The Perils Of Man Analysis
I have always enjoyed Point Click Adventure games there was always something magical about
the storytelling, quirky animation and puzzles that always seemed to attract me that genre of
gaming. While my nostalgia takes me back to the 90s, much has changed in the world of video
games. The days of Monkey Island and Grim Fandango have long past, still, the genre remains
strong. Titles like The Perils of Man are a good example of what fans of the genre are happy to see.
Personally, I always thought that a good adventure game needed to have a great story. It never
mattered to me how long or short the story was just as long as it captivated me while playing.
The Perils of Man main story is short and sweet. The premise for a favorable story is

Global Positioning System Essay
Global Positioning System
Wouldn t it be great if you could be sure that you would never be lost again? That you would
know exactly where you were at all times, whether at land, air, or sea. Well, that is possible with
modern technology. More specifically, that is possible with the help of GPS, the Global
Positioning System. GPS is a navigational tool that has recently become extremely popular because
of it wide range of uses. Whether you are a fisherman or an avid traveler, you could find some use
for GPS. And with GPS becoming more and more affordable, it won t belong until everyone is
using it.
The Global Positioning System (GPS) was developed by the US Department of Defense in hopes

After taking a third measurement and a third sphere is imagined, the possible points are then
narrowed down to only two. These are the two points in which all three spheres intersect. In most
cases, one of the points can be immediately thrown out because it is an unreasonable answer. That
leaves only the correct position.
In order to measure the distance of the satellites, GPS receivers measure the time it takes for radio
signals sent from the satellite to reach the base station on Earth. Once we have the precise time it
takes we can plug that number into a simple equation and we have our answer.
Speed of light * the precise time = Distance of the Satellite
The speed of light is the easy part; it is 186,000 miles per hour. It is measuring the precise time
that is so difficult. To solve this problem, something called the Pseudo Random Code (PRC) was
developed. The PRC is a complicated sequence of on and off pulses that is given off by both the
satellite and the base station. The PRC from both the satellite and the base station are played at
the exact same time and are then compared. When played, the two PRCs will be slightly out of
sync because one set of signals has to travel from the satellite in space. The time is measured on
the basis of this sync ratio and the distance can then be calculated. The Global Positioning System
(GPS) is used by an almost endless amount of people and professions. Although originally designed

How Does Shakespeare Use Deception In The Merchant Of Venice
Self expression is the human capability of revealing the attributes and features of one s self.
However, humans have the ability to methodically select how cohabiting individuals will perceive
his or her character. Through lies and secrets, a human being distorts their true self from the
perception of another. William Shakespeare s The Merchant Of Venice
contains situations in which
characters lie to conceal their secrets and self. First, Jessica, the Jewish moneylender s daughter,
uses lies to escape her father s house and elope with her love. Secondly, Shylock, the Jewish
moneylender in Venice, suppresses his motives and thoughts in the presences of his Venetian
neighbours. Lastly, lies are used by Bassanio, an Italian lord of Venice, as he appears to be a
wealthy man but is truly in debt. Clearly, Shakespeare uses the theme appearance versus reality to
disguise true intentions and deceive characters.
First, in the intensity and entanglement of love, Jessica deceives and defrauds her father to elope
with Lorenzo, a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unquestionably, Shylock behaves out of character while creating the bond with Antonio and
Bassanio. Despite the Jew s hatred for Antonio, he is willing to loan him money. Antonio says,
Content, in faith! I ll seal to such a bond, and say there is much kindness in the Jew (1.3.148 49).
This quote confirms Antonio s trust in Shylock s fake kindness and friendly behaviour. Shylock s
obsession with the idea of Antonio in a difficult situation is the primary reason why he agrees to
loan his money and creates the bond out of hatred and villainy but masks his evil hopes in the
presences of Antonio. Antonio is unaware of the seriousness and terms of the bond having
believed the forfeit of a pound of flesh was a joke. Shylock deviously tricks the merchant with the
appearance of kindness in hopes of catching Antonio at a

James Meredith Impact On Civil Life
When James Meredith recalled the events that happened on Sept. 20, 1962, all he said was I
considered myself engaged in a war from day one (James Meredith Quotes). But what does this
mean? In 1962, there was lots of segregation occurring, and that includes the town of Oxford,
Mississippi. The University of Mississippi(Ole Miss) was segregated at the time, and there were a
lot of problems when they found out that 29 year old James Meredithwanted to enroll, especially
because he had colored skin. He knew that there was going to be some people who would disagree
with the idea, but he didn t realize how far they would take it. James Meredith was born in
Kosciusko, Mississippi, on June 25, 1933. He is the son of Moses and Roxie Meredith, and was
raised on a farm with 9 siblings. When he was old enough, served in the United States Air Force
for 9 years. After he served, he enrolled in JacksonState College, which was for colored skin only.
He studied there until 1961, and eventually sent his application to go to the University of
Mississippi. At first, they were not aware of his skin color, and initially accepted him, but then

school about the riot. This award was the first award he had accepted in the last 50 years. He
gave hope to African Americans wanting to get into all white colleges and schools. He also helps

What Are The Basic Concepts Of Liberty Each Civilized...
What are the basic concepts of liberty each civilized individual reserves? What are the limits to
which a person can accept and exercise such sovereignty? In the first chapter, Introductory , and
the second, Of the Liberty of Thought and Discussion , J.S Mill displays such limits and
provides an analysis and debate to the common concepts of how an individual works within a
society, while simultaneously diverging into how society works with and against a sole figure. In
On Liberty, he construes the conflict between liberty and authority and administers the historical
diversity amongst social classes. Within the Introductory chapter, Mill definitively expresses the
extensive history of the struggles of authority versus liberty. He sets this with time periods as far
back as ancient Greece, Rome, and England. The hierarchy of classes sets the precedence for the
amount of liberty an individual reaps. Mill explains, ... [the government s] power was regarded as
necessary, but also as highly dangerous; as a weapon which they would attempt to use against their
subjects... (Mill 2). This exertion of power left the lower classes weak, with a minimal say in
government. By inheritance of power, the lack of expression in lower classes consistently remained
throughout the years. This is the initial claim from Mill, that wealthier individuals maintained the
most liberty in early societies, due to possessing the most money. To oppose this, patriots attempted
to limit the set

Kendrick Lamar s Music And Music
Kendrick Lamar has lyrics that are hard, but within those lyrics is a description of his childhood
which was even harder. To provide some background on Kendrick Lamar, he grew up in Piru
territory of Compton, also know as Bompton. His parents both used drugs, and listened to many
different types of music ranging from, Jazz and blues to gangsta rap. Any hip hop fan should be
familiar with Kendrick s name, they should also be familiar with his music. The fact that Kendrick
Lamar isn t being recognized as a legend this early in his career slightly upsets me.
Kendrick Lamar s newer music is underappreciated because of the unique sound and thought
provoking lyrics. Many people don t listen to music for the full experience; they just listen for
some background noise. According to a study published by Edison Research, in May 2014,
52.1% of the music listened to by Americans every day is on the Radio. To think that over half of
the music heard every day is probably coming from car speakers, a dusty radio on your grandfather
s workbench, or that little radio tucked in a corner in your kitchen, is astounding. People that listen
to music on the radio normally don t concentrate on the music. Music is typically used to
accompany a mundane task, or another source of entertainment, like a puzzle. It is also very
common to listen to music while working. And while listening to music while doing other tasks isn
t a negative thing, people don t know what they are listening to. This

Summary Of H. M. Irwing s Curve Couture
Curve Couture by H. M. Irwing starts with Claire Williams royally messing up! Claire has
always stuck out in the cutthroat world of modeling, and being a plus sized woman surrounded
by svelte and hunky supermodels day in and day out has done a number on her self confidence.
What started as commiseration and comfort with her sister s fiancГ©, Colin, swiftly became her
first time going all the way. Claire is consumed by guilt for betraying her sister, Janice. The
problem is that Janice, a well known supermodel, is also Claire s one and only client. Upon
deciding that she can no longer represent her sister after her ultimate betrayal, Claire approaches
retired male supermodel turned agent, Erin Robertson. She begs Erin to take on Janice as a client;
however, Erin refuses and shocks Claire by asking to sign her on as a plus sized modelinstead.
What follows is a swift and awkwardly produced romance between Claire and Erin. Claire, who
has never attracted male attention until her slip up with Colin, has suddenly become desirable in
the eyes of all single, straight men who cross her path. Erin is no different as he works to mold

The Fax Machine – A Constantly Evolving Technology...
Despite the availability of advanced modern day technologies for transferring documents
worldwide, the fax machine, a technology developed way back in 1843, continues to persist in
homes and offices even today. Considering the fact that this technology is more than a century old,
it should have already joined the telegraphs and pagers in antique shops by now. Surprisingly
however, instead of going obsolete, faxmachines have continued to evolve, adapt and conform to
the requirements of modern telecommunications. The fax machine had already made its mark as an
office workhorse back in the 1980s, and has continued to appear on business cards ever since!

Newspapers and weather services were the earliest users of fax machines for transferring
photographs and weather maps across the world. The use of fax machines was however limited
because of their expensive nature and difficulty of operation. However, by 1980, telephone
based fax machines had gained immense popularity because of their reduced prices and fixed
Grade 3 standards of operation. About a million fax machines were sold in 1988 alone, and they
became the fastest selling machines adorning homes and office desktops word wide. Fax
machines proved to be of immense utility to the Japanese. The Japanese alphabet has thousands of
characters, and keypads can only afford a limited number of keys. Fax machines provided the
Japanese an easy way to transfer their written documents. According to the American facsimile
association, about 50% of all calls made in the 1980s to the US from Japan were to fax machines.
Frank Vizard, contributing editor of the Popular Mechanics magazine, writes that increasing
popularity of fax machines blurred the line between the home and the office, as business
documents could easily be faxed to homes within seconds. People dealt with work related
documents from the comforts of their homes. Fax machines soon replaced postal mailboxes and
reduced the time of delivery of documents. This was both a convenience as well as an
inconvenience, as people could no longer find an excuse

The Importance Of A Cultural Framework That Is Suitable...
1.0 INTRODUCTION
Budgets are very important part of business environment. They are considered to be essential key
drivers and evaluators for planning and control as well as managerial performance since 1920
(Reka et al., 2014). This report aims to investigate how to promote a cultural framework that is
suitable for the modern dynamic business environment. Firstly, it will explain the concept of
budgetary control, It will then point out advantages and disadvantages of the current traditional
system and how some weaknesses can be addressed by implementing Beyond Budgeting (BB) using
practical examples of organisations that have been successful and what were the problems that they
have encountered. It will also discuss why some organisations ... Show more content on

2.2 Benefits of Traditional Budgeting
Budgeting is a management control technique that can be used as an early warning system.
Budgets are of great help as a support performance management (Pietrzak, 2013). It can provide a
detailed information insight of the next fiscal year, which allows managers to set performance
objectives much more easily, make decisions and plan ahead. For example: When recession hit
Europe in 2008, Davis Service Group was able to assess effects and was able to build new and
accurate theories for the remainder of 2008. By recognizing and handling risks, Davis has been
able to return profits, dividends and cash flow for shareholders in a challenging economic
environment.
Budgets generate a point of reference, making it easier for managers to accomplish activities with
stability. As long as managers can meet the set parameters, budgeting and the use of budgetcost
centers provide them with the liberty to run their operations (Neely at al., 2003).
Budgets are a great communication tool used when obtaining information about company or e.g.
activities of its competitors. They also help in expressing ideas, goals and strategies of projects
between team members/employees and outside resources or potential investors, motivating
employee to drive forward.
2.3 Drawbacks of Traditional Budgeting
To make budgets is a very long and time consuming process, when organisations are trying to get

Welcome to Rick s: A Closer Look to the Introduction of Rick When the opening of the film
Casablanca (Michael Curtiz, 1942) first introduces Rick at Rick s , many indications of his
character are shown. He is sophisticated, mysterious, and a hard thinker. These traits are shown by
his playing chess by himself and wearing very expensive, well kept clothing. The Rick
Introduction scene in the film is able to give the audience an immediate perspective on who Rick

characteristics of Rick which are: mysterious, complicated, discriminating, and headstrong by just

We see an over the shoulder shot to indicate the conversation being held between Rick and the
German man. We then see a shot reverse shot, showing that both of these characters are engaged
with each other. When looking at the acting of Rick, his voice looks calm and his face looks at
ease. This suggests that people cannot get to him (get in his head, or persuade him). This scene
has huge importance since people can implicitly assume that Rick does not take sides, and only
cares about himself. By looking at the color of costumes between Rick and the German man
indicates that Rick is good based on his white tuxedo, and the other man is not (he is wearing
black). The costume of Rick plays a major role in determining he is a good character. A major part
scene in particular implicitly that his character is discriminating and headstrong. Maybe the most
important part of this scene suggests Rick has sympathy for the Allies. By him letting people with
less money, and less prominent into the bar, you can infer that he must feel something. Also by not
letting a wealthy German into the bar, and letting a criminal like Ugarte in, he must have some sort
of negative feelings to the Germans. After his encounter with the German man, Rick has a
discussion with Ugarte. When they are talking together, Rick appears to be extremely taller than
Ugarte. This technique known as forced perspective, makes Rick seem even more

Comparing Ovid s The Myth Of Daedalus And Icarus
The myth of Daedalus and Icarus has been approached by many different artists with many
differing depictions of the event. Some artists such as Ovid, chose to focus on Daedalus and Icarus
and leave everyone else out. Other artists, for instance, Pieter Bruegel the Elder and W. H. Auden,
have much more panoramic views of the situation and include others in their works. Different
approaches can leave the readers with different understandings of this ancient myth.
In Ovid s The Myth of Daedalus and Icarus, the author uses a third person point of view to closely
follow Daedalus and Icarus. From this, readers are more tightly attached to the characters and
know more about them. Readers of this story witness the inventing and engineering of the wings
by Daedalus and know the conflicting desires of Daedalus to escape from prison and to protect
his son. One thing that is emphasized in this story is the overwhelming sorrow of Daedalus, both
before due to fear of Icarus falling, and after due to the loss of his son. Ovid includes ... Show more

little mention in this poem. The underlying theme of this poem is that suffering is surrounded by
the busyness of everyday life. Even this poem is a perfect example of the overshadowing of
suffering by other things, itself overshadowing the tragic demise of Icarus with other mundane
events. This also places Icarus story in the hands of an outsider, leading readers to become less

are the plumes that are being ejected from them. These plumes are filled with chemicals
commonly known in the global climate world as emissions; these emissions deplete the ozone and
are causing significant impacts on Earth s ecological environment. Everyone is guilty of creating
and releasing emissions. While individuals do have an impact, they do not have as large of an
impact on the environment as power plants. Power plants are usually running 24 hours a day, seven

In 1993, a fourth unit was added; in addition to burning coal and natural gas, it can also burn a small

recovery steam generator ( History n.d.).
Producing approximately 100 megawatts per hour, this plant needs an exorbitant amount of
fuel source to provide this energy ( Generating Power n.d.). Since 1965, the fuel source for this
power plant has largely been coal. MSU promotes itself as a green campus, and coal emits a
large amounts of emissions; therefore, there has been a shift away from coal. Also, with the
new EPA regulations, it would have cost more money to redesign the units to meet these
standards burning coal than it would to switch to natural gas ( MSU to Stop 2015). This is why
by the end of 2016, MSU will be switching to natural gas as the main fuel source for this power
plant. Instead of coal being the main fuel source, it will now be natural gas; using natural gas in
place of coal will reduce emissions by approximately 50 percent (Pacala 2004, 969). This is a big
step towards MSU s goals of being a green campus and using sustainable energy. However, while
natural gas has lower emissions, it does cost more than coal. In September of 2015, Powder River

research on your own to identify a company that has used the second main approach (i.e., a

Essentially the change it made was number three in the listing detailed in section 10.6 of our text it
changed the configuration of factories, warehouses, or retail locations. When work usually
performed internally, is delegated to another firm, the company is said to outsource the work. Such
is the case in the construction of the Boeing 787. The companies involved include Messier
Bughatti of France, Rolls Royce of the UK, Alenia Aeronatuica of Italy, Mitsubishi Heavy
Industries of Japan and Chjengdu Aircraft Group of China. This outsourcing decision means that
85% of the construction of this aircraft is supplied by strategic supply partners of Boeing. Those
parts are eventually shipped to the Boeing plant in Washington by road, rail, sea and plane for final
assembly of the Dreamliner.
There are several other ways to make supply chain improvements. One of those ways includes the
pursuit of major process simplification. This is used to improve supply chains when the processes
have become so complex or so out of date that they are no longer cost efficient or no longer
effective to maintain. It is said that a clean slate approach is taken when the new processes are
designed from scratch without any consideration of the former process methods. This overhaul
includes not only major changes to the production itself but also includes changes made in the way

Bird Told Me
Hey Biz,
As you can tell this email is over 140 characters. My apologizes in advance.
I m about to enter my junior year at Vanderbilt University in Nashville and I don t really have any
idea what I want to do once I graduate from college. I recently read Things A Little Bird Told Me
and I really related to your story (minus the part, where you co founded one of the world s most
popular web tools).
1.Opportunity can totally be manufactured: I have learned this opportunity at numerous points in
my life, however, the opportunity that stands out the most for me is when I got the New York
Times (NYT) to give me a blog on their website. Every year, the NYT used to select 8 students
from around the world to blog for them during their college search. I read this blog series for a
number of years and when I became a high school senior, I decided that I wanted to try to be one
of the students selected. However, I realized that the NYT would never reach out to my small
underfunded NYC public school so I reached out to them. I told them about the perspective that I

We both faked our way into Google: During my senior year of high school, I applied for a
program called Google Computer Science Summer Institute, which aims to expose students
with a passion for computer science to opportunities in CS at Google. The issue is I had never
done anything with CS before and to get into the program you were required to do a technical
interview. The night before the interview I learned a slew of technical terms like Java, Python,
Syntax Error etc. and read an online article on interviews. The article said that according to a
study you were more likely to get a job if you mention the interviewer s name at least three times.
When it came time to interview, I threw out all my coding buzzwords, tried to keep up with the
coding problem, and kept repeating my interviewer s name. I spent that summer at Google s

Comparing Perfection in Artist of the Beautiful, Rappaccini s Daughter, Birthmark and Prophetic

In four of Hawthorne s stories there is a struggle for power and control as a vehicle to obtain
perfection or beauty. In The Artist of the Beautiful , Rappaccini s Daughter, The Birthmark and The
Prophetic Pictures the characters are controlled by their desire for perfection in their creations, but
they do not achieve their goals without sacrifice.

His desire for knowledge through scientific experimentation is the central purpose of his life.
According to Baglioni he cares infinitely more for science than for mankind . By binding his
daughter to the poisonous garden Rappaccini had used his power as a scientist to take away her
freedom. Beatrice has no power, she is helpless. There was an awful doom...the effect of my
father s fatal love of science, which estranged me from all society of my kind . Unfortunately she
is also the victim of Baglioni s quest for power and revenge against her father. Baglioni s power,
convincing Giovanni that Beatrice could be saved, conquers even Rappaccini s control. In their
obsessive pursuit of knowledge and power as a means of scientific control Rappaccini and
Baglioni sacrifice Beatrice (and even Giovanni). They all overstep their boundaries by using her
and only when she kills herself does Beatrice reclaim the power over her own life. In the pursuit
of knowledge and power great sacrifices are made. But unlike The Artist of the Beautiful the
person who makes the sacrifice (Beatrice) has no choice. She is punished and the men who would
use her as a means of control in life are not.
We again see the quest for perfection on the part of a scientifically minded person in The Birthmark

Gender and Violence in Disney Movies Essay
Gender and Violence in Disney movies Many of us have seen a Disney movie when we were
younger. Disney movies captured our attention with their mortals and successful conclusion. The
animations and music transform us into a land of magic where anything is possible if we just
believe. Disney movies wrapped us in the idea that good always triumphs evil, that happy ever
after exists. We have become the generation of Beauty and the Beast, The 101 Dalmatians, Dumbo

Out of these four jobs, only one would be reasonable as a job, which not many women can
achieve. When looking at in home employment they found an example of 24 women in domestic
tasks (Towbin et al 2003). Disney movies portray that women should be domestic workers, they
should not have careers outside of the house. Research has analyzed the movie Pocahontas we can
see that there is conflicting ideas of gender roles. Pocahontas is seen as a strong female character
throughout most of the movie until the end where she falls stereotypic female role, as she
decided to stay with her community because she is needed there, the film makes it seem as if
she is staying with her community out of duty (Towbin et al 2003). If the film had made her
choice more of her choice instead of a out of duty she could have still be portrayed as a strong
women and not a stereotype. There has not been much research done on individual Disney
princess movies, but recent studies have taken the movies by year and dissect the movies to see
how much masculinity and femininity are in the movies. The results confirmed that the three
Disney princess movies created between 1930 and 1950 depicted more gendered attributes for
both the princesses and the princes, they displayed more traditional stereotype gender roles than
the five movies produced in and after the 1980s (England, Descartes and Collier Meek 2011). The

Octavia Butler Bloodchild Summary
Octavia Butler, an African American author who uses her writing abilities to instill awareness
through a unique form of science fiction. Each of her novels and stories address issues and topics
that address issues that typically are discussed with a lot of tension from the feminist of the world.
Some of these issues include genderinequalities and gender norms. The short story that I decided
to read and write about is Bloodchild which is based on a romantic and controlling relationship
with humans and outer space creatures. This author switches the roles of the characters to opposite
of societal norms. The male character has the role of the female, so he is required to give birth and
the female character has taken the place of the male and has taken on the impregnating actions. The
male, Gan, who is the main character, is often seen... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her science fiction novels are very fantasy based with real meanings behind them. Butler does this
to make the harsh truth, easier to understand and comprehend. She wants to paint the picture of the
wall men have around women in society. In her novel the alien like creature who is the women is a
very string creature with long arms. She often made people feel trapped. whole left row of T
Gatoi s limbs closed around her, holding her loosely, but securely...no one else in the family
liked it. They said it made them feel caged (Butler 3). This feeling that Butler described is the
same some women feel throughout their lives due to not being able to make their own choices
about how to live their lives. Instead society tells them what is needed to be done as a woman
not what is needed for themselves. Many women go through this oppression without even
knowing it. Society had forced women to overlook the way they are treated because the world we
live in is male based driven. Butler wants to change the way we see things, her goal is to change
the perception of what is socially

This sampling would require that the sampling is relevant to the topic that we are trying to
research and that there is an identifiable distribution among the population being interviewed. This
would be required if you were to sample males versus females, one would have to be sure to
determine the exact distribution level. It would be important to ensure that it was calculated that
there were 45 males and 50 females and that information would have to be evaluated based on
those measures rather than an equal amount of each. This could also be said if one were to interview
different religious groups. If you were going to interview several different religious groups, it
would be imperative to ensure that you have allowed all the numbers of the groupings that you have

The snowball method would be done once the interviewees went through referrals. If one were to

The Depiction Of Unseen Crime Scene In Elsie s Business
Unseen Crime Scene
The scene within Elsie s Business that I found the most impactful to the narrative as a whole, by
way of the writing style, was the scene where Sheriff Parker discovers the body of Elsie Roberts.
Unlike most other scenes in the book, this one is written quite differently. In most other parts of the
novel, the reader is meant to listen to the story and make their own interpretations and conclusions
regarding the events of the novel based solely on the information given, particularly within the tales
told by the character of Oscar to the narrator (195). For the crime scene in the novel, Washburn s
writing takes a far different turn from interpretive and vague to analytical and exceptionally detailed.
Throughout the novel, Frances ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In effect, the simplicity of the information provides an easier story to follow and thus a smoother,
more basic array of details that the reader must interpret. However, this simplistic style is greatly
different from the one that Washburn chooses for the depiction of the crime scene.
As if to build up to the change in writing styles, Washburn begins the story of the crime scene
with a briefly detailed overview of the weather conditions and the time of year the murder
occurs. They are described as being a slow moving storm...bringing several inches of snow and
the Saturday night after New Year s Eve respectively (163). So the story goes, Sheriff Parker
leaves the police station to make his final rounds on Sunday morning just before he is to be
relieved from his shift and, in the process, comes upon the frozen body of Elsie where upon which
the writing style takes an immediate shift. As if recounting the obsessive detail of a scene within
one of Arthur Conan Doyle s tales of the great Sherlock Holmes, Washburn begins the scene s
analysis through the emptiness of the scene,

It is through the theories of the tragedy of the commons and environmental rights that we realize

The Coral Reefs are limestone formations that are produced by living organisms. They are found
in shallow tropical waters. The predominate organisms that make them up are stony corals, which
are colonial cnidarians that secrete calcium carbonate (limestone) as an exoskeleton. Calcium
carbonate is also deposited by other types of marine organisms such as tube building annelid

The Great Depression And Its Effects On America
The Great Depression was an incredibly dull time in the historical backdrop of the United States,
impacting all the financial assets of the American lifestyle. The Great Depression shattered the
financial status of the United States. President Roosevelt has been known for sparing the U.S out of
the financial turmoil it found itself in from the Great Depression. The causative components of the
Great Depression are still up for debate by many students of history and economics. For some
individuals, the period s decline is credited to the stock market crash of 1929. The Great Depression
started in 1929 and went on until 1939. This monetary collapse influenced Western industrialized
economies but its effects ranged across different countries. The Great Depression started in the
United States, which unfortunately encountered the worst repercussions. Conversely, many
contend that the Depression began about 10 years prior in Europe however the United States
foreseen that it was insusceptible to such a recession. Thus, the American government around that
time did not generate laws to guarantee that the nation did not encounter the same collapse as
Europe. The most important causes of the Great Depression were the stock market crash, bank

The Battle Of Inter State War
Bull defines war as organized violence carried on by political units against each other (184). With
respect to this broad definition, both he and Waltz posit models of conflict which can effectively
be used to analyze the sources of modern violence. The warrior scholars employ the theories of
multiple political philosophers including Kant and Rousseau in order to build theories that
encapsulate the complex variables which lead to armed engagement. These theories can be
extrapolated in order to explain the causes of inter statewar, and to provide explanations of violence
in the modern global theatre. Overall, Waltz s argument of the three images is extremely
persuasive. The logical underpinnings of the models and the ways in which they collaborate are,
for the most part, concrete and well thought out. His theory provides for three basic ideas through
which the origins of all conflict can be distilled. First, Waltz (1959) provides that thinkers such as
Spinoza place the responsibility of violence at the feet of human imperfection and lack of reason.
Secondly, he postulates that domestic policy of a state will lead to conflict (Waltz 1959). Finally,
the theorist channels Rousseau s The Social Contract to explain warfare as a symptom of
international relations(Waltz 1959). The ways in which these three ideas correlate are what make
Waltz s explanation so compelling. The first two of these images, the man and the state, explain
how a country behaves internally. The

Pros And Cons Of Slavery 1800s
Slavery. A topic that should never be brought up in a conversation, should never be said casually,
and should never happen. Slavery, despite being illegal in every country, is still going on, and at
different odds. Slavery has many forms. Many of which, only the cruelest of minds can think up.
Slavery is different than in the 1800s because it has many more forms, has more potential slaves,
and more profit.
There are many types of slavery. The most common for the 1800s is forced labor, which in the
1800s, was longterm, no pay, bad conditions. Forced labor is physical, forcing them to work for
hours on end, and beaten into submission. There is also forced marriage, sex trafficking, and
child labor, the most cruel. Slaves under 18 take up 30% of the whole slave population, and is

The Slaughter Of Humans And Contemporary Animal Slaughter
Hung upside down by their feet, their throats are slit to drain the blood. This is an image that
appears in most every slaughterhouse across the globe. John Ajvide Lindqvist s novel, Let the
Right One In, similarly portrays these scenes of slaughter with one difference: the victims of
slaughter are humans not animals. Set in the suburbs of Stockholm, Lindqvist s novel tells of a
young and severely bullied boy, Oskar, who befriends a centuries old child vampire named Eli.
Because of her childlike body, Eli requires her older male companion, HГҐkan, to procure blood for
her. As he hangs his victims by their feet and slits their throats to collect the blood, HГҐkan s
process of obtaining human blood is clearly evocative of contemporary Western practices of animal
slaughter. However, the difference between HГҐkan s slaughter of humans and contemporary
animal slaughter is not merely the victims species but is, more importantly, the space in which
these acts occur. Despite meatconsumption s widespread acceptance, meat production by means of
slaughter is still visually disturbing and thus, in order to be socially tolerable, must not be seen.
Indeed, since the 19th century, the slaughterhousehas been spatially located at the edges of urban
space in order to render its violent actions socially invisible. What happens, then, when the slaughter
occurs within the urban space as HГҐkan s acts of slaughter do? By comparing animal slaughter to
the novel s scenes of human slaughter in terms

Analysis Of Francois Truffaut And Alfred Hitchcock s Film...
Anyone who is even vaguely aware with film usually has a favorite director. Why? What
distinguishes one director from another? A director is the person who determines and realizes on
the screen an artistic vision of the screenplay; casts the actors and directs their performances; works
closely with production design in creating the look of the film...and in most cases, supervises all
postproduction activity, especially editing (Barsam and Monahan 496). Clearly, the director of a

Alfred Hitchcock also used cinematography in a uniquely stylizing way. Hitchcock not only uses
the camera to create dramatic irony, but he also uses the camera to lie to the audience and create
anxious suspense. For example, in his film Psycho, when Marion is in the shower Hitchcock
frames the scenes very tightly. Marion is in a confined and very personal space. This makes her
incredibly vulnerable. Then Hitchcock heightens the suspense by creating dramatic irony with the
reveal of a shadowy figure closing in on Marion, unbeknownst to her. This creates a lot of anxiety
for the audience, knowing the protagonist is vulnerable and in danger with no way of altering the
inevitable. Hitchcock then manipulates the audience by revealing a brief silhouette of an old lady
as our shower killer. Hitchcock uses this reveal to lie to the audience, he makes the audience think
they have more inside knowledge confirming their already growing suspicions, when in reality the
audience is misled entirely and the murderer was Norman all along. The way Hitchcock uses the
camera to reveal both inside information and misleading information truly keeps the viewer
engaged and not knowing what to believe until the truth is finally revealed. By using this unique
technique of controlling the audience by only showing what he wants you to see, Hitchcock
masterfully defies expectations and creates suspense. Both

ACHE v. AMA Codes of Ethics The American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) Code
of Ethics is a list of principles set forth to guide healthcare executives in their daily practice. The
Code of Ethics clearly defines the behavior and performance standards required by those
performing the duties of healthcare executives. The ACHE Code of Ethics is designed in a way that
clearly directs healthcare executives in their interactions with patients, employees, and the
community. The ACHE Code of Ethics also clearly defines the responsibilities of the healthcare
executive to the profession of healthcare management and also the responsibilities of the healthcare
executive to the organization, as well as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Code of Ethics defines the behavior standards with which physicians must comply. The AMA
Code of Ethics is designed as a concise document outlining the basic duties and responsibilities of
physicians. One of the major areas of strength of the AMA Code of Ethics is the principle that
outlines that the physician must regard responsibility to the patient as paramount (American
Medical Association, n.d., par. 9). This principle outlines that importance of putting the patient
first in all care aspects when working with a patient. Along with this, other principles set forth in
the AMA Code of Ethics, while involving other aspects of care, state that the rights of the
patient shall be acknowledged and followed during patient care. It is very important that
healthcare codes of ethics are clear in defining that the patient needs to be considered first and
foremost. A weakness of the AMA Code of Ethics is concise nature of the document. While
concise can also be regarded as a strength, the concise nature of this Code of Ethics is a
disadvantage, as it does not allow for more clear definitions of the ethical principles. For example,
the principle stating that physicians shall support access to medical care for everyone does not
outline the ways in which physicians should do this or provide any guidance. It seems as though
more guidance could be provided with a more

The Moral Argument for the Existence of God Essay example
The Moral Argument for the Existence of God Kant did NOT put forward a moral argument and
anyone who said he does is wrong!!!! Kant rejected all attempts to argue from the world to God,
he regarded such an exercise as impossible. However he thought that God was a POSTULATE of
practical reason. If you share Kant s assumptions, then it becomes necessary to assume that there is
a God. Kant s reasoning.... 1. All human beings desire and seek happiness 2. All human beings
ought to be moral and do their duty 3. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of course, it may well be that the Universe is not fair Kant had a deep sense of trust in the
fairness of the Universe and if this is rejected then the postulates are not needed. Argument from
absolute moral values =================================== A different approach to
that of Kant comes from those who argue from the existence of some absolute moral values.
Rashdall put forward this argument but it was developed by Sorley. Sorley claims: 1. There is
an absolute moral law. Sorley supports this claim with the following reasons: 2. People are
conscious of an absolute moral law 3. People acknowledge the demands that this law makes on
them even if they break it 4. No finite mind grasps the whole of what this represents 5. Ideas exist
only in minds 6. Therefore there must be a supreme mind, beyond all finite minds, in which this
absolute moral law exists. Sorley claims that unlike Natural Law which is descriptive of human
nature, the Moral Law is prescriptive. It describes not what IS but what SHOULD BE. The Natural
Law approach to Ethics stems

Essay about A Feminist Reading of Cheever’s The...
A Feminist Reading of The Five Forty Eight
The short story The Five Forty Eight by John Cheever concerns the issue of a woman scorned by
the inhumane treatment she has received by men, most notably that of Blake, whose oppression
serves as the turning point in her life. This generalization is often the focus of a feminist criticism.
Feminists believe that women should have equal rights as men, and they seek to correct or
supplement what they regard as a predominantly male dominated critical perspective with a
feminist consciousness (Meyer 2014). In this short story, using a feminist consciousness to read the
text helps to understand the reasoning behind Miss Dent s need to defeat the idea that males
dominate over women. Miss ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The next day, as soon as Miss Dent was out to lunch, he called personnel and asked them to fire
her. Then he took the afternoon off (81). Blake is too much of a guilty coward to face Miss Dent
after their affairs the night before. To rid himself of his newest problem, he simply fires her
although he does not have the guts to fire her himself. As a direct result of the hurt and scorn Miss
Dent has experienced throughout her life, mainly at the hands of Blake, she is permanently
troubled. While confronting Blake she tells him, you don t know what I ve been through. I m
afraid to go out in the daylight (88). Miss Dent s experience with a monster such as Blake has left
her extremely insecure and hurt.
Blake is not alone in causing Miss Dent s destruction; although, in this story he is a stereotype of
all the men in her life who have treated her the same hurtful way. Miss Dent views Blake just
like every other man in her life. Blake acknowledges the fact that he is like all men because on
the train he noticed that he dressed like the rest of [them] as if he admitted to the existence of the
sumptuary laws (82). Every man on the train, with the exception of a few, dresses the same, in non
colorful clothes. The sumptuary laws refer to the Roman laws that regulate the type of clothes
worn in public. Blake is in the majority of business class men

Affordable Housing Crisis Research Paper
An Overview of Affordability Housing Crisis in the US
This research paper intends to navigate its focus on a current social issue over the shortage of
affordable housing in the United States. The affordable housing becomes a concern for the
society as there is a group of influential people raises their concern over the housing market to the
public. In an effort to generate public attention, Laura Kusisto who is a US housing and economic
reporter claims that Americans are now on the edge of next housing crisis in her column on The
Wall Street Journal (2018). Her claim is supported by the statistic generated by the Federal
Reserve Bank of Kansas City on the rate of home construction per household as it was reaching a

The parallel finding suggests that there are nearly 19 million American households spend more than
half of their income streams on housing in which comprises for more than 40% of the rental
community within the States (2017). Notwithstanding the fact that 30 percent of income is applied
widely as the golden standard measure of affordability, the study indicates that roughly half of the
renting households are in fact spending more on housing than they could afford (2017). Parallel
findings have been reported in a Harvard study which indicates that the housing problem becomes
more critical in larger metropolitan areas such as San Francisco and New York, where only 25% of
the residents can afford the housing (GSD News, 2017). The study suggests that the housing
problem in the States will continue to deteriorate attributing to the soaring demands from the
millennial generation as they are moving away from their parent s houses and in search for more
personal spaces (2017). With that being said, Sarah Holder asserts that the households who have
low and medium income might be the groups most vulnerable to the housing affordability crisis as
the cumulative shortage of housing persist (2018). Her claim is built upon the annual report
released by the National Low Income Housing Coalition which entails the fact that the affordable

Prostitution As A Form Of Sexual Abuse
Prostitution can have the meaning of, engaging in sexual acts or activities for the exchange of
money or goods , this can also be a form of sexual abuse. Prostitution status for the countries shown

restricted: 11, number of countries prostitutionis legal: 77, number of countries with no laws for
prostitution: 5. Prostitution is illegal in all states in the US except for 11 counties in Nevada. The
Mann Act signed by President Taft on June 25, 1910.
The purpose for this law was to stop harboring immigrant prostitutes, forced prostitution and
transportation across state lines. A Representative that s named James R. Mann was how the law
got its name, this act had dealings with child pornography and prostitution. Mann came across this
law because in Chicago 1909 people told him that pimps were forcing girls and women into
prostitution. In the US arguing for keeping sexual rights and privacy won out in the landmark
Supreme Court ruling Lawrence v. Texas stating that these sodomy laws consider constitutional law
of a country nor the government. Sex trade still continues, in 2007 Atlanta s sex trade was worth
$290 million. Pimps usually come with history, like being a pimp was a family business because
there was a lot of their family member involved into that before. It s pasted from generation to
generation usually.

The Effects Of Gun Violence On The United States
In the United States, over the past few decades, gun violence has increased massively, leading to
over 10,000 gun related incidents in 2015. The main cause of the massive amount of violence in the
United States in recent decades is mainly because people who are in danger have no means to
protect themselves. This is why guns should be more accessible for citizens, so that they can
protect themselves in dangerous situations. Allowing citizens to conceal weapons would heavily
decrease the amount of incidents that occur because innocent people were unable to protect
themselves. Also, putting less control on guns would prevent crimes from even happening in the
first place. If a criminal had intentions of committing a crime, they would be much less willing if
they knew that they might possibly get shot trying to commit that crime. Thus, criminal activity
and violent crimes will cease to continue at such high rates and more people will have the ability
to protect themselves in dangerous situations. In areas with high crime rates, certain people are
more affected than others, such as minorities, children, and women. America is facing a
continuing epidemic of homicides among young black males. The number of black homicide
victims killed by guns is rising at a sharp rate of fifty four percent. Studies have shown that
consistently there are more black victims than white victims. A specific study done by the FBI has
shown that per 100,000 black lives, 18.07 of people were victims of

Contemporary Issues Of Hotel Industry Essay
CONTEMPORARY ISSUES IN HOTEL INDUSTRY Introduction
The need for brand loyalty in the hotel industry is becoming a debatable issue for the different
companies within the hospitality sector (O Neill and Xiao, 2006). The assignment here focuses on
critically analyzing the published article on Hotel Brand Strategy thereby identifying the different
explicit and implicit assumptions made within the article along with the relevant evidences. The
assignment further focuses on the analysis of the logics behind the assumptions and the soundness
of the logics. The major focus of the assignment is to critically assess the agreement and
disagreement issues related to the assumptions thus identified in the article.
Identification of assumptions, challenges, reasons and evidences
O Neill Mattila (2010) in their published article makes the following assumptions regarding the
hotel industry.
Assumption 1: Brand name provides tangibility to the services of the hotel companies
Challenge to the assumption: Brand name may become a large concept hampering the other
services of the hotel. (Pike, 2005) argued that adoption of high branding strategies makes it difficult
for the hotel managements to come out of the brand image and establish any personal image in the
mind of the consumers.
Reason to the assumption: The reason made by the author is true and logical in nature because the
services of the hotel industry are an intangible product however, a successful brand name may
provide

Euthanasia Is Not Morally Wrong
Warren believes that failure to meet any of her criteria means that killing the person who fails
the five point personhood test is not morally wrong, regardless of how or why someone would
choose to do so. I find an objection to Warren s view because it is absurd and it could lead to
controversial actions on behalf of her view s followers. In most, if not all cases, of nonvoluntary
active euthanasiathe doctor who performs the euthanasia is charged with murder. This is because
almost every country in the world has made nonvoluntary active euthanasia, where a patient
wishes not to die but is euthanized anyway, illegal. Despite that, there could be cases in Warren s
view that would make it so the act of nonvoluntary active euthanasia is not morally wrong, and the
results of her view could be very controversial. One case is where a patient is found to be in a coma
or a persistent vegetative state(PVS) and they wish not to die. When a person is in one of these
states they meet none the criteria put forth by Warren, and in her view this would make it morally
acceptable to actively euthanize this patient. Not only that, but because the patients are not
members of the moral community there is no wrong in killing them, and even worse, any way of
actively euthanizing them is acceptable. Therefore, her extreme view can cause those who believe
her views to think in the same way. Adopting Warren s view on nonvoluntary euthanasia could end
badly if the person decides to act on it. An

Love and Friendship
Stopping for a few seconds to admire a flower, an insect, a phenomenon of nature, an architecture,
etc., in days full of worries, have become memorable. Also, all these seconds sent me every time
into a wonderful world, just like Confucius said, Everything has its beauty, but not everyone sees it
. The short films The Balloon directed by Martynas Zaremba and The Red Balloon directed by
Albert Lamorisse have the plot people s reaction for a few seconds at sight of a black balloon.
The Balloon film submits a series of reactions from various people in the city caused by a simple
black balloon with no intended meaning. The balloon starts to appear above the city one night
while people were sleeping. The Red Balloon , too shows an emotional story of friendship
between a boy called Pascal, and his red balloon. The writer and director Lamorisse succeeds
through fiction to combine reality, the wonder, and the magic of this friendship. In both short
films, the main focus is a floating balloon, but I believe that their differences are more striking
than their similarities. Both films The Balloon and The Red Balloon have a similar high point.
In my opinion The Balloon high point is that when the balloon appears on a street where a bad
boy with a knife in his hand is ready to commit an act of violence. The presence of the balloon in
that area stops the bad boy to commit it. Moreover, the bad boy looks his way to sky to admire
the balloon for a few seconds. Likewise, the balloon from Lamorisse s film avoid an act of
violence. For example, a gang of older kids chases Pascal around city, determined to steal and
destroy his balloon. The red balloon performs a miracle, it saves little Pascal from that chase. It
sacrifices itself and lets itself tortured with stones to save Pascal s life. Furthermore, the red
balloon dies for this cause. However, in three distinct ways, The Balloon and The Red Balloon
films are almost opposites. First of all, their score is very different. The Balloon film sound
source is the song with lyrics titled Time to Leave of the band Suicide DJs. The lyrics can provide
depth, powerful to the song, and make the audience to

Oscar Pistorius s Controversy
On September 11th, 2014 it was declared that Oscar Pistorius was not guilty of premeditated
murder. A few months later, however, Pistorius was found guilty of culpable homicide. Pistorius
was then sentenced to five years in prison for his crime. He was to serve his time in the Kgosi
Mampuru II prison located in Pretoria,Gauteng,South Africa. It is not made final about how long he
will have to remain in prison but it could possibly be ten months or even twenty months.
Oscar Pistorius was born on November 22,1986 in South Africa. Pistorius was born without a
fibula in either of his legs, which were amputated below the knees before he turned one. Having
prosthetic legs did not stop Oscar from doing things he wanted to do with his life. Pistorius was
involved in sports, he was involved in several school sports such as cricket and boxing. When he

Music Education Should Be Taught In All Schools
Music education should be taught in all schools. A quality music education program offers a variety
of positive influences on children of all ages (President s Committee on Arts and the Humanities).
Studies have shown that playing an instrument activates all areas of the brain, which can increase
test scores and even focus throughout the day. Student s participation in musiceducationprograms

School systems must hire at least one music educator, have a dedicated classroom, practice
facilities, and access to musical instruments, a music library, uniforms, and a variety of other
essential items in order to have a quality program. It can be very expensive in the beginning, and
there are always maintenance costs along the way. I would argue that the benefits that are gained
by having a quality program are worth the cost to the school district. I would also argue that much
of the money can be found in other ways than from the school district. Our high school band does
not receive any money from the school district for anything other than the fact that our two band
directors are both Okaloosa County employees. During football season, our boosters sell football
programs, and work the concessions stand during the football games. We pay for our gas and bus
drivers to go to the away football games, and our competition fees are paid for out of our concession
stand profits. The student s band fees for first semester pay for the upkeep on school owned
instruments, (the students who use those instruments pay rentals which cover cleaning fees)
upkeep on marching uniforms, marching season music and the half time show choreography.
During concert season, our concert uniform repair/replacement, concert music, and competition fee
is paid by the student s spring semester fees. The students

living within a 2 parent family, getting the support and care from both parents, then having to
adjust to living with just his Mother, and not seeing his Father, then again another person
moving in, getting used to their way of doing things and having to share his Mother with another
person again, then his Brother being born, this must have been a confusing time for Steven. This
period in his family life should have been one of support, care, nurturing from both parents.
During these early stages of Primary socialisation, Steven was learning the skills he needed to
take him through life from his Mother and Father then, just from his Mother this changes with
the appearance of the step Father, this could have been due to the different parenting skill
between Stevens Mother and Step Father for instance maybe his Mother did not agree with
smacking the children and the step father did there is conflict which Steven could pick up on
(Haralambos Holborn Sociology Themes Perspectives p185 n.d.) Also Steven will pick up his

Indian Boy Love Song Analysis
The poems New Orleans by Joy Harjo and Indian Boy Love Song (#2) by Sherman Alexie have
two very similar themes. Themes are underlying message, or main ideas, basically the theme is
the lesson you learned after you read a story, or in this instance a poem. The theme in New
Orleans is that you should put forth the effort to find out about your culture s history. While the
theme of Indian Boy Love Song(#2) is that you should, try your hardest to become close to your
elders, don t be distant. While both themes are focused on their culture, New Orleans is actually
looking for information on her Creek culture, but Indian Boy Love Song (#2) is apologizing
about how he s distant from his culture. In the poem New Orleans the theme is that to learn more
about your culture, you should put forth the effort. To get this message Harjo used compare and
contrasting. For example They caught him in blue rock, said don t talk. I know it wasn t just a
horse that went crazy. This is showing development because it s showing how her people got
caught, and they attacked any and everything. Another way the author shows this is by saying I
have a memory. It swims deep in blood, a delta in the skin. This shows that her heritage runs deep
through her. In addition to these two quotes, another quote that shows relation toward this
development is Nearby is a shop with ivory and knives. There are red rocks. The man behind the
counter has no idea that he is inside magic stones. He

  • 2. The Perils Of Man Analysis I have always enjoyed Point Click Adventure games there was always something magical about the storytelling, quirky animation and puzzles that always seemed to attract me that genre of gaming. While my nostalgia takes me back to the 90s, much has changed in the world of video games. The days of Monkey Island and Grim Fandango have long past, still, the genre remains strong. Titles like The Perils of Man are a good example of what fans of the genre are happy to see. Personally, I always thought that a good adventure game needed to have a great story. It never mattered to me how long or short the story was just as long as it captivated me while playing. The Perils of Man main story is short and sweet. The premise for a favorable story is ... • 3. Global Positioning System Essay Global Positioning System Wouldn t it be great if you could be sure that you would never be lost again? That you would know exactly where you were at all times, whether at land, air, or sea. Well, that is possible with modern technology. More specifically, that is possible with the help of GPS, the Global Positioning System. GPS is a navigational tool that has recently become extremely popular because of it wide range of uses. Whether you are a fisherman or an avid traveler, you could find some use for GPS. And with GPS becoming more and more affordable, it won t belong until everyone is using it. After taking a third measurement and a third sphere is imagined, the possible points are then narrowed down to only two. These are the two points in which all three spheres intersect. In most cases, one of the points can be immediately thrown out because it is an unreasonable answer. That leaves only the correct position. In order to measure the distance of the satellites, GPS receivers measure the time it takes for radio signals sent from the satellite to reach the base station on Earth. Once we have the precise time it takes we can plug that number into a simple equation and we have our answer. Speed of light * the precise time = Distance of the Satellite The speed of light is the easy part; it is 186,000 miles per hour. It is measuring the precise time that is so difficult. To solve this problem, something called the Pseudo Random Code (PRC) was developed. The PRC is a complicated sequence of on and off pulses that is given off by both the satellite and the base station. The PRC from both the satellite and the base station are played at the exact same time and are then compared. When played, the two PRCs will be slightly out of sync because one set of signals has to travel from the satellite in space. The time is measured on the basis of this sync ratio and the distance can then be calculated. The Global Positioning System (GPS) is used by an almost endless amount of people and professions. • 4. How Does Shakespeare Use Deception In The Merchant Of Venice Self expression is the human capability of revealing the attributes and features of one s self. However, humans have the ability to methodically select how cohabiting individuals will perceive his or her character. Through lies and secrets, a human being distorts their true self from the perception of another. William Shakespeare s The Merchant Of Venice contains situations in which characters lie to conceal their secrets and self. First, Jessica, the Jewish moneylender s daughter, uses lies to escape her father s house and elope with her love. Secondly, Shylock, the Jewish moneylender in Venice, suppresses his motives and thoughts in the presences of his Venetian neighbours. Lastly, lies are used by Bassanio, an Italian lord of Venice, as he appears to be a wealthy man but is truly in debt. Clearly, Shakespeare uses the theme appearance versus reality to disguise true intentions and deceive characters. This quote confirms Antonio s trust in Shylock s fake kindness and friendly behaviour. Shylock s obsession with the idea of Antonio in a difficult situation is the primary reason why he agrees to loan his money and creates the bond out of hatred and villainy but masks his evil hopes in the presences of Antonio. What are the limits to which a person can accept and exercise such sovereignty? In the first chapter, Introductory , and the second, Of the Liberty of Thought and Discussion , J.S Mill displays such limits and provides an analysis and debate to the common concepts of how an individual works within a society, while simultaneously diverging into how society works with and against a sole figure. In On Liberty, he construes the conflict between liberty and authority and administers the historical diversity amongst social classes. Within the Introductory chapter, Mill definitively expresses the extensive history of the struggles of authority versus liberty. He sets this with time periods as far back as ancient Greece, Rome, and England. The hierarchy of classes sets the precedence for the amount of liberty an individual reaps. Mill explains, ... [the government s] power was regarded as necessary, but also as highly dangerous; as a weapon which they would attempt to use against their subjects... (Mill 2). This exertion of power left the lower classes weak, with a minimal say in government. By inheritance of power, the lack of expression in lower classes consistently remained throughout the years. This is the initial claim from Mill, that wealthier individuals maintained the most liberty in early societies, due to possessing the most money. Any hip hop fan should be familiar with Kendrick s name, they should also be familiar with his music. The fact that Kendrick Lamar isn t being recognized as a legend this early in his career slightly upsets me. Kendrick Lamar s newer music is underappreciated because of the unique sound and thought provoking lyrics. Many people don t listen to music for the full experience; they just listen for some background noise. According to a study published by Edison Research, in May 2014, 52.1% of the music listened to by Americans every day is on the Radio. To think that over half of the music heard every day is probably coming from car speakers, a dusty radio on your grandfather s workbench, or that little radio tucked in a corner in your kitchen, is astounding. People that listen to music on the radio normally don t concentrate on the music. Music is typically used to accompany a mundane task, or another source of entertainment, like a puzzle. About a million fax machines were sold in 1988 alone, and they became the fastest selling machines adorning homes and office desktops word wide. Fax machines proved to be of immense utility to the Japanese. The Japanese alphabet has thousands of characters, and keypads can only afford a limited number of keys. Fax machines provided the Japanese an easy way to transfer their written documents. According to the American facsimile association, about 50% of all calls made in the 1980s to the US from Japan were to fax machines. Frank Vizard, contributing editor of the Popular Mechanics magazine, writes that increasing popularity of fax machines blurred the line between the home and the office, as business documents could easily be faxed to homes within seconds. People dealt with work related documents from the comforts of their homes. Fax machines soon replaced postal mailboxes and reduced the time of delivery of documents. Budgets are of great help as a support performance management (Pietrzak, 2013). It can provide a detailed information insight of the next fiscal year, which allows managers to set performance objectives much more easily, make decisions and plan ahead. For example: When recession hit Europe in 2008, Davis Service Group was able to assess effects and was able to build new and accurate theories for the remainder of 2008. By recognizing and handling risks, Davis has been able to return profits, dividends and cash flow for shareholders in a challenging economic environment. Budgets generate a point of reference, making it easier for managers to accomplish activities with stability. As long as managers can meet the set parameters, budgeting and the use of budgetcost centers provide them with the liberty to run their operations (Neely at al., 2003). Budgets are a great communication tool used when obtaining information about company or e.g. activities of its competitors. The Rick Introduction scene in the film is able to give the audience an immediate perspective on who Rick really is, within a matter of seconds. This suggests that people cannot get to him (get in his head, or persuade him). This scene has huge importance since people can implicitly assume that Rick does not take sides, and only cares about himself. By looking at the color of costumes between Rick and the German man indicates that Rick is good based on his white tuxedo, and the other man is not (he is wearing black). The costume of Rick plays a major role in determining he is a good character. A major part scene in particular implicitly that his character is discriminating and headstrong. By him letting people with less money, and less prominent into the bar, you can infer that he must feel something. Also by not letting a wealthy German into the bar, and letting a criminal like Ugarte in, he must have some sort of negative feelings to the Germans. Some artists such as Ovid, chose to focus on Daedalus and Icarus and leave everyone else out. Other artists, for instance, Pieter Bruegel the Elder and W. H. Auden, have much more panoramic views of the situation and include others in their works. Different approaches can leave the readers with different understandings of this ancient myth. In Ovid s The Myth of Daedalus and Icarus, the author uses a third person point of view to closely follow Daedalus and Icarus. From this, readers are more tightly attached to the characters and know more about them. Readers of this story witness the inventing and engineering of the wings by Daedalus and know the conflicting desires of Daedalus to escape from prison and to protect his son. Everyone is guilty of creating and releasing emissions. While individuals do have an impact, they do not have as large of an impact on the environment as power plants. Producing approximately 100 megawatts per hour, this plant needs an exorbitant amount of fuel source to provide this energy ( Generating Power n.d.). Since 1965, the fuel source for this power plant has largely been coal. MSU promotes itself as a green campus, and coal emits a large amounts of emissions; therefore, there has been a shift away from coal. Also, with the new EPA regulations, it would have cost more money to redesign the units to meet these standards burning coal than it would to switch to natural gas ( MSU to Stop 2015). This is why by the end of 2016, MSU will be switching to natural gas as the main fuel source for this power plant. Instead of coal being the main fuel source, it will now be natural gas; using natural gas in place of coal will reduce emissions by approximately 50 percent (Pacala 2004, 969). This is a big step towards MSU s goals of being a green campus and using sustainable energy. However, while natural gas has lower emissions, it does cost more than coal. The companies involved include Messier Bughatti of France, Rolls Royce of the UK, Alenia Aeronatuica of Italy, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries of Japan and Chjengdu Aircraft Group of China. This outsourcing decision means that 85% of the construction of this aircraft is supplied by strategic supply partners of Boeing. Those parts are eventually shipped to the Boeing plant in Washington by road, rail, sea and plane for final assembly of the Dreamliner. There are several other ways to make supply chain improvements. One of those ways includes the pursuit of major process simplification. This is used to improve supply chains when the processes have become so complex or so out of date that they are no longer cost efficient or no longer effective to maintain. An attempt at colonization in Sierra Leone had failed in 1815. Six years later native rulers granted a tract of land on Cape Mesurado, at the mouth of the Saint Paul River, to U.S. representatives, and the first Americo Liberians, led by Jehudi Ashmun, began the settlement. In 1824 an American agent for the society, Ralph Randolph Gurley, named the new colony Liberiaand the Cape Mesurado settlement Monrovia. In 1945 Liberia became one of the original member states of the United Nations. Following his election in May 1943, President William V. S. The latter policy led to the exploitation in the 1950s of iron ore deposits in the Bomi Hills, located north of Monrovia. In the presidential election of May 1951, women and indigenous property owners voted for the first time, but the few thousand Americo Liberians living in the coastal region still retained control of the government. The incumbent Tubman, candidate of the dominant True Whig Party, was reelected without opposition. The government had suppressed the Reformation and United People s parties. Their leaders, supported mainly by residents of the hinterland, were arrested or exiled following the election. • 35. The Battle Of Inter State War Bull defines war as organized violence carried on by political units against each other (184). With respect to this broad definition, both he and Waltz posit models of conflict which can effectively be used to analyze the sources of modern violence. The warrior scholars employ the theories of multiple political philosophers including Kant and Rousseau in order to build theories that encapsulate the complex variables which lead to armed engagement. These theories can be extrapolated in order to explain the causes of inter statewar, and to provide explanations of violence in the modern global theatre. Overall, Waltz s argument of the three images is extremely persuasive. The logical underpinnings of the models and the ways in which they collaborate are, for the most part, concrete and well thought out. His theory provides for three basic ideas through which the origins of all conflict can be distilled. First, Waltz (1959) provides that thinkers such as Spinoza place the responsibility of violence at the feet of human imperfection and lack of reason. Secondly, he postulates that domestic policy of a state will lead to conflict (Waltz 1959). Finally, the theorist channels Rousseau s The Social Contract to explain warfare as a symptom of international relations(Waltz 1959). The ways in which these three ideas correlate are what make Waltz s explanation so compelling. The first two of these images, the man and the state, explain how a country behaves internally. The ... This is an image that appears in most every slaughterhouse across the globe. John Ajvide Lindqvist s novel, Let the Right One In, similarly portrays these scenes of slaughter with one difference: the victims of slaughter are humans not animals. Set in the suburbs of Stockholm, Lindqvist s novel tells of a young and severely bullied boy, Oskar, who befriends a centuries old child vampire named Eli. Because of her childlike body, Eli requires her older male companion, HГҐkan, to procure blood for her. As he hangs his victims by their feet and slits their throats to collect the blood, HГҐkan s process of obtaining human blood is clearly evocative of contemporary Western practices of animal slaughter. However, the difference between HГҐkan s slaughter of humans and contemporary animal slaughter is not merely the victims species but is, more importantly, the space in which these acts occur. Despite meatconsumption s widespread acceptance, meat production by means of slaughter is still visually disturbing and thus, in order to be socially tolerable, must not be seen. Indeed, since the 19th century, the slaughterhousehas been spatially located at the edges of urban space in order to render its violent actions socially invisible. Alfred Hitchcock also used cinematography in a uniquely stylizing way. Hitchcock not only uses the camera to create dramatic irony, but he also uses the camera to lie to the audience and create anxious suspense. For example, in his film Psycho, when Marion is in the shower Hitchcock frames the scenes very tightly. Marion is in a confined and very personal space. This makes her incredibly vulnerable. Then Hitchcock heightens the suspense by creating dramatic irony with the reveal of a shadowy figure closing in on Marion, unbeknownst to her. This creates a lot of anxiety for the audience, knowing the protagonist is vulnerable and in danger with no way of altering the inevitable. Hitchcock then manipulates the audience by revealing a brief silhouette of an old lady as our shower killer. Hitchcock uses this reveal to lie to the audience, he makes the audience think they have more inside knowledge confirming their already growing suspicions, when in reality the audience is misled entirely and the murderer was Norman all along. The way Hitchcock uses the camera to reveal both inside information and misleading information truly keeps the viewer engaged and not knowing what to believe until the truth is finally revealed. By using this unique technique of controlling the audience by only showing what he wants you to see, Hitchcock masterfully defies expectations and creates suspense. Both ... The Code of Ethics clearly defines the behavior and performance standards required by those performing the duties of healthcare executives. The ACHE Code of Ethics is designed in a way that clearly directs healthcare executives in their interactions with patients, employees, and the community. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Code of Ethics defines the behavior standards with which physicians must comply. The AMA Code of Ethics is designed as a concise document outlining the basic duties and responsibilities of physicians. One of the major areas of strength of the AMA Code of Ethics is the principle that outlines that the physician must regard responsibility to the patient as paramount (American Medical Association, n.d., par. 9). This principle outlines that importance of putting the patient first in all care aspects when working with a patient. Along with this, other principles set forth in the AMA Code of Ethics, while involving other aspects of care, state that the rights of the patient shall be acknowledged and followed during patient care. It is very important that healthcare codes of ethics are clear in defining that the patient needs to be considered first and foremost. A weakness of the AMA Code of Ethics is concise nature of the document. While concise can also be regarded as a strength, the concise nature of this Code of Ethics is a disadvantage, as it does not allow for more clear definitions of the ethical principles. For example, the principle stating that physicians shall support access to medical care for everyone does not outline the ways in which physicians should do this or provide any guidance. It seems as though more guidance could be provided with a more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rashdall put forward this argument but it was developed by Sorley. Sorley claims: 1. There is an absolute moral law. Sorley supports this claim with the following reasons: 2. People are conscious of an absolute moral law 3. People acknowledge the demands that this law makes on them even if they break it 4. No finite mind grasps the whole of what this represents 5. Ideas exist only in minds 6. Therefore there must be a supreme mind, beyond all finite minds, in which this absolute moral law exists. • 42. Essay about A Feminist Reading of Cheever’s The... A Feminist Reading of The Five Forty Eight The short story The Five Forty Eight by John Cheever concerns the issue of a woman scorned by the inhumane treatment she has received by men, most notably that of Blake, whose oppression serves as the turning point in her life. This generalization is often the focus of a feminist criticism. Feminists believe that women should have equal rights as men, and they seek to correct or supplement what they regard as a predominantly male dominated critical perspective with a feminist consciousness (Meyer 2014). In this short story, using a feminist consciousness to read the text helps to understand the reasoning behind Miss Dent s need to defeat the idea that males dominate over women. Miss ... Blake is too much of a guilty coward to face Miss Dent after their affairs the night before. To rid himself of his newest problem, he simply fires her although he does not have the guts to fire her himself. As a direct result of the hurt and scorn Miss Dent has experienced throughout her life, mainly at the hands of Blake, she is permanently troubled. While confronting Blake she tells him, you don t know what I ve been through. I m afraid to go out in the daylight (88). Miss Dent s experience with a monster such as Blake has left her extremely insecure and hurt. Blake is not alone in causing Miss Dent s destruction; although, in this story he is a stereotype of all the men in her life who have treated her the same hurtful way. Miss Dent views Blake just like every other man in her life. Blake acknowledges the fact that he is like all men because on the train he noticed that he dressed like the rest of [them] as if he admitted to the existence of the sumptuary laws (82). Notwithstanding the fact that 30 percent of income is applied widely as the golden standard measure of affordability, the study indicates that roughly half of the renting households are in fact spending more on housing than they could afford (2017). Parallel findings have been reported in a Harvard study which indicates that the housing problem becomes more critical in larger metropolitan areas such as San Francisco and New York, where only 25% of the residents can afford the housing (GSD News, 2017). The study suggests that the housing problem in the States will continue to deteriorate attributing to the soaring demands from the millennial generation as they are moving away from their parent s houses and in search for more personal spaces (2017). • 46. The Effects Of Gun Violence On The United States In the United States, over the past few decades, gun violence has increased massively, leading to over 10,000 gun related incidents in 2015. The main cause of the massive amount of violence in the United States in recent decades is mainly because people who are in danger have no means to protect themselves. This is why guns should be more accessible for citizens, so that they can protect themselves in dangerous situations. Allowing citizens to conceal weapons would heavily decrease the amount of incidents that occur because innocent people were unable to protect themselves. Also, putting less control on guns would prevent crimes from even happening in the first place. If a criminal had intentions of committing a crime, they would be much less willing if they knew that they might possibly get shot trying to commit that crime. Thus, criminal activity and violent crimes will cease to continue at such high rates and more people will have the ability to protect themselves in dangerous situations. In areas with high crime rates, certain people are more affected than others, such as minorities, children, and women. America is facing a continuing epidemic of homicides among young black males. The number of black homicide victims killed by guns is rising at a sharp rate of fifty four percent. Studies have shown that consistently there are more black victims than white victims. The assignment here focuses on critically analyzing the published article on Hotel Brand Strategy thereby identifying the different explicit and implicit assumptions made within the article along with the relevant evidences. The assignment further focuses on the analysis of the logics behind the assumptions and the soundness of the logics. The major focus of the assignment is to critically assess the agreement and disagreement issues related to the assumptions thus identified in the article. Identification of assumptions, challenges, reasons and evidences O Neill Mattila (2010) in their published article makes the following assumptions regarding the hotel industry. Assumption 1: Brand name provides tangibility to the services of the hotel companies Challenge to the assumption: Brand name may become a large concept hampering the other services of the hotel. (Pike, 2005) argued that adoption of high branding strategies makes it difficult for the hotel managements to come out of the brand image and establish any personal image in the mind of the consumers. • 48. Euthanasia Is Not Morally Wrong Warren believes that failure to meet any of her criteria means that killing the person who fails the five point personhood test is not morally wrong, regardless of how or why someone would choose to do so. I find an objection to Warren s view because it is absurd and it could lead to controversial actions on behalf of her view s followers. In most, if not all cases, of nonvoluntary active euthanasiathe doctor who performs the euthanasia is charged with murder. This is because almost every country in the world has made nonvoluntary active euthanasia, where a patient wishes not to die but is euthanized anyway, illegal. Despite that, there could be cases in Warren s view that would make it so the act of nonvoluntary active euthanasia is not morally wrong, and the results of her view could be very controversial. One case is where a patient is found to be in a coma or a persistent vegetative state(PVS) and they wish not to die. When a person is in one of these states they meet none the criteria put forth by Warren, and in her view this would make it morally acceptable to actively euthanize this patient. Not only that, but because the patients are not members of the moral community there is no wrong in killing them, and even worse, any way of actively euthanizing them is acceptable. Therefore, her extreme view can cause those who believe her views to think in the same way. Adopting Warren s view on nonvoluntary euthanasia could end badly if the person decides to act on it. • 49. Similarities Between The Balloon And The Red Balloon GEORGETA HARPAD ESL 101 JOBST Love and Friendship Stopping for a few seconds to admire a flower, an insect, a phenomenon of nature, an architecture, etc., in days full of worries, have become memorable. Also, all these seconds sent me every time into a wonderful world, just like Confucius said, Everything has its beauty, but not everyone sees it . The short films The Balloon directed by Martynas Zaremba and The Red Balloon directed by Albert Lamorisse have the plot people s reaction for a few seconds at sight of a black balloon. The Balloon film submits a series of reactions from various people in the city caused by a simple black balloon with no intended meaning. The balloon starts to appear above the city one night while people were sleeping. The Red Balloon , too shows an emotional story of friendship between a boy called Pascal, and his red balloon. The writer and director Lamorisse succeeds through fiction to combine reality, the wonder, and the magic of this friendship. In both short films, the main focus is a floating balloon, but I believe that their differences are more striking than their similarities. Both films The Balloon and The Red Balloon have a similar high point. In my opinion The Balloon high point is that when the balloon appears on a street where a bad boy with a knife in his hand is ready to commit an act of violence. The presence of the balloon in that area stops the bad boy to commit it. Moreover, the bad boy looks his way to sky to admire the balloon for a few seconds. Likewise, the balloon from Lamorisse s film avoid an act of violence. For example, a gang of older kids chases Pascal around city, determined to steal and destroy his balloon. The red balloon performs a miracle, it saves little Pascal from that chase. It sacrifices itself and lets itself tortured with stones to save Pascal s life. Furthermore, the red balloon dies for this cause. However, in three distinct ways, The Balloon and The Red Balloon films are almost opposites. First of all, their score is very different. The Balloon film sound source is the song with lyrics titled Time to Leave of the band Suicide DJs. The lyrics can provide depth, powerful to the song, and make the audience to ... Themes are underlying message, or main ideas, basically the theme is the lesson you learned after you read a story, or in this instance a poem. The theme in New Orleans is that you should put forth the effort to find out about your culture s history. While the theme of Indian Boy Love Song(#2) is that you should, try your hardest to become close to your elders, don t be distant. While both themes are focused on their culture, New Orleans is actually looking for information on her Creek culture, but Indian Boy Love Song (#2) is apologizing about how he s distant from his culture.
