Writing Notes And Playing Video Games Essay
So you get home after a hard day at the office and you boot up your computer, but today you say
to yourself, I m tired of writing notes playing video games, I want to create something ! Your
girlfriend or your wife walk by you as you stare at the wall and she says, what are you dreaming
about ? Then you tell her that you really wanted to be a computerprogrammerinstead of a shoe
salesman. Then she says to you, you should have gone to college a few years to learn a computer
language ! But your 50 years old now and you don t have time and patience like you use to. Well,
I ll tell you something, every application that comes out on the market isn t created by someone
who sits down in front of a computer and punches in hours hours of c++ code or visual basic
scripts. Hey! Let s face it, it s the year 2007 and software technology is going forward faster that
you think. You don t have to sit in front of a computer for years cranking out a bunch of
computer code just to make a light blink anymore! The are applications out there in cyber space
that will allow you to create self running applications with color graphics, video, sound, music and
animation in them by simply using a drag drop interface. Maybe this doesn t mean much to you
but, you can certainly use your brain to do more creating rather than coding. Heck, I ve seen people
create some pretty awesome applications, music players, small games etc. And all without knowing
a bit of computer language. I

Thomas More s Utopia Essay example
Throughout Thomas More s Utopia, he is able to successfully criticize many of the political,
social, and economic ways of the time. His critique of feudalism and capitalism would
eventually come back to haunt him, but would remain etched in stone forever. On July 6, 1535,
by demand of King Henry VIII, More was beheaded for treason. His last words stood as his
ultimate feeling about royalty in the 15th and 16th centuries, The King s good servant, but God s
first. Throughout his life, More spoke his beliefs about feudalism, capitalism, and his ideals of
Utopia; More was a thinker, good friend of Erasmus, and although many critics take Utopia as a

Accused of involvement with others against the split from Rome, More was committed to the
Tower of London, and later beheaded.
Throughout Utopia, Thomas More is able to cause many distractions to the reader while trying to
determine what exactly More was trying to convey. Thomas is able to divide a short complex
novel into two distinct parts with very different narrative perspectives. The first of these
perspectives is Raphael Hythloday, considered to be a radical, `with utopian ideals. The second
character is Thomas More himself. Sir Thomas More did travel to Flanders on behalf of King
Henry VII; however, Raphael Hythloday is only a piece of More s imagination. Soon after
meeting Hythloday, we find out that he is a world traveler and philosopher. We learn of his
voyages with Amerigo Vespucci, his voyage to Ceylon, Calcutta, back to Portugal, only
observing social practices. At this point we read of More s infatuation with Hythloday s
recollection of the island of Utopia. We then see More s criticism of society arise. When More and
Giles suggest to Hythloday that he enter the service of some king or other, Raphael responds,
How can I do that by acting against all my instincts? At present I live exactly as I please, which is
more, I suspect, than the vast majority of court officials can say. Besides, kings have quite enough

What Is The Theme Of Division Convey In The Caged Bird
How is the Theme of Division Convey in the Poems Nothing s Changed and Caged Bird ? First
Draft
Nothing s Changed is written by Tatamkhulu Afrika, and Caged bird is written by Maya Angelou.
Both poems express the reality of division and oppression. The themes of Oppression contrasted
with the theme of Freedom are present in both poems. Angelou, a freedom fighter, who has
experienced injustice against her based on her color, wrote Caged Bird a poem that utilises
contrasting techniques and an extended metaphor to show the importance the significance of
herself as well as the rest of the Black community. Nothing s Changed , is also a poem about
racism, however now in South Africa. The poem presents Afrika s views much more literally than
Angelou does.
Both poems utilize structure to emphasize oppression and segregation. Both poems exhibit a free
verse structure. This means that the poet doesn t use a specific rhyme scheme or any sort of pattern,

Early Detection Of Patient Deterioration
INTRODUCTION
Vital signs consist of the measurement of patient s blood pressure, temperature, respiratory rate,
heart rate and oxygen saturation (Jarvis 2013). They are routinely measured by nurses to gain a
baseline assessment of patient s state of health, monitor for any fluctuations, recognise changes in
patient s condition and to detect for signs of deterioration (Dougherty and Lister 2008 cited in
Phillip et al 2013).
vital signs definition and normal parameters??
Up to 80% of adverse events are predicted by physiological abnormalities that occur over hours
and sometimes days (Kause et al 2004 cited in pantazopoulos 2012). Early detection of patient
deterioration allows for early treatment of infections or hospital acquired pneumonia (Mato 2009,
Mato 2010 and Straub 2014). It can also improve the patient s outcome by potentially preventing
unplanned intensive care unit (ICU) admission, cardiac arrest and unexpected hospital deaths.
(Van Leuvan 2008, Subbe 2003, Hodgetts 2002, Goldhill 2005, Chalmers 2008, Buist 2004). For
an abnormality in a patients vital signs to be detected, they need to be consistently and accurately
recorded for patient deterioration to be recognise. Past research suggests, however, that this
practice is inconsistent (Chua 2013, Pantazopoulos 2011, Jonsson 2011, Osborne 2015, Van
Leuvan 2008, Oliver 2010, Cretikos 2007, Parkes 2011, Cooper 2013, Ansell 2014, Hogan 2006,

The Japanese Informal Rule Over China Between The First...
The high degree of importance of an informal empire to the well being of the formal one is not
always as apparent as people initially think. Informal empires can be compared to an iceberg,
which is larger under the water level and therefore the actual base without which the whole iceberg
would go down (Duus et al., 1989). The case of the Japanese informal rule over Chinabetween the
First and Second Sino Japanese Wars is an example of how this type of rule was immensely
beneficial to the expansion of the Japanese empire itself. There are three main things that Japan and
the colonies of Japan profited from: economically important trade and investment on Chinese soil,
having great political influence on the Chinese government in order to... Show more content on

With the creation of the informal empire the Japanese started exporting tons of goods for China s
vast population and importing raw materials and resources which were valuable for the Japanese
Empire and its expansion. They also gained rights over the Manchuria Railways and different
cotton mills. Japan benefitted more from the trade in China that the other foreigners there because
of the proximity of the two so the shipping costs were lower for Japanese manufacturers than for
goods shipped from the West (Duus et al., 1989, p.xiii).
At first, maintaining an informal empire was seen as a better alternative than annexing China, in
order for Japan to avoid paying the high cost of annexation and maintenance and incurring the wrath
of the anti Japanese patriots. Because China and Japan had cultural similarities it was easier for the
Chinese to accept the Japanese presence in their country: it may well be that this greater familiarity
with Chinese culture gave advantages to Japanese enterprises that the Western firms did not enjoy
(Duus et al., 1989, p.9). As the instability had weakened the Chinese government, in 1915 Japan
saw that as the perfect opportunity to impose further demands (The Twenty One Demands), even
though they did not gain much of it and ruined their relationships with the British and the
Americans. Therefore, the Japanese became more and more dependent on China and eventually the
Japanese grew

Wilhelm II was born into royalty on the 27th of January 1859, at the Crown Prince s Palace in
Berlin to Prince Frederick William of Prussia who would later become the future Frederick III and
his wife Victoria, who is the oldest daughter of Britain s Queen Victoria. at the moment he was

Queen Victoria and Prince Albert of England, and is also the first son of the Crown Prince of
Prussia, Wilhelm was from 186, second in the line of succession to Prussia, and, after 1871, to the
new German Empire, which then according to the constitution of the German Empire, was ruled by
the King of Prussia.
A birth defect left him with a withered left arm due to the disease Erb s palsy, which he then
tried with some success to conceal. Photos show him with a pair of white gloves in his left hand
to make the withered arm seem longer. In others, he holds his left hand with his right or has his
withered arm on the bottom of a sword. In others, he is seen holding a cane to give the image of a
useful limb posed at a dignified angle. His left arm was about 6 inches shorter than his right arm.

The Electoral College Should Be Abolished
Every 4 years, our country makes an incredibly important decision. We vote for the person who
will represent the US in all domestic and international affairs; The President. Currently, we have
many troops in Iraq fighting to help them establish a democracy. We are giving the citizens a
right to vote, a privilege that many people claim we are lucky to have. In actuality, how
democratic is our system overall? What many people don t realize or care to face, is we don t
directly vote for our president. In 2000, the majority of us voted for a President who in the end was
not determined the winner. There are many other corruptions in our current electoral system,
including the underlying racist and sexist roots, voter inequality and other flaws... Show more

What, do I chuse [sic] Samuel Miles to determine for me whether John Adams or Thomas Jefferson
shall be President? No! I chuse [sic] him to act, not to think! was the outcry of an angry Federalist
as written in the United States Gazette (Peirce, 23). Since then there has been more than 8 cases
of faithless votes being cast (Peirce, 23). The problem that has brought the Electoral College to
the spotlight in the past few years is the fact that the Electoral College winner does not always
reflect the winner of the popular vote. This has already occurred three times in history: Rutherford
B. Hays vs. Samuel J. Tilden in 1876, Benjamin Harrison vs. Grover Cleveland in 1888 and most
recently, the 2000 election between Gore and Bush (Cornwell). Although half a million more
Americans voted for Al Gore than did for George Bush, Bush won the Electoral College 271 to
266, granting him the presidency (Abolish the Electoral College). It doesn t make much sense
that the candidate in which received a majority of the votes overall would lose. Another way to
understand the Electoral College is to take an in depth look at it s origins. The Electoral College
is a system based on historic policies that no longer exist and are irrelevant to modern voting. The
delegates who developed the Electoral College believed that voters would not be able to make a

The Role Of Commercialism In White Noise By Don Delillo
Life...Made better This is promising the slogan for Dash In convenience stores. It is a promise
that stopping at their store will improve your life. It is a promise that you are not lying to
yourself every time you step through those glass doors. In the book White Noise by Don Delillo,
readers experience the story of this kind of lie and it s consequences. It follows an introspective
college professor and his dealings with his fear of death. It does so against the background of a busy
family life, full of colorful characters. White Noise highlights the truths of humanity in a satirical
fashion, expertly weaving the American dream into the troubled psyche of the main character, Jack.
White Noise reveals that the modern tools of humanity are shallow protections against the reality of
life and death.
The role of blinding commercialism in people s lives is to provide comfort in its repetitiveness and
thoughtlessness. Commercialism does not encourage deep thought by any means, it prays on the
quick impulses of the human mind. Murray points this out when talking to Jack about his students
and their dislike of television, Look at the wealth of data concealed in the grid, in the bright
packaging, the jingles, the slice of life commercials, the products hurtling out of darkness, the coded
messages and endless repetitions, like chants, like mantras. (51). Murray s studying the television
shows just how much can be learned about humankind from it. Through the use of a simile,

2010-2012 Netflix Financials Essay
The Evolution of the Netflix Empire
Netflix has quickly become a household name by saturating the market with a new age way to
rent movies. Established in 1998, Netflix geared its business to provide consumers with quick and
easy access to their favorite movies without the need to leave their homes. As the business
developed and other popular sites, such as YouTube, began to gain popularity Netflix entered the
market of streaming online content. During the infancy of their instant service Netflix still relied
heavily on mailing DVDs to offer their customers a wider range of movies and TV shows.

With Netflix thriving and gaining so many new customers while still investing so much into their
streaming segment of the business, it would be expected that the company would also invest in
their physical DVD content as well. However, this was not the case. In the first two quarters of
2011, Netflix had invested less and less, $22 million and $19 million, respectively, in their DVD
content, compared to the $32 million the company had invested in the fourth quarter of 2010.
Following the additions, or lack thereof, in their streaming and DVD content, Netflix had
increased their cost of revenues in the first two quarters by roughly 129%, when compared to their
average cost of revenues for 2010. However, with the increased customer base, resulting in
increased revenue in each quarter of $719 million and $789 million, respectively, Netflix was still
able to prove its dominance in their field by continuing to increase their net income in the first two
quarters to both $60 million and $68 million, respectively.
Netflix exhibited such promise coming out of a good year in 2010 and a strong first two
quarters; Netflix was clearly taking a stance in the market as one of the only providers of its type.
This was illustrated by the increased customer base as well as in the stock market. In the first half of

Why Is Gord Downie Significant To Canadian History
Gord Downie was a proud Canadian, rock musician, writer, and activist. He was the lead singer
and songwriter for the The Tragically Hip, from Kingston Ontario, which he began in 1984 and
proudly fronted in until his death in 2017. Gord Downie is significant to Canadian history because
he has raised awareness for Indigenous peoples, helped gain substantial amounts of donation for
cancer research, and wrote songs about Canadaand its history.
To begin, Gord Downie is significant to Canadian history because he made Indigenous issues
more prevalent to Canada s modern day society. To start, Gord Downie helped bring awareness to
Indigenous people by writing a book and an album about their struggles called The Secret Path

Their songs not only spotlighted Canadian stories, but did so in a unique, unconventional, often
cryptic style (3). For example, a song that displays Canadian history that Gord Downie wrote and
sang is Wheat Kings . This song is about David Milgaard, a 16 year old boy who was wrongly
convicted of the rape and murder of a woman. Milgaard stayed in jail for 22 years, and then
finally was let out because he was proven not guilty(6).This is significant because The Tragically
Hip are perceived as a Canada loving band, and though they are, they still write and sing about
controversial issues and have critiqued Canada when our nation does wrong. Another song that
was written about Canadian history is Fifty Mission Cap . This song was written about Bill
Barilko, a Toronto Maple leaf player who had scored the winning goal for Toronto s first Stanley
Cup. Barilko, later on that year went on a fishing trip, but his plane crashed on the way home. He
was found dead 11 years after(9). The song talks about important moments in Canadian sports
history, which touches the hearts and is relevant to the large population of people who are
passionate about hockey. To continue, Gord Downie wrote a song called Three pistols . This song
was written about Tom Thomson, a Canadian painter who the founder of the famous Canadian
painting group called The Group Of Seven. Thomson was out at Algonquin Park on Canoe Lake,
painting and canoeing and was later found dead due to drowning. From then on, there have been
many conspiracy theories about his death(8). This song is relevant to Canadians that are passionate
about art and art history because there are so few songs that are about art, not to mention Canadian
art. Overall, Gord Downie told Canadian history throughout his music, and touched on contrasting
Canadian topics, solidifying his significance to

The Problem Of An Internal Malfunction Within A Computer
Abstract
Overheating is a symptom of an internal malfunction within a computer. Although, computer
manufacturer s created the computer as new working condition, they still fall short. God also
created mankind in a good order, however, they too fell short. Computer overheating symptoms may
include the actual power supply, computer overloading, fan failure, inadequate ventilation outside
or around the computer system, inadequate ventilation inside the computer system, and even dirt
and dust. By diagnosing the cause of overheating you can correct the problem and get your
computer back up to a normal operational use. In the same way, sin comes in many forms and the
correct solution to the problem of mankind is the Gospel of Christ.

Organizational Change and Resistance Intervention
Organizational Change and Resistance Intervention Honor Student University of Somewhere
Organizational Change and Resistance Intervention Growth within any organization brings about a
certain amount of change, and this can be unsettling to some individuals who have grown
accustomed to a certain way of doing things, as well as a feeling of being overwhelmed with new
functionalities and a sense that their once close nit family oriented business has exploded into an
organization where they are now just a number on a spreadsheet. This can be the springboard
towards resistance to change, but numerous varieties exist, and it is those that might originate from

Instituting such change as self managed work teams or participative decision making can threaten
middle managers and supervisors, and a change to resource allocations that could possibly mean a
cut in staff size or a reduction in budget will definitely be seen as a threat by those groups within an
organization that are in control of sizable resources (Explore HR, n.d.). There are numerous ways to
decrease, or mitigate resistance to change; some of which are: * Education and Communication *
Participation and Involvement * Building Support and Commitment * Manipulation and Co option
* Coercion Of the ones mentioned here, most believe education and communication are among the
top methods of mitigating and overcoming resistance to change. Communicating and educating
your personnel and organization with regard to the change in advance can aid employees in
visualizing the logic in the change effort, which can be extremely beneficial to reducing resistance
as it can alleviate the possibility of unsubstantiated and inaccurate rumors relating to the effects of
the change on the organization. Participation and involvement is also extremely important, because
when employees are actually involved in the change effort they are generally more likely to accept
it, rather than resist it. Building support and commitment is essential on the part of management
throughout the change process. The support of management will help employees cope with fear and

Koyaanisqatsi Life Out Of Balance Analysis
In the 1982 film by Godfrey Reggio, Ron Fricke and Philip Glass, Koyaanisqatsi: Life out of
Balance, the filmmakers use imagery and music rather than dialogue to convey emotion, time and
meaning. The images in the film is primarily time lapse and slow motion footage of natural
landscapes in the United States, cities and human machinery/development. It requires skill and
experience to create a film with no dialogue that can effectively convey a message. Without words
it would also be challenging creating climax and convey time. The filmmakers of Koyaanisqatsi
creatively used contrast in images to display time passing and to build or lesson the drama to
transition to the next scene. In photography and filmmaking contrast refers to the difference in
tones from the lightest tone to the darkest tone. Throughout the film there are many aerial shots
of canyons especially in chapter two, Organic. The first canyon image in the movie is an aerial
shot of what looks like the Grand Canyon. There is uneven rock formation rows in front of each
other. The sunlight is coming from behind the camera, creating deep shadows on the front of the
first valley and it creates deep shadows on the valley behind it. This shot moves very slowly
across this area and then cuts to several close up shots of parts of the canyon, these images are
low contrast they are mostly orange without distinct harsh shadows. After the closeups, there are
more aerial shots of the canyon. With each shot the valleys get shallower and the contrast lowers.
The shadows are less distinct as the land flattens, the land also has more and greener as it gets
flatter, one of the last canyon shot we see before the transition to the next chapter shows the sun
rising over completely flat desert like land in the area. For this chapter the filmmakers used
regression of contrast to create transition from one scene to the next. The flattening in land with the
lowering in contrast also shows time and how what used to be vibrant, with harsh and distinct lines
and shadows can fade and erode into flat land with no depth and no contrast. The next chapter is
named clouds, they use water to transition from dry harsh land to the flowing clouds in the sky. The
film shows rushing

are the kind of couple that you would never expect to be together. When Jacob walked into my

acquaintances. At the time I doubted myself and my career as a hair stylist. The day I met
Jacob, everything changed. He wanted to be my friend even though I pushed him away. I felt as
if the friends I had did not want to pull me out of my dark place, and then he would not be the
one to do it. I assumed he would give up like all of my other friends had. Jacob did the
impossible; he opened me up and befriended me. Financially, I have been struggling for quite
some time. After only knowing each other for one short month, I asked him to move in with me.

Virtual Colonoscopy Research Paper
Virtual Colonoscopy
Virtual colonoscopy is a procedure that can be used to examine the large intestine (colon), the
rectum, and the small intestine. In this procedure, X rays and computers (CT scan or MRI) are
used to produce images of these body areas. The exam can help find problems such as tumors,
polyps, or diverticulosis.
Virtual colonoscopy provides a way to examine the colon without inserting the flexible instrument
(colonoscope) into the colon as is done in a regular colonoscopy. However, a virtual colonoscopy
does not show as much detail, so smaller polyps may not be seen during this procedure. Also, your
health care provider cannot take tissue samples or remove polyps during a virtual colonoscopy. If

RISKS AND COMPLICATIONS
Generally, this is a safe procedure. However, problems can occur and include:
A tear in the lining of the colon from inflating the colon with air during the procedure. The risk of
this is small.
Exposure to radiation (small amount).
BEFORE THE PROCEDURE
Ask your health care provider about changing or stopping your regular medicines. This is especially
important if you are taking diabetes medicines or blood thinners.
You may be prescribed an oral bowel prep. This involves drinking a large amount of medicated
liquid, starting the day before your procedure. The liquid will cause you to have multiple loose
stools until your stool is almost clear or light green. This cleans out your colon in preparation for
the procedure.
Do not eat or drink anything else once you have started the bowel prep, unless your health care
provider tells you it is safe to do so.

A Basic Overview of Paganism Essay examples
Religion is about creation, and for that reason religion should be about the earth. Laurie Cabot.
One might see hundreds of faces from different races, gender, and pop cultures. But behind each
face is a brain, with spirit and personal beliefs, like religion. When many Americans believe that
everyone is Christian or Catholic, some people practice an ancient religion. This religion,
commonly known as the umbrella term Paganism is back on the move with a contemporary feel.
Paganism is an earth based religion, focusing around the elements and nature. Throughout this paper
Paganism will be explained, along with two of its well known sections, how Pagans worship, and
Pagan holidays.
Paganism has many sub cultures, such as Wiccan, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some follow the Goddess theory. The Goddess theory states that there is just one Goddess who
rules over. Many depict her as Mother Earth, holding plants and caring for animals and humans
alike. Pictures and art of the Goddess is normally a pregnant woman, to show how every life
comes from her womb. Women normally follow this path because of the matriarchal feel of this
path. The Mother Goddess is worshiped through the lunar cycle and also depicted by the waxing,
full and waning moon.
Other Pagans bring ancient religions into contemporary worship, such as Greek, Roman, or
Egyptian mythology. In these different mythologies, there are many gods and goddesses with
different jobs of everyday life, like the Greek god Helios who drove the sun with his chariot
around the world everyday. Though the gods all have different names from the different cultures,
they re all about the same deities. The Greeks and Romans learned from the Egyptians, using
cultural diffusion. In everyday life, Pagans who chose this path will pray to certain deities for
help or guidance on what they rule over. Often, Pagans will choose a couple certain deities to
focus their worship on, whether because of a spiritual bond or because of a coven s pre chosen path.
Paganism is actually a word that s used to describe the whole group of New Age religions, like
NeoPaganism, Wiccan and others. NeoPaganism is the contemporary worship of older Pagan
beliefs and using old rituals in today s culture.

The Principle Of Affinity Chromatography
The objective of this lab was to learn the principle of affinity chromatography by isolating a
carbohydrate binding protein from an extract of jack bean meal.
The protein that was used for this lab came from jack bean meal, and it is identified as
Concanavalin A, or Con A. This is a lectin proteinthat has the ability to bind with glucose, but it is
not a glycoprotein. Furthermore, the monomeric molecular weight of this protein is 25,5001.
Concanavalin A also exists as a dimer and a tetramer, and this depends upon the pH of this
substance. Finally, Con A requires a transition metal ion such as manganese as well as calcium ions
for binding purposes.
1.Begin by inserting a cheesecloth into a syringe and pressing the cheesecloth to the very bottom of
the column.
2.Pour 10 ml of the affinity gel into the column. Allow a few minutes for the solution to harden and
transform into a gel like consistency.
3.Fill the rest of the column with NaCl, and do so by pouring the solution along the interior side of
the column. This allows the gel to become moist.
4.Next, gather 0.5 ml of the protein extract and save this portion in a separate container. This will
be used for the preparation of the membrane.
5.Load the remaining protein mix into the column, and this will begin to bind within the column.
Once the solution has settled, fill the column with NaCl a total of four times; as the wash is
flowing through, collect and label the protein solution in fractions, and save for the

The Future of Freedom

The Future of Freedom
In his book, The Future of Freedom, Fareed Zakaria writes that we must make democracy safe for
the world. The American democracy sets the standard around the world for liberal democracies, but
transitions across for other countries across the world toward a liberal democracy is often difficult
and with poor decision making, close to impossible. Liberal democracies are the systems in
which people choose their government and live in an environment of freedom. In Zakaria s book,
he warns the readers of several telltale signs that their process toward a liberal democracy is in
trouble. He uses examples of different countries doing it right and doing it wrong the ones

Zakaria writes, They know that to introduce capitalism into China requires much more than
economic changes, so they have allowed significant reforms of the administrative and legal
systems as well (81). Although Zakaria argues that China must reform its political system, he
says a quick transition to a liberal democracy can lead to chaos, because of the large size of the
country and the small size of its middle class. Other reasons, and probably more realistic reasons
for China s slow progression towards a democratic state is that the leaders want to clasp to its
stronghold on the political system.
Can democracy work in China? Zakaria feels it cannot be ignored the progress the Chinese
economy has had under its state as a free economy. But the problem continues to be the political
progress of this country. China still only has a small middle class, which is detrimental towards
a functioning liberal democracy. During the 1980s, there were pushes for political reform from
members of the political scene as well as from the public but all that came to a halt during the
massacre in Tiananmen Square when soldiers stomped out the early fires of democracy
(Zakaria,83). But in 1992, China s leader, Deng Xiaoping, gave his blessing for open economic
markets (Zakaria, 83). That leads us to the present time.

Analysis Of Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Great Gatsby
Nathaniel Hawthorne has written may pieces of literature that has made us dig deep inside his
words to extract different meanings. He is well known for being one of the fathers of the
American short story. He is considered a Dark Romantic whose perception is muddled by limits
on human consciousness; where truth is uncertain and it shadows our abilities (Moreland). He is
of Puritan descendent and therefore his writing portrays anxiety, guilt, self depression and sins
being passed down (Moreland). His writing demonstrates how he likes to go deep within an
individual s unconscious. One of his best short stories is Rappaccini s Daughter. There is so much
to take in from such a short story. He includes cultural contexts pertaining to the nineteenth century
women s equality as well as ethical choices which turn out to be unethical. Hawthorne is a Puritan
and therefore his literature demonstrates it s religion. For example, when Giovanni, the medical
student, is observing Doctor Rappaccini s garden. The first thing he notices is all the great
vegetation. As he continues observing, he sees Rappaccini is touching the plants with gloves and
he is being very careful not to inhale its fragrance. He wonders if this garden is the Eden of
modern times in the following passage:
Nevertheless, in spite of the deep intelligence on his part, there was no approach to intimacy

The Characteristics And Differences Between Radio And Radio
1.The skills one needs to be a radio listener, are more sophisticated then the skills one would use to
understand and interpret a television program. When listening to the radio, one has to be an active
listener. It requires you to pay more attention as the information is being processed solely through
auditory stimulation. This is unlike watching televisionwhich provides both auditory and visual
stimulation. Personally, when listening to Orson Welles War of the Worlds from October 30th
1938, I found myself more easily distracted comparing to when watching a television program or
newsstory. It is much easier to pay attention to the later. Moreover, listening to the radio requires
a person to use their own imagination more vividly. The audience has to take in what is being
described and create their own personal picture of the event. Television seems to give us a more
realistic understanding of what it is news anchor is talking about as the consumers can be shown
pictures or film footage of the event being discussed. This add to the audience s view of the
incident in its entirety. On the radio, the news broadcasters have to be more descriptive when
describing the currents events as their descriptions are the sole foundation that the listener s
imagination will be based on. It is only through their description that the listener will get an
understanding of whatever is being discussed. The radio host must therefore put in more detail than
a television host. As expected, a

Construction Sequence for a Typical Project
Work Events Make Construction Sequence A Typical Project
Construction Sequence for Typical Project Management of construction projects needs skills and
knowledge in modern management and comprehension of construction and design process. In
construction projects, the relevant technology processes, and arrangements differ, but common
sequence of events apply. Construction projects generally require a specification of the project plans
and objectives that entail budgeting, scope, setting of performance requirements, scheduling, and

utilization by procurement of materials, labor, and equipment to project plan and schedule. In
addition, it leads to implementation of several operations by effective control, estimation, design,

Marketing strategy is the outcome of certain principles and the principles involves various

On the other hand the processes define the ways to achieve organizational objectives. It is
necessary to identify the overall objectives, goals and mission of the company in order to devise

Vassalage And Senmenment In The Song Of Roland, Oliver And...
The word, vassalage will have a different meaning to different people and their personalities. This
will cause people to argue about how to deal with situations and what course of action is the best
option.
According to Merriam Webster Dictionary, vassalage is defined as a position of subordination or
submission to a political power. While a vassal is someone who is under the protection of someone
with authority such as a feudal lord. This person (vassal) will feel obligated to vow their loyalty
to that person in power. In The Song of Roland , Oliver and Roland both have a different
definition on what makes a great vassal. This paper will discuss both viewpoints on what makes a
marvelous vassal , why the poet used Roland and Oliver to balance out vassals, and a brief
understanding of vassalage and fief holding.
First, a vassal and fief holding is more than just someone of lower status being obedient to their
ruler and using their land to pay them. According to Britannica, some vassals were apart of their
lord s court as household knights. Although, vassals who did not live in their lord s court were
required to have a fief in order to sustain his land and have a solid holding of his service for his
lord and/or king. However, if the vassal did something to violate or break his allegiance to his lord
then it could result is a felony. This could explain why Roland refused several times to use his horn
to call Charlemagne. However, he mentioned several times that calling

The Social Shame Of Prostitutes
Prostitutes are again compared to dogs because of their societal shame except this time in the
New Testament. This occurs in the book of Revelation. Blessed are those who wash their robes,
so that they will have the right to the tree of life and may enter the city by the gates. Outside are
the dogs and sorcerers and fornicators and murderers and idolaters, and everyone who loves and
practices falsehood. Revelation 22: 14 15. This verse alludes to the fact that prostitutes or
fornicators are lowly and wicked since they are compared to dogs. Another noteworthy point is
that they are also grouped together with other sinners including: sorcerers, murderers, and
idolaters and it is even written that these people love and practices falsehood . These are truly
wicked people as they literally love to practice their sins. These wicked people face damnation as
they are locked outside of Heaven but this point concerning damnation will be expanded upon
later in the essay. This verse is another example of the societal shame concerning prostitutes
because of their wickedness. I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral
persons not at all meaning the immoral of this world, or the greedy and robbers, or idolaters,
since you would then need to go out of the world. But now I am writing to you not to associate
with anyone who bears the name of brother or sister who is sexually immoral or greedy, or is an
idolater, reviler, drunkard, or robber. Do not even eat

Surviving The Holocaust
Have you ever wondered how the people survived the Holocaust? Would you know how to protect
yourself if you were in that position? Would you know how to live with people dieing in front of
you?
It all started in January 1933, it ended after thirteen years on May 8 ,1946, after Hitler
committed suicide. In 1935 1939, 121 new laws and ordinances were made, this made the Jews
lives very frustrating and difficult. In 1935 the Nuremberg laws were passed, Jews were no longer
citizens of Germany. These people that were striped of their citizenships were defined Jews, partial
Jews, and Aryan. Children were especially targeted by the Nazi s during the Holocaust because the
Nazi s feared that if the children lived that they would become ... Show more content on

In 1946, a pest control company was tried for selling huge quantities of Zyklon B to the
concentration camps. Carbon monoxide was originally used until they got their hands on
Zyklon B. They would stuff the people in and screw the doors shut and then release the carbon
monoxide. After they found Zyklon B then they would drop the pellets into the vent and then
the pellets would release toxic gas. In the gas chambers, the gas would rise from the lower air
and then it would rise to the top. When the gas would start to reach the top, people would climb
on top of people so that that way they could get the non toxic air at the top. Jewish prisoners were
burned in ovens because the Nazis didn t want eyewitnesses. A total of one third of the Jewish
people who were alive at that time were killed in the Holocaust.
After reading all the research about the Holocaust, I thought to myself I can t imagine being in a
concentration camp and having my family there too. I am so happy to be living in America today
because no matter what color skin you are or religion you are we can all get along together. I
really hope this never happens again. Just make sure that every morning you wake up and

The Importance Of English Education
Based on the numerous sources of sound data available, U.S. is currently out educated. On the
latest Program for International Student Assessment form 2015, the United States scored an
average in reading and science, and below average in math. Results had been unchanged since
2000. U.S. scores are behind global leaders like Finland, South Korea and Canada. It is not a
surprise that Shanghai outscored every other country, in all areas tested.
As U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Dunkan said at the Foreign Language Summit, 2010: We
have to educate our way to a better economy, just as our competitors are doing. We see this as a
challenge to get better, and one place we obviously need to get better is in teaching languages. The
United States is a long way from being the multi lingual society that so many of our competitors
are. My message to you today is that K 12 schools and higher education institutions must be part of
the solution to our language gap.
A world class education requires students to read and communicate other languages, in addition to
English. We need the Department of Education support now, more than ever, in implementing
second language instruction starting with early education and continuing engaging students in
language, throughout high school and college. In an increasingly complex and interconnected
world, it is without a doubt of utmost importance for the citizens of the United States to become
fluent in the world languages. As Americans, we have

Postmodern Religion
Problem Statements:
1)The local church must learn to focus its energy/efforts in the community where is resides. How
can we learn to serve and love our neighbors when we do not even know our literal neighbors next
door? As Nehemiah told the people in Jerusalem who were rebuilding the walls of the city, you
must begin where you are at where you live.
2)We live in a time of great ecological and environmental crisis in which the local church must
provide a theological and tangible response. Global warming is not only a threat to animals and
land, but to humans as well (all creation). Additionally, this is not only an environmental issue, but
also an issue of social justice (race, poverty, etc.).
3)The local church must proclaim a robust understanding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Of course, this is impossible. The good news that God is reconciling all creation through Christ
presses upon every aspect of our lives (past, present, future). If we are to be true to the gospel
message, we can no longer simply relegate it to a way to get to heaven when we die (or avoid
hell) or simply substitute it for a liberal, progressive agenda. In our postmodern era people are
wondering whether the gospel message is true, and to discern whether it is true, they look to the
Christians to see whether or not the truth of the gospel has any tangible effects on the way we
live in and see the world. Unfortunately, far too often, we have failed to incarnate the gospel
message and re present the body of Christ to the world. My hope, however, is to offer one
tangible way in which we live out the gospel. Not only are we creating a space to share the good
news of God s love for all creation (and God s redemptive work in the world), but we are actively
engaging with God in the work of new creation by living out our faith. Our message to our
neighbors is simple: We believe God loves you and not only you, but all creation. And we do too.
We want to join with God in celebrating, cherishing and transforming the world. Green
Evangelism is a way of spreading the good news and telling our neighbors that they are loved
and cherished by God and their local church. It s a way of serving them and telling them that the
church cares about the earth too. Even if they are not interested in saving the earth or going
green, the gift of the LED lightbulbs is a way of helping them save money ($150/year savings
would be a huge help to our low middle class neighborhood) which is a whole lot better than a pen
or a mug with Piney Mountain UMC on it. Our hope is to embody our faith to our neighbors and

Dharma in the Mahabharta Essays
Dharma in the Mahabharta
The concept of dharma is the most central and core concept of Hindu philosophy, all the other
principles and values flow from the beautiful fountain of Dharma (Srinivasan n.d., 1). Consequently,
the Hindu scriptures present many examples of its importance in a variety of ways. The two epics
Mahabharata and Ramayana are particularly interesting in their presentation of dharma.
Dharma is Sanskrit word with many different connotations that are mostly of ethical nature. Thus
far, there has not been a parallel word found for it in English or any language that truly signifies the
essence of it. It comes from the root word, dhr, which literally means to uphold, sustain, and
maintain a thing in its being. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The concept of dharma is very broad and is very difficult to grasp because there is no clear cut
definition of dharma that captures the essence of it. However, one can try to see how the works
like the Mahabharata approach the concept. The epic mainly deals with the loss and
reestablishment of dharma on Earth. For whensoever Dharma declines and Adharma uprises, the
Bhagavan (god) creates himself to guard the good and to destroy the wicked; to establish the
Dharma firmly, he comes into being again and again (Sukthankar 1998, 79). In the Mahabharata,
the story goes that Earth burdened by the tyranny of demonic kings then ruling requests Visnu to
relieve her burden; and Visnu decides to do so by, along with other heavenly beings: gods, rsis,
gandharvas, kinnaras and so on, taking birth among the Yadavas. A war is fought with purpose of
ending the tyranny of the demonic kings and restoring dharma on decline due to the tyranny, also,
in turn relieving Earth s burden. However, all this does not take place with such simplicity. The
Mahabharata War, as one remembers, was fought between cousins, the Kauravas and the Pandavas.
Throughout history many wars between cousins have taken place, then what makes the
Mahabharata War so special to gain such recognition. As it turns out, what gives this trivial tale of

Music Therapy Papers
Music Therapy
Music therapy spans and assists various areas of medicine. To further understand the benefits of
music therapy one must first learn what it is, who is qualified to perform, and who it helps. With
further public education and acceptance, music therapy outreach can help many patients.
The first thing that must be explained is what music therapy is. Music Therapy is the clinical and
evidence based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic
relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program.

When people decide to go through with music therapy they research it to see what happens
during a music therapy session. During a music therapy session most patients will sit down in a
room and they will either listen to music or they will play an instrument that is provided in the
sessions room. When the patients come out of the room they should feel refreshed or as if they
have started a new day. As for how much a music therapy session costs, the groups normally costs
anywhere from $130 to $200 dollars an hour depending on the type of session. When people think
of music therapy they might think of someone sitting down in a room and listening to music the
whole time and then just leaving feeling like a new person, but it is much more than that. When
people start music therapy they are expecting nothing less than listening to music and talking about
what made them come to these sessions. Although when they walk in they are presented with
many opportunities like playing a type of music they like on a drum or different type of
instrument. During the session the music therapists ask how the music they play or listen to makes
them feel. Most sessions have good results ending in a happy patient and a satisfied therapist, but
those sessions that don t go as well as planned might need to take a longer time to help that

Hope Walkathon
Ordinarily, the psychological tool of influence that I noticed that became utilized in Figure 9.6 use
commitment/consistency as a psychological tool of power. Nevertheless, the writer is attempting
to appeals to the emotional feeling by trying to convince the reader into committing to the breast
cancer cause by establishing the idea of caring for the women in the lives, as being congruent with
caring for their selves. However, the logical appeal is through the facts that had become presented,
for example, nearly 182,460 women will begin to develop breast cancerthis year in our country.
Dejectedly, Breast cancerranks second cancer deaths in women.
Therefore, I would consider this message catering to the emotional side of the appeal since the
talking about Breast Cancer guilts the person into joining. Additionally, consistency has become
based on the notion that once people make an explicit commitment, in this case to the benefiting the
breast cancer awareness and prevention, the writer shows that they started committing to the breast
cancer cause and they want to stay consistent in helping with their original commitment. ... Show

Essay on James I influence in Shakespeare s Writing
After the Christian conquest across Europe during the medieval period other beliefs were restricted.
This period was very authoritarian but later the Renaissance unlocked opportunities to the
imagination and the idea of supernatural started to bloom. Although, the supernatural is sometime
mistaken with the gods of certain religions, believing in ghosts and witches was independent from
the people chosen religion. The question of the existence of the supernatural, or something bigger
than us, in 16th century Europe focused mainly on God from the Christian perspective. During this
time other supernatural characters were brought to light, affecting the politics of the monarchies as
it did during the rule of King James I in England.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The tragedy of Macbeth, darker and more cynical (BBC Higher Bitesize English Background:
Revision 1), written during the Jacobean period, reflected the insecurities of the time for the
many prosecutions made by James. The idea of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth s conspiracy is said
to be inspired from the Gunpowder Plot when Guy Fawkes and his men tried to blow up James
and his parliament in 1605 (BBC Higher Bitesize English Background: Revision 2). This plot
resulted in strict penalties on Roman Catholics and therefore created a feeling of terror among
the population. It is also said that Shakespeare included Banquo in Macbeth in honor of the
Stuarts: Banquo is of a political nature. It was believed at the time Macbeth was written that King
James was Banquo s direct descendant, and this presumption might have influenced Shakespeare
s characterization of Banquo as an innocent victim rather than an assassin. (Mabillard 19) At the
beginning Banquo s trust in Macbeth show the morals of a loyal friend and responsibility men as
he does not try to hurry the process of his fate reveled by the witches. Historically, in the book
Holinshed s Chronicles Banquo becomes an accomplice in the murder of King Duncan (Mabillard
17). Macbeth changes his role in Duncan s murder to show his support for King

Home Router Essay
Abstract
Wireless home routers is the only barrier between a user s personal information and the internet.
Such a vital position in the user s network requires that the routers operate securely.
Unfortunately, recent research indicate that these devices have various security issues which
expose them to malware attacks. To address the growing concerns about the security of home
routers, it is important to perform dynamic analysis on home routers, even without accessing the
actual hardware. This paper looks at the importance of home router security, the need for dedicated
analysis tools through emulation and the process involved in emulating and profiling an ARM
architecture based home router.
We emulate an ARM router and test the behaviour of this router via an emulated client. This has
been done by using QEMU, an emulation tool, to virtualize the router. Upon development of the
emulated ARM router and client, we found the task more difficult than previously thought due to a
bug with the pcnet network interface card in qemu. We also performed analysis on the system calls
generated when traffic was passed through the MIPSLE architecture based router and arrived at the
conclusion that our environment is capable of detecting vulnerabilities in the security when the
router is exposed to malware.

A Research on Team and Group Communication Processes
Team and Group Communication Processes:
The systematic description on the nature of the processes of communication in several areas
including businesses and organizations is known as communication theory. Organizations and
businesses are required to understand the concept of communication theory because the
achievement of organizational and business goals is dependent on effective communication.
Communication theory focuses on examining the process of transmitting information from the
sender to the receiver. Furthermore, communication theory analyzed the various means for transfer
of information from one medium to the other. As people across the globe have been working with
several communication theories, these theories provide an abstract understanding of the process of
communication.
A theoretical explanation of communication processes is usually provided when professionals
across various fields talk about their communication strategies, types, and effectiveness (Dainton,
2004). In the healthcare sector, primary health care team members and other caregivers or service
providers are usually required to communicate effectively with one another in order to enhance the
quality of service. This is largely because there is a direct relationship between communication and
team or group effectiveness.

on teamwork, groups or teams work more effectively when all members actively

The Benefits Of Long Distance Relationships
Long distance relationships are common in our present day culture because of personal choices.
We are connected on a global scale and these connections are not only economical, they are also
romantic. Personally, this facet of living in 2017 has affected the relationship with my boyfriend
and many problems occur when living far away from the person I love. Commonly, the
problems caused by distances in communication create turmoil that transition into our romantic
lives. The solution for this concern is based on a technology product that provides individuals a
wider range of options. Macmillan Dictionary defines long distance relationship as a romantic
relationship between two people who live far apart and so cannot see each other very often. By
saying long distance relationship, it is not only an obstacle for lovers. Married couples, friends,
and parents with their children might also experience the same situation. Geographically
separation can come from a variety of reasons, including college students going to different
school, individuals pursue different career goals, and for immigration purpose. Married couples
can be separated due to military service or deployment. Not many people believe in the durability
of a long distance relationship. In my case, I choose to study abroad for my major while my
boyfriend is currently living in Vietnam. I have to admit that it is not easy to keep a relationship
going strong. If it is tough to maintain a healthy relationship in a

  • 4. Thomas More s Utopia Essay example Throughout Thomas More s Utopia, he is able to successfully criticize many of the political, social, and economic ways of the time. His critique of feudalism and capitalism would eventually come back to haunt him, but would remain etched in stone forever. On July 6, 1535, by demand of King Henry VIII, More was beheaded for treason. His last words stood as his ultimate feeling about royalty in the 15th and 16th centuries, The King s good servant, but God s first. Throughout his life, More spoke his beliefs about feudalism, capitalism, and his ideals of Utopia; More was a thinker, good friend of Erasmus, and although many critics take Utopia as a blueprint for society, in many instances he encourages thought, a critical part of the... Throughout Utopia, Thomas More is able to cause many distractions to the reader while trying to determine what exactly More was trying to convey. Thomas is able to divide a short complex novel into two distinct parts with very different narrative perspectives. The first of these perspectives is Raphael Hythloday, considered to be a radical, `with utopian ideals. The second character is Thomas More himself. Sir Thomas More did travel to Flanders on behalf of King Henry VII; however, Raphael Hythloday is only a piece of More s imagination. Soon after meeting Hythloday, we find out that he is a world traveler and philosopher. We learn of his voyages with Amerigo Vespucci, his voyage to Ceylon, Calcutta, back to Portugal, only observing social practices. At this point we read of More s infatuation with Hythloday s recollection of the island of Utopia. We then see More s criticism of society arise. When More and Giles suggest to Hythloday that he enter the service of some king or other, Raphael responds, How can I do that by acting against all my instincts? At present I live exactly as I please, which is more, I suspect, than the vast majority of court officials can say. Besides, kings have quite enough people competing for their friendship already. First Draft Nothing s Changed is written by Tatamkhulu Afrika, and Caged bird is written by Maya Angelou. Both poems express the reality of division and oppression. The themes of Oppression contrasted with the theme of Freedom are present in both poems. Angelou, a freedom fighter, who has experienced injustice against her based on her color, wrote Caged Bird a poem that utilises contrasting techniques and an extended metaphor to show the importance the significance of herself as well as the rest of the Black community. • 7. Early Detection Of Patient Deterioration INTRODUCTION Vital signs consist of the measurement of patient s blood pressure, temperature, respiratory rate, heart rate and oxygen saturation (Jarvis 2013). They are routinely measured by nurses to gain a baseline assessment of patient s state of health, monitor for any fluctuations, recognise changes in patient s condition and to detect for signs of deterioration (Dougherty and Lister 2008 cited in Phillip et al 2013). vital signs definition and normal parameters?? Up to 80% of adverse events are predicted by physiological abnormalities that occur over hours and sometimes days (Kause et al 2004 cited in pantazopoulos 2012). Early detection of patient deterioration allows for early treatment of infections or hospital acquired pneumonia (Mato 2009, Mato 2010 and Straub 2014). It can also improve the patient s outcome by potentially preventing unplanned intensive care unit (ICU) admission, cardiac arrest and unexpected hospital deaths. (Van Leuvan 2008, Subbe 2003, Hodgetts 2002, Goldhill 2005, Chalmers 2008, Buist 2004). For an abnormality in a patients vital signs to be detected, they need to be consistently and accurately recorded for patient deterioration to be recognise. Past research suggests, however, that this practice is inconsistent (Chua 2013, Pantazopoulos 2011, Jonsson 2011, Osborne 2015, Van Leuvan 2008, Oliver 2010, Cretikos 2007, Parkes 2011, Cooper 2013, Ansell 2014, Hogan 2006, Phillip 2013). • 8. The Japanese Informal Rule Over China Between The First... The high degree of importance of an informal empire to the well being of the formal one is not always as apparent as people initially think. Informal empires can be compared to an iceberg, which is larger under the water level and therefore the actual base without which the whole iceberg would go down (Duus et al., 1989). The case of the Japanese informal rule over Chinabetween the First and Second Sino Japanese Wars is an example of how this type of rule was immensely beneficial to the expansion of the Japanese empire itself. There are three main things that Japan and the colonies of Japan profited from: economically important trade and investment on Chinese soil, having great political influence on the Chinese government in order to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the creation of the informal empire the Japanese started exporting tons of goods for China s vast population and importing raw materials and resources which were valuable for the Japanese Empire and its expansion. They also gained rights over the Manchuria Railways and different cotton mills. Japan benefitted more from the trade in China that the other foreigners there because of the proximity of the two so the shipping costs were lower for Japanese manufacturers than for goods shipped from the West (Duus et al., 1989, p.xiii). At first, maintaining an informal empire was seen as a better alternative than annexing China, in order for Japan to avoid paying the high cost of annexation and maintenance and incurring the wrath of the anti Japanese patriots. Because China and Japan had cultural similarities it was easier for the Chinese to accept the Japanese presence in their country: it may well be that this greater familiarity with Chinese culture gave advantages to Japanese enterprises that the Western firms did not enjoy (Duus et al., 1989, p.9). As the instability had weakened the Chinese government, in 1915 Japan saw that as the perfect opportunity to impose further demands (The Twenty One Demands), even though they did not gain much of it and ruined their relationships with the British and the Americans. We vote for the person who will represent the US in all domestic and international affairs; The President. Currently, we have many troops in Iraq fighting to help them establish a democracy. We are giving the citizens a right to vote, a privilege that many people claim we are lucky to have. In actuality, how democratic is our system overall? What many people don t realize or care to face, is we don t directly vote for our president. In 2000, the majority of us voted for a President who in the end was not determined the winner. What, do I chuse [sic] Samuel Miles to determine for me whether John Adams or Thomas Jefferson shall be President? No! I chuse [sic] him to act, not to think! was the outcry of an angry Federalist as written in the United States Gazette (Peirce, 23). Since then there has been more than 8 cases of faithless votes being cast (Peirce, 23). The problem that has brought the Electoral College to the spotlight in the past few years is the fact that the Electoral College winner does not always reflect the winner of the popular vote. This has already occurred three times in history: Rutherford B. Hays vs. Samuel J. Tilden in 1876, Benjamin Harrison vs. Grover Cleveland in 1888 and most recently, the 2000 election between Gore and Bush (Cornwell). Although half a million more Americans voted for Al Gore than did for George Bush, Bush won the Electoral College 271 to 266, granting him the presidency (Abolish the Electoral College). It doesn t make much sense that the candidate in which received a majority of the votes overall would lose. Another way to understand the Electoral College is to take an in depth look at it s origins. • 12. The Role Of Commercialism In White Noise By Don Delillo Life...Made better This is promising the slogan for Dash In convenience stores. It is a promise that stopping at their store will improve your life. It is a promise that you are not lying to yourself every time you step through those glass doors. In the book White Noise by Don Delillo, readers experience the story of this kind of lie and it s consequences. It follows an introspective college professor and his dealings with his fear of death. It does so against the background of a busy family life, full of colorful characters. White Noise highlights the truths of humanity in a satirical fashion, expertly weaving the American dream into the troubled psyche of the main character, Jack. White Noise reveals that the modern tools of humanity are shallow protections against the reality of life and death. The role of blinding commercialism in people s lives is to provide comfort in its repetitiveness and thoughtlessness. Commercialism does not encourage deep thought by any means, it prays on the quick impulses of the human mind. Murray points this out when talking to Jack about his students and their dislike of television, Look at the wealth of data concealed in the grid, in the bright packaging, the jingles, the slice of life commercials, the products hurtling out of darkness, the coded messages and endless repetitions, like chants, like mantras. • 24. Koyaanisqatsi Life Out Of Balance Analysis In the 1982 film by Godfrey Reggio, Ron Fricke and Philip Glass, Koyaanisqatsi: Life out of Balance, the filmmakers use imagery and music rather than dialogue to convey emotion, time and meaning. The images in the film is primarily time lapse and slow motion footage of natural landscapes in the United States, cities and human machinery/development. It requires skill and experience to create a film with no dialogue that can effectively convey a message. Without words it would also be challenging creating climax and convey time. The filmmakers of Koyaanisqatsi creatively used contrast in images to display time passing and to build or lesson the drama to transition to the next scene. In photography and filmmaking contrast refers to the difference in tones from the lightest tone to the darkest tone. Throughout the film there are many aerial shots of canyons especially in chapter two, Organic. The first canyon image in the movie is an aerial shot of what looks like the Grand Canyon. There is uneven rock formation rows in front of each other. The sunlight is coming from behind the camera, creating deep shadows on the front of the first valley and it creates deep shadows on the valley behind it. This shot moves very slowly across this area and then cuts to several close up shots of parts of the canyon, these images are low contrast they are mostly orange without distinct harsh shadows. After the closeups, there are more aerial shots of the canyon. With each shot the valleys get shallower and the contrast lowers. The shadows are less distinct as the land flattens, the land also has more and greener as it gets flatter, one of the last canyon shot we see before the transition to the next chapter shows the sun rising over completely flat desert like land in the area. For this chapter the filmmakers used regression of contrast to create transition from one scene to the next. The flattening in land with the lowering in contrast also shows time and how what used to be vibrant, with harsh and distinct lines and shadows can fade and erode into flat land with no depth and no contrast. The next chapter is named clouds, they use water to transition from dry harsh land to the flowing clouds in the sky. The film shows rushing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Principle Of Affinity Chromatography The objective of this lab was to learn the principle of affinity chromatography by isolating a carbohydrate binding protein from an extract of jack bean meal. The protein that was used for this lab came from jack bean meal, and it is identified as Concanavalin A, or Con A. This is a lectin proteinthat has the ability to bind with glucose, but it is not a glycoprotein. Furthermore, the monomeric molecular weight of this protein is 25,5001. Concanavalin A also exists as a dimer and a tetramer, and this depends upon the pH of this substance. Finally, Con A requires a transition metal ion such as manganese as well as calcium ions for binding purposes. 1.Begin by inserting a cheesecloth into a syringe and pressing the cheesecloth to the very bottom of the column. 2.Pour 10 ml of the affinity gel into the column. Allow a few minutes for the solution to harden and transform into a gel like consistency. 3.Fill the rest of the column with NaCl, and do so by pouring the solution along the interior side of the column. This allows the gel to become moist. 4.Next, gather 0.5 ml of the protein extract and save this portion in a separate container. This will be used for the preparation of the membrane. 5.Load the remaining protein mix into the column, and this will begin to bind within the column. Zakaria writes, They know that to introduce capitalism into China requires much more than economic changes, so they have allowed significant reforms of the administrative and legal systems as well (81). Although Zakaria argues that China must reform its political system, he says a quick transition to a liberal democracy can lead to chaos, because of the large size of the country and the small size of its middle class. Other reasons, and probably more realistic reasons for China s slow progression towards a democratic state is that the leaders want to clasp to its stronghold on the political system. Can democracy work in China? Zakaria feels it cannot be ignored the progress the Chinese economy has had under its state as a free economy. But the problem continues to be the political progress of this country. China still only has a small middle class, which is detrimental towards a functioning liberal democracy. During the 1980s, there were pushes for political reform from members of the political scene as well as from the public but all that came to a halt during the massacre in Tiananmen Square when soldiers stomped out the early fires of democracy (Zakaria,83). This is unlike watching televisionwhich provides both auditory and visual stimulation. Personally, when listening to Orson Welles War of the Worlds from October 30th 1938, I found myself more easily distracted comparing to when watching a television program or newsstory. • 42. Vassalage And Senmenment In The Song Of Roland, Oliver And... The word, vassalage will have a different meaning to different people and their personalities. This will cause people to argue about how to deal with situations and what course of action is the best option. According to Merriam Webster Dictionary, vassalage is defined as a position of subordination or submission to a political power. While a vassal is someone who is under the protection of someone with authority such as a feudal lord. This person (vassal) will feel obligated to vow their loyalty to that person in power. In The Song of Roland , Oliver and Roland both have a different definition on what makes a great vassal. This paper will discuss both viewpoints on what makes a marvelous vassal , why the poet used Roland and Oliver to balance out vassals, and a brief understanding of vassalage and fief holding. First, a vassal and fief holding is more than just someone of lower status being obedient to their ruler and using their land to pay them. According to Britannica, some vassals were apart of their lord s court as household knights. Although, vassals who did not live in their lord s court were required to have a fief in order to sustain his land and have a solid holding of his service for his lord and/or king. However, if the vassal did something to violate or break his allegiance to his lord then it could result is a felony. This could explain why Roland refused several times to use his horn to call Charlemagne. However, he mentioned several times that calling ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. The Social Shame Of Prostitutes Prostitutes are again compared to dogs because of their societal shame except this time in the New Testament. This occurs in the book of Revelation. Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they will have the right to the tree of life and may enter the city by the gates. Outside are the dogs and sorcerers and fornicators and murderers and idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood. Revelation 22: 14 15. This verse alludes to the fact that prostitutes or fornicators are lowly and wicked since they are compared to dogs. Another noteworthy point is that they are also grouped together with other sinners including: sorcerers, murderers, and idolaters and it is even written that these people love and practices falsehood . These are truly wicked people as they literally love to practice their sins. These wicked people face damnation as they are locked outside of Heaven but this point concerning damnation will be expanded upon later in the essay. This verse is another example of the societal shame concerning prostitutes because of their wickedness. I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral persons not at all meaning the immoral of this world, or the greedy and robbers, or idolaters, since you would then need to go out of the world. But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who bears the name of brother or sister who is sexually immoral or greedy, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or robber. Would you know how to live with people dieing in front of you? It all started in January 1933, it ended after thirteen years on May 8 ,1946, after Hitler committed suicide. In 1935 1939, 121 new laws and ordinances were made, this made the Jews lives very frustrating and difficult. In 1935 the Nuremberg laws were passed, Jews were no longer citizens of Germany. In 1946, a pest control company was tried for selling huge quantities of Zyklon B to the concentration camps. Carbon monoxide was originally used until they got their hands on Zyklon B. They would stuff the people in and screw the doors shut and then release the carbon monoxide. After they found Zyklon B then they would drop the pellets into the vent and then the pellets would release toxic gas. In the gas chambers, the gas would rise from the lower air and then it would rise to the top. When the gas would start to reach the top, people would climb on top of people so that that way they could get the non toxic air at the top. Jewish prisoners were burned in ovens because the Nazis didn t want eyewitnesses. A total of one third of the Jewish people who were alive at that time were killed in the Holocaust. After reading all the research about the Holocaust, I thought to myself I can t imagine being in a concentration camp and having my family there too. • 45. The Importance Of English Education Based on the numerous sources of sound data available, U.S. is currently out educated. On the latest Program for International Student Assessment form 2015, the United States scored an average in reading and science, and below average in math. Results had been unchanged since 2000. U.S. scores are behind global leaders like Finland, South Korea and Canada. It is not a surprise that Shanghai outscored every other country, in all areas tested. As U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Dunkan said at the Foreign Language Summit, 2010: We have to educate our way to a better economy, just as our competitors are doing. We see this as a challenge to get better, and one place we obviously need to get better is in teaching languages. The United States is a long way from being the multi lingual society that so many of our competitors are. My message to you today is that K 12 schools and higher education institutions must be part of the solution to our language gap. A world class education requires students to read and communicate other languages, in addition to English. We need the Department of Education support now, more than ever, in implementing second language instruction starting with early education and continuing engaging students in language, throughout high school and college. In an increasingly complex and interconnected world, it is without a doubt of utmost importance for the citizens of the United States to become fluent in the world languages. • 46. Postmodern Religion Problem Statements: 1)The local church must learn to focus its energy/efforts in the community where is resides. How can we learn to serve and love our neighbors when we do not even know our literal neighbors next door? As Nehemiah told the people in Jerusalem who were rebuilding the walls of the city, you must begin where you are at where you live. 2)We live in a time of great ecological and environmental crisis in which the local church must provide a theological and tangible response. Global warming is not only a threat to animals and land, but to humans as well (all creation). Additionally, this is not only an environmental issue, but also an issue of social justice (race, poverty, etc.). 3)The local church must proclaim a robust understanding ... The good news that God is reconciling all creation through Christ presses upon every aspect of our lives (past, present, future). If we are to be true to the gospel message, we can no longer simply relegate it to a way to get to heaven when we die (or avoid hell) or simply substitute it for a liberal, progressive agenda. In our postmodern era people are wondering whether the gospel message is true, and to discern whether it is true, they look to the Christians to see whether or not the truth of the gospel has any tangible effects on the way we live in and see the world. Unfortunately, far too often, we have failed to incarnate the gospel message and re present the body of Christ to the world. My hope, however, is to offer one tangible way in which we live out the gospel. Not only are we creating a space to share the good news of God s love for all creation (and God s redemptive work in the world), but we are actively engaging with God in the work of new creation by living out our faith. Our message to our neighbors is simple: We believe God loves you and not only you, but all creation. And we do too. We want to join with God in celebrating, cherishing and transforming the world. Green Evangelism is a way of spreading the good news and telling our neighbors that they are loved and cherished by God and their local church. It s a way of serving them and telling them that the church cares about the earth too. Even if they are not interested in saving the earth or going green, the gift of the LED lightbulbs is a way of helping them save money ($150/year savings would be a huge help to our low middle class neighborhood) which is a whole lot better than a pen or a mug with Piney Mountain UMC on it. • 47. Dharma in the Mahabharta Essays Dharma in the Mahabharta The concept of dharma is the most central and core concept of Hindu philosophy, all the other principles and values flow from the beautiful fountain of Dharma (Srinivasan n.d., 1). Consequently, the Hindu scriptures present many examples of its importance in a variety of ways. The two epics Mahabharata and Ramayana are particularly interesting in their presentation of dharma. Dharma is Sanskrit word with many different connotations that are mostly of ethical nature. Thus far, there has not been a parallel word found for it in English or any language that truly signifies the essence of it. It comes from the root word, dhr, which literally means to uphold, sustain, and maintain a thing in its being. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The concept of dharma is very broad and is very difficult to grasp because there is no clear cut definition of dharma that captures the essence of it. However, one can try to see how the works like the Mahabharata approach the concept. The epic mainly deals with the loss and reestablishment of dharma on Earth. For whensoever Dharma declines and Adharma uprises, the Bhagavan (god) creates himself to guard the good and to destroy the wicked; to establish the Dharma firmly, he comes into being again and again (Sukthankar 1998, 79). In the Mahabharata, the story goes that Earth burdened by the tyranny of demonic kings then ruling requests Visnu to relieve her burden; and Visnu decides to do so by, along with other heavenly beings: gods, rsis, gandharvas, kinnaras and so on, taking birth among the Yadavas. A war is fought with purpose of ending the tyranny of the demonic kings and restoring dharma on decline due to the tyranny, also, in turn relieving Earth s burden. However, all this does not take place with such simplicity. The Mahabharata War, as one remembers, was fought between cousins, the Kauravas and the Pandavas. Throughout history many wars between cousins have taken place, then what makes the Mahabharata War so special to gain such recognition. As it turns out, what gives this trivial tale of petty ... The tragedy of Macbeth, darker and more cynical (BBC Higher Bitesize English Background: Revision 1), written during the Jacobean period, reflected the insecurities of the time for the many prosecutions made by James. The idea of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth s conspiracy is said to be inspired from the Gunpowder Plot when Guy Fawkes and his men tried to blow up James and his parliament in 1605 (BBC Higher Bitesize English Background: Revision 2). This plot resulted in strict penalties on Roman Catholics and therefore created a feeling of terror among the population. It is also said that Shakespeare included Banquo in Macbeth in honor of the Stuarts: Banquo is of a political nature. It was believed at the time Macbeth was written that King James was Banquo s direct descendant, and this presumption might have influenced Shakespeare s characterization of Banquo as an innocent victim rather than an assassin. Such a vital position in the user s network requires that the routers operate securely. Unfortunately, recent research indicate that these devices have various security issues which expose them to malware attacks. To address the growing concerns about the security of home routers, it is important to perform dynamic analysis on home routers, even without accessing the actual hardware. This paper looks at the importance of home router security, the need for dedicated analysis tools through emulation and the process involved in emulating and profiling an ARM architecture based home router. We emulate an ARM router and test the behaviour of this router via an emulated client. This has been done by using QEMU, an emulation tool, to virtualize the router. Upon development of the emulated ARM router and client, we found the task more difficult than previously thought due to a bug with the pcnet network interface card in qemu. We also performed analysis on the system calls generated when traffic was passed through the MIPSLE architecture based router and arrived at the conclusion that our environment is capable of detecting vulnerabilities in the security when the router is exposed to malware. Communication theory focuses on examining the process of transmitting information from the sender to the receiver. Furthermore, communication theory analyzed the various means for transfer of information from one medium to the other. As people across the globe have been working with several communication theories, these theories provide an abstract understanding of the process of communication. A theoretical explanation of communication processes is usually provided when professionals across various fields talk about their communication strategies, types, and effectiveness (Dainton, 2004). In the healthcare sector, primary health care team members and other caregivers or service providers are usually required to communicate effectively with one another in order to enhance the quality of service.
