Essay Mahatma Gandhi Hindi
Writing an essay on the topic "Essay Mahatma Gandhi Hindi" can be both challenging and
rewarding. On one hand, Mahatma Gandhi is a widely revered figure, and his contributions to
India's independence and his philosophy of non-violence provide a rich and vast subject matter.
However, the difficulty lies in capturing the essence of his life, beliefs, and impact in a coherent
and concise manner, particularly when focusing on the Hindi language.
The complexity of the task increases as one delves into the nuances of translating Gandhi's
principles into Hindi, ensuring that the cultural and linguistic context is appropriately conveyed.
Balancing historical facts, philosophical insights, and linguistic intricacies requires a thorough
understanding of both the subject matter and the language itself. Additionally, finding the right
tone to convey the reverence and respect due to such an iconic figure while maintaining a
scholarly and analytical approach can pose a considerable challenge.
Moreover, the essay should not just be a compilation of information but should also reflect the
author's interpretation and analysis of Gandhi's impact on Hindi literature and culture. This
involves delving into the influence Gandhi had on the development of Hindi as a language and
exploring how his ideas resonated within the Hindi-speaking population.
In conclusion, while writing an essay on the topic "Essay Mahatma Gandhi Hindi," one must
navigate the intricate balance between historical accuracy, linguistic proficiency, and insightful
analysis. It demands a deep appreciation for the subject and a skillful command of the Hindi
language. The process can be arduous, but the opportunity to contribute to the understanding and

Cause And Effect Of Tsunamis
On December 26th, 2004, one of the largest megathrust earthquakes ever recorded
struck the coast of Indonesia. The energy released was equivalent to the eruption of
23,000 Hiroshima sized atomic bombs (Pickrell, 2005). Dangerous waves, known as
tsunamis, began radiating from the epicenter crashing into the shores of 11 Indian
Ocean countries. Destruction occurred reaching countries in Africa to Thailand (Risk
Management Solutions, 2006). Thailand was hit by the tsunamiapproximately 90
minutes after the initial earthquake, killing hundreds of thousands of people (Lusted,
2008). The waves of the tsunami reached heights of four to 39 meters, travelling up
to five kilometers inland. Due to the flat topography of the Banda Aceh region, wave
height was approximately four to eight meters, whereas height in the hilly areas was
larger (Cluff, 2008).
Causes
Tsunamis
A tsunami is a series of waves that are produced by large oceanic earthquakes or
volcanic eruptions at tectonic plate boundaries. These waves may reach 100 feet
and cause extensive damage in areas that are densely populated, especially if
proper warning systems are lacking. Reaching speeds of up to 500 miles/hour, the
waves can travel across the Pacific Ocean in less than 24 hours (Ramalanjaona,
2011). Tsunamis that are caused by a magnitude 7.5 7.8 earthquake are relatively
local in nature and will not damage regions that are distant. However, secondary
effects can still cause trigger events such as submarine
Military Involvement Of The United States And Mexican

Military Guarding The United States and Mexican Border
Should our military guard The United States and Mexico border? The opposing
views think that military involvement is not the solution to the problem. The
following writing will discuss reasons for that our military needs to be involved in
protecting the borders of The United State and Mexico and the arguments regarding
our military being used to guard our borders. Many people dispute the military
involvement and many are in its favor. This paper will discuss reasons why military
involvement is vital in the protection of the United States Mexican border. The border

In our past history, The United States Customs and border officials have been
focused on relatively common matters of enforcing laws regarding trade and
immigration, watching over agriculture and economic interests from pest and disease,
and processing people, vehicles and goods. After the terrorist attacks on September
11th, 2001, the primary concern was the homeland security. The threat of terrorists
and terrorist tools coming through our borders all add to an increased set of dangers
to The United States. Is it the responsibility of our United States Military to defend
our country from these threats? The following myths are often understood as true,
when in fact they are not.
Myth #1 The US Constitution prohibits posting US troops on the border;
The US Constitution says no such thing. In fact, Article VI, Section 4 states: The
United States shall guarantee to every state in this union a republican form of
government, and shall protect each of them against invasion; and on application of
the legislature, or of the executive (when the legislature cannot be convened) against
domestic violence. (Illegal Immigration Solutions Pros and Cons (2012))
Myth #2 The Posse Comitatus Act prohibits US troops from guarding US borders.
This 1878 act was enacted to prevent Union troops from continuing to enforce federal
laws in the defeated South after the
Erikson and Personal Psychosocial Stage
Renowned psychologist Erik Erikson is best known for his theory of psychosocial
stages of personality development. Unlike Freud, Erikson s theory spans a person
s entire lifespan, from childhood to old age. One of the main elements of Erikson s
psychosocial stage theory is the development of ego identity (Cherry, 2013). Ego
Identity is the conscious sense of self that we develop through social interaction
(Cherry, 2013). Erikson believed that our ego identity is constantly changing due to
new experiences and information we acquire in our daily interactions with others
(Cherry, 2013). The stages of Erikson s theory are concerned with becoming
competent in an area of life (Cherry, 2013). Erikson believed that if a stage is handled

busy, and I don t always have a lot of time for going out. I am not really into the bar

I was diagnosed with some serious health problems. I was hospitalized three times
before doctors arrived at an accurate diagnosis. The resulting ongoing issues with
my health sometimes inhibit the forming of meaningful relationships. Although I
am shy by nature, I try not to let this keep me from getting along and conversing
with people at work and in general. It is just that shyness is a tendency, one that I
need to be aware of. I try to get outside of my comfort zone and talk to people to
form acquaintance type relationships. Although these are not meaningful
relationships, they are the type of relationships I have with people at work, and it
makes work more pleasant to have people to talk to and converse with as I go

the stage that I am currently in. My mother tells me that when I was very young I
was very extroverted and made a lot of friends easily. As I got older I developed a

Oil Wealth s Relation With Authoritarianism
OIL WEALTH S RELATION WITH AUTHORITARIANISM the author in his paper,
tries to establish relationship between oil rich
countries and how they today are still able to have authoritarian rule in
their countries, despite the rise of democracies in recent years.
In past, Oil wealth and authoritarianism had no relations, but in the sixties
and seventies, one could not help but notice that all major oil producers
Saudi Arabia, Iraq,Libya have authoritarian regimes and many factors have
contributed to this such as formation of OPEC, oil embargoes imposed during Arab
Isaereli war of 1973 and most importantly, nationalization of oil industries which
have made the autocrats of these countries stronger in more than one way. Because
of nationalization of the oil industry had rulers of these countries, were able
strengthen their powers and prominent examples include Mummer Qadaffi of Libya
and Saddam Hussain of Iraq. Through nationalization of oil industry, autocrats are
able to keep their finances secret as citizens do not realize that despite low taxes and
other social policies, much of their country s wealth is lost in
theft, corruption, embezzlement. According to a 2010 survey, countries which have
little oil wealth, there is some information regarding finances spent as opposed to
those who are oil rich , where financial information is opaque. Oil wealth has also
enabled the autocrats to fund the police force and keep them on their side.Oman and

My Brief Time in a Wheelchair
My Brief Time in a Wheelchair
Why didn t she smile at me? Why did he avoid eye contact with me? I smiled, I
said hello. Ah, yes. The wheelchair. For a split second, I forgot that I was sitting in
a wheelchair as the young couple scurried by me. It seemed so natural for me to
smile and greet someone as they pass, and it hurt that a similar greeting was not
returned.
This was not the only hurtful reaction I received as I learned to operate a
wheelchair around a K Mart. And, it was not easy to maneuver myself around the
store. At one point I knocked down a pile of blankets on a shelf and in the clothing
section, I caught my wheelchair on a rack of shirts.

There was another distinctive reaction I received. For the same reason adults
looked away from me, children stared. I was an adult who was at their level, height
wise in reality, but maybe seen as an equal to themselves. They stared and I
imagine they wondered about me with love and concern only a child can give
unconditionally to anyone. They ask themselves why is this person in a wheelchair
and how is that fair? It is the child s parent who teaches them not to care by hustling
their child out of sight, as if my looking at the child is a cancerous wish upon them
to receive my disabled fate.
Subpart B, General Requirements, Section 36.201 of the Americans with

equal enjoyment of the goods, services, facilities, privileges, advantages, or
accommodations of any place of public accommodation by any private entity who
owns, leases (or leases to), or operates a place of public accommodation.
The ADA makes any discrimination against disabled people just as illegal as the

The Boeing Company is the 800 pound gorilla of US aerospace. The world s largest
aerospace company, Boeing is neck and neck with Airbus as the #1 maker of large
commercial jets, and is the #3 defense contractor behind Lockheed Martin and
Northrop Grumman. It has two major segments: Commercial Airplanes and
Integrated Defense Systems. Boeing s commercial aircraft include the 7E7
Dreamliner (due in 2008), 767, 747, and the 737; military aircraft include the F/A 18
Hornet, the F 15 Eagle, the C 17 Globemaster III transport, and the AH 64D Apache
helicopter. Boeing s space operations include communications satellites, Delta
rockets, missiles, the International Space Station, and the Space Shuttle (with
Lockheed).
The company was founded in Seattle by William E. Boeing on July 15, 1916,
together with George Conrad Westervelt, a U.S. Navy engineer, and was named B

1917, the company became the Boeing Airplane Company. William E. Boeing had
studied at Yale University and worked initially in the timber industry, where he
became a rich man. There he also acquired knowledge about wooden structures
which was later revealed to be of value for the design and assembly of
Bronfenbrenner s Bioecological Model Analysis
The television drama known as Grey s Anatomy follows several doctors on their
joint and individual journeys from surgical interns to residents and then to
attendings. The main character is Doctor Meredith Grey, the daughter of famous
heart surgeon Ellis Grey. Meredith s time on the show reveals her constant struggle
to reconcile her own abilities with her mother s legacy and explores how the past
continues to affect the present long after its conclusion. Bronfenbrenner s
bioecological model explores the relationship between a child s environment and
that child s development. In his theory, Urie Bronfenbrenner defines several layers
that make up the overall system in which the child functions. These layers are
known as the Microsystem, Mesosystem, Exosystem, Macrosystem, and
Chronosystem. Each of these layers plays a role in influencing the development of
the child as well as each other and the child, in turn, has an impact on these layers.

Meredith Grey s microsystem remains virtually the same from childhood to
adulthood. During her childhood, Meredith spent as much time at her mother s
place of work, Seattle Grace Hospital, as she did with her parents. As an adult,
Meredith works in the same hospital and spends just as much time there, if not
more, as she does at home. On a day to day basis, Meredith interacts with many of
the same people she interacted with daily as a child. These people include her
mother, Richard Webber, Meredith s current Chief of Surgery who was her mother s

Effects on Watching Anime on Individual Habits and

Effects of Watching Anime
Introduction
I. Background of the Study
Anime is a type of cartoon but rather, it is complex, mature, broader, and even the
animation drawing is on a higher level than that of a mere cartoon. Anime, which
originated in Japan, is drawn by a Mangaka (artist) into manga (comic) drafts. These
drafts are then rearranged, colored and synchronized by a hundred of staff. After the
sequencing, a Seiyuu (Voice Actor) will give life to the character. One second of
movement needs twenty five to thirty five drafts of drawing. Since it originated in
Japan, most of the Animes shows the culture and hidden beauty of Japan, its
technological advancement, friendship, love and student s life, the Japanese way.

Here in the Philippines, Japanese Animation or anime is considered as one of the most
recognized and highly anticipated entertainment source for all ages.
From past generations until this present time there were many featured anime here in
the Philippines. There are anime that are shown on televisions, some on DVD s and
some are brought to life by the so called cosplayers . We can visualize the evolution
of Japanese animation from time to time just by noticing the effects, the drawing
styles, and mostly the stories.
II. Objective of the Study
The objectives of this study are the following: 1. To determine the positive effects of
watching anime. 2. To determine the negative effects of watching anime.
III. Significance of the Study
This study will help determine or decide whether watching anime has neither more
positive effects nor negative effects especially to children and students. This study
will also give a bird s eye view of how will anime affect person habits or attitude.
Review of Related Literature
The review of the literature for this study focuses on the effects of watching anime
among children and students.
With the Japanese animation anime industry spreading across the globe, many
American students have become enthralled with this form of Japanese pop culture.
The Associated Press even covered the topic in 2006, discussing anime s appeal
among American teenagers and pointing out that as many young women

alarming change in a specific patient results and is unsure of how to interpret the
results. His uncertainty is due to the patients results changing from being consistently

The first choice is to listen to his boss and leave the issue behind. If Milo decides
to do this, he can continue on with his research but he will never know whether the
patient has actually developed prostate cancer. There is a moral consequence that
will result from this because there is a possibility the patient will die if they never
knew they had developed prostate cancer. If they were informed, they could have
been treated and even lived a longer life. If Milo goes with the first choice, he
would still have his job but in expense of another person s life. However, there is
another choice. The second choice is to talk with the patient and inform them of the
risk that they have developed prostate cancer. With this choice, the patient will be
informed and can be tested in another medical facility with the appropriate
equipment. If the patients, wishes to come back and share the results, Milo can find
the root of the problem. He will know whether the medical devices actually have a
technical problem or if the patient has actually developed prostate cancer. However,
just like the first choice, there are consequences. By informing the patient, Milo is
disobeying his boss instructions. Milo could place himself in risk of losing his
Examples Of Escape In Slaughterhouse-Five
Abstract: This thesis attempts to analyse the relationship between physical and
psychological escape as reflected in Su Tong s Fleeing in 1934 , Yu Hua s 1986 ,
and Kurt Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse Five. Textual analysis reveals that Su Tong s
delineation of escape is external but the influence becomes internal as villagers
morality has been lost as a result of the escape, whereas Yu Hua and Kurt Vonnegut
s
representation of escape emphasises on the psychical escape when both protagonists
in the novels look for derangement as a means of escape. Coincidently, the three
novelists all agree on the same notion of the inescapability of history.

STRENGTH OF INDIUM AND ITS BINARY ALLOYS
S. K. Chakrabarti
Department of Physics
Tribhuvan University, MMAM Campus, Biratnagar, Nepal ABSTRACT
Indium is a trivalent metal. Though chemically not so reactive, it often forms
complexes within its binary alloys. In this theoretical work we have studied the
impact of eigenvalues on the electron phonon coupling strength of indium. We have
also dealt with the same for two binary alloys of it viz. indium magnesium and
indium zinc. First of all we have computed the non local screened form factor for
each of them. For this purpose initially the orthogonalised plane wave parameter is
considered as unity. Thereafter Vashishta Singwi form of exchange and correlation
are employed. For indium the Clementi eigenvalues being not available, the
experimental energy values have been taken besides the Herman Skillman core
energy eigenvalues. Our results are quite satisfactory for the metal. For the alloys
our results lie within the range of values as obtained by other researchers. Our
computation reveals that the superconducting state parameter can be reasonably
reproduced by Harrison s first principle pseudopotential technique along with
McMillan s formalism provided a proper choice of the core energy eigenvalues is
made.
Key words: Superconducting state parameter, Orthogonalised plane wave parameter,

Destruction Of Mycenae Essay
There have been many suggestions and hypotheses to explain that the destruction
of the Mycenaean civilisation. This ranges from foreign invasion, civil war,
collapse in trade, drought and natural disasters. All of these could be possible
hypotheses as to why the Mycenaean civilisations fell, but none are certain as
there is not enough evidence to back these hypotheses up. Mycenae was a very
successful and powerful city. This would make it hard for the city to be brought
down and for everything to be forgotten. Foreign invasion is a plausible hypothesis
for the destruction of Mycenae. The theory is that there was a mass invasion by
outsiders known to the Egyptians as the sea people who invaded Egypt earlier as
well. The sea people could have invaded Mycenae and then settle in their land. This
is a plausible hypothesis except there is no evidence to back it up, as there have
been no foreign objects found in all of the ruins. This... Show more content on

The fact that the Mycenaean civilisation was such a strong and powerful
civilisation really shows that anything can happen. Life is so unpredictable and
especially in the cases of natural disasters it is ruthless. Natural disasters cannot be
avoided, they are inevitable. The danger of natural disasters is forever present,
they are powerful and overwhelming. History shows a very strong cycle,
civilisations rise and fall. They do not stay forever. For a civilisation to be very
stable and last longer than the rest, their needs to be strict rules, guidelines and
consequences for people who do not follows these rules. To stop war crimes and
invasion of other cities their needs to be rules. A stable government is very important,
leaders need to be strong willed and committed. Civilisations without these things
would be very fragile, they would crumble within
Morality Questioned in Unforgiven Essay
The 1992 winner of the best movie of the year, Unforgiven, is viewed by many to
clash with the society of 1992 involving certain aspects of feminism and racism just
to name two. This movie won four academy awards including best picture, best
supporting actor, best director, and best editing but it was actually nominated for nine
which is pretty phenomenal considering the amount of money it cost to make the
film. In this movie, morality is in question throughout the whole film, as well as the
power money actually has on people. The plot of Unforgivenfocuses on the character
William Munny (Clint Eastwood), who gave up his life as a thief, murderer, and
villain for the love of a woman and to raise the family they were soon to have. Unlike

At the time the movie was made, for instance, terrorism was at its lowest point it
had been in twenty years which clearly resembles Munny s dormant living style.
The Schofield Kid (Jaimz Woolvett) interrupts Munny s quiescence way of life,
trying to get Munny to assist him in the killing of two hooligans that beat an
innocent woman until she was bruised. The Schofield Kid was acting as the
instigator, which resembles the enemy of terrorism (William Munny). Munny seems
unsure of the uncivil act of disobedience until he comes to the conclusion that his
family is in dire need of money to pay for the bare necessities of life.
There were three major waves of feminist action that took place in the 1900 s. The
most recent and most closely resembling the film is the third wave taking place in
the early 1990 s. The third wave feminist mainly focused on micro politics but also
sought after negotiating a space within feminist thought for deliberation of race
related subjectivities. In the film, a woman was brutally beaten by a man for
laughing at his small penis. The girl s friends found out what happened and sought to
acquire revenge on the two men that committed this hurtful crime. The gang of
vengeful women manage to scavenge one thousand dollars of their own savings as a
reward for anyone who kills the two men. The gang of women acts as the feminist

Why Did The Marbleheads Win The Revolutionary War
The Marbleheads helped win the American Revolutionary War, even though some
believe that George Washington did not need a Navy to win the war, the Navy
formed with the help of the Marbleheads, who fought off the incoming British ships,
as well as helping Washington crossing the Delaware. These two events, in fact,
changed the outcome of the American Revolution.
Major General John Glover was in charge of the Marblehead Regiment from 1775 to
1776. In 1776, this group of militiamen became part of the Continental Army the 14th

Once again Glover and his men helped Washington and his troops cross the
Delaware. On January 3, 1977, the battle of Princeton took place. This like Trenton
was not a large battle. However, it was an important battle. With the help of the
Marblehead unit, Washington was about to get behind General Lord Cornwallis

some of the British to flee. They were unaware that Washington had yet again
crossed the Delaware. Washington was able to capture the fleeing British troops.
Once this was accomplished, he led the attack on the remaining troops of Mawhood s
Army, sending them into retreat. With the help of Glover and his men, Washington
was able to have three defeats in ten days. This really raised the morale of the

Class Distinctions and Internal Struggle in the Works of James Joyce
In the early twentieth century, Ireland, and more specifically Dublin, was a place
defined by class distinctions. There were the wealthy, worldly upper class who owned
large, stately townhouses in the luxurious neighborhoods and the less fortunate,
uneducated poor who lived in any shack they could afford in the middle of the city.
For the most part, the affluent class was Protestant, while the struggling workers were
overwhelmingly Catholic. These distinctions were the result of nearly a century of
disparity in income, education, language, and occupation, and in turn were the
fundamental bases for the internal struggle that many of Joyce s characters feel. ...

For example, as Eveline looks out her window onto the street below, she notes that
a man walking by is headed toward the new red houses (Joyce 329). She talks of
how the area used to be a field full of carefree children, but is now nothing more than
a plot of dwellings, presumably built to accommodate the wealthy as they move to
the country, that contrast sharply with her own. She also delights at sitting with
Frank in an area of the theater that was unfamiliar to her, probably because she could
not normally afford the seats. Similarly, in A Little Cloud, Little Chandler passes a
number of underprivileged, dirty children in the street but takes no notice of them,
illustrating how common this scene was in the poorer areas of Dublin. Joyce also
spends some time describing the establishment in which Little Chandler meets with
Gallaher. He points out to the reader that Little Chandler did not have enough money
to even consider entering the tavern before; he could not even hire a servant to help
with the baby or pay off the furniture. The reader may also note that Mrs. Mooney of
The Boarding House saves leftover bread scraps from breakfast to use the next day
and locks up the sugar and butter, actions not expected of a woman with money. In
Counterparts, Joyce tells of Farrington s low economic status by having him consider
asking the cashier for an advance on his paycheck and mentally
Is Welfare Wrong
Welfare is the statutory procedure or social effort designed to promote the basic
physical and material well being of people in need, according to the dictionary
(dictonary.com). Welfare comes in many forms, such as, Medicaid, HUD Homes,
Food Stamps, and Supplement Security Income. Some people use one source of
Welfare, while others use all.
When welfare was originally created, the point of welfare was to help people who
were struggling to get back on their feet. Whether it be due to a medical emergency,
job loss, or other unexpected problems. But that is not the case anymore. Although,
welfare fraud often goes unnoticed in our society, the United States is going further

Abnormal Behavior In Medieval Times
For hundreds of years, people have tried to understand the causes and treatments of
people who display abnormal behavior. The most popular belief in the Medieval
times was the idea that supernatural forces, such as demons and evil spirits, were the
cause of people with abnormal behavior (Nevid). Thus, their treatment of this was
often brutal, involving trephination and exorcisms. Although this belief was common
at the time, the ancient Greeks did not hold to this belief. Hippocrates theorized that
abnormal behaviors were due to illness of the body, and that the body s humors
determined ones behavior(Nevid). The belief that abnormal behavior is due to illness
in the body is most similar to the modern medical model. In the late 15th and early

Compare And Contrast Disney s Pocahontas
Pocahontas and John Smith are viewed by many people as a couple who loved
each other, a tale of a native american girl who saves an English explorer, and later
falls in love with him. This story has been around for awhile, and became very popular
when Disney came out with its movie Pocahontas, this movie shows how a romantic
relationship forms between Pocahontasa Native American and John Smith an
English explorer while tension rises between the English colonists and the Native
Americans. The story of Pocahontas showed how strong love could be but in
reality did it really? Was it really a love story? Did it really happen they way it was
told? Pocahontas and John Smith were real people, but Disney s Movie pocahontas
did not display them the right way. Disney had put a rose colored filter to make...

Choosing The Career Path That An Individual
My Career Path Choosing the career path that an individual is going to take is one
of the most important and most difficult decisions each of us make in our live. We
start out as children, dreaming of becoming astronauts, professional athletes, and
even princess or princesses. But then we grow older, and into the reality that the
world we once knew as safe and innocent and a sky with no limit, is really full
troublesome worries, insecurities, and uncertainties. Deciding how we desire to
make our living becomes the question who am I, and who am I going to be . And
this question we struggle with, eventually find the answer and embrace it, or avoid
it, move on and abandon it. I have wrestled with that question for longer than many
I m sure. I ve graduated with one degree, gone back to school for another year, only
to later change to a new major. And I m honestly okay with all of that, because I
would rather spend a couple extra years getting it right than spending my whole
life not being content with the question who am I going to be . So I ve examined
myself, and boiled all my many interests down into the essence of what I m really
all about. I love to learn and understand new things as fast as I can read or
experience them. Cultures, histories, governments and languages are my passions,
and seeing how people interact within them is one of the most exciting things that I
know of. So after discovering this, I realized that what I need to be doing with my

Essay on Bullying in Schools
Cowardice asks the question: is it safe?
Expediency asks the question: is it politic?
Vanity asks the question: is it popular?
But conscience asks the question: is it right?
And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic,
nor popular but one must take it because it is right.

Bullying in Schools
п‚· Typically, bullying is thought of as aggressive behavior on the part of one child,
directed toward another; however, playful tussling or normal childhood conflicts can
be characterized the same way, resulting in mislabeling and misunderstanding of the
problem.

Long term effects of bullying
п‚· Bullying has been shown to have severe and sometimes lasting effects, going on
to shape both the bullies and the victims adult personalities.
п‚· 9 to 12 year old victims of bullying are prone to headaches, sleeping issues,

Sheep Is An Important Part Of The Global Agricultural
Economy
Introduction
Sheep are an important part of the global agricultural economy. Domestic sheep
provide a wide array of raw materials. Wool is one of the first textiles although in
the late 20th century wool prices began to fall as the result of the popularity and
cheap prices for synthetic fabrics . Sheep meat and milk are the earliest staple
proteins consumed by human civilization after the transition from hunting and
gathering to agriculture. Byproducts from the slaughter of sheep are also of value;
sheep tallow can be used in candle and soap making while, sheep bone and cartilage
has been used to furnish carved items such as dice and buttons .
Parasitic nematodes cause diseases of major economic importance in sheep .The
lungworm , Dictyocaulus filaria , represents one of these nematodes inhabits bronchi
and bronchioles and cause parasitic bronchitis (commonly known as husk)
particularly in young sheep ( Holzhauer et al., 2011). Dictyocaulus filaria has direct
life cycle, embryonated eggs are coughed up or swallowed and hatch in the small
intestine then first stage larvae are passed in faeces. Under favorable environmental
conditions, first stage larvae moult to second stage larvae and then infective en
sheathed third stage larvae that actively move from faeces to herbage and are
ingested by the grazing sheep. Following ingestion, third stage larvae ex sheath in the
small intestine, penetrate the intestinal wall and enter the mesenteric lymph nodes.
Here, larvae develop,
Migration Of Chinese Immigration
Chinese immigration is a current topic many scholars are talking about in research of
finding patterns and transformations among Chinese migration. Prior to World War II,
Chinese migration was strictly regulated and deeply connoted negative feelings
against Chinese immigrants, yet it did not influx the United States until the early
1880 s with the passing of the Chinese Exclusion Actin 1882. Chinese migration is
particularly important, because unlike European immigrants that travelled with
families, Chinese immigrants travelled alone resulting in the creating of bachelor
societies, or Chinatowns. After the U.S. initiated the quota system. Chinese migration
took a complete turn, and instead of having laborer migrate, it was the professionals
and students who sought migration to the U.S. That being said, Chinese immigrants
have faced constant discrimination and selectivity in their efforts to migrate to the
U.S.
Although, Chinese emigration is characterized by scholars under four main
categories; Hua shang (Trade pattern), Hua gong (coolie/labor migration), Hua qio
(soujorning), and Hua yi (re migration pattern), this essay will mainly focus around
the Hua gong, Huq qio, and briefly touch upon the Hua yi emigration patterns (Zhou
2017: Week 1). Hua shang emigration is characterized by strong social networks of
merchants and traders with purpose of trading in Southeast Asia without the intent of
resettling. The Hua gong pattern is the most common migration pattern because it

American Film Noir
There have been several debates over a long period of time concerning the validity
of film noir as a distinct genre. Essays and books have debated the term for years
using various criteria and rubrics to back up their respective positions on the subject.
As the 21st century brings new and creative trends from screenwriting to post
production and everything in between, the boundaries of noir become even less
certain. One may even find a fitting parallel between the noir protagonist s ambiguous
and perilous quest with that of the hapless and naГЇve academic in search of an
unequivocal definition of noir itself. This essay aims at summarizing the evolution of
American film noir to present day, by using seminal works to determine how these
films have become influenced by American cinematic trends of postmodern narrative
structures and subjectivity.
History of Noir
The argument to be made is that, with the emergence of cinematic technological
advances coupled with postmodernism s abandonment of meta narratives and
traditional socio cultural identities, filmmakers are digging even deeper into the dark
recesses of the human consciousness and using noir as a platform. It is not very
surprising that to date no other genre relies more on the fragility and temperamental
nature of the human condition more. Oftentimes characters in a noir narrative are
either vindicated or condemned based
Evolution and Fossil Fuels
Evolution and Fossil Fuels Abstract In this research paper, I have discussed the
theory of evolution. I have also mentioned some misconceptions regarding the
evolution and have tried to give argument against those. Secondly, I have discussed
the fossils and their formation along with the significance of fossil records. The
modern science considers evolution as one of the basic original concepts regarding
life (Pojeta Springer, 2001). The potent theory of evolution provides explanation of
observable facts like the history of life preserved in the fossil record; the genetic,
molecular, and physical similarities and differences among organisms; and the
geographic distribution of organisms today and in the past (Pojeta Springer,
2001).Without a doubt, evolution provides a structure to the establishment of new
biological and paleontological trends. A number of scientific disciplines have
verified the theory of evolution. In addition to its significance to modern science, the
common man considers evolution as one of the most misapprehended and divisive
issues. Such a state of affairs is regrettable as it is pointless to make this principal
scientific concept controversial (Pojeta Springer, 2001). According to the evolution
concept, it is believed that the living flora and fauna have been developed by a
procedure of continuing, uninterrupted transformation from earlier forms that existed
in the past. The theory of evolution that supports the idea of organic

I. Case Synopsis
On June 9, 2016, the Federal Aviation Association (FAA) announced specific actions
that it will take in response to the issue concerning pilot s mental health. These
actions were formulated using recommendations made by Aviation Rulemaking
Committee (ARC).
A year after the Germanwings tragic event, we have seen disappointing efforts by
FAA in strengthening the security for passengers and crew. The murder suicide crash
last year killed over 150 passengers. It focused attention on how airliners and
regulators can better monitor pilots mental health and improve aviation safety. In

The most evaluated aspects are the hiring standard and ongoing evaluation of pilots.
Currently, no psychological testing is required for airline pilots. Although most
airliners choose to incorporate psychological testing in their hiring process, but these
tests were primarily designed as personality test. The test was used to examine
whether a pilot will fit well in the company and do little to uncover the mental state
and fitness of the pilot.
The most important source of mental health information came from pilot s self
reported health form. Besides the self reported health form, airliners relied heavily on
annual medical examination administered by FAA certified examiner to discern
mental health profile of their pilots. However, the exam was devoted to examine pilot
s physical conditions where examiners were not required to ask mental health
questions. The mental health was evaluated based on their conversation with the pilot
during the exam.

The River Bank At My Uncle s Camp
When I was young, I used to refrain from going down to the river bank at my uncle
s camp. I hated it because I was always afraid that I would fall. It was steep and so
much higher than the river it surrounded. As a child, I never stopped to wonder
why the land was so much higher than the water. Looking back now, it seems very
simple. The water shaped the land. Although I experienced this on a very small
level, we see it on an enormous scale every day. Throughout Michigan and even
throughout the entire world, water has created the land shapes that we are used to.
Without water, we would not have the unique land structures that exist today. I was
born and raised right here in the beautiful state of Michigan. Michigan is a unique
place because it is two separate peninsulas connected by a bridge and separated by
the Mackinac Straits. In short, us Michigan natives have grown up surrounded by
water. Michigan has about 58,000 sq. miles of land and 38,000 miles of water. The
majority of the water that makes up Michigan is formed from the Great Lakes: No
point in Michigan is more than 6 miles away from one of the Great Lakes. It is
clear that water is a big part of the composition of this state. Since water is such a
big part of Michigan, I find myself very curious about what it is and what it does.
The first thing you need to know when you are researching water history is the water
cycle. The water cycle is an infinite circle in which water evaporates, is carried

The Things They Carried
In the short story The Things They Carried , Tim O Brien wrote about the
experience of war and the feelings young soldiers felt during their long days of
travel. During the story he keeps referring back to the things the soldiers chose to
carry in their packs. Some of these items included necessity items like grenades and
ammunition, but they also carry sentimental items like love letters and pictures.
These items help the reader better understand each person for who they are and help
us to understand the physical situation the soldiers are in. In The Things They

The whole atmosphere...they carried gravity (O Brien 124). The reader is given
much attention to the weight and pressure of all the external forces the soldier would
carry. But the greatest of weight the men carried with them was not physical at all. It
was their emotions: Grief, terror, love, longing these were intangibles, but the
intangibles had their own mass and specific gravity, they had tangible weight. (O
Brien 126) Throughout the story, O Brien gives long, tedious, monotonous and
utterly boring lists of the things the men carried. The things they carried were
largely determined by necessity (O Brien 117), but each man s necessities were
different. All of the men carried very heavy loads to begin with, and added to these
loads things that seemingly lightened their burdens. O Brien s point behind all this
listing is to show the reader just how much physical weight these men carried and
how slow and tedious the war in which they fought was. They moved like mules...
it was just the endless march, village to village, without purpose, nothing won or
lost. (O Brien 124) Many of the soldiers carried personal possession from back
home to remind them of the life they had left. Jimmy Cross carried a picture of
Martha and letters she wrote to him. Jimmy Cross also carried the pebble Martha
sent to him from the Jersey shore. This would remind him of how he yearned to be

Aphorisms In The Picture Of Dorian Gray
The English language consists of a wide variety of figurative speech, and authors
often make use of this in order to embellish and enhance their works. Oscar Wilde,
one of the most daring writers of the nineteenth century, exemplifies this writing
approach. His most notable technique is the use of aphorisms a concise judgement
that contains a general truth throughout his pieces, particularly in The Importance of
Being Earnest and The Picture of Dorian Gray. The phrases are often thoughts or
dialogue from the characters, the majority of whom live in the English upper class
society during the Victorian era, and comment on a range of subjects concerning this
culture. Wilde s aphorisms can often be overlooked as shallow or simplistic, but in
reality,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The aphorism not only opens the discussion, but it also identifies the problem with
the society being addressed in the subsequent text. In this case, Wilde points out
that instead of mending the bothersome rules of the English, upper class society,
individuals choose instead to find ways to break these rules and escape the
consequences. Such ideas continue in the plot of The Picture of Dorian Gray,
which relies on Lord Henry s aphorism and Dorian Gray s response to it, Youth!
There is absolutely nothing in the world but youth! Dorian Gray listened, open
eyed and wondering... If it were I who was to be always young, and the picture that
was to grow old!...I would give my soul for that! (The Picture of Dorian Gray 24,
28) to initiate the central plot. Lord Henry s aphorism, along with his subsequent
dialogue, affects Dorian so greatly that he sells his soul to stay young and beautiful
forever. The rest of the plot, instigated by this one simple phrase, exemplifies Wilde s
cynical views on the worship of youth with Dorian s demise at the conclusion of the
novel. Dorian s death and Jack and Algernon s Bunburying, although seemingly
disparate, both represent issues in the English upper class that Wilde begins to
address through an
English Should Be the Official Language of the United States
English as the official language of the United States could benefit the U.S.
Government and America as a whole. America has long since been a multicultural
nation and has been an English speaking nation since it was founded. The
constitutional and federal documents are all in English, which furthers the American
people, believing English should be our official language. The majority of states
already have English as their official language, for English has always provided a
much needed cohesion to our diverse citizens since it was founded.
Being made of diverse peoples, and being able to continue to use your own language
may seem preferable as we encourage individuality and do not want anyone to

The army and federal court system already operate in English for practical reasons,
and by having an official language, the workings of the government would be more
streamlined. Such a bill would mostly apply to government policy and federal
documentation, and would make it clear that unless the government decides to
provide it, no one is entitled to government services or documents in any language
other than English; if there is a communication issue with laws or regulations in more
than one language, English would take precedence. In a recent national survey, nearly
two thirds of Americans assumed that English was already the official language set
by the United States Constitution, according to the Associated Press, 1987. (James

Gay Is the New Black in America
As I was browsing the internet I discovered this article (McWhorter, 2013) comparing
the gay community with the African American community. At first glance, I felt how
can the two be compared? So, I decided to give this article a read. The purpose of the
article was to bring attention to the civil rights movement of today dealing with the
homosexual community s civil rights and how it compares to the historic civil rights
movements made by the African Americancommunity from 1955 1968. In my mind
as an African American, my pride was not allowing me to see the comparison for
what it really was. African Americans have endured a longer, more violent time
frame of inequality than those of the gay community. This is how I see and feel it
to be. I had to do some more research to see exactly how this era s civil rights
movement became an understudy for comparison to the civil rights movements by
black Americans during the time span of 1955 1968. Us as African Americans need
to support the gay civil rights movements of today because we should understand
and realize the struggles we went through and help this nation become more equal.
Gay is the new black in America, not all aspects of the two relate such as the level of
violence endured by the African Americans as they fought to obtain equal rights but
the fight to be seen equal is the same.
The growth that the African American community has accomplished is a historic one
that the gay community wishes to achieve as well. Although
Three Colonial Groups In Colonial America
Beginning in 1625, the United Kingdom of Britain and the United Kingdom of
Scotland started their colonial dominance of the Americas in Massachusetts Bay. The
two countries later joined to form Great Britain. The colonies spread to other parts of
America, including Georgia, Virginia and Maryland. The French, on the other hand,
colonized North America as the Spanish occupied colonies in the south and, thus, all
three colonial groups were in constant struggle to oust each other and occupy greater
territory in the Americas.
Equality was only a dream in America in from 1700 through 1750. Native Americans
and immigrants affiliated to each of the three colonial groups were subjected to
slavery. Louisiana, for example, was a French colony where about
Summary Of To The Virgins To Make Much Of Time
Beginning of the document content. Robert Herrick s To the Virgins, to Make
Much of Time depicts life as a fleeting moment in which people must not take
advantage of. His observations of nature with references to tomorrow and not
losing your prime indicate his strong belief in living every day as if it were his
last. While there have been numerous poems pertaining to living life to the fullest,
Herrick captures this message with such delicacy and precision, it sets it apart
from every other one of his pieces. This poem is a carefully constructed poem
expressing essentially a simple sentiment. It says what it wants with extraordinary
technical proficiency, yet without sacrificing the centrality of its message. Old
Time is capitalized to personify time itself. This gives the effect that if time were a
person, his age would grow and grow yet his influence on everything around him
never fades. Herrick also personifies flowers by writing how one day they smile,
and the next they are dead. This fleeting sense of imagery buttresses Herrick s
overall theme of seizing the day. The flowers smile instead of grow or sway in the
wind; this indicates that Herrick purposefully chose to label these as soft creatures
that anyone can relate to. The comparison of a smiling flower against the thought of
death is jarring to an audience. This makes whoever is reading this piece take a step
back and initially recognize Herrick s point. Likewise, by personifying the
Golden Twenties Urbanization
The roaring twenties, or golden twenties, was essentially the time period that
signified the importance of urbanization. As the period progressed, more people
began to move out of farmland and into major cities. Cities including New York
and Chicago were met with a large increase in population. As population got denser
in lighted areas, economy flourished as well. Money became less of an issue and
rather a privilege for the typical middle class man or woman. With this, commoners
were able to enjoy the perks of living in a big city. As a result, culture in the roaring
twentiesalso prospered. Life for a woman definitely changed greatly. As women began

Many juvenile figures including the notorious Al Capone rose during this time
period. Gangs in large cities like New York and Chicago started to claim territory. A
surplus of gangs in one city caused fights and brawls between them. Prohibition laws
basically hindered the United States economy, making it harder for some to make a
living. A lack of financial instability caused some Americans to turn to gangs in
order to make money. Although it was very dangerous, people saw it as the only
option to make easy money during a time of economic depression. These gangs were
the primary source for prohibited alcohol sale. The government, in return, set up the
Federal Prohibition Bureau. This was an attempt to stop the illegal sale of alcohol.
However, the large number of criminal groups across major cities made it nearly
impossible to put down. Criminals often hid alcohol in very oblivious locations. On
top of that, they often bribed government officials. As a result, the 18th amendment to
the Constitution was ultimately a failure. Rather than putting down a daring habit,
prohibition caused the rise of organized crime. People believed that prohibition is the
direct reason of crime because without it, gangs would have never gotten so

or someone you know. It also has multiplayer guitar battle and career mode and in
career mode you make your band and buy guitars, characters, outfits, videos, songs
and finishes. The graphic of the game are spectacular that when you play it looks
and feels you ar there there it looks so realistic. I think this is one of the best games
I ever played because it teaches you an instrument that most people like.Just think
for a minute, think out of all the games you ever played which one teaches you
how to play an instument. If you are thinking of buying this game for someone as a
gift or for your self and you are not sure if you should buy it do not hesitate you will
never regret it because is the best game ever even if you sell it or your parents
confiscated it or what

On one hand, Mahatma Gandhi is a widely revered figure, and his contributions to India's independence and his philosophy of non-violence provide a rich and vast subject matter. However, the difficulty lies in capturing the essence of his life, beliefs, and impact in a coherent and concise manner, particularly when focusing on the Hindi language. • 2. Cause And Effect Of Tsunamis On December 26th, 2004, one of the largest megathrust earthquakes ever recorded struck the coast of Indonesia. The energy released was equivalent to the eruption of 23,000 Hiroshima sized atomic bombs (Pickrell, 2005). Dangerous waves, known as tsunamis, began radiating from the epicenter crashing into the shores of 11 Indian Ocean countries. Destruction occurred reaching countries in Africa to Thailand (Risk Management Solutions, 2006). Thailand was hit by the tsunamiapproximately 90 minutes after the initial earthquake, killing hundreds of thousands of people (Lusted, 2008). The waves of the tsunami reached heights of four to 39 meters, travelling up to five kilometers inland. Due to the flat topography of the Banda Aceh region, wave height was approximately four to eight meters, whereas height in the hilly areas was larger (Cluff, 2008). Causes Tsunamis A tsunami is a series of waves that are produced by large oceanic earthquakes or volcanic eruptions at tectonic plate boundaries. These waves may reach 100 feet and cause extensive damage in areas that are densely populated, especially if proper warning systems are lacking. Reaching speeds of up to 500 miles/hour, the waves can travel across the Pacific Ocean in less than 24 hours (Ramalanjaona, 2011). Chakrabarti Department of Physics Tribhuvan University, MMAM Campus, Biratnagar, Nepal ABSTRACT Indium is a trivalent metal. Though chemically not so reactive, it often forms complexes within its binary alloys. In this theoretical work we have studied the impact of eigenvalues on the electron phonon coupling strength of indium. We have also dealt with the same for two binary alloys of it viz. indium magnesium and indium zinc. First of all we have computed the non local screened form factor for each of them. For this purpose initially the orthogonalised plane wave parameter is considered as unity. Thereafter Vashishta Singwi form of exchange and correlation are employed. For indium the Clementi eigenvalues being not available, the experimental energy values have been taken besides the Herman Skillman core energy eigenvalues. Our results are quite satisfactory for the metal. For the alloys our results lie within the range of values as obtained by other researchers. Our computation reveals that the superconducting state parameter can be reasonably reproduced by Harrison s first principle pseudopotential technique along with McMillan s formalism provided a proper choice of the core energy eigenvalues is made. Key words: Superconducting state parameter, Orthogonalised plane wave parameter, Core energy eigenvalue, Non local screened form factor, Harrison s first principle

For the most part, the affluent class was Protestant, while the struggling workers were overwhelmingly Catholic. • 25. Sheep Is An Important Part Of The Global Agricultural Economy Introduction Sheep are an important part of the global agricultural economy. Domestic sheep provide a wide array of raw materials. Wool is one of the first textiles although in the late 20th century wool prices began to fall as the result of the popularity and cheap prices for synthetic fabrics . Sheep meat and milk are the earliest staple proteins consumed by human civilization after the transition from hunting and gathering to agriculture. Byproducts from the slaughter of sheep are also of value; sheep tallow can be used in candle and soap making while, sheep bone and cartilage has been used to furnish carved items such as dice and buttons . Parasitic nematodes cause diseases of major economic importance in sheep .The lungworm , Dictyocaulus filaria , represents one of these nematodes inhabits bronchi and bronchioles and cause parasitic bronchitis (commonly known as husk) particularly in young sheep ( Holzhauer et al., 2011). Dictyocaulus filaria has direct life cycle, embryonated eggs are coughed up or swallowed and hatch in the small intestine then first stage larvae are passed in faeces. Under favorable environmental conditions, first stage larvae moult to second stage larvae and then infective en sheathed third stage larvae that actively move from faeces to herbage and are ingested by the grazing sheep. Following ingestion, third stage larvae ex sheath in the small intestine, penetrate the intestinal wall and enter the mesenteric lymph nodes. Here, larvae develop,

Prior to World War II, Chinese migration was strictly regulated and deeply connoted negative feelings against Chinese immigrants, yet it did not influx the United States until the early 1880 s with the passing of the Chinese Exclusion Actin 1882. Chinese migration is particularly important, because unlike European immigrants that travelled with families, Chinese immigrants travelled alone resulting in the creating of bachelor societies, or Chinatowns. After the U.S. initiated the quota system. Chinese migration took a complete turn, and instead of having laborer migrate, it was the professionals and students who sought migration to the U.S. That being said, Chinese immigrants have faced constant discrimination and selectivity in their efforts to migrate to the U.S. Although, Chinese emigration is characterized by scholars under four main categories; Hua shang (Trade pattern), Hua gong (coolie/labor migration), Hua qio (soujorning), and Hua yi (re migration pattern), this essay will mainly focus around the Hua gong, Huq qio, and briefly touch upon the Hua yi emigration patterns (Zhou 2017: Week 1). • 27. American Film Noir Essay American Film Noir Student s Name Institutional Affiliation American Film Noir There have been several debates over a long period of time concerning the validity of film noir as a distinct genre. Essays and books have debated the term for years using various criteria and rubrics to back up their respective positions on the subject. As the 21st century brings new and creative trends from screenwriting to post production and everything in between, the boundaries of noir become even less certain. One may even find a fitting parallel between the noir protagonist s ambiguous and perilous quest with that of the hapless and naГЇve academic in search of an unequivocal definition of noir itself. This essay aims at summarizing the evolution of American film noir to present day, by using seminal works to determine how these films have become influenced by American cinematic trends of postmodern narrative structures and subjectivity. History of Noir The argument to be made is that, with the emergence of cinematic technological advances coupled with postmodernism s abandonment of meta narratives and traditional socio cultural identities, filmmakers are digging even deeper into the dark recesses of the human consciousness and using noir as a platform. It is not very surprising that to date no other genre relies more on the fragility and temperamental nature of the human condition more. Oftentimes characters in a noir narrative are either vindicated or condemned based

I have also mentioned some misconceptions regarding the evolution and have tried to give argument against those. Secondly, I have discussed the fossils and their formation along with the significance of fossil records. The modern science considers evolution as one of the basic original concepts regarding life (Pojeta Springer, 2001). The potent theory of evolution provides explanation of observable facts like the history of life preserved in the fossil record; the genetic, molecular, and physical similarities and differences among organisms; and the geographic distribution of organisms today and in the past (Pojeta Springer, 2001).Without a doubt, evolution provides a structure to the establishment of new biological and paleontological trends. A number of scientific disciplines have verified the theory of evolution. In addition to its significance to modern science, the common man considers evolution as one of the most misapprehended and divisive issues. Such a state of affairs is regrettable as it is pointless to make this principal scientific concept controversial (Pojeta Springer, 2001). According to the evolution concept, it is believed that the living flora and fauna have been developed by a procedure of continuing, uninterrupted transformation from earlier forms that existed in the past. The theory of evolution that supports the idea of organic

The test was used to examine whether a pilot will fit well in the company and do little to uncover the mental state and fitness of the pilot. The most important source of mental health information came from pilot s self reported health form. Besides the self reported health form, airliners relied heavily on annual medical examination administered by FAA certified examiner to discern mental health profile of their pilots. It was steep and so much higher than the river it surrounded. As a child, I never stopped to wonder why the land was so much higher than the water. Looking back now, it seems very simple. The water shaped the land. Although I experienced this on a very small level, we see it on an enormous scale every day. Throughout Michigan and even throughout the entire world, water has created the land shapes that we are used to. Without water, we would not have the unique land structures that exist today. I was born and raised right here in the beautiful state of Michigan. Michigan is a unique place because it is two separate peninsulas connected by a bridge and separated by the Mackinac Straits. In short, us Michigan natives have grown up surrounded by water. Michigan has about 58,000 sq. miles of land and 38,000 miles of water. The majority of the water that makes up Michigan is formed from the Great Lakes: No point in Michigan is more than 6 miles away from one of the Great Lakes. It is clear that water is a big part of the composition of this state. Since water is such a big part of Michigan, I find myself very curious about what it is and what it does. The first thing you need to know when you are researching water history is the water cycle. The water cycle is an infinite circle in which water evaporates, is carried

But the greatest of weight the men carried with them was not physical at all. It was their emotions: Grief, terror, love, longing these were intangibles, but the intangibles had their own mass and specific gravity, they had tangible weight. (O Brien 126) Throughout the story, O Brien gives long, tedious, monotonous and utterly boring lists of the things the men carried. The things they carried were largely determined by necessity (O Brien 117), but each man s necessities were different. All of the men carried very heavy loads to begin with, and added to these loads things that seemingly lightened their burdens. O Brien s point behind all this listing is to show the reader just how much physical weight these men carried and how slow and tedious the war in which they fought was. They moved like mules... it was just the endless march, village to village, without purpose, nothing won or lost. (O Brien 124) Many of the soldiers carried personal possession from back home to remind them of the life they had left. Jimmy Cross carried a picture of Martha and letters she wrote to him. Jimmy Cross also carried the pebble Martha sent to him from the Jersey shore. This would remind him of how he yearned to be back at home with her. Kiowa carried
  • 33. Aphorisms In The Picture Of Dorian Gray The English language consists of a wide variety of figurative speech, and authors often make use of this in order to embellish and enhance their works. Oscar Wilde, one of the most daring writers of the nineteenth century, exemplifies this writing approach. His most notable technique is the use of aphorisms a concise judgement that contains a general truth throughout his pieces, particularly in The Importance of Being Earnest and The Picture of Dorian Gray. The phrases are often thoughts or dialogue from the characters, the majority of whom live in the English upper class society during the Victorian era, and comment on a range of subjects concerning this culture. Wilde s aphorisms can often be overlooked as shallow or simplistic, but in reality,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The aphorism not only opens the discussion, but it also identifies the problem with the society being addressed in the subsequent text. In this case, Wilde points out that instead of mending the bothersome rules of the English, upper class society, individuals choose instead to find ways to break these rules and escape the consequences. Such ideas continue in the plot of The Picture of Dorian Gray, which relies on Lord Henry s aphorism and Dorian Gray s response to it, Youth! There is absolutely nothing in the world but youth! Dorian Gray listened, open eyed and wondering... If it were I who was to be always young, and the picture that was to grow old!...I would give my soul for that! (The Picture of Dorian Gray 24, 28) to initiate the central plot. Lord Henry s aphorism, along with his subsequent dialogue, affects Dorian so greatly that he sells his soul to stay young and beautiful forever. The rest of the plot, instigated by this one simple phrase, exemplifies Wilde s cynical views on the worship of youth with Dorian s demise at the conclusion of the novel. Dorian s death and Jack and Algernon s Bunburying, although seemingly disparate, both represent issues in the English upper class that Wilde begins to address through an

At first glance, I felt how can the two be compared? So, I decided to give this article a read. The purpose of the article was to bring attention to the civil rights movement of today dealing with the homosexual community s civil rights and how it compares to the historic civil rights movements made by the African Americancommunity from 1955 1968. In my mind as an African American, my pride was not allowing me to see the comparison for what it really was. African Americans have endured a longer, more violent time frame of inequality than those of the gay community. This is how I see and feel it to be. I had to do some more research to see exactly how this era s civil rights movement became an understudy for comparison to the civil rights movements by black Americans during the time span of 1955 1968. Robert Herrick s To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time depicts life as a fleeting moment in which people must not take advantage of. His observations of nature with references to tomorrow and not losing your prime indicate his strong belief in living every day as if it were his last. While there have been numerous poems pertaining to living life to the fullest, Herrick captures this message with such delicacy and precision, it sets it apart from every other one of his pieces. This poem is a carefully constructed poem expressing essentially a simple sentiment. It says what it wants with extraordinary technical proficiency, yet without sacrificing the centrality of its message. Old Time is capitalized to personify time itself. This gives the effect that if time were a person, his age would grow and grow yet his influence on everything around him never fades. Herrick also personifies flowers by writing how one day they smile, and the next they are dead. This fleeting sense of imagery buttresses Herrick s overall theme of seizing the day. The flowers smile instead of grow or sway in the wind; this indicates that Herrick purposefully chose to label these as soft creatures that anyone can relate to. The comparison of a smiling flower against the thought of death is jarring to an audience. This makes whoever is reading this piece take a step back and initially recognize Herrick s point. Likewise, by personifying the
