Paleolithic Era
In the Paleolithic Era, humans relied on hunting and gathering to live, living off the resources the
environment provided and moving on when resources became scarce. This nomadic lifestyle allowed
them to eat a variety of plans and animals, including birds, mammoths, bison, deer, rodents, roots, and
berries. Because plants grew, fruited, and matured at different times of the year, gathering remained a
fairly constant means to provide food throughout the year. Although small animals and young, ill,
wounded, or old animals were easier to hunt successfully, hominids quickly mastered the techniques
to hunt large mammals, such as bison, rhinoceros, horses, woolly mammoths, and mastodons, to feed
more people. To do so, these hunters had to have high levels of cooperation, intelligence,
communication, and abstract reasoning, utilizing disguises, ambushes, camouflage, and traps. At first,
hominids lived in natural shelters such as caves and canyons, then in tents and simple huts after
discovering fire, developing the necessary tools and technologies to do so. Their nomadic lifestyle
discouraged them from building permanent homes, but rather required them to have tents and huts that
could be quickly erected and broken down. By the end of the ... Show more content on

With a spoken language, humans began forming social networks. Since humans are naturally social
creatures, early humans began organizing themselves into social groups early on. Small family units
bonded with other families to form clans or tribes. Because the hunter gatherer lifestyle worked best in
small groups, clans and tribes were usually relatively small, consisting of 30 to 50 people. This society
were usually governed by a council of elders, religious figures, or a single clan or tribal leader who
were the main figure of the society and was responsible for holding the society

Internal Contradiction Of Capitalism Analysis
Capitalism is not a rigid, inflexible economic and political system there are many forms of capitalism
around the world. It is illustrated as being different variations of capitalism outside the United States;
there is the Dutch version, the French version, the British version, as well as the American version.
American capitalism implements free market ideology and that makes the U.S. stand out among other
nations. Other nations do not dwell on privatization and deregulation nearly as much as the U.S.,
which is both a major strength and critique of American capitalism. One critique of American
capitalism is the Five Internal Contradiction of Capitalism. These contradictions include inevitable
growth of monopolies, demand labor saving technology ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The answer does not have to be socialism or any other economic policy, but reform is necessary to
save the lives of millions of Americans currently suffering in poverty. The current economic and
political policies are creating class inequality so dramatic that families cannot survive no matter how
hard they work. That is not the American Dream children learn in social studies classes year after year.
Students in the United States grow up learning about the many accomplishments the country has made
over the centuries and that in the United States, the right amount of drive and determination can
guarantee success. Coming out of high school and college, young adults learn fast that establishing a
life in the United States is difficult without reliable resources to aid them in becoming independent.
That is not feasible when the majority of wealth is only available to the upper class. There is not
enough wealth to create opportunities for everyone to thrive and those at the bottom suffer for just not
being fortunate enough. They are not given the same opportunities and are preyed upon for being
gullible and desperate for cash. In reality, it shows that those who are at the

Mike O. Callaghan-Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge
Since the early days, the men try overcome environmental challenges and, in this process, ends up
creating amazing masterpieces of engineering. Among this works, the bridges appears as the clearest
representatives of how the mankind could adapt to Earth s contours. If the shape of landscape can t be
changed, the bridges are the solution to link two places and allows the connection of the traffic to
improve aspects such as the communication and the trade. Depending to the need, to the sources and
to the environment, the bridge can be constructed in a specific configuration. There are five main sorts
of bridges configurations. First, there is the simplest bridge, the beam bridge. Second, the arch bridge,
one of the oldest kind. There are the truss, composed of set of trellises. Lastly, there are the cable

Among the hundreds of thousands bridges in the world, two worth mentioning for their history and
unique features. These two engineering masterpieces are the Mike O Callaghan Pat Tillman Memorial
Bridge, as known as Hoover Dam Bypass Bridge and the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge. Through the analysis
of their characteristics, it is possible compare and contrast these projects in aspects such as historic
facts, design features, and environmental and construction challenges.
First, the construction of the bride reflects a need and depends of the constructors sources. A bridge is
basically constructed to link two places, but its importance comes from the reason for which it was
made. Each bridge has its own motive to exist and history. In the case of the Hoover Dam Bypass, the
project was conceived as a alternative to the traffic. Previously the construction of the bridge, the big
project of the hydroelectric dam on the Colorado River, also was used as a path to

Key West Agreement Analysis
In addressing the inconsistencies of the National Security Act and Executive Order 9877, Secretary of
Defense Forrestal proposed a redraft of the Executive Order to the Chiefs of Staff. However, none of
the Generals approved the suggested changes. In response, Secretary Forrestal arranged a conference
in Key West, during March 1948. Within a month, the Key West Agreement had been signed by all of
the Chiefs of Staff, who agreed on the functions of each Service. Among other points of interest, the
agreement included Section I, paragraph d., which stated, Prevention of unnecessary duplication or
overlapping among the Services, by utilization of the personnel, intelligence, facilities, equipment,
supplies and services, improving military ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Secretary of the Army Frank Pace and Secretary of the Air Force Thomas Finletter came up with the
first of two agreements that further defined organic aviation within the Army. In the letter signed on 2
October 1951, it was evident that the Army was trying to improve its combat efficiency, and the Air
Force was mainly concerned with job security. The agreement s first paragraph echoed this sentiment,
insuring, the U.S. Army may employ aircraft necessary for its internal requirements in the conduct of
operations on land, without infringement upon the missions assigned to the U.S. Air Force (Wolf,
1987, p. 239). The Army also received a more specific purpose as to how it could incorporate aviation,
to expedite and improve ground combat and logistical procedures within the combat zone (Wolf, 1987,
p. 239). In addition, the agreement outlined missions that Army Aviation could accomplish, including
aerial observation, adjusting artillery fire, providing command and control, and transportation of Army
supplies, equipment, and small units within the combat zone (Wolf, 1987, p. 239). An open ended
statement that would provide leeway for Army leaders to maximize the use of aviation assets was
included in section 3, which stated, Army organic aircraft will be used by the responsible Army
commander as he considers necessary for the

The Tales Of Bath s Tale
The Canterbury Tales provides an array of tales, specifically two tales in which one better provides the
most meaning and delight compared to the other. The Wife of Bath s Prologue and Tale represents the
view and desires of women during that time period. The Pardoner s Prologue and Tale describes the
type of person the Pardoner is along with how money can be evil. In The Canterbury Tales, The
Pardoner s Tale , provides the most moral meaning compared to The Wife of Bath s Tale by stating
that greed can manipulate people into plotting unspeakable actions unto each other. In the prologue of
The Pardoner s Tale , he describes himself and he is also states that he is a preacher who is only after
money. He tells his audience that, By this guade have I wonne, yeer by yeer, A hundred mark, sith I
was pardoner (lines 101 02). A preacher is supposed to have concern for the ones who have committed
sins. The preacer is there to listen to the people and repent them. He on the other does not care about
the sins individuals have committed because he is after their money only. Helping the sinned
individuals does not motivate him: money does. He even goes as far saying he does not care where his
money and other beloved items come from, even if it meant somebody died of starvation. This is
shown in lines 160 63, I wol have moneye, wolle, cheese, and whete, Al were it yiven of the pooreste

Write An Essay On The Mongols
The Mongols The Mongols were able to conquer Asia in just 30 years, for many skilled reasons. They
were taught at a young age working with a bow and became very skilled arches. Second they were
great at riding horses and could shoot bows at their enemies while on the horse. They had several
different siege machines that did different things to help them. Mongols were very organized and that
was the main key to a part of their suessess. Last they were the most fierce warriors that many people
would surrender without even trying to put up a fight. The Mongols were skilled archers, and horses
back riding. They had one composite bow made out of sinew and horn, and were skilled at shooting it
while riding there horse. With the bows they had they could shoot as far of a range from more than
350 yards, and their English longbow was only 250 yards. By ... Show more content on

They had at least over five siege machines that they had in their favor in a war or a battle. The names
of the four main ones are the catapult hurled stones, flaming liquids, the trebuchet, and the ballista.
Ballista was a very powerful one that helped the Mongols a lot, it shot large arrows that could damage
buildings and structures and kill any person or animal in its path. Then the Trebuchet was a catapult
powered by the drop of a heavy counterweight, threw objects faster than the torsion catapult. If your a
Mongol warrior and you have those two main siege machine that will over power their enemies and
don t forget the other ones they have also to do damage. The key to success with the Mongols that
helped them with their machines, and archong skills was organization. Giving them organization gave
them the power to keep all there machines and bows in order and not be a mess. That s how the

Research Paper On Monsanto
Monsanto is a company that effects almost every human in the United States and millions abroad. But
what is Monsanto? Monsanto is one of the largest producers of genetically modified crops in the
world. Genetically modified crops play a pivotal role in our food supply today. Over 60% of food on
the shelves of our supermarkets contain some form of genetically altered soybean, corn or canola.
However, Monsanto may not be nice as they seem. Over the past few years Monsanto has been
investigated under allegations of collusion and keeping others out of the market with anti competitive
business tactics. Collusion is the cooperation of two or more businesses to keep prices high, when they
cooperate the public has no choice to buy these high prices goods, and the companies involved make a
fortune. Monsanto s business tactics are meant to keep competitors out of the market and to force
farmers to be dependent on their products. Monsanto produces a good that isn t exactly the best for the
environment. Genetically Modified Organisms, more commonly known as GMO s, are the latest
scientific breakthrough. Many studies have shown how GMO s are bad for genetic diversity and even
worse for the health of those that consume them. So why do we buy GMO s? One reason is that GMO

Cookies At 4 In The Morning I m about 4 years old, I had super blonde piggy tails. I was the typical

Insanity And Detachment Of Order
Melissa Ranieri

30 May 2017 Insanity and Detachment of Order
Insanity is a field of behaviours characterized by abnormal mental or behavioural patterns. It may be
apparent as violations of societal norms, including a person becoming a danger to themselves or
others. In modern usage, insanity is mostly seen as a term implying mental instability. Insanity is a
recurring theme in Timothy Findley s fictions. While he does not dispute its existence, the author
brings into question its meaning and its role, as well as the values of the societies that seek to define it.
Findley brings into question the meaning of this theme, both in a narrative context within his books
and as a term in itself and within ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In both cases, the theme of insanity creates a detachment of societal norms. Hooker s hint of insanity
develops at the beginning of the book, when he goes on to describe the conditions in which he lives in,
and goes on to state that his ...house was just on the outskirts of town, unlike the rest of the town s
people. All through the house they closed doors and drew shades, they got dead quiet. That is how his
father liked it after Jessie came home (Findley 9). This life of isolation has already given Hooker the
incentive to detach from society, as he is constantly seen as a character that has trouble with
understanding societal ideals. He is seen as a character who has been forced to detach from society
when his mother Jessie comes home wanting to live in isolation after the miscarriage of her unborn
child; therefore allowing some of his mothers negative behaviours about life to rub off on him.
Through the characterization of Hooker, Findley explores the vice potential of such a subject, who
becomes the servant of destruction of the social structures that produced him. In Julie Salem Wiseman
s essay Insanity Begins at Home: Madness in the Family in Timothy Findley s Last of the Crazy
People, she states that Findley creates a Laingian portrait of how a disordered and degenerate social
reality of which the Winslows especially Hooker are an extreme representation produces subjects who
have not only internalized the social pathology that has formed them but also use the

In February 2014, the company announced an A$252 million loss in the first half of FY14 alone, and
the need to cut costs by A$2 billion and the workforce by 5,000 full time employees or part time

Qantas is lobbying for the Federal Government not only to repeal or at least alter theQantas Sales Act,

there, he says, in the full vigor of her personality, battered but not diminished This quote shows that

The rat was laid face down on the tray and immediately we were able to distinguish whether it was
male or female. We could tell our rat was male because of the inflamed or overly sized testes. After
Mr.Cantrell gave us advice on how to successfully skin the rat, we began our dissection. Before we
began to cut down the rat, we had to break both of the rats arms and legs in order to pin it down onto
the tray. After doing this and pinning the rat down, we were able to begin. Caitlin picked up the
scalpel and began to cut vertically down the rats stomach. We had to do this operation very slowly and
delicately, otherwise we would cut through the muscle. After finishing cutting it vertically, we cut
across both arms and legs. By then, we were able to peel the skin back and pin it onto the tray. We
weren t able to see the organs yet, therefore we had to cut through the muscle. By cutting through the
muscle, a lot of formaldehyde and bodily liquid began to pour out which was nauseating yet
interesting. We decided to take both the rat and tray over to the trash can and dish out all of the
formaldehyde that was filled inside of the rat s body. After doing this, we went back to

the left corner, written in sharp but not altogether domineering font, are the name of the product (UA
Ridge Reaper) and a quick description: Never detected. Always lethal. There s a lot going on in this ad
that contributes to the feeling that these guys are silent, undetectable slayers of elk. They are natural

ad, you ll associate the UA logo with burly hunters and a pile of elk antlers. If you re big into elk
hunting, any product that piles up the antlers is a product that you want to buy. The sepia filter used on
the picture almost creates a kind of aged effect, even though all their gear is very modern. This,
combined with the fact that they re in Arizona or New Mexico or somewhere in that area, creates a
feeling of the wild west. As for the burly guys who are exercising their second amendment rights?

Martha Sigall Research Paper
Martha Sigall has passed away at the age of 97. Martha Goldman Sigall was born on April 17, 1917 in
New York. She spent much of her life in the animation business mainly working in the ink and paint
department and other associated activities at various studios, eventually compiling over fifty years in
the Hollywood industry. Moving to California in 1926 where by chance living around the corner from
Leon Schlesinger s Pacific Title and Art company, she ran errands for the staff at around the age of 12.
On July 13, 1936, she became a painter at Leon Schlesinger Productions, home of Looney Tunes and

God s Sovereignty Of Eternal Life
There are many great points that Moyer brings out as to how we should evangelize. He is clear on
many aspects of the Gospel, such as using 1 Corinthians 15 to explain what the Gospel is. He also
deals with sin, saving faith, assurance, good works, evangelism in the New Testament, the best way to
evangelize, prayer, boldness in evangelism and our duty as believers to evangelize. For the most part it
is great stuff.
There were some thoughts that were not so positive when I finished reading the book. In an
overarching way, Moyer gives a sense that man accepts a gift in trusting Christ rather than God
choosing man to receive the gift of eternal life by trusting Christ. It may seem like splitting hairs to
some, but what is called into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The good news is that God made a way for man to come back into a right relationship with Him
through the atoning death, burial and resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ. How we can come into a
right relationship with Christ is by realizing our condition of sin and recognizing that without Christ
we will spend eternity in hell apart from God. Oversimplification doesn t make the Gospel clearer
instead it gives a muddy picture of who Christ is and what He did. The Gospel is not that God is here
for you take Him. The Gospel is we are here for God serve Him. The only way we can serve Him is if
we are in right relationship with Him.
Moyer s book stresses emphatically that repentance in salvation is only a changing of the mind and not
a change of the will or actions. When used in a soteriological context, repentance means to change
your mind about whatever is keeping you from trusting Christ and trust Him alone to save you. [2]
Moyer also feels that repentance is not necessary for the sharing of the Gospel to an unbeliever A
comfort we derive from studying repentance is recognizing that we need not apologize for not using
the word repentance in evangelistic presentations. [3]
Moyer does not believe that salvation in any way requires surrendering to Christ. God does not say to
a lost person, You must give me control of your life or I will not save you. He is asking,

Women s Subjectivity in Arabian Nights by Judith Grossman...
Women s Subjectivity in Arabian Nights by Judith Grossman
Judith Grossman wrote an article concerning women s subjectivity in Arabian Nights. The article
brought out many points to which I had never given thought. As I read the novel, I saw that women
were considered evil and bad, but I didn t think much more of it. After reading Grossman s article I
must say I agree with many of the thoughts expressed. She focuses on the fact that women are
considered to be evil, but it is just because their true self has never had a chance to be free. Women are
locked into this reciprocal cycle of deceit and unfaithfulness, only after being oppressed by their
husbands or keepers, as in the case of the Jinnee and the maiden. Grossman s article ... Show more

The maiden says, But I have lain under as many men as I ve desired, and this wretched jinnee doesn t
realize that destiny cannot be averted or hindered by anything and that whatever a woman wants, she
will get, no matter how much a man might try to prevent it.(11) It is easy to see that she is rebelling in
her own way against the rules set forth by the jinnee and all of mankind. She has a deep hatred
towards men, and she makes herself feel better by dominating strange men and threatening them with
the loss of their lives. Although she cannot actually kill them her captor the jinnee, will without a
second thought. Though she is dominated by the jinnee, she has a power over the men she finds. This
evens out the balance of power a little between the jinnee and the maiden. Women are made out to be
awful, horrible creatures from which men should take cover. In Arabian Nights there are many
passages in which women are negatively portrayed. For example, This only proves that all women will
make cuckolds out of their husbands when given the chance...No man in this world is safe from the
malice of women! (6) This is only one of many blatant sexist remarks in this text. Grossman takes the
stance in her article, ...but my focus is not on the solipsistic narrator it is on narration as a social act
undertaken in a specified context of events.(113) To me this means that she is focusing on what
character is doing the narration in the context

Literary Analysis Of Miss Brill
In the short story Miss Brill an elderly woman sits in a park, romanticizing about all the possible
scenarios that are taking place around her. This story has many central themes, the main one, of
course, being perception. Miss Brill is a very perceptive woman, which is continuously showcased by
her being able to pick up on, and closely observe, the different narratives transpiring in the park. Miss
Brill was able to see the humour in these performances , however, ironically, she failed to see that she
herself was the subject of a joke. Through continuously romanticizing reality, and focusing only on
one s own point of view, one runs the risk of becoming oblivious to the way others view one s self.
Aforementioned, Miss Brill, an elderly woman, sits in a park within walking distance of her residence,
and observes. That is essentially the sum of the story, the shortened version. This is because she is
likely very lonely, as shown by the author, literally in the name, Miss Brill. Not Ms. Brill, not Mrs.
Brill, but Miss, which is done to emphasize that she is unmarried. The purpose of this is to point out
that she doesn t have anyone of significance in her life and that she is probably lonely. This is
important because it points out why someone, in their right mind, would want to sit around a park all
day and watch people. Except she doesn t just watch them, she dreams up narratives and ponders the
possible conversations they re having, and gives them a role to fill in her

Essay The Art Cowboy
Booze, cigarettes, sex, beer, curses, affairs, abuse, paint: All of those are factors in Jackson Pollock s
life, however, one stands out above all as the most important one, paint. America s greatest painter,
born in Cody, Wyoming on January 28, 1912, had a deeper connection to this colorful, flowing liquid
than anyone else in history. Blood did not run through his veins, but oil and pigment, tar and sand did.
He became something else while he painted. He became his painting. No other painter in history had
been able to do what Jackson Pollock did. Jackson pushed past any boundaries in the world of art. He
created something new, and at the time no one had been able to do that. Jackson Pollock shocked the

It was after he moved to Long Island that he discovered what he was to be truly famous for, his drip

(2). This was of painting without subject matter is known as action painting (2). Indicated by one
source, he needed to view his painting from all angles and step around it (National Gallery of Art 2).
This is part of the technique and action painter uses to get into his or her painting. He had developed
the ability to become completely part of his painting (2). In the film Pollock, when Krasner discovers
Pollock s new way of painting she says, You ve done it Pollock. You ve cracked it open. This is
exactly what Jackson did, he cracked open the art world, exposing new skin and breaking all the
traditions. Rugoff indicates that Pollock, with strong influence, had changed painting from a
traditional compositional technique to something else, making his paintings look more as sculptures
(442). Along with the finished product, the method Pollock used to paint was out of the ordinary.
Pollock painted physically, in almost a performance art technique (National Gallery of Art 2). His
movements could not be repeated, however, the artwork always came out how the artist wanted it to

Analysis Of Queen By Audrey Flack
Queen, by Audrey Flack is a very captivating piece of artwork. It was painted in 1976, originally
Audrey Flack took a picture and then used it as the basis for this painting. Queen is a painting of box
that is full of special mementos. It has features such as a quarter of an open orange, a rose, a pocket
watch, a queen playing card, a locket of an older and a younger woman, lip balm, perfume, a chess
piece, blush, and a chain necklace with the letter F on it. The painting almost looks like a vanity
drawer or a keepsake drawer. However, realizing the fruits and flower in the painting I understood it to
be a collection of the artist s memories as opposed to a drawer. Audrey Flack was demonstrating the
many things that were significant to her while aging. Queen signifies the fight against time. It shows
that no matter what possessions you retain it will not keep you young. No one can win the battle
against time.
I am going to describe every element in the painting while analyzing every element as well. I will
show why I believe the objects and elements in the painting point towards my thesis of how the Queen
is expressing a fight against time. First off, the games. The card of queen and the chess piece are both
mementos from the artist s childhood, showing she grew up playing games. Something significant
about the queen playing card is its femininity. Why specifically the queen as opposed to any other
card? I think it addresses the phase the artist went through as a child

this does not seem to be the case in these situations, seeing that the majority of the other participants

Because the blacks were unable to break the racial barrier they were stuck with low end jobs. As a

BABY BOOM AND SUBURBIA: Affordable housing, the desire to leave the cities, and racial fears
were all factors that led to many white Americans to move to suburban areas. William Levitt was a
main promoter of suburban living, he was contracted by the federal government during the war to
quickly build housing for military personnel; Levitt applied the techniques of mass production to
construction. In 1947, he set out to erect the largest planned living community in the United States on
farmland he had purchased on Long Island, New York.
Each house had two bedrooms, one bathroom, and no basement. The kitchen was situated near the
back of the house so mothers could keep an eye on their children in the backyard. Within one year,
Levitt was building 36 houses per day. His assembly line approach made the houses extremely
affordable. At first, the homes were available only to veterans. Eventually, though, Levittown, was
open to others as well. By 1960, more Americans lived in suburbs than in cities; because few new
homes were built during the war years, the country faced a housing shortage. Another reason for
moving to the suburbs was the baby boom. After World War II came to an end, the United States
experienced unprecedented population growth, known

Santa Marta Settlement Of A Farm Owned By Francisco Jose...
Minoja (2012) found that until 1824, the area now occupied by Santa Marta settlement is part of a
farm owned by Francisco Jose Leite, Baron of Vassouras. In 1824 the land then passed to a second
owner of the farm to the Baron of Macaubas. In 1920 began the growth of the nearby suburb of
Copacabana and Botafogo, causing large amounts of development and thus increasing the need for
workers. On Santa Marta hill, due to the construction of Santo Inacio church and college, many people
migrated for the economic opportunities offered by the project and for the land in which to erect
houses offered by the priests. This project lasted almost 30 years.
The priest permitted the workers to erect their houses on Santa Marta hill, marking the beginning of
this settlement. The first dwellings were built on the top section of the hill surrounded by the atlantic
forest, one of the first being the chapel built by Jesuit priests consecrated to Santa Marta, in which the
settlement is named after (Minoja, 2012, pg41).
Between 1930 1940 many people migrated from other areas of Brazil, as a result over time the
settlement densified and grew downwards towards the city. In 1940 approximately 31% of Brazil s
population was living in urban areas and the first census was conducted of 14 favelas in Rio de Janeiro

The War On Drugs And Its Effect On Society
Humans have the tendency to wage war on anything which they thing has a negative Fulsy 7

Americans and their leaders. Others claimed that Nixon was using the war on drugs as a way to

been, the war on drugs led to an increase in incarceration, especially among African Americans, and
by so doing many families where destroyed and many African American children ended without
families and had to depend on gangs for shelter and protection. This widely increased the crime rates
since many people where unemployed. Christina Johns in her article clearly articulates that the war on

out is kind of the same thing as said by a researcher Burnout is categorized as physical, mental and
emotional exhaustion, according to National Nurses United While stress is characterized by over
engagement, burnout is characterized by disengagement. Burnout can lead to dulled emotions and
detachment. It strongly affects the emotions and undermines motivation, leaving a sense of
hopelessness. For those experiencing burnout, every day is a bad day (Ericksen,
Rasmussen.edu/degrees/nursing). So having all this stress on one person eventually catches on to them
having long Shifts, putting others first, being in a busy or highstress enviroment, and dealing with
sickness and death all contribute to a nurses burnout. Also according to the researcher they state
Burnout not only affects the wellbeing of nurses but also the care patients receive. Hospitals with high
burnout rates tend to have lower patient satisfaction, according to the National Institute of Health.
Nursing burnout has also been linked to an increased

October Sky Teacher
October Sky In the October Sky directed by Joe Johnston, the main character, Homer Hickam, was
inspired by his high school teacher, Miss Riley who affect him a lot on the way to success. In this
movie, Homer Hickam is a student with typical American Dream which is to design a space rocket,
and then he and his friends (Quentin Wilson, Roy Lee Cooke and Sherman O Dell) start a series of
trials with the encouragement from their teacher Miss Freida J. Riley. Homer Hickam s father John

son s dream. After conquering lots of obstructions, the Rocket Boys won the champion of the national

Evolution Of Merlin Research Paper
Arthurian Literature: The Evolution of Merlin
In all the long history of literature, some fictional characters have loomed above others, written about
again and again by various authors of various eras. Arthurian literature is one area of fiction that has
always been popular for writers to recreate in new versions, and one of the most intriguing characters
of all Arthurian literature is Merlin, the magician/ prophet who aids Arthur early in his reign. As the
Arthurian saga develops, so does Merlin, changing from an aloof, druidical character into a more
human, magical being, though always retaining some traces of his Welsh origins.
Merlin gains his first mention in eight ancient Welsh poems attributed to the ... Show more content on

Here we first meet the character Merlinus ( Merdinus, a more exact Latinization of the original Welsh,
was impractical because of its similarity to the Latin or French word for excrement, surely an
inappropriate name for a great hero). (Bruce) Yet the Merlin of this story is not the great magician of
later works. In his tale, Geoffrey uses not the Latin word magus, which would imply that Merlin was
some sort of sorcerer, but rather the word vates, commonly indicating a poet or, often, a prophet or
seer. (Tatlock) Merlin does exhibit many features of a mystic in Geoffrey s Historia: he uses
clairvoyance in the familiar case, borrowed from Nennius, of Vortigern s vanishing tower; he foretells
Vortigern s death and prophesies to Aurelius and Uther of Arthur s coming reign, also making several
predictions about political events occuring just prior to the publication of the Historia; and he
interprets to Uther Pendragon a portent of the death of the king Aurelius Ambrosius. (Bruce)
Clairvoyance, prophecy, and the interpretation of dreams are all rather shamanistic actions that would
fit Merlin s Welsh character as a druid.
Merlin is not yet a romance magician in Geoffrey s work: the few feats later expanded into mighty
demonstrations of magic are not so in Geoffrey. Merlin disguises Uther as Gorlois for his rendevous
with Igerne using medicamenta, which could include

Stereotyping
Stereotyping In My essay I will discuss stereotyping and different types of stereotyping. I will discuss
how in todays society people are stereotyped in different many ways. In today s society, there are
stereotypes for almost any groups that individuals belong to. At some point in any person s life, they
would have experienced stereotyping. For instance, it is often said that all African Americans are good
at basketball, males are more aggressive than females, Lawyers are deceitful, and the list goes on.
Stereotypes are so wide spread and used so often that they seem to be a natural behaviour for human
beings. (Kassin, Fein, Markus, 2008) So, what is stereotyping? Why do we categorize individuals into
groups? How do stereotypes form? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Racial stereotypes specifically function mostly through propaganda of the media, due to the
unlikelihood of every man travelling to every country, using the technique of misinformation through
movies, shows, and news reports. Egyptians have been stereotyped as desert residents for many years
regardless of the reality and actual state of Egypt as a country. For instance, the stereotypes pointing
that Egyptians are mostly uneducated due to their ignorance of the importance of education is proven
false by studies of trustworthy sources. Among those studies, the one conducted by the American
university in Cairo , Egypt . Al Ahram weekly, a credible newspaper known all across the Arab world,
has posted in its October issue of 1998 the following: According to Sahar El Tawila, the principal
researcher on the team, interviews conducted with girls and boys nationwide show conclusively that
work and marriage were rarely stated by boys and girls respectively as reasons for leaving school.
These may be options for those who have already left school, but they are not the impetus behind their
decision to leave (Al Ahram 1998). Remembering Cosmopolitan Egypt: Literature, Culture, and
Empire By Deborah Starr page 183 Stereotypes can have excessive damage and it can have a very
negative effect on the person in view or as a whole group. Stereotyping is not just another form of
making fun of people, it also encourages rejection

Migraine And Coronary Artery Disease Analysis
Migraines rank as the number 7th leading cause of disability worldwide and affects an approximated
14% of the general population. In other words, a migraine is a headache on steroids. It is a primary
headache disorder characterized by recurrent headaches that range anywhere between moderate to
extremely severe. Typically, the symptoms associated with migraines include a pounding sensation in
one half of the head, nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light, smell, and sound. Before a migraine
comes on, approximately one third of people experience what is called a migraine aura. A migraine

researchers found that the previous findings that CAD and migraine share genetic risk factors. The
gene, PHACTR1, showed significant cross phenotype association in migraine and CAD. The findings
are significant because the results were consistent with present theories that migraine and Coronary
Artery Disease share genetic risk loci and highlight one risk locus in PHACTR1. Researchers can now

I choose for my reseach essay assignment the poem In Reference to Her Children, 23 June, 1659 by
Anne Bradstreet as the earliest Native American writing, and the first in a long line of American poets

Jumbo Loan Limit Analysis
The Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight (OFHEO) establishes limits for conforming loans
on homes. Any home that falls outside of the guidelines cannot be securitized, purchased or
guaranteed by Freddie Mac or Fannie Mae, therefore they are referred to as Houston jumbo loans. The
loan limits established by the OFHEO change annually, thus potential home buyers need to be aware
of current conforming loan limits before purchasing a home. Individuals wishing to purchase a home
that exceeds the conforming loan limit need to looking into non conforming jumbo loans.
Jumbo Loan Limits
Currently, the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight has set the conforming loan limit at
$417,000 for all states within the continental United States. Homes in Alaska and Hawaii may be
purchased at amounts up to $625,500 and still be purchased, securitized or guaranteed by Fannie Mae
or Freddie Mac. In addition, in areas where homes fall into a high priced market, such as in Los
Angeles, the limit is higher, allowing home buyers to purchase a residence as high as $625,500 with a
secured loan. this does vary by area, however, thus home buyers need to learn the limits in their region
to determine how much they may obtain without turning to jumbo home loans. At this time, jumbo

Bob And Regan s Narration In Creating Atmosphere
Here we still get the same information, namely that Jane is Bob and Regan s sister and that she quit
her job. But we get something more as well: We also learn that Regan feels that Jane is the mother s
favorite, which might indicate that Regan is a little jealous. In addition, we learn that the sister s lack
of a job may be an issue for the entire family, precisely because of the close relationship between Jane
and her mother.
That s one level of a scene the level of spoken words. The narration steps in to reveal what the spoken
words conceal.

With reference to acid base balance explore the role of the respiratory system in maintaining blood
pH?
We live and die at the cellular level (Reid, 2011). Homeostasis is crucial for normal cellular function.
Acid base homeostasis is the part of human homeostasis and refers to the balance between the
production and elimination of H+ hydrogen ions (pH) within the body fluids (William, Simpkins,
2001, p.236). Metabolic reactions within the cells often produce a huge excess of H+. Lack of any
mechanism for its excretion would lead H+ levels in body fluids rise quickly to the lethal levels
(Tortora, Grabowski 2006, p.1001); therefore the homeostasis of the right H+ levels is ... Show more

Simple act of breathing also regulates blood s pH.. When the ventilation rate increases, more CO2 will
be excreted, leading to decreased H+ concentration and raise in pH. Contrarily, when the ventilation
rate decreases, less carbon dioxide will get excreted, leading to its accumulation, therefore increase in
H+ and decrease in blood s pH (Tortora, Derrickson, 2009, p.1002).
As we can see, lungs and brain control blood s pH minute by minute.
When the respiratory system fails to control the pH of the blood through ventilation it can lead to
respiratory acidosis or alkalosis.
Respiratory acidosis is an excess of carbonic acid that is caused by conditions resulting in
hypoventilation and CO2 retention. The major effect of acidosis

Strategic Strategy And Risk Assessment
The business dictionary has defined success as the achievement of an objective or pre determined
goal. For this study, being successful will mean strategic alliance partners achieving those objectives
that necessitated their partnership. Uddin Akhter (2011) argued that strategic alliance success requires
cooperative behaviour from all partners. They went further to state that alliance success depends on
several factors such as active involvement in problem s solution, being trustworthy; to create value
combining partners resources and capabilities and persuasion among the partners for cooperation and
coordination of activities in a cooperative behaviour. Thomas (2014) outlined some key success
factors for strategic alliances and are : (1) Strategic Rationale Derive cooperation areas systematically
from business strategy including business case evaluation and risk assessment Engage in partnership
only in case benefit generated and risks involved justify additional complexity compared to alternative
solutions (2) Select partner High strategic and cultural fit between the partners Complementary
capabilities, resources and/or reground footprint Matching product portfolios (3) Negotiate and
establish Have a common vision of partnership, agree on fundamental values and convictions and
have general rules and standards established Share main assumptions and realistic targets of all
partners clearly at the start of a project Define clear decision processes

Multicultural Education Chapter 15 Summary
Chapter fifteen of Multicultural Education is divided into three major sections. These three sections
include recruitment and barriers, recruitment recommendations, and retention issues/difficulties. A
large part of this chapter focuses on the underrepresentation of culturally diverse students in gifted and
advance placement programs. When taking a look at gifted education programs, there is an extreme
underrepresentation of African Americans, Hispanic Americans, and Native Americans in these
programs. Gifted education programs are a need not just a privilege and should not be used as a simple
form of segregation between races or cultures.
In 1954, the United States Supreme Court ruled deliberate school segregation to be unconstitutional. ...

Such supports may include teaching of study skills, test taking skills, time management skills, and
organizational skills. Whether or not a student is gifted is often associated with their achievement and
productivity. It used to be believed that there was no such thing as a gifted underachiever, but over
time that has proven to be false. Gifted students may tend to underachieve when they are unmotivated
or uninterested in school, are procrastinators, do not complete assignments or only do enough to get
by. Gifted underachievers are not as likely to receive or be referred for gifted education or advanced
placement classes. This often occurs due to testing being warped and using a single mode of
assessment, such as focusing only on IQ scores, Rather than using a single mode of assessment,
testing should include both intelligence and achievement data in order to fully determine if a student is
both gifted and achieving, gifted and underachieving, or gifted but weak when it comes to academic or
social skills. This would help significantly when it comes to determining placement decisions for
students as well as help those gifted underachievers become achievers by teaching them study and
language skills that they may currently be lacking.
Recruitment for gifted education programs need to develop a more well rounded philosophy,
significant changes in the deciding

Life Of Pi Expository Essay
To discover is to progress, experience and to transform. As one encounters discovery, an individual
may encounter a transformative experience that most certainly can lead to new perceptions of others
and ourselves. These ideas portrayed about how discoveries are transformative, is effectively
exemplified in the poem The Road not taken by Robert Frost. Which conveys how discoveries can
push one into a wider world full of possibilities, which may transform one immensely introducing new
perceptions of them selves and others. This concept is also shown in Ang lee s film Life of Pi .

This concept is portrayed in the scene where Pi discovers carnivorous island. Don t you see, the island
was carnivorous ? The extreme close up of the tooth symbolically represents the island itself. The
appealing nature of the bud represents the luscious life giving Island during the day, however the
rotten tooth symbolises the carnivorous nature of the island during the nighttime. The toxicness of the
island, forces Pi to continue his discovery for salvation in order to live with humanity, due to the fatal
repercussions of a life lived without humanity. Which conveys how through discoveries ramifications
most certainly arise which as a result alters ones perceptions of themselves and their surroundings in
order to survive which aims to transform one for the better.
Likewise this concept is significantly portrayed in the road not taken, demonstrated in the lines I shall
be telling this with a sigh the first person narration indicates a change in tone, displaying a sense of
regret in which discoveries can introduce as a result of ones choices in embarking a discovery in
which shifts ones perceptions on themselves and the wider world hence transforming them. Therefore
how through discoveries individuals encounter impacts, which may transform one shifting their

  • 2. Paleolithic Era In the Paleolithic Era, humans relied on hunting and gathering to live, living off the resources the environment provided and moving on when resources became scarce. This nomadic lifestyle allowed them to eat a variety of plans and animals, including birds, mammoths, bison, deer, rodents, roots, and berries. Because plants grew, fruited, and matured at different times of the year, gathering remained a fairly constant means to provide food throughout the year. Although small animals and young, ill, wounded, or old animals were easier to hunt successfully, hominids quickly mastered the techniques to hunt large mammals, such as bison, rhinoceros, horses, woolly mammoths, and mastodons, to feed more people. To do so, these hunters had to have high levels of cooperation, intelligence, communication, and abstract reasoning, utilizing disguises, ambushes, camouflage, and traps. At first, hominids lived in natural shelters such as caves and canyons, then in tents and simple huts after discovering fire, developing the necessary tools and technologies to do so. Their nomadic lifestyle discouraged them from building permanent homes, but rather required them to have tents and huts that could be quickly erected and broken down. By the end of the ... It is illustrated as being different variations of capitalism outside the United States; there is the Dutch version, the French version, the British version, as well as the American version. American capitalism implements free market ideology and that makes the U.S. stand out among other nations. Other nations do not dwell on privatization and deregulation nearly as much as the U.S., which is both a major strength and critique of American capitalism. The answer does not have to be socialism or any other economic policy, but reform is necessary to save the lives of millions of Americans currently suffering in poverty. The current economic and political policies are creating class inequality so dramatic that families cannot survive no matter how hard they work. That is not the American Dream children learn in social studies classes year after year. Students in the United States grow up learning about the many accomplishments the country has made over the centuries and that in the United States, the right amount of drive and determination can guarantee success. Coming out of high school and college, young adults learn fast that establishing a life in the United States is difficult without reliable resources to aid them in becoming independent. That is not feasible when the majority of wealth is only available to the upper class. There is not enough wealth to create opportunities for everyone to thrive and those at the bottom suffer for just not being fortunate enough. Secretary of the Army Frank Pace and Secretary of the Air Force Thomas Finletter came up with the first of two agreements that further defined organic aviation within the Army. The agreement s first paragraph echoed this sentiment, insuring, the U.S. Army may employ aircraft necessary for its internal requirements in the conduct of operations on land, without infringement upon the missions assigned to the U.S. Air Force (Wolf, 1987, p. 239). The Army also received a more specific purpose as to how it could incorporate aviation, to expedite and improve ground combat and logistical procedures within the combat zone (Wolf, 1987, p. 239). Insanity And Detachment Of Order Melissa Ranieri Mrs. Sakotic ENG4U1 30 May 2017 Insanity and Detachment of Order Insanity is a field of behaviours characterized by abnormal mental or behavioural patterns. It may be apparent as violations of societal norms, including a person becoming a danger to themselves or others. In modern usage, insanity is mostly seen as a term implying mental instability. Insanity is a recurring theme in Timothy Findley s fictions. Hooker s hint of insanity develops at the beginning of the book, when he goes on to describe the conditions in which he lives in, and goes on to state that his ...house was just on the outskirts of town, unlike the rest of the town s people. All through the house they closed doors and drew shades, they got dead quiet. That is how his father liked it after Jessie came home (Findley 9). This life of isolation has already given Hooker the incentive to detach from society, as he is constantly seen as a character that has trouble with understanding societal ideals. He is seen as a character who has been forced to detach from society when his mother Jessie comes home wanting to live in isolation after the miscarriage of her unborn child; therefore allowing some of his mothers negative behaviours about life to rub off on him. Through the characterization of Hooker, Findley explores the vice potential of such a subject, who becomes the servant of destruction of the social structures that produced him. In Julie Salem Wiseman s essay Insanity Begins at Home: Madness in the Family in Timothy Findley s Last of the Crazy People, she states that Findley creates a Laingian portrait of how a disordered and degenerate social reality of which the Winslows especially Hooker are an extreme representation produces subjects who have not only internalized the social pathology that has formed them but also use the ... (Livescience, 2016) Others have portrayed the great outdoors as this awesome getaway place that is wild enough to have a campfire and necessitate the use of a camper trailer but not so wild that they aren t able to dress in casual businesswear and have perfectly groomed hair. Of course, there is a reason for both of these extremes in advertisements. The range of people who buy outdoor gear is extremely broad. The words in the left corner, written in sharp but not altogether domineering font, are the name of the product (UA Ridge Reaper) and a quick description: Never detected. Always lethal. There s a lot going on in this ad that contributes to the feeling that these guys are silent, undetectable slayers of elk. They are natural born predators whose weapons are extensions of their very bodies. They all have some kind of Under Armor product on, which is clearly a grab at your subconscious. Even if you don t stop and read the ad, you ll associate the UA logo with burly hunters and a pile of elk antlers. If you re big into elk hunting, any product that piles up the antlers is a product that you want to buy. The sepia filter used on the picture almost creates a kind of aged effect, even though all their gear is very modern. This, combined with the fact that they re in Arizona or New Mexico or somewhere in that area, creates a feeling of the wild west. God s Sovereignty Of Eternal Life There are many great points that Moyer brings out as to how we should evangelize. He is clear on many aspects of the Gospel, such as using 1 Corinthians 15 to explain what the Gospel is. He also deals with sin, saving faith, assurance, good works, evangelism in the New Testament, the best way to evangelize, prayer, boldness in evangelism and our duty as believers to evangelize. For the most part it is great stuff. There were some thoughts that were not so positive when I finished reading the book. The good news is that God made a way for man to come back into a right relationship with Him through the atoning death, burial and resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ. How we can come into a right relationship with Christ is by realizing our condition of sin and recognizing that without Christ we will spend eternity in hell apart from God. Oversimplification doesn t make the Gospel clearer instead it gives a muddy picture of who Christ is and what He did. The Gospel is not that God is here for you take Him. The Gospel is we are here for God serve Him. The only way we can serve Him is if we are in right relationship with Him. Moyer s book stresses emphatically that repentance in salvation is only a changing of the mind and not a change of the will or actions. When used in a soteriological context, repentance means to change your mind about whatever is keeping you from trusting Christ and trust Him alone to save you. [2] Moyer also feels that repentance is not necessary for the sharing of the Gospel to an unbeliever A comfort we derive from studying repentance is recognizing that we need not apologize for not using the word repentance in evangelistic presentations. • 26. Women s Subjectivity in Arabian Nights by Judith Grossman... Women s Subjectivity in Arabian Nights by Judith Grossman Judith Grossman wrote an article concerning women s subjectivity in Arabian Nights. The article brought out many points to which I had never given thought. As I read the novel, I saw that women were considered evil and bad, but I didn t think much more of it. After reading Grossman s article I must say I agree with many of the thoughts expressed. She focuses on the fact that women are considered to be evil, but it is just because their true self has never had a chance to be free. Women are locked into this reciprocal cycle of deceit and unfaithfulness, only after being oppressed by their husbands or keepers, as in the case of the Jinnee and the maiden. Grossman s article ... The maiden says, But I have lain under as many men as I ve desired, and this wretched jinnee doesn t realize that destiny cannot be averted or hindered by anything and that whatever a woman wants, she will get, no matter how much a man might try to prevent it.(11) It is easy to see that she is rebelling in her own way against the rules set forth by the jinnee and all of mankind. She has a deep hatred towards men, and she makes herself feel better by dominating strange men and threatening them with the loss of their lives. Although she cannot actually kill them her captor the jinnee, will without a second thought. Though she is dominated by the jinnee, she has a power over the men she finds. This evens out the balance of power a little between the jinnee and the maiden. Women are made out to be awful, horrible creatures from which men should take cover. In Arabian Nights there are many passages in which women are negatively portrayed. For example, This only proves that all women will make cuckolds out of their husbands when given the chance...No man in this world is safe from the malice of women! (6) This is only one of many blatant sexist remarks in this text. • 29. Literary Analysis Of Miss Brill In the short story Miss Brill an elderly woman sits in a park, romanticizing about all the possible scenarios that are taking place around her. This story has many central themes, the main one, of course, being perception. Miss Brill is a very perceptive woman, which is continuously showcased by her being able to pick up on, and closely observe, the different narratives transpiring in the park. Miss Brill was able to see the humour in these performances , however, ironically, she failed to see that she herself was the subject of a joke. Through continuously romanticizing reality, and focusing only on one s own point of view, one runs the risk of becoming oblivious to the way others view one s self. Aforementioned, Miss Brill, an elderly woman, sits in a park within walking distance of her residence, and observes. That is essentially the sum of the story, the shortened version. This is because she is likely very lonely, as shown by the author, literally in the name, Miss Brill. Not Ms. Brill, not Mrs. Brill, but Miss, which is done to emphasize that she is unmarried. The purpose of this is to point out that she doesn t have anyone of significance in her life and that she is probably lonely. This is important because it points out why someone, in their right mind, would want to sit around a park all day and watch people. Except she doesn t just watch them, she dreams up narratives and ponders the possible conversations they re having, and gives them a role to fill in her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was painted in 1976, originally Audrey Flack took a picture and then used it as the basis for this painting. Queen is a painting of box that is full of special mementos. It has features such as a quarter of an open orange, a rose, a pocket watch, a queen playing card, a locket of an older and a younger woman, lip balm, perfume, a chess piece, blush, and a chain necklace with the letter F on it. The painting almost looks like a vanity drawer or a keepsake drawer. However, realizing the fruits and flower in the painting I understood it to be a collection of the artist s memories as opposed to a drawer. Audrey Flack was demonstrating the many things that were significant to her while aging. Queen signifies the fight against time. It shows that no matter what possessions you retain it will not keep you young. No one can win the battle against time. I am going to describe every element in the painting while analyzing every element as well. I will show why I believe the objects and elements in the painting point towards my thesis of how the Queen is expressing a fight against time. First off, the games. The card of queen and the chess piece are both mementos from the artist s childhood, showing she grew up playing games. Something significant about the queen playing card is its femininity. William Levitt was a main promoter of suburban living, he was contracted by the federal government during the war to quickly build housing for military personnel; Levitt applied the techniques of mass production to construction. In 1947, he set out to erect the largest planned living community in the United States on farmland he had purchased on Long Island, New York. Each house had two bedrooms, one bathroom, and no basement. The kitchen was situated near the back of the house so mothers could keep an eye on their children in the backyard. Within one year, Levitt was building 36 houses per day. His assembly line approach made the houses extremely affordable. At first, the homes were available only to veterans. Eventually, though, Levittown, was open to others as well. By 1960, more Americans lived in suburbs than in cities; because few new homes were built during the war years, the country faced a housing shortage. Minoja (2012) found that until 1824, the area now occupied by Santa Marta settlement is part of a farm owned by Francisco Jose Leite, Baron of Vassouras. In 1824 the land then passed to a second owner of the farm to the Baron of Macaubas. In 1920 began the growth of the nearby suburb of Copacabana and Botafogo, causing large amounts of development and thus increasing the need for workers. On Santa Marta hill, due to the construction of Santo Inacio church and college, many people migrated for the economic opportunities offered by the project and for the land in which to erect houses offered by the priests. This project lasted almost 30 years. The priest permitted the workers to erect their houses on Santa Marta hill, marking the beginning of this settlement. Evolution Of Merlin Research Paper Arthurian Literature: The Evolution of Merlin In all the long history of literature, some fictional characters have loomed above others, written about again and again by various authors of various eras. Arthurian literature is one area of fiction that has always been popular for writers to recreate in new versions, and one of the most intriguing characters of all Arthurian literature is Merlin, the magician/ prophet who aids Arthur early in his reign. As the Arthurian saga develops, so does Merlin, changing from an aloof, druidical character into a more human, magical being, though always retaining some traces of his Welsh origins. Here we first meet the character Merlinus ( Merdinus, a more exact Latinization of the original Welsh, was impractical because of its similarity to the Latin or French word for excrement, surely an inappropriate name for a great hero). (Bruce) Yet the Merlin of this story is not the great magician of later works. In his tale, Geoffrey uses not the Latin word magus, which would imply that Merlin was some sort of sorcerer, but rather the word vates, commonly indicating a poet or, often, a prophet or seer. (Tatlock) Merlin does exhibit many features of a mystic in Geoffrey s Historia: he uses clairvoyance in the familiar case, borrowed from Nennius, of Vortigern s vanishing tower; he foretells Vortigern s death and prophesies to Aurelius and Uther of Arthur s coming reign, also making several predictions about political events occuring just prior to the publication of the Historia; and he interprets to Uther Pendragon a portent of the death of the king Aurelius Ambrosius. (Bruce) Clairvoyance, prophecy, and the interpretation of dreams are all rather shamanistic actions that would fit Merlin s Welsh character as a druid. Merlin is not yet a romance magician in Geoffrey s work: the few feats later expanded into mighty demonstrations of magic are not so in Geoffrey. Merlin disguises Uther as Gorlois for his rendevous with Igerne using medicamenta, which could include ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In today s society, there are stereotypes for almost any groups that individuals belong to. At some point in any person s life, they would have experienced stereotyping. For instance, it is often said that all African Americans are good at basketball, males are more aggressive than females, Lawyers are deceitful, and the list goes on. With reference to acid base balance explore the role of the respiratory system in maintaining blood pH? We live and die at the cellular level (Reid, 2011). Homeostasis is crucial for normal cellular function. Acid base homeostasis is the part of human homeostasis and refers to the balance between the production and elimination of H+ hydrogen ions (pH) within the body fluids (William, Simpkins, 2001, p.236). Metabolic reactions within the cells often produce a huge excess of H+. Lack of any mechanism for its excretion would lead H+ levels in body fluids rise quickly to the lethal levels (Tortora, Grabowski 2006, p.1001); therefore the homeostasis of the right H+ levels is ... • 50. Simple act of breathing also regulates blood s pH.. When the ventilation rate increases, more CO2 will be excreted, leading to decreased H+ concentration and raise in pH. Contrarily, when the ventilation rate decreases, less carbon dioxide will get excreted, leading to its accumulation, therefore increase in H+ and decrease in blood s pH (Tortora, Derrickson, 2009, p.1002). As we can see, lungs and brain control blood s pH minute by minute. When the respiratory system fails to control the pH of the blood through ventilation it can lead to respiratory acidosis or alkalosis. Respiratory acidosis is an excess of carbonic acid that is caused by conditions resulting in hypoventilation and CO2 retention. The major effect of acidosis ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When taking a look at gifted education programs, there is an extreme underrepresentation of African Americans, Hispanic Americans, and Native Americans in these programs. Whether or not a student is gifted is often associated with their achievement and productivity. It used to be believed that there was no such thing as a gifted underachiever, but over time that has proven to be false. Gifted students may tend to underachieve when they are unmotivated or uninterested in school, are procrastinators, do not complete assignments or only do enough to get by. Gifted underachievers are not as likely to receive or be referred for gifted education or advanced placement classes. This often occurs due to testing being warped and using a single mode of assessment, such as focusing only on IQ scores, Rather than using a single mode of assessment, testing should include both intelligence and achievement data in order to fully determine if a student is both gifted and achieving, gifted and underachieving, or gifted but weak when it comes to academic or social skills. This would help significantly when it comes to determining placement decisions for students as well as help those gifted underachievers become achievers by teaching them study and language skills that they may currently be lacking. Which conveys how discoveries can push one into a wider world full of possibilities, which may transform one immensely introducing new perceptions of them selves and others.
