The Epicureans By Their Writings Have Seized The Whole Of...

In the Tusculan Disputations, Cicero wrote The Epicureans by their writings have seized the
whole of Italy. Indeed, this often neglected or dismissed branch of philosophy played a great role
in the development of the culture of Rome through the late Republican period. It can prove
difficult to find examples of noteworthy Epicureans holding political office compared with their
polemic counterparts, the Stoics, largely because of the Epicurean teaching [one must] live
without being noticed. Still, there are a few who hold public office despite their Epicurean beliefs,
or perhaps more appropriately, continue to hold Epicurean beliefs despite the social expectation to
aspire to public office. From the writings and of Cicero and Lucretius, we can come to understand
the immense impact Epicureanism had on Roman culture.
The first chronicled Roman who was classically trained in Epicureanism is Titus Albucius, a
member of the upper class living around 100 B.C.E. who spent his youth studying philosophy and
oration in Athens. Albucius grew fond of Epicureanism and declared himself a devotee of the
school; however, after reaching adulthood, Albucius returned to Rome to follow the cursus
honorum, eventually ending up as praetor of a province. After being exiled, Albucius went back to
Athens and fully dedicated himself to Epicureanism by abandoning the political life entirely.
Indeed, a seemingly innocuous

Strategic planning plays a crucial role in the successful journey of the companies and it open new
roads of opportunities and success for the business organizations. The business organizations focus
mainly on secrecy of the strategies from all within or outside the organization for raising the level
of successful achievement of the goals of the company. Different companies choose different means

Estimating The Mixing Density Of A Mixture Distribution
Estimating the mixing density of a mixture distribution remains an interesting problem in the
statistics literature. Stochastic approximation (SA) provides a fast recursive way for numerically
maximizing a function under measurement error. Using suitably chosen weight/step size the
stochastic approximation algorithm converges to the true solution, which can be adapted to
estimate the components of the mixing distribution from a mixture, in the form of recursively
learning, predictive recursion method. The convergence depends on a martingale construction and
convergence of related series and heavily depends on the independence of the data. The general
algorithm may not hold if dependence is present. We have proposed a novel martingale
decomposition to address the case of dependent data.
5 Measurement error model: small area estimation
We proposed [4] a novel shrinkage type estimator and derived the optimum value of the shrinkage
pa rameter. The asymptotic value of the shrinkage coefficient depends on the Wasserstein metric
between standardized distribution of the observed variable and the variable of interest. In the
process, we also estab lished the necessary and sufficient conditions for a recent conjecture about
the shrinkage coefficient to hold. The biggest advantage of the proposed approach is that it is
completely distribution free. This makes the estimators extremely robust and I also showed that the
estimator continues to perform well with respect to the best

Mary Church Terrell Essay
Mary Church Terrell One of the leading black female activists of the 20th century, during her
life, Mary Church Terrell worked as a writer, lecturer and educator. She is remembered best for
her contribution to the struggle for the rights of women of African descent. Mary Terrell was
born in Memphis, Tennessee at the close of the Civil War. Her parents, former slaves who later
became millionaires, tried to shelter her from the harsh reality of racism. However, as her
awareness of the problem developed, she became an ardent supporter of civil rights. Her life was
one of privilege but the wealth of her family did not prevent her from experiencing segregation and
the humiliation of Jim Crow laws. While traveling on a train her family was... Show more content

1891, Oberlin College offered her the position of registrar of the school, including a faculty
position, but she declined because of her forthcoming marriage to Richard Terrell. Instead, she
took a teaching position at Wilberforce University in Ohio, and later at M Street High School in
Washington, D.C. During its centennial celebration in 1933, Oberlin recognized her as one of
its one hundred outstanding alumni, and awarded her an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters
in 1948. In 1876, Terrell founded and served as president of the National Association of Colored
Women (NACW), a self help organization designed specifically to uplift black womanhood.
Under Terrell s leadership, the NACW established kindergarten programs, day care centers, and
women s clubs. Members of the organization were afforded numerous opportunities to share
information about parenting, household management, and later social and economic concerns.
Terrell also campaigned to establish schools for domestic science, and the NACW worked
tirelessly to develop homes for girls, the aged, and the sick. In 1895, she became the first woman
of color in American to be appointed to the District of Columbia Board of Education. She resigned
in 1901, was reappointed in 1906, and held the post until 1911. In 1909, she and journalist Ida B.

VPN
Introduction:
VPN stands for Virtual Private Network. VPN is a data network connection that makes use of the
public telecommunication infrastructure but maintains privacy through the use of a tunneling
protocol and security procedures. It operates much like a Wide Area Network (WAN). Most
companies actually leased lines, but in either case both solutions are very expensive. As the
Internet became more widely available people started creating VPN solutions that took advantage
of the cheap network access. The idea was to use the Internet s existing links to create a virtual
circuit.
Advantages and Disadvantages of VPN:
Virtual Private Network presents some advantages over the traditional network technologies. VPN

Extranet: Extranet VPNs between a company and its strategic partners, customers and suppliers
require an open, standards based solution to ensure interoperability with the various solutions that
the business partners might implement. The accepted standard for Internet based VPN is the
Internet Protocol Security (IPSec) standard. Equally important is traffic control to eliminate
bottlenecks at network access points and guarantee swift delivery of and rapid response times for
critical data. (A)
VPN Protocols: One of the most popular protocols for VPN is PPTP, which stands for Point to
Point Tunneling Protocol. PPTP is actually an extension to PPP (Point to Point Protocol) which is a
standard for a traditional dial up networking. What PPTP does is packaging data within PPP
packets, and then encapsulates PPP packets within IP packets, that is called datagrams, so they can
be ready for transmission through an Internet based VPN tunnel. PPTP supports authentication,
encryption and packet filtering. The second popular protocol for VPN is IPSec, which stands for
Internet Protocol Security. One of IPSec features is that it includes an integrity check that ensures
that no packets are deleted, added or tampered with during transmission. The other feature is that
IPSec uses machine level certificates which authenticate

Hamlet Tragedy Analysis
Hamlet, despite being an introspective look at grief as well as a cautionary tale of the human
condition, is first and foremost a tragedy. The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, by William
Shakespeare, is a play written in the early 17th century that follows the Senecan formula: a
playwriting method originating in Rome which accentuates points of revenge, honor, the
supernatural, suicide, and blood. This formula is evident throughout the play but is fully realized in
the character of Hamlet. He is a tragic hero, bound to revenge, goaded by the ghost of his father,
who with each decision moves closer to his inevitable death. Hamlet has many observable traits.
He is intelligent, emotional, temperamental, and bold but his tragic flaw is that of overthinking.
Though Hamlet is driven by instinct to right the wrong done to his father, he does not act as
such. He carefully calculates all of his advances against his antagonists and spends a
considerable amount of time explaining to the audience what complications certain issues
present. O all you host of heaven! O earth! What else? And shall I couple hell? Oh, fie! Hold,
hold, my heart, And you, my sinews, grow not instant old, But bear me stiffly up. Remember
thee! Ay, thou poor ghost, whiles memory holds a seat In this distracted globe. Remember thee!
Yea, from the table of my memory I ll wipe away all trivial fond records, All saws of books, all
forms, all pressures past That youth and observation copied there, And thy commandment all
alone shall live Within the book and volume of my brain, Unmixed with baser matter. Yes, by
heaven! O most pernicious woman! O villain, villain, smiling, damnГЁd villain! My tables!
Meet it is I set it down That one may smile, and smile, and be a villain. At least I m sure it may be
so in Denmark. (writes) So, uncle, there you are. Now to my word. It is Adieu, adieu. Remember
me. I have sworn t. (I.v.94 1130) In Hamlet s long soliloquy he belabors the idea of fate and its
unfairness. After stewing over his villainous uncle and mother, he finally commits himself to
vengeance by the ghost s suggestion. This action in particular is the one that sets him on the path to
his death. Hamlet s tendency to overthink can most notably be

How Did Alexis De Tocqueville Influence Town Government
Alexis de Tocqueville s Influence
Alexis de Tocqueville s observation of the American prison system brought out several interesting
facts about America and how it governs itself. He talks of the danger of greed for money, the
importance of forming associations, and the power of influence in town government. Although
many of his observations have since changed, many of them bring about legitimate points about
American government and society.
In de Tocquevilles book Democracy in America, he is quoted as saying, ...I know of no other
country where love of money has such a grip on men s hearts or where stronger scorn is expressed
for the theory of permanent equality of property. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe we have been successful as a country in doing this. We have learned that we must rely on
one another in order to meet all of our needs to the best of our own abilities.
de Tocqueville also points out how powerful personal influence can be in town government.
Consider his quote, In towns it is impossible to prevent men from assembling, getting excited
together and forming sudden passionate resolves. Towns are like great meeting houses with all the
inhabitants as members. In them the people wield immense influence over their magistrates and
often carry their desires into execution without intermediaries. He is pointing out that local
government will almost always find ways to get around larger government because of the
immediate interest of residents. In reality, it is the people that run the government because they
have the ability to remove elected representatives if they aren t getting things done the way the
people want. The problem is, many people fail to realize this fact and just don t vote. The want to
blame the problems of the country on the elected officials although they are the ones that did, or in
some cases, did not, vote for the person who will make the voice of the people heard.
I think overall, de Tocqueville s view of America was right on key with many of my personal
views. I agree

Hp Is A Partner With Dreamworks
In addition, HP is a longterm partner with DreamWorks; the companies having partnered together
since about 2000. HP has a managed print services (MPS) contract, so that they are constantly
observing printing and paper usage, and thus processes and workflows, and can identify hot spots
where too much paper is being used and inefficiencies are thereby created. The two companies
meet weekly or biweekly for both sides to provide feedback and discuss concerns, and also meet
quarterly to strategize on larger projects that aim to create efficiency. Thus this workflowsolution
was simply a part of an ongoing process with cooperation between DreamWorks and HP, not a
situation where an outside vendor was sought.

There were 5000 documents that were taken off site to be scanned in and digitized. Also involved in
the project were Highland, who provided scanning software that allowed for organization of the
scanned content; a content management provider; and another third party scanning company, the
name of which the interviewee did not know.
As an alternative to this intensive use of paper documentation, HP scanners have been set up so that
documents can be scanned through a normal HP scanner into an accessible database. Employees of
both DreamWorks and product licensing partners now can view the same documents online at the
same time, creating a much higher level of efficiencies throughout, particularly noticeable at
meetings. During meetings, documents can now be worked on collaboratively, and agreements can
be linked to the pertinent imagery that will be involved with the product licensing.
During this workflow improvement process, there were some difficulties encouraging everyone
involved to change their processes and procedures. DreamWorks executives have come to realize
that, rather than having vague executive involvement, there needs to be clear executive sponsorship
of such changes, communicated from the beginning of such workflow projects, so that as the
projects move into the departments for employees to use the new processes, there is far less
resistance. For this purpose of reducing resistance to change, there needs to be an awareness that

The Service Concept, Servqual Model And Understanding...
For this report I will be looking into conduction a critique piece examining the ideas, theories and
techniques specifically looking into the purpose application and limitation or the service concept,
Servqual model and understanding customer types.
The Service Concept
Application
The service concept can simply be broken down into three different stages which is firstly the
organising idea this is basically when the service is used or bought by the consumer. The next
being the service provided, this is the process in which affects the way their service provider ends
up interacting with their customer base. Last but not least is the service received, now the service
received is the end result of the customers overall experience in particular the emotions that they
then feel towards this posing the question if they were satisfied with the service provide and lastly
was it good value for the money that they ended up paying for it. (Johnston Clark 2008)
A brilliant example of the service concept would be to look at Alton towers concept which is
very good, the organising idea is quite a basic concept which involves having a great day out at
the theme park with over 100 rides for families and amusement park goers and thrill seekers
leaving them with a vast array of options to choose from.
The service provided is free car parking, helpful staff, huge amount off customer toilets, Clean Park,
and generally well run amusement park. With that being said this is what the customer is

Lord Of The Flies Figurative Language Essay
No one said anything but the faces turned to Ralph were intent. He flourished the conch. He had
learnt as a practical business that fundamental statements like this had to be said at least twice,
before everyone understood them. One had to sit, attracting all eyes to the conch, and drop words
like heavy round stones among the little groups that crouched or squatted. He was searching his
mind for simple words so that even the littluns would understand what the assembly was about.
Later perhaps, practiced debaters Jack, Maurice, Piggy would use their whole art to twist the
meeting: but now at the beginning, the subject of the debate must be laid out clearly (Golding 60).

Ralph is very serious about his work and wants to create an organized civilization. However, the
littluns get confused and are not sure what Ralph is saying. This creates a setback for the group.
For instance, it is written above, One had to sit, attracting all eyes to the conch, and drop words
like heavy round stones among the little groups that crouched or squatted. This sentence signifies
that the littluns cannot understand what Ralph is saying and they are not interested in what Ralph
is saying. The use of Golding s simple diction and syntax also infers this tone. It creates the
feeling that the littluns are bored and uninterested in what Ralph is saying. The style choices of
this passage reflect the theme in the novel, power. Power is everywhere on the island and is shown
through different levels throughout the novel. Ralph is chosen as the leader of a democratic
system. Ralph uses his power as a way to create civilization and order in the society. However, the
littluns are bored and uninterested in Ralph for they want to have fun on the island, not to do work.
Throughout the novel, the littluns are apathetic. Consequently, they turn to Jack to be the leader so

Dickens Creation of a Picture of Nineteenth Century School in Nicholas Nickleby
This essay demonstrates how Charles Dickens, the author of the novel Nicholas Nickleby creates
an image of the 19th century school Dotheby s Hall School for Boys. Also I will be discussing the
conditions of the school, the description of the boys and the protagonists (Mr. Squeers, Smike and
Nicholas.) In the 19th century the rich students were treated pleasantly because they had the money
to pay the school however the poor students were treated harshly. Also, in the 19th century there
was no social service so the teachers could do as they wished to the students.

In addition here is another quotation an unhealthy looking boy with warts all over his hands. This
portrays that the children are not being given any medicine for any wounds. Dickens is trying to
make the reader create a picture that makes them feel repentant for the boys.
However, Dickens shows the character Mr. and Mrs. Squeers as the symbol of evil and violencein
this novel. Mr. Squeers has power in the beginning of the story but through the extent of the novel
he looses the power to Nicholas Nickleby and the children gain hope from Nicholas Nickleby. For
example administering a cut with the cane . This examines that Mr. Squeers has the power to do
what ever he wishes to the children. Mr. Squeers looses his power over the children at the end for
example beat the ruffian till he roared for mercy . This studies how Mr. Squeers is weakened by
one man. Nickleby also uses violence to gain power over Mr. Squeers Nickelby uses violence for
the right reason.
The character Nickleby is shown to be nice, mature and understanding. Nickleby stands up to Mr.
and Mrs. Squeers for example flung Squeers from him with all the

Rome in The Age of Augustus
30 BC ~ Octavian was given the title of Imperator, which was used in the Eastern provinces.
Imperium suggests unlimited imperium (or power) (Antiquity 2 Interpreting The Past) This was the
first of many titles that were to be given to Octavian after his defeat of Mark Antony in 31 BC at
the Battle of Actium. It indicates that the provinces thought Octavian was worthy of being
honoured, and that the power he possessed at the time should remain his. Therefore this was the
first factor that initiated the rise of Octavian.

(Antiquity 2 Interpreting The Past)The Senate s reaction to Octavian s transfer of power to
them was to beseech Octavian to reverse his decision. After an initial refusal, Octavian accepted
their offers, which left him in a much more powerful place than before. There were two main
elements to Octavian s new position; these were the office of Proconsul and Consul. Proconsul
was a position held for 10 years, and granted control over Spain, Gaul, Syria, Cilicia, Cyprus and
Egypt, as well has having the right to appoint legates, make war and conclude treaties. These
areas of the empire were in need of the most defence; therefore, the majority of the Roman army
was stationed there. Octavian s control over these regions now extended to the control of a large
section of the Roman army. A Consul was elected annually and had authority over Rome and Italy.
There were several provinces belonging to the Roman people, and Octavian used his position as
Consul to claim power over the proconsuls of such provinces. He also now had considerable
influence over the Senate and the assembly of Roman citizens. (Antiquity 2 Interpreting The Past)

The Waste Of Food Waste
Every day I sit at lunch and watch person after person throw away perfectly good food. Even I
am guilty of throwing away food I did not want or food I was too full to possibly eat. Someone
will take a container of yogurt or a sandwich out of their lunch bag, decide they don t want it, and
proceed to toss it into the black, wheeled trash cans. All that runs through my mind when I witness
and experience these wasteful habits is that people don t understand how much perfectly eatable
food faces the trash can every day. Food wastedoes not only occur in schools, food waste occurs in
multiple environments, such as restaurants, grocery stores, and every day households. Food
waste comes in all different forms as well, whether it is whole containers of salvageable snacks
or scraps of food capable of utilization as compost. People don t completely understand the ample
amounts of food wasted every day, every month, and every year. Because of this lack of awareness
and knowledge, the government should provide educational programs regarding food waste and
teach alternative disposal methods, such as composting or recycling, to the general public. The
government should also instill food waste prevention programs to make sure people aren t
throwing away perfectly good food because of reasons such as excess shopping or large meal
portions. Food waste tracks back all the way back to Ancient Troy, where people would often
throw food and other forms of waste on the floors of numerous public

STUDY OF GUJARAT S SOLAR POLICY
I.Introduction
The transition to a greener energy regime in India is driven by both external factors, like energy
prices, market developments, political culture and the emphasis on climate change, as well as by
internal factors like the goal to achieve long term energy security and the need for enhancing access
to energy. The early emphasis on renewable energyin India was primarily on the wake of energy
security concerns mooted during the global oil crisis around 1970s. Commission of Additional
Sources of Energy (CASE) in 1981 was set up by Government of India (GoI) as one of the early
response to such a crisis. CASE was transformed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is argued that policy reforms initiated during the past two decades have transformed India s
energy sector from a predominantly government owned system to a system largely driven by
market elements. This is also evident in the case of renewable energy where the Ministry of New
and Renewable Energy (MNRE) identifies the development of renewable energy in India across
various phases: 1970s as research phase, 1980s as demonstration phase and 1990s onwards as
commercialization phase with greater participation of private sector entities.
The renewable sources of power in India still constitute a small portion of the entire power
production of the country, with the total installed capacity of 32,000 MW (which is about 12%
of the total installed capacity). Out of the total installed capacity, solar energy constitutes about
10 % (3200 MW). The solar potential of the country is huge. It is estimated that about 12.5 % of
India s landmass, which is about 413,000 square kilometers, can be exploited to harness solar
energy. The country on an average enjoys 300 sunny days with an average hourly solar radiation
of about 200 MW/square kilometer. The major recent initiative in the solar space is the Jawaharlal
Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM) launched in 2010 by the Central

Irish Immigrants To America
The largest group ever to immigrate to the United States was the Irish. Today, there are over forty
three million people that are of Irish blood within the US. There were three different reasons that
brought Irish to America. The first was the early medieval Christian church. The second was the
fight of the Roman Catholic nobility. The third and final was the great potato famine, which was
the greatest mass emigration ever. The first and second reason the Irish immigrated was mostly
caused by conditions after 1717 that began to grow uneasy. The British encouraged the people of
Northern Ireland who were called Scotch Irish to create a Catholic Ireland. Irish could not live with
religious freedom. They were often challenged by the British

Voter Turnout And Voter Apathy
Voter turnout is commonly regarded as one of the most distinct issues within American politics of
the last century. Though the United States once averaged a turnout rate of 78% of eligible voters in
presidential elections between 1860 and 19001, the average voter turnout of the 21st century has
fallen to around 52%2. The cause of the marked decline throughout the 20th century is often
attributed simply to voter apathy, but the issue is much more complex. Upon analysis, it is clear
that a number of factors have contributed to the decreased rate of voter turnout, of which voter
apathy is perhaps the least influential. The decline in voter turnout in presidential electionsfrom the
19th to the 20th century is most likely a result of the instatement of the Australian ballot, the
structure of the American electionsystem, and an increased disillusionment with the government
over the last century. Until the late 19th century, voting was not entirely private in the United
States, which led to inflated voter turnout in presidential elections due to the corruption it
allowed. Initially, there were very few regulations imposed on voting. Ballots, for example,
could be printed in any size or color and often were printed so that one could tell to which party
it corresponded just by looking at it. A voter s name might be called out or recorded when he
placed a vote. Others could even view the ballot of another until it was officially cast3. This lack
of privacy in casting votes allowed

10 Things I Hate About You Stereotypes
Judging superficially will not reveal the truth The film 10 things I hate about you is a romantic
comedy released in 1999. It is starred by Julia Stiles and Heath Ledger. It s a very popular film
between teens. The film was made as an adaptation of the Taming of the Shrew by William
Shakespeare. However, the story portrays certain characteristics of a fairy tale known as King
Thrushbeard . The film utilizes fairy tale and cinematic elements to show that judging a person can
mislead the truth, by using complex characters that represent different stereotypes. The film has a
proud female characterwho judges everyone based on her personal past experiences. The main
character, Kat Stratford, is shown as a proud, arrogant, unsocial female who tries to live for her
own expectations. It is interesting because since the beginning of the film she shows no interest in

they could not stand seeing a free black man. Even with tom Robinsons wife Helen, she was left
to fend for herself when tom was murdered. The main problem with the American culture at the
time was racial segregation, and people not being able to get along. Even in the court house Tom

Candidates And Policy Of The United States Senate Elections
The names of the authors that wrote an article titled Candidates and Policy in the United States
Senate Elections are Gerald C. Wright and Michael B. Berkman. Although the previous literature on
the subject suggests, that policy is not a major factor in the decision making process, the article
argued otherwise.
It is a known fact that a substantial policy difference between the candidates in a particular race
exists. Policymakers write specific policies for the future and an election determines who will
write the policies, which decides the policy. The ideological characteristics of a state and a
candidate for a political office has a positive correlation. Conservative states or districts have
conservative candidates regardless of party affiliation. Meanwhile, liberal states or districts have
liberal candidates regardless of party affiliation.
Besides, the performance of the economy and of the president, assuming that the president and the
candidate share the same party, affects the chances of the candidates. This is evident in almost all
midterm elections in the modern era. If a president (Democratic President Obama) has perceived as
not doing a good job and has a low approval rating (the mid 40s throughout much of his presidency),
then congressional candidates in the midterm elections are not in their best position. Accordingly,
Democrats lost the House of Representatives and some seats in the United States Senate in the 2010
midterm election. The Democratic Party lost the

Essay Justifying the War the in Iraq
Justifying the War the in Iraq Early last year, the latest Gulf War broke out, and, within weeks,
British and American leaders claimed that peace would prevail: that the fighting had ended.
More than six months after the end of the war , soldiers, and Iraqis, are still dying. What went
wrong? Was Bush lying all along, or did he just make a mistake? I think that the answer to this
question is obvious: Bush and Blair, or Bliar , as anti war campaigners call him, have lying to us
all along. Before the war, the UN vetoed the war, until such time as there was any proof that
Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction. Bush and Blair, however, decided to ignore the

One of Bush s main excuses for the war was that Saddam and broken too many laws. However, it
is quite obvious that he was just being greedy, and was doing for the money. Also, the State of
Israel has broken just as many UN laws. Has America waged war against them, in support of
Palestine? No. In fact, quite the opposite! Britain and America have been freely selling arms to
Israel, knowing that they would be used against Palestinians. (Therefore, we in Britain should,
no, must boycott Israeli and American goods (Israeli goods have a bar code beginning with
0810).) What has been gained by this war? The answer is nothing. At least, nothing positive: At
least twenty thousand Iraqi civilians have been injured, and the Iraqi death toll is estimated to be
between eight and ten thousand! The UN s word about permission for a legal war now counts for
nothing: having ignored it once, why will Britain and America bother obeying it in the future?
And this war has cost billions of dollars. Only a week and a half ago George Bush put forward
another six billion dollars! And that is English billions, not American, so that is
$6,000,000,000,000! And then, having lied to us, and gone against what, we, the population
wanted, Blair invited over his play mate to Britain. But, of

Brutus Funeral Speech Analysis
According to picturequotes.com, Words are powerful. They can create or they can destroy. So
choose your words wisely. In Julius Caesar, by William Shakespeare, conspirators slay Julius
Caesar, resulting in anarchy in Rome. Some agree with the death, while others oppose the sudden
and violent death of Caesar. Unlike Antony, Brutus uses emotion rather than fact to sway the
Roman people that Caesars death is justified. Although Brutus puts rules in place so he can not talk
disrespectfully of the conspiracy, Antony, Caesar s closest friend, uses his slyness and manipulation
in his funeral speech to persuade the Romans. Although both characters use analogies, parallelism,
loaded words and hyperboles, their speeches convey very different... Show more content on

By making the Romans think about this topic, Brutus gains support and the audience feels like
the death of Caesar is justified. After Brutus finishes his speech, Antony speaks about his
opinion on the issue; unlike Brutus, Antony acts slyly and communicates a very manipulative
tone to persuade the Romans to rebel. Because of Antony s use of parallelism, he creates vivid
reasoning for his speech. He states, I come here to bury Caesar, not to praise him (III.ii.44). By
using this device, he shows the people of Rome that he isn t praising Caesar, he is putting the
leader to rest. This particular line creates a very manipulative tone, because his speech is all
about what great this Caesar has done and how he wants to rebel against the conspirators. Further
more, Antony uses a lot of irony to slyly get his point across. One example that he uses throughout
the speech is Yet Brutus says he was ambitious, and Brutus is a honorable man (III.ii.44). Because
of the repitition of this ironic statement, the meaning of it changes and intensifies. At first, his tone
was sincere, but as the speech progresses, you can see his sarcastic tone increases. Antony does
this because he has to use this device to surpass the regulations of Brutus, as well as make the
romans listen. Lastly, he uses personification to give life and further meaning to a word. Early in
the speech, Antony says, The evil

Impact of Women Influence in Macbeth
William Shakespeare s play, Macbeth is one of his most well known plays because of its
infamously unconventional gender roles. These roles cause tremendous chaos proving Shakespeare
s true motive to keep men and women in their place. Women are an important part of the play
because Shakespeare displays them as a huge influence on Macbeth s courage and decisions that
will eventually impact his actions and lead him to tremendous chaos. This change of gender roles is
displayed through the three witches, Lady Macbeth, and how the role disruption had a negative

However, when Lady Macbeth finds him refusing to continue with the plan, she starts teasing him
about his cowardly attitude, Art thou afeard to be the same in thine own act and valor as thou art in

his thoughts and continue with the plan. Lady Macbeth shows her authority in the relation, she
challenges Macbeth s manliness by corrupting and encouraging him to murder. She shows a very
ambitious, aggressive, influential, and authoritative attitude. The Elizabethan society depicts

Causes Of Multiple Sclerosis
Affecting women more than men, Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is normally diagnosed between the
ages 20 and 40, but can be seen during any age.; which is the most common disabling
neurological disease of young adults. It s caused by the myelin sheath, which is the protective
covering which surrounds the nerve cells, by being damaged. Nerve signals start slowing down or
they stop when this nerve covering is damaged, which is caused by inflammation. It can affect any
area of the brain, spinal cord, and optic nerve. The causes for Multiple Sclerosisare still unknown,
however the common thought on it is that it s a virus or gene defect, and environmental facts
could also play a role in it. With MS, it causes the sheath to be stripped away, which is a process
called demyelination. Severe or mild disabilities can occur depending on the nerves that were
affected. If the myelin in the sensory nerves is lost, a person may have impaired sense of touch....

Chromatic aberration is cause by the dispersion of a lens and the different colours of light
travelling at different speeds. This causes the image of an object to appear with coloured edges or
to be blurred (photographylife.com). Resolution is the most important variable in producing a
quality, detailed image. The formula for resolution in a microscope is: R=О»/2NA where О» is the
wavelength of light and NA is the numerical aperture of the objective lens. A higher value
equated for R will give a poor resolution, whereas a lower value will form a more detailed
resolution. A higher NA will produce a superior resolution because R will be reduced. Also, the
smaller the wavelength, the lesser R will be, generating more detailed resolution. Because of this,
the wavelength of blue/violet light is significantly smaller and will produce a very highly detailed
resolution. From this, it can be understood that methods of illumination have significantly
developed since the first compound microscope and shorter wavelengths of light produce much
more superior quality images and are ideal for use in microscopes. (vetmed.vt.edu).

The first microscope used glass lenses. In comparison, compound microscopes of today use
special lenses of optical glass. These lenses are made of silicone dioxide, a quartz crystal and the
most common mineral found. Quartz is used for its various

The Theory Of The Human Development
Part 1: Of the four major psychological theories (ecological, behavioral, humanistic,
psychoanalytic), which one(s) is/are most closely aligned with your personal belief system? All
four major Psychological theories are very significant, but based on my reading about all of them,
I can convey that the ecological theory is the most closely aligned with my personal belief system.
Part 2:
Why?
I chose this theory because it states that a person s development is influenced by everything in the
surrounding environment, such as: family values, home, peers, school, and neighborhood, among
others biological factors that play the dynamic roles in the human development. I will try to
explain it in a more simply way....and to be honest, I don t truly like the way the books describes it.
It was formulated by the renowned psychologist Urie Bronfenbrenner. The ecological systems
theory embraces that we encounter diverse environments throughout our lifespan that may influence
our behavior in varying points. These systems consist of different aspects or levels of the
environment: the microsystem, the mesosystem, the exosystem and the macrosystem.
The microsystem s setting is the direct surroundings, we have in our lives and it is the small, close
environment a child subsists in. The ecological theory alleged that everything around a specific
student cause influence in his behavior. As a teacher, we have little or no control over all the
systems mentioned in this theory. However, we can

building started in 1931, it is clear that there was a huge push to make this structure even

going through a cycle of floods and droughts, this would make for very harsh growing
conditions. Engineers felt that it was possible to block the Colorado River, which would allow
for regulation of the water and also hydroelectric power. This massive project would not have
been possible without the financing of a very large company. During the middle of the depression,
it was extremely hard to find a company who was willing to front the money to start the project.
One was found and for close to forty nine million dollars, the dam was financed by six different
smaller construction companies.
The first thing that needed to be constructed was roads that lead up to the dam site. Hoover dam isn

site. This cofferdam allowed for the diversion of water through large pipes to down below

interracial, homosexual and heterosexual families who all come together at the end of the day
because of their love for one another despite their differences. Although the families are quite
contrary views on various topics, the show successfully intertwines their lives allowing viewers to
obtain a new perspective of familylife from the show character s point of view. In Jennifer
Posner s excerpt, Ghetto Bitches, China Dolls and Cha Cha Divas, Posner explores how the media
in particular the reality TV show, America s Next Top Model, perpetuates stereotypes that are
dangerous to well being of society. However, Posner s reasoning fails to take into account the

states, Yet such a statement could have been used as a teaching moment, to raise awareness of the
historic dehumanization of Black women as exotic, primal animals (403). Likewise, just as
Kelle served as a teaching moment, Cam and Mitch also serve as a teaching moment , however in
a positive manner by educating the public about homosexual couples parenting. People have the

In addition to combating the stereotypical idea of a family, Modern Family also explores today s

My Long Term Educational And Professional Goals
When beginning the psychology major, I was unsure of what my long term educational and
professional goals were. Now that I am in my senior year, I am still not positive about my path
overall path. However, I do have a plan that I feel will work perfect for me. I am reaching a time in
my life where I will be financial stable, be married, have a partner to share responsibilities, and have
the knowledge to be the best parent possible. I think it is important for one parent to be home
before the children enter preschool. Once the children are entered in school, I feel it would be a
good time for me to either go back to school or choose a career I can achieve with my bachelor s
degree. If I were to go back to school, it would most likely be to obtain a master s degree for
counseling. I am very interested in Central Washington University s Master Degree in Applied
Behavior Analysis. In ten years, if I complete my masters, I see myself working with families,
children or adolescents. This might be either in an office setting or school setting. I know that I
would not want to go to the client s home as the primary setting.
There are several ways in which the courses I have taken at Central Washington University have
influenced personal growth for my educational goals. First, taking PSY 300 research methods, PSY
362 introductory statistics and participating in directed research has contributed immensely to my
personal growth. Writing a research proposal in PSY 300 was very

Main Ideas and Themes of Beowulf Essay
Beowulf and Sir Gawain have many things in common. We will be discussing them later on, but
their main similarity is that they re both heroes. A hero is a person who must pass through a test
and a battle (mental, spiritual or physical) to help someone else. He must be selfless, and act for
others rather than himself. All societies have supported heroes, like the ancient Greek s Hercules
and the modern day Spiderman. These are hero stereotypes, with supernatural powers. Heroes don t
have to be stereotypes, but can be firemen, policemen or soldiers. Two famous heroes in ancient
literature are Beowulfand Sir Gawain.
Beowulf is about a guard who must destroy a destructive monster who has ... Show more content on

Beowulf s test is to defeat the evil creature Grendel, protecting his hall and soldiers. Sir Gawain s
test is to resist temptation to steal a magic belt, and steal the master s wife! Even though both
tests are different, Beowulf s test and Gawain s test both test courage. The courage to take on a
monster and the courage to resist stealing and keeping you re word! In the end, both succeeded,
Grendel was killed, and sir Gawain received his blow, and stayed alive, but both had
consequences. Beowulf s friends got killed, and later on Grendel s mother attacks him, and sir
Gawain had been given a cut to his neck, and lost his honor.
The test the heroes have to face, is often put up by a villain, and both have their fair share of
villains. In Beowulf the enemy is a dark monster, which eats human and has super strength, enough
to bend iron. In Sir Gawain, the apparent villain is the green knight, who challenges sir Gawain to
a grueling beheading contest . After it s head falls off, he is not harmed, so he has some weird
magical qualities. Both have supernatural powers and striking appearances, but the difference is
that in sir Gawain and the green knight, the green knight is just the master of the kingdom in
disguise, testing the nobility of King Arthur s knights, and not a mortal enemy.
The main difference in the two poems is the

proclaiming his innocence, and the DeKalb county residence is sad about Ellis indictment.
More so this indictment does bring about a terrible look on DeKalb County. One of DeKalb

Comparative Essay Compare And Contrast Lord Of The Rings
For this comparative essay I decided to take on the task of a very famous book trilogy that came
out in the 1950 s, Lord of the rings. Due to the fact that this novel is very lengthy in lore and
story I will give the assumption that you are familiar with the story and world. As I watched the
movies and read the books of Lord of the rings, I have noticed many things that were changed and
deleted from the original story. most changes that were made ranged from small to large. Out of
all of these changes I have seen one that stuck out the most and that is the personality of the
hobbits and other characters. In the books the hobbits are portrayed as very level headed and very
mindful, but as many people know in the movies they are very rambunctious... Show more content

this would make the story itself very different depending how you chose to learn the it, either by
book or film. in the movie all of the books are intertwined into one coherent story that follows all
the characters at one time. In the book trilogy each story is following its own set of characters
meaning there is a lot of suspense build up since there are many characters that you don t know the
whereabouts of for quite sometime. this change to the story timeline was most likely made to make
the movie series more interesting as it follows all the characters at once keeping the audience s
attention. Though many changes were made between the book and the movie ( even though that is
expected of most movie adaptations of books) I personally enjoyed both renditions of the story. I
would recommend to others that they read Lord of the rings and then watch the movie because it
gives an interesting twist in the way they intertwine the stories together. all in all I found this
assignment and the assessment I did very educational on the way people transfer stories to different

Identifying My Area Of Student Growth Since Undertaking...
My essay will outline the journey of identifying my area of student growth since undertaking this
Bachelor of Dementia Care degree and introductory units. Academic achievements, typically are
based on examination or assessment marks. As Cottrell (2013, pp. 12 13) shows, a quiz can
identify and evaluate a measurement of achievement particularly of a new student. I will endeavour
to show, with the use of differing methods or tools of measurement, they act as a catalyst to
improve or impede my academic development. Additionally, I will discuss examples and explain
how I can apply the outcomes of my development.
It has been thirty years since I completed by Higher School Certificate, receiving a mark
measuring my ability to recall prior years of secondary study. So, as I commence university to attain
my degree, how will I manage study, work and family commitments? Do I have the skills to
undertake this so late in my life? (Vivekananda Shores, 1996, p.10). Overwhelmed and anxious
about what I had committed myself to, the initial exhilaration of enrolling as a university student
was replaced with anxiety. Scanning through discussion boards provided affirmation of the
anxieties I experienced. The Feedback I received from one participant responded I feel that self
doubt too (M. Bancroft, personal communication, March 3, 2016) (Appendix A) this alerted me to
an opportunity to abate my anxiety, but also provided me with a tool to test my strategies and ideas.

The Unemployment Problem In The United States
America, the country called home. Known as one of the most powerful and advanced countries in
the world. Is full of many major problems. That could be destroying the economy and the people
that live here. With people resorting to being on the streets selling and doing drugs causes a big
problem. Not only drugs and the economybeing a problem, but also people getting things that they

heading for the worse. One of the biggest problems with America today is the economy. With

Those are both ways for someone to receive disability legitimately. Then you have those people

They have been capable of working all these years and then decide to file for disability so they

A Flat Tax Is A Tax
A flat tax is a tax that is applied at a consistent rate with no variables in its application. In contrast
with progressive or regressive taxes, where the rate levied varies by income or according to other
parameters, a flat tax means that everyone pays the same percentage. Flat taxes can be levied as
sales or excise taxes, but the term is referred to the proposal of a single rate for all taxes on
personal income ( History and Debate of Flat Tax). The proposal for a flat tax has been brought
forward for debate on several occasions over the past few decades. At times, it is brought forward
in the form of a flat tax on consumption, in a modified form on income taxallowing for some
adjustments or deductions, and as a true flat tax on income with absolutely no exceptions. The
proposal of a flat tax seems fair to a majority of the American people, however, it does not sound
fair to everyone. Would implementing a flat tax really offer more income equality amongst
American taxpayers? First and foremost, there are always pros and cons of every issue. The same
applies to flat taxes, however, there are more drawbacks to the implementation of a flat tax system
than there are benefits. In reality, a flat tax system does not offer income equality amongst
taxpayers. If the United States switches to a flat tax system, it would greatly exacerbate
longstanding growth in income inequality (Frank 1). A flat tax would increase inequality by
substantially reducing rates on wealthy

Tax Credits Are Better Than Deductions
Tax Credits Tax credits are better than deductions because they reduce your taxes dollar for
dollar. For example, federal and state governments offer many credits for research and
development, reducing energy usage, creating jobs and accommodating people with disabilities.
We ll explore the topic further in the Special Business Deductions. In bad years, especially when
you start a business and claim extra deductions, you might lower your taxes enough to qualify for
the Earned Income Tax Credit that lowers taxes for low to moderate income families. The
Lifetime Learning Credit is worth 20% of up to $10,000 that you spend for post secondary
education and training. The credit can take up to $2,000 off your taxes for fees spent on college
courses, training classes and earning certifications. The American Opportunity Tax Credit returns
the first $2,000 that you spend on college expenses for each dependent and 25% of the next $2,000
for a maximum credit of $2,500 per student. Special Business Deductions The federal government
and many state governments offer various tax credits, incentives and larger Section 179 deductions
for increasing energy efficiency, accommodating people with disabilities, removing architectural
and transportation barriers to mobility challenged people and encouraging entrepreneurs to
revitalize certain enterprise zones in some urban cities and areas where natural disasters have
occurred. Disability Accommodations You can qualify for tax benefits [4]

Muscle Contraction System
Intro: The heart has a clear function, which is to constantly pump blood through the body into
every organ that consists of cells. Blood is transported through the body with veins and arteries that
are set up through the body, one having oxygenated blood flowing into the body while the other is
poor on oxygen heading into the lungs for gas exchanges. These pumps the hearts emulates are
caused by electrical stimulation, which produce muscle contraction.
The cardiac cycle has a regular pattern that is determined by electrical activity. It all starts at (SA)
node which is located in the right and left atrium, the also know as the natural peacemaker, where
electrical signals originate. Next, the (AV) node or the Atrioventicular node located on the opposite
side of the (SA) node near the AV valves. The (AV) node serves as a bridge between the atrium and
the ventricle, delaying the electrical impulses to ensure that the atria have completely pump the
blood before the ventricle contraction. Electric signal from the That started from the (SA) node
soon reach the Atrioventicular bundle or referred to as the (AV) bundle which is divided into the
right and the left bundle branches created a path of impulses to the apex, then spreading throughout
the myocardium soon after passing through the purkinje fibers. While the heart goes through this
process a certain machine called ECG recording apparatus records the waves PQRST, which is the
pattern of the cardiac cycle. In the PQRST P represents the contraction of the atria and its usually
the beginning of the cardiac cycle. QRS illustrates the contraction of both ventricles and also shows
the completion of the cardiac depolarization. Finally the T wave represents the relaxation of the
ventricles and it s the end of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

  • 2. The Epicureans By Their Writings Have Seized The Whole Of... Mitchol Dunham Master Katy Chenoweth Classical Humanities 2200 30 July 2015 In the Tusculan Disputations, Cicero wrote The Epicureans by their writings have seized the whole of Italy. Indeed, this often neglected or dismissed branch of philosophy played a great role in the development of the culture of Rome through the late Republican period. It can prove difficult to find examples of noteworthy Epicureans holding political office compared with their polemic counterparts, the Stoics, largely because of the Epicurean teaching [one must] live without being noticed. Still, there are a few who hold public office despite their Epicurean beliefs, or perhaps more appropriately, continue to hold Epicurean beliefs despite the social expectation to aspire to public office. From the writings and of Cicero and Lucretius, we can come to understand the immense impact Epicureanism had on Roman culture. The first chronicled Roman who was classically trained in Epicureanism is Titus Albucius, a member of the upper class living around 100 B.C.E. who spent his youth studying philosophy and oration in Athens. Albucius grew fond of Epicureanism and declared himself a devotee of the school; however, after reaching adulthood, Albucius returned to Rome to follow the cursus honorum, eventually ending up as praetor of a province. After being exiled, Albucius went back to Athens and fully dedicated himself to Epicureanism by abandoning the political life entirely. Indeed, a seemingly innocuous ... • 4. Estimating The Mixing Density Of A Mixture Distribution Estimating the mixing density of a mixture distribution remains an interesting problem in the statistics literature. Stochastic approximation (SA) provides a fast recursive way for numerically maximizing a function under measurement error. Using suitably chosen weight/step size the stochastic approximation algorithm converges to the true solution, which can be adapted to estimate the components of the mixing distribution from a mixture, in the form of recursively learning, predictive recursion method. The convergence depends on a martingale construction and convergence of related series and heavily depends on the independence of the data. The general algorithm may not hold if dependence is present. We have proposed a novel martingale decomposition to address the case of dependent data. 5 Measurement error model: small area estimation We proposed [4] a novel shrinkage type estimator and derived the optimum value of the shrinkage pa rameter. The asymptotic value of the shrinkage coefficient depends on the Wasserstein metric between standardized distribution of the observed variable and the variable of interest. In the process, we also estab lished the necessary and sufficient conditions for a recent conjecture about the shrinkage coefficient to hold. The biggest advantage of the proposed approach is that it is completely distribution free. This makes the estimators extremely robust and I also showed that the estimator continues to perform well with respect to the best ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Mary Church Terrell Essay Mary Church Terrell One of the leading black female activists of the 20th century, during her life, Mary Church Terrell worked as a writer, lecturer and educator. She is remembered best for her contribution to the struggle for the rights of women of African descent. Mary Terrell was born in Memphis, Tennessee at the close of the Civil War. Her parents, former slaves who later became millionaires, tried to shelter her from the harsh reality of racism. However, as her awareness of the problem developed, she became an ardent supporter of civil rights. Her life was one of privilege but the wealth of her family did not prevent her from experiencing segregation and the humiliation of Jim Crow laws. While traveling on a train her family was... In 1891, Oberlin College offered her the position of registrar of the school, including a faculty position, but she declined because of her forthcoming marriage to Richard Terrell. Instead, she took a teaching position at Wilberforce University in Ohio, and later at M Street High School in Washington, D.C. During its centennial celebration in 1933, Oberlin recognized her as one of its one hundred outstanding alumni, and awarded her an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters in 1948. In 1876, Terrell founded and served as president of the National Association of Colored Women (NACW), a self help organization designed specifically to uplift black womanhood. Under Terrell s leadership, the NACW established kindergarten programs, day care centers, and women s clubs. Members of the organization were afforded numerous opportunities to share information about parenting, household management, and later social and economic concerns. Terrell also campaigned to establish schools for domestic science, and the NACW worked tirelessly to develop homes for girls, the aged, and the sick. In 1895, she became the first woman of color in American to be appointed to the District of Columbia Board of Education. She resigned in 1901, was reappointed in 1906, and held the post until 1911. VPN is a data network connection that makes use of the public telecommunication infrastructure but maintains privacy through the use of a tunneling protocol and security procedures. It operates much like a Wide Area Network (WAN). Most companies actually leased lines, but in either case both solutions are very expensive. As the Internet became more widely available people started creating VPN solutions that took advantage of the cheap network access. The idea was to use the Internet s existing links to create a virtual circuit. Advantages and Disadvantages of VPN: Virtual Private Network presents some advantages over the traditional network technologies. VPN ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Extranet: Extranet VPNs between a company and its strategic partners, customers and suppliers require an open, standards based solution to ensure interoperability with the various solutions that the business partners might implement. The accepted standard for Internet based VPN is the Internet Protocol Security (IPSec) standard. Equally important is traffic control to eliminate bottlenecks at network access points and guarantee swift delivery of and rapid response times for critical data. (A) VPN Protocols: One of the most popular protocols for VPN is PPTP, which stands for Point to Point Tunneling Protocol. PPTP is actually an extension to PPP (Point to Point Protocol) which is a standard for a traditional dial up networking. What PPTP does is packaging data within PPP packets, and then encapsulates PPP packets within IP packets, that is called datagrams, so they can be ready for transmission through an Internet based VPN tunnel. PPTP supports authentication, encryption and packet filtering. The second popular protocol for VPN is IPSec, which stands for Internet Protocol Security. One of IPSec features is that it includes an integrity check that ensures that no packets are deleted, added or tampered with during transmission. The other feature is that IPSec uses machine level certificates which authenticate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Hamlet Tragedy Analysis Hamlet, despite being an introspective look at grief as well as a cautionary tale of the human condition, is first and foremost a tragedy. The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, by William Shakespeare, is a play written in the early 17th century that follows the Senecan formula: a playwriting method originating in Rome which accentuates points of revenge, honor, the supernatural, suicide, and blood. This formula is evident throughout the play but is fully realized in the character of Hamlet. He is a tragic hero, bound to revenge, goaded by the ghost of his father, who with each decision moves closer to his inevitable death. Hamlet has many observable traits. He is intelligent, emotional, temperamental, and bold but his tragic flaw is that of overthinking. Though Hamlet is driven by instinct to right the wrong done to his father, he does not act as such. He carefully calculates all of his advances against his antagonists and spends a considerable amount of time explaining to the audience what complications certain issues present. O all you host of heaven! O earth! What else? And shall I couple hell? Oh, fie! Hold, hold, my heart, And you, my sinews, grow not instant old, But bear me stiffly up. Remember thee! Ay, thou poor ghost, whiles memory holds a seat In this distracted globe. Remember thee! Yea, from the table of my memory I ll wipe away all trivial fond records, All saws of books, all forms, all pressures past That youth and observation copied there, And thy commandment all alone shall live Within the book and volume of my brain, Unmixed with baser matter. Yes, by heaven! O most pernicious woman! O villain, villain, smiling, damnГЁd villain! My tables! Meet it is I set it down That one may smile, and smile, and be a villain. At least I m sure it may be so in Denmark. (writes) So, uncle, there you are. Now to my word. It is Adieu, adieu. Remember me. I have sworn t. (I.v.94 1130) In Hamlet s long soliloquy he belabors the idea of fate and its unfairness. After stewing over his villainous uncle and mother, he finally commits himself to vengeance by the ghost s suggestion. This action in particular is the one that sets him on the path to his death. How Did Alexis De Tocqueville Influence Town Government Alexis de Tocqueville s Influence Alexis de Tocqueville s observation of the American prison system brought out several interesting facts about America and how it governs itself. He talks of the danger of greed for money, the importance of forming associations, and the power of influence in town government. Although many of his observations have since changed, many of them bring about legitimate points about American government and society. We have learned that we must rely on one another in order to meet all of our needs to the best of our own abilities. de Tocqueville also points out how powerful personal influence can be in town government. Consider his quote, In towns it is impossible to prevent men from assembling, getting excited together and forming sudden passionate resolves. Towns are like great meeting houses with all the inhabitants as members. In them the people wield immense influence over their magistrates and often carry their desires into execution without intermediaries. He is pointing out that local government will almost always find ways to get around larger government because of the immediate interest of residents. In reality, it is the people that run the government because they have the ability to remove elected representatives if they aren t getting things done the way the people want. The problem is, many people fail to realize this fact and just don t vote. The want to blame the problems of the country on the elected officials although they are the ones that did, or in some cases, did not, vote for the person who will make the voice of the people heard. HP has a managed print services (MPS) contract, so that they are constantly observing printing and paper usage, and thus processes and workflows, and can identify hot spots where too much paper is being used and inefficiencies are thereby created. The two companies meet weekly or biweekly for both sides to provide feedback and discuss concerns, and also meet quarterly to strategize on larger projects that aim to create efficiency. Also involved in the project were Highland, who provided scanning software that allowed for organization of the scanned content; a content management provider; and another third party scanning company, the name of which the interviewee did not know. As an alternative to this intensive use of paper documentation, HP scanners have been set up so that documents can be scanned through a normal HP scanner into an accessible database. Employees of both DreamWorks and product licensing partners now can view the same documents online at the same time, creating a much higher level of efficiencies throughout, particularly noticeable at meetings. During meetings, documents can now be worked on collaboratively, and agreements can be linked to the pertinent imagery that will be involved with the product licensing. During this workflow improvement process, there were some difficulties encouraging everyone involved to change their processes and procedures. DreamWorks executives have come to realize that, rather than having vague executive involvement, there needs to be clear executive sponsorship of such changes, communicated from the beginning of such workflow projects, so that as the projects move into the departments for employees to use the new processes, there is far less resistance. • 10. The Service Concept, Servqual Model And Understanding... For this report I will be looking into conduction a critique piece examining the ideas, theories and techniques specifically looking into the purpose application and limitation or the service concept, Servqual model and understanding customer types. The Service Concept Application The service concept can simply be broken down into three different stages which is firstly the organising idea this is basically when the service is used or bought by the consumer. The next being the service provided, this is the process in which affects the way their service provider ends up interacting with their customer base. Last but not least is the service received, now the service received is the end result of the customers overall experience in particular the emotions that they then feel towards this posing the question if they were satisfied with the service provide and lastly was it good value for the money that they ended up paying for it. (Johnston Clark 2008) A brilliant example of the service concept would be to look at Alton towers concept which is very good, the organising idea is quite a basic concept which involves having a great day out at the theme park with over 100 rides for families and amusement park goers and thrill seekers leaving them with a vast array of options to choose from. The service provided is free car parking, helpful staff, huge amount off customer toilets, Clean Park, and generally well run amusement park. With that being said this is what the customer is ... He had learnt as a practical business that fundamental statements like this had to be said at least twice, before everyone understood them. One had to sit, attracting all eyes to the conch, and drop words like heavy round stones among the little groups that crouched or squatted. He was searching his mind for simple words so that even the littluns would understand what the assembly was about. Later perhaps, practiced debaters Jack, Maurice, Piggy would use their whole art to twist the meeting: but now at the beginning, the subject of the debate must be laid out clearly (Golding 60). However, the littluns get confused and are not sure what Ralph is saying. This creates a setback for the group. For instance, it is written above, One had to sit, attracting all eyes to the conch, and drop words like heavy round stones among the little groups that crouched or squatted. This sentence signifies that the littluns cannot understand what Ralph is saying and they are not interested in what Ralph is saying. The use of Golding s simple diction and syntax also infers this tone. It creates the feeling that the littluns are bored and uninterested in what Ralph is saying. The style choices of this passage reflect the theme in the novel, power. Power is everywhere on the island and is shown through different levels throughout the novel. Ralph is chosen as the leader of a democratic system. Ralph uses his power as a way to create civilization and order in the society. In the 19th century the rich students were treated pleasantly because they had the money to pay the school however the poor students were treated harshly. Mr. Squeers has power in the beginning of the story but through the extent of the novel he looses the power to Nicholas Nickleby and the children gain hope from Nicholas Nickleby. For example administering a cut with the cane . This examines that Mr. Squeers has the power to do what ever he wishes to the children. Imperium suggests unlimited imperium (or power) (Antiquity 2 Interpreting The Past) This was the first of many titles that were to be given to Octavian after his defeat of Mark Antony in 31 BC at the Battle of Actium. It indicates that the provinces thought Octavian was worthy of being honoured, and that the power he possessed at the time should remain his. Therefore this was the first factor that initiated the rise of Octavian. 28 BC ~ During the struggle between Octavian and Antony, both men had purged the Senate of those who they viewed as posing a threat to them and who might initiate a revolt. After an initial refusal, Octavian accepted their offers, which left him in a much more powerful place than before. There were two main elements to Octavian s new position; these were the office of Proconsul and Consul. Proconsul was a position held for 10 years, and granted control over Spain, Gaul, Syria, Cilicia, Cyprus and Egypt, as well has having the right to appoint legates, make war and conclude treaties. These areas of the empire were in need of the most defence; therefore, the majority of the Roman army was stationed there. Octavian s control over these regions now extended to the control of a large section of the Roman army. A Consul was elected annually and had authority over Rome and Italy. There were several provinces belonging to the Roman people, and Octavian used his position as Consul to claim power over the proconsuls of such provinces. Even I am guilty of throwing away food I did not want or food I was too full to possibly eat. Someone will take a container of yogurt or a sandwich out of their lunch bag, decide they don t want it, and proceed to toss it into the black, wheeled trash cans. All that runs through my mind when I witness and experience these wasteful habits is that people don t understand how much perfectly eatable food faces the trash can every day. Food wastedoes not only occur in schools, food waste occurs in multiple environments, such as restaurants, grocery stores, and every day households. Food waste comes in all different forms as well, whether it is whole containers of salvageable snacks or scraps of food capable of utilization as compost. People don t completely understand the ample amounts of food wasted every day, every month, and every year. Because of this lack of awareness and knowledge, the government should provide educational programs regarding food waste and teach alternative disposal methods, such as composting or recycling, to the general public. The government should also instill food waste prevention programs to make sure people aren t throwing away perfectly good food because of reasons such as excess shopping or large meal portions. Present times need a drift from those traditional days and this is where Business Analytics comes in wherein managers can make better decisions, so rather than going with their gut when pricing products, maintaining inventory, or hiring talent, managers would use data, analysis, and systematic reasoning to make decisions that improve efficiency, risk management, and profits. The early emphasis on renewable energyin India was primarily on the wake of energy security concerns mooted during the global oil crisis around 1970s. It is argued that policy reforms initiated during the past two decades have transformed India s energy sector from a predominantly government owned system to a system largely driven by market elements. This is also evident in the case of renewable energy where the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) identifies the development of renewable energy in India across various phases: 1970s as research phase, 1980s as demonstration phase and 1990s onwards as commercialization phase with greater participation of private sector entities. The renewable sources of power in India still constitute a small portion of the entire power production of the country, with the total installed capacity of 32,000 MW (which is about 12% of the total installed capacity). • 22. Voter Turnout And Voter Apathy Voter turnout is commonly regarded as one of the most distinct issues within American politics of the last century. Though the United States once averaged a turnout rate of 78% of eligible voters in presidential elections between 1860 and 19001, the average voter turnout of the 21st century has fallen to around 52%2. The cause of the marked decline throughout the 20th century is often attributed simply to voter apathy, but the issue is much more complex. Upon analysis, it is clear that a number of factors have contributed to the decreased rate of voter turnout, of which voter apathy is perhaps the least influential. The decline in voter turnout in presidential electionsfrom the 19th to the 20th century is most likely a result of the instatement of the Australian ballot, the structure of the American electionsystem, and an increased disillusionment with the government over the last century. Until the late 19th century, voting was not entirely private in the United States, which led to inflated voter turnout in presidential elections due to the corruption it allowed. Initially, there were very few regulations imposed on voting. Ballots, for example, could be printed in any size or color and often were printed so that one could tell to which party it corresponded just by looking at it. A voter s name might be called out or recorded when he placed a vote. Others could even view the ballot of another until it was officially cast3. This lack of privacy in casting votes allowed ... It is a known fact that a substantial policy difference between the candidates in a particular race exists. Policymakers write specific policies for the future and an election determines who will write the policies, which decides the policy. The ideological characteristics of a state and a candidate for a political office has a positive correlation. Conservative states or districts have conservative candidates regardless of party affiliation. Meanwhile, liberal states or districts have liberal candidates regardless of party affiliation. Besides, the performance of the economy and of the president, assuming that the president and the candidate share the same party, affects the chances of the candidates. This is evident in almost all midterm elections in the modern era. If a president (Democratic President Obama) has perceived as not doing a good job and has a low approval rating (the mid 40s throughout much of his presidency), then congressional candidates in the midterm elections are not in their best position. Because of Antony s use of parallelism, he creates vivid reasoning for his speech. He states, I come here to bury Caesar, not to praise him (III.ii.44). By using this device, he shows the people of Rome that he isn t praising Caesar, he is putting the leader to rest. This particular line creates a very manipulative tone, because his speech is all about what great this Caesar has done and how he wants to rebel against the conspirators. Chromatic aberration is cause by the dispersion of a lens and the different colours of light travelling at different speeds. This causes the image of an object to appear with coloured edges or to be blurred (photographylife.com). Resolution is the most important variable in producing a quality, detailed image. The formula for resolution in a microscope is: R=О»/2NA where О» is the wavelength of light and NA is the numerical aperture of the objective lens. A higher value equated for R will give a poor resolution, whereas a lower value will form a more detailed resolution. A higher NA will produce a superior resolution because R will be reduced. Also, the smaller the wavelength, the lesser R will be, generating more detailed resolution. Because of this, the wavelength of blue/violet light is significantly smaller and will produce a very highly detailed resolution. From this, it can be understood that methods of illumination have significantly developed since the first compound microscope and shorter wavelengths of light produce much more superior quality images and are ideal for use in microscopes. The engineering design that went behind building such a massive barrier is unbelievable. While building started in 1931, it is clear that there was a huge push to make this structure even decades before the first shovel pierced the earth. The American agriculture in the southwest, was going through a cycle of floods and droughts, this would make for very harsh growing conditions. Engineers felt that it was possible to block the Colorado River, which would allow for regulation of the water and also hydroelectric power. This massive project would not have been possible without the financing of a very large company. During the middle of the depression, it was extremely hard to find a company who was willing to front the money to start the project. One was found and for close to forty nine million dollars, the dam was financed by six different smaller construction companies. The first thing that needed to be constructed was roads that lead up to the dam site. Hoover dam isn t anywhere close to any towns or cities. The railroads didn t even lead up to it. The first order of business was to make the dam accessible by the cars and trains that would be bringing in the supplies necessary to make the dam. In order to try and stop the water from flowing down to the dam site, a cofferdam was built slightly upstream, and another slightly down stream from the dam site. In the United States alone, over 440,000 people die annually from smoking tobacco (Tobacco Products.) By making the cost of unhealthy behavior prohibitive, we hope to produce a healthier society. Sin tax is used for taxes on activities that are considered socially undesirable. Common targets of sumptuary taxes are alcohol and tobacco, and gambling. I believe that Drinking and smoking are not sins, but if the effects of using them in excess have caused other Americans to pay more for medical care, I think we should impose higher taxes on them as to discourage their use. (Promises Treatment Centers.) It is uncommon to feel oppressed when one s surroundings does not protect his health against unhealthy habits. Such a scenario is seen when people smoke in closed public areas which results in health consequences for others. The same is observed with regards to alcohol where incidences of physical harassment and accidents have been acknowledged. It is unethical and greedy for one to think about himself and his rights, forgetting his duties towards others in the society. For those who claim that this is a free country and people have the right to do whatever they want, the government interferes and prohibits these actions when these actions negatively affects others. Raising sin taxes on tobacco and alcohol will result in three different problems such as business s disagreements and objections toward governmental taxation, unaffordability for the poor, and the increase of the unemployment rate. A hero is a person who must pass through a test and a battle (mental, spiritual or physical) to help someone else. He must be selfless, and act for others rather than himself. All societies have supported heroes, like the ancient Greek s Hercules and the modern day Spiderman. These are hero stereotypes, with supernatural powers. In the end, both succeeded, Grendel was killed, and sir Gawain received his blow, and stayed alive, but both had consequences. Beowulf s friends got killed, and later on Grendel s mother attacks him, and sir Gawain had been given a cut to his neck, and lost his honor. The test the heroes have to face, is often put up by a villain, and both have their fair share of villains. In Sir Gawain, the apparent villain is the green knight, who challenges sir Gawain to a grueling beheading contest . After it s head falls off, he is not harmed, so he has some weird magical qualities. • 48. A Flat Tax Is A Tax A flat tax is a tax that is applied at a consistent rate with no variables in its application. In contrast with progressive or regressive taxes, where the rate levied varies by income or according to other parameters, a flat tax means that everyone pays the same percentage. Flat taxes can be levied as sales or excise taxes, but the term is referred to the proposal of a single rate for all taxes on personal income ( History and Debate of Flat Tax). The proposal for a flat tax has been brought forward for debate on several occasions over the past few decades. At times, it is brought forward in the form of a flat tax on consumption, in a modified form on income taxallowing for some adjustments or deductions, and as a true flat tax on income with absolutely no exceptions. The proposal of a flat tax seems fair to a majority of the American people, however, it does not sound fair to everyone. Would implementing a flat tax really offer more income equality amongst American taxpayers? First and foremost, there are always pros and cons of every issue. The same applies to flat taxes, however, there are more drawbacks to the implementation of a flat tax system than there are benefits. • 51. Muscle Contraction System Intro: The heart has a clear function, which is to constantly pump blood through the body into every organ that consists of cells. Blood is transported through the body with veins and arteries that are set up through the body, one having oxygenated blood flowing into the body while the other is poor on oxygen heading into the lungs for gas exchanges. These pumps the hearts emulates are caused by electrical stimulation, which produce muscle contraction. The cardiac cycle has a regular pattern that is determined by electrical activity. It all starts at (SA) node which is located in the right and left atrium, the also know as the natural peacemaker, where electrical signals originate. Next, the (AV) node or the Atrioventicular node located on the opposite side of the (SA) node near the AV valves. The (AV) node serves as a bridge between the atrium and the ventricle, delaying the electrical impulses to ensure that the atria have completely pump the blood before the ventricle contraction.
