea of peace is based on all human beings which stand in
an ethical relationship to one another. For Kant s this league of does not seek any power of sort
possessed by any nation, but only the maintenance and security of each nation s own freedom . Doyle
will later expand on this proposition that liberal states have a unique ability and willingness to
establish peaceful relations among themselves.
The second key assumption of liberalism on which peace and security can be achieved is the practice
of free trade among nations. The mercantilist period of history is linked to the rise of the modern
nations in Europe. This period could be described as the time which nations were focused narrowly on
gaining wealth and discouraging imports. The mercantilist policies included restrictions on import and
development of colonial empires. Mercantilist view was that of the Louis XIV s finance Minister, Jean
Baptist Colbert who said trade is a source of finance and finance is the vital nerve of war According
Carr the aim of mercantilism was not to promote the welfare of the community and its members but to
augment the power of

Identifying the Narrative and Genre Characteristics in a Film
Identifying the Narrative and Genre Characteristics in a Film
Film is undoubtly the reflective illusion of life and its complexities brought to a facade of
psychological reality for its audience. It is an art form which plays with mans very definition of
semiotic meanings, codes, signs, signifiers, connotations and popular ideologies to create a mental
association with its audience and transport the spectator through the door way of a cinematic
recreation of the real world This is more commonly known as verisimilitude. Arguably no genre

audience to the extent of Noir and its conventional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Deception, corruption of the seemingly incorruptible, treachery and murder are common place with
dialogue usually being as abrasive to morality through its mode of address as the visual and thematic
conflict on screen. Meaning is created technically and characterised through a unique style of night
shooting, dark shadows, sharp lighting contrasts, askew camera angles, symbolic environments and
incoherent heavy flashbacked narratives. Iconography is a key part of this genre as it and its
reoccurring and recognisable symbols such as the detective who operates on the edge of the law (again
a metaphoric blurring of the philosophical concept of good and evil) and sometimes even actors
associated with the genre itself, carry meaning from film to film. The narrational format of this genre
tends to, through the techniques of voice over, subjective camera angles and similar subjectiveness of
actual storytelling convey an almost documentary style realism.
This realism gives the spectator a privileged if not deceiving access into the fictional mind of the
narrator. In the words of Robert Porfirio It is almost if the narrator takes a perverse pleasure in

Cameron Case
Was Cameron occupying the car as defined by Mr. Frye s automobile insurance policy by placing the
car on a jack and running it backwards by placing a concrete block on the gas pedal if he continued to
monitor the vehicle, kicked it repeatedly and leaned on it? Did Cameron intentionally damage the
vehicle when continuously kicking it and leaning on it? Almost certainly. A person is occupying a
vehicle as long as they have a continuing relationship with the vehicle after having physical contact,
and are within proximity of vehicle. Occupancy of a vehicle does not have to be related to
transportation. Cameron was engaged in rolling back the odometer, kicked the vehicle repeatedly, and

Critically Evaluate How the Situational Model of...
Introduction
Saddam Hussein was the President of Iraq from 1979 to 2003 and during his time in office was
responsible for a tumultuous period in Iraqi history. For the purposes of analysis of his leadership style
with respect to a Situational model, three areas of his career will be looked at separately; his rise to
presidency from Vice President, during the Iran Iraq War and post invasion of Kuwait.
Situational model of leadership
A widely recognised situational model is the model developed by Hersey and Blanchard (1969) and
the revised model by Blanchard et al. (1985) (Northhouse, 2007). The theory in outline states that one
s leadership style should be dictated by the type of situation and the demands of the situation at ...

This leadership style needs to be used sparingly since workers can often burn out due to the
demanding pace of the style.
Democratic Leaders: The Democratic Leadership Style gives members of the work group a vote or a
say in nearly every decision the team makes. When used effectively, the democratic leader builds
flexibility and responsibility and can help identify new ways to do things with fresh ideas. Care should
be taken due to the level of personal involvement required by this style and the decision making
process itself can be very time consuming.
Affiliative Leaders: The Affiliative Leadership Style is most effective in situations where morale is
low or teambuilding is needed. This leader is easily recognized by their theme of employee first.
Employees can expect much praise from this style; unfortunately, poor performance may also go
without reprimand.
#8195;
Authoritative Leaders: If your business seems to be drifting aimlessly, the Authoritative Leadership
Style can be very effective in this type of situation. The authoritative leader is an expert in dealing
with the problems and challenges at hand and can clearly identify goals that will lead to success. This
leader also allows the employees themselves to figure out the best way to achieve those goals.
Coercive Leaders: The Coercive Leadership Style should be used with caution because it is based on
the concept of command and

Anxiety, A Psychological, Physiological, And Behavioral...
The definition of anxiety is, a psychological, physiological, and behavioral state induced in animals
and humans by a threat to well being or survival, either actual or potential (Steimer, 2002). Anxiety is
expressed in humans through many different situations, such as having phobias resembling being
afraid of the dark when nothing threatening is there, or having social anxiety corresponding to being
nervous about interacting with others who they do not know. Many people will confuse anxiety with
fear, or use it interchangeably with fear, but there is a difference. Fear is a response to a threat that is
actually there, while anxiety is a learned response to a situation where the danger expressed itself. It
seems to have grown to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Why would this behavior have been developed in humans? There are particular explanations that can
explain this phenomenon. For one, anxiety was developed in an environment where there were many
actual dangers, such as predators, poisonous plants as well as many other threats that were constantly
in the human environment. Humans, as well as other animals in this environment, would probably
benefit more from developing mechanisms that would cause them to avoid taking unnecessary risks to
dangerous phenomenon, or to take proper precautions when doing so, such as traveling in groups for
protection. For example, humans may have developed anxiety towards being out in the dark because it
led to a higher likelihood for those humans to survive until they are able to reproduce, and that
children are anxious of monsters in the dark for the purpose of protection against actual predators that
would devour people and end their bloodlines if they wandered off alone. Humans may be anxious
about trying unusual foods because in ancient times, there were plenty of people that died or got sick
from eating poisonous foods. Socially, why would anxiety evolve in social situations with others? In
the times of our ancestors, if a person acted against the desires of her/his tribe, that person would risk
being punished, killed, or ostracized from the group, the latter of which may lead to almost

The Air Force Change Management
The Air Force is a component of the United States Department of Defense with numerous
responsibilities and combat capabilities. The broad scope of its military responsibilities has
necessitated a moderately flexible organizational structure, and a wide range of educational and
technical specialties. Obtaining the talent required to fill highly technical job openings has forced the
military to recruit civilian workers, resulting in a highly diverse work force. Although diversity and
flexibility provide the Air Force with significant advantages, these attributes also cause several
problems when leaders attempt to implement change. Researchers from RAND Corporation suggest

The department s leadership is responsible for providing appropriate manpower and resources to each
mission using an increasingly tight budget, while also following strict laws for high priority missions,
such as nuclear defense, which mandate both high levels of training and manpower (Air Education
Training Command, 2015). Additionally, warfare technology has become incredibly advanced. Due to
this complication, the educational and technical requirements for military service members and
employees are steadily increasing. education and contract diversity. Because of the wide gap in
educational requirements between each purpose the military fulfills, mission completion has
necessitated the recruiting of both active duty military members, and specialized civilian employees
and contractors. The increasing advanced requirements for cyberspace defense and weapon research
cannot be adequately met through an organizational model dependant on the recruiting of enlisted
members, who usually have an educational level no higher than high school, and officer members,
who often have not obtained an educational level higher than a baccalaureate prior to service entry.
The Air force needs traditional military members to maintain proficiency and command during
standard warfare operations. It needs highly technical positions, which the government can only hope
to effectively obtain from civilians, who naturally expect better pay and treatment

The Effects Of Long Distance Travel During The Era 1200
One of the most important effects of long distance travel in the era 1200 to 1500 was the famine that
started in 1315. The population lessened due to the lack of food and even when they did have food it
wasn t enough to stop their starvation. In the article Famine of 1315 it was stated: Four pennies worth
of coarse bread was not enough to feed a common man for one day. The usual kinds of meat, suitable
for eating, were too scarce; horse meat was precious; plump dogs were stolen. And, according to many
reports, men and women in many places secretly ate their own children.... ( The famine of 1315) It
showed how desperate people had become to stay alive. The food wasn t enough for the people to
survive due to the grains that weren t nourished during the summer, so it caused the famine during the
winter. People were stealing plump pets for meat so that they could have something that would
actually help their survival. Some people have even ate their own children, instead of having another
person to worry about feeding, they ate the children so they can survive. At the time it seemed to be
survival of the fittest if you are on the vulnerable side most likely they wouldn t stay alive, such as the
poor. Some of the poor had been laying stiff in the streets because they weren t able to feed themselves
and no one bothered to help them because they had their own hunger to worry about. The poor was
not even worst off, that would have been anyone that stayed in the cities. The rich

Asian Immigrants And The American Dream
The American Dream, a belief that draws immigrants to the US with the hope being able to work hard
for a better life. One of the groups that believe in this dream are Asian Immigrants. Children of these
Asian immigrants have a unique expectation to live up to. Their parents came to America in search of
a better life, so they are pushed to achieve this desired life. Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan exposes this
expectation through the stories of the character s childhoods. But in the real world, these standard
push Asian students to the top of their classes and centralized Asian student goals around their grades.
Some parents, for example, Amy Chua, have an even higher expectation for their children. Why
Chinese mothers are superior, tells of the stereotypical tiger mom, who expects the most of their
children, excelling them even further into the vision of the American dream. But even with all the
excellence the Asian students emits, university acceptance is another story. Articles like The model
minority is losing patience in the Economist and Justice Department investigating Harvard s
affirmative action policies by Susan Svrluga and Nick Anderson discuss the disadvantage Asians have
when applying to the top universities. With so many Asians prospering in school, the racial quotas
universities are suspected of having increase the difficulty for an Asian to be accepted. Because even

Abortion Is The Medical Process Of Ending A Pregnancy

In this paper I will concentrate on the opinion and stand point, of Christians Scholars that is for
abortions and Scholars that are against abortions. They will argue if abortions are morally acceptable.
I have also included the opinion of a pastor and how he feels what the bible say s about abortions. As I
continue with my research the answer if abortions are morally right or wrong was never agreed upon,
but by law it is legal.
The Argument in Defense of Abortion
Philosophers have attempted to justify abortion by denying that all abortions are intentional killing.
They have granted that an unborn human being has a right to live, but have then argued that this right
does not entail that the child in the womb is morally entitled to the use of the mother s body for life
support. In effect, their argument is that at least in many cases, abortion is not a case of intentionally
killing the child, but a choice not to provide the child with assistance, that is a choice to expel the
child from the womb, despite the likelihood or certainty that expulsion will result in his or her death.
(Judith Jarvis Thomas in 1971)
Famously, Thomas compared the mothers gestating a child to allowing someone the use of one s
kidneys, and others have compared gestation to donating an organ. We are not required to allow
someone to use our kidneys, or donate organs to others, even when they would die without this

The Value Of A Life

The Value of a Life Countries less privileged than America face the reoccurring issue of being taken
advantage of. This occurs because these countries have high unemployment rates and are in poverty so
they are given jobs through American factories. This process, though, is not always a fair one. Haiti
and China are both countries with bad labor regulations, usually by American influence, and this hurts
the welfare of these countries as a whole, the individuals in these countries, and the morality of
America. Dupuy (2014) writes that Haiti s people, trapped working in factories for cheap labor, are
faced with a hard life and various brutalities. Both adults and children must live these lives of horrible
situations where they have no other choice than to work at extremely low wages because of Haiti s
poverty levels. Whether they are sent away from their families to live in the city, in order to have a
better life, or they re born poor and go to the city to work everyday, these people do not live a good
life. The children who work have long hours, usually from early dawn until night, and go home,
sometimes only to be abused. (Dupuy, 2014). These conditions are put onto lonely, young, and
exhausted children who are not living with their families. But these conditions of long work hours in
Haiti do not only apply to children, but also young people and middle aged, too (Shah, 1998). The

Heroic Slave Rebel in Delaney s Blake or the Huts of America and Douglass Heroic Slave
The fundamental element of a successful slave rebellion is a heroic slave rebel. Madison Washington
of Frederick Douglass The Heroic Slave and Henry Blake of Martin Delany s Blake or the Huts of
America serve as models of that rebel. First, he must possess a will to stay and fight he must not be
content to just run away and gain individual freedom, abandoning his family and friends. Second, he
needs intelligence, and preferably education as well, to be able to organize large, complex plans of
rebellion. Finally, he must be a natural leader, drawing fellow slaves and free abolitionists to follow
him and fight for his cause. Throughout the novels, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But, as Madison explained to Mr. Listwell, freedom is not complete for some while their loved ones
are still held by the bondage of slavery. Sir, I could not be free with the galling thought that my poor
wife was still a slave. With her in slavery, my body, not my spirit, was free (Douglass 57). The duty he
felt towards his wife compelled Madison to travel back into the heart of the South to rescue his wife
and her fellow slaves, rather than remaining a runaway. Unfortunately for Madison, his plan to aid his
wife s escape failed and she was killed in the attempt. But, he knew that he could not have continued
life without at least attempting to gain her freedom. As he said to Mr. Listwell, I could neither work,
eat, nor sleep, till I resolved to hazard my own liberty, to gain that of my wife! (56). The force of
familial ties drove Madison back into slavery and to rebellion. After his wife s death, Madison found
himself once again a slave. He would lead a rebellion in which he eventually gained his freedom, but
he had no way of knowing that would happen at the time he abandoned his freedom for the sake of
her. Without this bond with his family, Madison Washington would have just stayed a runaway and
never would have become a heroic slave rebel.
Similarly, Henry Blake, throughout the first half of Blake, successfully ran away to Canada. Instead of
traveling alone, Blake took with him Mammy Judy,

Bilingual Education Is Important For Students
For this investigative assignment, I interviewed three of my closest friends about their perspectives on
bilingual education in the United States. One of my friends, who I will call A, said that bilingual
education is important for students because it helps them broaden their perspectives on the world.
Students are exposed to learn different cultures and respect them, promoting multiculturalism in our
country. A said that if students were only exposed to English only classroom setting, they would most
likely be ignorant of other cultures. She also told me about her experience when she was in an ESL
program during her middle school year. She described the program as useless because she and her
classmates learned broken English from each other. She somehow managed to get out of the program
and put herself into the mainstream English class. My other friend, who I will call B, stated that
bilingual education is helpful in developing a wider cultural perspective and cultivating a person
suitable for the globalized world. As a foreign born American and working as an international student
coordinator, she emphasizes the importance of acknowledging and respecting different cultures. She
believes that bilingual education can help students to achieve better knowledge on growing
multiculturalism in our country. My last interviewee, who I will call C, also believes that bilingual
education is important to cultivate young minds by helping them to respect not only their own but

Adrian Monk, portrayed by actor Tony Shalhoub, is the main character in the USA Network series
MONK. Monk is a former homicide detective for the San Francisco Police Department, suffering
from an anxiety disorder known as obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), as well as numerous
phobias. After Monk s wife was murdered, his disorder worsened leading to his suspension from the
police force. When the series opens, Monk works as a private police homicide consultant and

These symptoms never emerged in the series; rather, the viewer is led to believe that Mr. Monk had
OCD since he was born. However, the viewer is also informed in conversations with the police
sergeant and with Monk s nurse and therapist that what triggered this disorder was the murder of his
wife. Immediately after his wife died, his disorder worsened.
Outcome of Case
Monk s treatment was to go to Dr. Charles Kroger for psychotherapy that would aid him to cope with
his disorder. In the sessions, Mr. Monk talks about what he did during the day and the goals he
accomplished. The treatment is not entirely effective, but it helps Mr. Monk relax and get all the stress
out. In the long term, Mr. Monk cannot overcome his disorder because he cannot imagine that he can
be cured. In addition, he is not a risk taker, meaning he could never do anything that would make him
uncomfortable. Because of this, there is little hope that he will be able to completely overcome his
disorder. This makes sense because his disorder is inherited, and not attributed to environmental
causes.

Their Eyes Were Watching God Chapter 6 Summary
Chapter 6 of the novel Their Eyes Were Watching God, by Zora Hurston starts out by describing how
Janie detests running the store, but also how she finds some joy in listening to the bright stories the
townsfolk have on the porch. The guys there like to tease Matt Bonner a man with an overworked
good for nothing mule. Jody, regardless of Janie s wonderment in the stories, forbids her from
hanginging out with the trashy people out on the porch. Because of the men who constantly are
entranced by Janie s hair, Jody commands her to wear a head rag around her head due to his
overgrown jealousy. One day Matt Bonner s mule runs away and ends up outside of the store, where
some townsmen are torturing it for their own amusement. Janie does not like this and mutters her
disapproval, Jody hears her and decides to buy the mule for five dollars so it can finally be at peace.
After the mule finally dies, Jody has a mock funeral which turns into a town wide gathering, none of
which Janie is allowed to attend to. Later on at the store, Janie and Jody get into an argument where
she tells him that he is no fun, and he tells her that he is just trying to be responsible. As time goes on
the indignation that Janie holds for Jody only grows stronger. One day, Jody slaps Janie after seven
years of having met each other after a treacherous dinner. Later that same day, Mrs. Robbins begs
Jody for a little meat for her family which Jody spares. The men on the porch talk crudely about the

Toxic leadership can develop within Special Forces (SF) because of concern for compromising

crush a group of teammates who try to solve their toxic leadership issue through collective mutiny.

Love In Love And The Relationshipful Aspects Of Love
Throughout life, many individuals are blessed in certain aspects of their lives. These aspects could be
in love, fortunes, or life itself. Although people may be grateful for what they have it is common that
they will take these great aspects for granted. When people take these important and blessed aspects of
their lives for granted it pisses me off. I have been fortunate enough to have a great life and I have
been blessed in many ways. I am always sure to appreciate the people, materials, and life I have.
Unfortunately, I have seen people take their lives for granted, so it is my goal to try and make these
individuals realize the amazing lives they are blessed with. Relationships types vary with everyone.
Some people cling to their significant other while some prefer the distance. At times it can be hard to
find that balance where both individuals are happy. This challenge in a relationship could lead to poor
communication and a lack of effort. Recently, I have stepped out of a four year relationship because I
had finally come to realize how much I was being taken for granted and not appreciated. I was always
the one to make plans or start the conversation or show the affection that kept the relationship for
granted. After I decided to end the relationship my significant other began to realize what he had lost.
He frequently made comments on how people do not realize what they have until it is gone and I
found this to be very true in his case. Although what he was saying

History of Great Britain from 1950 Today
The first two years of the 1950 s were very eventful for Great Britain. After leading the British people
through a devastating war Winston Churchill was reelected Prime Minister (he would serve for
another five years) and the much loved King George VI would die in 1952. As the second son of
George V, Prince Albert (as George VI was known then) had not expected to be King. It was his older
brother Edward VIII who was in line to become the next king, but he abdicated in order to marry
Wallis Simpson a divorced American woman. When King George died on February 6th, 1952 his

Edward Heath of the Conservative party was elected to Prime Minister in 1970 following Harold

was making Britain a part of a larger European economy, and in 1973 he successfully persuaded the
European Economic Community (EEC) to accept Britain as a member, while at the same time he was
also trying to decrease the country s dependent relationship with the United States. In 1972 a coal
miners strike forced British industry, heavily dependent on coal rather than oil, into a temporary
decline as the government declared a state of emergency. Miner s wages had actually increased ahead
of inflation, but the miners as a group had a long and well known history of suffering at the hands of
government and mine owners, and public opinion in 1972 was in favor of the miners. The miners
eventually wrung major concessions out of the nationalized coal industry. Among the changes the

Albert Bandura s Theory Of Radical Behaviorism Theory
Parsimony is often regarded as one of the cornerstones in the evaluation of psychological constructs
and theories. Importantly, the condition of parsimony in itself presents a risk, potentially placing an
unnecessary limitation, when a more complex explanation may better reflect the overall complex
nature of the fundamental underlying concept that is under scrutiny (Epstein, 1984). Albert Bandura s
social cognitive theory and B. F. Skinner s theory of radical behaviourism have provided two of the
most influential contributions to psychology, and when examining Skinner and Bandura s theories,
this notion of parsimony becomes highly prevalent, as it is the most significant way in which the two
theories differ. This stark contrast in parsimony arises from the methodological differences between
the two theories in their treatment of the role of cognition. Skinner s theory asserts a situationalist
perspective of personality which is underpinned by the idea that all behaviour is purely deterministic
and solely caused by the environment, thus by consequence any learning of new behaviours or
personality occurs independently of the learner (Murphy, Maltby and Cloninger, 2010; Skinner, 1950).
By contrast, Bandura (Murphy, Maltby and Cloninger; 2010, Bandura, 2001, 2006) proposes a
dynamic perspective of personality which underpins the notion of reciprocal determinism,
encompassing a complex and dynamic interaction between personal factors (namely cognition),
behaviour and the

A Study On The Hydrological Cycle
II. Literature survey A. The Hydrological Cycle The central focus of any hydro meteorological study
is the hydrological cycle shown in Figure 2.1. The hydrological cycle has no beginning or end and its
many processes occur continuously (Chow et al., 1988). In describing the cycle, the water evaporates
from ocean and land surface to become part of atmosphere; water vapour is transported and lifted in
the atmosphere until it condenses and precipitates on the land or the oceans. Precipitated water may be
intercepted by vegetation, becomes overland flow over the ground surface, infiltrate into the ground,
flow through the soil as subsurface flow and discharges into streams as surface runoff. The infiltrated
water may percolate deeper to recharge groundwater, later emerging as spring and seeping into
streams to form surface runoff and finally flowing into the sea or evaporating into the atmosphere as
the hydrological cycle continues. Figure 2.1 Elements of the hydrologic cycle (freeze and cherry
1979) It is noted that though the concept of the cycle seems simple, the phenomena are enormously
complex and intricate. It is not just one large cycle but it is rather composed of many interrelated
cycles of continental, regional and local extent. The major achievement and objectives of the rainfall
runoff modelling is thus to study a part (section) of the hydrological cycle, namely the land phase of
the hydrological cycle on a catchment scale. Then the problem becomes to express the

Paul s Influence On Christianity
The Pauline epistles are the fourteen books in the New Testament traditionally attributed to Paul the
Apostle. There is wide consensus in modern New Testament scholarship on a core group of authentic
Pauline epistles whose authorship is rarely contested: Romans, 1 and 2 Corinthians, Galatians,
Philippians, 1 Thessalonians, and Philemon. The several other letters allegedly written by Paul lack
academic consensus: Ephesians, Colossians, 2 Thessalonians, 1 2 Timothy, and Titus. However, both
the real and the fake apostle Paul are of great importance to Christianity and played a major role in
spreading this new religion. Paul s influence on Christian thinking arguably has been more significant
than any other New Testament author. Paul declared that Christ is the end of the law , exalted the
Christian church as the body of Christ, and depicted the world outside the Church as under judgment.
It has been said that if it were not for Paul, Christianity would have remained a small unknown branch
of Judaism. Paul was the leading missionary to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Existence Of Evil By Blackburn Theory
Introduction: 53 In Blackburn theory I am going to argue that his theory the existence of evil strongly
suggests that there does not exist a God who is all good, all knowing and all powerful to be false. In
my argument I will try to present facts that show the existence of God and why there is evil.
Exposition: 313 In Blackburn s argument he basically mentions that because there is evil in the world
there is no existence of a present creator. It is impossible to see the suffering that s going on in the
world and suggest that it s a part of a good plan. Why would a creator of all good be able to stand by
and watch individuals suffer, and of all knowing and powerful why not put an end to all suffering at
once. Logically a creator of all good and all powerful would be able to put a stop to suffering and evil
immediately. Blackburn also mentions that religious individuals state that because of free will the
world is what it is today. The notion that God created a perfect world with humans having free will
and because of the misuse of that free will evil is present. Blackburn is against this idea total, he
mentioned we couldn t have free will without the influence of the past we can be free to do whatever
we want and potentially to be blame for it, but the will is the influence of the past so we basically
doing what the past tell us which is determinism. Blackburn also states that it s not only human
decisions that inflict evil

Secondary Employment Police Officers
Secondary employment for police officers should work fine if done properly. Usually, some officers
tend to overextend themselves and the top staff members are a concern if officers are suffering from
fatigue, however, there are positive and negative things from secondary employment. However, a
career path in law enforcement is known to be financially lacking for some city government to provide
for their officers, and secondary employment may be used as a recruiting tool to gain new officers.
Normally, officers need a second job such as the typical citizens do, for expenses, reduce debt, and
simply make ends meet (Brunet, J., 2008). Also, the idea of having more law enforcement officers
throughout the community and shopping mall produces a positive effect, such as deterring shoplifters.
Nonetheless, having secondary employment funds coming in on the regular will discourage police
corruption for some. Police officers working off duty jobs as security officers in some schools has help
ease parent s mind and placing their marked vehicles inconspicuous areas to deter criminal activity

Sigmund Freud s Civilization And Its Discontents
Sigmund Freud, in his book Civilization and Its Discontents, contests that humans are subject to
savage, animalistic instincts. He opposes the Marxist value that humans are superior to their animal
counterparts, rather, he holds, humans are quite like wolves to each other. With this claim, he explores
how internal compositions work in the grand scheme, to create a working mechanism of society that
tames and creates internal negotiations of behaviour and instinct. (also include what comes of the last
question) Freud, a psychologist, had views that were at odds with Marxist values, derived from a
philosopher and economist. Their views on what drives human nature are fundamentally different.
Freud adhered to the belief that humans are enslaved by their instinctive forces. This is to say that
humans are driven to seek out pleasure. Marx, on the other hand, believed that humans are motivated
by their place in society through labour. His core value was the division of labor, and how it structures
society. Freud understood man in a Darwinian sense, that man comes from natural selection, in the
sense that Darwin insisted on its [homo sapiens] kinship with lesser cousins and observed that the
stamp of [its] lowly origin was quite ineffaceable (12). This contrasts with the Marxist assumption that
humans are different from animals, the belief in human exceptionalism. Under this presumption, Marx
finds that abuse and violence occurs in consequence to disproportionate distributions

In 19th century, in the irrigation system, the sprinkler are used to irrigate the field, but there are certain
limitations of this system like the field is not properly irrigated. Because the water which will be
sprinkled is not properly captivated by field. In this method the proportion of water, essential
pesticides fertilizer is much more than they required. So it is not actually worthy method by
considering the low water resources. There are lots of confines in our traditional system viz,
1. Water is not appropriately scattered on field. In some case it deliver in large amount and in some
cases in low amount.
2. Fertilizers given to plants are not in proportion and well proficient.
The area of agriculture uses 83% of existing freshwater resources globally, and this percentage will
continue to be dominant in water consumption because of population growth and increased food
demand. There is

Arm Chair Lineman Research Paper
On any given Sunday, America has tens of thousands of arm chair quarterbacks sitting in their living
rooms calling the shots for the NFL teams of their choice, but the arm chair lineman is basically
unheard of. An effective offensive line is crucial to the success of any football team. Without a
working line, many quarterbacks and running backs would not have the successful careers they now
possess. The left tackle is the second highest paid player in the NFL, according to an article in the
magazine Bleacher Report (Salman, 2008). The exorbitant salary received by left tackles illustrates the
organization s understanding of the necessity for a powerful offensive line. The work of the offensive
line is to provide protection and create time for other players to make decisions and follow through
with game changing plays. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If he does not follow his blockers, he will have a much greater chance of getting tackled for a loss of
yards. On a pass play, the quarterback relies on the offensive line to give him the time he needs to read
the defense and put the ball where the wide receiver can catch it. If the offensive line does not block,
then the quarterback will be sacked for a loss of yards, or he will make a bad decision and throw an
interception, thus resulting in a loss of possession or, even worse, a pick six, which is a touchdown for
the opposing team. If the offensive line does their jobs correctly, big plays are guaranteed to

Oprah Winfrey Changed Society
A Show That Changed The American Society
How has Oprah Winfrey affected others? Oprah Winfrey moved many people and changed how some
people live: she affected people s life in a good way. She had a rough life early on, but people see who
she became and how great she actually is. Oprah Winfrey changed society because of her motivational
attitude on the Oprah Winfrey Show. It s almost showtime at the Rosemont horizon. One of Chicago s
most cavernous arenas is filled to the brim for a Lionel Richie concert. Suddenly an agitated murmur
echoes through the hall (Most Talked about tv host 5). A star has been spotted amidst the Richie
worshippers. As word of the celebrity sighting spreads, the crowds murmur swells to a loud rhythmic
chant, OPRAH! OPRAH! OPRAH! Finally Oprah Winfrey is coaxed into hopping onto a chair. She
waved vigorously and crowd erupts into a minute long ovation. Oprah Winfrey has indeed arrived.
For some people holding the same position in their career for a long time signifies success. In
television however, it is necessary to move on to bigger and better things. With all of her experience
and success so far, she began to dream bigger. She wanted to host a show by herself but where? She
felt cared for and natural in Baltimore where she grew up, but it was time to move on. Despite the
advice of co workers Oprah accepted a job as host of A.M Chicago with a $200,000 a year salary and
a 4 year unbreakable contract. Everybody kept telling me that it was going to be impossible to succeed
because I was going into Phil Donahue s hometown. She moved to Chicago in December of 1983. By
being herself and featuring interesting guests and topics Oprah won viewers.
In 1985 Oprah fulfilled a second aspiration acting in a movie. During casting for the film The Color
Purple, the co producer Quincy Jones happened to me in a Chicago hotel. While eating breakfast and
flipping channels he stopped on the A.M Chicago show and was impressed with Oprah s vibrant
personality. Jones knew she would be perfect as Sofia in the movie. Oprah had read the book in
Baltimore in 1982 and had bought dozens of copies to give as gifts. It was one of her favorite works of
fiction. In describing her role as Sofia,

A Shooting Massacre Occurred Of San Bernardino California
A shooting massacre happened in San Bernardino California in last December shocked
the world. After the massacre, President Obama made a very quick statement, and he
emphasized that the U. S. should control the guns more strictly and make each effort
to decrease the crimes related to the firearms. Although the gun enthusiasts refute this
proposal, and assert that the individuals should carry guns in terms of defense, I believe that
the best way to protect the citizens from murdered by weapon is to make the weapons
unavailable to the individuals.
First of all, as the gun advocates point out, the Amendment 2nd give the citizens the
rights to own arms. In fact, even though the constitution makes it clear that owning weapons
doesn t violate the law, the Amendment is not intended to encourage people to carry a pistol
without any restriction. The reason is simple and understandable, with the development of the
military technology, we should notice that carrying a gun is more dangerous in the modern
society than in the past because the advanced and mass destruction firearms are designed and
manufactured these days. Thus, it is convenient and effective to kill more innocent people
than the time when the constitution was drafted. If the government does not take the strong
and effective methods to restrict the procession of the weapons of the mass destruction, the
shooting massacre would be increased instead of being decreased in the future.

1. Bobby Boris Pickett The Monster Mash (1962) The Monster Mash might seem a little hokey now,
but it was a graveyard smash when it was released in August 1962 and became a #1 single on the Hot

Spooky Classic IV (1968) This song tells us that somebody traveled into the future and met a Goth
chick, a spooky gal. Classic IV s single, Spooky , soared to #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United
States and arrived at #46 in the United Kingdom s chart. This shout out tune to all the spooky girls is a
nifty asset to add to your Halloween sounds collection.
12. Bad Moon Rising Creedence Clearwater Revival (1969) This tune was written by John Fogerty,
reportedly after he watched The Devil and Daniel Webster . This well loved classic rock song has been
covered by numerous bands subsequent to it s release by Creedence Clearwater Revival in many
different musical styles.
13. Sympathy for the Devil The Rolling Stones (1968) Sympathy for The Devil is among one of the
Rolling Stones darker tunes, but it s not performed in a traditionally spooky way, as it s quite upbeat.
However, the content is dark and is sung from the point of the view of the devil, who introduces
himself and tells you a little bit about his long life. This song is a splendid Halloween playlist must
have!

Analysis Of The Book The Book Of Titus
Paul is the author of the book of Titus. The book of Titus was written around the years 63 65 A.D. The
letter was addressed to Titus who was a gentile and a companion of Paul. Paul called Titus his True
son . Titus along with First and Second Timothy are called Pastoral Epistles. The reason for being
categorized that way is because the letters emphasizes the reason for having leaders within the church.
(Votaw, Clyde W. pg.130 38) The book s theme is instructions to Titus on how to run the churches in
Crete and to encourage Titus in faith. The first readers of this letter would be Titus, some of the
leaders within the Crete churches, Zenas and Apollos who Paul gave the letter to give of Titus. Paul
and Titus most likely visited Crete ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Bright, Hilda, and Helen Pocock.) The Minoans were the first advanced society in Europe s history.
The Minoans were found throughout mainland Greece and throughout the Mediterranean Sea and the
island of Crete. Around the year 6500 the Cretans were documented in hunting, fishing, and engaged
in pagan worship. In the year 3000 B.C. and the years following, immigrants from Northern Africa
came to Crete. They were skilled in Bronze making. This would soon lead to the Bronze Age and the
Greek empire would grow and become more powerful. In the years after 2000 B.C. is when most of
the palaces and the other artifacts that are still visible today were made. (Kyriakopoulos, Victoria. pg.
23 24)
During the time that Paul and Titus were there, the Cretans were at a deplorable moral level. They
were dishonest, gluttonous, and lazy. Titus had to overcome their way of life and preach the Gospel to
them. Some of the offices that were within the church were not being taken seriously, so, Paul listed
certain attributes that an elder must possess. The modern day bishop most likely would be comparable
to a deacon in some protestant churches and a bishop in the Catholic Church. (Votaw, Clyde W. pg.
130 38) The role of an elder in this day in time would have to be hospitable and friendly. During this
age and time, Inns were dirty and unkept. If you were a traveler you would want someone of offer you
a place to stay.

The Duchess Alternate Ending
It was the White Rabbit, trotting slowly back again, and looking anxiously about as it went, as if it had
lost something; and she heard it muttering to itself `The Duchess! The Duchess! Oh my dear paws! Oh
my fur and whiskers! She ll get me executed, as sure as ferrets are ferrets! Where CAN I have dropped
them, I wonder? Alice guessed in a moment that it was looking for the fan and the pair of white kid
gloves, and she very good naturedly began hunting about for them, but they were nowhere to be seen
everything seemed to have changed since her swim in the pool, and the great hall, with the glass table
and the little door, had vanished completely. Very soon the Rabbit noticed Alice, as she went hunting
about, and called out to her in an angry tone, `Why, Mary Ann, what ARE you doing out here? Run
home this moment, and fetch me a pair of gloves and a fan! Quick, now! And Alice was so much
frightened that she ran off at once in the direction it pointed to, without trying to explain the mistake it
had made. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

hurried upstairs, in great fear lest she should meet the real Mary Ann, and be turned out of the house
before she had found the fan and gloves. `How queer it seems, Alice said to herself, `to be going
messages for a rabbit! I suppose Dinah ll be sending me on messages next! And she began fancying
the sort of thing that would happen: ` Miss Alice! Come here directly, and get ready for your walk!

Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD)
Brain disorders are categorized as major health conditions based on the fact that the brain is the
control center of the body. Brain disorders come in many forms and at times are difficult to diagnose
based on their complexity. A very rare degenerately unchangeable brain disorder of the central nervous
system is Creutzfeldt Jakob disease (CJD). Creutzfeldt Jakob disease affects one person in a million
within a population that is worldwide (Llorens et al., 2015). The USA is known to have two hundred
cases of patients diagnosed with Creutzfeldt Jakob disease each year (Llorens et al., 2015). Although
the disease is very rare, it is very deadly because after onset of symptoms of the disease the patient
usually passes after a year of diagnosis. Most patients develop the disease around their sixties and
typically only have one year left to live (Head et al., 2009). CJD can be categorized etiologically as
sporadic, infectious, and inherited neurodegenerative disorder due to the misfolded proteins making it
very unique. Symptoms in clinical trials of CJD have consisted of rapid onset of progressive dementia,
involuntary muscle contractions, inability to balance, cognitive impairment and visual deterioration
(Gozke et al., 2008). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pain alleviation along with suppression of other symptoms are priority w/ selection of the proper drug
to aid the patient. None of the selected treatments have been conclusively shown to slow or halt the
disease process. Sodium valproate is often administered to patient with CJD. Sodium valproate issues
its effectiveness in that it reduced cortical myoclonus, or irregular short duration jerks and seizures in
patients with the disease (Vetrugno et al, 2014). Reduction is achieved when because the sodium
valproate poses as an agent that increases cortical gamma amino butyric acid. Typically, patients
display a response when administered a dose between 1 and 2.5 grams. For psychiatric symptoms of
CJD, patients are prescribed Quetiapine. This particular drug has the ability to block 5HT1 and 5HT2
receptors, leaving adrenergic and H1 receptors more exposed (Vetrugno et al, 2014) 5HT1 and 2
receptors which stand for 5 hydroxytryptamine are G protein coupled. These receptors are specifically
responsible for binding w/ the neurotransmitter serotonin. With Quetiapine, sides effect similar to
Parkinson s are less prevalent in patients. With pains symptoms, drugs such as Gabapentin and
amitriptyline has proven to be effective. Pain in patients with CJD often occur in the thalamic origin,
within the limbs, and through hyperesthesia

Ned Kelly Cruelty
Such is life These words is thought to be Ned Kelly s last before he was hanged for his crimes. But
who was Ned Kelly? What did Ned do that he deserved to be hanged? Why was Ned important? To
many Ned Kelly is seen as a hero, to others he was seen as a villain but in either event he changed
what would later be Australia. Was Ned Kelly good or bad? Before we understand Ned s story we
must understand Austraila before Ned. Australia was first inhabited by the Aborigonals (the
indigenous people) and was left alone by the outside world until Europeans first had set sail for the
country at around 1606. Between 1606 and 1770 an estimated 54 European ships had came to
Australia. Most of these European ships were from the Dutch East India Company and for a small
time became New Holland. It wasn t until August of 1770 that somebody officially claimed Australia
his name was Lieutenant James Cook. Cook had claimed Australia in the name for King George the
Third and renamed Australia to New South Wales. Once claimed, two fleets came to Australia the first
had eleven ships with about 1,350 people on it. The second fleet had provided food and supplies that
were badly needed but many on the second fleet were ill and many were near death. None of the
people on the second fleet were helpful to the colonies. One thing to note is that many of the people
getting sent to Australia were pervious convicts not only that, but in 1790 there was one woman to
four men. This made making a new colony

Bruno Bettelheim
In Bruno Bettelheim s essay, The Child s Need for Magic , he talks about how a child and an adult s
ways of viewing the world and answering questions can differ. Bettelheim says that adults use science
to figure out why certain things happen, while a child uses stories they hear to figure out the reason of
why certain things happen. The examples Bettelheim uses for stories a child could hear are myths,
fairy tales, and the Bible, which he says can be distinguish from each other by the way they solve
problems. In the author s point of view, myths have one set fictional way of solving a problem, fairy
tales can have multiple ways to solve a problem, and the Bible gives hope to people that if they act a
certain way to situations their problems will be solved for them. ... Show more content on

Bettelheim says that, Fairy tales leave to the child s fantasizing whether and how to apply to himself
what the story reveals about life and human nature (319). This means that the child will use things he
sees in the fairy to explain how to deal with certain situations. One example Bettelheim uses for this is
how a kid will try to talk to a new person who sees scary at first, because in some fairy tales the scary
looking characters can have a kind personality under their looks and the main character will usually

Vaughan United Sates Air Force Senior Non Commissioned Officer Academy November 5th, 2014 Senior Master Sergeant Esteban Martinez Visionary and Ethical Leadership of General Curtis LeMay It s late afternoon on March 9th, 1945. The sun was shining brightly through a scattered deck of clouds dotting the sky and there was a refreshing northeasterly breeze coming off the surrounding waters. General Curtis LeMay is standing in the thick tropical air of Northwest Field on the small Pacific island of Guam. He watches as over three hundred B 29 Superfortress bombers launch northward towards Tokyo where they will use new and unproven tactics for delivering the most devastating firebombing campaign in history. Through General LeMay s vision and innovation he changed established doctrine of how bombers should operate in the European and Pacific theaters and enabled untold successes but at what cost to American values and law? My purpose is to show that General LeMay was a tremendous visionary leader although he made unethical choices and that I have been able to see times in my life where principles of his actions resonated with me. LeMay was a visionary leader due to his ability to adapt and win current wars while keeping the foresight to look ahead at what was needed to shape the Air Force to deter or win future wars. • 4. Essay On Boeing Executive Summary In fierce competition with Boeing, venture into VLA segment as a rather neglected segment by Boeing could pose as a strategic opportunity for Airbus which it could utilize to build a competitive advantage combined with its technological resources and capabilities. However, its assumptions of a drastic increase in VLAs demanded in next 20 years along with its ability to satisfy most of this are too optimistic. Provided that these assumptions (inc. breakeven points, initial order requirements) are normalized, A3XX is a project worthy to pursue for Airbus in order to exploit a neglected spot on the perceptional map long haul + big capacity. We don t have a market risk premium value at hand for aviation sector but even if it is 15% the rate of return Airbus presumes then 3.9% + 0.84X(15 3.9) = 13.2. So the project seems feasible. However, when we apply the operating margin of 15% 20% as the source of cash flow per plane, we see that from 288 to 385 planes would be needed for a breakeven to compensate investment costs. If we also take into consideration of the fact that these payments will not be made all in the first year, each cash flow will need to be discounted based on real interest rate (3.9%) and the year in question. We can easily say, if the plane price is not appropriated accordingly each year, the breakeven point will go even farther away from what Airbus imagined. As for competition, Boeing had built approximately 85% of the industry s current fleet, which indicates the high experience and brand awareness of Boeing in the industry, which is a competitive advantage in terms of strong service level. 747 400 is the only model that can be seen as an alternative to the new Airbus VLA models. Liberalism Will Inevitably Lead To Peace And Security For All Essay Topic: The global reach of liberalism will inevitably lead to peace and security for all what are the grounds for this argument? Answer: Liberalism is a theory of international relations with a view point that human is born good and free. In this question will require a discussion on the Democratic Peace Theory which was emphasised after the Cold War and the fall of the Soviet Union. The main argument was that democratic states tend not to fight other democratic states. This theory has been associated largely with writings of Michael Doyle and Bruce Russet. It is wrong for one democratic nation to wage war against another democratic nation. For Kant s this league of does not seek any power of sort possessed by any nation, but only the maintenance and security of each nation s own freedom . Doyle will later expand on this proposition that liberal states have a unique ability and willingness to establish peaceful relations among themselves. The second key assumption of liberalism on which peace and security can be achieved is the practice of free trade among nations. The mercantilist period of history is linked to the rise of the modern nations in Europe. This period could be described as the time which nations were focused narrowly on gaining wealth and discouraging imports. The mercantilist policies included restrictions on import and development of colonial empires. Mercantilist view was that of the Louis XIV s finance Minister, Jean Baptist Colbert who said trade is a source of finance and finance is the vital nerve of war According Carr the aim of mercantilism was not to promote the welfare of the community and its members but to augment the power of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Why would this behavior have been developed in humans? There are particular explanations that can explain this phenomenon. For one, anxiety was developed in an environment where there were many actual dangers, such as predators, poisonous plants as well as many other threats that were constantly in the human environment. Humans, as well as other animals in this environment, would probably benefit more from developing mechanisms that would cause them to avoid taking unnecessary risks to dangerous phenomenon, or to take proper precautions when doing so, such as traveling in groups for protection. For example, humans may have developed anxiety towards being out in the dark because it led to a higher likelihood for those humans to survive until they are able to reproduce, and that children are anxious of monsters in the dark for the purpose of protection against actual predators that would devour people and end their bloodlines if they wandered off alone. Humans may be anxious about trying unusual foods because in ancient times, there were plenty of people that died or got sick from eating poisonous foods. Socially, why would anxiety evolve in social situations with others? In the article Famine of 1315 it was stated: Four pennies worth of coarse bread was not enough to feed a common man for one day. They have granted that an unborn human being has a right to live, but have then argued that this right does not entail that the child in the womb is morally entitled to the use of the mother s body for life support. In effect, their argument is that at least in many cases, abortion is not a case of intentionally killing the child, but a choice not to provide the child with assistance, that is a choice to expel the child from the womb, despite the likelihood or certainty that expulsion will result in his or her death. The Value Of A Life Kathleen Sullivan Professor Janice Shiu GOVT 35 23 September 2014 The Value of a Life Countries less privileged than America face the reoccurring issue of being taken advantage of. This occurs because these countries have high unemployment rates and are in poverty so they are given jobs through American factories. This process, though, is not always a fair one. Haiti and China are both countries with bad labor regulations, usually by American influence, and this hurts the welfare of these countries as a whole, the individuals in these countries, and the morality of America. Dupuy (2014) writes that Haiti s people, trapped working in factories for cheap labor, are faced with a hard life and various brutalities. Both adults and children must live these lives of horrible situations where they have no other choice than to work at extremely low wages because of Haiti s poverty levels. Whether they are sent away from their families to live in the city, in order to have a better life, or they re born poor and go to the city to work everyday, these people do not live a good life. The children who work have long hours, usually from early dawn until night, and go home, sometimes only to be abused. (Dupuy, 2014). But, as Madison explained to Mr. Listwell, freedom is not complete for some while their loved ones are still held by the bondage of slavery. Sir, I could not be free with the galling thought that my poor wife was still a slave. With her in slavery, my body, not my spirit, was free (Douglass 57). The duty he felt towards his wife compelled Madison to travel back into the heart of the South to rescue his wife and her fellow slaves, rather than remaining a runaway. Unfortunately for Madison, his plan to aid his wife s escape failed and she was killed in the attempt. But, he knew that he could not have continued life without at least attempting to gain her freedom. As he said to Mr. Listwell, I could neither work, eat, nor sleep, till I resolved to hazard my own liberty, to gain that of my wife! (56). The force of familial ties drove Madison back into slavery and to rebellion. After his wife s death, Madison found himself once again a slave. He would lead a rebellion in which he eventually gained his freedom, but he had no way of knowing that would happen at the time he abandoned his freedom for the sake of her. Without this bond with his family, Madison Washington would have just stayed a runaway and never would have become a heroic slave rebel. • 29. Albert Bandura s Theory Of Radical Behaviorism Theory Parsimony is often regarded as one of the cornerstones in the evaluation of psychological constructs and theories. Importantly, the condition of parsimony in itself presents a risk, potentially placing an unnecessary limitation, when a more complex explanation may better reflect the overall complex nature of the fundamental underlying concept that is under scrutiny (Epstein, 1984). Albert Bandura s social cognitive theory and B. F. Skinner s theory of radical behaviourism have provided two of the most influential contributions to psychology, and when examining Skinner and Bandura s theories, this notion of parsimony becomes highly prevalent, as it is the most significant way in which the two theories differ. This stark contrast in parsimony arises from the methodological differences between the two theories in their treatment of the role of cognition. Skinner s theory asserts a situationalist perspective of personality which is underpinned by the idea that all behaviour is purely deterministic and solely caused by the environment, thus by consequence any learning of new behaviours or personality occurs independently of the learner (Murphy, Maltby and Cloninger, 2010; Skinner, 1950). By contrast, Bandura (Murphy, Maltby and Cloninger; 2010, Bandura, 2001, 2006) proposes a dynamic perspective of personality which underpins the notion of reciprocal determinism, encompassing a complex and dynamic interaction between personal factors (namely cognition), behaviour and the ... • 30. A Study On The Hydrological Cycle II. Literature survey A. The Hydrological Cycle The central focus of any hydro meteorological study is the hydrological cycle shown in Figure 2.1. The hydrological cycle has no beginning or end and its many processes occur continuously (Chow et al., 1988). In describing the cycle, the water evaporates from ocean and land surface to become part of atmosphere; water vapour is transported and lifted in the atmosphere until it condenses and precipitates on the land or the oceans. Precipitated water may be intercepted by vegetation, becomes overland flow over the ground surface, infiltrate into the ground, flow through the soil as subsurface flow and discharges into streams as surface runoff. The infiltrated water may percolate deeper to recharge groundwater, later emerging as spring and seeping into streams to form surface runoff and finally flowing into the sea or evaporating into the atmosphere as the hydrological cycle continues. Figure 2.1 Elements of the hydrologic cycle (freeze and cherry 1979) It is noted that though the concept of the cycle seems simple, the phenomena are enormously complex and intricate. It is not just one large cycle but it is rather composed of many interrelated cycles of continental, regional and local extent. The major achievement and objectives of the rainfall runoff modelling is thus to study a part (section) of the hydrological cycle, namely the land phase of the hydrological cycle on a catchment scale. There is wide consensus in modern New Testament scholarship on a core group of authentic Pauline epistles whose authorship is rarely contested: Romans, 1 and 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Philippians, 1 Thessalonians, and Philemon. The several other letters allegedly written by Paul lack academic consensus: Ephesians, Colossians, 2 Thessalonians, 1 2 Timothy, and Titus. However, both the real and the fake apostle Paul are of great importance to Christianity and played a major role in spreading this new religion. Paul declared that Christ is the end of the law , exalted the Christian church as the body of Christ, and depicted the world outside the Church as under judgment. • 33. The Existence Of Evil By Blackburn Theory Introduction: 53 In Blackburn theory I am going to argue that his theory the existence of evil strongly suggests that there does not exist a God who is all good, all knowing and all powerful to be false. In my argument I will try to present facts that show the existence of God and why there is evil. Exposition: 313 In Blackburn s argument he basically mentions that because there is evil in the world there is no existence of a present creator. It is impossible to see the suffering that s going on in the world and suggest that it s a part of a good plan. Why would a creator of all good be able to stand by and watch individuals suffer, and of all knowing and powerful why not put an end to all suffering at once. Logically a creator of all good and all powerful would be able to put a stop to suffering and evil immediately. Blackburn also mentions that religious individuals state that because of free will the world is what it is today. The notion that God created a perfect world with humans having free will and because of the misuse of that free will evil is present. Blackburn is against this idea total, he mentioned we couldn t have free will without the influence of the past we can be free to do whatever we want and potentially to be blame for it, but the will is the influence of the past so we basically doing what the past tell us which is determinism. He opposes the Marxist value that humans are superior to their animal counterparts, rather, he holds, humans are quite like wolves to each other. With this claim, he explores how internal compositions work in the grand scheme, to create a working mechanism of society that tames and creates internal negotiations of behaviour and instinct. (also include what comes of the last question) Freud, a psychologist, had views that were at odds with Marxist values, derived from a philosopher and economist. Their views on what drives human nature are fundamentally different. Freud adhered to the belief that humans are enslaved by their instinctive forces. This is to say that humans are driven to seek out pleasure. Marx, on the other hand, believed that humans are motivated by their place in society through labour. His core value was the division of labor, and how it structures society. Freud understood man in a Darwinian sense, that man comes from natural selection, in the sense that Darwin insisted on its [homo sapiens] kinship with lesser cousins and observed that the stamp of [its] lowly origin was quite ineffaceable (12). • 42. Arm Chair Lineman Research Paper On any given Sunday, America has tens of thousands of arm chair quarterbacks sitting in their living rooms calling the shots for the NFL teams of their choice, but the arm chair lineman is basically unheard of. An effective offensive line is crucial to the success of any football team. Without a working line, many quarterbacks and running backs would not have the successful careers they now possess. The left tackle is the second highest paid player in the NFL, according to an article in the magazine Bleacher Report (Salman, 2008). The exorbitant salary received by left tackles illustrates the organization s understanding of the necessity for a powerful offensive line. The work of the offensive line is to provide protection and create time for other players to make decisions and follow through with game changing plays. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If he does not follow his blockers, he will have a much greater chance of getting tackled for a loss of yards. On a pass play, the quarterback relies on the offensive line to give him the time he needs to read the defense and put the ball where the wide receiver can catch it. If the offensive line does not block, then the quarterback will be sacked for a loss of yards, or he will make a bad decision and throw an interception, thus resulting in a loss of possession or, even worse, a pick six, which is a touchdown for the opposing team. If the offensive line does their jobs correctly, big plays are guaranteed to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Oprah Winfrey Changed Society A Show That Changed The American Society How has Oprah Winfrey affected others? Oprah Winfrey moved many people and changed how some people live: she affected people s life in a good way. She had a rough life early on, but people see who she became and how great she actually is. Oprah Winfrey changed society because of her motivational attitude on the Oprah Winfrey Show. It s almost showtime at the Rosemont horizon. One of Chicago s most cavernous arenas is filled to the brim for a Lionel Richie concert. Suddenly an agitated murmur echoes through the hall (Most Talked about tv host 5). A star has been spotted amidst the Richie worshippers. As word of the celebrity sighting spreads, the crowds murmur swells to a loud rhythmic chant, OPRAH! OPRAH! OPRAH! Finally Oprah Winfrey is coaxed into hopping onto a chair. She waved vigorously and crowd erupts into a minute long ovation. Oprah Winfrey has indeed arrived. For some people holding the same position in their career for a long time signifies success. In television however, it is necessary to move on to bigger and better things. With all of her experience and success so far, she began to dream bigger. She wanted to host a show by herself but where? She felt cared for and natural in Baltimore where she grew up, but it was time to move on. Despite the advice of co workers Oprah accepted a job as host of A.M Chicago with a $200,000 a year salary and a 4 year unbreakable contract. Everybody kept telling me that it was going to be impossible to succeed because I was going into Phil Donahue s hometown. She moved to Chicago in December of 1983. By being herself and featuring interesting guests and topics Oprah won viewers. In 1985 Oprah fulfilled a second aspiration acting in a movie. During casting for the film The Color Purple, the co producer Quincy Jones happened to me in a Chicago hotel. While eating breakfast and flipping channels he stopped on the A.M Chicago show and was impressed with Oprah s vibrant personality. Jones knew she would be perfect as Sofia in the movie. Oprah had read the book in Baltimore in 1982 and had bought dozens of copies to give as gifts. It was one of her favorite works of fiction. In describing her role as Sofia, ... • 44. A Shooting Massacre Occurred Of San Bernardino California A shooting massacre happened in San Bernardino California in last December shocked the world. After the massacre, President Obama made a very quick statement, and he emphasized that the U. S. should control the guns more strictly and make each effort to decrease the crimes related to the firearms. Although the gun enthusiasts refute this proposal, and assert that the individuals should carry guns in terms of defense, I believe that the best way to protect the citizens from murdered by weapon is to make the weapons unavailable to the individuals. First of all, as the gun advocates point out, the Amendment 2nd give the citizens the rights to own arms. In fact, even though the constitution makes it clear that owning weapons doesn t violate the law, the Amendment is not intended to encourage people to carry a pistol without any restriction. The reason is simple and understandable, with the development of the military technology, we should notice that carrying a gun is more dangerous in the modern society than in the past because the advanced and mass destruction firearms are designed and manufactured these days. Thus, it is convenient and effective to kill more innocent people than the time when the constitution was drafted. If the government does not take the strong and effective methods to restrict the procession of the weapons of the mass destruction, the shooting massacre would be increased instead of being decreased in the future. ... The Duchess Alternate Ending It was the White Rabbit, trotting slowly back again, and looking anxiously about as it went, as if it had lost something; and she heard it muttering to itself `The Duchess! • 48. Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD) Brain disorders are categorized as major health conditions based on the fact that the brain is the control center of the body. Brain disorders come in many forms and at times are difficult to diagnose based on their complexity. A very rare degenerately unchangeable brain disorder of the central nervous system is Creutzfeldt Jakob disease (CJD). Creutzfeldt Jakob disease affects one person in a million within a population that is worldwide (Llorens et al., 2015). The USA is known to have two hundred cases of patients diagnosed with Creutzfeldt Jakob disease each year (Llorens et al., 2015). Although the disease is very rare, it is very deadly because after onset of symptoms of the disease the patient usually passes after a year of diagnosis. Most patients develop the disease around their sixties and typically only have one year left to live (Head et al., 2009). CJD can be categorized etiologically as sporadic, infectious, and inherited neurodegenerative disorder due to the misfolded proteins making it very unique. Symptoms in clinical trials of CJD have consisted of rapid onset of progressive dementia, involuntary muscle contractions, inability to balance, cognitive impairment and visual deterioration (Gozke et al., 2008). ... Sodium valproate issues its effectiveness in that it reduced cortical myoclonus, or irregular short duration jerks and seizures in patients with the disease (Vetrugno et al, 2014). Reduction is achieved when because the sodium valproate poses as an agent that increases cortical gamma amino butyric acid. Typically, patients display a response when administered a dose between 1 and 2.5 grams. For psychiatric symptoms of CJD, patients are prescribed Quetiapine. This particular drug has the ability to block 5HT1 and 5HT2 receptors, leaving adrenergic and H1 receptors more exposed (Vetrugno et al, 2014) 5HT1 and 2 receptors which stand for 5 hydroxytryptamine are G protein coupled. These receptors are specifically responsible for binding w/ the neurotransmitter serotonin. With Quetiapine, sides effect similar to Parkinson s are less prevalent in patients. Why was Ned important? To many Ned Kelly is seen as a hero, to others he was seen as a villain but in either event he changed what would later be Australia. Was Ned Kelly good or bad? Before we understand Ned s story we must understand Austraila before Ned. Australia was first inhabited by the Aborigonals (the indigenous people) and was left alone by the outside world until Europeans first had set sail for the country at around 1606. Between 1606 and 1770 an estimated 54 European ships had came to Australia. Most of these European ships were from the Dutch East India Company and for a small time became New Holland. It wasn t until August of 1770 that somebody officially claimed Australia his name was Lieutenant James Cook. Cook had claimed Australia in the name for King George the Third and renamed Australia to New South Wales. Once claimed, two fleets came to Australia the first had eleven ships with about 1,350 people on it. The second fleet had provided food and supplies that were badly needed but many on the second fleet were ill and many were near death. None of the people on the second fleet were helpful to the colonies. One thing to note is that many of the people getting sent to Australia were pervious convicts not only that, but in 1790 there was one woman to four men. This made making a new colony ... Bettelheim says that adults use science to figure out why certain things happen, while a child uses stories they hear to figure out the reason of why certain things happen. The examples Bettelheim uses for stories a child could hear are myths, fairy tales, and the Bible, which he says can be distinguish from each other by the way they solve problems.
