2. Turkeys In The Kitchen Analysis
Turkeys in the kitchen by Dave Barry, A Plague of Tics by David Sedaris. Both essays cover two
very different subjects Dave Barry s essay covers sexism as he chose Thanksgiving dinner prep
as the focus point so that he can point out how a simple family gathering is one the most sexist
events that happens throughout a year. While David Sedaris takes place in his youth, right
away you can tell that young David is plagued with severe OCD and not the cleaning kind. His
essay starts out with his teacher scolding him for licking the light switches in the classroom, and
he doesn t understand why he gets in trouble for it. Both essays are done very well and both are
connected by humor. Dave Barry on sexism and David Sedaris on mental illness but David
Sedairs s in my opinion is the better essay. Although Dave Barry covers sexism and he makes it
very humorous and has a lot of very strong points that happens every single day, and A Plague of
Tics by David Sedaris is like the retelling of a very sad childhood plagued by uncomfortable
moments, humiliation and urges that he cannot control and covers it up with humor. That is
why I choose A Plague of Tics by David Sedaris as the stronger essay even though Turkeys in the
Kitchen by Dave Barry is short sweet and to the point, and I understood exactly what he was
trying to say. A Plague of Tics by David Sedaris is long winded, over detailed and left me slightly
confused. Now David s essays takes place in 1967 in Raleigh, North Carolina normally third
graders are between the ages of eight and ten so the date is not exact. Young David is being
scolded by his teacher Miss Chestnut for getting up during class 28 times to lick the light
switch, pencil sharpener and among other things. She decides to send a note home with David
to tell his mother that she will be visiting to talk about his behavior. While this takes place, there
is another form of a power struggle going on inside a young David s head his OCD is whispering
to him that he needs to do abnormal things such as smack the heel of his shoe to his forehead.
Now back in the mid 1960s OCD had yet to be categorized as a mental disorder normally the
embarrassment when someone does these abnormal actions tends to

3. Al Jazeer A New Imperative Of Competition
In the last decade of the 20th century, Al Jazeera is constructing a new imperative of
competition in the news industry (Radsch, 2007: 1). Ever since Al Jazeera assists system
changes in situation where political movement are dynamic and political transformation process
begun to unfold, there is increment of audiences who turn to Al Jazeera as their first news
choice (Jamal, 2009 Radsch, 2007). In 2008, Boyd Barrett and Xie claimed that Al Jazeera has
an estimation of 50 million audiences worldwide from its various channels such as the original
international service, a news channel broadcasting 24 hours in Arab language; Al Jazeera Sports
1 and 2; a children s channel; a documentary channel, and Al Jazeera Mobasher, a live political
and public interest channel similar to C SPAN or BBC that broadcasts conferences in real time
without editing or commentary. Moreover, Al Jazeera has soon open up a vast array of medium
for news such as online press, social media, and citizen journalismon Internet which emerged as an
alternative to mainstream press (Radsch, 2007; Hafez, 2008: 333; Nötzold, 2009: 4). Not to forget
its first privately own satellite TV. Thus, this has eventually intensified the competition among news
producers whereby the journalists aim to tailor a better coverage especially on satellite stations to
attract audiences who have short attention span (Radsch, 2007: 7). For instance, the Egyptian
government launched Nile News after seeing the appearance of

5. Cyytoprotective Role Of DJ-1, Mitophagy And Cell Death
DJ 1 protects against mtDNA damage, mitophagy and cell death. DJ 1 is a multifunctional
protein that protects cells from oxidative stress via several molecular processes including
regulating gene transcription, mediating cell signal transduction pathways, stabilizing
cytoprotective proteins and scavenging ROS (3). DJ 1 is expressed in human primary alveolar
type II cells (preliminary data) and we have recently postulated that plays a role in the antioxidant
defense system in the lung (REF). The importance of DJ 1 can be supported by several
observations. First, DJ 1 mutations are pathogenic (4), second, oxidation of cysteine and
methionine residues within DJ 1 was reported as a sensor of its activity (5) and third, the novel

Research Plan
Preliminary Results
Isolation of human primary ATII cells.
We will isolate ATII cells from de identified control organ donors whose lungs were not suitable
for transplantation and donated for medical research through Temple Biobank in collaboration with
Dr. Gerard Criner (Temple University, letter attached) as we previously described (7, 9, 10). For
ATII cellisolation, we used magnetic microbeads (Miltenyi, Biotec Inc.) and epithelial cell
adhesion molecule (Ep CAM) positive selection. Purified ATII cells display about 90% purity as
detected by staining with pro surfactant protein C (proSP C) and ATII280, which are specific ATII
cell markers (Fig. 2). In this grant proposal, we plan to use ATII cells isolated from at least 12 non
smoker and 12 smoker control lung donors and 12 patients with emphysema (GOLD IV). Lung
tissue from individuals with this disease will be obtained in collaboration with Dr. Criner.
DJ 1 Cys106 SO3 in patients with emphysema. Initial proof of concept studies were performed in
ATII cells obtained from patients with emphysema in comparison with control lung donors. We
found high expression of DJ 1 Cys106 SO3 in ATII cells obtained from individuals with this disease
using a specific DJ 1 antibody (AbDSerotec; Fig. 3). The presence of this DJ 1 form was
confirmed by mass spectrometry analysis; and we did not find this modification in control ATII

Those who lived there faced similar problems to the people from Packingtown. The steel
industry was in high demand because of the architecture advancements in skyscrapers and
railroads. Again, the Poles found themselves in the blast furnace department as unskilled
workers (Pacyga 87). It wasn t that they were not skilled, it was the language barrier keeping
them from higher pay. As generations passed, English became their second language, and they
were able to obtain skilled jobs. For those that did not speak English, the working conditions
were difficult. For the Poles working in the furnace, it was the unbearable heat that proved to be
the worst. Lung disease was another common health factor. Frequent accidents were also a great
problem with the steel industry. Many cases were taken to court, but the liability was hard to
prove (Pacyga 91). Falling objects, suffocation, and electrocution caused serious accidents and
even death. Eventually the steel corporations released a safety program promoting the wellbeing
of steelworkers. The safety and welfare programs of the steel companies were also an economic
success. The workforce became more stable and efficient (Pacyga 97). It was a huge improvement
for both the workers and the industry alike. At that point, Steel City was the best place to live. The

7. Analysis Of A Bowling Essay
Bowling There are a lot of steps for bowling. The very first step is to find your weight of the
bowling ball and your shoe size. When you start bowling every person is different on where they
need to stand at and how far back or how far forward. By the time you bowl for a while you will
find out on where you need to stand. I stand on the left by the second dot and throw my ball on
the second arrow on the right. People that bowl with straight balls stand in the middle and just
throw it down the lane. When I first started bowling I just threw a ball down the lane. But now I
throw a curveball that comes back inside. So what that all means I can stand on the left and
throw it on the right side of the lane and if the timing is all right it will come back and it will
come right into the pocket. I m sure all of you guys are wondering what the pocket means and what

A straight ball is where the ball stays in one spot of doesn t move at all unless the lanes are really
dry then it will hook. A curve ball moves no matter what and if the lanes are dry the curve ball will
hook extremely. So that is the difference between the two different types of bowling balls. The
object of bowling is to knock down as many pins as possible. For High School bowling you bowl
two individuals games and the five bakers. The most common baker style is to be the 5 person
format where bowler 1 bowls frames 1 and 6, bowler 2 bowls frames 2 and 7, bowler 3 bowls
frames 3 and 8, bowler 4 bowls frames 4 and 9 and bowler 5 bowls frames 5 and 10. The order is
set at the beginning of the match but can be changed after the completion of each game. So
these are the pretty basic steps I do when I bowl. And you guys may think bowling is a hard
sport to be good at but it just takes time. It took me like three years to get pretty good at it. It s a
pretty competitive sport if you bowl the right

imagine his subtle colour mixing and careful balancing of colour and tone. He used colour not to

12. Health And Safety At The Workplace
Health and Safety in the Workplace The health and safety in the workplace for workers has created
a continual concern in the United States since the country was discovered. Although, a healthy and
safe work environment can be described as a work area free of health risks and absent unsafe
conditions. Indeed, the definition encompasses additional legal, moral, ethical issues. Particularly,
reporting safety issues rather than choosing to ignore them, refusing to fall under peer pressure or
fear of retaliation, not accepting bribes and making the conscious decision to report violators of the
rules. Initially, certain accidents and injuries within industries were accepted and considered a
consequence of the job, eventually workers became less accepting of inadequate working
conditions began demanding safer work environments. Therefore, numerous labor unions and
organizations formed throughout the history of the United States intended to resolve and mediate
issues between employees and employers, including the health and safety of the workers in the
workplace. Nevertheless, in an effort to avoid confusion on the accountability of employee health
and safety in the workplace the author of this paper has examined the separate entities of OSHA,
employers and employees. Although, a minute majority of workers believe that OSHA exclusively
is responsible for ensuring the health and safety of workers in the workplace; the alternative belief
is that it is the individual responsibility of

Types of Conflicts in Short Stories
Short story writing literature is a very important art and has been around for long time. Every
short story will consist of five different elements. These are as follows: Setting, Plot, Character,
Point of View and Theme. In this essay, we are going to discuss three of these stories and try to
look at them from different perspectives. We will be considering the elements of the stories and
how the writers expressed that. We are going to discuss the different phases and changes that each
character in these three different stories from the beginning until the end with some highlight on
the events and conflicts that lead to these changes. We will start with A Letter from Gaza by
Ghassan Kanafani, then After Twenty Years by O. Henry and last will be The Scarlet Ibis by J.
Hurst. I will give a summarizing overall conclusion at the end of this essay.

5.0 What are the responsibilities and actions of government and their agencies?
Almost all petroleum is owned by the Government and not the landowner. For example, the NSW
Government has the power to authorise exploration and removal of petroleum from land
individually owned or otherwise. Before CSG operations can commence CSG companies require 3
separate titles from the state Minister for Resources and Energy in order to access petroleum under
private land. In addition, some form of development consent is often needed. Other approvals are
sometimes necessary before a CSG project can commence. For example, the NSW Minister for the
Environment or the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) may require a pollution licence.
The NSW Government has introduced multiple regulations and pieces of legislation in order to
protect many of the state s industries including agriculture, fisheries and horticulture from the
effects of coal seam gas activities. Established by the Land and Environment Court Act 1979 The
Land and Environment Court covers appeals in regards to environmental planning, pollution
control, local government and land valuation. The Court has major implications for public
participation in environmental matters because it allows third party appeals and actions, and it
encourages resolution of conflicts. Third party rights mean that people whose land is not directly

Democracy and civility go hand in hand; without democracy, there wouldn t be civility and

Albert Bandura, a renowned psychologist, studied how some behaviors are learned through
imitation. He calls this the social learning theory. It is exemplified in his classic experiment
called the Bobo Doll Experiment. The children participating in the experiment were individually
shown into a room with toys and then played with them for 10 minutes while either, 1) 24
children (12 girls and 12 boys) watched a male or female model behaving aggressively toward a
toy called a Bobo Doll . The adults attacked the Bobo doll in a distinctive manner, either
punching or kicking and in some cases using a hammer. 2) Another 24 children were exposed to
a non aggressive model who played in a quiet and subdued manner for 10 minutes. 3) The final 24
children were used as a control group and were not exposed to any model at all (McLeod, 2011). In
order to study whether these three situations had a different effect on the children, the experimenter
subjected all the children to mild aggression arousal (McLeod, 2011) by taking each child
separately to a room with toys. Once the child began to play with the toys, the experimenter told
the child that these were the experimenter s best toys and she had decided to reserve them for the

18. Pros And Cons Of Prince Hamlet
Would anybody that is truly insane ever actually claim to others that he or she is insane (or

Most likely not, as such a person probably would not be able to realize the extent of his or her
delusion on his or her own, and therefore would stubbornly deny that he or she is in fact crazy.
Furthermore, would any truly mad individual ever, if given a relatively easy opportunity to take
his or her revenge against someone who had committed great wrongs against him or her (and
therefore caused the individual to fall into insanity in the first place), take the time to evaluate the
pros and cons of taking revenge at that time as Prince Hamletdid while his hated uncle Claudius

Hamlet s purposefully disheveled appearances before his former love Ophelia, his playful
conversation with Ophelia s father (and Claudius s adviser and lackey) Polonius, and his actions
after his murder of Polonius, seem to show that the madness displayed by Hamlet during several
key parts of Williams Shakespeare s famous tragic play Hamlet was not real, but feigned. Despite

19. How Did The Unification Of Italy Lead To Italian Unification
Before 1815, the Italian Peninsula had not been unified since the fall of the Roman Empire and
cultural divisions made it difficult for the Italian people to gain unity again.
Groups in several Italian states began to push the idea of a unified country but Italy went through
many obstacles attempting to unify and become what we know as Italy today.
Italy was divided into competing states which made it difficult for the people because they
considered themselves a part of their city, not as part of a bigger Italy. Secondly, The Congress of
Vienna divided Italy up among Austria, Hapsburg, and the French. Finally, Nationalist revolts were
continually crushed by Austria. The weak national feeling that the people of Italy were feeling was
because they found it difficult to identify with Italy as a country and still felt one with their
individual cities. The Tuscans of Florence, the Venetians of Venice, and the Neapolitans of Naples.

Sitting back and watching the destruction of our youth is very disconcerting. We need to take back
our youth from the streets, clubs, and gangs. There has been a sort of disconnect with the way
youths are being raised because, parents can no longer spank their kids when they do wrong.
Society has decided that spankingwas too harsh and that parents needed to find other ways to
discipline their children. Spanking is a type of corporal punishmentthat is commonly used to
discipline children. Without producing any physical injury, the parent will normally strike the child

condones violence because he received a spanking. When that is not the case, most children that
receives a spanking knows what they did was wrong and they should not do those things again.
Spanking is not a form of violence but a form of discipline that helps parents keep their children
in line. Those parents that believes in spanking, most comes from a Christian background. It is
widely believed the God commands them to spank for the wrongdoing. The Christians knows in
the Bible it says in Proverbs 19:18 Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare
for his crying . So, therefore they have no problems spanking the children for their misdeeds. The
parents who does not believe in spanking, thinks that other forms of punishment such as time out is
effective. Contrary to popular believe, that may work for some but not all. There has to be a
middle ground somewhere. Some parents thinks that giving a child stern talk will also help. There

21. Five Skin Disorders Analysis
The five skin disorders that I learned in class and on healthcommunities.com were lice, eczema,
psoriasis, ulcers, and wound care. Below I am going to explain the five disorders. Lice Starting of I
would aware the patient that anyone can get it, no matter how clean they are. I would also, as a
medical assistant, explain to them the different treatments. Letting the patient know to not share
combs, pillows, brushes, etc. is very important. Also letting them know to only use medication as
prescribed is important. Eczema As a medical assistant I would explain the condition. Let them
know it is not contagious. Make the patient aware that there s several types and treatments for
eczema, and to explain it. Lastly let the patient know that

22. Summary Of Jesse Smiles A Small Grin
Jesse smiles another small grin. I asked how you found your way into theatre.
The waiter interrupts, and they order drinks, and Casey orders spaghetti with meatballs and Jesse
has the same, hold the meatballs. Casey scans his brain for reasons why, but then he figures he
should answer Jesse s question, so: I was actually born in Cali. My father is American, and Mum s
British, but when I was well, the times then, it wasn t too great in California, so we moved to the
UK.
Jesse looks like he s figuring something out in his head when he interrupts, The war started.
Casey nods. It wasn t brilliant foresight on their part, but who saw anything coming? Thinking
about that time makes him think about the smells in London, the rubble, the destruction then
living with it for many years after the war. It s painful, it ll probably always be so, but he forges

23. Populism And Propaganda
It was not until the waning months of the War that Americans first began to learn about the
Holocaust. As Allied soldiers advanced through Germany, they discovered camps filled with
starving undesirables, primarily Jews, as well as the instruments of death on an industrial scale.
This horrifying discovery gave Americans a kind of moral justification for the war that they
sacrificed their labor, loved ones, and lives in. To a people already shocked numb from the
continued and unabating death and destruction of the previous six years, this uncovering of evil on
such a massive scale cemented in the hearts of the world a desire to prevent such a global injustice
from happening again. It is worth remembering the circumstances surrounding the rise of extremist
hatred and nationalism that inspired the War and made possible the Holocaust. Eighty five years

We must all promote a culture of compassion and reason, through education, appropriate political
discourse, and a structuring of our media that prevents the effective dissemination of propaganda.
The rise of populism around the world makes the aggressive promotion of these values even more
urgent. Populism is not inherently bad nor good, but it is a very powerful political force, and not
likely to relent without significant changes to the political order as we know it. As Bernie Sanders
and Donald Trump demonstrated in America and the Syriza and Golden Dawn parties
demonstrated in Greece, populism can take very different forms. We must not let popular unrest
become a vehicle for hate and for the degradation of democratic values, as it was in the years
leading up to the War. Now more than ever, our commitment to human rightsmust not be forgotten:
too much is at stake to risk repeating

24. Themes Of The Time Machine
Once in my basketball game, my team was losing by many points. However, we never gave up
and started to make a comeback. The crowd was getting louder as the final seconds approached.
There was 2 seconds left, and Julien Flores shot the ball. Swoosh. We had won the game because
we never gave up. Persevering through obstacles is the major theme in H.G. Wells novel titled, The
Time Machine. This novel is about a time traveler who traveled far into the future and encountered
strange humanoid creatures. The world was very different and another species called the Morlocks
had stolen his Time Machine. The Time Traveler persevered through this and he eventually got his
Time Machine back and he travelled back home.
An example of the main theme in The Time Machine being how you should persevere through
obstacles is found on page 104 and H.G. Wells states, So I came back. For a long time I must
have been insensible upon the machine. This evidence show show the main theme of the Time
Machine is that you should never give up because the Time Traveler has been trying to get home
for a long time and he never gave up. He was eventually able to get home and this shows how
since the time traveler was able to get home because he persevered, the main theme in the novel
is that you should never give up. Another piece of evidence that H.G. Wells includes is on page 1

Introduction This work will use epidemiology triangle and its fundamentals in examining teenage
pregnancy. This issue remains the only preventable problem in most countries because it is not a
disease and none transmittable. However, it is a major problem affecting the younger generation.
There is a major controversy in defining epidemiology, and most people misinterpret the definition.
Research carried out indicates that most people have a negative perception on epidemiology. Some
people consider epidemiology as the worst course in medical school. Others assert that
epidemiology entails the science of engaging in incomprehensible matters. The responses collected
is disclosed that even epidemiology experts misapprehend the issue (Langille, 2007). To illuminate
some light on this issue, Dotinga (2008) defined epidemiology as the survey of the distribution and
factors of health based issues in particular populations, and use of this survey to manage health
problems. A simple definition of epidemiology is observing the variation between a health
professional and an epidemiology expert. A health care expert examines and diagnoses the patient
and decides the best form of treatment that suits the person. The epidemiologist analyzes the entire
population and intervenes to control the health problems. Teen pregnancy fits in here in public
health (Background on Teenage Pregnancy). Researchers use various approaches, tools and
methods in analyzing epidemiology. The main approach

27. Yeats Sailing To Byzantium Analysis
Not a Country for the Old
(A discussion on three messages from Yeats Sailing to Byzantium.)
William Butler Yeats was a poet of the twentieth century, a time of change with world wars,
revolutions, technology change, and much more. William Yeats is considered the most important
poet of the twentieth century. The Irish poet and dramatist William Butler Yeats(1865 1939) was
perhaps the greatest poet of the 20th century. He won the Nobel Prize for literature in 1923 and
was the leader of the Irish Literary Renaissance (Gale). Yeats started his career with plays, and
eventually moved to poetry. Poetry gave him a loud voice to express what he wanted. One of his
most remembered pieces of work is Sailing to Byzantium. In Yeats s Sailing to Byzantium three
messages are displayed.
In Sailing to Byzantium, William Yeats expresses the message of young people only being
interested in the present. When people are young they are inexperienced and dumb. Yeats
acknowledges this idea in his poem and explains the idea that being young is fun, young people
like to be together, or in love. He realizes young people are only interested in the present and
nothing else. Caught in that sensual music all neglect, monuments of unaging intellect (1). Yeats
explains that the old will try and give wisdom to the young, but it s useless because the young
doesn t wish to listen. The young are too busy living life to the fullest, to sit down and listen to the
words of a wise old man. Yeats

28. Examples Of Cognitive Dissonance
Cognitive dissonance
An Example of cognitive dissonance is that at my house, my cats can sometimes be tough to see
when you are walking, and thus people end up stepping on them or kicking them. The cognitive
dissonance here would be that people often like to say your cat walked into my path or your cat
tried to trip me. When this happens people are having two conflicting views at the same exact time,
theory often suggests that the brain wants to eliminate dissonance whenever possible. The brain
does this by changing the way you feel about or perceive certain things, or in other words, changing
your attitudes and beliefs. So instead of just admitting they made a mistake in kicking the cat and
feeling apologetic, people use cognitive dissonance to turn the situation into the cat s fault for
getting in their way, thus making them feel better about themselves.
Rationalization
By far the most common rationalization I hear is when people don t get into a school they really
wanted to, or don t get a job they want, and then proceed to say something like That s ok, I didn t
want to go there anyway or It s fine, that school wasn t the place for me . Rationalizations are often

In a controlled experiment, how is a plants growth affected by its surroundings? Environmental

affect each other? If there are three Viola odorata s in a container, then they will grow faster and
more efficiently compared to a container holding nine Viola odoratas whereas they would most
likely absorb more water and other environmental factors.
A Viola odorata is an annual plantthat is also known as a sweet violet Wellsiana . These plants

This is not to be confused with plant fertilization which is a common mistake. For normal growth
plants are in need of these eighteen elements: hydrogen, carbon, and oxygen which are found in air
and water. The next six elements are known as macronutrients: nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus,
calcium, sulfur, and magnesium which are found in soil. The last nine elements are called the
micronutrients: iron, zinc, molybdenum, nickel, manganese, boron, copper, cobalt, and chlorine
which are found in the soil. All these elements are crucial. Majority of the plants nutrients are
dissolved in water and immersed by the roots. Active absorption is important and essential for the
plant to grow healthy, but the nutrients can be absorbed passively. Some factors that may affect the
absorption of nutrients throughout the roots are the soil pH, type of ion, solubility of ion pairs,
oxygen, water, soil, sugar supply, temperature, and plant stress.
In conclusion, if a container holds a total of three Viola odorata s and absorb more water and other
environmental factors that contribute to plant growth and development, then they will grow faster
and more efficiently than a container that carries nine Viola odorata s that will take in less water,
sunlight, and nutrients since they are all fighting for it. The fact that all the environmental factors
play such a key role in plant growth signifies their importance and the very reason that plants would

There are many objects that society uses today in their everyday lives that often go unnoticed and
unappreciated. One of those many objects would be the hairbrush. Everyone uses a hairbrush;
people have them in their homes, somewhere hidden in their car, or even at the bottom of their
purses. Numerous people, mostly women, own multiple hairbrushes without realizing it.
Consequently, no one knows how important this object is, yet it being so frequently used. The
common hairbrush, although taken for granted, is a household item that dates back to 1898, which
consists of a variety to choose from, and can deflect self confidence if not used. Lyda A. Newman

women s suffrage activists (Lyda Newman Biography). Newman s motive for the inventionof the

37. Atheism Research Paper
Atheism is defined as the belief that divine beings do not exist. Atheists often dispute that atheism
is human s natural state of mind (Greywood). The prefix a , meaning without, and the root theism ,
meaning a belief in divine beings, consequently creates the word s definition: without belief in
divine beings (Sexton). Why do some hold this view in a world that is mostly religious? Perhaps to
answer such a question one should explore and venture to know it. Though first introduced in a
sophisticated and educated manner in Ancient Greek schools of thought, to an atheist s point of
view, atheistic thinking has existed since the first intelligent species of humanoids (Greywood).
Atheists assert that humans are naturally unaware of any divine beings unless indoctrinated about
subjects that correlate with tales of divinity.Throughout history, atheists transitioned from being the
loathed members of society to existing peacefully in society. In Middle Aged Europe any openly,

40. Globalisation And Globalization
The world today is more globalised than ever before, with people, technologies and ideas migrating
across borders in increasingly large numbers. These movements are a powerful force for change,
and raise important questions among anthropologists about how culture, community and conflict
have changed in response to globalisation. In this essay, I argue that while the nature of
globalisation has changed over the years, it has consistently been a driver of internal conflictand
societal change. Two case studies are utilised, from India and Peru, to demonstrate how
globalisation introduces new ideas and opportunities that challenge existing power structures,
identities, values and cultural norms. This, in turn, leads to my final argument that in the process of
trying to prevent change, many leaders actually deepens existing social fractures which ultimately
results in conflict and inevitable social, political, economic and cultural transformation.
Throughout human history there has been a continuous tradition of trade and investment across
territories and cultures. European imperialism represents a significant early example of
globalisation, and the process has increased exponentially in the centuries since. Several events
contributed to a period of period of hyper globalisation since the start of the twentieth century, such
the collapse of the Soviet Union and reintegration of Soviet and East Asian nations into the global

areas are competing and avoiding. As a speech/theatre major, the topic of conflict resolution isn t
new to me. I ve done many reflection papers just like this one and have taken many similar

When it comes to conflict resolution I would like to think that I fit a few categories rather than

somewhat versatile at least. I know for certain that I don t avoid conflict, and I can be extremely

44. The Romanov s Revolutionary Attempt At Modernizing Russia
Russian Revolution We no longer have a Tsar. Today a river of blood divides him from the
Russian people. It is time for the Russian workers to begin the struggle for the people s freedom
without him. For today I give you my blessing. Tomorrow I shall be with you. Today I am busy
working for our cause . Russian Priest, Father Georgy Gapon, conveys his thoughts in a letter read
at the meeting of liberals, after the tragic petition of Bloody Sunday. The Romanov s dynasty
attempt at modernizing Russialed to the cause of their usurping. The changes they applied during
their reigns resulted in protests and uprisings of the peasants. The emancipation edict of 1891
created a great number of unemployed civilians; as population was increasing during... Show more

Threatened by the event Bloody Sunday, Tsar Nicholas II faced the choice of military dictatorship
or granting a new constitution. In the end, he determined to write a new constitution called the
October Manifesto. Issued and signed by the Tsar, he promised to guarantee civil liberties as his last
venture to continue his family s history of unlimited autocracy. When the document was signed, it
rested the anger most Russian civilians had for their Tsar. Although, the public was not pleased
when it came to their attention that the Duma could not initiate legislation and Tsar would
continuously dissolve the Dumas when they opposed him. One can see the contrast between the
Tsar s doing and his peoples needs, even after protests. In conclusion, the indifference brought upon
the monarchy s abdication and advanced in the outcome of the Bolshevik

45. The History Of Motown Music
Rising into the mainstream in the early 1960 s, Motown music gained popularity as it produced a
wave of African American musicians who successfully integrated their music, creating a newly
unified musical culture between White and Black Americans. Simultaneously Motown provided
musical backing for an extensive battle of cultural change in the USA; the American Civil Rights
Movement. Berry Gordy, the founder of MotownRecords produced music with the aim to sell to
anyone despite their age or colour. The revolutionary processes and features of the Motown
Machine produced socially conscious, straightforward and all rounded music and artists. This has
been one prominent influence that Motown has provided to the production of contemporary music...

Every artist had a different focus, style, look and sound. Marvin Gaye began his run at Motown
records as an in house drummer for recordings. He was then promoted by Gordy to record his
own tracks. The first of his solo tracks was called Hitch Hike a dance hit which was highly
successful. It was traditional in regards to the Motown sound, with catchy lyric phrases. Hitch
hike, now hitch a hike, it s all right hitch hike Jenny (Gaye, Stevenson, Paul: 1962) However, as
Gaye s career continued to progress through Motown records, he continued to be influenced by
progressive issues which were channeled in his music. In 1971, Gaye s first concept album was
released titled What s Going On , the song featured the hit track of the same name. Both the
single and the title became highly recognized due to their reference to the 1965 Watts Riots.
Marvin Gaye explained his feelings hearing about the riots saying My stomach got real tight and
my heart started beating like crazy. I wanted to throw the radio down and burn all the...songs I d
been singing.... Why didn t our music have anything to do with this? Motown s ability to write
about real life circumstances and provide a new educated generation of listeners. It created
another layer to the label s impact on the music industry. Branching away from dance hits What s
Going On was a personal reflection of a political incident experienced nationally, with large
emotional impact. Perhaps the most popular contemporary political song is P!NK s Dear Mr.
President. The song criticised the decisions of George W. Bush during his presidency. In
particular, the song targeted American involvement in the Iraq War and the lack of support for
lower and middle class Americans. The song was not released in the USA as P!NK did not wish
for it to be seen as a publicity stunt. However, the

46. How Did The San Andreas Fault Resulted In A Major Earthquake
San Andreas portrays an interpretation of potential events that are feasible if the San Andreas fault
resulted in a major earthquake. Although the movie s creators and directors dramatized or
intensified facts regarding earthquakes and events that would commonly occur in the midst of an
earthquake for entertainment purposes, the information presented regarding events that could occur
during and following an earthquakewas generally accurate. However, there was inaccurate
information presented in the film. Accurate information provided during the film pertained to
safety procedures to follow during an earthquake and events that occur during and following
earthquakes. When the earthquake began, a woman stood in a doorway and a scientist advised

47. A Research Study On Moravian College
The Lehigh Valley is home to Allentown,Bethlehem, and Easton, as well as educational institutions
such as Moravian College; in short, the Lehigh Valley, specifically Bethlehem is known for its
diversity. In this research paper I will focus on Moravian College, its population and their
interaction with each other when they are walking around the campus. In this research, I anticipate
that while observing men and women of similar ages, men will tend to be more distracted and
focused on just one topic, while women will be walking closer to each other and talking about
multiple subjects. Both men and female will follow certain social norms that they were born into
without realizing it. For this observation, I hypothesize that men will most... Show more content on

During this time of the day, there were many men and women also know as college students
walking to their dorms with a group of friends and peers. To my own advantage, I was able to sit
on a hammock which gave me the perfect view to see men and women come from different
directions. In other words, it was rather easy to identify sidewalk behavior without making it
obvious that I was making such observations. In this first attempt, in order to come up with the
correct data, I counted all the men and all the women who were walking down the hill into their
dorms, the number of single groups, the mixed groups, and everyone who was walking alone.
Because no one noticed that I was observing their sidewalk behavior they didn t do anything that
would have affected my conclusion and data. Additionally, the second and final observation of
my research took place in front of the Haupert Union Building otherwise known as the HUB.
This observation took place on Tuesday, September 29,2015. The observation began at 7:00AM
and concluded at 7:30AM. As many may or may not already know, Tuesdays are lab days for half
of the student body at Moravian College , which means that this observation lacked the presence of
students and as a consequence my data might have been affected by such student absence. To

49. Density And Sg By Hydrometer Method
Density and SG by Hydrometer Method
Objective
The purpose of this practical is to determine the specific gravity and density of samples of
methylated spirit of different concentrations, using a hydrometer.
Introduction
Theory
Specific gravity (SG) is defined as the ratio between the density of a liquid to the density of water
at a temperature of 4oC and pressure of 1 atm. It is of great importance when quoting the
specific gravity of a substance to refer to the temperature and pressure at which the measurement
was taken, especially because the density of water tends to vary significantly with temperature.
For example, at 15oC the density of water is 0.9991 g/cm3, while at 4oC the density is at its
maximum of 1 g/cm3. Pressure, on the other hand, is almost always 1 atm. It is most common to
refer specific gravity to a temperature and pressure of 4oC and 1 atm.
Hydrometer
The hydrometer is an instrument usually made of glass, which is used to measure the specific
gravity or density of a liquid. It is composed of a cylindrical stem over a bulb that is weighted with
a small amount either mercury or lead to ensure it floats upright.
The function of a hydrometer is a result of Archimedes principle which states that any body which
is partially or completely submerged in a fluid at rest, is acted on by an upward buoyant force
which is equal in magnitude to the weight of the fluid displaced by the body. Consequently, the
hydrometer will sink further, the lower the density of the
