How Concentration Of A Solute Affect The Rate Of Osmosis
Biology
How Does the Concentration of a Solute Affect the Rate of Osmosis
BY: Kevin Liu, Prabhat Aluri, Sriram Thothathri, Edward An
Question:
How does the concentration of a solute affect the rate of osmosis?
Hypothesis:
The concentration of a solute affects the rate of osmosis over time, in a way where, the higher the
concentration of a solute, the faster the rate of osmosis. This happens because, in a semi permeable
membrane the water is the only through that can move through. In this case our solute is sugar, and
sugar cannot fit through the pores in the membrane. When there is more sugar the difference in
concentration is greater. That difference makes all the molecules want to move faster. That results in
osmotic pressure being built. The sugar tries to get through the membrane, but the pores don t
accommodate it. That means that the water can only go through less pores because more sugar is
blocking the pores. The water that goes through the few pores, ends up clumping up near the open
pores and, rushes into the membrane faster. That results in the rate of osmosis being faster.
Procedure:
1. Take a long strand of dialysis tubing, and split the tubing into nine 3 inch pieces.
2. Fill a flask with pure water (0% sugar), another with 0.2M water, another flask with 0.4 M water,
and another flask with 0.8M water.
3. In addition, fill a beaker with pure water.
4. Take a piece of dialysis(as cut earlier), find the mass of the dialysis, and the zero out the scale on

Analysis Of The Toronto Eaton Center By Ernst Cassirer
Architecture matters, it is omnipresence; we use and encounter it on a daily basis, but most often one
tends to focus on the building s function and the way it looks. Architecture is more than mere
buildings that serve its function to meet our own human needs; it has a lot more to offer. Architecture
matters because it can become a symbol that represents something that has a deeper meaning as well
as an ultimate representation of a culture. Architecture is a powerful icon because it symbolizes
experience that we as a community share, which is far beyond what other forms art can offer.
Ernst Cassirer is a German philosopher who believes in the notion that man feel the need to provide
meaning to given input . He believes that it has always ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
ROM to me also symbolize urbanization and our current civilization as a whole. It first opened to the
public on March 19, 1914 originally having five different museums, which includes the Royal Ontario
Museum for Archeology, Paleontology, Mineralogy, Zoology, and Geology. The original building was
created using yellow bricks and it was designed by Toronto based architects Darling and Pearson and
it was incorporated with various architectural motifs from different cultures. In 2011, ROM announced
their expansion plan called Renaissance ROM, a plan to transform the museum, which was designed
by Daniel Libeskind. The project received $60 million of budget in total and it opened on the year of
2007. To me the old yellow brick building represent the old civilization and the new additional
building known as the Crystal represent the current civilization. It represents how we advanced as a
society in terms of scientific and technological innovations. The materials between the two buildings
are very different, which again highlights the progression of our civilization over time with the
evolution in technology and architecture. Architecture matters because they often symbolize
something that goes beyond being just a mere object. They symbolize something that has a deeper
meaning, something that is special to us. They often covey emotions

The Killer Angels Quotes
For this summer, I decided to read The Killer Angels by Michael Shaara. The book took place during
Civil War times and went into good detail on what happened during the battles at Gettysburg. The first
quote that I found interesting was from the Union Colonel Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain. The fact of
slavery upon this incredibly beautiful new clean earth was appalling, but more even than that was the
horror of old Europe, the curse of nobility, which the South was transplanting to new soil (Shaara 27).
This quote was significant because it described the feelings of the average Union soldier towards
slavery. The Union fought to end slavery because as shown by people like Chamberlain, they believed
that slavery was against a man s good nature and did not want it to effect the new land of the United
States. The second quote that I found significant was another quote from Chamberlain on how he
describes a young black man who was injured from escaping his slave master. The man was really
very black. Chamberlain felt an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
General Longstreet felt that the plan Lee formed would ultimately fail and cause a major loss to the
Union Army. He brought it to Lee s attention only once, but Lee told Longstreet with the help of him
and other strong generals including Pettigrew, Trimble, Pickett, and Armistead, they could cut the
Union army in half and force them to retreat. Unlike Longstreet, Lee never looked at the consequences
of pulling this risky attack. Longstreet, feeling guilty for trying to stop Lee s overconfidence, decides
to compromise and go along with Lee s plan since he has a sacred bond with him. Eventually,
Longstreet s predictions came true and the strategy was a failure. Despite the fatal casualties to
Longstreet s fellow Generals, he couldn t bare himself to turn against

Structure And Behaviour Of An Enterprise Architecture
Enterprise Architecture
There are a number of definitions that exist of Enterprise Architecture. An enterprise is a collaborative
collection of sub organizations with a shared objective. Architecture is a description of the structure
and behaviour of a system. Therefore enterprise architecture is a documentation describing the
structure and behaviour of an enterprise including its information systems. There is need for flexibility
and resilience in Enterprise Architecture. A lot depends on what sort of a framework you can use.
Some popular frameworks include TOGAF of The Open Group and smaller ones like Zackman.
Within the framework there is the content which includes structure and metamodel.
The framework also contains the activities which need to occur. The framework also helps with the
description of an organization, that is, its people and the different roles that are involved. Large
enterprises can be very complex therefore; there is need for ways in which these complexities can be
introduced. Segmenting is one way that helps reduce the complexity like in governments where there
are many agencies. Another way of breaking down these complex systems is by looking at different
domains. Typically, there are four main domains. The first domain is the business architecture, that is,
why the business exists. It covers things like business objectives, strategic thinking and goals; also it
then covers what capabilities the business has, what processes, what functions, what

Perry Smith Character Analysis
Perry Smith longed for affection from his father and he never received it. This created father issues
that are displayed throughout Perry s life. Perry s actions alluded to his child like behavior in his heart.
Perry looked up to his father, but never received that attention he need at a young age, from this Perry
had been left feeling alone. Throughout Perry s feel tried to fill the void his father left in his heat, with
other important men in his life. Perry s abandonment issues stemmed from the lack of a genuine
relationship with his father; which forced him to seek attention from male figures present in his life.
Perry Smith is still a child at heart. He fantasizes about treasure hunts and finding gold, as if he is still
a little kid. When Perry had been with Dick he talked about a treasure map he wanted to use after they
concluded their murder, This is authentic. I ve got a map. I ve got the whole history. (100). Perry is
always trying to make up for his lost childhood, he never got to fantasize as a child, so this desire is
still present in this adult life. Perry never felt that he was properly loved as a child. Like most children
Perry needed to be loved on by a parent or parental figure, sadly Perry never revived the love and the
effects can still be seen throughout his life. He never got the encouragement that most kids receive.
Perry states, I never got any encouragement from him [Perry s Father] or anybody else. (133). Sense

When comparing the film with different texts that we have read, Death was served as a gateway to the
other realms. For example, in Inanna: Queen of Heaven and Earth , Inanna goes to the underworld to
visit her sister, Queen Ereshkigal. The Queen who despises Inanna has her servants torture her as she
goes through each layer. After going through a series of gates in the underworld, she was stripped off
each part of her clothes one by one and was later chained and tortured in hell from the evil creatures
that dwell underneath in the mountain. In each gate, not only were different punishments carried out
but Inanna was walking through darkness and seeing less of the light. When relating to the film, the

Taliban Ideology
Taliban as an ideology is worst. This is simply a different story than the people in the West are
apprehending it.
These are Taliban who come from Pashtun ethnicity. They ve been fighting for recognition as an

What Are The Statistics Of Gender And Racial Differences...
Understanding statistics of gender and racial differences in advertising
Jean Roxanne Santa Cruz
University of Houston Downtown
Introduction Statistics is important in understanding the information and communicating findings to
one another (Healey, 2015). I never paid much attention to statistics before because math has always
been my least favorite subject. I was very hesitant in taking this course but many people assured me
that I could succeed and that statistics is far more interesting than any mathematical course I will ever
take. Statistics is so relevant; the more I am noticing it because of knowledge I have obtained from
this course. For example, the article I will be discussing defines the differences of gender and race
within advertising (Plous Neptune, 1997). Statistics can be used to analyze the amount of
advertisements printed, the different gender and race of models, the year and percentage amount of
gender and race bias occurs, the percentages of the exposure different gender and race models etc. I
can t say that I completely understand statistics but I very much enjoyed this course and when I read
statistical information, I at least can analyze the information given rather than just passing off random
numbers. We often need a strong proof and thoughtfully analyzed data to build and enhance our theory
and understanding of something, which is what statistics provides to make sense of the data (Healey,
2015).

Bring Your Dog To Work Case Study
I support the Bring Your Dog to Work program, and will introduce a new idea to evolve with the

buildings, and more high rise apartment complexes being built to house the technology industry s
employees; in areas such as San Francisco, CA. These young residents are here for many reasons, one
is to be in the center of technological advancement and to persue the american dream of innovation.
And there are some very important friends along with them on their journey, dogs. In the millenial age
group, it is becoming more popular to own a dog versus having a child and/or family, and to focus on
career or personal growth. So humans adopt a dog. On a personal

Opportunities of practicing English and exposure in English increase when English is adopted in

the usage of English in business is particularly significant in Hong Kong where international

My Papa s Waltz Analysis Essay
My Papa s Waltz is a short poem written by a man by the name of Theodore Roethke. The poem is
narrated to us by a young boy, presumably similar to Roethke himself, and is directed towards the
young boy s father. This poem talks about his father s over use of the substance alcohol, particularly
whiskey, and some of the actions the father does in front of the young boy while he is intoxicated. The
tone of the poem is sort of dark and critical, understandably. Each line holds a particular type of
meaning and together tells a little story. The title of the poem, My Papa s Waltz, can suggest that the
poem is narrated by the father s son. At the beginning of the poem Roethke writes, The whiskey on
your breath / Could make a small boy dizzy (1 2). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In line thirteen the use of the word beat may not be so literal towards physical actions. It could easily
be referring to a musical type of beat, instead of a physical beating, since the father and son are
dancing after all. The word beat itself, as well as line fourteen, can remind the reader that the father is
still a tough man, despite being silly and dancing the Waltz with his young son. The last two lines of
the poem state: Then waltzed me off to bed / Still clinging to your shirt (15 16). The father has now
decided to end the dance by taking his son on to bed, and it could possibly be assumed the only reason
they danced to begin with was to tire the young boy out a little so he could sleep well that night. By
the end, the boy is still clinging onto his father s shirt. Even after the boy had been scraped up a little
during the dance, he is still clinging onto the shirt. The young boy could either be resisting being put
to bed, or he is still holding onto his father because he loves him, even after

Examples Of Differing Viewpoints
Differing Viewpoints The United States has been a powerful country for centuries, and an aspect of
life that has not changed through the years, are differing opinions on all issues. One thing that
Americans can agree on, is the need for volunteers to keep our country running. The flexibility in the
Volunteer Protection Act allows states to opt out of coverage only if that state should enact a more
explicit act citing the federal law. Before the federal act was signed into law in June of 1997, many
states already had tort laws in place, protecting volunteers in general from litigation. Utah was a state
that opted out of the act, and currently enforces their own volunteer protection. Along with the Utah
statute protecting volunteers, it also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A form of prevention, rather than protection, was already in place, classifying the state as providing no
immunity. Initiated by Oregon s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in 1982, the
Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) is a compliance program that promotes effective safety and
health management in workplaces. Similar to the federal Volunteer Protection Act, Oregon s Volunteer
Protection Program recognizes that enforcement of safety regulations and structured approaches by
these organizations will help achieve the goal of safer practices. Rather than providing protection
directly to volunteers and employees, the Volunteer Protection Program promotes safety management
programs which is considered to OSHA as the best form of protection. The program has been
described as a roadmap, focusing on key areas necessary for a safety and health program (Oregon
OSHA, 2007). In 2007, Michael Wood, administrator of Oregon OSHA, states that The VPP

Rather than focusing on cutting jobs, they focused on reducing expenses and cutting back on
unnecessary items. The terrorist attacks are only one of the causes of crisis in the industry because
there are several issues that threaten the industry. One that was mentioned earlier gas prices. Labor
disputes are a factor as well. You may say that the airline industry has hit an extremely bad era. The
changes that these airlines are being driven to make will be very different from the way it used to be.
As most people know, the government has had much in bailing out business and the transformation
that some have undergone and the airline industry is no exception. The government has a major
influence on the restructuring of the industry and the air transportation system in general. To combat
the escalating expenses of enhanced security and diminishing supply demand, employee layoffs and
service trimming were the first areas to see cutbacks. This is certainly a competitive industry with new
companies surfacing and others failing. The restructuring will definitely influence the airline industry
s inclination concerning the development of both domestic and international service. It has been hard
for this industry to keep revenue up and cover all the rising expenses, which makes for an obstruction
in growth and prosperity. Gas prices play a massive key role in the struggle of this industry. At one

The Most Famous Guitar Players For Find Success At Fame
One of the more famous guitar players to find success at FAME was Duane Allman. In September of

Exploring the Efficacy of International Organizations in...
The emergence of international organizations and international norms has undoubtedly changed the
way states exercise power in international politics. On the one hand, international organizations may
have a large influence over the behavior of states by spreading international norms, such as self
determination, that then help shape foreign policy. They could also be viewed as a form of global
governance that ameliorates nationalistic aggression. On the other hand, international organizations
could be seen as simply a reflection of the existing balance of power within an anarchic, self help
system; international norms simply a convenient ideological rhetoric for a state to utilize in order to
legitimize and justify their national interests. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Keohane argues, under a bipolar structure, relative gains become the most apparent and easily
calculated, forcing cooperation to a minimum. However, Keohane stresses, this does not by any means
undermine prospects for cooperation in general (Keohane, Mitigation, p. 155). The UN does little to
constrain Russia s behavior and to influence the outcome becauase of its wide and diverse
membership and the lack of common interests between the key decision makers the Security Council.
In essence, the UN takes on the same bilateral nature of its members, resulting in indecisive action.
Russia s veto of the UN resolution that declared Crimea illegal on March 15 is a clear example of this.
As realists would say, the UN as an international organization is simply another measure of national
sovereignty: the Organization is based on the principle of sovereign equality (Charter of the United
Nations, Chapter I Article II). No state is willing to make a decision that will undermine its own
sovereignty. However, NATO and the EU, organizations that comprise of fewer members who share
deeper political interests and ideologies, become central actors themselves and are not just an
institutional form of the balance of powers. As Steven Erlanger writes in The New York Times, the
Crimea crisis has suddenly revived the North Atlantic Treat Organization s central role as a

Globalization Is Not Being Exploited By Capitalists Essay
At one time, Joan Robinson, a British economist had said, There is only one thing that is worse than
being exploited by capitalists. And that is not being exploited by capitalists (Nayyar 2006, 4). The
process of globalization has changed the ways of human interaction and the flow of goods and
services, people, information and ideas creating an interconnected single community that is
continuously uniting many nations across borders. The emergence of easier accessibility to consumers
needs has skyrocketed the production and consumption of goods and services. With a greater demand
comes greater production and the twenty first century capitalist economies have changed patterns of
free trade, rely on commodities and resources to be able to make profit and be integrated into the open
market, benefitting from further economic growth. This change in trade patterns amongst different
markets are based on product specialization and the division of labour to create employment
opportunities, income and surplus benefits are extended to other parts of the globe. These patterns of
trade encourage greater competition between markets and low cost goods and services for consumers
(Ebeling 2004, 3). However, the process of globalization has created two different worlds of a winner
and a loser; the included and the excluded. Comparing these two worlds, one of them consists of

Power Grid Systems ( Essp 2015 )
Electricity Subsector What was once a novelty; energy is now the ultimate necessity for any modern

scenario of one of the three power grids failing would cause chaos to that area but would be

I have been staff on many servers. Some of them were not as big as the other. I have owned my own
server and have been staff on another. I will list my experience in order from first server to last server:
Enjoicraft Enjoicraft was the first server I was ever staff on. I was pretty young when I first joined and
I was pretty bad at being a staff. However, I managed to get up to Mod+ at the end. I was staff a long
side with my cousin AimbotDotEXE. He was admin however. I got demoted at the end because I went
on vacation with out telling the owner, so he thought I was very inactive. It was a mistake made from
a rookie staff member. I was staff for around 1 2 months.

the player base was ranging for 70 80 players. My server host wasn t very good, as it was

left. We had to shut down our server soon, since the server was lacking in funds because of this. I do
not want to see this server to become like my server. Not saying that the host is bad, however I want
the server to be hacker free. I have prevented the very little hackers on my server from cheating, and I

African American History
Glory Essay
The film Glory by Edward Zwick is one of the most well known films of all time. The film itself is
solely based upon the first formal unit of the Union Army during the American Civil War which
consist of all African American men. They were essentially the very first unit of United States Colored
Troops. They were formally known for their courageous attempts to and actions at Fort Wagner in
1863. The film is set in many different locations such as New York, Maryland, South Carolina and
Massachusetts. In each of these different locations events took place that shaped our history. For
example on November twenty seventh of 1862 Robert Shaw started to train soldiers. July eighteenth
1863 the Colonel Shaw and his troops attempted to take Fort Wagner, which didn t succeed.
The film has many characters that actually made a difference in history. Four major characters were
Colonel Robert Gould Shaw, Pvt. Trip, Sgt. Maj. John Rawlins and Cpl. Thomas Searles. Colonel
Shaw served as the Commander of the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. He also serves as great
leader to his troops. Pvt. Trip was a soldier of the 54th Regiment. Seen to other soldiers as a smart
mouth trouble maker because of his background. Sgt. Maj. John Rawlins started as a grave digger for
wars then moved up to a non commissioned officer. After volunteering for the 54th regiment he was
promoted by Major Cabot Forbes. He had to

An ally is someone who helps you get through a tough time and has your back for a long time. Allies

Analysis Of Lose Your Mother
Often the most important trait a person can posses is to be aware of their surroundings. If someone is
aware of their surroundings on a physical, mental and emotional level, they have the power to fully
immerse themselves in their experience, without hesitation or limitation. In Saidiya Hartman s memoir
Lose Your Mother, the reader is presented with an orator who lacks complete awareness of their
surroundings, which later translates to a lack of self awareness, while in both Jamaica Kincaid s and
Caryl Phillips respective memoirs the reader is presented with authors who are fully aware of their
surroundings and thus self aware as well. Immediately the reader is made aware that Hartman is
physically aware of her surroundings in Ghana, I chose Ghana because it possessed more dungeons,
prisons and slave pens than any other country in West Africa.. (Hartman 7). Hartman is physically
aware of her purpose in Ghana: she is here because it contains the most physical remnants of the slave
trade than most other countries in West Africa. Hartman know where she will travel while in Ghana,
Elmina, Salaga, Gwolu, and she knows she will find the physical remnants of the slave trade in these
places: slave forts, markets, roads and castles. Hartman finds these physical remains of slavery in
Elmina, the castle that once held slaves before they entered the middle passage, Salaga, the largest
slave market, and Gwolu, the wall that was used to keep slave traders away. Both Kincaid in her
memoir A Small Place and Phillips in his memoir The Atlantic Sound are similar to Hartman in this
way, as both possess intense awareness of their physical surroundings. Kincaids memoir, although
dealing with Antigua and not Ghana, contains awareness from the perspective of a native, Antigua is
beautiful. Antigua is too beautiful. Sometimes the beauty of it seems unreal (Kincaid 76). Kincaid
additionally addresses the physical remnants of slavery in Antigua, like Hartman, In the Antigua that I
knew we lived on a street named after a maritime criminal Horatio Nelson...In the middle of High
Street was the Barclays Bank... [who] were slave traders (Kincaid 24 26). Phillips also provides
insight to the tangible pieces of slavery, when discussing

Stereotypes Of African American Filmmakers And Directors
Stereotypes of African Americans in Tyler Perry Films
Nautica C. Hereford
Wright State University Abstract
This paper highlights the negative stereotypes of African Americans that are reinforced in Tyler Perry
s films. The misrepresentation of African Americans in the media has become normalized, meaning
African Americans in stereotypical roles have become accepted (Tosi, 2011). The misrepresentation of
African Americans in Perry s films can be traced back to his cruel upbringing. This paper discusses
the issues of having common stereotypes portrayed in Perry s film. In addition, this paper utilizes Eric
Festinger s social comparison theory to explain the potential consequences of negatively stereotyping
African Americans. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The negative stereotypes depicted by Tyler Perry, a successful African American male, sends a
message to his viewers. In addition, the motives behind Perry s support of stereotypes in his films are
inspired by personal traumatic experiences from his childhood and young adulthood.
Perry as an Individual Some of the extreme scenes in Tyler Perry s films can be traced back to his
childhood. Perry was born in a household that was not only abusive, but unstable. His father was a
verbally and physically abusive alcoholic who worked in construction. Perry revealed his father s
abusive ways in an interview stating his drunken father, got the vacuum cleaner extension cord and
trapped me in a room and beat me until the skin was coming off my back. Perry later found out that
the man who always abused him was not his biological father. His mother s one attempt to leave her
abusive husband failed when he reported the car stolen. She along with other family members went to
jail until the husband bailed them out. Perry s father was not the only abuser in his life, His
grandmother abused him as well. She thought he had germs on him and one day decided to kill those
germs by bathing him in in ammonia His upbringing was so difficult that he attempted suicide to
escape his brokenness. Perry regained control of his life by striking out on his own and pouring his
past pain into writing (Owoseje, 2014). Viewers unaware of

Why Is Jfk Assassination Wrong
JFK assassination... is false The JFK assassination is said to be done by only one person, but this essay
will tell you that it is wrong. It is said the Oswald is the sole sniper that killed the president. Well,
Oswald did shot the gun, but he did not kill the President, someone else worked with Oswald on this
assassination. In this court case, Oswald and Oswald alone was proven guilty for killing the President.
Oswald had gotten killed later from a gunshot before he went to prison. In the 1963 controversial
court case of JFK assassination, the guilty verdict incorrectly prosecuted only Lee Harvey Oswald
because of the direction of the bullet, the Grassy Knoll, and the CIA involvement. Oswald did shoot

First, CIA helped him get the job where he shot JFK. Former CIA friends of Oswald gave him the job
where he shot the president just three weeks before it all happened, (Daily Mail). Oswald got help
from the CIA. The CIA gave him a perfect spot to shoot the president. If he didn t get that job, then
JFK wouldn t have gotten shot. Next, a former CIA agent confessed to the inside job. A good quote
about this is, You kill the president, and your cover is security, and if the sniper or snipers who kill the
president are hidden in with the guys who are supposed to protect him, guys who have no knowledge
of this plot... It makes a lot of sense, (DailyMail) This goes back to the Grassy Knoll. He is talking
about the other people and how they shot JFK, but didn t get caught because they are part of the team
that is tasked to finding the murderer. That is why no one caught the other shooter because he is part
of the law. Lastly, the CIA has a special tactic. This tactic is when you have different snipers at
different locations so it catches people in a crossfire in more than one direction, (DailyMail). The
tactic that they used in the JFK assassination is one that the CIA has been using for years. It s a simple
tactic, you shoot the suspect from different angles so they can t find cover. Oswald shot the first shot
and hit JFK in the chest and then the second sniper dealt the killing blow. The CIA was definitely

Glass Castle
As I read the Glass Castle, the way Rose Mary behaves, thinks and feels vary greatly and differently
throughout the memoir. The immediate question that pops up in my mind is to ask whether Rose Mary
carries some sort of mental illness. Fortunately, given the hints and traits that are relevant to why Rose
Mary lives like that in the memoir, we, the readers, are able to make some diagnosis and assumptions
on the kind of mental illness she may carry. To illustrate, one distinctive example is when Rose Mary
blames Jeannette for having the idea to accept welfare. Once you go on welfare, it changes you. Even
if you get off welfare, you never escape the stigma that you were a charity case. (188). In my opinion,
Rose Mary is being nonsense and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With all these being said, it s most likely that Rose Mary carries manic depression since she
potentially has something wrong with her ways of thinking and behaving. By definition, manic
depression is otherwise known as bipolar disorder in modern times. It is a brain disorder that causes
unusual shifts in mood, energy, behavior, thinking and the ability to carry out day to day tasks.
(Introduction: Bipolar Disorder) This overall definition clearly supports the argument that Rose Mary
carries bipolar disorder. Often times in the memoir, Rose Mary changes her mind and mood about
doing something very quickly without any foreshadow. This brief explanation of bipolar disorder
shows that Rose Mary possesses most of the traits of having bipolar disorder. From a greater
perspective, bipolar disorder has two very distinctive phases the manic phase and depressive phase.
During a manic phase, patients are often jumping quickly from one idea to the next (Melinda and
Jeanne), feeling energetic and having unrealistic beliefs about one s abilities or powers (Melinda and
Jeanne); during a depressive phase, patients are often feeling hopeless, sad, empty (Melinda and
Jeanne) or irritable and unable to

Plastic Bags: Replace, Reuse or Recycle

Plastic Bags: Replace, Reuse or Recycle
Plastic bags are an everyday part of our lives, we use them without thought and often discard them in
the trash once they are no longer needed. If you looked in your kitchen in the pantry or under the
kitchen sink; you would probably find a significant number of plastic bags stored there. We rarely stop
to think about what the proper way to dispose of a plastic bag would be or if there is a proper way to
achieve this. Just take a moment to reflect about how much plastic based products are a vital part of
our everyday lives. Then ask yourselves, what we as a community, can do to explore methods for the
disposal of plastics bags. One option that comes to mind includes contacting your local county
representatives to ask about increased recycling or proper disposal opportunities for plastic bags. If
recycling plastic bags in your local area is too cost prohibitive, then perhaps there should be a
discussion on alternative options the plastic bag.
Many people take for granted that plastic bags are recyclable when they are not a commonly
acceptable recyclable material. For instance, in Fairfax County, Virginia which is a part of the
Washington D.C. Metropolitan area and has a current population of over 1 million people, there are
currently no recycling facilities within the county that accept plastic bags for processing. Consider for
a moment how

Effects Of Pollution On The Environment
Pollution Affects the Environment
Every day, millions of humans, plants, and animals are affected by pollution. Cancer, disease, and
kidney failure are just some of the rapidly increasing effects. Pollution is a growing concern that is
gradually changing the way the environment and ecosystem function. With thousands of foreign and
natural contaminants being pumped into the environment every day, serious action will need to be
taken to reverse the life threatening effects of pollution. Although, some could argue that pollution is
mostly caused by natural chemicals; the number one leading cause of pollution is human activity. With
the continued growth of human activity and modern production, pollution has reached its highest
levels; causing an increase in environmental and health related issues. Most people are unaware of the
increasing pollution levels in the environment. The main reason is that many overlook the subject
since most pollution is not visible. Unfortunately, although pollution is often unseen, it s effects are
very present and highly dangerous. On average, fifty thousand people die each year due to pollution in
America (Rinkesh). Approximately six million people worldwide will die from pollution each year by
2050 (Rinkesh). That is a large quantity of deaths due to something unseen. Many skeptics believe that
pollution is not harmful and the health related issues are coincidences, but that is not true. Chemicals
can be poisonous. We don t drink chemicals so why would we want to breathe it? Chemical
production is the highest it has ever been; causing extreme amounts of contamination and damage
(World Wild Life). Pollution cannot continue to be overlooked. The related health and environmental
risks are too high and too dangerous. If it keeps going unnoticed, the pollution levels will increase,
and the death toll will as well. Pollution levels are getting higher each year (World Wild Life). The
biggest reason is that toxic chemicals pour out of cars, chemical plants, and factories every day (World
Wild Life). Although many chemicals are not dangerous; most are. In fact, some chemicals can even
travel great distances by air or accumulate in the bodies of animals and humans (World Wild Life).

The Controversy Over Abortion Essay
The Controversy Over Abortion One of the most controversial topics over the years, and still today, is
abortion. Is abortion murder or not? When does a fetus become a human? There are no answers to
these questions. Everyone individual has their own beliefs on whether or not abortion is justifiable.
Abortions have been performed throughout many of centuries. Recently, there has been a number of
court cases that has changed the legality of abortions, especially in the United States, for example Roe
v. Wade. Even religions have changed their views on abortions over the course of the years. In the
abortions wars there are two parties, pro life and pro choice. Pro life believes that abortion is murder

for women accused by their husbands of adultery. The priest is instructed to make a potion, the

Early Catholics didn?t believe that the soul entered the fetus until later, 40 days for boys and 90 days
for girls. Only in 1869 did the Catholic Church declare that the soul entered the fetus at conception,
therefore rendering abortion murder. Until the second half of the nineteenth century, the English
Common Law was that abortions were permitted until the quickening, that is until the baby started
moving. After that, with the new advances in the medicine field we came to understand more what
happens to a woman?s body during pregnancy and abortions. The abortion laws were made to protect
the women from uncertified abortionists. There is one remarkable legal battle that changed the
American abortion laws to what they are now, Roe v. Wade. It took place in 1973 in Texas. Roe,
Norma McCorvey, was an anonymous plaintiff against the State. The ruling, abortion is legal. It gives
the mother the right of whether or not to terminated her pregnancy. However, that does not give the
woman the right to terminate her pregnancy for any reason during all nine months. ?The court said
that the woman may have an abortion until fetal viability, the time at which it first becomes
realistically possible for a fetus to live outside the woman?s body. At that point the state?s interest

  • 2. How Concentration Of A Solute Affect The Rate Of Osmosis Biology How Does the Concentration of a Solute Affect the Rate of Osmosis BY: Kevin Liu, Prabhat Aluri, Sriram Thothathri, Edward An Question: How does the concentration of a solute affect the rate of osmosis? Hypothesis: The concentration of a solute affects the rate of osmosis over time, in a way where, the higher the concentration of a solute, the faster the rate of osmosis. This happens because, in a semi permeable membrane the water is the only through that can move through. In this case our solute is sugar, and sugar cannot fit through the pores in the membrane. When there is more sugar the difference in concentration is greater. That difference makes all the molecules want to move faster. That results in osmotic pressure being built. The sugar tries to get through the membrane, but the pores don t accommodate it. That means that the water can only go through less pores because more sugar is blocking the pores. The water that goes through the few pores, ends up clumping up near the open pores and, rushes into the membrane faster. That results in the rate of osmosis being faster. Procedure: 1. Take a long strand of dialysis tubing, and split the tubing into nine 3 inch pieces. 2. Fill a flask with pure water (0% sugar), another with 0.2M water, another flask with 0.4 M water, and another flask with 0.8M water. 3. In addition, fill a beaker with pure water. 4. Take a piece of dialysis(as cut earlier), find the mass of the dialysis, and the zero out the scale on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Analysis Of The Toronto Eaton Center By Ernst Cassirer Architecture matters, it is omnipresence; we use and encounter it on a daily basis, but most often one tends to focus on the building s function and the way it looks. Architecture is more than mere buildings that serve its function to meet our own human needs; it has a lot more to offer. Architecture matters because it can become a symbol that represents something that has a deeper meaning as well as an ultimate representation of a culture. Architecture is a powerful icon because it symbolizes experience that we as a community share, which is far beyond what other forms art can offer. Ernst Cassirer is a German philosopher who believes in the notion that man feel the need to provide meaning to given input . He believes that it has always ... It first opened to the public on March 19, 1914 originally having five different museums, which includes the Royal Ontario Museum for Archeology, Paleontology, Mineralogy, Zoology, and Geology. The original building was created using yellow bricks and it was designed by Toronto based architects Darling and Pearson and it was incorporated with various architectural motifs from different cultures. In 2011, ROM announced their expansion plan called Renaissance ROM, a plan to transform the museum, which was designed by Daniel Libeskind. The project received $60 million of budget in total and it opened on the year of 2007. To me the old yellow brick building represent the old civilization and the new additional building known as the Crystal represent the current civilization. It represents how we advanced as a society in terms of scientific and technological innovations. The materials between the two buildings are very different, which again highlights the progression of our civilization over time with the evolution in technology and architecture. • 4. The Killer Angels Quotes For this summer, I decided to read The Killer Angels by Michael Shaara. The book took place during Civil War times and went into good detail on what happened during the battles at Gettysburg. The first quote that I found interesting was from the Union Colonel Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain. The fact of slavery upon this incredibly beautiful new clean earth was appalling, but more even than that was the horror of old Europe, the curse of nobility, which the South was transplanting to new soil (Shaara 27). This quote was significant because it described the feelings of the average Union soldier towards slavery. The Union fought to end slavery because as shown by people like Chamberlain, they believed that slavery was against a man s good nature and did not want it to effect the new land of the United States. The second quote that I found significant was another quote from Chamberlain on how he describes a young black man who was injured from escaping his slave master. The man was really very black. Chamberlain felt an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... General Longstreet felt that the plan Lee formed would ultimately fail and cause a major loss to the Union Army. He brought it to Lee s attention only once, but Lee told Longstreet with the help of him and other strong generals including Pettigrew, Trimble, Pickett, and Armistead, they could cut the Union army in half and force them to retreat. Unlike Longstreet, Lee never looked at the consequences of pulling this risky attack. Longstreet, feeling guilty for trying to stop Lee s overconfidence, decides to compromise and go along with Lee s plan since he has a sacred bond with him. Eventually, Longstreet s predictions came true and the strategy was a failure. Despite the fatal casualties to Longstreet s fellow Generals, he couldn t bare himself to turn against ... • 6. Structure And Behaviour Of An Enterprise Architecture Enterprise Architecture There are a number of definitions that exist of Enterprise Architecture. An enterprise is a collaborative collection of sub organizations with a shared objective. Architecture is a description of the structure and behaviour of a system. Therefore enterprise architecture is a documentation describing the structure and behaviour of an enterprise including its information systems. There is need for flexibility and resilience in Enterprise Architecture. A lot depends on what sort of a framework you can use. Some popular frameworks include TOGAF of The Open Group and smaller ones like Zackman. Within the framework there is the content which includes structure and metamodel. The framework also contains the activities which need to occur. The framework also helps with the description of an organization, that is, its people and the different roles that are involved. Large enterprises can be very complex therefore; there is need for ways in which these complexities can be introduced. Segmenting is one way that helps reduce the complexity like in governments where there are many agencies. Another way of breaking down these complex systems is by looking at different domains. Typically, there are four main domains. The first domain is the business architecture, that is, why the business exists. It covers things like business objectives, strategic thinking and goals; also it then covers what capabilities the business has, what processes, what functions, what ... • 7. Perry Smith Character Analysis Perry Smith longed for affection from his father and he never received it. This created father issues that are displayed throughout Perry s life. Perry s actions alluded to his child like behavior in his heart. Perry looked up to his father, but never received that attention he need at a young age, from this Perry had been left feeling alone. Throughout Perry s feel tried to fill the void his father left in his heat, with other important men in his life. Perry s abandonment issues stemmed from the lack of a genuine relationship with his father; which forced him to seek attention from male figures present in his life. Perry Smith is still a child at heart. He fantasizes about treasure hunts and finding gold, as if he is still a little kid. When Perry had been with Dick he talked about a treasure map he wanted to use after they concluded their murder, This is authentic. I ve got a map. I ve got the whole history. (100). Perry is always trying to make up for his lost childhood, he never got to fantasize as a child, so this desire is still present in this adult life. Perry never felt that he was properly loved as a child. Like most children Perry needed to be loved on by a parent or parental figure, sadly Perry never revived the love and the effects can still be seen throughout his life. He never got the encouragement that most kids receive. Perry states, I never got any encouragement from him [Perry s Father] or anybody else. (133). Sense Perry he never got the ... • 10. What Are The Statistics Of Gender And Racial Differences... Understanding statistics of gender and racial differences in advertising Jean Roxanne Santa Cruz University of Houston Downtown Introduction Statistics is important in understanding the information and communicating findings to one another (Healey, 2015). I never paid much attention to statistics before because math has always been my least favorite subject. I was very hesitant in taking this course but many people assured me that I could succeed and that statistics is far more interesting than any mathematical course I will ever take. Statistics is so relevant; the more I am noticing it because of knowledge I have obtained from this course. For example, the article I will be discussing defines the differences of gender and race within advertising (Plous Neptune, 1997). Statistics can be used to analyze the amount of advertisements printed, the different gender and race of models, the year and percentage amount of gender and race bias occurs, the percentages of the exposure different gender and race models etc. I can t say that I completely understand statistics but I very much enjoyed this course and when I read statistical information, I at least can analyze the information given rather than just passing off random numbers. We often need a strong proof and thoughtfully analyzed data to build and enhance our theory and understanding of something, which is what statistics provides to make sense of the data (Healey, 2015). • 13. My Papa s Waltz Analysis Essay My Papa s Waltz is a short poem written by a man by the name of Theodore Roethke. The poem is narrated to us by a young boy, presumably similar to Roethke himself, and is directed towards the young boy s father. This poem talks about his father s over use of the substance alcohol, particularly whiskey, and some of the actions the father does in front of the young boy while he is intoxicated. The tone of the poem is sort of dark and critical, understandably. Each line holds a particular type of meaning and together tells a little story. The title of the poem, My Papa s Waltz, can suggest that the poem is narrated by the father s son. At the beginning of the poem Roethke writes, The whiskey on your breath / Could make a small boy dizzy (1 2). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In line thirteen the use of the word beat may not be so literal towards physical actions. It could easily be referring to a musical type of beat, instead of a physical beating, since the father and son are dancing after all. The last two lines of the poem state: Then waltzed me off to bed / Still clinging to your shirt (15 16). The father has now decided to end the dance by taking his son on to bed, and it could possibly be assumed the only reason they danced to begin with was to tire the young boy out a little so he could sleep well that night. By the end, the boy is still clinging onto his father s shirt. Even after the boy had been scraped up a little during the dance, he is still clinging onto the shirt. Examples Of Differing Viewpoints Differing Viewpoints The United States has been a powerful country for centuries, and an aspect of life that has not changed through the years, are differing opinions on all issues. One thing that Americans can agree on, is the need for volunteers to keep our country running. The flexibility in the Volunteer Protection Act allows states to opt out of coverage only if that state should enact a more explicit act citing the federal law. Before the federal act was signed into law in June of 1997, many states already had tort laws in place, protecting volunteers in general from litigation. Utah was a state that opted out of the act, and currently enforces their own volunteer protection. Along with the Utah statute protecting volunteers, it also ... Initiated by Oregon s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in 1982, the Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) is a compliance program that promotes effective safety and health management in workplaces. Similar to the federal Volunteer Protection Act, Oregon s Volunteer Protection Program recognizes that enforcement of safety regulations and structured approaches by these organizations will help achieve the goal of safer practices. Rather than providing protection directly to volunteers and employees, the Volunteer Protection Program promotes safety management programs which is considered to OSHA as the best form of protection. The program has been described as a roadmap, focusing on key areas necessary for a safety and health program (Oregon OSHA, 2007). In 2007, Michael Wood, administrator of Oregon OSHA, states that The VPP demonstrates that organizations have become largely self sufficient in pursuing workplace health and safety and that The program provides employers with a blueprint for success by working with Oregon OSHA. The terrorist attacks are only one of the causes of crisis in the industry because there are several issues that threaten the industry. One that was mentioned earlier gas prices. The changes that these airlines are being driven to make will be very different from the way it used to be. As most people know, the government has had much in bailing out business and the transformation that some have undergone and the airline industry is no exception. The government has a major influence on the restructuring of the industry and the air transportation system in general. To combat the escalating expenses of enhanced security and diminishing supply demand, employee layoffs and service trimming were the first areas to see cutbacks. This is certainly a competitive industry with new companies surfacing and others failing. The restructuring will definitely influence the airline industry s inclination concerning the development of both domestic and international service. It has been hard for this industry to keep revenue up and cover all the rising expenses, which makes for an obstruction in growth and prosperity. The emergence of international organizations and international norms has undoubtedly changed the way states exercise power in international politics. On the one hand, international organizations may have a large influence over the behavior of states by spreading international norms, such as self determination, that then help shape foreign policy. However, Keohane stresses, this does not by any means undermine prospects for cooperation in general (Keohane, Mitigation, p. 155). The UN does little to constrain Russia s behavior and to influence the outcome becauase of its wide and diverse membership and the lack of common interests between the key decision makers the Security Council. In essence, the UN takes on the same bilateral nature of its members, resulting in indecisive action. Russia s veto of the UN resolution that declared Crimea illegal on March 15 is a clear example of this. As realists would say, the UN as an international organization is simply another measure of national sovereignty: the Organization is based on the principle of sovereign equality (Charter of the United Nations, Chapter I Article II). No state is willing to make a decision that will undermine its own sovereignty. However, NATO and the EU, organizations that comprise of fewer members who share deeper political interests and ideologies, become central actors themselves and are not just an institutional form of the balance of powers. And that is not being exploited by capitalists (Nayyar 2006, 4). The process of globalization has changed the ways of human interaction and the flow of goods and services, people, information and ideas creating an interconnected single community that is continuously uniting many nations across borders. The emergence of easier accessibility to consumers needs has skyrocketed the production and consumption of goods and services. With a greater demand comes greater production and the twenty first century capitalist economies have changed patterns of free trade, rely on commodities and resources to be able to make profit and be integrated into the open market, benefitting from further economic growth. This change in trade patterns amongst different markets are based on product specialization and the division of labour to create employment opportunities, income and surplus benefits are extended to other parts of the globe. These patterns of trade encourage greater competition between markets and low cost goods and services for consumers (Ebeling 2004, 3). If someone is aware of their surroundings on a physical, mental and emotional level, they have the power to fully immerse themselves in their experience, without hesitation or limitation. In Saidiya Hartman s memoir Lose Your Mother, the reader is presented with an orator who lacks complete awareness of their surroundings, which later translates to a lack of self awareness, while in both Jamaica Kincaid s and Caryl Phillips respective memoirs the reader is presented with authors who are fully aware of their surroundings and thus self aware as well. Immediately the reader is made aware that Hartman is physically aware of her surroundings in Ghana, I chose Ghana because it possessed more dungeons, prisons and slave pens than any other country in West Africa.. (Hartman 7). Hartman is physically aware of her purpose in Ghana: she is here because it contains the most physical remnants of the slave trade than most other countries in West Africa. Hartman know where she will travel while in Ghana, Elmina, Salaga, Gwolu, and she knows she will find the physical remnants of the slave trade in these places: slave forts, markets, roads and castles. Hartman finds these physical remains of slavery in Elmina, the castle that once held slaves before they entered the middle passage, Salaga, the largest slave market, and Gwolu, the wall that was used to keep slave traders away. Both Kincaid in her memoir A Small Place and Phillips in his memoir The Atlantic Sound are similar to Hartman in this way, as both possess intense awareness of their physical surroundings. Kincaids memoir, although dealing with Antigua and not Ghana, contains awareness from the perspective of a native, Antigua is beautiful. Antigua is too beautiful. Sometimes the beauty of it seems unreal (Kincaid 76). Kincaid additionally addresses the physical remnants of slavery in Antigua, like Hartman, In the Antigua that I knew we lived on a street named after a maritime criminal Horatio Nelson...In the middle of High Street was the Barclays Bank... • 37. Effects Of Pollution On The Environment Pollution Affects the Environment Every day, millions of humans, plants, and animals are affected by pollution. Cancer, disease, and kidney failure are just some of the rapidly increasing effects. Pollution is a growing concern that is gradually changing the way the environment and ecosystem function. With thousands of foreign and natural contaminants being pumped into the environment every day, serious action will need to be taken to reverse the life threatening effects of pollution. Although, some could argue that pollution is mostly caused by natural chemicals; the number one leading cause of pollution is human activity. With the continued growth of human activity and modern production, pollution has reached its highest levels; causing an increase in environmental and health related issues. Most people are unaware of the increasing pollution levels in the environment. The main reason is that many overlook the subject since most pollution is not visible. Unfortunately, although pollution is often unseen, it s effects are very present and highly dangerous. On average, fifty thousand people die each year due to pollution in America (Rinkesh). Approximately six million people worldwide will die from pollution each year by 2050 (Rinkesh). That is a large quantity of deaths due to something unseen. Many skeptics believe that pollution is not harmful and the health related issues are coincidences, but that is not true. Chemicals can be poisonous. We don t drink chemicals so why would we want to breathe it? Chemical production is the highest it has ever been; causing extreme amounts of contamination and damage (World Wild Life). Pollution cannot continue to be overlooked. The related health and environmental risks are too high and too dangerous.
