d. Bring the stock up to your shoulder and then up to your cheek.
Your answer: b
Correct answer: c
Explanation: When you bring the shotgun to your shoulder, the stock should be brought to your
cheek first and then back to your shoulder. A common error is lowering the head and cheek to the
stock, instead of bringing the stock all the way up to the cheek. When done properly, with your head
naturally erect, the gun butt always should come to the same spot on your shoulder.

Cat Feces Essay
Cat feces is categorized as a teratogen because it is directly linked to an infection called
Toxoplasma gondii, or toxoplasmosis. Toxoplasmosis is caused by a parasite that replicates in the
host s intestines and then shed into the feces. Felines, including domesticated cats, are hosts for
toxoplasmosis (Many Koren, 2006). While most mammals and birds are also hosts for toxoplasma
gondii, felines are the only animals that pass the infection through their feces (Elmore et al., 2010).
Thus, while humans can become infected with toxoplasmosis in numerous ways, one potential
method is through the ingestion of catfeces. Regarding pregnancy, this infection can have
devastating effects on a fetus, particularly in the early stages of pregnancy (Dunn et al., 1999).
As mentioned ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Per the CDC, a pregnant woman does not have to get rid of her cat to prevent infection
(Toxoplasmosis Frequently Asked Questions FAQs, 2013). However, it is necessary to take
precautions to minimize the risk of exposure and potential infection. Safety precautions include
keeping a clean litter box by changing it daily. More importantly, if pregnant, it is best to avoid
cleaning the litter box at all. If no one else is available to do so, the CDC recommends wearing
disposable gloves and proper hand washing immediately after. Another important step is to
prevent cats from becoming infected by keeping them indoors; avoiding stray cats, kittens, and
new cats; and not feeding pet cats raw or undercooked meat. Additionally, if a cat is infected with
toxoplasmosis, it can only spread the infection for a few weeks after being infected by the
parasite, after which the shedding into the feces will subside on its own. Therefore, it is not
necessary to have a cat tested or treated for toxoplasmosis (Toxoplasmosis Frequently Asked

Mens Rea Essay
n criminal law, the mens rea refers to the defendant s state of mind at the time of their crime and
there are several levels reflecting the need to have a particular mens rea for the offence committed.
For example, in murder or a S:18 offence in the Offences Against the Person Act 1861, the mens rea
present must be that of specific intent, which is where the defendant desired that particular outcome
of their actions. However, it was held in R v Cunningham 1982, that the intention to cause serious
harm was enough to satisfy the mens rea for murder. This shows that, where murder cases are
concerned, that it is relatively easy to prove the required mens rea and in doing so the concept of
fault is often satisfied. This is once again shown in oblique... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

On the original hearing, Ahluwalia was convicted of murder as the law on provocation required
the loss of self control to be immediate, not premeditated and this may have been the case as the
defendant waited for her husband to sleep before murdering him. However, the law has since
developed and provocation now recognises battered woman s syndrome and the slow burn
effect it may cause. If this is the case, then surely a defendant in such a situation cannot face the
full wrath of fault when much of what surrounded the killing was not out of their choice. Even
though the actus reus and mens rea in this case, and also similar cases of R v Duffy 1949 and R
v Thornton 1992, were present, the law s introduction of a Domestic Violence Bill is perhaps
confirmation that the concept of fault can only be appropriately applied when the full
circumstances are looked at. This signifies the importance of defences, as it is here that the law
can decide whether or not a person is to blame for their actions and to what extent it was their fault
that the actus reus and mens rea were

How Is Holden Caulfield A Hero
Don t ever tell anybody anything. If you do, you start missing everybody (Salinger 214). Much of
the story Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger consists of Holden Caulfield s social interactions with
others and his adventure home after being expelled from what seems like just another school
amongst many in his history. It goes without saying that JD Salinger has made a classic hit novel
through the integration of an eccentric main character and an unconventional plot. Although the
plot is abnormal, the oddity translates into something noteworthy as the book still retains the
noteworthy qualities of any other award winning book.
The exposition of Catcher in the Rye depicts troubled youth Holden Caulfield on his last day
attending Pencey Prep School forever as he was expelled just before winter break due to his low
grades in most of his classes. Holden spends his last day at Pencey in hopes of making some fond
memories. However, he ends up receiving an interminable speech about applying himself from his
history teacher Dr. Spencer. On top of this, Holden also gets into a... Show more content on

Dissociative Identity Disorder and Communication Essay
In this critical reflection paper, I will aim to discuss ways in which those diagnosed with
Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) attempt to communicate with their co personalities, also how
those with DID sort through the multi personality layers within themselves to aim for a sense of
normality, calmness and co existence.
Communication is an important part of those diagnosed with Dissociative Identity Disorders. DID
can commonly be described as a severe condition in which two or more distinct identities, or
personality states, are present in and alternately take control of an individual, John Wiley (2012).
The process involved in breaking down the layers of personality begins with looking at the Russian

outlines the system of a Dissociative Identity Disorder by saying that, people can influence the way

Assagioli (1984), developed the theoretical base of psychosynthesis to assist those with DID to
break down the barriers of dissociative symptoms. Psychosynthesis is described as being closely
related to Existential therapy a kind of psychotherapy that emphasizes the development of a sense
of self direction through choice, awareness, and acceptance of individual responsibility, Schneider.
K Rollo. M, (2012).
Assagioli (1984), explains that Psychosynthesis aims to promote growth and to integrate this

Two Versions of To Build a Fire by Jack London
The story To Build a Fire written by Jack London has two nearly identical versions published in
1902 and 1908 respectively. The latter is better known and more thought provoking because of
the protagonist s death. To begin with, the journey takes place on a cold winter day in Klondike,
consists of a man and his dog. The man is ignorant of the extreme coldness and feels confident
about travelling alone at fifty degrees below zero. However, he breaks through a thin skin of ice
unexpectedly and wets himself halfway to the knees. In order to dry his feet, the man builds a
fire, only to have it extinguished by a pile of snow unloaded from a tree. He tries to set up another
fire, yet all attempts has failed. The man panics and strives to unfreeze his body by running. Not
surprisingly, his efforts are useless, and the man dies of hypothermiaat last. The author effectively
supports the central conflict of man versus nature and gives hints about the man s death as
resolution by using appropriate title, descriptive setting, and a large amount of foreshadowing.
First of all, the title is well chosen, for it gives the readers an overview of the story and supports
the plot effectively. Detailed descriptions of how to set up a fire and the man s continuous
attempts to do so reflect that the story evolves around the phrase to build a fire . Throughout his
journey, if the man succeeds in making a fire, it brings warmth, hope, and life; on the other hand, if
he fails, it means coldness

The purpose of this investigation is to examine the extent to which the Chinese Cultural Revolution
impacted China s economy from 1966 to 1970. The main body of the investigation will focus on
the persecution and violence towards high level party officials and capitalists by the Red Guards
and the Destroy the Four Olds campaign. The Destroy the Four Olds campaign was significant
because it inhibited industrial and agricultural innovation and production of an entire country for
a decade as it placed the country s economy and industry into the hands of inexperienced
revolutionaries. Two sources that will be used will be China: A New History and Modern China:
The Fall and Rise of a Great Power, 1850 to the Present, and they will be evaluated in regards to
their purpose, value, and limitations. An analysis of these sources and the evidence will be used to
form a conclusion as to how and to what extent the revolution impacted the Chinese economy.

Jungle Stereotypes In Little Black Sambo, Betty Boop,
Surprisingly, I personally thought the idea of observing these cartoons with a third eye was
highly effective. Usually, people tend to look past exactly what the cartoons are portraying. I
noticed throughout all of the cartoons they were humanizing racism. I saw a diversity in cultures
from all of the cartoons. Frequently, I observed how all the cultures were represented and the way
they were dressed. Additionally, one thing that stood out from the rest was physical appearance.
Between the two cartoons Little Black Sambo, Betty Boop, All this Rabbit Stew, and Jungle Jitters
the African Americans all had the same physical features such as facial appearance. The setting of
Little Black Sambo and Jungle Jitters were very similar plus they both had that jungle stereotype.
Jungle Jitters initially illustrated how African Americans are jungle eating people. Social justice
was highly embellished in Jungle Jitters explaining the lifestyle of all social classes. Overall, I
noticed the variety of relationships all the cartoons were depicting from what the class learned

of the report, and should summarize the content of the full report without adding new information.
The Executive Summary should ideally be no more than three to four pages. Evaluation Purpose
and Evaluation Questions This should set out the overarching purpose of the evaluation, and how
the findings are expected to be used to inform decisions. This section also describes the Evaluation
Questions (which should be limited to just a few key questions). It can also identify key audiences
for the evaluation. Project Background Enough information should be provided to give sufficient
context. However in the Executive Summary this section can receive less emphasis than it might in
the overall report so that more attention can be given to the evaluation purpose, design, limitations,
and findings. In the main report it should describe the problem being addressed by the project, and
the project logic for why it will lead to better outcomes. This could include a logical framework for
the project if one exists, and the development hypothesis, or causal logic, of the project or program
of which the project is a part. Evaluation questions, design, methods and limitations This section

A Comparison of Two Murderers
In the Edgar Allan Poe stories The Cask of Amontillado and The Tell Tale Heart the most prominent
and important themes that are used are death, logic, and irony. The characters of the narrator and
Montresor in these stories are both coldblooded murders that kill for selfish, and inane reasons who
firmly believe that their actions are justified even though their rationalizations only make sense in
their own minds. They both try to convince their audience that they are completely sane by giving
their explanations about why they did what they did as well as their motives for killing their
victims. In admitting how they murdered victims, who appear to be innocent to everyone besides
them, they only succeed in proving their insanity. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He knows that logically the only way lure Fortunado into the catacombs successfully is to make
him feel safe and then betray him at the last moment. When he lures Fortunado into the
catacombs he gives him many opportunities to get out of it but he does not suspect Montresor of
anything so he continues to trust him. There is also a considerable amount of irony in both of
the stories. The best example is when they try to convince the audience that they are completely
sane and that their actions are justified. The narrator tirelessly attempts to convince whoever he
is telling his story to that he is perfectly sane while recounting how he viciously murdered an old
man he claimed to love, chopped up his body, and hid him in the floorboards all because he didn
t like his vulture eye. While he believes that he is going to persuade his audience that he was in
his right mind, all he is doing his backing up the assumption that he is mentally ill and is in no
way sane. Montresor does not try as hard to make his listeners believe in his sanity. His victim,
Fortunado, as a character is also a good example of irony. His name, which translates to lucky ,
proves to be extremely ironic when he is the one that ends up being killed. He is given many hints
by Montresor as to what will happen to him as well as many opportunities to turn back but his ego
and competitiveness with his rival Luchresi ends up sealing his fate. He says in

Ancient Egypt Religion Essay
When we think of ancient civilizations the first one that normally stands out is Ancient Egypt.
The Egyptians were one of the very few that arose to civilization independently, and accomplished
many impressive things along the way. The Egyptian civilization stretched along the lower
reaches of the Nile River in Northeastern Africa. Religion was at the core of everything that the
Egyptians were and they stood firm for what they believed in. Their religion was based on
polytheism, which was the belief of many gods. The Egyptians had 2000 or more gods or goddess
and each community would worship their own deities (Ancient Egyptian Religion). As a result of
their beliefs, the Pharaoh was seen as the most powerful person in ancient Egyptand oversaw all
state religious activity. What made the Pharaoh so special was that the people recognized that
he was human, and he was subject to human weakness, but they still viewed him as a divine
power of kingship (Religion). The Egyptians believe that the pharaoh was half human and half
god, and would work as an intermediary between the Egyptian people and the gods (Religion).
The Ancient Egyptians also believed that the pharaoh was the sun god, god Horus. It was
believed that when the pharaoh died he would be reunited with the sun, and a new sun god would
rule on Earth (Barrow, Mandy). Death and the afterlife played almost as an important role in
Ancient Egypt as religion. Death was not seen as a final stage of life, but as a

Going to school and getting an education and following through will lead to a life of success.
Yes, it is a proven fact that blacks who live out of the ghetto live a better life than those who live
in it; all children who grow up in poverty do not always end up poor. This is true because there
are many men and women who have survived poverty and achieved success, such as Ophra
Winfrey. The Negro Family: The Case for National Action report by Daniel Moynihan persuades
readers to think that blacks are living in poverty are all not able to achieve a good life. He says
that if black men were to all have jobs then black families would stay out of poverty. This is false
because a family s income is not determined by just the man. A black woman can have a higher
paying job and support the family financially. The report points that single parent women are not
able to raise children in the ghetto because of the environment and statistics of the past. Single,
black mothers and fathers can raise their child to be intelligent and successful without being in a

Person Vs Utilitarianism
When being an engineer problems present themself on a daily basis. Some are math problems
which are to be expected, but some are ethical problems that can be even more difficult to solve.
Fortunately for us we have the utilitarianism and respect for persons model which in most cases can
either help or completely solve the ethical dilemma at hand.
The two most renowned ethics models for engineers, are the utilitarianism and respect for persons
methods. These two methods have some similarities, but also have some distinct differences and
flaws with how they operate from a case to case basis. First, I would like to discuss what the
utilitarianism approach is. Utilitarianism favors in the overall good of each decision using a cost

But, with a little compromising from both sides I believe a middle way solution can be formed.
The Jones family s biggest concern is with maintaining their house which has been pass down
from generation to generation. This time we use engineers to create the most efficient road
possible without going directly through the house. Now, this still seems like the Jones family is
getting the short end of the deal. But, if we are able to construct a few miles away from the
house and still save at least 10 minutes this could still help both situations. First and foremost
having drivers traveling less would be a plus for the environment. Also, the convenience of
spending less time on the roads would be great for drivers. The compromise from the utilitarian
perspective would be the extra 5 10 minutes on the road versus saving the full 20 minutes between
the two cities. For the Jones family keeping the house and most of their property is a much better
alternative to having the house condemned. Also in this scenario the family would get some money
from the engineers buying some of the land. The major compromise for the Jones family would be
giving up some of their property that they ve had for generations. In this realistic alternative both
sides ultimately get what they want without either side suffering

THE STUDY OF HOSTAGE DRAMA IN QUIRINO GRANDSTAND
CHAPTER1
INTRODUCTION
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
The aim of the dissertation is to research the diplomatic negotiating style of the Filipino law
enforcement by analyzing the events in its diplomatic history, namely the bilateral negotiations
with the Philippines during august 23, 2010.
For the past few days since the embarrassing hostage crisis that has brought international shame
again to our country, it has been reflecting on how we as a Filipino people can collectively move
forward from this incident. In cyberspace, many people continue to express anger, rage,
disappointment, frustration and sadness about how our government particularly the Philippine

Believe that majority of our police force are good and well meaning Filipino public servants who
went into the service to help our country. If the political leaders for the past 5 years only used our
funds properly instead of putting it in their own pockets then that would have been able to develop
an elite police force that would be able to handle any type of crisis situation in a very effective
manner. Making no excuses for the Aquino administration because like said, they should ve been in
full control the moment the hostage crisis started but in reality they are also inheriting a poorly
trained and equipped PNP from the previous administration. Don t forget that Aquino has been in
power for barely two months while Robredo was just appointed as DILG chief in the middle of
July. It is with this reason that really appalled by the way two very staunch supporters of former
President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, Senator Miguel Zubiri and Albay s Rep. Edcel Lagman, are
now trying their darndest best to play hero and pin all the blame on Aquino and Robredo. If they are
really serious that they want to help our country and improve our image in the international
community, then perhaps they can begin by probing and supporting an investigation on all the
anomalies and corruption that happened during their boss term.
Now, what can do to finally move forward? The greater challenge for us Filipinos is to understand

It Is Our Humanity That Binds Us Inextricably
It is our humanity that binds us inextricably. We are all created in God s image, and as such
deserve respect, understanding and a sense of belonging. As Dick Staub so adequately explains
Wholly unlike God we are nevertheless God s image bearers. Wholly unlike God, we are like God
in that we are free beings. Knowing that true loveis chosen, not imposed, Godgave humans the gift
of freedom freedom to choose either to glorify God, as creatures who honor their creator, or to
usurp God s rightful place, choosing to glorify ourselves the created ones.
The years have shown me that often people walk past the envisioned spiritual cord hanging in
their face. If noticed and pulled it is used it as a veil instead, or a blind fold. The misunderstood
ropes are tied in knots and years can be spent endeavoring to untangle them. Bondage instead of
freedom prevails.
Sometimes God s precious invitation is then discounted and deemed to be a useless and
unnecessary part of worldly existence.
Some cry, faith doesn t work ; God let them down or religious people are all hypocrites . They have
experienced grief and disappointment, and from that point on vehemently maintain that miracles
are non existent and faith is a waste of time.
Nonetheless our Heavenly Father, being loving and patient still keeps extending the invitation to us
to grasp tightly and follow Him. He knows that we struggle with the seemingly difficult, the unseen
and the unknown. He is compelling, patient,

How Does Watching Tv Corrupts The Mind
When people generally think of television, most may assume it rots the mind. Freelance writer
Rachel Krantz not only believes that TV is not useful for your mind, it may kill you, decrease your
chances of having kids, ruin the ones you do have, and possibly turn you violent. Could any of this
have happened to me as I was binge watching The Simpsons from seasons one to eight during the
summer? I initially thoughtthat this show was prone to dumb me down as I did this, but instead it
enlightened me through its clever writing. Even with gags as dumb as an old man hurt by a
football thrown to his groin, I felt as if no other show was as thoughtful and full of heart as The
Simpsons. Despite that Krantz s claims are backed by academic studies and research on television, it
should be the least concern for our minds. Television does not rot our minds; it intellectually
challenges and aptly adjusts our minds depending on how we use it.
The further time a kid spends watching television, the larger their brains grow. That seems great,
although apparently this is considered unhealthy for them. A recent Japanese study reveals that
as kids between ages 5 through 18 spend, on average, two hours of watching TV per day, certain
areas of their brains were growing. The rise in brain volume of these kids was linked to a fall in
their verbal IQ. However, the data in this study was not clear if TV watching caused this (Sanders).
While this study needs further elaboration and should be

Ghost In The Woman Warrior By Maxine Hong Kingston
A ghost is a disembodied soul, according to the definition found within Merriam Webster s
dictionary. However, in the novel The Woman Warrior by Maxine Hong Kingston, the term
ghost adopts a meaning that holds a much greater depth. All throughout the text, the word ghost
reoccurs in a metaphorical sense that binds together the overlying theme of culture disconnect
between the generations of the Chinese Americans. Kingston equips figurative usage of ghosts
in order to establish a setting in which there is an evident cultural gap between those described
as ghosts, and those who live and breathe in a traditional Chinese sense. At the very start of the
novel, Kingston introduces ghost in a scene where villagers are raiding the family home of the
No Name Woman, exclaiming Pig. Ghost. Pig, as they do so, (5). By declaring that the aunt
who committed an unspeakable crime to be a ghost allows readers to grasp an initial sense of
what ghost truly means. A ghost is an outcast, one who does not abide by the values deemed just
by the majority. Further developing this idea, the nameless aunt s own family curses her by
saying, Ghost! Dead ghost! Ghost! You ve never been born, (14). Both her village and her very
own family, the folks whom she holds dearest to her heart, are able to completely deny her
existence and shun her from their realities. Within the first chapter of the novel, the idea of a ghost
is introduced as a figure that has a significant distance from the

Africa and indeed in Palestine. However more modern times have seen them as a nomadic people,
living in various countries but never truly finding a land to call there own. In the late 19th and early
20th century an idea began to gain solidarity and momentum, that of Zionism. The idea of Zionism,
to create a Jewish state, is arguably one of modern society s most polarizing and influential
movements. Zionism has influenced political, religious, and social groups in a variety of ways that
culminated in the creation of a Jewish state in Palestine.(Cohen, week 10) The term Zionism, as it
is understood today, began to be used significantly by the political activist Herzl. Herzl was driven
to action following the event of the infamous anti Semitic Dreyfus affair in which a Jewish/French
officer was wrongly accused of spying for Germany. This led Herzl to believe that anywhere the
Jews went they would be unfairly persecuted. Herzl s solution, create an independent Jewish
state. To realize his goal Herzl began to look to political, religious, and social groups to garner
support for his cause. (Cohen, Week 10) The global political landscape is fickle and has a habit
of mutating and evolving in strange ways. The view of Zionist movement was hardly unaffected
by these rapid changes in political mindset and agenda. Pre World War 1 era saw a primary anti

Will Iran Destroy The World If Not Kept
Will Iran destroy the world if not kept in check?
Throughout the past century many nations have started to strive for nuclear weapons this arms
race has become an increasingly hostile and dangerous situation to be in. This all started around
70 years ago with the dropping of the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima by the United States of
America. From then on it has been a race for who could get the newest and best technology being
nuclear weapons. Eventually some of the top countries realized what this arms race could do and
have started to decrease their stockpiles. But there is a new threat of an arms race in the Middle
East which could prove catastrophic for the rest of the world if not kept under control by the U.S.
and other G5 nations. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This could lead to Iran potentially sharing its nuclear technology with extremist groups who hate
the United States and other Western nations. While Iranian missiles can not yet reach America,
Iran having a nuclear weapons capability can potentially directly threaten the United States and its
inhabitants. Iran has publicly stated it may launch a space launch vehicle by 2015 that could be
capable of intercontinental ballistic missile ranges if configured as a ballistic missile. (The
Department of Defence, 2014). On top of this threat many officials are also concerned about the
possibility of a nuclear weapon arriving in a cargo container or being launched from a boats at a
major US port. A federally mandated commission to study electromagnetic pulse attacks has
stated vast damage that could be brought by a single missile with a nuclear warhead if launched
from a ship off the US coast and detonated a couple of hundred miles in the air above America.
(Commission to Assess the Threat to the United States from Electromagnetic (EMP) Attack,
2004). Now to stray from the threats facing the United States there are the issues that nuclear
armed Iran poses to America s closest allies in the Middle East. First, our largest ally in the region,
being Israel, is most at risk because of Iranian hatred for them and the belief that Israel should be
wiped of the map Former President of Iran Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. (Washington Post, 2011). Than

Research Paper On Lee Bektash
By Lelet Lumani Did you know, the world s fastest man lives in St Albans, and no, it isn t Usain

Mopar Racing (who supply all the parts). He s the number one drag car racer in Australia, as
well as holding the world record for the quickest time with a small block powered car and
naturally aspirated car for the quarter mile 6.87 seconds, clocked at a speed of 200.14mph. I
recently spoke to Lee about a few things; his childhood, and the reasons he became such a huge
car fan. He was born in Kyabram and moved to Melbourne when he was 5 years old, where he
was raised in St Albans. As cousins we naturally met as children, and for as long as I can

Republican Party Research Paper
As many American Liberals have noticed the Democratic Party, supposedly their party, has been
losing big electorally. The presidency, the majority of state governorships, both houses of
congress and the majority of state assemblies have been lost by the Democrats to the Republican
Party. This has left many Democratic citizens wondering, what happened? Why did their party
suddenly fall from favor with the voting public? Though I do not hold myself out as having a
definitive answer I do have a hunch as to why the Democrats have been losing big at the polls.
And fair warning, though I will try to keep this as neutral as possible political biases do have a

The Working Poor Deserve Higher Pay and More Recognition
28 percent of American workers in 2011 earned poverty level wages. That is, three years ago
more than one in four workers in our country were not able to stave off poverty despite their active
employment, according to the Economic Policy Institute, and that number has only increased since
then. In absolute terms, this translates to millions of employed Americans still falling below the
US Census s poverty level, according to Legal Director of the Center for Constitutional Rights, Bill

In her book, Nickel and Dimed: On Not Getting By in America, acclaimed journalist and social
activist Barbara Ehrenreich comments on the negative perceptions of the working class among
educated elites. She feels that the wealthier classes are out of touch with workers, and have even
grown to fear and distrust them. In recounting her experiences going from an acclaimed journalist
to minimum wage laborer, Ehrenreich revealed many of the prejudices that affluent Americans
demonstrate towards the working classes. While working as a maid, she senses a level of
disdain from the upper class that she never felt as an educated professional. She rails against the
intrusive drug and personality tests that her employers at Walmart demand, feeling that they are
sparked by a sense of mistrust of the poor from the management of the company [Ehrenreich

class society has come to think of the working class as a group of people who are idle, negligent,
and untrustworthy, undeserving of social status and respect. However, the perception of the
American low wage worker as lazy and slothful is grossly inaccurate. Low wage workers usually
labor long hours at physically demanding jobs, for little pay. Ehrenreich commented that many of

Competitive Advantage Through Value Chain And Vertical...
We are living in a world, where technology keeps changing on day to day basis. In this ever
changing world of technology, the question is how are some companies doing better than the
others and what are they doing to maintain competitive advantage? Rise of technology has given
birth to competition by giving companies new ways to perform at higher levels and this has also
led to the ways companies are producing their products and services. Technology has affected
several sections of an organization by having an impact on business communications, company s
HR practices, and organizational changes. Therefore, in order to gain and maintain competitive
advantage, a company must do one of the two; either produce goods/services at a lower cost or
produce innovative products in a way that leads to differentiation and a premium price.
Section 1: Competitive Advantage through Value Chain and Vertical Integration
Companies are using value chain approach to better understand which key areas will give them the
greatest edge over its competitors. They are focusing on each division, distribution centers, pricing,
product innovation, selling techniques, and value chain formations.
Value chain is an important notion that highlights the role of information technology in the
operations of a company. A Value Chain is the whole series of activities that create and build value

United States Of The African American Male Students Essay
Upon the premise of further exploration, Mari Ann Roberts found a definition of what is meant to
care for underachieving African American male students. Roberts surveyed eight African American
teachers to attain their point of view of what it meant to care for their students which included
informing them about how to survive in the racismof the United States of America that they will
and are exposed to (Roberts 456). The discussion of political clarity was addressed by several
teachers to help students understand the importance of education and emphasized that they
believed, for Black people, academic achievement would eventually equal equality (Roberts 458).
It should be noted the research identified teachers believed: informing the students about socio
political/colour talk matters helped them to understand as African Americans you have to work
harder to make it in the U.S (Roberts 458). Finally, this study points out students needed to be
pushed to work harder and encouraged to change their demeanor to not give Caucasians reason to
hurt them in any fashion as far as advancing academically (Roberts 458). Several participants

Defining Personal Responsibility Essay
Defining Personal Responsibility and Obligations to Oneself
Angelica McElhone
University of Phoenix
Abstract
Personal responsibility is the choices and obligations we make in life. Everyone is responsible for
their own actions no one else. We all must have good character, moral values and a healthy lifestyle
in order to accept personal responsibility. Once we use our good character and moral values to help
us know what is right and wrong, it is up to us to be responsible and make the right decisions.
Also promoting a healthy life style show you are responsible mentally, physically and emotionally.

If we choose to be late instead of punctual, we are not accepting our personal responsibility that we
must be punctual so we suffer from the consequences.
Moral values are the values of good and evil, which help us make the right and wrong choices in
life. We develop these moral values throughout our life time and it is our personal responsibility
to use them when making choices or obligations. Having moral values is important in personal
responsibility because the moral values you live by will help you determine what s right and
what s wrong. Once we ve determined what s right or wrong we use those values to help make
sure we are doing the right thing which is the responsible way to do it.
Finally, having a healthy life style is the most important key to personal responsibility. Everyone
is responsible for how they live their lives but it is important to make sure you are mentally,
emotionally and physically stable in order to live a good life. We as people like to blame everyone
else for our problems but the only real person to blame are ourselves. We ourselves are
personally responsible for the way we live are lives no one else. If you don t live a healthy
lifestyle it is your responsibility to change that or accept the burdens that come with not living a
healthy life style.
When you accept responsibility, you admit you are the one responsible for the choices made in
your life. We, no other person or thing,

High Quality Data Quality Analysis
3.1 Introduction
High quality data facilitate a precise analysis and the resulting statistics. Hence, high quality data
assist the organization to increase its business value. This chapter demonstrates the concept of data
quality, the effects of inaccurate data, and the factors that cause low quality data.
3.2 Data Quality
The executive and the top management in organizations seek comprehensive reports and
dashboards to enable them to understand on going processes and facilitate the decision making
that improves their business. However, the decision making process may be influenced by various
factors. Data quality is a critical factor because when the quality of the data is inferior, poor
decisions could be made [39]. In addition, data ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hence, several parties share the responsibility for the quality of data. In addition, J. E. Olson (2003)
observed that the poor data quality resulted from the rapid growth of information system technology
and the prompt evolution in system implementation and frequent changes that complicate and
hamper the quality control process [44]. According to C. Boulton (2016), 57.5% of poor data are
caused by users, followed by 47% caused by data migration and integration, which usually lead to
gaps or duplicate information, and 43.5% caused by changes to source systems (Figure 5) [45].
Figure 5: Causes of poor data quality [45]
Jack E. Olson (2003) defined data quality as data that are linked to their fit for use. In other words,
high data quality is obtained when the data fulfill the requirements and the criteria of its intended
usage. In contrast, poor quality results when the data do not fulfil their requirements [44].
3.3 Dimensions of Data Quality
In previous research, data quality was divided into two main categories: intrinsic and contextual. In
the intrinsic category, value resides within the data, which refers to objective attributes. In the
contextual category, the attributes of the data mainly depend on the context in which the data are
present, used, as well as the situation or problem. Data in the contextual category include the
dimensions of relevance and believability [39],

The Performance Of Employees Are Doing Good Work
efforts show that employees are doing good work, the supervisor should praise their performance.
Employees who are confident and satisfied are less likely to allow defects in goods or services. b)
Standard Setting and Enforcement If employees and others are to support the quality control effort,
they must know exactly what is expected of them. This calls for qualitystandards. In many cases,
the supervisor is responsible for setting quality standards as well as for communicating and
enforcing them. These standards should have the characteristics of effective objectives: They
should be written, measurable, clear, specific, and challenging but achievable. Furthermore, those
standards should reflect what is important to the client. c) Using Control Chart Control chart is the
most populated quality tool. The main reasons of their popularity are [2]: i. A proven technique for
improving productivity. ii. Effective in defect prevention. iii. Prevent unnecessary process

Red Flour Beetles Lab
INTRODUCTION In this lab, the class discovered the effects of different substrates and stimuli
on red flour beetles. Red flour beetles eat flour and other grains and the female beetle deposits her
eggs on flour, cereal, dry pet food, or other similar products. The larvae hatch and then begin to eat
the material around them. In the article Patch exploitation by Tribolium castaneum: Movement
patterns, distribution, and oviposition , it says that most of the activity from red flour beetles is
spent in food sources (Campbell and Hagstrum). There are many factors that affect the red flour
beetles ability to survive or reproduce, like temperature, food source, stress, and genetics (Biology

Essay on Death Penalty Debate
Why is the death penalty still allowed throughout much of the U.S.? The process of prosecuting and

(NAKELL, 1978) The death penalty is much more expensive than life imprisonment without parole.
Capital trails are longer and more expensive at every step than other murder trials. Capital cases
tend to last several years and can consist of pretrial motions, expert witness investigations, jury
selection, and the necessity for two trials; one on guilt and the other on sentencing. Once an
individual is sentenced to death, the case automatically gets appealed to the state, then to the Court
of Appeals and finally to the Supreme Court. Guilty pleas in capital punishment cases are almost
unheard of, plus many of these trials result in life sentences anyway, so the state in which the
trial is held ends up paying for the costs of the capital case. The extreme costs of capital
punishment are actually making America less safe because financial and legal resources are being
diverted from effective crime fighting. When a prosecutor decides to pursue a capital case they go
to extensive and costly means, this may include the use of forensics, psychology, technology, and
witnesses. The states (tax payers) also suffer; security precautions imposed by the death sentence
must be paid. In the end the offender may die in prison, so there is no reliable data that the death

The Task Of The Translator By Walter Benjamin
Walter Benjamin s essay, The Task of the Translator, is illuminating in the way in which it shatters
any preconceived ideas that may view the act of translation as diminishing the value of the original.
Benjamin has high regard for translation, placing it in the realm of art as a distinct form. He argues
that art is not about the audience or the receiver that is, it is not primarily about communication.
The purpose of art is not to instil a specific belief, impart information or to entertain certain
sentiments in the reader thus, appreciation does not reside in generating a moral by interpreting its
content. As an art form, translationfor Benjamin is not about propagating ideas or beliefs but is
about embarking on the task of attaining pure... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Likewise, translation cannot be considered to interact with the reader, seeking to communicate the
meaning of the original text as the content is not essential in our appreciation of the text. His
question assumes the original and the translation as distinct categories, both of which, for him, are
works of art. Apart from carrying messages and prolonging the value of texts, what is unique to
translation is its potential to express the central reciprocal relationship between languages (72), its
kinship to another language and its potential to bring out the pure language where the mutually
exclusive elements among languages can mingle and supplement one another (74) and where
complementary intentions between two languages can be communicated. Therefore, the translator
should not be restrained by the burden of relaying what the original means. Benjamin claims that
languages are not strangers to one another, but are, a priori and apart from all historical
relationships, interrelated in what they want to express (72). The affinity between languages can
best be brought out by an accurate transmission of the form and meaning of the original

Theme Of Death In The Veldt
The Suspenseful Death in The Veldt
This suspense story The Veldt written by Ray Bradbury, is about the overuse of technology. In this
writing, the characters; Lydia and George have given their children all they could ask for but what
happens at the end would be a parents worst nightmare. As the story comes to an end Peter and
Wendy locked the parents in the nurseryto become the lions tasty lunch. Bradbury creates suspense
through the use of sensory details and foreshadowing.
One unusual day George and Lydia wander into their children s nursery confused on the
appearance of lions and vultures. The couple observes a pride of lions heading to the watering
hole after finishing the lunch. The author describes the dead carcasses circling around the body.
The reader can infer that things that happen in the nursery have to do with death. A few moments
later, Lydia observes the lions and realizes that the lions might be a little too real to be virtual
reality. The lions feeding and other actions looked like more than what a fake lion would do. Later
in the story Lydia and George are standing near the nursery confused about the lions when Lydia
hears a scream. Startled, she asks George if he heard it too. Surprisingly, George did not hear
anything. As the story progresses the couple hears the screams two more times. The screams are
unusually familiar to George and Lydia. At the end George and Lydia realize the screams were
their own. Bradbury describes the lions to allow

Expressive Arts Therapy Essay
Before we can understand what expressive art therapy is, however, an understanding of terms, like
imagination and creativity, is necessary. There is a lack of consensus about how imagination and
creativity are defined and who is capable of it. In therapeutic contexts, the essence of imagination
is the substance of dreams. Dreams, however, are not just images. In dreams, sounds, rhythms,
acts, etc. can be perceived in a sensory or experiential way (Levine Levine, 2004). Creativitysprings
from imagination and is understood in terms of its qualities and characteristics: spontaneity,

Western traditions narrowly define art as a market oriented specialized discipline (Levine Levine,
2004). When art is used therapeutically, content and meaning take priority over mechanics and
technicalities.
Creativity and creative process figure prominently in the theories of both Freud and Jung. Freud
considers the source and motivation for creativity while Jung focuses on creative process.
According to Freud, creativity is rooted in conflicts. The creative process is a response to the need
to resolve conflicts. Freud includes daydreams and fantasies in the realm of creative works. They
are inner desires, frustrations, or discontent transformed into art, literature, or music. Jung also
believes human consciousness provides the content for art, literature and music. He identifies two
types of creative processes: psychological and visionary. The psychological mode originates out of
the collective unconscious and archetypes. Visionary creative processes are transcendental and
universal in both meaning and response. This visionary mode is limited to the gifted few being
capable of its expression (Malchiodi, 2007).
Almost every theoretical orientation has adapted the use and techniques of expressive arts therapy
in some way. Humanistic psychology, for example, emphasizes the importance of play, creativity,
and spontaneity. The creative process is intrinsic to self actualization. Self actualization makes life

Similarities Between The Council Of EU And The European...
The Council of the European Union (EU) and the European council are both institutions of the EU.
They have varying roles that are sometimes shared to fulfil duties within the EU that crucial to its
functioning properly. The European Council defines the direction and the priorities of the EU, it is
formed from heads of state and/or the government of a member state combined with its President
and the President of the Commission. The Council of the EU represents the member states
governments and it is also where the national ministers of each EU country meet up to adopt laws
and coordinate policies. To explain properly, it must be clear of the main features that exist in the
roles that these two institutions provide, these are supranational and intergovernmental features.
The two Councils are supranational, this means they are legal systems that sit above (supra)
national level, and therefore is of higher status the law made at national level. They are also
intergovernmental meaning their roles are related or conducted between two or more governments
, in this case the governments of the member states. The Council of the EU is more commonly
known Council of Ministers; however, its more formal title comes from the Treaty of Maastricht.
Between the introduction of the European Economic Community (EEC) in 1958 and the Single
European Act (SEA) 1987, the Council of the EU was considered to almost an entirely
intergovernmental structure. Some people such as Professors Wyatt

claiming that no definition can encompass the practical use of the word and instead provides a
step by step approach to explaining beliefs and actions in the perspective of a methodological
atheist. Geertz, however, provides a working definition broken into a five part model to make it a
useful tool. Upon further analysis of these two methods, the once contradicting ideas begin to work
in unison with each other. Martin s functionalist approach and the definition... Show more content

Martin discusses the uses of the hermeneutics of suspicion for his second step in his approach. He
believes it is important to remain suspicious of the cultural element being examined and presume it
is false. Geertz, in the second part of his definition, states that a system of symbols acts to establish
powerful, pervasive and long lasting moods and motivations in men (Geertz, 1993). This statement
is in agreeance with the suspicious mindset provided by Martin, as Geertz also does not confirm
any religious beliefs to be true. He uses the word acts to show that the cultural elements function in
a specific way, not to prove their factual accuracy. His definition demonstrates the unity of
individual components in a culture and how they function. Both methods do not approach religion
with yes or no questions but rather seek the answer to why it functions in particular ways and how
it continues to exist. In life, there are questions that have answers unable to be proven with facts of
science, which leaves a lot of room up for interpretation. As previously stated, neither Martin nor
Geertz tries to prove religious facts but rather explains them in terms of how they function in the
practical world. Martin s last step in the methodological atheist approach is to provide a
functionalist explanation as to why the cultural element persists in societies. In investigating this
function, Martin must analyze all parts of Geertz s definition. The

The Legal System Of The Law
The law is worldwide; it affects almost every aspect of our everyday lives and also has an impact
on every individual. There are many types of laws such as laws that deal with crimes and laws
that govern activities within the community; there are also specific laws in certain portions of
the legal system. Laws are made in order to give us rules of conduct that protect everyone s
individual rights (Canada Department of Justice). How law is dealt with is seen to vary
throughout different countries for the reason that each country contains different laws that are
based to fit their culture and customs. However, when law is dealt with, regardless of the area it
is enforced in; if the crime of the accused is serious enough it will go through a trial system
which is also seen to vary depending on the country. A trial system is the process of examining a
case in the court of law and deciding if an individual is innocent or guilty of what they are being
accused for (Macmillan dictionary). Trial systems are an important part of the legal system for
the reason that everyone is entitled to the right of a fair trial procedure which allows the
individual that is being accused to be determined innocent or guilty through the rule of law so that
if the individual is in fact innocent then there will be no consequences and all will be forgotten and
if guilty they will be dealt with properly. Trials are held accordingly depending on the trial system
that is being used in that particular court

Why We Should Be Allowed To Chew Gum In School
Have you ever wondered if you should be allowed to chew gum in school? I think we should be
allowed to because it helps with focusing on so many things. Research shows that chewing gum
in school can help you concentrate, and remember things better. So many people say it shouldn t
be allowed in schools because of irresponsible students. They are scared that they will dispose the
gum in the wrong places. The delicious treat that many people like to chew on is a great thing for
schools everywhere! Students should be allowed to chew gum in school.
Chewing gum at school can help with memory loss. While chewing the gum, it helps you
concentrate for longer periods of time. Different research studies all came out with the same
outcome in the end. It was that chewing gum helped students remember the correct answers to
everyday tests. The continuous motion of opening and closing of the jaw helps with memory.
The hippocampus is the area of the brain that helps with memory, and it improves when you re
chewing on something. Also it takes away sleepiness, so students would be able to work for
longer periods of time. Craig Johnston, PhD, an instructor of pediatrics nutrition at the Baylor
College of medicine, led a study with 108 8th grade students. (Hendrick, 2009) He did this to see
if chewing gum really did help in school. Johnston split the group into two groups for the study.
One group chewed Wrigley s sugar free gum while doing homework, while the other group didn t

My Trip From The Airport
My Trip to California
As we just finished going through the airport security my family and I were walking through
Denver International Airport all I could here was the chatter of people and the screeching of
wheels on a person s suitcase. I took a inhale of the smell and all I could smell is the subway we
were next to. As I kept walking I was confuzzled on where we were supposed to go, I asked my
mom and she told me We are going to Gate B45 . As we got there I was started to get hesitant
because it was gonna be my first time on a plane! Then we heard the flight attendant say over the
speaker Now boarding flight to Los Angeles, Gate B45 . As we stood up and got in line I was
uneasy and eager at the same time. As I went through the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

We left but first we saw EVERY exhibit there!!
The next day was pretty much the same, woke up,took a shower, and ate breakfast at the hotel. This
time around we went so Seaworld! When we first got there it was completely empty like barely
anyone there, except workers of course. We bought our tickets and went on. The first thing my
family and I did was go watch the Seal show. It was actually really funny, we sat in the Splash
Zone and the seals splashed so much water all over us and it got all of our stuff wet. Next, my
brother and I went to the humongous thrill rides, my favorite ride was the Manta . When we got
on I was excited, I could hear the wheels squeaking and then we took off I could feel the wind in
my face my hair was waving everywhere and I was having so much fun on the Manta. When we
got off I rushed back to line with my brother and said We re going on this again, I don t care what
you say! And he agreed. It was the same experience, fun, fast, chills, and much more. Later that day
we met up to watch the dolphin show with my family. We were waiting then all of a sudden we
saw a bottlenose dolphin shoot out of the water and I was amazed. I couldn t believe what all of
these dolphins could do! I was still shocked what these Dolphins could do. When we left I took a
picture with the magnificent Dolphins of the show. Sea world was on of the best and most amazing
experiences of my trip to California.
I woke up to the crying

  • 4. Cat Feces Essay Cat feces is categorized as a teratogen because it is directly linked to an infection called Toxoplasma gondii, or toxoplasmosis. Toxoplasmosis is caused by a parasite that replicates in the host s intestines and then shed into the feces. Felines, including domesticated cats, are hosts for toxoplasmosis (Many Koren, 2006). While most mammals and birds are also hosts for toxoplasma gondii, felines are the only animals that pass the infection through their feces (Elmore et al., 2010). Thus, while humans can become infected with toxoplasmosis in numerous ways, one potential method is through the ingestion of catfeces. Regarding pregnancy, this infection can have devastating effects on a fetus, particularly in the early stages of pregnancy (Dunn et al., 1999). As mentioned ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Per the CDC, a pregnant woman does not have to get rid of her cat to prevent infection (Toxoplasmosis Frequently Asked Questions FAQs, 2013). However, it is necessary to take precautions to minimize the risk of exposure and potential infection. Safety precautions include keeping a clean litter box by changing it daily. • 5. Mens Rea Essay n criminal law, the mens rea refers to the defendant s state of mind at the time of their crime and there are several levels reflecting the need to have a particular mens rea for the offence committed. For example, in murder or a S:18 offence in the Offences Against the Person Act 1861, the mens rea present must be that of specific intent, which is where the defendant desired that particular outcome of their actions. However, it was held in R v Cunningham 1982, that the intention to cause serious harm was enough to satisfy the mens rea for murder. This shows that, where murder cases are concerned, that it is relatively easy to prove the required mens rea and in doing so the concept of fault is often satisfied. This is once again shown in oblique... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the original hearing, Ahluwalia was convicted of murder as the law on provocation required the loss of self control to be immediate, not premeditated and this may have been the case as the defendant waited for her husband to sleep before murdering him. However, the law has since developed and provocation now recognises battered woman s syndrome and the slow burn effect it may cause. If this is the case, then surely a defendant in such a situation cannot face the full wrath of fault when much of what surrounded the killing was not out of their choice. Even though the actus reus and mens rea in this case, and also similar cases of R v Duffy 1949 and R v Thornton 1992, were present, the law s introduction of a Domestic Violence Bill is perhaps confirmation that the concept of fault can only be appropriately applied when the full circumstances are looked at. This signifies the importance of defences, as it is here that the law can decide whether or not a person is to blame for their actions and to what extent it was their fault that the actus reus and mens rea were ... Much of the story Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger consists of Holden Caulfield s social interactions with others and his adventure home after being expelled from what seems like just another school amongst many in his history. It goes without saying that JD Salinger has made a classic hit novel through the integration of an eccentric main character and an unconventional plot. Although the plot is abnormal, the oddity translates into something noteworthy as the book still retains the noteworthy qualities of any other award winning book. The exposition of Catcher in the Rye depicts troubled youth Holden Caulfield on his last day attending Pencey Prep School forever as he was expelled just before winter break due to his low grades in most of his classes. Dissociative Identity Disorder and Communication Essay In this critical reflection paper, I will aim to discuss ways in which those diagnosed with Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) attempt to communicate with their co personalities, also how those with DID sort through the multi personality layers within themselves to aim for a sense of normality, calmness and co existence. Communication is an important part of those diagnosed with Dissociative Identity Disorders. DID can commonly be described as a severe condition in which two or more distinct identities, or personality states, are present in and alternately take control of an individual, John Wiley (2012). • 8. Two Versions of To Build a Fire by Jack London The story To Build a Fire written by Jack London has two nearly identical versions published in 1902 and 1908 respectively. The latter is better known and more thought provoking because of the protagonist s death. To begin with, the journey takes place on a cold winter day in Klondike, consists of a man and his dog. The man is ignorant of the extreme coldness and feels confident about travelling alone at fifty degrees below zero. However, he breaks through a thin skin of ice unexpectedly and wets himself halfway to the knees. In order to dry his feet, the man builds a fire, only to have it extinguished by a pile of snow unloaded from a tree. He tries to set up another fire, yet all attempts has failed. The man panics and strives to unfreeze his body by running. Not surprisingly, his efforts are useless, and the man dies of hypothermiaat last. The author effectively supports the central conflict of man versus nature and gives hints about the man s death as resolution by using appropriate title, descriptive setting, and a large amount of foreshadowing. First of all, the title is well chosen, for it gives the readers an overview of the story and supports the plot effectively. Detailed descriptions of how to set up a fire and the man s continuous attempts to do so reflect that the story evolves around the phrase to build a fire . Throughout his journey, if the man succeeds in making a fire, it brings warmth, hope, and life; on the other hand, if he fails, it means coldness ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Between the two cartoons Little Black Sambo, Betty Boop, All this Rabbit Stew, and Jungle Jitters the African Americans all had the same physical features such as facial appearance. When he lures Fortunado into the catacombs he gives him many opportunities to get out of it but he does not suspect Montresor of anything so he continues to trust him. There is also a considerable amount of irony in both of the stories. The best example is when they try to convince the audience that they are completely sane and that their actions are justified. The narrator tirelessly attempts to convince whoever he is telling his story to that he is perfectly sane while recounting how he viciously murdered an old man he claimed to love, chopped up his body, and hid him in the floorboards all because he didn t like his vulture eye. While he believes that he is going to persuade his audience that he was in his right mind, all he is doing his backing up the assumption that he is mentally ill and is in no way sane. Montresor does not try as hard to make his listeners believe in his sanity. His victim, Fortunado, as a character is also a good example of irony. His name, which translates to lucky , proves to be extremely ironic when he is the one that ends up being killed. The Egyptians were one of the very few that arose to civilization independently, and accomplished many impressive things along the way. The Egyptian civilization stretched along the lower reaches of the Nile River in Northeastern Africa. Religion was at the core of everything that the Egyptians were and they stood firm for what they believed in. Their religion was based on polytheism, which was the belief of many gods. The Egyptians had 2000 or more gods or goddess and each community would worship their own deities (Ancient Egyptian Religion). As a result of their beliefs, the Pharaoh was seen as the most powerful person in ancient Egyptand oversaw all state religious activity. What made the Pharaoh so special was that the people recognized that he was human, and he was subject to human weakness, but they still viewed him as a divine power of kingship (Religion). The Egyptians believe that the pharaoh was half human and half god, and would work as an intermediary between the Egyptian people and the gods (Religion). The Ancient Egyptians also believed that the pharaoh was the sun god, god Horus. It was believed that when the pharaoh died he would be reunited with the sun, and a new sun god would rule on Earth (Barrow, Mandy). This is true because there are many men and women who have survived poverty and achieved success, such as Ophra Winfrey. The Negro Family: The Case for National Action report by Daniel Moynihan persuades readers to think that blacks are living in poverty are all not able to achieve a good life. He says that if black men were to all have jobs then black families would stay out of poverty. This is false because a family s income is not determined by just the man. We are all created in God s image, and as such deserve respect, understanding and a sense of belonging. As Dick Staub so adequately explains Wholly unlike God we are nevertheless God s image bearers. Wholly unlike God, we are like God in that we are free beings. Knowing that true loveis chosen, not imposed, Godgave humans the gift of freedom freedom to choose either to glorify God, as creatures who honor their creator, or to usurp God s rightful place, choosing to glorify ourselves the created ones. The years have shown me that often people walk past the envisioned spiritual cord hanging in their face. If noticed and pulled it is used it as a veil instead, or a blind fold. The misunderstood ropes are tied in knots and years can be spent endeavoring to untangle them. Bondage instead of freedom prevails. Freelance writer Rachel Krantz not only believes that TV is not useful for your mind, it may kill you, decrease your chances of having kids, ruin the ones you do have, and possibly turn you violent. Could any of this have happened to me as I was binge watching The Simpsons from seasons one to eight during the summer? I initially thoughtthat this show was prone to dumb me down as I did this, but instead it enlightened me through its clever writing. Even with gags as dumb as an old man hurt by a football thrown to his groin, I felt as if no other show was as thoughtful and full of heart as The Simpsons. Despite that Krantz s claims are backed by academic studies and research on television, it should be the least concern for our minds. Television does not rot our minds; it intellectually challenges and aptly adjusts our minds depending on how we use it. The further time a kid spends watching television, the larger their brains grow. That seems great, although apparently this is considered unhealthy for them. A recent Japanese study reveals that as kids between ages 5 through 18 spend, on average, two hours of watching TV per day, certain areas of their brains were growing. However, in the novel The Woman Warrior by Maxine Hong Kingston, the term ghost adopts a meaning that holds a much greater depth. All throughout the text, the word ghost reoccurs in a metaphorical sense that binds together the overlying theme of culture disconnect between the generations of the Chinese Americans. Kingston equips figurative usage of ghosts in order to establish a setting in which there is an evident cultural gap between those described as ghosts, and those who live and breathe in a traditional Chinese sense. At the very start of the novel, Kingston introduces ghost in a scene where villagers are raiding the family home of the No Name Woman, exclaiming Pig. Ghost. Pig, as they do so, (5). By declaring that the aunt who committed an unspeakable crime to be a ghost allows readers to grasp an initial sense of what ghost truly means. A ghost is an outcast, one who does not abide by the values deemed just by the majority. Further developing this idea, the nameless aunt s own family curses her by saying, Ghost! Dead ghost! Ghost! You ve never been born, (14). Both her village and her very own family, the folks whom she holds dearest to her heart, are able to completely deny her existence and shun her from their realities. In the late 19th and early 20th century an idea began to gain solidarity and momentum, that of Zionism. The idea of Zionism, to create a Jewish state, is arguably one of modern society s most polarizing and influential movements. Zionism has influenced political, religious, and social groups in a variety of ways that culminated in the creation of a Jewish state in Palestine.(Cohen, week 10) The term Zionism, as it is understood today, began to be used significantly by the political activist Herzl. Herzl was driven to action following the event of the infamous anti Semitic Dreyfus affair in which a Jewish/French officer was wrongly accused of spying for Germany. This led Herzl to believe that anywhere the Jews went they would be unfairly persecuted. Herzl s solution, create an independent Jewish state. To realize his goal Herzl began to look to political, religious, and social groups to garner support for his cause. That is, three years ago more than one in four workers in our country were not able to stave off poverty despite their active employment, according to the Economic Policy Institute, and that number has only increased since then. In her book, Nickel and Dimed: On Not Getting By in America, acclaimed journalist and social activist Barbara Ehrenreich comments on the negative perceptions of the working class among educated elites. She feels that the wealthier classes are out of touch with workers, and have even grown to fear and distrust them. In recounting her experiences going from an acclaimed journalist to minimum wage laborer, Ehrenreich revealed many of the prejudices that affluent Americans demonstrate towards the working classes. While working as a maid, she senses a level of disdain from the upper class that she never felt as an educated professional. She rails against the intrusive drug and personality tests that her employers at Walmart demand, feeling that they are sparked by a sense of mistrust of the poor from the management of the company [Ehrenreich 212]. She notices that the poor are conspicuously neglected by the media, as well [117]. Upper class society has come to think of the working class as a group of people who are idle, negligent, and untrustworthy, undeserving of social status and respect. However, the perception of the American low wage worker as lazy and slothful is grossly inaccurate. Low wage workers usually labor long hours at physically demanding jobs, for little pay. According to C. Boulton (2016), 57.5% of poor data are caused by users, followed by 47% caused by data migration and integration, which usually lead to gaps or duplicate information, and 43.5% caused by changes to source systems (Figure 5) [45]. Figure 5: Causes of poor data quality [45] Jack E. Olson (2003) defined data quality as data that are linked to their fit for use. In other words, high data quality is obtained when the data fulfill the requirements and the criteria of its intended usage. In contrast, poor quality results when the data do not fulfil their requirements [44]. 3.3 Dimensions of Data Quality In previous research, data quality was divided into two main categories: intrinsic and contextual. In the intrinsic category, value resides within the data, which refers to objective attributes. In the contextual category, the attributes of the data mainly depend on the context in which the data are present, used, as well as the situation or problem. (NAKELL, 1978) The death penalty is much more expensive than life imprisonment without parole. Capital trails are longer and more expensive at every step than other murder trials. Capital cases tend to last several years and can consist of pretrial motions, expert witness investigations, jury selection, and the necessity for two trials; one on guilt and the other on sentencing. Once an individual is sentenced to death, the case automatically gets appealed to the state, then to the Court of Appeals and finally to the Supreme Court. Guilty pleas in capital punishment cases are almost unheard of, plus many of these trials result in life sentences anyway, so the state in which the trial is held ends up paying for the costs of the capital case. The extreme costs of capital punishment are actually making America less safe because financial and legal resources are being diverted from effective crime fighting. When a prosecutor decides to pursue a capital case they go to extensive and costly means, this may include the use of forensics, psychology, technology, and witnesses. The states (tax payers) also suffer; security precautions imposed by the death sentence must be paid. Benjamin has high regard for translation, placing it in the realm of art as a distinct form. He argues that art is not about the audience or the receiver that is, it is not primarily about communication. The purpose of art is not to instil a specific belief, impart information or to entertain certain sentiments in the reader thus, appreciation does not reside in generating a moral by interpreting its content. Likewise, translation cannot be considered to interact with the reader, seeking to communicate the meaning of the original text as the content is not essential in our appreciation of the text. His question assumes the original and the translation as distinct categories, both of which, for him, are works of art. Apart from carrying messages and prolonging the value of texts, what is unique to translation is its potential to express the central reciprocal relationship between languages (72), its kinship to another language and its potential to bring out the pure language where the mutually exclusive elements among languages can mingle and supplement one another (74) and where complementary intentions between two languages can be communicated. Therefore, the translator should not be restrained by the burden of relaying what the original means. Benjamin claims that languages are not strangers to one another, but are, a priori and apart from all historical relationships, interrelated in what they want to express (72). Freud considers the source and motivation for creativity while Jung focuses on creative process. According to Freud, creativity is rooted in conflicts. The creative process is a response to the need to resolve conflicts. Freud includes daydreams and fantasies in the realm of creative works. They are inner desires, frustrations, or discontent transformed into art, literature, or music. Jung also believes human consciousness provides the content for art, literature and music. They have varying roles that are sometimes shared to fulfil duties within the EU that crucial to its functioning properly. The European Council defines the direction and the priorities of the EU, it is formed from heads of state and/or the government of a member state combined with its President and the President of the Commission. The Council of the EU represents the member states governments and it is also where the national ministers of each EU country meet up to adopt laws and coordinate policies. To explain properly, it must be clear of the main features that exist in the roles that these two institutions provide, these are supranational and intergovernmental features. The two Councils are supranational, this means they are legal systems that sit above (supra) national level, and therefore is of higher status the law made at national level. They are also intergovernmental meaning their roles are related or conducted between two or more governments , in this case the governments of the member states. The Council of the EU is more commonly known Council of Ministers; however, its more formal title comes from the Treaty of Maastricht. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Martin discusses the uses of the hermeneutics of suspicion for his second step in his approach. He believes it is important to remain suspicious of the cultural element being examined and presume it is false. Geertz, in the second part of his definition, states that a system of symbols acts to establish powerful, pervasive and long lasting moods and motivations in men (Geertz, 1993). This statement is in agreeance with the suspicious mindset provided by Martin, as Geertz also does not confirm any religious beliefs to be true. He uses the word acts to show that the cultural elements function in a specific way, not to prove their factual accuracy. His definition demonstrates the unity of individual components in a culture and how they function. Both methods do not approach religion with yes or no questions but rather seek the answer to why it functions in particular ways and how it continues to exist. In life, there are questions that have answers unable to be proven with facts of science, which leaves a lot of room up for interpretation. As previously stated, neither Martin nor Geertz tries to prove religious facts but rather explains them in terms of how they function in the practical world. There are many types of laws such as laws that deal with crimes and laws that govern activities within the community; there are also specific laws in certain portions of the legal system. Laws are made in order to give us rules of conduct that protect everyone s individual rights (Canada Department of Justice). How law is dealt with is seen to vary throughout different countries for the reason that each country contains different laws that are based to fit their culture and customs. However, when law is dealt with, regardless of the area it is enforced in; if the crime of the accused is serious enough it will go through a trial system which is also seen to vary depending on the country. A trial system is the process of examining a case in the court of law and deciding if an individual is innocent or guilty of what they are being accused for (Macmillan dictionary). Trial systems are an important part of the legal system for the reason that everyone is entitled to the right of a fair trial procedure which allows the individual that is being accused to be determined innocent or guilty through the rule of law so that if the individual is in fact innocent then there will be no consequences and all will be forgotten and if guilty they will be dealt with properly.
