1. Goals Essays
Crafting an essay on the theme of "Goals Essays" can be a challenging endeavor, as it requires a
delicate balance between personal introspection and the ability to articulate one's aspirations
effectively. The difficulty lies not only in the articulation of goals but also in the thoughtful
analysis of why these particular objectives hold significance.
Firstly, delving into personal aspirations demands a level of self-awareness that can be
challenging to achieve. One must navigate the intricacies of introspection, identifying not only
the tangible objectives but also the underlying motivations that drive these ambitions. This
requires a deep understanding of oneself, a process that can be both enlightening and, at times,
uncomfortable.
Next comes the challenge of translating these personal goals into a coherent and engaging
narrative. It is not merely a matter of listing aspirations but rather a task of storytelling, making
the reader not just understand but emotionally connect with the significance of these objectives.
Finding the right balance between humility and confidence, showcasing ambition without
appearing arrogant, adds an additional layer of complexity to the writing process.
Moreover, the essay must go beyond the "what" and delve into the "why." Explaining the
rationale behind each goal demonstrates a level of critical thinking and foresight that elevates the
essay. It requires the writer to reflect on how these goals align with personal values, experiences,
and long-term vision.
The challenge is not just in the composition of the essay but also in the vulnerability it demands.
Sharing personal goals inherently involves exposing one's dreams and ambitions to scrutiny. This
openness can be intimidating, and the fear of judgment may pose an additional hurdle for the
writer.
In conclusion, writing an essay on "Goals Essays" demands a profound exploration of the self,
adept storytelling skills, and the courage to share personal aspirations openly. It's not just an
exercise in articulation but a journey of self-discovery and communication. As challenging as it
may be, the process can be immensely rewarding, fostering personal growth and providing a
roadmap for the future.

2. European Influence Of The Kongo Empire
The Kongo Empire was part of an extensive trade network that connected much of
Africa to other regions. These trade routes brought wealth to not only the kingdom
but also the attention of European traders, specifically the attention of the
Portuguese. Due to European influence, specifically that of the Portuguese, the
Kongo empire fell during the reign of Nzinga Mbemba in 1665. Through
depopulation due to the dramatic increase in the slave trade, the changes in religious
influence and eventual colonialism, the Kongo dissolved into Portuguese territories.
European influence was not always negative in the Kongo Empire. King Nzinga a
Kuwu was the ruler at the time of the first arrival of the Portuguese, was impressed
by the Europeans and established an active connection. Eventually, he converted,
along with his son and wife, to Christianity due to the influence of the embassies.
While a desire to increase trade privilege most likely motivated this conversion, it set
the tone for the empire (Bentley 413). Later, Nzinga Mbemba, the son of Nzinga a
Kuwu, used the northeastern territory as a refuge for the Portuguese when tensions
increased before Mbemba became king. Once taking the throne, Mbemba becomes
Kings Afonso and claims that he won against his half brother, who was his
competitor due to a vision (Gesink 9/12). Through the letters that Mbemba wrote to
the King of Portugal throughout his reign, it was clear that he was a firm Christian,
ending his letters with, Pray Our
3. Disney s Aladdin
(1) In the Disney s Aladdin, a street rat named Aladdin is the hero of the movie.
Aladdin s birth and childhood is rather an unusual one and to state it in
mythological terms, he belongs to the world as he grows up without both of his
parents. Moreover, he has neither money nor a home, so to survive in the world he
learns to steal and lives in an abandoned building with a view of the beautiful Palace,
where he sits and dreams of becoming rich one day.
(2) Aladdin receives his call to adventure when an evil sorcerer named Jafar gets
Aladdin imprisoned for stealing. However, Jafar s real motive behind arresting
Aladdin is to have Aladdin go collect a lamp for him from the Cave of Wonders. (4)
To be free from jail, Aladdin accepts the offer and crosses the threshold when he
enters the Cave of Wonders. The Cave of Wonders as named shows Aladdin many

As Jafar gets a hold of the genie he uses his wishes to become the most powerful
Sultan. Aladdin battles Jafar and his magical powers to rescue all he is keeping
captive. Aladdin is finally able to trap Jafar by persuading him into making a wish
to become a genie. Later, Aladdin sucks that Jafar genie into a lamp and throws the
lamp out into the Cave of Wonders, turning everything back to normal and ultimately
winning the battle. (9) After fulfilling his promise of freeing genie, Aladdin from his
prince life returns back to his normal self of being just an ordinary man.
(10) The elixir or the gift everyone gains is love. Aladdin s love for genie, which
made him wish for genie s freedom instead of his dreams. Sultan s love for his
daughter, that persuades him to change the law of who a princess may marry.
Lastly, it s the love of Jasmine and Aladdin. (11) The home is now a happy place
where genie is free, Jasmine and Aladdin are married, and Aladdin is now the next
Sultan and no longer a street
4. The Attack Of The Bomb
The bombs dropped one by one as I watched in disbelief from my front porch. The
Koreans had been planning this attack for years, but with their high security and
privacy for their country, we only found out the day before. Once we heard the
news of the attack, people tried to flee, but most didn t make it very far. I had lived
in Italy for years without having any huge problems to deal with, but this was a
different story. The bombsdestroyed a full fifty mile radius from where it was
dropped all the way out. Not all the bombs succeeded in their full explosion, so it
was just a matter of hope that the bombdropped over us didn t explode to its full
potential. The Koreans moved quick and never looked back to check on how much
damage they... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I had heard before that Italy didn t have a great relationship with Korea, but we didn
t learn about foreign affairs in the small amount of school time we had. In school we
mostly focused on reading, writing, and math and went one day a week for three
hours. However, with all the commotion in the country, school had been cancelled for
a while until everything was settled back to normal.
One day as Isaac and I were wondering along the streets that headed to the bay, we
saw an Italian militia heading straight towards us. The picture I saw then could
have been in my worst nightmare. Isaac, being his mere eight year old self, hid
behind me in fear.my first instinct was to run back to my house and hide, but
before I could turn my shoulder, the soldiers confronted me. They asked me where
my parents were and why I was out alone. At first I wanted to lie and say that I was
just stopping by a friend s house to puck something up, but I decided not to take that
risk. Instead, I told them the bare truth about my parents and that we were just
wandering around to get some exercise. The soldier at the front (probably the
General) responded with an offer. His offer was for us to work for the militia and we
d receive a decent meal and a place to stay. I consulted with Isaac and we both
agreed that accepting the offer would be the best option for both of us.
We accepted the offer and followed the soldiers to where we would be staying. We

5. The Chorus In Oedipus
The Greek tragedy, Oedipus the King, instills in the audience a participatory element
by virtue of the Chorus and its interluding stasima that acts as internal commentary;
an agent, giving advice, warning, questioning as they look to Oedipus to take actions.
So, in many ways, they are agents of action yet they are aware of their own
limitations and their questioning. They are elders in this play, as they conduct
questioning and reconciliation of what Oedipusthinks and what he stands for. The
chorus also serves to establish ethica framework, setting up standard by which action
will be judged (Chorus Oedipus, 2008, p. 15). The chorus does this through their
inquisitive language which oftentimes is shocking and very emotional, which adds
tension and drama to the framework of the play. This paper will discuss how
Sophoclesuses the chorus as a dramatic instrument for suspense, of irony and of
contrast.
The Chorus is a very important part of Sophocles famous play Oedipus the King For
example, in Parodos (Oedipus the King, lines 151 212), the Chorus evokes a series
of gods for help, describing the bad conditions in Thebes and then asks Zeus to
defend Thebes from Ares, the war god (Oedipus the King, lines 170 202). They utter

Through the Chorus Sophocles is able to add a great deal of suspense, irony and
contrast to the story. They are the commentary, the advisors, the questioners, the
conscience, the fearful and the ignorant. They are also very powerful stage openers as
they introduce characters that are about to approach Oedipus. Overall, the chorus
keeps the audience feeling that Oedipus is not alone because the communal voice of
the chorus is guiding his actions and reactions during the unfolding of the
6. Rhetorical Devices In Speech To The Redfern Speech
Undoubtedly it is through the form and content of a text that authors communicate
universal values in light of the contextual experiences of their time
By utilising rhetoric, convincing speakers are able to portray the unjust human
experience of their context captivating the audience expounding values such as peace,
unity and justice. Anwar Sadat s Speech to the Israeli Knesset and Paul Keating s
Redfern Speech reinforce the significance of injustice within their societies,
prompting for social change. By engaging the audience through rhetoric devices these
speeches evoke a personal response from the audience, transforming the practices and
perspectives of their audience, bringing to the fore universal values in the light of
their present contextual discriminations.
Through intellectual and rhetoric qualities, intuitive responses are able to provoke
social change. In 1977 on the 20th of November Anwar Sadat s radical Speech to the
Israeli Knesset emphasised achieving justice on fair terms, ultimately establishing a
basis for international peace and Peace in the Middle East during the tense Arab
Israeli conflict. Sadat utilises various devices of repetition to reinforce the main
thematic concern of permanent peace and justice , expounding Logos through the
immense detailed when laying out the conditions for peace. Moreover, as both
countries were highly religious Sadat utilises the Pathos of religion to unite
individuals, Muslims, Christians and Jews (who all)

8. The Influence Of The Renaissance Witch Hunts
Renaissance Witch Hunts The witch hunts took place during the 1450 s to the
1750 s, most notably in England and Salem, Massachusetts. They also took place
in Italy and other smaller places in the United States. women were always witches,
almost never men and there were a ridiculous amount of things that would accuse
you of being a witch. If you wore black, you were a witch. If you enjoyed reading,
you were a witch. If you had a mole/birthmark, you were a witch. The reasons go on
and on but I won t bore you with that.
What is witchcraft/witches Witch craft is defined as a form of sorcery and often
portrayed as a sign of the devil, the practice of magic, especially black magic; the use
of spells and the invocation of spirits, according to the dictionary. Unfortunately, this
is not a concrete answer because the definition would imply this being a bad thing.
The existence of glinda the good witch contradicts this statement. Also the wicca
religion makes the definition a little questionable because they don t necessarily
practice witchcraft with evil intent. They do match up with the things that would
make you a witch,(Connecting with nature and other things) they don t match the
stereotypical look of a witch with the large and deformed nose, pointed hat and
broom flying abilities. We don t have a clear cut idea for what witchcraft is but, we
have a general idea as to what it is.
As to what witches are, they are people who practice/is accused of practicing
witchcraft and

Ujjayi, means victorious, or to conquer.
It encourages a deep opening into the lungs and is often referred to as ocean breath

constrict the throat, creating resistance, which in turn creates a sound similar to
waves crashing on a beach. The benefits are it helps you find a balance of strength
and calmness. The long, slow breath creates stillness in your mind, while the depth of
this breath helps you ground down and get in touch with your inner strength. It
increases the body’s internal heat, and it builds energy and encourages a
meditative quality, and it helps to relieve anxiety.

muscles around the throat. Sit in a seated position with your spine long, shoulders
back and down. Have your palms on your thighs, facing down. Press your palms into
your thighs and start to open the shoulders and heart.
Take a deep breath in through the nose, and on your exhale, release the breath out
through the mouth with a haaa sound. Take another deep breath in, and this time
lengthen your spine up through the crown of the head. As you exhale, slowly slide
your hands toward your knees with the fingertips wide. Open your mouth wide and
let out a long haaa. Take another deep breath in through the nose. On the exhale, stick
out your tongue, point it down to the ground. Let out that haaa sound again. 5) Sitali

are feeling stressed. It also helps reduce bad breath, reduce fevers and help to lower
blood pressure.
10. Qualitative Research Philosophy
Overview: This section explains the research philosophy, the literature survey for this
research, data collection technique, data analysis approach and the overall process of
the research. It started by gather the general insights that were relevant to the
research; derived the information into a research topic; brief explanation about how
the researchwas conducted, how the data was collected through experiment, how the
data was analysed and concluded.
3.1. Research Philosophy
The main idea of the research was built upon a general insight that was gathered by
reviewing a number relevant literature and research papers. Therefore the
perspective of the research was an objective view, instead of subjective view, which
was built on a personal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Research Process
This research adopted the sequential process model, therefore the research was
executed in a fixed and continuous sequences (Dawson, 2009).
1.Identify the wider knowledge
The wider insight about relational and non relational database performance,
particularly MySQL and Hadoop was gathered through the literature survey. By read
textbooks, reviewing academic journals and research papers, I founded a gap in the
performance of relational database compare to the non relational.
2.Determine research topic
Research topic was derived from the understanding of query processing in MySQL
and Hadoop, the database performance issues, performance tuning and the
importance of database performance. Thus, it was decided to develop a comparative
analysis to observe the effectiveness of the performance of MySQL (non cluster) and
Hadoop in structured and unstructured dataset (Rosalia, 2015). Furthermore, the
analysis included a comparison between those two platforms in two variance of data
size.
3.Define research approach
A deductive reasoning was applied in a controlled experiment to verify the theory: In
read and write operation, MySQL has a better performance compare to Hadoop in
structured dataset, while Hadoop has a better performance compare to MySQL in
unstructured dataset (Rosalia,
11. Pursuing a Career as a Physician
On the eve of my fifth birthday, my mother was rushed to the hospital for an
emergency C section. On this night, my sister was born two and a half months
premature with a gastrointestinal blockage that sent her straight to the operating
room and kept her in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for over three months.
Unfortunately, I only had the opportunity to visit my sister a handful of times; my
parents adamantly claimed the hospitalwas no place for kids . The fact that the
hospital was off limits to me peaked my curiosity about what transpired behind the
closed doors. I yearned to understand the roles the doctors and nurses played in
helping my sister come home. I also longed to see my parents smile and converse
in their usual, carefree manner. These months were extremely difficult, as I
struggled to grasp the rich complexity of the situation. At a tender age, I was
exposed to the frailty of life and the stresses of illness on a family. Moreover, I
developed a reverence for the physicians who enabled my sister to come home and
live a normal, healthy life.
At the age of ten, there was another medical emergency within my family. My uncle
flew to Miami from Jamaica to undergo a delicate cardiac procedure. Her spent the
following two months recovering at my home. I did not understand the science
underlying his condition, but I recall him being in severe pain. I wanted to help in
any way I could, so I tended to his needs before and after school; I prepared his meals

what basis?
Part three:
1. Why was it useful to be able to verify the source of the water? 2. Why would a

Snow s hypothesis than two neighborhoods each with their own source? 3.
Epidemiologists often draw causal webs to illustrate the interrelationships among
biological, social, and environmental variables that contribute to disease outbreak.
Based on what you have learned so far, what variables should be included in a
causal web for cholera? 4. Snow considered his conclusions about cholera to be
inferences from observations whereas the reviewer from the medical journal
considered these to be conjectures. What is the difference between inference and
conjecture?

13. Polarization In America Essay
Lately, America has become divided by a single issue; one which appears to be so
polarized, that no one can compromise on it. Just kidding, there are a lot of those
kinds of issues americans can t agree upon. We are separated by race, language and
ideas. Continuously homogenized and then filtered apart again into different
groups and identities. So many conflicting interests clashing against each other in a
never ending battle. Yet despite all that, America is held up as a pillar of
democracy, freedom, liberty, opportunity; in America, you can be anything you
want if you work at it. This is what we are lead to believe, if you work hard enough
eventually you will be rewarded and make money. This may or may not be true but it
s beside the point.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Quindlen suggests an answer for the second questions, that the American psyche
revels in the doing the impossible and the demanding and so savor the impossibility
of this conglomerate that is America. Another part of us identifies with them, as the
current immigrants are similar to our own forefathers. In her poem, Emma Lazarus
eloquently states this. Give me your tired, your poor, Send these, the homeless,
tempest tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door! (Lazarus) She uses one of
America s biggest symbol of hope and freedom, Lady Liberty, as a beacon to draw
attention to the fact that America is made up of immigrants. Ethnicity and race are not
the only things that divides us however. Dividing us further still is geography,
religion, politics and lifestyle. We must focus on our idea of whatever we think
America is or should be, even though they may differ from somebody else s idea. It
is the only way that we can hope to survive attacks and

Planned Parenthood Overview
Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Inc. (PPFA), better known as Planned
Parenthood is a non profit organization that provides reproductive healthcare and
education in the United States and globally. The non profit s history is rooted in
Brooklyn, New York, where Margaret Sanger and her sister Ethel Byrne opened the
first birth control clinic in the U.S in 1916, later founding the American Birth Control
League in 1921, which changed its name to Planned Parenthood in 1942 (Planned
Parenthood, 2016). Moreover, Planned Parenthood was founded on the revolutionary
idea that women should have the information and care they need to live strong,
healthy lives and fulfill their dreams no ceilings, no limits (Planned Parenthood,
2017).
Overall, the main purpose for Planned Parenthood is providing reproductive health
services and education to the community, assisting in global health advancement, and
fighting for protection and expansion of reproductive rights.

15. Why Children Admire Analysis
With each new generation that enters our world, our elder generations must take on
the responsibility of constructing a better future for the next generations that follow.
Each person, each child, has a purpose and it is our job as adults to help refine and
guide our youth to come in connection with it. Children learn through the modeling
of others. Modeling is a mere form of admiration and desire. In the realm of a childs
admiration, they develop a desire to work towards being what it is that they have
grown to admire. They observe, interpret, and analyze every piece of new things.
Each little detail exhibited to a child is distinctively dissected and is ultimately the
driven force behind why a child chooses to model behind a certain person and
display certain actions. If a child admires a person, they take on the characteristics
of who they admire to be more like them. Even if an adult does something
subconsciously, a child may be consciously mimicking that action. The demonstrated
values and social skills are simply a child s way of actively practicing what is seen.
In order for our children to learn they must personally experience situations,
experience different feelings, and encounter different matters. Just because one
person may have been through a situation and may have been successful at handling
that situation, does not mean that that holds true for another individual who may be
in that same situation. Piaget once said that knowledge is acquired by experience
16. Antarctica Ice Sheet Trends
The ice sheets in Antarctica and Greenland are changing rapidly and are contributing
significantly to sea level rise (Church et al., 2011). In Greenland, surface melt leading
to runoff and enhanced ice discharge from outlet glaciers have contributed in equal
amount to the mass loss of the ice sheet (van den Broeke et al., 2009). In Antarctica,
ice dynamics has been the dominant contributor to the mass loss in recent decades,
but surface mass balance signal exhibits inter annual fluctuations large enough to
significantly modulate the mass loss. In the mountain glaciers of Alaska, Canada,
Patagonia and others, surface mass balance (SMB) processes dominate the total mass
balance (Larsen et al., 2015). Projecting the contribution of ice sheets... Show more

While its prime goal is to bridge the data gap between ICESat 1 (2003 2008) and

Topographic Mapper (Krabill et al., 2012) (1993 present), ERS 1/ENVISAT (1992
present) and continued with Cryosat 2 (2010 ). As a secondary objective, OIB
provides observations of variables critical to the interpretation of the altimetry
record, including: ice thickness from the Multichannel Coherent Radar Depth
Sounder (MCoRDS) (Leuschen et al., 2016), snow accumulation and firn structure
from accumulation and snow radars (Leuschen, 2015; Leuschen et al., 2016),
surface topography from Digital Mapping System (Dotson et al. 2014),
bathymetry beneath ice shelves from airborne gravity and magnetics using
Sanders Geophys. Ltd s AIRGrav (Cochran et al. 2016; Tinto et al., 2011; Tinto et
al., 2014). As a result of these efforts since OIB inception in 2009, we have
obtained continuous time series of altimetry observations over Greenland and select
sectors of Antarctica (e.g. Krabill, 2016; Blair et al., 2015; Csatho et al., 2015), a
quantum leap in our knowledge of ice thickness, bed elevation in Greenland
(Morlighem et al., 2014 and 2015) and in select sectors of Antarctica (e.g. Rignot et
17. The Gold Bridge And The Bridge Collapse
Silver Bridge
4.1 Background
The Point Pleasant Bridge or so called the Silver Bridge was designed by the J.E.
Greiner Company and built by the Gallia County Ohio River Bridge Company to
connect Point Pleasant, West Virginia to Gallipolis, Ohio. It was designed as a two
lane eye bar suspension type bridge, measuring 2,235 feet in total length, including
the approaches. The bridge was the first eye bar suspension bridge of its type to be
constructed in the United States. [26] Figure 4.1: The Bridge before collapse. [26]
During the early evening of December 15, 1967, the Silver Bridge collapsed during a
period of heavy traffic and 46 people were killed. Another nine people were injured.
Of the 37 vehicles on the bridge, 31 fell during the collapse. After some forty years
of service, the Point Pleasant Bridge collapsed without warning. [27] Figure 4.2:
The Bridge after collapse. [26] The bridge was constructed of carbon steel, which
tends to crack. Many cracks were found throughout the bridge among extensive
corrosion. Upon investigation, it was found that the collapse was due to a
defective eye bar that experienced a cleavage fracture in the lower part of its head
which was resulted from stress corrosion and corrosion fatigue. [26] Since the eye
bars were not designed to be redundant, failure in one eye bar would disrupt the
continuity of the suspension system. This disruption is what caused the bridge to
collapse suddenly. The location of the flaw
18. Qin Dynasty Impact
The Qin Dynasty and the Han Dynasty each have significant points throughout
history where time has felt their impact that was left. It began in 221 B.C.E, when the
Qin Dynasty was traveling around lands, defeating rivals and unifying China. Shortly
thereafter, the king of the Qin Dynasty officially created, and changed, his title to
Emperor (McKay, 184). The Emperor of the Qin Dynastywas incredibly important as
he was the individual who would create the regulations, enforce reporting
requirements, and enact penalties for poor work performance (McKay, 185). It
was also during this time that a mandated census was adopted which provided a lot
of benefits including assistance of cost estimates for public works, increased tax
revenues, and more labor force that was available for building projects. A big
advantage as well was the thousands of miles of roads that... Show more content on

This was also a very important time for the emperor. He believed there was much
slander that existed so a man by the name of Lisi burned all the negative information
that anyone had, or was out, about the Emperor (McKay, 186). When this emperor
died, he installed Terra Cotta warriors in his specialty tomb to have them protect him
into the afterlife. The Qin State finally fell apart in 210 after the death of the first
emperor and failed to make an impact after. The Han Dynasty was the other dynasty.
It was led by Emperor Gaozu (202 195 B.C.E). He was a favorite here because he
did what other leaders had not done in the past, and that was to either eliminate
laws or to amend the laws to help his people. The Government of the Han Dynasty
was supported heavily by taxes, as well as forced labor of farmers. After Emperor
Wu took over in the Han Dynasty there were many other lucrative creations such as
coin minting, land confiscation, as well as the selling off important offices and

Background Explanation of Epigenetics
Epigenetics
What is epigenetics? Epigenetics is a term that was coined by Conrad Waddington
that describes the heritable changes in the cellular phenotypes that are observed
independently of alterations that occurs in the DNA sequence (Dawson Kouzarides,
2012). He proposed that there was a link between development and genetics, which is
where the field of epigenetics came from. The word epigenetics itself was derived
from a Greek word epigenesist. Epigenesist is the theory of development that
proposed the early embryo was undifferentiated. The broad meaning of epigenetics
would be defined as the unfolding of the genetic program for development. However,
Waddington s definition of epigenetics was not much different than that of
embryology (Holliday, 2006). Over time the definition of epigenetics has evolved into
the study of heritable changes in gene expression that occurs independently of the
changed in the primary DNA sequence (Sharma, Kelly, Jones, 2010). Ernst Hadorn,
another scientist that became important in the study of epigenetics for his research
with Drosophila, and the discovery of the imaginal discs. These discs were
completely undifferentiated cells that existed during development. Hadorn later went
on to determine that each of these imaginal disc developed into symmetrical parts of
the adult structure. This led Hadorn and
21. Cricothyroid Stereotypes
Regardless of gender, humans tend to start their lives with similar capacities and
productions. All genders are born with a larynx, our primary organ for vibration,
which biologically functions to keep air flowing through the respiratory system and
keep foreign objects out. Additionally, children s vocal foldshave an average
fundamental frequency, or vocal fold vibration, of 250 Hz per second. However, the
larynxalso has the nonbiological function of acting as a vibratory source for speech.
This is a complex system and so produces a lot of variety in speech, particularly
between men and women. Therefore, vocal production becomes indicative of how a
person is perceived, partially based on societal assumptions. For cisgender individuals
this results in an accurate representation, but transgender individuals are often

Cricothyroid approximation involves moving the cricoid cartilage backward and
upward and thyroid cartilage forward and downward.
The cricothyroid allows the thyroid to rock while the cricoid is stationary, causing
the folds to stretch; performing surgery on it brings the cartilages closer together,
increasing tension, and thereby allows one to achieve a more desired pitch. This
surgery is done through a neck incision, which makes the Adam s apple look smaller,
possibly giving the individual a more preferred look in addition to the pitch change.
For Commissure advancement, a center strip of the anterior commissure is cut from
the thyroid cartilage. The vocal cords are then detached in the subperichondrial plane,
and the cartilage strip is advanced and secured using a metal splint (American, 2003).
A successful surgery tightens and increases tension in the vocal folds. Commissure
advancement and endolaryngeal shortening can increase one s fundamental
frequency by 40 to 50 Hz (American,

During the nineteenth century, many new revolutionary ideologies and philosophies
rose up to European countries. One of these ideologies was liberalism and a major
advocate for liberalism is John Stuart Mill. John Stuart Mill was a English
philosopher who was known for his ideas expressed on his writings. On Liberty,
Utilitarianism, and The Subjection of Women are some of his great writings where
he illustrates how he believes the government should be and how society must be run.
Mill believed in a limited lenient government where people could do what they desire
to do without the government trying to intervene, and society should be run as a
utilitarian society. Mill believed the government should be run where the people

Mill s Utilitarianism was an essay that emphasized and supported the value of
utilitarianism as a moral theory. Mill defines utilitarianism as to prove an action is
right if it tends to promote happiness. Mill defines happiness as pleasure and the
absence of pain. Mill argues that utilitarianism coincides with natural sentiments that
originate from humans social nature. Therefore, if society were to embrace
utilitarianism as an ethic, people would naturally internalize these standards as
morally binding. Mill argues that happiness is the sole basis of morality, and that
people never desire anything but happiness. Furthermore, Stuart Mill decided to
fight for women s right because of the ideas of utilitarianism. Mill had an early
attempt to include women in the voting reform bill of 1867 but unfortunately failed.
As a result, Mill publishes The Subjection of Women of 1869. He argued that the
legal subordination of one sex to the other was simply wrong and must be
prohibited. His major belief towards women right was to prove how women were
due not to different natures but to social practices and equal education could help
women achieve as much as

24. Essay on Laurent Clerc
Perhaps one of the most notable and widely known members in Deaf society is
Laurent Clerc, who was a teacher for the deaf. Born on December 26, 1785 in La
Balme les Grottes, in southeastern France to hearing parents, it is unknown for
sure whether Clerc was born deaf or was deafened later on in life. It is believed
that Clerc became deaf at the age of one when he had fallen from his high chair
into a fire, badly burning his cheek. He developed a fever from the burn, and was
later found out to have lost his sense of smell and hearing. As far as it is known,
Clerc was non speaking and relied on pen and paper to those who could not
communicate using sign language. For the first eleven years of his life, Clerc was

However, during the 52 day journey he made it a point to master the use of the
English language. This knowledge paired with the use of French Sign Language
contributed greatly to evolution of American sign language. Together, Clerc and
Gallaudet founded the first deaf school in the United States, what is now known as
the American School for the Deaf in Hartford, Connecticut. The school opened on
April 15, 1817 with Gallaudet serving as the principal and Clerc as the head teacher.
Aside from teaching the students, Clerc was responsible to training the future
teachers and administrators of the School. He was sent to other schools throughout
the United States to continue to teach his methods to both students and prospective
teachers, and his influence on teaching the deaf spread widely throughout the United
States. Though Laurent Clerc had originally planned of staying the United States for
only three years and then returning to his native France, Clerc married a former
student of his and decided to settle in the states. He did, however, return to his
homeland to visit. After 50 years of teaching for the deaf, Clerc retired from
teaching in 1858. He died at the age of 84 on July 18, 1869. The legacy of Laurent
Clerc is long withstanding. As the first teacher for deaf individuals, he pioneered a
system of teaching the deaf that carries on today. Without him, the American School
for the Deaf may not have come to fruition. By offering classes in sign
25. Essay about Advertising Messages to the Global Society
Advertising and its existence in today s society has made a huge transition over the
years. With the move from an industrial to consumer society, advertising is ever
present in selling goods that we claim to need and want . This essay will explore
how advertising and the messages they convey are related with the global society.
Firstly it is important to explore the concept of advertising and its link with the
consumer culture we live in today. Advertising is greatly linked with the growth of a
consumer culture and the mass migration from the rural to the urban. The shift from
an industrial society to a consumer society was helped by advertising. This is further
iterated by Slater (1997) who proposed that consumer culture is linked to ... Show

This conveys the transition within society, seeing a shift from offering information to
offering a transformation of lifestyle instead. It no longer focuses on the product
attributes but more on consumer attributes and how the product can change and
transform lifestyles rather than simply being just a product. In the early 20th century
the concept of being modern was seen as great, selling a successful lifestyle through
the idea of being modern; new and exciting. It aimed at persuading individuals that
being modern was linked to the notion of success and reaping rewards; leading to a
richer, greater lifestyle. Contemporary advertising now focuses its context more on
visual imagery rather than text, however, still aiming at reproducing consumption
(Maguire, 2010).
Therefore having looked at the basis of advertising and its shift in methods and
what we are being sold , it is now important to explore how advertising associates
itself with the concept of the global. Advertisers aim to go global with ad
campaigns in order to create greater success. As stated by Holt, Quelch and Taylor
(2004), When a brand is marketed around the world, that fact alone gives it an aura
of excellence and a set of obligations. To maximise the value of global reach,
companies must manage both . This point can be proven by many companies in
today s consumer society. The aim to be a global
26. Advancements in the Field of Genomics
The field of genomics is quickly and steadily gaining momentum in the field of
systematics. Based on an organism s genetics, it applies novel methods of DNA
sequencing and bioinformatics to sequence, construct, and analyze the structure, and
consequently, the function, of entire genomes, using the resulting genetic information
from different specimens in fine scale genetic mapping. Advancements in other fields
such as human biomedicine may also be dependent on progress made in genomics,
especially unresolved problems focused on changes in genes triggered or disrupted in
development, susceptibility to infectious disease, mechanisms of DNArecombination
and genomeplasticity which cannot be adequately interpreted without a precise
evolutionary context or hierarchy.
One of the most well known and supported endeavors in the advancing field of
genomics is the human genome project whose creation has since revolutionized the
related fields of proteomics and medicine with comparative genomic analyses of
primate species offering considerable potential in defining the processes responsible
for molding and transforming the human genome. In spite of these scientific
advancements, however, very little information is known about genomes in some
species like the primates. Primate taxonomy is both complex and controversial with
close to nothing in terms of unifying consensus of the evolutionary hierarchy of
extant primate species. This lack of knowledge of the specific hierarchies in

Effects of Media on Society
Media violence has numerous negative consequences on youth today to commit
criminal acts in the society.
Violence in the media will never be stopped as long as the society spends more time
on violent movies and video games.
Media violence has been tremendously growing and attaining the hazardous extents.
Around 60 % of TV shows contain some kind of violence. Most self involving video
games contain some violent matter in it. For example, if you manufacture guns, you
do not need to give any advertisement, because it is done by the amusement
industry. Aggressive behavior, desensitization to violence, hallucinations, and fear
of being mishandled were caused by the media violence, was explained in a 2009
Policy Statement on Media Violence, by the American Academy of Pediatrics
(Arline, 2012). The increase in aggressive behavior happens by watching violent
video shows on TV, and by playing violent video games.
The researchers found that boys and girls who played a lot of violent video games
changed over the school year. Media violence is not probable to convert a child
into a violent criminal. But, someday by just smoking a cigarette can increase the
likelihood of a lung cancer. Likewise, a violent show can increase the likelihood of
behaving in an aggressive way (Bushman and Huesmann, p. 248). There are many
reasons to be worried about the level of violence in the society, it is clearly simplistic
and confusing to hold that the major cause of criminal

Programs
Role of Federal Government
Federal Government has the ability to create positive change in many social welfare
systems. The support of the government ultimately determines the success of a social
welfare program. They play an important role in the decisions of how funds are
allocated and the importance of these various vulnerable populations. The federal
government is used as a tool, to help implement and support social welfare
programs. However, from my own opinion, it is sometimes lacking in the proper
support needed in many aspects. This is caused by a plethora of reasons, not to say
that the government is completely unsupportive. Yet, there may be a gap in the
perception of these social issues. The government puts in place laws, regulations,
system structures, and so on. Therefore, because the government are the
implementers of how our country is ran, it is their responsibility to be a main facets
in the support of the gaps that inevitably occur. Nonetheless, it can be difficult to
understand the needs of these population s and the reality of their hardships. Most in
a position of power, such as the federal government, have not experienced the severity
of the many situations, that results in individuals needing assistance from these social
welfare programs. Moreover, it is essential that there is outreach to these populations.

The NBA makes a profit in many ways, for example the NBA makes millions of
dollars off of sponsorships, television contracts and selling merchandise. The
National Basketball Association recently signed a new TV agreement with TNT
and ESPN to approximately make $2.6 billion per season. Even with a total of 400
or so odd active players making an average of close to $5 million annually, national
TV contracts generate enough revenue to cover salaries and then some.
This graph depicts league revenue of the National Basketball Association from the
2001/02 season to the 2014/15 season (Statistica, 2016). As seen the chart above
clearly indicates the NBA makes a profit and has been gradually increasing
throughout the years, except for the season of 2011/12 but that s because the season
was shorted due to the lockout that had taken place.
The NBA has many different sponsors. Sponsorship spending On the NBA Totals

If you don t have an ID for your pet, the start of a New Year is a great time time to
invest in a identification tag for you pet that has their name on it as well as your
contact information.

#4 Groom Your Pet On A Regular Basis
Finally, make sure that you keep up on your pet s grooming this year.
If you have a dog, sit with it and brush its coat at least once a day. This will only
take a few minutes to do every day and will result in multiple positive benefits. If
you brush your dog s coat everyday, more of their lose fur will end up on their
brush instead of around your house. Brushing your dog everyday should reduce the
amount of fur around your house. Additionally, it will help spread the oils on your
dog s skin to their fur, which will help keep their fur looking and feeling healthy.
Finally, its a great way to bond with your dog.
You can also brush your cat as well on a daily basis if they will let you. Many cat s
prefer to groom themselves, but if you start young, your cat should allow you to
groom it as well.
Remember grooming extends to your pet s teeth as well. At least once a week, you
should brush your dog or cat s teeth with a toothbrush and toothpaste specifically
designed for pets. You can also stay on top of their dental healthy by providing them
with treats and chewy toys that are designed to specifically combat tarter and keep
their teeth
36. Literary Theme Of Self Identity Essay
In Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbird, Lee writes, before I can live with other folks I
ve got to live with myself. The one thing that doesn t abide by majority rule is a
person s conscience (Lee, 108). As displayed in To Kill a Mockingbird and many
others, the literary theme of selfidentitycoupled with coming of age has been a long
running one in the history of literature. Certainly, we find this theme in novels such
as Between Tides and Shadows of Your Black Memory, respectively. The
development of character and self identity is vital in the analysis of each protagonist.
Between Tides follows Pierre Landu, a black Catholic Priestand revolutionist, on a
journey to right his wrongs through rigorous self examination. Pierre, having rejected
his African ancestry during adolescence, in attempts to integrate into the Catholic
Priesthood finds himself dissatisfied with the priesthood during his adult years. In
attempts to reconnect to his cultural roots he joins a revolutionist movement to
deconstruct colonialism in his African nation. Through growth and the tumultuous
discovery of self, Pierre recognizes that there is no easy resolution in rediscovering
himself or Africa. Similarly, Shadows of Your Black Memory, is largely about a
young boy s journey into adulthood. Shadows is retold through the memory of the
adult version of the young boy. Unlike Pierre, the Narrator, who is never a given a
name is strikingly aware of the cultural and social parallels in which his

Penis enlargement is the cornerstone of male enhancement. As the concept grows in
popularity, scientists, researchers, and physicians have begun to explore the reasons
behind the popularity. Most often, men wish to improve their confidence, especially
in the bedroom. Current studies are now finding that men may be seeking to improve
their penis size because of a subconscious factor that is not widely recognized.
Is Penis Envy Really the Cause of Penis Enlargement Popularity?

Is Penis Envy at Fault for You?
If you are a man who is seriously considering penis enlargement, do you understand
your own motivations? Many men simply jump into the procedure without truly
knowing themselves and what their subconscious desires are. It is normally in these
instances that penis enlargement goes awry, and is not as effective. If you are not
sure why you wish to enlarge your penis, you need to spend some time being honest
with yourself and your needs. Penis enlargement is a real commitment, a lengthy
procedure, and something which cannot be taken lightly.
The Most Common Reasons for Penis Enlargement
Size is not the only issue men deal with, but also shape. The condition known as

Inequality causes problems by creating fissures in societies, leaving those at the
bottom feeling marginalized or disenfranchised. Nicholas Kristof. Many individuals
spend their entire childhood participating in a variety of sports that their parents sign
them up for. You start with Little League, then move into competitive leagues and
then high schoolsports. Some individuals play both competitive leagues and high
school sports at the same time. These sports are either individual sports like
swimming, to group activities like football, baseball, and lacrosse. Statistics show
that kids start sports between the ages of 6 and 7 years old. In 2008, 30% of
youths between the ages of 6 12 were active in organized sports, by 2015, the
youths between 13 17 years old had dropped from 42% to 39%. In order to achieve
something you need to be passionate about it. By truly finding excitement in what
you love, makes you work hard and strive for greatness. With the progression of
sports, society has encouraged and enjoyed watching athletes from all different age
groups. Based on a current study from the NCAA recruiting facts, only 2 % of high
school athletes are awarded scholarships.. These athletes work hard during their four
years of high school maintaining their grades in order to play in the hopes that they
get selected to play in college. Some of these students need a scholarship in order to
attend college, because they can t afford it. The scholarships to colleges, usually
cover full tuition and fees, room and board, and books. According to Lauren

39. A Rhetorical Analysis Of An Email
Analysis
The email has been evaluated on its use of language and expression, tone and
organisation. In analysing the language and expression, the sentence in line 1 the
seminar was meant for managers was unnecessary. It may be deciphered by other
staff members as being boastful and breed ill feelings. In line 2, boss can be better
phrased with higher management in expressing the idea of a higher authority.
The evaluation on overall tone was informal and not respectful towards to the
recipients. From line 14 to 15, the tone of the sentence was informal in putting
across the message of asking his fellow colleagues to cut down on their frequency
of checking emails. This would also deem as not respectful by the recipients. In
line 18, the use of yap as a slang for yes was unacceptable as well. From line 23 to
25, the phrase by the way should not be used in communicating in workplace. The
tone of sentences between line 23 to line 25 was sarcastic and adopts an arrogant
attitude towards the recipients. In line 32, the sentence it really works, try it! was
not appropriate in a formal email to promote the skills he was sharing. The sentence
Too bad I have to miss this one in line 35, was an expression of his feelings which
was unnecessary. Lastly, he should not be signing off with cheers since this was
supposed to be an formal and informative email. This makes the email informal and
seems to be having a conversation with his friends and not his ... Show more content

This email was not well organised with overly long sentences and irrelevant
information found in the email. From line 6 to 9, the sentence being overly long is
tiring to read and should be split into 2 or 3 shorter sentences to put the point
across to the recipients more effectively. In line 23, there is a spelling error of the
word lovely instead of likely . From line 34 to 36, the content is unrelated to the
purpose of the email and should be
40. The Challenges of Taking Dell Private
By exploring the possibility of going private, Dell appears to hope that it can finally
fix the problems that have led to a 40 percent plunge in stock price over the last five
years.
There s one problem, however: Going private may not be all that easy or help out the
company in the end.
The effort is under way, people briefed on the matter have confirmed to DealBook,
with Dell talking with private equity firms and exploring obtaining bank financing. It
s unclear how long it will take to reach a completed deal, though reports have
suggested it may take nearly two months.
But a leveraged buyout of a company as big as Dell would be no small feat, and it
would be dependent on overcoming hurdles specific to the private equity ... Show

could be as low as 8 percent. Avoiding the tax man could bolster that return to 31
percent.
(That may less of a problem, according to the investor Wilbur L. Ross, who told
CNBC on Tuesday that the company could sell eurodollar bonds, which may avoid
incurring a steep tax charge.)
Dell also had almost $5 billion in long term debt as of Nov. 2. That means the newly
private company would be highly indebted, though analysts at the ISI Group and
Mizuho point out that the company has respectable cash flow, generating about $3.7
billion in cash from operations during that time.
The bigger question for the company is whether going private would solve any of
the issues it has faced for years. Its traditional business of making and selling
personal computers has become less and less profitable, and Dell has already been
trying to move into the more lucrative and stable market of providing hardware and
software services for corporations. That s not something that requires Dell to be
private, however.
And there s also the question of whether a newly private Dell, forced to spend much
of its revenue on paying down its debt, would have money to invest in its business or
pay for new acquisitions. (Last year alone, the company struck 10 deals, including the
$2.4 billion purchase of Quest Software.)
Mr. Ross said on CNBC that he believed the chances of a deal coming together were
about 50 50. But there s still a lot of work and finagling
41. The Importance Of Youth Sports
Youth sports have become a cornerstone of today s American society. Most children
have or will participate in some sort of organized sport whether it be through a local
organization or through a national organization like the YMCA. The question being
posed today is if these organizations should award every childwith a trophyor medal
for their participation, or if they should reserve these awards for those who won
the most. If you praise and award a child for just showing up then it will hurt them
later in life. There are two kinds of youth sports parents. There are the parents who
adimitly say that it s not about winning or losing but about having fun. Then there
are the parents who only care if their son is on the winning team, and the idea of it s
just a game is for losers (Weller 1).
The parents who say it s just about having fun, and think that everyone deserves a
trophy are potentially hurting their kids development. new studies from The Ohio
State University and Utrecht University in the Netherlands advises against
participation awards. They suggest that parents often dole out inflated praise to the
children most likely to be hurt by it. If you tell a child with low self esteem that they
did incredibly well, they may think they always need to do incredibly well, said
Eddie Brummelman, lead author of the study. This culture of always praising
children, especially in youth sports, is hurting the child s development. They will
begin to avoid taking on

WORK INTRODUCTION Theoretically, mammoths could be cloned by recovering,
reconstructing or synthesizing viable mammoth DNA and injecting it into the egg
cell of a modern elephant whose nuclear DNA has been removed; alternatively,
mammoth genetic material could be introduced into an elephant genome in order to
create a mammothelephant hybrid or chimera. The possibility of bringing extinct
animals back to life has fascinated people for years. While something like Jurassic
Park is unlikely, Pleistocene Park just got one step closer to becoming a reality. One
day, mammoths may walk the Earth again.
The first step is to begin to understand the creature humanity wants to return to the
world. A woolly mammoth, also known as Mammuthus ... Show more content on

If the insertion is successful, then the eggs will be placed in an adult elephant and
brought to term. While it is unclear in how successful this team has been, it is clear
that as research in cloning, reproductive biology, genetics, and the spread of
information have increased, so has the likelihood of successfully cloning a mammoth.
Many of the different benefits and reasons also come from a more ethical and moral
code rather than just for pure science. Resurrecting a mammoth could also undo their
extinction, due to prehistoric humans nearly eleven thousand years ago. Some would
argue that humans have a moral obligation to re introduce species whose extinction
they caused, either directly, as is probably in the case of the mammoth, or indirectly,
as a result of another factor such as global climatic disruption. The value of bringing
back mammoths may come from the need to satisfy intrinsic human curiosity.
However, creating or re creating different life forms may also be of great instrumental
value to humanity, such as in the blocking the emergence of pathogens, or in helping
to ensure the continued existence of life on the planet.
Over the years, there have been a multitude of organizations that have been working
to improve the life quality if a mammoth were to ever reappear in the world. One of
these places, Pleistocene Park, has a goal to restore
43. Developing Case Studies
This paper contains a walkthrough of how to do a case study. This walkthrough
includes a process on how to do research, record field notes, how arrive at a
conclusion, and report the findings. Lastly, this paper will address the importance of
case study research.
Developing Case Studies Case studies are a research method that seeks to derive
an in depth understanding of a single or small number of real world cases (Yin,
2012). The process by which this specialized research is performed is briefly
outlined in this paper. The process begins with defining a case you wish to
investigate and gain a greater understanding of (Yin, 2012). A case can be a certain
person, team, organization, behavior, event or another social phenomenon (Yin, 2012).
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The researcher will use the final analysis and summary to write a case study report.
This report will quickly identify what could be potentially important to the audience.
This can be done through multiple report styles such as: linear analytic, theory
building, comparative, and or suspense (Crowther, 2017).
The importance of Case Study Research This paper will now address the
importance of case study research. Mccutcheon states that case study research is
the primary means of exploring field conditions, making it highly valuable (1993).
Case study research allows you to get a specialized view of what takes actually
takes place in the world instead of in a laboratory. That is why its is advised to do
interviews in environments that are most comfortable for the interviewee because
you are more likely to get more in depth and accurate research (Crowther, 2017). This
is especially true with Yin wrote that case study research has, covered a broad variety
of subjects, such as community studies, education, public health, businesses and
industry, public policy and public administration, and social and societal problems
and controversies. In addition, case study research has a long and important role in
clinical and biographical research, including research on infants
44. Bipolar Disorder Analysis
When considering the effects of a bipolar disorder on human life, one will realize
that it is no simple disorder. In fact, bipolar disorder is immensely complex and
bewildering even through a large amount of research and time has been spent
studying it. Although there is a lot of information not known about bipolar disorders,
it is important to recognize the current knowledge. Thus, the goal of this paper is to
provide an analysis of current knowledge of bipolar disorder, including explaining the
effects, causation, and incidence of the disorder.
To begin my analysis into bipolar disorder, I must first explain my personal
attachments to it. Put briefly, both my aunt and my grandmother have been
diagnosed with bipolar I disorder. Writing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As with many topics in psychology, the cause of bipolar has several different
explanations. Among the most influential explanations are genetics and
environmental. The causation of bipolar from genetics originates with the belief
that there is a single gene responsible for bipolar. To further this belief, it has been
found that more than 65% of people with bipolar disorder have at least one close
relative with bipolar disorder (as cited in Ciccarelli and White 555). The
environmental explanation credits bipolar disorder to drug or alcohol abuse, and
trauma during childhood or stressful life events (cite). The occurrence of bipolar I
disorder in my aunt would support both explanations, as her mother had bipolar
disorder and she was undergoing stress when she first experienced her first
45. Gaza Strip Controversy
It was ten years ago that Gaza Strip residents were forced out of their homes. From
picturesque Gush Katif, from Israeli settlements in the Gaza Strip and from four
small settlements in the northern West Bank. The ticket? Peace and renewed
international support for Israel.
The action was emotional and controversial. The residents claimed that they provided
an important defense buffer against attacks by Palestinians. The Jews living in Gaza
did not steal Palestinian land. The settlers of Gush Katif took sand dunes that were
never inhabited by the Arabs and with the sweat of their brow turned them into a
paradise and a financial powerhouse.
Still, the government of Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon, argued that remaining in Gaza
was too costly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before exiting through the gates of Kusufim Crossing, the head of Israel s mission in
Gaza, Brigadier General Aviv Kochavi said, The responsibility for whatever takes
place inside falls upon the [Palestinian] Authority. Later that evening, Major General
Dan Harel signed a declaration nullifying the 6 June 1967 decree, which had
established Israeli military rule in Gaza. And so it was that Israel publicly displayed
to the world that its most recent 38 year presence in Gaza had come to an end.
The U.S. President at the time, George W Bush, complimented the plan as a
positive step towards the road map for peace. At a joint press conference with Ariel
Sharon on April 11, 2005 he told the media, I strongly support [Prime Minister
Sharon s] courageous initiative to disengage from Gaza and part of the West Bank.
The Prime Minister is willing to coordinate the implementation of the disengagement
plan with the Palestinians. I urge the Palestinian leadership to accept his offer. By
working together, Israelis and Palestinians can lay the groundwork for a peaceful

Figure. 7. Effect of pH solution of feed phase on the removal efficiency of citric acid
Transport conditions: Feed phase: citric acid 10 2 M, pH 2 12. Stripping phase:
deionized water, pH=6.8. Membrane: 12.60 cm2 of surface area,
Calix[4]resorcinarene (0.15 g/g mixture of polymers), 0.03 ml 2 NPOE/g mixture of
polymers. Values obtained after 5 days of experimentation.
3.8 Stability of PIMs
In this study, one PIM was reused, whereas the feed and strip phases were replaced
after one cycle with fresh ones in 5 experiments and each experiment lasted from 4
days. As observed in Fig. 8. The initial flux of PIM shows a gradual decrease with
increasing of cycle s reuse, which may be caused by the loss of carrier from
membrane [37]. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Conclusion
In this study, a polymer inclusion membrane was prepared and succevally applied
for the removal of citric acid from synthetic wastewater. The mixture of CTA and CA
was found to be the optimum base polymer for quantitative transport of citric acid.
Moreover, the nature of carrier especially alkyl chain length, stirring rate, and pH of
feed phase are also important factors affecting the increased rate of citric acid
transport. Hence, from results obtained it can be seen that the investigated
calix[4]resorcinarene are effective extractants for citric acid and that their extraction
abilities depend on the alkyl chain length of the substituent in the macrocycle.
Choosing the appropriate length of alkyl chain, very selective system can be
designed. The excellent efficiency for the citric acid transport by the proposed PIM
system reveals its potential application for the selective removal, concentration and
purification of citric acid from different media.
