trip did not go well. Norman left Neal earlier after Neal refused to fish with him. It
was mainly Neal s fault, but the women blamed Norman and did not let him inside
the tent where it was dry. The mood of this part of the story is playful between the
women and Norman. Maclean has made it clear to the reader that there is no
danger in the situation but that Norman is being punished for Neal s illness.

Children, Marriage and Love are the three main factors of the two short stories, A
Sorrowful Woman by Gail Godwin, and A Secret Sorrow by Karen van der Zee.
