This document provides an overview of end-user computing (EUC). It defines EUC as computing done by users who are not professional programmers. EUC allows users to develop their own applications and programs through tools like spreadsheets, databases and visual programming. While EUC increases productivity and customization, it also poses risks if users make errors in analysis or lack proper documentation. The document examines different types of end users and applications suitable for EUC. It also discusses models of end-user systems and tools for supporting EUC, such as information centers that provide training and help to non-technical end users.

Requirements analysis, also called requirements engineering, is the process of determining user expectations for a new or modified product. These features, called requirements, must be quantifiable, relevant and detailed. In software engineering, such requirements are often called functional specifications. Requirements analysis is an important aspect of project management.

End-User Computing (EUC) is the realm of spreadsheets, word processing, presentations, email, stand-alone users, individual devices, and file sharing applications like Dropbox. It is fair to say that EUC is not a traditional focus of Data Governance in many organizations, although individual aspects of EUC may be dealt with. However, EUC is so large in most organizations that Data Governance must start to ensure that data management is done appropriately in it. Additionally, regulators are becoming increasingly interested in ECU, which is an additional impetus to address it. This webinar focuses on the major challenges that exist in EUC and how Data Governance can address them. Fundamental questions, such a simply understanding what is a “production” EUC application are discussed. The data life cycle in the context of EUC, particularly data capture and interaction with corporate systems is examined, as is the need for quality of all kinds in EUC, including data quality.
Attendees will learn:
•What End User Computing (EUC) is and why Data Governance urgently needs to address it
•Why EUC environments often cannot be replaced by corporate systems from IT
•Problems that can arise from ungoverned EUC environments
•Basic strategies for governing EUC environments
•Tools and techniques for EUC governance
System Integration is crucial for nowadays business management in evolving markets. Large companies with production chains need to make workflow as simple and as intuitive as possible. Every question has to have an easy answer.

in the design, development, and use of information
systems;
• understand the different career paths available to
those who work with information systems;
• explain the importance of where the information-

key role they can play in the success of a business. This chapter
discusses people, the last component of an information system.
People are involved in information systems in just about every
way. People imagine information systems, people develop
information systems, people support information systems, and,
perhaps most importantly, people use information systems.
The Creators of Information Systems
The first group of people to be considered play a role in designing,
developing, and building information systems. These people are
generally technical and have a background in programming,
analysis, information security, or database design. Just about
everyone who works in the creation of information systems has a
minimum of a bachelor’s degree in computer science or information
systems, though that is not necessarily a requirement. The process
of creating information systems will be covered in more detail in
Chapter 10.

Systems Analyst
The systems analyst straddles the divide between identifying
business needs and imagining a new or redesigned system to fulfill
those needs. This individual works with a team or department
seeking to identify business requirements and analyze the specific
details of an existing system or a system that needs to be built.
Generally, the analyst is required to have a good understanding
of the business itself, the purpose of the business, the business
processes involved, and the ability to document them well. The
analyst identifies the different stakeholders in the system and works
to involve the appropriate individuals in the analysis process.
Prior to analyzing the problem or the system of concern, the
analyst needs to a) clearly identify the problem, b) gain approval for
the project, c) identify the stakeholders, and d) develop a plan to
monitor the project. The analysis phase of the project can be broken
down into five steps.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Here is something new! In our next Connector Corner webinar, we will demonstrate how you can use a single workflow to:
Create a campaign using Mailchimp with merge tags/fields
Send an interactive Slack channel message (using buttons)
Have the message received by managers and peers along with a test email for review
But there’s more:
In a second workflow supporting the same use case, you’ll see:
Your campaign sent to target colleagues for approval
If the “Approve” button is clicked, a Jira/Zendesk ticket is created for the marketing design team
But—if the “Reject” button is pushed, colleagues will be alerted via Slack message
Join us to learn more about this new, human-in-the-loop capability, brought to you by Integration Service connectors.

Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.
