Native American Spiritual Traditions
A Reflection on VOICE,R EPRESENTATION, AND DIALOGUE: THE POETICS OF NATIVE
AMERICAN SPIRITUAL TRADITIONS BY ROBIN RIDINGTON My reflection on this topic
focuses on preserving the storytelling circle by validating what we perceive. To begin, I will share a
brief explanation on how the Basotho connect with the spirits and braid my experience of the same
into George Nelson s narrative of the Native American spiritual communication. Similar to the Vision
quest stories exemplified in Nelson s record of the Native American spiritual experience are the stories
at heart of a Mosotho s family who believes in Meetlo ea Basotho (Basotho traditions). This journey
may involve a visit to ngaka ea Sesotho , literally a doctor of Sesotho , who

The Leftist Model Of The Cuban Revolution
Fidel Castro, a lawyer in his twenties was an Ortodoxo, was active and organized cells and published
work against the Batista government. From the start of his government Batista faced opposition. This
opposition came from two major groups the leftist Ortodoxos and the moderate Autenticos, and
attempted to rid Cuba of Batista. Castro came to the forefront after his attacks on the Moncada
Barracks on July 26, 1953. Due to a number of mistakes the attack failed but it became an event that
was central to the stories of the Cuban Revolution. Even though it began with major mistakes and
bungles, the Sierra Maestra event was the turning point that truly empowered Fidel s revolution.

Wright points out, Efforts to replicate the Cuban Revolution through rural guerrilla warfare had failed,
most of them dismally; the urban variant of guerilla warfare, while meeting with initial success in
Uruguay and Argentina, ultimately succumbed to counterinsurgency measures and to its own
limitations (p. 165). There were also the revolutions from above, for example, the actions of the
Peruvian military and the elected government of Salvador Allende. These revolutions held out new
hope for a few years until both came to abrupt ends. The most visible results, by the end of 1979, of
two decades of tried revolution and reform were the antirevolutionary regimes that ruled nearly half of
Latin America s population and its most developed countries. (Wright, p. 165) Wright concludes the
book with a mention of series of developments in the early 1990 s that signaled the end of the era of
the Cuban Revolution. The fall of the communist regimes, between 1989 and 1991, in Eastern Europe
and then the collapse of the Soviet Union deprived Cuba of its primary allies and critical economic
support. (Wright,

The Rise in Apathy, Cheating and Plagiarism Understanding the Problem
Over the past ten years teachers have witnessed a drop in student preparation and a rise in apathy and
cheating. Students who cheat do so from a variety of motives. Making this situation even more
difficult is that faculty members do not even define plagiarism the same or punish it consistently
(Howard, Sexuality 473). Some surveys even show that teachers simply ignore the problem or do not
report plagiarism because: they do not want to be bothered, because they think only the student who
cheated is actually harmed, or because of the unpleasant bureaucracy and documentation ramifications
(Moeck 484). Alschuler and Blimling add to this list the fear ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Conventional wisdom of the time believed that students learned to write well and think better by
becoming acquainted with the works of great writers and thinkers. Only by showing a mastery of the
masters could one establish authorial authority, and because the author s audience knew the masters
too, the student had no need to cite sources (Howard, Plagiarisms 788).
It isn t until the late 17th Century that British authors begin hurling the accusation of plagiarist at each
other. Ideologically this makes sense because after the fall of Rome, Western Europe fell into a dark
age. Not until the Renaissance do we see another spurt of humanism that marked the great classic
periods of Greece and Rome. Before the invention of the printing press, the rise in literacy, and the
focus on humans as perfectible creations who can create important works by themselves, there was
very little need for authorial ownership. In the Renaissance, associating an author s name with a work
was generally tied to prosecution for blasphemy and libel (Hammond 23). Authorship could only
develop as a profession when it became respectable for individuals to live off their wits (23). Not until
1709 do we find the first copyright law protecting ownership rights, and this did not solve the thorny
problem of intellectual property and how to protect an idea (36 37).
In the Romantic Period, a major shift in thought occurred. The Romantics prized individuality and

Analysis Of Delta Air Lines
Delta Air Lines is a global airline, one of the largest worldwide. According to SkyTeam (2009), a
worldwide alliance management team of ten members, the founding member Delta serves about 928
destinations in about 174 countries; with approximately 455 million customers annually and offers
15,955 plus daily flights...as well as, code sharing (airline networks consisting of selling tickets of a
partnered airline team) .
In this paper, we will venture into the globalization of Delta Air Lines and understand if they are just a
global corporation or if they carry a worldly mind set as a strategic management strategy. Gosling
Mintzberg (2003) paraphrase T.S. Eliot s famous words should we not explore ceasingly in order to
return home and know the place for the first time as a definition of worldly mind set (p. 59). Do other
people s circumstances, habits, and cultures influence our management strategy in the way we do
business? Delta Air Lines uniforms meet industry standard. Although, they customize them, they need
to take into the account of other cultures behaviors as to the level of acceptability or circumstances as
to whether or not the uniform will offend clients and not make them feel comfortable in the service

Twin-Personal Narrative
I am a statistic. I am the 1 in 285 Americans that has an identical twin. Although these are merely
numbers, they mean a lot more than that to me. It means I have a twin sister, Chloe, who has the same
DNA as I do and looks exactly like me (or so I m told). Our unique situation has led to a unique
relationship. From head to toe, Chloe and I look extremely similar. Her hair is long and blonde like
mine, and our eyes are the same size and hazel in color. Our shoulders are similar. Our arms are long
in comparison to our bodies. We have the same shirt size and our waists are the exact same
measurement. We both have long legs, scattered with volleyball bruises. Our feet are exactly the same
size. Although I know these likenesses to be true, all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If I m wearing something that doesn t earn her approval, I immediately have to change. Whenever I
say something that she thinks is obvious or stupid when we re with a group of our friends, she often
corrects me not long after. I don t even try to embellish my stories anymore, because Chloe is quick to
correct me with a that never happened. Although she likes to point out what I m doing wrong, she ll
always defend me when necessary. When someone insults me, she takes it personally, and vise versa.
Once, in fifth grade, a girl on my bus reached over the green, scratchy seat and hit me lightly on the
head. It was a confusing experience, and now I realize it was probably for a dare, but Chloe was
furious. She glared at her and insulted her vehemently until she apologized, her face red. No one else
could possibly know all the things that Chloe knows about me. No one else knows I was deathly afraid
of the dark in 4th grade and still don t like dark rooms to this day. No one else knows that she sucked
her thumb until she was eight. Because we know so much about one another, we can be completely
real around each other. We tell each other exactly how we feel all the time. We relate to other and
always have something to discuss because we have the same friends and interests. We are there for

Facial Neuroanatomy Research Paper
Painful facial and oral conditions are common reasons for patients to visit their physicians. Although
much of what we know about facial analgesia stems from the dental literature, it is easily extrapolated
to the family practice or urgent care setting. Even a basic understanding of dental and facial
neuroanatomy can be extremely useful.
Regional anesthesia allows infiltration of a peripheral nerve with a local anesthetic agent in order to
block sensory input. Although direct wound infiltration (local anesthesia) is safe and commonly used,
regional anesthesia, or nerve blocks , are advantageous in that they usually causes minimal discomfort,
are better tolerated than local anesthesia and often require the use of less of the anesthetic agent. ...

Boxer Rebellion Causes
Explain causes of the Boxer Rebellion
The Boxer Rebellion occurred as a result of both foreign and domestic internal tensions. These
tensions were the causes of the Boxer Rebellion. China faced terrible natural disasters in 1899 and
these was the main short term on the Boxer Rebellion. These included the flooding of the Yellow river
then followed by the terrible drought. This lead to crops being destroyed and to farmers unable to pay
their taxes which damaged the economy and millions of Chinese people faced starvation. These
disasters were blamed on the Westerners and fuelled anti foreign feelings and the Chinese believed the
famine was a punishment from the gods because they were abandoning their traditional ways and

The Chinese believed that the foreigners were trying to change the traditional Chinese way of life and

a trouble had been brewing in China for years . The source also mentions that this is due to foreign
exploitation by various countries had continued to escalate to a point that the outright partitioning of
China into international zones seemed very likely and this led to a violent movement among the
Chinese to rid their country of foreign influence. The main long term cause was the economic
hardship China faced in the decades building up to the Boxer Rebellion. These economic hardships
included poverty, unemployment and high taxes. anti Christianity and weak government. In the
hundred years building up to the Boxer Rebellion China s government was gradually becoming
weaker and the economy was dropping. These two long term factors eventually led to the Boxer
Rebellion.
2. Assess the significance of the Boxer Rebellion for China to 1911
The Boxer rebellion had a massive impact on the Chinese culture, economy and even geographically.
These effects were both positive and negative for the near and far future of China. The most
significant short term impact it made on Chinese society was the Boxer Protocol China were forced to

Wolves vs Humans
Wolves and humans have an ongoing battle between one another. Hunter vs the hunted, humans are
always the hunted and the wolf the hunter, but in an amazing turn of events humans take matters into
their own hands and become the hunters, demolishing the danger that hunts them, the wolf. Wolves
have been depicted as voracious killers, for as long as I can remember, and we humans are the prey
they seek, victims of their sharp teeth and thirst for blood. The media does an extraordinary job in
representing the wolf as a killer, deceiver and danger. Wolves however, were a symbol of life in the
olden days, around 300 BC. It wasn t until humans began to own farm lands that this battle, and
stigma developed. Wolves no longer became a symbol they idolized , but a symbol of terror and
gruesome death. As our societies developed, the media became part of our everyday life, resulting in a
new image. An image where the wolf, as a species, drastically changed. My visual argument
demonstrates three categories: Big Bad Wolf, Ranchers Eye, and Wolf as Lamb. I hope to demonstrate
the negative impacts that the media has created for the wolf, as a result, helps reinforces the fears and
beliefs we have as a society have of wolves, negative associations that depict the wolf as evil,
dangerous, and a threat to our lives. Big Bad Wolf is the first category within my visual argument
which emphasizes the role that the media plays in representing wolves as rogue, vicious, voracious
killers,

Womanhood In Henry James s The Portrait Of A Lady
To a forward thinking woman of the Victorian era, the concept that a novel written by a man could
illustrate so vividly the thoughts and natures of women would have been foreign. Yet such a novel
exists, one that spins a web of morality and human frailty so intensely that the reader emerges with a
thousand questions in their mind. Henry James, often referred to as the master , took upon himself the
task of creating such a novel, one that could skillfully capture the female spirit as well as reveal the
Victorian society s flawed idea of wifehood. He succeeded, producing the serial The Portrait of a Lady
in 1881. Though The Portrait of a Lady is renowned for its psychological realism and rebellion against
conventionalism, more expertly depicted is James accurate portrayal of Victorian society and
womanhood. His approach is profoundly feminist and reveals the toxicity and inequity of its era to a
high degree. James employment of his subtle wit is on full display with his interpretation of the
dysfunctionality concerning the concept of an ideal woman. In fact, he creates several female
characters, all of whom are manifestations of the different lives women could inhabit during the
Victorian era. In addition, the aforementioned characters are refreshingly three dimensional. Their
flaws do not diminish the story in fact, those defaults enhance the plot. James depiction of a woman s
life and choices is then embodied in the frequently discussed ending of the novel. The

Toulmin Argument Analysis
The Toulmin method is an effective way to carefully analyze a text within a written argument. When
writing the Toulmin method, the readers can show how effectively or ineffectively the author s
argument is. The article, Raise Wages, Not Walls, Michael S. Dukakis and Daniel J. B. Mitchell argue
that raising the minimum wages will help solve the immigration issue rather than building walls. The
essay has a claim, but has weak supporting evidences and reasons that does not support the claim. In
the Toulmin method, the authors provide a claim, evidence, and qualifiers. The claim is the position
that the author is arguing for. In this particular article, the authors claim that raising the minimum will
turn back the tide of illegal immigration ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The authors insist raising the minimum wage from $5.15 per hour to something closer to $8, is a more
effective solution to the immigration problem (Dukakis Mitchell, 2006). After a claim is stated in the
essay, the authors must provide grounds. Grounds are reasons or supporting evidences that bolster the
claim. The authors use evidences to support the claim. Dukakis and Mitchell present a weak ground in
the article by giving an ineffective way that can solve the issue. The authors disagree with building a
wall along the Mexican border as a solution to the illegal immigration problem (Dukakis Mitchell).
There is a flaw in this solution because the authors believe that illegal immigrants will find a way to
get into the United States even if there is a wall. This is a weak ground because it does not really
support the claim, but it shows how an alternative effort are not really effective. Another poor
evidence that is provided by the article is when the authors state that the minimum wage needs to be
raise before enforcing the wage law and other basic labor standards (Dukakis Mitchell, 2006). The
authors give a reason of how this will allow the employers to regulate the businesses, which would in

The Role Of Fame And Fame s Influence On American Culture
The role of fame and celebrities heavily influence American culture. Some people may be eager for a
celebrity status or be drawn to one who has achieved it for reasons not fully understood. When the
word fame is thought of, often what comes to mind is the money and the attention that comes with it.
However, fame can also bring pain through addiction and the publics lack of acknowledgement that
celebrities are people who share the same struggles and stress. America s obsession with celebrity
culture effects the attitudes, behaviors, and the overall views of an average person, and also those of
the celebrity themselves. Because celebrities live in a different world compared to ours, it can easily
make our lives seen unpleasantly dull in comparison. Therefore, it s easy to become obsessed with a
life that is not our own. Americas obsession with celebrities have created ways to make it possible for
anyone to become famous through reality tv shows, but there are rules as to what must be done to get
there. Competition shows like Survivor, American Idol, Americas Next Top Model, and Hells Circus
pit contestants in no holds barred battles for supremacy and financial reward. However, talent doesn t
always play the biggest role in winning on these shows; contestants are rewarded for being ruthless,
exploitative, and vain. Nearly all of them highlight bad behavior, giving extra camera time to cast
members who blow up, break down, or scheme to grab every advantage. As Omarosa

to it. Although bean bags were shot rather than live ammunition, apparently the Colonel had given
orders to aim at the head periodically (calling it an accident), especially when prisoners (or animals, as
the Colonel called them often) were killed. This type of leadership is in line with Machiavelli s, pg. 4,
assumed view of human nature in the prison, that human beings are essentially evil... as the
prisoners/animals were evil. Also, I compared this accidental killing of prisoners in The Castle like the
beginning of Sun Tzu. Sun Tzu killed the King s two favorite concubines because they failed to follow
orders. Just like the Colonel gave orders a second time before commanding the marksman to shoot,
Sun Tzu gave the orders a second time before he killed the concubines. When the orders have been

The Long Existence Of Street Vending

Ethnography Essay
Ai mua banh beo hong? (Who wants to eat banh beo?)
Street vending is one of the fanciest experiences visitors should take when they come to Vietnam.
Imagine every morning when you wake up, somebody reaches your home and sells everything you
need to cook today. The long existence of street vending proves that Vietnamese people are really
open to old culture while adapting new shifting in their culture. Although the modernization of society
has impacts on the activities of street vendors, Vietnam will lose its culture without street vendors.

The area of Saigon Cho Lon is famous for selling many Chinese dishes. People can find anything they
need, even in a vendor s leaf knitting needle, there are still many types of farm product such as home
grown vegetables and home raised fish. Such loads of goods remained in Saigon until the 1970s. The
old Saigon also has a collection of street vendors for customers to eat. In the morning the
neighborhood was very busy, attracting the West living in the colony. Meeting on the street is an
inherent habit of the Vietnamese, making a very hectic pace of living on the streets of old Saigon.
Along with their bikes, vendors are usually seen wearing conical hats and shabby dresses. The most
ordinary instruments incorporate two baskets carried on shoulders or bikes. In Hanoi, life appears to
be so advantageous. Regardless of where you are, you can get anything you want at a cheap price.
Quang ganh (two baskets slung from each end of a wooden or bamboo pole) is their main tool, and the
vendors can ride it around the streets or remain at a road s corner. Street vendors work in harmony
with the lifestyle of Vietnamese people, who start a day early and go back home after the sunset. They
usually collect the food at the wholesale market early in the morning and move around the streets to
looking for buyers. You will hear Ai mua... means (who wants to eat/buy) whenever the vendor passes

Walking the Ramps of a Beauty Pageant
Walking the Ramps of a Beauty Pageant Christopher Lowell once said, Beauty is not skin deep . but
is it really so with the exposure of today s generation to media s promotion of their own concept of
beauty? Turn on the television and see that most commercials, especially those selling beauty products
such as Ponds, Skin White, and Gilette for Women, are endorsed by thin, tall, pimple free, smooth
legged and fair to white skinned women. Flip pages of fashion magazines, see fashion shows and
discover that models are of the same description. The same goes for beauty contestants in a beauty
pageant, wherein there are set standards with regard to one s physical attributes before parading
oneself onstage. Certainly, one cannot be called a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the real world setting though, it is actually society who has done so and the Philippines, having
been colonized for years by Westerners, is one country whose society and culture is greatly influenced
by them. Thus, Filipino women adhere to the dictates of the West of what beauty is, which is implied
in fashion magazines, commercials, and other forms of media (Chapkis 40). With all these and having
the Miss Universe first launched in the United States, our own versions then of such beauty pageants
have patterned their standards with the beauty standards of the West (Candor 3 4). The adherence of
our women to such dictates is due to the need to be accepted by others, achieved through conformity
to peer group standards and practices (Furman 49). Furman further shares that many women, indeed,
see themselves as beautiful only when others perceive them so. According to Ms. Jovie Anne H.
Monsalud, a psychologist, people conform to such standards and seek acceptance from others because
they, in themselves, lack self acceptance. With the emphasis of how women should look like through
the standards in beauty pageants, many women, then, who are having a difficult time accepting
themselves for what they naturally look like, are pressured to follow such standards through working
out, cosmetic surgery, radical diets, and consumption of various beauty products and growth enhancers
(Urla and Swedlund 397), which have all been made to seem normal by the interplay of today s

Questions On Learning And Lesson Planning
1. What challenges have you faced?
Some of the challenges I have faced behavior issues with the students, disgruntle parents, difficult
administration and time management. When I 1st started teaching I had 34 students and I would give
homework and I could not check the homework every night and I had a policy where if the child
missed 3 homework they would get a phone call. And she called the students home the parent was
very rude and was wondering why she was just now getting a call. She didn t use profanity but I felt
degraded and my confidence went down and I felt like I wasn t a good teacher.

One of my weaknesses is technology and incorporating it into the lesson. But I am trying to get better
by asking questions and my school offers training in the technology in the classroom. The smartboard
being an example. Plus, they upgraded the smartboard and I was just adjusting to the one I had
currently and then we got a new one.
8. When did you decide to become a teacher and why did you choose this field?
I always wanted to be a teacher even as a child. What helped me make that decision was my first
calculus and accounting course because I realize business was not for me and I have always worked
with children on one level or another. I was a Sunday school teacher at my church and I had nieces
and nephews that I had to watch and assist with their work.
9. What personal strengths do you find especially helpful in your teaching?
The personal strengths that you find helpful in my teaching is the fact that I have always been around
children which helps me know how they think and being a team player and work well with others.
And plus, I liked to see a finished product. I like to start something and finish it through which is
important when teaching.
10. What is your philosophy of education?
My philosophy of education. I still hold on to my three R s reading, writing a and arithmetic but I see

In the case of Robert Tolan and Marian Tolan vs. Jeffrey Wayne Cotton, I will be discussing what
interest me about this case. I will also deliberating on the liability and criminal liability of this case.
The Tolan vs. Cotton case interests me because the United States have so many police that are
brutalizing citizens. In some cases the police officers are getting away with it. After reading,
reviewing, and studying this case I have learn a lot about the criminal system and laws that men and

Accomplice Liability and Criminal Liability Accomplice liability consents the court to find a person
or persons criminally liable for actions committed by another person. Criminal liability is when a
person is commits the crime or act and that he or she intent to commit the crime at that moment.
Sergeant Cotton was acquitted of all criminal charges against him in the criminal side. However, the
Robert and Marian Tolan felt that the lower court s decision was not fair. I do agree with the Tolans. I
believe that courts did not take the evidence that was present to them inconsideration that Cotton was
guilty. Cotton carelessly made an error on typing in the car tag number that Robert Tolan and his
cousin was driving. Since, he made that mistake he is responsible criminal and civil. He should have
been since to prison time and he should be responsible of the wellbeing of Robert Tolan. On the other
hand Cotton was found not criminal liability for the charges in criminal court but Tolan took his case
to the Supreme Court. Cotton then was found responsible in civil court.

Immigration Quota Law Of The 1920 s
Chicago s Al Capone. Prohibition remained law until 1933, just as the Twenty first Amendment
withdrew the Eighteenth Amendment.
The period between 1900 and 1915 is thought to be the peak of immigration. More than ten million
people came to the United States looking for a better future. The fact that these included Jews and
Catholics alerted older Anglo Saxon and Protestant American citizens. They also disliked the fact that
newcomers with their Old World customs, dared to compete for low wage jobs. As the tension over
immigration rose, a series of anti immigration measures were taken. Immigration Quota Law of 1924
and a 1929 act, both of these laws limited the number of immigrants to over a hundred thousand to be
distributed among people of different nationalities as oppose to the number of the fellow countrymen
already living in the United States in 1920. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

3.1 The hippocampus and Cognition
Hippocampus belongs to the limbic system of the brain. In 1960, O Keefe and Lynn Nadel continued
to investigate the functions of hippocampus. The behavioural inhibition theory was defined and
justified many questions regarding functions of hippocampus. Eventually their investigations have

Suffering In Into Thin Air
According to Friedrich Nietzsche, a famous German scholar and philosopher, To live is to suffer, to
survive is to find some meaning in the suffering, After reading the memoir, Into Thin Air, by Jon
Krakauer, the message is evident that one of the main themes of the story is suffering. Immediately to
begin the story, the narrator, Jon Krakauer, is standing upon the peak of Mt. Everest. Immediately this
poses a lot of questions as to how he got there and the pain he must have went through because there
is no easy journey to take to climb a mountain. Krakauer and his guides take a risk but suffer through
the pain to come out on top. Even though he had to suffer at times, it was all worth it in the end when

air is minimal, they must use oxygen tanks. These oxygen tanks can run out of oxygen at any time and
when they do, it causes a lot of suffering for the climbers. When they can t breathe they have
absolutely no strength to keep themselves going. Even though they may be able to last a little bit of

observed one student and the sub for twenty minute, and the student for the most part was doing the
worksheet and collaborating with his partner. The sub did walk around the class several times to make
sure that students were doing part of the worksheet. She would event ask the student question over it,
but mainly because she wanted to know what they were learning. I was able to help out some students,
but most student were off task. A student had an accordion, he would play it until the sub told him to
put it away. Most of the student finished the first sheet, but not the second worksheet. Towards the end

Essay about Kurdistan s Choice of Independence
For more than a century, the demand or desire for a Kurdish state somehow divided the Kurdish
people and their neighbors in terms of their opinion toward an independent Kurdish state. Kurds are
possibly on of the largest ethnic groups in the world that do not own a country of their own. They are
the largest minorities in Iraq, Iran, Turkey, and Syria (Murray p.31). It has been a challenge due to the
radical ideologies of the neighboring countries toward an independent Kurdish state since they always
translated that step as a threat to the repeating of the scenario to the Kurds in their own country. It is

Their assumption is that these countries will not support the declaration of an independent Kurdish
state. However, these claims are mostly assumptions. According to The Investment Fact Sheet of the
investment board of the KRG, the 2012 public budget is $12.5Bn . This is a relatively large budget to
sustain a country. When it comes to geography, the fear of a total sanction from all sides is possibly
overrated. Countries like turkey will mostly not oppose this step due to their large scale trading with
the Iraqi Kurdistan region. According to figures by Kurdistan Ministry of Trade Industry , 60% of the
companies that work in the KRG are Turkish companies . Another argument raised is the factor of
politics. People who counter the idea debate that most of countries in the world won t be accepting the

One of my favorite pieces of art would be the ukiyo e print, Under the Wave off Kanagawa

Views of Mount Fuji (Fugaku sanjūrokkei). This print was created by Katsushika Hokusai who at the

between the wave and the peak of the highest mountain in Japan, Mt. Fuji. With a height of 3776

towering over the ships within the sense. The most eye catching feature of the print is the claw like

Comparison Of Lone Survivor And The Odyssey
Many cities of men he saw and learned their minds, many pains he suffered, heartsick on the open sea,
fighting to save his life and bring his comrades home. (Homer77) In Lone Survivor, and The Odyssey,
men must make the difficult journey home, struggling through many obstacles and hardships. These
sources are very different, but they also hold some similarities such as obstacles, desire, and a sense of
duty.
In the beginning of Lone Survivor, four men undertake a mission to take down the leader of the
Taliban. They finally reach the mountain above where the village is located, and immediately spots the
Taliban leader. Mike Murphy, their lutenaint, says to move up higher into the trees. While resting, they
awake to the sound of goat bells, and take the three Taliban sheepherders as prisoners for the moment.
They find a walkie talkie, and Mike, and his men, start arguing over the right thing to do, to kill the
men, tie them up and let them die on their own, or to release them and move up. They argue as to
whether or not to follow their rules of engagement, and not kill unless fired upon, or do just kill them.
Finally, they decide to let them go, and follow the rules of engagement. If we kill these kids, it s
International news. CNN doesn t care about Rules of Engagement. SEALs kill kids. That s the story.
Forever. Let them go. Shut it down. (Berg52)
Everybody has something they want. For the characters in The Odyssey, and Lone Survivor, they only
want one thing; to get home to their loved ones. The beginning of Lone Survivor starts out with Mike
Murphey looking at an Arabian horse that his girlfriend really wants as a wedding gift. Odysseus
wants to be home, and away from the terrible waters of the sea (Homer179) In the middle of the book,
Danny, one of the Seals in the mission, falls to the ground, shot. The Taliban think he is dead, so they
look in his pockets and find a sheet of paper full of colors. Without a thought, they toss it to the
ground. Little do they know, that that paper was what his wife sent him, asking what color tile they
should have. Danny looks down past his knife. The Tile samples page has fallen out of his pocket.

Tenrikyo Is A Religion Of The World
Tenrikyo is a religion that emphasizes on how the joyous state of mind can greatly influence in what
will be going through in our lives by satisfying god s desires by making a good use of our body. In this
paper, I am going to argue that Tenrikyo is one of the fastest growing religions in the world due to its
rapid expansion that leads to an emerging new religion but does not interfere with other religions at
the same time. Tenrikyo is based on a religion established by a Japanese lady named Nakayama Miki
during the 19th century. Tenrikyo is a monotheistic religion that followers believe in the existence of
this one particular God, as known as God the Parent. It was said that Nakayama Miki had received a
calling by god, sent her to save all mankind from sufferings because god is the creator of mankind and
it is his job to make sure that we are all in a joyous state. God showed great mercy towards mankind,
he came down and revealed himself as Nakayama Miki, taking her as mediatrix and his elected shrine.
(van Straelen 8) It was said that she had a revelation at 1838, God the Parent replaced her mind and
thus her words are the words of god. According to Eliade, He argued that all religions originate to

Struggles with Identity in The Lesson by Toni Cade Bambara
Identity is what makes a person different from all other individuals. Throughout history it shows that
people tend to conform to society s perception of who they should be when they don t take the time
out to figure out who they are. Therefore, it is important for people to have a sense of who they are. In
The Lesson by Toni Cade Bambara, it shows how the main character struggles to figure out her
identity and how she sees herself.
In The Lesson it talks about a group of children who lives in the slum of New York City in the 1970s.
Sylvia the main character is ignorant, rude and stubborn. In the summer all she wanted to do is have
fun with her friends however, Miss Moore a well educated black woman took it upon her self to take
Sylvia and her friends to a toy store called F.O.A schwarz in manhattan. On the trip Miss Moore is
trying to show them a different world , the real world something the children are not accustom to
seeing. She s helping them to figure their identity and how they are as a person. At the end Sylvia
realizes that she is a strong and intelligent individual.
It is crucial for one to have a safe haven, a place where one can concentrate and find themselves as an
individual. Throughout the story Sylvia appears to be a rebellious, ignorant girl who curses a lot.

who she s not. When Miss Moore and the children was in the toy store, Rosie giraffe one of

Addiction With Substance Addiction
Addiction is a term used to describe the continued or compulsive use of a substance or engaging in an
activity that provides a pleasurable experience, despite the interference or negative effects it poses on
an individual and their responsibilities (PsychologyToday, 2017). Addiction involves the brains
reward, motivation and memory circuit (American Society of Addiction Medicine, 2017). Dysfunction
within these circuits leads to the pathological response of pursing reward from a substance or other
behaviours (American Society of Addiction Medicine, 2017). Two of the main commonly known
addictions are to alcohol and psychoactive substances; however, addiction also encompasses a variety
of behaviours such as eating, sex, shopping and gambling (PsychologyToday, 2017). In this paper I
will explore the complex health challenge substance addiction, how the concepts resilience hardiness
and vulnerability relate to substance addiction, at risk individuals and explore resources available for
individuals who suffer with this chronic disease.
In the past, substance abuse and substance dependence were two different categories in the Diagnostic
and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, a manual used to aid health care providers in diagnosing
and understanding mental illness (Casey, 2017). Recently, the manual has combined the two
categories into one substance use disorder . Substance use disorder encompasses hazardous use of a

The Importance Of Public Shaming In Today s Society
As an individual, it s a part of life to make plenty of mistakes, but is public shaming the answer to
solving it? In todays society, punishment for people is completely different from back in the Puritan
days. For example, in the novel the Scarlett Letter, Hester Prynne commits adultery, which leads her to
having to wear the letter A on her chest, which is a form of public humiliation but in this sense, it s not
right. This is Hester Prynne s sin that she committed that she lives with forever and it shouldn t be any
of the public business for her to be humiliated even more. This is a form of public ridicule,
reintegrative shaming where attention can be drawn by wrong doing, and in order for you to learn in
life you have make some mistakes . Public shaming is immoral in today s society because as an
individual that has done something wrong, you will start to feel like an outcast besides having to
endure humiliation for your actions.
(Article 1) To start off, public humiliation is a form ridicule which is a complete mockery. This is a
way of degrading someone and their position while people gather to taunt, tease, and verbally abuse
one emotionally. When an individual is humiliated for what he or she has done, it already hurts them
deep down inside which causes them to feel destroyed or not worthy of living anymore. In the Scarlett

systems. Thus, the concept of performing some SE2 reactions at 0 C decreasing the rate of the reaction
allows for the determination of the order of reactivity more definitively.
6. Chlorine is more electronegative than bromine. As a result, Cl2 is a much stronger electrophile than
Br2. The halogenation of an arene is an aromatic electrophilic substitution. The rate and enthalpy of
activation of this reaction depends on the nucleophilicity of the arene and electrophilicity of the
electrophile. The greater the electrophilicity of the electrophile, the lower the enthalpy of activation
for the reaction and the greater the rate will be. Thus, the relative rate of SE2 reactions will be faster if
Cl2 were used instead of

American Jewish History Summary
The National Museum of American Jewish History officially opened its doors Friday, November 26th,
2010. According to their website, the NMAJH exists to recount the story of how the Jews who
migrated to America from around the world became today s Jewish Americans(CITED). Joachim
Gans was the first documented Jew to arrive in America, circa 1585, as part of an expedition
commissioned by Queen Elizabeth to explore the new world to determine if there was any ore in
America of value (CITED, BARUCHSTERMAN). Gans was able to report on a land rich with
resources of great economic value. This information provided encouragement for England to continue
its objective to colonize America with the next major expedition founding the first ... Show more

As anti Semitism was rapidly growing in Russia and Eastern Europe, the economic and social promise
of America beckoned. With the breakout of World War I, the number of immigrants increased rapidly.
During this time, individual states regulated immigration. New York State s immigration station,
known as Castle Garden, was ill equipped to handle the growing number of immigrants arriving daily;
the federal government soon intervened and in 1892, constructed a new Federally operated
immigration station we know as Ellis Island (CITED, ELLISISLAND). Records show nearly three
million Jews passed through this port of

The Island Of Dr. Moreau Essay
The Island of Dr. Moreau, by H.G. Wells is focused around a man fascinated with the difference
between animal and man. Dr. Moreau, a man surely seen as a mad scientist to the outside world, and
maybe correctly. Dr. Moreau is determined to establish a sustainable human population, but all he has
on his secluded island, are a bunch of beasts. Although, this appears to be a problem, he still works
toward his goal, in rather experimental stages.
The genre of the story is very much science fiction, but it is also realistic fiction. Although this is not
based on any true events, the idea of experimenting on and evolving humans is not only possible, but
would most likely be a common thing if not for the lack of legality of the practice. The point of view
is definitely first person as the book is written as a diary of sorts. The narrator is telling the reader, his
experiences on the island as if retelling a personal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Edward Prendick, being the protagonist as well as narrator of the book showed most development in
his opinion of the beast people. Prendick went from being scared to death of the beasts turned humans
when he first came ashore on the island, to being friendly, feeling pity when they were tortured, and
back to being scared to death again when one of them killed the doctor. He is very philosophical when
it comes to the comparison between man and beast.
Dr. Moreau is fascinated with evolution; he wants to turn the wild life of the island into humans. But
mainly he wants to create evolution directly. He is very spiritual in the sense that he seeks the meaning
of life. He declares himself god almost as he seeks the powers of god, the ability to manipulate both
life and nature at will. Although he is never successful because he lets the animals that he
experimented on, roam free and none survive long enough to

Designer Babies Genetics
Until a few years ago having a baby boy or a baby girl was just complete chance. Not anymore. Now
parents have the option to decide on the gender of their future baby, along with many other genetic
traits, such as eye colour, hair colour, intelligence, athletic ability and even skin tone. Designer babies
can also be made for medical reasons, by changing the genetics of a baby, diseases such as down
syndrome and turner syndrome can be prevented. A designer baby can also be made with identical
tissue to be donated to a sick sibling in need.
Before researchers were able to find a way to make this possible, they first had to understand more
about genetics. Genetics explains the process of parents passing down genes to their children, these
genes are things like hair colour, eye colour and genetic disorders. Every human has 23 pairs of
chromosomes, 43 individual, and within them is where the genes are carried, each chromosome holds
about 20,000 genes.
A chromosome is made up of genes, which is sort sections of DNA (Deoxynucleic acid) . Within the
genes, there are alleles, which are different forms of a gene. For example the gene for eye colour has
an allele for blue eyes and an allele for green eyes. Alleles can be either dominant or recessive. The
characteristic controlled by a dominant allele develops if the allele exists ... Show more content on

Mitosis produces two cells, identical to each other and the parent cell. This means that each
chromosome is copied exactly. During the mitosis cell cycle there are 6 stages, Interphase, Prophase,
Metaphase, Anaphase, Telophase and Cytokinesis. Sometimes the cell divide uncontrollably. This
results in a large mass of cells called a tumor. If tumor successfully gets into other body tissue the
result is

From Their Earliest Beginnings, Railroads Have Played An
From their earliest beginnings, railroads have played an extremely vital role in shaping America; its
society, its culture, and its destiny. Taking inspiration from the first railroads of Britain, American
businessmen soon channeled the vast majority of their wealth and efforts into promoting the
development of railways in the United States. And with its truly immense territory, growing
population, and trailblazing spirit, America soon embraced the idea of a railroad that would connect
the Pacific to the Atlantic which would allow for a greater flow of goods from east to west, shorter
travel times, and a goal towards its manifest destiny.
After five years after Congress passed the Pacific Railroad bill which authorized the construction of ...

Whitney, a Chinese goods merchant who was obsessed with the transcontinental railroad thanked
Congress for eliminating infernal ocean commutes. However, on May 15, after hundreds of thousand
of dollars in patchwork, regular passenger service was opened for business. Travelers could make the
trip between San Francisco and New York in a week. The coasts were connected; and the world as
Americans knew it had grown gradually smaller. The transformation achieved in intercontinental trade
was substantial. Within ten years of its completion, the railroad shipped $50 million worth of goods
coast to coast every year. Just as it opened the markets of the west coast and Asia to the east, it brought
products of eastern industry to the growing populace beyond the Mississippi. The railroad ensured a
production boom, after the railroad was completed, people had better access to mineral resources and
more pay ores like gold, silver, and platinum were discovered as a result. Mining towns sprang up in
many areas, populating areas that have never been settled. This essentially made the transcontinental
railroad, America s first technology corridor. As it encouraged the growth of American business, so
too did it promote evolution of the nation s public discourse and intellectual life. Americans could
travel across the length of the continent in a matter of days, and gaze upon

From the start of his government Batista faced opposition. This opposition came from two major groups the leftist Ortodoxos and the moderate Autenticos, and attempted to rid Cuba of Batista. Castro came to the forefront after his attacks on the Moncada Barracks on July 26, 1953. Due to a number of mistakes the attack failed but it became an event that was central to the stories of the Cuban Revolution. There were also the revolutions from above, for example, the actions of the Peruvian military and the elected government of Salvador Allende. These revolutions held out new hope for a few years until both came to abrupt ends. The most visible results, by the end of 1979, of two decades of tried revolution and reform were the antirevolutionary regimes that ruled nearly half of Latin America s population and its most developed countries. Schools and Education The Rise in Apathy, Cheating and Plagiarism Understanding the Problem Over the past ten years teachers have witnessed a drop in student preparation and a rise in apathy and cheating. Students who cheat do so from a variety of motives. Making this situation even more difficult is that faculty members do not even define plagiarism the same or punish it consistently (Howard, Sexuality 473). Some surveys even show that teachers simply ignore the problem or do not report plagiarism because: they do not want to be bothered, because they think only the student who cheated is actually harmed, or because of the unpleasant bureaucracy and documentation ramifications (Moeck 484). Conventional wisdom of the time believed that students learned to write well and think better by becoming acquainted with the works of great writers and thinkers. Only by showing a mastery of the masters could one establish authorial authority, and because the author s audience knew the masters too, the student had no need to cite sources (Howard, Plagiarisms 788). It isn t until the late 17th Century that British authors begin hurling the accusation of plagiarist at each other. Ideologically this makes sense because after the fall of Rome, Western Europe fell into a dark age. Not until the Renaissance do we see another spurt of humanism that marked the great classic periods of Greece and Rome. Before the invention of the printing press, the rise in literacy, and the focus on humans as perfectible creations who can create important works by themselves, there was very little need for authorial ownership. In the Renaissance, associating an author s name with a work was generally tied to prosecution for blasphemy and libel (Hammond 23). Authorship could only develop as a profession when it became respectable for individuals to live off their wits (23). Not until 1709 do we find the first copyright law protecting ownership rights, and this did not solve the thorny problem of intellectual property and how to protect an idea (36 37). Womanhood In Henry James s The Portrait Of A Lady To a forward thinking woman of the Victorian era, the concept that a novel written by a man could illustrate so vividly the thoughts and natures of women would have been foreign. Yet such a novel exists, one that spins a web of morality and human frailty so intensely that the reader emerges with a thousand questions in their mind. Henry James, often referred to as the master , took upon himself the task of creating such a novel, one that could skillfully capture the female spirit as well as reveal the Victorian society s flawed idea of wifehood. He succeeded, producing the serial The Portrait of a Lady in 1881. Though The Portrait of a Lady is renowned for its psychological realism and rebellion against conventionalism, more expertly depicted is James accurate portrayal of Victorian society and womanhood. His approach is profoundly feminist and reveals the toxicity and inequity of its era to a high degree. James employment of his subtle wit is on full display with his interpretation of the dysfunctionality concerning the concept of an ideal woman. In fact, he creates several female characters, all of whom are manifestations of the different lives women could inhabit during the Victorian era. In addition, the aforementioned characters are refreshingly three dimensional. Their flaws do not diminish the story in fact, those defaults enhance the plot. With all these and having the Miss Universe first launched in the United States, our own versions then of such beauty pageants have patterned their standards with the beauty standards of the West (Candor 3 4). The adherence of our women to such dictates is due to the need to be accepted by others, achieved through conformity to peer group standards and practices (Furman 49). With the emphasis of how women should look like through the standards in beauty pageants, many women, then, who are having a difficult time accepting themselves for what they naturally look like, are pressured to follow such standards through working out, cosmetic surgery, radical diets, and consumption of various beauty products and growth enhancers (Urla and Swedlund 397), which have all been made to seem normal by the interplay of today s ... The period between 1900 and 1915 is thought to be the peak of immigration. More than ten million people came to the United States looking for a better future. The fact that these included Jews and Catholics alerted older Anglo Saxon and Protestant American citizens. In todays society, punishment for people is completely different from back in the Puritan days. He is very philosophical when it comes to the comparison between man and beast. Dr. Moreau is fascinated with evolution; he wants to turn the wild life of the island into humans. But mainly he wants to create evolution directly. He is very spiritual in the sense that he seeks the meaning of life. He declares himself god almost as he seeks the powers of god, the ability to manipulate both life and nature at will. Although he is never successful because he lets the animals that he experimented on, roam free and none survive long enough to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Now parents have the option to decide on the gender of their future baby, along with many other genetic traits, such as eye colour, hair colour, intelligence, athletic ability and even skin tone. Designer babies can also be made for medical reasons, by changing the genetics of a baby, diseases such as down syndrome and turner syndrome can be prevented. A designer baby can also be made with identical tissue to be donated to a sick sibling in need. Before researchers were able to find a way to make this possible, they first had to understand more about genetics. Genetics explains the process of parents passing down genes to their children, these genes are things like hair colour, eye colour and genetic disorders. Every human has 23 pairs of chromosomes, 43 individual, and within them is where the genes are carried, each chromosome holds about 20,000 genes. A chromosome is made up of genes, which is sort sections of DNA (Deoxynucleic acid) . Within the genes, there are alleles, which are different forms of a gene. For example the gene for eye colour has an allele for blue eyes and an allele for green eyes. Alleles can be either dominant or recessive. The characteristic controlled by a dominant allele develops if the allele exists ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mitosis produces two cells, identical to each other and the parent cell. From Their Earliest Beginnings, Railroads Have Played An From their earliest beginnings, railroads have played an extremely vital role in shaping America; its society, its culture, and its destiny. Taking inspiration from the first railroads of Britain, American businessmen soon channeled the vast majority of their wealth and efforts into promoting the development of railways in the United States. And with its truly immense territory, growing population, and trailblazing spirit, America soon embraced the idea of a railroad that would connect the Pacific to the Atlantic which would allow for a greater flow of goods from east to west, shorter travel times, and a goal towards its manifest destiny. After five years after Congress passed the Pacific Railroad bill which authorized the construction of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whitney, a Chinese goods merchant who was obsessed with the transcontinental railroad thanked Congress for eliminating infernal ocean commutes. However, on May 15, after hundreds of thousand of dollars in patchwork, regular passenger service was opened for business. Travelers could make the trip between San Francisco and New York in a week. The coasts were connected; and the world as Americans knew it had grown gradually smaller. The transformation achieved in intercontinental trade was substantial. Within ten years of its completion, the railroad shipped $50 million worth of goods coast to coast every year. Just as it opened the markets of the west coast and Asia to the east, it brought products of eastern industry to the growing populace beyond the Mississippi. The railroad ensured a production boom, after the railroad was completed, people had better access to mineral resources and more pay ores like gold, silver, and platinum were discovered as a result. Mining towns sprang up in many areas, populating areas that have never been settled. This essentially made the transcontinental railroad, America s first technology corridor. As it encouraged the growth of American business, so too did it promote evolution of the nation s public discourse and intellectual life. Americans could travel across the length of the continent in a matter of days, and gaze upon ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
