The changing role of law and the need to relate with a transforming society and its
citizens has led to a demand on decision making in political systems (Bijsterveld
2010). Due to the variance in the decision making of these systems, interest groups
carry out their public affairs (PA) activities in a plethora of ways (Baumgartner 2007)
as features such as type of political system, structure, accountability, dependency on

PA is however carried out in an unbiased and harmonious way as lobbyists work
hand in hand with EU officials (Woll 2006, Mahoney 2008) and other interest
groups, as the EU would rather grant access to a Europeanized voice when
addressing issues.
With regards to choice of policies to influence, interest groups in the US are more
focused on influencing legislative matters rather than regulatory policies
(Baumgartner 2007, Mahoney 2008) as they seeks to influence the decisions of the
congress, the court or the administrative government (Hansford 2004). The EU is a
regulatory regime, therefore, organized interest groups particularly business interests
prefer to lobby regulatory processes to secure their individual and collective business
interests (Levy and Prakash 2003). This is done because regulatory processes affect
businesses and more often than not have policy outcomes (Baumgartner 2007).
The level of dependence on organized civil societies (OCS) is another feature that
influences the practice of PA. EU s dependence on OCS arises from their lack of
resources both financial and human, to carry out their activities. The EU commission
is highly short staffed, and in need of OCS to provide technical information and act

Mystery As A Mystery Story
Edgar Allan Poe, a famous 19th century American author, invented many tropes that
are common in mystery novels today. My mystery story incorporates many of these
elements, such as, an unusual crime, a highly observant investigator, and a sidekick
protagonist who helps relay how the mystery is solved to the audience.
At the beginning of my short story, I introduced Poe s idea of a highly observant
investigator. Poe s short stories contain the character, Mr. Dupin, who is able to
observe situations beyond the abilities of an average human being. For example,
Mr. Dupin is able to vocalize the exact thoughts of his companion, the narrator,
while they are on a walk together in the short story, The Murders in the Rue
Morgue, despite not having talked to his companion for several minutes. Poe
explains through the character of Dupin that he was able to accurately predict the
narrator s thoughts through simple observations and logical conclusions. Likewise,
my character, Mr. Harris , observational skills surpass those of an average person.
He is able to surmise the character of the narrator of my story without ever holding a
conversation. He does so through the simple observations of the narrator s
appearance that could escape the notice of a normal person.
In addition to containing a hyper aware protagonist in my mystery, I also included an

In Youth Core we spend a lot of time cooking meals for those staying at the Ronald
McDonald house, which is a place for families to stay who have children at
Children s Mercy Hospital under long term care. These families always walk in

Gun rights have been an issue and a hot topic in United States for quite some time,
recently assault rifles have been apart of that conversation. This issue has many
different opinions depending on the people you ask some people believe they
should be able to possess an assault rifle while some believe that they should be
limited, banned, or both. The last big push to halt manufacturing of these was the
1994 Assault Weapons Ban, this was supposed to prevent production of these

Michael Cunningham s The Hours tells the story of three women, each from different
eras of society, yet connected through the internal conflicts which they face. Laura
Brown, one of the novel s three protagonists, lives the white middle class American
dream. However, throughout the novel her mental health begins to deteriorate due to
the oppressive lifestyle which she feels society has forced upon her. The Virginia
Woolfportrayed by Cunningham, was in fact historically accurate to the original
Virginia Woolf. Wolf struggled with mental illness throughout her lifetime and the
idea of breaking the mold of traditional women s roles. Unlike Laura Brown and
Virginia Woolf, Clarissa Vaughn enjoys all of the freedoms which the late twentieth

involved in the sculpture session, because I do not know of any public school that

Essay One Throughout our class, we have seen a great variety of gender construction.
Through centuries of gender divides, there have been women who created for
themselves and that of their community new identities that not only grew local and
worldwide attention, but have inspired historians for centuries. In the case of
Malinche, she used her womanhood to secure her spot with Cortes, as he conquered
and ruled over the Aztecs. Ursela de Jesus contributed to the
Catholic church of her time, and made a new ideal for servant hood as a woman in the
church.
Yet not all of these experiences were positive; trials and tribulations often faced
Malinche and
Ursela. Through the occcurences of these women it is evident that no matter the
circumstance or outcome, women face a double standard, yet in certain cases use
their knowledge to work past these standards. Malinche was multilingual. Because of
her advanced preoccupation with learning languages and using the detailed
experiences of her family background, she was able to advance
Cortes and his army. Upon analyzing the way in which Malinche furthered Cortes,
one can deduce that throughout her life, she was held to an unfair standard of life
expectations, simply because she was a women. When the Spanish came to take

I have a story that happened to my cousin Fatima. She was 22 years old. She had an
accident. She lost her kidney in the accident. She needed another kidney. In Kuwait,
you can t buy an organ, so she waited for anyone to donate a kidney for her but no

Throughout the book Ender grows and changes as a person. In the beginning of
the book, Ender can be seen as anxious, or immature. This is shown on page 29,
Ender is wanting the comfort of his family during the lauch. This is very similar to
the way that a child going to school for the very first time acts. This is because of
the abrupt changes happening in both scenarios. As the book goes on, Ender
realizes that not only is he smart, but that he is also a player in the School s game.
At times, Ender feels as if he is unwanted, or that he needs to cry. Realizing that he
is an immediate target if he is caught crying, Ender controlls his emotions, and moves
