Gilgamesh Essay
Crafting an essay on the topic of "Gilgamesh" can present both challenges and opportunities for
exploration. The difficulty lies in the need to delve into the complex layers of this ancient epic
and its multifaceted characters. The task involves not only a thorough understanding of the
narrative but also the ability to critically analyze the themes, cultural context, and character
developments within the text.
One of the challenges is the limited source material compared to more contemporary works. The
deciphering of ancient Sumerian cuneiform script and piecing together fragments requires
meticulous research skills. Additionally, the interpretive nature of Gilgamesh's character and the
symbolic significance of events in the epic demand a nuanced and thoughtful approach to
analysis.
Furthermore, the essay must navigate the historical and cultural context of Mesopotamia,
exploring how Gilgamesh reflects the values, beliefs, and societal structures of its time. Drawing
connections between the epic and the broader historical context requires a solid grasp of ancient
history and anthropology.
On the other hand, the topic provides an exciting opportunity to explore timeless themes such as
friendship, mortality, and the search for meaning. The essay can unravel the layers of
Gilgamesh's character, from his early arrogance to his eventual wisdom, offering a chance to
engage in philosophical discussions and draw parallels with contemporary issues.
In conclusion, while the topic of a "Gilgamesh Essay" poses challenges due to its ancient origin
and interpretive nature, it also offers a rich tapestry for exploration. Crafting a compelling essay
requires a balance of historical understanding, literary analysis, and critical thinking. As with any
challenging academic task, seeking assistance and guidance can be beneficial.

High School Swimming Pool
Arriving at Thompson Rivers University, we stepped off the bus and looked at the
pool. The stench of chlorine burned our noses as we entered the pool. The interior
design of the sport complex was amazing although it seemed like a jail. The pool
reminded me about the same pool during Frasers swim meet. The vast poolwas filled
with swimmers diving in and climbing out of the lanes. We had a bit of time to rest
before the first event started so we made use of the time to practice. Luckily, the
individual medleys were the first events to start off the 2015 High SchoolSwimming
Provincials swim meet and I didn t have to swim until event 29. I had a few hours
before I had to get changed and swim so I laid back and started to doze off.

Luckily, I was going to be the last one to swim since I was swimming freestyle in
the 100m mixed relay. The referee shouted, On Your Mark....Get Set, and the same
deafening buzz pierced my eardrums. The swimmers dove into the water like
dolphins and swam towards the other side and back like mad sharks. As I stepped
up onto the platform, my heartbeat quickened and sweat dripped down from my
head as I got ready to jump just as my teammate slammed into the wall. Bending
my knees and pushing off to gain as much power as I could get, I splashed into the
cold and freezing water that I haven t touched in hours. My arms would not slow
down take a rest. Constantly, my head spun from side to side so I could glare at
the swimmers beside me who were trying so hard to pass me. Speeding towards the
other side, I pulled my legs in and did a flip turn. Unfortunately, water rushed into
my nose as I forcefully pushed off the wall. The two swimmers beside me were just
a few inches in front of me! My legs quickened its movement to boost myself to
catch up to those two. However, instead of speeding up, I slowed down and
eventually lost to both of them and ended up getting third in my heat.
When I reached the bleachers, Mr. Tustin was still there. Water drops left my wet
hair like children jumping off diving boards. I was dissatisfied with my time. I had
only achieved a 50m freestyle time of 32 seconds. I had also let my
The Effect Of Solar Flares On Our Future Essay
Possibly the most dramatic event that occurs within our solar system is the solar
flare. Scientists have spent much time studying this solar phenomenon attempting to
learn how to predict them. This in turn has caused a significant increase in
understanding the anatomy of solar flares to include the phases of flares and what
they emit. Bringing things closer to Earth, the emissions of solar flares can have a
significant impact in today s technological world. By far, the largest impact of solar
flares to our technology is radio blackouts. The emissions of solar flares cause
scintillation to occur in the ionosphereeffectively blocking long distance
transmissions. Solar flares are excessively bright and powerful and so deserve our
attention not only from a scientific standpoint, but a societal standpoint as we rely
more and more on our technology.
Currently, scientists do not fully understand why and how solar flares occur.
However, they have and continue to perform research into how the Sun creates solar
flares. As scientists understood it now, solar flares occur in relation to the magnetic
fields of the Sun.1 These magnetic fields continuously shift and twist around. They
believe the movement of the magnetic fields causes a buildup of energy which results
in a solar flare, but scientists have not been able to sufficiently explain how the
mechanism works.2
Our lack of understanding solar flare physics makes predicting a solar flare tricky so
we must rely on past observations.
Outline Of Recommendation For Change
3.1 Overview of Recommendation for Change As mentioned throughout the
previous section, Target has a very comprehensive CSR program that covers most
areas under this field. Because of this, there is little for the company to do in
regards to starting any new divisions within their CSR efforts; therefore, I believe
it would be most beneficial to fine tune some of its programs to align with the
company s customer base more closely. Additionally, I believe some of Target s
current CSR efforts are rather broad and the company could benefit by really
specializing within some of the areas and establishing goals moving forward.
Finally, although Target seems to emphasize its dedication to supporting the
community and collaborating with other organization, there seems to be a
disconnect between this and some of the company s actions. 3.2 Aligning Company
s CSR Efforts with Customer Base Target recently released its third quarter
financial statements for 2016, where the company recorded a 11% increase in EPS
over last year. CEO Brian Cornell credited much of this growth to its strong back to
school shopping sales. He went on to say that Target has invested much effort in
differentiating themselves from other competitors like Walmart by offering a more
family focused selection, particularly with children s apparel and educational toys.
While it seems that this strategy is currently paying off for Target from its recent
financial results, I believe Target could benefit even more
Is John A Coward Research Paper
In my opinion, John is a coward. Some may say he is not a coward, but to me he
is. He has had many chances to ask certain questions he has for Owen, but he never
asked them. There are people out there that will hold in their thoughts, opinions,
and even questions. I guess they think what they have to say is silly or people will
judge them for saying something or feeling a certain way. John has a good handful
or two of questions or thoughts he keeps to himself, making me envision him as a
coward. If John and Owen are as close as stated; he shouldn t be scared of what he
thinks of him. Ever had a very close best friend that understands the stuff you like or
accepts the way you think? Yes? No? Well in this case; John has Owen, but he seems

Rene Descartes And Blaise Pascal
Rene Descartes and Blaise Pascal were philosophers with a common goal bringing
others to the truth of the existence of God. They both had a desire to help others
scale the heights of religion, using the path of reason, and bring them to the other
side with a firm perception and knowledge of the reality of, not just a god, but the
one, true God. Though their goal and method was similar, that of using doubt as a
vehicle to traverse the oppositional arguments of unbelievers, they arrive at different
ends of logical belief. In this essay I will seek to analyze each philosopher s method
and conclusion and determine its implications for the concept of Idealism.
The philosophy of Idealism is a system of thought that, in a nut shell, claims that
knowledge and reason are dependent upon the mind. This idea is in contradiction to
Descartes and Pascal s belief in dualism. The concept of dualism sets a distinction
between mind and body, whereas idealism believes they are one and the same, that
thought is a direct consequence of the mind/body system.
In his book, Meditations, Rene Descartes covers this idea beginning with doubt and
stripping away all elements of the physical world. He begins by stripping the doubter,
himself, of all possible influences. Eliminating prompts and effects, Descartes begins
to understand this doubt that he has based upon the realities he is still left with that
despite the absence of any sensory input, he is still thinking and therefore, he knows

My Experience In College Students, Being A College Student
Being a college student who is taking 18 credits this semester as well as working 15
hours a week, I experience multiple stressors every week that I try my best to deal
with. Two stressors I have dealt with the past two weeks are struggling to manage my
time and arguing with my boyfriend. The past two weeks I had a lot of assignments
due as well as a major test and a quiz. I realized it was a stressor when I got assigned
our extra credit paper that was due the day before my major exam. I was already
thinking of how I was going to spend the rest of the week and the weekendto study
for my exam and quiz, prepare for my presentation, keep up with the chapters my
classes are reviewing, and work. When we got assigned the extracredit paper, I
panicked a little and realized trying to figure out how to fit all of it into my
schedule was a stressor. I noticed that my heart rate slightly increased from
panicking a little and I got antsy, as in I could not sit still. I have confronted
managing my time before, when I first got my job this semester. Like I said, I am
taking 18 credits, so adding working 15 hours a week took away a lot of study time
that I had to figure out how to make up. It actually cuts into my social life a decent
amount, but I live with all of my closest friends and study with them, so I see them
a decent amount. What I typically do when I freak out about how much stuff I have
to do and how little time I have, I start to plan out my days by hour in my planner. I
History Of Swimming During The Olympic Games
HISTORY OF SWIMMING IN THE OLYMPIC GAMES
According to the Oxford dictionary, the act of swimming is to propel one s body
through water by using the limbs or other bodily movement . Using this form to
propel through water is now so technical and refined that it is classed as an
individual or team sport as well as a recreational activity. One of the most popular
sports of the Olympic Games today is swimming highlighting events in different
strokes like the butterfly, backstroke, freestyle and breaststroke. Competition is
conducted both in a purpose built swimming pool as well as the open water.
Olympic swimming is one of the most watched and oldest events, competitors from

Not only paintings have been found but also written evidence referencing
swimming. The first ever book of swimming was written by a German professor of
languages, Nikolaus Wynmann in 1538 called The Swimming or A Dialogue on the
Act of Swimming .
The country that was first to take part in swimming both as a competitive sporting
activity and as a recreation was England in the early 18th century. The competitions
with time gained popularity leading to the first indoor swimming pool opening for
the public in 1828, at the St George Baths, London and operated by the National
Swimming Society. Improvements made towards swimming as a sport led to
numerous swimming organizations such as Amateur Swimming Association of Great
Britain with as many as 300 regional clubs operating throughout England. By 1882
other European countries had also established swimming federations with the first
European amateur swimming competitions in 1889.
The style of swimming or stroke that was majorly used was the breaststroke
until1844 where two Native American participants introduced the front crawl. Then
in 1873 after winning a local competition, Sir John Arthur Trudgen debuted a new
hand over stroke freestyle, which is still considered today as the most powerful
strokes of all swimming styles.
The first women s swimming championship was held in Scotland in 1892 but wasn t
introduced to the Olympic Games until 1912. Men s
Fate Of Juliet In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
Romeo and Juliet is a tragic story between two young lovers. But, what if it the
ending could have been changed? These two individuals love was doomed by the
people closest to them. They were robbed of their true love by a feud between two
families and the ignorance of the ones they had trusted most. The deaths of Romeo
and his love, Juliet, was not their fault. The mistakes of the foolish adults around
them caused death to claim their lives.
Death had claimed the lives of two individuals that loved each other deeply. If not
for how the Nurse acted, they could have been able to live a full and long life
together. The Nurse informs Juliet about who Romeo is and that he is indeed a
Montague. If the Nurse had told Juliet that he was a Montague ... Show more content

Friar. The one man that held the outcome of the two beloveds. Friar, being the
talented man that he was, provided Juliet with a plan. They would deceive the
parents, nurse, and Paris with a fake death. The plan was all made by the Friar. He
did not think about the possible consequences that the plan could bring. If he
would have thought through the plan, and informed Romeo before it happened,
there could have been a different outcome. The scheme the Friar came up with was
using a poison that would make Juliet go into a death like state. Her body would
grow cold, pale, stiff, and non breathing. Then, when found, she would be thought
dead. After she would be laid in the tomb, she would wait for Romeo. Romeo
would be sent a letter that informed him of all of this. The only problem is that
Romeo would have received the letter far too late. Finally, when Juliet needed
saving from killing herself, the Friar was not there to stop her. He had abandoned
her with a sharp dagger that was open for all eyes to see. He wasn t being intelligent
in that moment. If he would have stayed and taken responsibility for his actions,

Mental Health Counseling Essay
The counseling field is ever growing with many employment opportunities, but yet it
is very competitive. Mental health counseling is one of the specializations in the
counseling field. The American Mental Health Counselors Association stated that
mental health counselors are highly skilled professionals who provide flexible,
consumer oriented therapy (2016). Mental healthcounselors offer a wide range of
services, such as: assessment and diagnosis, psychotherapy, treatment planning and
utilization review, brief and solution focused therapy, alcoholism and substance abuse
treatment, psychoeducational and prevention programs and crisis Management
(American Mental Health Counselors Association, 2016). This paper will discuss the
historical background of mental health counseling, mental health counseling services
available for adolescents, ethical requirements of the American Counseling
Association and legal requirements in the state of South Carolina and the different
professional organizations.
Historical Background
The population that has my interest is adolescents. Many adults tend to believe that
children do not encounter stressful situations or deal with mental illness. In reality,
everyone deals with a different amount of stress and or mental illness. For instance,
an adult may encounter stress from their workload at the job, just how adolescents
can experience stress from their school work. I would love to work with adolescents
to give them an opportunity to have
Descriptive Essay On Prairie Kitchen
Established in 1983 Prairie Kitchen has been located at 102 Holiday Drive for 34
years and is a familiar restaurant around the Ardmore area. Prairie Kitchen is a local
restaurant that specializes in southern comfort and country style cooking which
focuses on breakfast, but does offer breakfast and dinner all day and everyday.
As I approached the restaurant I looked up and saw the outdated signs, the logo
looked to be the original logo. The parking lot had no more than ten cars in it at
7:00 A.M, I parked behind the restaurant under a light post and could hear the
buzzing of the light. Walking around the building towards the doors I noticed the
morning dew dripping from the glass as the sun was about to rise. I walked into the
restaurant and the smell of the food rushed from the kitchen directly to the doors. I
was greeted by the host and many other employees, I introduced myself and host
lead me on the tour of the restaurant. I examined my surroundings and noticed the
various western pictures, stars, and other decorations that left the feel of the wild
west. The outer walls were brick, but had been painted white and lined with a wood
trimming. Half walls designed for privacy separated booths, they are wooden and
painted with a color that was identical to murky green lake water. We walked towards
the kitchen, the floor beneath my shoes changed from carpet to a reddish tile.We
turned the corner and discovered a food takeout window and the dishwashing

When I first got back home she was distant. She quit her job with the intentions of

bottles in between the sheets. I could hear them clink against each other whenever
she got up to find more. Occasionally one squirted out and rattled across the
hardwood, followed closely by a large amount of my mother s expletives. She blamed
Abby. She thought Abby had planned it, that she was trying to kill me in order to
bring her mother and Dad back together. Mom felt like I died because I was no
longer who her memory showed. I was the shadow she avoided, the visual
reminder of tortured loss. She was in mourning. The only time I d hear my name
was when she screamed at Abby during a drunken monologue. It s not his eyes. The
sunglasses hide them. It s the burns on his face. My son is ugly. UGLY. You did
this. You bitch, you did this to him. And Abby would sit taking her verbal beating,
never uttering a reply. The only noises I heard were the sobs muffled into a pillow
behind a closed bedroom door. I wasn t mad at Abby. I didn t blame her. I was the
idiot who froze, and the idiot that threw fire onto my face. Abby had saved me with
the hose. But that didn t stop her from constantly apologizing. Whatever Mom was
saying to her seemed to have its desired effect and she felt guilty about the accident.
Everyone else seemed to be having a harder time with the accident than I was. In the
Essay about The 59th Unnamed Cave in Florida
The last article talks about the 59th Unnamed Cave, in Florida. This cave is
located in the eastern part of the Florida Panhandle. From the dates of the artifacts
and the dates of the glyph, the site was occupied in the Late Woodland period. The
cave was discover in 2007 when a group of cave explorer saw fine engravings on
the wall. This site was the first cave art site that was found in Florida and it is the
second rock art site that was found in the states. Rock art is very rare in Florida, but
now with the site found there is a wider perspective on the importance of rock art.
The site did not only include the petroglyph drawing of the past, but it included some
artifacts that was use to help date the time that the cave was occupied.... Show more

One of the way that we can tell is by looking at the weathering of the image. If the
edge of the image is nice and sharp then the engraving is new. If the edges of the
engraving is nice and rounded we can safely say that the engraving have been there
for a while. The main point of this article is to talk about the findings of the 59th
Unnamed Cave in Florida. This cave is interesting because there are very few sites
in Florida. This was only one out of the two sites that had rock art in them that is in
the state of Florida. I really like this article because instead of just talking about
what they see in the petroglyph, the authors actually highlighted the engravings so
that it is easier for the readers to see what they are talking about. The other articles I
have read only talked about the engraving but they did not really highlighted the
engraving which makes it very hard for the reader to see what they were talking
about. Another good point of this article is that they showed a comparison between
the older cave engraving versus the new engraving. By adding this information it help
the reader understand the difference between the two time frame that the engraving
was marked. One of the things that I wished this article would have is the radio carbon
dating section. The other articles I read about all have some type of radio carbon
dating to try to date when the site were occupied. This article only talked about the
ceramic sherds that they
Civilizations of Ancient China and East Asia

The chapters cover the social, philosophical, cultural, governmental and religious
aspects. The chapters offer an insight of how China and Eastern Asian cultures had
developed. It also elaborates on the dynasties that had ruled during this era.
China was isolated from West and South Asia because of the demographics of the
land. The writing system was not influenced by other cultures. They had created a
logographic system of writing. Every word had its own symbol. This writing system
was not only a major part of Chinese literature but also played a large part in the
political process. The Shang Dynasty was the first to have writing, cities, chariots, and

About seven months into a relationship with my girlfriend, we started experiencing
major conflict. We began to have random fights over small things, flipping out
over misunderstandings, we just couldn t seem to get on the same page about
anything. The most disturbing things that bother both of us are time spent
together and conflicts over our past. It s clear that relationship conflict occurs
because expectations aren t being met. Obviously, each person comes into a
relationship with certain expectations that are based on past experiences,
childhood, or how you think things should be. My girlfriend and I have so much
in common, but despite that still have some real struggles over trivial things. Her
biggest problem is me not spending enough of time with her. This is the major
issue, that we had so far. She already graduated and works full time, and I still go to
college and live with parents. On the side, I also work part time, so it s hard to
commit seeing each other that often. The dilemma and miscommunication uprises in
this situation, where she thinks that I don t want to see her at all, rather than I
simply don t have time for it. Often, she tends to hold back during the initial
conflict and take a more strategic, long range position and waits for a trigger to start
a conflict. However, she delivers her concern clear and concise. My weakness is my

The Road to Independence
Throughout the colonial period, relationships between the colonists and the British
Empire continued to deteriorate. Taxation was mostly seen as being harmful for the
American society but on the other hand beneficial to the crown. Tired of not being
considered in matters that were critical to their daily life, colonists decided to prepare
and submit their declaration of Independence to the British Empire. There were 27
remarks pointed out where the King completely ignored Americans rights and votes.
It was not until July 4th, 1776 when Great Britain finally recognized the United States
of America as an independent nation granting the power to the colonists to govern
themselves.

Humanitarian Aid Be Banned
Humanitarian Aid s main purpose is to provide aid to those who suffer from natural
or man made disaster . Some of the humanitarian aid organizations include American
Red Cross, Doctors without Borders, and the Mercy Corps. The number of
humanitarian aid in countries is increasing to around 1 2 million organizations in
India and 277,000 organizations in Russia. Some of the rescue missions that
humanitarian aid attends to are disasters such as Hurricane Havrey or Hurricane
Katrina. Although some look at humanitarian aid as a good and positive outlook,
there have been many incidents where humanitarian aid has been selfish and has
been done wrong. Humanitarian aid should be banned because ...humanitarian aid
did as much or even more harm than good (Gourevitch) by prolonging war, creating
reasons to call for aid, and taking advantage of the profits and donations given to
those companies. Although many say humanitarian aid is civilizing war by
withdrawing injured on the battlefield and removing them from hostilities.
Personally, humanitarian aid does not only help very little during the war, but they
prolong the war to get more money and benefits that they claim to need for the sake
of the people s lives. When the Nigerian civil war began in 1967, humanitarian aids
were there to help, but they did more harm during the war then they ever did good.
The organizations were the reason behind the year and a half extension of this civil
war causing tens of thousands dead, many more

At a recent staff meeting, the general manager of The Times Hotelasked if anyone
wanted to address the group. The director of housekeeping indicated he was at a loss
in trying to work with the front desk clerks. He had repeatedly called the desk clerks
last Tuesday to let them know that general housecleaning would be performed on the
seventh and eighth floors on Wednesday morning and that they should not assign
rooms on those floors to guests on Tuesday night. When the cleaning crew came to
work on Wednesday morning, they were faced with 14 occupied rooms on the ...

Flexibility is the key to hospitality organization. At the operations level, familiarity
with the staff s strengths and weaknesses is essential to meeting the demands of the
situation. When the property experiences an expected slow period, regrouping may
be necessary to maintain full time positions. The front office manager may have to
assist the marketing and sales office in advertising or hosting tour directors for a
specific weekend. The food and beverage director might have to spend some time in
the controller s office completing reports and developing budgets. This
interdepartmental cooperation provides the backdrop for a smooth running
organization. Such flexibility prevents departmental

The Sociology Research Methods Questionnaire
The Sociology Research Methods Questionnaire is an example of a badly designed
survey. You could improve several questions merely by separating them into 2
questions or narrowing the scope of the question. Also the title would lead you to
believe that it had something to do with research methods in sociology, however,
upon reading through the survey you soon realize that if there is an objective to this
survey it is not clear. The order of the questionand answerin some parts of the survey
are not succinct and further add to the confusion created by the lack of subject
matter. Finally there are many questions as that could have been answered by the
research through additional steps. Several of the questions could be rewritten to
gain clarity; however doing so would not eliminate the lack of subject matter for
this survey. Question # 35, which asks about respondent s level of comfort with
homosexuals; the answers offered are long, extensive and cannot be true all the time
for everyone; the answers should be more concise. For example the options could be
as simple as:

Question # 37 which requests responded stance or support of feminism, this first

A Project Management Methodology For Managing Projects
Over the past decades, an ability and capability to organize project management could
determine the success of an organization. Generally, project managers use formal
project management methodology to run projects efficiently. This article describes
the explanation of the differences between PMBOK and PRINCE2, the advantages
and disadvantages of those models, and the example of a project which use PMBOK
methodology.
The differences between PMBOK and PRINCE2
PMBOK stands for Project Management Body of Knowledge. PMBOK Guide is a
book which explains standard guidelines for managing projects. It clearly defines a
project management, the life cycle of project management and the related processes.
PRINCE is an acronym for Projects in Controlled Environments. It is a project
management methodology with an intension to cover all types of projects. It
develop for and extensively used by the United Kingdom government. PMBOK
provides framework. The project managers could pick and choose the most suitable
concept and then tailor it to the project based on the need of organization. It is very
descriptive since it gives a lot of tool and technique for managing the projects.
Furthermore, this methodology is focused on the activity. It starts from creating
work breakdown structure to define activities and sequence activities. Moreover, it
has actually 5 process groups, 10 knowledge areas and 47 processes.
On the other hand, PRINCE2 provides methodology which highlights what should be

Chase Corporation is a manufacturer that creates numerous different products for the
Industrial Materials segment as well as the Construction Materials segment of the
market. They were founded in 1946 and create their products all over the world.
Chase Corporation is separated into the two operating segments based on how the
goods are manufactured and delivered to their markets (United States Congress,
2017). The Industrial Materials segment of the business specializes in products that
are used in another company s product whereas the Construction Materials segment is
concerned with project oriented product offerings. In the Construction segment, they

Corporation turns over their inventory about 5 times in a fiscal year, lower than
the industry average of about 7. Their days sales outstanding (DSO) rose during
fiscal year 2016 to about 70 days. An increase means that it is taking longer for the
customers to pay the bills, but it was only an increase of about 2 days. Along with
the increase to the DSO it took Chase about 58 days to collect their accounts

year. This was consistent with the previous year. Finally, when assessing the
liquidity of the current assets and liabilities, in regard to whether the current assets
could pay for the current liabilities if need be, I found the current ratio to be 2.03:1,
which is good. This means that for every dollar of current liabilities, there are two
dollars of current assets. Getting more specific, when a quick ratio was run,
comparing the most liquid current assets to the current liabilities, the ratio was
1.69:1. This ratio allows companies to check and see if it can cover the current

Parasomnias in Young Children and Adolescents Ten percent of the American
population has recorded having a sleep parasomnia, most of them being young
children or adolescents. Parasomnias range from very common disorders such as
sleepwalking, to a few some may have never heard of, for instance: sleep paralysis.
Sleep parasomnias are disorders characterized by abnormal or unusual behavior of
the nervous system during that occur during non rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep
or rapid eye movement (REM) sleep (Parasomnias). NREM sleep (also referred to as
slow wave sleep) contains more common parasomnias that involve the stimulation of
the autonomic nervous system, motor system, or cognitive processes. Sleep disorders
most commonly present in children and young adults but tend to resolve as the
patient ages. Sleep parasomnias affect the daily behavior and lifestyle of young
children and adolescents by altering their learning environment, stiffening the home
life, and modifying their overall mood.
Parasomnias can occur at any point during the sleep cycle, if one experiences this
while falling asleep they may encounter disturbing hallucinations or sleep paralysis
(Sleep and Parasomnias). Hallucinations may also occur as the person is waking up
from a deep slumber. Sleep paralysis is when the body is incapable of moving even
though that person is conscious and aware of what is happening. If the person is

Canada is considered a world leader in energy production and the role that energy
and power play in the Canadian and global economy is vastly important. At the
present time the global energy industry is in the process of a significant world wide
restructuring and the environment in Canada is at the forefront of this change. The
energy system in Canada is involved in many facets of Canadian life including

National Literacy Crusade Coordinator, And Valerie Miller...
Fernando Cardenal, serving as the National Literacy Crusade Coordinator, and
Valerie Miller, a CNA advisor, outlined that the literacy campaign would not just
eradicate illiteracy, but create an identity of a new man [and a] new woman for
Nicaraguans. Through the CNA, the Sandinistas hoped to introduce young
Nicaraguans to the difficulties and hardship endured by Nicaraguas poor rural
population. For many of the brigadistas who volunteered, the 1980 literacy campaign
served as their first experience with the other side of Nicaragua s population, a side
that remained unseen and not thought of by many under the Somoza regime. The life
that brigadistas lived in during the CNA significantly altered their perspectives on
society, both politically and culturally. The Sandinistas did in fact succeed at
redefining the concept of the Nicaraguan experience for its youth.
The Nicaraguan volunteers in the National Literacy Crusade developed a sense of
new nationalism for Nicaragua defined by their experiences with the illiterate
Nicaraguan population. The accounts of this change is most evident from the
experiences of brigadistas working in the Nicaragua s poor rural regions. Brigadistas,
the majority of whom came from urban middle class backgrounds, gained an
appreciation for the rural farmers and laborers. The testaments and personal accounts
of brigadistas provide insight on the impact of their time with the long
disenfranchised citizens of Nicaragua. Several factors

North Cypress Medical Center continues to strive to be one of the most respected

The Importance Of Freedom Of Expression
We live in an ever changing world where media is growing day by day. Rules must
change to agree with the ever changing media and the effects of it. With all this
comes the question of how far and how much should media be regulated without
neglecting them of their rights. Some would say that the government has put too
much regulationon the media while others may think that media needs more
regulation. We must also acknowledge the Citizens freedom of expression and what
the people can do with those rights. In this paper, I will talk about Our Right to

and the yes and no s.

In other countries, regulation on media is heavier than here in America. Over the
years, the FCC has loosened their ties on regulation. Newspaper and magazines are
not regulated that much and have much freedom to do what they please. While other
media outlets like Radio and Television Stations need license, and are regulated
heavier than the others (Bose, Dilulio, Wilson, pgs. 306 307) With all this regulation
on Radio and T.V, and debates with reporters and their freedom of expression,
citizens wonder if the internet/media world has freedom of expression.
Court Cases
In recent years as media grows bigger and more people depend on it. It arises the
questions like what is allowed on the internet? For example, we all know that content
that is not decent for minors is not allowed on certain websites and other media
spectrums; And that it is illegal to send indecent material to minors. This concept is
present in cases of the American Library Association v. U.S. Department of Justice
and Reno v. American Civil Liberties Union, and Mainstream Loudoun, et al. v. Board
of Trustees of the Loudoun County Library.
These cases can be seen as a violation of our freedom of expressions, but these
regulations can be also seen as something good because they protect the children.
Other court cases have won with their freedom of speech/expression rights. Court

The Crossroad Of Christian Sin Versus Moral Vice
The Crossroad of Christian Sin Versus Moral Vice One is not wicked solely on the
basis that they perform wicked acts, just as one who sins is not always a sinner.
Sin covers a wide range of behaviors; but if these behaviors become habits are they
still sins? Augustine seemed to believe that sins, whether small or large, are
committed when man turns away from God. Similar to sin, Aristotle frequented the
discussion on vice, a state of excess or deficiency, with virtue being the middle
ground. As he said, We assume, then, that virtue is the sort of state that does the best
actions concerning pleasures and pains, and that vice is the contrary state (Irwin, p.
21, lines 28 29). He taught moral vice as different from vice, and having a direct
correlation with incontinence. A type of incontinence is the exorbitant desire for
bodily pleasures, such as sex. This form of incontinence is explored by Dante in
Infernoand Purgatorio, Chaucer in Canterbury Tales, and Augustine in his
Confessions in the form of lust, a topic that will be later expanded on. Incontinence is
a lack of self control, something man either has a predisposing for or not; to be
incontinent is not a choice. This is where the disparity and intersection between
moral vice and the Christian sin present themselves. Through the works and teachings
of Aristotle, Plato, Augustine, Dante Alighieri, and Geoffrey Chaucer the definitions
and acts of both Christian sin and moral vice are explored in an attempt to
Botticelli s Influence On The Renaissance
I was assigned Botticelli, one of the great masters from the Early Renaissance.
Botticelli was known for his highly realistic, especially for the time, religious
paintings and being a member of the Golden Age art movement in the 15th century.
He utilized a style known as Gothic Realism where flight of fancies and interpretation
were not taken on the works of art, but rather accurately depicting scenes with
realistic surroundings and figures were what was optimal to translate to the viewers.
It could be said that the study of the antiques that Botticelli did that influenced his
work, influenced the whole Renaissanceperiod as we saw much more evidence of
realism taking a role into paintings, sculptures, etc. Unlike many masters, which he

These were just a few of his pagan paintings before the Bonfire of the Vanities
where he began focusing on Christian paintings. I wanted to depict another pagan
myth, the story of Persephone the Queen of the Underworld, as this was the
subject matter I enjoyed most from Botticelli. Originally I wanted to depict the
anatomy of a goddess by creating an incision in Persephone s stomach revealing an
avocado inside, originally a pomegranate to stay in theme of the myth, as she stood
posed naked that was common in older paintings of naked god like figures. I chose
to work in pastels for this project as it most closely resembled tempra, both being
oil based. I began by emulating his style by prepping the work with an
underdrawing and painting to get the finer details, such as the hyper realistic
flowing hair that was common to his paintings of women, as well as making the
whole background pure black which was similar to his portrait paintings. After that
was complete I began laying down another layer of detailing with different vibrant
colors that I saw in his paintings such as orange, yellow, and pink. Finally I laid
down the thin base layer for the skin and hair and began smudging everything with
tissue and q tips to get the softer look that was common to his paintings. Ultimately I

The Theory Of The Constructivist Theory
1)Constructivism is a form of learning which is driven by the theory that humans are
able to generate knowledge from the interaction between their experiences and their
ideas(1). This makes the student actively involved in the process of synthesising
meaning and knowledge. It is argued that the constructivist approach inculcates
critical thinking from the extrapolation of the student s prior knowledgeand actively
engaging the student in this way is much more effective than passive learningthrough
acquiring knowledge in a lecture(2) Also, this form of learning can be done in a
collaboration of students(3) Below are discussed some of the main types of
constructivist theories. One of the principle theoretical constructs used in medical
educationis known as Problem Based learning (PBL). This form of learning starts
with an educator forms and presents a number of carefully constructed problems to a
small group of students(4). The problems presented here are typically based on
events of which the students have some prior knowledge of. This prior knowledge is
discussed within the class and from this, questions are asked related to the problems
presented. Following this, time is granted in which the students go away to conduct
individual research on the new information which they have acquired. The students
then return to their class, in which they spend one to

Fundamentals of Database Management Systems.
What is Database Management System?
Today, Database management systems play a main role in management, data
transportation, administrative and control systems. A database management system
(DBMS) is system software for creating, managing databases. A database
management system creates a systematic way for programs, apps and users to create,
retrieve, delete, update and manage data. DBMS ensure that data is consistently
organized and remains easily accessible. As a normal person we access to database

EDGAR CODD thought of a way to make things a bit easier. He wrote a paper A
Relational Model of Data for Large Shared Data Banks. This concept becomes
relational DBMS.
Advantages of a DBMS
There are so many advantages of using DBMS. The biggest advantage is DBMS
lets end users and application programmers access and use the same data while
managing data integrity. And data is better maintained and protected. Data can be
shared using a DBMS instead of creating new iterations of the same data stored in
new files for every new application. A central storage of data provides by a DBMS
that can be accessed by multiple users in same time in a controlled manner.
Central storage and management of data within the DBMS provides:
Data security. (DBMS provides high security. Anyone cannot access data without root

The Ancient Inventions Of The Future
The Ancient inventions of the future Socrates was one of the greatest philosophers
of the ancient world. His teachings inspired young philosophers to go and explore
the world. In addition, His Knowledge even influenced boundless minds like Plato,
who help make gigantic pushes in geometry. Or Aristotle, who mad giant leaps in
astronomy (also made a theory that the earth was round in about 384 B. C.).
therefore, a new era of philosophy was inaugurated and the course of western
civilization was decisively shaped. Modern mathematics, Medicine, and cartography
was all modernized during this age of philosophy. Without the Greeks, present ideals
and the way we live our life would not be the same. So it is important that we know
what the Greeks invented and their power over our civilization.
First of all, the use the same form of democracy that we use in America. They
decided that a dictator would have too much control and power. So they got a
cabinet of over 500 people for democratic voting. They voted on taxes all the way
up to executions. It worked a lot like our jury system, with people randomly chosen
to serve. As it was said by Scott J. Cooper; Demokratia, Greek for power of the
people, was born in Athens in the 7th century BC. As the city state s oligarchy
exploited citizens and created economic, political and social problems, Athenians
were inspired by the successful, semi democratic model Sparta had adopted. They
turned to lawmaker Solon, who tried to help the

Chapter One Of Jim Murphy s An American Plague
Chapter One of of Jim Murphy s book, An American Plague, opens with the quote,
About this time, this destroying scourge, the malignant fever, crept in among us
(Murphy 1). This quote is accredited to Mathew Carey in November, 1793. The
term scourge is defined as, a person or thing that cause great trouble of suffering,
and the term malignant is defined as, tending to produce death or deterioration.
These are very strong terms with extremely negative connotative meanings. The
figurative language which is evident in the quote at the opening of Chapter One is
personification. Carey s quote give yellow fever an eerie, human like quality when
he writes, the destroying scourge, the malignant fever, CREPT in among us
(Murphy 1). CArey s word choices and use of personification help to create a
powerful image in the reader s mind of the threat looming over the city of
Philadelphia. Murphy uses powerful sensory language that draws on the reader s
senses of sight, smell, and hearing. Three examples of visual details include: The
sun came up, as it had every day since the end of May, bright hot, and unrelenting
(Murphy 1). The swamps and marshes south of Philadelphia had already lost a
great deal of water to the intense, heat, while the Delaware and Schuylkill Rivers
had receded to reveal long stretches` of their muddy, root choked banks (Murphy 1).
Finally, a third example is, when Murphy writes, deep holes were dug at various

Summary Of The Escape From Reason By Paul Kurtz
In Paul Kurtz s Fears of the Apocalypse: The Escape from Reason, he explains that
the fixation on apocalypse grows out of fear of the unknown, and it is fed by hope
of redemption (1). Written a year before the new millennium, Kurtz writes about
how different types of doomsday prophecies such as the secular, religious, or New
Age have predicted the world s fate. Although each prophecy has their own tale of
how and when the world will end, they can all agree that the new millennium is the
end for all of mankind. However, these dates have miniscule significance on these
doomsday prophecies. Afterall, time is human creation. Throughout history,
different cultures have used different calendars. For example, the calendar that
everyone is familiar with is the Gregorian calendar, which indicates how many
years it has been since Christ s death. Hence, we are living 2016 years after Christ s
death. But if one were to look back to when the Gregorian calendar was introduced,
10 day seized to exist. If one were to look at the Chinese calendar, the year is
currently 1417 because their system is based off the sun and moon phases.... Show

I agree with this statement because in the past 18 years of my life, I have survived
through dozens of apocalypses. Throughout history, new doomsday prophecies are
always emerging. Kurtz uses the example of the preacher William Miller who
interpreted the Bible s days as years. Miller calculated that the world would in end
1843 and when that failed, he pushed his predictions to another year. Looking back,
I remember hearing how prepared people were for Rapture Day back in 2011. When
the world failed to end, people insisted that a spiritual rapture had occurred instead.
After that, the same scenario happened for the 2012 Doomsday that the Mayan
Calendar had
American Red Cross Mission Statement
The American Red Cross is a nonprofit organization that prevents and alleviates
human suffering in the face of emergencies through six key areas; disaster relief,
lifesaving blood, training and certification, supporting America s military families,
and international services. The American Red Cross has both a mission statement,
which defines their objectives and approach, and also a vision statement, which
defines their vision and future goals. The mission statement of the American Red
Cross reads The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the
face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of
donors. The American Red Cross vision statement reads The American Red Cross,

The most recent version of the charter, which was adopted in May 2007, restates the
traditional purposes of the organization which include giving relief to and serving as
a medium of communication between members of the American armed forces and
their families and providing national and international disaster relief and mitigation.
Prior to the First World War, the Red Cross introduced its first aid, water safety,
and public health nursing programs. With the outbreak of war, the organization
experienced phenomenal growth. The number of local chapters jumped from 107
in 1914 to 3,864 in 1918 and membership grew from 17,000 to over 20 million adult
and 11 million Junior Red Cross members. The public contributed $400 million in
funds and material to support Red Cross programs, including those for American
and Allied forces and civilian refugees. The Red Cross staffed hospitals and
ambulance companies and recruited 20,000 registered nurses to serve the military.
After the war, the Red Cross focused on service to veterans and enhanced their
programs in safety training, accident prevention, home care for the sick, and
nutrition education. They also provided relief for victims of such major disasters as
the Mississippi River floods in 1927 and severe drought and the Depression during
the 1930s. The Second World
How Did Japan Earn Their Economic Miracle
On August 1945, Japan surrendered to the Allies after being atom bombed twice
by the United States. Japan lost a significant number of their population and lost
around a quarter of the country s wealth. Then Japan rose to become one of the
most prosperous country in the world in only a few decades. How did Japan earn
their economic miracle ? After the end of World War II, U.S. occupation in Japan
gave them a good start. Between 1945 and 1952, the U.S. occupying forces, led by
General Douglas A. MacArthur, enacted widespread military, political, economic, and
social reforms. With the United States, the leaders of the Allied powers of Great
Britain, the Soviet Union, and the Republic of China discussed how to disarm Japan,
deal with its colonies (especially Korea and Taiwan), stabilize the Japanese economy,
and prevent the remilitarization of the state in the future.... Show more content on

Japan became a base for the United Nations forces, so the Japanese manufacturers
were used to produce a wide range of materials and supplies. Japan began to do rapid
catch up in the of nineteenth century. According to Hayashi and Prescott, the chief
factor was an acceleration in the reallocation of resources, especially labor, from the
relatively low productivity agricultural sector to the non agricultural sector, which
enjoyed higher productivity and per capita income overall.
Japan s industry that got destroyed in the war allowed them to start fresh and rebuild
their factories with all the latest technology. Japan persisted the desire to catch up
with the West, but after the World War II the efforts were focused on economic and
industrial goals. For example, maching gun factories were converted to make sewing
machines, optical weapons factories turned to produce cameras and binoculars. In
1959, the government decided to concentrate on high technology goods both for the
country market and for
Civil War And The 1960s
A History of Protest Music Revolutionary War to the 1960s Protest music in the
United States dates back to the 19th century. This protest music focused around
subjects that were topical for the time period. Among these topics were the Civil
War. Another topic was slavery, and its abolition. A final topic was women s
suffrage. A famous group of protest singers was the Hutchinson Family Singers.
Their notoriety, which spanned the mid 19th century, began in 1839. Their songs
about abolition were what they were known for. They also sang about the Civil
War, the temperance movement, women s suffrage, and other social reform
movements. They are considered by many to be the precursors to famous 20th
century protest singers songwriters. Negro spirituals is a subgenre of music that
many see as a form of protest music. The focus of the spirituals were slavery and
oppression. Many well known Negro spirituals draw influence from the troubles
other oppressed groups in history faced. During the 20th century, there was protest
music before the Vietnam War. The most common topic was the struggle for fair
wages and working hours for the working class. Also, the attempt to unionize the
American workforce. Another protest music topic was the Great War or World War
I. There were songs protesting war in general. There were also songs that protested
America s involvement in what was considered a European war. A third protest
music topic was the hardships of the 1920s and 1930s, such as the

Gilgamesh Essay.pdf

  • 1. Gilgamesh Essay Crafting an essay on the topic of "Gilgamesh" can present both challenges and opportunities for exploration. The difficulty lies in the need to delve into the complex layers of this ancient epic and its multifaceted characters. The task involves not only a thorough understanding of the narrative but also the ability to critically analyze the themes, cultural context, and character developments within the text. One of the challenges is the limited source material compared to more contemporary works. The deciphering of ancient Sumerian cuneiform script and piecing together fragments requires meticulous research skills. Additionally, the interpretive nature of Gilgamesh's character and the symbolic significance of events in the epic demand a nuanced and thoughtful approach to analysis. Furthermore, the essay must navigate the historical and cultural context of Mesopotamia, exploring how Gilgamesh reflects the values, beliefs, and societal structures of its time. Drawing connections between the epic and the broader historical context requires a solid grasp of ancient history and anthropology. On the other hand, the topic provides an exciting opportunity to explore timeless themes such as friendship, mortality, and the search for meaning. The essay can unravel the layers of Gilgamesh's character, from his early arrogance to his eventual wisdom, offering a chance to engage in philosophical discussions and draw parallels with contemporary issues. In conclusion, while the topic of a "Gilgamesh Essay" poses challenges due to its ancient origin and interpretive nature, it also offers a rich tapestry for exploration. Crafting a compelling essay requires a balance of historical understanding, literary analysis, and critical thinking. As with any challenging academic task, seeking assistance and guidance can be beneficial. If you find yourself in need of support for this or similar essays, you may explore options like HelpWriting.net, where professional assistance can be sought to enhance your academic endeavors. • 2. High School Swimming Pool Arriving at Thompson Rivers University, we stepped off the bus and looked at the pool. The stench of chlorine burned our noses as we entered the pool. The interior design of the sport complex was amazing although it seemed like a jail. The pool reminded me about the same pool during Frasers swim meet. The vast poolwas filled with swimmers diving in and climbing out of the lanes. We had a bit of time to rest before the first event started so we made use of the time to practice. Luckily, the individual medleys were the first events to start off the 2015 High SchoolSwimming Provincials swim meet and I didn t have to swim until event 29. I had a few hours before I had to get changed and swim so I laid back and started to doze off. A deafening ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Luckily, I was going to be the last one to swim since I was swimming freestyle in the 100m mixed relay. The referee shouted, On Your Mark....Get Set, and the same deafening buzz pierced my eardrums. The swimmers dove into the water like dolphins and swam towards the other side and back like mad sharks. As I stepped up onto the platform, my heartbeat quickened and sweat dripped down from my head as I got ready to jump just as my teammate slammed into the wall. Bending my knees and pushing off to gain as much power as I could get, I splashed into the cold and freezing water that I haven t touched in hours. My arms would not slow down take a rest. Constantly, my head spun from side to side so I could glare at the swimmers beside me who were trying so hard to pass me. Speeding towards the other side, I pulled my legs in and did a flip turn. Unfortunately, water rushed into my nose as I forcefully pushed off the wall. The two swimmers beside me were just a few inches in front of me! My legs quickened its movement to boost myself to catch up to those two. However, instead of speeding up, I slowed down and eventually lost to both of them and ended up getting third in my heat. When I reached the bleachers, Mr. Tustin was still there. Water drops left my wet hair like children jumping off diving boards. I was dissatisfied with my time. I had only achieved a 50m freestyle time of 32 seconds. I had also let my
  • 3. The Effect Of Solar Flares On Our Future Essay Possibly the most dramatic event that occurs within our solar system is the solar flare. Scientists have spent much time studying this solar phenomenon attempting to learn how to predict them. This in turn has caused a significant increase in understanding the anatomy of solar flares to include the phases of flares and what they emit. Bringing things closer to Earth, the emissions of solar flares can have a significant impact in today s technological world. By far, the largest impact of solar flares to our technology is radio blackouts. The emissions of solar flares cause scintillation to occur in the ionosphereeffectively blocking long distance transmissions. Solar flares are excessively bright and powerful and so deserve our attention not only from a scientific standpoint, but a societal standpoint as we rely more and more on our technology. Currently, scientists do not fully understand why and how solar flares occur. However, they have and continue to perform research into how the Sun creates solar flares. As scientists understood it now, solar flares occur in relation to the magnetic fields of the Sun.1 These magnetic fields continuously shift and twist around. They believe the movement of the magnetic fields causes a buildup of energy which results in a solar flare, but scientists have not been able to sufficiently explain how the mechanism works.2 Our lack of understanding solar flare physics makes predicting a solar flare tricky so we must rely on past observations.
  • 4. Outline Of Recommendation For Change 3.1 Overview of Recommendation for Change As mentioned throughout the previous section, Target has a very comprehensive CSR program that covers most areas under this field. Because of this, there is little for the company to do in regards to starting any new divisions within their CSR efforts; therefore, I believe it would be most beneficial to fine tune some of its programs to align with the company s customer base more closely. Additionally, I believe some of Target s current CSR efforts are rather broad and the company could benefit by really specializing within some of the areas and establishing goals moving forward. Finally, although Target seems to emphasize its dedication to supporting the community and collaborating with other organization, there seems to be a disconnect between this and some of the company s actions. 3.2 Aligning Company s CSR Efforts with Customer Base Target recently released its third quarter financial statements for 2016, where the company recorded a 11% increase in EPS over last year. CEO Brian Cornell credited much of this growth to its strong back to school shopping sales. He went on to say that Target has invested much effort in differentiating themselves from other competitors like Walmart by offering a more family focused selection, particularly with children s apparel and educational toys. While it seems that this strategy is currently paying off for Target from its recent financial results, I believe Target could benefit even more
  • 5. Is John A Coward Research Paper In my opinion, John is a coward. Some may say he is not a coward, but to me he is. He has had many chances to ask certain questions he has for Owen, but he never asked them. There are people out there that will hold in their thoughts, opinions, and even questions. I guess they think what they have to say is silly or people will judge them for saying something or feeling a certain way. John has a good handful or two of questions or thoughts he keeps to himself, making me envision him as a coward. If John and Owen are as close as stated; he shouldn t be scared of what he thinks of him. Ever had a very close best friend that understands the stuff you like or accepts the way you think? Yes? No? Well in this case; John has Owen, but he seems terrified
  • 6. Rene Descartes And Blaise Pascal Rene Descartes and Blaise Pascal were philosophers with a common goal bringing others to the truth of the existence of God. They both had a desire to help others scale the heights of religion, using the path of reason, and bring them to the other side with a firm perception and knowledge of the reality of, not just a god, but the one, true God. Though their goal and method was similar, that of using doubt as a vehicle to traverse the oppositional arguments of unbelievers, they arrive at different ends of logical belief. In this essay I will seek to analyze each philosopher s method and conclusion and determine its implications for the concept of Idealism. The philosophy of Idealism is a system of thought that, in a nut shell, claims that knowledge and reason are dependent upon the mind. This idea is in contradiction to Descartes and Pascal s belief in dualism. The concept of dualism sets a distinction between mind and body, whereas idealism believes they are one and the same, that thought is a direct consequence of the mind/body system. In his book, Meditations, Rene Descartes covers this idea beginning with doubt and stripping away all elements of the physical world. He begins by stripping the doubter, himself, of all possible influences. Eliminating prompts and effects, Descartes begins to understand this doubt that he has based upon the realities he is still left with that despite the absence of any sensory input, he is still thinking and therefore, he knows he

My Experience In College Students, Being A College Student Being a college student who is taking 18 credits this semester as well as working 15 hours a week, I experience multiple stressors every week that I try my best to deal with. Two stressors I have dealt with the past two weeks are struggling to manage my time and arguing with my boyfriend. The past two weeks I had a lot of assignments due as well as a major test and a quiz. I realized it was a stressor when I got assigned our extra credit paper that was due the day before my major exam. I was already thinking of how I was going to spend the rest of the week and the weekendto study for my exam and quiz, prepare for my presentation, keep up with the chapters my classes are reviewing, and work. When we got assigned the extracredit paper, I panicked a little and realized trying to figure out how to fit all of it into my schedule was a stressor. I noticed that my heart rate slightly increased from panicking a little and I got antsy, as in I could not sit still. I have confronted managing my time before, when I first got my job this semester. Like I said, I am taking 18 credits, so adding working 15 hours a week took away a lot of study time that I had to figure out how to make up. It actually cuts into my social life a decent amount, but I live with all of my closest friends and study with them, so I see them a decent amount. What I typically do when I freak out about how much stuff I have to do and how little time I have, I start to plan out my days by hour in my planner. I

The competitions with time gained popularity leading to the first indoor swimming pool opening for the public in 1828, at the St George Baths, London and operated by the National Swimming Society. Improvements made towards swimming as a sport led to numerous swimming organizations such as Amateur Swimming Association of Great Britain with as many as 300 regional clubs operating throughout England. As I approached the restaurant I looked up and saw the outdated signs, the logo looked to be the original logo. The parking lot had no more than ten cars in it at 7:00 A.M, I parked behind the restaurant under a light post and could hear the buzzing of the light. Walking around the building towards the doors I noticed the morning dew dripping from the glass as the sun was about to rise. This was only one out of the two sites that had rock art in them that is in the state of Florida. I really like this article because instead of just talking about what they see in the petroglyph, the authors actually highlighted the engravings so that it is easier for the readers to see what they are talking about. The other articles I have read only talked about the engraving but they did not really highlighted the engraving which makes it very hard for the reader to see what they were talking about. Another good point of this article is that they showed a comparison between the older cave engraving versus the new engraving. By adding this information it help the reader understand the difference between the two time frame that the engraving was marked. One of the things that I wished this article would have is the radio carbon dating section. The other articles I read about all have some type of radio carbon dating to try to date when the site were occupied. This article only talked about the ceramic sherds that they

Parasomnias range from very common disorders such as sleepwalking, to a few some may have never heard of, for instance: sleep paralysis. Sleep parasomnias are disorders characterized by abnormal or unusual behavior of the nervous system during that occur during non rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep or rapid eye movement (REM) sleep (Parasomnias). NREM sleep (also referred to as slow wave sleep) contains more common parasomnias that involve the stimulation of the autonomic nervous system, motor system, or cognitive processes. Sleep disorders most commonly present in children and young adults but tend to resolve as the patient ages. Sleep parasomnias affect the daily behavior and lifestyle of young children and adolescents by altering their learning environment, stiffening the home life, and modifying their overall mood. Parasomnias can occur at any point during the sleep cycle, if one experiences this while falling asleep they may encounter disturbing hallucinations or sleep paralysis (Sleep and Parasomnias). Hallucinations may also occur as the person is waking up from a deep slumber. Sleep paralysis is when the body is incapable of moving even though that person is conscious and aware of what is happening. If the person is awakened in an abrupt

Fernando Cardenal, serving as the National Literacy Crusade Coordinator, and Valerie Miller, a CNA advisor, outlined that the literacy campaign would not just eradicate illiteracy, but create an identity of a new man [and a] new woman for Nicaraguans. Through the CNA, the Sandinistas hoped to introduce young Nicaraguans to the difficulties and hardship endured by Nicaraguas poor rural population. For many of the brigadistas who volunteered, the 1980 literacy campaign served as their first experience with the other side of Nicaragua s population, a side that remained unseen and not thought of by many under the Somoza regime. The life that brigadistas lived in during the CNA significantly altered their perspectives on society, both politically and culturally. The Sandinistas did in fact succeed at redefining the concept of the Nicaraguan experience for its youth. The Nicaraguan volunteers in the National Literacy Crusade developed a sense of new nationalism for Nicaragua defined by their experiences with the illiterate Nicaraguan population. The accounts of this change is most evident from the experiences of brigadistas working in the Nicaragua s poor rural regions. Brigadistas, the majority of whom came from urban middle class backgrounds, gained an appreciation for the rural farmers and laborers. The testaments and personal accounts of brigadistas provide insight on the impact of their time with the long disenfranchised citizens of Nicaragua. Several factors

The Crossroad Of Christian Sin Versus Moral Vice The Crossroad of Christian Sin Versus Moral Vice One is not wicked solely on the basis that they perform wicked acts, just as one who sins is not always a sinner. Sin covers a wide range of behaviors; but if these behaviors become habits are they still sins? Augustine seemed to believe that sins, whether small or large, are committed when man turns away from God. Similar to sin, Aristotle frequented the discussion on vice, a state of excess or deficiency, with virtue being the middle ground. As he said, We assume, then, that virtue is the sort of state that does the best actions concerning pleasures and pains, and that vice is the contrary state (Irwin, p. 21, lines 28 29). He taught moral vice as different from vice, and having a direct correlation with incontinence. A type of incontinence is the exorbitant desire for bodily pleasures, such as sex. This form of incontinence is explored by Dante in Infernoand Purgatorio, Chaucer in Canterbury Tales, and Augustine in his Confessions in the form of lust, a topic that will be later expanded on. Incontinence is a lack of self control, something man either has a predisposing for or not; to be incontinent is not a choice. This is where the disparity and intersection between moral vice and the Christian sin present themselves. Through the works and teachings of Aristotle, Plato, Augustine, Dante Alighieri, and Geoffrey Chaucer the definitions and acts of both Christian sin and moral vice are explored in an attempt to

I wanted to depict another pagan myth, the story of Persephone the Queen of the Underworld, as this was the subject matter I enjoyed most from Botticelli. Originally I wanted to depict the anatomy of a goddess by creating an incision in Persephone s stomach revealing an avocado inside, originally a pomegranate to stay in theme of the myth, as she stood posed naked that was common in older paintings of naked god like figures. I chose to work in pastels for this project as it most closely resembled tempra, both being oil based. I began by emulating his style by prepping the work with an underdrawing and painting to get the finer details, such as the hyper realistic flowing hair that was common to his paintings of women, as well as making the whole background pure black which was similar to his portrait paintings. After that was complete I began laying down another layer of detailing with different vibrant colors that I saw in his paintings such as orange, yellow, and pink. Finally I laid down the thin base layer for the skin and hair and began smudging everything with tissue and q tips to get the softer look that was common to his paintings. Ultimately I m not particularly proud of this piece but I don t hate

Chapter One Of Jim Murphy s An American Plague Chapter One of of Jim Murphy s book, An American Plague, opens with the quote, About this time, this destroying scourge, the malignant fever, crept in among us (Murphy 1). This quote is accredited to Mathew Carey in November, 1793. The term scourge is defined as, a person or thing that cause great trouble of suffering, and the term malignant is defined as, tending to produce death or deterioration. These are very strong terms with extremely negative connotative meanings. The figurative language which is evident in the quote at the opening of Chapter One is personification. Although each prophecy has their own tale of how and when the world will end, they can all agree that the new millennium is the end for all of mankind. However, these dates have miniscule significance on these doomsday prophecies. Afterall, time is human creation. Throughout history, different cultures have used different calendars. For example, the calendar that everyone is familiar with is the Gregorian calendar, which indicates how many years it has been since Christ s death. Hence, we are living 2016 years after Christ s death. But if one were to look back to when the Gregorian calendar was introduced, 10 day seized to exist.
