Obama Reform Health Care Political Analysis
One of the quintessential promises of Obama s campaign in 2008 was to reform health care. In the
2008 democratic platform, democrats rallied around a commitment that every American man, woman,
and child be guaranteed affordable, comprehensive health care (2008 Democratic Party Platform).
While it was uncertain exactly how reform would look like, Democrats and Obama strove for some
specific qualifications for reform. He promised reform in reproductive health care, promised to lower
drug and health care costs and raise quality of care, promised an end to insurance discrimination, and
promised the oft quoted mantra of if you like your doctor, you ll be able to keep your doctor; if you
like your health care plan, you ll be able to keep your ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Much of the resistance he faced came from the newly blossoming face of the right wing called the Tea
Party (Jacobson 2011). The Tea Party was a group of far right conservatives who painted Obama in the
most extremely negative light possible. They denied his American birth, his religious convictions as a
Christian, and constantly called him tyrant (Jacobson 2011). Seeing the intense opposition to Obama s
health care policy, Republicans in Congress capitalized on the growing movement by obstructing
Obama in the hopes that it would let them retake Congress. With this growing opposition, Obama
faced a new problem with the death of Edward Kennedy of Massachusetts, an influential Senator and
the last of the Kennedy Family. The intense fervor in the Republican base whipped up enough support
to elect Scott Brown, a hardline conservative, to replace Kennedy. This made it substantially harder to
push through the ACA in Congress. Seeing that a bipartisan deal could not be struck, Obama took the
route that Samuel Kernell calls going public (Kernell 2007). Instead of trying to strike deals with
Congress, he took the initiative and tried to sell his plan to the public. This strategy seemed to work
just enough to be able to push through the votes necessary in the House, resulting in a 219 212 vote

Theme Of Communication In The Hunger Games
Every good story has many communication errors and successes in order to create a relatable
entertainment piece. After watching the popular dystopian novel story come to life in film, I have
chosen to dig deeper into the complexity of the ways in which communication plays a key role in the
Hunger Games. To better understand the messages and plot in the story, I will evaluate the character
identities, audience perceptions, and cultural differences that affect the contestants survival.
In the Hunger Games, one young male and one young female are randomly selected from each
District, or town, every year to go into war with one another. Only one of the twenty four make it back
out of the game alive. The mayor announces the chosen ones every year at a ceremony known as the
reaping, where he explains the history and purpose of the games. There was a war in the past between
the Capitol and the Districts. Since the Capitol won, they hold the Hunger Games in honor of their
victory. The story mostly focuses on a specific Hunger Games tribute, Katniss Everdeen, who chose to
volunteer for her sister who was originally chosen as tribute. Katniss and District 12 s boy tribute,
Peeta, are shipped off to train for the games for a few weeks in order to learn more about how the
game is played and how the Capitol actually has a huge hand on who wins depending on their
likeability. People who live in the Capitol actually send survival gifts in the games, which is the key to
winning.

Tule Lake National Wildlife Refuge
The wildlife refuge complex in the Klamath River Basin is part of a migratory bird wetland habitat
system that spans the western seaboard. Wilson (2010) refers to the Pacific Coast wetland habitats as
being like links in a chain that lead birds from wintering grounds to summer breeding habitats, which
are only effective if each one remains intact(p. 7). It is estimated that three quarters of the birds
traveling through this chain make a stop in the Klamath Basin, and roughly half of those can be found
at Tule Lake National Wildlife Refuge in northern California (Foster 2008 ;Wilson 2010 ). Tule Lake
National Wildlife Refuge and it s neighbor Lower Klamath National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) also
serve as sources of farmland for local farmers, who are able to lease lands under the Kuchel Act of
1964 (Kuchel Act 1964). If there is water left over from irrigating farmland, it is allocated to remain
on the refuges to provide wetland habitat for birds. Water scarcity has posed a serious threat to birds
that use the refuges. In 2012, avian cholera killed more than 10,00 birds in the Klamath refuges, a
result of overcrowding in scarce pools of water. In 2014 an average of 100 infected bird carcasses
were discovered a day during the summer months(Jarrell 2014). ... Show more content on

environment and/or landscape. Another positive is if there is a loss of crops in other parts of the
United States, Iowa could carry the weight of those lost crops but it can also be a negative because if
Iowa is one of those states that is experiencing the loss of crops then that is a big portion of the corn
and soybeans being planted for that year. Another negative would be only being able to farm for a
certain part of the year because you only plant two crops which could lead to less jobs and a decrease
in the state of Iowa s economy. This is both an environmental and social issue because, it is about the
environment and how crops can impact it but also how it can impact humans.

How Did Nicholas Sarkozy Ban The Construction Of More...
Amidst the furore instigated by the Swiss minaret referendum in 2009 (Migration Policy Institute,
2009), former French president Nicolas Sarkozy voiced his sympathy and his understanding for the
collective decision to ban the construction of more minarets within Switzerland through an article
titled Respecter ceux qui arrivent, respecter ceux qui accueillent (Sarkozy, 2009b). Sarkozy s article
first appeared in the December 8th publication of Le Monde a French daily newspaper in 2009, and
was subsequently edited and translated by The Guardian, an English news agency based in the United
Kingdom (Sarkozy, 2009a). It is of importance to note that this discourse is based on the translated
(English) version of Sarkozy s article. Given the nature of translations, expressions and connotations

Liberalism Is The Root Of Our American Soil Essay
We have all heard the terms right wing conservatives and left wing liberals, but many people are not
quite sure which wing is correct. Although both sides have good arguments for separate issues, in my
opinion, liberalism should be guiding our thinking when it comes to our economic ways, and political
rights; liberalism is the root of our American soil. Many people believe that steering away from
liberalism is the right way to create change, and build upon our freedoms, but by returning to what our
country was built upon, we can continue the aim of a free, fair and prosperous society. This paper will
guide you through the two main phases of liberalism: classical and modern; their manifestations; and
how as a democracy, liberalism represents a strategy practical for a free society. Liberals believe
government action works to achieve equal opportunity and equalities for every individual in our
society. The government s duty presented here is to alleviate social ills, to protect civil liberties, and
protect individuals and human rights. The government s crucial role in a liberalistic society is to
guarantee that no one is in need, and that liberal policies stress the need for the government to solve
problems. From an egalitarian sense, liberalism focuses on attaining more equal distributions of
income and well being than that that would be generated in the market place otherwise. In a country
where freedom and equality play a major role, taking on liberal policies would

A saturated fat does not have and double bonds while an unsaturated fat has at least one double bond.
This means that saturated fats are solid at room temperature because the single bonds form a straight
molecule that is easily packed together. On the other hand the double bonds in unsaturated fats creates
kinks in the molecule making them liquids at room temperature. Another difference is that saturated
fats have a long shelf life while unsaturated fats spoil quickly. Unsaturated fats are considered to be

South Korea s Historical Struggle With Tyrannical Rule Essay
Abstract Considering South Korea s historical struggle with tyrannical rule, the nation has become
quite a democratic force, mirroring its European and American counterparts. Being a country that
caters to different values, cultures, and social structures, there are some considerable differences of
their Criminal Justice System, specifically their criminal procedures, policing, and prison populations.
However, due to their adaption of Western legal traditions there are similar marks within South Korea
s laws and constitution. Introduction
In the face of the initial plan of a unified Korea in the 1943 Cairo Declaration, intensifying Cold War
resentment between the Soviet Union and the United States, as well as tensions within Korea with the
Korean War, eventually led to the establishment of separate governments, each with its own system,
and to the division of Korea into two political entities in 1948: North Korea and South Korea (Gohar,
1988). South Korea is a relatively small nation in the east located in the Southern portion of the
Korean Peninsula; it shares a properly guarded border with North Korea, a communistic nation. To
give more geographical perspective, South Korea is surrounded by the Yellow Sea and the Sea of
Japan, in which its namesake is not too far off in the southeastern direction. With a population of
around 50 million people, more than half of its people is located in the country s capital, Seoul (Joo,

Great Man Theory Analysis Juli
Julius Caesar was undoubtedly a man who changed history. His life and its story have inspired
generations of awe and scrupulous study. Many would argue he is the most influential man in recorded
history. However, can the great Caesar truly be declared a ‘event making man , according to the
criteria of the Great Man Theory? Did he truly influence the course of history through his own
extraordinary acts of will and leadership? Or was he simply a fortunate man who appeared in the right
place at the right time, being only the pawn of a greater scheme? By following and exploring the

In this, he demonstrated that in politics, Julius Caesar was indeed a great ‘event making man. During
Caesar s famous military career, Caesar showed incredible determination and ingenuity when facing
any opponent. He won battles under impossible odds, and shocked and delighted Romans with his
victories wherever he went. When others doubted him, he proved them wrong. Doubt would
oftentimes even encourage him, and he scoffed at those who fought against him. He was by no means
an ordinary military leader. Of particular note was the combination of his bravery, his ingenuity, and
perhaps most important, his determination. Some may call it stupidity or ignorance, yet Caesar s
unwillingness to lose would win him many famous and prestigious battles. His battles in Gaul and in
Britain brought substantial glory to his name, and gained considerable land for the Roman Empire
which he would soon rule. For nine years he fought campaigns in all of Britain, and after nine long
years he had brought all of Britain into the Roman province. There were more frequent and longer
celebrations in Rome for his victories than for any former general. Caesar was not only ingenious in
his victories of these campaigns, but he also saw their significance elsewhere. They added immense
sums to his already substantial wealth, in the form of annual revenues from annexed lands. They also
increased his fame and popularity, and he was revered almost as a god. As aforementioned,

the actors speeches and acting. In addition to this, the movie succeeded in creating an atmosphere of
magic that Blanche brought up during her genuine conversation with Mitch I don t want realism. I
want magic! Yes, yes, magic. I try to give that to people. I do misrepresent things. I don t tell the truth.
I tell what ought to be truth . Another scene that was included in the movie and became the famous
line and scene is the passage where the enraged and sorrowful Stanley calls out for Stella Hey Stella .
This scene passionately captured and revived the written text, placing the movie on the same level
with the play. Kim Hunter s Stella melts when she hears Stanley s animalistic cry and her face shows
forgiveness and desire. On the other hand, due to the censorship policy, the movie eliminated some
crucial elements that I find important in the building of the character s personality, such as the truth

Pride And Prejudice Social Class
Should being in a different social class have an effect on how you feel about someone? Even if the
person has a pure heart, but low in social status? Jane Austen outlines in Pride and Prejudice the
substances of social class, pride, and women s rights. Austen satirizes the social standing of the upper
classes and how they treated people of the lower class. How the people in the eighteenth century and
also Pride and Prejudice were split into categories by what they have or what they know are very
similar.
In Pride and Prejudice, Austen describes to the reader how women were treated differently from men;
whether it was in education, the workforce, or politically. Women typically did not have an education
in the eighteenth century, as for Elizabeth and her sisters, they were among the girls who was not able
to attend school nor had a governess. Elizabeth may not have had any real teaching, but she learned a
lot from reading in an interrogating conversation with Lady Catherine about her education, Eliza says,
. . . such of us as wished to learn, never wanted the means. We were always encouraged to read and
had all the masters that were necessary. Those who chose to be idle certainly might (Pride and
Prejudice 86). Many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She refused to give in to the social standard of her time. Darcy, who thought Elizabeth was beneath
him, was shocked to find out that Eliza has such a dynamic mind and would not be obsequious to him
(Chin Yi 2). Overall, Elizabeth s strong personality sets her aside in the norm of society. Lady
Catherine, Darcy s prideful aunt, played a major role in the novel. She is in no way a civilized woman.
She believes that you have to have enough money for living and refine. Lady Catherine tries to
intimidate Elizabeth everytime they are around each other, but Elizabeth does not care. Lady
Catherine feels as though Eliza will be hated by most of the upper class

The Culture Of A City
After looking at all of the issues that will affect the people in the city, we must also look at the impact
on the city as a whole. Seattle is known to have a new, hip culture for the younger generation and it s
something that should be preserved. People rely on this unique culture and lifestyle, not corporate
expansion or new offices, to lead a city to success (Kotkin, 2016, p. 38). With higher end housing, it
will attract wealthier, educated individuals who will fulfill the employee demand Amazon is searching
for. Most people go to a city for opportunity, cultural inspiration, and a sense of identity and it s
essential for a city to retain these attributes (Kotkin, 2016, p. 63). But like how Ramos stated, it ll be

They are the newly educated, wealthy, ready to work population that gets attracted by companies and
by what a city can offer, such as food, social scene, and lifestyle. I think it s important to address that
Boston has a large variety of people due to all of the colleges located in the city. There is already a
creative class ready to live and work after their college education, but just not necessarily in Boston.
Why are these smart and young individuals leaving the city? Well, there are a lot of reasons, but
mainly because of the housing. It is hard for these graduates to afford these apartments, nonetheless
houses, at such a young age while still trying to find a job. Like Jesse Mermell, president of a business
group Alliance for Business Leadership, says, Our No. 1 resource in Massachusetts is our talent our
brainpower, and we are losing the brains because people can t afford to live here (Kirsner, 2017).
Clearly, being able to retain these people is hard for the city. Having Amazon settle in Boston might
only lead to more of these individuals leaving for good and never coming back. The creative class is
essential for a city s culture and growth, so the city must find a way to make them stay.
Of course, I don t agree that Amazon is the sole culprit of these results, the city is also to blame, as
Bertolet, a senior researcher at the Seattle think tank Sightline, also claims (Ramos, 2017). People
believe that modern, affordable housing and

Dialectical Behavior Therapy And Mindfulness Essay
Dialectical Behavior Therapy Mindfulness Mindfulness is another way of meditation. Meditation was
used to seek to improve one s psychological or physical health, or spiritual growth. (Brantley, 2007).
The history of Mindfulness comes from Buddhism and his search for enlightenment and a foundation
of the four noble truths. The Buddha teaching focus on the four noble truths which consist of knowing
suffering exists, there is a cause of suffering, there is cessation of suffering and there is a path that
leads to the cessation of suffering. (Van Gordon, 2015). The four noble truths were not only there to
represent the Buddha s experiential understanding of suffering, but also to express the truth (Van
Gordon, 2015). Studies of Buddhism and the Four Noble Truths teach us that there is always going to
be suffering in our life but to find ways to overcome suffering (Tsering, 2005). Over the years
Mindfulness has been a way to treat a variety of health related conditions anywhere form stress,
anxiety and even cancer (M.Orsillo, 2010). Practicing mindfulness does not relate directly to any
specific faith or religious beliefs. Mindfulness inside the practice of social work was implemented to
help those with suicidal thoughts and borderline personality disorder. DBT teaches individuals the
skill to not be judgmental. Being non judgmental can be a difficult skill these days because we were
raised or taught to have different thoughts and points of views (Brantley, 2007).

7 Features Of Macro Photography
To put it simply, macro photography is a fancy way of saying extreme close up or magnified image.
These objects are magnified to their actual life size or even greater.
WHAT IS MACRO PHOTOGRAPHY?
Have you ever wondered what that little flower symbol is on your camera? Who said you had to be a
professional photographer to take extremely close photos? The Macro mode will surprise you with its
incredible features. Taking photos so extremely close to an object is like entering a different world in
photography. Macro photos bare a real uniqueness that no other genre of photography can show. The
macro world is one of the most popular and fascinating forms of photography out there. It allows us to
take pictures so close to an object from a smaller, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first lens creates the image and the second enlarges the object.
Tripod
Having a tripod is important in macro photography because it helps keep the camera stable while
being so close. This helps prevent the picture turning out blurry or unfocused.
7 steps on how to capture that perfect Macro shot
MACRO MODE
1. You will need to turn your camera on to macro mode . There should be a small symbol that looks
like a tulip flower on the settings that will switch it to macro. Doing this will change the zoom and
allow you to capture images at its actual size.
STABILITY
2. Set your tripod up in a position that is stable and not moveable. Macro photography requires no
camera movement and a lot of focus. The closer you get to the object, the more it will shake while
trying to take the picture. To avoid this, make sure your tripod is sturdy and will not shake.
LIGHTING
3. If there is not enough natural lighting or you re in a dark room, you will need to use flash or you can
make your own artificial lighting. You can create a golden effect by using gold tinfoil to reflect onto
the object. Natural lighting is always going to be a better option rather than using flash or artificial

juvenile crime itself. Is an aim to evaluate the reduction in national juvenile arrest, narcotics offenses,

trends for arresting data of juveniles. According to the (Juvenile Justice Bulletin, 2000). Determining
juvenile crime statistics the arrest data report the amount of arrest made by law enforcement in a
precise year nor the amount of individual arrested nor the amount of crimes committed. Data about
juvenile crime, in particular violent crime, and statistics about the size and characteristics of the
juvenile population have played an important part in the policy debates (Zimring, 1998).
Overall Decrease in Juvenile Arrest
Juvenile crime rates are a significant portion of the UCR statistics. (Uniform Crime Report). Most of
the crimes in which juveniles committed were in fact violent crimes. The main crimes that were

Kirk Cameron Misconceptions
There are many common misconceptions about the actor, Kirk Cameron. In fact, he wrote a whole
chapter over those misconceptions. He said that most of his admirers think of him as a person that is
always perfect. He said that he was not that nice or good at everything. Kirk was a prankster, didn t
practice his lines, and overall was not a super thoughtful person. His audience thinks of him as
someone that has everything together, but I believe if I asked him today if his life was together, he
would most likely say No. Although, he is an ultra humble person, I don t know how true that would
be. Another common misconception about Kirk Cameron is that he is very stuck up and proud even
though he just wants people to see him as a normal person and judged by what he does not that he is in
a movie. Kirk Cameron has been influenced by many people including: his wife, his wife s dad, and
the preacher at his spouses church. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Abortion Vs Abortion
Last August 15, Greg Abbott governor of Texas, signed House Bill 214 into law, banning Texas
insurers from covering abortions in general plans, despite protests from pro choice activists that the
bill should exempt pregnancies from rape, incest, and fetuses with critical medical conditions.
Governor Abbott expressed, I am proud to sign legislation that ensures no Texan is ever required to
pay for a procedure that ends the life of an unborn child. Texas will now require women to buy
additional insurance policies for abortion coverage. This decision generated all kinds of reactions
among the Americans. Some of the Republicans members expressed their disagreement with the new
ban. Rep. Chris Turner said, Women don t plan to be raped. Parents don t plan for their children to be
victims of incest, he said. Asking a woman or a parent to foresee something like that and buy
supplemental insurance to cover that horrific possibility is not only ridiculous, it is cruel (US. News).
The current conflict between pro life and pro choice movements intensified after 1973 when the
United States Supreme Court decided that a woman s constitutional right to privacy precludes a state
from prohibiting her from obtaining an abortion on demand during the first trimester of pregnancy
(Stewart et al. 263). The Supreme Court determined that fetal life was a viable human only after the
first six months of pregnancy. From this event, the pro choice activists have exposed different
arguments

While reading Lifeboat Ethics: the Case Against Helping the Poor by Garrett Hardin, I found myself
agreeing with what he had to say throughout most of his essay, for this reason I decided to write about

helping the poor. Saying that outright sounds cruel and selfish but in the end, it isn t. Putting things

of saying it, Hardin is right when you stop and think about it. As barbaric as it sounds, without that
natural population control those countries would grow at an exponential rate and the impoverished
conditions would go thru the roof cause the gap between the rich and the poor to become ocean wide.
Some people believe that the answer to food shortages is genetically fixed food that survive better in
bad weather conditions and although that may help but in this section titled Chinese Fish and Miracle

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Exclusive Jurisdiction
Statutory exclusive jurisdiction is a form of the international jurisdiction, which is always regulated by
the mandatory norms of the law and which may not be overridden by an agreement on jurisdiction by
the defendant s voluntary submission to the different forum. It has imperative character and stands on
the fact that the matters involved in the exclusive jurisdiction rules are closely linked to the state
sovereignty or the territory of the state and in these situations, the state interest prevails over the
private. This means that the state has a special interest to make its courts hear the dispute despite other
controversial circumstances (such as for instance the agreement on the jurisdiction of a different
court), exclude any possibility to transfer the case and the most important, do not allow the
recognition and enforcement of foreign judgments, which are made with the violation of the exclusive
jurisdiction rules. This special state interest is legally justified and admissible. Therefore, the
provisions of the exclusive jurisdictions prescribe that, if the subject matter of the dispute is one of the
specifically indicated therein, only the courts pointed there have jurisdiction to hear the dispute and
settle it.

How Did Rock Music Influence The Music Of The 20th Century
Music styles of different time periods influenced the diversity of many genres. The music styles and
genres of the 20th century all started from one point and continue to expand over time. The style of
jazz music built the basis for rock n roll music, and the style of rock n roll music built the basis for
pop music. Basic rhythms, inspirational lyrics, and the emotion the music style exerts all contribute to
the creation of new genres. The process of evolution influenced by multiple styles created the music of
the 20th Century. The prominent music of the early 20th century was the sleek rhythms of jazz and
blues. The field hollers, hymns, and work songs from African Americans in the 1800s created the base

Twenties jazz, 50s rock, and 80s hip hop determined the sound the pop genre. The sound consisted of
simple and clean repeating melodies with a beat to dance to. The creation of pop music occurred
around the time of the invention of the television making it accessible to mass market around the
world (Pop Music). With the outbreak of rock n roll in the 50s, the 60s consisted of the reinvention of
rock n roll by John Lennon, Eric Clapton, and Mick Jagger. The Beatles also reinvented the rock n roll
sound to pop during the British Invasion as rock n roll s fresh and early energy of the 50s and early
60s had declined (Norton, 823). The Beatles influenced the pop genre commercially and artistically by
validating that rock n roll could embrace a limitless variety of harmonies, structures, and sounds (The
Beatles Bio). Disco and dance music emerged from the pop genre in the 70s. The ephemeral disco era
influenced the style of music from artists Rod Stewart and Diana Ross through the rhythms and tunes
of music from stars like The Bee Gees and Gloria Gaynor (Popular Music). Stars such as Madonna,
Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, and Prince began to emerge in the 80s, and they influenced
American music through up and coming music videos. They also influenced prominent 80s fashion
trends that were portrayed through their music videos. Artists of the 80s continued to revive their
music personal styles to keep up with the youth of the new generations (Music Played). Ambitious boy
bands influenced the pop music of the 90s era. East 17 and Take that in Britain influenced America s

  • 2. Obama Reform Health Care Political Analysis One of the quintessential promises of Obama s campaign in 2008 was to reform health care. In the 2008 democratic platform, democrats rallied around a commitment that every American man, woman, and child be guaranteed affordable, comprehensive health care (2008 Democratic Party Platform). While it was uncertain exactly how reform would look like, Democrats and Obama strove for some specific qualifications for reform. He promised reform in reproductive health care, promised to lower drug and health care costs and raise quality of care, promised an end to insurance discrimination, and promised the oft quoted mantra of if you like your doctor, you ll be able to keep your doctor; if you like your health care plan, you ll be able to keep your ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Much of the resistance he faced came from the newly blossoming face of the right wing called the Tea Party (Jacobson 2011). The Tea Party was a group of far right conservatives who painted Obama in the most extremely negative light possible. They denied his American birth, his religious convictions as a Christian, and constantly called him tyrant (Jacobson 2011). Seeing the intense opposition to Obama s health care policy, Republicans in Congress capitalized on the growing movement by obstructing Obama in the hopes that it would let them retake Congress. With this growing opposition, Obama faced a new problem with the death of Edward Kennedy of Massachusetts, an influential Senator and the last of the Kennedy Family. The intense fervor in the Republican base whipped up enough support to elect Scott Brown, a hardline conservative, to replace Kennedy. This made it substantially harder to push through the ACA in Congress. Seeing that a bipartisan deal could not be struck, Obama took the route that Samuel Kernell calls going public (Kernell 2007). Instead of trying to strike deals with Congress, he took the initiative and tried to sell his plan to the public. This strategy seemed to work just enough to be able to push through the votes necessary in the House, resulting in a 219 212 vote (Murray and Montgomery ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Wilson (2010) refers to the Pacific Coast wetland habitats as being like links in a chain that lead birds from wintering grounds to summer breeding habitats, which are only effective if each one remains intact(p. 7). It is estimated that three quarters of the birds traveling through this chain make a stop in the Klamath Basin, and roughly half of those can be found at Tule Lake National Wildlife Refuge in northern California (Foster 2008 ;Wilson 2010 ). Tule Lake National Wildlife Refuge and it s neighbor Lower Klamath National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) also serve as sources of farmland for local farmers, who are able to lease lands under the Kuchel Act of 1964 (Kuchel Act 1964). If there is water left over from irrigating farmland, it is allocated to remain on the refuges to provide wetland habitat for birds. Water scarcity has posed a serious threat to birds that use the refuges. In 2012, avian cholera killed more than 10,00 birds in the Klamath refuges, a result of overcrowding in scarce pools of water. In 2014 an average of 100 infected bird carcasses were discovered a day during the summer months(Jarrell 2014). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although both sides have good arguments for separate issues, in my opinion, liberalism should be guiding our thinking when it comes to our economic ways, and political rights; liberalism is the root of our American soil. Many people believe that steering away from liberalism is the right way to create change, and build upon our freedoms, but by returning to what our country was built upon, we can continue the aim of a free, fair and prosperous society. This paper will guide you through the two main phases of liberalism: classical and modern; their manifestations; and how as a democracy, liberalism represents a strategy practical for a free society. Liberals believe government action works to achieve equal opportunity and equalities for every individual in our society. The government s duty presented here is to alleviate social ills, to protect civil liberties, and protect individuals and human rights. The government s crucial role in a liberalistic society is to guarantee that no one is in need, and that liberal policies stress the need for the government to solve problems. From an egalitarian sense, liberalism focuses on attaining more equal distributions of income and well being than that that would be generated in the market place otherwise. • 29. Abortion Vs Abortion Last August 15, Greg Abbott governor of Texas, signed House Bill 214 into law, banning Texas insurers from covering abortions in general plans, despite protests from pro choice activists that the bill should exempt pregnancies from rape, incest, and fetuses with critical medical conditions. Governor Abbott expressed, I am proud to sign legislation that ensures no Texan is ever required to pay for a procedure that ends the life of an unborn child. Texas will now require women to buy additional insurance policies for abortion coverage. This decision generated all kinds of reactions among the Americans. Some of the Republicans members expressed their disagreement with the new ban. Rep. Chris Turner said, Women don t plan to be raped. Parents don t plan for their children to be victims of incest, he said. Asking a woman or a parent to foresee something like that and buy supplemental insurance to cover that horrific possibility is not only ridiculous, it is cruel (US. News). The current conflict between pro life and pro choice movements intensified after 1973 when the United States Supreme Court decided that a woman s constitutional right to privacy precludes a state from prohibiting her from obtaining an abortion on demand during the first trimester of pregnancy (Stewart et al. 263). The Supreme Court determined that fetal life was a viable human only after the first six months of pregnancy. From this event, the pro choice activists have exposed different arguments ... Garrett Hardin Lifeboat Ethics Essay While reading Lifeboat Ethics: the Case Against Helping the Poor by Garrett Hardin, I found myself agreeing with what he had to say throughout most of his essay, for this reason I decided to write about it for my essay. About halfway through I thought that he was very good at presenting his case against helping the poor. Saying that outright sounds cruel and selfish but in the end, it isn t. Putting things into analogies it sometimes the only way to make people understand the point that you are trying to get across. Hardin provides the statistic that poor countries increase by 2.5% each year whereas poor countries increase by .08% each year and although yes, people dying is sad but the overpopulation of poor countries and shortage of food it somewhat of a natural population control. Although it is a blunt way of saying it, Hardin is right when you stop and think about it. As barbaric as it sounds, without that natural population control those countries would grow at an exponential rate and the impoverished conditions would go thru the roof cause the gap between the rich and the poor to become ocean wide. Some people believe that the answer to food shortages is genetically fixed food that survive better in bad weather conditions and although that may help but in this section titled Chinese Fish and Miracle Rice Hardin disagreed with that statement and in this particular section he didn t so as well of a job getting his point across as he did in previous sections because he compared it to cancer and in my opinion it was a stretch and didn t quite make any ... Advantages And Disadvantages Of Exclusive Jurisdiction Statutory exclusive jurisdiction is a form of the international jurisdiction, which is always regulated by the mandatory norms of the law and which may not be overridden by an agreement on jurisdiction by the defendant s voluntary submission to the different forum. It has imperative character and stands on the fact that the matters involved in the exclusive jurisdiction rules are closely linked to the state sovereignty or the territory of the state and in these situations, the state interest prevails over the private.
