A Documentary Analysis Of The Documentary Paris Is Burning
The documentary, Paris is Burning follows individuals involved in New York s ball culture
during the late 80 s and early 90 s, which included Black, Latino, gay, and transgender individuals
(Green, 1993). Many of the participants in the balls lived in Houses which serve not only as a
team for ball competitions, but also as a family (Green, 1993). These houses are a place of safety
since many individuals are rejected by their families of origin (Green, 1993). The subjects of the
film face racism, homophobia, poverty, and AIDS (Green, 1993). One of the subjects of the film,
Angie Xtravaganza, died from AIDS related liver failure and another individual was murdered
(Green, 1993). Some were thrown out of their homes, engage in... Show more content on

One interview was with a woman named Grace Stevens who transitioned at the age of 64 and is a
leader in the transgender community (Nelson, 2015). She had a degree in engineering, but her
marriage of 25 years ended she earned a degree in counseling and works with individuals
struggling with issues around gender (Nelson, 2015). She described how she gradually would let
Grace out in certain areas of her life (Nelson, 2015). Stevens said that if you want to help
individuals who are transitioning, simply ask them what you can do to support them (Nelson, 2015).
Chloe Hollett described her experience of being transgender and seeking employment (2017). She
stated that many individuals who are transgender have a difficult time finding employment, only
35% of individuals who are transgender report being employed full time (Hollett, 2017). She
applied for jobs, even government positions with Democrats, often being interviewed, but was
never offered employment (Hollett, 2017). Hollett and her wife decided to move to Southern
California where Hollett met California State Senator Ricardo Lara (Hollett, 2017). The Senator
and Hollett worked together on a bill to expand LGBTQ education in the workplace (Hollett, 2017).

The Existence Of Gender Discrimination
The existence of gender discrimination in workplaces is not under dispute (Acker, 2006). In
virtually all societies across the world, women are known to be in a lower position in labour
market than men. Women are overrepresented in positions at the bottom echelons of
organisations; they have less status, prestige, power and authority on the job. Besides, women
are segregated into roles and jobs that offer poorer rewards and have fewer opportunities for
progression to positions of power (Walby, 1988). Women receive less pay and rewards than men,
even if they work in similar jobs with similar levels of responsibility and requiring a similar level
of ability (Cockburn, 1992). Although it has been argued that the poorer labour market position...

Neo classical economists explain discrimination in labour market in two ways: through the
notions of the taste for discrimination and through statistical discrimination (Sawyer, 1989They
argue that employers exhibit prejudices against certain groups based on their personal belief
system. In the case of women, it is suggested that employers discriminate based on the belief that
women are not as capable as men in certain roles. An excellent example of this is provided in a
litigation case that was brought against the financial services and auditing company
Pricewaterhouse Coopers (Case, 2014). Ann Hopkins took her employer to court when she was
passed over for promotion in favour of a male colleague in spite of the fact that objective records
showed that her performance on the job was far superior to that man s. The court found that
Pricewaterhouse Coopers had discriminated against Hopkins simply because she was a woman,
and they did not believe that she would be capable in the new role.
Neo classical economists, however, state that this form of discrimination is logical for employers
(Sawyer, 1989). This is due to the presence of uncertainty and asymmetric information, as well as
the fact that employers are rational in their decision making. Although information is available in
CVs, application forms, and other selection mechanisms, employers are still unable to be certain
that any new employees will fully meet the criteria for

A.African Colonization Colonialism is defined in the dictionary as a policy by which a nation
maintains or extends its control over foreign dependencies. African colonization is one example.
Africa was oppressed by the European imperial powers in the late 19th and early 20th centuries
(Parker, 2007). Unlike in other parts of the world, African colonization was short lived and the
colonial period was over by the 1960s (Parker, 2007). The European scramble for territory at the
end of 19th century is probably the best known occurrence in the continent s history. The involved
imperial powers were Britain, France, Portugal, Germany, Italy, and Spain (Parker, 2007). These

changes in the world s history but it is still not clear if the First World War caused the Russian
Revolution in 1917; it is obvious that domestic situations were reaching the crisis point before
August 1914; state and society were tilting toward dramatic confrontation. In 1915 1916 the
country was headed toward disaster economically and financially as enterprises were converting to
military production when it became obvious that the war would not be over soon. There were
problems with transportation, and the undersupply of raw materials. People began to voice their
discontent at government s incompetence. Members of the Duma formed the political association
Progressive Block that was calling for the tsar to be replaced with a government of public
confidence by which they meant themselves. The pressure for the tsar s resignation was rising. The

Statement Of Sop In Mechanical Engineering
Engineering, when I think about it or hear about it, the first thing that flashes in my mind is that
preparing toy cars with bottle caps and cardboard. From childhood my thoughts, imaginations
was about creating a toy or a thing from scrap. When, I was in my school I read a magazine
about cars which created a zeal in me to know more about automobile and I started a bit of
research about it. Encouraged and inspired by all those fascinating models that came forth from my
own dexterity, eventually I decided to pursue a career in Mechanical engineering. Alongside from
routine curriculum, daily I seek to learn a part or working of a part in an engine. This made to take
a masters course in Automotive Engineering.
Right from childhood I am a meritorious student being in the top 5% of the school in every

3rd Crusades Dbq
The 3rd Crusade, also known as the King s Crusade, began in the year of 1189 and ended in
1192. This crusade is considered as one of the most successful crusades. The aim of the 3rd
Crusade was to recapture Jerusalem, commonly regarded as the Holy Land, from the Muslims.
Saladin, the ruler of the Muslims, was the sole enemy in this military campaign.
The Crusade originally began due to a religious passion by both King Henry II of England and
King Philip II of France. They agreed to end their conflicts with each other in order to lead a new
crusade. However, in 1189, Henry died, leaving the role of Leader of the Crusades to his successor,
King Richard I of England. King Richard I of England was also known as Richard the Lion Heart,

He did this primarily by imposing a tax upon all the classes, known as the Saladin tithe. He would
also sell the right to official positions, land, and other privileges. Barbarossa was the first to set out
for the Holy Land, leaving in May 1189, with an army of over 20 000. While crossing the Saleph
River on June 10, 1190, Barbarossa drowned in the waters. After his death, most of his army
returned to Germany. On July 4, 1190, Richard and Philip met and set out for the Holy Land. In
May of 1191, Philip of France arrived at the city of Acre. Richard arrived soon after and began to
supervise the construction of weapons to assault the city. The city was captured on July 12, 1191.
Due to disagreement over the ownership of the newly conquered city, Philip, who was in poor
health, left with his army in August, leaving all but 10 000 soldiers behind. Soon after taking
control of Acre, Richard took Jaffa, which was necessary to do before attempting an attack on
Jerusalem. In November of 1191, the Crusaders advanced towards Jerusalem. At this point, Muslim
morale in Jerusalem was so low, that an attack by the Crusaders would

Waugh Presents Change Consistently as a Destructive Force...
Waugh presents change consistently as a destructive force in the novel To what extent do you
agree? Within the context of pastoral literature, change is typically seen as a destructive force,
intrinsic with the movement away from a harmony with the natural world towards modernisation
and corruption. In Brideshead Revisited the same pattern appears to be followed; moving from
the peaceful harmony of Sebastian and Charles life in Oxford into corruption and turmoil or the
shifting power balance between the social classes, from the nobility to the lower classes. However,
change is not exclusively a negative force in the novel. Charles and Sebastian s first encounter into
Rex s world of manipulation and smooth talk is shown to be... Show more content on

Looking beyond Hooper, the soldier s treatment of Brideshead adds to a sense of carelessness
and lack of awareness in the lower classes. The painting that Charles spent hours working on is
made absolute hay of , Charles created something of wonderful beauty, only to be destroyed by
unappreciative men; symbolic for the fate of Britain, in Waugh s eyes, in the hands of the Youth .
In respect of the changes Sebastian makes to Charles life, Waugh presents change as the antithesis
of destructive. Before Sebastian, Charles friends are described as grey figures , lifeless and
colourless boys whom scrambled fiercely for facts . Scrambled brings forth images of desperation,
fiercely for facts heightening the mocking tone of the description, as though they had nothing other
than facts to be passionate about. The first thing Waugh mentions about Sebastian, on the other
hand, is the magical day him and Charles lay underneath a tree in the country with the sweet scent
of tobacco merged with the sweet scents of summer around us and the fumes of the sweet, golden
wine lifting them a finger s breadth above the turf . The repetition of sweet makes this description
even more sensuous as it draws upon one s sense of taste and smells simultaneously, the heavy
sibilance in the phrase sweet scents making the

The Socialization Process Of Children
Through the socialization process, children learn gender roles at birth. In our society today, we
buy boy infants blue and girls infants pink. We even apply these color coded gender labels while a
baby is still in the womb. Gender socialization occurs through four categories: family, education,
peer groups, and mass media. Each category reinforces genderroles by creating and maintaining the
norm expectations for gender specific behavior. At an early age, children have an understanding
that there are distinct expectations for them based off of their gender. Studies show that children
are very much conscious of what gender roles are and how their role is supposedly portrayed by the
age two or three; at four or five, most children are appropriately displaying their specific gender role
(Kane, 1996). Most boys are given toy car, guns and action figures, all toys that promote
aggression and introverted playtime. Girls are often given dolls and dress up apparel that foster
nurturing, social closeness, and role play. These gender roles will continue on throughout their life.
Thus creating a barrier for women and men, predominantly women to have to try to break through.
Always facing scrutiny if they step outside of the gender specific spectrums society has set for them.
Law enforcement, military, and politics are usually predominantly occupied by men although
women tend to outnumber men in care related occupations like childcare, healthcare, and social
work. These occupational

Poverty And Its Effects On America
When most people think of poverty they think of somewhere overseas, however; poverty is a lot
closer to home than one might think. The winding, twisting roads of Eastern Kentucky have
picturesque scenery, but many of the people here are struggling in these hills. The people of
Eastern Kentucky have been dependent on the coalindustry to feed their families and pay their bills,
but this once thriving industry has been on the decline in recent years. Without coal, Eastern
Kentuckyis facing a grim future and many of its residents are struggling with the effects of losing
one of their main employment opportunities. Many people in this region face poverty every day
and with the prospects grim, poverty is an ongoing issue. According to Merriam Webster, poverty
is defined as the state of one who lacks a usual or socially acceptable amount of money or material
possessions. If you drive through many of the towns that dot the Appalachians, you will see
abandoned buildings, dilapidated homes with trash littering the front yard all just commonplace in
this area. Poverty is evident wherever you turn in these communities. Clay County is just one
struggling area of the Appalachians. Here the median income is $22,296, barely above the poverty
line. 12.7 % of Clay County s residents are unemployed, all scary statistics; since this is coal
country (Lowrey, Annie).Without coal bringing in jobs like it used to, other counties in Eastern
Kentucky have similar statistics that show a

Coming Of Age Theme
Loneliness expresses the pain of being alone and solitude expresses the glory of being alone
(Paul Tillich). Coming of age books have characters that are trying to find themselves. Books
that are in the coming of age genre have characters that deal with loneliness at some point. The
Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger, A Separate Peace by John Knowles, and Dead Poet s Society
directed by Peter Weir all share a common theme of loneliness. Todd and Neil are the two
characters that were the most lonely in Dead Poet s Society. Mr. Keating has Todd go to the
front of the class, he has him say a poem and Todd speaks a poem about being alone and he really
gets into it. Todd is a very passionate person, and he just has not found people to express... Show

Holden gets kicked out of school and decides to leave early and this is what he thought, I just
didn t want to hang around any more. It made me too sad and lonesome (Knowles 51). Holden
says that the school made him feel sad and isolated and that shows how he wants to change that
fact. Holden seems to need just people s presence more than they do, After Old Sunny was
gone... Boy, I felt miserable. I felt so depressed, you can not imagine. What I did, I started
talking sort of out loud, to Allie (Salinger 98). Holden is a lone wolf. He does not rely on anyone
for anything. He admits that he is depressed and talks to himself which implies that he also
realises that he is a loner. Another example showing Holden s loneliness is when he tells Sally,
We ll stay in these cabins camps and stuff like that until the dough runs out... I could get a job
somewhere and we could live somewhere with a brook and all and, later on, we could get
married or something (Salinger 132). Holden is so desperate for someone in his life that he even
tells Old Sally that he would marry her and live with her. Holden and Gene, from A Separate Peace,
share nothing in common because Gene purposefully distances himself while Holden does it

The Evolution Of Management Theory
Introduction
Detailed Summary
Management theory constantly evolves when there are new ideas or when there is and intention of
attempts of transforming the theory. Hence this theory can also be called as the condensed theory
To know the history of the management theory is the fundamental task (Sarshar, 2002).
The evolution of management began after the industrial revolution had occurred in Europe and
America, which was in the end of the 19th century. During the evolution of the management theory,
there were many major changes happening, like economic, cultural and technical. The start of the
evolution of the management theory was when there was an introduction to the steam power. That
was the time when the industries were built with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Scientific management theory
The techniques of the scientific management theory were defined by Frederick W. Taylor. F W
Taylor was a manufacturing manager, but he eventually became a consultant. He introduced four
principles
Principle 1: Study the way workers perform their tasks, gather all the informal jobs, knowledge
that worker possess, and experiment with ways of improving how tasks are performed.
Principle 2: Codify the new methods of performing tasks into written rules and standard operating
procedures.
Principle 3: Carefully select workers who possess skills and abilities that match the needs of the
task and train them to perform according to the established rules and procedures.
Principle 4: Establish a fair or acceptable level of performance for a tasks, and then develop a pay
system that rewards performance about the acceptable level (Jones and George, 2003).
In the 1900 s these principles were known nationally and were applied in many organisations. In
some organisations the managers choose to follow only some of the principles, which led to some
problems. After applying the principles the efficiency of the organisation increased, but instead of
sharing the profit with the workers as specified by Taylor, the managers expected the workers to
work for more hours for that same wages. After a while the workers realised that the increase in the
efficiency in the firm

Poverty in the U.S.
According to a 2013 article in the Economist, the US currently boasts the highest post tax level
of income inequality of any high income country in the world (Economist 2013). The nations
Gini Coefficient a measure of wealth inequality currently stands at .42, well above that of other
nations such as Switzerland and Sweden, which have Gini Coefficients of .31 and .33
respectively. Unfortunately this high level of income and wealth inequality is growing. Between
1979 and 2011, American earners in the top one percent saw wages increase by 113 percent,
earners in the 95th percentile saw wages grow 37 percent (Fuller 2014). However, the income
growth for the median worker during that same period was a mere six percent. These simple... Show

Without adequate health insurance, many families become burdened with healthcare debt, further
tightening the shackles of poverty, and making upward mobility almost impossible. The US
economy relies heavily on the middle class, and the lower class, to keep the economy growing,
and to create jobs (Reich 2014a). When gains from economic growth disproportionately
advantage the top one percent, the purchasing power of rest of society, especially the middle
class, is diminished and they struggle to perform their necessary function. This situation
disproportionately disadvantages the poor. As largely unskilled and less educated laborers, they
are the first to be fired and the last to be hired. They bear the burden of declining wages and
benefits. The middle class is also shrinking, and can no longer generate enough tax revenue to
provide adequate education, safety nets, and family/social services for themselves and the poor.
While wages, job accessibility, educational quality, and social services decline, and while income
inequality grows to favor the wealthy, the income ladder gets longer and harder to climb. Upward
mobility is increasingly daunting, and the shackles of poverty are growing tighter. Many
conservative politicians openly deny or lack recognition of the connection between inequality and
political power (Reich 2014a). However, this naГЇve and disingenuous sentiment emanates

Hamlet s Tragic Flaws
A tragic hero is a literary character who makes a judgment error that inevitably leads to his/her own
destruction (bisd303.org). The judgement errors that tragic heroes face are due to their own tragic
flaw. Hamlet, from the Shakespearean play Hamlet , is one of many tragic heroes who must bear
their flaws until they meet their noble death. Before his imminent downfall, Hamletis approached by
the ghost of his father, Hamlet Sr. This ghost explains to him that he was murdered by the king
and that Hamlet must avenge him. Beginning his quest to kill the king, Hamlet begins to question
who he can trust and if it is better to die than to live. The tragic flaws of paranoia, and selfishness

Hamlet used Ophelia to get to Polonius, as a way to mess with him and make people think that
he had gone insane. He treated her like dirt, a whore that he never loved (Despite at the end of
the play, when he claims he loved Ophelia more than Laertes, her brother, ever could).
Essentially, Hamlet abused her to get to her father, without caring how it would directly affect
Ophelia. He didn t care how his actions affected anyone else but himself. To add to Ophelia s
abuse, Hamlet, during an argument with his mother, stabs Polonius. Afterwards, showing no
remorse, he rehearses: Thou wretched, rash, intruding fool, farewell./I took thee for thy better.
Take thy fortune./Thou find st to be too busy is some danger (III.iv.32 34). He shows no remorse
for the murder of Polonius, and even less for how he killed the father of Ophelia, the girl he
claims to love. This selfish act of murder, which was done impulsively without thought, would end
up causing Hamlet s unfortunate end. If he hadn t of murdered Polonius, then Laertes wouldn t
have wanted revenge for the death of his father. If not for the murder, Hamlet would probably still
be alive. The impact of Polonius death was greater on Ophelia than on her brother. After Hamlet
was sent to England, Ophelia was left alone without a father and confused from the actions of
Hamlet. While Hamlet was only acting crazy, acting selfishly

Light and Dark Imagery in Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness
Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad is a novel about a man named Marlow and his journey into
the depths of the African Congo. Marlow is in search of a man named Kurtz, an ivory trader.
Though Marlow?s physical journey seems rather simple, it takes him further into his own heart and
soul than into the Congo. The setting, symbols and characters each contain light and dark images,
these images shape the central theme of the novel. Conrad uses light and dark imagery to help
create the setting for the story; light represents civilization while darkness suggests the uncivilized.

The river Thames is the river that brings you into Europe, civilization, while the Congo brings you
into the jungle or darkness. Another important symbol in the story is the ivory. The ivory has a two
fold meaning and is a central theme in the novel. Ivory is taken from the tusks of male elephants;
they live in a pristine area untouched by humans. However, once the white man places a high
price on the ivory, the ivory turns from good to evil. Conrad uses the ivory as a representation of
the greed and corruption that is in the white mans soul. In the case of Kurtz this same greed and
corruption overtook his soul, and caused his death. Each character has a special role in the
novel; Kurtz and Marlow are the most important, through these two characters we are able to see
how good and evil balance each other out. Marlow?s journey into the heart of darkness can also
be seen as a journey into his own soul. He was in search of the darkest of objects, the ivory.
Unlike Kurtz, Marlow was able to withstand the darkness from controlling him. Kurtz soul
became the darkness and caused him to forget everything else there was to life. His last words
were not that of love but rather of hate, ?The horrors the horrors.? Heart of Darkness by Joseph

She has done her homework in compiling this book and it shows as she goes back and forth
with the dates of different events. The book also shows maps in the beginning that help the
reader to get a better idea of the geography of the area in the past times along with genealogical
charts that give a clear picture of Muhammad s gene . It s a well written book for an intelligent
person who wishes to be informed.
The main idea or it can be called an argument that Armstrong put forth was to break the wrong
image of the west about the Holy Prophet. She starts describing Muhammad s rising success as a
skilled and respected politician; Armstrong mentions that the Christian world has always judged
this part of the prophet s life with distrust. The Western view has traditionally seen Muhammad s
political success as proof that he was an impostor using religion as a means to power. To explain
this attitude, Armstrong offers the following insight:
Because the Christian world is dominated by the image of the crucified Jesus, who said that his
kingdom was not of this world, we tend to see failure and humiliation as the hallmark of a
religious leader. We do not expect our spiritual heroes to achieve a dazzling success in mundane
terms. (p. 164)
Armstrong depicts Muhammad (saw) in glowing colors, even when she admits his wrongdoings. In
the 8th chapter, Holy War , Armstrong recounts the massacre and summary executions of the

I Naturally And Instantly Chose `` Bohemian Rhapsody `` By...
For my song analysis assignment, I naturally and instantly chose Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen.
This song was the anthem of the 70 s and still, our anthem today. Nothing compares to the
harmonies and musicianship put into this song.
Queen released Bohemian Rhapsody on October 31, 1975.
This song was greeted like a gift from heaven in the largely desolated musical ground of the mid 70s
Freddie Mercury is the writer of the song also pianist and a lead vocalist in Queen. He wrote the
song in his apartment whilst he was trying to develop a complex song using a structure that leans
towards a more classical approach.
In the studio, the band embraced the psychedelic and progressive elements (which were initiating
throughout this era) and took them to another level.
Bohemian Rhapsody was nothing more than their simple their simple instrumental line up of
Guitar, Bass, Piano and Drums. However, they played them like they were something completely
new and in doing so; Queen delivered a new revolution of rock music.
Thrown into the period of glam, it was no surprise when Queen s elegance earned them a glam
rocker tag.
The title of the song has a powerful ideology. The word Bohemian could be traced to the practice
of an untraditional lifestyle. I believe the song has something to do with Freddie coming out as a
homosexual. In that era, it was not a normal thing and therefore majority of people were against it.
Interestingly enough the song has not got a chorus, but just

Doubt By Sister Aloysius
Our dark ideas can sometimes lead us to choose the way things are perceived, the unquestioned
beliefs we hold reinforce our nature of certainty consequently clouding our judgment of the truth,
and making it difficult for us to see beyond the darkness. Doubt is a story about A Catholic school
in the Bronx, throughout the story a judgment is formed through the dislike of Father Flynn, which
is the Schools Priest. Sister Aloysius overcasts her ideas on father Flynn and eventually accuses
him of wrongfully being involved with a troubled young African American Boy who s experienced
considerable difficulties in school, due to racial, and sexual orientation. In this film, we can see
character development in sister Aloysius, she presents a darkened way of thinking, and single
mindlessly pursued to show this sunless perception of her ideology. Sister Aloysius development

The unquestioned beliefs that sister Aloysius holds are answered in the film, in a scene in which
she was talking we can see the light bulb goes out and darkness overshadowing her as she speaks.
Additionally, in the same scene in which shows the dimmest of lights on sister Aloysius, we can see
the illumination of lights shining down on Father Flynn as he speaks. Furthermore, another form of
symbolism used in the film comes after sister Aloysius hears about father Flynn s wrong doing with

Male homoeroticism in Plato s Symposium and the Greek lyric poets: Complimentary or
contradictory?
Works Cited Missing
Images of male homosocial and homoerotic relations pervade Athenian culture. From plays to
poetry and jugs to the justice system one can find these relations represented pictorially and in
words. But do all these images align with each other or are there irreconcilable differences
between them? To look at this question we will take two small pieces of culture, a philosophical
treatise, Plato s Symposium and the lyric poetry of Theognis and Anacreon.
Homoerotics are mentioned in several speeches in Plato s Symposium but I will focus on those
statements made by Phaedras and Pausanias. The reason for the use of these ... Show more content

(Theognis, 1267 1270) and again, ?Boy, you?re like those adrift in risks, / your mood now
friendly to some, now others.? (Theognis, 1257 1258) Theognis speaks clearly of an erastes who?s
virtuous behavior has been repaid with infidelity and ?slutting around.? The erastes feels betrayed
and regretful that this boy he cares for appears headed for dangerous risks implying htta he expects
honorable behavior. But this is not the end of Phaedras? praise for homoerotic relations.
Phaedras continues on and speaks of the things that Love can inspire men to. Though he does not
confine these benefits to homosocial interactions, he does specifically include them. After stating
that older men are more prone to die than be humiliated in the sight of their eromenos, he goes on
to say that, ??as for abandoning his boyfriend or not helping him when danger threatens ? well,
possession by love would infuse even utter cowards with courage. ? Moreover, only lovers are
prepared to sacrifice themselves ? and this goes for women as well as men.? (Phaedras, 179a)
Phaedras claims, similarly to modern poets that love will drive one to the brink or even over the
edge of death. It is hardly surprising, then, to find a similar image again in the poetry of
Theognis, ?Boy, as long as your cheek is smooth, I?ll never / stop praising you, not even if I have
to die.? (Theognis, 1327 1334) On the inclusion of women, however, Theognis disagrees with

Wb Yeats As A Dynamic Poet
William Butler Yeats is one of the most renowned Anglo Irish poets and a winner of the Nobel
Prize for Literature in 1923. As a representative symbolist poet his primary focus was to place his
love for his origins, literature, philosophy and history in his art. The world that he presents in his
works is a mixture of natural, human and cultural values. There is constant renewal,
experimentation and utter dedication to the craft of poetry in his works. Of all the poets in our
course, WB Yeats is easily our favorite. His poetry has a dynamic quality. Several aspects of his
poetry that appeal the most to us are the political or polemical dimension to his work, his use of
nature as a theme and his reflection on old age, body and the soul and finally his discussion on
mysticism and reincarnation of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the most important aims of poetry is to give the reader aesthetic pleasure. But what is
more important is that it should present reality truthfully and defend human values artistically.
It should envision a society where people can live a better life. Yeats did just that. The greatness
of his poetry lies in the fact that it interprets the contemporary political events within the
framework of a philosophical system. All the great poets speak of people and rise above the
petty politics of their class. The cross the boundary of politics and enter into the realm of
philosophy. Yeats too rose above the ephemerality of politics and made an attempt to achieve
permanence in poetry by following the philosophical system. Being from an Anglo Irish family,
he could have easily gone to the English side but what he chose was to represent the repressed
Irish people. He was a nationalist but he spoke of all nations colonized by the British. He had a
special sympathy for India. As a poet he was concerned with human values and believed that there

This paper is a critique of a production of Show Boat, a musical classic with compositions by
Jerome Kern and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, which was performed and produced by NETworks
Presentations LLC at Emens Auditorium on the 14th of February 2001. Clayton Phillips, the
director of the production, attempted to test the waters of racial discriminationby exploring
controversial themes such as prejudice and interracial relationships. Show Boat takes an
enlightened approach to ethnic controversy by using both music and drama to express the feelings

The scenes and props complimented the attire of the performers, blending together create a
magnificent display. The scenery was realistic enough to afford the viewer an escape into depths of
the show. The setting was beautiful and the structures almost lifelike, excepting the absence of a
front screen door. It seems that almost all plays and television shows I have viewed neglect this
detail. The stage lighting played a key role in the show by setting the mood of the performance
during soulful, pensive songs. In contrast, the lighting proved to be a detriment by overbearing the
performance of the artists, in that one s attention was drawn to the glare of extreme quantities of
makeup rather than the actions of the characters. This was most notable during the final portions of
the production.
The entertainers gave their characters genuine life through their gestures, attitude and charm. Even
the way the voices led one to believe that the characters were actually presenting their own thoughts
and ideas, not those of fictional characters. During the play, the voices of the performers were quite
audible, excepting certain musical presentations when the lyrics of the songs were at points nearly
indiscernible. Even with consideration given to this technical glitch, the sound quality was quite
agreeable and the songs enjoyable. The voices of the performers were strong

Alexander Hamilton Vs. Thomas Jefferson

Ms. Bishop Alexander Hamilton vs. Thomas Jefferson During the ratification of the Constitution of
1787, the Federalist and Anti federalist views created tensions and barriers between the two.
Federalists, who supported the making of a new document, the Constitution, differed from Anti
federalists who believed that the new system threatened liberties and failed to protect individual
rights. Anti federalist, such as Patrick Henry, James Winthrop and Samuel Adams, believed in state
s rights and only urged the need of alterations to the Articles of Confederation rather than dispose of
it. Likewise, several arguments arose including the issue of slavery, the duties of the Supreme
Court, but majorly the Bill of Rights. The Bill of Rights is the general name for the first ten
amendments in United States Constitution. These were proposed to alleviate the fears of Anti
Federalists; furthermore, well known Founding Fathers disputed that the Constitution should not be
ratified because it failed to protect the basic principles of human liberty. Contrastingly, Hamilton
and Madison alike disagreed with the beliefs of the Anti federalists and believed that the
Constitution did not need a Bill of Rights; it would create a parchment barrier that limited the rights
of the people, as opposed to protecting them. However, they eventually made the decision to
willingly establish the said amendments into the Constitution which

The Real and Feigned Madness of Hamlet and Ophelia Essay...
In William Shakespeare s Hamlet, a kind of madness ultimately infects everyone, leading to an
ending in which almost every major character is dead. Two of these maddened characters are
Hamlet and Ophelia, who also share a love for each other. But though their irrational behavior is
often similar and their fatesalike, one is truly mad while the other is not.
Both Hamlet and Ophelia act very strangely. Hamlet, the prince of Denmark, insults everyone
around him. He tells Ophelia he never loved her, calls her father a fishmonger, and in subtle ways
calls his mother a whore and her new husband a murderer. And Hamlet himself is driven to acts of
murder, from the unintentional stabbing of Polonius to the plotting that kills Rosencrantz and ...

When Polonius tells Ophelia to repel Hamlet s advances, she promises to obey. And it is only after
their fathers are killed that Hamlet and Ophelia begin to act mad.
Both Hamlet and Ophelia are ultimately destroyed. Hamlet, whose quest was to prove the guilt of
Claudius no matter what the consequences, is murdered by Laertes in a plot concocted by the king
as he felt himself cornered. Ophelia drowns, perhaps willfully.
But Hamlet s madness is an act while Ophelia s is not. Though Hamlet considers suicide in his
grief after his father s death, his madness is part of a plot to snare Claudius for murder. Hamlets
tells his friend Horation, I perchance hereafter shall think meet / To put an antic disposition on

Polonius notices the method / in t (II.2.203 204), and Claudius insists that what he spake, though
it lacked form a little, / Was not like madness (III.1.163 164). In contrast, Ophelia s madness is

If we focused on solid waste management (SWM) the waste produced was collected and dump in

The instruments used measured indirectly and were not always reliable due to various issues with

Title: How do various mixing methods affect the production of milk fat?
Purpose
The purpose of the experiment was to determine which method of agitation, either shaking, stirring,
whisking, or blending, produced the largest mass of milk fat.
Background InformationProducing butter is a task that can easily be done at home. Butter is one of
the most highly concentrated forms of fluid milk that is made simply by agitating heavy cream
(Douma, 2008). There are several methods of agitation, including shaking, stirring, whisking,
and blending. In this experiment, all four methods were used to determine which mixing
method produced the most milk fat or butter. First of all, in order to understand the making of
butter, one must be familiar with milk and its composition. The components of milk include
87% water, 4% fat, 5% sugar or lactose, 2.6% casein, .7% albumen, and .7% ash (Ross, 1914).
Milk is an emulsion, which is a type of colloid. A colloid is a homogenous mixture in which large
molecules are suspended throughout another substance. Under this category, there are also two
types of emulsions: oil droplets in water or water droplets in oil (BBC, 2014). Milk is an example
of an emulsion of evenly distributed fat particles throughout water. In this experiment, heavy cream
was used because it contains a greater concentration of fat particles in water. However, in order to
keep the particles from separating, emulsifiers are needed to stabilize the mixture (Institute of Food

The Destruction Of Our Democracy
The Destruction of Our Democracy
All contributions by corporations to any political committee or for any political purpose should be
forbidden by law . This quote from Theodore Roosevelt illustrates how corporate money can be
disastrous when entangled in elections. Unfortunately, the United States continues to grant large
corporations the ability to donate to campaigns, leading to a corrupt campaign system. The
Supreme Court decided in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission that companies and
Super PAC s can donate an unlimited amount of money to endorse candidates. The Citizens United
ruling has caused increased political corruption in the United States by giving candidates the money
they need to win an election while changing policies that would be beneficial to their corporate
donors and not the American people.
Pre Citizens United
There were several landmark Supreme Court cases and laws before Citizens United that
attempted to regulate campaign contributions. Political corruption is easily caused by immense
sums of funds going to a candidate. A candidate will be more likely to benefit corporate interests
because that will allow them access to more capital later to help in reelection efforts. This
becomes problematic because average citizens do not have the capacity to donate large sums of
money to a candidate. A large corporation s speech is thus, worth far more than the average citizen.
This drastically impacts the marketplace of ideas. John Stuart Mills in

Summary Of The Dirty Little Secrets Of Getting A Dream Job
The present state of the American economy is one that has improved since the Great Recession,
but is still nevertheless an arduous battle zone for job hunting. Obtaining a job is difficult on its
own, getting a good one is even harder, and obtaining one s own dream job is usually even more
difficult. Don Raskin in his book, The Dirty Little Secrets of Getting Your Dream Job, opens up
his ideology regarding this subject with a much more optimistic mentality. He argues that the
economy is improving and that the market for jobs is indeed getting stronger, but college

When I m applying for jobs or internships, it doesn t usually come to mind that there are probably
hundreds of other applicants looking for a similar job. Raskin argues that in order to be
successful at landing a job, you need to have something to catch the eye of the prospective
employer who is probably sifting through multiple resumes every hour. This involves having a
legitimate and well thought out cover letter, resume, and email letter note. Raskin even breaks
down the resume and what he looks for in applicants. The resume is single handedly the most
important part of the application process aside from the interview and what comes after, and he
breaks it down step by step in order for you to understand what it is you need to do. He even
emphasizes that the interest and activities portion of the resume is an often overlooked but
important part that tells the employers about the human being that s applying for the job. The best
part of the book, however, is the little anecdotes of people that Raskin actually interviewed. These
anecdotes are sometimes failures, successes, or somewhere in between. Understanding these

Conceptually, MBO is the ultimate in participative management, since a subordinate can help
establish personal objectives for their job, help determine the measurements used in evaluating
performance, and receive constant feedback on progress. On the surface MBO restates the
obvious. For example, Isaiah (46:11) writes: I have spoken it, I will also bring it to pass; I have
purposed it, I will also do it. Unfortunately all human endeavor is full of disasters where
fundamental principles or obvious data were overlooked, ignored, or rejected.

Ag Class Research Paper
All people at Carroll County Middle School enjoy fun activities and classes. In ag class you will
get to build, weld, and learn about farming. There is only one awful thing about ag class which
is you have to be chosen. Ag class is certainly fun and all the kids at Carroll County Middle
School enjoy ag class. One idea to do in ag class is build hands on projects. I think building is
fun and can help you with life. In ag class whatever you build you get to keep and take home
with you. You also learn how to build and weld which is important if you want to be a carpenter.
Some of the kids do not finish their projects and they have to take home an unfinished project. If
you do not know anything about building you will learn quick. Building hands on projects is
wonderful because kids at school have more than likely not had an experience like that in their
life. Parents will be very proud of their child if they finish the project because they will want to
brag and show their friends what their child done.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of these clubs include Forestry, and Stockmens. Forestry is where you go to different
places and look at trees and judge how ancient they are and what kind of kind of tree they are.
Stockmens is where you go to the ag fair and judge different types of livestock. You can also
hold offices like President, Vice President, Treasure and a bunch of more offices. The most
amazing thing to the kids is that you get to go places you have never been before. Also, if you are
amazing enough, you can win gold, silver, and bronze medals. Then, if you are interested you can
show up to ag and become an officer or be in a club if you are

Argumentative Essay On Fiddle In Canada
Canada is the worlds second largest country, after Russia. Canada is the most educated country,
over half of the population has college degrees. Canadas lowest recorded temp. was 81.4 degrees
Fahrenheit. Canada has the most lakes in the world. Canada has the largest coastline. Canada s
Yong street is the longest in the world. After the Pearl Harbor attack Canadadeclared war on Japan

gain popularity until around the 17th century. The violin and the fiddle are the exact same
instrument. Some will argue that while a violin is a fiddle, not every fiddle is a violin. Old
fashioned musicians prefer the word fiddle instead of violin to differentiate

Validity of the Fama French Three Factor Model in China during 2011 2015

Abstract
This paper mainly explores the validity of the Fama French Three Factors model during 2011 2015
by using 30 stocks which is from A share stock marketin China, in contrast to the results of Fama
and French (1993) in U.S, there are some differences. Market risk premium has a significant in
Chinese stock market, but for the factors SMB and HML, both of them are not as significant as the
United States, but it still has a little marginal return. Meanwhile, we use Capital Assets Pricing

To maximizing the interest of the investment, it depends on the information capture capability of
investors in the stock market. Most investors in China start their investments without enough
knowledge about the operating of stock market. They just follow what the most people do. If things
continue in this way, economic bubble may occur. Therefore, it is particularly important for
investors to get a general knowledge about the core of stock market.
Over the past few decades, economists were continually developing a variety of asset pricing
models. The first and the most important model is called Capital Assets Pricing Model, which was
developed by William Sharpe, John Lintner and Jack Treynor (1964). It is based on the theory of
composition and capitalization, which discussed the expected return and the relationship between
risky assets in stock market. And now, Capital Asset Pricing Models becomes the pillar of multiple
asset pricing models, and widely use in investment.
However, since the 1970s, foreign economists began to do a lot of empirical research, specially in
American capital market, which is able to provide a mature financial environment for the Capital
Asset Pricing Model. Nevertheless, in 1980, there have been lots of negative verification results,
economists started to discuss the Capital Asset Pricing Model, sometimes, it can not reasonably
explain in stock market. In 1992, Fama and French (1992) considered

Drinking Age Should Be Lowered
Because the twenty one year old drinking law is not working, and is counterproductive, it
behooves as a nation to change our current prohibition law to teach responsible drinking
techniques for those who chose to consume alcohol, says Professor Ruth Enges, and I couldn t
agree more. If the drinking age is lowered there will be less abuse of alcohol.
The United States drinking age has a long history. It all started when our founding fathers created
the amendments and made the eighteenth outlawing drinking entirely (The MLDA should be
lowered). This caused several problems because people kept stealing alcohol and hurting people to
get a hold of it. Then, the states started making their own laws. From 1969 to 1976 there were 30

Mcdonald s Commercial
It s becoming more common for the top athletes being advertised in commercials such as
McDonald s, Arby s and even Coke. These athletes are competing at the highest level; they are
strong, healthy and very driven at whatever they do so that they are successful. They are what
little girls and boys dream of being when they are older. In a commercial put on by McDonald sit
continues the trend of top tier athletes promoting their fast food. This commercial sends a harmful
message to viewers, and McDonald s should stop airing this immediately.
This commercial begins smoothly enough. LeBron James, this NBA star, is at this undisclosed
club, and wants to get in. He is then approached from a McDonald s worker asking him for the
secret pass code. LeBron then tells her special sauce . He is let in and the commercial begins to
say that in this club, only the best of the best gather there. It shows LeBron James being the
newest member of the club as it simultaneously shows Johnny Manziel, Alex Morgan and Ally
Raisman all there already. The commercial voiceover then goes what does one serve the best
basketball player in the world? and then it shows a vivid picture of the new Bacon Clubhouse
Sandwich all while describing what s inside this new sandwich by McDonald s. It emphasizes on
the special sauce ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The commercial is quite funny, and LeBron and other top athletes apart of it heighten the scene.
LeBron obviously is the best of the best and wants to get in with the others. The McDonald s
worker being this innocent door girl letting in these athletes with the password gives off this vibe
that all McDonald s workers are as cheerful as she is. The piece is effective in portraying
McDonald s as a delicious choice for even top athletes. The commercial clearly reaches its audience
in a humorous and memorable way. But there is more going on here than just LeBron enjoying this
club and new

The Diagnosis Of Cancer, Pulmonary Tuberculosis, And Hiv Aids
The diagnosis is one of the most important factors which influence the outcome of diseases but
still it is ignored on a large scale by people. In cases of chronic diseases such as cancer, HIV AIDS,
and tuberculosis, the problem of late diagnosis is severe which causes high number of casualties.
The physical symptoms may take time to appear in some cases of cancer. When a person starts to
notice the symptoms, the disease is already in a late stage. In India, 70 percent of cancer patients
consult the doctor at the terminal stage, according to doctors. Thus, late diagnosis of diseases is a
serious concern globally and rigorous research is being done to invent innovative techniques to
tackle this problem. In this study, the cases of breast... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A cancer tumor often produces a specific protein in the blood that serves as a marker for the
cancer. Circulating tumor cells are cells that break off from the cancer and move into the blood
stream. Protein markers and circulating tumor cells can be measured with simple blood tests. This
method is not specific in nature as one marker may be common for multiple types of cancer.
Hence, other tests are performed to confirm the diagnosis of breast cancer.
For example, presence of CEA (carcinoembryonic antigen) marker is associated with colon, lung,
and liver cancer. It also suggests that breast cancer has travelled to other parts of body. iii)
Breast MRI: MRI, or magnetic resonance imaging, is a technology that uses magnets and radio
waves to produce detailed cross sectional images of the inside of the body. Breast MRI has a
number of different uses for breast cancer, including: screening high risk women (women known
to be at higher than average risk for breast cancer, either because of a strong family history or a
gene abnormality), and gathering more information about an area of suspicion found on a
mammogram or ultrasound, monitoring for recurrence after treatment. iv) FISH Test:
Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH) is a test that maps the genetic material in a person s
cells. This test can be used to visualize specific genes or portions of genes. FISH testing is done on

The Global Hunger And Food Security Initiative
Hunger has always been a part of the history of humankind. Today we are more aware of this
issue, especially on a global level. Most initiatives and assistance programs were previously
received funding from the private sector primarily through religious affiliations, however, in May of
two thousand ten the United Stateslaunched the global hunger and food security initiative known as
Feed the Future, or FTF to aid nineteen countries including areas of Africa, Asia, Latin America,
and the Caribbean (FTF, 2014). The selection of participating regions follows a five step criterion,
which addresses their need, their opportunity for partnerships, their potential for agriculture, and the
resources available to them, while, evaluating their synergy or ability to interact with two or more
organization, which produces greater combined effects. This program works in collaboration with
other agencies to employ not only the use of training, technology, and resources of the countries
involved , but to also help the countries boost ownership of the solutions to their hunger. According
to the Feed the Future Progress Report 2014, vital areas, such as inclusiveness, empowerment,
effectiveness, as well as sustainability, substantiate that these central concepts addressed are slowly
providing a means to ending hunger as well as extreme poverty. This program is empowering men
and women farmers with emphasis on building skills and knowledge in order to provide sustainable
practices, thus,

The Myers Briggs Type Indicator Essay
The Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a self report personality assessment developed by
Katharine Cook Briggs and Isabel Briggs Myers based on the typological personality theory of
Carl Jung. The MBTI is comprised of four dichotomous nominal scales: Introversion/Extroversion,
Sensing/Intuition, Thinking/Feeling, Judgment/Perception. These four scales assign individuals
one of sixteen personality types. While the measures of the MBTI themselves are taxonomies,
the assigned personality type is a typology meaning, an INTP is not an introverted ENTP, but an
entirely different personality all together. The MBTI is commonly used in career counseling, with
associated best fit careers for each MBTI type. The MBTI is also one of the best well known
personality assessments in the public consciousness. However, the actual practical applications of
the MBTI in psychological research is unclear. While the Myers Briggs Type Indicatorcontinues to
be a major pop psychology personality assessment, there has been much debate about the MBTI s
actual usefulness for predicting behaviors in a variety of psychology research. An analysis of the
MBTI s reliability and validity (namely construct, content, and criterion validity) reveals that while
the MBTI does have other useful applications primarily in workplace team building and facilitating
communication the measure does not hold up to scrutiny in research applications; research into the
typological aspects of the MBTI has been

The History And Political Causes Of The Cold War
The Cold War refers to an era of U.S. history from roughly 1945 to 1990. Although the U.S.S.R.
and the U.S. fought ideological proxy wars in Vietnam, Korea, and Afghanistan, this era is referred
to as the Cold War because the United States and Soviet Union never actually engaged in war
themselves. The origins of the Cold Warcan be traced back to the finale of World War II. Beginning
with the Yalta Conference, the Allied powers of the Soviet Union, United States, and Great Britain
started a discussion concerning post war foreign policies. Specifically, the political system of
Poland became an important question for the Big Three . Should Poland be allowed to form a
democratically elected government, or should Russia be allowed to occupy Poland and further
expand their communist influence? Essentially, this question and many like it characterized the
motivation for the Cold War. The United States sought to contain communism while the Soviet
Union pushed for both land expansion and political influence across the globe. (CITE) Harry
Truman took the office of President just a few months before the end of World War II. Truman
inherited a plethora of dilemmas heading into the post War World II era, and he decided to take his
stance on international affairs in 1947 with the Truman Doctrine. Essentially, the Truman Doctrine
promised that America would personally intervene in order to insure that democracy would remain
secure in foreign governments. This was a stark contrast from the popular isolationist paradigm of
the 20s and 30s. Furthermore, the Truman Doctrine prompted an unusual act of international
involvement when Congress agreed to aid Greek and Turkish militaries in an effort to counter
communist influence in these regions. Additionally, Truman s handling of the Korean War is
another example of his firm stance of containment. Truman made no qualms about aiding the
indigenous troops of South Korea with weapons and troops, but he did openly reject the notion of
meeting either China or the Soviet Union in an open land battle. Furthermore, Truman fired
General Douglas MacArthur based on the general s strong notion to invade China and reluctance to
respect the President s authority. Truman s decisions

Annoying Shoppers
Grocery shopping can be a very interesting experience. It seems like nothing more than a quick
and easy chore at first. You go in, throw whatever you want into your cart, pay and then get out.
Its almost relaxing, that is if the grocery store is completely empty. Unfortunately, there are
always those other shoppers. The ones who think they own the place or something. They re in just
about every grocery store in America. You know who I m talking about, that one parent usually a
mom with a kid who just so happens to be screaming bloody murder. Also, everyone knows a bad
cart driver when they see one, not to mention the label readers. And finally, probably the... Show

So, after carefully scanning each regular check out line, you finally spot the one with what
seems like the shortest line and casually stroll over there to wait your turn. What you didn t see,
was that the lady you decided to stand behind had the entire store in her cart! Little did you know
that she was the worst shopper of them all the Couponer. This is the bargain shopper who s
annoying actions are broken down into three steps. First, this shopper will decide to pack her cart
so full that the pile of groceries in her cart is taller than she is! Inevitably, creating a longer
waiting time for you. Next, she will stand there, stare at the clerk s computer screen and argue
about the 2 for 1 price for every item that doesn t match up exactly the way she wants. Finally,
after all her groceries are scanned, bagged and carted, the couponer will then proceed to dig
through her entire purse searching for every coupon she has ever saved over the past year for
that one shopping trip. As if she hasn t already wasted enough of everyone s time. It is at this
point of your experience when you realize that any hope of an efficient and speedy shopping trip
was just tossed out the window. With all of the annoying people that decide to go to the grocery
store, shopping can easily turn from a quick and easy chore into one of the most tedious
experiences of your life. I encourage you, as a shopper, to watch out for people like this the next
time you go

  • 2. A Documentary Analysis Of The Documentary Paris Is Burning The documentary, Paris is Burning follows individuals involved in New York s ball culture during the late 80 s and early 90 s, which included Black, Latino, gay, and transgender individuals (Green, 1993). Many of the participants in the balls lived in Houses which serve not only as a team for ball competitions, but also as a family (Green, 1993). These houses are a place of safety since many individuals are rejected by their families of origin (Green, 1993). The subjects of the film face racism, homophobia, poverty, and AIDS (Green, 1993). One of the subjects of the film, Angie Xtravaganza, died from AIDS related liver failure and another individual was murdered (Green, 1993). Some were thrown out of their homes, engage in... She had a degree in engineering, but her marriage of 25 years ended she earned a degree in counseling and works with individuals struggling with issues around gender (Nelson, 2015). She described how she gradually would let Grace out in certain areas of her life (Nelson, 2015). Stevens said that if you want to help individuals who are transitioning, simply ask them what you can do to support them (Nelson, 2015). Chloe Hollett described her experience of being transgender and seeking employment (2017). She stated that many individuals who are transgender have a difficult time finding employment, only 35% of individuals who are transgender report being employed full time (Hollett, 2017). She applied for jobs, even government positions with Democrats, often being interviewed, but was never offered employment (Hollett, 2017). Hollett and her wife decided to move to Southern California where Hollett met California State Senator Ricardo Lara (Hollett, 2017). The Senator and Hollett worked together on a bill to expand LGBTQ education in the workplace (Hollett, 2017). • 3. The Existence Of Gender Discrimination The existence of gender discrimination in workplaces is not under dispute (Acker, 2006). In virtually all societies across the world, women are known to be in a lower position in labour market than men. Women are overrepresented in positions at the bottom echelons of organisations; they have less status, prestige, power and authority on the job. Besides, women are segregated into roles and jobs that offer poorer rewards and have fewer opportunities for progression to positions of power (Walby, 1988). Women receive less pay and rewards than men, even if they work in similar jobs with similar levels of responsibility and requiring a similar level of ability (Cockburn, 1992). Although it has been argued that the poorer labour market position... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Neo classical economists explain discrimination in labour market in two ways: through the notions of the taste for discrimination and through statistical discrimination (Sawyer, 1989They argue that employers exhibit prejudices against certain groups based on their personal belief system. In the case of women, it is suggested that employers discriminate based on the belief that women are not as capable as men in certain roles. An excellent example of this is provided in a litigation case that was brought against the financial services and auditing company Pricewaterhouse Coopers (Case, 2014). Ann Hopkins took her employer to court when she was passed over for promotion in favour of a male colleague in spite of the fact that objective records showed that her performance on the job was far superior to that man s. The court found that Pricewaterhouse Coopers had discriminated against Hopkins simply because she was a woman, and they did not believe that she would be capable in the new role. Neo classical economists, however, state that this form of discrimination is logical for employers (Sawyer, 1989). This is due to the presence of uncertainty and asymmetric information, as well as the fact that employers are rational in their decision making. Although information is available in CVs, application forms, and other selection mechanisms, employers are still unable to be certain that any new employees will fully meet the criteria for ... • 4. GKE task 3 A.African Colonization Colonialism is defined in the dictionary as a policy by which a nation maintains or extends its control over foreign dependencies. African colonization is one example. Africa was oppressed by the European imperial powers in the late 19th and early 20th centuries (Parker, 2007). Unlike in other parts of the world, African colonization was short lived and the colonial period was over by the 1960s (Parker, 2007). The European scramble for territory at the end of 19th century is probably the best known occurrence in the continent s history. The involved imperial powers were Britain, France, Portugal, Germany, Italy, and Spain (Parker, 2007). These countries were competing for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (2007). Russian Revolution of 1917 The events of the Russian Revolution made dramatic changes in the world s history but it is still not clear if the First World War caused the Russian Revolution in 1917; it is obvious that domestic situations were reaching the crisis point before August 1914; state and society were tilting toward dramatic confrontation. In 1915 1916 the country was headed toward disaster economically and financially as enterprises were converting to military production when it became obvious that the war would not be over soon. There were problems with transportation, and the undersupply of raw materials. People began to voice their discontent at government s incompetence. Members of the Duma formed the political association Progressive Block that was calling for the tsar to be replaced with a government of public confidence by which they meant themselves. The pressure for the tsar s resignation was rising. The population was mobilizing itself to continue revolutionary ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. 3rd Crusades Dbq The 3rd Crusade, also known as the King s Crusade, began in the year of 1189 and ended in 1192. This crusade is considered as one of the most successful crusades. The aim of the 3rd Crusade was to recapture Jerusalem, commonly regarded as the Holy Land, from the Muslims. Saladin, the ruler of the Muslims, was the sole enemy in this military campaign. The Crusade originally began due to a religious passion by both King Henry II of England and King Philip II of France. They agreed to end their conflicts with each other in order to lead a new crusade. However, in 1189, Henry died, leaving the role of Leader of the Crusades to his successor, King Richard I of England. After his death, most of his army returned to Germany. On July 4, 1190, Richard and Philip met and set out for the Holy Land. In May of 1191, Philip of France arrived at the city of Acre. Richard arrived soon after and began to supervise the construction of weapons to assault the city. The city was captured on July 12, 1191. Due to disagreement over the ownership of the newly conquered city, Philip, who was in poor health, left with his army in August, leaving all but 10 000 soldiers behind. Soon after taking control of Acre, Richard took Jaffa, which was necessary to do before attempting an attack on Jerusalem. In November of 1191, the Crusaders advanced towards Jerusalem. • 7. Waugh Presents Change Consistently as a Destructive Force... Waugh presents change consistently as a destructive force in the novel To what extent do you agree? Within the context of pastoral literature, change is typically seen as a destructive force, intrinsic with the movement away from a harmony with the natural world towards modernisation and corruption. In Brideshead Revisited the same pattern appears to be followed; moving from the peaceful harmony of Sebastian and Charles life in Oxford into corruption and turmoil or the shifting power balance between the social classes, from the nobility to the lower classes. However, change is not exclusively a negative force in the novel. Charles and Sebastian s first encounter into Rex s world of manipulation and smooth talk is shown to be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Looking beyond Hooper, the soldier s treatment of Brideshead adds to a sense of carelessness and lack of awareness in the lower classes. The painting that Charles spent hours working on is made absolute hay of , Charles created something of wonderful beauty, only to be destroyed by unappreciative men; symbolic for the fate of Britain, in Waugh s eyes, in the hands of the Youth . In respect of the changes Sebastian makes to Charles life, Waugh presents change as the antithesis of destructive. Before Sebastian, Charles friends are described as grey figures , lifeless and colourless boys whom scrambled fiercely for facts . Scrambled brings forth images of desperation, fiercely for facts heightening the mocking tone of the description, as though they had nothing other than facts to be passionate about. The first thing Waugh mentions about Sebastian, on the other hand, is the magical day him and Charles lay underneath a tree in the country with the sweet scent of tobacco merged with the sweet scents of summer around us and the fumes of the sweet, golden wine lifting them a finger s breadth above the turf . The repetition of sweet makes this description even more sensuous as it draws upon one s sense of taste and smells simultaneously, the heavy sibilance in the phrase sweet scents making the ... • 8. The Socialization Process Of Children Through the socialization process, children learn gender roles at birth. In our society today, we buy boy infants blue and girls infants pink. We even apply these color coded gender labels while a baby is still in the womb. Gender socialization occurs through four categories: family, education, peer groups, and mass media. Each category reinforces genderroles by creating and maintaining the norm expectations for gender specific behavior. At an early age, children have an understanding that there are distinct expectations for them based off of their gender. Studies show that children are very much conscious of what gender roles are and how their role is supposedly portrayed by the age two or three; at four or five, most children are appropriately displaying their specific gender role (Kane, 1996). Most boys are given toy car, guns and action figures, all toys that promote aggression and introverted playtime. Girls are often given dolls and dress up apparel that foster nurturing, social closeness, and role play. These gender roles will continue on throughout their life. Thus creating a barrier for women and men, predominantly women to have to try to break through. Always facing scrutiny if they step outside of the gender specific spectrums society has set for them. Law enforcement, military, and politics are usually predominantly occupied by men although women tend to outnumber men in care related occupations like childcare, healthcare, and social work. • 9. Poverty And Its Effects On America When most people think of poverty they think of somewhere overseas, however; poverty is a lot closer to home than one might think. The winding, twisting roads of Eastern Kentucky have picturesque scenery, but many of the people here are struggling in these hills. The people of Eastern Kentucky have been dependent on the coalindustry to feed their families and pay their bills, but this once thriving industry has been on the decline in recent years. Without coal, Eastern Kentuckyis facing a grim future and many of its residents are struggling with the effects of losing one of their main employment opportunities. Many people in this region face poverty every day and with the prospects grim, poverty is an ongoing issue. According to Merriam Webster, poverty is defined as the state of one who lacks a usual or socially acceptable amount of money or material possessions. If you drive through many of the towns that dot the Appalachians, you will see abandoned buildings, dilapidated homes with trash littering the front yard all just commonplace in this area. Poverty is evident wherever you turn in these communities. Clay County is just one struggling area of the Appalachians. Here the median income is $22,296, barely above the poverty line. 12.7 % of Clay County s residents are unemployed, all scary statistics; since this is coal country (Lowrey, Annie).Without coal bringing in jobs like it used to, other counties in Eastern Kentucky have similar statistics that show a ... Coming of age books have characters that are trying to find themselves. Books that are in the coming of age genre have characters that deal with loneliness at some point. The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger, A Separate Peace by John Knowles, and Dead Poet s Society directed by Peter Weir all share a common theme of loneliness. Todd and Neil are the two characters that were the most lonely in Dead Poet s Society. Holden gets kicked out of school and decides to leave early and this is what he thought, I just didn t want to hang around any more. It made me too sad and lonesome (Knowles 51). Boy, I felt miserable. I felt so depressed, you can not imagine. What I did, I started talking sort of out loud, to Allie (Salinger 98). Holden is a lone wolf. He does not rely on anyone for anything. He admits that he is depressed and talks to himself which implies that he also realises that he is a loner. Another example showing Holden s loneliness is when he tells Sally, We ll stay in these cabins camps and stuff like that until the dough runs out... I could get a job somewhere and we could live somewhere with a brook and all and, later on, we could get married or something (Salinger 132). • 11. The Evolution Of Management Theory Introduction Detailed Summary Management theory constantly evolves when there are new ideas or when there is and intention of attempts of transforming the theory. Hence this theory can also be called as the condensed theory To know the history of the management theory is the fundamental task (Sarshar, 2002). The evolution of management began after the industrial revolution had occurred in Europe and America, which was in the end of the 19th century. During the evolution of the management theory, there were many major changes happening, like economic, cultural and technical. The start of the evolution of the management theory was when there was an introduction to the steam power. That was the time when the industries were built with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Scientific management theory The techniques of the scientific management theory were defined by Frederick W. Taylor. F W Taylor was a manufacturing manager, but he eventually became a consultant. He introduced four principles Principle 1: Study the way workers perform their tasks, gather all the informal jobs, knowledge that worker possess, and experiment with ways of improving how tasks are performed. Principle 2: Codify the new methods of performing tasks into written rules and standard operating procedures. Principle 3: Carefully select workers who possess skills and abilities that match the needs of the task and train them to perform according to the established rules and procedures. Principle 4: Establish a fair or acceptable level of performance for a tasks, and then develop a pay system that rewards performance about the acceptable level (Jones and George, 2003). In the 1900 s these principles were known nationally and were applied in many organisations. In some organisations the managers choose to follow only some of the principles, which led to some problems. After applying the principles the efficiency of the organisation increased, but instead of sharing the profit with the workers as specified by Taylor, the managers expected the workers to work for more hours for that same wages. After a while the workers realised that the increase in the efficiency in the firm ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Poverty in the U.S. According to a 2013 article in the Economist, the US currently boasts the highest post tax level of income inequality of any high income country in the world (Economist 2013). The nations Gini Coefficient a measure of wealth inequality currently stands at .42, well above that of other nations such as Switzerland and Sweden, which have Gini Coefficients of .31 and .33 respectively. Unfortunately this high level of income and wealth inequality is growing. Between 1979 and 2011, American earners in the top one percent saw wages increase by 113 percent, earners in the 95th percentile saw wages grow 37 percent (Fuller 2014). However, the income growth for the median worker during that same period was a mere six percent. These simple... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Without adequate health insurance, many families become burdened with healthcare debt, further tightening the shackles of poverty, and making upward mobility almost impossible. The US economy relies heavily on the middle class, and the lower class, to keep the economy growing, and to create jobs (Reich 2014a). When gains from economic growth disproportionately advantage the top one percent, the purchasing power of rest of society, especially the middle class, is diminished and they struggle to perform their necessary function. This situation disproportionately disadvantages the poor. As largely unskilled and less educated laborers, they are the first to be fired and the last to be hired. They bear the burden of declining wages and benefits. The middle class is also shrinking, and can no longer generate enough tax revenue to provide adequate education, safety nets, and family/social services for themselves and the poor. While wages, job accessibility, educational quality, and social services decline, and while income inequality grows to favor the wealthy, the income ladder gets longer and harder to climb. Upward mobility is increasingly daunting, and the shackles of poverty are growing tighter. Many conservative politicians openly deny or lack recognition of the connection between inequality and political power (Reich 2014a). However, this naГЇve and disingenuous sentiment emanates ... Essentially, Hamlet abused her to get to her father, without caring how it would directly affect Ophelia. He didn t care how his actions affected anyone else but himself. To add to Ophelia s abuse, Hamlet, during an argument with his mother, stabs Polonius. Afterwards, showing no remorse, he rehearses: Thou wretched, rash, intruding fool, farewell./I took thee for thy better. Take thy fortune./Thou find st to be too busy is some danger (III.iv.32 34). He shows no remorse for the murder of Polonius, and even less for how he killed the father of Ophelia, the girl he claims to love. This selfish act of murder, which was done impulsively without thought, would end up causing Hamlet s unfortunate end. If he hadn t of murdered Polonius, then Laertes wouldn t have wanted revenge for the death of his father. If not for the murder, Hamlet would probably still be alive. The impact of Polonius death was greater on Ophelia than on her brother. After Hamlet was sent to England, Ophelia was left alone without a father and confused from the actions of Hamlet. • 14. Light and Dark Imagery in Joseph Conrad s Heart of... Light and Dark Imagery in Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad is a novel about a man named Marlow and his journey into the depths of the African Congo. Marlow is in search of a man named Kurtz, an ivory trader. Though Marlow?s physical journey seems rather simple, it takes him further into his own heart and soul than into the Congo. The setting, symbols and characters each contain light and dark images, these images shape the central theme of the novel. Conrad uses light and dark imagery to help create the setting for the story; light represents civilization while darkness suggests the uncivilized. The river Thames is the river that brings you into Europe, civilization, while the Congo brings you into the jungle or darkness. Another important symbol in the story is the ivory. The ivory has a two fold meaning and is a central theme in the novel. Ivory is taken from the tusks of male elephants; they live in a pristine area untouched by humans. However, once the white man places a high price on the ivory, the ivory turns from good to evil. Conrad uses the ivory as a representation of the greed and corruption that is in the white mans soul. In the case of Kurtz this same greed and corruption overtook his soul, and caused his death. Each character has a special role in the novel; Kurtz and Marlow are the most important, through these two characters we are able to see how good and evil balance each other out. Marlow?s journey into the heart of darkness can also be seen as a journey into his own soul. He was in search of the darkest of objects, the ivory. Unlike Kurtz, Marlow was able to withstand the darkness from controlling him. Kurtz soul became the darkness and caused him to forget everything else there was to life. His last words were not that of love but rather of hate, ?The horrors the horrors.? Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad is a story about a man named Marlow and his Journey into the African Congo. It s a well written book for an intelligent person who wishes to be informed. The main idea or it can be called an argument that Armstrong put forth was to break the wrong image of the west about the Holy Prophet. She starts describing Muhammad s rising success as a skilled and respected politician; Armstrong mentions that the Christian world has always judged this part of the prophet s life with distrust. The Western view has traditionally seen Muhammad s political success as proof that he was an impostor using religion as a means to power. To explain this attitude, Armstrong offers the following insight: Because the Christian world is dominated by the image of the crucified Jesus, who said that his kingdom was not of this world, we tend to see failure and humiliation as the hallmark of a religious leader. We do not expect our spiritual heroes to achieve a dazzling success in mundane terms. (p. 164) Armstrong depicts Muhammad (saw) in glowing colors, even when she admits his wrongdoings. In the 8th chapter, Holy War , Armstrong recounts the massacre and summary executions of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This song was the anthem of the 70 s and still, our anthem today. Nothing compares to the harmonies and musicianship put into this song. Queen released Bohemian Rhapsody on October 31, 1975. This song was greeted like a gift from heaven in the largely desolated musical ground of the mid 70s Freddie Mercury is the writer of the song also pianist and a lead vocalist in Queen. He wrote the song in his apartment whilst he was trying to develop a complex song using a structure that leans towards a more classical approach. In the studio, the band embraced the psychedelic and progressive elements (which were initiating throughout this era) and took them to another level. Bohemian Rhapsody was nothing more than their simple their simple instrumental line up of Guitar, Bass, Piano and Drums. However, they played them like they were something completely new and in doing so; Queen delivered a new revolution of rock music. Thrown into the period of glam, it was no surprise when Queen s elegance earned them a glam rocker tag. The title of the song has a powerful ideology. The word Bohemian could be traced to the practice of an untraditional lifestyle. I believe the song has something to do with Freddie coming out as a homosexual. In that era, it was not a normal thing and therefore majority of people were against it. Interestingly enough the song has not got a chorus, but just ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Works Cited Missing Images of male homosocial and homoerotic relations pervade Athenian culture. From plays to poetry and jugs to the justice system one can find these relations represented pictorially and in words. But do all these images align with each other or are there irreconcilable differences between them? To look at this question we will take two small pieces of culture, a philosophical treatise, Plato s Symposium and the lyric poetry of Theognis and Anacreon. The erastes feels betrayed and regretful that this boy he cares for appears headed for dangerous risks implying htta he expects honorable behavior. But this is not the end of Phaedras? praise for homoerotic relations. Phaedras continues on and speaks of the things that Love can inspire men to. Though he does not confine these benefits to homosocial interactions, he does specifically include them. After stating that older men are more prone to die than be humiliated in the sight of their eromenos, he goes on to say that, ??as for abandoning his boyfriend or not helping him when danger threatens ? well, possession by love would infuse even utter cowards with courage. ? Moreover, only lovers are prepared to sacrifice themselves ? and this goes for women as well as men.? Federalists, who supported the making of a new document, the Constitution, differed from Anti federalists who believed that the new system threatened liberties and failed to protect individual rights. Anti federalist, such as Patrick Henry, James Winthrop and Samuel Adams, believed in state s rights and only urged the need of alterations to the Articles of Confederation rather than dispose of it. Likewise, several arguments arose including the issue of slavery, the duties of the Supreme Court, but majorly the Bill of Rights. The Bill of Rights is the general name for the first ten amendments in United States Constitution. These were proposed to alleviate the fears of Anti Federalists; furthermore, well known Founding Fathers disputed that the Constitution should not be ratified because it failed to protect the basic principles of human liberty. Contrastingly, Hamilton and Madison alike disagreed with the beliefs of the Anti federalists and believed that the Constitution did not need a Bill of Rights; it would create a parchment barrier that limited the rights of the people, as opposed to protecting them. Purpose The purpose of the experiment was to determine which method of agitation, either shaking, stirring, whisking, or blending, produced the largest mass of milk fat. Background InformationProducing butter is a task that can easily be done at home. Butter is one of the most highly concentrated forms of fluid milk that is made simply by agitating heavy cream (Douma, 2008). There are several methods of agitation, including shaking, stirring, whisking, and blending. In this experiment, all four methods were used to determine which mixing method produced the most milk fat or butter. First of all, in order to understand the making of butter, one must be familiar with milk and its composition. The components of milk include 87% water, 4% fat, 5% sugar or lactose, 2.6% casein, .7% albumen, and .7% ash (Ross, 1914). Milk is an emulsion, which is a type of colloid. A colloid is a homogenous mixture in which large molecules are suspended throughout another substance. Under this category, there are also two types of emulsions: oil droplets in water or water droplets in oil (BBC, 2014). Milk is an example of an emulsion of evenly distributed fat particles throughout water. In this experiment, heavy cream was used because it contains a greater concentration of fat particles in water. However, in order to keep the particles from separating, emulsifiers are needed to stabilize the mixture (Institute of Food ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This quote from Theodore Roosevelt illustrates how corporate money can be disastrous when entangled in elections. Unfortunately, the United States continues to grant large corporations the ability to donate to campaigns, leading to a corrupt campaign system. The Supreme Court decided in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission that companies and Super PAC s can donate an unlimited amount of money to endorse candidates. The Citizens United ruling has caused increased political corruption in the United States by giving candidates the money they need to win an election while changing policies that would be beneficial to their corporate donors and not the American people. Pre Citizens United There were several landmark Supreme Court cases and laws before Citizens United that attempted to regulate campaign contributions. Political corruption is easily caused by immense sums of funds going to a candidate. A candidate will be more likely to benefit corporate interests because that will allow them access to more capital later to help in reelection efforts. This becomes problematic because average citizens do not have the capacity to donate large sums of money to a candidate. A large corporation s speech is thus, worth far more than the average citizen. Don Raskin in his book, The Dirty Little Secrets of Getting Your Dream Job, opens up his ideology regarding this subject with a much more optimistic mentality. This involves having a legitimate and well thought out cover letter, resume, and email letter note. Raskin even breaks down the resume and what he looks for in applicants. The resume is single handedly the most important part of the application process aside from the interview and what comes after, and he breaks it down step by step in order for you to understand what it is you need to do. He even emphasizes that the interest and activities portion of the resume is an often overlooked but important part that tells the employers about the human being that s applying for the job. Over the past few decades, economists were continually developing a variety of asset pricing models. The Myers Briggs Type Indicator Essay The Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a self report personality assessment developed by Katharine Cook Briggs and Isabel Briggs Myers based on the typological personality theory of Carl Jung. The MBTI is comprised of four dichotomous nominal scales: Introversion/Extroversion, Sensing/Intuition, Thinking/Feeling, Judgment/Perception. These four scales assign individuals one of sixteen personality types. While the measures of the MBTI themselves are taxonomies, the assigned personality type is a typology meaning, an INTP is not an introverted ENTP, but an entirely different personality all together. The MBTI is commonly used in career counseling, with associated best fit careers for each MBTI type. The MBTI is also one of the best well known personality assessments in the public consciousness. However, the actual practical applications of the MBTI in psychological research is unclear. While the Myers Briggs Type Indicatorcontinues to be a major pop psychology personality assessment, there has been much debate about the MBTI s actual usefulness for predicting behaviors in a variety of psychology research. An analysis of the MBTI s reliability and validity (namely construct, content, and criterion validity) reveals that while the MBTI does have other useful applications primarily in workplace team building and facilitating communication the measure does not hold up to scrutiny in research applications; research into the typological aspects of the MBTI has been ... • 46. The History And Political Causes Of The Cold War The Cold War refers to an era of U.S. history from roughly 1945 to 1990. Although the U.S.S.R. and the U.S. fought ideological proxy wars in Vietnam, Korea, and Afghanistan, this era is referred to as the Cold War because the United States and Soviet Union never actually engaged in war themselves. The origins of the Cold Warcan be traced back to the finale of World War II. Beginning with the Yalta Conference, the Allied powers of the Soviet Union, United States, and Great Britain started a discussion concerning post war foreign policies. Specifically, the political system of Poland became an important question for the Big Three . Should Poland be allowed to form a democratically elected government, or should Russia be allowed to occupy Poland and further expand their communist influence? Essentially, this question and many like it characterized the motivation for the Cold War. The United States sought to contain communism while the Soviet Union pushed for both land expansion and political influence across the globe. (CITE) Harry Truman took the office of President just a few months before the end of World War II. Truman inherited a plethora of dilemmas heading into the post War World II era, and he decided to take his stance on international affairs in 1947 with the Truman Doctrine. Essentially, the Truman Doctrine promised that America would personally intervene in order to insure that democracy would remain secure in foreign governments. This was a stark contrast from the popular isolationist paradigm of the 20s and 30s. Furthermore, the Truman Doctrine prompted an unusual act of international involvement when Congress agreed to aid Greek and Turkish militaries in an effort to counter communist influence in these regions. Additionally, Truman s handling of the Korean War is another example of his firm stance of containment. Truman made no qualms about aiding the indigenous troops of South Korea with weapons and troops, but he did openly reject the notion of meeting either China or the Soviet Union in an open land battle. Furthermore, Truman fired General Douglas MacArthur based on the general s strong notion to invade China and reluctance to respect the President s authority. Truman s decisions ...
