Indians in the battle helped his public recognition and increased his popularity in society. In the
election of 1820, Andrew Jackson ran for presidency and won with flying colors. Jackson s humble
background gave him an edge over other candidates he was the voice for the common man and
endorsed the idea of national democracy. His years in office was named the Jacksonian era as he
changed the views and ideas of politics forever. Jackson s supporters called themselves the Jacksonian
democrats and viewed themselves as the guardians of the United States Constitution, political

Summary of the Ballet quot;Giselle quot; Essays
Giselle is a romantic ballet choreographed by Jean Coralli and Jules Perrot. Adolphe Adam beautifully
composes the music. This ballet was originally performed in Paris in 1841. The production that we
viewed in class was from La Salla. Giselle is one of the last ballets of the Romantic era.
The element that stood out the most to me was how effectively the music and the footwork
corresponded. The best examples of this are seen through the dancers solos. Especially Albrecht s
solo, his feet glide on the stage at the same tempo as the music. Similarly, Giselle s graceful footwork

I also enjoyed the mixture of solo dancing in comparison with the peasant dancing in the first act. I
thought the two coincided very well. Additionally, the choreographer, made excellent use of the stage
space. There was a good variation of movement across the stage, without unnecessary distraction.
Furthermore, in Giselle the viewer notices are the difference in costumes, compared with today s more
contemporary ballets. Giselle is dressed as a girl, not like a typical ballerina. The length of her skirt is
very long, but stops short enough for you to allow seeing her footwork. There is also a clear
distinction among the high society and the peasants. When the peasants are dancing, their costumes
are all in the same, more muted color hue, whereas when the high class is dancing or on stage they
have noticeably ornate costumes. This is an important element to this ballet. It also makes this
difference more easily distinguishable to those people who do not know the whole story line behind
Giselle.
There are two more very noticeable elements of Giselle , facial expression, and body movement. The
facial expression throughout both acts is very noticeable. For example, in Act One, you can see by the
