The Key Beliefs Of A Religious And Secular World View Of...
Analyse the key beliefs of a religious and secular world view in relation to ultimate questions Taylor
Murfitt.
In this report I will be both contrasting and comparing the religious view of Catholicism and the
world view of Secular Humanism. The three questions I will be analysing through the religious
view of Catholicism and the world view Secular Humanism include:
Is there a higher being?
What is the purpose of my life?
Is there a right way to treat people?
These three questions are very much conflicting worldwide and many philosophical discussions
have been debated for years, however with many different views on the world, not everyone on
Earth has the same answer to these. This may be due to different upbringings through youth, values,
and overall beliefs, including Catholicism and Secular Humanism. Within this report there is no aim
of finding the truth or the actual answer, it is simply an analysis of people s personal beliefs to
these questions. I am going to include others opinions including my own interviewee s (would like
to be kept anonymous) thoughts and beliefs throughout the report, including my own, and opinions
I have researched to further analyse opinions of different groups that can support these worldviews.
A brief description of the religious view Catholicism: A denomination of Christianity. I have
decided to specifically narrow my world religion view to Catholicism, which is one of the main and
largely practiced branches of Christianity.

Summary Of Plutarch s Death Of Cleopatra
The extract from Plutarch s Life of Antony concentrates on Cleopatra s seduction of Antony. It
presents Cleopatra and her retinue as manipulative, Her [Cleopatra s] flatterers also worked hard
upon Antony at this time. They told him that he must be an insensitive brute with a heart of stone,
for here was a mistress who was utterly devoted to him alone . Plutarch: Makers of Rome also
references Cleopatra s wiles, Plato speaks of four kinds of flattery. but Cleopatra knew a thousand
(Scott Kilvert, 1965, p. 296).
Plutarch opines that Cleopatra s ignominy of being Antony s concubine is tolerable if, [She] could
see him and spend her life with him.... if he drove her away it would be the death of her .
Consequently, melted and unmanned Antony returns to Alexandria fearing Cleopatra s suicide. In
doing so, Antony neglects his duties at Parthia, [With] Cleopatra s alarms, and arts upon the
occasion. He puts off his Median expedition (Langhorne et al., 1810, P. 58). Portraying Cleopatra as
a femme fatale, Plutarch sees the relationship reducing Antony to a fallen hero dishonouring Rome.

Analysis Of This Is A White Man s Government ``
The Civil War, in term of the modern mind, was a war that divided the nation, yet was able to
free the slaves. The idea that such a bloody war was able to liberate a group of oppressed was
enough to justify the deaths of many Americans; yet when analyzing the lives of these so called
freed people it becomes apparent that they were not freed. The ideology of the Lost Cause
allowed for the creation of resentment towards blacks. From this hate an unholy trinity of white
men with different backgrounds came united and threated to destroy the idea of a democratic
America. Thomas Nast s satirical drawing, titled This is a White Man s Government displays the
possible destruction of America by this unholy trinity in an effort to maintain the pre Civil War
hierarchy. The focal point of the published image is the three piled hands of the men, representing
the unity that they formed in order to maintain control over a democratic America. When the
viewer looks at the sketch, their eyes focus directly onto the pile of hands in the center. This
gesture assures the audience of a commitment and pact established by these men. Nast is able to
address the unspoken agreement between these men with the placement of their feet. Their feet
give a name to their agreement as they hold hands as they stomp on a black war veteran. The
placement of legs in the drawing, This is a White Man s Government , continues to imply that the
forces of the trinity are meant to continue the oppression of

The Causes Of President Herbert Hoover And The Great...
The reasoning behind what actually caused the great depression is contentious. Most Americans
will cite the stock market crash of 1929 caused the Great Depression. On the other hand, if one
were to ask an economists, many opinions and facts will be brought to light. US policy is large
factor when discussing the causations.
Herbert Hoover, the 31st President of the United States of America (1929 1933) had a main role in
changing US policy. President Hoover, was born in 1874, grew up in the state of Oregon and
graduated as a mining engineer from Stanford. He spent most of his life before Presidency
abroad. Hoover was present, before during and after the Boxer Rebellion in China. He worked to
feed Belgium s during their German occupied years of World War I. Then Hoover moved onto
provide relief work in Russia until the United States entered the war. President Wilson appointed
him head of Food Administration, then the American Relief Administration. In 1920 he began to
serve as the Commerce Secretary under President Harding and the continued with President
Coolidge. When he became the Republican Presidential Nominee in 1928 Herbert Hoover stated,
We in America today are nearer to the final triumph over poverty than ever before in the history of
any land . A great statement, however months later the stock market crashed and the United States
went into the Great Depression, or what is considered a lost decade.
President Hoover s policies were learned from World War I s

Persuasive Essay On Racism In Sports
Racism is prevalent in today s society and is exposed in the sports industry as well. Various
athletes in different sports field experience racism and face it everyday. Social media is a big
platform for people to criticize athletes for their failures and success. On the other hand more times
than not, racismcan be found within the head of organizations of major sports, most noticeably
football. The NFL has condoned an abundance of racist actions towards players of Hispanic and
African American descent; therefore, the NFL should stop these problems by supporting athletes
that take a stand, holding the NFL owners accountable for their actions, and finally, not
stereotyping young black athletes into a position based off of racial factors. An organization like
the NFL needs to support their athletes when they decide to exercise their 1st amendment rights.
For example, a current event that has ravished the mainstream media would be over the
controversy with Colin Kaepernick. There are 64 quarterbacks total in the NFL at the time,
Kaepernick not being one of them. At the end of the season Kaepernick had a passer rating of 90.7
(ESPN, 2016) . That was better than ten starting quarterbacks in the league at that time. Also, to
add to his resume he only threw four interceptions during the season. His stats prove that he s a
proven NFL starter and his trip to the Superbowl in 2013 are examples of why he should be added
to any NFL roster. Why isn t he on a roster? It s primarily

The Fellowship Of The Ring
In the Fellowship of the Ring written by J.R.R. Tolkien and it reveals a new world of elves,
magic, men, dwarves, hobbits, and other unworldly creatures. Middle Earth is the name of the
lands every creature inhabits, and like our world, it is divided up and has different realms of
elves, dwarves, men and so forth. Much to my surprise I enjoyed the book and found it was very
intriguing. While I was reading further into the book I became more drawn into the plot and
main characters. The Fellowship of the Ring is part of a trilogy and I would enjoy reading the
other two books in the series. The story commences with a narrative speech spoken by Bilbo
Baggins, a hobbit of the Shire, and gives the reader the background of Middle Earth. Gandalfthe
Grey is in the Shire and decides to visit Bilbo while he is getting ready for his 111th birthday,
which commences the same night. During the birthday party Bilbo decides to play a little trick on
his guests with his special ring and disappears before their very eyes as he slips on his ring. Bilbo
runs to his home and packs up his belongings and departs for a journey, while he s packing Gandalf
arrives to speak to Bilbo. Before Bilbo leaves the Shire, he leaves the ring and everyone of his
belongings to Frodo. Frodo arrives back to Bilbo s home and sees Bilbo has left, and discovers
Bilbo has left the ring for him. As he examines the ring Gandalf enters the room and speaks to

Benefits Of The Low Back Pain Condition
The low back pain condition is becoming more frequent in industrialized countries. The treatment
of this condition is effective using peripherally acting NSAIDs justly in a short term relief or in
acute low back pain.1 At the same time, the use of antidepressants or other drugs such as tramadol
have shown efficacy, where tramadol is centrally acting analgesicby inhibiting serotonin and
noradrenaline reuptake, and activating nonselective m opioid receptors via its active metabolite. 1
Moreover, acetaminophen is considered a first line treatment for chronic painand commonly used
among several years, which effectiveness is due to its analgesic and antipyretic properties. 1
However, acetaminophen may present some hepatotoxic effects when misused.1 Therefore, the
concomitant use of both therapies would bring efficacy with a multiple analgesic mechanism of
action, since this therapy also shown a synergistic effect in animal models. 1
According to Lee (2013), it would be more effective an extended release release tramadol HCl 75
mg/acetaminophen 650 mg fixed combination tablets (TA ER) formulation to achieve pain relief
effects in a sustained analgesic activity over time. 1
Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of TA ER, in a Phase
III clinical trial, for the treatment of moderate to severe chronic low back pain insufficiently
controlled by previous NSAIDs or cyclooxygenase 2 (COX 2) selective inhibitors. Hence, they
conducted the study in

Analysis Of I Am Cuba And The Rehabilitation Of...
Bridget Hockaday

Cultures Contexts: Latin America

Revolution and Prostitution I am Cuba and The Rehabilitation of Prostitutes present the figure of
the prostitute as a representation of Cuba s degraded condition in relation to the United States. The
Revolution was interested in the rehabilitation of prostitutes as a metaphor for the rehabilitation of
Cuba. I Am Cuba explains the need for revolution in Cuba. The film captures the political
oppression and the large disparity in wealth and power experienced by the people under the
dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista prior to the Revolution. In one scene, it portrays the foreign
contribution to the prostitution and poverty epidemic in Havana. The American tourists degrade
and dehumanize the prostitutes; the men consider the prostitutes to be something on the side after
their drink orders, and they refer to them as tasty morsel and dish. However, one of the American
tourists announces that [he d] like to see where these women live, and a prostitute named Maria
reluctantly agrees to take the man to see her home. Here, the man encounters her poor and dismal
living conditions. Her home is merely a shack. The mistreatment and abuse by American tourists on
the Cuban people created lives consumed by suffering and destitution. The Rehabilitation of
Prostitutes provides a moral perception of the efforts made by the Revolution to decrease
prostitution. According to The

Czech Republic And The Republic
The Czech Republic is located nearly in the center of Europe and was recently known as
Czechoslovakia. The Czech Republic is bordered by Slovakia, Germany, Poland, and Austria. The
Czech Republic was a part of Czechoslovakia until 1993 when it split into both the Czech Republic
and Slovakia. With it being a fairly new country, one would assume that it is struggling to catch up
to society economically, this is simply untrue, because the Czech Republicis one of the most
economically stable countries in Europe. The Czech Republic has been a member of the European
Unionsince it joined in 2004. The Czech Republic is one of the most economically profitable
countries inside the European Union. The Czech Republic is a smaller country, only being
around 30,450 square miles big, a little less than half the size of New York state and roughly 22
times smaller than the state of Alaska. Although it is small, its location is very beneficial when
it comes to importing and exporting. All of the bordering countries of the Czech Republic are
members of the European Union, so they all share lower taxes on imports and exports as well as
more economic freedom when trading amongst each other. Because of this, the barriers of entry to
the Czech Republic are almost nonexistent. The recent history of the Czech Republic has been
somewhat small being that it only became a country 22 years ago. According to Carter et al, the

Women s Job Market And Qualifying For Senior Positions Essay
With more and more women participating in the job market and qualifying for senior positions,
gender diversity in senior and executive positions is of significance to the development of a
company (Johns,2013). Research studies show that companies with more females in top positions
perform better than those with fewer or no women. However, the phenomenon that women are
underrepresented exists globally, state Terjesen and Singh (2008). Although the status of the
women s workforce in senior occupations in the world in the last few decades has been improved
in many countries and regions(Kemp Madsen Davis,2015), women still remain outsiders in senior
positions in some counties. According to the data provided by Deloitte (2015), women in India
occupy fewer than 10% of seats on boards and fewer than 5% of board chairs while Norway has
legislated that 40% of the boardroom of public companies must be women, which has been
achieved within a few years. The initial progress of Norway for women impressed many western
countries and these countries tried to follow the same suit(Lang,2010). In political areas, the
percent of national parliament seats held by women of India is only 11.97% and is 7.33% lower
than femalerepresentation in governments around the world. However, Norwegian women s
participation in government takes up 39.64%. Many factors may have an impact on this case. This
essay, therefore chooses the two countries which have huge differences and combines different

Why The Church Is A Complex Concept Of Grasp
There are many reasons why the church is one, but to actually be one is a complex concept to
grasp. To be one means to be united, and unity is a powerful bond held together for a common
purpose. For example, through the Trinity, God is one in the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Likewise, all the aspects of the church is one just like the relationship of the Trinity. However, the
Trinity is also one of the primary ways the church is united. The Trinity is the leader in making the
church one. As Lumen Gentium claims, the universal church is seen to be a people made one by
the unity of the Father, the Son, and the holy Spirit, (Lumen Gentium, 4). Yet, each part of the
Trinity plays a specific role in the unity. First, God the Father calls us to be a part of His church.
All the just from the time of Adam, from Abel, the just one, to the last of the elect will be gathered
together with the Father in the universal church, (Lumen Gentium, 2). God the Father allows the
entire church to have a relationship with Him, and brings people together through his love. In
addition, The Father sent His Son to bring the kingdom of God to Earth. The Church s foundation
is the Son of God. Lumen Gentium goes on to say, All are called to this union with Christ, who is
the light of the world, from whom we come, through whom we live, and towards whom we direct
our lives, (Lumen Gentium, 3). Therefore as the church, unity is formed by following and devoting
our lives to JesusChrist, and it

The Importance Of Biodiversity
The 3.7 billion years of the earth s biological history can be summarized as follows: Organisms
convert energy into food, chemical elements perform their cycles, and species perform different
biological functions (niches) evolving in response to changes according to conditions
environmental impacts. This implies that today, every specieson the planet has gone through an
evolutionary process and that each individual performs their role in the ecosystem. Like the many
species in the world, we human beings (thanks to certain characteristics that allow us to adapt and
modify the environment) have been able to increase our chances of survival on earth and this has
led us to a gigantic population and economic growth, which we call Development. However, such a
development makes the degradation of natural resources increasingly fast, making it imperative and
necessary to establish conservation oriented guidelines, since biodiversityis of the utmost
importance for the functioning of the ecosystem.
BIODIVERSITY
Biodiversity or biological diversity is a term used very well to describe the richness and variety
of all living things in the world; from plants and animals to microorganisms and beings a
thousand times more complex. Thus, on biological diversity we can say that it is present in the
most varied places, from the cold glaciers of the Arctic to the volcanic regions of Chile. In Brazil,
this fact is not different, and this is the country that holds about 20% of the world s

The Pros And Cons Of ISIS
During the year 2014, ISIS was created and ever since their creation they have caused terror like

people to join and help their cause . Their recruitment numbers have been increasing as well, due
to their spreading influence A 20 year old Ohio man was arrested Monday on suspicion of trying

Critics have also argued that ISIS is a dying down, because the Iraqi military is now fighting
them and reducing their strength as well. While in Syria, the Russians have sent their air force
to unrelentingly bomb them, while government troops from the Syrian government move into
eliminate the group. As the Russian air force had been deployed there has been progress,
however the Russians have been accused of targeting civilians and civilian property, such as
schools and hospitals. This is evident is Aleppo as hospital staff have claimed that Russian jets
that have flown over hospitals have dropped their bomb loads on them, causing massive
destruction and killing staff and patients alike Between Thursday and Saturday, the regime or its
Russian ally bombed four hospitals, rebel held Aleppo s only blood bank and a forensic
pathology lab, nearly all in the Al Sha ar neighborhood, one of the biggest and poorest parts of
east Aleppo. (Gutman 4). Many officials have said that civilian casualties have increased when
the Russians had intervened in Syria, thus causing the population to flee and lose faith in the
Russians as they continue bombing ISIS and other targets, such as the many Syrian rebel
factions in the Civil War Apart from the nine dead, eight missing and dozens injured, this strike
(like several others) has left the local population without access to vital medical services.
According to MSF, the local population of 40,000 people can now be added to the long list of
civilians without access to medical services in [the] active zone of conflict that is Syria. (Sacklen

Over the years of cinema history, we ve heard plenty lines that make our skin crawl with bone
chilling fear, but for me, none quite did it like this line from Captain Quint, in Jaws.
You know the thing about a shark, he s got... lifeless eyes, black eyes, like a doll s eye. When he
comes at ya, doesn t seem to be livin . Until he bites ya and those black eyes roll over white. And
then, ah then you hear that terrible high pitch screamin and the ocean turns red and spite of all
the poundin and the hollerin they all come in and rip you to pieces. Y know by the end of that
first dawn, lost a hundred men! I don t know how many sharks, maybe a thousand! I don t know
how many men, they averaged six an hour. This quote is burned into my mind forever. I was
maybe eleven when I first watched Jaws, and Captain Quints long monologue about his
experience in the waters of the Atlantic, dumped into the sea by a shipwrecked USS. Indianapolis
has always instilled fear and awe in me. Awe and fear towards sharks. So what s it called when
something instills a feeling of awe in a person? Well, it means that that thing is awesome. So that

The Election Of Andrew Jackson
With the election of Andrew Jackson, for the first time in American history, a common man built
his way up to earn the title of President of the United States. Jackson being of low birth had
particular significance because he went from rags to riches. During his presidency his affinity for
the common people did not change, thus Jackson tended to favor the rights of the common people
over what was constitutionally correct. Andrew Jacksonfrom such actions can be called the father
of American democracy because he set the precedent that later presidents followed: where he
campaigned and reached out to the people and set the notion that presidential policies ruled over
Congress because the president was elected by the people. Although, most would argue against
Jackson and his beliefs as president, it is evident that he always put the common people before
himself as can be seen in his presidential runs, the spoils system, the vetoing of the second
National Bank and the Indian Removal Act. The election process prior to 1824 focused more on
the Legislature over the people. It wasn t until 1824, when Jackson ran for president, that the
people had more of a say. In Methods of Electing Presidential Electors: 1816 to 1836 (Doc. 1), it
is to be noted that voting power is the same between the people and the legislature, however
Andrew Jackson s loss was the direct result of the Corrupt Bargain for which Jackson suspected
Henry Clay did. This was the event in which Clay became

with hope in mind that all races within South Africa can now come together and live amongst each

The Personification of For all vices, for all victims :
In her poem, For all voices, for all victims, Antjie Krog makes use of the metaphors in lines four
through eleven to bring life to the redeemed South Africa in a post apartheid time: it breathes
becalmed after being wounded in its wondrous throat
in the cradle of my skull it sings, it ignites my tongue, my inner ear, the cavity of heart shudders
toward the outline new in soft intimate clicks and gutturals
The idea of the line, it breathed becalmed, (Krog, in Carolin, 2014: l. 4) Antjie Krog creates a
sense of relief with, as the feeling of calming is one felt only by humans, she makes use of the
comparison to personify South Africa. The image created by a calming country can only take
place if to one that has previously been harmed, hence the line, after being wounded, which further
explains the image that South Africa is calmed after the severity of the wound which was caused
by the apartheid era. The following lines, it sings, it ignites/ my tongue, my inner ear, the cavity of
heart/ shudders towards the outline/ new in soft intimate clicks and gutturals, (Krog, in Carolin,

Political Geography And Corporate Political Strategy

corporate lobbying, who uses corporate lobbying and the implication of corporate lobbying based
on the constant changes in the political map(mid term and presidential elections). Political
geographyand corporate political strategy also examines the relationship between political
geography and corporate political strategy as measured by lobbyingexpenditures . M. Antia, I. Kim
and C. Pantzalis found that firms tend to increase lobbying expenditures when a shift in the
political map puts them further away from the president, in other terms, companies tend to increase
lobbying intensity when they lose access to political power. They also found that the primary goal
of lobbying is to build political capital to take advantage of short term opportunities. And finally,
they identified that when their ties to the center of political power diminish, increasing lobbying
intensity can increase valuation. This article discusses why firms engaged in corporate lobbying
and how firms engaged in corporate lobbying tend to out perform non lobbying firms.

weird route of doing so. He picks Jeannette up and throws her in the deep part of the water and
says, Sink or swim! (pg. 66) The way Erma raised Rex is also a big factor in why he isn t very

The Mechanisms Of The Criminal Justice System
CRJ Writing Assignment #1 The mechanisms of the criminal justice system in America function
as more than the instruments for determining guilt in a criminal court case. Through the creation
and enforcement of laws, it is a reflection of our society s morals and values. It is our form of
social control. As set out in our text, in 1964 two models emerged in an article written by Herbert
Packer, Two Models of the Criminal Process. Professor Packer proposed that there are two
fundamental criminal justicemodels: the crimecontrol model and the due process model. Decision
making within the criminal justice system is based on these two philosophical models.
Historically, emphasis for one model over the other has shifted back and forth throughout the
evolution of American culture. The crime control model is oriented toward law and order, the
protection of society over the rights of individual defendants; while the due process model is
attentive to the legal procedures and constitutional rights of the accused. This back and forth
emphasis with either the conservative model of crime control vs. the liberal model favoring due
process is known as how the pendulum swings. If I had to select one, I would choose the crime
control model. Primarily because this is the most efficient and money saving to all involved. Like
an assembly line, the crime control model emphasizes the quick and effective administration of
justice through set procedures and direct handling of cases from

Mpemba Effect Essay
The Mpemba Effect is the observation that warm water freezes quicker than cold water in certain
circumstances. The warm water seems counterintuitive but ultimately catalyzes the freezing
process. The warm water represents disobedience and the freezing process represents social
progress. Disobedience has a negative connotation, which contradicts the idea of positive
progression but in many cases, can actually accelerate it. Many commonly misinterpret
disobedience as violence, when in actuality, some of the most powerful reformers in history have
emphasized nonviolence. Rosa Parks, the Greensboro Sit ins, and the Birmingham Campaign all

On February 1, 1960 four African American freshmen attending North Carolina Agricultural and
Technical State University walked into a Woolworths department store. After purchasing
toothpaste and other items from a desegregated register, the men, later referred to as the
Greensboro Four, continued on to the lunch counter. In accordance to the stores policy, a counter
designated as whites only could deny service to any and all African Americans. Therefore, the
employee denied the men the coffee that had asked for. The four students simultaneously
protested Woolworth s refusal of service by occupying the seats until the store closed that day.
This effort continued in subsequent days, weeks, and months while growing in size, publicity,
and notoriety. Over the course of the protest, Woolworth lost over $200,000 in sales, which is
equivalent to $1.6 million in today s economy. The act of defiance led by those four men
eventually led to Woolworth s repealing their segregation policy. On a bigger scale, the
Greensboro sit in sparked a national trend of organized protests. This protest reminded me of my

The Problem Of Illegal Immigrants
Donald Trump wrongly says the number of illegal immigrants is 30 million or higher Donald
Trump made several claims recently that the population of illegal immigrants in the U.S. has risen
to thirty million or more. He claimed that the government had no grasp on the population of
illegal immigrants, and that he s seen those estimates in several papers and other sources. The
Department of Homeland Security disagreed, saying that their calculations of illegal immigrants
took a lot of factors into account. Even with a plus or minus one million margin, there was no
way possible for the number of illegal immigrants to have tripled without them knowing. Several
other major research organizations agreed, saying they also came up with estimates very close to
the eleven million estimate given. No one is really sure where exactly Trump got these outrageous
and wildly inaccurate claims, but they are almost certain that he is incorrect. I think Trump will
always be a racist figurehead, constantly spewing misinformation because he knows the general
public will eat it up. He spent some time in probably what is mostly a white supremacist Texas
town, and suddenly came back with unfounded overestimates of the population of illegal
immigrants. This does not surprise me, nor should it surprise anyone else.

Are People Inherently Good Or Evil
The concept of whether or not humans are inherently good or evil is as complex and just as
regularly debated by philosophers as to whether or not there is an afterlife. Now if we
temporarily ignore the grey scale that is moral and immoral and the fluctuations it may have based
on individual morals and instead use a generalisation of what is good and bad, (this consisting of
the obvious murder, rape etc) we can freely debate if human nature is inherently good or evil. There
are some philosophers like Clancy Martin who argue that people are mostly good but there are
also others like Alan Strudler who are more pessimistic and comeback with The idea that people

This compelling piece of literature explores the idea of two worlds; the world of light and the
world of darkness. The world of light is described by Sinclair as The parental home...its name
was Mother and father, it was love and strictness, education and example. What belonged to this
world was gently shining radiance, clarity, and cleanliness; quiet friendly conversation; washed
hands, clean clothes, good behaviour. (Hesse 1919, p.3) To be direct this parental world
consisted of his home and the church; all that was seen as good, pure and moral. While the other
world was the opposite and everything outside the home on the streets and the public schools.
Sinclair firsts extends his hand to the other world when he lies about stealing apples in order to
impress a young boy named Kromer which causes Sinclair to torment himself and thus allows
Kromer to do the same when he blackmails him. This is where Sinclair meets his first mentor,
Max Demian. This mentor taught Sinclair many wonders and causes him to go into a bout of self
discovery. After years of switching between the two worlds, he discovers a godnamed Abraxas.
Damian had once discussed with Sinclair the God Jehovah and how everything that is pure and
sacred is given to him while everything that is sinful is seen as the devils. He explains that he
believes both worlds should be worshipped as a whole and you must either find a god that is
both the Father and the devil or have two gods. This is why the god Abraxas intrigues Sinclair to
such a degree as he is the god that reigns over both heavenly and demonic; the combination of the
two worlds. This ancient Greek and Egyptian deity shows Sinclair and the reader that a person
should not be so concerned and concentrated on immoral

Mithraism Essay
Mithraism
Mithraism is the ancient Roman mystery cult of the god Mithras. Roman worship of Mithras began
sometime during the early Roman empire, perhaps during the late first century of the Common Era
(hereafter CE), and flourished from the second through the fourth centuries CE. While it is fairly
certain that Romans encountered worship of the deity Mithras as part of Zoroastrianism in the
eastern provinces of the empire, particularly in Asia Minor (now modern Turkey), the exact origins
of cult practices in the Roman cult of Mithras remain controversial (see below). The evidence for
this cult is mostly archaeological, consisting of the remains of mithraic temples, dedicatory
inscriptions, and iconographic representations of the god and ... Show more content on

The theory that Roman Mithraism had its roots in Zoroastrianism was first put forward by Franz
Cumont, a Belgian scholar, in his two volume publication Textes et monuments figur eacutes
relatifs aux myst egraveres de Mithra in 1896 and 1899. Cumont compiled a catalogue of every
known mithraic temple, monument, inscription, and literary passage relating to Mithras and
claimed on the basis of his study of this body of evidence that Roman Mithras was, ultimately,
Zoroastrian Mithra. Cumont argued by extension that if Roman Mithras had Iranian roots, the cult
of Mithraism must have originated in the eastern provinces of the Roman empire and spread
westward with legionaries in the Roman army, merchants from eastern provinces (often lumped
under the broad misnomer Syrians ), freedmen in the imperial bureaucracy, and slaves.
Cumont himself recognized possible flaws in his theory. The most obvious is that there is little
evidence for a Zoroastrian cult of Mithra (Cumont 1956), and certainly none that suggests that
Zoroastrian worship of Mithra used the liturgy or the well devoloped iconography found in the
Roman cult of Mithras. Moreover, few monuments from the Roman cult have been recovered from
the very provinces which are thought to have inspired worship of Mithras (namely the provinces of
Asia Minor). Finally, Cumont was aware that the earliest datable evidence for the cult of Mithras
came from the military garrison at Carnuntum in the province of Upper Pannonia on the

(is this necessary?): The results from the McEachan et al. study indicate that the standard TPB

How Does The Endocrine System Maintain Homeostasis

The Endocrine System is important because it maintains homeostasis. It secretes hormones into the

Criminal Appeal Process
Federal Criminal Appeal Process as a Social Policy
The losing party in a judgment by a federal district court, in general has a right to appeal the
judgment to the next highest court, which is usually the United States Circuit Court of Appeals. In
a federal criminal case, the government may not appeal a not guilty verdict, though they may appeal
the sentence imposed on a criminal convict. In a federal criminal case, the defendant may appeal
their conviction and the sentence.

Secondly, as stated above, the burden of proof is on the appellant to prove that an error occurred
and that the error was substantial. Errors that do not impinge on the substantial rights of the
appellant are disregarded as harmless error. Number of Appeals Overview
As a general rule, the final judgment of a lower district may only be appealed once to the next
higher court. Therefore, the total number of appeals is dependent upon the total number of superior
courts to the lower district court, which rendered the judgment. The first appeal is the appeal as of
right (Levenson, 2017). The appeal as of right entitles the appellant to the assistance of counsel
(Levenson, 2017).
Steps in Filing a Timely Appeal: File the Notice of Appeal
Filing an appeal is ordinarily a two step process: firstly, file the notice of appeal. The notice of
appeal is filed with the lower district court, which simply notifies the lower district court that the
defendant is appealing the case. The United States Circuit Court of Appeals may not consider an
appeal, if the lower district court has not received timely notice of appeal. In criminal appeals,
notice of appeal must be filed within ten days from the date the lower district court s judgment if
filed (Levenson, 2017).
Secondly, file the appellate brief with the United States Circuit Court of Appeals. As stated above,

Literature Review Although the researchers reviewed the various literature to develop practice
guidelines, draw conclusions, create the research question, develop a study design, and find ways to
control bias. In fact, it presented key terms, such as hermeneutics, phenomenology, and interview
methods (Dainty et al., 2014). Descriptive style helps to bracket any preconceptions, since
hermeneutic methods acknowledge that an experience could influence its interpretation. The
hermeneutic phenomenological design linked to the study question, which based on the experience
of multiple realities (Dainty et al., 2014). Overall, the literature reviews adequately linked the
interview question and design through interpretative phenomenology theory. Research Design The
naturalistic design focuses on the reality that is not fixed, it lies in human minds; thus, the least
distance between researchers and participants can maximize understanding. The researchers and
participants actively involved in the conversation (Loiselle et al., 2011). The study used a specific
hermeneutic phenomenological design to gain a deeper understanding of the nature of the research

Food prices started soaring because of bad harvests which brought hunger to many of the poor

well. Children in most cases will have to live with it for the rest of their lifes (same with mental

By the fourth century AD Japan was ruled by an enemy civilization, and they still rule Japan
today. In 1185 the Minamoto clan lead by Yoritomo Minamoto defeated their enemy the Taira
clan. In 1192 the imperial court granted Yoritomo the spot as general, and gave him permission
to start a government. After the Eastern Europe, the army of Kublai Khan attacked Japan in
1274. The Japanese always fought on foot. Women were allowed to be in the military. Uniforms
for the Samurai were made out of leather, and their weapons were called katana and wakizashi.
They were always worn together, and they helped them in battle. They were used to kill
opponents from farther away and shorter away by cutting their opponents. The katana was the
long sword, and the wakizashi was the shorter sword. If the Samurai won a war they would earn a
big piece of land for them and their family. Japan s army changed from having one hundred men to

Research Paper On Hezbollah
The Islamic terrorist group that I have selected for this discussion is Hezbollah. The reason is that
it is one of the best funded, organized and lethal terrorists groups in the world. They have attacked
several American facilities in the Middle East, embassies, strategic military points, etc. They have
been funded by the government of Iranbut they are also supported by other Islamic groups and
nations; Hamas, one of the most important political parties in Palestine also supports Hezbollah and
considers it its military arm. To the American military bases that surround Iran and that are ready to
defend the American interests in the region, Hezbollah represents one of the biggest concerns
(Lahoud, 2010). Iran already has a considerable military

agreements between Chinese and Australian companies were recorded, of this one third was
recorded to be in commercial real estate. As mining slows Chinese investors have begun to turn to
agricultural goods, commercial real estate, other infrastructure projects and health care. Without this
money being supplied into these areas, Australian businesses would have less opportunities to grow

Do You Want To Achieve Your Goals
Chapter 2:
Do you want to Achieve Your Goals?
Creating your mindset to succeed
Everyone in this world has its own goal. Whether to win that football game on Saturday night,
claim the employee of the year award of your company or to be able to spend a nice and relaxing
vacation at the Maldives.
Creating your mindset to succeed is the very first step when achieving your goal. This is where
it will all start. This is the part where you can create your plans and how you can make it happen.
This is where you will think of strategies on how you can overcome the challenges that may keep
you from achieving your goals. This is going to be the blueprint of your goal.
You would always hear people saying It s only in the mind . Yes it is. Most of the time, successful
people in the world start with a goal; they visualize their plan and make it happen. Why? Because
no goal or dream just appear from thin air. Planning and setting always comes first. ... Show more

much you want it. It will depend on how hungry you are to succeed on this specific goal. More
often than not, the success of your goal depends on how you think. You have to be passionate on
this goal. You should ask yourself, what are you passionate about? What is your purpose in life?
When you are able to answer those two questions, you will realize that this goal that you have set
up for yourself to succeed is really for you. You ll realize that there will be no what ifs and you will

San Bernardino Terrorist Attacks Case
Apple vs the Government agency (FBI) in the San Bernardino Terrorist attacks case. Ethics and
Morality are defined as the distinction of right and wrong. On the other hand morals are also
largely based on the social values of good and bad. However, people tend to define them as the
standards and customs that guide the way of life towards good. In most cases of ethics and
morality they are referring to acts of both good and bad deeds. Nonetheless, in a recent case with
the FBI vs. the Government against Apple Inc. Company arose one of the key moral issues in the
business world. Apple refused to offer a backdoor to one of the iPhones considered to be of the
terrorists. The ethical issue involved two genuine values; privacyand security.... Show more content

Apple mentioned also in their letter to their customers that they were against terrorism. They
continued to state that as a company they did everything in their power to help the FBI in
investigating this case and catch these criminals. However, Apple did not want to risk its
customer s privacy because it was found that most apple product users store data such as private
conversations, photos, music, notes, calendars and contacts, financial information and health
data in their devices. Since Apple operates their company based on certain values one of them
being safeguarding their customer s data, this prompted decision to deny the FBI the software
or backdoor that would ve risked the privacy of millions of iPhone users. The FBI however is
willing to do just about anything to solve a case, one that especially involves serious criminals
investigates. Keeping this in mind you can see why the FBI refused to think morally in favor of
Apple and how this backdoor software would ve tarnished the reputation and decreased business
for this company. However it is concluded both of these parties did what was ethically right for
their independent situations, but as you can see what is ethically right for one situation is not
necessarily right for another

Antibiotics Essay
Antibiotics have played a major role in our society thanks to Sir
Alexander Fleming s careful observations in 1928. Without it, many lives would be in danger due
to infectious diseases.
Antibiotics are chemical substances produced by various species of microorganisms and other
living systems that are capable in small concentrations of inhibiting the growth of or killing bacteria
and other microorganisms. These organisms can be bacteria, viruses, fungi, or animals called
protozoa. A particular group of these agents is made up of drugs called antibiotics, from the Greek
word anti ( against ) and bios
( life ). Some antibiotics are produced from living organisms such as bacteria, fungi, and molds.

This assures that the bacteria are either killed or reduced enough in numbers so that the body can
repel them. When too little antibiotic is taken, bacteria can often develop methods to protect
themselves against it . The next time the antibiotic is needed against these bacteria, it will not be
effective.
Taking in Antibiotics.
To work against infecting organisms, an antibiotic can be applied externally, such as to a cut on the
skin s surface, or internally, reaching the bloodstream within the body. Antibiotics are made in
several forms and given in different ways.
Topical. Topical application means to a local area such as on the skin, in the eyes, or on the
mucous membrane. Antibiotics for topical use are available in the form of powders, ointments, or
creams.
Oral. Tablets, liquids, and capsules are swallowed. The antibiotic is released in the small intestine
to be absorbed into the bloodstream.
Troches, or lozenges, are allowed to dissolve in the mouth, where the antibiotic is absorbed through
the mucous membrane.
Parenteral. Applications outside the intestine are called parenteral.
One form is an injection, which can be subcutaneous (under the skin), intramuscular (into a muscle),
or intravenous (into a vein). Parenteral administration of an antibiotic is used when a physician
requires a strong, quick concentration of the antibiotic in the bloodstream.

The Virtual Rat Pro Version 3.0 Program By Wadsworth...
Participants These three experiments aim to explore the various aspects associated with extinction
procedures. To facilitate these experiments, we used the Sniffy the virtual rat Pro Version 3.0
program by Wadsworth Cengage Learning. This program attempts to accurately simulate some of
the psychological processes and behavioral phenomena found in rats. In this program, all of the
subjects are always starved for food, regardless of how much it has eaten. This simplifies the
process of operant conditioningby reducing the amount of time required to simply wait for the
virtual rat to be hungry again.
For the following experiments, 22 virtual rat subjects, each supervised by its own experimenter,
were subjected to operant conditioning techniques, followed by extinction, secondary
reinforcement and spontaneous recovery. Since the same program was used for each of the 22
subjects, all the virtual rats can be considered to be identical to one another. Additionally, as a
result of the food deprivation programming, all virtual rats are ready for the presentation of food as
a reinforcer. Although each experiment consisted of 22 rats, the rats in experiment three are the
same rats that were used in experiment one. Therefore, the total number of subjects is 44 instead of
66 because the same virtual rat subjects are used in two of the three experiments. In order to collect
and monitor the relevant data, the program has various windows that display important information.

What Was The Triple Alliance In 1914
It is human nature for people to look back at past events in retrospection, wondering if the
outcome would have changed if a decision was made differently. World War I, or the war to end
all wars, began in the summer of 1914, but it was the events leading up to it, such as the creation
of alliances, which decided the fate of the war. Alliances are formal military or political agreements
between countries, which state that the will back the other country in the event of an attack, either
financially or through declaring war. Mamy alliances were made prior to the start of World War I
,
and as a result, all European countries, including central powers, were conjoined. These alliance

The Triple Alliance was a confidential alliance, which would militarily back the other country in
the event of a conflict. Germany was the strongest power in the alliance, with a growing
military, and a strong economy 1. Italy was the weakest country of the alliance due to the fact
that it had a very weak army and navy, which had little funding, but it had a geographical
advantage compared to Austria and Germany, so it served as a military base 2. Austria Hungary
benefited from the alliance because it protected them from Russia, who had conflicts with Austria
in the Balkans and Bosnia 3. Another alliance which played a prominent role in World War I, was
the Triple Entente, which consisted of Russia, France, and Great Britain. The Triple Entente was
created in 1907, which like the Triple Alliance, protect each other from attacks from a foreign
country. The Triple Entente was a very powerful alliance due to the fact that Britain had the
strongest, most technologically advanced navy, while France had a flourishing economy 4. The
Triple Entente also had a geographical advantage over the Triple Alliance, since it had the ability to
attack the Triple Alliance on either side. Tom

Analysis Of Daddy By Sylvia Plath
Daddy by Sylvia Plath is a poem that explores the persona of a 40 year old woman whose father
died when she was 10. Despite the fact that Plath denied that it was in anyway autobiographical, the
reader cannot fail to notice the similarities between the life of the persona and Plath. Throughout
the poem we are faced which a strain of imagery; imagery which shows the personas extreme anger
through connotations to being in a concentration camp:
Chuffing me off like a Jew. A Jew to Dachau, Auschwitz, Belsen
Here we see that the speaker feels persecuted by the memory of her father just as the Jews were
persecuted under the Nazi state. The connotations of chuffing conveys that she feels that when her
father died he almost gave her no time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The persona feels trapped in the moment of her father s death, and she feels mentally and physically
unable to move on and grow despite the death occurring 30 years ago:
Black shoe in which I have lived like a foot
The metaphor created here is representative of the pain her father causes for her. The
implications of this have caused her to be crushed, tortured and twisted, as she has been held
captive by the death for since she was 10 years old; this prohibiting her from developing into an
adult. She refers to her father has black shoe which conveys through the word choice of black that
he is evil, but it also has connotations to death. The reader is also shocked to see that she feels her
father has fed off her existence since his death:
For thirty years, poor and white
The contrast between the speaker being white and her father being black suggest that she see s
herself as the polar opposite of him. It also suggests that she has been drained of all life, this is the
introduction to the vampire imagery we see elsewhere in the poem. This imagery makes clear that
her father haunts her with her statements like bit my pretty red heart which has connotations to her
innocence being lost due to his death this is conveyed through the word choice of red which
suggests youthfulness. These lines emit her thought of being fuelled by hatred of her father, thus
she has an intense anger for him and the suffering he

Shakespeare s Use Of Metatheatre In Hamlet
Metatheatricality in William Shakespeare s Hamlet
There play within a play is a dramatic device used by Shakespeare to explore the human psyche s
ability to manoeuvre and manipulate by staging performances . Shakespeare premises the entire
drama upon the ghost s revelation of the happenings of the murder and Hamlet engages in a facade
in order to grapple with this reality. The overt presence of metatheatre especially with the enacting
of The Murder of Gonzago and in Hamlet s feigning of lunacy, endeavours to reason with and
validate Hamlet s psychological ongoings but does so with underlying irony. Shakespeare, in my
opinion, hints at the futility of such drastic pretence and enactment with the use tragic irony that
concludes the play. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From a psychological point of view, feigned madness can be grounds on which Hamlet s future
actions can be legitimised, if not at least be accounted for. To commit a murder for the purpose of
revenge, on the basis of a spirit s account would seem rather absurd but by proclaiming madness,
the entire prospect is more believable and by that extension, validates the possibility of such an
account. More importantly, Proser argues that Hamlet s barrage of incoherencies
(transparent to us, opaque to them) acts as a smoke screen for his own soliloquized plot hatching (
Proser 340 ). In a sense, the artifice of madness can assist as a deceptive tool while Hamlet struggles
internally to resolve the moral quandary of vengeance and seeks to confirm the truth behind the
King s murder. Although Polonius incorrectly attributes
Hamlet s madness to Ophelia s love, his detection that Though this be madness, yet there is method
in t (II.ii.223 224) reaffirms his lunacy as not actual craziness but a form of

  • 2. The Key Beliefs Of A Religious And Secular World View Of... Analyse the key beliefs of a religious and secular world view in relation to ultimate questions Taylor Murfitt. In this report I will be both contrasting and comparing the religious view of Catholicism and the world view of Secular Humanism. The three questions I will be analysing through the religious view of Catholicism and the world view Secular Humanism include: Is there a higher being? What is the purpose of my life? Is there a right way to treat people? These three questions are very much conflicting worldwide and many philosophical discussions have been debated for years, however with many different views on the world, not everyone on Earth has the same answer to these. This may be due to different upbringings through youth, values, and overall beliefs, including Catholicism and Secular Humanism. Within this report there is no aim of finding the truth or the actual answer, it is simply an analysis of people s personal beliefs to these questions. I am going to include others opinions including my own interviewee s (would like to be kept anonymous) thoughts and beliefs throughout the report, including my own, and opinions I have researched to further analyse opinions of different groups that can support these worldviews. A brief description of the religious view Catholicism: A denomination of Christianity. I have decided to specifically narrow my world religion view to Catholicism, which is one of the main and largely practiced branches of Christianity. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Summary Of Plutarch s Death Of Cleopatra The extract from Plutarch s Life of Antony concentrates on Cleopatra s seduction of Antony. It presents Cleopatra and her retinue as manipulative, Her [Cleopatra s] flatterers also worked hard upon Antony at this time. They told him that he must be an insensitive brute with a heart of stone, for here was a mistress who was utterly devoted to him alone . Plutarch: Makers of Rome also references Cleopatra s wiles, Plato speaks of four kinds of flattery. but Cleopatra knew a thousand (Scott Kilvert, 1965, p. 296). Plutarch opines that Cleopatra s ignominy of being Antony s concubine is tolerable if, [She] could see him and spend her life with him.... if he drove her away it would be the death of her . Consequently, melted and unmanned Antony returns to Alexandria fearing Cleopatra s suicide. In doing so, Antony neglects his duties at Parthia, [With] Cleopatra s alarms, and arts upon the occasion. He puts off his Median expedition (Langhorne et al., 1810, P. 58). Portraying Cleopatra as a femme fatale, Plutarch sees the relationship reducing Antony to a fallen hero dishonouring Rome. ... • 4. Analysis Of This Is A White Man s Government `` The Civil War, in term of the modern mind, was a war that divided the nation, yet was able to free the slaves. The idea that such a bloody war was able to liberate a group of oppressed was enough to justify the deaths of many Americans; yet when analyzing the lives of these so called freed people it becomes apparent that they were not freed. The ideology of the Lost Cause allowed for the creation of resentment towards blacks. From this hate an unholy trinity of white men with different backgrounds came united and threated to destroy the idea of a democratic America. Thomas Nast s satirical drawing, titled This is a White Man s Government displays the possible destruction of America by this unholy trinity in an effort to maintain the pre Civil War hierarchy. The focal point of the published image is the three piled hands of the men, representing the unity that they formed in order to maintain control over a democratic America. When the viewer looks at the sketch, their eyes focus directly onto the pile of hands in the center. This gesture assures the audience of a commitment and pact established by these men. Nast is able to address the unspoken agreement between these men with the placement of their feet. Their feet give a name to their agreement as they hold hands as they stomp on a black war veteran. The placement of legs in the drawing, This is a White Man s Government , continues to imply that the forces of the trinity are meant to continue the oppression of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Causes Of President Herbert Hoover And The Great... The reasoning behind what actually caused the great depression is contentious. Most Americans will cite the stock market crash of 1929 caused the Great Depression. On the other hand, if one were to ask an economists, many opinions and facts will be brought to light. US policy is large factor when discussing the causations. Herbert Hoover, the 31st President of the United States of America (1929 1933) had a main role in changing US policy. President Hoover, was born in 1874, grew up in the state of Oregon and graduated as a mining engineer from Stanford. He spent most of his life before Presidency abroad. Hoover was present, before during and after the Boxer Rebellion in China. He worked to feed Belgium s during their German occupied years of World War I. Then Hoover moved onto provide relief work in Russia until the United States entered the war. President Wilson appointed him head of Food Administration, then the American Relief Administration. In 1920 he began to serve as the Commerce Secretary under President Harding and the continued with President Coolidge. When he became the Republican Presidential Nominee in 1928 Herbert Hoover stated, We in America today are nearer to the final triumph over poverty than ever before in the history of any land . A great statement, however months later the stock market crashed and the United States went into the Great Depression, or what is considered a lost decade. • 6. Persuasive Essay On Racism In Sports Racism is prevalent in today s society and is exposed in the sports industry as well. Various athletes in different sports field experience racism and face it everyday. Social media is a big platform for people to criticize athletes for their failures and success. On the other hand more times than not, racismcan be found within the head of organizations of major sports, most noticeably football. The NFL has condoned an abundance of racist actions towards players of Hispanic and African American descent; therefore, the NFL should stop these problems by supporting athletes that take a stand, holding the NFL owners accountable for their actions, and finally, not stereotyping young black athletes into a position based off of racial factors. An organization like the NFL needs to support their athletes when they decide to exercise their 1st amendment rights. For example, a current event that has ravished the mainstream media would be over the controversy with Colin Kaepernick. There are 64 quarterbacks total in the NFL at the time, Kaepernick not being one of them. At the end of the season Kaepernick had a passer rating of 90.7 (ESPN, 2016) . That was better than ten starting quarterbacks in the league at that time. Also, to add to his resume he only threw four interceptions during the season. His stats prove that he s a proven NFL starter and his trip to the Superbowl in 2013 are examples of why he should be added to any NFL roster. Why isn t he on a roster? It s primarily ... • 7. The Fellowship Of The Ring In the Fellowship of the Ring written by J.R.R. Tolkien and it reveals a new world of elves, magic, men, dwarves, hobbits, and other unworldly creatures. Middle Earth is the name of the lands every creature inhabits, and like our world, it is divided up and has different realms of elves, dwarves, men and so forth. Much to my surprise I enjoyed the book and found it was very intriguing. While I was reading further into the book I became more drawn into the plot and main characters. The Fellowship of the Ring is part of a trilogy and I would enjoy reading the other two books in the series. The story commences with a narrative speech spoken by Bilbo Baggins, a hobbit of the Shire, and gives the reader the background of Middle Earth. Gandalfthe Grey is in the Shire and decides to visit Bilbo while he is getting ready for his 111th birthday, which commences the same night. During the birthday party Bilbo decides to play a little trick on his guests with his special ring and disappears before their very eyes as he slips on his ring. Bilbo runs to his home and packs up his belongings and departs for a journey, while he s packing Gandalf arrives to speak to Bilbo. Before Bilbo leaves the Shire, he leaves the ring and everyone of his belongings to Frodo. Frodo arrives back to Bilbo s home and sees Bilbo has left, and discovers Bilbo has left the ring for him. During a time of segregation and oppression of Americans of color, Martin Luther King sought the true promise of a united tomorrow. Surely all people are created equal and deserving of happiness. In the hope that a bridge of brotherhood could be built amid the turmoil of a divided America, Martin Luther King through his memorable speech, I Have a Dream, paved the way to freedom, to equality, and to justice for all Americans. Martin Luther King carved a path to freedom despite unrelenting prejudice. Now was the time to band together as a unified force to reap the promises so long ago proclaimed by the founding forefathers who guaranteed life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness (King, 1963). However, to Dr. King s credit he understood that despite the travesties of cruelty and injustice those oppressed must not wallow in the valley of despair (King, 1963). The treatment of this condition is effective using peripherally acting NSAIDs justly in a short term relief or in acute low back pain.1 At the same time, the use of antidepressants or other drugs such as tramadol have shown efficacy, where tramadol is centrally acting analgesicby inhibiting serotonin and noradrenaline reuptake, and activating nonselective m opioid receptors via its active metabolite. 1 Moreover, acetaminophen is considered a first line treatment for chronic painand commonly used among several years, which effectiveness is due to its analgesic and antipyretic properties. 1 However, acetaminophen may present some hepatotoxic effects when misused.1 Therefore, the concomitant use of both therapies would bring efficacy with a multiple analgesic mechanism of action, since this therapy also shown a synergistic effect in animal models. 1 According to Lee (2013), it would be more effective an extended release release tramadol HCl 75 mg/acetaminophen 650 mg fixed combination tablets (TA ER) formulation to achieve pain relief effects in a sustained analgesic activity over time. 1 Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of TA ER, in a Phase III clinical trial, for the treatment of moderate to severe chronic low back pain insufficiently controlled by previous NSAIDs or cyclooxygenase 2 (COX 2) selective inhibitors. • 12. Analysis Of I Am Cuba And The Rehabilitation Of... Bridget Hockaday Professor Jill Lane Cultures Contexts: Latin America 1 October 2014 Revolution and Prostitution I am Cuba and The Rehabilitation of Prostitutes present the figure of the prostitute as a representation of Cuba s degraded condition in relation to the United States. The Revolution was interested in the rehabilitation of prostitutes as a metaphor for the rehabilitation of Cuba. I Am Cuba explains the need for revolution in Cuba. The film captures the political oppression and the large disparity in wealth and power experienced by the people under the dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista prior to the Revolution. In one scene, it portrays the foreign contribution to the prostitution and poverty epidemic in Havana. The American tourists degrade and dehumanize the prostitutes; the men consider the prostitutes to be something on the side after their drink orders, and they refer to them as tasty morsel and dish. However, one of the American tourists announces that [he d] like to see where these women live, and a prostitute named Maria reluctantly agrees to take the man to see her home. Here, the man encounters her poor and dismal living conditions. Her home is merely a shack. The mistreatment and abuse by American tourists on the Cuban people created lives consumed by suffering and destitution. The Rehabilitation of Prostitutes provides a moral perception of the efforts made by the Revolution to decrease prostitution. According to The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Czech Republic And The Republic The Czech Republic is located nearly in the center of Europe and was recently known as Czechoslovakia. The Czech Republic is bordered by Slovakia, Germany, Poland, and Austria. The Czech Republic was a part of Czechoslovakia until 1993 when it split into both the Czech Republic and Slovakia. With it being a fairly new country, one would assume that it is struggling to catch up to society economically, this is simply untrue, because the Czech Republicis one of the most economically stable countries in Europe. The Czech Republic has been a member of the European Unionsince it joined in 2004. The Czech Republic is one of the most economically profitable countries inside the European Union. The Czech Republic is a smaller country, only being around 30,450 square miles big, a little less than half the size of New York state and roughly 22 times smaller than the state of Alaska. Although it is small, its location is very beneficial when it comes to importing and exporting. All of the bordering countries of the Czech Republic are members of the European Union, so they all share lower taxes on imports and exports as well as more economic freedom when trading amongst each other. Because of this, the barriers of entry to the Czech Republic are almost nonexistent. The recent history of the Czech Republic has been somewhat small being that it only became a country 22 years ago. • 14. Women s Job Market And Qualifying For Senior Positions Essay With more and more women participating in the job market and qualifying for senior positions, gender diversity in senior and executive positions is of significance to the development of a company (Johns,2013). Research studies show that companies with more females in top positions perform better than those with fewer or no women. However, the phenomenon that women are underrepresented exists globally, state Terjesen and Singh (2008). Although the status of the women s workforce in senior occupations in the world in the last few decades has been improved in many countries and regions(Kemp Madsen Davis,2015), women still remain outsiders in senior positions in some counties. According to the data provided by Deloitte (2015), women in India occupy fewer than 10% of seats on boards and fewer than 5% of board chairs while Norway has legislated that 40% of the boardroom of public companies must be women, which has been achieved within a few years. The initial progress of Norway for women impressed many western countries and these countries tried to follow the same suit(Lang,2010). In political areas, the percent of national parliament seats held by women of India is only 11.97% and is 7.33% lower than femalerepresentation in governments around the world. However, Norwegian women s participation in government takes up 39.64%. Many factors may have an impact on this case. • 15. Why The Church Is A Complex Concept Of Grasp There are many reasons why the church is one, but to actually be one is a complex concept to grasp. To be one means to be united, and unity is a powerful bond held together for a common purpose. For example, through the Trinity, God is one in the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Likewise, all the aspects of the church is one just like the relationship of the Trinity. However, the Trinity is also one of the primary ways the church is united. The Trinity is the leader in making the church one. As Lumen Gentium claims, the universal church is seen to be a people made one by the unity of the Father, the Son, and the holy Spirit, (Lumen Gentium, 4). Yet, each part of the Trinity plays a specific role in the unity. First, God the Father calls us to be a part of His church. All the just from the time of Adam, from Abel, the just one, to the last of the elect will be gathered together with the Father in the universal church, (Lumen Gentium, 2). God the Father allows the entire church to have a relationship with Him, and brings people together through his love. In addition, The Father sent His Son to bring the kingdom of God to Earth. The Church s foundation is the Son of God. Lumen Gentium goes on to say, All are called to this union with Christ, who is the light of the world, from whom we come, through whom we live, and towards whom we direct our lives, (Lumen Gentium, 3). Therefore as the church, unity is formed by following and devoting our lives to JesusChrist, and it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. The Importance Of Biodiversity The 3.7 billion years of the earth s biological history can be summarized as follows: Organisms convert energy into food, chemical elements perform their cycles, and species perform different biological functions (niches) evolving in response to changes according to conditions environmental impacts. This implies that today, every specieson the planet has gone through an evolutionary process and that each individual performs their role in the ecosystem. Like the many species in the world, we human beings (thanks to certain characteristics that allow us to adapt and modify the environment) have been able to increase our chances of survival on earth and this has led us to a gigantic population and economic growth, which we call Development. However, such a development makes the degradation of natural resources increasingly fast, making it imperative and necessary to establish conservation oriented guidelines, since biodiversityis of the utmost importance for the functioning of the ecosystem. BIODIVERSITY Biodiversity or biological diversity is a term used very well to describe the richness and variety of all living things in the world; from plants and animals to microorganisms and beings a thousand times more complex. Thus, on biological diversity we can say that it is present in the most varied places, from the cold glaciers of the Arctic to the volcanic regions of Chile. In Brazil, this fact is not different, and this is the country that holds about 20% of the world s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As the Russian air force had been deployed there has been progress, however the Russians have been accused of targeting civilians and civilian property, such as schools and hospitals. Jaws Short Monologue Analysis Patrick Cassells Ms. Ballard Period One October 5th 2014 Over the years of cinema history, we ve heard plenty lines that make our skin crawl with bone chilling fear, but for me, none quite did it like this line from Captain Quint, in Jaws. You know the thing about a shark, he s got... lifeless eyes, black eyes, like a doll s eye. When he comes at ya, doesn t seem to be livin . Until he bites ya and those black eyes roll over white. And then, ah then you hear that terrible high pitch screamin and the ocean turns red and spite of all the poundin and the hollerin they all come in and rip you to pieces. Y know by the end of that first dawn, lost a hundred men! I don t know how many sharks, maybe a thousand! I don t know how many men, they averaged six an hour. This quote is burned into my mind forever. I was maybe eleven when I first watched Jaws, and Captain Quints long monologue about his experience in the waters of the Atlantic, dumped into the sea by a shipwrecked USS. • 19. The Election Of Andrew Jackson With the election of Andrew Jackson, for the first time in American history, a common man built his way up to earn the title of President of the United States. Jackson being of low birth had particular significance because he went from rags to riches. During his presidency his affinity for the common people did not change, thus Jackson tended to favor the rights of the common people over what was constitutionally correct. Andrew Jacksonfrom such actions can be called the father of American democracy because he set the precedent that later presidents followed: where he campaigned and reached out to the people and set the notion that presidential policies ruled over Congress because the president was elected by the people. Although, most would argue against Jackson and his beliefs as president, it is evident that he always put the common people before himself as can be seen in his presidential runs, the spoils system, the vetoing of the second National Bank and the Indian Removal Act. The election process prior to 1824 focused more on the Legislature over the people. It wasn t until 1824, when Jackson ran for president, that the people had more of a say. In Methods of Electing Presidential Electors: 1816 to 1836 (Doc. 1), it is to be noted that voting power is the same between the people and the legislature, however Andrew Jackson s loss was the direct result of the Corrupt Bargain for which Jackson suspected Henry Clay did. • 24. The Mechanisms Of The Criminal Justice System CRJ Writing Assignment #1 The mechanisms of the criminal justice system in America function as more than the instruments for determining guilt in a criminal court case. Through the creation and enforcement of laws, it is a reflection of our society s morals and values. It is our form of social control. As set out in our text, in 1964 two models emerged in an article written by Herbert Packer, Two Models of the Criminal Process. Professor Packer proposed that there are two fundamental criminal justicemodels: the crimecontrol model and the due process model. Decision making within the criminal justice system is based on these two philosophical models. Historically, emphasis for one model over the other has shifted back and forth throughout the evolution of American culture. The crime control model is oriented toward law and order, the protection of society over the rights of individual defendants; while the due process model is attentive to the legal procedures and constitutional rights of the accused. This back and forth emphasis with either the conservative model of crime control vs. the liberal model favoring due process is known as how the pendulum swings. If I had to select one, I would choose the crime control model. Primarily because this is the most efficient and money saving to all involved. Like an assembly line, the crime control model emphasizes the quick and effective administration of justice through set procedures and direct handling of cases from ... In accordance to the stores policy, a counter designated as whites only could deny service to any and all African Americans. Therefore, the employee denied the men the coffee that had asked for. The Department of Homeland Security disagreed, saying that their calculations of illegal immigrants took a lot of factors into account. Several other major research organizations agreed, saying they also came up with estimates very close to the eleven million estimate given. Roman worship of Mithras began sometime during the early Roman empire, perhaps during the late first century of the Common Era (hereafter CE), and flourished from the second through the fourth centuries CE. While it is fairly certain that Romans encountered worship of the deity Mithras as part of Zoroastrianism in the eastern provinces of the empire, particularly in Asia Minor (now modern Turkey), the exact origins of cult practices in the Roman cult of Mithras remain controversial (see below). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The theory that Roman Mithraism had its roots in Zoroastrianism was first put forward by Franz Cumont, a Belgian scholar, in his two volume publication Textes et monuments figur eacutes relatifs aux myst egraveres de Mithra in 1896 and 1899. Cumont compiled a catalogue of every known mithraic temple, monument, inscription, and literary passage relating to Mithras and claimed on the basis of his study of this body of evidence that Roman Mithras was, ultimately, Zoroastrian Mithra. Cumont argued by extension that if Roman Mithras had Iranian roots, the cult of Mithraism must have originated in the eastern provinces of the Roman empire and spread westward with legionaries in the Roman army, merchants from eastern provinces (often lumped under the broad misnomer Syrians ), freedmen in the imperial bureaucracy, and slaves. Cumont himself recognized possible flaws in his theory. The most obvious is that there is little evidence for a Zoroastrian cult of Mithra (Cumont 1956), and certainly none that suggests that Zoroastrian worship of Mithra used the liturgy or the well devoloped iconography found in the Roman cult of Mithras. Moreover, few monuments from the Roman cult have been recovered from the very provinces which are thought to have inspired worship of Mithras (namely the provinces of Asia Minor). Number of Appeals Overview As a general rule, the final judgment of a lower district may only be appealed once to the next higher court. Therefore, the total number of appeals is dependent upon the total number of superior courts to the lower district court, which rendered the judgment. The first appeal is the appeal as of right (Levenson, 2017). The appeal as of right entitles the appellant to the assistance of counsel (Levenson, 2017). Steps in Filing a Timely Appeal: File the Notice of Appeal Filing an appeal is ordinarily a two step process: firstly, file the notice of appeal. The notice of appeal is filed with the lower district court, which simply notifies the lower district court that the defendant is appealing the case. The United States Circuit Court of Appeals may not consider an appeal, if the lower district court has not received timely notice of appeal. In criminal appeals, notice of appeal must be filed within ten days from the date the lower district court s judgment if filed (Levenson, 2017). Secondly, file the appellate brief with the United States Circuit Court of Appeals. As stated above, the appellate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Descriptive style helps to bracket any preconceptions, since hermeneutic methods acknowledge that an experience could influence its interpretation. To facilitate these experiments, we used the Sniffy the virtual rat Pro Version 3.0 program by Wadsworth Cengage Learning. This program attempts to accurately simulate some of the psychological processes and behavioral phenomena found in rats. In this program, all of the subjects are always starved for food, regardless of how much it has eaten. This simplifies the process of operant conditioningby reducing the amount of time required to simply wait for the virtual rat to be hungry again. For the following experiments, 22 virtual rat subjects, each supervised by its own experimenter, were subjected to operant conditioning techniques, followed by extinction, secondary reinforcement and spontaneous recovery. Since the same program was used for each of the 22 subjects, all the virtual rats can be considered to be identical to one another. Additionally, as a result of the food deprivation programming, all virtual rats are ready for the presentation of food as a reinforcer. Although each experiment consisted of 22 rats, the rats in experiment three are the same rats that were used in experiment one. Shakespeare premises the entire drama upon the ghost s revelation of the happenings of the murder and Hamlet engages in a facade in order to grapple with this reality. The overt presence of metatheatre especially with the enacting of The Murder of Gonzago and in Hamlet s feigning of lunacy, endeavours to reason with and validate Hamlet s psychological ongoings but does so with underlying irony. To commit a murder for the purpose of revenge, on the basis of a spirit s account would seem rather absurd but by proclaiming madness, the entire prospect is more believable and by that extension, validates the possibility of such an account. More importantly, Proser argues that Hamlet s barrage of incoherencies (transparent to us, opaque to them) acts as a smoke screen for his own soliloquized plot hatching ( Proser 340 ). In a sense, the artifice of madness can assist as a deceptive tool while Hamlet struggles internally to resolve the moral quandary of vengeance and seeks to confirm the truth behind the King s murder.
