Hello! How are you today? Are you set for another lesson? I hope
that you will learn a lot from today’s activities.
This module deals on predicting outcomes. You will learn today
how to make guesses based on the data given.
Directions: Give the possible outcome of the following situations. Copy
the letter of the correct answers.
1. Mang Loreto got up very early in the morning he got the
jeepney’s key and hurriedly went to the garage.
a. He had to drive the jeepney to earn money for the family.
b. He had to catch the early flight at the airport.

Lourdes opened her piggy bank. She counted her money
carefully and went straight to a downtown store. She looked
with longing at the bright new sweater on display at the store
window. She wanted to inquire about the price but as she was
about to go in, she stopped and hesitated. She counted her
money again, then shook her head. At last, she looked at the
sweater with regret and returned the money in her pocket.

The story of Lourdes presents a series of events. These events are
clue to the guesses that you can have. Read the short paragraph below
and answer the questions that follow.

sensitive with the clues because they will help you make right
conclusions and outcomes.
- Your guesses are based on facts or events that are presented in the
paragraph.
- The guesses are called outcomes. Sometimes they are also called
inferences and consequences.
Lino’s Reward
One day, Lino was passing by a clump of bamboo
trees on his way home from school when he heard the
meowing of a cat. He was about to pass by but the
meowing continued as if in pain. He put his bag down
and went to the bamboo clump. He found a cat whose
paw was caught on a bamboo stump. He freed the cat,
but still it lay moaning painfully. Lino tried to soothe the
cat’s injured foot when all of a sudden Lino jumped and
cried with pain.

Supermart advertised for a boy with a bicycle to help
deliver orders for a few hours each morning. Three
boys presented themselves to the manager. Nilo was
neatly dressed and well-groomed. Jun came with a
bright colored shirt. Arturo wore tight red jeans
which matched his long hair and mustache. When
they entered the manager’s office, Nilo greeted the
manager with a courteous “Good Morning,” while Jun
sat astride on a chair. Arturo stood by the table
smoothing his long hair. The manager looked closely
at the boys. Who do you think was hired?

Saving our wild plants is a great concern of the government. Some
of our wild orchids and ornamental plants are rare and command a
high price. If they are properly conserved and cultivated they will add
to our country’s wealth. Wild orchids, roses and lilies are a joy.
They make our homes beautiful and help cheer us up. They make
beautiful decoration. Plants take in carbon dioxide and give off oxygen
which men and animals use in order to live. Birds keep down the
number of insects and rats that destroy farmer’s crops.

Mang Toribio was very poor and had many children. One night he
told his wife that his friend Katindig had asked him if he wanted to join
him in putting up a little slipper store. His wife encouraged him to do
so. With a little capital Mang Toribio and Katindig put up a slipper
store. At first they made a few pairs of slippers. Then more orders
came in. The two friends were very happy when the slippers sold fast.
Time came when they included shoes in their store. The store
prospered until the owners became millionaires. Mang Toribio became
known as Don Toribio of “Ang Tibay.”
4. Why do you think did the shoes sell fast?

Predicting an outcome is making a guess or giving a final
decision, based on the summing up of the main points or
clues.

Directions: Read the story and answer the following questions.
Father woke up Miguel early so he could go to the rice field with
him.
“Why are we early, Father?” asked Miguel.
“We will select and pick rice seeds for our planting next year,”
answered Father.
Miguel was happy he could help his Father select the seeds. When
they reached the rice fields, Miguel asked, “How do we select the
seeds, Father?
“Pick only the biggest and fullest heads from the tallest and
strongest plants. They will give the fullest and biggest grains. Big and
full seeds will give us plants that will bear big and full grains,”
explained Father. “You see, that’s why we had a good harvest last
year.”

Not so long ago, a group of grade six boys and girls kept a
careful record of all cuts, bumps, falls and other accidents that
happened to them for a period of three months. A study of their
accident record showed that many of the accidents took place in
school. Some of these accidents occurred in the classrooms and in the
halls of school buildings. But more injuries took place in school shops
and on playgrounds.

tiny fish.”
“No. I will set it free,” Mike said. “We don’t catch little fish.
Some people catch fish that are still very small.
Just then they saw a fisherman pull up his net. It was full of
fish. Yet they were all still very small. So Mike and Johnny
approached him.

  • 2. 10 Hello! How are you today? Are you set for another lesson? I hope that you will learn a lot from today’s activities. This module deals on predicting outcomes. You will learn today how to make guesses based on the data given. Directions: Give the possible outcome of the following situations. Copy the letter of the correct answers. 1. Mang Loreto got up very early in the morning he got the jeepney’s key and hurriedly went to the garage. a. He had to drive the jeepney to earn money for the family. b. To the Learner Let’s Try This Let’s Learn This Lourdes opened her piggy bank. She counted her money carefully and went straight to a downtown store. She looked with longing at the bright new sweater on display at the store window. She wanted to inquire about the price but as she was about to go in, she stopped and hesitated. She counted her money again, then shook her head. At last, she looked at the sweater with regret and returned the money in her pocket.

The last sentence “Lino tried to soothe the cat’s injured foot when Lino jumped and cried with pain. - The sentence above gives you the clue or signal that Lino’s hands were scratched. - Out of the clue or signal you can arrive at a certain answer. Be sensitive with the clues because they will help you make right conclusions and outcomes. - Your guesses are based on facts or events that are presented in the paragraph. - The guesses are called outcomes. Sometimes they are also called inferences and consequences. Lino’s Reward One day, Lino was passing by a clump of bamboo trees on his way home from school when he heard the meowing of a cat. He was about to pass by but the meowing continued as if in pain. He put his bag down and went to the bamboo clump. He found a cat whose paw was caught on a bamboo stump. He freed the cat, but still it lay moaning painfully. Lino tried to soothe the cat’s injured foot when all of a sudden Lino jumped and cried with pain.

The two friends were very happy when the slippers sold fast. Time came when they included shoes in their store. The store prospered until the owners became millionaires. Mang Toribio became known as Don Toribio of “Ang Tibay.” 4. Why do you think did the shoes sell fast? a. There were no other kinds of shoes. b. They were strong. c. They were found everywhere. 5. They will give the fullest and biggest grains.
