Critiquing Qualitative Research Questions
Incorporating the key concept of sourcing information on crime as a community member wasn t
overly challenging. However, wording the questions and designing them so that there was no
bias or favor towards one answer was difficult at first. Finding enough ways to develop questions
whilst providing answers to the survey without fear of repetition to achieve a response for the
research questions with quantitative data was a challenge. The levels of measurement of the
variable that was used for this survey is ordinal. An ordinal scale has no natural origin and there is
no real interval between ranks on the scale, the ordinal scale is used to represent preferences and
judgements , ordinal scales commonly appear discreet instead of continuous (Basilevsky... Show

Complementarity exercises the use of results from one method to elaborate or clarify results from
another method whilst development using results from one method to develop and improve
another (Greene, Caracelli and Graham 1989, 259). Through using these two methods it allows us
to develop both the quantitative and qualitative results using the results of the other to elaborate
and solidify the other resulting in better data across both styles of the data analysis. The survey
would enable us to back up the trends found in the interview, ad the interview results would allow
us to give insight into the reason behind the survey findings. Overall the results of both the
qualitative interview and the quantitative survey would benefit the results of each other and
provide a deeper insight into the trends set by different variables and allow for some explanation as
to why these trends would

The Importance Of Language In Education
It was during the 1800s that a decision was taken which had ended up being the turning point for
the language in education scenario in India and changed the orientation of language priority in
Indian education. The decision was taken to ignore the vernacular medium education and
concentrate entirely on English as the single language for instruction (Paranjpe Prasad,
2010)(Sridhar, 1989). It was made clear that those who had attained educationin English would be
preferred over the vernacular educated class. English had become the language of higher education
and with the establishment of the prestigious universities in the major cities like Bombay, Calcutta,
Madras, Lahore, Allahabad and Punjab, English had achieved its supremacy (Sridhar, 1989)
(Krishnaswamy Krishnaswamy, 2006). From this point onwards education came to be equated with
English education and those who studied in vernacular medium were put permanently in the
background (Sridhar, 1989), a mindset prevalent in the mind of Indians even today. Despite the
changes which were made in the language policies in the 1900s to make space for vernacular
languages in the educational setting did not meet with the expected success (Krishnaswamy
Krishnaswamy, 2006) (Sridhar, 1989). By 1970s and 1980s about one third of the Indiahad its
schools using English as their medium of instruction (Paranjpe Prasad, 2010). Hence the language
in education policy during the colonial era had created two different media of

The Timeless Truth of Madame Bovary Essay
The Timeless Truth of Madame Bovary
Written in 1857, Gustave Flaubert s Madame Bovary has become a literary classic. Emma
Bovary is a middle class country girl with a taste for rich things; she marries a doctor and has a
little girl. Her husband, Charles, adores her and thinks that she can do no wrong. He overlooks the
sign of her adultery, telling himself that her unhappiness is caused from her poor health, and
forgives her excessive spending. Madame Bovary s excessive desires seem to come from her
excessive reading of novels in which life seemed, to her, perfect. She tried to find out what one
meant exactly in life by the words felicity, passion, rapture, that had seemed to her so beautiful in
books (45). Through Emma, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He patted the children, never went to the public house, and, moreover, his morals inspired
confidence (79). Charles is very happy with his simple life, he thinks his wife is madly in love
with him, and he makes enough money to supply for their needs. Yet Emma still, though
comfortable and stable, longs for a grand life like she has read about in novels and the happiness
that she thinks all rich people have.
When her unhappiness becomes apparent to Charles, they move to the town of Yonville, thinking it
will do Emma some good. There Madame Bovary meets a young man named Monsieur Leon
Dupuis. She falls in love with Leon, but will not yield to him. This makes Emma hate Charles
more due to the fact that she must be faithful to him. On him alone, then, she concentrated all the
various hatreds that resulted from her boredom, and every effort to diminish only augmented it; for
this useless trouble was added to the other reasons for despair, and contributed still more to the
separation between them. . . . Domestic mediocrity drove her to lewd fancies, marriage tenderness
to adulterous desires (142).
Leon soon becomes tired of waiting for Emma and moves away. After Leon has left, Emma begins
to read and spends large amounts of money on herself to quench her discontentment. She reasons
that, A woman who had laid on herself such sacrifices could well allow herself certain whims (163).
But the things that Emma

Historical Argumentative Analysis
I thoroughly enjoyed reading your historical argument this week, and because our posts were so
similar, I thought you might be interested in hearing about how the government tried to streamline
another expensive federal program.
In 1981, in an attempt to cut the federal budget and streamline the free and reduced school lunch
programs, the government proposed to pass proposed reduction in the milk portions and the cut
from three fourths of a cup of two vegetables or fruits to half a cup. On that note, the Department of
Agriculture Department attempted to allow ketchup, pickle relish, and jam to be counted as fruits
and vegetable. Additionally, the guideline would allow for cakes, cookies, and corn chips to be
counted as part of the daily allotment

Comparing my Local Grocery Store to Walmart
For this assignment, I decided to go to a grocery store by my house named Meijer. Meijer is just
like any other grocery store, similar to Wal Mart, yet higher quality products than Wal Mart. The
clothing for both boys and girls sections are close together. I noticed that there are articles of
clothing that are similar for boys and girls, but they are called different names to make them more
masculine or feminine. For example, shirts for girls are called fashion tops and just shirts for
boys. Some patterns that I saw in the clothing/toys is that for almost each advertisement or label

Other factors are how kids play with each other, their peers they are surrounded by, and the
media. Males tend to be more physical when they play indicating that they are more aggressive
than females are. Both males and females play different sports than females. An instance would
be football, soccer, and wrestling, compared to cheerleading, gymnastics, and volleyball for the
girls. Football, soccer, and wrestling are a more physical contact sport than cheerleading,
gymnastics or volleyball are. Peers is also another part for socialization because the way boys or
girls act around each other. Children follow by example, so if they see their friends doing
something, they will most likely follow. As children get older, peers plays a bigger part in
influencing children to act a certain way according to society and other peers. Lastly, the media
is additionally has a huge impression on how kids should act and look. The commercials for
children on T.V. convince children what they should be playing with, who they should be
playing with, how they should look, and how they should act. It is very rare to see girls playing
Legos or hot wheels in commercials. The same is for boys, commercials do not promote boys
playing with and accessorizing with Barbie dolls. Some clothes that are deemed to be gender
neutral are certain types of shirts and shoes. An example of a gender neutral shirt

How My Group Members And I Worked Together
This final paper will explain how my group members and I worked together. This ties into the
final project for this class. My paper will show how I related to all the myths within a culture
and tie them to the real world. Below I will explain how everything turned out and how we came
up with out topic for the final project. I think as of now the level of engagement my partners
have participated in is very low. We decided we wanted to focus on the Greek culture on April
twenty fourth. I contacted them and asked how we wanted to split the work up or even start and
I had no responses. Finally at nine on Saturday night one of my group members messaged a link
to Google Documents, with only one slide started. I started working on the Google PowerPoint
at eleven at night and woke up this morning to see nothing had been added. I went back on
around eleven this morning and added new work. A little update to this situation it is now six,
nothing has been added, but my work and I have had zero contact with my group. So I will say
my group had little engagement in this project, one member did make the Google document, but
nothing has been started. I think I learned a lot about my teamwork skills. I am such a perfectionist
and like to get things done early. Working with a group makes it challenging, because people had
different timeschedules. I think I learned that I am someone who engages with a project more
often than my group, because I want to get my work done. My goal for this

Ethics Of Eating Meat Research Paper
Is becoming a vegan really such a bad idea? People are starting to ask the question that most
people think about almost every day how is it made Statistics shows that more and more people
are becoming vegan or vegetarian once realizing what is happing to the food that is being
processed so poorly. Eating processed meator any other processed foodis not ethical. Because there
are several animal cruelty and environmental disasters involving the process of the occurrence.
One of the main reasons meat eating is not ethical is because of the way it affects others. The
4.8 pounds of grain fed to cattle to make one pound of beef represents a colossal waste of
resources in a world teeming with hungry and malnourished people (Frank Doolittle). The food
used to feed the cattle could easily be used for helping end world hunger. The amount of waste that
is being created for each animal is substantial. U.S. animal farms generate billion of tons of animal
waste every year, which the Environmental Protection Agency says pollute our waterways more
than all other industrial sources combined (Doolittle). The amount of water used during the process

Interpersonal Relationships in Anne of Green Gables
This paper will cover the interpersonal relationships in the movie Anne of Green Gables. The
movie begins when a thirteen year old orphan girl Anne is adopted by siblings Marilla and
Matthew Cuthbert. They were expecting a boy to arrive on the train, but Anne was sent instead.
Marilla saw no need to keep her, because they had no need for a girl. They needed a boy to help
Matthew around the farm, but a short while after being on trial Anne was officially adopted. Anne
of Green Gables takes the journey of girl with an imagination bigger than life, hair as red as

The first phrase out of Gilbert s mouth to Anne was something she hated more than her red hair.
After Gilbert started picking on her and then said, Hey, Carrots! Carrots! the expressed struggle
between Anne and Gilbert is seen in full.(McDougall Sullivan, 1985) A second after he said
carrots Anne stands up and yells How dare you? while breaking a chalk slate over his head.
(McDougall Sullivan, 1985) Gilbert immediately took the blame when Anne was being
punished by the teacher, and after school apologizes to her. He did not realize that what he
meant as an attention grabber would only gain him hate. Now Anne could have accepted his
apology and they could have gone on being friends, but Anne saw no way to do that. The pain
from his remark left her numb to knowing how to forgive him. The expressed struggle is
expressed throughout the rest of the movie when Gilbert seeks to help Anne, or to be her friend.
Another example of expressed struggle is when Anne took a dare to walk across the ridge pole
of a roof. Almost halfway across the roof she fell and broke her ankle. Gilbert was the first one
to help her up, and then offered her a ride home despite the expressed struggle. She acknowledged
his help and thanked him for it, then neglected to allow him to help her. The struggle was
recognized and could have been resolved much sooner if Anne has just let go

Ethos In Letter From Birmingham Jail
On April 16, 1963, Martin Luther King Jr. wrote an open letter to African Americans and all
Americans who care about the civil right movement. In order to defend the strategy of
nonviolent resistance to racism and respond to being called an outsider, King wrote his famous
letter Letter from a Birmingham Jail. So why the King s letter is so powerful and convincing to
the readers? Is it because of his identity of civil rights leader and his credibility(ethos)? Is it by
the reason of the argument there are just laws and unjust laws (King) which he exerted
numerous theoretical basis with utmost efforts(logos)? Or, It s due to his passionate writing
style and the description of the image of the oppressed black people(pathos). Actually, It s all of
them. These are the rhetorical method King used in his letter. At the beginning of the letter, King
had already manifested his great ethos. He showed his sincere attitude to readers to better
answer their questions, But since I feel that you are men of genuine good will and that your
criticisms are sincerely set forth, I want to try to answer your statement in what I hope will be
patient and reasonable terms (King), which enabled him to establish his trust in some demanding
readers. Moreover, at the end of the letter, he wrote, I also hope that circumstances will soon
make it possible for me to meet each of you, not as an integrationist or a civil rights leader but as a
fellow clergyman and a Christian brother (King). This shows

The Mental And Emotional Effects Of Life During The Secret...
The Mental and Emotional Effects of Life in the Secret Annexe Imagine dozens of families
being seized from their house for no particular reason, or imagine a dirty and desolate
campground with hardly any food and little to no chance of surviving. These are the horrors the
the German Nazis brought to life in the 1930 s and 1940 s, where they persecuted Jews and
forced them to work in labor camps or serve in concentration camps before being eventually killed
off via gas chambers or being shot. Anne Frankand her family are just one of many to suffer at the
hands of the Nazis, but her story is the most famous. Anne Frank and her family hid in a location
known as the Secret Annexe when the Nazis came for them, a small area behind the business
building of Anne s father s company. She and her family lived here in hiding with four other
people in hiding for nearly two years before being discovered and being sent to concentration
camps. During their stay in the annex, the living conditions of being in hiding created tension
among the people there, which changed the eight originally kind and caring people into selfish and
harsh individuals. The people of the Secret Annexe changed and warped emotionally and mentally
in a negative way as shown by the seeming hostility in the conversations between the annex
inhabitants, the selfish actions of the people in the annex, and the thoughts of the inhabitants who
try to convince themselves that they will survive the war that show how

for decades with high quality products. Nintendo owes much of it s success to it s marketing
strategy especially early in it s development. The first Nintendo console to be offered in the United

a well thought out marketing plan that would differentiate Nintendo s product from the previous
video games that had disappointed Americans so much.
The lack of consumer confidence in the United States was partially due to the misrepresentation of

College Students Are Responsible For Interpreting And...
College students are responsible for interpreting and remembering a vast amount of information. An
efficient method for remembering things can be associations that are pictures or sounds that aid a
person in remembering information. There also can be certain distractions that can hinder the
amount of information that one can recollect. In a two way ANOVA, we tested the effect that
associations and distractions can have on memoryrecall. We hypothesized that when an association
was present, participants would be able to record more words than when there not any associations
present. We also hypothesized that when a distractionwas present, participants would record less
words than when distractions are not present. We used a between subjects design and with the use
of a visual presentation to we tested college level students on their memory recall. According to the
data collected, we accept the null hypothesisfor both of the hypothesis. Since none of the trials
presented to the participants contained a significant difference, associations and distractions that
were tested were not significant enough to be from a different population.
Introduction
The research and experimentation that was done in this study is very important in the efforts to
learn more on the issue of memory recall and what specifically can effect one s performance. This
information can help improve the methods of teaching in schools where students heavily rely on
memorizing things. It is pertinent

What The Confucian Ideas And Practices Are Essay
In this essay, to make it easier to understand when I begin to address the main problem presented
by the question I will first give a brief outline of what the Confucian ideas and practices are. I
will then do as the question asks and evaluate the critique, I will do this by going on to decide
how valid I believe the critique to be and proposing some responses to it to see how the critique
really holds up, before going on to discuss some alternative critiques and whether I see them to
be more valid. So to begin some context, Confucius was born in 551 B.C.E. as far as the books
say, to a class of society that despite being noble had fell upon hard times. (Yu lan, 1952, P.43)
All thinkers during this time the warring states were looking back to an imagined golden age,
when China was a unified empire, the people were at peace, and people knew and followed the
Way or Dao. Most thinkers of this time looked to achieve this once again. (Yu lan, 1952, p.43)
Confucius s main ideas and practices then. To Confucius the Dao or way, is considered to be
nothing more or less than the way a person choices to live their life. (Cua, Ames, 2003, p.61) The
root of Confucius ideas is the idea that there is no individual or self but that one is one s roles
and relationships. For Confucius then the goal of life to achieve happiness for oneself and the
people we believe to make up ourselves via roles and relationships. (Cua, Ames, 2003, p.61) That
is we should focus on bringing

The Resurgence Of Social Unrest
On August 9, 2014, the resurgence of social unrest similar to the 1960s civil rights movement
began. Michael Brown, a black teenager in Ferguson, Missouri, was shot and killed by Darren
Wilson, a white police officer. Initially, the shooting had minor media attention, but it slowly
accumulated. As more media outlets shed light on the topic, many people, especially those in the
black community, suspected that the shooting was racially charged. After the shooting of Michael
Brown, more stories of unarmed black peoplebeing killed by white officers surfaced, suggesting
that the acts were not out of self defense, but rather racial prejudice. The increasing rate of race
related shootings suggests that ignorance is the root of these officers ... Show more content on

All five statements notably differed from Wilson s account.
Dorian Johnson, Brown s friend, was with him when Wilson stopped them near a local
convenience store. Johnson recounted that Wilson ordered him and Brown to walk on the
sidewalk. Wilson allegedly pulled Brown by the neck into his car, but Brown escaped Wilson s
grip before running away. Wilson stepped out of his car and shot at Brown resulting in Brown s
infamous hands up, don t shoot surrender (Eromosele, 5 Eyewitness Accounts of Michael Brown s
Shooting ). Johnson s report suggests that Wilson was not threatened by Mike Brown, and Michael
tried to surrender to the officer. Based on Johnson s account, Brown had not provoked Officer
Wilson or caused any major disturbances in order to be shot.
Tiffany Mitchell, Piaget Crenshaw, and Emmanuel Freeman retell similar narratives about the
struggle between Brown and Wilson. Mitchell observed the gunfire through her car window as
she awaited the arrival of Crenshaw. Crenshaw stood on her balcony as she witnessed Wilson s
pursuit of Brown; her crucial description included the detail that Brown s body was reversed from
the direction he ran because he attempted to inform Wilson that he was defenseless. Crenshaw s
point about the direction of Brown s body connects with Johnson s point that Brown faced the
officer to surrender. Freeman tweeted about the shots he overheard outside of his home. A

Comparing Edwards Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God...
Jonathan Edwards creates a more effective argument for the intended audience in Sinners in the
Hands of an Angry God than The Speech in the Virginia Convention written by Patrick Henry, by
utilizing various techniques. Patrick Henry makes a strong argument however in the end, Edwards
sermon grows to be more effective. Edwards creates the argument by strengthening the writing
through tone, structure, fallacies and knowledge of the congregation that became his audience.
Henry s piece uses methods of oratory persuasion but the actual topic of Sinners in the Hands of an

The tone appeals to several fallacies of logic such as, Bandwagon, Broad Generalization, Either Or

The use of tone that includes fallacies helps Edwards write a more convincing piece than Patrick

Cities grew up and out, with such famed architects as Louis Sullivan working on and perfecting

people could walk through to get around to a huge metropolis that required commuting by
electric trolleys. Electricity, indoor plumbing, and telephones made city life more alluring.

contended that the Bible was merely a collection of moral stories or guidelines, but not sacred

had been widely persuaded by the theory of evolution. Others blended creationism and evolution to
invent their own interpretations.

Since the ancient times up today, the perception of good and evil has always existed. As an
example, in the Christian Bible, evil is represented by the figure of Satan who before transforming
himself into a demon, he was one of the most confidant and influence angels in heaven. However,
due to the fact of his ambitious to become more powerful than the same Creator, Godsent him to
earth. As a matter of fact, in the bible Satan is portrayed as the cost of temptation and the promoter
of mankind`s disobedience toward God. For this reason, people have stereotyped the image of
Satan as selfish, evil, and numb and loser. Nevertheless, John Milton in his book, Paradise Lost
(Book 1), has transformed the image of Satan, and personified him as an... Show more content on

Likewise, they think that this evil spirit does not have feelings such as pity and mercy. Indeed,
the only divinity who can show true love is God who cares about individuals and protects them.
Moreover, the Creator is the only one that can be clement and give internal peace to his creation.
On the other hand, Milton in Paradise Lost personifies Satan as a guy who does care about others.
For example, in lines 267 68 and 270, he worries about the suffering that the demons were going
through in hell. Furthermore, he calls up these souls, and gives them hope, promise and peace that
God takes away from them. Consequently, Satan does matters about the living conditions of other

The Federal Budget Deficit And National Debt
The Federal Budget Deficit and National Debt Basically, what the federal budget deficit is a
shortage of funds that are available for the government, where more money is being spent than
what the government receives. But, national is where the government borrows money through
various ways. The data for national debt and federal budget deficit from the year 2001 2013 is
given in the chart above. As we can see in the graph, the deficit is still remains in our economy
even though there had been a surplus in 1999 to 2001. But, we could see a lot if decreases such as
from the year 2004 2007, 2009 2010 and also from 201 2014, but generally the deficit kept
increasing yearly. The data provided is in trillions and a positive value means... Show more content

From the graph above, for instance, we could say that the budget deficit increased rapidly from
2007 2009 and we could say that the main is due to the Great Recession. The governments act
trying to counter attack this effect by improving fiscal policy for the betterment of business
cycle lead to more outlay than revenue, which resulted in the increase of the deficit promptly.
So, therefore borrowing the money to deal with deficit lead to increase in the national debt.
Crowding out occurs when spending by an individual or an organisation or to be more precise,
private spending decreases and by increasing the government spending. People sometimes use
this as an alternative replacement and lets the government to spend more. This is a very big
problem causer because as the government decided to spend more, it leads to higher budget
deficit and debt and the overall spending may decline rapidly. So, therefore if they let the
government to spend more instead of them it results to the lesser consumption of resources and
spending on it. This can lead to decreasing the interest rates which results in less investment by
people and major drop in the business sector. In order to shift the economy up from the times and
effect of the great recession, government tend to raise the budgets at times, government give more
outlays in the form of social security and other fiscal policy techniques. As a result, the government
borrows capital to pay for this,

The Beatles Analysis
We have learned throughout this semester that not only did the Beatles create great music, they
changed rock and roll forever. This paper will analyze three songs of the Beatles. These songs
will include: Please Please Me , Yellow Submarine , and Helter Skelter. All three being from
different musical eras of the Beatles. First, we will discuss Please Please Me from the Beatlemania
era. Please Please Me was released in January 1963 as a single and would go on to be the Beatles
first number one hit. The lineup included John Lennon on lead vocals, rhythm guitar, and
harmonica, Paul McCartney on harmony vocals, and bass, George Harrisonon harmony vocals, and
lead guitar, and of course, Ringo Starr on drums. As with a lot of songs from the Beatlemania era,
Please Please Me focuses on innocent boy girl love. It also has a very upbeat tempo that makes it
sound like a pop song. Looking at the lyrics, it is about a boy talking to his girl, pleading her to
please him like he does for her. Moving on to the music, the verses progress in E A E G A B E A E.
Moving on to the chorus, we have A F#m C#m A E A B E, and the bridge with an A B E
progression. Listening to the song, emphasis is put on my , try , way , and say in the verses by
changing from E to A. The lyrics please please me are also sung in a higher key which makes it
sound like the boy in the song is actually begging. The Beatles also use a callback pattern when
they are singing come on, come on in the

Emma s Management of Harriet s Affairs in Jane Austen s...
Emma s Management of Harriet s Affairs in Jane Austen s Emma
In this novel, Jane Austen uses the relationship between Emma and Harriet to highlight the
important issues. She uses Emma s management of Harriet to do this. She creates contrast between
Emma and Harriet, she portrays Emma as beautiful and intelligent though we can still see faults in
her personality. The main fault is her desire to control people and matchmake them. This also raises
issues, including the position of women and Emma s social status, marriage and comedy which is
shown through irony, especially in the relationship between Emma and Harriet.
The first thing we read is Emma Woodhouse, handsome, clever and rich . By... Show more content

This shows that Austen had views ahead of her time. When Emma hears of Mr Martin s proposal,
she believes that Harriet s status is higher than his, and should refuse the offer when, in fact, this is
not true at all. In this sense, Emma is very naГЇve and shows how she misjudges situations. Mr
Martin is of a higher social class than Harriet and also has more money. Here Emma is misusing
her patronage.
A further theme of the novel is patronage and how Emma abuses it. When Harriet refuses Mr
Martin s proposal, we can see that Harriet realises that she is in no position to do so, but Emma
does not realise this, portraying Emma as being quite ignorant of this issue. Mr Woodhouse Emma
s father is satirised by Austen to be a worrier, and is oblivious to what goes on around him. He,
therefore, does not see Emma s matchmaking and management of people. He is one of the main
people of whom Emma manages. Through this we see that Austen characterises Emma to abuse her
own patronage.
The position of women was an issue in Austen s time and is highlighted in this novel. At this time,
women had very much a lower position in society than men but, because of Emma s inheritance
and family history, she is an exception to the rule. With the power this gives her, we see yet another
contrast between Harriet and Emma. Emma s intelligence and Harriet s lack of it is another
contrast. Emma has this

Rhetorical Analysis Of Jfk s Inaugural Speech
Every choice, every action and every decision we make has a consequence. A couple weeks ago, I
read two speeches by the 16th president, who served two terms, and an American politician, who is
the brother of John F. Kennedy. The first speech I read was delivered on April 4th in 1968 by
Robert F. Kennedy. He spoke about the Assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. that occured in
Memphis, Tennessee that same night. The second one was Abraham Lincolns Sencond Inaugural
Address. Kennedy s speech occured after Martin Luther King s Assassination and Lincoln s
happened after he was elected president for a second term. In Robert F. Kennedy s speech, he
mentions race, hatred and the lack of compassion we have for one another. Although, in Abraham
Lincoln s speech, he mentions the tragedy of the American Civil War, the distribution of slaves, and
God. Robert F. Kennedy s speech was intended to bring the nation together as a whole instead of
being sepearated by race. Also, Kennedy used this speech to mention that one of his family
members were killed by a white man, in order to empathize with everyone who was affected by the
news of Dr. King s assassination. His speech included:
those of you who are black [...] filled with hatred and mistrust of the injustice of such an act,
against all white people [...] feel in my own heart the same kind of feeling. (Kennedy, 1968)
Robert F. Kennedy tried his hardest to unite people with this speech about the Assassination of
Martin Luther King Jr. He wanted every American, whether they are black, white, hispanic or
middle eastern, to acknowledge the lack of compassion, love and unity in our nation. Robert F.
Kennedy started his speech by informing everyone that Martin Luther King Jr. was shot in
Memphis, Tennessee on April 4, 1968. He continued talking about how Martin Luther King
dedicated his life to love and justice between fellow human beings . Kennedy then asked everyone
in the crowd what kind of nation they were and what direction they want to move in. In Robert F.
Kennedy s speech he said:
black people amongst blacks, and white amongst whites, filled with hatred toward another. [...] with
an effort to understand, compassion, and love. (Kennedy, 1968) Robert F.

Health Care Reform Throughout The United States
Abstract
Health care reform and health care itself has been a debatable subject for quite some time. Health
care is a major issue that is found not only in the United States, but around the world. Controversy
has gone around this subject due to the causes and effects of the reform and the matter of not being
successful as many hoped. The World Prosperity Organization and the Institute of Medicinehave
two intriguing viewpoints about health care reform and what is needed to be done. The World
Prosperity Organization touches bases on medical negligence, premedical education, money,
mindset, medical school and the health care system itself. The Institute of Medicine focuses on the
need for healthcare to be safe, effective, patient centered, timely, efficient and equitable. As the
viewpoints are noticeably different, they still wrap around the idea that health care reform has
room for improvement to be more successful and not have a negative impact on people around the
world. The both agree that something needs to be done and done soon. Health Care Reform Health
care is an important topic that needs to be addressed more often and looked into more thoroughly.
For many years, and even today, our health care system in the United States has effected many and
been the cause of numerous cases throughout our country. It must be noted that this problem is not
just within our country but various countries around the world. This has caused many people,

The Impact Of Humanism In The Renaissance
During the Renaissance, a program of study known as humanism, impacted education, art, politics,
and ultimately shaped the Italian Renaissance. Humanism is defined as a program of study
designed by Italians that emphasized the critical study of Latin and Greek literature with the goal of
understanding human nature. [1] Humanism changed people s views and allowed them to start
portraying people in a more realistic and relatable way. Many artists began to drift away from
religious subjects and instead, began to focus more on individuals and their lives. In addition,
humanism also allowed people to create new architecture that resembled classical constructions.
Humanism impacted many visual arts, which include Leonardo da Vincis Mona Lisa, Michelangelo
s David, and Filippo Brunelleschi s Dome. The Mona Lisa was painted between 1503 and 1506
by Leonardo da Vinci, and is one of the most famous paintings in the world today. The painting is
a portrait of Lisa Gherardini, and was painted for her husband, Francesco del Giocondo.
Humanism has impacted this portrait in various ways. Lisa s smile has been described to be so
enigmatic [1] that people are still trying to interpret the feelings behind her smile. The painting is
greatly impacted by humanism as it focuses on realism and relatability, allowing Lisa to be
portrayed as an everyday woman with the same flaws and impurities as anyone else. This differs
from the Middle Agesas all people used to be portrayed in such as

Alcohol is a drug that is classified as a central nervous system depressant. There are three forms of
alcohol, beer, wine and distilled spirits. Alcohol is one of the most commonly used drugs in the
United States and has more adverse effects that most other drugs combined. There are many aspects
to consider when thinking about alcoholas a drug. There are many myths surrounding alcohol,
including who uses it, what its effects are on users, social and sexual situations and the amounts
people drink. The vast majority of the American population uses alcohol and in many various ways

Because these people used alcohol they automatically put themselves at a higher risk, than non
drinkers, for alcohol related injuries, problems with the law and many different negative health
effects, including liver dysfunction, (MU Health, 2004). Users of alcohol also put others around
them at a higher risk for negative consequences including disruption of events and studying,
(Statistics on Alcohol, 2000).
Although all types of drinking can have adverse effects, there are different levels of use that
result in different effects. Moderate drinking is defined as drinking that generally does not cause
problems in the drinker or society, typically one drink per day. This low level of alcohol
consumption has been shown in studies to, reduce stress, decrease tension and anxiety, (NIAAA,
2000). Social drinking generally does not cause problems with the individual as long as the amount
consumed does not increase over time, but this level of drinking has not been known to have any
positive effects. Binge drinking is classified as having five or more drinks in one sitting. This is the
level of use that college students engage in on the weekends. Some social effects that have been
noted by students are the increased ability to break the ice in conversation, allowing people to have
more fun, and facilitating sexual opportunities, (Statistics on Alcohol, 2000). However the Core
Institute survey showed that of the students who had engaged in binge drinking at least

The Rescuers And Aid For Jews During The Holocaust
In studying the rescuers and aid to Jews during the Holocaust, there are few, if any, factors that
prove to universally explain why people decided to help. These people defied most demographics;
class, country, religion, and even included anti Semites, though economic and practical
determinations were involved so much as one s ability to help is determined by economic
/practical restraints. Even so, most, if not all, of these people did have the propensity for helping
and service to other prior to helping Jews of the Holocaust. Nechama Tec and later Perry Lendon
found this to be true, showing that in these people was an instinct to help, regardless of their
feelings towards Jews. This characteristic coincided with independent, self reliant people who
felt less attached to social demands and saw helping as a fact rather than heroic act. While these
characterize individuals, the level at which specific countries were willing to help Jews did differ.
Denmark and Bulgaria helped more than countries like Romania. In Denmark, there were a
smaller amount of Jews and most were already assimilated into society before the Nazis came in.
This allowed them to easily blend and hid within Denmark, and eventually Jews were helped to
escape in 1943 as the Nazi encroached into Denmark. Hungary, on the other hand, held intense anti
Semitic views, but chose to help Jews (somewhat) because they did not believe in the methodology
used by the Nazis against Jews. Hungary refused deportations

Explain How To Determine The Visual And Academic Ability...
1.List at least three resources you should use to determine the visual and academic ability of a
student with a visual impairment. There are many resources a teacher can refer to in order to
determine the visual and academic ability of a student with a visual impairment. It is always best
to consult the primary source, the student, who often knows what their needs are. It is important to
form a relationship with the student because they will feel more comfortable expressing those
needs to their teacher. Another helpful source are parents and guardians, they live with their child,
therefore know their strengths and weaknesses, as well as understand the child more. Parents
might also be able to inform the teacher on what works best for their child. Teachers should also
look over their student s individualized education program (IEP), which will have a lot of useful
information. For example, the IEP will describe a child s strengths and weaknesses, academic goals,
instructional and physical accommodations and/or modifications, and a list of additional services
and/or assistive technology devices. Furthermore, traditional teachers can consult with a teacher for
the visually impaired (TVI) who can suggest strategies that will help the student learn more
effectively. The last resources, includes an orientation and mobility (O M) specialist, who helps
visually impaired students navigate in the classroom and at school, such as on the playground and

Avoiding the Possessive Shadow of Society
Ralph Waldo Emerson once wrote, It is easy in the world to live after the world s opinion; it is
easy in solitude to live after our own; but the great man is he who in the midst of the crowd
keeps with perfect sweetness the independence of solitude. (Emerson 1) Being one s self in
today s society is increasingly difficult every year and can have a major effect on the mental
state of teenagers. It is easy to follow the pack, but then one is just a faceless person marching in
with the crowd with no true purpose; true strength is in those who try to be themselves in the face
of society. Many teens struggle with their identities and can turn to self harm or even suicide to
relieve their pain, yet not enough effort goes into trying to help these struggling teens. In fact in a
recent study done for Curing the illness: suicide prevention , professor John Wensly states that
Suicide rates are increasing alarmingly. Every year we see a ten percent increase in suicide
attempts alone. (Wensly 23) In his book Into the Wild, Jon Krakauer writes about Christopher
McCandless, who did anything but live in society s large and possessive shadow. Chris broke free
from society s chains and lived his life with adventure despite the numerous people telling him to
stop. Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer focuses on Christopher McCandless and his mysterious
decision to live on the road.

Hito Steyerl Vs Francisco De Goya
In this essay, a comparison and contrast of Hito Steyerl (born 1966) with that of Francisco de
Goya (1746 1828) work of art will be made. These artists have been selected to demonstrate that
they both can be defined as revolutionary artists but within separate art periods. To demonstrate this,
it must first be defined what is revolutionary art and how does it affect us? The history of art has
gone through constant changes from movement to movement, with ideas being portrayed
differently. Revolutionary art is something that people take notice the many years after being
presented. It leaves a lasting impression no matter the genre or means to make it. Even though
Goya and Steyerl are artists from different eras, they still contribute value to the art community.

Laurie Halse Anderson s Speak Book Analysis
Melinda Sordino is raped weeks before her freshman year, but nobody knows. Coming from a
struggling family and friends that ignore her, Melinda has no one to tell. As her grades fall and
her self esteem with it, she must choose to speak up against her rapist when he tries to take

that show the time period, and the philosophy of speaking up all contribute to why she wrote the
novel. Laurie Halse Anderson faced many struggles as a young adult and shares her battles

Once they were downstairs in the living room Cody went to the dining table to color and Emily was

Women During The 19th Century
Men and women play different roles in society. In the beginning of the 19th century, the gap
between males and females was much larger than it is now. Back then men and women were
usually assumed to have certain occupations. For example, in the 1950s women were supposed to
become housewives and stay at home all day cleaning, cooking, or taking care of their children
(Parry 1584). Men on the other hand, were suspected to go out and work all day doing whatever
occupation they held. Due to the media uprising in the 19th century, women began to feel restrained
on what they can accomplish. They began to care about their appearance more than anything else.
This is one of the factors that created the gendergap, but society has always had the gap that has
separated the two. This picture was taken in California in 1921, and it depicts Dr. Louis Estes
helping his daughter put on her boxing gloves while she gets ready to square up against her little
brother. The title of the picture describes the daughter as husky which does not make sense. The
word husky, usually applied to overweight individuals, does not accurately describe the girl in the
photo. It is possible that the author may be referring to her as more masculine than feminine in the
picture. This influential image shows the daughter as taller than both males in the photo which
asserts dominance. Also, both Dr. Estes and his son s eyes, both lead to the daughter s, which
makes her the focal point of the image. Dr. Estes

School Boards And Legislative Bodies
During the Great Depression, schools began to provide lunch programs for school students, since
many homes could not afford to feed their children a full, well balanced meal (Hinman 16).
Throughout the past eighty years the budgets, regulations, and policies have been changed multiple
times. Whether or not these changes are helpful, are up for debate, and are topics many school
boards and legislative bodies are forced to discuss. Some of the most controversial topics being
discussed are the cost students pay, the quality of the food, the amount of food going to waste, and
the obesity rate of students. The lunches that are served in schools are typically over priced,
made of poor quality, thrown away, and is one of the leading causes to the increasing obesity
rates. Two dollars and seventy five cents is the average price students pay unless they are
receiving free or reduced lunches. The issue with these prices is that only a small fraction of

Pow Camps And The Concentration Camps
Jace Thacker Pre AP English II, B8 Mrs. Connor April 17, 2015 Prisoners of Death Bang! Boom!
All you can see is darkness, but you hear as if outside. Prisoners of war were captured
everywhere during WWII. POW camps had better treatment and were better than than other
concentration camps. The conditions of the camps varied from one to another, but from Stalags
and Concentration camps, they were close to the same. A large portion of deaths in POW
camps were from lack of food (Uhl 1). The recommended daily minimum was a 2,000 calorie diet
(Rees 5).However this was impossible to do with the shortage of food. (Rees 5). Some of the
food was potatoes and moldy bread (Uhl 1) which was part sawdust (Uhl 1). Many only got 5
grams of bread (Solzhenitsyn 25). Millions of people were surely to die (Jones 11). Although the
camps were harsh, the prisoners were allowed to do many activities such as sports, newspaper,
musicals, and more (Uhl 2). Many camps featured musical and plays to entertain others and to be
used as propaganda (Uhl 2). Even though the POW s had better choices, they were still beaten
and murdered like the others captured. (Uhl 2). In eight months, Nazis murdered 2.8 Russian Pow
s, exceeding the amount of mass murder during the holocaust. (Uhl 2). While in the camps, many
died from the Baatan Death March that killed off all remaining prisoners of the Japanese (
Prisoners of War 4). The weather was also a large aspect to the deaths. The prisoner s fingers were

Essay On Ancient Roman Weapons
Ancient Egypt and Ancient Rome Gateway Project
Mike S.
Ancient Egypt and Ancient Rome weapons, imagine this: out in the field of war, fighting your
fiercest enemy yet, the Ancient Romans, as the Ancient Egyptians you would fear them, large
catapults, strong bows, and armed chariots.
These are some facts about Ancient Egypt.
Ancient Egypt did not have strong weapons, they had wooden bows, copper swords, and horrible
metalworking, they stole the sickle sword from the hyksos, now you may think that metalworking
and copper swords are the same thing but, when they learned how to make chariots they used iron

They created the cannon from the slingshot. They always hit a target, when they shot their huge
weapons these were devastating blows.
The Ancient Romans built a wall over 2000 years ago out of wood, this is one of the oldest
structures in Ancient Rome. They got a huge advantage over other countries with the wall. A
tower every 800 meters (0.49709695 Miles) away. This wall is easily burned as it was made of
wooden stakes. Ancient Romans had cavalry (Soldiers who fought on horseback) they wore mail
or scale armor.
The similarities:
Ancient Egypt And Ancient Rome both had hand slings this used rocks instead of arrows in them.
They both had very strong armor to wear. They had spears and javelins to throw. They both had war
gods that helped them in the battles that they fought.
The differences:
Different helmet types to cover the head. Different battle crests to show the spirit of the troops. All
people battled differently this allowed them to A. surprise or B. fight not flee.
They also all had different battle cries (Going into war, winning the war, taking down an enemy) all
different.

Renaissance Vs Secularism
There are many similarities between the Renaissance era and the Middle Ages. The similarities are
set around the idea of utilizing both Christianity and secular ideas within their art, music and
literature. However, their difference are easily recognizable and definitely set them apart, despite
the fact that the time period overlaps in some cases. The differences that are shown between the
two reflect how the Renaissanceperiod really showed massive progression. Through looking at the
literature, and the way the genres developed; the music and how music became more universal and
the art, in how their new ideas became more personal, we will clearly see the differences between
the two time periods. When it comes to literature during the Middle... Show more content on

Their inspiration came from the gothic look, utilizing elegant refinement but also now utilizing
mixture of paints to create bold colors (Humanities, 280). For the Renaissance period however,
they brought back the idea of humanism, which consisted of creating nudes. Nudes were used in
a way to celebrate the beauty of the body and to give God glory for his creation. The only rule
they had to keep in mind while using nudes in their art was that they could only be created if
there was good reason, such as using a story from the bible (Messner 4 16 2018). It is clear to see
that they truly did still focus on the importance of Christianity in their

Macular Degeneration in Two Forms Essay
Macular Degeneration in Two Forms
Macular Degeneration is a disease of the eye that gradually causes loss of a person s central
vision. Approximately 1.75 million Americans suffer from vision loss associated with the disease
(All About Vision 1). The leading cause of blindness in people over the age of 60, Macular
Degeneration, exists in two types (National Eye Institute 1). Both the wet and dry versions of the
disease have similarities in risk factors, but differ in symptoms and treatments.
Although the causes of each type of the Macular Degeneration are different, the risk factors are
essentially the same. The wet form of the disease is caused by small blood vessels that grow
beneath the retina. The blood vessels leak blood and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The dry form is broken down into three stages; Early, Intermediate, and Advanced (National Eye
Institute 3). In the Early stage, people have several small or few medium yellow deposits under
the retina called drusen. This stage shows no symptoms or vision loss. During the second stage,
Intermediate, more medium or even large deposits happen. As this happens, a blurred spot can
develop and more light could be needed for reading. Lastly, in the Advanced stage, a breakdown of
light sensitive cells and tissue causes the blurred spot to enlarge and darken. In this latter stage,
facial recognition is unlikely unless the person is extremely close. Either form of Macular
Degeneration can only be detected by thorough eye exams. The exam should include visual acuity,
which measures sight at varied distance intervals. Also, dilation of the eyes will allow an
ophthalmologist to check the retina and optic nerve. An instrument called a Tonometer will
measure pressure within the eyes (National Eye Institute 6).
Treatment options exist for the wet type; however, the dry has none. The wet version of Macular
Degeneration can be treated with laser surgery, photodynamic therapy, and direct injections in order
to try to slow the progression. Laser surgery is used to subdue the leaking blood vessels. During
this procedure, healthy blood vessels and tissue may inadvertently be damaged.

Freudian Perspectives of Shakespeare s Hamlet Essay
Freudian Perspectives of Hamlet
The term consciousness refers to one s awareness of internal and external stimuli. The unconscious
contains thoughts, memories, and desires that are well below the surface of awareness but that
nonetheless exert great influence on behavior. (Weiten) The core of the Freudian perspective is
centered around Hamlet s relationship with his mother, and the relationship of Hamlet and King
Claudius. According to the Freudian view, Hamlet is driven by unconscious sexual desire and
aggravation. This sexual aggression is directed towards his mother and Claudius.

In doing so, one will come to the conclusion that Hamlet is driven by forces other than what is
obvious to the reader, as well as Hamlet himself. Given this example, one must denounce the
assumption that Hamlet is aware of the forces that motivate him, and understand that Hamlet s true
motivation is unconscious This unconscious force is the true reason behind Hamlet s mysterious
behavior. In naming this force, one must look beneath the surface of Hamlet s own level of
consciousness, and into what Hamlet himself is consciously unaware. The key to understanding
Hamlet lies in the realization of the unconscious energy that provokes him to action and inaction.
By channeling into Hamlet s unconscious, providing Freudian psychoanalytical perspectives,
Hamlet s true unconscious motivation will be uncovered, and the mystery of Hamlet will be
silenced.

What Is A Superfluous Man
When Mikhail Lermontov wrote A Hero of Our Time, his main character, Gregory Alexandovich
Pechorin was arguably the prototype of what was to become the superfluous man, which would
become prominent in so many other Russian novels. As most literature s subtle goals are not so
easily discernable, Lermontov subtly used Pechorin to debunk romanticism in an indirect way. He
did so in a way that shocks readers out of their ordinary idea of what a protagonist (specifically
romantic) should be, because Pechorin is in fact, a superfluous man. The understanding of what
Romanticism, the Byronic Hero, and how the superfluous man came to be, shows how it can be
iterated that Pechorin helps show Romanticism as the set of damaging set of ideals it really... Show

It sounds glamourous in theory. Russia contracted Romanticism through Germany due to Catherine
the Great s emphasis on education amongst other things, Few other rulers of her time who had such
sweeping plans for reform. (Billlington) Catherine also brought over many other educated peoples
for her government in fact 30% of her government was not Russian (Hosking). Russia needed her
youth to go to other countries to bring the education there. Due to students traveling abroad, works
were translated from French, eventually prose was introduced, as well as Gallicisms (Billington).
This seems to only point more towards where Romanticism came from. Ironically, neither Russia
nor Germany spoke the romantic language, French. Arguably, Romanticism was born of the
political upheaval and empowerment of the people of France and America for that matter. After this
age of revolutions, the energy left over from the realization that people have these undeniable
human rights probably led to a core value of Romanticism, which is that everyone has a

Rubber Men and Flashbacks: Narrative Complexity in American Horror Story: Murder House
In the third episode of Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk s anthology drama American Horror Story:
Murder House (henceforth AHS: Murder House), Violet Harmon, the daughter of Ben and Vivien
Harmon (the owners of the titular house) begins a relationship with Tate Langdon. It is only in the
sixth episode that she finds out that Tate is not in fact alive: he was shot and killed in 1994 by
police following his murder of 15 students at his high school. Up until then, and even afterwards,
Violet and Tate co exist harmoniously. The audience almost forgets that Tate is a ghost. This

A narratively complex show thus rejects the episodic convention of a return to the original status
quo at the end of each episode, as one might see in an episode of Friends. Problems are often left
unresolved to be expanded upon in future episodes. Narrative complexity is thus cumulative and
unconventional: it is a combination of episodic closure and serial accumulation, and employs new
and engaging narratives and forms of storytelling (Jackson). Of the many ways to achieve narrative
complexity, Mittell discusses operational aesthetic, which can best be described as something
similar to special effects. Operational aesthetic is augmented in certain moments within a
narratively complex program. That being said, complex television employs something called the
narrative special effect, which is when a program makes use of certain storytelling tools, to
engage the viewer (Mittell 43). It is by way of the narrative special effect that the media makers
attempt to foster engagement in audiences by planting clues, and this can be achieved through, for
example, shifts in perspective or time, dreams or fantasy sequences, and the absence of clear
storytelling cues. The result is that audiences focus and speculate on form and structure in addition
to content (Jackson). As a narratively complex program, AHS: Murder House makes use of
narrative special effects to drive its storyline and to develop its characters. Episodes start in
different time periods, and characters are often

The Problem Of Nuclear Power
Nuclear power is one of the most controversial issues of today s society. This stems from the fact
that although nuclear power holds vast amounts of potential, it currently has many problems. One
of the main problems is figuring out what to do with the waste. The waste itself is too dangerous
to dispose of in any conventional way, so presently, most of it is sealed in concrete casks and put
into storage (in bunkers) until it stops being dangerous. This might not seem like a bad idea at first,
but the problem with this idea is that the waste won t stop being dangerous for many, many years.
There have to be better solutions to this problem.
As it turns out, there are a few. The most promising in the short term is to recycle the nuclear
waste, like any normal type of waste. In order to understand how this and some other solutions
work, a crash course in basic nuclear physics will be provided. Now, that might sound a bit
difficult, but it s actually pretty simple, and chances are some of it was taught in elementary
school science class. Anyone who feels they already know what they need to know, or can t be
bothered to read it, should feel free to skim through or skip the crash course.
Let s get started! Every physical object in existence is made of atoms. Atoms are made of three
basic components: protons, neutrons, and electrons. Protons carry a positive(+) electrostatic charge,
electrons carry a negative( ) electrostatic charge and are about a thousandth the mass of a proton,

The liturgy of war reveals how those entrusted with the spiritual care of the soldiers were used
and also how those soldiers were affected by the words of the religious men among them.
Constantine is known to have claimed seeing a vision of the cross which was an indication of
divine help. And if his soldiers were to paint the symbol of the cross on their shields then, victory
would be granted. His victory over the Roman Empire begun what was to be the Christianization
of the conquered territory. But it was during the rise of the Carolingian monarchy that seems to
have changed the history of war rituals. Doris Bergen mentions three factors that contributed to
this change. These were, interest in performance of liturgy, nature of warfare had changed and
ambition of the new monarchy which believed that both their activities were divinely sanctioned
and that the ruler bore personal responsibility for subjects minds and souls. The revival of liturgy
credited to the Carolingians and the application of a different kind of warfare in the middle east
by the warriors of the first crusade that resulted in great success, would later give birth to what
Doris calls A new kind of war, a crusade, and with it, the liturgical rites that

  • 2. Critiquing Qualitative Research Questions Incorporating the key concept of sourcing information on crime as a community member wasn t overly challenging. However, wording the questions and designing them so that there was no bias or favor towards one answer was difficult at first. Finding enough ways to develop questions whilst providing answers to the survey without fear of repetition to achieve a response for the research questions with quantitative data was a challenge. The levels of measurement of the variable that was used for this survey is ordinal. An ordinal scale has no natural origin and there is no real interval between ranks on the scale, the ordinal scale is used to represent preferences and judgements , ordinal scales commonly appear discreet instead of continuous (Basilevsky... Complementarity exercises the use of results from one method to elaborate or clarify results from another method whilst development using results from one method to develop and improve another (Greene, Caracelli and Graham 1989, 259). Through using these two methods it allows us to develop both the quantitative and qualitative results using the results of the other to elaborate and solidify the other resulting in better data across both styles of the data analysis. The survey would enable us to back up the trends found in the interview, ad the interview results would allow us to give insight into the reason behind the survey findings. Overall the results of both the qualitative interview and the quantitative survey would benefit the results of each other and provide a deeper insight into the trends set by different variables and allow for some explanation as to why these trends would ... • 4. The Importance Of Language In Education It was during the 1800s that a decision was taken which had ended up being the turning point for the language in education scenario in India and changed the orientation of language priority in Indian education. The decision was taken to ignore the vernacular medium education and concentrate entirely on English as the single language for instruction (Paranjpe Prasad, 2010)(Sridhar, 1989). It was made clear that those who had attained educationin English would be preferred over the vernacular educated class. English had become the language of higher education and with the establishment of the prestigious universities in the major cities like Bombay, Calcutta, Madras, Lahore, Allahabad and Punjab, English had achieved its supremacy (Sridhar, 1989) (Krishnaswamy Krishnaswamy, 2006). From this point onwards education came to be equated with English education and those who studied in vernacular medium were put permanently in the background (Sridhar, 1989), a mindset prevalent in the mind of Indians even today. Despite the changes which were made in the language policies in the 1900s to make space for vernacular languages in the educational setting did not meet with the expected success (Krishnaswamy Krishnaswamy, 2006) (Sridhar, 1989). By 1970s and 1980s about one third of the Indiahad its schools using English as their medium of instruction (Paranjpe Prasad, 2010). Hence the language in education policy during the colonial era had created two different media of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Timeless Truth of Madame Bovary Essay The Timeless Truth of Madame Bovary Written in 1857, Gustave Flaubert s Madame Bovary has become a literary classic. Emma Bovary is a middle class country girl with a taste for rich things; she marries a doctor and has a little girl. Her husband, Charles, adores her and thinks that she can do no wrong. He overlooks the sign of her adultery, telling himself that her unhappiness is caused from her poor health, and forgives her excessive spending. Madame Bovary s excessive desires seem to come from her excessive reading of novels in which life seemed, to her, perfect. She tried to find out what one meant exactly in life by the words felicity, passion, rapture, that had seemed to her so beautiful in books (45). Through Emma, ... Charles is very happy with his simple life, he thinks his wife is madly in love with him, and he makes enough money to supply for their needs. Yet Emma still, though comfortable and stable, longs for a grand life like she has read about in novels and the happiness that she thinks all rich people have. When her unhappiness becomes apparent to Charles, they move to the town of Yonville, thinking it will do Emma some good. There Madame Bovary meets a young man named Monsieur Leon Dupuis. She falls in love with Leon, but will not yield to him. This makes Emma hate Charles more due to the fact that she must be faithful to him. On him alone, then, she concentrated all the various hatreds that resulted from her boredom, and every effort to diminish only augmented it; for this useless trouble was added to the other reasons for despair, and contributed still more to the separation between them. . . . Domestic mediocrity drove her to lewd fancies, marriage tenderness to adulterous desires (142). Leon soon becomes tired of waiting for Emma and moves away. After Leon has left, Emma begins to read and spends large amounts of money on herself to quench her discontentment. She reasons that, A woman who had laid on herself such sacrifices could well allow herself certain whims (163). But the things that Emma ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Historical Argumentative Analysis I thoroughly enjoyed reading your historical argument this week, and because our posts were so similar, I thought you might be interested in hearing about how the government tried to streamline another expensive federal program. In 1981, in an attempt to cut the federal budget and streamline the free and reduced school lunch programs, the government proposed to pass proposed reduction in the milk portions and the cut from three fourths of a cup of two vegetables or fruits to half a cup. On that note, the Department of Agriculture Department attempted to allow ketchup, pickle relish, and jam to be counted as fruits and vegetable. Meijer is just like any other grocery store, similar to Wal Mart, yet higher quality products than Wal Mart. The clothing for both boys and girls sections are close together. I noticed that there are articles of clothing that are similar for boys and girls, but they are called different names to make them more masculine or feminine. For example, shirts for girls are called fashion tops and just shirts for boys. Other factors are how kids play with each other, their peers they are surrounded by, and the media. Males tend to be more physical when they play indicating that they are more aggressive than females are. Both males and females play different sports than females. An instance would be football, soccer, and wrestling, compared to cheerleading, gymnastics, and volleyball for the girls. Football, soccer, and wrestling are a more physical contact sport than cheerleading, gymnastics or volleyball are. Peers is also another part for socialization because the way boys or girls act around each other. Children follow by example, so if they see their friends doing something, they will most likely follow. As children get older, peers plays a bigger part in influencing children to act a certain way according to society and other peers. Lastly, the media is additionally has a huge impression on how kids should act and look. The commercials for children on T.V. convince children what they should be playing with, who they should be playing with, how they should look, and how they should act. It is very rare to see girls playing Legos or hot wheels in commercials. The same is for boys, commercials do not promote boys playing with and accessorizing with Barbie dolls. • 9. How My Group Members And I Worked Together This final paper will explain how my group members and I worked together. This ties into the final project for this class. My paper will show how I related to all the myths within a culture and tie them to the real world. Below I will explain how everything turned out and how we came up with out topic for the final project. I think as of now the level of engagement my partners have participated in is very low. We decided we wanted to focus on the Greek culture on April twenty fourth. I contacted them and asked how we wanted to split the work up or even start and I had no responses. Finally at nine on Saturday night one of my group members messaged a link to Google Documents, with only one slide started. I started working on the Google PowerPoint at eleven at night and woke up this morning to see nothing had been added. I went back on around eleven this morning and added new work. A little update to this situation it is now six, nothing has been added, but my work and I have had zero contact with my group. So I will say my group had little engagement in this project, one member did make the Google document, but nothing has been started. I think I learned a lot about my teamwork skills. I am such a perfectionist and like to get things done early. Working with a group makes it challenging, because people had different timeschedules. I think I learned that I am someone who engages with a project more often than my group, because I want to get my work done. My goal for this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

People are starting to ask the question that most people think about almost every day how is it made Statistics shows that more and more people are becoming vegan or vegetarian once realizing what is happing to the food that is being processed so poorly. Eating processed meator any other processed foodis not ethical. Because there are several animal cruelty and environmental disasters involving the process of the occurrence. One of the main reasons meat eating is not ethical is because of the way it affects others. The 4.8 pounds of grain fed to cattle to make one pound of beef represents a colossal waste of resources in a world teeming with hungry and malnourished people (Frank Doolittle). The food used to feed the cattle could easily be used for helping end world hunger. The amount of waste that is being created for each animal is substantial. Now Anne could have accepted his apology and they could have gone on being friends, but Anne saw no way to do that. The pain from his remark left her numb to knowing how to forgive him. The expressed struggle is expressed throughout the rest of the movie when Gilbert seeks to help Anne, or to be her friend. Another example of expressed struggle is when Anne took a dare to walk across the ridge pole of a roof. Almost halfway across the roof she fell and broke her ankle. Gilbert was the first one to help her up, and then offered her a ride home despite the expressed struggle. She acknowledged his help and thanked him for it, then neglected to allow him to help her. The struggle was recognized and could have been resolved much sooner if Anne has just let go ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Ethos In Letter From Birmingham Jail On April 16, 1963, Martin Luther King Jr. wrote an open letter to African Americans and all Americans who care about the civil right movement. In order to defend the strategy of nonviolent resistance to racism and respond to being called an outsider, King wrote his famous letter Letter from a Birmingham Jail. So why the King s letter is so powerful and convincing to the readers? Is it because of his identity of civil rights leader and his credibility(ethos)? Is it by the reason of the argument there are just laws and unjust laws (King) which he exerted numerous theoretical basis with utmost efforts(logos)? Or, It s due to his passionate writing style and the description of the image of the oppressed black people(pathos). Actually, It s all of them. These are the rhetorical method King used in his letter. At the beginning of the letter, King had already manifested his great ethos. He showed his sincere attitude to readers to better answer their questions, But since I feel that you are men of genuine good will and that your criticisms are sincerely set forth, I want to try to answer your statement in what I hope will be patient and reasonable terms (King), which enabled him to establish his trust in some demanding readers. Moreover, at the end of the letter, he wrote, I also hope that circumstances will soon make it possible for me to meet each of you, not as an integrationist or a civil rights leader but as a fellow clergyman and a Christian brother (King). The Mental and Emotional Effects of Life in the Secret Annexe Imagine dozens of families being seized from their house for no particular reason, or imagine a dirty and desolate campground with hardly any food and little to no chance of surviving. These are the horrors the the German Nazis brought to life in the 1930 s and 1940 s, where they persecuted Jews and forced them to work in labor camps or serve in concentration camps before being eventually killed off via gas chambers or being shot. Anne Frankand her family are just one of many to suffer at the hands of the Nazis, but her story is the most famous. Anne Frank and her family hid in a location known as the Secret Annexe when the Nazis came for them, a small area behind the business building of Anne s father s company. She and her family lived here in hiding with four other people in hiding for nearly two years before being discovered and being sent to concentration camps. During their stay in the annex, the living conditions of being in hiding created tension among the people there, which changed the eight originally kind and caring people into selfish and harsh individuals. The people of the Secret Annexe changed and warped emotionally and mentally in a negative way as shown by the seeming hostility in the conversations between the annex inhabitants, the selfish actions of the people in the annex, and the thoughts of the inhabitants who try to convince themselves that they will survive the war that show how ... The first Nintendo console to be offered in the United States was made available during a time when the video game market in the U.S. had just gone through a major decline. In the early 1980 s, American consumers typically associated video games with low quality products. The first Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) was launched in Japan in 1983 and in response to the United States negative feelings towards gaming, was released to U.S. consumers in 1985. In order to effectively penetrate the American gaming market place, it required a well thought out marketing plan that would differentiate Nintendo s product from the previous video games that had disappointed Americans so much. An efficient method for remembering things can be associations that are pictures or sounds that aid a person in remembering information. There also can be certain distractions that can hinder the amount of information that one can recollect. In a two way ANOVA, we tested the effect that associations and distractions can have on memoryrecall. We hypothesized that when an association was present, participants would be able to record more words than when there not any associations present. We also hypothesized that when a distractionwas present, participants would record less words than when distractions are not present. We used a between subjects design and with the use of a visual presentation to we tested college level students on their memory recall. According to the data collected, we accept the null hypothesisfor both of the hypothesis. Since none of the trials presented to the participants contained a significant difference, associations and distractions that were tested were not significant enough to be from a different population. • 17. What The Confucian Ideas And Practices Are Essay In this essay, to make it easier to understand when I begin to address the main problem presented by the question I will first give a brief outline of what the Confucian ideas and practices are. I will then do as the question asks and evaluate the critique, I will do this by going on to decide how valid I believe the critique to be and proposing some responses to it to see how the critique really holds up, before going on to discuss some alternative critiques and whether I see them to be more valid. So to begin some context, Confucius was born in 551 B.C.E. as far as the books say, to a class of society that despite being noble had fell upon hard times. (Yu lan, 1952, P.43) All thinkers during this time the warring states were looking back to an imagined golden age, when China was a unified empire, the people were at peace, and people knew and followed the Way or Dao. Most thinkers of this time looked to achieve this once again. (Yu lan, 1952, p.43) Confucius s main ideas and practices then. To Confucius the Dao or way, is considered to be nothing more or less than the way a person choices to live their life. (Cua, Ames, 2003, p.61) The root of Confucius ideas is the idea that there is no individual or self but that one is one s roles and relationships. For Confucius then the goal of life to achieve happiness for oneself and the people we believe to make up ourselves via roles and relationships. As more media outlets shed light on the topic, many people, especially those in the black community, suspected that the shooting was racially charged. Wilson stepped out of his car and shot at Brown resulting in Brown s infamous hands up, don t shoot surrender (Eromosele, 5 Eyewitness Accounts of Michael Brown s Shooting ). Johnson s report suggests that Wilson was not threatened by Mike Brown, and Michael tried to surrender to the officer. From the graph above, for instance, we could say that the budget deficit increased rapidly from 2007 2009 and we could say that the main is due to the Great Recession. The governments act trying to counter attack this effect by improving fiscal policy for the betterment of business cycle lead to more outlay than revenue, which resulted in the increase of the deficit promptly. So, therefore borrowing the money to deal with deficit lead to increase in the national debt. Crowding out occurs when spending by an individual or an organisation or to be more precise, private spending decreases and by increasing the government spending. People sometimes use this as an alternative replacement and lets the government to spend more. This is a very big problem causer because as the government decided to spend more, it leads to higher budget deficit and debt and the overall spending may decline rapidly. So, therefore if they let the government to spend more instead of them it results to the lesser consumption of resources and spending on it. This can lead to decreasing the interest rates which results in less investment by people and major drop in the business sector. First, we will discuss Please Please Me from the Beatlemania era. Please Please Me was released in January 1963 as a single and would go on to be the Beatles first number one hit. The lineup included John Lennon on lead vocals, rhythm guitar, and harmonica, Paul McCartney on harmony vocals, and bass, George Harrisonon harmony vocals, and lead guitar, and of course, Ringo Starr on drums. As with a lot of songs from the Beatlemania era, Please Please Me focuses on innocent boy girl love. It also has a very upbeat tempo that makes it sound like a pop song. Looking at the lyrics, it is about a boy talking to his girl, pleading her to please him like he does for her. Moving on to the music, the verses progress in E A E G A B E A E. Moving on to the chorus, we have A F#m C#m A E A B E, and the bridge with an A B E progression. A couple weeks ago, I read two speeches by the 16th president, who served two terms, and an American politician, who is the brother of John F. Kennedy. The first speech I read was delivered on April 4th in 1968 by Robert F. Kennedy. He spoke about the Assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. that occured in Memphis, Tennessee that same night. The second one was Abraham Lincolns Sencond Inaugural Address. Kennedy s speech occured after Martin Luther King s Assassination and Lincoln s happened after he was elected president for a second term. In Robert F. Kennedy s speech, he mentions race, hatred and the lack of compassion we have for one another. Although, in Abraham Lincoln s speech, he mentions the tragedy of the American Civil War, the distribution of slaves, and God. Robert F. Kennedy s speech was intended to bring the nation together as a whole instead of being sepearated by race. Also, Kennedy used this speech to mention that one of his family members were killed by a white man, in order to empathize with everyone who was affected by the news of Dr. King s assassination. His speech included: those of you who are black [...] filled with hatred and mistrust of the injustice of such an act, against all white people [...] feel in my own heart the same kind of feeling. (Kennedy, 1968) Robert F. Kennedy tried his hardest to unite people with this speech about the Assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. He wanted every American, whether they are black, white, hispanic or middle eastern, to acknowledge the lack of compassion, love and unity in our nation. Robert F. Kennedy started his speech by informing everyone that Martin Luther King Jr. was shot in Memphis, Tennessee on April 4, 1968. He continued talking about how Martin Luther King dedicated his life to love and justice between fellow human beings . Kennedy then asked everyone in the crowd what kind of nation they were and what direction they want to move in. In Robert F. The Rescuers And Aid For Jews During The Holocaust In studying the rescuers and aid to Jews during the Holocaust, there are few, if any, factors that prove to universally explain why people decided to help. These people defied most demographics; class, country, religion, and even included anti Semites, though economic and practical determinations were involved so much as one s ability to help is determined by economic /practical restraints. Even so, most, if not all, of these people did have the propensity for helping and service to other prior to helping Jews of the Holocaust. Nechama Tec and later Perry Lendon found this to be true, showing that in these people was an instinct to help, regardless of their feelings towards Jews. This characteristic coincided with independent, self reliant people who felt less attached to social demands and saw helping as a fact rather than heroic act. While these characterize individuals, the level at which specific countries were willing to help Jews did differ. Denmark and Bulgaria helped more than countries like Romania. In Denmark, there were a smaller amount of Jews and most were already assimilated into society before the Nazis came in. This allowed them to easily blend and hid within Denmark, and eventually Jews were helped to escape in 1943 as the Nazi encroached into Denmark. There are many resources a teacher can refer to in order to determine the visual and academic ability of a student with a visual impairment. It is always best to consult the primary source, the student, who often knows what their needs are. It is important to form a relationship with the student because they will feel more comfortable expressing those needs to their teacher. Another helpful source are parents and guardians, they live with their child, therefore know their strengths and weaknesses, as well as understand the child more. Parents might also be able to inform the teacher on what works best for their child. Teachers should also look over their student s individualized education program (IEP), which will have a lot of useful information. For example, the IEP will describe a child s strengths and weaknesses, academic goals, instructional and physical accommodations and/or modifications, and a list of additional services and/or assistive technology devices. Furthermore, traditional teachers can consult with a teacher for the visually impaired (TVI) who can suggest strategies that will help the student learn more effectively. The last resources, includes an orientation and mobility (O M) specialist, who helps visually impaired students navigate in the classroom and at school, such as on the playground and in the cafeteria. 2.Explain why ... Avoiding The Possessive Shadow Of Society Ethan Honorat Mr. Naserdine Literature Honors 5 January 2016 Avoiding the Possessive Shadow of Society Ralph Waldo Emerson once wrote, It is easy in the world to live after the world s opinion; it is easy in solitude to live after our own; but the great man is he who in the midst of the crowd keeps with perfect sweetness the independence of solitude. (Emerson 1) Being one s self in today s society is increasingly difficult every year and can have a major effect on the mental state of teenagers. It is easy to follow the pack, but then one is just a faceless person marching in with the crowd with no true purpose; true strength is in those who try to be themselves in the face of society. Many teens struggle with their identities and can turn to self harm or even suicide to relieve their pain, yet not enough effort goes into trying to help these struggling teens. In fact in a recent study done for Curing the illness: suicide prevention , professor John Wensly states that Suicide rates are increasing alarmingly. Every year we see a ten percent increase in suicide attempts alone. (Wensly 23) In his book Into the Wild, Jon Krakauer writes about Christopher McCandless, who did anything but live in society s large and possessive shadow. Chris broke free from society s chains and lived his life with adventure despite the numerous people telling him to stop. Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer focuses on Christopher McCandless and his mysterious decision to live on the road. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To demonstrate this, it must first be defined what is revolutionary art and how does it affect us? The history of art has gone through constant changes from movement to movement, with ideas being portrayed differently. Revolutionary art is something that people take notice the many years after being presented. It leaves a lasting impression no matter the genre or means to make it. Coming from a struggling family and friends that ignore her, Melinda has no one to tell. As her grades fall and her self esteem with it, she must choose to speak up against her rapist when he tries to take advantage of her again. In Laurie Halse Anderson s Speak, the uses of the author s life, the events that show the time period, and the philosophy of speaking up all contribute to why she wrote the novel. Laurie Halse Anderson faced many struggles as a young adult and shares her battles through the endeavors of the main characters in her books. From the beginning, Anderson wasn t the best student, spending much of her time daydreaming in the back row (Lew 11). Anderson started school as any other student. Good grades came easy and she was liked by her peers. Anderson also had a vivid imagination; she would imagine stories in her mind during random times of the day (Lew 11). Anderson also attended Onondaga Community College in Syracuse, New York for a two year associate s degree and then graduated from Georgetown with a bachelor s in language and linguistics (Lew 18). Back then men and women were usually assumed to have certain occupations. For example, in the 1950s women were supposed to become housewives and stay at home all day cleaning, cooking, or taking care of their children (Parry 1584). Men on the other hand, were suspected to go out and work all day doing whatever occupation they held. Due to the media uprising in the 19th century, women began to feel restrained on what they can accomplish. They began to care about their appearance more than anything else. This is one of the factors that created the gendergap, but society has always had the gap that has separated the two. • 40. School Boards And Legislative Bodies During the Great Depression, schools began to provide lunch programs for school students, since many homes could not afford to feed their children a full, well balanced meal (Hinman 16). Throughout the past eighty years the budgets, regulations, and policies have been changed multiple times. Whether or not these changes are helpful, are up for debate, and are topics many school boards and legislative bodies are forced to discuss. Some of the most controversial topics being discussed are the cost students pay, the quality of the food, the amount of food going to waste, and the obesity rate of students. The lunches that are served in schools are typically over priced, made of poor quality, thrown away, and is one of the leading causes to the increasing obesity rates. Two dollars and seventy five cents is the average price students pay unless they are receiving free or reduced lunches. The issue with these prices is that only a small fraction of students are paying the full amount while everyone else around them is getting cut a deal by the government. Majority of students get free or reduced lunches based on their families income and poverty level (Hinman 18). The federal government provides approximately $9.8 billion to the federal school lunchprogram to feed approximately 50 million students a lunch every day. In the Early stage, people have several small or few medium yellow deposits under the retina called drusen. This stage shows no symptoms or vision loss. During the second stage, Intermediate, more medium or even large deposits happen. As this happens, a blurred spot can develop and more light could be needed for reading. Lastly, in the Advanced stage, a breakdown of light sensitive cells and tissue causes the blurred spot to enlarge and darken. In this latter stage, facial recognition is unlikely unless the person is extremely close. Either form of Macular Degeneration can only be detected by thorough eye exams. The exam should include visual acuity, which measures sight at varied distance intervals. Also, dilation of the eyes will allow an ophthalmologist to check the retina and optic nerve. An instrument called a Tonometer will measure pressure within the eyes (National Eye Institute 6). Treatment options exist for the wet type; however, the dry has none. He did so in a way that shocks readers out of their ordinary idea of what a protagonist (specifically romantic) should be, because Pechorin is in fact, a superfluous man. A narratively complex show thus rejects the episodic convention of a return to the original status quo at the end of each episode, as one might see in an episode of Friends. Problems are often left unresolved to be expanded upon in future episodes. Narrative complexity is thus cumulative and unconventional: it is a combination of episodic closure and serial accumulation, and employs new and engaging narratives and forms of storytelling (Jackson). Of the many ways to achieve narrative complexity, Mittell discusses operational aesthetic, which can best be described as something similar to special effects. Operational aesthetic is augmented in certain moments within a narratively complex program. That being said, complex television employs something called the narrative special effect, which is when a program makes use of certain storytelling tools, to engage the viewer (Mittell 43). It is by way of the narrative special effect that the media makers attempt to foster engagement in audiences by planting clues, and this can be achieved through, for example, shifts in perspective or time, dreams or fantasy sequences, and the absence of clear storytelling cues. The result is that audiences focus and speculate on form and structure in addition to content (Jackson). This stems from the fact that although nuclear power holds vast amounts of potential, it currently has many problems. One of the main problems is figuring out what to do with the waste. The waste itself is too dangerous to dispose of in any conventional way, so presently, most of it is sealed in concrete casks and put into storage (in bunkers) until it stops being dangerous. This might not seem like a bad idea at first, but the problem with this idea is that the waste won t stop being dangerous for many, many years. There have to be better solutions to this problem. As it turns out, there are a few. The most promising in the short term is to recycle the nuclear waste, like any normal type of waste.
