This document provides an introduction to semiconductors. It discusses that [1] semiconductors are materials with conductivity that can be controlled through doping or temperature changes. [2] Conductivity can be increased by doping to create either p-type or n-type semiconductors. [3] Semiconductors have moderate electron binding energies, so at room temperature a moderate number of electrons can become free to conduct electricity, unlike insulators and conductors.
