Cuban Revolution Women
Throughout the Cuban Revolution women made significant strides towards gender equality. Pre
revolution Cuban women had been confined in constricting gender roles of Hispanic tradition.
Female group and activists began to take action in many non traditional activities. Women broke
tradition by leaving the home and joining in revolutionary movements. The struggle for women s
equality in Cuban society is referred to as Revolution within a Revolution due to the many
revolutionary changes for women that were brought about during the Cuban Revolution. Under
Cubas new government women attained their right to an education, the ability to have a job outside
of the home, child care was available, and women gained access to birth control.
The Cuban Revolution
The Cuban Revolution took place as a revolt to overthrow the Cuban Dictator Fulgencio Batista.
Fidel Castro s 26th of July Movement along with their allies lead the revolt beginning in 1953
against the right wing dictatorial government of Cuba. Batista first came to power when the
government of Carlos Manuel de Cespedes y Quesada was overthrown during the 1933 Revolt of
Sergeants. After, Batista made himself chief of the armed forces, ranked as a colonel. He
efficaciously took control of the five member pentarchy which functioned as the collective head of
state. He held these titles for the years leading up until he was then elected President of Cuba in
1940. After his four year long term as president he took

A Brief Note On Transportation And Logistics Management
In the vast industry that is transportation and logistics management, has a lot of influence on the
economy of the United States. One of the reasons for the close connection of the industry and U.S
economy is because of globalization, and in the content of this paper we will examine different
segments of the industry, and how they affect the economy in different ways. Addressing specific
segments of the industry tells us just how important each segment is to the economy, instead of
speaking of the industry in general. Throughout this research paper we will be looking at five
specific transportation and logistics operation within the industry. The airlineindustry is very
important to the many cities within the United States, creating a number of jobs because of the
ability that airports have to connect cities to the rest of the world. Job created through the air
transport systems that help boost a cities economy is tourisms and airport jobs, which can help to
transform a city. The cruise shipindustry also help boost cities, which operates port of call for the
cruises that operate from them. Cruises also generates many jobs in the tourism sector as people
sometimes have to fly and overnight from different cities to board these cruises. Another major
factor that is affecting the industry is globalization and how it is able to create jobs and help
improve the economy. Other areas in the transportation and logistics industry that has an affect on
the economy is the overuse of

The Disenchanted Research Paper
Research paper: The Disenchanted F. Scott Fitzgerald s life and work were in a knot from the
start; his profession spanned one of the most tumultuous eras of the century, and from the very
start he was the creator and the victim of the new culture of celebrity which accompanied the rise
of modern technology. Budd Schulberg masterfully created a character that closely and in many
ways represents Fitzgerald in his later years; Manley Halliday is that character. His mind s eye,
incurably bifocal, could never stop searching for the fairy tale maiden who made his young
manhood a time of bewitchment, when springtime was the only season and the days revolved on a
lovers spectrum of sunlight, twilight, candlelight and dawn. [Ch.10]. Fitzgerald... Show more

The Effects Of Repetitive Head Impact On Athletes Essay
Over the years, the demand for research on the cognitive and neuropathological consequences of
repetitive head impacts in athletes has been an uprise in the sports medicine field. A concussion is
caused by a direct blow to the head or another body region, resulting in a sudden acceleration and
deceleration of the craniocervical complex ().It is estimated that each year between 1.6 and 3.8
million athletes in the United States suffer a concussionin sport, however, it is still considered an
underestimation due to many injuries going unrecognized or unreported by players. The sports
related concussion has gained primary attention from the media due to the potential dangers and
long term consequences of the impact. For example, the movie concussion was released in
December 2015 start an uproar of the media consider of the early focus on professional football
players due to the game built around quick and full contact between powerful players. The movie
was based off a true life story which unfolding in September 2002, when Omalu was assigned to

Jimi Hendrix Accomplishments
Jimi Hendrix was called the greatest electric guitarist. He was someone who was determined to
make his life worth his time. Hendrix wanted to go somewhere and he never stopped trying to
get to where he wanted to be. He started from having absolutely nothing, he barely had a family
at some points in his life. Then at the age Twenty Five he was standing on a stage in front of over
half of a million people, who were there to see him. All he was, was a frustrated artist, trying to
learn to read music. Jimi Hendrixwas one of the most inspiring and remarkable musicians of the
rock era. James Allen Hendrix, who was better known as Al Hendrix was born in 1919, in
Vancouver, Canada. Lucille Jeter was born in 1925, in Seattle, Washington, where Al

amazed the mud soaked crowds and brought them to a frenzy with his performance (Unterberger

What Is Freight Transport System
The North American and European railway systems is freight transportation systems I will be
comparing in this paper. When analyzing the cost structures between the two systems, the results
show that the share of fixed costs in the overall transportation cost is much high in Europe versus
North America. When transporting freight by railway in North America, rail companies look for
the shortest route for each train car while European rail companies devote their focus to the high
utilization and consolidation in each train car. The capacity of each train and how the cost is
structured differs from North America to Europe due to infrastructural and institutional reason.
Many railway networks throughout Europe are currently owned or were owned ... Show more

There are still many challenges that are hindering the future development in globalized trade.
Environmental issues, energy demands and issues in the supply chain field are just a few of these
challenges. An example of the energy issue would be the ongoing fluctuations in energy costs.
Freight and air transportation both depend on petroleum. Typically, the times of higher energy
prices creates a rationalization in the international trade market and the underlying supply chains.
Many the global policies and guidelines in the European Union rest within each member s state.
Due to this, the effectiveness of the European Union guidance relies on the willingness of member
states to adopt the policy. One of the greatest outcomes of the European Union applying and
sticking to their rules was the reduction in custom clearances at a nation s border. Before January
1993, every truck was stopped at every border for tax clearance, customs check and your usual
vehicle inspection. Overall, they were looking for a way to create a more effective market
environment for goods being transported within Europe. The European Union served as an
important forum for creating a benchmark on policies on open and competitive markets throughout
Europe.

highway system, railways and waterways. Over the year s underinvestment and not planning has

Manic Depression In America
I have Manic Depression. This is not a pity party, this is reality. With that comes an abundance of
baggage and difficulties. Often, I am asked what this really is, and how it truly effects me. Life
can sometimes feel as if a lead blanket is on top of me, weighing me down and preventing me
from even moving. The chemical balance in my brain feels like a father yelling at his child to
do something, and my body simply responds with apathy, a yawn towards the world s
responsibilities. Food has always been a fascinating and infuriating subject in terms of my issues.
Food is both my enemy and my best friend, but neither of these are the roles they should have
played. As an enemy, food was to be avoided at all cost. It was often that I skipped... Show more

Since these care givers are the first people that a child interacts with, and are often the primary
interaction for a child until the beginning of school, they are inherently the sole role model for a
child. Children often collect the same mannerisms, behavioral complexes, and may even vote in
the same way that their initial care givers have voted. By this logic, if a child grows up in a
household with the aforementioned helicopter parents, they are likely to treat their offspring in the
same manner, even if they are aware of the damage it may have caused them, because
subconsciously they do not know how else to treat a child.
To solve this problem of
generational trauma, the conversation has to begin that Millennial, Generation Z , and future
generations should be self aware and open about the adversity they have faced from their parents. A
suppressive culture is no longer one that can thrive, and the only way to change this is through

Symptoms And Treatment Of Ptsd Veterans
It is evident that reforms are necessary within the VA system and society in regards to PTSD and
veterans. How can the American veterans be better taken care of? I will focus on the following
four specific issues that are in need of reform,
1.How can wait times be decreased for veterans seeking mental health treatment?
2.How can the stigma attached to PTSD in veterans be eliminated?
3.How can veterans receive immediate assistance in times of crisis?
4.How can we ensure that diagnosed PTSD veterans will continue treatment after receiving full
monetary compensation?
Focusing on these research questions, I propose to conduct research on decreasing wait times for
PTSD related appointments, reducing, or eliminating, the stigma attached to PTSD in veterans,
providing a way for veterans to receive immediate PTSD crisis help, and a way to ensure that
veterans diagnosed with PTSD continue treatment.
Veterans often experience long wait times to schedule an appointment for PTSD. Through
additional research I have found that according to a study in 2003 by the American Legion, of
approximately 300,000 veterans waiting for health care, over half of them had been waiting over
eight months for an appointment (American Legion, 2013). I further researched how many VA
facilities in the United States offer specialized treatment for PTSD. In all 50 states, and
Washington, DC, there are a total of 139 facilities (US Department of Veterans Affairs, 2015). I

Editor s Note: Guiding change may be the ultimate test of a leader no business survives over the
long term if it can t reinvent itself. But, human nature being what it is, fundamental change is often
resisted mightily by the people it most affects: those in the trenches of the business. Thus, leading
change is both absolutely essential and incredibly difficult. Perhaps nobody understands the
anatomy of organizational change better than retired Harvard Business School professor John P
Kotter. This article, . originally published in the spring of 1995, previewed Kotter s 1996 book

the downside possibilities. They worry that employees with seniority will become defensive, that
morale will drop, that events will spin out of control, that short term business results will be
jeopardized, that the stock will sink, and that they will be blamed for creating a crisis. A paralyzed
senior management often comes from having too many managers and not enough leaders.
Management s mandate is to minimize risk and to keep the current system operating. Change, by
definition, requires creating a new system, which in turn always demands leadership. Phase
one in a renewal process typically goes nowhere until enough real leaders are promoted or hired
into senior level jobs. Transformations often begin, and begin well, when an organization has a
new head who is a good leader and who sees the need for a major change. If the renewal target is
the entire company, the CEO is key. If change is needed in a division, the division general manager
is key. When these individuals are not

Family Stressors Effect On Children
Stress in children are situations that produce anxiety and require them to adapt or change. Family
stressors such as divorce, domestic violence, and poverty have a tremendous affect on preschool
children and are ultimately detrimental to their development. Although stress is normal for children
to experience, preschoolers are not resilient towards stressors and are highly affected by them. The
effects of stressors on children are not minimal either. Not only do familystressors affect children s
behavior in the preschool classroom, but it influences their development and overall future. This
makes it that much more important for parents and childcare providers to be aware and help/guide
children. Family stressors have lasting effects on

The Deduction Of Taxability Of Parking Fees Paid As...
MEMORANDUM
TO:ERIC J OLMEDO
FROM:SHELLI M DIAL
SUBJECT:THE DEDUCTION OF TAXABILITY OF PARKING FEES PAID AS STUDENT OR
EMPLOYEE
DATE:OCTOBER 9, 2015
Facts:
Our client, Eric J Olmedo, pays the parking fees, and is a full time student at Portland State
University. Also Eric J Olmedo pays the parking fees and has a full time employee of the Pacific
Northwest Carpenters Union. These parking fees are established, when Eric J Olmedo is on the
construction site in the downtown Portland areas where paid parking is required. Eric J Olmedo
home office is 4222 NE 158th Avenue Portland OR 97230. At his home location, there are no
parking fees required.
Issues:
The tax deductions for the parking fees depend on these issues: First, whether the parking fees
are paid when a client is a student attending classes. Second, whether the parking fees are paid
when a client is performing his work duty at job site that requires parking fees, as a full time
employee. This construction site is temporary work locations as the Carpenters main office is

Geographic Information Systems ( Gis )
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) has had one of the biggest impacts on the discipline of
modern day geography. Roger Tomlinson coined the term GIS in the early 1960s in Canada.
Tomlinson defined GIS in its early days as a computer application designed to perform certain
specific functions (Coppock et al; 1991). GIS is interdisciplinary in nature, having a distinctive role
in geography. The application created for the Canada GIS department was designed to summarize
and tabulate land inventory for the country; it solved two issues: to measure irregular homogeneous
geographic areas and to overlay different themes. Other early systems were created for the Chicago
Area Transportation Study, the U.S. Census Bureau and Landscape... Show more content on

From this perspective, GIS on its own is meaningless; it gains meaning only by its goals, which
generally involve the application of knowledge by scientists, but not science itself (Table 1;
McCauley 1993; Moll 1993; Skelly 1993b). Discussants view it the same as remote sensing, it is
a tool. Some scientist would argue that GIS is a part of the engineering field more than it is in
the science field. Engineering is identified as a problem solving activity and science is linked to
discovery and problem solving understandings. It is also felt that GIS is a tool used by
geographers to answer geographic questions, thus a tool only applied when going about the
business of geography, so it is geography.
Other theorists believe that the tool is inseparable from the science. When GIS advances, so does
the study of Geography and Cartography. Geographers are GIS toolmakers. They understand the
concepts, methods, models and theories that are behind the tool. They also understand how a
phenomenon is dispersed shown through the tool and knowledge of geographic concepts. This
leads to the thought that if you can do GIS, then you do geography so therefore if one is a science
the other must be a science as well.
The science debate over GIS is that it is a method and or a body of knowledge used to develop
and test spatial theories and hypothesis. Many believe that it is not

Essay on Falklands War
Falklands War As soon as the war ended people wondered why Britain had won and why
Argentina had lost. The conclusion made by the Americans is that it was that shifts in tactics, or
weather may have changed the result of the war, but it would seem that Britain s training and
leadership did decide the outcome. It is clear that the 25,000 men of the task force that sailed
from Portsmouth in April 1982 were one of the most experianced, and certainly best trained
forces that Britain had ever sent to war. Everyone who was sent to the Falkland s, from sailors to
fighter pilots knew what his job was and therefore carried it out in the correct way that he was
trained to do. Aswell as this the Brits... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first option was possible for the Argentines, and as the task force closed into the firing zone it
appeared as if the Argentine Navy was moving against them with Exocet firing frigates. The loss of
the General Belgrano effectively eliminated this threat, and the frigates were withdrawn and never
closed again. This left two options, to sink the carriers, submarines or the Exocet. Both of which
had been attempted previously. The Argentines had four submarines at the outbreak of the war but
had lost one when South Georgia was recaptured in April. The remaining subs faced having to get
close enough to within torpedo range of a fleet, whose objective was anti submarine, and had the
best training and weapons to defend against this type of threat. Still, the Argentine submarines did
sail and apparently launched torpedoes, although they did no harm to the British aircraft carriers.
The Argentine submarine threat, although providing a constant problem to British generals, were
destined to remain only a cause of thought to Admiral Woodward. The launching of an exocet was
attempted on several occasions but the problem of the radar guided missiles meant

This option still doesn t take advantage of the growing population of the youth either. Option 4:
Sell the business In this case the business can be sold without taking a loss. At the end of 2009
as per the data provided total liabilities are $154,208, assets constitute $191,303 and owner s
equity is $37,095. If we sell the business now, the shareholders can still make some money out of
the venture and get out of the business before the situation exacerbates. The disadvantage of this
option is a lost opportunity. The main threat of entering in the bowling business is the huge
investment in the construction of the building and the lanes, which in this case is already there.
The business is on a long term lease and is paying relatively low rent. You will also be letting go
of a 30 year old brand that people recognize. Recommendation: My analysis shows that going for
the Lounge option will yield the highest benefit. As per appendix A, we can attain dividends of $

obtained here is the most realistic out of the three cases and yields a healthy return on investment.

The firm launched its new computer consulting business in 1954 when it began providing services
to General Electric s state of the art appliance factory near Louisville, Kentucky. Andersen soon
developed the largest technology practice of any accounting firm. During the 1950s and 1960s, the
consulting business grew but remained a relatively minor activity compared to Andersen s auditing
business. During the 1970s, Andersen s consulting business exploded as the demands for
information technology increased. By 1979, 42 percent of Andersen s $645 million in worldwide

the leading contributor to Andersen s revenues and bottom line in the mid 1980s. Family Feud As
Andersen s consulting business continued to grow, tensions within the firm mounted. The
consultants, who were contributing more to profits than the auditors, felt that they were subsidizing

profits. The auditing partners, who controlled the managing board, made few concessions to the
consulting partners. In response, a number of the top consultants left Andersen for other firms or to

Importance Of Effective Teacher
Effective teaching is when a teacher is able to teach to the best interest of his students. Effective
teachers should have an outstanding knowledge of the contents they are teaching, they should be
able to explain the contents in extensive details and be able to teach it using different strategies to
enhance student s interest and learning. Effective teachers should trust their students and understand
how each student thinks and how they all have a different perspective of the world. Effective
teachers should have a positive assumption for student success. They should believe that all
students are capable to assess higher forms of thinking and learning if they are given appropriate,
differentiated instruction and guidance. Teachers should create an environment that supports
individual and collaborative learning; enhance positive social interactions and self motivation.
Effective teachers should be proficient in classroom management. They should organize their
classroom in a way that students and teachers are able to circulate through the class and that each
and every student has some privacy. Effective teachers should organize their classroom with an
evident plan to increase students performance, especially when it comes to wall decorations and
posters. Teachers should have a set of rules to promote respect in the classroom. Set up expectations
for student s behavior. Effective teachers should also have all materials organized. They should

Compare And Contrast Feminism And Liberal Feminism
Whilst many disagreements have arisen in feminist discourse over the years, none has been quite
as prevalent or divisive as the issue of the commodification of sexuality. There are two central

Liberal feminismis influenced by the ideas and values of liberalism. Thus, these feminists share a
contractarian view which places an emphasis on a woman s ability to make choices for herself
and that the selling of one s sexuality is merely an expression of that choice. Paradoxically, radical
feminists believe that because women live in a patriarchal society, the commodification of
sexuality can never be a choice or a form of expression. Rather, forms of sexual commodification
such as pornography and prostitution just enforce male oppression. This essay will explore these
two ideological positions in regard to their divergent definitions of human nature and freedom
which has created a division within feminism about the commodification of sexuality.
Liberal feminism is grounded in the ideological framework of liberalism and therefore shares a
commonality with liberal themes of human nature. Whilst acknowledging the biological
differences between sexes, early liberal feminists argued that prevailing liberal ideas should also be
applied to women. Therefore, both men and women possesses natural rights, they should have
equal rights under law and share equal opportunity (Beasley 1999).

Institutionalized Social Orders
Why are the vast majorities of deviant behaviors routine and institutionalized and so few are

that it may be unseemly outside that establishment. Practices that are gainful

Elizabeth Blackburn Research Paper
Elizabeth Blackburn is an amazing woman; who comes from a family of physicians. She has
always had a passion for animals and science; she found biology to be her favorite subject in
school. She was fascinated by the visual impacts of science through books. Perhaps, it is her
enthusiasm for biology that inspired her to be one of the leading biochemists today. Elizabeth
helped in the discovery of the fountain of youth. Elizabeth and two of her colleagues discovered a
way for chromosomes to be copied during cell division. Within this discovery, they also found a
unique DNAsequence in the telomeres that protects these cells against degradation. In 2009, Dr.
Blackburn was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine.
Blackburn was born in 1948, in the city of Hobart in Tasmania, Australia. Elizabeth is the second
oldest of seven children. Her parents, uncle, and her aunt were all physicians and her grandfather
(on her father s side) collected Cleopatra beetles. When she was four years old, her family moved
to the town of Launceston. In Launceston, she attended the Broadland House Church of England
Girls Grammar School. At sixteen years old, her family relocated to Melbourne, Australia.
Elizabeth gained very high marks in the end of the year final statewide matriculation exams while
attending University High School. As a child, she was always curious about animals. The family

Why The Wicked Don t Care About Preferences
It was once said that since outer space was practically infinite, there was no way that alternative
universes couldn t exist. They say that s where we came from, there are endless theories from
all types of viewpoints. Some call us godsends, some call us monsters. We call ourselves people.
We didn t mean for it to happen, most of us would have prefered if it didn t. The wicked don t
care about preferences, they don t care about anything besides themselves. They weren t
thinking of anyone but themselves when they cast that spell, they weren t thinking on anyone
but themselves when they sent a world that didn t belong to them into panic. It s been years
since we arrived and so much has changed. Those of us that came over didn t age, how could
animations age? We were given human personas to help blend in, some of us tried to construct
lives knowing that we may never reach home again but, ultimately we gave up. It s rather
demotivating when you have to watch the people you care about grow older while you never
age. They changed our names, most of us. I m Cindy now, Mickey got turned into Mick. They
said that it s better this way so we don t attract unwanted attention to ourselves. That s not hard,
the country that we re trapped in has been reduced to rubble because of our villains and the most
magical place on Earth is the hell that we re forced to stay in. We got turned into targets, we ve
been branded as social outcasts and freaks, monsters; the marks on our forearms prove

Brief Account Of The Life And Invention Of Lewis Frederick...
The aim of this report is to give a brief account of the life and invention of Lewis Frederick Urry.
As the subject of my report, a literature search was carried out to identify facts and relevant
information. Lewis Frederick Urry became a Chemical engineer in the 1950 and was the very first
person to fabricate alkaline batteries. In conclusion he made a significant contribution in the field
electrochemistry and battery technology in the 20th century.
Introduction
Many objects that we use on a day to day basis are powered by batteries. A battery is a device that
is able to store electrical energy in the form of chemical energy, and convert that energy into
electricity. It is composed of two terminals made of different chemicals ... Show more content on

Richard Jansen Parkes (Parkes, 2014) states that, thanks to his invention, an estimated 80% of the
dry cell batteries in the world are based on Urry s work.
Background and life of Lewis Urry
Lewis Fredrick Urry, was born in the village of Pontypool, Ontario, in Canada, on the 29th of
January in 1927. Son of Oman Urry and Ada Rowan Urry, he was one of five children, in fact, he
had two brothers and two sisters (NNDB, Tracking The Entire World, 2014). Christopher Reed
(Reed, 2004) mentions that in 1946, Lewis decided to join the Canadian army where he spent
three years, and in the 1950 he graduated from the University of Toronto, with a Bachelor s
degree in Chemical Engineering. In the same year, Urry went to work as a manufacturer for a
battery company called Eveready and in 1955 he was assigned to work in a laboratory in
Cleveland, in USA, to extend the durability of the zinc carbon batteries. Christopher Reed (Reed,
2004) also states that, he worked with several types of battery and power cells and owned over
51 patents, including some for the rechargeable lithium battery. He was married to a woman
named Beverly Ann and he was father of three sons and two daughters. Lewis Urry, (see figure 1)
died on the 19th of October in 2004, due to illness, in Middleburg Heights, in USA and he was
buried in Butternut Ridge Cemetery, North Olmsted, USA. (NNDB, Tracking The Entire World,

The pre concert speech I found very enlighting and informative. Ms. Laura Jackson is a master at
bringing her interpretation of the story of the symphony, to life. She creates a dynamic vivid image
in her story telling setting one at ease in this formal and uptight environment.
The concert starts, the lights dim in the gallery. The President and CEO Tim P. Young takes the
stage to inform us that this evening s concert is being recorded to be aired at a later date on

applause. The concert begins. Starting like a warm spring day full of happiness, joy birds a

turn into light in the next movement. Like a lost loved one who has been found. From light to
dark the music plays. Hopefulness swells like a playground full of young vibrant children, running,
laughing enjoying the sunshine beating down on their smiling faces. Leaves appear blowing in the

The Oil Curse, By Michael Ross
The discovery of oil in a low income country is often met with both excitement and dread. Many
theories circle around the idea of a resource curse that supposedly affects countries with large
amounts of resources. The resource curse essentially dictates that a country with large amounts
of resources is not as likely to thrive as a country with low levels of resources. The issue with
this view is that it generalizes too much; there is just as much variance in the levels of economic
success between resource rich countries as there is between them and resource scarce countries.
This is why this newly found oil in this country does not necessarily need to be met with dread, as
there is a chance for success. However, this newly found potential for wealth needs to be handled
with extreme care. In the following memo I will outline what the resource curseis, why some
countries are affected by it and others not, and finally I will outline how this country should handle
its newly found oil wealth.
Michael Ross in his book The Oil Curse, analyzes in great detail the effects of oil on a country s
economic, political, and social environment. Ross argues that resource curse is not the appropriate
terminology; it is more accurately a mineral curse , as countries are generally not affected by other
types of resources. (Ross, p.1) In fact, oil and natural gas tend to be the most common villains of the
resource curse. Humphreys, Sachs, and Stiglitz hypothesize that countries with

Analysis Of Louise Gluck s Poem Threshing
In this journal entry I will be discussing Louise Gluck s poem Threshing. Louis Gluck centers her
poem around the simple day in day out lives, that is themselves talk about the way we sometimes
refuse to change our own lives, while the poem uses the sun as an element as the endless loop
that is life and how we keep it the way it is. Threshing s main element is the sun. In many ways, as
you read the poem, you can see that the sun can be seen as the main character in the poem. It
dictates the working men s work, their timeof relaxing, how long they are alond to feel free during
their time or relaxing, when they must go back to their stressful home life and when they must
return back to work as though it is an endless in escapable loop... Show more content on

They wake up, go to work, work the full day, come home, and deal with their seemingly difficult
families. They don t search for a better way of life even though they drink and are displeased
with how their home life is. They seem pleased with their work. It is uncomplicated, like them.
They do the physical work, get paid, and go home. The displeasure doesn t come from their
working life, but from the displeasing wives they live with. They don t seem to seek better
women to be with. They stay with the woman they are unhappy with and use their work as an
escape instead. It is possible that they create their own stress with their own inner issues that
they project as the women being the root of it, pointing the finger away from themselves so they
will never have to go through the process improving themselves. They are unable or unwilling to
change or work to improve their lives which, in total, leave them stuck in an endless unchanging
loop much like the rising and setting of the sun. In all, Louise Gluck s poem Threshing talks
about more than the rising and setting of the sun, and the Picasso painting of the working day
ofg these men. The poem implies the connections of the patterns we keep ourselves in if we aren t
open to change and self improvement, and the endlessness of it as time passes. If we aren t able to
find all the little ways to be happier we will always be stuck in a loop of misery no matter where
we are or how many days

Hawthorne Studies
The Hawthorne Studies, conducted at Western Electric s Hawthorne plant outside Chicago, starting
in 1924 and running through 1936, were intended to bring about a greater understanding of the
effects of working conditions on worker productivity. The results of the experiments were contrary
to the management theory of the time (Scientific Management), and were key in bringing about an
understanding of motivation factors in employment
Basically, a series of studies on the productivity of workers introduced several deliberate various

The relays were mechanically counted as they slipped down the chute. The intent was to measure

Reaction Paper On Preposition
Preposition is a part of a sentence. Without a preposition, a sentence may not carry any meaning
even. A sentence may fail to give its complete meaning without a preposition. It is the most
commonly used functional word in sentences. A preposition is placed anywhere in a sentence.
According to the rules of forming a sentence, a sentence does not end with preposition. The usage
of preposition at the end of sentence is not grammatically correct, still, it is used. It is permissible
in the modern times. A preposition that comes at the end of sentence is called stranded
preposition. No concrete and clear definition can be given for each preposition except for a few.

(Placed over)
Preposition may be of a word or phrase,
e.g. (of words) at, in, on, etc.
e.g. (of phrases)
In spite of , on account of, instead of, etc. At times a preposition functions as a modifier. (I.e. as an
adjective or as an adverb)
e.g.
We arrived at 12 0 clock. (Adverb)
The news about him is not true. (Adjective)
The word preposition has its origin from a Latin word praepositia meaning placed before that is
pre positioned. It is placed before a noun, a pronoun, or a phrase. It shows or explains its temporal
or logical relationship of an object (a noun, a pronoun, or a phrase)
with some other noun or pronoun or adjective or phrase in sentences. Preposition tells or gives the
information or idea on the relationship between nouns or pronouns or something else. It tells, in
what relation a noun or a pronoun stands in regard to something else in a sentence.
The cat is under the table.
Here the preposition under is placed before the noun table and explains in what way the noun cat
stands in relation to the other noun table, in other words, the preposition under, explains in what
way the two nouns cat and table is related to each other:

Another characteristic that differentiate between business to business market demand and
business to consumer is that business to business products tend to have inelastic demand (Hutt
amp; Speh, 2010). This principle shows that business to business product has demand
characteristics with no correlation with price. BD had increased the price of its evacuated
blood collection tube between 1979 to 1985 from 6 cents per unit to 8 cents per unit, where as
its competitor, Terumo, a Japanese firm has kept its price at 6.5 cents per unit. However, BD
has not lost its market share, which was kept at roughly 80 per cent while Terumo had increased
its market share from 10 per cent to 20 per cent (Cespedes amp; Rangan, 1993). This change in
market share for Terumo, can be explained by other means rather than arguing that Terumo, by
keeping its price, absorbing any cost increases and inflation, has created an elastic demand like in
business to consumer. This argument is highlighted in the fact that in the market for blood
collection needles in the same period, even though both BD and Terumo had kept its per unit
price at 7.5 cents, BD market share has dropped from 40 per cent to 30 BD while Terumo doubled
its market share from 25 per cent to 50 per cent (Cespedes amp; Rangan, 1993).
Finally, a global market perspective must be taken by a marketer in business to business marketing.

Why Do Farmers Do Not Have The Right To Fix Their Own...
John Deere Tractor, farmers could pull out a toolbox in the middle of a field and fix what
needed fixing, just about every time. It was that simple for them, and they could get right back
to what they were doing, and meet their deadline. Nowadays, farmers can not do that. The
Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998 creates it so farmers do not have the right to fix their
own tractors, because of the programming that is in those said tractors. That programming is set
so that only certain people can log into the program and push a few buttons on a computer and
whala, its fixed. They do not come on the exact date that you break down though. The farmer
would have to wait a few days, or find a way to get their machinery all the way to the dealer to get
fixed. That is where the catch comes in. Many people think that taking their equipment to the dealer
will take a short amount of time, but instead, that could take multiple weeks at a time. Farmers, do
not have that kind of time. They need to get things done at a certain deadline, as fast as they can,
which means that they need to have their equipment fixed as fast as they can now. If not, it could
cause delays in planting and harvesting, which could end up in a loss of profits and some even
angrier farmer. (Farmers demand right...)... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

How Successfully Did the Conservative Party Adapt to the...
When assessing the various intricate denouements of the late Victorian and Edwardian periods of
the British political history, one must stop and wonder about the performance of the Conservative
party as one of the protagonists of the parliamentary struggles and changing social and demographic
scenarios. By engaging in such exploration, it is almost impossible to avoid one of the most
formidable questions which might consequentially arise was the Conservative partya deliberate and
conscious derivative of the changing political climate or merely a spontaneous chain reaction
driven by luck and circumstance? The answer to this question may be crucial for understanding
the nature of the party s success/failure. In order to explain why this very nature may be the crux
of articulating Conservative politics during these two historical periods, we will use the analogy of
Real vs. Nominal wages .
The simplest and most concise way of explaining the difference between real and nominal wages
is by providing an example. If one was to get a raise which amounts to extra 10% of the original
value, there is no guarantee that the raise will amount to a wider set of opportunities. The
improvement of one s overall financial well being is grounded within the concept of real wage.
The mere increase in nominal wage has no implications if not adjusted for inflation. Moreover, if
the inflation rate was to exceed the percentage change of the salary, the worker would actually end
up being worse off

Reasoned Action Theory
Article Critique Theory of Reasoned Action and Theory of Planned Behavior
Purpose/ Objectives
The purpose of the study conducted was to understand the use of sunscreen amongst children in
fourth grade using the theory of reasoned action and planned behavior. (Martin, Jacobsen, Lucas,
Branch, Ferron, 1999) The authors hypothesized that attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived
behavioral control would be associated with intentions to use sunscreen and as a result, would
translate to actual sunscreen use. (Martin et al., 1999)
Methods
The study was conducted in Hillsborough County, Florida, which is ideal for the study because of
its subtropical climate. The sample consisted of fourth grade students who were recruited from one
of the three public schools scheduled to receive a skin cancer educational program during the
months of February, March, and April (when data collection occurred). The authors do not... Show

The authors did not mention their reasoning for not including the other constructs. However,
measuring the perceived power would have allowed for a better understanding of what the children
felt made the use of sunscreen difficult or easy for them, while evaluation of outcomes would allow
the authors to measure how important the children viewed the results of using sunscreen.

Persuasive Essay On Dunkning
We have investigated the slam dunk from its humble origins predating even the Big Bang to its
present day status as one of sports most exciting feats. Every iota of knowledge on the subject of
dunking has been presented. There truly is no more to say about dunks as we know them or as they
were known to inhabitants of previous eras. Thus, dear reader, we must look beyond the present
time, into the uncertain haze of the future, to hypothesize on what dunks will look like ten, twenty,
a hundred, a thousand years from now.
The maximum level of human athleticism is constantly rising due to improvements in nutrition

Ten decades of athletic improvements will have yielded the ability to dunk on a fourteen foot

at their customary ten feet. However, robotic implants in human limbs have augmented humanity
s collective athleticism and propelled it to new heights. Relying on the natural actions of our
muscles, these implants amplify what our bodies already do. Neither the high school game nor
the professional game (the college game has long since been dismantled) allow these implants in
their players, but independently run amateur leagues featuring players so implanted begin to
gain large followings. The rims in these games are set at fifteen feet, and there is very little

The meal plan doesn t stray far from the normal family diet it is healthy, and delicious even for
children. Celiac disease is a digestive disorder that causes people to have problems consuming
foods containing the protein gluten. It causes damage to their small intestine and may lead to other
illnesses. Because of this people with celiac disease have to avoid eating foods made from the
grains wheat, rye, barley and triticale because they all contain the protein gluten.(3) In addition
people with celiac disease have to avoid foods that may have been manufactured, processed or
mixed with any gluten which is why it is not a surprise that oats falls on the list of foods to avoid
as oats are often harvested and stored or processed in the same facilities and machines as wheat
we have to look specifically for gluten free oats. Baked products containing bleached flour, graham
flour or yeast also often contain gluten. Wheat allergy and gluten sensitivity are different from
celiac disease which is a genetic, autoimmune digestive disorder where when the body tries to
digest gluten it induces damage to the small intestine. Non celiac gluten sensitivity, because celiac
disease is a type of gluten sensitivity, on the other hand is where the body is intolerant to gluten but
no small intestine damage occurs while wheat allergy is where the body rejects gluten and other

the only other presence of the enemy is the almost nightly mustard gas attacks. We have gas masks

Identity And Ownership Research Paper
What is ownership? Ownership is the right, state, or process of possessing something. What is
identity? Identity is the fact of being who or what a thing is. While it may not be evident, owning
something can deeply express the identity go that person. The relationship between ownership and
identity can be exceedingly complex; however, with a strenuous evaluation of what ownershiptruly
means and with deep insight into how they affect each other, the correlation becomes clear. Since
ownership means to possess something, it is an everyday try that most humans can relate to. For
example, when a child is given something for their birthday a toy the child now owns the toy.
Therefore, owning something brings pride to the owner. Owning something

American Revolution Dbq
The colonists were upset about Parliament and Britain; which lead them to create the American
Revolution. The American Revolution was not justified and unreasonable. The colonists were
overreacting about Parliament s laws and Britain. The colonists were needed to pay the taxes in
order to help the British pay for the war. Most of their riots and protests forced Parliament make
more law to the colonies and made their problem worse. In addition, this would affect their
economy.
Because the British helped the colonists for the French and Indian War, they would need to tax the
colonists in order to pay for it. The United States History; Independence to 1914, stated that, Great
Britain had won the French and Indian War, but Parliament still... Show more content on

In the United States History; Independence to 1914 textbook, it stated that Parliament made the
Intolerable Acts because of how the Patriots created the Boston Tea Party, Lord North, the new
British prime minister, was furious when he heard about the Boston Tea Party. Parliament decided
to punish Boston. In the spring of 1774 it passed the Coercive Acts. Colonists called these laws the
Intolerable Acts. (Bipson; page sixty eight). An internet, Encyclopedia Britannica , reported the
cause of the Boston Massacre, Emboldened by the knowledge that the Riot Act had not been read
and that the soldiers could not fire their weapons until it had been read and then only if the crowd
failed to disperse within an hour the crowd taunted the soldiers and dared them to shoot, while
pelting them with snow, ice, and oyster shells. (Britannica.com) The Boston Massacre was caused
by a group a colonists who protested and made the situation worse. This persuaded the colonists to
become more angrier and try to rebel the British. In the textbook, the stated that the colonists
protests on the Stamp Act made Parliament have control on making law for the colonies, Members
of Parliament were upset that colonists had challenged their authority. Thus, Parliament issued the
Declaratory Act, which stated that Parliament had the power to make laws for the colonies in all
cases whatsoever . Because of the colonists protests on laws, such as the Stamp and Tea Act,
resulted Parliament passing more rules to the colonies and lead both nations to the American

The Great Eastern Research Paper
The Great Eastern, the 18,915 tonne ship was an iron sailing steam ship designed by Isambard
Kingdom Brunel, and built by J. Scott Russell Co. It was created and launched at Millwall on
the River Thames, London. It was by far the biggest ship ever built at the time of its 1858
launch. It had the capacity to carry up to 4,000 passengers from England to Australia without
requiring additional fuel. The length of the Great Eastern was 692 feet (211 m). The Great
Eastern was the only ship completely built from metal. Just for comparison, the Titanic was built
60 years later in 1915 and was 190 ft longer, 10 ft wider and weighed 33,395 tonnes more than the
Great Eastern. Each iron plate weighed a third of a ton and required 6 men to lift it. 30,000 iron
plates were required to complete to structure of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On 25 March 1852, Brunel made a sketch of a steamship in his diary and wrote beneath it: Say
600 ft x 65 ft x 30 ft (180 m x 20 m x 9.1 m). These measurements were six times larger by volume
than any ship afloat. Brunel realised that the ship would need more than one propulsion system;
since twin screws were still very much experimental, he settled on a combination of a single
screw and paddle wheels, with auxiliary sail power. Using paddle wheels meant that the ship
would be able to reach Calcutta, where the Hooghly River was too shallow for screws. Brunel
showed his idea to John Scott Russell, an experienced naval architect and ship builder whom he
had first met at the Great Exhibition. Scott Russel examined Brunel s plan and made his own
calculations to see if it could be done. He calculated that it would have a displacement of 20,000
tons and would require 8,500 horsepower (6,300 kW) to achieve 14 knots (26

Holocc Mafia Crips Research Paper
The Seville Blocc Mafia Crips are a multi cultural Crip set located in Eastern Los Angeles. Born
from the struggle of poverty, neglect from the government, and general desire to resist the
reality that was life in the hood. Originally a group of friends growing up on the East side, the
S.B.M.C (Seville Blocc Mafia Crips) were meant to keep a strong bond in times of need. Around
the time of the 1980 s crack epidemic, violence in Seville rose steadily as well as general crime, and
the youth of Seville was no exception to these changes. Introduced through the public school
system, narcotic sales became a popular activity in the neighborhood with multiple dealers flooding
the street corners with ages as young as twelve and thirteen. Recognizing

Safe Sex On College Campuses
Trying to choose a theory is never an easy task. In my opinion, there can be a group of six
individuals, each given the task of picking a theory to utilize, and every one of them could
potentially pick a different theory. The reason being, everyone has their own personal experiences
and understanding of what works best, or feels more comfortable executing. With health education,
there are many theories available to choose from, because of that, guidelines were developed.
According to Hayden, there are a total of five theories and they are as followed: 1.Identify the
health issue or problem and the population affected 2.Gather information about the issues or
population or both 3.Identify possibly reasons or causes for the problem 4.Identify... Show more

In my opinion, safe sex on college campuses would not be as much of an issue if practicing safe
sex were promoted more. According to Dr. Berman, only 22 schools in the nation currently
require sex education in schools. It can be understood that this subject is something people
believe parents should cover. However, let s be honest, not all teenagers want to talk about sex in
general with their parents. When the matter is not taken more serious at earlier ages, the behavior
and acceptance of having unsafe sex possibly continues on into adulthood. According to O
Sullivan, the practice of unsafe sex is most commonly due to an individual s lack of knowledge of
what safe sex actually mean and what all is included. They believe that safe sex is just another
form of birth control. However, safe sex is not just a method of birth control, it includes other
components, but most importantly, a means of preventing one from receiving or passing along

The History Of Xavier University
Bishop Edward Fenwick of Cincinnati, founded the Athenaeum, a college dedicated to religion and
liberal arts, on October 17, 1831. It was the first Catholic institution of higher learning in Ohio and
in the Northwest Territory and the sixth oldest Catholic university in the nation. In 1840 the Jesuits
took control of the Athenaeum, renaming it St. Xavier Collegein honor of the founder of the Society
of Jesus. The college received its charter status from the state of Ohioin 1842. In 1912 the Xavier
campus moved from downtown Cincinnati to about 5 miles north in North Avondale. However, the
school s name changed a second time to its current name, Xavier University, in 1930. To sum up,
Xavier University has a long and rich history which is still being written today.

The average amount of students per class is roughly 20 people. With their being such a low
student count the tuition for Xavier is extremely high with approximately $52,380 per year or
about $210,000 for a four year degree. A special thing to note about Xavier University is that
they have had a president who has been in office since 2001. Michael J. Graham, the 34th
president of Xavier University, and is following a legacy of an almost 180 year old tradition.
Xavier University is well known for their men s basketball program under the name, the Xavier
Musketeers. The white, silver and navy blue team recently have made it to the Elite Eight during
the 2017 season. Notably, Xavier s other athletic programs have no other memorable moments
except for Karyn Juziuk s NCAA Rifle Championship win in 1998, which is the only championship
for Xavier University. Xavier has

Examples Of Visual Persuasion And Propaganda In Mass Media

Visual persuasion and propaganda in mass media: example of Putin s covers in Time magazine
As we have seen throughout the course visual communication techniques play significant role in
our life since it touches upon almost every sphere starting from social aspects to political ones.
These techniques are not important per se but rather there is a particular purpose they seek. One of
these purposes is persuasion. According to Lester (p. 77): communication is fundamentally and
essentially a matter of persuasion, attitude change, behavior modification, and socialization through
the transmission of information . Images are an essential part of the visual persuasion, which
modern mass media incorporates. As we have observed in our readings this visual persuasion can
take different forms in order to be the most effective and to achieve its goal. Lester states that: most
information, whether factual or not, is communicated through the mass media. More and more that
information relies on the emotional appeal inherent in visual presentations (ibid). Moreover:
pictures have always been the surest way of conveying an idea (ibid). One of the brightest examples
is the covers of different newspapers and journals that not only demonstrate the certain attitude and
opinion toward particular topics but also try to make the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, the cover has an alarming color of red. Besides, the left side of Putin s face is covered
with the crowd protesting. Not occasionally the color of the cover is red. According to Garber
and Hayatt (314): color is a powerful and salient persuasive communication tool . Furthermore,
1987 study showed that apart from love and passion red color symbolized danger and strength
(316). The cover seems to state that actions that Putin has undertaken are inherently bad and Putin
himself is portrayed as evil being the key source of

  • 2. Cuban Revolution Women Throughout the Cuban Revolution women made significant strides towards gender equality. Pre revolution Cuban women had been confined in constricting gender roles of Hispanic tradition. Female group and activists began to take action in many non traditional activities. Women broke tradition by leaving the home and joining in revolutionary movements. The struggle for women s equality in Cuban society is referred to as Revolution within a Revolution due to the many revolutionary changes for women that were brought about during the Cuban Revolution. Under Cubas new government women attained their right to an education, the ability to have a job outside of the home, child care was available, and women gained access to birth control. The Cuban Revolution The Cuban Revolution took place as a revolt to overthrow the Cuban Dictator Fulgencio Batista. Fidel Castro s 26th of July Movement along with their allies lead the revolt beginning in 1953 against the right wing dictatorial government of Cuba. Batista first came to power when the government of Carlos Manuel de Cespedes y Quesada was overthrown during the 1933 Revolt of Sergeants. After, Batista made himself chief of the armed forces, ranked as a colonel. He efficaciously took control of the five member pentarchy which functioned as the collective head of state. He held these titles for the years leading up until he was then elected President of Cuba in 1940. After his four year long term as president he took ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Scott Fitzgerald s life and work were in a knot from the start; his profession spanned one of the most tumultuous eras of the century, and from the very start he was the creator and the victim of the new culture of celebrity which accompanied the rise of modern technology. Budd Schulberg masterfully created a character that closely and in many ways represents Fitzgerald in his later years; Manley Halliday is that character. His mind s eye, incurably bifocal, could never stop searching for the fairy tale maiden who made his young manhood a time of bewitchment, when springtime was the only season and the days revolved on a lovers spectrum of sunlight, twilight, candlelight and dawn. The Effects Of Repetitive Head Impact On Athletes Essay Over the years, the demand for research on the cognitive and neuropathological consequences of repetitive head impacts in athletes has been an uprise in the sports medicine field. Then at the age Twenty Five he was standing on a stage in front of over half of a million people, who were there to see him. All he was, was a frustrated artist, trying to learn to read music. When analyzing the cost structures between the two systems, the results show that the share of fixed costs in the overall transportation cost is much high in Europe versus North America. When transporting freight by railway in North America, rail companies look for the shortest route for each train car while European rail companies devote their focus to the high utilization and consolidation in each train car. There are still many challenges that are hindering the future development in globalized trade. Environmental issues, energy demands and issues in the supply chain field are just a few of these challenges. An example of the energy issue would be the ongoing fluctuations in energy costs. Freight and air transportation both depend on petroleum. Typically, the times of higher energy prices creates a rationalization in the international trade market and the underlying supply chains. Many the global policies and guidelines in the European Union rest within each member s state. Due to this, the effectiveness of the European Union guidance relies on the willingness of member states to adopt the policy. One of the greatest outcomes of the European Union applying and sticking to their rules was the reduction in custom clearances at a nation s border. Before January 1993, every truck was stopped at every border for tax clearance, customs check and your usual vehicle inspection. Overall, they were looking for a way to create a more effective market environment for goods being transported within Europe. Often, I am asked what this really is, and how it truly effects me. Life can sometimes feel as if a lead blanket is on top of me, weighing me down and preventing me from even moving. The chemical balance in my brain feels like a father yelling at his child to do something, and my body simply responds with apathy, a yawn towards the world s responsibilities. By this logic, if a child grows up in a household with the aforementioned helicopter parents, they are likely to treat their offspring in the same manner, even if they are aware of the damage it may have caused them, because subconsciously they do not know how else to treat a child.
To solve this problem of generational trauma, the conversation has to begin that Millennial, Generation Z , and future generations should be self aware and open about the adversity they have faced from their parents. • 9. Symptoms And Treatment Of Ptsd Veterans It is evident that reforms are necessary within the VA system and society in regards to PTSD and veterans. How can the American veterans be better taken care of? I will focus on the following four specific issues that are in need of reform, 1.How can wait times be decreased for veterans seeking mental health treatment? 2.How can the stigma attached to PTSD in veterans be eliminated? 3.How can veterans receive immediate assistance in times of crisis? 4.How can we ensure that diagnosed PTSD veterans will continue treatment after receiving full monetary compensation? Focusing on these research questions, I propose to conduct research on decreasing wait times for PTSD related appointments, reducing, or eliminating, the stigma attached to PTSD in veterans, providing a way for veterans to receive immediate PTSD crisis help, and a way to ensure that veterans diagnosed with PTSD continue treatment. Veterans often experience long wait times to schedule an appointment for PTSD. Through additional research I have found that according to a study in 2003 by the American Legion, of approximately 300,000 veterans waiting for health care, over half of them had been waiting over eight months for an appointment (American Legion, 2013). I further researched how many VA facilities in the United States offer specialized treatment for PTSD. In all 50 states, and Washington, DC, there are a total of 139 facilities (US Department of Veterans Affairs, 2015). I propose to conduct a telephone ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But, human nature being what it is, fundamental change is often resisted mightily by the people it most affects: those in the trenches of the business. Thus, leading change is both absolutely essential and incredibly difп¬Ѓcult. Perhaps nobody understands the anatomy of organizational change better than retired Harvard Business School professor John P Kotter. They worry that employees with seniority will become defensive, that morale will drop, that events will spin out of control, that short term business results will be jeopardized, that the stock will sink, and that they will be blamed for creating a crisis. A paralyzed senior management often comes from having too many managers and not enough leaders. Management s mandate is to minimize risk and to keep the current system operating. Change, by deп¬Ѓnition, requires creating a new system, which in turn always demands leadership. Phase one in a renewal process typically goes nowhere until enough real leaders are promoted or hired into senior level jobs. Transformations often begin, and begin well, when an organization has a new head who is a good leader and who sees the need for a major change. If the renewal target is the entire company, the CEO is key. If change is needed in a division, the division general manager is key. • 14. Geographic Information Systems ( Gis ) Geographic Information Systems (GIS) has had one of the biggest impacts on the discipline of modern day geography. Roger Tomlinson coined the term GIS in the early 1960s in Canada. Tomlinson defined GIS in its early days as a computer application designed to perform certain specific functions (Coppock et al; 1991). GIS is interdisciplinary in nature, having a distinctive role in geography. The application created for the Canada GIS department was designed to summarize and tabulate land inventory for the country; it solved two issues: to measure irregular homogeneous geographic areas and to overlay different themes. Other early systems were created for the Chicago Area Transportation Study, the U.S. Census Bureau and Landscape... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From this perspective, GIS on its own is meaningless; it gains meaning only by its goals, which generally involve the application of knowledge by scientists, but not science itself (Table 1; McCauley 1993; Moll 1993; Skelly 1993b). Discussants view it the same as remote sensing, it is a tool. Some scientist would argue that GIS is a part of the engineering field more than it is in the science field. Engineering is identified as a problem solving activity and science is linked to discovery and problem solving understandings. It is also felt that GIS is a tool used by geographers to answer geographic questions, thus a tool only applied when going about the business of geography, so it is geography. Other theorists believe that the tool is inseparable from the science. When GIS advances, so does the study of Geography and Cartography. Geographers are GIS toolmakers. They understand the concepts, methods, models and theories that are behind the tool. They also understand how a phenomenon is dispersed shown through the tool and knowledge of geographic concepts. This leads to the thought that if you can do GIS, then you do geography so therefore if one is a science the other must be a science as well. The science debate over GIS is that it is a method and or a body of knowledge used to develop and test spatial theories and hypothesis. Many believe that it is not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The conclusion made by the Americans is that it was that shifts in tactics, or weather may have changed the result of the war, but it would seem that Britain s training and leadership did decide the outcome. It is clear that the 25,000 men of the task force that sailed from Portsmouth in April 1982 were one of the most experianced, and certainly best trained forces that Britain had ever sent to war. Both of which had been attempted previously. The Argentines had four submarines at the outbreak of the war but had lost one when South Georgia was recaptured in April. The remaining subs faced having to get close enough to within torpedo range of a fleet, whose objective was anti submarine, and had the best training and weapons to defend against this type of threat. Still, the Argentine submarines did sail and apparently launched torpedoes, although they did no harm to the British aircraft carriers. Consultants began to realize that they were underpaid relative to their market opportunities. Auditing partners resented the fact that the consultants wanted a higher share of the profits. The auditing partners, who controlled the managing board, made few concessions to the consulting partners. In response, a number of the top consultants left Andersen for other firms or to start their own consulting businesses. Because of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 22. Compare And Contrast Feminism And Liberal Feminism Whilst many disagreements have arisen in feminist discourse over the years, none has been quite as prevalent or divisive as the issue of the commodification of sexuality. There are two central groups in feminist ideology that are divided on this issue, liberal feminism and radical feminism. Liberal feminismis influenced by the ideas and values of liberalism. Thus, these feminists share a contractarian view which places an emphasis on a woman s ability to make choices for herself and that the selling of one s sexuality is merely an expression of that choice. Paradoxically, radical feminists believe that because women live in a patriarchal society, the commodification of sexuality can never be a choice or a form of expression. Rather, forms of sexual commodification such as pornography and prostitution just enforce male oppression. This essay will explore these two ideological positions in regard to their divergent definitions of human nature and freedom which has created a division within feminism about the commodification of sexuality. Liberal feminism is grounded in the ideological framework of liberalism and therefore shares a commonality with liberal themes of human nature. Whilst acknowledging the biological differences between sexes, early liberal feminists argued that prevailing liberal ideas should also be applied to women. Therefore, both men and women possesses natural rights, they should have equal rights under law and share equal opportunity (Beasley 1999). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She has always had a passion for animals and science; she found biology to be her favorite subject in school. She was fascinated by the visual impacts of science through books. Perhaps, it is her enthusiasm for biology that inspired her to be one of the leading biochemists today. Elizabeth helped in the discovery of the fountain of youth. Elizabeth and two of her colleagues discovered a way for chromosomes to be copied during cell division. Within this discovery, they also found a unique DNAsequence in the telomeres that protects these cells against degradation. In 2009, Dr. Blackburn was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine. Blackburn was born in 1948, in the city of Hobart in Tasmania, Australia. Elizabeth is the second oldest of seven children. • 28. The Oil Curse, By Michael Ross The discovery of oil in a low income country is often met with both excitement and dread. Many theories circle around the idea of a resource curse that supposedly affects countries with large amounts of resources. The resource curse essentially dictates that a country with large amounts of resources is not as likely to thrive as a country with low levels of resources. The issue with this view is that it generalizes too much; there is just as much variance in the levels of economic success between resource rich countries as there is between them and resource scarce countries. This is why this newly found oil in this country does not necessarily need to be met with dread, as there is a chance for success. However, this newly found potential for wealth needs to be handled with extreme care. In the following memo I will outline what the resource curseis, why some countries are affected by it and others not, and finally I will outline how this country should handle its newly found oil wealth. Michael Ross in his book The Oil Curse, analyzes in great detail the effects of oil on a country s economic, political, and social environment. Ross argues that resource curse is not the appropriate terminology; it is more accurately a mineral curse , as countries are generally not affected by other types of resources. (Ross, p.1) In fact, oil and natural gas tend to be the most common villains of the resource curse. Humphreys, Sachs, and Stiglitz hypothesize that countries with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Analysis Of Louise Gluck s Poem Threshing In this journal entry I will be discussing Louise Gluck s poem Threshing. Louis Gluck centers her poem around the simple day in day out lives, that is themselves talk about the way we sometimes refuse to change our own lives, while the poem uses the sun as an element as the endless loop that is life and how we keep it the way it is. Threshing s main element is the sun. In many ways, as you read the poem, you can see that the sun can be seen as the main character in the poem. It dictates the working men s work, their timeof relaxing, how long they are alond to feel free during their time or relaxing, when they must go back to their stressful home life and when they must return back to work as though it is an endless in escapable loop... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They wake up, go to work, work the full day, come home, and deal with their seemingly difficult families. They don t search for a better way of life even though they drink and are displeased with how their home life is. They seem pleased with their work. It is uncomplicated, like them. They do the physical work, get paid, and go home. The displeasure doesn t come from their working life, but from the displeasing wives they live with. They don t seem to seek better women to be with. They stay with the woman they are unhappy with and use their work as an escape instead. It is possible that they create their own stress with their own inner issues that they project as the women being the root of it, pointing the finger away from themselves so they will never have to go through the process improving themselves. They are unable or unwilling to change or work to improve their lives which, in total, leave them stuck in an endless unchanging loop much like the rising and setting of the sun. In all, Louise Gluck s poem Threshing talks about more than the rising and setting of the sun, and the Picasso painting of the working day ofg these men. The poem implies the connections of the patterns we keep ourselves in if we aren t open to change and self improvement, and the endlessness of it as time passes. Another characteristic that differentiate between business to business market demand and business to consumer is that business to business products tend to have inelastic demand (Hutt amp; Speh, 2010). This principle shows that business to business product has demand characteristics with no correlation with price. BD had increased the price of its evacuated blood collection tube between 1979 to 1985 from 6 cents per unit to 8 cents per unit, where as its competitor, Terumo, a Japanese firm has kept its price at 6.5 cents per unit. However, BD has not lost its market share, which was kept at roughly 80 per cent while Terumo had increased its market share from 10 per cent to 20 per cent (Cespedes amp; Rangan, 1993). This change in market share for Terumo, can be explained by other means rather than arguing that Terumo, by keeping its price, absorbing any cost increases and inflation, has created an elastic demand like in business to consumer. This argument is highlighted in the fact that in the market for blood collection needles in the same period, even though both BD and Terumo had kept its per unit price at 7.5 cents, BD market share has dropped from 40 per cent to 30 BD while Terumo doubled its market share from 25 per cent to 50 per cent (Cespedes amp; Rangan, 1993). It was that simple for them, and they could get right back to what they were doing, and meet their deadline. Nowadays, farmers can not do that. The Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998 creates it so farmers do not have the right to fix their own tractors, because of the programming that is in those said tractors. That programming is set so that only certain people can log into the program and push a few buttons on a computer and whala, its fixed. They do not come on the exact date that you break down though. The farmer would have to wait a few days, or find a way to get their machinery all the way to the dealer to get fixed. That is where the catch comes in. Many people think that taking their equipment to the dealer will take a short amount of time, but instead, that could take multiple weeks at a time. Farmers, do not have that kind of time. They need to get things done at a certain deadline, as fast as they can, which means that they need to have their equipment fixed as fast as they can now. • 34. How Successfully Did the Conservative Party Adapt to the... When assessing the various intricate denouements of the late Victorian and Edwardian periods of the British political history, one must stop and wonder about the performance of the Conservative party as one of the protagonists of the parliamentary struggles and changing social and demographic scenarios. By engaging in such exploration, it is almost impossible to avoid one of the most formidable questions which might consequentially arise was the Conservative partya deliberate and conscious derivative of the changing political climate or merely a spontaneous chain reaction driven by luck and circumstance? The answer to this question may be crucial for understanding the nature of the party s success/failure. In order to explain why this very nature may be the crux of articulating Conservative politics during these two historical periods, we will use the analogy of Real vs. Nominal wages . The simplest and most concise way of explaining the difference between real and nominal wages is by providing an example. If one was to get a raise which amounts to extra 10% of the original value, there is no guarantee that the raise will amount to a wider set of opportunities. The improvement of one s overall financial well being is grounded within the concept of real wage. The mere increase in nominal wage has no implications if not adjusted for inflation. Moreover, if the inflation rate was to exceed the percentage change of the salary, the worker would actually end up being worse off ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Celiac disease is a digestive disorder that causes people to have problems consuming foods containing the protein gluten. It causes damage to their small intestine and may lead to other illnesses. Because of this people with celiac disease have to avoid eating foods made from the grains wheat, rye, barley and triticale because they all contain the protein gluten.(3) In addition people with celiac disease have to avoid foods that may have been manufactured, processed or mixed with any gluten which is why it is not a surprise that oats falls on the list of foods to avoid as oats are often harvested and stored or processed in the same facilities and machines as wheat we have to look specifically for gluten free oats. I do know do much of their field as I am still learning but I know Harry, as a recovering dispatch rider, is doing well. He has healed from his leg wound but they are considering rendering him invalid as he will never have the same movement back required to be the dispatch rider. He cannot be moved to defence as he has no experience but he may soon be at home joining you. As you must know, I have been promoted to the Royal Field of Artillery. I am not on the front line but somewhat close to it. My field of expertise has helped me reach this position of somewhat recognisable and respectable authority. So far in the war the Royal Field of Artillery has by far decimated the most lives on the enemy s side.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These rodents have overstayed their welcome and brought along some guests of their own, lice and fleas. On top of all this the trenches and never dry and there has been an overwhelming number of cases of trench foot. All is well though, as I am not nearly close to the enemy trenches but I can still hear the gut wrenching, deafening screams of the victims of crossfire. However, there have still been many airstrikes in my trenches and many of my mates have suffered from shell shock and fell due to impact. Apart from airstrikes and the sickening tremors of the ground, the only other presence of the enemy is the almost nightly mustard gas attacks. We have gas masks and as long as they are on in time, we are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. American Revolution Dbq The colonists were upset about Parliament and Britain; which lead them to create the American Revolution. The American Revolution was not justified and unreasonable. The colonists were overreacting about Parliament s laws and Britain. The colonists were needed to pay the taxes in order to help the British pay for the war. Most of their riots and protests forced Parliament make more law to the colonies and made their problem worse. In addition, this would affect their economy. Because the British helped the colonists for the French and Indian War, they would need to tax the colonists in order to pay for it. • 43. The Great Eastern Research Paper The Great Eastern, the 18,915 tonne ship was an iron sailing steam ship designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, and built by J. Scott Russell Co. It was created and launched at Millwall on the River Thames, London. It was by far the biggest ship ever built at the time of its 1858 launch. It had the capacity to carry up to 4,000 passengers from England to Australia without requiring additional fuel. The length of the Great Eastern was 692 feet (211 m). The Great Eastern was the only ship completely built from metal. Just for comparison, the Titanic was built 60 years later in 1915 and was 190 ft longer, 10 ft wider and weighed 33,395 tonnes more than the Great Eastern. Each iron plate weighed a third of a ton and required 6 men to lift it. 30,000 iron plates were required to complete to structure of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On 25 March 1852, Brunel made a sketch of a steamship in his diary and wrote beneath it: Say 600 ft x 65 ft x 30 ft (180 m x 20 m x 9.1 m). These measurements were six times larger by volume than any ship afloat. Brunel realised that the ship would need more than one propulsion system; since twin screws were still very much experimental, he settled on a combination of a single screw and paddle wheels, with auxiliary sail power. Using paddle wheels meant that the ship would be able to reach Calcutta, where the Hooghly River was too shallow for screws. Brunel showed his idea to John Scott Russell, an experienced naval architect and ship builder whom he had first met at the Great Exhibition. Scott Russel examined Brunel s plan and made his own calculations to see if it could be done. He calculated that it would have a displacement of 20,000 tons and would require 8,500 horsepower (6,300 kW) to achieve 14 knots (26 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. Safe Sex On College Campuses Trying to choose a theory is never an easy task. In my opinion, there can be a group of six individuals, each given the task of picking a theory to utilize, and every one of them could potentially pick a different theory. The reason being, everyone has their own personal experiences and understanding of what works best, or feels more comfortable executing. With health education, there are many theories available to choose from, because of that, guidelines were developed. According to Hayden, there are a total of five theories and they are as followed: 1.Identify the health issue or problem and the population affected 2.Gather information about the issues or population or both 3.Identify possibly reasons or causes for the problem 4.Identify... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In my opinion, safe sex on college campuses would not be as much of an issue if practicing safe sex were promoted more. According to Dr. Berman, only 22 schools in the nation currently require sex education in schools. It can be understood that this subject is something people believe parents should cover. However, let s be honest, not all teenagers want to talk about sex in general with their parents. When the matter is not taken more serious at earlier ages, the behavior and acceptance of having unsafe sex possibly continues on into adulthood. According to O Sullivan, the practice of unsafe sex is most commonly due to an individual s lack of knowledge of what safe sex actually mean and what all is included. They believe that safe sex is just another form of birth control. However, safe sex is not just a method of birth control, it includes other components, but most importantly, a means of preventing one from receiving or passing along ... • 47. Examples Of Visual Persuasion And Propaganda In Mass Media Aizhan Akhmetbek Visual persuasion and propaganda in mass media: example of Putin s covers in Time magazine As we have seen throughout the course visual communication techniques play significant role in our life since it touches upon almost every sphere starting from social aspects to political ones. These techniques are not important per se but rather there is a particular purpose they seek. One of these purposes is persuasion. According to Lester (p. 77): communication is fundamentally and essentially a matter of persuasion, attitude change, behavior modification, and socialization through the transmission of information . Images are an essential part of the visual persuasion, which modern mass media incorporates. As we have observed in our readings this visual persuasion can take different forms in order to be the most effective and to achieve its goal. Lester states that: most information, whether factual or not, is communicated through the mass media. More and more that information relies on the emotional appeal inherent in visual presentations (ibid). Moreover: pictures have always been the surest way of conveying an idea (ibid). One of the brightest examples is the covers of different newspapers and journals that not only demonstrate the certain attitude and opinion toward particular topics but also try to make the ...
