Alzheimer s Disease ( Ad ) Is A Neurodegenerative...
Alzheimer s disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative condition that affects the memory function, which is
a huge public health concern among the elderly population. It has affected more than five million
individuals in the United States and that number is expected to quadruple by the 2050 if interventions
are not found. AD has a huge affect on the world not only by the number of deaths that it is causing
but also the amount of health care costs reaching around 100 billion dollars. Because of the increase of
AD throughout the globe, the aging population should consider the intake of certain vitamins and
nutrients in their daily lives to possibly reduce or prevent the onset of AD. Nutritional factors and
nutritional deficiencies have a very strong correlation with cognitive decline as illustrated throughout
the study done by Angelo Parigi, Francesco Panza, Cristiano Capurso, and Vincenzo Solfrizzi. Ones
dietary habits and nutritional deficiencies have a huge determining factor on cognitive impairment on
an individual with AD. B vitamins have a relationship with cognitive dysfunction in many
observational studies as well as clinical and epidemiological studies. Another type of vitamin that was
found to correspond with cognitive impairment is folate (B9) and cobalamine (B12), the studies that
were done on these two types of vitamins did find the determinants with cognitive impairment in AD.
The elderly populations is among the highest at risk for nutritional deficiencies, with

Character Analysis Of Irresponsible Dale In Striking Out
Alcoholic, Irresponsible, and manipulative. These traits are of Dale who was a large influence, but a
bad one at that. These traits unfortunately reflect on the other characters within the book Striking out
by Will Weaver. In this book the main characters including Billy Baggs, Heather, and Gina are all
poorly influenced by a antagonistic person, Dale Schwartz, who was not once a good influence to
anyone within the story. Firstly Dale is being his irresponsible self who never thinks of the
consequences of his actions before he does any of them throughout the story. For example Dale gives
minors alcohol without thinking of the consequences. Now, to show just how foolish he is, when he
gives Dany alcohol he then says; I don t know what gets ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example when Dale wants to meet at midnight (which they all do for some reason) he manipulates
Heather and threatens her to make her lie about who raped her when he says, Later after we went to

like she wasn t herself now . That last quote just goes to show how much of a poor influence Dale was
and how manipulated children to lie for him. After that dale then threatens children with his rifle and
is even condescending to them when he says; You ain t gonna get away with this, Billy said! With
what? Dale said. Nobody seems to know just what it it we re talking about. Just what is this? (269).

The Four Dimensions Of Cultural Values
Understanding the differences and similarities inherent in other cultures may provide opportunities
when working with individuals (or groups) who may have very different or similar cultural values.
Through the work of many people, more is known about other cultures values than perhaps ever
before. Geert Hofstede is one of these people, and his work has allowed for a greater understanding of
cultural values across a wide range of dimensions. His work has grown from four dimensions to six,
and as more information is gathered this will perhaps increase as well. In the first section, the first four
dimensions of cultural values will be discussed briefly. Next, all six dimensions will be given for the
United States (US) and Japan, and will be considered according to the highest and lowest differences
between dimensions of these two countries cultural values. In addition, considerations for applying
motivational theories toward individuals from these two countries will also be discussed. Lastly, a
single dimension will be selected for each country and a recommendation given accordingly that could
help improve performance.
Four Dimensions of Cultural Values Latham (2012) outlines four of the broad categories of Hofstede s
cultural dimensions, including low high power distance, individualism collectivism, masculinity
femininity, and uncertainty avoidance, which will be discussed here. Power distance can be thought of
as the extent in which members of a culture accept inequality

Summary Of The Glass Castle By Jeannette Walls
Author and journalist, Jeannette Walls writes about her life story and upbringing in her memoir The
Glass Castle. The book definitely lived up to the high expectations set by others and drew me in
further as I kept reading. I wanted to read the book because I heard that is was exceptional from
several people including friends and family. As I kept reading I began to learn more about Walls story,
and I became intrigued to know what was to come. I believe that the author chose to share her story
because it shows why she is who she is today. She uses her voice well in order to relate to others in a
way that shows that when times become difficult not to lose hope because there can be a pleasant
ending. Walls writing style is very descriptive

The South And North Water Diversion Project
The South to North Water Diversion Project in China, established by Moa Zedong in 1952, is a water
diversion project that would divert 44.8 billion cubic meters of water annually to the drier north of
China ( South to North Water ). The project would link China s four main rivers the Yangtze, Yellow
River, Huaihe and Haihe. China plans on doing this by constructing three diversion routes moving
through the south to north ( South to North Water ). It would stretch across the central, eastern and
western parts of the country ( South to North Water ). This project is expected to cost around $62
billion dollars and take around 50 more years to complete ( South to North Water ). By trying to divert
the rivers and create an equal distribution of water, the project raises many environmental concerns
but has many positives. This paper will evaluate the different perspectives of the ecomodernist and
resilience theory. This will be shown by analyzing each perspective, evaluating the different concerns
and analyzing how each perspective would respond to the water diversion project. Ecomodernist s
believe that modernization is the major tool to resolving environmental issues. Ecomodernist s feel as
though society needs to always progress and that humanity cannot ever slow down or else
development would stop completely. Ecomodernist s view modernity as the human separation from
mastery over nature (Taylor). This perspective stresses the idea of using our technological and

Everest Incident Of 1996
May, 1996. Everest. People died, others were abandoned, and those who lived had to suffer with
haunting memories of the mountain. It was nothing short of a catastrophe. It was caused by a
multitude of things, but mostly incompetence, inadequate preparation, unenforced guidelines, and
unfavorable circumstances. Everything becomes a deciding factor when death is involved, and
especially during this perilous expedition.
There are many things that could have been put into play to prevent this disaster. A very important one
is better preparation for climbing. Simple things, like fixing ropes or getting more radios could have
helped immensely, and prevented many deaths. For example, we are shown one possible effect of
something basic being ignored ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The weather, specifically, was awful and intense, so much so that you couldn t differentiate anyone
who didn t introduce themselves. It took a toll on everyone, being such an extreme blizzard at such an
unexpected time. Along with this, everyone was so drained and impaired, and weren t able to help.
This caused a few people to die, as they were unrightfully abandoned; one example being Beck
Weathers. He was left to perish on the mountain about three times, though he did survive. He suffered
a lot, and still does, and due to his unfortunate time on Everest has lost his hand and a few fingers. The
summaries do not lie, when they mention Into Thin Air as being a story of bad luck . Bad luck was, in
my opinion, the greatest catalyst for this tragic journey.
Into Thin Air was very interesting and intriguing for me, most of the way through. I watched a scene
play out, a disastrous scene, and was astounded by the fact that all of it was real. I saw how all of these
perils and dangers played a role in creating this catastrophe, and I realized how difficult it actually is
to get to the top of Everest and survive the descent. It isn t just a simple climb, nor a trek made easy
with technology; an expedition is a life deciding experience, and as it occurred in this situation small,
fixable mistakes, and bad luck, can turn a life long dream into a

The building was like a maze. It took me at least thirty minutes to find the cafeteria. I got two
sandwiches and waters, but then I saw Jesse she was sitting with Kai twisting her bracelet around her
fingers. I had given it to her when we were ten. The first I realized I had a crush on her. I walked out
of the room every other second looking back at her; Every Time being disappointed she wasn t
looking too. I opened the heavy door to find Cecilia sitting down freshly showered with new clothes
on. They looked like something you would see in the movies, she looked into a drawer and pulled out
similar clothes for me. ¨Here, the showers are down the hall.¨ She did a slow closed mouth smile and

Edna St. Vincent Millay’s sonnet What lips my lips have...
Edna St. Vincent Millay s sonnet, What lips my lips have kissed and where and why
Edna St. Vincent Millay s sonnet, What lips my lips have kissed and where and why, is about being,
physically or mentally jaded, and thinking back to the torrid love of one s youth. The ghosts that haunt
her are the many lovers of her past; she s specifically trying to remember them all. She recalls the
passion she experienced and how there was a certain feeling within herself. Millay shows this through
her vivid imagery, use of the rain as a literary device and by paralleling herself with a lonely tree.
The use of symbols sets the tone of the piece. She personifies the rain in, But the rain/ Is full of ghosts

The seasons in the poem also can be seen as symbols of time passing in her life. Saying that in the
height of her life she was much in love and knew what love was she says this all with four words
summer sang in me. And as her life is in decline her lovers left her, this can be told by using winter as
a symbol because it is the season of death and decline from life and the birds left the tree in winter.
The birds can be seen as a literal symbol of the lovers that have left her or flown away or it can have
the deeper meaning that in the last stages of our life all of our memories leave us tittering to our
selves.
Paralleling herself with a lonely tree really sets into the mind how she feels about love. What birds
have vanished one by one. By saying this she speaks about how the birds leave the tree as winter
comes and how the tree does not care whether they are there or not. However, the tree does realize that
life is a lot quieter. By reading this one can assume that she feels that love plays a very small role in
her life over all, but in reading further she writes, I cannot say what loves have come and gone/ I only
know that summer sang in me/ A little while, it sings no more. She sounds almost remorseful of the
lovers and the memories that

The Final Solution from Witnesses to the Holocaust
The years of 1941 and 1942 paint a vivid description of ugly, taking place events too hard to take in,
and the death of 6 million innocent people. The Final Solution in an excerpt from Witnesses to the
Holocaust: An Oral History, where Sam Bankhalter and Hinda Kibort detail their horrifying account of
Hitler s rash and day to day life in the Nazi concentration camps where they were imprisoned. The
Final Solution was a plan systematically matriculated by the Nazi to exterminate European Jews by
placing them in work camps designed for certain death.
Sam Bankhalter was just fourteen at the time when he was captured by the Nazis in his native land of
Poland and exiled to Auschwitz. In a detailed account he paints the picture of life as a Jew during
Hitler s fury and the unimaginable accounts of terror that occurred. According to Bankhalter, racism of
European Jews was already occurring in Poland even before Hitler invaded, and their slogan was Jew
get out of here and go to Palestine. He accounts of being beaten and spit on the school grounds on a
daily basis, long before Hitler invaded. Bankhalter describes his journey to the ghetto as laced with
barbed wire and Nazi mocking Jews cutting off men s beards and beating them as they yelled at the
Jews to assemble. The Nazi s only gave them about twenty minutes to pack, leaving them time to only
gather the necessities, which would only be stripped from them later. Bankhalter was only in the
ghetto for a short time, and then sent

Things Fall Apart By Solomon Northup
Solomon Northup executed his very gruesome and serious tone throughout his memoir by providing
dialogue said by real life people and using diction to give nauseating details to events going on around
him throughout his twelve years in bondage. For example, Solomon Northup explains in chapter five
how a fellow free slave named Arthur was abused for trying to protest the unfair kidnapping. Solomon
states, He fought until his strength failed him. Overpowered at last, he was gagged and bound with
ropes, and beaten, until he became insensible. (39). The slave masters were not compassionate and
defiantly enforced the depressing tone of the memoir. Solomon Northup explains how Eliza, a slave
mother, is being separated from her son and the cruel,

Analysis Of Phil Collins Land Of Confusion
In 1986, a British rock band named Genesis released a song called Land of Confusion. It makes the
listener imagine, and take another look at the world and how it is being run. Despite having a high
tempo and a loud melody, it s not a song someone can generally dance to. The song s pop rock style
gives an upbeat variety of rock music. Pop rock in nature uses only electrical instruments, which gives
the song a synthetic sound. Phil Collins voice has a metallic sound which suppresses his British
accent. The band usually about romance or a personal experience of someone, but this is a rare
political song that questions the wisdom of world leaders at the time. Phil Collins, lead singer and
drummer, called it, A political song about the mess we have landed in. It also had a very popular music
video that won the 1987 Grammy for Best Concept Music Video. When the song first starts, it sets the
tone for the rest of the song. It starts out with first, the drums, electric guitar, and electric keyboard
having a very fast and loud melody. This makes the listener think that something is about to happen,
which allows the band to convey the message of the song. The first lyrics of the song are, I must ve
dreamed a thousand dreams/Been haunted by a million screams/I can hear the marching feet/They re
moving into the street./Now did you read the news today/They say the danger s gone away/ But I can

Was Tsar Nicholas Emperor Unfit
Tsar Nicholas II of Russia: An Emperor Unfit to Rule Ravaged Russia At the end of the nineteenth
century, Tsar Nicholas II of Russia reluctantly took command of an empire overflowing with
revolutionaries who were seeking change in response to hardships that their nation was facing. His
timid personality, coupled with his lack of political education and military experience, made him unfit
to calm the war fueled chaos that would soon envelop Russia. Nicholas series of unfortunate,
unprepared and uninformed decisions began with his marriage and eventually ended with his decision
to abandon the capital to lead his armies, ultimately leading to the demise of his imperial family s
three hundred year dynastic tradition. The turn of the century illuminated Russia, commonly labeled
as backwards by the other European powers, as the last remaining European autocracy. Russian
society still operated on the estate system, which was characterized by an enormous gap between the
upper class nobility and the lower class peasantry. Peasants comprised eighty percent of the population
and only a fraction were educated. They had little understanding of government and were highly
patriarchal. Many served as serfs. It was not until the 1860s that these serfs were freed from legal
bondage by Nicholas grandfather, Alexander II. However, this was not enough to satisfy Russian
citizens newfound taste of freedom. In the years following, they demanded he establish an elected

Pluck And Pick Research Paper
Pluck or Pick
Someday I ll wish upon a star, wake up where the clouds are far behind me. Where trouble melts like
lemon drops, high above the chimney top, that s where you ll find me. . . are the famous lyrics to
Israel Kamakawiwo ole s ukulele song Over The Rainbow . It was also one the first songs I learned on
the ukulele. On my birthday, senior year of high school, I received this small instrument with just four
strings and the most beautiful sound. Of course, I had no clue on how to play it or where to even
begin; whether to learn off YouTube or take lessons, deciding whether to use a pick or not, and even
how to hold it correctly. I want to point out, while these might seem like silly issues to worry about,
they really are important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I also have indicated one of those individuals already, Brody Shrader, my friend who gave me lessons.
On the first day of lessons he led me to an assortment of picks and recommended that I should play
with and without a pick and then choose the best way that works for me. I did just that, I had practiced
with and without a pick, and then chose what I had preferred. When I interviewed Brody, I asked him
the question, What is your opinion on the debate of whether to use a pick when playing the ukulele?
He looked at me, kind of gave me a smirk and said I honestly do not know much about this debate but
I think it is silly to be argued over, because it is up to the person themselves. He then begins to explain
how there are different tones; with a pick it will be much louder and amplified sound, while without a
pick it will obviously be more subtle and have a softer sound. He also brings the point up that after
hearing the two different sounds the ukulele can create, the musician can make it what he or she wants
and express themselves in any way they wish. Brody bringing up this point sheds light on the difficult
problem of people not realizing what the bigger issue here is. Yes, many may think that it is not a big
deal to make this decision but really people that are not musicians do not understand that the simple
strum with or without a pick is what brings the sound alive and it adds so much to the music. To create
the music the right way, the musician has to base the decision off of personal

Barbie and cultural aspects: Diffusion and failure
Originating from the concept that different ethnic groups can have their very own stereotyped ideals of
beauty, in a strategy of expanding the global reach of Barbie line to different cultures, Mattel came up
with multi cultural Barbie, i.e. Barbie with different backgrounds, for instance: the coloured Barbie
was warmly greeted in African, American, Hispanic, and Indian cultures. However, there was
controversy over approaches of Mattel in other markets, of which cultures traditional Barbie dolls
were not compatible with. Drawbacks were clearly seen in Mattel s business in several overseas
markets, to name but a few, ban on Barbie in Malaysia due to its lack of Asian appearance; Barbie
confistication in Iran because of its non Islamic features (Ferrell 2007, 484), which go against their
religion in terms of women s image; Barbie rejection in China, a

America s Freedom Rings Through The Liberty Bell
Shockingly, words convey multiple stories and ideas. Within each word lies an abundant amount of
perspectives, treasures, and unknowns. Restoration means to return something to its original state or

freedom of speech and a home of many; a symbol of America s freedom rings through the Liberty

Obtaining Higher Education At San Bernardino Valley College
Obtaining higher education is difficult. There is that saying that if it was easy, everybody would do it.
Being admitted into a four year institution out of high school is something out of the past. More and
more people are obtaining their education through community colleges. State Law requires the
California Community Colleges (CCC) to operate as open access institutions. This means all persons
18 or older may attend a community college. (Prioritizing Course Enrollment at the Community
Colleges) San Bernardino Valley College currently practices priority registration for their students.
This can be beneficial for students and faculty for various reasons. However, are the categories for
registration rational? Is Priority registration at San Bernardino Valley College necessary? To obtain a
better understanding of priority registration, we must first discuss its categories. There are seven
different categories that are currently applied when it registering for classes at SBVC. Priority A F

Priority A allows Active Military/Veterans, Foster Youth, DSP S/EOP S/CARE/CalWorks to register

A Study On Shark Tank
Since 2009, the renowned reality show, Shark Tank, has been giving small business entrepreneurs
hope allowing them to achieve dreams which previously appeared impossible. In this television show,
five multi millionaire and billionaire investors, known as sharks , invest their time and money into
small businesses which they believe will succeed with their expertise. Each entrepreneur who enters
the Shark Tank must attempt to convince these sharks that their business is worth their investment. If
the entrepreneurs succeed, the sharks may battle between each other so that they can partake in this
business. However, not every entrepreneur receives an offer. Only those with the greatest ideas and
business plans receive investment offers from the sharks . The mission was to determine whether
author Lisa Lenzo has what it takes for Shark Tank. Is she motivated to make her business succeed?
Does her business address an ongoing problem or need? Would her business thrive and grow with the
help of a shark ? As a part of my search, I had the privilege of attending a contemporary writers
presentation from Lisa. She shared her personal story explaining why writing is important to her and
the reason she began writing. It was through this presentation that I discovered whether or not Lisa
was the right candidate for Shark Tank.
If you want to be on Shark Tank, you have to be a motivated entrepreneur. You have to be willing to
acknowledge your downfalls, learn from

Poisonwood Bible: Response 3 This novel is based on storytelling. Each girl has their own point of
view of what life is like in the Congo. For, example, it was absolutely terrible for Rachel. She never
wanted to be there from the start. When they first arrived in the Congo, no one wanted to be there.
Certain girls changed their minds. Ruth May, for example, conformed to the Congo culture. She even
made friends along the way, by playing games like Mother May I with the children of the Congo.
Leah did not really conform to the culture. She wanted to hunt with the guys, but she still was a part of
their culture. She fought for women s rights in the Congo. Leah ... Show more content on

because it talks about the Baptist missionaries. They had to deal with the rejection from the Congolese
people. The Congolese people rejected the religion and the Price family since they were white. The
Price family also had to deal with the same diseases and situations as the people of the Congo. They

Gwendolyn Brook And Kwame Dawess Analysis
The African American Struggle Through Contemporary Poetry Ai, Gwendolyn Brooks, and Kwame
Dawes are all contemporary African American poets. Their works often focused on different aspects
of the post civil rights movement in the African American community. Ai was known for writing
poetry on hard subjects. She was also known for writing poems that were graphic. Being multiracial,(
1/2 Japanese, 1/8 Choctaw, 1/4 Black, and 1/16 Irish), many of her poems were based on the
complexity of identity ( qtd. in Ai, a Steadfast Poetic Channel of Hard Lives, Dies at 62 ). On the other
hand, Kwame Dawes is a Nigerian born man of Jamaican descent. Gwendolyn Brooks was an African
American woman whose adult years were spent during the civil rights movement. Tornado Child is a
poem written by Kwame Dawes in 2002. It celebrates different aspects of black womanhood. In
contrast, Gwendolyn Brook s We Real Cool is written in the sixties and talks about the negative
aspects of stereotypes. The Kid by Ai is graphic and depicts violence. All of the poems demonstrate
different struggles that are faced by the African American community. This essay will specifically
examine the African American struggle through the lens of misogynoir, stereotypes, and the
destruction of black families. The first poem, Tornado Child by Kwame Dawes, explores the African
American struggle through misogynoir. Dictionary.com describes misogynoir as the specific hatred,

Transformation Of Hester Prynne
All wrongful actions have consequences, furthermore, the consequences of one mistake has the power
to flip one s life upside down and ultimately change their life forever. This is what happens to Hester
Prynne in Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter. Hester has been found guilty for adultery, a sin
punishable by death in the Bible, and is forced by the Puritan society in which she lives in face major
repercussions. Hester is forced to atone for her sins through prison time, public humiliation, and the
forced wearing of a scarlet letter. Despite this, Hester Prynne is a resilient young woman, determined
to overcome the circumstances thrust upon her, although she slowly becomes less of a woman and
loses her ability to love, she remains ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The scarlet letter, the judgement from the public, and the seclusion all combined to take away
something from Hester that she may never get back. Seven years after she is forced to withstand
public humiliation for many hours, a sad transformation overcomes Hester. Hester s emotional
transformation is so drastic that it makes her less of a woman. The seclusion that Hester has been
living in for the past seven years has resulted in her losing her ability to love, the emotion that makes
you the most woman. It was due in part to all these causes, but still more to something else, that there
seemed to be no longer any thing in Hester s face for Love to dwell upon; nothing in Hester s form,
though majestic and statue like, that Passion would ever dream of clasping in its embrace; nothing in
Hester s bosom, to make it ever again the pillow of Affection (Hawthorne, 1994, pp. 112). However, it
is apparent that this needed to happen to Hester in order for her to survive what had happened to her.
Some attribute had departed from her, the permanence of which had been essential to keep her a
woman. Such is frequently the fate, and such the stern development, of the feminine character and
person, when the woman has encountered, and lived through, an experience of peculiar severity. If she
be all tenderness, she will die. If she survive, the tenderness will either be crushed out of her, or...
crushed so deeply into her heart that it can never show itself more. (Hawthorne, 1994, pp. 112). The
reader watches Hester slowly become less and less of herself, making this transformation exceedingly
difficult to

Characters In The Breakfast Club
The Breakfast Club brings many types of peoples, and many types of personalities together. I
personally think I relate to all of them, not completely because they all have characteristics that I think
I also have. John is this bad kid who does and says whatever he wants to do. Claire is the pristine
goodie goodie. Allison is this strange girl who is considered to be a basket case. Andrew is the jock
whose main concern is westing. Brian is a depressed brainiac. Firstly, I relate to John because he
doesn t care what people think of him, and I typically don t try to listen to what people say about me.
John does whatever he wants and says whatever he wants to, and most of the time it gets him in
trouble. I sort of relate to that in a way because I do what I want to most of the time, but usually I

It is widely known that a multitude of people use Botox injections for cosmetic purposes without any
significant adverse side effects. However, not many Botox patients are aware that what they are
injecting into their bodies, botulinum toxin, is one of the most lethal substances known to mankind.
This neurotoxin poses a major threat to be used in a bioterrorism attack, killing thousands of people. If
it is truly as toxic as scientists claim, then how can botulinum toxin possibly be used in facial

botulinum causes the botulism disease, which kills through muscle paralysis. The article additionally
specifies that the muscles used in breathing become dysfunctional from the prevention of the release
of acetylcholine; thus, people infected by C. botulinum most often die from oxygen deprivation.
Pursuing this further, Deborah Josko, a clinical laboratory scientist, clarifies that these bacteria result
in three categories of botulism foodborne, wound, and infant botulism. Moreover, Josko articulates
that unless proper care is initially administered, the deterioration of the respiratory system can
potentially lead to death. When ingested, botulinum toxin works its way through the body and causes
many difficulties. The Johns Hopkins working group on civilian biodefense has stated that this
neurotoxin functions by affecting the central nervous system. When someone has contracted the
botulism disease, it is necessary for them to use mechanical ventilation in order to breathe often for
prolonged periods of time. Additionally, an article from the eLibrary Science database clarifies,
[Botulinum toxin] resists the acid and enzymes of the stomach by creating complexes with other
bacterial proteins... The toxin is bound and internalized into the presynaptic nerve endings, preventing
release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine (Hawley). This article by H. Bradford Hawley warns that

Multinational Corporations are the economic powerhouses of globe. These corporations bring an
influx of wealth, power and resources. With the introduction of Corporations in other countries it
brings employment opportunities, technological advancements and in best case scenarios raises
standards of living; However the cons of Multinational corporations are increasing and in some cases
getting out of hand. We are seeing increasing cases of companies forgoing waste management laws
and disposal standards as well as the exploitation of workers either violating child labor policies or
underpaying employees both in state and internationally. This is creating serious harm the the
environment as well as the harm to the well being of those employed. Often times these negative
consequences are the reverse of the benefits, yes there are job opportunities that might have not been
available before but at 50 cents an hour how much is truly beneficial. To better understand how the
negatives are slowly out weighing the pros it is necessary to understand not only the benefits but also
what MNCs are as a whole. Multinational corporations as the name implies are companies that have
been established in one or more countries outside of its home country. Other names for businesses

COPD Case Study Essay
RATIONALE
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) remains a major financial burden to our healthcare
system. In 2015, the Centers for Medicare Medicaid Services started imposing a financial penalty for
hospitals with excess rates of COPD readmissions. We investigated the effectiveness of a Discharge
Checklist in reducing the rates of 30 day readmission in a cohort of high risk patients admitted with
COPD exacerbation.
METHODS
We conducted a 12 month randomized prospective case control study on patients diagnosed with acute
COPD exacerbation from December 2016 to November 2017. The case cohort was administered a
Discharge Checklist at the time of hospital discharge while the patients in the control group underwent
usual discharge care. The Discharge Checklist included identification of factors such as non
compliance, inappropriate oxygen use, inappropriate inhaler technique and lack of follow up. In
addition, we measured the Peak Inspiratory Flow (PIF) and adjusted the home inhalers based on the
PIF. The electronic health record was used to look for evidence of readmissions. The primary outcome
measured was the 30 day readmission rates of the cases compared to ... Show more content on

51 patients (46.8%) were assigned to the case cohort and 58 patients (53.2%) were assigned to the
control cohort. The difference in the rate of 30 day readmission between cases (21.6%) and controls
(13.8%) was not statistically significant (P = 0.3203). The overall rate of 30 day readmission in the
study population was 17.4%. The mean hospital length of stay was similar between both groups. A
history of COPD exacerbation in the preceding 12 months was the only significant predictor of 30 day
readmission (P = 0.0114). The mean PIF (50.4 ± 19.35 L/min, n = 49) was similar between the
patients with a 30 day readmission and those without (P = 0.7608). There was a significant negative

Building And Manage Great Teams
Build and Manage Great Teams
In today s workplace, terms like team building, work as a team, and team mentality are as common as
stepping up to the plate and hitting a home run. But what is teambuilding, really? Most of us think it is
a group of people trying to get along in order to accomplish some complex task or a multi layered
project. Not quite.
Another critical mistake that may doom your team to failure before it even gets started is to think that
if a project has a wide scope, it will obviously take more than two people working together to get the
desired outcome. So, you take a few of your best employees, throw them into a room with a
description of the outcome, and see what happens. Not exactly a recipe for success. ... Show more

Once the project is outlined, the manager should get busy planning how the team will work together
and what goals are to be accomplished. Before we can even begin to think about selecting our team
members, we must first get a clear picture of what is to be accomplished. A structured and systematic
focus at the project planning stage will lay the foundation. Here are 11 points that managers will need
to cover when planning any project involving teams:
1) First, Define the Outcome. Think about the business objectives in creating the team. Ask yourself
what you hope the outcome will be. Is there a product that will come out of the team? Are you
planning for a future event or are you formulating a process outcome? When the outcome is clearly
delineated, all of the effort and planning to reach the outcome will be easier to formulate and execute.
Once you have the end product in mind, you can design all of the contributing events much more
effectively.
2) Identify the talents necessary to reach the outcome. People provide the experience and expertise to
accomplish the outcome with unique thinking processes and personality characteristics. With
knowledge of the outcome, you have to analyze exactly what skill set will get you there.
3) Establish specific performance checkpoints. The leader should put together a series of detailed
goals and sub goals that the team

Problem Identification and Analysis
For this particular case, there are many issues which will cause problems for the school leader. All of
which will need to be addressed in order for this student to feel welcomed and to also feel that he is
getting the same educational opportunities as the other students in the building. This case presents
many challenges, however, for the building leader. There are three key issues which are the basis for
my resolution to the problem.
First, it has been clearly identified that some of the instructors in the building have had a history of not

Namely, an American Sign Interpreter will be required for this student. Further, the student will need
to feel accepted by his peers. This can be quite challenging for the building principal to facilitate, even
for a building full of regular education students. Also, the teachers will need to be accepting of having
this student in their classes, along with the interpreter.
Finally, this case presents a challenging issue with the parents of the child as well. It will be critical for
the parents to know that their child s needs will be met through the IEP and that the building leader is
in support of the IEP so that it is enforced. This is absolutely critical for the building leader because if
the IEP is not constructed properly and if the IEP is not being followed, then legal ramifications could
cause issues for me as the building leader.
At any rate, the problem for me in this case is found in the three areas mentioned previously. One is
the mindset of the teachers. Two is the mindset of the student. Three is the satisfaction of the parents.
While these issues do not solely rest on my shoulders, it is my leadership which will determine how
successful this inclusion will be for the student.
Plan of Action
The proposed plan of action to promote a resolution to this case is three fold. First I will remedy the
trouble with the instructors in my building by setting goals. It is apparent that many teachers are
reluctant to accept special education

What Should Be Done About Gang Violence In Society?
Many people in our society do not think that anything bad will ever happen to them. These people

Movies can have a negative effect on youth (Synder). Movies and other media may serve as control
systems for the working through of psychological and social conflicts. Many of the youthful audiences
may experience and carry out their inner conflicts, desires, and fears, within the managed forms of the
motion picture (Synder). Robert K. Ressler, a criminologist, explains that some families act as if they
are in another world and their behaviors unfold independent of the quality of neighborhoods, poverty,
class, relations, crime, or any other factor. Poor family socialization is the final cause of criminality
(Singer). Gangs are a visual symbol of deprived families. They tend to grow in isolation from the
surrounding social world (Singer).John J. Dilulio Jr., a criminologist, states that social factors range
from family life to economic issues, program funding, and cultural changes (Hutson). A problem that
is usually associated with gangs is the use of drugs. Anglin Hutson of Nation s Cities Weekly, stated
that drug, gang connection is often cited, but many researchers believe this activity is overstated. Most
street gangs are not efficient or sophisticated drug distributions (Klein). Klein goes on to say that
members of gangs are normally arrested for crimes such as burglary, assault, fighting, vandalism,
homicide, and extortion. There has been a link from recent evidence between inner city gang members
and drug traffic, states Professor Dr.

Super Normal Case Study
2.3 Super Normal
Being a concept to celebrate sustainability in durable design, Super Normal is a concept developed by
furniture designer Jasper Morrison and product designer Naoto Fukasawa. It refers to timeless
products that serve people without drawing attention to themselves (Fukasawa Morrison 2012).
Calling for a re realization of unobtrusive designs in daily life, Super Normal encourages designers to
re acknowledge the parts people naturally think are good in design. Generally, designers or even
people who buy designs do not advocate normal as a design concept, they expect something special or
novel to catch eyes. However, the products that make a difference in daily life are invisible (Norman,

Super Normal. On the contrary, the beauty of a product can elicit positive emotions that open up the
cognitive system and inspires people to find out creative solutions easily (Norman, 2002). Here is a
clear cut case (Pic.10) that illustrates the aesthetic differences between Arial and Helvetica. They both
are sans serif typefaces that are universally embraced by different applications. At first glance, they

two types, showing how much more refined design of Helvetica than that of Arial (Simonson, 2001).
The primary difference between the two is the treatments of their endings. While Helvetica is
vertically cut, Arial is slightly angled. For instance, the tail of the a is gently curved in Helvetica, but
not in Arial. Similarly, the top of the t and the ends of the strokes in the C and S are perfectly
horizontal in the former but slightly angled in the latter. The letterforms of Helvetica demonstrate
exactly how thoughtfully designed they are. The typeface is uniform and structurally sound by

Reflective Essay On Sonography
On Friday October 20th, I went to CDI south to shadow a sonographer. During this time, I got to sit
closely to my mentor Tanya, and watch her complete ultrasounds on patients, and learn a lot more
about the job. I was not able to do anything job related during this time, for many safety reasons, but I
was able to sit right next to Tanya as she completed many different ultrasounds. During this
shadowing session, we saw a total of 5 patients. Before every ultrasound, you have to prepare the
room for the patient by putting a sheet on the bed, putting a pillow cover on the pillow, and retrieving
towels for the patient after the ultrasound is over. The sonographers also have to prep the ultrasound
machine, and read over the patient s report and information to ensure they know the background of the
patient before they come in. The sonographer will then go out to the waiting room to grab the patient,
and bring them into the room, ask them certain questions about their medical conditions and
ultrasound, and then they will give the patient instructions and preform the ultrasound. The first
patient was a middle aged woman, and she came into CDI to receive a pelvic ultrasound to look at her
ovaries, kidneys, bladder, and other organs in this area. During this time, I got to see the patient s

A Grand Gothic Torture Chamber in Edgar Allan Poe s Short...
Edgar Allan Poe s short story, The Pit and the Pendulum , uses the grand gothic setting of a torture
chamber during the Spanish Inquisition that contains a mysterious pit, symbolizing how the absence of
religion in the narrator s life makes him fear the unknown. Once the narrator discovers the pit, he is
filled with dread at the thought of falling into it: Shaking in every limb, I groped my way back to the
wall; resolving there to perish rather than risk the terrors of the wells, of which my imagination now
pictured many in various positions about the dungeon (Poe 7). The narrator is a heretic, so he most
likely does not accept the idea of life after death. He has likely imagined various fates. Each pit that he
has imagined in the room represents a different fate, so he fears falling into them. In fact, the narrator
fears falling into the pit more than any other torture inflicted upon him. Poe writes, Neither could I
forget what I had read of these pits that the sudden extinction of life formed no part of their most
horrible plan (7). Although the narrator does not know himself what will happen to him after death,
but no doubt he has read about what happens to heretics after they die according to Christianity: they
go to Hell, where they are tortured for eternity. While his body would die, his soul, the source of his
life, would be trapped forever. If falling into the pit leads to this fate, the narrator would greatly fear it.

Claude Mckay Meaning
Claude McKay wrote the poem, I Know My Soul in an effort to make his readers reach deep inside
and see the true being in which they are. We all are filled with certain passions and certain desires, but
sometimes we act as if we are not. We try to contain who we are because it doesn t quite fit the mold
of what society has so carelessly made for us. Clause challenges his audience to reach deep within
themselves and see who they are. The good, the bad, and the not so pretty that is held within our
beating hearts and scattered minds is what makes us who we are. We were all so eloquently crafted to
be different and we should know our own souls for that very reason. No one human being was, or will

the mirror of my eye... (1 2) The narrator is now forced to look at what it is that drives him to do
certain things. To examine one s soul means to question all of our desires and every intention we have.
Understanding our soul means we are able to see if we are good or bad people. Claude McKay
continues on and compares the soul to a star in the sky in order to emphasize that the soul is bright like
a star, visible to the naked eye, but it is exposed to so many things. We generally keep our desires
hidden within us, even from ourselves. When we question ourselves about our thoughts then it is
almost like we are exposing

Capitalism And Colonialism’S Links As Pillars Of White
Capitalism and colonialism s links as pillars of white supremacy contribute to the racial exclusion and
exploitation of certain racial groups, such as Native Americans and Black people. This can be seen
through the timeline of North American history, but also farther back in the history of European settler
colonialism throughout Europe and into other nearby continents. The methods of decolonization
employed by various racial groups affected by colonialism interact with one another in various ways,
as each group was affected differently, yet they were affected by the same instigating group of white
settlers. It is important when these groups make the move to decolonize themselves to consider other
groups outside their own, as interactions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Roxanne Dunbar Ortiz covers much of this in her book Indigenous People s History of the US, where
she goes over many historical events contributing to the genocide, exploitation, and exclusion of
Native Americans. In the beginnings of white colonial interaction with indigenous people, settlers
used native peoples as sources of knowledge on how to live off unfamiliar land:
They appropriated what had already been created by Indigenous civilizations. They stole already
cultivated farmland and the... crops domesticated over centuries, took control of the deer parks that
had been cleared and maintained by Indigenous communities, used existing roads and water routes in
order to move armies to conquer, and relied on captured Indigenous people to identify the locations of
water, oyster beds, and medicinal herbs (Dunbar Ortiz 46). Without Native Americans, Dunbar Ortiz
argues, the European settlers would likely have not survived in the New World at all, for had North
America been a wilderness, undeveloped, without roads, and uncultivated, it might still be so, for the
European colonists could not have survived (46). This is only the beginning of settler exploitation of
Native Americans, though, as settler colonialism later changes its stance of racialized logic to that of
exclusion, leading to mass genocide and appropriation of indigenous land. Once the

Gross Domestic Product And Gross National Income
M2A2: National Income Accounting/
Gross Domestic Product and Gross National Income
Samantha Montero Renee Scott
After reading Economics: Principles and Tools, we understand that one is able to
measure the production of the entire economy by a tool known as the Gross Domestic Product
(GDP). GDP is defined as the total market value of all final goods and services, produced within
a country.1 It summarizes the entire production of an economy into a single number (GDP) and it
gauge s a country standard of living. Throughout this essay we will aim to explain both the main
components of GDP and it s differences from other forms of economic measurements, as well as
touch upon it s deficiencies as a measure of welfare. We will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

GDP, on top of having several different components, has a few different ways in which it
measures output. Two different measurements that are widely used are Nominal GDP and Real
GDP. The main difference between nominal GDP and real GDP is that nominal GDP doesn t
adjust for inflation and real GDP does. 2 While real GDP is adjusted for differences in price
levels, nominal GDP when calculated is not and, as a result, will often appear higher and can be
misleading. With measurements that require adjustments, one will always encounter
discrepancies. Gross domestic input or GDI measures the sum of all income earned while
producing goods and services within a nation s borders. 3 The difference between GDI and GDP
is that GDI calculates economic activity based on income, and GDP calculates economic activity
based on spending. While they are similar, the two measurements use different methods to gauge
the economy and thus, the data collected by GDP and GDI will almost never be the same.
According to Dr. Marilyn Waring in the film Who is Counting?4 As long as activity
passes through the market, it is good for growth. In the film Dr. Waring discusses the major

Divided Attention In A Football Game
Sitting in a stadium watching a football game requires being able to focus attention on the game while
distractions interfere with your focus. Our visual surroundings typically include a multitude of objects
that differ in their location, shapes and constituent features. Specific objects may be selected for
detailed examination and perceptual enhancement by directing attention to their locations or their
identifying features (Schoenfield, Hopf, Merkel, Heinze, Hillyard, 2014). At a football game there is a
lot going on that requires divided attention which is the distribution of attention among two or more
tasks (Goldstein, 2015, p. 100). During the game, some of my attention will be object based focused

Still Water Case Study
The beautiful town of Stillwater is located on the St. Croix river in the St. Croix River Valley and is
known as the Birthplace of Minnesota. The early days of Stillwater were uncertain and uneasy as the
land was fought over for many years. The coveted land transitioned from being part of Wisconsin
territory to being included in Washington county in 1938. All the while, lumbering interests drew
many to the area and white settlers took up residence in Stillwater. One former soldier, Indian trader,
Justice of the Peace and promoter, Joseph Renshaw Brown had been in the area since 1820. He had set
up a store and farm at Grey Cloud Island and kept a warehouse at the head of Lake St. Croix to supply
upriver fur trading operations. This warehouse, which was located where North Stillwater stands
today, grew into a small village that he called Dacotah . In 1840 the first ferry was licensed to operate
across the St. Croix. In 1841, Joseph Brown s family traveled from Chicago to join him in his new
village. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Croix and Mississippi rivers without government. So Joseph Brown gathered settlers in this region and
formed the Stillwater Convention to draft a Memorial to send to congress suggesting that this new
territory be created and called Minnesota. Henry Sibley delivered this petition to congress and helped
speed the process along, and the Minnesota Territory was officially organized in March of 1849. This,
after all, is why Stillwater is referred to as the birthplace of Minnesota. On March 4, 1854, John
McKusick was elected Mayor of Stillwater and Stillwater was incorporated as a city. If you have any

Colorado Water Shortage Essay
Colorado s Water Shortage; a Localized Problem with a National Salience
The Issue at Hand
The State of Colorado has suffered from a water shortage in recent years; a difficult situation which is
easily visible when viewing the quickly shortening length of the Colorado River. Lake Mead, for
example, is roughly 130 feet lower than it once was, marked by the stained rock which towers above
the current water level. The river has become a perfect symbol of what happens when we ask too
much of a limited resource: it disappears. In fact, the Colorado no longer regularly reaches the sea
(Zielinski, 2010). Legislation was implemented early on to address this issue, though the results were
(perhaps not surprisingly) rather unanticipated, regarding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The upper basin states (including Colorado) were allocated a much greater percentage of the water
than the lower basin states, while the upper basin states were developing at a much slower rate than
those in the lower basin, notably California. Nevada (as of 1997) anticipated being unable to rely just
on this water by 2015, while in 1997 California was already exceeding its originally allocated supply
by diverting unused water from the upper basin states (Arizona.edu, 1997). It goes without saying that
this legislation from the early twentieth century is not going to be sufficient in coming years as the
development of these regions has progressed at a much faster rate than originally anticipated, and it is
the responsibility of state and federal governments, water management companies, as well as appeals
from farmers and non farming residents alike to come to an agreement on how to apportion water and
how to implement secondary hydration plans due to the rapidly declining resource that the once
magnificent Colorado River was able to supply us

Syria Crisis Essay
Under the request of National Security Adviser Flynn, the following is a summary on the current
situation in Syria and a recommendation for the best course of action to undertake. In it you will find a
set of possible policy options to address the situation.
SITUATION
In 2011 the civil war in Syria began after protesters clashed against Syrian security forces leaving
many protestors dead. What began as protests against the government of Syrian President Bashar Al
Assad calling for him to step aside because of political disagreement and the deaths of protestors, has
evolved into a multi dimensional war that has seen various groups join the fight against one another.
The United States became involved in the conflict after the use of ... Show more content on

2. Although President Bashar Al Assad has committed atrocities against the people of Syria, he
remains the only force in the region that can keep radical terrorists groups, such as the
Islamic State, from advancing. Therefore it is critically important that he remain in power. 3. In order
to successfully defeat the Islamic State it is imperative that the United State and Russia cooperate
together in a concerted effort to eliminate the Islamic State. 4. There must be an establishment of a no
fly/humanitarian zone where civilians can receive aid and assistance without the fear of violence from
the war.
What these goals mean is that we will ultimately have to select an option that allows us to achieve
these tasks, but that will inevitably lead to disagreement between the United States and our allies. The
United States must face the reality that certain allies will not agree with our decision. The national
security of the United States must be our ultimate goal.
THE DILEMMA WE FACE
The problem that we have is that in agreeing to allow President Assad to remain in power, we will run
into much backlash from allies. Saudi Arabia will not be in agreement as they want to see President
Assad toppled, and want a group that is more aligned to their interests in power. Israel will not be
satisfied if Assad remains because of historic conflict between the two states, as well as President
Assad s long support for the terrorist group Hezbollah. Our ally, Turkey, also is not in

  • 2. Alzheimer s Disease ( Ad ) Is A Neurodegenerative... Alzheimer s disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative condition that affects the memory function, which is a huge public health concern among the elderly population. It has affected more than five million individuals in the United States and that number is expected to quadruple by the 2050 if interventions are not found. AD has a huge affect on the world not only by the number of deaths that it is causing but also the amount of health care costs reaching around 100 billion dollars. Because of the increase of AD throughout the globe, the aging population should consider the intake of certain vitamins and nutrients in their daily lives to possibly reduce or prevent the onset of AD. Nutritional factors and nutritional deficiencies have a very strong correlation with cognitive decline as illustrated throughout the study done by Angelo Parigi, Francesco Panza, Cristiano Capurso, and Vincenzo Solfrizzi. Ones dietary habits and nutritional deficiencies have a huge determining factor on cognitive impairment on an individual with AD. B vitamins have a relationship with cognitive dysfunction in many observational studies as well as clinical and epidemiological studies. Another type of vitamin that was found to correspond with cognitive impairment is folate (B9) and cobalamine (B12), the studies that were done on these two types of vitamins did find the determinants with cognitive impairment in AD. The elderly populations is among the highest at risk for nutritional deficiencies, with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Character Analysis Of Irresponsible Dale In Striking Out Alcoholic, Irresponsible, and manipulative. These traits are of Dale who was a large influence, but a bad one at that. These traits unfortunately reflect on the other characters within the book Striking out by Will Weaver. In this book the main characters including Billy Baggs, Heather, and Gina are all poorly influenced by a antagonistic person, Dale Schwartz, who was not once a good influence to anyone within the story. Firstly Dale is being his irresponsible self who never thinks of the consequences of his actions before he does any of them throughout the story. For example Dale gives minors alcohol without thinking of the consequences. Now, to show just how foolish he is, when he gives Dany alcohol he then says; I don t know what gets ... That last quote just goes to show how much of a poor influence Dale was and how manipulated children to lie for him. After that dale then threatens children with his rifle and is even condescending to them when he says; You ain t gonna get away with this, Billy said! With what? Dale said. Nobody seems to know just what it it we re talking about. Just what is this? (269). • 6. The Four Dimensions Of Cultural Values Understanding the differences and similarities inherent in other cultures may provide opportunities when working with individuals (or groups) who may have very different or similar cultural values. Through the work of many people, more is known about other cultures values than perhaps ever before. Geert Hofstede is one of these people, and his work has allowed for a greater understanding of cultural values across a wide range of dimensions. His work has grown from four dimensions to six, and as more information is gathered this will perhaps increase as well. In the first section, the first four dimensions of cultural values will be discussed briefly. Next, all six dimensions will be given for the United States (US) and Japan, and will be considered according to the highest and lowest differences between dimensions of these two countries cultural values. In addition, considerations for applying motivational theories toward individuals from these two countries will also be discussed. Lastly, a single dimension will be selected for each country and a recommendation given accordingly that could help improve performance. Four Dimensions of Cultural Values Latham (2012) outlines four of the broad categories of Hofstede s cultural dimensions, including low high power distance, individualism collectivism, masculinity femininity, and uncertainty avoidance, which will be discussed here. Power distance can be thought of as the extent in which members of a culture accept inequality ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. The South And North Water Diversion Project The South to North Water Diversion Project in China, established by Moa Zedong in 1952, is a water diversion project that would divert 44.8 billion cubic meters of water annually to the drier north of China ( South to North Water ). The project would link China s four main rivers the Yangtze, Yellow River, Huaihe and Haihe. China plans on doing this by constructing three diversion routes moving through the south to north ( South to North Water ). It would stretch across the central, eastern and western parts of the country ( South to North Water ). This project is expected to cost around $62 billion dollars and take around 50 more years to complete ( South to North Water ). By trying to divert the rivers and create an equal distribution of water, the project raises many environmental concerns but has many positives. This paper will evaluate the different perspectives of the ecomodernist and resilience theory. This will be shown by analyzing each perspective, evaluating the different concerns and analyzing how each perspective would respond to the water diversion project. Ecomodernist s believe that modernization is the major tool to resolving environmental issues. Ecomodernist s feel as though society needs to always progress and that humanity cannot ever slow down or else development would stop completely. Ecomodernist s view modernity as the human separation from mastery over nature (Taylor). This perspective stresses the idea of using our technological and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Everest Incident Of 1996 May, 1996. Everest. People died, others were abandoned, and those who lived had to suffer with haunting memories of the mountain. It was nothing short of a catastrophe. It was caused by a multitude of things, but mostly incompetence, inadequate preparation, unenforced guidelines, and unfavorable circumstances. Everything becomes a deciding factor when death is involved, and especially during this perilous expedition. There are many things that could have been put into play to prevent this disaster. A very important one is better preparation for climbing. Simple things, like fixing ropes or getting more radios could have helped immensely, and prevented many deaths. For example, we are shown one possible effect of something basic being ignored ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The weather, specifically, was awful and intense, so much so that you couldn t differentiate anyone who didn t introduce themselves. It took a toll on everyone, being such an extreme blizzard at such an unexpected time. Along with this, everyone was so drained and impaired, and weren t able to help. This caused a few people to die, as they were unrightfully abandoned; one example being Beck Weathers. He was left to perish on the mountain about three times, though he did survive. He suffered a lot, and still does, and due to his unfortunate time on Everest has lost his hand and a few fingers. The summaries do not lie, when they mention Into Thin Air as being a story of bad luck . Bad luck was, in my opinion, the greatest catalyst for this tragic journey. Into Thin Air was very interesting and intriguing for me, most of the way through. I watched a scene play out, a disastrous scene, and was astounded by the fact that all of it was real. I saw how all of these perils and dangers played a role in creating this catastrophe, and I realized how difficult it actually is to get to the top of Everest and survive the descent. It isn t just a simple climb, nor a trek made easy with technology; an expedition is a life deciding experience, and as it occurred in this situation small, fixable mistakes, and bad luck, can turn a life long dream into a ... Edna St. Vincent Millay s sonnet, What lips my lips have kissed and where and why Edna St. Vincent Millay s sonnet, What lips my lips have kissed and where and why, is about being, physically or mentally jaded, and thinking back to the torrid love of one s youth. The ghosts that haunt her are the many lovers of her past; she s specifically trying to remember them all. She recalls the passion she experienced and how there was a certain feeling within herself. Millay shows this through her vivid imagery, use of the rain as a literary device and by paralleling herself with a lonely tree. The use of symbols sets the tone of the piece. The seasons in the poem also can be seen as symbols of time passing in her life. Saying that in the height of her life she was much in love and knew what love was she says this all with four words summer sang in me. And as her life is in decline her lovers left her, this can be told by using winter as a symbol because it is the season of death and decline from life and the birds left the tree in winter. The birds can be seen as a literal symbol of the lovers that have left her or flown away or it can have the deeper meaning that in the last stages of our life all of our memories leave us tittering to our selves. Paralleling herself with a lonely tree really sets into the mind how she feels about love. What birds have vanished one by one. By saying this she speaks about how the birds leave the tree as winter comes and how the tree does not care whether they are there or not. However, the tree does realize that life is a lot quieter. By reading this one can assume that she feels that love plays a very small role in her life over all, but in reading further she writes, I cannot say what loves have come and gone/ I only know that summer sang in me/ A little while, it sings no more. She sounds almost remorseful of the lovers and the memories that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Final Solution from Witnesses to the Holocaust The years of 1941 and 1942 paint a vivid description of ugly, taking place events too hard to take in, and the death of 6 million innocent people. The Final Solution in an excerpt from Witnesses to the Holocaust: An Oral History, where Sam Bankhalter and Hinda Kibort detail their horrifying account of Hitler s rash and day to day life in the Nazi concentration camps where they were imprisoned. The Final Solution was a plan systematically matriculated by the Nazi to exterminate European Jews by placing them in work camps designed for certain death. Sam Bankhalter was just fourteen at the time when he was captured by the Nazis in his native land of Poland and exiled to Auschwitz. In a detailed account he paints the picture of life as a Jew during Hitler s fury and the unimaginable accounts of terror that occurred. According to Bankhalter, racism of European Jews was already occurring in Poland even before Hitler invaded, and their slogan was Jew get out of here and go to Palestine. He accounts of being beaten and spit on the school grounds on a daily basis, long before Hitler invaded. Bankhalter describes his journey to the ghetto as laced with barbed wire and Nazi mocking Jews cutting off men s beards and beating them as they yelled at the Jews to assemble. The Nazi s only gave them about twenty minutes to pack, leaving them time to only gather the necessities, which would only be stripped from them later. Things Fall Apart By Solomon Northup Solomon Northup executed his very gruesome and serious tone throughout his memoir by providing dialogue said by real life people and using diction to give nauseating details to events going on around him throughout his twelve years in bondage. For example, Solomon Northup explains in chapter five how a fellow free slave named Arthur was abused for trying to protest the unfair kidnapping. Solomon states, He fought until his strength failed him. Overpowered at last, he was gagged and bound with ropes, and beaten, until he became insensible. (39). • 18. Analysis Of Phil Collins Land Of Confusion In 1986, a British rock band named Genesis released a song called Land of Confusion. It makes the listener imagine, and take another look at the world and how it is being run. Despite having a high tempo and a loud melody, it s not a song someone can generally dance to. The song s pop rock style gives an upbeat variety of rock music. Pop rock in nature uses only electrical instruments, which gives the song a synthetic sound. Phil Collins voice has a metallic sound which suppresses his British accent. The band usually about romance or a personal experience of someone, but this is a rare political song that questions the wisdom of world leaders at the time. Phil Collins, lead singer and drummer, called it, A political song about the mess we have landed in. It also had a very popular music video that won the 1987 Grammy for Best Concept Music Video. When the song first starts, it sets the tone for the rest of the song. It starts out with first, the drums, electric guitar, and electric keyboard having a very fast and loud melody. This makes the listener think that something is about to happen, which allows the band to convey the message of the song. The first lyrics of the song are, I must ve dreamed a thousand dreams/Been haunted by a million screams/I can hear the marching feet/They re moving into the street./Now did you read the news today/They say the danger s gone away/ But I can see the fire s still alight/Burning into the night. Was Tsar Nicholas Emperor Unfit Tsar Nicholas II of Russia: An Emperor Unfit to Rule Ravaged Russia At the end of the nineteenth century, Tsar Nicholas II of Russia reluctantly took command of an empire overflowing with revolutionaries who were seeking change in response to hardships that their nation was facing. His timid personality, coupled with his lack of political education and military experience, made him unfit to calm the war fueled chaos that would soon envelop Russia. Nicholas series of unfortunate, unprepared and uninformed decisions began with his marriage and eventually ended with his decision to abandon the capital to lead his armies, ultimately leading to the demise of his imperial family s three hundred year dynastic tradition. The turn of the century illuminated Russia, commonly labeled as backwards by the other European powers, as the last remaining European autocracy. Russian society still operated on the estate system, which was characterized by an enormous gap between the upper class nobility and the lower class peasantry. Peasants comprised eighty percent of the population and only a fraction were educated. They had little understanding of government and were highly patriarchal. Many served as serfs. It was not until the 1860s that these serfs were freed from legal bondage by Nicholas grandfather, Alexander II. However, this was not enough to satisfy Russian citizens newfound taste of freedom. Where trouble melts like lemon drops, high above the chimney top, that s where you ll find me. . . are the famous lyrics to Israel Kamakawiwo ole s ukulele song Over The Rainbow . It was also one the first songs I learned on the ukulele. On my birthday, senior year of high school, I received this small instrument with just four strings and the most beautiful sound. Of course, I had no clue on how to play it or where to even begin; whether to learn off YouTube or take lessons, deciding whether to use a pick or not, and even how to hold it correctly. I want to point out, while these might seem like silly issues to worry about, they really are important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I also have indicated one of those individuals already, Brody Shrader, my friend who gave me lessons. On the first day of lessons he led me to an assortment of picks and recommended that I should play with and without a pick and then choose the best way that works for me. I did just that, I had practiced with and without a pick, and then chose what I had preferred. When I interviewed Brody, I asked him the question, What is your opinion on the debate of whether to use a pick when playing the ukulele? He looked at me, kind of gave me a smirk and said I honestly do not know much about this debate but I think it is silly to be argued over, because it is up to the person themselves. Before every ultrasound, you have to prepare the room for the patient by putting a sheet on the bed, putting a pillow cover on the pillow, and retrieving towels for the patient after the ultrasound is over. The sonographers also have to prep the ultrasound machine, and read over the patient s report and information to ensure they know the background of the patient before they come in. The sonographer will then go out to the waiting room to grab the patient, and bring them into the room, ask them certain questions about their medical conditions and ultrasound, and then they will give the patient instructions and preform the ultrasound. The first patient was a middle aged woman, and she came into CDI to receive a pelvic ultrasound to look at her ovaries, kidneys, bladder, and other organs in this area. During this time, I got to see the patient s ovaries and bladder within the ultrasound. The sonographer will be looking to make sure there isn t anything unusual within the ultrasound, and make sure the systems are operating properly. We did ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. A Grand Gothic Torture Chamber in Edgar Allan Poe s Short... Edgar Allan Poe s short story, The Pit and the Pendulum , uses the grand gothic setting of a torture chamber during the Spanish Inquisition that contains a mysterious pit, symbolizing how the absence of religion in the narrator s life makes him fear the unknown. Once the narrator discovers the pit, he is filled with dread at the thought of falling into it: Shaking in every limb, I groped my way back to the wall; resolving there to perish rather than risk the terrors of the wells, of which my imagination now pictured many in various positions about the dungeon (Poe 7). The narrator is a heretic, so he most likely does not accept the idea of life after death. He has likely imagined various fates. Each pit that he has imagined in the room represents a different fate, so he fears falling into them. In fact, the narrator fears falling into the pit more than any other torture inflicted upon him. Poe writes, Neither could I forget what I had read of these pits that the sudden extinction of life formed no part of their most horrible plan (7). Although the narrator does not know himself what will happen to him after death, but no doubt he has read about what happens to heretics after they die according to Christianity: they go to Hell, where they are tortured for eternity. While his body would die, his soul, the source of his life, would be trapped forever. If falling into the pit leads to this fate, the narrator would greatly fear it. Later in the story the pit begins to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. Claude Mckay Meaning Claude McKay wrote the poem, I Know My Soul in an effort to make his readers reach deep inside and see the true being in which they are. We all are filled with certain passions and certain desires, but sometimes we act as if we are not. We try to contain who we are because it doesn t quite fit the mold of what society has so carelessly made for us. Clause challenges his audience to reach deep within themselves and see who they are. The good, the bad, and the not so pretty that is held within our beating hearts and scattered minds is what makes us who we are. We were all so eloquently crafted to be different and we should know our own souls for that very reason. No one human being was, or will ever be made the exact same way. Some of our desires ... McKay states, I plucked my soul out of its secret place, / and held it to the mirror of my eye... (1 2) The narrator is now forced to look at what it is that drives him to do certain things. To examine one s soul means to question all of our desires and every intention we have. Understanding our soul means we are able to see if we are good or bad people. Claude McKay continues on and compares the soul to a star in the sky in order to emphasize that the soul is bright like a star, visible to the naked eye, but it is exposed to so many things. We generally keep our desires hidden within us, even from ourselves. When we question ourselves about our thoughts then it is almost like we are exposing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Capitalism And Colonialism’S Links As Pillars Of White Capitalism and colonialism s links as pillars of white supremacy contribute to the racial exclusion and exploitation of certain racial groups, such as Native Americans and Black people. This can be seen through the timeline of North American history, but also farther back in the history of European settler colonialism throughout Europe and into other nearby continents. The methods of decolonization employed by various racial groups affected by colonialism interact with one another in various ways, as each group was affected differently, yet they were affected by the same instigating group of white settlers. Roxanne Dunbar Ortiz covers much of this in her book Indigenous People s History of the US, where she goes over many historical events contributing to the genocide, exploitation, and exclusion of Native Americans. In the beginnings of white colonial interaction with indigenous people, settlers used native peoples as sources of knowledge on how to live off unfamiliar land: They appropriated what had already been created by Indigenous civilizations. They stole already cultivated farmland and the... crops domesticated over centuries, took control of the deer parks that had been cleared and maintained by Indigenous communities, used existing roads and water routes in order to move armies to conquer, and relied on captured Indigenous people to identify the locations of water, oyster beds, and medicinal herbs (Dunbar Ortiz 46). Without Native Americans, Dunbar Ortiz argues, the European settlers would likely have not survived in the New World at all, for had North America been a wilderness, undeveloped, without roads, and uncultivated, it might still be so, for the European colonists could not have survived (46). This is only the beginning of settler exploitation of Native Americans, though, as settler colonialism later changes its stance of racialized logic to that of exclusion, leading to mass genocide and appropriation of indigenous land. • 53. Still Water Case Study The beautiful town of Stillwater is located on the St. Croix river in the St. Croix River Valley and is known as the Birthplace of Minnesota. The early days of Stillwater were uncertain and uneasy as the land was fought over for many years. The coveted land transitioned from being part of Wisconsin territory to being included in Washington county in 1938. All the while, lumbering interests drew many to the area and white settlers took up residence in Stillwater. One former soldier, Indian trader, Justice of the Peace and promoter, Joseph Renshaw Brown had been in the area since 1820. He had set up a store and farm at Grey Cloud Island and kept a warehouse at the head of Lake St. Croix to supply upriver fur trading operations. This warehouse, which was located where North Stillwater stands today, grew into a small village that he called Dacotah . In 1840 the first ferry was licensed to operate across the St. Croix. • 54. Colorado Water Shortage Essay Colorado s Water Shortage; a Localized Problem with a National Salience The Issue at Hand The State of Colorado has suffered from a water shortage in recent years; a difficult situation which is easily visible when viewing the quickly shortening length of the Colorado River. Lake Mead, for example, is roughly 130 feet lower than it once was, marked by the stained rock which towers above the current water level. The river has become a perfect symbol of what happens when we ask too much of a limited resource: it disappears. In fact, the Colorado no longer regularly reaches the sea (Zielinski, 2010). Legislation was implemented early on to address this issue, though the results were (perhaps not surprisingly) rather unanticipated, regarding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The upper basin states (including Colorado) were allocated a much greater percentage of the water than the lower basin states, while the upper basin states were developing at a much slower rate than those in the lower basin, notably California. Nevada (as of 1997) anticipated being unable to rely just on this water by 2015, while in 1997 California was already exceeding its originally allocated supply by diverting unused water from the upper basin states (Arizona.edu, 1997). It goes without saying that this legislation from the early twentieth century is not going to be sufficient in coming years as the development of these regions has progressed at a much faster rate than originally anticipated, and it is the responsibility of state and federal governments, water management companies, as well as appeals from farmers and non farming residents alike to come to an agreement on how to apportion water and how to implement secondary hydration plans due to the rapidly declining resource that the once magnificent Colorado River was able to supply us ... There must be an establishment of a no fly/humanitarian zone where civilians can receive aid and assistance without the fear of violence from the war.
