Gilgamesh As An Existential Hero
Incredibly, one of the first recorded written works has much in common with one of the most modern
philosophical movements. Though the Epic of Gilgamesh was written from oral narration centuries
before the philosophy of existentialism was developed, the epic encompasses many of the main ideas
of Sartrean existentialism. Jean Paul Sartre developed existentialism as a characterization of the
human condition, and the movement that followed his ideas formed distinct literary tropes. Among
these is the existential hero, and in this case, the failed existential hero. Initially, Gilgamesh shows
development, becoming more important on a universal scale by becoming essential . However,
Gilgamesh, when faced with the fact of his own mortality, fails to accept it and is crippled by his own
existential dread. Though Gilgamesh elevates himself to a human living with essence, in the
existential view, he is unable to overcome the questions of mortality that plague him in the aftermath
of tragedy.
Existentialism was a philosophic and literary movement that peaked in popularity in the mid 1900 s.
First expounded by Sartre, the movement was initially a description of humanity, and attempted to
define what it meant to be human. In defining this, existentialism addressed questions about human
mortality, and the significance of life. One of the main principles in Sartrean existentialism is the
concept that existence precedes essence (Existentialism, Stanford Encyclopedia of

To What Extent Has Modern Liberalism Departed from the...
To what extent has modern liberalism departed from the ideas of classical liberalism?
The further development of industrialisation led to social and economic inequality. This led to a
revision of classical liberal ideas to prevent the spread of ignorance and poverty. It is suggested that
modern liberals have betrayed classical liberal ideas as they embrace collectivism and diverge from
classical liberalism on issues such as freedom. However, it can be argued that modern liberals have
simply built on classical liberal ideas such as its commitment to the individual.
One area in which it is suggested that modern liberalism has departed from classical liberalism is
individualism. Classical liberals believe in egoism, that individuals are ... Show more content on

Mill disagreed with Bentham as he believed in higher and lower pleasures that can be derived from
actions and promoted those pleasures which developed an individual s skills and abilities rather than
short term pleasure seeking actions. He placed emphasis on individual development and flourishing.
Another area in which it is suggested that modern liberalism has departed from classical liberalism is
freedom. Classical liberals believe in negative freedom. This is simply that there should be an absence
of external constraints on the individual and as such they should be left alone to make their own
choices. In this way classical liberals were heavily influenced by the natural rights theories of John
Locke and Thomas Jefferson. Jefferson claimed that we were born with inalienable rights and
therefore no individual or government had the right to take these away. Freedom from constraints is
therefore an essential condition for exercising these rights. In practise, this has meant that classical
liberals have advocated a minimal state or what John Locke referred to as the night watchman state .
The activities of this state should be limited to the enforcement of contracts, maintaining order and
protection from foreign threats to prevent the state from infringing on individual liberties as much as
possible.
Modern Liberals on the other hand have advocated a more positive interpretation of freedom. Positive

Ten Years Ago A Journalist With The New York Times Committed
Ten years ago a journalist with the New York Times committed plagiarism on an article. Moreover, it
was later found he previously committed plagiarism before that while employed in other writing
capacities. Blair attended the University of Maryland where he studied journalism. He interned at The
New York Times in 1998 and offered an extended internship. However, he declined the offer of the
extended internship to complete more courses before graduating (Bailey, 2008). In 1999 Blair returned
to The New York Times as an intermediate reporter . Moreover, according to 30 staff members on The
times a letter signed by them in 2003 reported that Blair made four serious errors as a writer and editor
that brought his integrity into question ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, it was later found that Blair s time at prior journalist jobs, as well as, his college newspaper
showed similiar questionable behavior, but The Times ignored Blair s potential for use of unethical
journalism methods (Bailey, 2008). In addition, it was later found that Blair s senior editor warned
Blair a number of times about possible plagiarism. However, for whatever reason The Times ignored
these warning, stating that they placed complete trust in its employees. In fact The Times compared
the paper to other entities replying, like Every newspaper, like every bank and every police
department, we trust our employees to uphold central principles (Bailey 2008, p.1). However, in many
ways The New York Times blind trust policy was unchecked and even promoted Blair s unethical
behavior (Mnookin, 2005).
Jayson Blair s New York Time s scandal would never have happened if The Times had a better system
of validating and checking for possible plagerism before a story was sent for print. Moreover, as
Tannenbaum (2003) mentions in her article there were plagiarism detection tools present that could
have been used and would have averted the Blair scandal. The New York Times like other newspapers
determined that they did not have to check their writer s stories for accuracy or possible plagerism.
Unfortunately, Blair crossed the line and ignored the majority of the journalism codes of

Potential Dialogue Between Civilizations And The Clash Of...
I. Introduction
As being stated by Samuel P. Huntington, the Clash of Civilization is a hypothesis in which the
primary sources of conflicts in the post cold war era are more dominant to the people s cultural and
religious identities. Civilization has three attributes which are the objective elements language, history
religion, customs, and institution; the subjective elements variable levels of self identification; and
civilization itself is dynamic they rise and fall, divide and merge. Dialogue between civilizations are
also needed and will give significant impacts for not only both civilizations but also for the world.
This paper would like to discuss and analyze two cases about the possibility of Post American World
Order towards the potential Dialogue between Civilizations or the Clash of Civilizations theory; and
the contribution of Dialogue between Civilizations towards the management of negative impact in this
globalization era.

West and Chinese Civilizations. The clash of civilizations that will be occurred by both the West and

different civilizations compete for economic power, struggle over the control, and competitively

Alfred P. Murrah Speech Analysis
The bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building on April 19, 1995 not only changed the lives of
Oklahomans, but also changed the lives of individuals all over the world. The Oklahoma City
Bombing killed 168 people, including 19 young children who were in the building s day care center at
the time of the blast. More than 650 other people were injured in the bombing, which damaged or
destroyed more than 300 buildings in the immediate area (History Staff, 2009). This terrorist attack on
U.S. soil left many mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, etc. with an empty spot in their heart. President

Dentist Application Essay
As a second time applicant, I have gained experience working in both general dentistry and in
specialty dental practices. Working part time alongside a general dentist gave me the opportunity to do
dental charting, prepare instruments, and provide instructions and advice on brushing and flossing
techniques to patients. I have since developed a habit of taking detailed notes and drawings of the
surgery in my own journal to reinforce my learning. At the office, I noticed that a lot of patients walk
into the office with pain that even interrupts their daily lives. In many of the cases, the handiwork of a
dentist provided the patients immediate help by relieving them from pain. My observations and
experiences working in a dental office have taught me these rewarding moments, which have
solidified my goal to become a dentist.
Furthermore, I explored many specialty practices, such as oral surgery, periodontics, and endodontics,
which allowed me to observe many different courses of treatment. Luckily, this shadowing
opportunity opened the door to a position working at Berkeley Orinda Oral Surgery. Because this was
an office with four oral surgeons and more than 25 staff members and surgical assistants, ... Show

Symptoms And Treatment Of Phobias
Fear is an aspect of life people deal with every day. Being afraid is part of what makes people human.
Fear that grows with adulthood or causes people to have different conduct is known as a phobia. A
phobia can elicit physical or emotional discomfort when it comes to the fear of an object or situation
that can be treated by therapy or medication in most cases, or untreatable in others. There are four
subtypes of specific phobias known as: blood injection injury, animal, situational, and natural
environment. Sometimes treatment of phobias can be difficult to determine because of the wide range
of phobias that exist. There has not been an adequate amount of research conducted on phobias which
makes it difficult to study or comprehend ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A research group stated Specific phobia is one of the most prevalent disorders in the general
population and yet it has received limited attention from researchers in the growing field of
neuroscience (Caseras et al., 2010). The need for understanding phobias is imperative for the people
who are suffering from the symptoms that challenge their daily life. One study has done research on
links between the phobias and neurobiological substrates. The authors state:
Moreover the degree of provoked anxiety by phobia relevant images was strongly associated with
activity in the dorsal ACC and the anterior insula in the SP phobics but not in the BII phobics. These
differences in blood oxygen level dependent (BOLD) response could suggest the existence of distinct
neurobiological substrates associated with specific phobia subtypes, challenging the view of specific
phobia as a unitary entity (Caseras et al., 2010).
This study may prove that there could be a cure to phobic reactions if they can find the cause of the
phobia. These studies of the dynamics of the brain could be revolutionary in the world of phobia
diagnosis and treatment of patients.
There are excessive amounts of phobias that have been medically determined. About 4.4% percent of
the adult population in the USA has one or more phobias which will mostly persist for years and
become chronic; complete remissions without

Country Music Vs Rap Music Analysis
Music is filled with emotion throughout the genres. Country, rap, pop, jazz, classical, indie,
alternative, and rock are all individual types of music. Different artists display diverse emotions
through their music. Country and rap are two totally opposite types of music. Country is mellow and
romantic, while rap is fast paced and sometimes very inappropriate. As a child, many want to listen to
upbeat, cheerful music. As a teen or young adult, we listen to multiple genres, exploring our interests.
The difference between my music that I listened to in in my younger years compared to now is not
distinctive. When I was younger I listened to many different types of music. My sister listened to the

Piaget s Stage Theory of Cognitive Development
The Piaget s Theory
The Piaget s stage theory of cognitive development is also known as the stage theory. It introduces
that, in the expansion of our thinking, we act through an organized and certain sequence of steps.
However, the theory focuses not only on compassionate how the children obtain knowledge, but
likewise on the discernment of the substance of intelligence. According to the Piaget s theory of
cognitive development, there are two stages in the thinking pattern of a 3 year old preschooler and 9
year old student. They are the preoperational stage for the 2 to 7 year old and the concrete operations
stage for the 9 year old. The preoperational stage (three years old preschooler), this is where a new
child can intellectually perform and signify to the objects and issues with the quarrel or the images,
and they can act. The concrete operations (nine year old student), where a child is at the stage and
deliver the ability to maintain, reserve their thinking, and analyze the objects in conditions of their
many parts. However, they can also assume logically and understand comparison, but only about the
concrete events. Firstly, the stage of pre operational, which lasts until about age seven, in which the
children have the ability of many feats that they could not achieve prior. For instance, they commence
to making to believe in play, achieving simple routines, such as venturing to eat or get to kip.
However, in order to organize play, they must symbolize those

The Effects Of Violent Video Games On Children s Behavior
The effect of violent video games on children s behavior has been the major concern of numerous
researchers over the last several decades. Indeed, a great number of researches conducted by
psychologists show that regular exposure to violent video games has both long term and short term
negative effects on a player s behavior. Aggressiveness and lack of empathy are considered to be two
main outcomes of constant playing games with violent content. However, it should be noted that the
content is not the only criteria that should be taken into account when measuring games effects on
behavior. Indeed, much attention should be paid to the difficulty of games and time spent on playing.
Thus, a brief overview of studies concerning the violent video games effect and those disproving this
idea along with the analysis of other factors affecting children s behavior such as moral standards and
family environment will show that violent video games are not principal factors that affect children s
behavior and cause child violence.
When analyzing different studies proving the idea that all violent video games lead to aggressiveness
and violence, it is important to mention that all 3 main types of studies have both advantages and
disadvantages. Anderson and Swing distinguished the following types of studies: (a) experimental; (b)
cross sectional correlational; and (c) longitudinal ones (Paludi 47). Thus, experimental studies are
focused on manipulating exposure to violence via media and

Delaney A Taste Of Honey Essay
Delaney s A Taste of Honey , a kitchen sink play, aimed to explore a variety of social issues present in
1950s Britain as it followed the lives of protagonist Jo and her mother, Helen. Though it is the
struggles of the working class that prevail, the role and expectations of women are also widely
explored with Delaney frequently reinforcing what appears to be an alternative view of women, as self
reliant and often outspoken (unlike the norm of a passive housewife, for example).
One of the main ways in which Delaney conveys unconventional views of women is through the
character of Jo. From the onset of the play, Jo appears mature forced to be independent in order to
escape from her mother s alcoholism and questionable parenting, evident ... Show more content on

To a 50s audience, the news of teenage pregnancy would be shocking enough but Jo s attitude towards
motherhood would be seen as scandalous (albeit more anticipated by modern audiences). Jo s lack of
maternal instinct is evident when she proclaims how she hate(s) babies , hate(s) milk and hate(s)
motherhood. Delaney s use of powerful verb hate emphasises the strength of Jo s emotions, and
demonstrates how every woman cannot fit into one ideal that society sets out but when a woman does
stray from it, she is only to be faced with backlash. In fact, many Feminist audiences would argue that
Jo is a brilliant example of what a woman should be and is in many ways better than her irresponsible
mother. The juxtaposition between Jo s hatred of babies and Helen s love for them clearly represents
Jo s more realistic, and in many ways mature nature Helen is clearly obnoxious to her own downfall
and parenting abilities, clearly having no idea of what it takes to raise a child. In this way, the lives of
women are presented as trapped no matter whether or not they follow society s ideal for them,
difficulties will be faced as rejecting norms of the time only leads to

Case Questions
1. How long will it take you to fill a rush order?
Time taken to fill a rush order = MLT = 6 + 2 + 10 + 5 + 2 + 1 = 26 minutes
2. How many orders can you fill in a night, assuming you are open four hours each night?
4 hours per each night = 4 hours * 60 minutes = 240 minutes
Cycle Time = The Duration of the bottleneck = (Setting thermostat and Timer) + (Baking Cookies) = 1
minute + 9 minute = 10 minutes
Maximum no of orders we can fill in a night = (No of minutes per night Duration of First Setup) /
Cycle Time + 1 = ((240 26) / 10) + 1 = 22.4 orders ~ 22 orders

For example, is there a bottleneck operation in your production process that you can expand cheaply?
What is the effect of adding another oven? How much would you be willing to pay to rent an
additional oven?
Assuming
1 order, only 1 dozen cookie
Second order comes in while person is making first batch
Assuming that we add another oven, the cycle time of the ovens would be 5 minutes. The new
bottleneck for the entire process would now be that of mixing the ingredients and dishing the cookies
onto the tray, a process which takes 8 minutes for 1 batch of cookies.
New cycle time = 8 minutes
Maximum no of orders we can fill in a night = (No of minutes per night Duration of First Setup) /
Cycle Time + 1 = ((240 26) / 8) + 1 = 27.75 orders ~ 27 orders
Therefore, we would only be willing to pay at the most, (27 22) orders worth of rent, which = 5 *

Quaternary Ammonium Compounds Research Paper
Quaternary ammonium compounds (QACs), also known as quats, are usually positively charged
molecules with a nitrogen atom that has four other bonds (Sabapathy, 1994). Because of the positive
charge on the nitrogen atom, quaternary ammonium compounds are formulated as a salt and are
usually paired with a negatively charged compound or ion (Sabapathy, 1994). In terms of practical
use, QACs are commonly used as a broad spectrum antimicrobial. In other words, it affects the two
major types of bacteria, Gram positive bacteria and Gram negative (Lu, Wu, Fu, 2007). QACs can be
found in a variety of products, ranging from household products such as Lysol disinfecting wipes to
sanitizing agents commonly used in food service. As with any chemical, toxicity is based on dosage .
It is known that QACs can be toxic, if not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For quaternary ammonium compounds, despite the structural motif of the positively charged nitrogen
atom, it can be classified within different categories based off the specific compound. However, it
appears that affecting cell membrane is the more common mechanism. The chemicals, diquat and
paraquat, which are actually used as an herbicide, are examples of quaternary ammonium compounds
that do not really fall within one specific category of mechanism. Through a redox reaction, both of
these chemicals form superoxide (O2 ) Superoxide is a free radical, which typically is a type of
molecule with an unpaired electron and is consequently extremely reactive. Therefore, superoxide
proceeds to remove electrons from other compounds within the vicinity, which could be as vital as
DNA. Thus, the mode of action for diquat and paraquat is not specific to bacteria or unwanted plant
species, but rather it is similar in plants, bacteria, and

The Life of the Famous English Painter, Sir John Everett...
Sir John Everett Millais was born on June 8, 1829 in Southampton, England to John William Millais
and Emily Marie Millais. Their family had a French background and were wealthy people in the
middle class, partly due to the fact that the mother s family were very successful saddlers, which are
people who were skilled at making saddles (Artmagick 1, Tate 1). When Millais was little he was
considered a child prodigy when it came to painting and his family moved to London in 1838 to
improve contacts with the Royal Academy (Tate 1). At the age of nine Millais was sent to Sass s Art
School, where he was awarded a silver medal at the Society of Arts. In 1840, Millais attended the
Royal Academy as their youngest student ever. At the Royal Academy, Millais would go on to receive
several medals for various paintings and drawings. He won a silver medal in 1843 for drawing of an
antique and a gold medal in 1847 for a painting he named The Tribe of Benjamin Seizing the
Daughter of Shiloh. His first exhibited work at the Royal Academy was Pizarro Seizing the Inca of
Peru in 1846, and it is now held at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London (Tate 1). At the Royal
Academy, Millais befriended William Holman Hunt and Dante Gabriel. These three artists contributed
to the Cyclographic Society and later, in 1848, founded the Pre Raphaelite Brotherhood, which
welcomed all forms of arts and literature (Tate 1). The forming of the Pre Raphaelite Brotherhood was

Similarities And Differences In Sylvia Plath s Forgiving...
When comparing any two types of writing, one must begin with finding the differences and
similarities between the two. A variety of differences and similarities can be found throughout any
types of writing. The poems Forgiving my Father, and Daddy, have some differences but they also
have numerous similarities that stick out to their readers. Lucille Clifton s, Forgiving my Father, and
Sylvia Plath s Daddy, are two unique poems, both based on different scenarios, however, both share an
assortment of noteworthy similarities.
One similarity between Forgiving my Father, and Daddy, is the obvious hatred towards a father figure,
shared between both authors. In the poem Forgiving my Father, Clifton describes her father as an old
lecher old liar, (9 10). Then in Sylvia Plath s Daddy she says this statement about her father But no
less a devil for that, no not, / Any less the black man who, / Bit my pretty red heart in two. (54 56).
Both these quotes illustrate the hatred surrounding the authors fathers. Clifton also says this statement
about her father daddy old pauper old prisoner, old dead man (20). By using these harsh words, she
reveals to the reader the strong hatred that she feels toward her father. Throughout Plath s poem
Daddy, she calls her dad brute multiple times also revealing how, like Clifton, she felt hatred toward
her father. In both the poems the reader is referring to their dead fathers; revealing to the audience that
even after these men have passed away the authors are still unable to forgive their fathers for the pain
they caused in the lives. These are just a few examples of how both Clifton and Plath shows the
audience the hatred they feel toward their fathers.
Hatred toward a father figure is one similarity shared between both Forgiving my Father, and Daddy.
However, the tone both the authors use in their poems are particularly similar. Anger is a strong
feeling and can take over someone s mind if they do not take control of it. Throughout both poems the
authors tone seems to be strongly surrounded around anger, which is shown to toward their father
figurers. Plath says, I have always been scared of you, / With your Luftwaffe, your gobbledygook. (45

Detection And Management Of A Complex Canal Configuration
Title of the article: Detection And Management Of A Complex Canal Configuration In Mesio Buccal
Root Of Maxillary First Molar Using Three Dimensional Imaging. Abstract: This case report discusses
on the identification and management of complex canal configuration of 3 2 1 in the mesio buccal
(MB) root of maxillary left first molar. Careful attention to details in the pulpal floor, application of
knowledge of laws of orifice location along with deepening the sub pulpal groove with ultra sonic tips
helped in identifying the three MB canals. Manual scouting helped to know the anatomic
configuration and use of three dimensional imaging technique, Spiral computed tomography (SCT)
confirmed the same.SCT images showed bucco lingually wide and bulbous mesio buccal root with
three separate canals at coronal third that merged into two canals in the middle and exited as a single

any obsessions.
My first obsession is life. I love life and what you can do with it. I love the way people laugh at a joke

think this one of my obsessions because life can be taken away in a blink of an eye. You never know
when your time is up. So enjoying every second in my eyes is how you ll have the best life possible.
My second obsession is family. I have always loved how families looked in a magazine or on TV. I
love that parents will do anything to make sure their children are loved and safe. And that families do
things together and love each other no matter what. Parents that play outside with the kids and go to
games and concerts. When a child gets hurt, there is a parent there to pick them up. I think this is one
of my obsessions because my mom had me taken away when I was really young. I don t ever
remember her ever picking me up when I fell down or tucking me in at night and kissing me on the
forehead. For a while it was my grandma who did all this but then she got sick, and I had to live with a
family friend, and this is where I still live now. I have always wanted to know what it felt like to have
a happy family. A family that comes to your games because they

Obsession With Fate In The Epic Of Gilgamesh
Society today is fascinated with learning about the history of human culture and society with new
information and revelations being made almost daily. Although with new technology discovering the
past is becoming easier and easier, due to the massive span of human existence, relatively little, in
regards to the grand span of things, is truly known. As time continues to pass, ancient artifacts
continue to deteriorate and history is lost. When The Epic of Gilgamesh was rediscovered in the
nineteenth century, a whole new perspective on life in the past was opened. This story allowed greater
insight into the large flood that occurred many years ago and helped to put the Hebrew Bible into a
time perspective. Both stories feature this flood with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Almost everyone at some point in their life has experienced what appears to be love whether it be
towards a parent, family member, or significant other. Just as fate is a popular concept in our readings,
love can also be seen in nearly any story. One story in particular that features this concept is the Iliad
by Homer. The story revolves around a prince from Troy stealing the wife of a Greek king who he
appears to love. This love drives the two nations to go to war with the warrior Achilles eventually
killing Hector in the end with a blow to the gullet offered swift and certain death (p. 266). Another
story in which love is a prominent aspect is Oedipus the King in which the love of his wife as well as
the shame brought by his wife being his mother leads him to gouge out his own eyes. The notion of
injuring oneself out of love is a concept that also can be seen in many works of literature and popular
culture as well with Oedipus s action being a prime example. The concept of love is one that can link
people with nothing else in common and provide a means for anyone to find mutual ground with a
story. Although the story of Oedipus and Hector are vastly different in overall plot, the concept of love
is important in that it links them

What Are Peak Performers
Peak performers are the rare breed that creates the greats in life, whether it be inventions that change a
civilization, creates an unimaginable feat, or moves a company to success. These rare individuals have
been noted by some as aliens, according to In Search of the Secrets of Peak Performers (Estep, 2005).
Peak performers out perform, over achieve, and accomplish the sought after goal, they set. A study by
the Work Family Institute in Virginia has found seven common traits among peak performers that set
them away for the rest of the race. These individuals see their vision and create a roadmap to meet
their target. They have an increased focus and passion for their work that keeps on track. Reflection of

I completely agree with this assessment, as I am a result driven individual! In my opinion, this is due
to my assessments of situations and myself to improve them and have a proven outcome, several refer

weaknesses the self assessment shows that I have created for myself in being results driven. Putting

the final results, foremost. Sadly, a supporter is the least of the temperaments from my rating, I desire

The Disney Film Version Of Alice
The Disney film version of Alice in wonderland when compared to the The novel Alice in wonderland
by Carroll Lewis, expresses a variety of changes which can alter ideological values. Disney is well
known for taking classic stories and fabricating them for a wider audience. This form of fabrication
can be beneficial, especially in regards to creating various messages that are intended to be perceived
by audiences. Other instances the changes are small and less note worthy. The images left out by
Disney alter the ideologies that are expressed. Much of the Disney film version is quite consistent with
the book, with the addition of certain aspects added from Alice through the looking glass. One crucial
alteration added to the Disney film version is the implication that Alice created wonderland; why in
my world cats and rabbits would reside in fancy houses (Disney). As seen in the first scene when Alice
is singing to herself. This crucial addition to the Disney film version of Alice in wonderland changes
overall themes of the film. It introduces the stresses Alice is dealing with, and her strategy to cope
with these strategies. Alice uses wonderland as a form of escapism to avoid social constructs, which
ultimately allows for growth. The pressures of society can apply an overwhelming strain on
individuals. In particular, girls. The visual appearance of Alice in the Disney film version is slightly
altered from the novel. In the Disney film Alice appears to be a young lady of

Women s Basketball Game Summary
Analysis of the Management of a University of Tennessee Martin s Women s Basketball Game
The management of any given sporting event is thought by the common individual as an easy job to
do when everything is moving in sync and as it should be; however, this is most certainly not the case
most of the time. Many problems will occur sporadically over the course of any sporting event. For
our group, the decision was made to observe a women s basketball game and the process of how to
effectively keep the event functioning. While observing the game itself as well as pregame and
postgame. There were many things that came into question about what events should or should not do.

A Report On The Free Piston Stirling
There are two types of Stirling engines to be considered the kinematic engine and the free piston
engine. Most of the military missions would use Lhe kinematic Stirling that produces mechanical
work directly; and this is the one that has received nearly all the development work to date. The free
piston Stirling is a sealed engine which uses a magnetized power piston to activate alternator coils
outside the pressure walls of the engine, thus producing an electrical output. This configuration avoids
the working fluid leakage problems associated with the moving seals in a kinematic engine, but may
be somewhat less efficient. GENERATOR SETS (MOBILE Electrical power) General Purpose Sets
There are a wide variety of military needs for portable gcneration of electric power to support
weapons systems, communications, housekeeping power, environmental control, and many other
functions. In order to avoid proliferation of makes, models, and sizes, a DoD Standard Family of
Mobile Electric Power Sets has been established from which all users of electric power in the field
must choose to support their system requirements. This family is shown in Table ES 2. It will be noted
that while the power range is 0.5 to 750 kilowatts (kw), the majority of sets are in the 1.5 to 60 kw
range, with the smaller end of the range (under 15 kw) being most numerous. With the exception of
the very small power range, all the engines used are commercially available diesel engines, and there

dyslexia are only getting support and the psychological assessment they need if their difficulty is bad

Cogan educational psychologist and dyslexia researcher. There needs to be more proactive support;
instead of officials acting as gatekeepers [deciding who may and may not receive support and
assistance], we should be there spotting the children who need help, and putting that help in place.
Without that help, they re denied information and access to the curriculum. ( Peter McGuire 2015).

Aerospace and Defense (A D) Industry Competitive Analysis
The Aerospace and Defense (A D) is a highly concentrated industry (Global Edge, n. d.). The market

an oligopolistic competition. The major players in the industry include Boeing, Lockheed Martin,
General Dynamics, Northrop Grumman, and Raytheon, (Choi, 2016). In oligopolistic market,
companies make decisions based on their own actions as well as of others in mind (Johnson, 2014;

Using the game theory allows a company to assess and understand more about itself and its

Pricing strategy: When bidding for the government contracts, the A D companies have to assess and

does a company has to know its own profitable price point, it has to also anticipating how low other

It s Time to Demand More from Corporate America
Michael Moore exposes corporate America s dark side in Roger and Me, Pets or Meat: The Return to
Flint, and The Big One (Moore). These show that corporate America is committing a form of domestic
terrorism by dehumanizing and exploiting their workers then forcing them to the streets to survive.
The actions by individuals such as Roger Smith and Phil Knight are perfect examples of capitalists
constantly oppressing the working class described by Karl Marx. By dehumanizing workers business
owners are able to push them to the streets by closing factories and remain a good public image. Who
cares if these degenerate people lose their jobs?

Doing manual labor and never getting recognition builds on a person after years causing a
dehumanizing effect on them. This is just the beginning of corporate terrorism leading into the later
stage.
After successfully breaking down the working class the CEO is able to close down factories and move
them to countries with lower worker standards to increase profit. This disregard of human life pushes
workers to the streets forcing them into poverty. What do these people have to look forward to after
losing their homes? They live in dirt, disease, and fear with many having to choose between food and
soap (Parker). Now the homeless stand stripped of integrity asking for help. Instead of help they are
viewed as criminals. Peter Marin details the thoughts of many people on homeless, Drinking, doping,

being ridiculed? Why not point at those putting these people on the street? People like Roger Smith.

London, Diagon Alley, A Dark Artifacts Area
Various locations in the UK including London, Diagon Alley, number twelve Grimmauld Place,

Diagon Alley is accessible from Muggle (people who doesn t have magic) London through the Leaky
Cauldron, which is on Charing Cross Road, set between a bookshop and a record shop. The Muggles
who pass by the inn seem to be quite unconscious of its existence. Knockturn Alley, a dark artefacts
area, is an offshoot of Diagon Alley, as are the areas of Horizont Alley and Carkitt Market.
The entrance is behind the Leaky Cauldron in a small, walled courtyard with a dustbin. Diagon Alley
can be accessed by tapping the correct brick in the wall behind the Leaky Cauldron (from the trash
can, three up and two across). The wall goes in a small hole first but forms a large archway. It can also
be accessed by Floo powder and Apparition. There may be other entrances as well.
Inside the Alley is an assortment of restaurants, shops, and other sites; some even have tables out front
with coloured umbrellas. Particularly during the days or weeks before school starts at Hogwarts, the
location is packed with witches and wizards, though shops are open year round as witches and wizards
travel to the location for various goods. While the shops include many school supply locations, there
are also many locations important to the wizarding world, such as Gringotts Wizarding Bank and
Ollivanders. Diagon Alley is also the location of

Christopher Manella is the vice president and controller. He has twenty five years of experience in

Current Concerns of this Organization
Current concern of Mather LifeWays is a high turnover rate. Turnover includes both employees who
quit their jobs and those who are asked to leave. Nurses in Mather LifeWays wanted more
communication and support, along with a feeling of appreciation; CNAs requested in depth clinical
skills that allow them to better care for residents. According to recent glassdoor review of employees
at Mather LifeWays, there is no growth for the employees. The organization just wants the employees
to do the job that they re told to do. Many people working at Mather Lifeways have a fear of losing
their job. Not only that, people stay a long time, so it s difficult for new employees to move into other
positions. Also, it mentioned on glassdoor review managers are coming and going, so it leaves lower
level staff responsible for managing things in the interim, and they often have to help train new
managers.

My Old Battalion Commander, Brigadier General ( Bg )
I have chosen to write about my old Battalion Commander, Brigadier General(BG) Peter Jones. The
then Lieutenant Colonel(LTC) Jones oversaw my Infantry Battalion when I deployed to Ramadi, Iraq.
He displayed numerous attributes that I model my military career from; he had an unwavering
presence and strong intellect. His competence was also the highest that I have ever encountered in my
military career; he was a lead from the front type of leader and strove to achieve nothing but success
whilst keeping the soldiers in his command in the front of his mind. I have set my standards of
leadership off BG Jones and that is why he is my personal leader of influence. I will outline some
examples of him throughout this paper. BG Jones has an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were numerous times were people would try and pressure him into a decision by noting there
was no time for indecision. He could keep his calm, cool manner and think a situation through before
reacting. I think that being able to think things through no matter the situation speaks volumes to what
a leader needs to be. He also showed that not every situation needed to be thought out at that time. He
was known to have thought of contingency plans prior to actions as to cut out reaction time needed
due to him thinking it through before implementation and able to switch tactics on the fly. He showed
this attribute multiple times but one example sticks out in my mind s eye. We had set up a forward
position in Ramadi in what we thought was a hostile minimal area. Once we had set up our hasty area
for command and control of an impending raid we came under small arms fire and a mortar attack. He
had set up sectors of fire and counter fire areas before we had set up even though we were told
numerous times that it was not needed. Due to his intellect, he had taken it into advisement but had
planned on it not being as such and we were able to respond in kind and repel any such attack. I
learned from him that no matter what happens you need to think things through and show a strong
intellect so your soldiers are confident in your decisions and believe in you. BG Jones was a lead from
the front style of leader. He would not sit idly by while his

According to Bromund, the Brexit vote was a landmark in Britain s ability to regain its sovereignty
and regulate its own domestic and foreign policies.
Iain Murray began by explaining that the laws and regulations of the EU constitute a knot, one that the
British must untangle itself from. According to Murray, Brexit could prove to be a disaster depending
on how the British government chooses to move forward. He stated that for Brexit to be a success, the
new British government must set out the vision of an open and welcoming UK, which means open
trade and markets with the entire world. The British Government must invoke Article 50 of the Treaty
of the European Union as a matter of adherence to international law, which will begin negotiations
between the UK and the European Council regarding the withdrawal. Murray remarked that these
negotiations will include the phasing out of the application of EU programs to the UK, the status of
trade arrangements with third parties, and the status of UK and EU nationals resident in the other
jurisdictions. Domestically, he suggested repealing undesirable EU laws and regulations, while
keeping the regulations of value. Murray proposed a Royal Commission on Regulatory Reduction
with the targets of reducing EU generated regulation by 25%, suspecting it could reduce regulations
significantly within five years of Brexit. He signified that the UK cannot apply for membership to the
EEA because it brings with it a significant

Railroad Tunnel Research Paper
Through the black train exhaust smoke pouring out of a large hole at the bottom of the Hoosac
Mountain Range, the date of 1877 slowly appears at the top of the East Portal facade of the Hoosac
Tunnel. The hard work and determination of engineers and workers resulted in the creation of an
American symbol for technological advancement in tunneling. The railroad tunnel passes through the
towns of North Adams and Florida, Massachusetts, stretching 4.75 miles. The construction began in
1854 but after suffering many setbacks, the tunnel was finished and finally approved for train service
in 1875. Throughout the twenty five years, technology drastically improved from the very beginning

The technological progression is astounding since the tools, resources, and knowledge of mountain
ground varied. In the early history of mining, it was first thoroughly developed in the Middle Ages
within the states of Germany, then a Frenchman living in England invented a tunnel shield, and an
American discovered the resourcefulness of using compressed air to prevent water from going into
tunnels that were being dug underground. As mining and tunneling progressed, the industrial need for
developing efficient tools and processes continued to grow as outdated processes continuously failed.
The Hoosac Tunnel was no exception, but because of the magnitude of the project it generated a lot of
interest which resulted in innovation and many experimental machines were created with a goal in

  • 2. Gilgamesh As An Existential Hero Incredibly, one of the first recorded written works has much in common with one of the most modern philosophical movements. Though the Epic of Gilgamesh was written from oral narration centuries before the philosophy of existentialism was developed, the epic encompasses many of the main ideas of Sartrean existentialism. Jean Paul Sartre developed existentialism as a characterization of the human condition, and the movement that followed his ideas formed distinct literary tropes. Among these is the existential hero, and in this case, the failed existential hero. Initially, Gilgamesh shows development, becoming more important on a universal scale by becoming essential . However, Gilgamesh, when faced with the fact of his own mortality, fails to accept it and is crippled by his own existential dread. Though Gilgamesh elevates himself to a human living with essence, in the existential view, he is unable to overcome the questions of mortality that plague him in the aftermath of tragedy. Existentialism was a philosophic and literary movement that peaked in popularity in the mid 1900 s. First expounded by Sartre, the movement was initially a description of humanity, and attempted to define what it meant to be human. In defining this, existentialism addressed questions about human mortality, and the significance of life. One of the main principles in Sartrean existentialism is the concept that existence precedes essence (Existentialism, Stanford Encyclopedia of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. To What Extent Has Modern Liberalism Departed from the... To what extent has modern liberalism departed from the ideas of classical liberalism? The further development of industrialisation led to social and economic inequality. This led to a revision of classical liberal ideas to prevent the spread of ignorance and poverty. It is suggested that modern liberals have betrayed classical liberal ideas as they embrace collectivism and diverge from classical liberalism on issues such as freedom. However, it can be argued that modern liberals have simply built on classical liberal ideas such as its commitment to the individual. One area in which it is suggested that modern liberalism has departed from classical liberalism is individualism. Classical liberals believe in egoism, that individuals are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mill disagreed with Bentham as he believed in higher and lower pleasures that can be derived from actions and promoted those pleasures which developed an individual s skills and abilities rather than short term pleasure seeking actions. He placed emphasis on individual development and flourishing. Another area in which it is suggested that modern liberalism has departed from classical liberalism is freedom. Classical liberals believe in negative freedom. This is simply that there should be an absence of external constraints on the individual and as such they should be left alone to make their own choices. In this way classical liberals were heavily influenced by the natural rights theories of John Locke and Thomas Jefferson. Jefferson claimed that we were born with inalienable rights and therefore no individual or government had the right to take these away. Freedom from constraints is therefore an essential condition for exercising these rights. In practise, this has meant that classical liberals have advocated a minimal state or what John Locke referred to as the night watchman state . The activities of this state should be limited to the enforcement of contracts, maintaining order and protection from foreign threats to prevent the state from infringing on individual liberties as much as possible. Modern Liberals on the other hand have advocated a more positive interpretation of freedom. Positive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Ten Years Ago A Journalist With The New York Times Committed Ten years ago a journalist with the New York Times committed plagiarism on an article. Moreover, it was later found he previously committed plagiarism before that while employed in other writing capacities. Blair attended the University of Maryland where he studied journalism. He interned at The New York Times in 1998 and offered an extended internship. However, he declined the offer of the extended internship to complete more courses before graduating (Bailey, 2008). In 1999 Blair returned to The New York Times as an intermediate reporter . Moreover, according to 30 staff members on The times a letter signed by them in 2003 reported that Blair made four serious errors as a writer and editor that brought his integrity into question ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also, it was later found that Blair s time at prior journalist jobs, as well as, his college newspaper showed similiar questionable behavior, but The Times ignored Blair s potential for use of unethical journalism methods (Bailey, 2008). In addition, it was later found that Blair s senior editor warned Blair a number of times about possible plagiarism. However, for whatever reason The Times ignored these warning, stating that they placed complete trust in its employees. In fact The Times compared the paper to other entities replying, like Every newspaper, like every bank and every police department, we trust our employees to uphold central principles (Bailey 2008, p.1). However, in many ways The New York Times blind trust policy was unchecked and even promoted Blair s unethical behavior (Mnookin, 2005). Jayson Blair s New York Time s scandal would never have happened if The Times had a better system of validating and checking for possible plagerism before a story was sent for print. Moreover, as Tannenbaum (2003) mentions in her article there were plagiarism detection tools present that could have been used and would have averted the Blair scandal. The New York Times like other newspapers determined that they did not have to check their writer s stories for accuracy or possible plagerism. Unfortunately, Blair crossed the line and ignored the majority of the journalism codes of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Potential Dialogue Between Civilizations And The Clash Of... I. Introduction As being stated by Samuel P. Huntington, the Clash of Civilization is a hypothesis in which the primary sources of conflicts in the post cold war era are more dominant to the people s cultural and religious identities. Civilization has three attributes which are the objective elements language, history religion, customs, and institution; the subjective elements variable levels of self identification; and civilization itself is dynamic they rise and fall, divide and merge. Dialogue between civilizations are also needed and will give significant impacts for not only both civilizations but also for the world. This paper would like to discuss and analyze two cases about the possibility of Post American World Order towards the potential Dialogue between Civilizations or the Clash of Civilizations theory; and the contribution of Dialogue between Civilizations towards the management of negative impact in this globalization era. • 7. Dentist Application Essay As a second time applicant, I have gained experience working in both general dentistry and in specialty dental practices. Working part time alongside a general dentist gave me the opportunity to do dental charting, prepare instruments, and provide instructions and advice on brushing and flossing techniques to patients. I have since developed a habit of taking detailed notes and drawings of the surgery in my own journal to reinforce my learning. At the office, I noticed that a lot of patients walk into the office with pain that even interrupts their daily lives. In many of the cases, the handiwork of a dentist provided the patients immediate help by relieving them from pain. My observations and experiences working in a dental office have taught me these rewarding moments, which have solidified my goal to become a dentist. Furthermore, I explored many specialty practices, such as oral surgery, periodontics, and endodontics, which allowed me to observe many different courses of treatment. Luckily, this shadowing opportunity opened the door to a position working at Berkeley Orinda Oral Surgery. • 8. Symptoms And Treatment Of Phobias Fear is an aspect of life people deal with every day. Being afraid is part of what makes people human. Fear that grows with adulthood or causes people to have different conduct is known as a phobia. A phobia can elicit physical or emotional discomfort when it comes to the fear of an object or situation that can be treated by therapy or medication in most cases, or untreatable in others. There are four subtypes of specific phobias known as: blood injection injury, animal, situational, and natural environment. Sometimes treatment of phobias can be difficult to determine because of the wide range of phobias that exist. A research group stated Specific phobia is one of the most prevalent disorders in the general population and yet it has received limited attention from researchers in the growing field of neuroscience (Caseras et al., 2010). The need for understanding phobias is imperative for the people who are suffering from the symptoms that challenge their daily life. One study has done research on links between the phobias and neurobiological substrates. The authors state: Moreover the degree of provoked anxiety by phobia relevant images was strongly associated with activity in the dorsal ACC and the anterior insula in the SP phobics but not in the BII phobics. These differences in blood oxygen level dependent (BOLD) response could suggest the existence of distinct neurobiological substrates associated with specific phobia subtypes, challenging the view of specific phobia as a unitary entity (Caseras et al., 2010). This study may prove that there could be a cure to phobic reactions if they can find the cause of the phobia. These studies of the dynamics of the brain could be revolutionary in the world of phobia diagnosis and treatment of patients. There are excessive amounts of phobias that have been medically determined. About 4.4% percent of the adult population in the USA has one or more phobias which will mostly persist for years and become chronic; complete remissions without ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Different artists display diverse emotions through their music. Country and rap are two totally opposite types of music. Country is mellow and romantic, while rap is fast paced and sometimes very inappropriate. As a child, many want to listen to upbeat, cheerful music. • 10. Piaget s Stage Theory of Cognitive Development The Piaget s Theory The Piaget s stage theory of cognitive development is also known as the stage theory. It introduces that, in the expansion of our thinking, we act through an organized and certain sequence of steps. However, the theory focuses not only on compassionate how the children obtain knowledge, but likewise on the discernment of the substance of intelligence. According to the Piaget s theory of cognitive development, there are two stages in the thinking pattern of a 3 year old preschooler and 9 year old student. They are the preoperational stage for the 2 to 7 year old and the concrete operations stage for the 9 year old. The preoperational stage (three years old preschooler), this is where a new child can intellectually perform and signify to the objects and issues with the quarrel or the images, and they can act. The concrete operations (nine year old student), where a child is at the stage and deliver the ability to maintain, reserve their thinking, and analyze the objects in conditions of their many parts. However, they can also assume logically and understand comparison, but only about the concrete events. Firstly, the stage of pre operational, which lasts until about age seven, in which the children have the ability of many feats that they could not achieve prior. For instance, they commence to making to believe in play, achieving simple routines, such as venturing to eat or get to kip. However, in order to organize play, they must symbolize those ... • 11. The Effects Of Violent Video Games On Children s Behavior The effect of violent video games on children s behavior has been the major concern of numerous researchers over the last several decades. Indeed, a great number of researches conducted by psychologists show that regular exposure to violent video games has both long term and short term negative effects on a player s behavior. Aggressiveness and lack of empathy are considered to be two main outcomes of constant playing games with violent content. However, it should be noted that the content is not the only criteria that should be taken into account when measuring games effects on behavior. Indeed, much attention should be paid to the difficulty of games and time spent on playing. Thus, a brief overview of studies concerning the violent video games effect and those disproving this idea along with the analysis of other factors affecting children s behavior such as moral standards and family environment will show that violent video games are not principal factors that affect children s behavior and cause child violence. When analyzing different studies proving the idea that all violent video games lead to aggressiveness and violence, it is important to mention that all 3 main types of studies have both advantages and disadvantages. • 12. Delaney A Taste Of Honey Essay Delaney s A Taste of Honey , a kitchen sink play, aimed to explore a variety of social issues present in 1950s Britain as it followed the lives of protagonist Jo and her mother, Helen. Though it is the struggles of the working class that prevail, the role and expectations of women are also widely explored with Delaney frequently reinforcing what appears to be an alternative view of women, as self reliant and often outspoken (unlike the norm of a passive housewife, for example). One of the main ways in which Delaney conveys unconventional views of women is through the character of Jo. From the onset of the play, Jo appears mature forced to be independent in order to escape from her mother s alcoholism and questionable parenting, evident ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To a 50s audience, the news of teenage pregnancy would be shocking enough but Jo s attitude towards motherhood would be seen as scandalous (albeit more anticipated by modern audiences). Jo s lack of maternal instinct is evident when she proclaims how she hate(s) babies , hate(s) milk and hate(s) motherhood. Delaney s use of powerful verb hate emphasises the strength of Jo s emotions, and demonstrates how every woman cannot fit into one ideal that society sets out but when a woman does stray from it, she is only to be faced with backlash. In fact, many Feminist audiences would argue that Jo is a brilliant example of what a woman should be and is in many ways better than her irresponsible mother. The juxtaposition between Jo s hatred of babies and Helen s love for them clearly represents Jo s more realistic, and in many ways mature nature Helen is clearly obnoxious to her own downfall and parenting abilities, clearly having no idea of what it takes to raise a child. In this way, the lives of women are presented as trapped no matter whether or not they follow society s ideal for them, difficulties will be faced as rejecting norms of the time only leads to ... Quaternary Ammonium Compounds Research Paper Quaternary ammonium compounds (QACs), also known as quats, are usually positively charged molecules with a nitrogen atom that has four other bonds (Sabapathy, 1994). Because of the positive charge on the nitrogen atom, quaternary ammonium compounds are formulated as a salt and are usually paired with a negatively charged compound or ion (Sabapathy, 1994). In terms of practical use, QACs are commonly used as a broad spectrum antimicrobial. In other words, it affects the two major types of bacteria, Gram positive bacteria and Gram negative (Lu, Wu, Fu, 2007). The chemicals, diquat and paraquat, which are actually used as an herbicide, are examples of quaternary ammonium compounds that do not really fall within one specific category of mechanism. Through a redox reaction, both of these chemicals form superoxide (O2 ) Superoxide is a free radical, which typically is a type of molecule with an unpaired electron and is consequently extremely reactive. Therefore, superoxide proceeds to remove electrons from other compounds within the vicinity, which could be as vital as DNA. • 19. Similarities And Differences In Sylvia Plath s Forgiving... When comparing any two types of writing, one must begin with finding the differences and similarities between the two. A variety of differences and similarities can be found throughout any types of writing. The poems Forgiving my Father, and Daddy, have some differences but they also have numerous similarities that stick out to their readers. Lucille Clifton s, Forgiving my Father, and Sylvia Plath s Daddy, are two unique poems, both based on different scenarios, however, both share an assortment of noteworthy similarities. One similarity between Forgiving my Father, and Daddy, is the obvious hatred towards a father figure, shared between both authors. In the poem Forgiving my Father, Clifton describes her father as an old lecher old liar, (9 10). Then in Sylvia Plath s Daddy she says this statement about her father But no less a devil for that, no not, / Any less the black man who, / Bit my pretty red heart in two. (54 56). Both these quotes illustrate the hatred surrounding the authors fathers. Clifton also says this statement about her father daddy old pauper old prisoner, old dead man (20). By using these harsh words, she reveals to the reader the strong hatred that she feels toward her father. Throughout Plath s poem Daddy, she calls her dad brute multiple times also revealing how, like Clifton, she felt hatred toward her father. In both the poems the reader is referring to their dead fathers; revealing to the audience that even after these men have passed away the authors are still unable to forgive their fathers for the pain they caused in the lives. These are just a few examples of how both Clifton and Plath shows the audience the hatred they feel toward their fathers. Hatred toward a father figure is one similarity shared between both Forgiving my Father, and Daddy. However, the tone both the authors use in their poems are particularly similar. Anger is a strong feeling and can take over someone s mind if they do not take control of it. Throughout both poems the authors tone seems to be strongly surrounded around anger, which is shown to toward their father figurers. London, Diagon Alley, A Dark Artifacts Area Various locations in the UK including London, Diagon Alley, number twelve Grimmauld Place, outside all over london, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Diagon Alley is accessible from Muggle (people who doesn t have magic) London through the Leaky Cauldron, which is on Charing Cross Road, set between a bookshop and a record shop. The Muggles who pass by the inn seem to be quite unconscious of its existence. Knockturn Alley, a dark artefacts area, is an offshoot of Diagon Alley, as are the areas of Horizont Alley and Carkitt Market. The entrance is behind the Leaky Cauldron in a small, walled courtyard with a dustbin. Diagon Alley can be accessed by tapping the correct brick in the wall behind the Leaky Cauldron (from the trash can, three up and two across). The wall goes in a small hole first but forms a large archway. It can also be accessed by Floo powder and Apparition. There may be other entrances as well. Inside the Alley is an assortment of restaurants, shops, and other sites; some even have tables out front with coloured umbrellas. Particularly during the days or weeks before school starts at Hogwarts, the location is packed with witches and wizards, though shops are open year round as witches and wizards travel to the location for various goods. While the shops include many school supply locations, there are also many locations important to the wizarding world, such as Gringotts Wizarding Bank and Ollivanders. Diagon Alley is also the location of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. My Old Battalion Commander, Brigadier General ( Bg ) I have chosen to write about my old Battalion Commander, Brigadier General(BG) Peter Jones. The then Lieutenant Colonel(LTC) Jones oversaw my Infantry Battalion when I deployed to Ramadi, Iraq. He displayed numerous attributes that I model my military career from; he had an unwavering presence and strong intellect. His competence was also the highest that I have ever encountered in my military career; he was a lead from the front type of leader and strove to achieve nothing but success whilst keeping the soldiers in his command in the front of his mind. I have set my standards of leadership off BG Jones and that is why he is my personal leader of influence. I will outline some examples of him throughout this paper. BG Jones has an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There were numerous times were people would try and pressure him into a decision by noting there was no time for indecision. He could keep his calm, cool manner and think a situation through before reacting. I think that being able to think things through no matter the situation speaks volumes to what a leader needs to be. He also showed that not every situation needed to be thought out at that time. He was known to have thought of contingency plans prior to actions as to cut out reaction time needed due to him thinking it through before implementation and able to switch tactics on the fly. He showed this attribute multiple times but one example sticks out in my mind s eye. We had set up a forward position in Ramadi in what we thought was a hostile minimal area. Once we had set up our hasty area for command and control of an impending raid we came under small arms fire and a mortar attack. He had set up sectors of fire and counter fire areas before we had set up even though we were told numerous times that it was not needed. Due to his intellect, he had taken it into advisement but had planned on it not being as such and we were able to respond in kind and repel any such attack. I learned from him that no matter what happens you need to think things through and show a strong intellect so your soldiers are confident in your decisions and believe in you. BG Jones was a lead from the front style of leader. He would not sit idly by while his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to Bromund, the Brexit vote was a landmark in Britain s ability to regain its sovereignty and regulate its own domestic and foreign policies. Iain Murray began by explaining that the laws and regulations of the EU constitute a knot, one that the British must untangle itself from. According to Murray, Brexit could prove to be a disaster depending on how the British government chooses to move forward. He stated that for Brexit to be a success, the new British government must set out the vision of an open and welcoming UK, which means open trade and markets with the entire world. The British Government must invoke Article 50 of the Treaty of the European Union as a matter of adherence to international law, which will begin negotiations between the UK and the European Council regarding the withdrawal. Murray remarked that these negotiations will include the phasing out of the application of EU programs to the UK, the status of trade arrangements with third parties, and the status of UK and EU nationals resident in the other jurisdictions. Domestically, he suggested repealing undesirable EU laws and regulations, while keeping the regulations of value. Murray proposed a Royal Commission on Regulatory Reduction with the targets of reducing EU generated regulation by 25%, suspecting it could reduce regulations significantly within five years of Brexit. He signified that the UK cannot apply for membership to the EEA because it brings with it a significant ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Railroad Tunnel Research Paper Through the black train exhaust smoke pouring out of a large hole at the bottom of the Hoosac Mountain Range, the date of 1877 slowly appears at the top of the East Portal facade of the Hoosac Tunnel. The hard work and determination of engineers and workers resulted in the creation of an American symbol for technological advancement in tunneling. The railroad tunnel passes through the towns of North Adams and Florida, Massachusetts, stretching 4.75 miles. The construction began in 1854 but after suffering many setbacks, the tunnel was finished and finally approved for train service in 1875. Throughout the twenty five years, technology drastically improved from the very beginning to the end as engineers discovered more efficient ways to dig into the unpredictable mountain rock. This progression greatly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The technological progression is astounding since the tools, resources, and knowledge of mountain ground varied. In the early history of mining, it was first thoroughly developed in the Middle Ages within the states of Germany, then a Frenchman living in England invented a tunnel shield, and an American discovered the resourcefulness of using compressed air to prevent water from going into tunnels that were being dug underground. As mining and tunneling progressed, the industrial need for developing efficient tools and processes continued to grow as outdated processes continuously failed. The Hoosac Tunnel was no exception, but because of the magnitude of the project it generated a lot of interest which resulted in innovation and many experimental machines were created with a goal in mind, to remove a section of the work in one application by slicing ...one or more concentric grooves in the rock The inventions did not end here since the workers still lacked an efficient tool or machine to help penetrate the rock with the least amount of effort as ...
