The Influence of Roman Engineering and Architecture
The ingeniousness and beauty of Roman architecture has not been lost on us in the 2000 years since it
was built. Even today, we still marvel at what incredible builders the Romans were, and at the sheer
scale and integrity of many of their projects. It is hard to argue that today s architecture will maintain
the same lasting grandeur as that which the Romans built. If we can still respect and admire the
grandeur of Rome as it was in it s day, one can only imagine how much of an influence people of the
time felt, due to the incredible innovations that the Romans brought to the new regions of their empire.
In fact, it is because of the superior engineering skills and architectural ideas possessed by the
Romans, and respected by others, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This water was then used for the public baths and toilets, besides the expected drinking water. The fact
that this water was for the public, and not reserved for private use, pleased people in the new colonies
even more, and made them even more accepting of Roman control. The actual aqueducts themselves,
built by the Romans to carry the water, were perhaps even more influential. Aqueducts like Pont du
Gard at Nimes (Images 3 and 4), or Segovia in Spain (Image 5), the latter of which still carries water
today, were monumental landmarks in the colonies where they were built and still are today. That the
Romans would build such magnificent and monumental structures for the sole purpose of supplying
water to its colonies was likely overwhelming to those benefiting from it. So the Romans supplied the
towns with water, and made travel between towns easier. But what about improving life within the
town itself? It is in the public buildings such as the bath, the forum and the amphitheater, which
people used and experienced daily, where Rome was able to exert its greatest influence. The fact that
these buildings were open to all and not reserved for an elitist group of society only increased their
significance. It is arguable that the grandness of the baths has yet to be surpassed in any public
building since. These were huge, lavishly ornamented structures where citizens would go not only to
bathe, but also

Cyrus Music Video For Wrecking Ball Debuted, It Gained...
When Miley Cyrus music video for Wrecking Ball debuted, it gained the attention of people all around
the world. It accumulated 19.3 million views in one day smashing the previous record of 12.3 million
views set by One Direction (Lipshutz 1). The instant popularity of the video, resulted in many
different critiques and understandings of the video. Most of the negative which is a result of her past,
while others were a more positive view.
Wrecking Ball begins with the melody playing and the screen focused on Cyrus face against a white
background mouthing the opening lyrics. All the audience can see at this point is her face which has
been made up to look almost completely natural with minimal make up, other than her striking red lips
which contrasts with the pure white of the background and her pale complexion. Her normally heavily
pierced ears has been reduced to just two conch earrings and this change appears to signify that she is
embracing a more innocent and pure attitude instead of her normal fierce and edgy one. Another
interpretation is that her lack of earrings signify a more However, what is the most noticeable are her
tear filled blue eyes. How she appears at this point creates an air of confidence as it appears that she is
not afraid to show her emotions.
Many of the scenes throughout the music video both comply with and oppose Laura Mulvey s theory
of the male gaze. Gazing is defined as a male activity... while being looked at is... females (Monk

The Problem Of Organ Transplants
The need for organs is a growing dilemma amongst America and countries all over the world.
Thousands of people sit on waiting lists in hopes to receive a new organ never knowing if they will
actually receive one before their delicate organ gives up. Although many people are willing to be
donors upon the time of their own death, the shortage of organs hangs over the patients and families
who deal with the reality of an organ shortage every day. One solution that has been proposed is
allowing people to be able to sell their own organs in order to meet the need that is out there now.
Constructing a program that allows the sale of an organ would lead to a decrease in the black market
for organs, an increase in organ availability, and create a greater awareness of the need for more organ
donors. Creating a program to control the sale of organs would lead to a decrease in the need for a
black market. Due to a growing need of organ transplants, especially kidneys, unfortunate scenarios
have come about as a result of the shortage. Out of desperation, many people in other countries have
gone searching for organs overseas and even behind the scenes searching for the underground market
of organ sales. In some countries like Bangladesh, brokers cut corners to coerce subjects into donating
their organs when the willing donor might not even know what their organ does (Resnick, 2012). By
allowing the sale of organs for those who freely want to participate in saving lives, this corrupt

The Qualitative Study Used For The Study Conducted By...
The qualitative study used for the study conducted by Oster, Mayan, and Toth (2013) was
ethnography. Ethnography is a method of describing a culture and the behaviours that are exhibited
(Barroso Cameron, 2013, p. 179). The limitation to utilizing this research method in Oster, Mayan,
and Toth s study, which primarily utilized focused ethnographies, is that the researchers may not
involve participants from a similar community (2013). In order to address this aspect, the researchers
should have conducted a Participatory Action Research (PAR), specifically Community Based
Participatory Research (Barroso Cameron, 2013, p. 187). Like ethnography, PAR allows the
researchers to work towards improving the health of their participants. ... Show more content on

Oster, Mayan, and Toth s study found that every women interviewed had similar themes pertaining to
diabetes and pregnancy, such as difficulty controlling blood sugar and overall health (2013). They also
discovered the importance of improving pregnancy care in a way that will increase autonomy and
available support systems (ie patient centred approach) (Oster, Mayan, Toth, 2013). These findings
can help guide future nursing practice because from early on, nurses are taught the importance of
patience centred, strength based care (Gottlieb, 2014). Improving strength based care in indigenous
communities will allow members with gestational diabetes, let alone any other health conditions to
build upon person and community assets when they are working to improve health. This process will
put patients at the centre of care and allow them to be more involved in their health care and thereby
gain knowledge about all aspects of personal health (Gottlieb, 2014). Additionally, when
implementing patient centred care and working to promote health, it is crucial nurses and other
healthcare providers involve Western medicine and culturally accepted methods of care. These
methods may include cooking classes that prepare cultural dishes, developing a community vegetable
garden, and implementing appropriate screening tools (Harris, Bhattacharyya, Dyck, Naqshbandi
Hayward, Toth, 2013; Health Canada, 2013).
The study conducted by Topp et al (2013) was designed to test

Respiratory Acidosis Essay
Respiratory acidosis is when the lungs are unable to remove the normal amount of carbon dioxide as
the body produces it. This leads to an increase in PaCO2 (hypercapnia) which lowers HCO3. The
blood becomes too acidic because of the excess amount of CO2. The average range for PaCO2 is 35
45m Hg. Respiratory acidosis is caused by an issue with the lungs ability to remove CO2 properly, a
form of lung disease. Most causes are asthma, neuromuscular disorders, obesity and COPD. The lungs
and the kidneys regulate the body s pH. Lungs remove CO2 and the kidneys remove acid through the
urine. Treatment would include bronchodilator drugs to open airways, oxygen therapy and a breathing
machine might be prescribed. A person that is much older is more likely to develop this type of disease
since the strength of the kidneys and lungs has weekend with age. Also certain medications can affect
the pH balance of the body. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This leads to a decline in PCO2 and increases pH. The Main cause for Respiratory alkalosis is
hyperventilation which is over breathing. Panic attacks (anxiety), heart attack, drug use, asthma, fever,
COPD and pulmonary embolism can cause respiratory alkalosis. Again, the lungs here are important
in keeping the blood pH balanced by releasing the perfect amount of carbon dioxide. Treatment is
dependent on the cause of respiratory alkalosis. For instance, if it was for anxiety you would exhale
into a paper bag carbon dioxide and breathe that into the lungs. Doing this can restore the carbon
dioxide back into the body. The body s pH depends on the kidneys and lungs so in elderly it is much
harder to maintain this balance due to the decline in the kidneys and the lungs ability to

A Madman s Diary By Lu Xun Analysis
Many authors use their work to express their thoughts about the flaws in the societies in which they
live. Lu Xun masks his criticisms of the once feudal society in China in his story, A Madman s Diary,
by comparing the feudalistic society to cannibalism. The story begins with the narrator going to visit
two brothers. Upon arrival, the narrator learns that the younger of the two brothers has recently been
cured of madness, and moved away. The older sibling offers the narrator his brother s diary for the
narrator to read. After the narrator s explanation of how he got the madman s diary, the rest of the
story is composed of various entries from the diary the narrator was given. In the diary entries, it is
learned that the madman is very fearful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In A Madman s Diary, the madman is the only one who is truly in touch with reality. He is the only
one who is seeing the true cannibalistic nature of the feudal system. The metaphor between
cannibalism and feudalism is meant to convey to the readers the flaws of the feudal system without Lu
Xun directly criticizing the system. Even though the madman is currently terrified of the society he is
living in, he shows hope for a better future. In the last diary entry, he ponders the possibility of the
nature of this society changing. He questions whether or not there are children who have not
consumed other people. He says that the children need to be saved from the nature of this society of
consuming other people to live. This represents Lu Xun s belief that the feudalistic society can change
if the ways of that society are not taught to the children and that he has hope for the future of society.
...The narrator cultivates and maintains the courage to hope that the future for the children of China
will be separate from the past (Laws 51). Lu Xun conveys a sense of hope for a better future in China
through the madman s hope in the story. The madman is the only one who is truly aware of the
problems of the society that they live in. Everyone else around him simply seems to accept the ways
of life. Metaphorically, this is representative of how normal people are blind to the problems of the
feudal system, and that it would take a madman to see the issues behind how they are living. Lu Xun
uses the madman s fear of cannibalism in society to convey to readers his own fear of

Literary Devices In The Book Thief
Promp 2 Liesel Meminger was a girl that went through a lot throughout her life. During our short time
of reading about her life we saw her go through so many emotions, struggles, and different changes.
Throughout The Book Thief by Markus Zusak we see a girls story during the time of WW2 and the
Holocaust. We read this story of Liesel Meminger and wonder how anyone could ever survive during
a time like this, because for most people this was an extremely awful time to live in. But through his
use of imagery, and other literary devices, Zukas found a way to write a perfect book describing this
girl s life and to show how genuinely hard it was to live during this time. One of the first things we see
Liesel going through is the separation of her and her mother. Which leads to her also losing her
brother due to the fact that he died during their journey to Liesel s new home. This was one of Liesel s
obstacles as when she says There was a chaos of goodbyes. . At first this may not look like it would be
a gigantic obstacle by how it was worded. But once you read into the context of the sentence and take
in how Zukas worded it to fill your mind with the imagery of Liesel s thoughts you see how hard this
is for her. Her brother has just died, and on the same day that she realizes she will never see him again
she is forced away from her mother and she will also never see her mother again. During this time of
the book this might have been something that happened a lot, but

Ssg Arroa s Squad At Fort Indiantown Gap
SSG Arroa s squad moved cautiously down the path that the Sergeant had marked to the main gate at
Fort Indiantown Gap. The rest of first platoon had held back as well as the company to provide cover
for the advancing squad. SSG Arroa had cleared about a hundred yards past the main gain without any
problems, they encountered no resistance, but several booby traps which they disabled. Their orders
were that once they were able to breach the main gate they were to begin to remove the barricades.
Which consisted everything and the kitchen sink, several cars that had been pushed into the front of
the gate, chairs, benches, large rocks, mounds of dirt, and a couple of desks. SSG Arroa sent back
Corporal Reyes to his Platoon Sergeant and told him to send more men to help clear the barricade.
There was no way he could provide security for him and his men as well as move everything out of
the way. SFC Dittmyer was the Platoon Sergeant, the man was not a great thinker and a very poor
leader. He had decided to send one more squad to help SSG Arroa why the entire platoon didn t move

why wait. But, SSG Arroa knew it wasn t his job to wonder why the Army did things, his job was to

A Trip On Vacation With Other People s Families
Going on vacation with other people s families was not foreign to me. I had gone on beach trips three
times before Hot Springs. Therefore, I was used to going on trips without my own family, but this trip
was very different. This trip was nothing like the other trips I had gone on. This one would would
introduce me to more people than I can even count. Marjorie Ann, Lilly, and I have been my nickels
for about a year now. I call them my nickels for reason I honestly cannot remember, but it has stuck.
We were brought together by our brunette hair since we carry the dominant genes in our larger friend
group. About two weeks before the fourth of July, I was at home depot when Lilly Hunter texted
Marjorie and I about our plans for the upcoming holiday. She wanted us to come with her to Hot
Springs, Arkansas for her great grandmother s 99th birthday hoorah. We both quickly replied eagerly
letting her know we would come. Marjorie Ann had been at the beach, I had been at the beach, and
Lilly had been at home in Oxford. We had not seen each other for about two weeks. Lilly Hunter is not
a good person when it comes to letting you know information about a trip. Marjorie and I had to
almost literally pull the information out of her. We finally received details about the trip such as what
to wear, bring, where we would be staying, and who would be there. A couple day later, we were
piling into Mrs. Sloan s car. Mrs. Sloan is Lilly s mom and is one of the most hospitable people I

My Paper On Cultural Identity
My paper was based on the first topic about how someone s life history can tell you about their
cultural identity. The person I interviewed was a second generation 32 year old immigrant from
Mexico. She is a very kind person, with such an adventurous personality. My plan was to ask several
questions about her life, as well as what she has faced. This is so I can learn more from her and her
culture. I asked a couple of questions about her life and practices to figure out how family and changes
helped her adapt to what culture she identifies with growing up. My first heading will consist of her
childhood growing up, the culture she grew up with and how her family plays the important part of her
culture. My second will consist on her adult changes and her identity she has formed. I will then
explain how her experiences have helped shaped her through her life and what she talks about during
the interview as well as any other stories she would like to contribute.
To begin with, she was born in Tijuana, Mexico. She was homeschooled after she finished middle
school because her parents believed it to be better for her to remain home to teach her how they see fit.
Her connection with her parents was not that good, but they still bonded during holidays and cultural
traditions. She identifies with the American culture more than a Mexican culture, despite her mother
being Mexican; she did not live a Mexican lifestyle or celebrated much Mexican holidays growing up.

The Sniper Theme Essay
What a cruel thing is war : to separate and destroy families and friends... Robert E. Lee. This quote
relates to The Sniper, because it explains how the sniper killed his brother. It separated and destroyed
his family because he shot his brother. He thought his brother was the enemy even though he wasn t.
The Sniper the short story by Liam O Flaherty, starts off with the sniper patrolling the surrounding
area he is in. Then he decides to take a smoke and a bullet flies past him. After his last smoke he gets
hit in the right forearm. Then he thinks of a plan to kill the other shooter. He drops his rifle off the roof
making the other shooter think he is dead. The sniper then fires a long distant shot. The shooter slowly
falls to the ground and dies. He then goes and looks into the dead shooters face and sees his brother.
The Sniper by Liam O Flaherty believes that duty and sadness is always a part of war.

roof, doing his duty as a soldier. The sniper decides to have a smoke even though he could risk being

sadness because he killed his own brother without knowing it. The author included the theme of duty
because in war duty is essential. The soldiers have to do their duty or else they will not win the war
they are fighting. The story shows that war has and will always have duty involved in it as well as
sadness, because people will kill each other even if they know the person, they are willing to kill them

helicopter and verified that all 16 aboard had been killed. Despite multiple attempts, the search
helicopters were unable to locate the wounded Navy SEAL and he was soon announced MIA. On July
2, the village elder of Sabray, carrying a note from Luttrell, went down to seek help from Camp
Blessing, a Marine outpost several miles away. First Lieutenant Matt Bartels was the first to hear of
the lone survivor and soon called up to higher for extraction plans. With high hopes the US military
drew up extensive plans for Luttrell s retrieval making him a high priority. As if the Taliban heard of
the SEALs new hopes for rescue they were more persistent than ever at getting him as their captive.
The rescue teams of the US closed in upon the village when they suddenly ran into Luttrell and some
of the villagers who were moving him from one hiding place to another. Six days later the search
teams found the bodies of LT Murphy s and GM2 Dietz but STG2 Axelson was never found and is
now pronounced KIA. This tragic event in our nation s current War on terror is arguably the worst of
the decade. There are so many aspects of

Examples Of Moral Obligation In Antigone
We as humans have a moral obligation to be disobedient towards laws because no one should be
stopped from believing what is right. In Antigone, Antigone breaks the law to bury her brother,
because she felt like it was the right thing do. She did not care that he fought with the other side it was
her brother. She was acting on impulse , but it was all for her family. Antigone states, But I will bury
him; and if I must die, I say that this crime is holy (Sophocles 2. 57). She just wanted to see her
brother in peace and that is what she sees right. If someones family member died and they were not
allowed to bury them, how would they rest in peace. For Antigone that is a way she might have felt,
hurt and upset that her brother would not be able

Shakesperean Clothing Essay example
Have you ever looked at a picture of your parents when they were your age? Or maybe your
grandparents from way back when? Well, judging by how much we laugh at their goofy clothes and
ridiculous shoes, not to mention the hilarious hairstyles, styles have changed a lot. We?ve gone from
high waists to low waists, baggy shirts to shirts that could fit your little sister, from bellbottoms to skin
tight jeans, and from voluminous hair to straight and silky locks. Yes, style can change a lot in a few
decades and if you think that s a lot of change, try going back a few centuries, to the times of
Shakespeare! Back then, the women wore a lot more clothes than we do, that?s for sure! The style
included a chemise, stockings (hose), a corset or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The men these days wouldn?t be caught dead in those!), a codpiece, and a corset (who knew men had
those). For over clothes, they wore a doublet, with separate sleeves, breeches, a belt, ruff, cloak, shoes,
and a hat. This age was also known as the peacock age, because sometimes the men were more
elaborately dressed than the women! Make up and hairstyles have also changed from then till now.
Then, make up was pale, and extremely white. Women wore hats and carried parasols to escape from
the light, to stay as white as possible. Those with darker, tanned skin were generally workers, so it was
important for the upper class to distinguish themselves from the peasants. Men also used this white
paste to identify themselves from the peasants. Who knew that Queen Elizabeth set the standards for
make up in those days? Her case of smallpox, which left some blemishes, was easily covered by the
heavy white make up. This explains the absurdly pale skin in her many portraits. Cheeks and lips were
ideally red. Kohl was used to darken the eyelashes. Light hair was also considered beautiful. Hair
styles were also very elaborate. Can you imagine sitting in a chair for 4 days with 20 hairdressers?
Well, many women spent almost that much time, because their hair was almost never styled. In those
days, people very rarely took baths, meaning their hair would last for a long time. This may seem
absolutely disgusting to us, but it was perfectly normal

Max Brooks World War Z
World War Z Essay
In the novel, World War Z by Max Brooks, the protagonist interviews several characters that have
confronted the zombie crisis. Throughout the book the experiences and encounters of the characters
are related to international relations. The concepts that are most helpful in understanding the
International Relations of World War Z include a security dilemma, zero sum game, and bureaucratic
politics model. In this essay I will analyze four different interviews of Bob Archer, Travis D Ambrosia,
Whako, and Ernesto Olguin while evaluating the individual, state, and international levels of analysis,
and argue the realist and liberalist theoretical approach best explain the International Relations of each
event or conflict.

The individual level of analysis is when the moral principles of individuals may translate into that of
the nations of the values and principle of the leader is reflected in the nation. First, Whako and the
president were very different. They came from diverse parties and had opposite personalities but still
worked closely together. Based on his personality and perspective, the reader learns that he is
passionate while the President is more logical which made them a good team. However, based on the
past experiences and personality of the Whako it creates biases on how he perceived events. In his
opening statements, he discusses that he had been a rising political star until he self destructed,
according to the media. From this statement it ruins his credibility as it is difficult to know what is true
and false. During questions regarding the election process, the interviewer notes that Whako at first
did not support the elections, but the President was able to convince him that they were necessary, as
they needed to know the public opinion and set a tone for the administration. One of the president s
policy was strict punishment laws. These laws kept no one above the law and set order in the nation.
Most importantly, it reflects his moral principles and sets his approach to the crisis. The theoretical
approach that provides the best explanation for the situation is a

Sexism In The Work Force Essay
Sexism is the social justice issue that involves discrimination in society based on gender. Both men
and women can experience the effects of sexism today but women seem to endure this injustice more.
This can be seen in the work force today as women do not receive equal rights as men in this
particular department. Women are often paid less than men and there is a glass ceiling which is the
term used for the barriers that women face in being promoted to higher level jobs. Although our world
has made significant progress lately in creating equal rights for all women, in the U.S. today, men still
dominate the most important positions of power. Another area where both women and men are

Joseph Stalin. One of the Russias most supreme leaders. But one of its most horrid as well. He brought
them up while also letting them down. Some could say where would we be without him. But others
wish they never were led by him. He went from nothing to the most powerful man in the now most
powerful country.
In the early years.
He was first born Josef Vissarionovich Djugashvili to a poor shoemaker of a father on December 21

In 1939 Stalin and Hitler signed a nonagression pact. He annex parts of Poland and Romania and even

for war. So the Germans almost reached the Russian capital of Moscow. But Stalin and the Red Army
drove the Nazis out of Russia about 2 years later. But his son, died in a German war camp before the

Remedial Costs Are Too High For Csu At Bear
San Jose Mercury News Editorial, authors of Remedial costs are too high for CSU to bear highlight
the San Jose State University policy that took place in 2009. The policy is about Freshmen students
who are required to take remedial classes since their math or English basic college level aren t good
enough. To notice these students that need help ahead of time CSU created the Early Assessment
Program . Even though CSU created the voluntary Early Assessment Program, which has an essay and
two dozen questions that are included in standardized tests given to juniors, many students didn t pass
it. Those students who don t take the Early Assessment Program or aren t qualified will have to take
online tutorials and remedial classes which take a year to study. Sadly, there ll be no repeat chances for
those students who don t pass their remedial courses. They may have to hire tutors or take courses off
campus to gain the basic knowledge they should have received in high school, as the authors said. The
author assume that it s both students and their high school s responsibility for college readiness, and I
strongly agree with the authors aurgement. College readiness shouldn t be CSU. However, College
readiness is high schools obligation , and students duty as well.

A Comparison of The Perfect Storm Movie and Novel Essay
A Comparison of The Perfect Storm Movie and Novel
The Perfect Storm is a novel written by Sebastian Junger, that retells the horrific story of fishermen
and sailors who were caught in the eye of the worst storm in history. The book mainly focuses on the
Andrea Gail, a swordfishing boat, with a crew of 6 men, who disappeared without a trace deep into the
northern atlantic sea. In the year 2000, almost 10 years after the tragic event took place, a motion
picture, perfectly titled, The Perfect Storm which was based on the novel was released. There were
subtle to few changes in the plot line of the story, however there were many differences among the
book and movie. The movie is very intact with the plot and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The movie didn`t portray an important aspect, when the Andrea Gail was replacing and upgrading its
gears in the beginning, but the book did. That played a key role in why the Andrea Gail was caught in
the storm in the first place. The ice machine had broken down leaving the crew with no choice but to
return home, which meant heading into the storm, otherwise the fish they had worked so hard to catch
would spoil, making a whole waste of the trip. There were also details within the book that offered
much enlightment about the sea, the life of a fisherman, how a person dies, and storms, yet the movie
failed to offer that. That`s just one more argument for the debate of whether its better to read the book
or watch the movie.
There were certain plots that took place in the movie, but wasn`t mentioned in the book, if not then it
was only briefly brought about. When the 6 men were out in the bar drinking and partying the night
before they were off to sea once again, the book mentioned only briefly about Murph, one of the
crewmen, ?he has an ex wife Debra, and a three year old baby, also named Dale, whom he openly
adores?. In the movie, it showed Murph and his son, who wasn`t three years old, but older, in the
movie, bonding that last night. However, the book never mentioned this event taking place. The movie

Transmigration Definition
Transmigration of the soul or reincarnation is a concept the Egyptians and even possibly ancient
primitives believed in. For the ancient, primitive people they believed in a religion called animism.
Ancient Egyptians embalmed the body for preservation so it could move on to the next life with the
soul or ka. Transmigration explained family resemblance; the soul from one dead family member was
thought of capable of entering newborn babies. Reincarnation, interchangeable with transmigration,
can be thought of as a process. After death, the soul is thought of to leave the body and seek another
life source, human or animal or another living form. The soul does this by entering and leaving
through the nostrils and mouth, not only after death and around birth, but while sleeping too. ... Show

Pythagoras believed souls were immortal and it was only our bodies that died and the soul continued
on towards many rebirths, becoming purified in the Underworld, until it could end or leave the cycle
because it become completely purified. Plato, another Greek philosopher also believed in
transmigration. He too believed the soul was eternal, only his idea was it become un purified during
inhabiting an organism (a body). Simultaneously, while habituating bodies, the soul could eliminate
impurities by doing good. If souls continue this positive lifestyle, they can return to the preexisting
state, however if souls do bad, they will end up in Tartarus, otherwise known as the Christian concept
of hell. Overall, Plato believed people should behave well in order to break the cycle and not end up in
eternal damnation. The Druids were a priestly caste of Celts from the first century AD who also
believed in Reincarnation. They believed souls were immortal and spent a certain amount of time in
different bodies. For this reason, the Celts were not known to fear

Descriptive Essay About Northern Pines Restaurant
Northern Pines Restaurant; Mediocre at best
Looking for a new place to eat that is affordable and food that tastes amazing? If so, Northern Pines is
not for you!! Do not be deceived by what is perpetrated on the web. Upon internet investigation, The
Northern Pines Restaurant is a relaxed go to for all day American fare with a 4.3/5 rating I was
expecting a lot more than what was presented to me. The main reasons I was ill fated by this restaurant
was the eerie atmosphere, price of the food, and the overall poor service I experienced.
To begin with, the atmosphere was all but welcoming. Being new to the Flagstaff area, I was unsure of
the location of this diner. When I arrived there, I was immediately confused on if I was given the
correct address because the place I had arrived at looked rather scary. Northern Pines was a small
diner located between two sleazy hotels surrounded by three gas stations and a pub. The exterior was
unsettling to say the least with the lack of lights except for one fluorescent green light that made me
feel like I was in a bad indie horror flick. The inside, while slightly better, did not give off the
impression I had been hoping. When I walked in I was immediately engulfed by a smell similar to my
grandmothers closet, choosing to ignore it, I realized while how off putting the smell, it was not
necessarily a death sentence. Another reason the atmosphere was very uncomfortable was due to the
loudness of the workers there. For example, the

  • 2. The Influence of Roman Engineering and Architecture The ingeniousness and beauty of Roman architecture has not been lost on us in the 2000 years since it was built. Even today, we still marvel at what incredible builders the Romans were, and at the sheer scale and integrity of many of their projects. It is hard to argue that today s architecture will maintain the same lasting grandeur as that which the Romans built. If we can still respect and admire the grandeur of Rome as it was in it s day, one can only imagine how much of an influence people of the time felt, due to the incredible innovations that the Romans brought to the new regions of their empire. In fact, it is because of the superior engineering skills and architectural ideas possessed by the Romans, and respected by others, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This water was then used for the public baths and toilets, besides the expected drinking water. The fact that this water was for the public, and not reserved for private use, pleased people in the new colonies even more, and made them even more accepting of Roman control. The actual aqueducts themselves, built by the Romans to carry the water, were perhaps even more influential. Aqueducts like Pont du Gard at Nimes (Images 3 and 4), or Segovia in Spain (Image 5), the latter of which still carries water today, were monumental landmarks in the colonies where they were built and still are today. That the Romans would build such magnificent and monumental structures for the sole purpose of supplying water to its colonies was likely overwhelming to those benefiting from it. So the Romans supplied the towns with water, and made travel between towns easier. But what about improving life within the town itself? It is in the public buildings such as the bath, the forum and the amphitheater, which people used and experienced daily, where Rome was able to exert its greatest influence. The fact that these buildings were open to all and not reserved for an elitist group of society only increased their significance. It is arguable that the grandness of the baths has yet to be surpassed in any public building since. These were huge, lavishly ornamented structures where citizens would go not only to bathe, but also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It accumulated 19.3 million views in one day smashing the previous record of 12.3 million views set by One Direction (Lipshutz 1). The instant popularity of the video, resulted in many different critiques and understandings of the video. Most of the negative which is a result of her past, while others were a more positive view. Wrecking Ball begins with the melody playing and the screen focused on Cyrus face against a white background mouthing the opening lyrics. All the audience can see at this point is her face which has been made up to look almost completely natural with minimal make up, other than her striking red lips which contrasts with the pure white of the background and her pale complexion. Her normally heavily pierced ears has been reduced to just two conch earrings and this change appears to signify that she is embracing a more innocent and pure attitude instead of her normal fierce and edgy one. Another interpretation is that her lack of earrings signify a more However, what is the most noticeable are her tear filled blue eyes. How she appears at this point creates an air of confidence as it appears that she is not afraid to show her emotions. • 5. The Problem Of Organ Transplants The need for organs is a growing dilemma amongst America and countries all over the world. Thousands of people sit on waiting lists in hopes to receive a new organ never knowing if they will actually receive one before their delicate organ gives up. Although many people are willing to be donors upon the time of their own death, the shortage of organs hangs over the patients and families who deal with the reality of an organ shortage every day. One solution that has been proposed is allowing people to be able to sell their own organs in order to meet the need that is out there now. Constructing a program that allows the sale of an organ would lead to a decrease in the black market for organs, an increase in organ availability, and create a greater awareness of the need for more organ donors. Creating a program to control the sale of organs would lead to a decrease in the need for a black market. Due to a growing need of organ transplants, especially kidneys, unfortunate scenarios have come about as a result of the shortage. Out of desperation, many people in other countries have gone searching for organs overseas and even behind the scenes searching for the underground market of organ sales. In some countries like Bangladesh, brokers cut corners to coerce subjects into donating their organs when the willing donor might not even know what their organ does (Resnick, 2012). By allowing the sale of organs for those who freely want to participate in saving lives, this corrupt ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Qualitative Study Used For The Study Conducted By... The qualitative study used for the study conducted by Oster, Mayan, and Toth (2013) was ethnography. Ethnography is a method of describing a culture and the behaviours that are exhibited (Barroso Cameron, 2013, p. 179). The limitation to utilizing this research method in Oster, Mayan, and Toth s study, which primarily utilized focused ethnographies, is that the researchers may not involve participants from a similar community (2013). In order to address this aspect, the researchers should have conducted a Participatory Action Research (PAR), specifically Community Based Participatory Research (Barroso Cameron, 2013, p. 187). Like ethnography, PAR allows the researchers to work towards improving the health of their participants. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Oster, Mayan, and Toth s study found that every women interviewed had similar themes pertaining to diabetes and pregnancy, such as difficulty controlling blood sugar and overall health (2013). They also discovered the importance of improving pregnancy care in a way that will increase autonomy and available support systems (ie patient centred approach) (Oster, Mayan, Toth, 2013). These findings can help guide future nursing practice because from early on, nurses are taught the importance of patience centred, strength based care (Gottlieb, 2014). Improving strength based care in indigenous communities will allow members with gestational diabetes, let alone any other health conditions to build upon person and community assets when they are working to improve health. This process will put patients at the centre of care and allow them to be more involved in their health care and thereby gain knowledge about all aspects of personal health (Gottlieb, 2014). Additionally, when implementing patient centred care and working to promote health, it is crucial nurses and other healthcare providers involve Western medicine and culturally accepted methods of care. These methods may include cooking classes that prepare cultural dishes, developing a community vegetable garden, and implementing appropriate screening tools (Harris, Bhattacharyya, Dyck, Naqshbandi Hayward, Toth, 2013; Health Canada, 2013). • 7. Respiratory Acidosis Essay Respiratory acidosis is when the lungs are unable to remove the normal amount of carbon dioxide as the body produces it. This leads to an increase in PaCO2 (hypercapnia) which lowers HCO3. The blood becomes too acidic because of the excess amount of CO2. The average range for PaCO2 is 35 45m Hg. Respiratory acidosis is caused by an issue with the lungs ability to remove CO2 properly, a form of lung disease. Most causes are asthma, neuromuscular disorders, obesity and COPD. The lungs and the kidneys regulate the body s pH. Lungs remove CO2 and the kidneys remove acid through the urine. Treatment would include bronchodilator drugs to open airways, oxygen therapy and a breathing machine might be prescribed. A person that is much older is more likely to develop this type of disease since the strength of the kidneys and lungs has weekend with age. Also certain medications can affect the pH balance of the body. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This leads to a decline in PCO2 and increases pH. The Main cause for Respiratory alkalosis is hyperventilation which is over breathing. Panic attacks (anxiety), heart attack, drug use, asthma, fever, COPD and pulmonary embolism can cause respiratory alkalosis. Again, the lungs here are important in keeping the blood pH balanced by releasing the perfect amount of carbon dioxide. Treatment is dependent on the cause of respiratory alkalosis. For instance, if it was for anxiety you would exhale into a paper bag carbon dioxide and breathe that into the lungs. Doing this can restore the carbon dioxide back into the body. The body s pH depends on the kidneys and lungs so in elderly it is much harder to maintain this balance due to the decline in the kidneys and the lungs ability to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. A Madman s Diary By Lu Xun Analysis Many authors use their work to express their thoughts about the flaws in the societies in which they live. Lu Xun masks his criticisms of the once feudal society in China in his story, A Madman s Diary, by comparing the feudalistic society to cannibalism. The story begins with the narrator going to visit two brothers. Upon arrival, the narrator learns that the younger of the two brothers has recently been cured of madness, and moved away. The older sibling offers the narrator his brother s diary for the narrator to read. After the narrator s explanation of how he got the madman s diary, the rest of the story is composed of various entries from the diary the narrator was given. He is the only one who is seeing the true cannibalistic nature of the feudal system. The metaphor between cannibalism and feudalism is meant to convey to the readers the flaws of the feudal system without Lu Xun directly criticizing the system. Even though the madman is currently terrified of the society he is living in, he shows hope for a better future. In the last diary entry, he ponders the possibility of the nature of this society changing. He questions whether or not there are children who have not consumed other people. He says that the children need to be saved from the nature of this society of consuming other people to live. This represents Lu Xun s belief that the feudalistic society can change if the ways of that society are not taught to the children and that he has hope for the future of society. ...The narrator cultivates and maintains the courage to hope that the future for the children of China will be separate from the past (Laws 51). Lu Xun conveys a sense of hope for a better future in China through the madman s hope in the story. The madman is the only one who is truly aware of the problems of the society that they live in. Everyone else around him simply seems to accept the ways of life. Metaphorically, this is representative of how normal people are blind to the problems of the feudal system, and that it would take a madman to see the issues behind how they are living. Lu Xun uses the madman s fear of cannibalism in society to convey to readers his own fear of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During our short time of reading about her life we saw her go through so many emotions, struggles, and different changes. Throughout The Book Thief by Markus Zusak we see a girls story during the time of WW2 and the Holocaust. We read this story of Liesel Meminger and wonder how anyone could ever survive during a time like this, because for most people this was an extremely awful time to live in. But through his use of imagery, and other literary devices, Zukas found a way to write a perfect book describing this girl s life and to show how genuinely hard it was to live during this time. One of the first things we see Liesel going through is the separation of her and her mother. Which leads to her also losing her brother due to the fact that he died during their journey to Liesel s new home. This was one of Liesel s obstacles as when she says There was a chaos of goodbyes. . At first this may not look like it would be a gigantic obstacle by how it was worded. But once you read into the context of the sentence and take in how Zukas worded it to fill your mind with the imagery of Liesel s thoughts you see how hard this is for her. Her brother has just died, and on the same day that she realizes she will never see him again she is forced away from her mother and she will also never see her mother again. During this time of the book this might have been something that happened a lot, but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The person I interviewed was a second generation 32 year old immigrant from Mexico. She is a very kind person, with such an adventurous personality. My plan was to ask several questions about her life, as well as what she has faced. This is so I can learn more from her and her culture. I asked a couple of questions about her life and practices to figure out how family and changes helped her adapt to what culture she identifies with growing up. My first heading will consist of her childhood growing up, the culture she grew up with and how her family plays the important part of her culture. My second will consist on her adult changes and her identity she has formed. I will then explain how her experiences have helped shaped her through her life and what she talks about during the interview as well as any other stories she would like to contribute. To begin with, she was born in Tijuana, Mexico. She was homeschooled after she finished middle school because her parents believed it to be better for her to remain home to teach her how they see fit. • 34. Descriptive Essay About Northern Pines Restaurant Northern Pines Restaurant; Mediocre at best Looking for a new place to eat that is affordable and food that tastes amazing? If so, Northern Pines is not for you!! Do not be deceived by what is perpetrated on the web. Upon internet investigation, The Northern Pines Restaurant is a relaxed go to for all day American fare with a 4.3/5 rating I was expecting a lot more than what was presented to me. The exterior was unsettling to say the least with the lack of lights except for one fluorescent green light that made me feel like I was in a bad indie horror flick. The inside, while slightly better, did not give off the impression I had been hoping. When I walked in I was immediately engulfed by a smell similar to my grandmothers closet, choosing to ignore it, I realized while how off putting the smell, it was not necessarily a death sentence. Another reason the atmosphere was very uncomfortable was due to the loudness of the workers there. For example, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
