Mcdonald s The International Market Essay
Nowadays, we can see that there are so many companies that have grown globally and being so
successful in the international market. What makes most of the companies can be as successful as
today was not just only because of their products reputation, but also about how can those companies
develop themselves by internationalized the companies in the international market. One example of a
successful company that we can use in this case is McDonald s, which people can find this fast food
company around the world. Founded in 1940 by Richard and Maurice McDonald, this company
recently has more than 30,000 stores that can be found in more than 118 countries (James, 2009). The
simple idea of using fast food serving system as McDonald s priority made this company developed
widely. As a fact, McDonald s idea was also solved the problem of preventing people to wait for a
long time while waiting for their food in California, where McDonald s firstly opened (Success Story,
2016). Yet, all those successful things that McDonald s has recently will be possible without doing any
effort to globalize itself in the wider and global market. There are also some risks that McDonald s has
to take in order to be as successful as today. Thus, this essay will explain about how McDonald s
internationalizes itself and what are the factors that make McDonald s globalizes internationally. First
of all, before explaining about how McDonald s internationalizes itself, this essay will explain what

Social Work Essay
This essay will discuss social divisions; social exclusion and social inclusion, of which there are many
definitions and interpretations. Social divisions and Social exclusion has been around for many years.
Social exclusion was first noticed in France in 1970s in relation to people who fell outside the range of
the social insurance system, such as disabled people, lone parents and the young unemployed
(Townsend and Kennedy, 2004). Before 1997 Social exclusion was referred to as poverty , which
means where people lack many of the opportunities that are available to the average person (Palmer;
2010). However for the purpose of this assignment, it will focus on homelessness as a social division,
the relationship between exclusion and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One interpretation of social exclusion comes from the European Commission s recent Joint Report
,which states
social exclusion is a process where individuals are made to feel pushed out and prevented from
participating in society, due to poverty or lack of education. This may result in discrimination,
resulting in exclusion from jobs, an income, limited education, lack of social and community
opportunities and possibly feeling powerless (Europa, 2003).
A structural view from Field (1989) and Dahrendorf (1987) who believe it is the structures in society
that exclude people. Another, interpretation from the Social Exclusion Unit London (SEU) states
social exclusion is a shorthand label for what can happen when individuals or areas suffer from a
combination of linked problems such as unemployment, poor skills, low incomes, poor housing, high
crime environments, bad health and family breakdown (SEU 1997). Pierson (2010) suggests that
poverty, low income, lack of access to the job market, low or non existent social support, the effect of
the area and the exclusion from services are all ways to socially exclude people from society.
Thompson (2010) believes that social location affects people s life chances, due to where people are
born and where they live, arguing that people have no choice/control over what position they are
within society and depending on their location within the structure

Planned Approach to Change
Kurt Lewin and the Planned Approach to Change:
A Re appraisal
Bernard Burnes
Manchester School of Management
 The work of Kurt Lewin dominated the theory and practice of change management for
over 40 years. However, in the past 20 years, Lewin s approach to change, particularly the 3 Step
model, has attracted major criticisms. The key ones are that his work: assumed organizations operate
in a stable state; was only suitable for small scale change projects; ignored organizational power and
politics; and was top down and management driven. This article seeks to re appraise Lewin s work and
challenge the validity of these views. It begins by describing Lewin s background and beliefs,
especially his commitment to resolving ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The article concludes by arguing that rather than being outdated, Lewin s Planned approach is still
very relevant to the needs of the modern world.
LEWIN S BACKGROUND
Few social scientists can have received the level of praise and admiration that has been heaped upon
Kurt Lewin (Ash, 1992; Bargal et al., 1992; Dent and
Goldberg, 1999; Dickens and Watkins, 1999; Tobach, 1994). As Edgar Schein
(1988, p. 239) enthusiastically commented:
There is little question that the intellectual father of contemporary theories of applied behavioural
science, action research and planned change is Kurt Lewin.
His seminal work on leadership style and the experiments on planned change which took place in
World War II in an effort to change consumer behaviour launched a whole generation of research in
group dynamics and the implementation of change programs.
978 B. Burnes
Blackwell Publishing Ltd 2004For most of his life, Lewin s main preoccupation was the resolution of
social con flict and, in particular, the problems of minority or disadvantaged groups. Underpinning this
preoccupation was a strong belief that only the permeation of democratic values into all facets of
society could prevent the worst extremes of social conflict. As his wife wrote in the Preface to a
volume of his collected work published after his death:
Kurt Lewin was so constantly and predominantly preoccupied with the task of advancing the

Mistakes In Bernard Malamud s The Natural
Mistakes are common enough that everybody in human history has suffered them they may range
from the small scale simple arithmetic errors on a test to the faux pas in a socialite dinner that can cost
a company a deal with a potential customer. While these faults are costly at first, learning from them
as to avoid foolishly repeating the past is a must. In the novel The Natural by Bernard Malamud, the
main character Roy Hobbs does not follow the aforementioned advice and echoes his mistakes in both
the two lives another character, Iris, mentions, who classifies the first to make mistakes and the second
one to learn from those mistakes and move on. While Roy s first life is riddled with suffering, his
second revival induces a fleeting happiness that soon gives way to prior mistakes repeated; this shines
in stark contrast with Iris , ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As an ambitious pitcher on his way to a Chicago Cubs tryout, Roy Hobbs strikes out The Whammer,
the best hitter in baseball at the time. This draws the attention of Harriet Bird to him and his athletic
abilities; when she asks him about his future aspirations, his response is: Sometimes when I walk
down the street, I bet people will say there goes Roy Hobbs, the best there ever as in the game. His
hubris and greed for glory is what leads to his ultimate downfall blinded by his arrogance and need for
fame, he is seduced by Harriet in Chicago, where she invites him to his own funeral and shoots him at
point blank range. He succumbs to his love of women and is gullible enough to believe her, naïve
enough to fall for her coy words and he suffers for it. His first life is filled with suffering, mistakes
that he needs to learn from lest he suffer again a second time in his following

William Shakespeare s Richard II
Shakespeare s history plays are not his most popular plays, but through them Shakespeare comments
on a controversial topic in a Christian England: the belief of a divinely appointed king. Under the rule
of Richard II, a troubled England began to question loyalty to a flawed but rightful and divinely
appointed king. The presence of Bolingbroke, a strong, popular leader who seemed much more fit for
the crown than Richard II, furthered the country s lack of confidence in Richard II. In Shakespeare s
earliest history play Richard II, Richard II presents a weak but legitimate king who faces against the
strong warrior Bolingbroke who wants the crown, even though he would be an illegitimate king.
When Shakespeare wrote Richard II, England ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many people in the play are aware of this, but Bolingbroke decides to act on it. He correctly accuses
the Thomas Mowbray and Richard II of killing the Duke of Gloucester, and Richard II has both
Bolingbroke and Mowbray banished. This is confusing because Mowbray followed the king s orders
to kill the Duke of Gloucester, and it is an important point to remember when comparing Henry IV to
Richard II. These early actions of Richard II portray him as a slimy, unjust king who typically does not
gain the audience s support. As the play continues, Richard II continues to fail at being a just king.
Through Bolingbroke s father, John of Gaunt, the audience discovers that Richard has spent all of
England s money and has been leasing out royal land. Gaunt dies while Bolingbroke is banished, and
Richard II neglects the fact that Bolingbroke is the legal heir to Gaunt s possessions and takes all of
Gaunt s land to fund his army. The Duke of York warns Richard II about this decision and tells him
that it is illegal, but Richard II is an arrogant king who thinks he can do what he wants since he is
divinely appointed. At this point in the play, Richard II is more unjust than he was at the beginning of
the play, and he has committed actions that make it easy for the audience to side with Bolingbroke. In
the beginning of the play, Bolingbroke takes the role as the voice of the people. He recognizes that
Richard II is a corrupt king, and he acts upon this

Hatshepsut s Impact On The Pharaohs Of Egypt
When we think of the great pharaohs of Egypt, we often think of King Tut and Ramses II, and when
we think of great female pharaohs, we think of Cleopatra. However, one of Egypt s most prominent
pharaohs is none of the above. Arguably one of the most underrated pharaohs in terms of their overall
impact on Egypt is Hatshepsut. Born to King Thutmose I by the principal wife and queen, Hatshepsut
married her half brother Thutmose II at age 12. After the death of her husband, her stepson and next in
line to the throne, Thutmose III, was too young to take the throne, so Hatshepsut took over the reign of
Egypt. Hatshepsut was the first female pharaoh with full power over Egypt and was also the longest
reigning female pharaoh. Hatshepsut is an important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She proved herself to be a warrior by travelling to new lands, and had accomplished many deeds
during her trip to Punt.
The expedition was conducted to obtain myrrh and frankincense trees: thirty one trees provided resin
and incense needed for temple ceremonies and everyday use (e.g. mummification, medicinal aids and
perfumed oils), and to establish a trade route: Punt was rich in exotic products (ivory used for making
amulets, inlays for furniture and headrests; woods such as ebony for temples and tomb furniture; live
animals such as the sacred baboon, monkeys and apes; animal skins; and metals such as gold used for
making electrum and jewellery).
Hatshepsut is an important figure in Egyptian society based on her determination as a pharaoh during
her expeditions to Punt by excluding the middleman, bringing goods back to Egypt, and establishing a
trade route. She showed determination through her successful trading expeditions, her innovation in
building monuments, and her tenacity in proving herself as a powerful female

The Debate Over The Controversy Of Abortion
When taking the emotional aspect out of the abortion argument, what premise would most support
individual liberty? The debate over the controversy of abortion continues because of its frequency of
occurrence, and the cultural, legal and religious status that varies extensively in different parts of the
United States. While the emotional arguments regarding abortion can be compelling, but should have
no bearing in the legal discussion, the individuals rights to life and liberty should be held above all.
Thanks to the vast knowledge in the medical field, there is a point when it becomes irrefutable that
two lives and their liberties must be considered and protected under the US Constitution. The abortion
industry should be entirely privatized, acknowledge a child s right to life, and be held on a civil level
that reevaluates the point of simply ignoring clear medical and physical realities. Advocates
identifying themselves, as pro choice believe that choosing to have an abortion are a mother s right
and should not be limited by the government or religious authority. The mother s right to autonomy
supersedes the right of a preborn inherent right to life. Opposed to this are pro life supporters, who
believe that the fetus s personhood begins at the time of conception. The government has a
responsibility to preserve all human life, and that rights of personhood should be granted. Putting
religion and social views aside, there is irrefutable evidence of potential for

Should Alcohol Advertising Be Restricted
In today s society, alcohol has become the most commonly used drug in our world. These two
passages are about whether alcohol advertising should be limited. The proponents said that alcoholic
beverage advertising should be restricted. In addition, the opponents claim that alcohol ads do not
promote underage drinking. Both sides have given ample reasons to justify their views. The pros who
persist that alcohol advertising should be restricted have their sound reasons. There are two strong
scientific evidences suggest that influence of alcohol advertising are not limited to brand selection by
adults. The first point lies in the research conducted by Joel W. Grube and Lawrence Wallack suggests
that awareness of alcohol ads leads to favorable beliefs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both views have strong foundations; but, overall, I tend to agree with the latter that alcohol
advertising do not promote underage drinking. There are three factors to explain underage drinking.
Firstly, a bad home environment can affect children s perception. If children grew up in the home
where alcohol consumption is acceptable, for example, so it have a reason to think that they are
already familiar with the products they see on television. I think parents and schools should to teach
children that minors should not drink, rather than ban advertising. In another word, alcohol advertising
did not seem to be impact on them. Secondly, advertising is protected by the constitution; this is
known as commercial free speech, and the Supreme Court upheld that statement. Thirdly, there is no
denying that genetic factors influence underage drinking. A study has shown that children of
alcoholics are 4 to 10 times more likely than other children to become alcoholics too. Therefore, we
should not attack alcohol advertising because it can be ignored, so let s pay attention to the specific
reasons why minors drink

This allows your cardiovascular centres in your brain a little bit more latitude as far as controlling
your heart rate. If you were to remove a beating heart from someone s body you would find that the
heart is no longer being suppressed by the parasympathetic nervous system and it will accelerate to the
same pace as the sinoatrial node. The SA node generates action potentials approximately 100 times per
minute due to the physiology of the heart, its own permeability to sodium and calcium via its
channels, and a host of other things. Anywhere between 80 to 100 beats per minute is normal for the
SA node.
7. What are two key differences between cardiac muscle and skeletal muscle?
cardiac is involuntary, skeletal is voluntary cardiac is unstriated, skeletal is striated
8. What is the difference between the effective refractory period and the relative refractory period?
The effective refractory period is the time in which the cell is incapable of responding to a second

is making preparations to receive stimulus between phase 3.5 4.
9. When the heart is externally stimulated just after the start of the contraction cycle, why does this

This is because once a contraction has started, the action potential has already fired, stimularing the

It s Time for an International Ban Genetically Modified Humans
If you could ensure that your future children would be healthy, would you? This is a trivial question
because most parents would stop at nothing to ensure that their children are healthy. Human germ line
engineering may soon make it possible to alter the genome of human embryos permanently changing
the genetic blueprint for every cell in an embryo s body. Through human germ line technology we
could eradicate many debilitating genetic diseases (e.g. Tay Sachs disease, cystic fibrosis etc.), prevent
cancer, and even increase the average life span. Human germ line engineering is prenatal and produces
genetically modified traits that can be passed along to subsequent ... Show more content on

However, researchers generally agree that germ line engineering will be possible within the next
twenty years (Rabino 153). When the technology does develop, the procedure for germ line
engineering will be similar to that of in vitro fertilization. For example, a couple wishes to have a
child, but they have reservations about naturally conceiving because both of their families have a
history of cystic fibrosis. They decide that the use of germ line engineering would be the best way for
them to ensure they produce a healthy child. First, the couple will go to a clinic and some of the man s
sperm and some of the woman s eggs will be harvested. These sex cells will then be taken to a
laboratory and in a Petri dish the man s sperm will be induced to fertilize the woman s eggs. These
fertilized eggs will then be allowed to develop up to the eight cell embryonic stage. At this point one
cell from each eight cell embryo will be removed for genetic testing (this does not cause significant
harm to the embryo s development because the cells are not yet differentiated into the different types
of tissue). If the genetic tests come out positive for the defective gene that causes cystic fibrosis, the
diseased embryos will undergo genetic surgery. In genetic surgery, through various intricate methods,
the defective gene is basically spliced out of the

Gays are going to rot in hell! Gays need to all die. In the past, these were all common teaching taught

He was the second billionaire of his time. Just like Henry Ford, his main motivation was to create a
product that would be used by everyone around the world, and positively change the way people
compute; he explains in his biography, Guided by a belief that the personal computer would be a
valuable tool on every office desktop and in every home, they began developing software for personal
computers. This was a huge step up from the weak, and commonly used Mac OS, which was released
by Apple Computers earlier. Over a short period of time, Microsoft s new product became very
popular for its simplicity in operation. Millions of people around the world decided to switch to
Microsoft Windows. The sudden change from Mac OS to Windows was incredible. Bill Gates product
became such an important tool to businesses, homes, and schools. His foresights in the change of the
computer industry were a large part of his success, Gates foresight and vision regarding personal
computing have been central to the success of Microsoft and the software industry.
Microsoft was able to knock out all of its competitors easily. Bill Gates strategy was to promote all of

Symbolic Role Played by Cosmic Imagery in Romeo and Juliet Cosmic imagery and allusions to stars
have been used for centuries to describe divine and supernatural events on earth. In the play Romeo
and Juliet, by William Shakespeare, cosmic references are used to amplify the deep emotions of love
Romeo and Juliet feel for each other. Vivid cosmic imagery intensifies emotions of love and hate,
bringing the play to life. Cosmic references include the idea of fate written in the stars, Romeo and
Juliet s blossoming love revolving around stars and the ironic role played by celestial objects, leading

Their abandonment of stars leads to their early demise as they attempted to control their own lives.
Stars are known for their beauty and dazzling effect which is related to fate as well. This idea of fate
enhances their love for each other and the cosmic imagery adds a beautiful touch.
Later, Romeo foreshadows his untimely demise in Act 1 when he claims Some consequence yet
hanging in the stars/ shall begin his fearful date. (1.4.107 108). Romeo knows that it is fate who
directs his sail, but his trust in the stars quickly diminishes throughout the play, although his frequent
references to cosmic objects remain. They both believe in fate, but as trouble arises from their
relationship, they lose hope and deny the stars as guides. Cosmic imagery is used by Romeo and Juliet
to describe each other, adding a sense of unique intimacy to their love. But the stars never fated for
them to be together for eternity, ruining their majestic love story. Throughout Romeo and Juliet s
flourishing relationship, celestial imagery is used when talking about each other and bringing out the
pure love they have for one another. Through a combination of metaphors, personification, poetry,
similes, and allusions, their emotions for each other are shown with celestial imagery being the center
theme of their love. Romeo speaks delicately about Juliet s eyes when he acclaims Two of the fairest
stars in all the heaven, (2.2.15) Romeo refers

Persuasive Speech On Surveillance
ppose you re walking home one night, alone, and you decide to take a shortcut through a dark alley.
You make it halfway through, when suddenly you hear some drunks stumbling behind you. Some of
them are shouting curses. They look large and powerful, and there are several of them. Nonetheless,
you feel safe, because you know someone is watching.
You know this because you live in the future where surveillance is universal, ubiquitous and
unavoidable. Governments and large corporations have spread cameras, microphones and other
tracking devices all across the globe, and they also have the capacity to store and process oceans of
surveillance data in real time. Big Brother not only watches your sex life, he analyses it. It sounds

Instead of blanket bans in dangerous research areas, we could allow research to proceed and use
surveillance to catch bad actors and bad practices. We might even see an increase in academic
freedom.
Surveillance could also be useful in smaller, more conventional disasters. Knowing where everyone in
a city was at the moment an earthquake struck would make rescue services much more effective, and
the more cameras around when hurricanes hit, the better. Over time, all of this footage would increase
our understanding of disasters, and help us to mitigate their effects.
Indeed, there are whole new bodies of research that could emerge from the data provided by mass
surveillance. Instead of formulating theories and laboriously recruiting a biased and sometimes
unwilling group for testing, social scientists, economists and epidemiologists could use surveillance
data to test their ideas. And they could do itFROM HOME , immediately, and have access to the world
s entire population. Many theories could be rapidly confirmed or discarded, with great benefit to
society. The panopticon would be a research

We Must Not Regulate the Internet Essay
The Internet is the first thing that humanity has built that humanity doesn t understand, the largest

the internet. In fact their estimated total economic influence they have had on the world, it is close to

One of the best things about this global network of computers is that no one person actually owns it.
The internet literally belongs to the people. In its simplest terms, the internet is really just a large
number of computers, called nodes, connected together with network switches and routers. In fact the
very name of it is derived from interconnected networks. Some of these nodes have special programs
to enable other client nodes to connect to it and exchange information with it. These computers,
known as servers, can host any sort of information to exchange. Some host e mail, some web pages,
and others can host FTP (file transfer protocol). (Tyson)
Privacy on the internet is not the government s responsibility.
The resent explosion of the popularity and use of the internet, we now face a new treat to our privacy.
A lot of the concern over privacy however is generated more from people who have had negatives

Psychological Theories Of Assault
Assault is a violent crime that requires offensive touching, hitting, or frightening the victim by word
or deed. Assault crime can be upgraded to a felony when weapons are involved or abusing a victim
during the commission of a felony. Although assault can happen during crimes like robbery and
homicide, abuse happen mostly within a family or relationship (for example child abuse, parental
abuse, dating violence).

Sociological Accounts on Individuals Acquiring Their Identities
The concept of identity has been defined as A sense of self that develops as the child differentiates
from parents and family and takes a place in society (Jary and Jary, 1991.) Through the process of
socialization, individuals acquire their identities, but this issue cause different understandings
according to sociological accounts. Here, I will show these accounts, and make an analysis understood
by me.
The definition refers to the sense that some one has or who they are, of what is most important about
them. Important sources of identities are likely to include nationality, ethnicity, sexuality (homosexual,
heterosexual, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Symbolic Interactionism
Symbolic Interactionism sees the actor as more active in acquiring an identity. It claim to society has a
range of diverse social roles and identities (e.g. the roles of students and teachers). Every role has
certain behaviours, and certain rules. However, these roles can change. Symbolic Interactionism sees
identities as more flexible.
The issue is interactionists underestimate the range of human behaviours which are restricted. The fact
is not so ideal as what they image. Things can be changed, but not all the things can, or not all the
people can change certain things. What s more, they ignore the identity of structural reasons (e.g. the
unequal right between male and female) in shaping the society.
Marxism
Marxism points most societies are based on exploitation of some groups by others. Those who own
the mean of production (ruling class) exploit those who work for them, who lack the means to produce
things themselves (subject class). (Haralambos and Holborn, Sociology Themes and Perspectives AS
and A Level Student Handbook , chapter 1, p2)
Marxists do not agree with functionalism and interactionism for underestimating the importance of
power to impose roles. They emphasizes the class differences in people acquiring their identities, but
ignore other important source of identity such as, gender, sexuality, age, etc.
Moreover, Marxism

Odysseus A Hero Research Paper
In the Merriam Webster dictionary a hero is described as a mythological or legendary figure often of
divine descent endowed with great strength or ability. Renowned author R.L Hunter depicts a hero as
The heroes of epic should be, if not idealized or perfect figures, at least admirable ones who inspire in
listeners and readers an awe and a desire, however misplaced or unrealizable, to imitate; heroes should
be exemplars of moral and physical action. These are two definitions of a hero that describe
exemplary character. According to the definition of a hero, the main character of the Odyssey,
Odysseus is not a hero. While odysseus fits some standards of a hero, he holds specific traits that
cause him to not be a hero. By definition, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many reasons that Odysseus should not be a hero, by definition Polyphemus is a hero in
Blindness. From Polyphemus s point of view, He welcomed strangers into his home, fed them, and
was nothing but kind. If in the Odyssey Polyphemus is the Villain and Odysseus is the Hero, What
does that make Odysseus if he was the one who stabbed and robbed Polyphemus blind. Odysseus also
exaggerates his stories to turn them around to make him sound like a hero. This makes his storytelling
unreliable. Reliability is also a very important and heroic trait, that Odysseus does not possess. While
Odysseus is a strong and intelligent leader, his lack of remorse keeps him from being a good hero. The
Odyssey is full of examples of Odysseus feeling no remorse towards the sacrifice of his men, Then
Scylla made he strike, whisking six of my best men from the ship. I happened to glance aft at ship and
oarsmen and caught sight of their arms and legs, dangling high over head. Voices came down to me in
anguish, calling my name for the last time. While Odysseus may seem like a brave, strong and smart
hero, is he a hero to everyone? His shipmates see him as a leader, but a leader who isn t not afraid to
sacrifice men. This leads the reader to belies that it s less admiration but fear that clounds their
perception of Odysseus. To Penelope Odysseus is a hero, because of she knows nothing of the betrayal

I Am A Great Leader
Leaders are everywhere and when I think of great leaders I have had the pleasure of interacting with,
the first ones that come to my mind are my Grandparents, Virgil and June Watts. After my first
thought, my mind floods with many other people who I consider great leaders but my Grandparents
are always the first that I think of as great leaders. My Grandpa taught me about hard work, respect,
the importance of family, and the ability to understand you may not always get along so you have to
learn to compromise sometimes. My Grandma taught me how to love, give to others, cook, and
provide for ourselves and others with what we have available. One of the most important thing my
Grandparents taught me though was, to have a passion and put one hundred percent into it. My
Grandpa with his love of music and entertaining people with playing music and my Grandma with her
love of sewing and making beautiful dresses and quilts.
I spent many nights and days with my Grandparents and often see them as playing the biggest role in
the person I turned out to be. When it comes to personal values and morals, I ve shaped most of mine
from what they have shown me. Although we disagree politically, I learned so much from them about
what it means to be a great leader. They taught me honesty, even when it gets myself in trouble.
Loyalty, is another trait that I learned from my Grandparents, even if it means standing up alone. They
taught me compassion, having the ability to show everyone kindness

Bird’s Eye- view of Foucauldian Perspective to Commercial...
Michel Foucault was a French philosopher or a historian of systems of thought. His theories addressed
the relationship between power and knowledge, and how they are used as a form of social control
through societal institutions. Through his impressive career Foucault became known for his many
demonstrative arguments that power depends not on material relations or authority but instead
primarily on discursive networks. The sole purpose of the present research paper is to evaluate the
power relations which exist within the hierarchies and the workers. The Foucauldian perspective plays
an important part in terms of an understanding of power, despite the fact that it is very different to
fully comprehend the meanings behind Foucault s works. (McHoul and Grace, 1993, viii) A
Dictionary of Political Thought (1983) commented on power as: The ability to achieve whatever effect
is desired, whether or not in the face of opposition. Power is a matter of degree: it can be conferred,
delegated, shared and limited...power may be exercised through influence or through control...power
is an undisputable fact... (Scruton, 1983) Power varies according to the individual s wants and
requirements for it. It can be exercised either by influence or by control. It exists in multifarious
forms. Power is totally dependent on relationships. Power is neither given, nor exchanged, nor
recovered,

Evidence Of Negligence
There are three essential elements that are required for an action for negligence to considered. It must
first be established if the defendant owed the plaintiff a duty of care, that there was a breach of that
duty of care and that the plaintiff suffered a loss caused by the breach of duty. As Michael was
repairing a bike for a client, he did owe his client Paul a duty of care. As stated in the problem,
Michael was distracted and neglected to properly secure the front wheel after finishing his repairs, this
is a breach of the duty of care on Michael s part. Paul also suffered a loss caused by this breach of
care. This means that all three essential elements required are established for a case of negligence.
Further evidence of this is seen

A credit licensee (that is, the holder of an Australian Credit Licence, commonly referred to as an ACL

credit licensee when engaging in credit activity. Under the NCCP Act, credit activity includes:

We will do so by running through a number of checkpoints , as set out below. Checkpoint 1 whether
the loan is regulated What is a regulated loan? Many credit licensees provide credit in both the
regulated and unregulated space. The term regulated is used for consumer loans and leases as they are
regulated by the National Credit Code (NCC), which is a schedule to the NCCP Act. Loans and leases
will be regulated under the NCCP Act if, amongst other things, it is provided or is intended to be
provided wholly or predominantly for personal, domestic or household purposes or to refinance
residential investment property. Generally, this means that unless the loan applicant (referred to as the
borrower in this course) is clearly able to establish that the finance will be used predominantly for
business purposes, the loan should be treated as a consumer regulated loan. This also means that the
responsible lending obligation to assess unsuitability applies. Practical tips In practice, this means a
credit provider needs to make reasonable inquiries from each borrower as to the purpose for which
they will be using the borrowed funds. If the credit will be used for personal, domestic or household
purposes, the loan must be originated as a consumer loan, and compliance with the responsible
lending obligation to assess

  • 5. Mcdonald s The International Market Essay Nowadays, we can see that there are so many companies that have grown globally and being so successful in the international market. What makes most of the companies can be as successful as today was not just only because of their products reputation, but also about how can those companies develop themselves by internationalized the companies in the international market. One example of a successful company that we can use in this case is McDonald s, which people can find this fast food company around the world. Founded in 1940 by Richard and Maurice McDonald, this company recently has more than 30,000 stores that can be found in more than 118 countries (James, 2009). The simple idea of using fast food serving system as McDonald s priority made this company developed widely. As a fact, McDonald s idea was also solved the problem of preventing people to wait for a long time while waiting for their food in California, where McDonald s firstly opened (Success Story, 2016). Yet, all those successful things that McDonald s has recently will be possible without doing any effort to globalize itself in the wider and global market. There are also some risks that McDonald s has to take in order to be as successful as today. • 6. Social Work Essay This essay will discuss social divisions; social exclusion and social inclusion, of which there are many definitions and interpretations. Social divisions and Social exclusion has been around for many years. Social exclusion was first noticed in France in 1970s in relation to people who fell outside the range of the social insurance system, such as disabled people, lone parents and the young unemployed (Townsend and Kennedy, 2004). Before 1997 Social exclusion was referred to as poverty , which means where people lack many of the opportunities that are available to the average person (Palmer; 2010). However for the purpose of this assignment, it will focus on homelessness as a social division, the relationship between exclusion and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One interpretation of social exclusion comes from the European Commission s recent Joint Report ,which states social exclusion is a process where individuals are made to feel pushed out and prevented from participating in society, due to poverty or lack of education. This may result in discrimination, resulting in exclusion from jobs, an income, limited education, lack of social and community opportunities and possibly feeling powerless (Europa, 2003). A structural view from Field (1989) and Dahrendorf (1987) who believe it is the structures in society that exclude people. Another, interpretation from the Social Exclusion Unit London (SEU) states social exclusion is a shorthand label for what can happen when individuals or areas suffer from a combination of linked problems such as unemployment, poor skills, low incomes, poor housing, high crime environments, bad health and family breakdown (SEU 1997). Pierson (2010) suggests that poverty, low income, lack of access to the job market, low or non existent social support, the effect of the area and the exclusion from services are all ways to socially exclude people from society. Thompson (2010) believes that social location affects people s life chances, due to where people are born and where they live, arguing that people have no choice/control over what position they are within society and depending on their location within the structure ... • 7. Planned Approach to Change Kurt Lewin and the Planned Approach to Change: A Re appraisal Bernard Burnes Manchester School of Management  The work of Kurt Lewin dominated the theory and practice of change management for over 40 years. However, in the past 20 years, Lewin s approach to change, particularly the 3 Step model, has attracted major criticisms. The key ones are that his work: assumed organizations operate in a stable state; was only suitable for small scale change projects; ignored organizational power and politics; and was top down and management driven. This article seeks to re appraise Lewin s work and challenge the validity of these views. It begins by describing Lewin s background and beliefs, especially his commitment to resolving ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The article concludes by arguing that rather than being outdated, Lewin s Planned approach is still very relevant to the needs of the modern world. LEWIN S BACKGROUND Few social scientists can have received the level of praise and admiration that has been heaped upon Kurt Lewin (Ash, 1992; Bargal et al., 1992; Dent and Goldberg, 1999; Dickens and Watkins, 1999; Tobach, 1994). As Edgar Schein (1988, p. 239) enthusiastically commented: There is little question that the intellectual father of contemporary theories of applied behavioural science, action research and planned change is Kurt Lewin. His seminal work on leadership style and the experiments on planned change which took place in World War II in an effort to change consumer behaviour launched a whole generation of research in group dynamics and the implementation of change programs. 978 B. Burnes Blackwell Publishing Ltd 2004For most of his life, Lewin s main preoccupation was the resolution of social con flict and, in particular, the problems of minority or disadvantaged groups. Underpinning this preoccupation was a strong belief that only the permeation of democratic values into all facets of society could prevent the worst extremes of social conflict. As his wife wrote in the Preface to a volume of his collected work published after his death: Kurt Lewin was so constantly and predominantly preoccupied with the task of advancing the ... In the novel The Natural by Bernard Malamud, the main character Roy Hobbs does not follow the aforementioned advice and echoes his mistakes in both the two lives another character, Iris, mentions, who classifies the first to make mistakes and the second one to learn from those mistakes and move on. • 9. William Shakespeare s Richard II Shakespeare s history plays are not his most popular plays, but through them Shakespeare comments on a controversial topic in a Christian England: the belief of a divinely appointed king. Under the rule of Richard II, a troubled England began to question loyalty to a flawed but rightful and divinely appointed king. The presence of Bolingbroke, a strong, popular leader who seemed much more fit for the crown than Richard II, furthered the country s lack of confidence in Richard II. In Shakespeare s earliest history play Richard II, Richard II presents a weak but legitimate king who faces against the strong warrior Bolingbroke who wants the crown, even though he would be an illegitimate king. When Shakespeare wrote Richard II, England ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many people in the play are aware of this, but Bolingbroke decides to act on it. He correctly accuses the Thomas Mowbray and Richard II of killing the Duke of Gloucester, and Richard II has both Bolingbroke and Mowbray banished. This is confusing because Mowbray followed the king s orders to kill the Duke of Gloucester, and it is an important point to remember when comparing Henry IV to Richard II. These early actions of Richard II portray him as a slimy, unjust king who typically does not gain the audience s support. As the play continues, Richard II continues to fail at being a just king. Through Bolingbroke s father, John of Gaunt, the audience discovers that Richard has spent all of England s money and has been leasing out royal land. Gaunt dies while Bolingbroke is banished, and Richard II neglects the fact that Bolingbroke is the legal heir to Gaunt s possessions and takes all of Gaunt s land to fund his army. The Duke of York warns Richard II about this decision and tells him that it is illegal, but Richard II is an arrogant king who thinks he can do what he wants since he is divinely appointed. At this point in the play, Richard II is more unjust than he was at the beginning of the play, and he has committed actions that make it easy for the audience to side with Bolingbroke. In the beginning of the play, Bolingbroke takes the role as the voice of the people. He recognizes that Richard II is a corrupt king, and he acts upon this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Hatshepsut s Impact On The Pharaohs Of Egypt When we think of the great pharaohs of Egypt, we often think of King Tut and Ramses II, and when we think of great female pharaohs, we think of Cleopatra. However, one of Egypt s most prominent pharaohs is none of the above. Arguably one of the most underrated pharaohs in terms of their overall impact on Egypt is Hatshepsut. Born to King Thutmose I by the principal wife and queen, Hatshepsut married her half brother Thutmose II at age 12. After the death of her husband, her stepson and next in line to the throne, Thutmose III, was too young to take the throne, so Hatshepsut took over the reign of Egypt. • 11. The Debate Over The Controversy Of Abortion When taking the emotional aspect out of the abortion argument, what premise would most support individual liberty? The debate over the controversy of abortion continues because of its frequency of occurrence, and the cultural, legal and religious status that varies extensively in different parts of the United States. While the emotional arguments regarding abortion can be compelling, but should have no bearing in the legal discussion, the individuals rights to life and liberty should be held above all. Thanks to the vast knowledge in the medical field, there is a point when it becomes irrefutable that two lives and their liberties must be considered and protected under the US Constitution. The abortion industry should be entirely privatized, acknowledge a child s right to life, and be held on a civil level that reevaluates the point of simply ignoring clear medical and physical realities. Advocates identifying themselves, as pro choice believe that choosing to have an abortion are a mother s right and should not be limited by the government or religious authority. The mother s right to autonomy supersedes the right of a preborn inherent right to life. Opposed to this are pro life supporters, who believe that the fetus s personhood begins at the time of conception. The government has a responsibility to preserve all human life, and that rights of personhood should be granted. These two passages are about whether alcohol advertising should be limited. The proponents said that alcoholic beverage advertising should be restricted. In addition, the opponents claim that alcohol ads do not promote underage drinking. Both sides have given ample reasons to justify their views. The pros who persist that alcohol advertising should be restricted have their sound reasons. There are two strong scientific evidences suggest that influence of alcohol advertising are not limited to brand selection by adults. The first point lies in the research conducted by Joel W. Both views have strong foundations; but, overall, I tend to agree with the latter that alcohol advertising do not promote underage drinking. There are three factors to explain underage drinking. Firstly, a bad home environment can affect children s perception. If children grew up in the home where alcohol consumption is acceptable, for example, so it have a reason to think that they are already familiar with the products they see on television. I think parents and schools should to teach children that minors should not drink, rather than ban advertising. In another word, alcohol advertising did not seem to be impact on them. Secondly, advertising is protected by the constitution; this is known as commercial free speech, and the Supreme Court upheld that statement. Thirdly, there is no denying that genetic factors influence underage drinking. A study has shown that children of alcoholics are 4 to 10 times more likely than other children to become alcoholics too. Therefore, we should not attack alcohol advertising because it can be ignored, so let s pay attention to the specific reasons why minors drink ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The SA node generates action potentials approximately 100 times per minute due to the physiology of the heart, its own permeability to sodium and calcium via its channels, and a host of other things. Anywhere between 80 to 100 beats per minute is normal for the SA node. 7. What are two key differences between cardiac muscle and skeletal muscle? cardiac is involuntary, skeletal is voluntary cardiac is unstriated, skeletal is striated 8. What is the difference between the effective refractory period and the relative refractory period? The effective refractory period is the time in which the cell is incapable of responding to a second stimulus between the phases of 0 3.5, while the relative refractory period is the time in which the cell is making preparations to receive stimulus between phase 3.5 4. 9. When the heart is externally stimulated just after the start of the contraction cycle, why does this have no affect on heart rate? This is because once a contraction has started, the action potential has already fired, stimularing the muscle fibers. Once they

It s Time for an International Ban Genetically Modified Humans If you could ensure that your future children would be healthy, would you? This is a trivial question because most parents would stop at nothing to ensure that their children are healthy. Human germ line engineering may soon make it possible to alter the genome of human embryos permanently changing the genetic blueprint for every cell in an embryo s body. However, researchers generally agree that germ line engineering will be possible within the next twenty years (Rabino 153). When the technology does develop, the procedure for germ line engineering will be similar to that of in vitro fertilization. For example, a couple wishes to have a child, but they have reservations about naturally conceiving because both of their families have a history of cystic fibrosis. They decide that the use of germ line engineering would be the best way for them to ensure they produce a healthy child. First, the couple will go to a clinic and some of the man s sperm and some of the woman s eggs will be harvested. These sex cells will then be taken to a laboratory and in a Petri dish the man s sperm will be induced to fertilize the woman s eggs. These fertilized eggs will then be allowed to develop up to the eight cell embryonic stage. At this point one cell from each eight cell embryo will be removed for genetic testing (this does not cause significant harm to the embryo s development because the cells are not yet differentiated into the different types of tissue). If the genetic tests come out positive for the defective gene that causes cystic fibrosis, the diseased embryos will undergo genetic surgery. Odysseus also exaggerates his stories to turn them around to make him sound like a hero. This makes his storytelling unreliable. Reliability is also a very important and heroic trait, that Odysseus does not possess. While Odysseus is a strong and intelligent leader, his lack of remorse keeps him from being a good hero.
