History of Statistics

BSMA 2
HISTORY OF STATISTICS
The history of statistics can be said to start around 1749 although, over time, there have been changes
to the interpretation of the word statistics. By the 18th century, the term statistics designated the
systematic collection ofdemographic and economic data by states. In the early 19th century, the
meaning of statistics broadened to include the discipline concerned with the collection, summary, and
analysis of data. Today statistics is widely employed in government, business, and all the sciences.
Electronic computers have expedited statistical computation, and have allowed statisticians to develop
computer intensive methods. The Word statistics have been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Minority Serving Institutions ( Msis )
Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs) serves to provide a college education for citizens across racial,
ethnic, and socioeconomic differences that were excluded from higher education throughout the
United States History. Minority Serving Institutions work towards producing superior results with
fewer resources while being evaluated using the same accreditation standards as prestigious majority
public and private institutions (Fester, 2012, p. 816). Minority Serving Institutions are represented by
Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs),
Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs), and Asian American, Native American, Pacific Islander Serving

Laws and informal practices were exercised in the 1800s forbidding African Americans to have the
access to reading and writing (Williams, 2007). HBCUs granted the admission of African American
and postsecondary certification when other institutions excluded their participation (Palmer, 2010,
p.767). With 107 HBCUs over 228,000 enrolled (U.S. Department of Education, 1991). African
Americans have increased attending colleges by the 1940s while being funded by the U.S Department
of Education however limited monies supporting HBCUs casted attention away from HBCUs. In
response Fredrick D. Patterson, then president of Tuskegee Institute, suggested private funding efforts.
As a result, in 1944 presidents of 29 private HBCUs created the United Negro College Fund (UNCF).
The UNCF served solely as a fund raising organization but evidently turned its attention on advocacy
and educational roles for African American students (Gasman, 2007). The Higher Education Act of
1965 amended in Title III authorized funds for enhancing HBCUs by strengthening their College and
Universities Program and the Graduate Institutions (U.S. Department of Education, 1991).
AANAPISIs are excluded from broader discourses on equity and social justice thus limiting their
system wide policy considerations at state and national levels (Teranishi, 2010). AANAPSIs are
academically successful however the low rates of college participation and degree

Essay on Fredrick Douglass
After reading the Narrative of the Life of Fredrick Douglass, An American Slave, I have received a
better understanding of the life of a slave. Douglass has a way of explaining the trials and tribulations
of a slave, which makes the reader, look at the situations in a different perspective. Douglass narrative
was originally oral and he eventually sat down and wrote it as story of events of that time during his
life. I believe he wrote it not just to tell his story but for other abolitionists of the time to actually feel
what the slaves went through.
Douglass begins his narrative in a very original way. He does not jump into the accounts of his life.
But he begins very passive and describes the overseers in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Douglass main argument in the narrative was to end the institution of slavery as a whole. His goal was
to appeal to the middle class people of that time and convince them to get on board with the
abolitionist movement. Douglass had a great writing style that was descriptive as well as convincing.
He uses standard English instead of the vernacular which showed his intelligence. He stays away from
expressing personal emotion because someone who is filled with emotion is not rational. If he was too
engaged in his emotions he would not be taken seriously, you had to be rational in order to convince
the northern abolitionists. Also staying away from the horrific details of the time help him grasp the
attention of the women who in turn would convince their husbands to help by donating money and
eventually ending slavery. He used his words effectively in convincing the readers that the slave
owners were inhuman and showed how they had no feelings for other human beings. He also attempts
to portray them as corrupt Christians. The churches at the time were losing their parishioners and their
congregations. If Douglass successfully proved them as corrupt Christians the ministers would also
jump on board for the movement, and their support was a necessity.
I feel as though Douglass had a great argument about the treatment of African Americans at the time
and their

Children Should Spend Watching Television
Animated cartoons, or motion pictures using animated techniques to display sequential drawings, have
been a popular form of entertainment since the early eighteenth century. From the 1920 s to the 1960 s
was a time marked as the golden age of cartooning. Years after that would provide a special time slot
that had kids waiting in anticipation for the weekends, a term known as Saturday Morning Cartoons.
Research conducted within the last decade has concluded that children spend significantly more time
watching television than they do learning in classrooms. The sociological textbook, Sociology the
Essentials, states The average person consumes some form of media sixty nine hours per week more
time than they likely spend in school or at work; thirty three of these hours are spent watching
television (Andersen 42). The majority of targeted adolescent television shows are animated. Although
the statistics may be high, the thirty three hours spent on television could be spent learning instead of
neglecting education. Cartoons are chalk full of lessons on vocabulary, speech, mathematics, and
science. Reaching out to a young demographic during their scholastic career with a comfortable form
of media can be everlastingly beneficial. Ultimately cartoons helpfully assist in the overall
development of adolescence.
Television networks, such as PBS and Nickelodeon, that are directed towards the attention of children
play an essential role in teaching kids about foreign languages. In

Anastrozole Research Paper
Anastrazole stops the multiplication and increasing of estrogen dependence of the mammary glands
cells by the endogenetic estrogens. It is used in treatment for mammary cancer in advanced stages
during the postmenopause, when antiestrogens arent efficient. Arimidex is not a steroid. It is a tablet
form anti aromitase that is used by many body builders to help prevent bloating (edema) and
Gynecomastia (bitch tit) associated with the use of testosterone and androgens. It can be used in place
of Nolvadex ,Clomid, etc. Bodybuilders are using around .25mg to 1mg per day or .5mg to 1mg every
other day and are having good success with it. The FDA approved uses are for the treatment of breast
cancer in post menopausal women with disease progression following tamoxifen therapy.

Anastrozole (Arimidex) is the aromatase inhibitor of choice. The drug is appropriately used when
using substantial amounts of aromatizing steroids, or when one is prone to gynecomastia and using
moderate amounts of such steroids. Arimidex does not have the side effects of aminoglutethimide
(Cytadren) and can achieve a high degree of estrogen blockade, much moreso than Cytadren. It is
possible to reduce estrogen too much with Arimidex, and for this reason blood tests, or less preferably
salivary tests, should be taken after the first week of use to determine if the dosing is correct. As an
aromatase inhibitor, Arimidex s mechanism of action blocking conversion of aromatizable steroids to
estrogen is in contrast to the mechanism of action of anti estrogens such as clomiphene (Clomid) or
tamoxifen (Nolvadex), which block estrogen receptors in some tissues, and activate estrogen receptors
in others. During a cycle, if using Arimidex, there is generally no need to use Clomid as well,

Taxing Multinational Corporations, U.s. And Foreign...
While taxing multinational corporations, the U.S. and other foreign governments have faced many
problems. Treaties and laws were set up to avoid double taxation for these multinational corporations
but instead of avoiding double taxation it delineated a way for tax avoidance. With the old laws, these
multinational corporations were allowed to take a tax advantage. They were allowed to move their
business revenues, which permitted them to go into a lower tax bracket and be taxed at a tax haven .
This allowed them to claim less tax and be more profitable. For example, foreign owned corporations
pay less tax if operating in the U.S. rather than elsewhere and vice versa. This creates a tax advantage
for these corporations because these companies try to transfer their prices. Their attempt is to shift
income away from the U.S. and deduct expenses toward the U.S. This would create a lower taxable
income for those companies that are foreign owned. Though this was not the intention of the IRS. The
IRS hoped to avoid double taxation for these multinational corporations, because then they would
have to pay tax in the country they are subsiding and the country they are doing business in. However,
it is important to note that the IRS has tried to analyze almost every transaction of multinational
companies in order to see if these related party transactions are in arm s length or not. However even
with these attempts to analyze every transaction, some were still using the laws to

In Dear Friend (?): Culture and Genre in American and Canadian Direct Marketing Letter , Roger
Graves examines how English speaking Canadian people are different from Americans, and how
business communicators need to identify those differences to be successful in both countries. Roger
Graves uses warnings written on the cigarette packet to argue that Americans see only the health
factors when Canadians consider both health and moral issue.
Another difference Roger Graves states is that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He mention that Canadian seem to prefer more direct approach than Americans. (244).In his research,
American culture with less power distance using a friendly facades. As a result, business letters in
America starts with Dear friend (244). On the other hand Canadians prefer business letters with a
more formal tone which establishes more power distance. A Canadian focus is only on the products
and services, anything other than that is insincere.
Business letters in America use economics, nationalistic and patriotic sensibilities to sell their products
and services. In contrast, Canadians prefers to have facts, professionalism, and confidential analysis of
products and services, enhancing the credibility and trustworthiness of businesses. Canadians view the
extrinsic rewards in the products and services with suspicion suggesting that it may not worth
purchasing. He also observes that the US market is larger and more complex than the Canadian
market. US businesses include a brief explanation of them; whereas, Canadian businesses assume
customers to know who they are.
In the U.S. presidential campaign, Bill Clinton put the date and hand written sign to reduce the
distance with the general people by making it more personal. They want to believe that politicians are
more in touch with the general people by greeting Dear Friend in their letter as a polite greeting from
an equal. In Canada, Dear

Women In The Prefect
Instead of attributing their close relationship to possible eroticism, their companions, such as the
Prefect, seem perfectly willing to consider them as an investigative duo. As the Prefect enters their
domain, for example, Dupin stands to turn on a lamp as he and the narrator had been sitting in the
dark, but doesn t do so because the Prefect insists they get right into the discussion at hand (The
Purloined Poe 7). The mere fact that they re reading in near darkness seems contradictory as, one
might assume, light aids readers, but it becomes less strange once one considers the possibility that the
two men have simply wasted the day away in each other s company. The Prefect, as demonstrated,
does not make this connection. He then fails to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While their bachelor status allows them leeway in their expression of sexuality and their non
restriction to heterosexual, familial life, the aforementioned relationships both take advantage of
women in order to further establish and even deepen instances of male homosociality. Between the
narrator and Dupin, for instance, bonding tends to occur around their investigations. Their
investigations, coincidentally, revolve around the bodies of dead, discredited, or disempowered
women (Between Men 137). Both The Murders in the Rue Morgue and The Mystery of Marie Rôget
involve bodies of dead women that coincidentally have no place in discussions farther along the text.
Thus, Dupin and the narrator can discuss women without having to engage with them, whether such
engagements would have been romantic or otherwise. While no dead women are present in The
Purloined Letter, a disempowered woman is certainly present, being the victim of the text s driving
conflict. While the entirety of the text hinges on such theft, the victim of the crime is barely
mentioned, nevertheless never physically present (Derrick 72). Because bachelorhood precludes
intimate relations with women, the routing of homosocial desire through the disempowerment of
women works within the framework of all three of Poe s short

The Other Woman Analysis
I saw, The Other Woman, written by, David Ives, at the UCM Blackbox Theatre on November 3,
2017. Connor Bosworth directed the show, and did a great job. The story surrounds an author who is
met by his sleepwalking wife. She seems to be a completely different person, and when she wakes up
in the morning she doesn t remember a thing. He writes about his nights with her in his story, and lies
to his wife saying that nothing happened. She seems to know what is going on, though she never
admits it, and becomes depressed. Then a month passes without a sound, until we re met by her
sleeping alter ego once again. The husband responds as he normally does, trying comfort her, then she
reveals that she isn t actually sleep walking this time. They get in an argument, but she starts going
back and forth between her sleep walking persona and her awake one until she ends up in the former,
who asks to sleep with his as they had before his awake wife got depressed, but this time he refuses to
give in. Crap, this was supposed to be without spoilers, my bad.
The reason I practically told the entire story in the last paragraph is because this was by far my
favorite of the one acts. After all, the first element on Aristotle s six elements is plot, and the plot of
this show genuinely intrigued me, which isn t an easy task. It had a balanced mix of mystery and
subtle clues as to what is happening, that I was constantly wondering, and trying to guess, as to what
was going to happen next.

The Research Design For A High Quality For Healthcare And...
Researches are always carried out with the purpose of answering questions that are there, to ascertain
a particular phenomenon or to prove a concept. Different researchers have different reasons for
carrying out their research and this is encourage because the knowledge that is gained can be used by
the others in improving that research or better understanding what the situation is. This paper tries to
look at what the researchers were after and at the same trying to see the challenges they faced and
their limitations. It basically tries to understand why the researchers chose the research design that has
been used in the research. Thesis What reasons did the researchers have in carrying out this research
and what significance does it have. The research design that was chosen, what reasons are behind it
being chosen? Did the researchers achieve their objective? The researchers try to bring out the
importance of having a high quality in healthcare and social services and how it can be achieved. They
acknowledge that various stakeholders are involved in the development of a meaningful and
significant of high quality in the fields of healthcare and social services. They understand that policies
are often developed without a contextual understanding of how there can be an achievement in the
development in provider organizations, and frontline work, making policies difficult to implement.
For this reason they look into the role that is played by the third party intermediary

Mexican And Salvadoran Populations During The United States
Mexican And Salvadoran Populations In The United States
The foreign born population in the United States has increased significantly over the past decades,
with projections for the future demanding great attention. The growing population of people born
outside of the United States reached 13.7% in 2015, not far from the country s all time high of 14.8%
in 1890 (Gomez, 2015). Out of this population, Mexico and El Salvador are placed in the top ten

From the micro level to the macro level globalization has transformed the world into a smaller place
with constant interactions occurring at every moment between nations, institutions, groups, and
individuals. And with this prevalent interconnectivity, migration between the Global North and the
Global South has been a controversial consequence of this global integration (Hinojosa, 2015). For
this reason one cannot ignore the importance and impact of migrant populations in the country they
settle in, and in the countries of origin.
Mexican and Central American populations in California have become essential to the economy of
their home country, state, and municipality. Through the transfer of remittances the inflow of money
has become an important component of local economies, playing key roles in economic advancement
(Delgado and Marquez, 2009; Faist 2008). The Mexican foreign born population in California is more
than 4 million, and the Salvadoran population is 677,000 (Mejia and Johnson, 2014; Brown and

specifically the Los Angeles area, but with significant communities in the Central Valley and Bay area
(Mejia and Johnson, 2013). The majority of these communities consists of working age adults
employed in low skilled jobs who produce a substantial amount of money that they then send back to
their home country (Mejia and Johnson, 2013). This paper touches

How Does The Namesake Show Cultural Identity
Everyone struggles with identification, whether you are born and raised in one country and have
shared the same cultural beliefs and norms your whole life, or whether you are born in one country
and move to another that has different cultural norms and beliefs. What makes it unique to each
individual is the journey one takes to figure out their own identity. The Namesake shows a beautiful
journey from both his mother and Gogol s perspective. It shows a women who was taken out of a
country she loved and a country she only knew, then demonstrated the journey of her son, a first
generation Indian American and his struggle finding his own identity.
When being a part of a first generation immigrant there comes many identity struggles throughout

The And Hydroponics Will Change The World Produces Food
Aquaponics and hydroponics will change the way the world produces food. By 2050 the world
population is expected to exceed 9 Billion people. With an increasing population and decreasing farm
land, the world is beginning to face a serious problem in food production. Not only is the quantity of
food produced in jeopardy, the quality and variety are declining as well. Four types of plants provide
more than half the plant based calories wheat, maize, rice, and potatoes. Additionally, 90% of the
animal based protein consumed comes from only a dozen different species. What is the answer to
producing quality food at a quantity to sustain the world? Biodiversity. Biodiversity, the interaction
between different eco systems, has been shown to produce more and healthier food. Traditionally the
answer to feeding a quickly growing world has been to over fertilize, use genetic modification, and
ban the production of crops for use as biofuel. Unfortunately, there has been very little priority placed
on developing biodiversity as a means of sustainability. The research that has been done on
biodiversity, such as aquaponics and hydroponics, has shown that high quality food can be produced
quicker and with less resources than traditional growing. Aquaponics is the process of integrating
aquaculture, fish farming, with hydroponics, growing plants in water. Since use of unnatural products
such as chemicals, pesticides, and herbicides could potentially harm either the fish or the plans,

`` Belle Isle `` By James Scott Memorial Fountain
Belle Isle has been a point of controversy for Detroiters for as long as it has existed. The public park
once was a point of protest in 1940, when an argument over a canoe led to the police beating of a
black man. The beautiful James Scott memorial fountain, which stands as a major attraction on Belle
Isle to this day, is no exception, and was the subject of much scrutiny. The ideals of Detroiters, and
their working spirit is a stark contrast to those of James Scott, and the fountain is not at all
representative of who they are. Although the James Scott Memorial may fulfill its purposes as a
centerpiece for the island and as an everlasting tribute to Scott, it is not representative of Detroit, its
principles, or its people. James Scott was a wealthy man, born in 1831, who inherited a large sum of
money from his father. He then used that wealth to invest into real estate, and made his fortune. His
methods were often less than savory, and according to reports, Scott tried to intimidate his competitors
and, if that did not succeed, he sued them. Although Scott s methods were not the best, they were not
illegal, as many assumed. In response to allegations that the money used was tainted, one of Scott s
few colleagues publicly responded in a newspaper, saying that The [illegible] that Mr. Scott possessed

Brian Mulroney who had similar conservative economic ideologies, which led to a change in global
economy. She shrunk the public sector to favour privatized industry. She came into power seeking to
reduce inflation, reduce the budget deficit, increase economic efficiency, increase home ownership,
and reduce power of the trade unions. As will become evident, Thatcher s controversial election
changed western economics into a more capitalist market which led to great economic growth in the
UK and other western countries, greater social inequality in Britain, and helped pave the way to power
for women in the western world. Margaret Thatcher s economic and political Legacy has shaped the
western world. Thatcher denounced the prolonged experiment of socialism in Britain as a miserable
failure in every respect. Thatcher s economic policies, aided by Reaganomics in the United States,
promoted free trade, open markets, privatization, and deregulation of the financial sector which was

The Category of Factor X
Malcolm X, an African American Muslim minster and human rights activist, once said We declare our
right on this earth to be a human being, to be respected as a human being, to be given the rights of a
human being in this society, on this earth, in this day, which we intend to bring into existence by any
means necessary. According to Malcolm X, everyone on the earth has a right to be called a human
being and fit into the category of a human being; no matter if they are young, old, disabled or
incompetent. Yet if we were to look back on our past and cannot seem to count how many times these
so called human beings have treated others who share the same characteristics of human beings as
lesser creatures. It becomes as if in order to have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand Factor X is saying that if we were to get rid of these secondary factorials, we would
be equal, however would it worth being equal by eliminating what makes us special. As we begin to
understand that Factor X is not perfect, we find that there will always be one group of people that
factor X seems to not include, which leads to the thinking are they not human beings that have their
own human rights. More importantly we then have to figure what is considered basic human rights
and how do we considered who gets them or at least who deserves their rights more in certain
situations. Figure 1. A simplify list of human rights created and accepted as an international issue after
the Second World War And for that simple reason are we going to say people who are disabled,
terminally ill or an unborn fetus does not have the right to be included in to factor X or the potential to
have human rights. The question then becomes how are we going to amend Factor X to include this
group of people without excluding another group by accidentally using their political/social rights or
characteristics in society to say that they are not competent enough to posses Factor X. Skin color,
looks , social class and wealth, gender, cultural background, and even one s natural talents are all
accidents of birth relegated to the class of nonessential characteristics (Fukuyama 186). If these so call
secondary characteristics were to be taken away, then

Battle and Siege of Sarajevo to Recognize Bosnia and...
The UN report on the Battle and Siege of Sarajevo is a document that records the events within the
city from April 5th 1992 to February 28th 1994. The document s purpose is to shine a light and
describe the consequence of the Battle of Sarajevo and its violations of human law. Sarajevo is the
capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The city s name is derived from Seraglio , meaning palace in the
fields in Turkish. Sarajevo s history dates back to Roman times with the Slavs eventually conquering
the area. The cities architecture is comprised of 3 influences, which the text (UN report) describes as
the old Oriental heart of the city, the turn of the century Viennese city around it, and the contemporary
high rise apartment buildings and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An attempt to control the streets and people would thus lead to catastrophic failure. The Sarajevo
Romanija Corps instead resorted to continuously bombarding the city from the surrounding hills in
order to stay in control.
It is in this environment that The Cellist of Sarajevo takes place. Resources are scarce and enemy
snipers gun down citizens. Within Sarajevo there lives a cellist who was famous before the war. One
day as the Cellist watches people line up outside his window to buy food, a mortar shell lands in the
middle of the group, killing 22 of them. The Cellist vows to play Albonini s Adagio in the crater
created from the bombing for 22 days, one day for each of the dead.
Arrow is another inhabitant of the city. She is a sniper who was recruited to protect the Cellist and
defend him from enemy snipers who might gun him down. The constant barrage inspires her to use
her abilities to save lives. The character of Kenan contrasts with Arrow. The bombardment has left
him terrified of the city he lives in. Every four days he makes a dangerous trip across town to fetch
water for his family. He also fetches water for his neighbor, an old woman who doesn t seem to
appreciate the risk he puts himself through for her. During his journey, he is angered after seeing men
drive around in fancy cars while he and his family starve. These are clearly men

When The Housing Market Collapse
When the housing market collapse occurred I was much younger and not fully aware or advised of
how serious the situation really was. Several of my family members owned homes then, but looking
back now they sheltered their children from the situation completely. I realized still to this day I do not
know how or what they were doing to get through the market collapse but I realize my situation could
have been much worse. Now years later I am faced with the decision to buy a home someday like
many in my generation and those looking to buy property again. But just like a growing society its
citizens must learn from previous mistakes made in order to avoid the same outcomes and flourish.
Here are just some of the lessons we must learn from:
First you must do your own research. If you are seriously looking for a home look into everything you
can think of and then research some more. If you have a partner then you will be able to expand your
research with two different points of views and get more results. Don t depend on Wall Street and their
outlooks for the future because in reality it is a game of chances. Just because someone says jump off
a bridge into shallow water because you won t drown would you do it? The people on Wall Street and
those in charge (unless psychic) can t predict the future.
Another lesson learned: Mortgage debt is real debt and must be paid eventually. A lot of home owners
would refinance their homes for extra cash but you can t do that forever.

Cheerleaders Hard Work
Hard Work Should Pay Off
Hard work and dedication pays off for athletes but goes unnoticed for cheerleaders. The hard work
that is put in by cheerleaders needs to be recognized. Allowing cheerleaders to earn an athletic letter
but not be a part of the Chillicothe High School (CHS) C Club, like the other athletic letter recipients,
is being unjust to the cheerleaders. Cheerleaders should be able to be a part of the CHS C Club
because cheerleaders are able to receive an athletic letter, dedicate personal time, and follow Missouri
State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) regulations.
Cheerleaders, along with athletes in varsity sports, receive an athletic letter at the end of the season,
but only the athletes able to be a part of the CHS C Club. C Club is for students who have received an
athletic letter in a sport. AHere at CHS the cheerleading squad is considered only a club, not a sport.
All athletes that are a part of a varsity sport will receive an athletic letter. Cheerleading, although a
club, will receive an athletic letter. Since the cheerleaders are not considered a sport they are not able
to be a part of the CHS C Club.

The Unfair Political System During The French Revolution
Social reform during the French Revolution developed due to the unfair political system, brutality
perpetrated by the first estate, and the living conditions the lower class lived through, nevertheless, the
violence and genocide committed in order to create reform were immoral. Prior to the French
Revolution, people of influence abused the political system in order to allow them to live in luxury.
The government consisted of the first, second and third estate. The First Estate is composed of kings,
queens, and other royalty personnel which is around one percent of the population. The Second Estate
consists of nobles and clergy, which is equivalent to one percent of the population. Lastly, is the Third
Estate which ranged anywhere from the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the time of the French revolution people of the first estate, second estate, and citizens who
work for the said estates, were generally murdered violently either by mob attacks or the Guillotine.
The citizens of the third estate essentially wanted revenge on these people. The guillotine originally
was used by the first estate to punish the lower class, for example; if a citizen from the third estate did
not pay their taxes or they somehow disrespected a leader of power they would be sent, as
punishment, to the guillotine and be put to death. Ironically, throughout the duration of the French
revolution, the citizens who were previously affected by this tyranny used the same tactics in order to
create social reform. The citizens of the first estate would brutally force people of power to death or
subdue them to violent torture. An example of this could be when a man named Flouon justly needed
to be punished for crimes he had committed however the mob of citizens brutally murder him by
hanging him on a lamppost and then putting his head [upon] a pike (II.22.223). In addition to this,
another example of the violence and brutality committed in order to create social reform is The
Storming of the Bastille. The Bastille was a prison in France, which essentially represented the
authority of the upper estates, many low class citizens were imprisoned there for unjust reasons. the
time of the French revolution came around the citizen liberating the prison not only freed prisoners,
they killed many of the authority residing there unjustly and

Analysis Of Horkheimer And Adorno s Dialectic Of...
Published in 1944, Horkheimer and Adorno s Dialectic of Enlightenment raises certain themes curated
by different institute members of the Frankfurt School. A Psycho analytical theory is applied to anti
Semitism , authoritarianism and fascism; it initially however, discusses the mass culture industry, the
power of instrumental reason and of course the philosophy of enlightenment.
Adorno argued, in regard to both cultural production and mass culture that Capitalism has: hi jacked
art and its requirements of the market, this notion can also be applied to the relationship between
media/power and the elite, today. Thus, reliance needs (dependency) are fashioned in the minds of
consumers of said culture by fresh forms of culture curating a set of conditions of dependency by the
powerful. The aim of commercial art, it goes on to argue, is to be presented without any critique, thus
making its produce essentially ideological; the extra dominated interpretations of reality are
reproduced, reinforced and strengthened through this.
The authors state that the Enlightenment and science, developing from the thoughts and concepts of
Francis Bacon, has focused primarily on dominating nature and therefore other humans and thus
formulating a critique of both positivism and the philosophy of history.
The domination of nature is integral to the philosophy of the Enlightenment. However, it could even
be said that a basis that was once linked to liberation has been modified into a

Magnesium s Reaction Lab
c. In analysis of the graphs created from the magnesium s reaction pressure released over time, it
appears that we may have had a possible source of error. According to our T.A., the powder should
have a faster rate of reaction due to its surface area. However, in our experiment, the reaction rates
were found to be similar due to the closeness of the slopes. For the first reaction (trial) of each
magnesium type, we had used 0.2 grams due to a communication error. For the second reaction (trial)
of each magnesium type, we used 0.02 grams. Despite the mass differences, the slopes were very close

1. The parameter (time frame) that s determined from the slope of the graph at short times is typically
where the rate is bound to be the same over a similar time period. Usually this is within a time interval
where the graph is increasing (or decreasing) at a similar rate without the initial burst or the slowing
down of the rate towards the end.
2. Slope can be used to determine the effect of the magnesium on the reaction rate by how close it is to
the number one, when it is showing an increase in reaction rate. As hypothesized, the magnesium with
the greatest surface area would have the fastest reaction rate. Hence, it would have the greater slope
value as well.
3. Please refer to the graphs at the beginning of the post lab and question 2a. The effect of magnesium
on a reaction rate depends on the magnesium s shape and surface area, greater the surface area, the
faster the reaction rate.
4. If HNO3 was used in place of HCl, I d expect the rate of change to be about the same as both are
strong acids. However, if acetic acid (CH3COOH) were to be used instead of HCl, I d except the
reaction rate to be slower as acetic acid is a weak acid and it will dissociate in the water unlike the

The Steam Engine And The Industrial Revolution
Steam Engine The Industrial Revolution took place from the 18th to the 19th centuries. The Industrial
Revolution was a period during which predominantly agrarian, rural societies in Europe and America
became industrial and urban. Prior to the Industrial Revolution which began in Britain in the late
1700s, manufacturing was often done in people s homes, using handtools or basic machines.
Industrialization marked a shift to powered, special purpose machinery, factories and mass production.
The iron and textile industries, along with the development of the steam engine, played central roles in
the Industrial Revolution. The way the iron and textile industries and the development of the steam
engine played central roles in the Industrial Revolution is the things they led to such as improved
systems of transportation, communication and banking. The invention of the steam engine happened
in 1698 by Thomas Savery. The first invention of the steam engine was not quite called the steam
engine, it was actually first called water by fire . It was called water by fire because it was first used to
pump water out from the mines. The water by fire worked by boiling water until it was completely
converted into vapor. The steam was then collected in a tank extracting every droplet of vapor from
the original tank, thereby creating a vacuum in the original container. It was this vacuum that was
employed to produce an adequate amount of energy to pump water out from the mines. The

Spongy Bone Essay
Bone is made up of two types of structure which are the compact bone and the spongy bone. Compact
bone lies over spongy bone and makes up most of a bone s diaphysis, it consist of compactly arranged
osteons which is the Harvesian system. Compact bone able to protect, supports and resist stress.
Spongy bone makes up most of the mass short, flat and irregular bones and is also found at the
epiphyses of long bones. It stores marrow and provides some support. The size of the bone grow
throughout childhood and adolescence as our body produces more bone than it loses. At some point in
life, human will be at their peak bone mass density (BMD) which is the end of the bone growth. For
normal human being, the BMD usually stays constant as the break down and regeneration of bone is
equal. However, for certain people, the bone loses is more than the regeneration and production which

Cancellous bone is more active and is broken down and regenerated more quickly than compact bone.
Because of this, cancellous bone is more likely to be affected when the break down and regeneration
of bone are out of balance in osteoporosis. The cells that are responsible for the BMD to stay constant
is osteoblasts and osteoclasts. The function of osteoblasts is that it produces new bone matrix in a
process called ossification while osteoclasts are cells that remove and recycle bone matrix. For a
normal bone, there is a balance between the action of osteoblasts and osteoclasts but in osteoporotic

Allyson Wells Social Media In the world today, the development of technology is constantly changing
and society is becoming more dependent on the Internet and social media. With a growing number of
people using the Internet and social media the advantages and disadvantages become more prevalent.
It is important for society to distinguish between the two in order to effectively and safely use the
Internet and social media.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of easily obtainable information? The Internet is full of
endless information that is easily available at our fingertips. There are advantages and disadvantages
to having access to such easily obtainable information. One advantage would be the ability to acquire
more knowledge by having access to information outside of a classroom or seminar. Gaining this
information can help with school or work projects if you are able to find helpful information. It is also
a quick and convenient method of gathering data. An example of how it might help an everyday
citizen would be if a person were thinking of moving to a new city or area, they could check the crime
rates and frequency and look to see if any sex offenders are in the area. This is a good way to keep
your family safe by using the easily obtainable information on the Internet. Some disadvantages of
easily obtainable information is it may not be credible. Just because information is on the Internet,

banned. For starters, let s face it SOLs cause so much stress on the teachers and the students. There is
a lot of stress and anxiety during the entire school year to make sure students are even ready to take
these tests. The stress these cause can really make a student feel like they are not smart and not fitting
in. This is because students have to answer trick questions that are different than the kind they have to
answer is class. Also, because the SOLs are long and boring which causes more anxiety because you
see other students worry about it too. You also get stressed when some people are already finished
before you. Next I am going to talk about another reason why SOLs should be banned. You first start
getting all these review packets only a few weeks before the tests but you get them for a bunch of
classes at once. The problem is most people can not remember most of it. Especially when people
have a hard time focusing or remembering when there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These practice tests are totally different from how the questions on the actual SOLs are worded. Plus
we test and test and test and by the time we sit down to take the SOL we do not want to test anymore.
The tests before the SOLs are also bad because they don t always really show what you really know.
The tests are long and tricky because of the questions. It would be way easier if you could just talk to
someone about the answers instead of sitting in a room staring at a computer

My Favorite Point Ms. Mcintosh
My favorite point Ms. McIntosh makes is I can choose blemish cover or bandages in flesh color and
have them more or less match my skin. Holy cow, this is so incredibly true, and I never realized it
until I read this article. Most drugstores don t carry make up dark enough for African Americans. I
have seen white women use, powder foundation made for black women to highlight their face to make
it look tan. It is so ignorant by the make up companies, to not cater to women of all shades. You can
walk down the make up aisle and find ten different shades for white women and two maybe three dark
ones. Black skin comes in just as many tints as white skin does. Same with bandages, black people get
scrapes and cuts too, why don t you make a skin colored bandage for them? For crying out loud, we
make neon pink, orange, green, and purple but we cant have a brown color? Most grown adults don t
want to wear neon or character bandages, but putting an ivory Band Aid on their finger looks quite
peculiar. Isn t the purpose of a Band Aid to make the skin look normal to divert attention from the
wound? I never realized it but when I babysat for my cousins, the mother and son were African
American, the daughter was biracial, and my cousin was white. They always had character Band Aids,
I never thought twice about it because their kids were young, however it makes complete sense to me.
They don t have bandages to match then skin tone. Even the small things like this, certainly could
make

  • 2. History of Statistics Palban, Marvic Trisha V. Palban BSMA 2 HISTORY OF STATISTICS The history of statistics can be said to start around 1749 although, over time, there have been changes to the interpretation of the word statistics. By the 18th century, the term statistics designated the systematic collection ofdemographic and economic data by states. In the early 19th century, the meaning of statistics broadened to include the discipline concerned with the collection, summary, and analysis of data. Today statistics is widely employed in government, business, and all the sciences. Electronic computers have expedited statistical computation, and have allowed statisticians to develop computer intensive methods. The Word statistics have been ... • 3. Minority Serving Institutions ( Msis ) Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs) serves to provide a college education for citizens across racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic differences that were excluded from higher education throughout the United States History. Minority Serving Institutions work towards producing superior results with fewer resources while being evaluated using the same accreditation standards as prestigious majority public and private institutions (Fester, 2012, p. 816). Minority Serving Institutions are represented by Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs), Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs), and Asian American, Native American, Pacific Islander Serving Institutions (AANAPISIs), and Minority Services ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Laws and informal practices were exercised in the 1800s forbidding African Americans to have the access to reading and writing (Williams, 2007). HBCUs granted the admission of African American and postsecondary certification when other institutions excluded their participation (Palmer, 2010, p.767). With 107 HBCUs over 228,000 enrolled (U.S. Department of Education, 1991). African Americans have increased attending colleges by the 1940s while being funded by the U.S Department of Education however limited monies supporting HBCUs casted attention away from HBCUs. In response Fredrick D. Patterson, then president of Tuskegee Institute, suggested private funding efforts. As a result, in 1944 presidents of 29 private HBCUs created the United Negro College Fund (UNCF). The UNCF served solely as a fund raising organization but evidently turned its attention on advocacy and educational roles for African American students (Gasman, 2007). The Higher Education Act of 1965 amended in Title III authorized funds for enhancing HBCUs by strengthening their College and Universities Program and the Graduate Institutions (U.S. Department of Education, 1991). AANAPISIs are excluded from broader discourses on equity and social justice thus limiting their system wide policy considerations at state and national levels (Teranishi, 2010). AANAPSIs are academically successful however the low rates of college participation and degree ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay on Fredrick Douglass After reading the Narrative of the Life of Fredrick Douglass, An American Slave, I have received a better understanding of the life of a slave. Douglass has a way of explaining the trials and tribulations of a slave, which makes the reader, look at the situations in a different perspective. Douglass narrative was originally oral and he eventually sat down and wrote it as story of events of that time during his life. I believe he wrote it not just to tell his story but for other abolitionists of the time to actually feel what the slaves went through. Douglass begins his narrative in a very original way. He does not jump into the accounts of his life. But he begins very passive and describes the overseers in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Douglass main argument in the narrative was to end the institution of slavery as a whole. His goal was to appeal to the middle class people of that time and convince them to get on board with the abolitionist movement. Douglass had a great writing style that was descriptive as well as convincing. He uses standard English instead of the vernacular which showed his intelligence. If he was too engaged in his emotions he would not be taken seriously, you had to be rational in order to convince the northern abolitionists. Also staying away from the horrific details of the time help him grasp the attention of the women who in turn would convince their husbands to help by donating money and eventually ending slavery. • 5. Children Should Spend Watching Television Animated cartoons, or motion pictures using animated techniques to display sequential drawings, have been a popular form of entertainment since the early eighteenth century. From the 1920 s to the 1960 s was a time marked as the golden age of cartooning. Years after that would provide a special time slot that had kids waiting in anticipation for the weekends, a term known as Saturday Morning Cartoons. Research conducted within the last decade has concluded that children spend significantly more time watching television than they do learning in classrooms. The sociological textbook, Sociology the Essentials, states The average person consumes some form of media sixty nine hours per week more time than they likely spend in school or at work; thirty three of these hours are spent watching television (Andersen 42). The majority of targeted adolescent television shows are animated. Although the statistics may be high, the thirty three hours spent on television could be spent learning instead of neglecting education. Cartoons are chalk full of lessons on vocabulary, speech, mathematics, and science. Reaching out to a young demographic during their scholastic career with a comfortable form of media can be everlastingly beneficial. Ultimately cartoons helpfully assist in the overall development of adolescence. Television networks, such as PBS and Nickelodeon, that are directed towards the attention of children play an essential role in teaching kids about foreign languages. In ... The drug is appropriately used when using substantial amounts of aromatizing steroids, or when one is prone to gynecomastia and using moderate amounts of such steroids. Arimidex does not have the side effects of aminoglutethimide (Cytadren) and can achieve a high degree of estrogen blockade, much moreso than Cytadren. It is possible to reduce estrogen too much with Arimidex, and for this reason blood tests, or less preferably salivary tests, should be taken after the first week of use to determine if the dosing is correct. As an aromatase inhibitor, Arimidex s mechanism of action blocking conversion of aromatizable steroids to estrogen is in contrast to the mechanism of action of anti estrogens such as clomiphene (Clomid) or tamoxifen (Nolvadex), which block estrogen receptors in some tissues, and activate estrogen receptors in others. • 7. Taxing Multinational Corporations, U.s. And Foreign... While taxing multinational corporations, the U.S. and other foreign governments have faced many problems. Treaties and laws were set up to avoid double taxation for these multinational corporations but instead of avoiding double taxation it delineated a way for tax avoidance. With the old laws, these multinational corporations were allowed to take a tax advantage. They were allowed to move their business revenues, which permitted them to go into a lower tax bracket and be taxed at a tax haven . This allowed them to claim less tax and be more profitable. For example, foreign owned corporations pay less tax if operating in the U.S. rather than elsewhere and vice versa. This creates a tax advantage for these corporations because these companies try to transfer their prices. Their attempt is to shift income away from the U.S. and deduct expenses toward the U.S. This would create a lower taxable income for those companies that are foreign owned. Though this was not the intention of the IRS. The IRS hoped to avoid double taxation for these multinational corporations, because then they would have to pay tax in the country they are subsiding and the country they are doing business in. However, it is important to note that the IRS has tried to analyze almost every transaction of multinational companies in order to see if these related party transactions are in arm s length or not. However even with these attempts to analyze every transaction, some were still using the laws to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Women In The Prefect Instead of attributing their close relationship to possible eroticism, their companions, such as the Prefect, seem perfectly willing to consider them as an investigative duo. As the Prefect enters their domain, for example, Dupin stands to turn on a lamp as he and the narrator had been sitting in the dark, but doesn t do so because the Prefect insists they get right into the discussion at hand (The Purloined Poe 7). The mere fact that they re reading in near darkness seems contradictory as, one might assume, light aids readers, but it becomes less strange once one considers the possibility that the two men have simply wasted the day away in each other s company. While their bachelor status allows them leeway in their expression of sexuality and their non restriction to heterosexual, familial life, the aforementioned relationships both take advantage of women in order to further establish and even deepen instances of male homosociality. Between the narrator and Dupin, for instance, bonding tends to occur around their investigations. Their investigations, coincidentally, revolve around the bodies of dead, discredited, or disempowered women (Between Men 137). Both The Murders in the Rue Morgue and The Mystery of Marie Rôget involve bodies of dead women that coincidentally have no place in discussions farther along the text. Thus, Dupin and the narrator can discuss women without having to engage with them, whether such engagements would have been romantic or otherwise. While no dead women are present in The Purloined Letter, a disempowered woman is certainly present, being the victim of the text s driving conflict. While the entirety of the text hinges on such theft, the victim of the crime is barely mentioned, nevertheless never physically present (Derrick 72). The story surrounds an author who is met by his sleepwalking wife. She seems to be a completely different person, and when she wakes up in the morning she doesn t remember a thing. He writes about his nights with her in his story, and lies to his wife saying that nothing happened. She seems to know what is going on, though she never admits it, and becomes depressed. Then a month passes without a sound, until we re met by her sleeping alter ego once again. The husband responds as he normally does, trying comfort her, then she reveals that she isn t actually sleep walking this time. They get in an argument, but she starts going back and forth between her sleep walking persona and her awake one until she ends up in the former, who asks to sleep with his as they had before his awake wife got depressed, but this time he refuses to give in. Crap, this was supposed to be without spoilers, my bad. The reason I practically told the entire story in the last paragraph is because this was by far my favorite of the one acts. After all, the first element on Aristotle s six elements is plot, and the plot of this show genuinely intrigued me, which isn t an easy task. It had a balanced mix of mystery and subtle clues as to what is happening, that I was constantly wondering, and trying to guess, as to what was going to happen next. ... By 2050 the world population is expected to exceed 9 Billion people. With an increasing population and decreasing farm land, the world is beginning to face a serious problem in food production. Not only is the quantity of food produced in jeopardy, the quality and variety are declining as well. Four types of plants provide more than half the plant based calories wheat, maize, rice, and potatoes. Additionally, 90% of the animal based protein consumed comes from only a dozen different species. What is the answer to producing quality food at a quantity to sustain the world? Biodiversity. Biodiversity, the interaction between different eco systems, has been shown to produce more and healthier food. Traditionally the answer to feeding a quickly growing world has been to over fertilize, use genetic modification, and ban the production of crops for use as biofuel. Unfortunately, there has been very little priority placed on developing biodiversity as a means of sustainability. The research that has been done on biodiversity, such as aquaponics and hydroponics, has shown that high quality food can be produced quicker and with less resources than traditional growing. The Unfair Political System During The French Revolution Social reform during the French Revolution developed due to the unfair political system, brutality perpetrated by the first estate, and the living conditions the lower class lived through, nevertheless, the violence and genocide committed in order to create reform were immoral. Prior to the French Revolution, people of influence abused the political system in order to allow them to live in luxury. The government consisted of the first, second and third estate. The First Estate is composed of kings, queens, and other royalty personnel which is around one percent of the population. The Second Estate consists of nobles and clergy, which is equivalent to one percent of the population. Lastly, is the Third Estate which ranged anywhere from the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the time of the French revolution people of the first estate, second estate, and citizens who work for the said estates, were generally murdered violently either by mob attacks or the Guillotine. The citizens of the third estate essentially wanted revenge on these people. The guillotine originally was used by the first estate to punish the lower class, for example; if a citizen from the third estate did not pay their taxes or they somehow disrespected a leader of power they would be sent, as punishment, to the guillotine and be put to death. Ironically, throughout the duration of the French revolution, the citizens who were previously affected by this tyranny used the same tactics in order to create social reform. The citizens of the first estate would brutally force people of power to death or subdue them to violent torture. An example of this could be when a man named Flouon justly needed to be punished for crimes he had committed however the mob of citizens brutally murder him by hanging him on a lamppost and then putting his head [upon] a pike (II.22.223). In addition to this, another example of the violence and brutality committed in order to create social reform is The Storming of the Bastille. The Bastille was a prison in France, which essentially represented the authority of the upper estates, many low class citizens were imprisoned there for unjust reasons. the time of the French revolution came around the citizen liberating the prison not only freed prisoners, they killed many of the authority residing there unjustly and ... • 29. Analysis Of Horkheimer And Adorno s Dialectic Of... Published in 1944, Horkheimer and Adorno s Dialectic of Enlightenment raises certain themes curated by different institute members of the Frankfurt School. A Psycho analytical theory is applied to anti Semitism , authoritarianism and fascism; it initially however, discusses the mass culture industry, the power of instrumental reason and of course the philosophy of enlightenment. Adorno argued, in regard to both cultural production and mass culture that Capitalism has: hi jacked art and its requirements of the market, this notion can also be applied to the relationship between media/power and the elite, today. Thus, reliance needs (dependency) are fashioned in the minds of consumers of said culture by fresh forms of culture curating a set of conditions of dependency by the powerful. The aim of commercial art, it goes on to argue, is to be presented without any critique, thus making its produce essentially ideological; the extra dominated interpretations of reality are reproduced, reinforced and strengthened through this. The authors state that the Enlightenment and science, developing from the thoughts and concepts of Francis Bacon, has focused primarily on dominating nature and therefore other humans and thus formulating a critique of both positivism and the philosophy of history. The domination of nature is integral to the philosophy of the Enlightenment. However, it could even be said that a basis that was once linked to liberation has been modified into a ... According to our T.A., the powder should have a faster rate of reaction due to its surface area. However, in our experiment, the reaction rates were found to be similar due to the closeness of the slopes. For the first reaction (trial) of each magnesium type, we had used 0.2 grams due to a communication error. For the second reaction (trial) of each magnesium type, we used 0.02 grams. Despite the mass differences, the slopes were very close to one another but with the ribbon reactions appearing to be faster due to their slightly larger slopes. The parameter (time frame) that s determined from the slope of the graph at short times is typically where the rate is bound to be the same over a similar time period. Usually this is within a time interval where the graph is increasing (or decreasing) at a similar rate without the initial burst or the slowing down of the rate towards the end. 2. Slope can be used to determine the effect of the magnesium on the reaction rate by how close it is to the number one, when it is showing an increase in reaction rate. As hypothesized, the magnesium with the greatest surface area would have the fastest reaction rate. Hence, it would have the greater slope value as well. 3. Please refer to the graphs at the beginning of the post lab and question 2a. The Industrial Revolution was a period during which predominantly agrarian, rural societies in Europe and America became industrial and urban. Prior to the Industrial Revolution which began in Britain in the late 1700s, manufacturing was often done in people s homes, using handtools or basic machines. Industrialization marked a shift to powered, special purpose machinery, factories and mass production. The iron and textile industries, along with the development of the steam engine, played central roles in the Industrial Revolution. The way the iron and textile industries and the development of the steam engine played central roles in the Industrial Revolution is the things they led to such as improved systems of transportation, communication and banking. The invention of the steam engine happened in 1698 by Thomas Savery. The first invention of the steam engine was not quite called the steam engine, it was actually first called water by fire . It was called water by fire because it was first used to pump water out from the mines. The water by fire worked by boiling water until it was completely converted into vapor. The steam was then collected in a tank extracting every droplet of vapor from the original tank, thereby creating a vacuum in the original container. It was this vacuum that was employed to produce an adequate amount of energy to pump water out from the mines. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Another reason why SOLs are bad is because they give only a small amount of time to study everything you have learned all year. One other reason is you have to take a bunch of test before the SOL to see how you might do on the test. These reasons are why I am going to convince you that SOLs should be banned. For starters, let s face it SOLs cause so much stress on the teachers and the students. There is a lot of stress and anxiety during the entire school year to make sure students are even ready to take these tests. The stress these cause can really make a student feel like they are not smart and not fitting in.
