Pre Islamic Period Of Arabian People
Shadhan Al Mahrouqi Rifat Dika Arabic 399 9/30/2015 Pre Islamic Period of Arabian People
Religion is a complicated multi dimensional phenomenon that embraces all the spheres of people
s lives. Therefore, to analyze the meaning and objective effects of any religion, the researchers
need to study e a particular society before the appearance of religion. It is common knowledge
that understanding beliefs requires awareness of sociological, political, economic, psychological
and philosophical life of a particular society. This paper is aimed to explore the Arabian society s
condition in Pre Islamic period and to prove that the spread of Muslimism has considerably
improved people s well being, creating political and social structure. Pre Islamic... Show more

Thus, the analysis should be performed on the basis of religious, political, economic and social
conditions of Pre Islamic Arabia rather than geographical description of the region.
Nevertheless, the desert location of the land played not the last role in the formation of its
radically different social dynamics as compared to Egypt, Iran and other territories. First of all,
Pre Islamic society had no political organization, including the absence of government. The
matter is that Arabs accepted moral authority of their tribe s chief, while any governmental
leaders were not acknowledged. The absence of government meant that Arabs had no order and
law, whereas the behavior of individuals was regulated by victim s decision to bring the
offender to justice, which led to lawlessness and cruelty (Berkey 40; Razwy n.pag.). The
researcher Rodinson in his work states that the free Arabs were bound by no written code of
law, and no state existed to enforce its statutes with the backing of a police force (Rodinson
190.). The factors that interrupted the Arabs from constant violence included the fear of vendetta
and reprisals. Rodinson adds: The only protection for a man s life was the certainty established
by custom, that it would be dearly bought. Blood for blood and a life for a life. The vendetta, tha
r in Arabic, is one of the pillars of Bedouin society (215). Thus, Pre Islamic people s understanding

Hundred Year s War
The Hundred Year s War was marked by one hundred seventeen continuous years of warfare
between the Kingdom of France and the Kingdom of England, specifically a power struggle
between Philip VI and Edward III. Not only did this war, mark the end of English attempts to
control continental territory and the birth of the nation state of Francebut as well among the
immediate and long standing consequences was a reconstruction of British and French Culture.
During this time of warfare, an Englishman by the name of Thomas Tuberville, [was] taken
prisoner by the French in 1295, [and] was released on the condition that he act as a spy at the
English court where, however, he eventually aroused suspicion, was arrested, tried, and executed

To support this claim, I plan to focus on Joan of Arc Letter to the English on the 22 nd of March
1429, Allmond s exploration of hosting laws and Roger Bacon s letter. In the letter to the English,
Joan of Arc warns the King of England to retract from war or expect to face physical violence.
Despite Joan of Arc later downfall by treason, her letter as a servant of the French kingdom
illustrates that nationalism grew at the expense of rigid international relations. In order to further
explore the international animosity that grew, as well I plan to explore the hosting laws [that
were established] whereby alien merchants would be kept under effective guard by being obliged
to go to host with known and reliable Englishmen who would vouch for their good behavior while
they were residing in England due to a fear of spies (Allmond,43). Lastly Roger Bacon in his
letter, on the other hand, elaborates on how authors hid their secrets by means of special letters,
devised by their own ingenuity and will, and different from those which are anywhere in use ending
the once promoted admiration of military skills during the prominence of chivalry

Why The French Revolutionaries View The Months Of The...
In 1793, the National Convention in Paris created a new calendar for the French republic. The
new calendar renamed the months of the Gregorian calendar and rearranged them so that each
month contained three weeks of ten days each; at the end of each year there were five days of
festivals dedicated to virtue, intelligence, labor, opinion, and rewards. This calendar was kept in
place until 1806 when it was abolished by Napoleon. The National Convention and other republican
groups cited many reasons for the adoption of a new calendar, including ridding the republic of the
old regime and implementing a more reasonable system. Although the revolutionaries viewed the
calendar as an improvement, others were quick to point out its flaws. Among the

The Importance Of Setting In The Great Gatsby
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, is a fictional novel that takes place in four main settings.
These settings include West Egg, East Egg, The Valley of the Ashes, and New York City. These
four settings are literary tools in which the author uses to highlight the idea of the various failures
and disappointments of the American Dream. This paper will compare and contrast the settings of
The Valley of Ashes and New York City in The Great Gatsby
. The Valley of Ashes is a wasteland
and desolate place, located between East and West Egg and New York City. The quote where

One way is that at times, New York City can seem smoky like the Valley of the Ashes due to the
fog that rolls in from the coast. These two settings can also compare in relation to land size. The
Valley of Ashes and New York City also compare in the way that Tom and Gatsby both only use
the city to hide their matters from people. Tom only interacts with his mistress in the city, and
Gatsby only sees Meyer Wolfsheim there. There are although many ways that these two settings
contrast. The Valley of Ashes is dry, grey and dirty in comparison to New York City which is a
busy city with green grass and lush parks with many different types of people. The Valley of
Ashes symbolizes the plight of the poor, and the individuals who live among the dirty ashes lose
their spirit as a result. New York City on the other hand, exudes hopes, dreams, and an atmosphere
of wild parties and indulgences.
In conclusion, The Great Gatsby features settings that perfectly captures character, mood,
atmosphere, and emotions. The Valley of the Ashes is represented as the moral and social decay of
America, and New York City is the uninhibited immoral quest for money and

Cultural Revolution Mao
A revolution is not an apple that falls when it is ripe. You have to make it fall
Evaluate the accuracy of this statement in relation to the causes of the Chinese cultural revolution
A revolution is not an apple that falls when it is ripe. You have to make it fall. This statement by
Che Guevara suggests that in order for a revolution to occur, the leaders must not hesitate, but
rather, they should take immediate and effective actions. This quote is particularly accurate for the
Chinese Cultural Revolution, because the main leader of the Revolution Mao Zedong was able to
manipulate the public, thus enabling him to bring about a revolution. The Cultural Revolution
occurred as a result of the failures in the Great Leap Forward, and officially, Mao claimed that the
goal of the Chinese Cultural Revolution is to build a society surrounding the proletariats by
bringing back revolutionary spirit. However, it became increasingly clear that Mao s real intentions
were rather personal, as he used the Cultural Revolution to re establish his power as the Chairman
of the Communist Party of China.
The Cultural Revolution was Mao s response to the disasters of the Great Leap Forward, during
which at least 30 million Chinese people starved to death in the span of 5 years (Ben Walsh). In
1959, Mao admitted that I also have an indirect share of the blame... I don t want other people to
shirk their responsibility. (Phillip Short). This suggests that even though Mao was aware that his

Industry Analysis
The New York City Police Department was established in 1845 with the primary responsibilities
in law enforcement and investigation. The NYPD are responsible for five boroughs of New York
City. New York City is comprised of 5 counties that are referred to as boroughs, the NYPD is
operationally divided into 8 patrol boroughs. The Patrol Boroughs are Manhattan South, Manhattan
North, Bronx, Brooklyn South, Brooklyn North, Queens South, Queens North, and Staten Island.
The commands in the facilities consist of 77 precincts, 12 transit districts and 9 housing police
service areas. There are approximately 34,500 police officers in the NYPD
The NYPD are very familiar with situations like shooting unarmed citizens. The shooting of
Deborah Danner; mentally ill 66 year old women shot down due to having a baseball bat in hand.
The past shooting of Amadou Diallo; 23 year old African American man shot 44 times for a
misunderstanding of a wallet in his hand. Circumstances such as these cases repeat time and time
again. Shooting unarmed is the result of excessive force. Officers are trained to be one step ahead
of individuals when handling them. That one step has been abused by uneducated officers and

Doped Fullerene Lab Report
A DFT STUDY OF METALLOID DOPED FULLERENES C19X (X = Si, B) INTERACTING

Abstract
The relative stability and possibility of electronic, magnetic, structural properties and NBO analysis
of doped fullerenes were examined based on density functional theory calculations. The bond angle
and exciton binding energy of doped fullerene interacting with L Alanine generated a more stable
structure compared to fullerene C20. The doped fullerene interacting with amino acid is discussed
in terms of bond length, bond angle, dipole moment, Energy gap, global reactivity descriptors,
NBO and NMR analysis. The dissociation energy (∆E) value of C19Si L Alanine is more stable
compared to fullerene C20 structure. These results show that Si doped ... Show more content on

The molecular surface of doped fullerene can interact with amino acids or biomolecule to give
strong surface properties. The interacting metals lower the energy gap values which promote the
interaction of the compounds. The metal ion increases and chemical interactions are also
increasing. Vibrational frequencies have determined the minimum energy structure and not a
transition state. Optimized structure resulting from the position of the metal with respect to the
doped fullerene cage ensures the global minimum reactivity descriptors, Mulliken and NBO atomic
charges. It suggests that the formation of acceptor donor systems between doped fullerene

Essay about The Endless Cycle of the American Cockroach
The American cockroach was introduced to the United States from Africa as early as 1625. They
belong to the Kingdom: Animalia, Phylum: Arthropoda, Class: Insecta (Insecta: Blattodea:
Blattidae), Order: Dictyoptera, and Family: Blattidae. Its common name is American cockroach
and scientific name is Periplaneta Americana (Linnaeus). American cockroaches are normally
between one and one and a half inches in length. They are oval shaped and reddish brow with
yellow fringes on the area of the body behind the head as adults. They hide in dark crevices during
the day, which could include: sewer and drainage systems, cracks and crevices of a house, steam
tunnels, large institutional buildings and basements. They emerge at night to hunt for food.... Show

The male cockroaches have cerci with 18 to 19 segments while the female has 13 to 14
segments. The male American cockroaches have a pair of styli between the cerci while the
females do not. The life cycle from egg to adult averages about 600 days; and the adult life span
may be another 400 days. Adult females will produce an average of 150 offspring in her lifetime.
Environmental factors such as temperature and humidity can increase or decrease the
developmental time of the American cockroach.
American cockroaches can become a health problem due to their association with human waste and
disease. At least 22 species of pathogenic human bacteria, virus, fungi, and protozoans, as well as
five species of helminthic worms, have been collected from American Cockroaches. Cockroaches
crawl through dirty areas and then walk around our homes bringing in lots of bacteria and germs.
They can contaminate food by shedding their skins and leaving their waste around, which can
trigger allergic reactions, asthma and other illnesses, especially in children. These pests can
contaminate food, causing food poisoning, dysentery, or diarrhea. They can create an unpleasant
smell in the home or building which they infest.
Some of the coolest things I ve learned about my insect: A cockroach can live almost a month
without food, about two weeks without water and one week without its head! Some female
cockroaches only mate once and stay pregnant for life!

Why We Need Healthcare Reform in America Essay
The American Healthcare industry is in dire need of repair. Not only is it in need or repair, the
American public needs to know why and what exactly it is that needs to be repaired. Most
Americans who have healthcare coverage don t know or understand what their coverage entails. On
November 8, 2009, the house passed H.R. 3962, which establishes standards for healthcare and
health insurance, as well as a government provided public option for those who can t afford
coverage. Politicians are so divided on the issue that conservatives have promised to block passage

Barely half of those with incomes of 200 percent to 299 percent of the poverty level were
insured all year with adequate coverage. (Schoen) In fact, many middle class urban American s
can t either. In 2007, the number of underinsured persons was up to an estimated 25 million; up
60 percent from 2003. (Schoen) This means that, all over the nation, there are more underinsured
than unemployed. 25 million people in 2007 means that 12 out of every 100 people in this
country are potentially unable to find the medical treatment they may require. It s not just those
who are out of work that, for whatever reason, do not have adequate health coverage. Many small
businesses can t afford to supply coverage to their employees, and larger corporations are moving

Patients in the United States pay more for less with the current healthcare system. They spend more

paying more money for a lower standard than every other industrialized nation. Every country has a
different system of healthcare, most of which are better than the current system used by the United
States in terms of financial burden on the patient.
Comparatively, health care coverage costs more for the middle class and provides less coverage
than that of upper class or poverty level patients. When insurance is offered, it is becoming
increasingly unaffordable for

Let Gays Marry and Leave Marriage Alone Essay
I will summarize some of the key points from the essay, Let Gays Marry, by Andrew Sullivan, and
the essay, Leave Marriage Alone, by William Bennett. Some of these main points are taken from
mutual beliefs of both authors and others are derived from the opposing opinions of the two.
The first summary of Andrew Sullivan s essay is a reflection of Andrew Sullivan s stance of the
issue. The original essay was in favor of allowing same sex marriage in America. My summary will
dictate some of the arguments that I found to be the most persuasive and important to Sullivan s
case. The second summary is of Bennett s essay, Leave Marriage Alone. I will, again, try to point
out the most influential pieces of argument in the essay.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a basis for these arguments, Sullivan believes that marriage is an important key to the
progression of homosexual equality in America.
Sullivan is aware of certain churches and religious affiliates that would be in opposition to the
marrying of gay couples. Sullivan explains that homosexuals pushing for the permission of gay
marriage do not intend to change the doctrines or traditions of any church. The movement s actual
desire is the fundamental right to marriage.
Sullivan reiterates the hopes of the gay community by expressing their longing for recognition
before the law as a married couple. Gays are essentially making the simple request that they be
given the same marriage license as any other couple in America who wishes to be married.
Advocates of homosexual marriage say they are aiming to strengthen and become a part of the
institution. Bennett disagrees and implores that if they were allowed to follow through, and be
accepted as an active part of the institution of marriage, they would be, in turn, destroying the very
foundations of marriage.
Bennett deems that allowing gays to marry would have a profound influence on society. The
change from the traditional ideals of marriage would completely redefine the conventional
definition of marriage. Simply allowing gays to marry would contradict some of the worlds major
religions that play

The Role Of The Working Women
Professionalism and employment were once held as an allegation only for men. While men were
working, women were sought out to be innocent and compassionate housewives; only caring for
their homes and families rather than labouring. Throughout history the role of the working women
has progressed drastically, however, the dainty and caring presentation of a womanstill remains to
be a flaw. This flaw has built the fundamental depiction of women in films and television, especially
within the workforce such as espionage. Although espionage is considered a treacherous,

Her stealthy disguise as an exotic dancer was used to an advantage to be a temptress and seduce

powerful female who is now considered a cultural icon. Mata Hari was very successful at her job,
however, to this day women are being portrayed similarly to this character with this sexual
depiction. Women worked harder than being remembered for their appearance rather, as mentioned

The reoccurring motif of the femme fatal spy has been overdone throughout centuries of media

trilogy contain overly sexualized female spies; usually the sidekick. These females although
portrayed as risk takers and vigorous seem to all play the role of seductresses at one point within
their films. For instances, character Foxy Cleopatra in Austin Powers Gold Member is seen
dressed in little to no clothing using her appearance to get closer to the main antagonist Dr Evil.
However, in contrast to the typical role of women in the fictional world of espionage, the film Spy
(2015) directed by Paul Feig depicts the

Meriam People Case Summary
(a)The relationship between the parties in the case
In 1982, five Murray Islanders begun action against the government of Queensland pursuing
assertions of rights to the use and enjoyment of traditional land that had been uninterruptedly
occupied by the Meriam people before and since the takeover by the defendant government.
(b)The primary issue determined by the case
The primary issue that the High Court was asked to consider within Mabo was whether the
Meriam people essentially had native rights in the Murray Islands, and if the people did in fact
have these pre existing rights, whether the Australian law should guard these rights and interests
and thus allow the Meriam people legal recognition to the land in question. (c)A summary of the
reasons of Brennan J. on the primary

also discussed the relevance of the rejection of universal and absolute ownership. He discussed

doctrine of tenure applies to every Crown grant of an interest in land, but not to rights and interests
which do not owe their existence to a Crown grant . Thus, it was accepted by the majority that the
Crown in fact acquired a radical title as opposed to an absolute title upon the acquirement of any
land, and that this radical title would be subject to native title rights in the occurrence that the
appropriate native title rights had not been reasonably or formerly

Ebola virus disease (EBV), or just Ebola, is an acute, often fatal illness, with a case fatality rate
of up to 90%. It is one of a number of haemorrhagic fever diseases. Ebola is a single stranded
RNA virus with an unusual, variable length, branched morphology. The helical capsid is enclosed
inside a membrane.. It is one of the world s most virulent diseases. The Ebolavirus is a member of
the Filoviridae family. There are 5 known subtypes of Ebola. The infection is transmitted by direct
contact with the blood, body fluids and tissues of infected animals or people. The current hypothesis
is that fruit bats are the original host of the virus. Ebola was introduced into the human population

The virus also inhibits interferon which is a molecule that cells make use of to further retard viral
reproduction.
The exact process what happens next is not fully known but the virus attacks the connective tissue
and reproduces at an extremely fast rate in the collagen, digesting the tissue as it goes. The virus
can ultimately cause viral hemorrhagic fever. When the macrophages in our body register the
virus and consume it, they end up becoming infected and are manipulated to release proteins that
trigger coagulation create small clots in the blood. This leads to the blood slowly thickening and
therefore a decreased blood flow. As the clots begin to get stuck in the blood vessels, the patient
begins to exhibit red spots on the skin the rash. As the disease progresses, these clots and their
spots increase in size. Another more serious effect of the Ebola virus s clotting factor is the
decreased blood supply to the vital areas of the body such as the liver, brain, kidneys, lungs,
intestines, testicles and extremities ultimately causing a multi organ failure or septic shock.
The macrophages also produce other inflammatory signalling proteins and nitric oxide, which
damage the lining of blood vessels, causing them to leak and sometimes burst. The content leaks

Risk Management Is A Essential Component Of Any Business
Risk Management is a vital component of any business, especially health care. Risk management
can be generally defined as recognizing, preventing, and monitoring situations that could result in
injury or liability, monetary loss, or noncompliance of regulations (Chubb Health Care, 2004, 9). In
a basic risk managementsystem, risks are identified in separate riskarea. Each risk area is handled
by a different department. It addresses the risks to an organization at the department level. In the

Communication of the risk and its response is timely and appropriately disseminated through the

Comparing Beowulf And Hrothgar s
In Beowulf, both Hrothgar, king of the Spear Danes, and Beowulf, the Geatish hero are attributed
in their society as kings. These two characters role in their society is a major focus. Both Beowulf
and Hrothgar have ruled as king effectively. Beowulf and Hrothgar s job performances and
understanding of their duties, responsibilities, and privileges differ. Hrothgar, a legendary Danish
king, clearly comprehends his responsibility to protect his country and its people. Beowulf, a
previous Geatish hero who has recently been inaugurated as king, is unsure of what his duties are.
During the story, Beowulf transforms from a great warrior to a king. This maturation involves more
than just physical strength. Beowulf s ascendancy requires him to fulfill responsibilities that he did
not have when he was a Geatish hero. When becoming king, Beowulf understands that there are
many responsibilities that kingship entails. Beowulf understands that it is his duty to protect the...

They both know that a warrior fights for respect and honor. Additionally, they agree that a king
should fight in support for the country and its people. Although Beowulf and Hrothgar agree about
the expectations of a king, the performances they had as kings were not equal. Hrothgar s
kingship did not follow attitude of a warrior. A warrior is fearless and courageous, Hrothgar s
decision to not stand up to Grendel displayed fearfulness. He was old an unwilling to fight, he
was not a warrior. In opposition to Hrothgar s dreadful leadership, Beowulf s decisions resembled
that of a true warrior. Beowulf would not feel threatened by the dragon and would risk his life for
the greater good of his people. This highlights the difference between Beowulf and Hrothgar s job
performance. Beowulf remained a warrior despite his ascendancy to kingship, Hrothgar lost the

Response Essay to Islam in the Crusades

The Book of Contemplation / Islam and the Crusades From reading The Book of Contemplation I
feel that the Franks are Inferior to the Muslims, in the eyes of Usama Ibn Munqidh. Throughout the
literature when Usama refers to the Franks, a may God curse them usually follows. Usama rarely
sheds a positive light on the Franks beliefs, actions, or practice of medicine. The first instance of
Usama referencing the Franks was in the story In the service of Nur Al Din (Munqidh 43). In the
story Usamas family and possessions were being transported from Egypt to come to be with him.
For the journey they were granted safe passage from the King of the Franks. Upon arriving to Acre,

Upon arriving they saw the entire army of Antioch rush against the Franks, so they hurried to
seize the advantage over them before the battle finished. One of the horsemen with Usama,
Mahmud, had fallen and when Usama s group turned back to get him another had fallen and put
in a choke hold by a Frankish knight, a few more spear thrusts were able to free him (Munqidh
68). In the story Jum a Accused of Cowardice a few Frankish soldiers came upon a man grazing
his animal (Munqidh 71). The Franks captured the man and his beast, afterwards Usama and his
Uncle had 20 men ride off to rescue the man, shortly after the men turned back because they
carried no spears. Jum a rode off alone in pursuit and attacked the horsemen, chasing them back to
their tents. The lord of Antioch had watched what happened and sent his men to disarm the two
soldiers, after which the lord of Antioch had chastised his men saying One Muslim horseman
chases away two Frankish Knights! You aren t men you re women! In the story The Status of the
Knight among the Franks Usama plainly states a few of his criticizing views of the Franks. The
first sentence of the story says, The Franks (may God confound them) have none of the human
virtues except for courage (Munqidh 76). They have neither precedence nor high rank except that of
the knights it is they who are the masters of legal reasoning, judgment and sentencing (Munqidh

Personal Reflection Of Personal Writing
Hi Professor Savage,
You mention in your email quite a few references to my writing having some serious issues, yet
in the grading not one example was pointed out . I ask that if you believe the same applies to any
part of the draft submission that you highlight at least the one that will explain any significant
point deduction. More, importantly, I would like to know exactly where I can use improvements,
plus I prefer clarity as to where and/or why points were taken off in this class. Sometimes stylistic
choice is mistaken for poor writing or incoherent or illogical as you suggested. I have not come
across any professor that has said so much about my writing (negatively) and not offer any
example. A link in this case is not exactly the solution for all that was implied. Anyhow, my main
goal is to focus on where I can fix it myself, so please. show where, next time thanks.
You said, The essayis not intended to be a personal reflection or a guide for writers but rather an
advocacy for an idea. The journal and notes came across reflective, well, because they re
preliminary tools, the scaffold to the final, right. I understand the draft and final are 3rd POV,
backed by annotation, and my opinion as well, but not delivered as a personal narrative. The
backstory was merely to show I am speaking from some experience. We cannot advocate what we
don t understand, sure credible annotations are needed, but self publishing is a hands on approach,
therefore, subjective, too.
I m concerned about a few things, and then again, not so much knowing all these assignments
leading to the actual final submission are meant to serve us as a form of outline the chaos,
ironed out. As you must be aware brainstorming can happen at any stage. However, I do have a
few comments on some changes you suggested (thanks) and those I have in mind. You said,
concisely, , and I assure you my aim for the final, I don t worry too much at these stages, as I will
rigorously edit, revise and chisel away from the draft, and then polish for the final. Furthermore,
incorporate any feedback if given and are applicable from the workshop and your grading notes. I
m not fond of MindEdge s outline approach, but I do get the gist, while still using what

Idiopathic Epilepsy Research Paper
Epilepsy is a disorder where nerve cell activity in the brain becomes disturbed. This activity causes
sporadic electrical storms in the brain called seizures. During seizures, people experience unusual
behavior and symptoms. There are two major types of epilepsy, idiopathic/cryptogenic,
symptomatic. Both of these have different causes and affect the body and mind in particular ways.
Idiopathic epilepsy is commonly associated with cryptogenic because they are very similar.
However, there are some main differences between the two. Idiopathic epilepsy means that there is
no cause for the abnormal activity occurring in the brain. Cryptogenic epilepsy is when there is a

substance in red blood cells that carry oxygen), hematocrit(the percentage of blood made up of red

In some cases, epilepsy can be prevented. However, most of the time, this isn t the case. Usually,
epilepsy is genetic. Another common cause is traumatic head injury from an accident. Preventing
falls can lower your risk of getting epilepsy. In most cases, though, it is hereditary. Normally,
epilepsy occurs in someone who has a family history of seizures.
Right now, there is no cure for epilepsy. There are, however, treatments that people find helpful.
Traditional treatments include prescription medications like Lyrica or Zarontin for symptom
control. Most of these prescriptions are to control seizures and depending on what type of seizure a
person has, they may take different medications to regulate symptoms. Another traditional treatment
is surgery. The most common one is corpus callosotomy. This is when a person with extreme
seizures has split brain surgery so that seizures don t spread from one hemisphere of the brain to

All of the tales can easily be related to another tale through characters, symbolism, the plot, or

A Study Done By Vrangalova ( 2015 ) Essay
A study done by Vrangalova (2015) suggests that casual sex can form negative outcomes. In the
study it suggests that the self esteem of women will decrease due to more negative outcomes when
it comes to hooking up. While the men experience more positive outcomes of hooking up therefore
their self esteem increases. In the current study the effects of hooking up and self esteembetween
men and women will be tested using a survey that involves Rosenberg s Self Esteem Scale. A
correlation method will help determine if the effects of hooking up amongst men and women are
different, while the self esteem of men increase and the women s self esteem decrease.
Effects of Hooking Up on Self Esteem amongst Men and Women When thinking back on your
time in college what comes to mind? All the late nights you stayed up studying? How you were
always stressed out and sleep deprived? The parties and the amount of alcohol consumed? Or that
time you had a one night stand with someone you met at a party?
Most of the events resemble a typical college experience, especially since research has found that
hooking up is prevalent on college campuses more than ever. There has been studies conducted to
determine if engaging in hook ups is harmful to one s self. There has been a few longitudinal
studies that have shown hooking up has some positive effects, but more negative effects than
positive. A study by Rosenthal, Moore, and Flynn (1991) found that males had higher

This survey leaves us in no doubt as to the prevalence of mental ill health in England. Despite it
affecting so many of us, prejudice against people with a mental illness still exists and there is some
resistance to the provision of community care for people suffering with mental ill health .
Despite the fact that it affects people of all ages, the trends seem to show a substantial increase in
young suffers. The Mental Health Foundation (2001) claims that more young people have mental

This is proof that there is an additional stigma attached to males concerning mental health. Rachel
Craig states Men are more likely to hold prejudiced and less tolerant views than women towards
mental health .
Head of Samaritans policy and research, Clare Wyllie states that there is a male suicide problem
because Society has this masculine ideal that people are expecting to live up to. Lots of that has to
do with being a breadwinner. When men don t live up to that it can be quite devastating for them
(Fogg, 2014).
In view of the evidence cited above, the author feels that a viable means of de stigmatization of
mental health issues at university will encourage male students to seek help for mental health
issues. This will also reduce negative connotations attached with mental health issues, which in turn
will decrease the alarming suicide rates attached with it.

Gender Specific Role In Forging Groups
From the time that fully modern humans emerged about 100,00 years ago up until approximately
12,000 years ago, societies of humans practiced foraging as a means for their survival. This period
in which foraging was predominant is known as the pre complexity period. In the traditional sense,
anthropologists classify complex societies as those that are sedentary and practice farming instead
of foraging. The traditional classification of a sedentary, agrarian society as complex is imperfect
because it discounts the societal complexities found within foraging bands. While these societies
are sometimes portrayed as primitive without culture, they actually have an egalitarian social
structure with language, religion, and a vast knowledge of the landscape in which they lived. The
!Kung people of southern Africa, for example, were able to identify close to 90 different plant
species and utilize them in their diet. While there were clear gender specific roles in foraging
societies, where women tended to gather plants while men hunted, the societies themselves did not
have persistent inequalities. This was necessary... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Some have called him the best president yet. Others have even claimed that he was the world s

the overwhelming support that he received from his citizens throughout his four terms in office.
President Franklin Delano Roosevelt began a new era in American history by ending the Great

In this speech, he brought emotions from the audience in his last line, I pledge to you, I pledge to
myself, to a new deal for the
American people.
During the November campaign against Hoover, Roosevelt suggested a few parts of the so called
New Deal . He spoke of relief and public works money. He wanted to
develop a plan to cut agricultural overproduction. He was for public power, conservation and
unemployment insurance. The repeal of prohibition and stock exchange regulation were also big
items on his platform.
However, other than the aforementioned items, Roosevelt was quite vague about other plans. He
mentioned little about his plans for industrial recovery or labor laws. As much foreign policy
experience as he had, he talked very little of it during the campaign.
Many believe that he was simply trying to home in on the problems that the American public saw
most prominent at the time.
When it came to election day, Roosevelt was the only viable alternative to
Hoover, who many blamed for the Great Depression, although critics argue that it was the
presidents preceding the Hoover Administration. The outcome reflected this thinking: Roosevelt
won 22,821,857 votes compared to Hoover s 15, 761,841.
Roosevelt
also won the electoral 472 to 59. The voters had sent large majorities of Democrats to both houses
as well, which would enable Roosevelt to accomplish more by pushing through more bills.

The best type of avatar is a replica of the user. One can be whatever he/she desires. In the
Metaverse one person could talk to another person across the country. Millions of people can be
in the Metaverse. There is no limit to the amount of time one spends in the Metaverse. In reality,
Hiro lives in the slums, but in the Metaverse, he lives in a big house in a suburban area. The
houses on his street look like real houses. Hiro spends a lot of time in the Metaverse. He has top of
the line equipment, and is able to manipulate programs to his advantage.
There are many similarities between the Metaverse and reality. In the Metaverse, there is still a
separation of people. There are different classes of people. The type of equipment a person has
separates people in the Metaverse. Some popular models in the novel are Brandy and Clint.
These are off the shelf avatars. If a person does not own a computer, but logs on from a public
place and enter the Metaverse through the monorail, or through pay terminal, then they use
these cheap off the shelf avatars with grainy black and white images. These avatar s images are
of no quality and are really no fun to look at. The people who see these cheap avatars are usually
lower class people in reality and they are using the Metaverse to get closer to someone famous,
whereas they could not do this in reality (p.41). Top of the line avatars are used by people who
usually own their own laptops. Despite the kind

the legal obligations you must comply with when boarding Patrick s Vessel. State the relevant
section of the Act and explain in your own words what you believe this to mean. In order to

inspector has the power to board a boat in order to determine if the Fisheries Act 1994 (QLD) is
being complied with. The inspector also has the power to board a vessel or enter a vehicle if he
has a reasonable reason to suspect that the boat or vehicle itself is or has been involved in a

Realistic Features Of Geoffrey Chaucer
Geoffrey Chaucer
Chaucer, one of the greatest English poets of all times, was born in London around the year
1340 and died in 1400. He came from a wealthy merchant London family. Thanks to his education
and his father s court connections he became a member of Parliaments. After a marriage with a
woman named Philippa de Roet, a lady of high rank in waiting to the Queen, Chaucer got a
diplomatic position. He was sent abroad to secret talks and official business to Italy and France.
There he learned French and Italian, as well as studied their history, literature and culture, which
influenced him later in his works. He was appointed Customs Officer at London Harbour and
served in the royal court. Not much is known about his private life, only ... Show more content on

As we know from the Prologue, the Reeve had been carpenter. As I got to know from history,
reeves and millers were as well antagonists in a real life. That is also a realistic feature of MillerВґs
tale, and feeling offended from a MillerВґs tale, Reeve makes a revenge in his tale about millers.
Here Chaucer set forth the ordinary feud between millers and reeves that happened in everyday
life. When the tale was ended, the pilgrims didn t know whether to be angry because of MillerВґs
rudeness or laugh at his immoral story. But because of ReeveВґs higher rank, they did not comment
on it. According to Lowes, the change to realism represented in the Canterbury Tales, divides his
works, for it is in progress during the whole life and career. Instead of familiar Italian, French, and
English periods, there should be only two: the theory of convention and the period of realism.

Military-Only Motorcycle Club
Many people who have joined the military and been deployed will say that they had traumatic
experiences. To cope with these experiences when in America, many look for a hobby to be
around people they can relate too. One of these hobbies are joining motorcycle clubs (MC). More
members of the military than you may think have joined a motorcycle club. The idea of a long
lasting brotherhood becomes appealing after being in war. According to the members, they are
not a part of a gang but a club of brothers. Joining a military only motorcycle club is appealing
because of the long lasting brothership, perks, and requirements that are needed to become a
member. Motorcycle clubs began appearing after World War II by ex military, who was given

A stereotypical motorcycle club is a part of the one percent, looks for violence, will hurt anyone
who disrespects them. Most military motorcycle clubs do not claim a territory, yet still put what
state they are from. This does bring issues to the clubs when another club sees that the bottom
rocker on a jacket has the same location as theirs. When seeing another club claim their territory act
similar to how the Pagans and the Hells Angels have responded to the same issue, fighting. Other
military motorcycle clubs like the WarFighters put USA to avoid such confusion (Anderson). Even
though they get unwanted attention from one percenters, military only MC members would still
join knowing there will be problems. Motorcycle clubs attract veterans and active duty servers
because of the feeling of brothership, trills, and added benefits. While military only motorcycle
clubs do gain attention from the ATF and one percenters, veterans would still join because of the
perks. Although it is hard to get into one of these military only clubs, there are many people who
feel that joining is something that they want to

How The Artist Is Present By Marina Abramovic
There are many things that can be said about Marina Abramovic s works, particularly her
MOMA performance The Artist Is Present , but I think that everyone would agree they are if
anything compelling. The film that we viewed, centered around that ambitious performance,
allowed us to get a sense of Marina, from her early years as a rather unknown Yugoslavian artist,
her relationship with Ulay that had the biggest impact on her as artist and a person, to the late
years of her career in which she found fame. The performance at MOMA was one of the most
interesting works I ve ever witnessed. In addition to having her admirers as mere viewers of her
work, she found a way to engage with them in a very intense and profound way. I felt that the
performance... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The end of that relationship allowed Marina to flourish in her life and work. She found an
interest in fashion, grew her hair long and started doing theater pieces. She became a widely
known artist, a celebrity. The piece they did together in The Great Wall of China was also a
confrontation. She was able to express her inability to endure Ulay s unfaithfulness by letting him
go, even when it was clear that she still loved him. This brings me to the other film that we viewed,
Cutie and the Boxer. This film also revolves around a relationship that tests a woman s
endurance of a man who has brought her so much distress. While Marina adopts endurance as
art, Cutie lives her personal life in a state of endurance. Cutie and the Boxer is the bittersweet
story of a genius artist who has long lived under the shadow of her husband, finally finding her
own voice through her art. I m both mesmerized and saddened by the things she had to go
through in her life. Cutie had to put her own ambitions on hold as she tried to make her
relationship with Bullie work, while also raising a son on her own. But as she mentioned herself,
the events of her life and the hardships she had to overcome made her become the artist she is
today. And that s why her story is so bittersweet. At least we know at the end that, with all that she
had endured, she has grown so much as a person over the years. She s finally taking full control of
her life and being her own

Stephani Soechting s Film Fed Up
Stephani Soechting s film, Fed up gives a look at how obesity became a problem over time, a
serious problem. Throughout the movie as it goes deeper in on the food industries, the facts
clearly show that they are the cause of the obesity epidemic. The film also focuses on children
who have become overweight. According to Katie Couric, many people think that kids are
overweight for two reasons: a lack of exercise and increased appetites. (Fed Up). Soechting s film,
it tackles the producers main claim and that is corrupt foodmaking industries and reveals the truth
behind the overweight and obesity epidemic of our nation s children and the food industryis the

Examples Of Motives In The Crucible
In the play, The Crucible [New York: Penguin Group. 2003] by Arthur Miller, the mass hysteria of
the witch trials begins with a game in the woods and quickly grows to unbelievable proportion in
an atmosphere of ignorance and superstition. In this small, closed community, the hysteria is fed by
hidden personal motives including self preservation, fear, jealousy, envy, and revenge which when
unchecked and unquestioned, bring tragic consequences. Fear and self preservation are strong
motives, and these motives provide the origin of the witch trial in this play. When Reverend Parris
discovers his daughter, Betty, and niece Abigail, along with the slave, Tituba, and Mercy Lewis
involved in a forbidden activity, dancing in the woods, the girls are... Show more content on

Besides the motives already mentioned on the part of Abigail for making accusations of
witchcraft is revenge. Abigail has been dismissed as a maid by Elizabeth. Abigail is angry and
humiliated by this and seeks to get revenge with her false accusations which are believed by the
community. Others also find opportunities to exact revenge on their neighbors. Among the
victims is Sarah Good who is not totally accepted by the community. Since she is disliked, it is
believable to the community that she has cursed their animals (44). Another victim is Goody
Osburn who is accused by the Putnams. They maintain that as their midwife, she has caused the
death of Mrs. Putnam s babies (44). Goody Osburn is very poor and held in low esteem so there
is no one to support her, making it easy to accuse and arrest her. Another example of revenge is
based on the hatred between Thomas Putnam and Francis Nurse. The Putnams and Nurses have
been fighting over land for some time, and this has caused hard feelings. As Giles says, Putnam
accuses people who have land and would have them killed to get it (89). Additionally, Putnam is
upset with Nurse because Nurse has opposed Putnam s choice for minister. The Putnams see the
opportunity to get revenge by Mrs. Putnam s accusation of Rebecca Nurse of the supernatural
murder of their babies. This results in Rebecca s arrest and a chance for the Putnam s to acquire
land. All of these

1984 Telescreen Analysis
No matter how much freedom people think they have, they never truly have privacy. The Party
from 1984 has placed telescreens, microphones, and spies everywhere in Oceania while the United
States government has an ulterior motive to put microphones in the Amazon Alexas and IOS
iPhones, and cameras in phones, computers, and televisions for surveillance.
In 1984, the Party has complete control over all the surveillance in Oceania. There is not a place
anyone can go without being heard or watched. The telescreen is a device that is everywhere.
George Orwell writes of the telescreen: The instrument could be dimmed, but there was no way of
shutting it off completely (4). The telescreen is always watching the actions of the citizens of
Oceania, and there is no privacy. Orwell gives more detail of the telescreen: ... Show more content

This device is everywhere and never powers off, so the people can always be watched and

the character s feelings toward the sounds he made: Any sound made above a whisper would be
picked up (5). A sound cannot be quieter than a whisper, so every sound made, even the
whispers, are heard by the Party. Orwell explains this in more detail: You had to live in the
assumption that every sound you made was overheard (4). There was no privacy, so there were no
secrets. A third way that the Party monitored its people were through spies. Orwell tells of the
always surrounding spies: A day never passed when spies were not unmasked by the thought police

Racial Tensions In The United States
For centuries, many political and civil rights activist have taken a stance against the growing racial
tensions that have persisted with in the United States. Even though the racial problems facing this
country today are not as transparent as in the past, the underlying prejudice still remains. For
instance, President Trump s campaign used disapproving religious and racial views to gain support
which subsequently escalated the already strained racial relations. Even though political elections
are anonymous in the eye of the public, society has shaped anyone out who voted for Donald
Trump to essentially be Caucasian. Therefore, this presidential election has caused for any progress
regarding racial relations to be questioned due to the blatant

  • 2. Pre Islamic Period Of Arabian People Shadhan Al Mahrouqi Rifat Dika Arabic 399 9/30/2015 Pre Islamic Period of Arabian People Religion is a complicated multi dimensional phenomenon that embraces all the spheres of people s lives. Therefore, to analyze the meaning and objective effects of any religion, the researchers need to study e a particular society before the appearance of religion. It is common knowledge that understanding beliefs requires awareness of sociological, political, economic, psychological and philosophical life of a particular society. This paper is aimed to explore the Arabian society s condition in Pre Islamic period and to prove that the spread of Muslimism has considerably improved people s well being, creating political and social structure. Thus, the analysis should be performed on the basis of religious, political, economic and social conditions of Pre Islamic Arabia rather than geographical description of the region. Nevertheless, the desert location of the land played not the last role in the formation of its radically different social dynamics as compared to Egypt, Iran and other territories. First of all, Pre Islamic society had no political organization, including the absence of government. The matter is that Arabs accepted moral authority of their tribe s chief, while any governmental leaders were not acknowledged. The absence of government meant that Arabs had no order and law, whereas the behavior of individuals was regulated by victim s decision to bring the offender to justice, which led to lawlessness and cruelty (Berkey 40; Razwy n.pag.). The researcher Rodinson in his work states that the free Arabs were bound by no written code of law, and no state existed to enforce its statutes with the backing of a police force (Rodinson 190.). The factors that interrupted the Arabs from constant violence included the fear of vendetta and reprisals. Rodinson adds: The only protection for a man s life was the certainty established by custom, that it would be dearly bought. Blood for blood and a life for a life. The vendetta, tha r in Arabic, is one of the pillars of Bedouin society (215). Thus, Pre Islamic people s understanding of the world ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Hundred Year s War The Hundred Year s War was marked by one hundred seventeen continuous years of warfare between the Kingdom of France and the Kingdom of England, specifically a power struggle between Philip VI and Edward III. Not only did this war, mark the end of English attempts to control continental territory and the birth of the nation state of Francebut as well among the immediate and long standing consequences was a reconstruction of British and French Culture. During this time of warfare, an Englishman by the name of Thomas Tuberville, [was] taken prisoner by the French in 1295, [and] was released on the condition that he act as a spy at the English court where, however, he eventually aroused suspicion, was arrested, tried, and executed (Allmond,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To support this claim, I plan to focus on Joan of Arc Letter to the English on the 22 nd of March 1429, Allmond s exploration of hosting laws and Roger Bacon s letter. In the letter to the English, Joan of Arc warns the King of England to retract from war or expect to face physical violence. Despite Joan of Arc later downfall by treason, her letter as a servant of the French kingdom illustrates that nationalism grew at the expense of rigid international relations. In order to further explore the international animosity that grew, as well I plan to explore the hosting laws [that were established] whereby alien merchants would be kept under effective guard by being obliged to go to host with known and reliable Englishmen who would vouch for their good behavior while they were residing in England due to a fear of spies (Allmond,43). Lastly Roger Bacon in his letter, on the other hand, elaborates on how authors hid their secrets by means of special letters, devised by their own ingenuity and will, and different from those which are anywhere in use ending the once promoted admiration of military skills during the prominence of chivalry ... • 4. Why The French Revolutionaries View The Months Of The... In 1793, the National Convention in Paris created a new calendar for the French republic. The new calendar renamed the months of the Gregorian calendar and rearranged them so that each month contained three weeks of ten days each; at the end of each year there were five days of festivals dedicated to virtue, intelligence, labor, opinion, and rewards. This calendar was kept in place until 1806 when it was abolished by Napoleon. The National Convention and other republican groups cited many reasons for the adoption of a new calendar, including ridding the republic of the old regime and implementing a more reasonable system. Although the revolutionaries viewed the calendar as an improvement, others were quick to point out its flaws. Among the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Importance Of Setting In The Great Gatsby The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, is a fictional novel that takes place in four main settings. These settings include West Egg, East Egg, The Valley of the Ashes, and New York City. These four settings are literary tools in which the author uses to highlight the idea of the various failures and disappointments of the American Dream. This paper will compare and contrast the settings of The Valley of Ashes and New York City in The Great Gatsby . The Valley of Ashes is a wasteland and desolate place, located between East and West Egg and New York City. The quote where ashes take the forms of houses and chimneys and rising smoke (Fitzgerald 23) describes how desolate and barren the Valley of Ashes is. The Valley of Ashes gets ... These two settings can also compare in relation to land size. The Valley of Ashes and New York City also compare in the way that Tom and Gatsby both only use the city to hide their matters from people. Tom only interacts with his mistress in the city, and Gatsby only sees Meyer Wolfsheim there. There are although many ways that these two settings contrast. The Valley of Ashes is dry, grey and dirty in comparison to New York City which is a busy city with green grass and lush parks with many different types of people. The Valley of Ashes symbolizes the plight of the poor, and the individuals who live among the dirty ashes lose their spirit as a result. New York City on the other hand, exudes hopes, dreams, and an atmosphere of wild parties and indulgences. In conclusion, The Great Gatsby features settings that perfectly captures character, mood, atmosphere, and emotions. • 6. Cultural Revolution Mao A revolution is not an apple that falls when it is ripe. You have to make it fall Evaluate the accuracy of this statement in relation to the causes of the Chinese cultural revolution A revolution is not an apple that falls when it is ripe. You have to make it fall. This statement by Che Guevara suggests that in order for a revolution to occur, the leaders must not hesitate, but rather, they should take immediate and effective actions. This quote is particularly accurate for the Chinese Cultural Revolution, because the main leader of the Revolution Mao Zedong was able to manipulate the public, thus enabling him to bring about a revolution. The Cultural Revolution occurred as a result of the failures in the Great Leap Forward, and officially, Mao claimed that the goal of the Chinese Cultural Revolution is to build a society surrounding the proletariats by bringing back revolutionary spirit. However, it became increasingly clear that Mao s real intentions were rather personal, as he used the Cultural Revolution to re establish his power as the Chairman of the Communist Party of China. The Cultural Revolution was Mao s response to the disasters of the Great Leap Forward, during which at least 30 million Chinese people starved to death in the span of 5 years (Ben Walsh). In 1959, Mao admitted that I also have an indirect share of the blame... I don t want other people to shirk their responsibility. (Phillip Short). There are approximately 34,500 police officers in the NYPD The NYPD are very familiar with situations like shooting unarmed citizens. The shooting of Deborah Danner; mentally ill 66 year old women shot down due to having a baseball bat in hand. The past shooting of Amadou Diallo; 23 year old African American man shot 44 times for a misunderstanding of a wallet in his hand. Circumstances such as these cases repeat time and time again. Over the nine months of rehabilitation he learned to love O Brien and they conversed as if friends. Let Gays Marry and Leave Marriage Alone Essay I will summarize some of the key points from the essay, Let Gays Marry, by Andrew Sullivan, and the essay, Leave Marriage Alone, by William Bennett. Some of these main points are taken from mutual beliefs of both authors and others are derived from the opposing opinions of the two. The first summary of Andrew Sullivan s essay is a reflection of Andrew Sullivan s stance of the issue. The original essay was in favor of allowing same sex marriage in America. My summary will dictate some of the arguments that I found to be the most persuasive and important to Sullivan s case. The second summary is of Bennett s essay, Leave Marriage Alone. I will, again, try to point out the most influential pieces of argument in the essay.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a basis for these arguments, Sullivan believes that marriage is an important key to the progression of homosexual equality in America. Sullivan is aware of certain churches and religious affiliates that would be in opposition to the marrying of gay couples. Sullivan explains that homosexuals pushing for the permission of gay marriage do not intend to change the doctrines or traditions of any church. The movement s actual desire is the fundamental right to marriage. Sullivan reiterates the hopes of the gay community by expressing their longing for recognition before the law as a married couple. Gays are essentially making the simple request that they be given the same marriage license as any other couple in America who wishes to be married. Advocates of homosexual marriage say they are aiming to strengthen and become a part of the institution. Bennett disagrees and implores that if they were allowed to follow through, and be accepted as an active part of the institution of marriage, they would be, in turn, destroying the very foundations of marriage. Bennett deems that allowing gays to marry would have a profound influence on society. The change from the traditional ideals of marriage would completely redefine the conventional definition of marriage. Simply allowing gays to marry would contradict some of the worlds major religions that play ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(b)The primary issue determined by the case The primary issue that the High Court was asked to consider within Mabo was whether the Meriam people essentially had native rights in the Murray Islands, and if the people did in fact have these pre existing rights, whether the Australian law should guard these rights and interests and thus allow the Meriam people legal recognition to the land in question. Brennan J. concluded that the doctrine of tenure applies to every Crown grant of an interest in land, but not to rights and interests which do not owe their existence to a Crown grant . Thus, it was accepted by the majority that the Crown in fact acquired a radical title as opposed to an absolute title upon the acquirement of any land, and that this radical title would be subject to native title rights in the occurrence that the appropriate native title rights had not been reasonably or formerly ... It is one of a number of haemorrhagic fever diseases. Ebola is a single stranded RNA virus with an unusual, variable length, branched morphology. The helical capsid is enclosed inside a membrane.. It is one of the world s most virulent diseases. The Ebolavirus is a member of the Filoviridae family. There are 5 known subtypes of Ebola. The exact process what happens next is not fully known but the virus attacks the connective tissue and reproduces at an extremely fast rate in the collagen, digesting the tissue as it goes. The virus can ultimately cause viral hemorrhagic fever. When the macrophages in our body register the virus and consume it, they end up becoming infected and are manipulated to release proteins that trigger coagulation create small clots in the blood. This leads to the blood slowly thickening and therefore a decreased blood flow. As the clots begin to get stuck in the blood vessels, the patient begins to exhibit red spots on the skin the rash. As the disease progresses, these clots and their spots increase in size. Another more serious effect of the Ebola virus s clotting factor is the decreased blood supply to the vital areas of the body such as the liver, brain, kidneys, lungs, intestines, testicles and extremities ultimately causing a multi organ failure or septic shock. In the traditional sense, anthropologists classify complex societies as those that are sedentary and practice farming instead of foraging. The traditional classification of a sedentary, agrarian society as complex is imperfect because it discounts the societal complexities found within foraging bands. Others have even claimed that he was the world s most influential and successful leader of the twentieth century. Those claims can be backed up by the overwhelming support that he received from his citizens throughout his four terms in office. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt began a new era in American history by ending the Great Depression that the country had fallen into in 1929. His social reforms gave people a new perspective on government. Government was not only expected to protect the people from foreign invaders, but to protect against poverty and joblessness. In this speech, he brought emotions from the audience in his last line, I pledge to you, I pledge to myself, to a new deal for the American people. During the November campaign against Hoover, Roosevelt suggested a few parts of the so called New Deal . He spoke of relief and public works money. He wanted to develop a plan to cut agricultural overproduction. He was for public power, conservation and unemployment insurance. The repeal of prohibition and stock exchange regulation were also big items on his platform. However, other than the aforementioned items, Roosevelt was quite vague about other plans. He mentioned little about his plans for industrial recovery or labor laws. As much foreign policy experience as he had, he talked very little of it during the campaign. Many believe that he was simply trying to home in on the problems that the American public saw most prominent at the time. When it came to election day, Roosevelt was the only viable alternative to Hoover, who many blamed for the Great Depression, although critics argue that it was the presidents preceding the Hoover Administration. The outcome reflected this thinking: Roosevelt won 22,821,857 votes compared to Hoover s 15, 761,841. Roosevelt also won the electoral 472 to 59. The voters had sent large majorities of Democrats to both houses as well, which would enable Roosevelt to accomplish more by pushing through more bills. Roosevelt s second ... He came from a wealthy merchant London family. Thanks to his education and his father s court connections he became a member of Parliaments. After a marriage with a woman named Philippa de Roet, a lady of high rank in waiting to the Queen, Chaucer got a diplomatic position. He was sent abroad to secret talks and official business to Italy and France. That is also a realistic feature of MillerВґs tale, and feeling offended from a MillerВґs tale, Reeve makes a revenge in his tale about millers. Here Chaucer set forth the ordinary feud between millers and reeves that happened in everyday life. When the tale was ended, the pilgrims didn t know whether to be angry because of MillerВґs rudeness or laugh at his immoral story. But because of ReeveВґs higher rank, they did not comment on it. She was able to express her inability to endure Ulay s unfaithfulness by letting him go, even when it was clear that she still loved him. This brings me to the other film that we viewed, Cutie and the Boxer. This film also revolves around a relationship that tests a woman s endurance of a man who has brought her so much distress. While Marina adopts endurance as art, Cutie lives her personal life in a state of endurance. Cutie and the Boxer is the bittersweet story of a genius artist who has long lived under the shadow of her husband, finally finding her own voice through her art.
