How Water Shaped Michigan
How Water Shaped Michigan
For many years, I have always wondered how Michigan was shaped. I did not realize that water
could have such a huge impact on the way Michigan was made. From doing research, I
recognized that there has been four Ice Ages on Earth. The last Ice Age, Pleistocene Epoch began
and ended two million years to 12,000 years. At this time, hot and cold temperatures swayed and
glaciers receded to advance into the interglacial periods. In the United States, and around the
world glaciers have carved out our landscape, making what the world is today. The first glaciers
circulated south from what is now Canada. From what I ve researched the Great Lakes were once
riverbeds, which provided the glaciers perfect passage to the south. ... Show more content on

Sand dunes are mounds of windblown sand, which vary greatly in size, from less than one meter to
tens of meters high. The size depends upon the supply of sand. Many of the more recognizable dune
forms are ridges or complexes of mounds or crescents. The shape of individual dunes is equally
variable. Shape relates to the direction and strength of the wind forming it, as well as to the
amount of sand available. The impressive sand dunes along the eastern shore of Lake Michigan
were created by the prevailing westerly winds blowing the sand deposited along the beaches into

Theme Of Nostalgia In No Country For Old Men
No Country for Old Men is a novel that revolves heavily around the theme of nihilism and nostalgia.
Main characters, Sheriff Bell and Anton Chigurh represent this immensely throughout the novel.
Nihilism is a philosophy that emphasizes on the idea that all values are baseless and life is
meaningless. Nostalgia is a sentimental yearning affection for the past. In the novel, Anton Chigurh
represents nihilism and Sheriff Bell represents nostalgia. As conveyed in the title, there is no
longer a place for old men and old values in the new world. Sheriff Bell has fallen into a trap of
nostalgia and idealizing the past while rejecting the present. Anton Chigurh, on the other hand, is an
active nihilist in the new world.
Throughout the novel, Sheriff Bell, the protagonist, continually considers the contrast between
old ways and the new ways. He holds to a nostalgic view of the past, reminiscing about a time
where order and just ruled. He talks about a time where police officers didn t need to carry guns
and knew the people of their communities and kids were safe at school and on track to become
good citizens. The senseless violence he encounters, however, leads him to believe that the
country is heading toward havoc. He says that he thought [he d] never seen a person like that and
it got [him] to wonderin if maybe [the boy] was some new kind (McCarthy 2) and that the new
kind has another view of the world out there and other eyes to see it and that s where this is goin
(McCarthy 2).
Anton Chigurh, the antagonist of the novel, is the embodiment of this new kind . He is perceived
as a personification of evil. Chigurh lacks any trace of empathy and operates solely to fulfill his
personal aspirations. Throughout the novel, he has shown disregard for law and the value of
human life. He embodies this through many things, including with the use of one of his weapons to
kill people, a bolt gun, a tool used to slaughter cattle. He used this weapon to kill a man and steal
his car. He used the weapon to avoid the law, being that he would not be traced caught by the cops
because he is leaving nothing behind. Chigurh other weapon of choice he arms himself with is a
Remington semi auto shotgun, which he used to kill

Advantages Of Virtual Machines
Abstract
This paper refers to the features of Virtual Machines and Virtual Machines Monitors describing the
performance and challenges as well as mechanisms such as fault tolerance, high availability and v
motion. Main theme depicts that modern servers are designed sufficiently powerful to use
virtualization into many smaller virtual machines (VMs), each running a separate operating system
instance [1]. Numerous systems have been designed to get virtualization by utilizing the storage
resources like SAN and processing memory resources Like Servers and network infrastructure to
build a cluster of failover servers [2].

For example, the instruction execution stream of an operating system s idle loop or the code for

result is that the monitor may schedule resources for useless computation while useful computation
may be waiting. Similarly, the monitor does not know when a page is no longer being actively used
by a virtual machine, so it cannot reallocate it to another virtual machine. In general, the monitor
must make resource management decisions without the high level knowledge that an operating

What is more, teen couples bite each other regularly to show affection, sometimes so hard they
draw blood and what is even more bizarre: some of them cut their skin so they can taste one
another s blood. According to doctors biting can lead to diseases. Fifteen percent of bites from
humans can become infected; moreover, biting can spread sometimes blood borne diseases like
HIV, hepatitis or syphilis. Let s see an example from the first part of Twilight Saga, because it
has been already mentioned. In the first part of the series, Bella says, About three things I was
absolutely positive. First, Edward was a vampire. Second, there was a part of him and I didn t
know how potent that part might be that thirsted for my blood. And third, I was unconditionally
and irrevocably in love with him. (Meyer,195) It sounds as if teenagers are influenced to fall in
love with something like Satan. So it is enough if the man is handsome, it doesn t matter if he is
life threatening. In the end, just like in fairy tales, everything is going to be alright and they will
live happily ever after. The only problem is that in real life it doesn t work. Moreover, one of the
most famous quotes from New Moon, the film interpretation of the second part is Death is
peaceful....easy....life is harder... . An impressionable young mind may easily define this that it s
easier to commit suicide than to manage with the troubles. On the

Death With Dignity Ethical Issues
Death with Dignity in California and Oregon
When working in the healthcare field, many ethical issues come arise that causes us to think
about our choices and actions. One major ethical debate is the Right to Die or also known as
Death with Dignity . Death with Dignity is an assisted death by a physician for the terminally ill
who do not want to face anymore pain. There have been constant ongoing controversial debates if
this is ethically moral with many who are supporters and many who oppose this. Many feel that
this situation is similar to having an abortion, but there have been many states who have been
fighting to pass laws supporting the Right to Die . With all the disputable debates, it is important

They fear for the abuse of medication by the physician and sometimes the pressure of others for the
patients to intake the medication. According to Anderson (2015), he believes there are four
problems that comes along with physician assisted suicide which are endangering the weak and
vulnerable, corrupt of practice of medicine, compromise of the family commitments, and betray of
human dignity and equality before the law (Anderson, 2015). He makes some very good points
where anyone would be convinced that physician assisted death could be questioned on their ethics
and policies. They fear that it brings more inadequate physician care to actually try to save the
patient or to reduce the pain. This leads to poor physician and patient quality in their relationship
and reduces the commitment they have with each other. In the third issue, those who oppose
fear that with physician assisted death, people will try to abuse this by trying to tempt elderly
and disabled people to take this medication for their own benefit and feel that the burden will be
uplifted if they do choose to go through with it. The last problem they argue is that it violates
human dignity and denies equality before the law. This is where ethics comes into play between
the physician and the patient. The physicians have a tough decision to see if the patient is eligible
for the medication or not and it is up to the patient to determine if they do want to end their life
with all their family and friends to feel the burden. For physician assisted death advocates, they
argue that it up to patient s autonomy and what they choose to do to their body. Even with these
issues, more states are leaning towards passing the law of physician assisted death and more
advocates are joining the Death with Dignity

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder in Born on the Fourth of...
Unsure of exactly what movie to watch, I looked for an interesting title on the list, hoping that
one may jump out at me and interest me. I did not want to write a paper on something I had
watched previously, as I did not want to have a biased opinion and I wanted to make sure I paid
attention to all the details for the paper. If I had seen the movie before, I may have skipped over
it or lost focus during the film. The title Born on the Fourth of July seemed patriotic and I
wondered what exactly it would be about. I decided to research a synopsis of the film and realized
it was about a soldier and in turn I assumed the disorder displayed in the movie would be Post

struggle of the physical and mental rehabilitation. It showed how he began drinking and partying
in Mexico as a way to cope with his newly developed unpleasant attitude and displeasing
demeanor. When he returns to the US as an advocate against the war, it shows the difficulty the
protestors endured and how difficult their mission was. When the film ends it shows how Kovic

advocate against war for the Democratic Party, speaking at the Democratic National Convention

Purpose Of The Xingyiquan
Qi is energy that is moving around in the meridians of our body. The meridians are throughout
the body and they correspond to certain internal organs. The purpose of the meridian points was
for acupuncture and moxibustion. If one were to prick the meridian points, instead of getting
rid of the pain, the disease would worsen it. They could also be used as a deadly weapon, if you
hit the right meridian at the precise point. Qi is found in the lower abdomen and it passes through
the whole body. Qi is used in medicinal by letting energy flow through the body and it also fight
against illnesses. Qi is also used in fighting because it would help with either creating a resistance
towards something or it will help with using full force in a battle. The vital points are... Show more

The movements of Xing are linear and you focus yourself on the body and make come together.
This martial arts relates to the vital points because they both want the same thing, that is to be
used as a weapon. The vital points are throughout the body and they connect to certain organs,
depending which point the person is striking. Xingyquan is used in combat and the vital points
are also used to an advantage to weaken and or do damage to an opponent. According to the
Bubishi article, Chen Yuabin used the striking of the vital points to fight off against the
attackers. From the past few years, it s used a self defense. The Xingyquan is well known for
using the spear and the fists come from using the spear. The spear is a long shaft that has a very
pointy tip. Now this is a similar way on how Zhan Sanfeng used to train. He would use needles
on the Bronze Man and liquid would come out if the correct vital point was hit. Then later on,
instead of needles they would carry writing brushes or fans that were made of iron or bamboo. In
both cases they used objects with small points to strike the

Differences And Fall Of The Han Dynasty And The Roman Empire
The Han Dynasty and Roman Empire both ruled for considerably long periods, spanning over four
centuries around the same time. The Zhou Dynasty, an early Chinese empire, ruled to around the
beginning of the Han Dynasty. Their government was based on feudalism; this giving power to the
rich in their society. Overextension led to the fall of their rule, leading to the rise of Confucianism
and Legalism. These beliefs along with Taoism led to the warring states period, these views leading
to the start of the Qin Dynasty and then to the Confucianist Han Dynasty. Like the beginning of the
Han Dynasty, the Roman Empirebegan with nobility rule. A difference would be that the Roman
Republic s fall had more to do with the tension between the classes. This leading to Julius Caesar
s rule, like Qin Shi Huangdi the Emperor of the Qin Shi Dynasty. Caesar s assassination lead to
the rise of the Roman Empire. The beginning of their regions early powers began around the same
period and spanned for around the same length, this provided for similarities between the two, such
as tension between classes, and expansion of their trade routes, a difference being the succession of
leaders in both of their governments.
Tension between classes contributed to the fall of the Han Dynasty and the Western Roman Empire.
The difference in which the wealthy and poor lived and the unrecognized inequality of land
distribution in the Han Dynasty led to the Yellow Turban Uprising. This uprising was a

Investigating Correlation Coefficient Of Correlation
a. I can use here z test for one sample proportion since I want to compare if there is a significant
difference between the sample proportion (i.e. PKU rates in that certain state) and the
population proportion (U.S. PKU rate distribution). Also since the sample size is sufficiently
large, then it does not pose any problem with the normality (since np 5). b. In this case to get the
correlational coefficient of the variable if it is ordinal, then I could use Spearman rank rho
coefficient and if it is interval or ratio level I could use the Pearson product coefficient of
correlation. In the end I can check if the correlation is statistically significant by using the t test
for significant correlation coefficient. c. I can use here t test for dependent samples (because of
the phrase before and after ), since the same group of sample will measured twice, before a
treatment, and after a treatment. Of course, we need to check if all the assumptions are met, such
as normality, equality of variance and randomness of samples. d. I can use here Chi square test of
independence. Since we want to know if there is a relationship or difference between the college
students responses to the likert question, based on their major fields of study (nutrition, nursing,
and social work) So we want to test if the two variables are dependent or independent with one
another. Assumption of Chi square must also be checked. e. Either I can compute for the mode of

Social Dilemmas In A Divergent
Living in the society, Tris ought to be obeying the law as she is part of it. But, when she finds out
herself is a Divergent, she can sense that something is running off. There is a social norm that that
the divergent is outskirt. And even the test administrator warns her never tell anyone her result
shows as Divergent because this will create chaos. As mentioned, the society under Abnegation
government is not just and fair, it even does not reach the view of Mockus by recognizing of legal,
moral and social norms that may regulate citizens behaviour . Each faction is required to focus on
the responsibility and they have different values, they do not agree to each other core virtues;
therefore, one faction is not willing to communicate with the other faction. Although during the
period of ruling, there is no war but it certainly builds up the disapproval from the Erudite faction to
the moral normand social norm which they think they should be the one ruling the society with
the intelligence more than being a selfless. Also, the Erudite finds out that the Abnegation leader
is actually not upholding the norms of selfless as he abused his own son which leading his child
to turn away from the family. Consequently, the Erudite tries to create new social norms; however,
they did not succeed. They should see the life as sacred and they should be following the Mayor
Mockus footstep by acting to the new rules personally, instead of hiding behind and deceive people
to do their work. Another reason that the Erudite plan is not successful because their inner demon
creates too much violence and opposing voices.
From the Week 4 reading The Better Angels of Our Nature , there is a sentence which is very
suitable for the setting of the novel. Steven Pinker wrote that even in peaceable societies, people
are fascinated by the logic of bluff and threat ... the vulnerabilities of a human body and how they
can be exploited or shielded. Even the initial state of government is trying to create the best
peacefulness to the society, the desire of the Erudite has broken the harmony by creating violence.
The Erudite is trying to rule the faction by make the society an own version of utopia. To do this,
they make false claims on the

Book Review Of Thatcher And Thatcherism
The book Thatcher and Thatcherism written by Eric J. Evans, already from its name, gave us a
sense of what about the book is. The book is divided into ten chapters which highlighted the main
areas of ThatcherВґs political life and issues that she dealt with. These chapters work as summaries
all important issues and facts.
The first chapter includes the background of political life in 1970Вґs Britain and it deeply
examines the phenomenon of Thatcherism. Moreover, it serves as overall introduction to whole
book and it could be viewed as a prelude to the following chapter by picturing Thatcher earlier
carrier in the Conservative Party before her Premiership that started after the victory of the
Conservative Party in 1979 election. Through the second chapter, Evans explained the reason of the
victory of the Conservative Party and ThatcherВґs success. Evans namely emphasized the Winter of
Discontent, which changed political situation in Britain. Therefore, Thatcher built her political
strategy on the promise that her government would bring revolutionary change in economy. It
seems that her campaign based on rhetoric Labour isn t working was also eagerly accepted by
voters.
The third chapter was carried in similar notion focusing on the factors that helped the Conservative
Party to win the second election. There was no doubt ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The importance of the main ingredients of the Montessori method : the directress and the

(Montessori, M., The Secret of Childhood, Part1, Chapter IV: Where adults impede the question of

For example, I ve noticed that at the Montessori school where I did my work experience the
children interacted repeatedly with the environment by using the Montessori materials: Dressing
frames or Pink Tower and this interaction lasted longer than the directress child one, because once
the child has been introduced to the Montessori materials he will learn as his nature dictates and
he will know how to do the Montessori activities without being in need of the directress. The
prepared environment has three components: one physical that is represented by the child sized
furniture and the Montessori materials, another intellectual created with the help of the directress
who designs the perfect climate for the child to work and develop himself and another one
spiritual offering the child patterns of spiritual behaviour through the genuine example given by
the directress.( I ve noticed at the Montessori school, in the pre school classroom that every time
the directress was praying before the snack time, the children took her example and did the
same). The directress is the one who plans the way in which the environment has to be prepared
for the children, according to the child s each activity and to the materials required for each
exercise; the things regarding the planning of the environment have to move from the directress to
the child: e.g. I ve seen at the Montessori School where I did my work experience that the
directress provided good quality and easy

Egyptians believed in. Egyptians would create these pieces to fit over the heads of the lost lives

A War Does Not Require Weapons
Acosta, Alejandro Rachel History 4C7/July 2015 A War does not Require Weapons In between
the timeline of World War One and World War Two, political leaders, states, and nations were
fighting against each other with and without the usage of weapons. The ideology of great
philosophers, and raising leaders, such as: Herbert Spencer, Leon Trotsky, Joseph Stalin, Great
Britain, and Russia brought civil wars and battles during the small timeframe between world
wars. Before we go into depth on the one 30 year war, we begin with the settings of this one 30
year war. In the beginning of the 19th century, European powerhouses, France and Russia, obtained
the same equal power. At the same period, Germany s industry began to grow tremendously which

Germany, Austria Hungry, and Italy was because Germany felt that its economic growth would

Jet Fuel Insurance Essay
Chapter 1: Introduction In the United States, biodiesel and biofuel production have increased
dramatically in recent years due to environmental issues from excessive petroleum usages. The
world is now severely depended on oil for many purposes: powering cars, airplanes, farm
vehicles, irrigation pumps, etc. It also plays a significant role as raw material for making many
products like chemical products, medicines, and fabrics. In the USA, it is becoming more
accessible to lessen the dependency on foreign oil. The second highest expense for airlines is
the cost of jet fuel. Any increase in oil prices effects huge amount on the airlines costs and
maintenances. The global demand for aviation fuel is above 40 billion gallons per year which
influenced researchers to explore high quality but low cost feedstocks to produce aviation
standard fuel (Oil Price.Com, 2011). Therefore, the key concern of commercial aviation is to find
reliable fuel alternatives to cut costs, and reduce volatility of fuel supply and carbon emissions. In

Rebecca Film Techniques
When Hitchcock wishes to exemplify a particular trait within his character, or reveal the
personality of a character, he does so with classy elegance. Such emphasis is laid onto few, yet
vital shots, which can reveal a whole lot of information in a few shots. Instead of using a wide
range of methods to convey the same information, why not simplify it, and convey the entire
array of emotions in a single, unique visual. For example; to exemplify the personality traits of a
lady, any other director of the time would have probably used a wide array of shots to convey the
same information. However Hitchcock says a whole lot, without saying much. In his filmRebecca,
the director wants to hint at the shrewdness, or the mean traits within a particular character, and he
achieves this by simply having the lady put out her cigarette, in something cold and delicate such as
cold cream. By showing this visual, the director allows us to understand what type of character this
lady is; without... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Introduction
Water is essential for all living things to survive. Without water, life would be impossible.
Seventy percent of the world is covered by water but only 2.5 percent is fresh water. (1) Not only
is freshwater used for domestic and personal purposes, it is also used for irrigation, thermoelectric,
industrial and agriculture. (2) Although freshwater seems to be untarnished, it regularly contains a
variety of solutes ranging from gas in the environment to inorganic salts and minerals of rocks.
Due to the ions dissolved, the water has a possibility to be hard or soft.
Water hardness is defined as the amount of dissolved calcium and magnesium in the water. (2) In
order to have hard water, calcium (Ca^(2+)) and magnesium (Mg^(2+)) need to have a high
concentration of both ions dissolved into the water. Depending on the amount of dissolved
minerals, water hardness has the possibility of being detected without actually experimentally
testing for it. Have you ever felt like you still had residue on your hands after washing with soap?
This is the effect of the calcium ions reacting with the soap. These effects have no effects for
humans when drinking this water but industries worry about their water s hardness for one main
reason.
Studying water hardness is important because

Essay on An Ex-Mas Feast Summary
An Ex Mas Feast Summary Uwem Akpan s story, An Ex Mas Feast is a story of the struggles that
one family goes through to give gifts on their upcoming Christmas season. Akpan introduces the
reader to the struggles of the main characters, which directly ties into the details of impoverished
town that they live in. Jigana, one of the story s main characters, starts off as a naГЇve 8 year old
little boy who was anxious to start going to school. In a stark contrast, Maisha, the eldest sister at
12 years old, held her own and prostituted to bring in money for her family. The second oldest,
Naema, was closer to Maisha than any of the others, and Maisha gave her tips and tricks of her
trade. Akpan begins the story by saying that the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result of this newfound concept that Maisha is considering going into the brothel, Jigana
undergoes a big transformation. He states adamantly that if she is going to the brothel, he will
not go to school. This begins the climax of the story, and in response to his claim, she says that
she will not support the family any more if Jigana doesn t go to school. When he brings up their
parents in front of the other prostitutes, Maisha gets extremely angry and ends up ignoring him for
weeks. From there, their life continues, and the siblings continue struggling to make ends meet;
nevertheless, they still take Baby out to earn a little extra money. When Naema comes home from
her shift with Baby, she announces that Maisha is moving out tomorrow, full time. Akpan makes
an important point at this point of the story saying that no matter how rootless and cheap street
life may be, you could still be broken by departures (21). Consequently, Jigana begins feeling
guilty that Maisha is leaving, as if he could have stopped her from leaving if he had just joined a
street gang so that she wouldn t be tempted by the musungu men to make money. Jigana then starts
to have nasty thoughts, now blaming the white tourists who lure Maisha in their Jaguars and take
advantage of her young self. He begins plotting ways he could get back at them, by enlisting the
help of Naema s powerful boyfriend, and hurting them with their dull blades.

Why Television Is The Extension Of Human Senses Along With...
Introduction In this day and age, television is seen as the most useful technology in the world
where we get enough information, entertainment and knowledge. People believe that it is more
preferable to have a television rather than to watch a live play in the theatre due to the freedom of
relaxation and high level of participation. In this essay, Marshall McLuhan s technology is the
extension of human senses along with Walter Benjamin s reproduction of art would be analyzed.
The main of this essay is to analyze two theoretical concepts and compare them to one another in
relation to televisionand also how these two theoretical concepts would approach television as a
technology. Television is a machine with a screen, which is used for... Show more content on

Then in 1906, Philo Taylor Farnsworth who was twenty one years old at that time invented
electrical Television on September 7th, 1927. During that time, electrical television was still black
and white; later on colour television was first introduced in the United States in 1953. Television
moved from just news and silent films to soap operas, cartoons, music videos and other types of
informational and entertainment things which influences us positively and negatively.
Theories
Marshall McLuhan, who was a Canadian communication theorist, was very much interested in
technology and how it shapes the advanced modern society. His very famous theory was the medium
is the message which means that the resource used or mode through which they are presenting
shows the message, not really the content. This theory then leads to how technology is seen as an
extension to human senses. McLuhan stated, Media have powerful effects on societies. Moreover,
media become extensions of ourselves; extensions of our human senses (Laughey, 2010, p. 33). Just
like the way our eyes see, our nose smell, our skin feels and our other senses have their function,
McLuhan emphasis the fact that technology is the extension of our psychological, social and
intellectual (inner) senses. In relation to Television as a technology, McLuhan would agree that
technology is an extension to our human sense due to the fact that in recent days it is something that
is used everyday. Humans use

The Battle Of Okinawa As Operation Iceberg
The battle of Okinawa, also known as Operation Iceberg, took place in April June 1945. It was
the largest military operation landing in the Pacific theater of World War II. It was also the final
battle in the effort to defeat the Japanese combatants against the Allied forces. Okinawa was the
largest island in the Ryukyu Islands and being only 350 miles away from the Japanese homeland
of Kyushuit, it was strategically advantageous for the Allies. The Japanese, Okinawans, and the
Allies were all aware that Okinawa was the final objective for an invasion of the Japanese
homeland. The Japanese had fortified Okinawa from the beginning of the war. Because of this, the

Evaluation Of A New Business Manager
If you re a new business owner and have just begun accepting credit cards for payments, you don t
want to be caught unaware of the regulations involved in handling sensitive personal data. The
consequences of improper procedures could be penalties, fees and even termination of your card
processing account. Read on to learn about PCI regulations and what you need to do to remain
compliant.
What is PCI?
PCI stands for Payment Card Industry. When referring to the subject of PCI compliance, you are
actually talking about a set of industry standards known as PCI DSS, where the DSS stands for Data
Security Standards. These standards were designed to ensure that businesses handle credit card
information in a secure manner.
The first version of data security standards was released in December 2004 to combat the
increasing rate at which cardholder information was being stolen online. The PCI DSS was
established in 2006 with the formation of the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council
(PCI SSC). The council focuses on improving security of credit card transactions as technology and
market trends change the security concerns in the industry.
The PCI SSC was created by the major credit card brands, including MasterCard, Visa, American
Express and Discover; however, the council is not responsible for PCI compliance. It s the payment
brands that actually enforce the standards.
Who needs to comply with PCI security standards?
In short, any organization or business that

The Importance Of The Protestant Reformation
When I think of the Protestant Reformation, the first thing that comes to mind is the
Augsburg Confession. The protestant reformation can be defined as the 16th century religious,
political, intellectual and cultural upheaval that splintered Catholic Europe, setting in place the
structures and beliefs that would define the continent in the modern era. The augsburg confession is
the foremost confession of faith for the Lutheran Church. It was written by Phillip Melanchton and
presented to Charles V on June 25, 1530. The main goal of this confession was to restore religious
and political unity. There are also many reasons why the augsburg confession ties into this and
reveals its importance throughout history.
There are 28 articles included in the confession but we are going to focus on the first four: God, the
original sin, Christ and justification. The first article that the augsburg confession reveals is God.
The church was a major component to the way of life in this era, so they had copious amounts of
control over people and the consequences based on betrayal. The churches were based on catholic
views and the aspects of their beliefs could be supplemented by leaders that wanted to extend their
power and control the church. The goal of the protestant reformation was to change those views that
the churches were claiming to be the right way to do things. In the augsburg confession it outlines
the importance of God saying that he is eternal, without body, without parts...

The nature of cancer requires clinical evaluation in a timely manner. The standard of care for

How Did Friedman Who Wrote The Bible Review
Who Wrote the Bible Review For many, the Hebrew bible is read and accepted without question.
It plays a significant role in the practice of many religions and yet not many dare to wonder who
wrote such sacred writings that would still be read to this very day. For generations, it was almost
unheard of to ask or even fathom the identity of the author. Richard Elliot Friedman, a biblical
scholar and graduate from Harvard University, explores, studies, and analyzes the bibleto discover
who wrote it. Having earned a master degree in theology, B.A degree in Philosophy, and master
degree in Hebrew literature, Friedman proves to be a knowledgeable expert in his field of studies.
From the years of work he invested into, Friedman aims to provide convincing evidence that the
book is written by four persons through historical, archaeological, logical proof. Friedman s
structure to prove that source J and E were written by different authors was jointed together because
they complimented each other in their differences. Friedman believes that source J was written by a
man in the southern kingdom of Judahbetween the time of 848 B.C and 722 B.C while the author
of source E was written in the northern kingdom of Israelbetween 922 B.C. and 722 B.C. The
narration of the stories and the time period it was written in was used to support this idea. One of

God Is Good And Evil
The naturally good world has been corrupted by evil, and a God is going to restore it to its nature.
Apparently, the restoration is indeed obvious. It is shown through the everlasting teachings of
kindness, harmony, and peace. Men are smart, but they are selfish and ignorant, making them
unable to invent such moral teachings. Hence, those teachings, or Laws, are derived from an
another source Godwho is perfectly selfless. Indeed, Christianity is sensical, for there are
evidences that God is making changes in humanity. If there is a God, then who God is, by the
way? Those who believe in God have always questioned the Supreme Being in whom they believed

Similarly, all of the innocent Jews would be executed cruelly as Hitler treated them as if they had
been devils. Or in a more Biblical context, had everyone agreed with the Romans perspectives that
Christians were evil, Christianity would not have existed. To this point, the Pantheists could argue
that Vengeance should not be done because there is a God, who is beyond Good and Evil, tells
human not to do so. If God was beyond Good and Evil, how would he decide which actions are
good and bad. As he was neither Good nor Evil, he could judge any action was moral or immoral.
For instance, he could say forgiveness is Good. At the same time, he could also declare Killing
is good, for goodness and badness did not simply exist in him. If God was this way, no one
would choose to follow him. In contrast, a Good God creates a Moral Law, which commands
people to forgive and not to kill. Universally, everyone knows that killing is bad, and forgiveness
is good, but why it is so? Killing is bad because such action goes against the direction of the
Moral Law. Conversely, Forgiveness is good because it abides by the Moral Law. A Good God
makes the Moral Law, and solely the Good God leads men to a better world. A Pantheists God
only leaves humanity as it has been. Another man made answer to the question is Dualism, which
states that the universe is a battlefield of two Deities Good and Bad(Lewis, 1952, p. 42). However,

The Moral Dilemma Of Children
For nine long, gestational months, a mother to be is seen as the carrier of the future. The ultimate
protector that should want to do any and everything possible to ensure that her baby has the best
opportunity for life. Being a guardian the child is her moral obligation to it because it cannot take

while pregnant? There will be those that will support the mother whatever path she takes, and
surely those that will think of the mother as ethically unsound. Seana Shiffrin and her Wrongful

congenital disability and choosing to have it despite the moral dilemma, it does applies to the
culpability of drug using mothers. Shiffrin believes that people do not look at child birth done
haphazardly as something a mother is accountable for. However, Shiffrin believes that those who
acted negligently or worse toward the foreseeable burdens their children would incur should be
liable (Shiffrin,135). I believe that in the case of criminality, She would view mothers with a drug

Seamus Heaney s Blackberry-Picking
We all have childhood memories that we can reflect on and feel a sense of happiness, but some
memories we can look back in disgust at the competency we had as children through silly
accomplishments that we had been praised for. In Blackberry Picking, by Seamus Heaney uses
symbolism and diction to suggest power and repugnance as the poem s tone as a means to
emphasize the narrator s success that he felt while picking blackberries, as well as compare the
gruesomeness of Bluebeard to the senses brought forth by the harvesting of the first blackberry.
The author writes about the narrator eating the blackberries using gruesome words such as, clot,
flesh, and blood, to give the reader a negative connotation towards the taste and texture of the
berries. Heaney compares the hands of the children to Bluebeard, a fairy tale character who
killed all of his wives; he uses references to gore to exemplify the comparison between Bluebeard
and the berries that stain the narrator s hands. When the author describes the berries using blood,
it can be seen as foreshadow towards the grim story of Bluebeard, as well as the words: clot and

Collaboration in My Home Group
My Contribution Paper Collaboration consists of a few fundamental components such as the
willingness to listen and learn from each other, sharing one s own ideas and perspectives, having
respect for each other, working together to achieve a common goal, and being responsible for

willing to go the extra miles to make sure everyone in the group is feeling comfortable
presenting their ideas in the group. While working in my Home group this quarter, we have
came up with a few norms, such as do not interrupt when someone else is talking, be accepting of
everyone s opinion, debate ideas not people, help each other, be responsible for one s own
assigned roles and tasks, give everyone a chance to talk and participate, be flexible when doing
group work, try to be on time, try to participate in each discussion topic, and be prepared before
class. All of these norms tied back to the fundamental components of collaboration that

Comparing Intersex And Transgender Females Deserve A Place...
Intersex and transgender females deserve a place of belonging in the world of sport. Society s
need to categorize humans makes it difficult for minorities to find a sense of belonging. Humans
are easily given labels by society as gay, straight, black, asian, female, male etc. This system works
for the majority of people, and those who fit in do not see a necessity to change these constructs. As
Judith Butler argues in her essay Undoing Genderwe must remake the definition of human by
deconstructing our preconceived notion of humanity and continuously reassembling it. Butler
eloquently states This means we must learn to live and to embrace the destruction and re
articulation of the human in the name of a more capacious and, finally, less... Show more content on

Physicist Ira Hammerman discovered that in a set of swimming and running races woman s world
records were consistently about 90 percent of the men s world record. Further research proved this
ratio true across diverse sports (Meyer). Many believe that a male to female transgender holds an
unfair competitive advantage against a cisgender female because they were born as males and
therefore retain some of the advantages that come with masculinity. These advantages go beyond
the biological differences in gender which can be equated with hormonal treatment. In her essay
Essentialism and Experience Bell Hooks discusses the effect of male privilege. She argues that
male students, who have spent most of their lives benefitting from male privilege, do not fully
understand the passion of experience in a classroom. Similarly we can explore the benefits of
male privilege in sport which is a drastically male dominant aspect of society. A study at the
University of Southern California uncovered that L.A. based broadcast affiliates devote only 3.2
percent of airtime to women s sport (Good). Iris Young builds on this societal imbalance in her
essay Throwing Like a Girl. Young explains how societal structures have a psychological effect on
female performance. She argues that the fact that women cannot throw as far as men is not simply
due to the biomechanical differences between genders but rather

Football Is A Popular Sport Essay
Football is a game that has a major impact on the fans, cities, and history of multiple teams and
organizations. Many can connect to the game on an emotional basis and that is why football is
such a popular sport today. There have been a lot of people that have contributed to this sport
from the beginning to today s time. They have helped create a basis for the game (rules, field
length, field goal size, etc.), decide how to crown a champion, and start organizations to help
athletes. There have also been multiple coaches that have played major roles in leading their team
and progressing the game to what it is today. While coaches play an important role, there are also
individual games that have shaped the way the game is played along with the rules. Each of these
things have been key and instrumental in progressing the game through time while building one of
the most beloved and popular sports of today s time, and Footballis a game that will have a long
future ahead of it. Before talking about where football came from one must first look at what
sport it evolved from. When the sport first began it was similar to rugby, which had been around
for quite some time at that point. Football began to evolve through time to an extent that it is
being played in public schools across the country and also gaining a worthy following. Then came
along Walter Camp, the football coach at Yale from 1888 1892 and Stanford from 1892 1894.
While Camp attended Yale he actually played

The Mayan Civilization and Culture
Many of the cultures that we have today have evolved from past events. Such as language it was
something that became known throughout the years. Some of the languages that came from that
were English, Spanish, German, and Latin to name a few. These languages were derived more past
civilizations. One important civilizationthat is known for having great success is the Mayan
civilization. The Mayan civilization is known for many things like they fully developed written
language, art, architecture, math and some other factors. Historians have said that they don t know
an exact date of when this civilization rose up but they do mention that it flourished for about 2000
years. Although staring in 250 AD it is said that it was the start of their high point and it continued
until the arrival of the Spanish in 1524. The Maya area covers southern Mexico and northwestern
Central America. According to Sharer the area is divided into three regions: the Pacific coastal
plain to the south, the highlands in the center, and the lowlands to the north. Even though these
three regions were under the same civilization they all practiced different religious rituals. Religion
plays a big role in every civilization. Some civilizations tend to praise more than one god and they
always mention that what they have is thanks to their god. When they see things going wrong they
often say that their god is punishing them because they did something that the god/s did not like.
This tends to be the same

Monica Geller said the first line of the situation comedy, Friends, which was, There s nothing to

The group of friends encounter many difficulties when trying to be successful in the city, and go
through numerous awkward situations too. The plot of the sitcom Friends is one of the main
reasons that the sitcom lasted a long time. An article titled 5 Generic TV Sitcom Plots That Will
Never Die claimed that the five generic TV sitcom plots that will never die are working together,
when friends and relatives become involved, pregnancy problems, annoying friends, and when
the one that got away returns ( 5 Generic TV 1). Friends includes every single one of these
situations. The friends Phoebe and Monica work together in a restaurant. This causes problems
for Monica because Phoebe slows the cooking process down. Monica eventually has to figure out
a way to fire Phoebe which causes tension throughout the sitcom. Tension also arose between
Chandler and Joey when Joey found out that Chandler had kissed on of his sisters. Even more
tension came about when Joey discovered that Chandler did not even know the name of the sister
he kissed. Another awkward situation included in the sitcom is when Ross and Rachel face
pregnancy problems. When Rachel and Ross had a fling, Rachel became pregnant. They had been
in a relationship before, but found out that their combination could never work. Because the two

Canada s Economy Research Paper
Today, Canada s economy is about the 15th largest economy in the world. According to OEC,
Canada has the 11th largest exporter in the world. Exporting and trading has been a major
characteristic of the Canadian economy before Canada even became a country. Its economic history
begins prior to European colonization with First Nations societies commonly hunting and trading.
Exporting will always be a prominent aspect of Canadas economy. One characteristic about why
Canada has one of the world s largest economies is because Canada has a vast land that provides
so many natural resources that can be exploited and traded. Looking at how Canada s economy
developed in its early stages are important historically and economically for many reasons. Firstly,

Canada s geographical location was in close proximity to places such as Europe and the United
States. It is also a country which has a land that is extremely abundant with natural resources that
could be exploited. It also featured an already established trade network between the Indigenous
tribes and the French and British who would trade for furs. These characteristics of Canada made
European people permanently settle and colonize the lands. As they became settled the Europeans
began to exploit Canada for its vast abundance of resources that they could trade. They would
trade products such as alcohol and weapons to the Aboriginals in exchange for their furs. That was
the beginning of the Fur Trade that became one of Canada s biggest industries to export all over.
This settlement as well as the Europeans who settled in the Atlantic region of Canada began to
approach the fishing industry. Both fishing and the fur trade became the foremost products of
Canada well into the 19th century. One main aspect that allowed these products and industries to
flourish was the waterways that both products depended on to be exported and traded. Mackintosh
(1923) notes that the important area of Canada, the Atlantic coast, was easily accessible by the first
European settlers who took advantage of Canada s structure, including the waterways, that was one
of the most critical elements that allowed the country to develop (p. 13). That structure shaped the
course of westward progress; it facilitated or hindered the connection of the frontier with the older
settlements and with Europe; it selected to some extent its own settlers; and together with other
factors it determined the trend of industrial production (Mackintosh, 1923, p. 12). The major
waterways such as the St. Lawrence river and the Great Lakes allowed the products to move
westward and

Porter s Five Forces Analysis Of The Pharmaceutical Industry
Porter s Five Forces Analysis of Pharmaceutical Industry
Porter s Five Competitive Forces Analysis is a framework developed by Michael E. Porter of
Harvard Business School for study of industry analysis by analyzing five competitive forces which
define industry and its business strategy. These five competitive forces determine the competitive
advantages, disadvantages and attractiveness or profitability of industry.
We analyzed the Indian Pharmaceutical industry on these five forces and the findings of industry
competitiveness and profitability are written under the relevant competitive forces.
Bargaining Power of Buyers
In pharmaceutical industry, the end user of the product (patient) is different from the influencer
(doctor) influencing his decisions. This is a unique feature of pharmaceutical industry. Consumer
/Patient behavior in India suggests that he will buy whatever medicine is prescribed by his doctor
or physician. Therefore we can say that doctors influence the buying power of buyers. In branded
market like India patients/pharmacists cannot usually substitute ... Show more content on

In pharma industry the raw materials mainly consist of organic chemicals. The need of different
organic chemicals depends on the chemical formulae of drug. Pharmaceutical industry depends on
various different organic chemicals for the production of end drugs. The chemical industry itself
is very competitive and also very fragmented because their products (organic chemicals) are
standardized and steps to produce them are also standardized. The chemicals used in pharma
industry are commodity as pharmaceutical companies do production on economies of scale to
lower the cost. The suppliers have low bargaining power because companies can switch to a new
supplier without incurring a high cost. But there is a threat from supplier if it decides to go for
forward integration and become a pharma industry

The Exclusivity of the Art Market
That which costs little is less valued, said novelist Miguel de Cervantes (Saavedra, 1819). A
phenomenon very true to the art markets, one might say. Elitism and exclusivity drive the art
world. Value of art works is socially and subjectively constructed, based on one s concocted
rationales of what is significant and what is not. Giving art works the title of commodities, hence, is
rather trivial, particularly due to the nature and quality of these works. One cannot, however, deny
that in the case of contemporary art, capitalism and the art world seem to run hand in hand.
Ben Lewis 2009 documentary The Great Contemporary Art Bubble provides a pretty clear picture
of money and power concentrated in an unregulated art market where ... Show more content on

The documentary presented examples of British art world businessman Charles Saatchi who
triggered and supported the extraordinary prices for the works of Damien Hirst, as well as collector
Jose Mugrabi, whose collection of 800 Warhols indubitably amounts to cornering the market.
(Lewis, 2009)
Art markets are notorious for their lack of transparency and information asymmetries provide
several opportunities for immoral activities to take place. (Velthuis, 2011) On the day of the
declaration of bankruptcy by Lehman Brothers, the worst financial crisis in history, Damien Hirst
sold his art at a record price of ВЈ70 million, in an auction at Sotheby s. It was apparent, however,
that Hirst and his colleagues had manipulated the sale prices by engaging dummy bidders into the
auction sales. (Lewis, 2009) Thus, while the rest of the economy was slowly falling apart, the
contemporary art bubble kept on inflating, bigger than ever before. It was the peak of the
contemporary art bubble, and also the start of its downfall. A month after this triumph, the
contemporary art market crashed, dropping by 40% in November 2008 and 75% by February 2009.
(Art Market Trends, 2011)
Additionally, budget and subsidies cuts for cultural institutes were seen all over Europe and UK,
following the recession of 2008. As a result, many galleries and institutions had to close shop. In
entirety, the art market experienced a huge loss of confidence due to the financial

Business Law 100
Question (a) Identify the principle of law The principles of law relevant to this question are the
doctrines of intention and consideration. Explain the rules of law The doctrine of intention is an
undertaking by both sides of an agreement to be legally bound either by an informal agreement
such as verbal intention to purchase or act, or a written document stating intention to purchase or
act, which could be in the form of a letter or a written statement as compared to a formal agreement
where a deed is prepared stating the intention of the contract which is signed and witnessed by

Therefore the object of equal exchange is not necessary. In bilateral contracts when two parties
promise to provide consideration to each other the contract becomes valid immediately the
parties exchange promises as the promise to each other is deemed sufficient consideration.
Apply the law to the facts The points of discussion are to consider whether the elements of
intention and consideration have been met to enforce a contract. The intention of both Jamie
and Gina to act is made clear when Gina calls for tenders to build accommodation facilities at her
mine site and Jamie submits a tender, this in itself is not sufficient enough to form a contract as
no promises of exchange have been agreed to or accepted. At this point Jamie has made an offer
to Gina indicating his intention in exchange for a consideration of money and Gina has
indicated her intention, in exchange for goods and services. Gina decides to accept Jamie s
tender and in doing so sends a formal document in the form of a letter to Jamie, stating the terms
and conditions of her acceptance. It is at this point that Gina has accepted Jamie s tender and the
terms of intention and consideration to form a contract have been met by Gina and now relies on
Jamie being able to meet the terms of the contract and giving a formal reply to Gina to complete
the contract. Jamie is going to accept Gina s terms and conditions and does so by

Summary Of Father And Son Relationships In Henry IV Part 1
While almost any man can father a child, there is so much more importance of the father figure
in a child s lifetime. Fathers that are willing to be actively involved have a great importance in
their sons lives. They are able to add to their sons knowledge of manhood. Shakespeare made that
certain in his writing Henry IV, Part 1 . This play goes into depth of father son relationships
between two characters; Hotspur and Prince Hal. These two characters both posed fathers that had
the capability of affecting their life choices and not always for the right reasons. The two men had
two father figures to look up to. Falstaff, was an old drunk who revolved his life around partying
and stealing. Henry IV believed that Prince Hal was simply sent to him as a punishment. The
two together both made Prince Hal the man he was. Hotspur had the two conniving father
figures; Thomas and Henry Percy. Their overall plan was just to make Hotspur s life and living
hell. Father and son relationships have the capability to influence one s relationships with others
and the choices made in their futures and that is exactly what these men did. Henry IV Part one
tells a story about Prince Hal, a heir to the british throne and his evolution from wild child to an
independent leader. However, Prince Hal stated this whole wild child movement was just for show.
He believes that acting like an immature young adult and then having a big change will make the
people enjoy his as a leader even more.

Similarities Between Lady Of The Dog And The Lady With The...
Certain people are unfaithful and feel there is nothing wrong with cheating on your significant

Anton Chekhov. In this story Anna Sergeyevna and Dmitri Gurov have an affair together. Another
similar example is in The Lady with the Pet Dog by Joyce Carol Oates. In her story Anna meets a
man on the beach and they have an affair together. Both stories contain affairs and how each person
deals with the situation. The two stories have different relationships between the husbands and
wives, they both have the theme of fate, and different female character traits. Anton Chekhovs story

Anna uses him to get away from her past and have a better future. Chekhov s story is better
because the affair between Anna and Dmitri is more justified than the affair in Oates story. Both
stories have the theme of fate in them, and the characters use fate as a reason for their affairs. In
Chekhov s story Anna says, It s a good thing I am leaving, she said to Gurov. It s the hand of Fate
(218 Chekhov). Anna and Dmitri use fate as an excuse for their affair. They claim it is fate that
brought them together and now it is fate that will draw them apart. Then later on, the two believe,
...it seemed to them that Fate itself had meant them for one another... (224 Chekhov). Both Anna
and Dmitri believe fate is the cause of their relationship. The two believe they are forced to be
apart because of their arranged marriages, but fate has brought them back together. Dmitri and Anna
believe their relationship is in the hands of fate. Then in Oates story, Anna uses Fate to justify why
she shouldn t have an affair. She thinks, This is fate, she thought, to be here and not there, to be one
person and not another, a certain man s wife and not the wife of another man (230 Oates). Anna
feels guilty about having the affair, and believes fate is the reason she must remain with her husband
. She is convinced if fate had wanted her to be with another man other than her husband, she would
be with the other man. In the end, she changes her mind and says, This man, whom

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Heat Pump
The above diagrams illustrates how easy it is to utilise the key components but to reverse the
process i.e. to pump heat out rather than in, thus becoming an air conditioning unit (more correctly
called a cooling unit).
All the main components remain same with just the flow reversed (via the 4 way reversing valves)
and some additional minor components (e.g. check valves and specific expansion valve).
Simultaneous heating and cooling
The Heat Pump can be designed and configured as a multi mode machine.
To generate only hot water from ambient air

Water to Water (W W).
Water to Air (W A).
Water Source (iii. iv.) can be further subdivided:
a.Closed Loop: this is the most common form of Ground source system when buried.
b.Open Loop: much less common than closed loop ground source (e.g. ground Aquifer; open lake,
river or sea).
This sort of unit designation would lead to better description and slightly less confusion. It also
highlights that the key difference between water source heat pumps which work on closed and
open loops in the ground is the temperature they work at rather than the medium itself (which is the
same water).
3Based on Motive / generating power input.
Heat pumps are also sometimes designated by the fuel source used to drive the process which is
most usually electricity ( 95%), less commonly natural gas and much less commonly LPG.
4.Based on Operating Temperature
For heat pumps generating hot water in their condensers (i.e. Air or Water to Water units) another
sub description is the flow temperature capability.

i.e. 65В°C.
For heat pumps producing warm air the temperature should not drop below 38В°C to prevent risk of

Heroine Epidemic Research Paper
The York community has been very effective in dealing with the heroine epidemic. Some efforts
that have been most effective in dealing with it are NARCAN, the Good Samaritan Law, and
the rehab program that the York and Adams county drug councilor talked about on Thursday.
NARCAN has been very effected because, like I said before, it s a medication that can save
someone life after an overdose. It doesn t always work right away so if it doesn t it can be injected
again. It works 80 90 percent of the time. It can be injected into someone. It also could be a nasal
spray up their nose. Saving lives definitely effects the heroine epidemic. 15 people in York were
saved last year. Not only is NARCAN very effective, but so is the Good Samaritan Law.... Show

The Good Samaritan Law says that if someone has overdosed and whoever is with them calls
911 to get them help, the person that called will not be in trouble for having drugs. This is so
effective because it has raised the probability of someone calling 911 if their friend has
overdosed. Before this a lot of people would just leave the scene and let someone die just so that
they don t get in trouble. This is a really great law to have in my opinion. Other than this law
effecting the heroine epidemic, the rehab that the York and Adams County drugcounselors talked
about is also very effective. On Thursday when they came in, the last presenter talked about a
certain rehab for people who are addicted to heroine. It seemed like a really good place to go to
help addictions. When he talked about the specific rehab and the people in it he seemed like a
really good, caring person. I think people like that really help with this. I thought that his rehab
facility is very effective in York because of caring people like

  • 2. How Water Shaped Michigan How Water Shaped Michigan For many years, I have always wondered how Michigan was shaped. I did not realize that water could have such a huge impact on the way Michigan was made. From doing research, I recognized that there has been four Ice Ages on Earth. The last Ice Age, Pleistocene Epoch began and ended two million years to 12,000 years. At this time, hot and cold temperatures swayed and glaciers receded to advance into the interglacial periods. In the United States, and around the world glaciers have carved out our landscape, making what the world is today. The first glaciers circulated south from what is now Canada. From what I ve researched the Great Lakes were once riverbeds, which provided the glaciers perfect passage to the south. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sand dunes are mounds of windblown sand, which vary greatly in size, from less than one meter to tens of meters high. The size depends upon the supply of sand. Many of the more recognizable dune forms are ridges or complexes of mounds or crescents. The shape of individual dunes is equally variable. Shape relates to the direction and strength of the wind forming it, as well as to the amount of sand available. The impressive sand dunes along the eastern shore of Lake Michigan were created by the prevailing westerly winds blowing the sand deposited along the beaches into the dune ... • 3. Theme Of Nostalgia In No Country For Old Men No Country for Old Men is a novel that revolves heavily around the theme of nihilism and nostalgia. Main characters, Sheriff Bell and Anton Chigurh represent this immensely throughout the novel. Nihilism is a philosophy that emphasizes on the idea that all values are baseless and life is meaningless. Nostalgia is a sentimental yearning affection for the past. In the novel, Anton Chigurh represents nihilism and Sheriff Bell represents nostalgia. As conveyed in the title, there is no longer a place for old men and old values in the new world. Sheriff Bell has fallen into a trap of nostalgia and idealizing the past while rejecting the present. Anton Chigurh, on the other hand, is an active nihilist in the new world. Throughout the novel, Sheriff Bell, the protagonist, continually considers the contrast between old ways and the new ways. He holds to a nostalgic view of the past, reminiscing about a time where order and just ruled. He talks about a time where police officers didn t need to carry guns and knew the people of their communities and kids were safe at school and on track to become good citizens. The senseless violence he encounters, however, leads him to believe that the country is heading toward havoc. He says that he thought [he d] never seen a person like that and it got [him] to wonderin if maybe [the boy] was some new kind (McCarthy 2) and that the new kind has another view of the world out there and other eyes to see it and that s where this is goin (McCarthy 2). Anton Chigurh, the antagonist of the novel, is the embodiment of this new kind . He is perceived as a personification of evil. Chigurh lacks any trace of empathy and operates solely to fulfill his personal aspirations. Throughout the novel, he has shown disregard for law and the value of human life. He embodies this through many things, including with the use of one of his weapons to kill people, a bolt gun, a tool used to slaughter cattle. He used this weapon to kill a man and steal his car. He used the weapon to avoid the law, being that he would not be traced caught by the cops because he is leaving nothing behind. Chigurh other weapon of choice he arms himself with is a Remington semi auto shotgun, which he used to kill ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Advantages Of Virtual Machines Abstract This paper refers to the features of Virtual Machines and Virtual Machines Monitors describing the performance and challenges as well as mechanisms such as fault tolerance, high availability and v motion. Main theme depicts that modern servers are designed sufficiently powerful to use virtualization into many smaller virtual machines (VMs), each running a separate operating system instance [1]. For example, the instruction execution stream of an operating system s idle loop or the code for lock busy waiting is indistinguishable at the monitor s level from some important calculation. The result is that the monitor may schedule resources for useless computation while useful computation may be waiting. Similarly, the monitor does not know when a page is no longer being actively used by a virtual machine, so it cannot reallocate it to another virtual machine. In general, the monitor must make resource management decisions without the high level knowledge that an operating system would have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What is more, teen couples bite each other regularly to show affection, sometimes so hard they draw blood and what is even more bizarre: some of them cut their skin so they can taste one another s blood. According to doctors biting can lead to diseases. Fifteen percent of bites from humans can become infected; moreover, biting can spread sometimes blood borne diseases like HIV, hepatitis or syphilis. Let s see an example from the first part of Twilight Saga, because it has been already mentioned. In the first part of the series, Bella says, About three things I was absolutely positive. First, Edward was a vampire. Second, there was a part of him and I didn t know how potent that part might be that thirsted for my blood. And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him. (Meyer,195) It sounds as if teenagers are influenced to fall in love with something like Satan. So it is enough if the man is handsome, it doesn t matter if he is life threatening. In the end, just like in fairy tales, everything is going to be alright and they will live happily ever after. The only problem is that in real life it doesn t work. Death With Dignity Ethical Issues Death with Dignity in California and Oregon When working in the healthcare field, many ethical issues come arise that causes us to think about our choices and actions. One major ethical debate is the Right to Die or also known as Death with Dignity . Death with Dignity is an assisted death by a physician for the terminally ill who do not want to face anymore pain. There have been constant ongoing controversial debates if this is ethically moral with many who are supporters and many who oppose this. They fear for the abuse of medication by the physician and sometimes the pressure of others for the patients to intake the medication. According to Anderson (2015), he believes there are four problems that comes along with physician assisted suicide which are endangering the weak and vulnerable, corrupt of practice of medicine, compromise of the family commitments, and betray of human dignity and equality before the law (Anderson, 2015). He makes some very good points where anyone would be convinced that physician assisted death could be questioned on their ethics and policies. They fear that it brings more inadequate physician care to actually try to save the patient or to reduce the pain. This leads to poor physician and patient quality in their relationship and reduces the commitment they have with each other. In the third issue, those who oppose fear that with physician assisted death, people will try to abuse this by trying to tempt elderly and disabled people to take this medication for their own benefit and feel that the burden will be uplifted if they do choose to go through with it. The last problem they argue is that it violates human dignity and denies equality before the law. This is where ethics comes into play between the physician and the patient. The physicians have a tough decision to see if the patient is eligible for the medication or not and it is up to the patient to determine if they do want to end their life with all their family and friends to feel the burden. For physician assisted death advocates, they argue that it up to patient s autonomy and what they choose to do to their body. Even with these issues, more states are leaning towards passing the law of physician assisted death and more advocates are joining the Death with Dignity ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Unsure of exactly what movie to watch, I looked for an interesting title on the list, hoping that one may jump out at me and interest me. I did not want to write a paper on something I had watched previously, as I did not want to have a biased opinion and I wanted to make sure I paid attention to all the details for the paper. If I had seen the movie before, I may have skipped over it or lost focus during the film. The title Born on the Fourth of July seemed patriotic and I wondered what exactly it would be about. I decided to research a synopsis of the film and realized it was about a soldier and in turn I assumed the disorder displayed in the movie would be Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The Zhou Dynasty, an early Chinese empire, ruled to around the beginning of the Han Dynasty. Their government was based on feudalism; this giving power to the rich in their society. Overextension led to the fall of their rule, leading to the rise of Confucianism and Legalism. These beliefs along with Taoism led to the warring states period, these views leading to the start of the Qin Dynasty and then to the Confucianist Han Dynasty. Like the beginning of the Han Dynasty, the Roman Empirebegan with nobility rule. A difference would be that the Roman Republic s fall had more to do with the tension between the classes. I can use here z test for one sample proportion since I want to compare if there is a significant difference between the sample proportion (i.e. PKU rates in that certain state) and the population proportion (U.S. PKU rate distribution). Also since the sample size is sufficiently large, then it does not pose any problem with the normality (since np 5). b. In this case to get the correlational coefficient of the variable if it is ordinal, then I could use Spearman rank rho coefficient and if it is interval or ratio level I could use the Pearson product coefficient of correlation. In the end I can check if the correlation is statistically significant by using the t test for significant correlation coefficient. c. I can use here t test for dependent samples (because of the phrase before and after ), since the same group of sample will measured twice, before a treatment, and after a treatment. Of course, we need to check if all the assumptions are met, such as normality, equality of variance and randomness of samples. d. I can use here Chi square test of independence. Since we want to know if there is a relationship or difference between the college students responses to the likert question, based on their major fields of study (nutrition, nursing, and social work) So we want to test if the two variables are dependent or independent with one another. Assumption of Chi square must also be checked. e. Either I can compute for the mode of the distribution (for descriptive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Each faction is required to focus on the responsibility and they have different values, they do not agree to each other core virtues; therefore, one faction is not willing to communicate with the other faction. Although during the period of ruling, there is no war but it certainly builds up the disapproval from the Erudite faction to the moral normand social norm which they think they should be the one ruling the society with the intelligence more than being a selfless. Also, the Erudite finds out that the Abnegation leader is actually not upholding the norms of selfless as he abused his own son which leading his child to turn away from the family. Consequently, the Erudite tries to create new social norms; however, they did not succeed. They should see the life as sacred and they should be following the Mayor Mockus footstep by acting to the new rules personally, instead of hiding behind and deceive people to do their work. Another reason that the Erudite plan is not successful because their inner demon creates too much violence and opposing voices. Such emphasis is laid onto few, yet vital shots, which can reveal a whole lot of information in a few shots. Instead of using a wide range of methods to convey the same information, why not simplify it, and convey the entire array of emotions in a single, unique visual. For example; to exemplify the personality traits of a lady, any other director of the time would have probably used a wide array of shots to convey the same information. However Hitchcock says a whole lot, without saying much. In his filmRebecca, the director wants to hint at the shrewdness, or the mean traits within a particular character, and he achieves this by simply having the lady put out her cigarette, in something cold and delicate such as cold cream. Discovering Water Hardness Lab Report Discovering Water Hardness Lab Report Brittany Basinger Thursday March 26, 2015 Chemistry 111 Group Members: Katherine Heininger Andrew Beckett Drew Bednarski TA: Joe Fortenbaugh Introduction Water is essential for all living things to survive. Without water, life would be impossible. Seventy percent of the world is covered by water but only 2.5 percent is fresh water. (1) Not only is freshwater used for domestic and personal purposes, it is also used for irrigation, thermoelectric, industrial and agriculture. (2) Although freshwater seems to be untarnished, it regularly contains a variety of solutes ranging from gas in the environment to inorganic salts and minerals of rocks. Due to the ions dissolved, the water has a possibility to be hard or soft. Water hardness is defined as the amount of dissolved calcium and magnesium in the water. (2) In order to have hard water, calcium (Ca^(2+)) and magnesium (Mg^(2+)) need to have a high concentration of both ions dissolved into the water. Depending on the amount of dissolved minerals, water hardness has the possibility of being detected without actually experimentally testing for it. Have you ever felt like you still had residue on your hands after washing with soap? This is the effect of the calcium ions reacting with the soap. These effects have no effects for humans when drinking this water but industries worry about their water s hardness for one main reason. Studying water hardness is important because ... From there, their life continues, and the siblings continue struggling to make ends meet; nevertheless, they still take Baby out to earn a little extra money. Just like the way our eyes see, our nose smell, our skin feels and our other senses have their function, McLuhan emphasis the fact that technology is the extension of our psychological, social and intellectual (inner) senses. The protestant reformation can be defined as the 16th century religious, political, intellectual and cultural upheaval that splintered Catholic Europe, setting in place the structures and beliefs that would define the continent in the modern era. The augsburg confession is the foremost confession of faith for the Lutheran Church. It was written by Phillip Melanchton and presented to Charles V on June 25, 1530. It plays a significant role in the practice of many religions and yet not many dare to wonder who wrote such sacred writings that would still be read to this very day. For generations, it was almost unheard of to ask or even fathom the identity of the author. Richard Elliot Friedman, a biblical scholar and graduate from Harvard University, explores, studies, and analyzes the bibleto discover who wrote it. Having earned a master degree in theology, B.A degree in Philosophy, and master degree in Hebrew literature, Friedman proves to be a knowledgeable expert in his field of studies. From the years of work he invested into, Friedman aims to provide convincing evidence that the book is written by four persons through historical, archaeological, logical proof. Friedman s structure to prove that source J and E were written by different authors was jointed together because they complimented each other in their differences. Friedman believes that source J was written by a man in the southern kingdom of Judahbetween the time of 848 B.C and 722 B.C while the author of source E was written in the northern kingdom of Israelbetween 922 B.C. and 722 B.C. If God was beyond Good and Evil, how would he decide which actions are good and bad. As he was neither Good nor Evil, he could judge any action was moral or immoral. For instance, he could say forgiveness is Good. At the same time, he could also declare Killing is good, for goodness and badness did not simply exist in him. If God was this way, no one would choose to follow him. In contrast, a Good God creates a Moral Law, which commands people to forgive and not to kill. Universally, everyone knows that killing is bad, and forgiveness is good, but why it is so? Killing is bad because such action goes against the direction of the Moral Law. Conversely, Forgiveness is good because it abides by the Moral Law. A Good God makes the Moral Law, and solely the Good God leads men to a better world. The ultimate protector that should want to do any and everything possible to ensure that her baby has the best opportunity for life. There will be those that will support the mother whatever path she takes, and surely those that will think of the mother as ethically unsound. However, Shiffrin believes that those who acted negligently or worse toward the foreseeable burdens their children would incur should be liable (Shiffrin,135). Seamus Heaney s Blackberry-Picking We all have childhood memories that we can reflect on and feel a sense of happiness, but some memories we can look back in disgust at the competency we had as children through silly accomplishments that we had been praised for. In Blackberry Picking, by Seamus Heaney uses symbolism and diction to suggest power and repugnance as the poem s tone as a means to emphasize the narrator s success that he felt while picking blackberries, as well as compare the gruesomeness of Bluebeard to the senses brought forth by the harvesting of the first blackberry. The author writes about the narrator eating the blackberries using gruesome words such as, clot, flesh, and blood, to give the reader a negative connotation towards the taste and texture of the berries. Heaney compares the hands of the children to Bluebeard, a fairy tale character who killed all of his wives; he uses references to gore to exemplify the comparison between Bluebeard and the berries that stain the narrator s hands. Collaboration in My Home Group My Contribution Paper Collaboration consists of a few fundamental components such as the willingness to listen and learn from each other, sharing one s own ideas and perspectives, having respect for each other, working together to achieve a common goal, and being responsible for the self and the whole group. A group has to collaborate in order to deliberate and achieve their common goal because the three phases of deliberation: information gathering, decision making, and reflection, all refer back to the ability to collaborate with each other. While working in a group, group members should always work toward the goal of becoming a good leader, a person who makes the groups she or he works in better (Practice Deliberation as Citizenship, Gene Edgar) by being a responsible and respectful group member, and also being someone who is willing to go the extra miles to make sure everyone in the group is feeling comfortable presenting their ideas in the group. These characteristics of Canada made European people permanently settle and colonize the lands. As they became settled the Europeans began to exploit Canada for its vast abundance of resources that they could trade. They would trade products such as alcohol and weapons to the Aboriginals in exchange for their furs. That was the beginning of the Fur Trade that became one of Canada s biggest industries to export all over. This settlement as well as the Europeans who settled in the Atlantic region of Canada began to approach the fishing industry. Both fishing and the fur trade became the foremost products of Canada well into the 19th century. One main aspect that allowed these products and industries to flourish was the waterways that both products depended on to be exported and traded. The two together both made Prince Hal the man he was. Hotspur had the two conniving father figures; Thomas and Henry Percy. Their overall plan was just to make Hotspur s life and living hell. • 51. Similarities Between Lady Of The Dog And The Lady With The... Certain people are unfaithful and feel there is nothing wrong with cheating on your significant other. One example of two unfaithful people is in the short story The Lady with the Pet Dog by Anton Chekhov. In this story Anna Sergeyevna and Dmitri Gurov have an affair together. Another similar example is in The Lady with the Pet Dog by Joyce Carol Oates. In her story Anna meets a man on the beach and they have an affair together. Both stories contain affairs and how each person deals with the situation. The two stories have different relationships between the husbands and wives, they both have the theme of fate, and different female character traits. Anton Chekhovs story is better than Joyce Carol Oates . Anton Chekhov s version of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Anna uses him to get away from her past and have a better future. Chekhov s story is better because the affair between Anna and Dmitri is more justified than the affair in Oates story. Both stories have the theme of fate in them, and the characters use fate as a reason for their affairs. In Chekhov s story Anna says, It s a good thing I am leaving, she said to Gurov. It s the hand of Fate (218 Chekhov). Anna and Dmitri use fate as an excuse for their affair. They claim it is fate that brought them together and now it is fate that will draw them apart. Then later on, the two believe, ...it seemed to them that Fate itself had meant them for one another... (224 Chekhov). Both Anna and Dmitri believe fate is the cause of their relationship. The two believe they are forced to be apart because of their arranged marriages, but fate has brought them back together. Dmitri and Anna believe their relationship is in the hands of fate. Then in Oates story, Anna uses Fate to justify why she shouldn t have an affair. She thinks, This is fate, she thought, to be here and not there, to be one person and not another, a certain man s wife and not the wife of another man (230 Oates). Anna feels guilty about having the affair, and believes fate is the reason she must remain with her husband . She is convinced if fate had wanted her to be with another man other than her husband, she would be with the other man. In the end, she changes her mind and says, This man, whom ... • 52. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Heat Pump The above diagrams illustrates how easy it is to utilise the key components but to reverse the process i.e. to pump heat out rather than in, thus becoming an air conditioning unit (more correctly called a cooling unit). All the main components remain same with just the flow reversed (via the 4 way reversing valves) and some additional minor components (e.g. check valves and specific expansion valve). Simultaneous heating and cooling The Heat Pump can be designed and configured as a multi mode machine. To generate only hot water from ambient air To simultaneously generate hot water and cooling energy. To generate only cooling for comfort Hotels and hospitals continuously need air conditioning, and therefore on a multimode ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Water to Water (W W). Water to Air (W A). Water Source (iii. iv.) can be further subdivided: a.Closed Loop: this is the most common form of Ground source system when buried. b.Open Loop: much less common than closed loop ground source (e.g. ground Aquifer; open lake, river or sea). This sort of unit designation would lead to better description and slightly less confusion. It also highlights that the key difference between water source heat pumps which work on closed and open loops in the ground is the temperature they work at rather than the medium itself (which is the same water). 3Based on Motive / generating power input. Heat pumps are also sometimes designated by the fuel source used to drive the process which is most usually electricity ( 95%), less commonly natural gas and much less commonly LPG. 4.Based on Operating Temperature For heat pumps generating hot water in their condensers (i.e. Air or Water to Water units) another sub description is the flow temperature capability. BS EN 14511 2011high temperature heat pumps they are often referred to Very High Temperature i.e. 65В°C. For heat pumps producing warm air the temperature should not drop below 38В°C to prevent risk of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Heroine Epidemic Research Paper The York community has been very effective in dealing with the heroine epidemic. Some efforts that have been most effective in dealing with it are NARCAN, the Good Samaritan Law, and the rehab program that the York and Adams county drug councilor talked about on Thursday. NARCAN has been very effected because, like I said before, it s a medication that can save someone life after an overdose. It doesn t always work right away so if it doesn t it can be injected again. It works 80 90 percent of the time. It can be injected into someone. It also could be a nasal spray up their nose. Saving lives definitely effects the heroine epidemic. 15 people in York were saved last year. Not only is NARCAN very effective, but so is the Good Samaritan Law.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Good Samaritan Law says that if someone has overdosed and whoever is with them calls 911 to get them help, the person that called will not be in trouble for having drugs. This is so effective because it has raised the probability of someone calling 911 if their friend has overdosed. Before this a lot of people would just leave the scene and let someone die just so that they don t get in trouble. This is a really great law to have in my opinion. Other than this law effecting the heroine epidemic, the rehab that the York and Adams County drugcounselors talked about is also very effective. On Thursday when they came in, the last presenter talked about a certain rehab for people who are addicted to heroine. It seemed like a really good place to go to help addictions. When he talked about the specific rehab and the people in it he seemed like a really good, caring person. I think people like that really help with this. I thought that his rehab facility is very effective in York because of caring people like ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
