2. Essay on African American Contributions in Science
African American Contributions in Science Throughout American history many
African Americans have been overlooked in the field of science. Some powerful
minds and great inventors haven t been re introduced to new generations. African
Americans have contributed a great deal to the advancements of our country and one
of the major fields they have made contributions to is in the field of science. Many
successful African Americanshave been overshadowed by their Caucasian
counterparts. More of our children shouldbe aware of these great historians. African
Americans that have made major contributions in the field of science that should be
discussed, studied and taught to our society to educate new generations of the vast

Benjamin Bradley was an inventor, and also was a slave. He made the first steam
engine at the age of sixteen with a few materials like a piece of gun barrel and
pewter. His master helped him, but would only give him five dollars out of his
wages. Bradley was unable to patent his work under United States law, since during
this time period African Americans were not considered to be citizens. Benjamin
Bradley later purchased his freedom with the earnings he received from his work.
Everyone has heard of the term The Real McCoy, this term refers to the oiling
device used for industrial machinery. Elijah McCoy was born in Canada from
parents who were former slaves. He returned to the U.S. and settled in Detroit,
Michigan. His first invention was a lubricator for steam engines. It was issued on
July 12, 1872. The invention helped machines specific parts that remained in motion
to stay oiled. This new oiling device helped revolutionize the industrial machine
industry. Another great inventor whose inventions made streets safer was Garrett
Morgan. Morgan is known for inventing the Gas Mask and the traffic signal. He
was the son of former slaves and was born in Paris, Kentucky where he spent his
childhood going to school and helping out on the farm. He left Kentucky when he
was a teenager and moved to Cincinnati, Ohio in search of other opportunities.
Morgan invented a device called the Morgan Safety hood and smoke protector in

4. Analysis Of Oliver Sacks s The Lost Mariner
Oliver Sacks account of a person with severe amnesia resulting from Korsakov s
syndrome is appropriately named The Lost Mariner ; Jimmie, the patient, seems
lost , and Sacks even questions if he has been de souled by [his] disease (36).
Through The Lost Mariner , Sacks depicts personal narrative as a necessity for a
complete existence. The portion of his life that Jimmie can recall is full and
satisfying; he became a submarine s assistant radio operator when he was drafted
in 1943 and was engaged to a woman (Sacks, 23). Jimmie, however, cannot
remember anything after the age of nineteen; in a figurative sense, his life ends at
this age in the year 1945. As a result, he does not even feel alive ; he does not feel
that his life... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This suggests that Sacks doesn t believe that a continuing narrative is necessary for an
identity, but rather some element of a personal narrative. Sacks edition of The Lost
Mariner is a compelling narrative because it is shocking; it violates all of the internal
rules that individuals have about the way that individuals are treated in narratives.
According to Jerome Bruner s The Narrative Construction of Reality , a story is only
worth telling if an implicit canonical script has been breached ; in other words, if it
infringes upon the norm (11). Jimmie comes across as a positive character in terms
of personality; Sacks describes him as cheerful, friendly, and warm and a genial soul
(22 23). Traditionally, likeable characters are expected to prosper and experience
happiness within narrative; however, this is not the case with Jimmie, as he feels
miserable due to his inability to interact with the present. This example of the
concept of breach that Bruner states is necessary for a story to be attractive. Another
component of the story s allure is the role in it that the concept of narrative accrual
plays. Narrative accrual refers to the collection of smaller narratives to form a longer
one, such as with history, culture, and autobiographies (Bruner, 18 20). One of the
most significant manifestations of

8. Taxonomic Importance Of Trichomes
In this study, taxonomic importance of trichomes morphology and density were
investigated in ..........Nepeta species. On the bases of previous investigations (e.g.
Gairola et al., 2009; Metcalfe and Chalk, 1950) the traits of indumentum are very
useful in taxonomical treatment of Labiatae at various levels, either infrageneric
(Navarro and El Oualidi, 2000), or infraspecific (Giuliani et al., 2008). Non
glandular trichomes widely covered both surfaces of leaves and several types of
them were found. The number of these trichomes was more than glandular ones.
Studies showed that this is a common feature in Labiatae family (Metcalfe and Chalk,
1950 ). Based on the morphology and also cells number, the non glandular trichomes

Kaya et al. (2007) have recently shown the trichomes are widespread in the
Labiatae, while they differ significantly in their morphology and dimensions. The
studied species had two types of capitate trichomes. The main difference of these
trichomes was stalk length. Metcalfe and Chalk, (1950) stated that capitate
trichomes are very common in Nepeta genus and three types of them were
recorded in several species of Nepeta. The capitate trichomes of N. congesta var.
congesta, N. racemosa differed in both stalk and head cells number, and three kinds
were existed (Kaya et al., 2007; Bourett et al., 1994). Number of each type varied
between the studied species and as seen in fig.1, this character can use as a
significant feature in taxonomy of the genus. However, capitate trichomes were the
prominent type of glandular hairs in all of the studied species and other type of
glandular types distributed between them. This status was reported from different
species. For instance, Marin et al., (2006) observed that in Marrobium vulgare and
Rosmarinus officinalis, these hairs were densely distributed, but the peltate type were
scattered among them. Other type of observed glandular hairs in Nepeta species was
peltate trichomes, which widely distributed in abaxial surface of leaves. The peltate
trichomes were located in deeper depressions of leaf surfaces, similar to
Dracocephalum moldavicum, Origanum vulgare subsp. vulgare, Thymus lykae, and
Thymus quinquecostatus

And...
The objective of this paper is twofold. First, we introduce the modern condition of
Canada s energy consumption and the economic benefits. Second, we define and
analyze the projections of Canada s future with respect to the renewable energy
frontier. The demand for Energy across the globe has drastically increased since the
Industrial revolution. From coal to steam, all the way to electricity and nuclear
energy, modern economies and industries rely on sustainable sources of energy to
produce their desired output levels (Zelby 2002). Ontario, and Canada in general are
on the frontier of energy production and sustainability with regards to smart grid
technologies and so forth (Ontario Energy Plan). Canada specializes in many of the...

With a growing surplus, Canada will pay substantial amounts towards Research
Development, pushing forward Innovation in the energy sector, leading to a brighter,
cleaner future. This paper will discuss the frontiers of promising sectors of the
Canadian Energy, specifically in Nuclear Energy and Natural Gas/Oil, which will
allow energy sustainability for the future of this country, and perhaps the world.
Lucrative Energy Sector: Uranium Nuclear Power
Nuclear Power is like the unloved child of renewable energy, it only gets noticed
when it does something wrong, it has so much potential! Anonymous Nuclear
Energy in Canada accounts for over half the nations energy supply. This large
amount of output is dependent on the sustainability of the plant production and
government policy towards it. With many of the Kilowatt Hours (KwH) being
exported to nations across the sea (World Nuclear Association 2013). Exports have
skyrocketed due to our position on a global scale of uranium supply, second behind
Russia. Canadian industries and production campaigns use Nuclear Energy as their
main supply. About 59% of Canada s electricity comes from nuclear power, with 19
reactors mostly in Ontario providing 13.5 GWe of power capacity (World Nuclear
Association 2013). Currently there are nuclear plants active in Pickering, Darlington
and Bruce.
10. Why Is It Important To Engage Young People In...
Young people bring a new perspective to the concept of leadership. Their age
suggests limitations to what is seen as conventional markers of leadership,
however they still have the ability to lead or influence others within a given
context. Freire argues that knowledge gained from living experience should not be
rejected or valued less than developed knowledge. Living experience plays a valid
part in understanding the larger context. Young people may not understand the
complexities of the democratic system and broader contexts, but this does not
invalidate their worldview and living experience of how the decisions made impact
them. Moreover, their living experience brings detail and richness to the decision
making process. However, young people can be easily marginalized in the decision
making processes, largely due to the lack of legal standing when under the age of
eighteen. Young people who are unable to vote are largely left to other measures such
as protests and petitions (Freire). Empowerment is, therefore, critical to the
participation for them to become active in the context and power relationships they
are involved in. Empowered young people hold elected representatives and other
delegates accountable for the decisions they make, and the power they have been...

11. Promiscuity In 1001 Arabian Nights
The story of 1001 Arabian Nights is an interesting collection of stories but the
prologue is even more fascinating. The King, Shahryar went on a rampage where
he would marry the daughter of a merchant every night and kill her the next
morning after he had sex with her. You might be thinking, this must be a mad man
but hold your thoughts until after you have heard his reasoning for why he
performed is this gruesome act. Shahryar and his brother Shahzaman were both
kings in two different countries. Shahryar after not seeing his brother for quite
some time, sent his vizier to bid him come visit him. However the night before
Shahzaman leaves he discovered that his wife was having an affair with the cook
of his palace. In his fury and rage he killed both his wife and the cook for
disrespecting him like this. Despite the ordeal he still went to visit his brother, but

They however, have mastered the art of hiding it to keep up with this image of
machoism. They do not have the means to go to the extent as the king did but
some of the things they do, as a result of being betrayed is quite similar. Albert Ellis
in his article SEXUAL PROMISCUITY in America concluded that Promiscuity
has become almost become a norm in our society especially in my generation. It is
one of the many reasons why relationships end. The irony of this compared to
Shahryar s story is that it is the have become promiscuous. This is not to say that
all men are cheaters or all women are faithful but statistics show that more men are
unfaithful in their relationships for a variety of reason. Most of the times both
parties do not set out to hurt each other, they probably have been betrayed and are
now seeking to take their revenge by hurting as many people as they possibly can.
Not realizing that this only leads to a cycle of betrayal, hurt, and broken people in
our society which benefits no

North Korea is one of the last family run dictatorships in the world. They have been
determined to become a Powerful and prosperous nation (Kiener). North Korea is
so set on being extremely powerful and building nuclear weapons but has not been
able to feed their people for years. Missile testing has become more and more
common from North Koreain the last year and has been striking fear into all nations
around them. North Korea has launched missiles over Japan and most recently
Hawaii; they have also conducted six underground nuclear weapontests. Not only
has North Korea become a threat to South Korea but also to the rest of the world.
People all over the world are asking how can we protect ourselves and what actions
will be made to stop North Korea from creating havoc throughout the world. Threats
have been made by both the United Statesand North Korea. One statement by the
Koreans was the reasoning for these testing s were to deal with President Trump

powerful and prosperous nation (Kiener). The North is trying to show how
powerful they really are and are starting to bully everyone else. President Trump s

14. Importance Of Ancient Greek Theatre
Hey students! Welcome to the Funky Museum of Ancient Greek Culture, we re going
to learn about ancient Greek Olympics, theatre, and architecture. You might be
wonder where Greece is and why is it important? Greece is North of the
Mediterranean sea, West of the Aegean Sea, East of the Ionian Sea, and South of
Macedonia. Ancient Greeceis so important to our modern world, because we
replicated their culture, specifically their olympics, theatre, and architecture. Their
culture is still honored and used today. Culture is a habit or belief that is shared
among people, we borrowed and recreated Greek cultured by taking their ideas and
designs. One of the architecture designs is the Doric column (Ancient Greek
Architecture). We also use their theatre structure and their Olympic games. Our
modern life wouldn t be the same without ancient Greece and its culture. Without
Greeks making Doric,Ionic, and Corinthian columns our architecture wouldn t be the
same, buildings like The Capitol, Supreme Court, and the Lincoln memorial wouldn t
look like what the look like today. Ancient Greek theatre is also important to modern
life today because, our theatre structure today is build off the ancient Greeks
structure, and the material inside books and plays wouldn t be the same. Greeks used
suspense and historical events to build interesting in the crowd, just like we do today.
Ancient Greeks are also important to the modern world because of Ancient Olympics,
the Greeks started doing the Olympics
15. Transposable Elements Carry Out Gene Tagging and...
Transposable elements are useful for carrying out gene tagging and functional
genomics studies. In plants, various transposable element systems like Ac/Ds, En
/Spm, and Mu from maize have been utilised for gene determining tools. Of these,
Ac/Ds transposons system has been efficiently used for such studies in various
heterologous monocot species like rice, barley and dicot species. Wild barley, being a
rich source of novel useful genes, can be exploited as a transpososn based gene
tagging resource. The aim of this study was to develop new molecular breeding
tools for the discovery of novel genes from wild barley. In the first objective, an
endogenous Mu transposable element was found in three PGRC wild barley lines and
nested inverse PCR (iPCR) technique was utilized to generate flanking sequences
from this Mu transposon. Basic bioinformatics analysis of 8 flanking sequences has
identified 6 sequences with important genes responsible for certain domesticated
traits. In the second objective, wild barley lines Damon and Shechem were crossed
with a Ds containing cultivated barley line, TNP11. Four crosses were made with
Shechem line and five crosses were made with Damon line and further, two
backcrosses were also made with Damon line. These newly developed Ds insertion
lines and newly found Mu containing wild barley lines can be utilized for molecular
breeding and to carryout functional genomics studies for understanding of useful
genes.

17. The Documentary The Sixteenth Man
The documentary the 16th man tells the story of the South African rugby team
winning the 1995 World Cup during a time when racial equality was a major issue.
The whites were in power in the country of South Africa and judging others based
simply by their skin color. According to the video blacks outnumbered whites 6 to 1,
but still did not have the right to vote as the whites had complete control. Both sides
were at odds with each other fueled by anger and unjustified resentment. Then when
the 1995 rugby World Cupwas being held in South Africathe South African team was
heavy underdogs. The big news though was one of the better players on the team was
a black man. This created some pride among their race and brought their attention to
the games. South Africaended up shocking the world as they won the World Cup.
This was big news and had a tremendous impact on their fans. However, the biggest
impact could not be measured by a trophy. The victory brought people together.
Allowed people to realize there was no need for the fighting and that they were not
so different after all. The 1995 South African rugby team highlights how sport can
unite people, proving that social and political resolutions can be developed through
sport. Nelson Mandela as a peaceful leader of the South African black community
he realized what sports could do for dying down the racial tension. The sport was
bringing everyone together. Instead of picking racial sides everyone was combined as
18. Sojourner Truth Speech
Does the name Isabella Bomefree ring a bell when learning African American
history? Isabella was an African American born slave on a farm in New York. If
you are still confused on who Isabella Bomefree is that mean you do not know the
past of the great Sojourner Truth. We all know Sojourner Truth as the African
American woman who escaped slaveryand became a great women s rights activist
and abolitionist. The famous Ain t a woman speech given by her in 1851 expressing
her feelings about the antifeminism debates. Truth s life was long lived and very
respected through everything she has been through and by her opening eyes of many.
Born Isabella Baumfree in 1797, Sojourner Truthwas one of 12 kids to James and
Elizabeth Baumfree in the town of Swartekill, in Ulster County, New York. The
Baumfree family was the property of Colonel Hardenbergh, and stayed on the
colonel s land in Esopus, New York, The land had once been under the Dutch, and
both the Baumfrees and the Hardenbaughs communicated in Dutch in their
everyday lives. After their master died the Baumfrees were split up and auctioned
in 1806. Truth but back then known as Belle at the time, was sold at an auction
with sheep for one hundred dollars. Her new master was a man named John Nealy,
who was brutal and evil toward Truth. Throughout the following two years she was
sold twice more to two different men. Truth was sold to a man named John Dumont
in West Park, New York, throughout the years with Dumont she learned how to
speak English. Sojourner Truth had a daughter with another slave named Robert
whom she never saw again due to Robert s slave master not wanting them to be
together. Two years after never seeing Robert, Truth married a slave also owned by
Dumont named Thomas. Thomas and Truth had 3 children in total, one son and two
daughters. John Dumont made a promise to Truth that he would grant her freedom
if she would do well and stayed faithful. Years after Dumont decided not to give
Truth her freedom because of her hand she could not be of any use to Dumont any
longer. Truth decided to escape with her infant daughter in hand and leaving behind
her son and other daughter. Dumont illegally sold Truth s only son, Peter to a man

19. George Herbert Mead s Theory Of Symbolic Interactionism
According to George Herbert Mead, symbolic interactionism is a theory that rely on
the reality of human s daily actions which are interactions. It focuses on roles and
behaviour as well as human s interactions and actions. The idea that individuals use
language and significant symbols in their communication with others is the central to
symbolic interactionist thought . Rather than addressing how common social
institutions define and impact individuals, symbolic interactionists shift their
attention to the interpretation of subjective viewpoints and how individuals make
sense of their world from their unique perspective. Symbolic interactionismbasically
means the ongoing use of language and gestures in anticipation of how others will
react which is equal to a conversation.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Morris in 1934. His theory of the self maintains that the conception a person holds
of themselves in their mind emerges from social interaction with others. This is, in
effect, a theory and argument against biological determinism because it holds that
the self is not at the start there at birth nor necessarily at the beginning of a social
interaction, but is constructed and re constructed in the process of social experience
and activity. This means individuals expand their self concept through interactions
with other people. Self concept gives a vital motive towards people behaviour. For
example, people will not repeat their mistakes once it pointed out by other people.
Not only that, the meanings also regulate our behaviour and actions so that people
do not act hastily and recklessly. This also make us different and seem disciplined in
the current world that people can get popular for doing something stupid and
inappropriate in social media platforms like Instagram and

Work and Self Reliance
ELDER RUSELLE BALLARD Said: My travels have taken me almost everywhere

Asia, Europe, and the heart of the inner cities of America. Everywhere I go, the
cries of the poor ring out often with the plea, Please help us. In Africa alone those
cries do not come from a few; they come from tens of thousands, even millions.
The Church has been especially concerned with teaching self reliance since 1936.

President Brigham Young Commanded us: We should build good homes and create
beautiful communities.
Let the people build good houses, plant good vineyards and orchards, make good
roads, build beautiful cities in which may be found magnificent edifices for the
convenience of the public, handsome streets skirted with shade trees, fountains of
water, crystal streams, and every tree, shrub and flower that will flourish in this
climate, to make our mountain home a paradise and our hearts wells of gratitude to
the God of Joseph, enjoying it all with thankful hearts, saying constantly, not mine
but thy will be done, O Father Then let us be content, and go to with our mights to
make ourselves healthy, wealthy, and beautiful, and preserve ourselves in the best
possible manner, and live just as long as we can, and do all the good we can. Every
improvement that we make not only adds to our comfort but to our wealth.
President Marion G. Romney (1897 1988) taught: Without self reliance one cannot
exercise these innate desires to serve. How can we give if there is nothing there?
Food for the hungry cannot come from empty shelves. Money to assist the needy
cannot come from an empty purse. Support and understanding cannot come from the
emotionally starved. Teaching cannot come from the unlearned. And most important
of all, spiritual guidance cannot come from the spiritually weak.
We should be self reliant in all aspect of life as

22. The Runaway Twin
The Runaway Twin by Peg Kehret is a fascinating book. The way the author
describes the challenges Sunny went through are just outstanding. I think the
theme of this book is to never give up no matter how difficult the challenges that
are thrown at you are because in the end it will be worth it. I believe this because
when Sunny was caught in the middle of a tornado she stuck her ground and tried
her best to survive which she succeeded. Another example is, when Randy was

23. How Did The Economic Revolution Affect Ancient China
The medieval Chinese economic revolution impacted China in many ways. The
Chinese were able to import and export goods at an increasing rate. There were
advances in China s economy. The demand and the amount of goods produced
increased. The productions of goods were affected by the migration to different areas.
It also brought about variations in everyday life in the population and how they
interacted with each other.
During the revolution, trade adapted and soared to great heights. Farmers had
stopped producing just for themselves, but producing surplus and selling the surplus
to the market. In return, they bought things such as tea, wine, and oil. When they
needed to ship commercial crops that they started to grow, the coastal shipping and
inland shipping industries were created. Marco polo claimed to see no less than
fifteen thousand vessels at a single port. Because of the booming shipping industry,
a device used to tell direction was invented. Its name was the compass. It originally
was a needle floating in water and was attached to a stem. It eventually was
updated and put in a case with a glass top for use on ships. The first known use of
the compass was around 1119. Foreign trade also flourished in this period. In 1225
the superintendent of customs wrote his account of what foreign places traders had
visited. It included sketches of important trade cities. He also listed some important
goods to come out of important cities. He also talked of how Chinese merchants

The Anglican Church
The Anglican Church was founded in the year 1534 having the direct cause being
after a disagreement between the pope and the King of England. The church today
has approximately 85 million members (Office, 2017) and is the second largest
church in Australia behind the Roman Catholic Church. (En.wikipedia.org, 2017)
The Anglican Church has similar/shared beliefs to other Christian denominations
however Anglican churches rely on the Holy Scriptures the new and old testaments as
the ultimate rule and standard of faith given by God. Anglicans agree to obey the
commands of Christ and to administer his sacraments of baptism and Holy
Communion. (Anglican.org, 2017)

25. What Was The Us Entry Into World War 1
In 1914, World War 1 erupted in Europe. During the the first first two years of the
war President Wilson decided that America would stay neutral. America did not want
to get involved in a war that was not their battle to win. This benefited America
because both sides of the war would buy supplies from America. Things were going
smooth for America until Germany decided to attack American ships which killed
many Americans. As tension grew between Germany and the United States, President
Wilson still would not enter the war. However, that is until the Zimmermann note
happened in which Germany proposed an alliance with Mexico via telegram if
America would ever enter the war. That event was the last straw because in April 6,

America united to help the Allies be more prepared than Germany while at war.
American entry into World War 1 tipped the balance in favor of the allies because
they provided military soldiers. The United States sent over millions of troops to
fight along the Allies. According, to a message from General Foch stated by the
Prime minister of Great Britain, France, And Italy they stated, The United States
will do everything that can be done ... to proceed with the continuous rising of
fresh levies, calculated to provide, as soon as possible, the numerical superiority
which the Commander in Chief of the Allied Armies regards as essential to
ultimate victory (Doc. D Message Prepared by the Prime minister of Great Britain,
France, and Italy, Versailles, June 2, 1918). This indicated that America knew that
the only way the Allies would defeat Germany if they had more soldiers than
Germany. As soldiers on the both sides of the war were dying the Allies were one
step ahead of the game by gaining support from America. The U.S provided the
Allies with fresh batches of soldiers rolling into the war. America was able to
quickly send troops by created the Selective Service Act. The Act obligated all
26. The Tremendous Growth Of E Commerce During The
Last...
The tremendous growth of E commerce during the last century could baffle some
economist. The market space in the last decade has made a major improvement. In
the first few years, we were seeing the growth of search engines and portals. This is
when the Business to Consumer market began to increase. Over the last couple
years, the Business to Business market has shown significant growth. To answer
any predetermined questions, we will discuss important impacts of information
asymmetry in business. Information Asymmetry can be described as one side of
a transaction having more knowledge of the product than the other. This could go
both ways. The consumer may know more or the seller may know more. For
instance, in the 70 s, the seller had a huge advantage over the consumer. Because
of this, consumers were making purchase decisions that were very high in price. It
was harder for the consumer to bargain prices back then because there was no way
of knowing whether or not you were getting a good deal or being fed false
information. Jumping back to today s world, if a consumer is not sure whether or not
they are getting a good deal or not, they may look up prices for the same product sold
by a different merchant. Asymmetric information has a huge impact on decisions
people make about where to purchase a product. But, even though this sounds like it
only hurts the merchant, there is an advantage for the merchant. In today s world we
can obtain information from the customers.
27. Inner Conflicts In Bless Me Ultima By Rudolfo Anaya
The moon, wind, and ocean shape and sculpt the earth. The moon gives the tides, and
lights the earth at night. The wind molds the landscape of the earth, carrying dust,
seed, and storm. The ocean erodes the earth, making sand where dirt and water meet.
These different forces of nature make the earth what it is. In the novel Bless Me
Ultima by Rudolfo Anaya, Maria and Gabriel make Antonio who he is, playing
essential roles in his development as a person. Maria and Gabriel give Antonio inner
conflicts that are resolved by Ultima and Gabriel.
Gabriel and Maria s clashing aspirations create inner conflict in Antonio. Gabriel is
firmly opposed to Maria s dream for Antonio. Maria adamantly wants Antonio to
become a Luna priest who rules over a farmer community, and makes it abundantly
clear what her expectations of Antonio are. However, ... Show more content on

She guides Antonio through his concerns and gives him advice on how to grow
up. Antonio has also expressed a fear of growing up, as he was told that growing
up is a sin. Ultima teaches him that growing up isn t bad, as growth is change (245)
and change is good. She serves as clarity, support, and a source of wisdom to
Antonio. She helps Antonio cope with his uncertainties. Ultima teaches Antonio to
be independent and make his own decisions. One of Antonio s inner conflicts is
created by the choice he has to make between Gabriel and Maria. Ultima tells
Antonio to not trouble [himself] (41) with this choice, as he will have plenty of
time to find [himself] and the solution (41). This approach contrasts wildly with
Gabriel and Maria s, who often remind Antonio of their respective expectations.
While Maria and Gabriel s beliefs and aspirations affect Antonio s, Ultima says that
she cannot tell [him] what to believe (119), and that as he grows up, he needs to
make his own beliefs. Ultima encourages Antonio to make his own future instead of
pushing one on

Celie Being a black female in the south during the early 1900 s, at a time when
white and blacks were socially segregated and women were absolutely inferior to
men, was one of the many challenges Celie would be faced with in her lifetime.
Born in 1895, Celie was raised on a farm in a small town in Georgia where formal
education took a back seat to physical labor and household maintenance, and the
Church was the main focal point of socialization among local town members. We are
first introduced to Celie in 1909, when she is 14 years old, running and frolicking
through the fields with her sister Nettie, then giving birth to her second child by her
step father. Soon after the newborn was taken out of her arms, an emotionless and...

To consider the influence of legislation in relation to social care, the case of Mary

used. Within social work, law is very important as it is used to provide guidance and
duties for the local authorities and professionals in how to proceed with a case.

significant care needs. She is often confused by her surroundings, she needs

There are many things that must be taken into account when making these
decisions. Considerations must be taken of the wishes and feelings of the service
user, any beliefs or values that the service user may hold; such as Marys religious
beliefs and also the information given by carers or family that know the service
user well (Brammer; 2010, 483). In this case the decision made is for her to go to a
residential home that is nearer to her daughter so that she is able to see her
regularly; this is a catholic home which would suit Mary s religious beliefs.
For a carer or professional to decide whether or not someone who lacks capacity
should go into a residential home, the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS),
is used to ensure that this decision is lawful. This is introduced in the MCA 2005
and in this case Mary is unable to make reasonable decisions regarding her welfare
due to her lack of capacity (Johns, 2009, 35 36). However, the decision to place
Mary in a residential home is depriving her of her liberty which is a basic human
right, as stated in the Human Rights Act 1989. The DoLS legislation allows carers
and/or professionals to be able to act to ensure that a care home or hospital only
restricts someone s liberty safely and correctly, and that this is done when there is no
other way to take care of that

Question 1: Effects of Cash Reserve Ratio Reduction on Inflation, Money Supply,
Employment Rates and Gross Domestic Product
Regulators of financial matters and performance in a given country or region are
often faced with the difficult task of ensuring that the performance of the economy is
always positive. This is because the economy of a country directly influences the
standard of living in the country through factors such as employment and the overall
prices of commodities in the country. to effectively control, the performance of the
economy, regulators make use of various tools that are at their disposal.
Controlling the financial instruments in the country presents regulators with the best
of options in determining the economic performance. During difficult times when a
region might be experiencing various challenges financially, the government through
regulatory bodies can opt to employ the various ways of controlling the financial
instruments in the country. Controlling the levels of cash reserve ratio presents
regulatory bodies with a viable option depending on the end desires of the
government. The term cash reserve ratio is used in describing the amounts that
regulatory bodies stipulate for lending outlets to keep as a reserve and deposit.
Essentially, money or funds that are kept as reserve by the lending outlets such as
banks are not supposed to be used in the provision of short term or long term credit

One would think that juvenile offenders are different from adult prisoners, but most
are not. There are however, some unique issues that juvenile offenders face within the
criminal justice system. One issue is juveniles and the death penalty. Some states
allow the death penalty for juveniles, but in 2005 the Supreme Court deemed this
practice unconstitutional. Significant questions were raised concerning the
development of juvenile s human brain and the maturity level of juveniles and capital
punishment. The Supreme Court stated in a five to four decision that juveniles
younger than 18 at the time of their offense could not be executed. The justices also
stated that executing juveniles was a violation of the cruel and unusual clause of the

34. St. Augustine Accepts Platonic Concept Essay
St. Augustine was a Christian Platonist. He Christianizes many of Plato s Greek
concepts. In Confessions, St. Augustine used many Neo plationic terms and ideas
but in Book VII is when he finally has a revelation about the similarities of
Philosophy and Christianity. In class, we have discussed a number of ways in which
St. Augustine accepts the ideas of Plato; one of those being the theory of forms. Plato
s theory of forms describes the divine to be in the invisible, perfect, intangible world.
St. Augustine believed that Plato s theory of the forms was compatible with his
Christian beliefs because of a vision he had while trying to picture God.

The Neoplatonists believed in the idea of God, who is the creator of but they mention
nothing about the idea that Christ dwells with us in the flesh. Augustine also makes
two other criticisms of Neoplatonism. He is upset at the fact that the Neoplatonists do
not give praise to God, and he says that it is tainted by their polytheist tendencies in
their writings. He would, however, receive a revelation through God that withheld
with the philosophical concept of the Theory of the Forms. These problems did
not withstand his interest in St. Augustine s new reading. St. Augustine couldn t
rap his head around the idea of something that was not made of matter (taking up
space) existing. So he tried to see God in a physical sense. He had no conception of
spiritual substance. Trying to picture God as a secret breath of life when he
shouldn t of been trying to picture Him at all. In Chapter 17 of book VII, St
Augustine described how he had this vision of God. He did not physically see the
God, but he saw the invisible things, understood by the things which are made He
experienced this world of being that Plato talks about without seeing with the
physical eye. It was an encounter with God. This encounter took place in the
existence that Plato calls the World of Being. St. Augustine spoke about the two
different worlds and how one was pure

It is also important to recognize how many low income families are unable to escape
poverty due to the lack of protection from the hidden implicit fees or poverty taxes
that burden those struggling financially. Many of these costs stem from the practices
of payday lenders who capitalize on the impoverished and their inability to procure
loans from traditional banks. When needy individuals possess poor credit scores or
lack ample savings, their inadequate financial histories prevent them from taking out
loans from conventional banking institutions. Consequently, when a situation arises

Beginning in 1996, the Clinton administration implemented a grand bargain that
stated that any person who fails to actively search for employment on a regular basis
will no longer receive government aid. The ambiguous framework of this reform
ultimately allowed states to set welfare regulations based on their own personal
agenda, rather than their originally intended purposes. Since the passage of this
legislation, currently only 27% of Americans who qualify for welfare assistance end
up receiving the monetary aid that they deserve, leading to over 4 million
unemployed individuals currently struggling without benefits. Across states
however, this welfare gap varies quite distinctly. Georgia, most notably, is extremely
strict when distributing aid, taking advantage of the flexible framework to create a
system where only a limited few are able to qualify for financial aid. To procure
eligibility, Georgian citizens must attend an excessively large number of job searches,
regardless of their access to means of transportation, to prove their intent on finding
employment. As a result, many of the federal funds distributed to the Georgian state
government for welfare programs are diverted instead towards issues such as
improving the foster care system or education, rather than to their
36. The Impact Of Sports On Sports And Leisure Activities
Section A Introduction Despite it being 2015, there are still many ongoing barriers
which are preventing many people of all ages, races, genders and social
backgrounds from participating in sports and leisure activities. Economically,
some sports are just completely unviable to people from certain backgrounds.
Sports such as Polo are completely exclusive to a certain class of people, due to the
mass expenses required to get you started. Inner city families, some of whom may
have a member of the household unemployed would never be able to foot the cost
of the bills to play Polo. Along with the unfeasibility of the costs of certain sports,
people are also being excluded from sport due to the social side of the spectrum.
Many sports are perceived as having gender ties and many children are brought up
to identify that a certain sport shouldn t be played by boys as it is a girls sport and
vice versa. This leads to a massive social stigma that is developed during the
formative years of schooling that influences children s decisions on what sports
they decide to play. It can also be tied into many cases of Homophobia in schools,
where many homophobic slurs may be attached to a girl who enjoys rugby, or a boy
who enjoys gymnastics. Due to the low number of combination between the sexes in
many sports as children, this leads to a deficiency of integration as adults, therefore
making it more difficult to get involved in a sport as an adult, due to the sport being
either male

The most recent George was born Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge on
July 22, 2013 to Prince William of Wales and Duchess Catherine of Cambridge. His
birth placed him third in line to the throne behind his father, Prince William, and
grandfather, Prince Charles . Prince George joined a royal family tree shaken by
Georges, and the new prince s name called back to the Hanoverian times when four
Georges headed the throne successively. This period was one where men of foreign
descent reigned over Britain and, oddly enough, ushered in one of the greatest eras of
British unity and dominance . The Georges maintained the throne from 1714 to 1830;
although some were unorthodox and rude and others stubbornly absolutist, their reign
is revered today as distinguished enough so that the current prince and duchess
imparted the name upon their first born son. An act passed during Queen Anne s
reign, the 1701 Act of Succession, prohibited Catholics from the throne. The next
Protestant heir to the throne, George, Elector of Hanover, was 52nd in line. The
German heir found little celebrity in Britain, except amongst London s Hanover
Square residents in the West End who celebrated the new king s arrival. Because of
his inability to speak English, mainly due to his unwillingness to learn the language,
George I refused to attend Cabinet meetings where he could not understand what was
being discussed. Instead, the obstinate George I selected a specific person whom

The way of the policing part has made a culture particular to that facility. Like any
authoritative society, police society comprises of generally imparted dispositions,
qualities and standards. What separates police society from other authoritative
societies are the strains that begin in the nature s domain. (Paoline, Meyers and

association between police work and an exceptional occupational society . (Chan

Loftus (2010) used the term sociological orthodoxy that tackles about conventional

39. Solving The Cost Of Capital
Companies and investment funds are currently sitting on a lot of money. But before
they start putting this capital into new use, it is important to understand more about
the cost of financing their business through these different investments. In order to do
so, businesses must calculate the cost of capital.
But what is cost of capital and how can companies calculate it? This guide will
answer these important questions and help you understand why cost of capital is
among the most important business formulas you ll need to understand. You ll also
be able to understand the common pitfalls and limitations of calculating this
important figure for your business.
What does the cost of capital mean?
The definition of cost of capital simple means it is the cost of funds the company
uses to fund and finance its operations. The cost of capital is often divided into two
separate modes of financing: debt and equity.
Cost of capital tells the company its hurdle rate. The hurdle rate refers to the
minimum rate of return the company must achieve to be profitable or to generate
value.
Each company has its own cost of capital. Different factors influence the cost of
capital and these include things such as the operating history of the business, its
profitability and credit worthiness.
The figure is one of the most essential parts of a business financing, as it can help the
company to make better funding and investment decisions and thus boost its overall
financial health.

Factual summary
The American Red Cross is a major organization in the United States and around
the world. Clara Barton founded the American chapter in 1881. She was a public
servant who decided to get involved during the civil war by attending to wounded
soldiers and feeding them on the battlefield. Her sense of humanitarian work was
only strengthened by her trip to Europe during the Franco Prussian war, where she
discovered the initiative of Henri Dunant (Reitman, 1996). After the battle of
Solfinero, this Swiss banker was shocked by the carnage of war and decided to
gather doctors and volunteers around the village to help tend to the wounded. This
action motivated him to create a nonpartisan organization that can focus on caring for
people wounded in wars and conflicts regardless of their origin. (Reitman, 1996). The
organization was ratified in the 1864 Geneva Convention by twelve countries and
later by many others. The United States Red Cross was founded due to the efforts of
Barton in Washington (Reitman, 1996). The first chapter of the national American
Red Cross was created in upstate New York. Later, the organization received funding
to create its national headquarters in Washington. Since then, the Red Cross has

the expression of the performer looking down at her. I chose the second piece, Fog

because of the use of light in the painting, and because of the subject matter the
beautiful scenery of the Bay, with a highly populated prison almost just out of
sight behind the fog. I felt that this was a good example of atmospheric perspective
and wanted to expand my understanding of it by studying it. The pieces both relied
on light techniques to make up the composition; Shinn s work heavily utilized
chiaroscuro, and Birk s artwork relied on atmospheric perspective. In contrast with
my last formal analysis, liked both paintings I decided to write about I did this

43. Transition From Childhood To Adulthood Analysis
The transition from childhood to adulthood, for me, took place at an early state. At
the young age of nine years old I began to learn what it took to be my own person.
As I was growing up, I had taught myself to believe that a hectic household of
constant yelling was the norm. My mother had met my stepfather before anyone
had brought up the word divorce . She had a child with this man while still being
married to my father. I didn t find out who s child this was until months after he had
been born. Who is going to break that news to a nine year old boy? From my
experience, I believe I learned so many lessons on growing up. The lessons that have
truly stuck with me though are independence, being less judgmental, and motivation.
I learned that if you want to be successful in life, you are going to have to be self
efficient. Going in between houses constantly taught me that if you want something
you are going to have to do it by yourself one way or the other. With everything
being separated, I would have to make plans accordingly. Such as if there was
something I needed to or wanted to wear, I had to find out where it would be and if
it had been cleaned. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

have shown me by forgiving my mother for her fault that you always need to be
accepting of others and the lifestyle they lead. Always forgive and forget or else you

of the 19th century. Sometimes it is also referred to as Female Gothic. But even
though it is said to be a Female Gothic, there is no heroine or an important female

sometimes considered as the objects of discourse. Margaret Saville who cannot
