Compare and contrast the developmental life span theories
Urie Bronfenbrenner perspective on lifespan development was the bio ecological approach which
suggest that five levels if the environment simultaneously influence indviduals. He tagged different
aspects or levels of environment that influences a child s development. Urie Bronfenbrenner five
major systems are called microsystem; which is everyday immediate environment in which children
lead their daily lives. Second is the mesosystem; which provides connections between the various
aspects of the microsystem. Third is the exosystem; It represents broader influences, encompassing

Why I Want To Pursue A Master Of Science Degree
Education is not preparation for life; Education is life for itself.
These are the words of John Dewey, which have led an everlasting impression on my mind. It
relates to the idea of lifelong learning, and the knowledge that education is much more than what
lies within the curriculum. Whenever I pause by to reflect on my ken of knowledge, I feel that how
little I have learnt and that an enormous, unknown and fascinating wealth of knowledge lies before
me, yet to be explored. Education is like an edifice based on strong rudiments and strengthened by
the fundamentals and practical skills acquired during one s lifetime. So my main goal is to design
the next generation innovations in field rather than being just a user of existing technologies and
findings. So I intend to pursue Master of Science degree in Automotive software Engineering at
your university as the first step towards obtaining a PHD.
Nothing is Impossible in Life has always been a motivating force behind all my achievements. I
strongly believe that enjoy what we do and having the passion to pursue, we can ultimately achieve
our destination, no matter how much efforts are needed. My inherent urge and interest to pursue
engineering emanates from an instinctive inclination for Physics and Mathematics since my
schooling. From early childhood, I was very captivated with electronic appliances around me. I
would ask my parents about their principle of working. I always tried to find out what basic
elements and

The Business Environment Of Nigeria And Norway Essay
Question 1The concept of Business EnvironmentBusiness environment can be understood as the
combination of all environmental conditions and influences that are capable of affecting or
influencing business activities. According to Anyanwu et al (1996) defines the environment of
business as the aggregation of the pattern of all the external and internal conditions and influences
that affect the existence, growth and development of the business. Opportunities and threats may be
associated with external environment while the strengths and weakness may be associated with
internal environment of the business (Audu, 2010a).In this paper, we will compare the business
environment of two countries namely: Nigeria and Norway. The reason for choosing these two
countries include the fact that both are part of the top ten net oil exporting nations for which
hydrocarbon exports account for more than 40% of total exports. We will compare and contrast the
fiscal policy of both countries and the business environment.Overview of Nigeria and NorwayLet

The Importance Of Reducing The Intensity Of A Sonic Boom
Shawn Merrick Miller Ryan Cilsick Science Research 12/20/16
The importance of reducing the intensity of a sonic boom is essential to making supersonic flight
a possibility for passenger aircraft over land. Currently, supersonic flight over land in the US is
prohibited by the FAA due to the annoyance associated with the sonicboom to people (observers) on
the ground. The advancement of sonic boom reduction could lead to the advancement in the way
we travel around the world with amazing speeds. Speeds up to mach 3.3 at 88,000ft (That s
nearly 17 miles!) can be achieved in an SR 71 Blackbird, that keep in mind, it was made and
introduced in 1966. 50 years later, we have the ability to transport people vast distances and at
high speeds safely, but we don t. Why not? Getting up to speed is not the issue in this
circumstance, the issue is doing it quietly. It can be said that this problem can be eliminated by
making a suborbital transport aircraft, which could be very beneficial, but will still create a sonic
boom, and will still, annoy people. At a higher price. Supersonic flight was pioneered by the air
force in 1947, when Chuck Yeager became the first man to break the sound barrier. Shortly after,
supersonic aircraft research was started.
Supersonic cruising aircraft did not begin until the mid 1950 s. Research on such aircraft had its
origins in the United States in the work which was begun in 1954 or 1955 in support of the Air
Force XB 70

Reactive Memory
Recent studies indicated that memory T lymphocytes contain distinct populations of central
memory (TCM) and effector memory (TEM) cells characterized by distinct homing capacity and
effector function. Protective memory is mediated by TEMs that migrate to inflamed peripheral
tissues and display immediate effector function, whereas reactive memory is mediated by TCMs
that home to T cell areas of secondary lymphoid organs, have little or no effector function, but
readily proliferate and differentiate to effector cells in response to antigenic stimulation
(Lanzavecchia and Sallusto, 2000). T central memory cells Human TCMs are CD45RO+ memory
cells that constitutively express CCR7 and CD62L , two receptors that are also characteristic of
naГЇve T cells, which are required for cell extravasation through high endothelial venules (HEV)
and migration to T cell areas of secondary lymphoid organs (Campbell et al., 1998). When
compared with naГЇve T cells, TCMs have higher sensitivity to antigenic stimulation thus
providing more effective stimulatory feedback to dendritic cells (DCs) and B cells (Forster et al.,
1999). Following TCR triggering, TCMs produce mainly IL 2, but after proliferation they
differentiate to effector cells and produce large amounts of IL 4 of IFN Оі (Lanzavecchia and

Biomedical Studies Personal Statement
When I first entered college, I had thought that I wanted to major in Biomedical Sciences. The
reason being, I was diagnosed at the age of 7 with Type 1 Diabetes. I was tossing around the
thought that I was interested, possibly, in having a career that involved my disease in it. From
being a part of this compass program, I have learned about many careers. Even though I learned
more of what I do not want to do, it has helped me narrow down to majors that I am more
interested in. I was thinking of still having the possibility of entering the medical field, but I am
unsure. Learningabout the different careers in the medical field and visiting labs has shown me
that it isn t something that I am interested as much as when I first enter college. While I do want
to be involved with my disease, I m not sure if I want to have a career with it, but it could still be
a possibility. After having been in my first college year for a couple of months, I still had no
idea what I was leaning towards for a major. Within these first couple of months I had learned
that Biomedical Studies was not something that I was sure of, along with many other careers and
majors that I learned about in the Compass class that were not for me. Tired of not knowing what
I wanted to do, I sat myself down and did some researched. I came upon... Show more content on

The Perfect Escape
Ever since the creation of Alcatraz, it was made apparent that it would be the best prison ever
constructed due to its location and the way it was built. Many people attempted to escape the so
called inescapable prison, but only few people s efforts came to fruition. John and Clarence
Anglin, Frank Morris, and Allen West carefully planned and executed the perfect escape. To this
day, this escape is considered a mystery. The origin of Alcatraz dates back to 1775 when an
explorer named Juan Manuel de Ayala discovered the island and named it Alcatraces. The name
was later shortened to Alcatraz. This island is located off the San Francisco Bay, and during the
California Gold Rush the government set aside the island for a possible military... Show more

This attempt occurred during a bad storm and the Bay s currents were especially fast and strong
most people believe Roe and Cole were swept out to sea. Officially, they are listed missing and
presumed dead (Alcatraz Escape Attempts).
Needless to say, escape from this island was near impossible. Although escape seemed impossible,
many people still attempted it. John Anglin, Clarence Anglin, Frank Morris, and Allen West are the
four people behind the famous escape of Alcatraz. Frank Lee Morris is often thought of as the
mastermind behind the escape. Frank Morris was registered as prisoner #AZ1441. Morris was
taken to Alcatraz in January of 1960. He was very well acquainted with prisons. As a young
child, he was an orphan and was passed around to different households. His criminal record
began at the young age of thirteen. He was in and out of prison from charges of theft to breaking
and entering. Often times he would be back in jail less than a year after getting out. Before
going to Alcatraz he had already successfully escaped many prisons. Upon arrival, Morris began
plotting how to escape. Morris was said to, have an I.Q. of 133, borderline genius, and was the
mastermind of the escape plot (Frank Morris: Only Alcatraz Escapee was from D.C.). John
Anglin s number was #AZ1476, Clarence Anglin s number was #AZ1485, and Allen West s was
#AZ1335 (Frank Morris: Only Alcatraz Escapee was from D.C.). John and Clarence Anglin were
very close growing up. They were

When You Are Old By William Butler Yeats
When You Are Old is a poem that was written by William Butler Yeats in 1891. It is a poem
about a person who wants to be remembered by those he loves. It is a story about dreams
forgotten and memories long gone. Yeats captured a feeling of longing in this poem that some
people may never understand unless they have a relationship that is more to them than any other
relationship they will ever have. When You Are Old talks about a woman who was loved by a man
until he died. It is a story of how a life should be remembered by a person who loved another. When
You Are Old is about the loveof a man for a woman whom he had on a pedestal. He felt this
woman was loved by many with a true and deep love and loved by others with a false love. He
felt this woman was loved much like people today love celebrities. Yeats wrote about this woman
as though he knew her intimately. He asks her to slowly read, and dream of the soft look, Your
eyes had once and of their shadows deep (Yeats). He wants her to remember how things were in
her youth. He wants her to remember her dreams and think of how things were and how they
may have been. Yeats is asking her to take her time and day dream about her glory days. In the first
lines of the poem Yeats describes this woman as old and grey and full of sleep (Yeats). The speaker
of the poem addresses his beloved saying that when she is aged she should read a particular book
which will remind her of her youth. She will remember the

My Statement of Purpose for Undergraduate Education at the...
One of the great mysteries of life is what the future holds. Knowledge of the present and past is
clear but no one, no matter how intelligent or wise, is capable of predicting what the future might
bring. Many try and, in some marginal way, are correct in their predictions but for most the
future is the great unknown. With the future unknown the best that one can do is prepare for as
many eventualities as possible. As unpredictable as life is the one certainty is that the need for a
quality education is an essential part of it. Toward this end, I certainly anticipate within the next
ten years to have completed my formal education and to have established roots in my business
career. As I intend to pursue a masters degree in business, I will have only been in the working
environment for, at most, four years but should have been able to formulate many of the
contacts necessary for me to succeed. Networking is an essential element of any good business
career and I am determined to make myself as accessible to as many interesting and
accomplished individuals as I can. Success breeds success and it is my sincerest hope that I will
be able to surround myself with such individuals as I pursue my career. The future is uncertain but
I am confident that by providing myself with a quality education, procuring a good job, and
making myself available to establish good contacts I can handle any eventualities in a proper and
prepared manner. Preparedness is the key and by beginning my

Ted Cruz game plan is to win over young voters, and part of that strategy, he said, is to use his
sense of humor. This game plan is certainly feasible as 2 out of the last 3 president have been in
the top 5 youngest presidents throughout our entire presidential history. Old and reliable, may not
be the same mindset as voters had decades ago. The young middle age group is the working class,

Media And Crime Analysis
Media plays a crucial role in bringing the depiction to the public about the knowledge about
crimes. The public s opinion is greatly influenced by the way the media presents the crimes
committed as well as the awareness of the police. This means, therefore, if the media is accountable
for the reports presented on televisions, and social media platforms, the conclusions were drawn by
the public about crimeincidences depends on the information presented by the media (Barak, 2013).
Print media industry extensively produces copies that cover crime stories to boost their industry by

public with stories that are not always true. For instance, watching... Show more content on

Vo2 Max Analysis
An athlete with a VO2 max of 65 ml/kg/min will be able to perform at a high level for a longer
duration than an athlete with a VO2 max of 40 mL/kg/min. However, this relates to aerobic work.
Someone with a high VO2 max will not necessarily be able to perform at a higher capacity during
resistance exercise or short duration high intensity work, such as sprints.A complete VO2 Fitness
test can give trainers and clients the tools to set realistic goals and assess improvements. Many
people are inefficient exercisers, with no understanding of what specific heartrate, intensity or
duration would best help them reach their specific goals such as fat burning, endurance training, or
cardio conditioning. An initial VO2 Maxtest can clarify the specific... Show more content on

But not all studies take into account changes in lifestyle, motivation levels, injury and many
other factors. A study done on masters runners between the ages of 50 and 82 years of age, who
continued to compete on a regular basis over a 10 year period of time, showed less decline in
VO2 max compared to their non competitive counterparts. Studies also show that a slight decline
in VO2 max may be countered by the ability to deal with greater amounts of lactic acid, an
advantage found to exist in older runners2. This could possibly explain why many endurance
athletes in their late 40s and 50s are still competitive with athletes in their 20s and 30s.You can
expect to see fast finish times from top pros in their 20s and 30s in the results of any endurance
event, but now it s also common to see athletes in their 40s and 50s almost as fast, if not at times
faster. For example: the 40 44 year old male category winner in the 2012 Boston Marathon
finished in 2:23:08, just 10:28 behind the overall winner, making him 15th overall. In Ironman
events, the top 40 50 year old finishers consistently place in the top 20 50 overall, out of
thousands of participants. Even the winner of the 50 54 year old category of the 2011 Ironman
Lake Placid placed 47th overall, demonstrating that even as you age your VO2 max may decrease
but not as fast.

Summary Of Success Is Counted Sweetest By Emily Dickinson
The poem, Success is counted sweetest, by Emily Dickinson, portrays success as something that
only those who have never obtained it can truly comprehend its value. The writer makes this
apparent in the poem by defining success, victory on a battlefield and a dying soldier s view of
success. Dickinson writes a poem that relays the emotions of those who understand defeat. In the
opening lines of the poem Dickinson defines success as something pleasant that is treasured most
by those who have not experienced it by stating, Success is counted sweetest / By those who ne er
succeed (Dickinson 93). Dickinson goes on to say that success can only be understood by those
who truly need or desire something. This is supported by Dickinson s explanation that for a person

Evidence to support this begins in the lines, Not one of all the purple Host / Who took the Flag
today (Dickinson 93). Lara Langer Cohen, an author and Assistant Professor in the Department
of English Literature at Swarthmore College revealed that the words used in these lines have a
significant meaning. She explained that the word purple is a color associated with royalty while
the word Hosts often refers to an army or even Christ which implies that these are successful
soldiers (Cohen 42). The fact that the army took the flag clearly symbolizes triumph and
indicates that the army was victorious in this battle. However, by referring to this army as Hosts
Dickinson is also indicating that they were privileged and had an unfair advantage. As a result, the
writer declares, Not one... / Can tell the definition / So clear of Victory (Dickinson 93) to illustrate
that the victors are unable to comprehend the definition or the value of success once their goal was

Sex Drugs And Roll Essay
Sex, drugs and rock and roll. These were the values of the young generation of the mid 1960 s.
This generation was pushing the limits of sexual, social, and political inhibitions and behind the
force of their hippie love was the engine of psychedelic rock and roll music. This genre of rock
music is inspired by the counterculture scene of the 1950 s and 60 s and attempts to capture the
mind altering feelings and emotions attached to psychedelic drugs. The first group to advertise
themselves as psychedelic rockwas the 13th Floor Elevators from Texas, at the end of 1965.
However, the partnership of drugs and music goes back much further than that. The Beat
Generation writers in the second half of the 1950 s, such as William Burroughs, Jack Kerouac and
Allen Ginsberg, used and wrote about drugs like cannabis and Benzidrine, which popularized and
raised more awareness of drug use. The culture of drug use had long pervaded jazz... Show more

California also contributed to the progression of psychedelic music, such as New York City,

On September 15th 2008, Lehman Brothers, one of the United States largest investment banks,
declared bankruptcy. This event occurred during the Great Recession, a time period where
economic activities in the United States had significantly declined in the early 21st century. The
Great Recession occurred for numerous reasons; however the primary reasons are due to the
housing bubble as well as the subprime mortgage backed securities. What made matters worse
during the recession was the day September 29, 2008 when congress could not come in agreement
to pass a bailout plan that would have otherwise saved Lehman Brothers. The period of its collapse
is an interesting part of United States finance industry s history; this is primarily due to the
frequency that which this sort of event can occur actually occur in real world economics. The
United States housing bubble is an example that is applicable to the black swan theory. This
theory is summarized as, An event or occurrence that deviates beyond what is normally expected
of a situation and that would be extremely difficult to predict. ( Black Swan Theory ). The severity
of the housing bubble effect had rendered the Fed s primary tool of open market operations to be
ineffective. The Fed had to rely on other measures that are infrequently used; in this case was
quantitative easing. Quantitative easing is the injection of reserves into circulation to promote
economic activity as well as decrease the unemployment rate. This

Sociology Of South African Sociology
South African sociology (Webster, 2004, p. 28) can be considered as the result of the combination
of different types of sociology due to the various changes that taken place in South African society
throughout its history (Webster, 2004, p. 28). Marxism (Macionis Plummer, 2012, p. 117), which is
one of the main contributors to this sociology, was coined by Karl Marx, a German sociologist who
by observing the various relations within a society came up with his own beliefs on how society
has changed and how it can be improved which have been widely used across the world
(Macionis Plummer, 2012, p. 117). He believed that in the past, people lived in collective groups
and were not divided by economic status but shared what they had and focused more on
working together than working for each other and this was referred to as communism (Macionis
Plummer, 2012, p. 119). However, Marx suggested that as time progressed people began to fight
for land and possessions and this led to weaker groups being kept as slaves (Macionis Plummer,
2012, p. 18) and were used for the benefit of their capturers and this ultimately created a
distinction between those who had power and those who did not (Macionis Plummer, 2012, p.
119). Marx also suggested that from this came what is known as capitalism (Macionis Plummer,
2012, p. 117), which was the result of technological advancements such as the use of machines to
produce goods in factories (Macionis Plummer, 2012, p. 117)

Time To Rebuild; The Department of Defense Must be...
The Department of Defense takes up the majority of the US budget; it not only pulls in over a
trillion dollars of taxpayer money yearly, but it also is unable to accurately account for the exact
whereabouts of those funds year after year. The DoD does, of course, offer its own budget,
however, due to the byzantine and ineffective nature of the Federal Bureaucracy, it is impossible
to verify if the money is even so much as used for its intended purpose. Looking at this budget,
two sections stand out as bloated, which is a statement in a budget that is packed with Pork
barrel spending: Procurement, and Maintenance. Ultimately, should these two areas of the
budget be reasonably downsized, and the others thoroughly audited, the DoD s operating
expenses could be reduced drastically, much to the taxpayer s benefit. Procurement is, by far,
the easiest section of the budget to pare down; a few simple reforms in regards to the process by
which government contracts are granted, coupled with the elimination of several pork barrel
programs, could save federal government millions of dollars. In regards to contracts, all deals
should be strictly held to the original price and time frame; While that might seem like an
obvious step, it is in fact a great leap forward for the DoD, where most programs go over budget.
A Poignant example of this is the F 35 fighter jet, which has cost taxpayers 100 billion more than
expected, and is 7 years behind on production. Further more, if regulations

Reasonable Occupation Review Paper
Effects of the Realistic Job Previews on Employees Job Satisfaction
Abstract
Reasonable occupation review (RJP) is the presentation of data both positive and negative given to
the forthcoming representative about the occupation and the association. The data gave is expected
to give the practical picture of the association. The part of the data stream is to touch base at a phase
where the desires of the representative and the candidate match. It is being contended that
representatives who are given RJP s amid the enlistment and determination process have higher
occupation fulfillment. Along these lines, the point of this study is to distinguish the connections
between practical work sneak peaks and worker work fulfillment in the associations. ... Show more

It is made helpful by utilizing both formal and casual techniques. Its convenience can be
surveyed if the association discovers workforce, which coordinates its necessities.Better
enlistment strategies give an upper hand to the association (Kecia, and Gail, 1999). One of the
striking elements of an enlistment procedure is the capacity to influence an applicant (Quinetta,
Collins and Oreg, 2005). It imparts looked for after and ugly parts of the employment to the
occupation candidate before he/she makes a choice to acknowledge the occupation offer
(Champnoise, 2004). Great RJPs give a complete depiction of the employment (O Nell et al.,
2001). It is meant to guarantee that gainful and able candidates must join the association with a
long haul responsibility to the association (Champnoise, 2004). It is normal that a great job
practical sneak peak can help in lessening the turnover and the employing cost (O Nell et al.,
2001). RJPs are proposed to give practical employment data. On the off chance that the data is
excessively negative, then it would withhold the possibility to join the association (Quinetta,
Collins, and Oreg, 2005). The data gave ought to be adjusted both positive and negative data, and
the excessively positive data is unsafe for an association (Morse, 2007). RJPs are given in different
configurations and through various strategies (Champnoise, 2004). In any case, it is too imperative

Uses And Purpose Of The Technology
1NAME AND PURPOSE OF THE TECHNOLOGY The MRI Magnetic Resonance Imaging is a
non invasive medical procedure that uses a powerful magnetic field and radio frequency pulses to
produce detailed images of soft tissue, organs, blood vessels, bone and nearly all other internal
body structures. These detailed images allow physicians to evaluate various parts of the body and
diagnose and treat various medical conditions. Unlike X rays and CT scans, MRI machines
produce 3D images of the body without the use of ionizing radiation. The traditional MRI machine
is a large cylindrical tube surrounded by a powerful magnet, with the patient situated on an
examination table that slides into the centre of the tube. Doctors often use the MRI to view... Show

Rather than using ionising radiation like the X ray or CT scan, the MRI uses a strong magnetic
field and radio waves to image both soft tissue and bone structures. The strong magnetic field is
created by passing an electric current through wire coils located in the machine and around the
body part being imaged. The body is made up of around 60% water, and water molecules contain
hydrogen protons which become aligned in a magnetic field. Hydrogen protons are also abundant
in fat, making them ideal for imaging purposes. The strong magnetic field from the MRI aligns
the proton spins The hydrogen proton can be likened to the planet earth, spinning on its axis, with
a north south pole. In this respect it behaves like a small bar magnet. Under normal circumstances,
these hydrogen proton bar magnets spin in the body with their axes randomly aligned. (Berger,
2002) Under the MRI s strong magnetic field, the protons axes align, creating a magnetic vector
oriented along the axis of the MRI machine. The machine also produces additional energy in the
form of radio waves that redirect the uniformed alignment of the hydrogen protons. The protons
absorb the energy from the radio frequency and flip their spins. When the radio frequency source is
turned off, the protons gradually return to alignment, and the magnetic vector returns to its resting
state. This causes a radio signal to be emitted that is measured by receivers in the machine and used

Four Noble Truths
Crying and laughing, people experience many different emotions during different stages of their
life. Sometimes they would find themselves dissatisfied almost every single moment when they
assume that the world is not fulfilling their desire, in other words, their expectations on how the
world supposes to be. Dan, an ordinary college student from the story Way of the Peaceful Warrior
written by Dan Millman, faces the same obstacle as many others do. Although he has lived a
pleased and content life, passion suddenly disappears from him. Such depression stops when he

comes from his own desire, the expectation of the weather to remain sunny just for him to be

rain instead of laughing over it. Socrates points out Dan s misunderstanding of the source of
anger and corrects him by clarifying, neither your disappointment nor your your anger was

instead, the rain is simply performing its natural job as part of the water cycle. The source of
Dan s anger is his own mood, his reaction to the rain, or in other words, his disappointment of not
having a nice dry weather. Socrates further extends Dan s understanding of himself by telling him
the cause of his greater anger after seeing Socrates and Joy remaining pleased during the rain.
Socrates explicates clearly that Dan s greater anger is caused by his expectation to other people,
The second lesson comes from observing how you became even more angry when you noticed that

Dan to realize that his suffering is caused his own disappointment of the world not fulfilling his

powerless to stop eating. They only stop once they are too full to eat anymore.
Bulimics show severe behavioral signs. They eat uncontrollably and have strict dieting plans for
themselves. They use the bathroom frequently after meals and do extreme exercises to keep
weight off even if the weather is bad or they are in pain. Bulimics have many methods to lose

obsessed with weighing, measuring, and looking at themselves in the mirror. Sometimes they
refuse to eat until they come up with a negotiation to eat if they are allowed to purge and continue
starving themselves. They hide food and argue over certain foods that they will or will not eat.
Bulimia happens for numerous reasons. It is normal for a person s body to get bigger when it is

Quest For An Earthly Paradise And The Anticipation Of A...
Lamentation and Hope in the Depiction of Paradise
The quest for an earthly paradise and the anticipation of a heavenly one is a drive that has
always prevailed in humankind s search for God and redemption from the original sin. The desire
for a terrestrial manifestation of paradise, a so called lost origin is predominantly reflected in
writers depictions of the fall of man. This can be seen in Milton s Paradise Lost and Lucy
Hutchinson s Order and Disorder. Both these epic poems at times magnify the sadness and gravity
of the loss of a paradisal home in which Adam and Eve as our fore parents dwelt under God s close
guidance and love. The fascination with Eden s bliss is manifested in Adam and Eve s
admiration, however it also extends to Satan s various instances of questioning his own actions
in the shadow of such beauty. Perhaps crucial to both interpretations of the fall of man is that the
knowledge gained from the forbidden fruit is the realization of loss, the sudden true
appreciation of the beauty of a paradise that is now lost. On the other hand the promise of
redemption is provided through God s mercy in Death, thus allowing for a hope and anticipation
of a heavenly paradise. This portrayal of a merciful God in Paradise Lost and Order and Disorder,
grows out of man s search for redemption and a desire to be united with God in a heavenly
paradise. Nostalgia and anticipation of paradise thus manifest through the lamentations of loss and
mercy in death

Helen Of Troy
Helen of Troy
In Greek mythology, Helen of Troy, also known as Helen of Sparta, was the daughter of Zeus and
Leda, and was a sister of Castor, Pollux, and Clytemnestra. In Greek myths, she was considered the
most beautiful woman in the world. By marriage she was Queen of Laconia, a province within
Homeric Greece, the wife of King Menelaus. Her abduction by Paris, Prince of Troy, brought about
the Trojan War. Elements of her putative biography come from classical authors such as
Aristophanes, Cicero, Euripides and Homer (both The Iliad and The Odyssey).
In her youth she was abducted by, or eloped with, Theseus, and in some accounts bore him a child.
A competition between her suitors for her hand in marriage sees Menelaus emerge victorious....

The first and last appearances are specified in the title of Roisman s article.
Helen has mixed feelings because she feels some complicity in her own abduction and realizes
how much death and suffering has been the result. That her Trojan husband is not terribly manly
compared with his brother or her first husband only increases her feelings of regret. However, it
is not clear that Helen had any choice. She is, after all, a possession; one of many Paris stole from
Argos, although the only one he is unwilling to return (7.362 64). Helen s fault lies in her beauty
rather than in her acts, according to the old men at the Scaean Gate (3.158).
Helen s First Appearance
Helen s first appearance is when the goddess Iris, disguised as a sister in law, comes to summon
Helen from her weaving.
Weaving is a typically wifely occupation, but the subject Helen is weaving is unusual, since she is
depicting the suffering of the Trojan War heroes. Roisman argues this shows Helen s willingness
to take responsibility for precipitating the deadly course of events. Iris, who summons Helen to
witness a duel between her two husbands to decide with whom she will live, inspires Helen with a
longing for her original husband, Menelaus. Helen does not appear to see behind the disguise to the
goddess and goes compliantly, without uttering a word.

Communist Manifesto By Marx Engels
After firstly briefly reading part of communist manifesto from The Marx Engels Reader, I have a
general understanding about The Communist Manifesto presents an analytical approach to the class
struggle (historical and present) and the problems of capitalism. I am more like concerning on
bourgeoisie and proletarians.
The reason I interested in this section because it introduces and explains the final conflict between
the bourgeoisie and the proletariat. Tucker (1978) states: The proletariat goes through various
stages of development. With its birth begins its struggle with the bourgeoisie. At first the contest is
carried on by individual laborers, then by the work people of a factory, then by the operatives of
one trade, in one locality, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also presents ways in which the proletariat is a unique class, which is connected with improved
communication. The most significant trait of the proletariat is that they have nothing to lose
because based on the nature of being proletarians; they have no power at all. What they must do is
destroying the entire system. So when there is a revolution, they will destroy the entire system of
class exploitation, such as private property. ( The Communist Manifesto, n.d.,)
As for this part, he first introduces the idea that economic concerns of a nation, and that the struggle
between the rich bourgeoisie and the hard working proletariat would eventually lead to Communism
. He then depicts how the bourgeois can always get what they wanted. Marx emphasizes positives
that were done by this group, but he certainly seemed consider more on the negatives committed by
the bourgeois.
He defines the proletarians, or the labor class, and how they were formed, suffered, and what
struggles they met. Historically, we can critically say that the proletariat is very particular.
Because as the communist manifesto states: in the past, when a class got the upper hand, it tried to
subject all of society to its own mode of appropriation. However, the proletariat lacks any property
to keep and expand. They must destroy all ways of securing private property. Another key factor of
the proletariat is that, while minorities started past movements, the proletariats are a

Psychoanalysis and counselling have their place, but the most important tool we as humans have
to tackle reality, is the creation of metaphor. Taking one step away from reality to that safe place
of pretend, prepares us to look the world s harsh realities in the face. From there we can name the
horrors and celebrate the joys before going back, with a clearer perspective on situations that bother
us.
Following that, fantasy in children s literature is important as it is an effective mode of writing that
engages the attention of the inexperienced reader in an effort to educate and inculcate values in
him or her, and educating the child reader on ways to handle problems in real life by encouraging
the use of creativity and imagination. In addition, fantasy in children s literature is necessary to
entertain and keep the attention of the child reader, in order for him or her to continue reading the

Gatsby was constantly reinventing himself, being dishonest about his life and background, but
in order to achieve his dream, Daisy, he could not escape his own imagination and/or truth. Once
reaching his dream, his life would have no meaning. Gatsby, like most Iranian women, needed to

Scaffolding could be considered an art in the right eyes, it is over 17,000 years old and around
since the oldest civilizations. The scale of the paintings suggests that the artists must have used
ladders and scaffolding. Archaeologists discovered sockets for scaffolding beams in the walls of
the cave. (Encarta, 2003). Scaffoldingis full of culture and is used by everyone in some way. There
s many different styles, but there s usually one uniform way now with steel scaffolding. I really
chose this topic for my senior project, because of my interest i have with scaffolding. I began
working with scaffolding over the summer as a small job to make money, but looking back at it
now I really enjoyed doing it. Working over the summer interested me in not only the basics of

Socio Economic Class And Health Inequality
Socio economic class has been linked to health inequality ever since the mid 19 century, when
reported the living condition of the poor. Chadwick, E.1842 reported that the average life
expectancy in Bethnal Green was 45 for professional but only 16 for labourers. Concern about
inequality within the population in the early 20th century was offered as one major justification for
the setting up of National Health Service (NHS) based on the recommendation of the Beverage
report (1942). The health inequality still exists relating the socio economic (RG social classscale)
and life expectancy. In the late 20th, the Black Report (1980) confirmed that social class is the
main cause of overall death and the inequality gap between social classesstrata appear to be
widening. Townsend and Davidson (1982) identified five most important factors of income;
occupation, education, housing and lifestyle affecting health. Of these factors occupation is one of
the most accurate predictors of all life chance. Social class model has three general categories:
upper class, middle classand working class. In Europe, it has been relay on occupation based

Diversity At Workplace Diversity Within The Workplace
1.0 Diversity at workplace Diversity is a very extensive subject and can be in any genre or class;
it is difficult to categorize because of its complex nature. According to Res (2012), diversity can
be represented as a variety of human aspects pertaining to different societies and cultures in the
workforce or can be explained tolerating the differences. On the contrary, diversity is a quest of
differences among human beings in safe, positive and nurturing surroundings and moves beyond
simple tolerance with acceptance and respect (Llopis 2011). It is important that in the twenty
first century, the hospitality industry is highly valued by the workforce due to high level of
mobility between and across the globe which has impacts on the workplace (Baum et al., 2007).
According to Ozbilgin (2008), diversity is one of the top global issues and requires management
attention. There are both benefits and challenges in managing diversity. However, Golnaz and
Hoa (2002) stated that most organizations agree that diversity is a reality and while managing the
same, it can be either an asset or a hindrance towards goals (Gleason 2004). Diversity helps the
organization become proactive and flexible to new aspects and scenarios (Pwc 2011). To manage a
successful diverse workforce, organisations need to promote self awareness, openness, clear
headedness, adaptability, candour and egalitarianism. This can be a challenging task due to
complex human behaviour and biases (Parkin 2009). 2.0

Genesis Chapter 24-11 Analysis
It is fair to assume that because of their different tasks, they spent their working hours in very
different environments, had to adopt different ways of dressing, used different tools, and perhaps
even had different diets and associations. The exact reasons are not given to us in the immediate
account but Cain s elements were not accepted favorably and ... the LORD had respect unto Abel
and to his offering. (Gen 4:4, KJV). For that, Cain became visibly and aggressively upset.
Apparently he was not happy that his way was not given the respect of being the central standard
and over time did rise up and kill Abel. They were siblings living in the same household, under the
same guidance and direction yet they both worked and identified their... Show more content on

Boris Bizumic in his commentaries of the early users of the term ethnocentrism notes that Ludwig
Gumplowicz wrote in 1883, So far most writing of history is dominated by limited ethnocentric
viewpoints. . . . One can comfortably say that the largest part of historical writing so far actually
has only sprung from this subjective need of human beings to glorify their own and nearest and at
the same time humiliate and sully what is foreign and distant (Bizumic). Bizumic notes that in
Gumplowicz s many examples of this need for glorification he pointed out ethnocentrism among all
cultures. He saw it in the ancient Greeks, who believed that all other groups are barbarian, such as
Aristotle s claim that positive qualities are perfectly balanced only in Greeks, where other groups
are somewhat deficient in positive qualities. He also saw ethnocentrism in Hegel s statement that
Germans represent the objective spirit and therefore may seem as godlike, ethnocentrism among the
French, who believed themselves to be more civilized than other groups (Bizumic). Both Hegel and
Aristotle wrote much and felt strongly on the unique place of humans in the grand scheme of things
and among other animals. Very anthropocentristic, yet even among all the other rational and free

A Report On The s The Great Gatsby By F. Scott...
Three Months earlier.
He had finished with his business in Anchorage, so he decided to catch a plane back to Portland
a few days early. He was going to surprise Natalie. Take her out to an early dinner; Champagne and
candlelight, back to their place for a night of love making, slip the ring into her breakfast and ask
her to be his forever.
It was going to be the perfect surprise. He would make sure of it. But first, he needed to take a
shower and change out of his traveling clothes.
He was surprised to see her car parked in the driveway to their home, since she was normally out
at this time of day. There was another car there too. Maybe it was the car that belonged to the

No doubt, right. You re stopping smoking. Once more.
This presumably best the arrangement of things you shouldn t say, regardless of the possibility that

Smoking is terrible and costly. Why do you do it?
This reaction most likely puts a smoker on edge. It is likewise disgracing and disgrace doesn t

The Hidden Gift Of Being An American Essay
Being able to call yourself an American is a gift, that holds hidden meanings. To me, the
definition of an American is someone who embraces both freedom and the responsibility that
comes with it. America has promised the experience of freedom in race, religion, gender, and
the right to express yourself. Americans know this reality did not occur overnight. Many
courageous people fought and are still fighting for freedom. However, the hidden meaning of
behind the reality of being an American can be demonstrated as greed and longing for wealth or
power. This hidden truth is a mask many Americans may wear, because they are to ashamed to
admit how the American Dream is changing into materials and ethics. The twenty first century is
losing the prideful gift of being an American. Frederick Douglass was a man who fought for his
freedom and faced all the responsibilities that came with it. He was heroic and lionhearted, who
had no hidden qualities. Frederick Douglass called out white Christians for their approval of
slavery on religious grounds. He believed, Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet... Show

Our Socialization Process is Assumed through the Media In America, women are known as the
breadwinners of the family. They go off to work in the morning while their husbands spend the
day cleaning and cooking, some may even have a part time job. Employed or not, the husband
always makes sure their woman is fed after a hard days work. Do these statements sound
ridiculous to you as an American? Are they even feasible? Not in this country, here things are
the complete opposite. How do we know that? Because we have been socialized since day one of
our existence to believe in gender separation, as well as all other aspects of American society. So
who does this to us? Family, friends, schools, and churches are a few. However, in... Show more

Viewers experience the reaction of a person who is rewarded, associate the reward with the
product being advertised and then acquire positive feelings about the product. (Percy
Woodside,1983) An example of this when referring to children has been in hot controversy over
the past few years. Cigarette companies are constantly trying to defend the fact that they try to
lure young kids into the world of smoking through ads. These ads show attractive settings, maybe
a beach with clear blue water and carefree and happy people, maybe a couple, of course with a
cigarette. Kids who see this, observe a carefree, cool lifestyle want these benefits for themselves
and begin smoking. This illustrates how easily children can be convinced. We always thought
cartoons were harmless, animated figures are purely entertainment. However, kids begin with
cartoons that easily socialize and next thing you know, Americas young minds are spending two
to four hours a day viewing #8230; (t.v.). (Spicher Hudak,1997) Studies show that children recall
more information if it s presented verbally and visually such as a t.v. screen.(Walma van der
Molen Van der Voort,1997) In a society where we use the boob tube as both entertainment and

male characters outnumber female characters by about 4:1 and that only a small number of females

Theme Of Love In The Canterbury Tales
The idea of love in marriage is a reoccurring theme within British literature, and Chaucer s The
Canterbury Tales is no exception. The Canterbury Tales consists of a multitude of short stories
which offers a peek into what the social culture of England in the Middle Ages may have been
like. Two stories, in particular, are The Millers Tale and The Knights Tale, which are two
contrasting stories that juxtaposes each other s stance on lovein marriage. From the very moment
Palamon and Arcite lay eyes on Emily in The Knights Tale, they are struck with a love so intense
that they feel sick to their stomachs. Although this may seem like a typical cliche, this behavior
is also fairly typical within the courtly love genre. Palamon and Arcite view Emily as a goddess,
even going as far as to potentially break the knight s oath. Soon after, Duke Theseus enters the
scene and questions Palamon and Arcite s intense love. Theseus believes that love has the
powerful ability to bend people s heart at will. This is evident between Palamon and Arcite as
they are willing to break the oath which they are sworn into to fulfill their desires. Ironically,
Theseus himself had committed silly acts for the name of love and believes that the wretch I am,
now weeping, wailing thus, ( The Knights Tale 931). The Knights Tale has a seemingly conflicting
stance on love in that it paints an ennobling portrayal of courtly love in a degrading way. For
example, it is evident that Arcite and Palamon

Media s Impact On The Effects Of News Media
Effects of News Media
Albert Perez

Information and news media have radically changed the way our society both consumes, and views
the news today. It used to be that we would reach for our morning paper, or turn on the evening
news after a long days worth of work to catch up with the events going on around us. I can recall a
time when I would sit down with my father to watch the evening news. Those days have since
evolved into something not many could have predicted. News and information is now available to
us whenever we please, accessible via a smartphone, tablet, computer, even all day news channels
keeping us up to the minute current with events. As such, the media networks have an obligation to
its consumers to report accurate, and unbiased stories. With that said, many news organizations
exist for the sole purpose of shaping and serving specific political ideals. With the explosion of
electronic media outlets, the ways in which we consume news, and how news is generated, is ever
evolving.
Information media is all around us. Everywhere we go. Look at your phone. Glance at the
computer screen. Peruse the magazines while standing in the checkout line of your local
supermarket. It does not take much searching to locate but has an everlasting impact on those who
consume it. How you say? It all lies in how the information is presented to us. First, and foremost,
news is a money making industry. With that comes the next

To What Extent Is Lorca’s Use of Symbolism and Imagery in...
To what extent is Lorca s use of symbolism and imagery in The House of Bernarda Alba central to
the unfolding of his tragic tale?
When Federico Garcia Lorca talked about his new play, The House of Bernarda Alba, he said
that it was pure realism and did not have a drop of poetry in it, however if you look closely you
can see expressionism elements. The tragedy of the play has been emphasised by symbolism and
imagery to help the unfolding of his tragic tale by presenting the fears, the fact that They ve been
robbed of the capacity of hope and tensions of all the characters; showing the bleak ending for the
girls.
Lorca has used the symbol of heat in The House of Bernarda Alba to show the utter desperation for
passion and male attention: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This symbolism is rather tragic in a way as everyone knows that white does not stay clean
forever. The colour white also emphasises the colour black which the family are forced to wear
by Bernarda: keep your mourning clothes on your backs . The symbolic use of black reminds
the audience of just how long Bernarda s daughters will have to endure the mourning of Antonio
Maria Benavides and how much it will affect them. On the other hand the traditional colour the
black stand for is death, and there is an abundance of that in this play. At the end of Act Two
there is a women who has had a bastard baby and Bernarda reacts in a horrible was Let any
woman who drags her honour in the dirt pay the price . This could foreshadow what is going to
happen to Adela as she has dragged her honour in the dirt . Also there is a question at weather she is
pregnant: clutching herself . This could show that Adela is pregnant and that she sympathises with
the women who is being tortured.
In a way Bernarda is sentencing these girls to life of solitude and unhappiness and Adela also
selfishly prolongs this by killing herself. The lack of colour and of personal opinions in this
house hold almost represents a type asylum, or as is suggested They appear as nuns, not as
eligible young women . This lack of colour makes Adela s lover for colour stand out even more.

The Future Of An Illusion Essay
An Analysis of The Future of an Illusion
In Sigmund Freud s famous philosophical work titled The Future of an Illusion, he uses
psychoanalysis to explain the origins of the concept of God. He presents valid arguments as to
why God is merely a concept created by humans to answer frustrating questions about life in a
satisfying way, and the work seems to be sound in its entirety. However, there is an important
weakness in Freud s reasoning in that if God is meant to create order in the universe, why does the
thought of Him create conflict, fear, and contradiction? Furthermore, though his psychoanalytic
explanation provides fascinating answers to why people believe in God, it cannot demonstrate that
God definitely does not exist.
Famous for his theories of psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud asserted that all human behavior could
be boiled down to sexual and aggressive desires. In this particular book, he explains that humans
created civilization to prevent conflict, since there would be chaos if humans were allowed to
express their natural sexual and aggressive tendencies without a higher power telling them that was
wrong. The principal task of civilization... he states, ... is to defend us against nature (Pg. 15).
However, while a civilization governed by human beings may help protect its members from
murder, rape, stealing, cheating, etc., it is not capable of protecting its members from natural
disasters and the reality of death. Moreover, civilization itself causes problems

Complex Adaptive Systems Of Healthcare Organizations Of...
Complex Adaptive Systems
Healthcare organizations of the past century were designed from 17th century ideology of the
universe based on the teachings of Sir Isaac Newton and Sir Francis Bacon. This was a
predictable and reliable world based on the viewpoint that organizations are machines and as
individuals, we are merely cogs in a wheel, fulfilling a role and playing our part. However, this
understanding has be eradicated by the idea that people and organizations are fluid, dynamic and
living organisms. Newton s clockwork universe, in which big problems can be broken down into
smaller ones, analyzed, and solved by rational deduction, has strongly influenced both the practice
of medicine and the leadership of organizations. But the machine metaphor lets us down badly
when no part of the equation is constant, independent, or predictable. The new science of complex
adaptive systems states that in order to cope with escalating complexity in health care we must
abandon linear models, accept unpredictability, respect (and utilize) autonomy and creativity, and
respond flexibly to emerging patterns and opportunities (Plsek Greenhalgh, 2001).

George W. Bush Is Responsible For The Multiple Attacks On...
The eleventh of september 2001 is a date that american citizens will never forget. On this day a
horrific event that affected the lives of many, if not all, united states citizens resulting in about
3,000 deaths and numerous injuries took place. After the devastating attacks on this nation,
people s cry for truth and justice was heard loud and clear by the president of that time. Yet in
response he perceived destroying valuable evidence as giving the truth, plus, a devastating
pointless war with Iraq as Justice. These are just a few things president George Bush did to hide
the fabrications in his story about the air attacks on the tallest buildings in the world. However,
as we find out more about that day, and uncover more of his lies, we can only draw one
conclusion. Americas very own forty third president, George W Bush is responsible for the
multiple attacks on september eleventh. George Bush had prior knowledge about the attacks.
September eleventh 2001 was just a secret operation in which the government pretended to be a
victim of a premeditated self attack on their own people to justify going to war with a falsely
accused enemy. Such a deceitful operation is most popularly known as False flag terrorism but to
get away with an operation this grand the ability of emergency responders would have to be

  • 3. Why I Want To Pursue A Master Of Science Degree Education is not preparation for life; Education is life for itself. These are the words of John Dewey, which have led an everlasting impression on my mind. It relates to the idea of lifelong learning, and the knowledge that education is much more than what lies within the curriculum. Whenever I pause by to reflect on my ken of knowledge, I feel that how little I have learnt and that an enormous, unknown and fascinating wealth of knowledge lies before me, yet to be explored. Education is like an edifice based on strong rudiments and strengthened by the fundamentals and practical skills acquired during one s lifetime. So my main goal is to design the next generation innovations in field rather than being just a user of existing technologies and findings. So I intend to pursue Master of Science degree in Automotive software Engineering at your university as the first step towards obtaining a PHD. Nothing is Impossible in Life has always been a motivating force behind all my achievements. I strongly believe that enjoy what we do and having the passion to pursue, we can ultimately achieve our destination, no matter how much efforts are needed. My inherent urge and interest to pursue engineering emanates from an instinctive inclination for Physics and Mathematics since my schooling. From early childhood, I was very captivated with electronic appliances around me. I would ask my parents about their principle of working. I always tried to find out what basic elements and ... • 4. The Business Environment Of Nigeria And Norway Essay Question 1The concept of Business EnvironmentBusiness environment can be understood as the combination of all environmental conditions and influences that are capable of affecting or influencing business activities. According to Anyanwu et al (1996) defines the environment of business as the aggregation of the pattern of all the external and internal conditions and influences that affect the existence, growth and development of the business. Opportunities and threats may be associated with external environment while the strengths and weakness may be associated with internal environment of the business (Audu, 2010a).In this paper, we will compare the business environment of two countries namely: Nigeria and Norway. The reason for choosing these two countries include the fact that both are part of the top ten net oil exporting nations for which hydrocarbon exports account for more than 40% of total exports. We will compare and contrast the fiscal policy of both countries and the business environment.Overview of Nigeria and NorwayLet give a quick fact summary of these two countries:NigeriaNorwayPopulation169.3 million5.1 millionGDP (PPP)$479.3 billion$280.0 billion6.3% growth0.8% growth7.0% 5 year compound annual growth0.8% 5 year compound annual growth$2,831 per capita$54,947 per capitaUnemployment7.5%3.5%Inflation(CPI)8.5%2.1%FDI Inflow$5.6 billion$9.3 billionBusiness Freedom48.392.1Labor Freedom77.748.2Monetary Freedom70.481.7Government Spending76.143.8Fiscal ... • 5. The Importance Of Reducing The Intensity Of A Sonic Boom Shawn Merrick Miller Ryan Cilsick Science Research 12/20/16 The importance of reducing the intensity of a sonic boom is essential to making supersonic flight a possibility for passenger aircraft over land. Currently, supersonic flight over land in the US is prohibited by the FAA due to the annoyance associated with the sonicboom to people (observers) on the ground. The advancement of sonic boom reduction could lead to the advancement in the way we travel around the world with amazing speeds. Speeds up to mach 3.3 at 88,000ft (That s nearly 17 miles!) can be achieved in an SR 71 Blackbird, that keep in mind, it was made and introduced in 1966. 50 years later, we have the ability to transport people vast distances and at high speeds safely, but we don t. Why not? Getting up to speed is not the issue in this circumstance, the issue is doing it quietly. It can be said that this problem can be eliminated by making a suborbital transport aircraft, which could be very beneficial, but will still create a sonic boom, and will still, annoy people. At a higher price. Supersonic flight was pioneered by the air force in 1947, when Chuck Yeager became the first man to break the sound barrier. Shortly after, supersonic aircraft research was started. Supersonic cruising aircraft did not begin until the mid 1950 s. Research on such aircraft had its origins in the United States in the work which was begun in 1954 or 1955 in support of the Air Force XB 70 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Reactive Memory Recent studies indicated that memory T lymphocytes contain distinct populations of central memory (TCM) and effector memory (TEM) cells characterized by distinct homing capacity and effector function. Protective memory is mediated by TEMs that migrate to inflamed peripheral tissues and display immediate effector function, whereas reactive memory is mediated by TCMs that home to T cell areas of secondary lymphoid organs, have little or no effector function, but readily proliferate and differentiate to effector cells in response to antigenic stimulation (Lanzavecchia and Sallusto, 2000). T central memory cells Human TCMs are CD45RO+ memory cells that constitutively express CCR7 and CD62L , two receptors that are also characteristic of naГЇve T cells, which are required for cell extravasation through high endothelial venules (HEV) and migration to T cell areas of secondary lymphoid organs (Campbell et al., 1998). When compared with naГЇve T cells, TCMs have higher sensitivity to antigenic stimulation thus providing more effective stimulatory feedback to dendritic cells (DCs) and B cells (Forster et al., 1999). Following TCR triggering, TCMs produce mainly IL 2, but after proliferation they differentiate to effector cells and produce large amounts of IL 4 of IFN Оі (Lanzavecchia and Sallusto, 2000).... • 7. Biomedical Studies Personal Statement When I first entered college, I had thought that I wanted to major in Biomedical Sciences. The reason being, I was diagnosed at the age of 7 with Type 1 Diabetes. I was tossing around the thought that I was interested, possibly, in having a career that involved my disease in it. From being a part of this compass program, I have learned about many careers. Even though I learned more of what I do not want to do, it has helped me narrow down to majors that I am more interested in. I was thinking of still having the possibility of entering the medical field, but I am unsure. Learningabout the different careers in the medical field and visiting labs has shown me that it isn t something that I am interested as much as when I first enter college. While I do want to be involved with my disease, I m not sure if I want to have a career with it, but it could still be a possibility. After having been in my first college year for a couple of months, I still had no idea what I was leaning towards for a major. Within these first couple of months I had learned that Biomedical Studies was not something that I was sure of, along with many other careers and majors that I learned about in the Compass class that were not for me. • 8. The Perfect Escape Ever since the creation of Alcatraz, it was made apparent that it would be the best prison ever constructed due to its location and the way it was built. Many people attempted to escape the so called inescapable prison, but only few people s efforts came to fruition. John and Clarence Anglin, Frank Morris, and Allen West carefully planned and executed the perfect escape. To this day, this escape is considered a mystery. The origin of Alcatraz dates back to 1775 when an explorer named Juan Manuel de Ayala discovered the island and named it Alcatraces. The name was later shortened to Alcatraz. This island is located off the San Francisco Bay, and during the California Gold Rush the government set aside the island for a possible military... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This attempt occurred during a bad storm and the Bay s currents were especially fast and strong most people believe Roe and Cole were swept out to sea. Officially, they are listed missing and presumed dead (Alcatraz Escape Attempts). Needless to say, escape from this island was near impossible. Although escape seemed impossible, many people still attempted it. John Anglin, Clarence Anglin, Frank Morris, and Allen West are the four people behind the famous escape of Alcatraz. Frank Lee Morris is often thought of as the mastermind behind the escape. Frank Morris was registered as prisoner #AZ1441. Morris was taken to Alcatraz in January of 1960. He was very well acquainted with prisons. As a young child, he was an orphan and was passed around to different households. His criminal record began at the young age of thirteen. He was in and out of prison from charges of theft to breaking and entering. Often times he would be back in jail less than a year after getting out. Before going to Alcatraz he had already successfully escaped many prisons. Upon arrival, Morris began plotting how to escape. Morris was said to, have an I.Q. of 133, borderline genius, and was the mastermind of the escape plot (Frank Morris: Only Alcatraz Escapee was from D.C.). John Anglin s number was #AZ1476, Clarence Anglin s number was #AZ1485, and Allen West s was #AZ1335 (Frank Morris: Only Alcatraz Escapee was from D.C.). • 9. When You Are Old By William Butler Yeats When You Are Old is a poem that was written by William Butler Yeats in 1891. It is a poem about a person who wants to be remembered by those he loves. It is a story about dreams forgotten and memories long gone. Yeats captured a feeling of longing in this poem that some people may never understand unless they have a relationship that is more to them than any other relationship they will ever have. When You Are Old talks about a woman who was loved by a man until he died. It is a story of how a life should be remembered by a person who loved another. When You Are Old is about the loveof a man for a woman whom he had on a pedestal. He felt this woman was loved by many with a true and deep love and loved by others with a false love. He felt this woman was loved much like people today love celebrities. Yeats wrote about this woman as though he knew her intimately. He asks her to slowly read, and dream of the soft look, Your eyes had once and of their shadows deep (Yeats). He wants her to remember how things were in her youth. He wants her to remember her dreams and think of how things were and how they may have been. Yeats is asking her to take her time and day dream about her glory days. In the first lines of the poem Yeats describes this woman as old and grey and full of sleep (Yeats). The speaker of the poem addresses his beloved saying that when she is aged she should read a particular book which will remind her of her youth. She will remember the ... • 10. My Statement of Purpose for Undergraduate Education at the... One of the great mysteries of life is what the future holds. Knowledge of the present and past is clear but no one, no matter how intelligent or wise, is capable of predicting what the future might bring. Many try and, in some marginal way, are correct in their predictions but for most the future is the great unknown. With the future unknown the best that one can do is prepare for as many eventualities as possible. As unpredictable as life is the one certainty is that the need for a quality education is an essential part of it. Toward this end, I certainly anticipate within the next ten years to have completed my formal education and to have established roots in my business career. As I intend to pursue a masters degree in business, I will have only been in the working environment for, at most, four years but should have been able to formulate many of the contacts necessary for me to succeed. Networking is an essential element of any good business career and I am determined to make myself as accessible to as many interesting and accomplished individuals as I can. Success breeds success and it is my sincerest hope that I will be able to surround myself with such individuals as I pursue my career. The future is uncertain but I am confident that by providing myself with a quality education, procuring a good job, and making myself available to establish good contacts I can handle any eventualities in a proper and prepared manner. Preparedness is the key and by beginning my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Summary Of Success Is Counted Sweetest By Emily Dickinson The poem, Success is counted sweetest, by Emily Dickinson, portrays success as something that only those who have never obtained it can truly comprehend its value. The writer makes this apparent in the poem by defining success, victory on a battlefield and a dying soldier s view of success. Dickinson writes a poem that relays the emotions of those who understand defeat. In the opening lines of the poem Dickinson defines success as something pleasant that is treasured most by those who have not experienced it by stating, Success is counted sweetest / By those who ne er succeed (Dickinson 93). Marxism (Macionis Plummer, 2012, p. 117), which is one of the main contributors to this sociology, was coined by Karl Marx, a German sociologist who by observing the various relations within a society came up with his own beliefs on how society has changed and how it can be improved which have been widely used across the world (Macionis Plummer, 2012, p. 117). He believed that in the past, people lived in collective groups and were not divided by economic status but shared what they had and focused more on working together than working for each other and this was referred to as communism (Macionis Plummer, 2012, p. 119). However, Marx suggested that as time progressed people began to fight for land and possessions and this led to weaker groups being kept as slaves (Macionis Plummer, 2012, p. 18) and were used for the benefit of their capturers and this ultimately created a distinction between those who had power and those who did not (Macionis Plummer, 2012, p. 119). Marx also suggested that from this came what is known as capitalism (Macionis Plummer, 2012, p. 117), which was the result of technological advancements such as the use of machines to produce goods in factories (Macionis Plummer, 2012, p. 117) ... The Department of Defense takes up the majority of the US budget; it not only pulls in over a trillion dollars of taxpayer money yearly, but it also is unable to accurately account for the exact whereabouts of those funds year after year. The DoD does, of course, offer its own budget, however, due to the byzantine and ineffective nature of the Federal Bureaucracy, it is impossible to verify if the money is even so much as used for its intended purpose. Looking at this budget, two sections stand out as bloated, which is a statement in a budget that is packed with Pork barrel spending: Procurement, and Maintenance. Ultimately, should these two areas of the budget be reasonably downsized, and the others thoroughly audited, the DoD s operating expenses could be reduced drastically, much to the taxpayer s benefit. Procurement is, by far, the easiest section of the budget to pare down; a few simple reforms in regards to the process by which government contracts are granted, coupled with the elimination of several pork barrel programs, could save federal government millions of dollars. In regards to contracts, all deals should be strictly held to the original price and time frame; While that might seem like an obvious step, it is in fact a great leap forward for the DoD, where most programs go over budget. Rather than using ionising radiation like the X ray or CT scan, the MRI uses a strong magnetic field and radio waves to image both soft tissue and bone structures. The strong magnetic field is created by passing an electric current through wire coils located in the machine and around the body part being imaged. The body is made up of around 60% water, and water molecules contain hydrogen protons which become aligned in a magnetic field. Hydrogen protons are also abundant in fat, making them ideal for imaging purposes. The strong magnetic field from the MRI aligns the proton spins The hydrogen proton can be likened to the planet earth, spinning on its axis, with a north south pole. In this respect it behaves like a small bar magnet. Under normal circumstances, these hydrogen proton bar magnets spin in the body with their axes randomly aligned. (Berger, 2002) Under the MRI s strong magnetic field, the protons axes align, creating a magnetic vector oriented along the axis of the MRI machine. The machine also produces additional energy in the form of radio waves that redirect the uniformed alignment of the hydrogen protons. The protons absorb the energy from the radio frequency and flip their spins. When the radio frequency source is turned off, the protons gradually return to alignment, and the magnetic vector returns to its resting state. Lamentation and Hope in the Depiction of Paradise The quest for an earthly paradise and the anticipation of a heavenly one is a drive that has always prevailed in humankind s search for God and redemption from the original sin. The desire for a terrestrial manifestation of paradise, a so called lost origin is predominantly reflected in writers depictions of the fall of man. This can be seen in Milton s Paradise Lost and Lucy Hutchinson s Order and Disorder. Both these epic poems at times magnify the sadness and gravity of the loss of a paradisal home in which Adam and Eve as our fore parents dwelt under God s close guidance and love. The fascination with Eden s bliss is manifested in Adam and Eve s admiration, however it also extends to Satan s various instances of questioning his own actions in the shadow of such beauty. Perhaps crucial to both interpretations of the fall of man is that the knowledge gained from the forbidden fruit is the realization of loss, the sudden true appreciation of the beauty of a paradise that is now lost. On the other hand the promise of redemption is provided through God s mercy in Death, thus allowing for a hope and anticipation of a heavenly paradise. This portrayal of a merciful God in Paradise Lost and Order and Disorder, grows out of man s search for redemption and a desire to be united with God in a heavenly paradise. • 33. Helen Of Troy Helen of Troy In Greek mythology, Helen of Troy, also known as Helen of Sparta, was the daughter of Zeus and Leda, and was a sister of Castor, Pollux, and Clytemnestra. In Greek myths, she was considered the most beautiful woman in the world. By marriage she was Queen of Laconia, a province within Homeric Greece, the wife of King Menelaus. Her abduction by Paris, Prince of Troy, brought about the Trojan War. Elements of her putative biography come from classical authors such as Aristophanes, Cicero, Euripides and Homer (both The Iliad and The Odyssey). In her youth she was abducted by, or eloped with, Theseus, and in some accounts bore him a child. A competition between her suitors for her hand in marriage sees Menelaus emerge victorious.... Helen has mixed feelings because she feels some complicity in her own abduction and realizes how much death and suffering has been the result. That her Trojan husband is not terribly manly compared with his brother or her first husband only increases her feelings of regret. However, it is not clear that Helen had any choice. She is, after all, a possession; one of many Paris stole from Argos, although the only one he is unwilling to return (7.362 64). Helen s fault lies in her beauty rather than in her acts, according to the old men at the Scaean Gate (3.158). Helen s First Appearance Helen s first appearance is when the goddess Iris, disguised as a sister in law, comes to summon Helen from her weaving. Weaving is a typically wifely occupation, but the subject Helen is weaving is unusual, since she is depicting the suffering of the Trojan War heroes. Roisman argues this shows Helen s willingness to take responsibility for precipitating the deadly course of events. Iris, who summons Helen to witness a duel between her two husbands to decide with whom she will live, inspires Helen with a longing for her original husband, Menelaus. Helen does not appear to see behind the disguise to the goddess and goes compliantly, without uttering a word. Then ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I am more like concerning on bourgeoisie and proletarians. The reason I interested in this section because it introduces and explains the final conflict between the bourgeoisie and the proletariat. He also presents ways in which the proletariat is a unique class, which is connected with improved communication. The most significant trait of the proletariat is that they have nothing to lose because based on the nature of being proletarians; they have no power at all. What they must do is destroying the entire system. So when there is a revolution, they will destroy the entire system of class exploitation, such as private property. ( The Communist Manifesto, n.d.,) As for this part, he first introduces the idea that economic concerns of a nation, and that the struggle between the rich bourgeoisie and the hard working proletariat would eventually lead to Communism . He then depicts how the bourgeois can always get what they wanted. Marx emphasizes positives that were done by this group, but he certainly seemed consider more on the negatives committed by the bourgeois. He defines the proletarians, or the labor class, and how they were formed, suffered, and what struggles they met. Historically, we can critically say that the proletariat is very particular. Because as the communist manifesto states: in the past, when a class got the upper hand, it tried to subject all of society to its own mode of appropriation. However, the proletariat lacks any property to keep and expand. They must destroy all ways of securing private property. Taking one step away from reality to that safe place of pretend, prepares us to look the world s harsh realities in the face. From there we can name the horrors and celebrate the joys before going back, with a clearer perspective on situations that bother us. Following that, fantasy in children s literature is important as it is an effective mode of writing that engages the attention of the inexperienced reader in an effort to educate and inculcate values in him or her, and educating the child reader on ways to handle problems in real life by encouraging the use of creativity and imagination. Once reaching his dream, his life would have no meaning. Gatsby, like most Iranian women, needed to learn that the past was dead, the present is what we have today, and the future is what we can create in our own dreams and imagination. With the loss of dream in their current situation the students were able posses their dreams through books. In order to create your dream you must engulf yourself in a novel. A novel is not an allegory. It is the sensual experience of another world. If you don t enter that world, Nafisi explained, hold your breath with the characters and become involved in their destiny, you won t be able to empathize, and empathy is at the heart of the novel. This is how you read a novel: you inhale the experience. (pg 111) Nafisi taught those seven women how to gasp freedoms in which literature brings to life. Concern about inequality within the population in the early 20th century was offered as one major justification for the setting up of National Health Service (NHS) based on the recommendation of the Beverage report (1942). The health inequality still exists relating the socio economic (RG social classscale) and life expectancy. According to Res (2012), diversity can be represented as a variety of human aspects pertaining to different societies and cultures in the workforce or can be explained tolerating the differences. On the contrary, diversity is a quest of differences among human beings in safe, positive and nurturing surroundings and moves beyond simple tolerance with acceptance and respect (Llopis 2011). It is important that in the twenty first century, the hospitality industry is highly valued by the workforce due to high level of mobility between and across the globe which has impacts on the workplace (Baum et al., 2007). According to Ozbilgin (2008), diversity is one of the top global issues and requires management attention. There are both benefits and challenges in managing diversity. However, Golnaz and Hoa (2002) stated that most organizations agree that diversity is a reality and while managing the same, it can be either an asset or a hindrance towards goals (Gleason 2004). Diversity helps the organization become proactive and flexible to new aspects and scenarios (Pwc 2011). To manage a successful diverse workforce, organisations need to promote self awareness, openness, clear headedness, adaptability, candour and egalitarianism. This can be a challenging task due to complex human behaviour and biases (Parkin 2009). 2.0 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 48. Theme Of Love In The Canterbury Tales The idea of love in marriage is a reoccurring theme within British literature, and Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales is no exception. The Canterbury Tales consists of a multitude of short stories which offers a peek into what the social culture of England in the Middle Ages may have been like. Two stories, in particular, are The Millers Tale and The Knights Tale, which are two contrasting stories that juxtaposes each other s stance on lovein marriage. From the very moment Palamon and Arcite lay eyes on Emily in The Knights Tale, they are struck with a love so intense that they feel sick to their stomachs. Although this may seem like a typical cliche, this behavior is also fairly typical within the courtly love genre. Palamon and Arcite view Emily as a goddess, even going as far as to potentially break the knight s oath. Soon after, Duke Theseus enters the scene and questions Palamon and Arcite s intense love. Theseus believes that love has the powerful ability to bend people s heart at will. This is evident between Palamon and Arcite as they are willing to break the oath which they are sworn into to fulfill their desires. Ironically, Theseus himself had committed silly acts for the name of love and believes that the wretch I am, now weeping, wailing thus, ( The Knights Tale 931). When Federico Garcia Lorca talked about his new play, The House of Bernarda Alba, he said that it was pure realism and did not have a drop of poetry in it, however if you look closely you can see expressionism elements. The tragedy of the play has been emphasised by symbolism and imagery to help the unfolding of his tragic tale by presenting the fears, the fact that They ve been robbed of the capacity of hope and tensions of all the characters; showing the bleak ending for the girls. This symbolism is rather tragic in a way as everyone knows that white does not stay clean forever. On the other hand the traditional colour the black stand for is death, and there is an abundance of that in this play. At the end of Act Two there is a women who has had a bastard baby and Bernarda reacts in a horrible was Let any woman who drags her honour in the dirt pay the price . • 52. The Future Of An Illusion Essay An Analysis of The Future of an Illusion In Sigmund Freud s famous philosophical work titled The Future of an Illusion, he uses psychoanalysis to explain the origins of the concept of God. He presents valid arguments as to why God is merely a concept created by humans to answer frustrating questions about life in a satisfying way, and the work seems to be sound in its entirety. However, there is an important weakness in Freud s reasoning in that if God is meant to create order in the universe, why does the thought of Him create conflict, fear, and contradiction? Furthermore, though his psychoanalytic explanation provides fascinating answers to why people believe in God, it cannot demonstrate that God definitely does not exist. Famous for his theories of psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud asserted that all human behavior could be boiled down to sexual and aggressive desires. In this particular book, he explains that humans created civilization to prevent conflict, since there would be chaos if humans were allowed to express their natural sexual and aggressive tendencies without a higher power telling them that was wrong. The principal task of civilization... he states, ... is to defend us against nature (Pg. 15). However, while a civilization governed by human beings may help protect its members from murder, rape, stealing, cheating, etc., it is not capable of protecting its members from natural disasters and the reality of death. Moreover, civilization itself causes problems ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Complex Adaptive Systems Of Healthcare Organizations Of... Complex Adaptive Systems Healthcare organizations of the past century were designed from 17th century ideology of the universe based on the teachings of Sir Isaac Newton and Sir Francis Bacon. This was a predictable and reliable world based on the viewpoint that organizations are machines and as individuals, we are merely cogs in a wheel, fulfilling a role and playing our part. However, this understanding has be eradicated by the idea that people and organizations are fluid, dynamic and living organisms. Newton s clockwork universe, in which big problems can be broken down into smaller ones, analyzed, and solved by rational deduction, has strongly influenced both the practice of medicine and the leadership of organizations. But the machine metaphor lets us down badly when no part of the equation is constant, independent, or predictable. The new science of complex adaptive systems states that in order to cope with escalating complexity in health care we must abandon linear models, accept unpredictability, respect (and utilize) autonomy and creativity, and respond flexibly to emerging patterns and opportunities (Plsek Greenhalgh, 2001). Veterans Health Administrationwithin the Department of Veterans Affairs The Department of Veterans Affairs was established as an independent agency under the President of the United States in 1930, and was elevated to Cabinet level in 1989 (U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs [VA], 2014).
