Animal Cell Structure
Animal cells are a type of eukaryotic cell with a nucleus, membrane bound organelles, with no cell
wall. Here is a summary of their structure and function.
Prokaryotes are the primitive, simple cells of bacteria and their bacteria like Archaea. Eukaryotes,
which include the most advanced cells of animals, plants, fungi, protozoan, algae, and slime water
molds.
Eukaryotic cells share many similar characteristics, including some of the following structures, which
can be found in the cells of animals. Glycocalyx: Some animal and protozoan cells have this outer
layer anchored to the plasma membrane. Gycocalyces help animal cells stick to each other and protect
cells from dehydration. This layer is not present in eukaryotic cells that have ... Show more content on

Peroxisomes are required by any cell that uses respiration (oxygen to extract energy from food).
Golgi body: In addition to making lysosomes, this organelle coordinates the packaging and shipment
of materials out of the cell. Mitochondria: These double membrane bound organelles are like tiny
powerhouses of the cell, producing a nucleotide coenzyme that transports energy for use within the
cell.
Cytoplasm: The inside of the cell, between the nucleus and plasma membrane, is filled with a gel like
fluid in which the organelles are suspended. The liquid portion of cytoplasm is called cytosol.
Cytoskeleton: This network of fibers and tubules is present throughout the interior of the cell,
providing support, anchoring organelles, helping with intracellular transport and cell division.
Centrioles and centrosomes: Only present in animal cells and some fungal cells, a pair of centrioles is
located near the nucleus, in a region called the centrosome. These organelles are composed of
microtubules, help build flagella and cilia and form mitotic spindles during cell division. An animal
cell undergoing mitosis and stained with

Informative Essay On The Movie Bully
Description of Documentary: When children are pushed to commit foolish activities or suicide
because of bullies, one can tell there is something wrong with the way situations are being handled in
our society. The documentary, Bully, presents countless examples of the effects of bullying and how
poorly circumstances are managed. Through instances resulting in juvenile detention or taking one s
own life, the documentary displays various ways kids deal with torment. As we follow the lives of five
different youths suffering at the hands of their peers, we see just how much these kids go through with
little to no support.
The first family we meet has recently lost their son, Tyler, to suicide at the age of 17. Tyler s dad
recounts the way Tyler transformed from being a bubbly child to a loner. Tyler s dad discusses how he
knew that Tyler was getting shoved into lockers and being told to hang himself, and that he
understands why Tyler took his own life. Tyler s mom then shows us Tyler s old room where he
committed suicide, how his younger brother, Troy, found him, and how they changed the room into an
office to work on their anti bullying stuff. Tyler s parents are both extremely understanding and want
to celebrate Tyler s life by helping others experiencing mistreatment. Unfortunately, the school would
not take any responsibility for what happened, dismissing all accusation, and left all bullying
unpunished. Even at a town meeting, no representative from the school came to hear

Tannen And Sontag
Women have historically been seen as sex objects while men have been seen as success objects. by
Deborah Tannen s Marked Women and, A Woman s Beauty: Put Down or Power Source? by Susan
Sontag, The Men We Carry in Our Minds by Scott Russell Sanders, and Man Bashing: Trivial Pursuits
or a Truth with Consequences? by Warren Farrell discuss these two sides to gender roles. While
Sanders and Farrell make some quality points about men s struggle in society, overall, Tannen and
Sontag present a stronger argument about the challenges women face in today s society.
Tannen and Sontag argue that women are made to be sex objects by society; they are pressured to try
to look beautiful while also being degraded as superficial and inept. As Sontag ... Show more content

Sander s essay focuses on his childhood when men were working in manual labor jobs for the most
part and women largely staying at home. This is not the case in today s society where women are also
expected to get jobs most of the time. In this way, the burden on men to bring in the money has
lessoned but women still face the pressure of being beautiful. Tannen exposes this more current set of
problems for women when she discusses the expectation that women look presentable at work. She
writes, The range of women s hairstyles is staggering, but a woman whose hair has no particular style
is perceived as not caring about how she looks, which can disqualify her for many positions, and will
subtly diminish her as a person in the eyes of some. Whereas men do not have to think about their
hairstyles and general appearance for work men s hair has to be unusual to be marked and no makeup
is unmarked for men women must consider how much makeup and what hair do they will do. Every
style for women is marked and not taking the time to decide on a style marks a woman as not put
together. Even the arguments that Farrell brings up for what problems men face in today s society
which are often invalid seem inconsequential compared to the points Tannen and Sontag make about
the daily struggles women face. Farrell makes points such as the one that self help writers voice only
women s side of the argument about toilet seats being put down after men use the toilet. No one
suggests thanking the man for putting it up so he gets nothing on it. And no one asks why a woman
expects the toilet to always be as it is in women s rooms, and never as half the toilets are in men s
rooms: urinals, he debates. Practically, his idea that all

Building a movement always challenges the status quo. Leaders must act, they must willingly risk the
things they love and unfortunately, many leaders are frozen by the lethargy of indecision i. Union
General George B. McClellan, who was meticulous in his planning and preparations, was also known
for not aggressively challenging his opponents on a fast moving battlefield environment. He

Confederate politicians, including President Jefferson Davis, believed the prospect of foreign
recognition would increase if they won a victory on Northern soil; such a victory might gain
recognition and financial support from Britain and France, something that was vastly needed xiii.
While in pursuit, two soldiers in General McClellan s 75,500 man Army of the Potomac, stumbled
upon an amazing find. On the morning of September 13, in a clover field on the outskirts of Frederick,
MD, CPT Barton Mitchell and 1SG John Bloss found a bulky envelope by the road xiv. In it was a
sheet of paper wrapped around three cigars and marked Confidential . It was headed Special Orders
No 191 and signed by Command of GEN. R.E. Lee xv. Before noon, it was in the hands of General
McClellan xvi. From Special Order 191, McClellan learned the objectives, the timetables, and the
makeup of the four columns of Lee s Army xvii. The order indicated that Lee had divided his Army
and dispersed portions geographically to Harpers Ferry, WV and Hagerstown, MD, thus making each
subject to isolation and defeat if McClellan could move quickly enough xviii. Rather than using the
advantage to reposition his forces in overwhelming numbers, he waited 18 hours before taking
advantage of his intelligence. As it happened, it was just enough time for General Lee to evade
outright disaster xix.

positive and negative changes throughout our lives that have had an impact on our attitudes and
behaviour. The novel by J.C Burke The story of Tom Brennan and the film What s eating Gilbert

once and go and see his brother and tell him what is happening with the rest of the family and how
they are feeling after what had happened. In parallel to the film, Arnie is sort of like a reminder to the
audience that his mental state of a little boy acting childish wants to climb the water tower. The shot is
shallow because only one dimension is focused on Arnie while the water tower is out of focus. In a
way the water tower symbolizes the burden that Gilbert has been in as the main supporter of the
family, taking care of Arnie as his mother, Bonnie is obese due to the fact that her husband has died
and she has not been out of the house for 7 years which proves that she can not take the role and

Front Porch Campaign Essay
The 1920 presidential election proved to be memorable as well as historically significant for a number
of reasons. This time period is surrounded by important events in American history. It falls directly
after World War I, starts the roaring twenties, and leads the United States into the Great Depression.
Warren G. Harding was elected president over all other candidates, with promises of life going back to
normal conditions. At this point in time, American citizens were desperate for one thing: their old
normal life. The election of 1920 was important because our nation had just gotten out of World War I,
the vote ended in a landslide, and Harding changed the United States for the worse.
Preceding the Election The year was 1919 and the fighting of World War I had finally come to an end.

Rather than facing his opponent, James Cox, Harding campaigned against Wilson. Aforementioned,
Wilson was paralyzed, therefore Harding was only running against the idea of Wilson or what he had
previously stood for. He promised America change, but not a progressive change that Wilson had
provided. He gave the people the promise of normalcy, or a promise to restore the country to the state
it was in before the war. To enforce this promise even more severely, he ran a more personal
campaign. This was called a front porch campaign and it s purpose was to get supporters to come see
and talk to him on his actual front porch. It had worked for other presidents, but a prodigious reason
he did this was to be contrary to Wilson. Harding wanted to portray himself as calm and collected
compared to Wilson s campaign that took him and his failing ideas all over the United States.
(Pietrusza 315). This front porch campaigning separated Harding even further from Wilson, making
the public prefer him over his real opponent,

Why Should Catch 22 Be Banned
Catch 22 by Joseph Heller, a book with a purpose to provide comic relief to the hearts of many After
the horrors of the Korean War. Catch 22 is a book set during World War II and shows an American B

island of Pianosa west of Italy. Catch 22 is renowned by many who have enjoyed the book s realism
and use of satire, but some beg to differ and often criticize the book over the excessive use of
profanity. In some cases the book has been outright banned such as the case in Strongsville, Ohio

Since the 1st amendment guarantees the right to freedom of the press among other things books are
protected under said right as decided by Lamont v. Postmaster General (1965), a book can not be
banned from schools because a school is an extension of the government, and if a school were to ban a
book because of language, violence, etc. the government would essentially be suppressing the 1st
amendment. A quote from the American Library Association website from a court case which involved
Strongsville school board attempting to ban Catch 22 from the school district is as follows, The U.S.
Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit ruled against the School Board, upholding the students First
Amendment right to receive information and the librarian s right to disseminate it. The removal of
books from a school library is a much more serious burden upon the freedom of classroom discussion
than the action found unconstitutional in Tinker v. Des Moines School District (Notable 1st
Amendment Court Cases). The 1st amendment protects the rights of the book to remain inside of
schools because if Catch 22 was banned that school would be suppressing the 1st amendment right
therefore breaking the constitution. The 1st amendment protects a person s right to freedom of speech,
religion, etc., but also provides rights to that of

Perfecting Perfection
Perfecting Perfection Imagine that every day you heavily analyze something insignificant. You spend
hours analyzing this thing, but because this thing is insignificant, your efforts are pointless. But, even
with this knowledge, you continue your stream of pointless analyzation every single day for as long as
you can remember. This is my life and that analyzation stems from my obsession with perfection.
Perfection isn t easily attainable; to make something flawless at every angle requires a lot of time and
effort which is why one cannot be perfect at everything. This idea may seem intuitive to most people,
but not for me. My mind has completely expelled this principle and, instead, has fostered this ill
minded belief that everything in my life should be perfect, even if it s something insignificant. My

Causes Of Imperialism
Imperialism Essay
Growing up, many children play the board game Battleship, where a player s main goal is to conquer
his opponent s ships and, eventually, land. Similarly, in the late nineteenth and early twentieth
centuries, the nation of Europe and other countries took over and influenced countries that they
believed were inferior to them. This process, known as imperialism, is defined as a policy of
extending a country s power and influence through diplomacy or military force (google.com). Clearly,
both children in military board games and Europe in the real world used imperialism when they seized
lesser countries like Africa and the Philippines. However, there were many different factors that
caused countries to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Clearly, making money was important to European nations, so that is how the economy influenced
imperialism during this time period. The economy was not the only force responsible for imperialism
in Europe; another very important cause was the political aspect that related to government affairs.
According to Raymond Aron, imperialism was caused by political ambitions... the nations will to
power... [or] glory or national greatness. This means that Europe used imperialism because they
wanted to be the most powerful force in the world and have glory over everyone else. Specifically, this
political power was apparent in the French military because they had the strongest weapons, warships,
soldiers, and cannons (Gian, Phantom Thanh). Therefore, they were easily able to take over other any
desired country and go wherever they wanted without resistance. Furthermore, another political cause
of imperialism was that many nations wanted to gain land and natural resources by taking over lesser
countries. One of these unfortunate countries was Africa, as shown in a 1914 map. In it, Africa was
divided into numerous territories that were ruled by seven total countries: Britain, France, Belgium,
Germany, Portugal, Italy, and Spain (African Map in 1914). Only one territory was independent and
not conquered yet, which really shows how imperialism spread all across Europe in this time period

Environmental Issue Raised By The Mining Industry
The mining industry has seen an explosive growth from the past few decades. It has played an
important role in economic growth, infrastructure development and a raise in the living standard of the
whole world. According to the Australian National Accounting System, the mining sector has made
contributions of 9.8% GDP growth to the Australian economy between 2008 to 2009 (Australia
Bureau of Statistics, 2012). However, the mining industry has caused many environmental issues such
as adverse effect to air, land and water quality and continues to affect global environment as a whole.
According to the World Health Organization, it evaluated that 25% of worldwide death are directly
associated with environmental pollution (Blacksmith Institute, n.d). This essay will outline the
environmental issue raised by the mining industry with pinpoint focus on the effects to air, water and
land. It will also provide strategies for mining companies to improve the environmental conditions.
Surface mining process include the excavation of overburden including the profitable topsoil and
regular vegetation has spread to meet the mineral ores (singh, et al. 2010). These activities are
connected with destructive impact to neighborhood. Proper planning needs to be done in mining since
it is a short term environmental activity with long term hazards. There are several measures which can
be implemented to prevent the harmful effects of mining. Mining exercise are completed in different

Getting Away And Going Camping With The Family
Getting away and going camping with the family can be a very rewarding time, not to mention a ton
of fun. But if you have a toddler that you must take with you, it will present a set of unique problems.
You will need to keep your toddler occupied, safe, and entertained. Here s how. 1. Don t try and travel
too far at one time with a toddler in the car. Three hours of traveling is about the limit for a toddler.
You will then need to stop and get out of the car. Give the toddler some time to move around a bit and
get some fresh air. The exercise will do him good and he may get tired out enough that he may sleep
during the next leg of the trip. Be sure to bring some snack foods with you to give him something to
munch on. 2. Also consider where your toddler will sleep. Is he used to sleeping on something other
than a bed? If he is, then you don t have anything to worry about. But if he isn t, then you may need to
do some thinking concerning sleeping arrangements. 3. Be careful where you camp. I don t think you
want to be too close to a lake or pond. Your toddler could wander in that direction very quickly
without you noticing. In fact, you need to keep an eye on him constantly. There are many hazards in a
camping environment that could injure him. 4. Be sure to make the trip fun for the toddler. Try and
arrange things that will be fun for him to do. The lake or pond can be fun; he just can t do that by
himself. As long as you accompany him and keep a tight grip on his

THE INFLUENCE OF PROGRESSIVE EDUCATION ON AMERICAN SCHOOLING
The Progressive Era was from 1890 1919 when President Theodore Roosevelt became predecessor to
President William McKinley whom was assassinated. For decades, it has been a controversial debate
on how influential Progressive Education is on American Schooling. The Progressive Movement
started because of the development of big businesses and corporations as education became a major
topic for reformers due to child labor laws and public schooling became the central focus in the United
States. Efforts of this movement were to regulate big businesses, governmental reform, women s
suffrage, and temperance. (Hayes 2006, p. 7) I am a follower in the teachings as well as the learning ...

According to Alfie Kohn s article and his views on Progressive Education, he saw it as attending to the
whole child, since educators were concerned with helping children become good learners and good
people...he felt that children learn with and from one another in a caring community, and that s true of
moral as well as academic learning...where opportunities are offered not only to learn about, but also
to put into action...in schools where students play a vital role in helping to design the curriculum,
formulate the questions, seek out answers, think through possibilities, and evaluate how successful
they and their teachers have been. (2008, pgs. 18 19)
This stance on education, seek to promote learning and seemed credible, although it didn t become as
widespread as anticipated as viewed in the educational system today. Much of what the Progressive
Movement tried to accomplish, seldom exists, however, we do have some private schools that align
themselves with the Progressive approach; such as, Waldorf, Montessori and Reggio Emilia. These
schools have a selective based approach, based on the notion that the child would be the right fit for
the school and can cope in that type of environment.

Theory Of Property Rights By Harold Demsetz
Theory of Property Rights By Harold Demsetz (UChicago)
The concept and role of property rights
It this first part, Demsetz offers a more theoretical foundation for the concepts he will use in the
following parts. The author starts defining the idea of property rights and differentiating how they
transmit the right to benefit or harm oneself or others. After, he links it with the recognition a close
relationship between property rights and externalities. The process of Internalizing such effects refers
to a change in property rights, that enables these effects to bear (in greater degree) on all interacting
persons. They become part of the economy.
The example of the military draft is used later to show how the costs of internalization have to be
higher to its gains. The lower the cost the greater the number of transactions and the degree to which
they take place.
Lastly, in this section, Demsetz defines the framework of his analysis, what would happen if
transaction costs of internalizing were zero? There are two main implications, on the first one he states
that the output mix is efficient for all players involved. Secondly, that the mix is independent of who is
assigned the ownership.

Puritan Beliefs Of The Massachusetts Bay Colony
In Puritan belief, life was planned according to God, and a society worked to live out that plan. The
Massachusetts Bay Colony was a closely integrated group that worked together to fulfill the wishes of
a larger community. Puritans religious beliefs produced ideas that God s will was to lead a community
based on peace. God had set high expectations for a happy and trustworthy community. However, if a
community did not live up to the expectations, God would destroy the community. Therefore, Puritan
leaders felt the need to enforce strict rules so Puritans could not disobey the ideals. If anyone did not
conform, they were called an impostor who did not belong in the community. If Puritans allowed
freedom of worship, dissenters would not be banished from the community because all ideologies
could potentially exist peacefully. The only time dissenters existed were in communities that limited
freedom of rights. Along with most communities, there are differences from popular belief which
leaders try to disestablish. A peaceful and harmonic community were guiding principles for Puritan
communities.

Issues of Digital Rights Management (DRM) in India
On purchasing an audio book of George Orwell s classic, 1984 from iTunes, the author was faced with
a peculiar problem the audio book had a weird mb4 format, playable only on Apple products and the
conversion to mp3 was impossible because the file was well, encrypted. So, when section 65A of the
Indian Copyright (Amendment) Act, 2012 was notified , a legal analysis seemed to be pertinent for
this provision, introducing Digital Rights Management (DRM) in India, would indeed have a palpable
effect on almost all Indian consumers of digital media. Section 65A of the Indian Copyright
(Amendment) Act, 2012 provides legal protection to technological protection measures (or TPM e.g.
digital locks, encryption), such that the circumvention of such TPM is prohibited, while tools or
devices aiding circumvention may be permitted for the purpose of fair use. Such use of TPM for the
purpose of access control is classified as DRM and can take many forms limiting number of
installations and plays , limiting content to certain file types , limiting content to be played on
particular software etc. We first analyze this provision in comparison with similar US and EU
provisions and try to understand whether it is a favourable addition to Indian IP law, especially in the
context of its political economic background. We then try and analyze the problems with the
provision, especially through the lens of an economic analysis as well as from a consumer point of
view. Since, DRM is

Wildland Fire Essay
Virtually everywhere in the United States is affected to one degree of another by wildland fires. Even
if a community is not directly involved with the fire itself, chances are that some of its members have
gone to help fight wildland fires in other areas of the country by providing manpower, financial
support, or other humanitarian aid.
Policies regarding the handling of wildland fires continue to change and evolve as new information is

These sources are chemical, mechanical, electrical, and nuclear.
Chemical The most common source of heat for the purpose of firefighting comes from chemical
reactions. When something burns, it is the result of a chemical reaction where heat is being released.
Pyrolysis is the decomposition or transformation of a compound caused by heat. (Coleman, et al. 81)
Mechanical The mechanical source of heat deals the heat that is created from friction. Friction is a
resistive force that occurs from the rubbing or compression of materials. For firefighters, this source of
fire is seen mostly in industrial machinery (Coleman, et al. 81).
Electrical An electric current exists when there is a net flow of charge through a given area. Electrons
flow from the negatively charged region to the positively charged region. This is usually accomplished
by using an electrical conductor which allows the electrons to pass freely through the material
(Serway, et al. 709). This flow of electrons can generate heat when collisions between the molecules
and electrons occur. These collisions then cause the molecules to break apart thus releasing heat. Some
common examples of electrical energy are lightning, static electricity, and wiring outlets (Coleman, et
al. 82). For the wildland firefighter, lightning is probably the

Physical Injuries Of A Prophylactic Ankle Brace
One of the most common injuries that is relatively seen in all sports, especially in basketball and
volleyball, is an acute ankle injury that accounts for about 10 to 25 percent of all injuries. Of all these
injuries that occur, almost ¾ of them are related to the lateral structures in our ankle. The most
common and minor form of these injuries is a lateral ankle sprain, which is caused by an inversion
stress to the joint of the ankle. When someone happens to sprain their ankle, the usual preventive
measures by athletic trainers and sports doctors are taken into action such as ankle taping, using of an
ankle brace, strengthening of the ankle, and therapy. Of all these, a prophylactic ankle brace is often

One of the factors known to cause these abnormal movements in the joints of the lower extremity is
the use of a prophylactic ankle brace. One doctor was able to discover that using an ankle brace during
athletic performance did not increase the risk of injury. Our research showed that knee biomechanics
known to be risk factors for ACL injury did not appear to be negatively impacted by wearing a lace up
ankle brace. (Aerni, Giselle, 2012). If athletes wear prophylactic ankle braces during athletic
activities, then they are more likely to be subjected to knee injuries. The study will analyze the effect
that prophylactic ankle braces cause to the joints of the knee and determining if it increases the stress
placed on them. The primary function of a prophylactic ankle that is being used is to put a restriction

What people don t know is that it also decreases your overall performance, total range of motion, and
other kinematics as well. When a player is jumping and landing, the use of an ankle brace significantly
reduces the amount of internal and external rotation you have in your ankle. So, when the rotation of

Eukaryotic Organelles
Introduction:
There are many questions frequently asked in the field of microbiology, one being which eukaryotic
organelle is the most crucial to the function of living organisms. Whilst all organelles are essential to
eukaryotes, undoubtedly the nucleus is the most important. Yet, many argue that the mitochondrion or
endoplasmic reticulum (ER) are equally if not more important to cellular function. Although both
organelles have similarities with the nucleus and work with it to complete various functions it is
evidential that the nucleus is more crucial.
The Nucleus:
The nucleus presence is used to classify cell as a eukaryote rather than prokaryote. The nucleus is the
most prominent organelle within the cell and is a large spherical shape, ... Show more content on

These processes occur when ribosomes and RNA leave the nucleus and attach to the RER and begin to
synthesise proteins. Before moving on any required modifications to newly formed proteins are made.
These proteins can then pass through the translocon and into the lumen where they undergo quality
control (British Society for Cell Biology, 2017a). From there can be transported to different parts of
the RER and eventually to other organelles that require them such as mitochondria (Kaiser, 2007).
This creates all the proteins that the cell and living organism need to function. These vary in type and
function from enzymes, used in all chemical reactions within the organism, to somewhat simpler
proteins such as hormones that organisms used to regulate their functions (Wilson, 2015). The
transportation network the ERs create is also vital in ensuring that all other organelles function

Biology Heat Loss Practical Write Up
Biology Coursework Practical – Heat Loss The aim of this practical is to find to what extent does the
surface area to volume ratio of an object affect the rate of heat loss from the object Hypothesis: As the
ratio of surface area to volume of an object decreases the rate of heat loss from the object will also
decrease. Objects with the same surface area to volume ratios loose heat at the same rate so long as
there are not other variables involved. Background Knowledge: The surface area to volume ratio of an
object is determined by dividing the surface area by the volume and putting it into a ratio of one. e.g.
A flask of volume 200cm3 and a surface area of 160cm2 will have a surface area to volume ratio of:
160 : 1 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One the flasks have been filled they will be heated to get the water to 90oC. Once the flasks are both
at 90oC bungs will be placed in the top which have thermometers running through them. Using these
thermometers the temperature will be recorded every 30 seconds for 20 minutes. This will then be
repeated. The experiment is repeated to improve the accuracy of the data. In order to ensure a fair test
the experiment will be started at the same temperature each time and will also be allowed to run for
the same length of time. Also the depth of the thermometers in each flask will remain constant for both
tests. The volume of water will be as equal as possible in both experiments however due to human
inaccuracy it is unlikely that the volumes will be exactly the same. Hopefully any variations between
experiments will be so small as to be of no consequence. At the end of the experiment the results will
be plotted in a table and the average results will be calculated and plotted on a comparative graph so
that it is possible to see any variations between the two sets of data. Results: Minutes Temp 100cm3 1

Reflection On My Life
I have not only learned things throughout the course of, Christ, Culture, and the University, but I have
truly soaked up the lectures so that I can apply everything to my daily life. This course has been such
an eye opener in my life, I remember coming into this course not knowing exactly what it was and
being confused as to why I was even put into it. Over the weeks spent coming to class, I finally
figured out what the course meant to me. This was a course that was devoted to me, to figure out who
I am and what my beliefs are. I believe that this course was set in place to not only figure out what I
truly believe, but it was to help me grow and learn more about my religion and others. Throughout this
course, I was able to figure out my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I have learned to think critically over my time in this course about my worldview, with the help of
guidance every step of the way. I am able to express my worldview to others and at this point in my
life I can now share the knowledge I have with others and hopefully even help them find their own
worldview. Personally, the main thing that I have noticed about myself is that I am no longer searching
for the words to say to other people when they ask about what I truly believe in. This course has
taught me to be bold in what I believe in and to not be afraid to share it with others. I want to be able
to continue to use my worldview in my life as a huge stepping stone into my future. Though my
worldview may change over time, at this point in my life I am proud to understand what a worldview
is and what mine is at the moment.
While a worldview is difficult to define, especially when it comes to your own, figuring out who you
are and who you are meant to be is something that is not found easily. Though I struggled to figure out
my worldview, I believe that figuring out my spiritual gifts and my personality was something even
harder. My first week here at Southeastern University was surreal, it was insane to think that I had
actually come this far. I can remember sitting in my room and thinking to myself that I was not yet
sure of what my purpose was, and I knew that I was going to struggle to find it. Taking this course has
changed my life, I have not only figured out my

Ammaniti’s Novel, I’m Not Scared Essay
This is a profoundly moral tale of lost innocence and adult cruelty. Do you agree?
Ammaniti s novel I m Not Scared set in Acqua Traverse, Italy 1978 is a powerful text, which explores
relevant social themes and issues. Besides being a tale of adult cruelty and lost innocence we cannot
ignore the role in which loyalty and betrayal play in the novel. These central themes make this novel a
compelling text.
In the novel Michelle journeys from a joyful innocent child into a perceptive and wiser youth. Initially
we view Michelle as a child who is very compassionate, willing to do the forfeit for Barbara to exempt
her from Skull s cruelty. As the story progresses qualities namely courage and loyalty surface in
Michelle. These two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fillipo like Togo struggled when forced to wash and like Togo, Fillipo was very dirty. Fillipo had to
live in his own excretion this can be seen when Michelle lifts the mattress to the hole A terrible stink
of shit was released . The treatment of Fillipo is appalling, this act is magnified by the fact that the
adults in the village have children of their own yet are capable of such cruelty. The author portrays
Fillipo as identical to Michelle in age and height, the intended effect is to draw parallels with Michelle
and show that Fillipo is like any other nine year old.
Loyalty and betrayal occurs frequently in the text. Michelle is loyal to Fillipo, he is willing to break a
promise he made on my fathers head . He realises the suffering Fillipo endures and forms a bond. He
admits openly towards the end of the text that Fillipo is a friend of mine . Betrayal is also a prominent
theme in the story. To key instances of betrayal occur, the first being Salvatore s betrayal of Michelle.
Secondly we also must view Pino s betrayal of his family. Salvatore s betrayal was a heart wrenching
experience for Michelle. Michelle is beaten by Felice but it is his heart which hurts most, Salvatore
had broken it . Some readers feel that Michelle betrayed Pino however it has to be said that Pino
despite having the best intentions for his family ultimately betrayed them. He was the one who chose
to pursue the kidnapping, he did not serve the family well by engaging in

How Did The Federalist Papers Influence The Ratification...
Section A: Identification and Evaluation of Sources This investigation will explore the question: To
what extent did The Federalist Papers influence the ratification of the Constitution? The publications,
arguments, and effects of this document will be the focus of the investigation to allow for an analysis
of where and in what ways The Federalist was influential during the constitutional conventions from
1787 to 1789. The first source that will be evaluated in depth is Ron Chernow s book Alexander
Hamilton which was published in 2005. The origin of this source is valuable because Chernow is a
historian and writer who graduated from Yale university, Pembroke College, and Cambridge. He has
won the Pulitzer Prize for Biography and the American History Book Prize and has written many
books about the founding fathers and early republic, indicating his extensive knowledge on the
subject. The purpose of Alexander Hamilton is to tell the story of the first secretary of the treasury and
his influence on the new nation from his birth in 1755 to his death in 1804. This is valuable, because
as the author of more than half of The Federalist, extensive knowledge on Hamilton s political pursuits
and views is helpful in creating an informed conclusion. However, since the main focus of the novel is
Hamilton, the role of Madison and Jay may have been downsized or less researched. Also, the focus of
the book was not the Constitutional convention and impact of the federalist papers, so

‘for Me, the Story Is Less a Horror…Than a Larger Than...
For me, the story is less a horror...than a larger than life gothic fairytale (Kenneth Brannagh) How far
and in what ways do you agree with this description of the text?
Mary Shelley s Frankenstein is a novel which forces the reader to question whether it is a simple
horror story or whether it is a gothic fairytale of many depths. Frankenstein is considered by many
critics as the first modern horror story ever written, and it opened a whole new world of ideas for
novels and has inspired many similar works since its publication in 1818. As we see by the prelude,
Shelley s first ambition is to horrify the reader as she describes wanting to awaken thrilling horror one

For many readers, Frankenstein is much more than a simple horror story, it is a story about family,
abandonment, the consequences of the quest for knowledge, and many other themes which influence
the path of the story. One of the most notable themes within the novel is the idea of good versus evil.
This theme adds extreme depth to the text, as the reader is left to decide which character is good and
which is evil. Shelley s use of intertextuality in the novel emphasises her point, especially with the
inclusion of the strong influence that Milton s Paradise Lost has on the monster. I am thy creature: I
ought to be thy Adam, but I am rather the fallen angel, whom thou drivest from joy for no misdeed.
From the moment he is created, we, like the monster question whether he is Adam, or the fallen angel,
and therefore wonder whether it is he or Victor which is the creature of evil. The tale of Frankenstein
leads the reader into the logic of creation and of the mind, and through her thoughts on good versus
evil; Shelley also forces the reader to look even further beyond the horror of the novel to the idea of
the doppelganger effect. In the National Theatre s production of the novel, the two main characters
switched the roles of Victor and the monster, emphasizing the point that both characters could be in

Gender Stereotyping In Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs
The first princess Walt Disney s studio brought to life was none other than Snow White. The
eponymous animated film is still a well known story since it was released in 1937. In many ways the
film does not hold up to today s standards, and it is devoid of any characters worth being interested in.
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs has some of the most overt gender stereotyping, and relies on
centuries old tropes to tell a story that was problematic to begin with. While Snow White may not be
as popular as Moana, she is still a prominent part of the princess line up. After eighty years and
multiple re releases, Snow White s iconic image is practically synonymous with Disney. With Disney
s worldwide influence on children and media, it s hard not to think of the repercussions of the princess
phenomenon. Now, what s so wrong about Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs ? It s just a film after
all, meant for entertainment. The problem is how heavily the story relies on sheer dumb luck, and it
reinforces antiquated ideas of the gender binary. Let s start with Snow White, the young and radiant
princess who sings merrily as she does chores in tattered clothes. Nothing can keep this girl down for
long. She is cheerful and oblivious for the vast majority of the story, and is only able to live because a
guy she barely knew kissed her. There is only ever one dream that Snow White aspires towards, and
she sings Someday My Prince Will Come to make that perfectly clear. Snow White never

Human Impacts Toward Soil Biodiversity
METHODS
Data Collation
Data was collected from published studies or in press studies that focused on human impacts toward
soil biodiversity. Potential relevant studies must compare multiple sites which having different land
use type and/or intensity. In addition, species abundance, richness, occurrence, or other diversity
metrics must be present in the study, so that diversity can be estimated. Furthermore, the information
of the sites location is also very important, studies which have the sites coordinates are more
preferable. The coordinates are very useful not just to pinpoint the exact location on the map, but also
to help us acquire other information, e.g. climate, biome, and ecoregion (all paper criteria similar to
Newbold et al. 2015). To find these potential relevant studies, I used Web of Science
(http://webofknowledge.com/) and Google Scholar (http://scholar.google.co.uk) as the search engine
with soil invertebrate , land use , pitfall trap , and ground invertebrate as my search term.
The corresponding authors of the suitable studies were contacted, asking whether they are willing to
share their raw data (which were not usually made fully available in the paper or supplementary files).
From the total of 24 authors contacted, five of them agreed to give me the raw data. After receiving
the data, they were coded into a structured pdf form and excel spreadsheet. The pdf form captured the
site and species specific information provided by the papers or

Ute People Research Paper
The Ute otherwise known as Nuciu, The People are a Native American tribe. They live in Utah,
Colorado, New Mexico, and parts of Arizona, Nevada, and Wyoming. They inhabited 225,000 square
miles, covering most of Utah, western Colorado, southern Wyoming, northern Arizona, Nevada, and
New Mexico. Ute is the origin of the name Utah. They are believed to to be the first aboriginal groups
in North America to use horses in large groups. The Ute speak what was formerly known as Plateau
Shoshonean, a dialect of the Uto Aztecan language. These are some very important facts about the Ute
people, all of which have influenced their lives forever. Life for the Ute started in the Great Basin at
about a.d. 1250 1350. After they began to use horses, which they acquired from the Spanish in the
1600 s, some people migrated to the Great Plains. In the Great Basin they had to live through hot
summers and cold winters. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Ute believe that they were brought here from the south in a magic sack carried by the god Sinauf.
Sinauf is half wolf and half man. They also had Shamans that could use a healing power obtained
through dreams or other Shamans. Shamans could heal people with songs, dances, and more. The Ute
people also practice ceremonies like the Bear Dance and Sun Dance. The Bear Dance was held in the
Spring at the same time that the Bear was out of hibernation. The dance was done in a large brush
enclosure. It lasted about ten days, and it propitiated bears to increase hunting. The Sun Dance was
borrowed from the Plains Tribes. The dance is held in July and it lasted for four days and nights. The
Sun Dance was held to increase community esteem and welfare, it was also symptomatic of the
feelings of despair that they were feeling. They danced in hope for a vision or cure for the sick. The
Ute also made pictographs and petroglyphs on rocks. Some of the pictographs and petroglyphs can be
seen in Moab National

Moral Of Noah Research Paper
When growing up as a Christian, some of the first Bible stories ever told are the stories found in
Genesis. These stories were a fun and simple place to start for young Christians, but behind them all
are important moral stories. However, as a child most of these morals were harder to see and it isn t
until later that they are brought to attention. The story of Noah is no different, in the fact that it
contains several great morals that are applicable today. Before discussing the morals of the story, it is
important to first know the story of Noah. Noah is first introduced into the Bible in Genesis 5:29 as
the son of Lamech, who names in saying He will comfort us in the ground the Lord has cursed . This
sets up the main story of Noah and

Sex Allocation And The Reproductive Organs
Sex allocation refers to the amount of parental resources assigned to male versus female offspring in a
sexually reproducing species {Charnov:1982wg, Brunet:1992fg,West:2010ws} and the extent of this
allocation in the organism s fitness. In angiosperms, the flowers are the reproductive organs, but
opposite to most animals, the presence of male and female organs varies among species resulting in a
large diversity of breeding systems. Those breeding systems are defined on the basis of the presence
and fertility of male or female reproductive organs either in the same flower or in the same individual.
Then, breeding systems can be categorized as monomorphic, when individuals have both male and
female functions (hermaphroditism and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the mathematical foundation of sex ratio is based on animal systems {Fisher:1930wy,
Charnov:1982wg, West:2010ws}, and not directly comparable with all breeding systems of plants,
mostly because the limitation in pollen and seed dispersal {Field:2012cc}, and for the unequally of
nuclear gene s contribution to the next generation {Lloyd:1974jca}.
Darwin developed the first approach to the studying of sex allocation in plants when differences in sex
ratio in dioecious and gynodioecious species generated a problem for the theory of natural selection
{Darwin:1877fw, West:2010ws}. Later, {Fisher:1930wy} stated a widespread mathematical
explanation where sex ratio would be stabilized due that each individual has a mother and a father and
that natural selection would favor the offspring with the rare sex in the population {Carnov:1982wg}.
The main foundations include i. when the female and the male offspring have equal reproductive cost
to produce, natural selection will act to balance the sex ratio of the population ii. Parents producing a
high number of the cheaper offspring to produce will be favored in their relative fitness. iii. natural
selection favors the rarer sex {West:2010ws, Sinclair:2011je}.
Fisher s Model Fisher (1930) provided a widespread explanation of why an equal number of male and

Structure Of Calvin s Soteriology Essay
II. union with Christ
i. Structure of Calvin s soteriology in Book III in light of Union with Christ
In Book III which is his soteriology, Calvin starts the work of Holy Spirit by introducing Union with
Christ as the mechanism which connects the work of Christ and it s targeting object, the believer. In
fact, Union with Christ acts as a sub motif running through entire Book III. In the first three chapters,
Calvin unfolds this union which is a description of a certain relationship first founded by the secret
energy of the Spirit and resulting in the faith in the believer. In the end of Book III, Calvin concludes
the goal of the work of the Holy Spirit through union is to bring union with God to those who have
faith in Christ and therefore are grounded by this union with Christ in the final resurrection. And in
between, Calvin explains at length that what happen in this relationship is the double grace,
sanctification and justification, in which defines that salvation must consist of human recognition in
the light of the work of the Holy Spirit. In the following chapter, I will first discuss how the humanity
of Christ relate to our union with Christ from the soteriological perspective. And the next chapter will
move the loci to the transition from union with Christ to the communion with God in light of the
humanity of Christ. Finally, I will try to provide the eschatological perspective of the humanity of
Christ in our communion with God and to conclude that why it is

Thick Description Analysis
Joelle Moussi
ANTH 101A
Quiz Section F
Reading Response #1
A thick description is a meaningful description of an action not only the simple, physical process of
the action but also the significance, intention, and context behind that action. Analyzing culture
through thick descriptions allows us to go beyond simple observations and understand why people do
what they do, so that a cultural status quo can become more familiar to us. Clifford Geertz suggests
that the concept of culture... is essentially a semiotic one (Geertz, 5), which means that culture is a
shared, public system of meanings and symbols. Thus, in order to have an adequate study of culture so
that we can better interact with others, we must analyze the signs and symbols used by a culture to
gain meaning within that culture. With this in mind, Geertz uses the concept of thick ... Show more

With this in mind, Geertz goes on to suggest that cultural anthropology is not an experimental science
in search of law but an interpretive one in search of meaning (Geertz, 5). Since anthropology is a
symbolic endeavor, creating thick descriptions is thought of as an interpretive study, especially
considering that we must ourselves actually infer all of the symbolic implications around us. In other
words, raw observational data collected by an ethnographer is not useful in trying to understand a
culture; the ethnographer must take the raw data and interpret that data into what he thinks is really
going on. According to Geertz, cultural analysis and interpretation is most effective when we [guess]
at meanings, [assess] the guesses, and [draw] explanatory conclusions from the better guesses (Geertz,
20). This way of analyzing data is what makes cultural anthropology interpretive, since we are making
them using our own insight in a qualitative

  • 2. Animal Cell Structure Animal cells are a type of eukaryotic cell with a nucleus, membrane bound organelles, with no cell wall. Here is a summary of their structure and function. Prokaryotes are the primitive, simple cells of bacteria and their bacteria like Archaea. Eukaryotes, which include the most advanced cells of animals, plants, fungi, protozoan, algae, and slime water molds. Eukaryotic cells share many similar characteristics, including some of the following structures, which can be found in the cells of animals. Glycocalyx: Some animal and protozoan cells have this outer layer anchored to the plasma membrane. Gycocalyces help animal cells stick to each other and protect cells from dehydration. This layer is not present in eukaryotic cells that have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Peroxisomes are required by any cell that uses respiration (oxygen to extract energy from food). Mitochondria: These double membrane bound organelles are like tiny powerhouses of the cell, producing a nucleotide coenzyme that transports energy for use within the cell. Cytoplasm: The inside of the cell, between the nucleus and plasma membrane, is filled with a gel like fluid in which the organelles are suspended. The liquid portion of cytoplasm is called cytosol. Cytoskeleton: This network of fibers and tubules is present throughout the interior of the cell, providing support, anchoring organelles, helping with intracellular transport and cell division. Centrioles and centrosomes: Only present in animal cells and some fungal cells, a pair of centrioles is located near the nucleus, in a region called the centrosome. These organelles are composed of microtubules, help build flagella and cilia and form mitotic spindles during cell division. An animal cell undergoing mitosis and stained with ... • 3. Informative Essay On The Movie Bully Description of Documentary: When children are pushed to commit foolish activities or suicide because of bullies, one can tell there is something wrong with the way situations are being handled in our society. The documentary, Bully, presents countless examples of the effects of bullying and how poorly circumstances are managed. Through instances resulting in juvenile detention or taking one s own life, the documentary displays various ways kids deal with torment. As we follow the lives of five different youths suffering at the hands of their peers, we see just how much these kids go through with little to no support. The first family we meet has recently lost their son, Tyler, to suicide at the age of 17. Tyler s dad recounts the way Tyler transformed from being a bubbly child to a loner. Tyler s dad discusses how he knew that Tyler was getting shoved into lockers and being told to hang himself, and that he understands why Tyler took his own life. Tyler s mom then shows us Tyler s old room where he committed suicide, how his younger brother, Troy, found him, and how they changed the room into an office to work on their anti bullying stuff. Tyler s parents are both extremely understanding and want to celebrate Tyler s life by helping others experiencing mistreatment. Unfortunately, the school would not take any responsibility for what happened, dismissing all accusation, and left all bullying unpunished. Even at a town meeting, no representative from the school came to hear ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Tannen And Sontag Women have historically been seen as sex objects while men have been seen as success objects. by Deborah Tannen s Marked Women and, A Woman s Beauty: Put Down or Power Source? by Susan Sontag, The Men We Carry in Our Minds by Scott Russell Sanders, and Man Bashing: Trivial Pursuits or a Truth with Consequences? by Warren Farrell discuss these two sides to gender roles. While Sanders and Farrell make some quality points about men s struggle in society, overall, Tannen and Sontag present a stronger argument about the challenges women face in today s society. Tannen and Sontag argue that women are made to be sex objects by society; they are pressured to try to look beautiful while also being degraded as superficial and inept. As Sontag ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sander s essay focuses on his childhood when men were working in manual labor jobs for the most part and women largely staying at home. This is not the case in today s society where women are also expected to get jobs most of the time. In this way, the burden on men to bring in the money has lessoned but women still face the pressure of being beautiful. Tannen exposes this more current set of problems for women when she discusses the expectation that women look presentable at work. She writes, The range of women s hairstyles is staggering, but a woman whose hair has no particular style is perceived as not caring about how she looks, which can disqualify her for many positions, and will subtly diminish her as a person in the eyes of some. Whereas men do not have to think about their hairstyles and general appearance for work men s hair has to be unusual to be marked and no makeup is unmarked for men women must consider how much makeup and what hair do they will do. Every style for women is marked and not taking the time to decide on a style marks a woman as not put together. Even the arguments that Farrell brings up for what problems men face in today s society which are often invalid seem inconsequential compared to the points Tannen and Sontag make about the daily struggles women face. Farrell makes points such as the one that self help writers voice only women s side of the argument about toilet seats being put down after men use the toilet. No one suggests thanking the man for putting it up so he gets nothing on it. And no one asks why a woman expects the toilet to always be as it is in women s rooms, and never as half the toilets are in men s rooms: urinals, he debates. Practically, his idea that all ... Leaders must act, they must willingly risk the things they love and unfortunately, many leaders are frozen by the lethargy of indecision i. Union General George B. Confederate politicians, including President Jefferson Davis, believed the prospect of foreign recognition would increase if they won a victory on Northern soil; such a victory might gain recognition and financial support from Britain and France, something that was vastly needed xiii. While in pursuit, two soldiers in General McClellan s 75,500 man Army of the Potomac, stumbled upon an amazing find. On the morning of September 13, in a clover field on the outskirts of Frederick, MD, CPT Barton Mitchell and 1SG John Bloss found a bulky envelope by the road xiv. In it was a sheet of paper wrapped around three cigars and marked Confidential . It was headed Special Orders No 191 and signed by Command of GEN. R.E. Lee xv. Before noon, it was in the hands of General McClellan xvi. From Special Order 191, McClellan learned the objectives, the timetables, and the makeup of the four columns of Lee s Army xvii. The order indicated that Lee had divided his Army and dispersed portions geographically to Harpers Ferry, WV and Hagerstown, MD, thus making each subject to isolation and defeat if McClellan could move quickly enough xviii. Rather than using the advantage to reposition his forces in overwhelming numbers, he waited 18 hours before taking advantage of his intelligence. As it happened, it was just enough time for General Lee to evade outright disaster xix. While Lee had only 15,000 men at Sharpsburg and the first troops of

Transition is the process or period of changing from one state to another. Every single one of us have experienced both positive and negative changes throughout our lives that have had an impact on our attitudes and behaviour. The novel by J.C Burke The story of Tom Brennan and the film What s eating Gilbert Grape? by Lasse Hallström both explore the notion of personal development being caused by an individuals approach towards transformation. Since Daniel and Tom do not get along with each other very well Tom eventually decides to step up and face forward one of his fears, to visit his brother who is in jail after his terrible mistake and decision to drink drive. I want to see Daniel this weekend. This states that Tom wants to be fearless for once and go and see his brother and tell him what is happening with the rest of the family and how they are feeling after what had happened. In parallel to the film, Arnie is sort of like a reminder to the audience that his mental state of a little boy acting childish wants to climb the water tower. The shot is shallow because only one dimension is focused on Arnie while the water tower is out of focus. In a way the water tower symbolizes the burden that Gilbert has been in as the main supporter of the family, taking care of Arnie as his mother, Bonnie is obese due to the fact that her husband has died and she has not been out of the house for 7 years which proves that she can not take the role and responsibility of taking care of her children because she has fallen into a depressive state. • 9. Front Porch Campaign Essay The 1920 presidential election proved to be memorable as well as historically significant for a number of reasons. This time period is surrounded by important events in American history. It falls directly after World War I, starts the roaring twenties, and leads the United States into the Great Depression. Warren G. Harding was elected president over all other candidates, with promises of life going back to normal conditions. At this point in time, American citizens were desperate for one thing: their old normal life. The election of 1920 was important because our nation had just gotten out of World War I, the vote ended in a landslide, and Harding changed the United States for the worse. Preceding the Election The year was 1919 and the fighting of World War I had finally come to an end. However, this did not mean an end for America s internal issues. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rather than facing his opponent, James Cox, Harding campaigned against Wilson. Aforementioned, Wilson was paralyzed, therefore Harding was only running against the idea of Wilson or what he had previously stood for. He promised America change, but not a progressive change that Wilson had provided. He gave the people the promise of normalcy, or a promise to restore the country to the state it was in before the war. To enforce this promise even more severely, he ran a more personal campaign. This was called a front porch campaign and it s purpose was to get supporters to come see and talk to him on his actual front porch. It had worked for other presidents, but a prodigious reason he did this was to be contrary to Wilson. Harding wanted to portray himself as calm and collected compared to Wilson s campaign that took him and his failing ideas all over the United States. (Pietrusza 315). Catch 22 is a book set during World War II and shows an American B 52 bombardier named Yossarian and displays his experiences at a U.S. Air Force base in the small island of Pianosa west of Italy. Catch 22 is renowned by many who have enjoyed the book s realism and use of satire, but some beg to differ and often criticize the book over the excessive use of profanity. In some cases the book has been outright banned such as the case in Strongsville, Ohio where the school district banned the book from school libraries due to the use of profanity and racial slurs repeated often throughout the book. Many schools across ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since the 1st amendment guarantees the right to freedom of the press among other things books are protected under said right as decided by Lamont v. Postmaster General (1965), a book can not be banned from schools because a school is an extension of the government, and if a school were to ban a book because of language, violence, etc. the government would essentially be suppressing the 1st amendment. A quote from the American Library Association website from a court case which involved Strongsville school board attempting to ban Catch 22 from the school district is as follows, The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit ruled against the School Board, upholding the students First Amendment right to receive information and the librarian s right to disseminate it. The removal of books from a school library is a much more serious burden upon the freedom of classroom discussion than the action found unconstitutional in Tinker v. Des Moines School District (Notable 1st Amendment Court Cases). The 1st amendment protects the rights of the book to remain inside of schools because if Catch 22 was banned that school would be suppressing the 1st amendment right therefore breaking the constitution. You spend hours analyzing this thing, but because this thing is insignificant, your efforts are pointless. But, even with this knowledge, you continue your stream of pointless analyzation every single day for as long as you can remember. This is my life and that analyzation stems from my obsession with perfection. Perfection isn t easily attainable; to make something flawless at every angle requires a lot of time and effort which is why one cannot be perfect at everything. This idea may seem intuitive to most people, but not for me. My mind has completely expelled this principle and, instead, has fostered this ill minded belief that everything in my life should be perfect, even if it s something insignificant. Similarly, in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, the nation of Europe and other countries took over and influenced countries that they believed were inferior to them. This process, known as imperialism, is defined as a policy of extending a country s power and influence through diplomacy or military force (google.com). Clearly, making money was important to European nations, so that is how the economy influenced imperialism during this time period. The economy was not the only force responsible for imperialism in Europe; another very important cause was the political aspect that related to government affairs. According to Raymond Aron, imperialism was caused by political ambitions... the nations will to power... [or] glory or national greatness. This means that Europe used imperialism because they wanted to be the most powerful force in the world and have glory over everyone else. Specifically, this political power was apparent in the French military because they had the strongest weapons, warships, soldiers, and cannons (Gian, Phantom Thanh). Therefore, they were easily able to take over other any desired country and go wherever they wanted without resistance. Furthermore, another political cause of imperialism was that many nations wanted to gain land and natural resources by taking over lesser countries. One of these unfortunate countries was Africa, as shown in a 1914 map. In it, Africa was divided into numerous territories that were ruled by seven total countries: Britain, France, Belgium, Germany, Portugal, Italy, and Spain (African Map in 1914). But if you have a toddler that you must take with you, it will present a set of unique problems. You will need to keep your toddler occupied, safe, and entertained. Here s how. 1. Don t try and travel too far at one time with a toddler in the car. Three hours of traveling is about the limit for a toddler. You will then need to stop and get out of the car. Give the toddler some time to move around a bit and get some fresh air. The exercise will do him good and he may get tired out enough that he may sleep during the next leg of the trip. Be sure to bring some snack foods with you to give him something to munch on. 2. Also consider where your toddler will sleep. Is he used to sleeping on something other than a bed? If he is, then you don t have anything to worry about. But if he isn t, then you may need to do some thinking concerning sleeping arrangements. 3. Be careful where you camp. I don t think you want to be too close to a lake or pond. Your toddler could wander in that direction very quickly without you noticing. In fact, you need to keep an eye on him constantly. There are many hazards in a camping environment that could injure him. 4. Be sure to make the trip fun for the toddler. Try and arrange things that will be fun for him to do. Theory Of Property Rights By Harold Demsetz Theory of Property Rights By Harold Demsetz (UChicago) The concept and role of property rights It this first part, Demsetz offers a more theoretical foundation for the concepts he will use in the following parts. The author starts defining the idea of property rights and differentiating how they transmit the right to benefit or harm oneself or others. After, he links it with the recognition a close relationship between property rights and externalities. The process of Internalizing such effects refers to a change in property rights, that enables these effects to bear (in greater degree) on all interacting persons. They become part of the economy. The example of the military draft is used later to show how the costs of internalization have to be higher to its gains. The lower the cost the greater the number of transactions and the degree to which they take place. Lastly, in this section, Demsetz defines the framework of his analysis, what would happen if transaction costs of internalizing were zero? Puritans religious beliefs produced ideas that God s will was to lead a community based on peace. God had set high expectations for a happy and trustworthy community. However, if a community did not live up to the expectations, God would destroy the community. Therefore, Puritan leaders felt the need to enforce strict rules so Puritans could not disobey the ideals. If anyone did not conform, they were called an impostor who did not belong in the community. If Puritans allowed freedom of worship, dissenters would not be banished from the community because all ideologies could potentially exist peacefully. The only time dissenters existed were in communities that limited freedom of rights. Along with most communities, there are differences from popular belief which leaders try to disestablish. So, when section 65A of the Indian Copyright (Amendment) Act, 2012 was notified , a legal analysis seemed to be pertinent for this provision, introducing Digital Rights Management (DRM) in India, would indeed have a palpable effect on almost all Indian consumers of digital media. Section 65A of the Indian Copyright (Amendment) Act, 2012 provides legal protection to technological protection measures (or TPM e.g. digital locks, encryption), such that the circumvention of such TPM is prohibited, while tools or devices aiding circumvention may be permitted for the purpose of fair use. Such use of TPM for the purpose of access control is classified as DRM and can take many forms limiting number of installations and plays , limiting content to certain file types , limiting content to be played on particular software etc. We first analyze this provision in comparison with similar US and EU provisions and try to understand whether it is a favourable addition to Indian IP law, especially in the context of its political economic background. There are several sources of heat. These sources are chemical, mechanical, electrical, and nuclear. Chemical The most common source of heat for the purpose of firefighting comes from chemical reactions. When something burns, it is the result of a chemical reaction where heat is being released. Pyrolysis is the decomposition or transformation of a compound caused by heat. (Coleman, et al. 81) Mechanical The mechanical source of heat deals the heat that is created from friction. Friction is a resistive force that occurs from the rubbing or compression of materials. For firefighters, this source of fire is seen mostly in industrial machinery (Coleman, et al. 81). Electrical An electric current exists when there is a net flow of charge through a given area. Electrons flow from the negatively charged region to the positively charged region. This is usually accomplished by using an electrical conductor which allows the electrons to pass freely through the material (Serway, et al. 709). This flow of electrons can generate heat when collisions between the molecules and electrons occur. These collisions then cause the molecules to break apart thus releasing heat. Some common examples of electrical energy are lightning, static electricity, and wiring outlets (Coleman, et al. 82). For the wildland firefighter, lightning is probably the ... The most common and minor form of these injuries is a lateral ankle sprain, which is caused by an inversion stress to the joint of the ankle. One doctor was able to discover that using an ankle brace during athletic performance did not increase the risk of injury. Our research showed that knee biomechanics known to be risk factors for ACL injury did not appear to be negatively impacted by wearing a lace up ankle brace. (Aerni, Giselle, 2012). If athletes wear prophylactic ankle braces during athletic activities, then they are more likely to be subjected to knee injuries. The study will analyze the effect that prophylactic ankle braces cause to the joints of the knee and determining if it increases the stress placed on them. The primary function of a prophylactic ankle that is being used is to put a restriction on the inversion range of motion it usually has, since it is where most injuries occur in an ankle sprain. What people don t know is that it also decreases your overall performance, total range of motion, and other kinematics as well. Although both organelles have similarities with the nucleus and work with it to complete various functions it is evidential that the nucleus is more crucial. From there can be transported to different parts of the RER and eventually to other organelles that require them such as mitochondria (Kaiser, 2007). The first source that will be evaluated in depth is Ron Chernow s book Alexander Hamilton which was published in 2005. The origin of this source is valuable because Chernow is a historian and writer who graduated from Yale university, Pembroke College, and Cambridge. The purpose of Alexander Hamilton is to tell the story of the first secretary of the treasury and his influence on the new nation from his birth in 1755 to his death in 1804. This is valuable, because as the author of more than half of The Federalist, extensive knowledge on Hamilton s political pursuits and views is helpful in creating an informed conclusion. One of the most notable themes within the novel is the idea of good versus evil. This theme adds extreme depth to the text, as the reader is left to decide which character is good and which is evil. Shelley s use of intertextuality in the novel emphasises her point, especially with the inclusion of the strong influence that Milton s Paradise Lost has on the monster. With Disney s worldwide influence on children and media, it s hard not to think of the repercussions of the princess phenomenon. Now, what s so wrong about Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs ? In the Great Basin they had to live through hot summers and cold winters. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Ute believe that they were brought here from the south in a magic sack carried by the god Sinauf. Sinauf is half wolf and half man. They also had Shamans that could use a healing power obtained through dreams or other Shamans. Shamans could heal people with songs, dances, and more. The Ute people also practice ceremonies like the Bear Dance and Sun Dance. The Bear Dance was held in the Spring at the same time that the Bear was out of hibernation. The dance was done in a large brush enclosure. It lasted about ten days, and it propitiated bears to increase hunting. The Sun Dance was borrowed from the Plains Tribes. The dance is held in July and it lasted for four days and nights. The Sun Dance was held to increase community esteem and welfare, it was also symptomatic of the feelings of despair that they were feeling. They danced in hope for a vision or cure for the sick. The Ute also made pictographs and petroglyphs on rocks. Some of the pictographs and petroglyphs can be seen in Moab National ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Moral Of Noah Research Paper When growing up as a Christian, some of the first Bible stories ever told are the stories found in Genesis. These stories were a fun and simple place to start for young Christians, but behind them all are important moral stories. However, as a child most of these morals were harder to see and it isn t until later that they are brought to attention. The story of Noah is no different, in the fact that it contains several great morals that are applicable today. Before discussing the morals of the story, it is important to first know the story of Noah. Noah is first introduced into the Bible in Genesis 5:29 as the son of Lamech, who names in saying He will comfort us in the ground the Lord has cursed . This sets up the main story of Noah and ... • 31. Sex Allocation And The Reproductive Organs Sex allocation refers to the amount of parental resources assigned to male versus female offspring in a sexually reproducing species {Charnov:1982wg, Brunet:1992fg,West:2010ws} and the extent of this allocation in the organism s fitness. In angiosperms, the flowers are the reproductive organs, but opposite to most animals, the presence of male and female organs varies among species resulting in a large diversity of breeding systems. Those breeding systems are defined on the basis of the presence and fertility of male or female reproductive organs either in the same flower or in the same individual. Then, breeding systems can be categorized as monomorphic, when individuals have both male and female functions (hermaphroditism and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the mathematical foundation of sex ratio is based on animal systems {Fisher:1930wy, Charnov:1982wg, West:2010ws}, and not directly comparable with all breeding systems of plants, mostly because the limitation in pollen and seed dispersal {Field:2012cc}, and for the unequally of nuclear gene s contribution to the next generation {Lloyd:1974jca}. Darwin developed the first approach to the studying of sex allocation in plants when differences in sex ratio in dioecious and gynodioecious species generated a problem for the theory of natural selection {Darwin:1877fw, West:2010ws}. Later, {Fisher:1930wy} stated a widespread mathematical explanation where sex ratio would be stabilized due that each individual has a mother and a father and that natural selection would favor the offspring with the rare sex in the population {Carnov:1982wg}. The main foundations include i. when the female and the male offspring have equal reproductive cost to produce, natural selection will act to balance the sex ratio of the population ii. Parents producing a high number of the cheaper offspring to produce will be favored in their relative fitness. iii. natural selection favors the rarer sex {West:2010ws, Sinclair:2011je}. Fisher s Model Fisher (1930) provided a widespread explanation of why an equal number of male and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Structure Of Calvin s Soteriology Essay II. union with Christ i. Structure of Calvin s soteriology in Book III in light of Union with Christ In Book III which is his soteriology, Calvin starts the work of Holy Spirit by introducing Union with Christ as the mechanism which connects the work of Christ and it s targeting object, the believer. In fact, Union with Christ acts as a sub motif running through entire Book III. In the first three chapters, Calvin unfolds this union which is a description of a certain relationship first founded by the secret energy of the Spirit and resulting in the faith in the believer. In the end of Book III, Calvin concludes the goal of the work of the Holy Spirit through union is to bring union with God to those who have faith in Christ and therefore are grounded by this union with Christ in the final resurrection. And in between, Calvin explains at length that what happen in this relationship is the double grace, sanctification and justification, in which defines that salvation must consist of human recognition in the light of the work of the Holy Spirit. In the following chapter, I will first discuss how the humanity of Christ relate to our union with Christ from the soteriological perspective. And the next chapter will move the loci to the transition from union with Christ to the communion with God in light of the humanity of Christ. Finally, I will try to provide the eschatological perspective of the humanity of Christ in our communion with God and to conclude that why it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Thick Description Analysis Joelle Moussi ANTH 101A Quiz Section F Reading Response #1 A thick description is a meaningful description of an action not only the simple, physical process of the action but also the significance, intention, and context behind that action. Analyzing culture through thick descriptions allows us to go beyond simple observations and understand why people do what they do, so that a cultural status quo can become more familiar to us. Clifford Geertz suggests that the concept of culture... is essentially a semiotic one (Geertz, 5), which means that culture is a shared, public system of meanings and symbols. Thus, in order to have an adequate study of culture so that we can better interact with others, we must analyze the signs and symbols used by a culture to gain meaning within that culture. With this in mind, Geertz uses the concept of thick ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With this in mind, Geertz goes on to suggest that cultural anthropology is not an experimental science in search of law but an interpretive one in search of meaning (Geertz, 5). Since anthropology is a symbolic endeavor, creating thick descriptions is thought of as an interpretive study, especially considering that we must ourselves actually infer all of the symbolic implications around us. In other words, raw observational data collected by an ethnographer is not useful in trying to understand a culture; the ethnographer must take the raw data and interpret that data into what he thinks is really going on. According to Geertz, cultural analysis and interpretation is most effective when we [guess] at meanings, [assess] the guesses, and [draw] explanatory conclusions from the better guesses (Geertz, 20). This way of analyzing data is what makes cultural anthropology interpretive, since we are making them using our own insight in a qualitative ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
