This document defines and provides examples of the different types of electromagnetic waves: radio waves have the longest wavelengths, microwaves have shorter wavelengths than radio waves, infrared waves are shorter than radio waves but not visible to the human eye, visible light is the range of wavelengths visible to humans, ultraviolet rays have shorter wavelengths than visible light, x-rays have shorter wavelengths than ultraviolet rays, and gamma rays have the shortest wavelengths. Examples of uses for each type are also included, such as using radio waves for walkie talkies, microwaves for heating food, infrared for night vision, visible light forming rainbows, ultraviolet causing sunburn, x-rays being used in medical imaging, and gamma rays being emitted from
