Personal Memoir Essay
Crafting a personal memoir essay can be a challenging yet deeply rewarding endeavor. Delving
into the realms of one's own life requires a delicate balance between self-reflection and objective
storytelling. It demands the writer to navigate the labyrinth of memories, emotions, and
experiences, carefully selecting and arranging them to create a cohesive and engaging narrative.
The difficulty lies not only in the act of recollection but also in the art of introspection.
Unraveling the threads of personal history can unearth a myriad of emotions, from joyous
triumphs to painful setbacks. The challenge is to convey these sentiments authentically, allowing
the reader to connect with the essence of the narrative on a visceral level.
Moreover, there is the perpetual struggle to maintain a sense of objectivity. A personal memoir is
not merely a chronological sequence of events; it is a reflection on the self, an exploration of
personal growth and transformation. Striking the right balance between vulnerability and
detachment can be akin to walking a tightrope, as too much emotion may overwhelm the
narrative, while too much detachment may render it sterile.
The art of storytelling itself adds another layer of complexity. A compelling memoir is not just a
collection of facts; it is a story with a beginning, middle, and end. Crafting a narrative arc that
captivates the reader while staying true to the realities of one's life is an intricate task that
requires both skill and finesse.
In essence, writing a personal memoir essay is a journey into the recesses of one's own identity. It
demands a willingness to confront the past, a keen sense of self-awareness, and the ability to
translate personal experiences into a narrative that resonates universally. Despite its challenges,
the process can be cathartic, allowing the writer to gain insights into their own life while
offering readers a glimpse into the shared human experience.

essay, a variety of resources are available. Similar essays, guidance, and more can be explored

The Lightning Thief Book And Movie Analysis
Movies are Thieves A common goal of Hollywood productions is to attract a vast
audience. In order to earn mass profits from their movies, directors will change any
storyline to create an easy to follow, action filled success. The Lightning Thief
novel, written by Rick Riordan, and The Lightning Thief motion picture provide
excellent examples of how books are morphed into classic, money making
attractions. Even though The Lightning Thief book and movie both share main
characters and settings, the book expresses more detail and educates the audience
while the movie focuses more on action and convenience, allowing for more errors
between plots. Action is one of many differences found between the book and the
motion picture. The entire plot of the movie revolves around finding and fighting
for the pearls of Persephone, but in the book, Percy, the main character, receives
the pearls as a gift on behalf of his father for use in a time of trouble. The settings
and opponents faced by Percy and his companions, Annabeth and Grover, are the
same: Medusa at the Emporium, Hydra at the Parthenon replica, and the Lotus
eaters at the casino. However, the reward for winning in the book is survival, not a
pearl as portrayed in the movie. Another example is the scene involving Hades
Minotaur. Percy is not an experienced fighter at the beginning of the book; therefore,
Percy faints after taking one of the Minotaur s horns. The movie illustrates Percy as a
potentially skilled hero in
Strategic Issues the Association Should Address Essay
TO:APSA Council
RE:Council Discussion Topic: Organized Sections
This overview is designed to help launch a Council small group discussion about
journals, and about strategic issues the Association may wish to address. The memo
notes salient issues the Association is or will soon face. The themes included here
are surely not complete and the goal is for a discussion that helps ferret out or
sharpen heretofore unarticulated issues as well as the ones we see now.
I.Introduction
APSA Organized Sections have been a mainstay of the Associationsince first formed
in the early 1980 s. There has not been a comprehensive review of Sections and the
ways in which the prominence of Sections has shaped the Association since then, ...

This increases the total cost of APSA membership commensurately, especially
consequential if a member seeks to join multiple sections. We worry this may
discourage multiple section membership, diminish opportunity for cross fertilization
among fields; and create sticker shock for APSA membership in general.
At the same time, there may be potential value for the Association of being aligned
with a bundle of journal content organized across topical areas a kind of journal based
analogue to the annual meeting division structure.
As a specific matter, APSA has the opportunity help the State Politics and Policy
Organized Section purchase its journal from the university press that now owns it, by
lending the Section money with payback revenues over 10 years. Assuming the
business deal made sense, would such a step make sense from the standpoint of an
Association wide journals policy.
APSA might seek to bring Section journals more under the Association umbrella itself
and applying journal guidelines, unbundling subscriptions from Section membership
(while leaving editorial control with the Sections.)
C.Governance and Liabilities
APSA s Organized Sections operate under the Association s Tax ID number, and
legally are elements of APSA as a corporation. A few APSA sections engage in
outside activities such as separate conferences. Generally, these are handled entirely
by section members
Muted Group Theory Essay
Muted Group Theory and Communication Privacy Management Theory in Sense and
Sensibility Based on the beloved Jane Austen novel of the same name, Sense and
Sensibility is a film that stays true to its original telling and critique of Victorian
society. It is a true glimpse into the world of women and their place in society during
this time period, while still championing love and loyalty to family. Communication
privacy management theory offers a detailed explanation for the place of gossip
communication amongst women and the upper class, while muted group theory
explains why there is a differentiation in this private women s sphere of influence
over the male dominated public in which the female protagonists are never seen
interacting

Social hierarchy is incredibly important as England had been a monarchy with a full
noble, gentry, commoner system in place for centuries, and Victorian England in
particular was at the height of its social repression of women and the poor. Sense and
Sensibility is keenly aware of this power disparity and the nobleman s world that
devalues women and pretty much everyone else who isn t a part of their group
(Sense). There is no way that a movie whose protagonists are women of no fortune
could not touch on muted groups. There are a few instances in the film that outright
call attention to this muteness, but first I want to overview in general terms to stress
how prevalent this theory is to the background of the story. One of the main ideas of
muted group theory is the distinction between the public and private sphere of men
and women and their language (Griffin, 461). This is extremely noticeable
throughout the film. In the confines of the house, women have their domain, they are
able to talk freely and about things considered improper or feminine by public
society. Most of the movie takes place within the private sphere, in homes, not just
because this is how the audience is going to learn the most about the characters, but
also because that is traditionally where the characters would be. Women are allowed
control of the home, its expenses, and to host parties or get togethers. They can voice
their opinion in private to their husbands (as Fanny shows multiple times) but in
public they are confined to talking about other things, like the weather or gossip

Artificial Reef Research Paper
OFFSHORE PLATFORM DECOMMISSIONING AND SOCIAL VALUES
Artificial reefs will be critical in evaluating social and ecological goals of
decommissioned platforms, the efficacy of any possible rigs to reefs programme in
present day and future presentation of artificial reef (Schroeder and Love 2004). As a
result, there is the likelihood that different stakeholder assembly will compete to
define the goal of decommissioning as artificial reefs (Techera and Chandler 2015).
Therefore, in this research, the host of participant perspectives concerning rigs to

been only in the Gulf of Mexico off the U.S. coastline, with more than 900
installations being completely removed or removed and used as artificial reefs (J.
Furney, The Fate of Offshore Rigs in the Gulf of Mexico, Petroleum Review 46
(1992): 237 240.). The U.S. as a party to the Continental Shelf Convention of 1958,
is stable with the programme that abandoned installations should be totally removed
in agreement with the prevailing global law as it applies to the U.S. (National
Research Council, Committee on Disposition of Offshore Platforms, Disposal of
Offshore Platforms.). Additionally, the North Sea is possibly the second hot spot
globally in terms of removal. Here, legislature, policy and practice are in severe
clash at the state level. For example, Netherlands, France have put in place strong
legal demand for total removal. Although Germany and Belgium are not parties to the
1958 Convention, they have enthusiastically argued in support of total removal in
line with Article 5(5). While the UK and Norway have tactically departed from their
responsibility of total removal (Fitzpatrick, Abandonment in the 1990s, 1 103.).

National Organization For Women Essay
It was time for women to take a stand for themselves and others. By creating a voice
women created an organization. The National Organization for Women established
hope for women who have been facing hate and violence throughout their lives. The
National Organization for Women was formed by a group of women who stood up
against discrimination, unfair treatment, and justice for all. With every protest and
every movement it is one step closer for women to achieve equal rights and equality
in America.
The founding of the National Organization for Women, included a group of feminist
women who established the National Organization for Women, also known as NOW.

Another major controversy that women are still facing is reproductive rights
(National Organization for Women, 2017).
Some women support the idea of sage and legal abortion. While others even support
the idea of birth control, even though it was conflicted about for many years. Citizens
in the United States protest and announce that women shouldn t abort a child that
hasn t been able to live it s life (National Organization for Women, 2017). The NOW
organization is opposed restriction thought legislation regulation (National
Organization for Women, 2017).
It s okay to defend for what you believe in. These courageous women took the stand
and fought for women s rights and equality for not just women but for all people (
Who We Are , 2017). The voice that NOW has spread across the globe is being
heard by women in poverty, abuse, and fear. So women still this day are making
peaceful protest for their rights. Also by marches which can be the most active and
most supported movement. With every march or stand it brings more supporters
and more voices for NOW ( Who We Are , 2017). This isn t battling over one issue, it

Essay on Disease Integumentary System
A Disease of the Integumentary System
September 28, 2011
Abstract
There are many diseases that affect the Integumentary system, due in some part to
the fact that it contains the largest organ in the human body, which is the skin. The
some of these diseases can be seen as rashes, dark spots, or just patches of itchy
areas. The disease that will be discussed in throughout this paper is called Alopecia
Areata. One will cover areas such as a description of the disease, as well as the
causes, signs and systems, diagnosis, treatments, and prognosis.
A Disease of the Integumentary System The Integumentary System plays an
extremely important role in the human body. Due to the fact, it is the body s first line

These tests consist of a biopsy, as well as, several blood tests to check to see if it
related to other autoimmune conditions. About one in five individuals that are
affected by this disease have a family history with this condition (Vorvick, Berman,
amp; Zieve, 2010). The following pictures allow one to see what this disease may
look like. (Vorvick, Berman, amp; Zieve, 2010)
When it comes to the treatments, if the hair loss is not widespread it may not be
needed because the hair is likely to regrow in a couple of months. But for more
severe cases, there are some treatments available even though it is not clear if these
will change the course of the condition (Vorvick, Berman, amp; Zieve, 2010). Some
of these typical therapies are steroid injections, such as Celestone, topical
minoxidil, corticosteroids, and immunotherapy, and ultraviolet light therapy
(Brannon, 2008). The prognosis for this disease turns out pretty well in most
cases, but can have a poorer outcome in some individuals, including those who get
it at an young age and those with Eczema (atopic dermatitis). In the most extreme
cases it could lead to more widespread of affected areas or complete loss of scalp
hair, know as Alopecia Totalis, and/or Alopecia Universalis which is the total loss of
scalp and body hair (Vorvick, Berman, amp; Zieve, 2010).

Elisa In The Chrysanthemums By John Steinbeck
In John Steinbeck s The Chrysanthemums, we are introduced to Elisa, an
intelligent, talented woman living on a ranch in the Salinas Valley with her
husband. She is thirty five years old with no children and no real human
interaction with anyone other than her husband, who is mostly dismissive of her in
all matters other than her gardening. The ranch is located in a remote area of the
Salinas Valley with no real neighbors to speak of. The story mostly consists of Elisa
s encounter with a traveling tinker man in search of work repairing kitchen utensils
and blades of all sorts. The encounter with the tinker man brings out a side of Elisa
that contradicts her everyday androgynous appearance and brings her desire to be
noticed as a womanto the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While working in her garden, the covered wagon of a traveling tinker man pulls
onto the ranch property. At first, Elisa stands her ground and refuses the man s
offers. After some observation, the tinker man realizes that there is a way to
connive his way into her world. He starts to talk with her about her gardening.
When he mentions her chrysanthemums, he has her full attention. He uses flattery
to engage her in conversation regarding something about which she is passionate.
She gets involved in describing the feeling with which she tends to her flowers and
begins to feel like someone in whom another man might be interested. She has
gone so long with no real interest from her husband and here is this man who
seems genuinely interested in what she does. He feigns an interest in the flowers
and even convinces her that he has a customer who would love to be able to grow
chrysanthemums as spectacular as hers. She loses herself in her description of how
to care for these flowers and, as a reader, one can sense the substitution these
flowers represent for the children that she does not have in her life. She gives this
man some of her sprouts to deliver to his customer and instructs him to tell the
alleged customer how to care for them. After this interaction, she feels renewed as a
woman. She has opened herself to feel desire and
Electroshock Therapy In The Bell Jar
In the 1950 s, there were many different types of medical treatments. They were
used to treat many different kinds of diseases. Some treatments also helped out with
depression. The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath shows how one particular type of treatment,
electro shock therapy, was used to help the main character, Esther, overcome her
depression. Sylvia Path s novel shows how electro shock was not very effective for
Esther and the other patients that received it. There were other treatments that could
have been done to help out Esther with her depression.Electroshock therapy (ECT) is

The neurotransmitters are the chemicals that transfer messages between brain cells

many risks that can be involved with ECT. The first risk, which is one of the rarest,
is death. The cause of death by using ECT is a combination of bad reactions to
anesthesia, pulmonary complications and cardiovascular complication (Risks and
Side Effects of ECT). Another side effect is dental and oral trauma. The author of
Risks and Side Effects of ECT, Lawrence Park states that a patient can have many
dental fractures, lacerations and dislocations. These are uncommon with ECT, but
they still can happen. Park then describes the next effect which is a more common
one: alterations in blood pressure. Hypertension and hypotension are associated with
ECT. The last effect of ECT is the most common one, which
Students Suffering From Mental Health
Mental health Introduction Surveys conducted this past year have shown that
95% of college campuses have shown a rise in students that suffer from a
significant psychological concern (Mistler, et.al. 2013). Why are so many college
students suffering from mental health nowadays? And how can we help these
students get better? These are questions that are very important to many colleges
across America. We need to find a solution to this problem and that if people work
together we could find a solution for many college campuses in Ohio. What if we
set up more counseling centers in colleges or what if we give out mandatory
mental health evaluation sheets? How can we come to this solution? These are all
questions that were carried out in various situations in Warren Berger s A More
Beautiful Question in the reading it talks about how you should question what
happens and if you see a problem do, something to fix it (Berger). Mental health is
a very important concern, that should be more of a concern to college campuses all
around Ohio. Problem Statement Everybody knows that your health is an important
thing to maintain. You go to the doctors to get checkups and if you get sick you go
and get checked out. That is usually the case for your physical health but what about
your mental health? Not everyone gets that in check and a lot of people suffer from
mental problems mainly college freshman. According to the National Alliance on

My Role Model Of My Life Essay
Introduction I have been asked many times since I was a young boy what I would
like to be in life, however, I was never able to explore or express my interests. As
time has passed the question still remains, yet I am much closer to my answer.
With help from the career research assignment, presented during my GEL class, I
have been able to research this very question. Before this assignment I pondered
countless ideas of what my future profession would be like, but I never went into
detail; and never investigated how it would effect my overall quality of life. My
future can only be shaped by what I choose to be. I want my life to be meaningful,
and the only way I could accomplish this goal would be to positively affect other
peoples livelihood . My personality traits and personal desires have prove to me that I
would make a great leader. However, who do I want to lead? And how could I make a
positive influence in the world? My dad is a standing role model in my life for he
bravely serves as a Fire captain for Los Angeles County Fire Department. He has
shown me a great deal within his field and I decided that a career in the medical
profession would suit me well. Although my aspirations are not to become a Doctor,
I would like to contribute my leadership ability to the medical profession by pursuing
a career in healthcare management. Ultimately, my goal is to become a executive
within a hospital in order to use my skills for the greater good. Moreover, I realize

Cellular Respiration Process
Cellular Respiration is the combination of metabolic cells and processes that occur
within the organisms cells. This process coverts biochemical energy into ATP and
results in the removal of waste products. There are four main steps of Cellular
Respiration. Glycolysis, Transport Reaction, Citric Acid Cycle and Oxidative
Phosphorylation. These processes and or steps involved in cellular respirationare
known as catabolic reactions. These reactions are important because they are what
cause the larger molecules to break down into smaller molecules releasing energy
that is necessary in order to carry out the rest of the process. The overall goal of
cellular respiration is to make ATP from the food that we consume. The Ending step
of cellular respiration that is responsible for this is Oxidative... Show more content on

The interference in Oxidative Phosphorylation is know as uncoupling . DNP causes
protons to be pumped across the gradient interfering with the pathway of hydrogen in
the final energy production. This completely interferes with the process of creating
ATP because the leak of protons is increasing. When this happens, Potential energy is
transformed into heat instead of ATP (Grundlingh et al. 2011). When the process of
creating ATP fails, the body must compensate in other ways. To fulfill this,
metabolism increases and speeds up to create energy needed. By doing this, fat and
carbohydrates are broken down and being converted to energy. As this happens, more
fat is being burned and more heat is being produced and causes weight loss due to the
heat being more abundant (Cotton 2015). Throughout this uncoupled inference,
Hypothermia is the result. Hypothermia is when the body is over heated and reaches
an unsubstantial temperature. This is known as the failure of Thermoregulatory
homeostasis. DNP is creating too much heat causing this reaction (Grundlingh et al.
How To Switch Roles In Johann Sebastian Bach
The sixteenth notes in the red box acts as a junction into having the two soloists
switch roles and gives the intro to the second theme a lot of suspended and
anticipated notes in the sequence. Moreover, the blue box in figure 7.1 represents
the exact same lyrical line in figure 5.2 except this time the roles are now switched;
the first violinsolo showcase the moving sixteenth notes first, followed by a group of
eighth notes with the second violin solo, then the second violin solo repeats the
sixteenth notes ascending and ends the bar with the two soloists together with eighth
notes just like the previous figure. As a continuation of using repetition, Bach goes
as far as to have the soloists in the second theme the measures after the group of
simultaneous eighth notes switch roles again and have the second violin solo start
the theme and have the first violin solo follow as a sort of echo effect.

What Happened In Luvungi Summary
Background
Interestingly, in 2013 Laura Heaton questioned the narrative of violence against
women in her article about the mass rape in Luvungi. Heaton s article for Foreign

eighty seven women were truly raped during a rebel attack in Luvungi. Heaton
discusses the high statistics of rape in Eastern Congo. The New York Times reported
Congo population at approximately 70 million people, and 1.8 million women were
raped in the whole state. Additionally, in one year period 438,785 Congolese
women were raped. Gettleman, Jeffery. Congo Study Sets Estimates for Rapes

The Impact Of ISS Adequacy
It is found that an alternate way to deal with measuring ISS adequacy was produced
by Crossler, et al (2013) to upgrade the execution of information system within the

and counteractive action played on ISS adequacy. Their exploration noted that ISS
viability was emphatically identified with obstruction and preventive endeavours,
both segments of GDT. Moreover, the ISS adequacy develop is utilised as a part of

Furthermore, the ISS adequacy develops is an appraisal of the riskmanagement

Iroquois Confederacy
IROQUOIS CONFEDERACY
by Loretta Hall
OVERVIEW
The Iroquois Confederacy, an association of six linguistically related tribes in the
northeastern woodlands, was a sophisticated society of some 5,500 people when the
first white explorers encountered it at the beginning of the seventeenth century. The
1990 Census counted 49,038 Iroquois living in the United States, making them the
country s eighth most populous Native American group. Although Iroquoian tribes
own seven reservations in New York state and one in Wisconsin, the majority of the
people live off the reservations. An additional 5,000 Iroquois reside in Canada,
where there are two Iroquoian reservations. The people are not averse to adopting
new technology when it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During that period, the Iroquois began to acquire European trade goods through raids
on other Indian tribes. They found the metal axes, knives, hoes, and kettles far
superior to their implements of stone, bone, shell, and wood. Woven cloth began to
replace the animal skins usually used for clothing materials.
The recurring raids prompted the French to help their Indian allies attack the
Iroquois in 1609, opening a new technological era for the people of the Confederacy.
French body armor was made of metal, whereas that of the Iroquois was made of
slatted wood. Furthermore, the French fought with firearms, while traditional
Iroquois weapons were bows and arrows, stone tomahawks, and wooden warclubs.
In response to European influence, the Iroquois gradually changed their military
tactics to incorporate stealth, surprise, and ambush. Their motives for fighting also
changed. In the past, they had fought for prestige or revenge, or to obtain goods or
captives; now they fought for economic advantage, seeking control over bountiful
beaver hunting grounds or perhaps a stash of beaver skins to trade for European
goods.
Although it provided the Indians with better tools, European incursion into the
territory was disastrous for the indigenous people. In the 1690s alone, the Iroquois
lost between 1,600 and 2,000 people in fighting with other Indian tribes. In addition,
European diseases such as smallpox, measles, influenza, lung infections,

Things done well
During the presentation there were examples provided from the textbook to allow
the trainees to capture what was being presented and said. This allowed for them
to see what was being taught. It was also helpful that there were examples provided
during the presentation to allow for a real life experiences in the workforce,
making everything more relatable to each individual in its own unique way. There
were also instances where trainees were asked questions and to engage them
throughout the process of training. This would allow them to constantly think,
especially when there were pop quizzes throughout. Trainees were also able to ask
questions during the entire presentation, allowing for people to have their answers
answered at any point. In order for this to succeed we had to prepare beforehand so
that the questions would be answered as effectively and as clearly as they could.
Having handouts that had the slides with room to write notes on the side allowed the
audience to make notes and to write ideas. We also provide quizzes that were
interactive throughout the presentation on the slides. This allowed us to ask the
question, and afterwards there were animations that showed the audience which
answer was the right one. It was a little bit of a learning curve, but it was done clearly
and effectively after some research had been performed. By implanting new ideas into
presentations, it not only allows the presenters to learn something new, but it also
Saying Goodbye To A Teacher
Saying goodbye to a my choir teacher They say people never know how important
something is, until it s gone. When I said goodbye to my choir teacher, it opened
my eyes to how influential she was. Jami Lercher pursued the job of my choir
teacher freshman and sophomore year at Roseville Area High School. She played a
significant role in my life as my mentor and a great friend. She also invited me to
join her outside of schoolchoir, VOX and we grew even closer through that
experience. Everywhere she went, merriment and exhilaration followed her. She
assisted me with the ability to read notes and read music. Unfortunately, the jubilance
of the choir department would come to a halt. Mrs. Lercher received the opportunity
of a lifetime and was accepted into the university of MiamiFlorida to pursue her
doctorate degree. She would depart from RAHS, taking that merriment and
exhilaration with her to Miami that she had constructed for the choir department. The
choir students were grieving, but we supported her decision and knew that this
would aid her immensely when she would come back to teach. The night I said
goodbye to Mrs. Lercher was a night of waterworks, compliments and the hardships
of expressing our goodbyes.
That night my choir, Bel Canto, just finished our final concert of the year, making
the waterworks pump double of what they should. The crowd roared when we
finished our final song called Sail Away . The compliments flowing from the
audience s mouths about how
Information Technology And The World Wide Web Creating
New...
1. Are information technology and the World Wide Web creating new bases for
power and domination?
There are various levels of domination that are associated with technology. For
instance, employers can use this to create businesses opportunities that span the
world. Jobs can be outsourced allowing for one nation to profit without paying or
supplying their workers with fair wages or safe work environment according to
their federal guidelines. They can profit off cheap labor and unethical standards
without repercussions at the same time workers are being controlled by their
employers and can be overseen in a more rigorous way to regulate and ensure
productivity. There is also the issue of accessibility many employers can infringe on
the privacy of their employees. In addition, development in technology have allowed
contemporary corporations to expand their monitoring power and control over their
employees page 107 Social Inequality. The use of cellphone and computers can
enable employers to have access to workers beyond the workplace. Technology has
broken down the traditional divide between work and home, the public and the
private spheres (pg. 107 Social Inequality).
Is it the corporate rich who will claim these bases or are new, powerful groups being
created by these technological developments?
Power relationships are shaped by people s mental biases and beliefs about
individuals in other groups (pg. 108 Social Inequality). Despite the creation of new
groups,

Module 1 Case Assignment, Why does E Bay have problems in its Asian Markets?
Course Number: International Business 401
Dr. Fadia Alkhalil
February 15, 2011
Abstract This paper will identify some of the reasons why E Bay has problems in the
Asian Markets as an internet auction provider. After examining articles from Philip
Kotler and David Gertner as well as Moon Ihlwan among others, this paper will
provide my answers about why did EBay want to expand globally as well as why
any of these Asian nations wanted their business? It will explain some research
explored about what types of Entry decisions the company used in the Asian Markets.

Then Gmarket s computer picks two bids at random to decide the winners. Others
visitors can buy the MP3 player at a special offer price. The seller attracts consumers,
while Gmarket happily hauls in commissions. Another incentive at Gmarket is that
retailers can offer online links to their own mini homepages within the site, issue
discount coupons, run joint mileage points programs, and use an internal messenger
service called G messenger for instant chatting with sellers. Some shops listed on the
site have also drawn traffic by promising to donate 10 cents to a favored charity
every time a product is sold... 2 Thus far EBay has attempted joint ventures and
mergers to enter the Asian market share and has met negative results. This has had a
negative effect on their overall performance to expense ratio in their stock valuation
from 2000 thru the present time but has not deterred management from continuing to
compete for a market share in Asia. An ongoing joint venture with Yahoo keeps EBay
with a foot in the door of the foreign market and continues the strategic alliance

Singapore, Malaysia and through operations in the Philippines. Currently they are

Outline Of Major Depressive Disorder

Diagnostic Handbook

The disorder I will be focusing on is Major Depressive Disorder. Major Depressive
Disorder, also known as major depression, has been a continuing health problem for
human beings throughout the course of history. According to documents written by
philosophers, healers and other writers, depression has had a deep rooted existence
dating as far back as the second millennium B.C. At this time, Major Depressive
Disorder was referred to as melancholia. The earliest documentation of melancholia
appeared in the ancient texts of the Mesopotamian population. It was then believed
that all mental illness was a result of demonic possession and could only be healed by
the power of a priest. It was not until much later that the first historical understanding
of depression as a spiritual or mental illness was recorded. According to historical
documentation, populations such as the ancient Greeks, Romans, Chinese and
Egyptian civilizations had controversial thinking about the causes of melancholia, or
depression. The Chinese and Egyptian cultures believed that their mentally ill were
possessed by demons and practiced exorcism techniques such as beatings, restraint
and starvation. Unlike the Chinese and Egyptians, the Romans and Greeks
contributed mental illness and depression to biological and psychological disease.

Breweries In America
This Beer is my Beer
According to this article, the traveler explains the different breweries in America.
Also, he said it was hard, where to begin consuming beer. Each region of the
country has its own beer style, where you can taste different types and flavors of
beers. There are a number of distinct and diverse beer regional styles, for example
(The New England IPA, the Southern Saison, the Great Lakes gose, the Rocky
Mountain lager, the Cascadian fruited sour, the southwestern scotch, and the SoCal

Capitalism is one of the branches that is related to this Article, it means the
production and distributions of goods, beers are produced by manufactured
industries. First, farmers cultivate the ingredients that are necessary to produce
their beer, then farmers distribute their crops to different brewers companies to
produce their beer. After producing their beer, companies distribute their beer to all
brewer stores, markets, and liquor stores, so they could sell the beer to the
consumers. Labors are another example, that economics is related to this article,
their skills are essential to the production of goods, also labors are responsible in
the production of these goods because they spend hours working hard and using

The Pros And Cons Of Modular Homes
The popularity of Modular homes is on the rise. According to Global Industry
Analysts Inc., shipping of modular houses in the U.S. is expected to hit 112,000 units
next year. As more people embrace modular housing, understanding how to buy a
modular home is becoming increasingly necessary. It is no surprise that many people
are choosing modular homes instead of the conventionally built ones. Modular
homes, also referred to as prefabricated (prefab) homes are typically relatively
inexpensive and environmentally friendly. In addition, most of them have sleek and
modern designs. The main difference between modular homes and the conventionally
built ones is the fact that modular homes are built in parts in a factory and then

Therefore, you must understand the laws in your state that govern prefab housing
projects before you get started. All the same, here are common pros and cons of
modular homes. Pros of modular homes Cost effectiveness Regardless of how
much anyone has in the bank, we all do everything we can to get the best bargains
when buying a new home. We aim to do so without ending up with a hovel for a
home. This is what makes modular homes such an attractive option for so many
people. Because modular homes are constructed in factories and in bulk,
manufacturers are able to source raw materials at reduced prices. This reduction in
the cost of materials translates to lower retail prices for the modules with which you
will construct your home. Construction delays caused by the unpredictability of the
weather is another reason why modular homes are often less expensive compared to
site built homes. Moreover, the builder does not have to deal with the potential theft
of materials in the course of the building process. Quick
Rachel Carson An Environmental Activist
Those who dwell as scientist or laymen, among the beauties and mysteries of the
earth are never alone or weary of life. Rachel Carson Rachel Carson was born May
27, 1907 in Springdale, Pennsylvania. In 1929 Carson graduated from Pennsylvania
College for Women where she studied marine biology. In 1932 she received a
master s degree in zoology from Johns Hopkins University. She worked for the
Bureau of Fisheries to writing radio scripts and she wrote articles on natural
history for the Baltimore Sun. After that in 1936 she worked for 15 years in the
federal service as a scientist and editor in chief for the U.S. fish and wildlife
service (Linda Lear). Not only was Carson an environmental activist, she was a
writer, a poet and she was family oriented. In 1953 Carson put her life on hold to
support her mother and her sister s two daughters that were orphans
(biography.com). When going back to support her mother in Southport Island,
Maine, Carson made a friend named Dorothy Freeman that would last the rest of
her life. They had a very close friendship that some described as a romantic

Different Types Of Cultures When The Class First Began
Reflection Paper This paper stands to explore my initial perspective on different
types of cultures when the class first began. It will include a detailed explanation
of a couple of activities that not only challenged but impacted my perspective on
culture, as well as how that perspective changed as a result of those activities. I also
plan to talk about how my new understandings of these cultures can impact my
future as far as thinking and behavior. And I will provide explanations as to how
my new understandings can be applied outside of class, and how they can add
value to my personal, professional, and academic life. My initial perspective of
culture was basically that culture is what makes up a person s entire way of life,
and like I stated in my first paper on culture, it is difficult to identify all the specific
differences, mostly because you re not a part of that culture, but even being
relatively the same, they all differ greatly. My thoughts stayed pretty much the
same throughout the semester, despite all of the research we ve done on different
gangs, cultures, and religions, I don t believe any one group is better than another.
I think we re all better because of each other. One particular instance that challenged
my perspective on culture was during an informal activity in class and my professor
and I got in the small argument about whether or not Jewish people we re a race or
religion. It really tested me because I had been taught one way, and she contradicted
Community Reflection Paper
I recently had the privilege of spending a week with a community called Furaha
Community Center that provides education, social services, and community action
efforts within a slum community called Haruma located in Nairobi, Kenya. The
community of Haruma has roughly 500,000 people living in the equivalent of 12
square blocks. The communitysuffers from poor sanitation, rampant disease, and
violence. Furaha Community Center serves the poorest and the sickest of the
community in efforts to provide food, education, micro loans, and social services.
The community is defined by some outsiders as poor, sick, dirty, lazy, disease
ridden, gang infested, violent, sexually deviant, uneducated (education is not free
in Kenya so many families cannot afford to send their children to school) and
beyond hope. Although some of these descriptors are partially true, I found the
community to be generous, supportive, hard working, resilient, and joyful. To live
in Haruma and be a member of the community you have a difficult life. Tribal
hierarchy defines your ability to obtain opportunities to better yourself. Religion is a
source of comfort, but is also used by some religious leaders as a way gain power and
influence over the desperate. Most people work as day laborers and live day to day.
They often do not eat every day because they cannot find work. Fires, building
collapses, gang activity, and violence are a part of everyday life. Diseases spread
rapidly while no medical care
A Energy Source For The State Of Florida
Purpose
The purpose of this report is to inform you of a suitable energy source to meet the
projected demands of the state of Florida for the next ten years. I recommend a
hybrid plant that uses both solar energy and natural gas. I am certain that a hybrid
plant is the most suitable energy source for the State of Florida for the next 10 years.
Statistics
Florida s Statistics
Florida Public Service Commission reports that as of 2014, natural gas generates
58.89%, or the majority of Florida s energy (2). Coal is the second most prevalent
type of energy generation in Florida, according to Florida Public Service
Commission, generating 21.33% of the state s energy (2). Nuclear power generates
12.43% of Florida s energy (Florida Public Service Commission 2). Energy
generation by oil and renewable fuel types are nearly nonexistent, together these
sources only generate 1.6% of Florida s energy (Florida Public Service Commission
2). Finally, according to the Florida Public Service Commission, other sources only
generate 5.75% of the state s energy (2).
Florida Public Service Commission forecasts from current trends that by 2024 the
use of environmentally harmful energy sources such as coal, nuclear power, and
oil will decrease (2). The use of natural gas is forecasted to rise to generate 64.73% of
Florida s energy (Florida Public Service Commission, 2). According to the forecast
by Florida Public Service Commission, the use of other sources to generate energy

Furthermore, she said that at times she had poor coping skills and often used
marijuana to cope with her feelings.
After the assessment was completed, the staff and I had an opportunity to discuss
her intake. Based on the information that was given we were able to identify the
systems that played a role in her coming into the group. We also were able to
establish rapport her by introducing her to some of the other clients who also
identified as male in the group setting. By creating that support system within the
group, she was able to feel more comfortable with staff members and other clients.
Furthermore, the staff was also able to speak with her about her substance abuse
issues. By evaluating substance abuse problems and addressing the motivation for
change. Referrals for substance abuse counseling are given in the hopes that the
clients will seek additional treatment.
Phase II
At the agency part of the group, the process is gaining education about a different
topic such as; sexual health, HIV/AIDS/ coping skills, mental health awareness
and boundaries. The clients that attend these groups are voluntary and don t always
come to sessions every week. Therefore we have to prioritize goals into general
tasks and select and implement interventions on a case by case basis or at times in a
general group setting. One example that I witness was a young boy who was
Revolution in France in 1789 Essay
Revolution in France in 1789 The causes of the revolution in France can be divided
it to long term causes and short term causes. The main long term cause was the way
in which the country was run. The ancien regime was the period in France before the
revolution of 1789. There was royal despotism, heavy taxes, the parlements had no
real power and the church was also exploiting the peasants. The main short term
causes were the American war of Independence, the financial crisis in France and the
unwillingness for the King and church to change. During the ancien regime the
country was divided into estates. The first estate was the clergy, the second estate
were the nobles and the third were... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They new that they had no real power, and they also knew that the King was an
absolutist ruler. This combined with the enlightenment , which was produced by
the Philosophers like Rousseau, may have been considered to form the base of a
revolution, but it would have never flourished without other factors. Many
members of the nobility also held seats in Parlements, which were up for sale. This
resulted in the important seats on the councils not being filled by people that are
competent, but by people that have enough to please the monarch and their
extravagant lives. The third estate made up approximately 98% of France. Most of
them were peasants, working on increasing small pieces of land that they rented
from their lord from an extortionate amount of money, or they worked in the
factories in the cities, were the working and living conditions were atrocious.
Although in the present day state of mind, were it is uncommon for somebody not
to be educated, it is hard to realise that these people were contempt in life. As I
explained earlier, the 1st estate had extreme power over the 3rd estate. The Peasants
went to church and believed that there current life was insignificant as long as they
obeyed God and were guaranteed a place in heaven. The peasants were also very
badly educated and the ideas of the philosophers were
The Hershey Company ( Hsy )
Introduction: As said by key (2015), The Hershey Company (HSY) is the largest
producer of quality chocolate in North America. It is a global leader in chocolate,
sugar confectionery, and chocolate related grocery products, operating under 80
brands in 70 countries worldwide. The US confectionery market consists of gums,
chocolates and sugar confectionery and the largest segment prior to this market in
2013 was the chocolate segment. The main players in this market are Hersheys,
Mars and Nestle with Hershey s leading the market (31.2%) followed by Mars
(29.2%) and Nestle (5.2%) in 2014. Price Rise: Hershey s, like every other chocolate

One case where the two companies opposed against eachother occured in april
2014. Mars blamed Hershey s for fooling the consumers with duplicate maltesers.
Mars claimed that Hershey s maltersers packaging was very similar to that of Mars
packaging due to which the customers were buying Hershey s maltesers hindering
the latter company s sales in the US. Hershey defended its stance by saying that it
has held the malteser trademark for more than 15 years in the US and demanded to
ban mars maltesers from US. Nevertheless, the two companies settled the matter
within themselves keeping the further details confidential. Similarly, there was
another case in 2007 that took place in Canada of an anti competitive behavior
between Hershey s, Mars and Nestle of price fixing. Mars and Nestle pledged to give
evidences of them not being involved in this conspiracy. Whereas, Hershey Canada
defended itself by saying that: it had promptly reported the conduct to the
Competition Bureau, cooperated fully with its investigation and did not implement
the planned price increase that was the subject of the 2007 communications.
Therefore an article published by Flavelle in 2015 reported that after the eight years
of investigation, the matter was finally closed and there were no charges against the
three companies. This implies that the two

What Is The Results Of The ILP To Real Games
How we transformed the statistics on the NBA website to the data required for our
calculations can be found in Appendix t1.1 (for the maximum of all NBA teams)
and t1.2 (for specific NBA teams). The specific data used in the ILP s are in
Appendix t1.3.
To compare the results of the ILP to real games, we used statistics from the Golden
State Warriors, the Dallas Mavericks, the Indiana Pacers, the Cleveland Cavaliers,
and the Los Angeles Lakers highest scoring game of the 2016 2017 season. This
data is available on the NBA website under Stats filtered by Box Scores , dates, and

(2) Comparing the results of our ILP compare to real life: Our ILP produces
objective values close to but slightly lower than the maximum number of points
scored in one game for all five teams. A table of these results can be found in
Appendix t1.5. The low objective values can most likely be attributed to the
volatility of the $c_{i,j}$ variables, which are based off of the teams average 2
point and 3 point shot percentages. It is reasonable to assume that the teams had
higher 2 point and 3 point percentages than average in the game where they scored
the most points, accounting for the higher total points scored compared to the ILP.
This is discussed further in section 6 (Obstacles Encountered So Far). Comparing
the $x_{i,j}$ used to obtain the objective value for the ILP for a selected team and
the actual number of iPA per quarter j from the highest scoring game for the same
team in the 2016 2017 season shows that the Golden State Warriors, who had the
highest average number of points per game last season, followed a fairly similar
game plan to that calculated by the ILP (r1.1). Graphs showing this are found in
Appendix g1.1 1.3. On the other hand, the Dallas

The colors used in the enamel are light blue as its main background that
symbolizes the sky, dark blue, yellow, dark green, light green, red and white. Every
shape has a thin golden outline, which explains the unique and non industrialized
manufacturing process. The fluid patterns seem to be filling up the space in a non
systematic nor a symmetrical way to reflect the natural behaviors of the plants.
There are no composition or main point of focus. Thus, the patterns are there to
create the surface rather than to illustrate a story. The empty areas such as the legs
of the tripod are filled with curved vine patterns. The curling vines overlap each
other, creating a sense of dimension and space on a flat surface. The leaf texture and
lines make the vines recognizable. Moreover, the absence of the leaf on the middle
section of the lid shows that the curls on the lid are clouds intertwining with smaller
dragons that are hidden. This style reminisces the art of Zhou where interlacing
animals formed intricate patterns. Coincidentally, this is where the smoke or the
cloud of the incense will flow through. This censer portrays the commonly displayed
theme of journey to heaven, as it is embodied by the elements of the plants on Earth
and the clouds from heaven. The use of Leiwen patterns in the vines and clouds
throughout the object helps unify the different
Argumentative Essay On Nuclear Energy
Nuclear energy has been used since 1895 to create weapons that could destroy men
by the millions. Scientists later transformed this destructive weapon into a new form
of usable, renewable energy. Nuclear energy is energy created by harnessing the
energy produced by the nuclear reactions that take place inside the nucleus of the
UraniumIsotope 235, ( Nuclear Energy ). Nuclear energy is one attempt to decrease
the rate at which nonrenewable fossil fuels are being consumed. Some believe
nuclear energy to be an environmentally friendly and self sustaining way to produce
energy; however, there are a countless number of social and economically risks to
consider; ultimately, the detrimental effects power plant leaks and explosions have
on the human body, the cost it takes to produce the plants, and the production of
nuclear waste, should be enough to persuade one to turn away from using nuclear
energy as a source of power.
The fear of a nuclear power plants is reasonable, considering there were thirty three
accidents between the 1950 s and early 2000 s, (McInnes, Colin). Multiple incidents
jeopardized the health of employees and near by citizens. Six of these incidents
happened in the United States, five in Japan, and three in the United Kingdom and
Russia. Thirty five liters of highly enriched Uranium solution leaked during transfer,

stories of the individuals who sought to create a new global currency. Journalist

The crisis had exposed many of the shortcomings in the existing financial and
political systems, creating a large desire for alternatives (Popper IV). Many saw
Bitcoin as the answer as it was free of any sort of central government. Although not
specifically stated in the book, there are many pros and cons I personally saw in
using Bitcoins as a form of currency. Similar to gold, a major problem that bitcoin
has as a currency is the fact that it there is a finite limit to it as mentioned above.
This creates numerous issues compared to fiat money. For example, if the currency
is saved in large quantities, thus removing it from use, this will then make
individual Bitcoins more valuable, as they become scarcer. This will then cause
deflation, as you can buy more with less, incentivizing people to hold on to bitcoins
more, as they will be worth more in the future. This will continue to propel itself
until the Bitcoins will effectively become useless as people lose faith in the
currency. This is where typically fiat money triumphs, as governments have the
ability to push money into the economy in order to continue growth and combat the
risk of deflation. Another huge issue, as stated in the book, with Bitcoins as a
currency, is at its current stage it is not widely used. Thus, is highly volatile, and

Are you really looking at what your seeing? In Luis Valdez s short play Los
Vendidos, it is clear that there was a stereotyping issue as well as symbolism
throughout his play. I have analyzed his symbolic demonstrations on how
Mexicans are labeled and how stereotyping affects the way Americans view
Mexicans. In an article by an anonymous writer titled Los Vendidos , Luis Valdez:
Using stereotypes to end racism, there was a quote stating, Theater as a weapon ,
Valdez used theater as a weapon to attempt to highlight latino stereotypes and their
effects on society on those stereotypes. Valdez was the second born out of 10
brothers and sisters. At the age of six he began working in the fields with his
parents. Valdez began writing plays to express his lifestyle and his family s life style
when he was growing up. When he attending school he noticed that in all the school
book, only whites and Europeans were mentioned in the United States. Although
Hispanics are well... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sancho then brings out his new 1969 Johnny Pachuco model. Sancho describes him
as being built for speed, low riding, made for the city life (Valdez 1042). Miss
Jimenez asks what he does and Sancho tells her that he can do anything and
everything necessary for city life. For survival he can knife fight, sing, dance, Sancho
then mentions that he has a feature that no city model can be without; he gets
arrested, but not without resisting arrest of course (Valdez 1043). Miss Jimenez
comments that she cannot have any arrests she needs a model that can maintain law
and order. However she finds some interest when Sancho tells her that he speaks
English. Sancho snaps his finger and tells him to speak English but Johnny insults
her. When Miss Jimenez gets offended by what Johnny said to her Sancho tells her
that he learned such insults from the American schools, but that didn t seem to matter

Metaphors In The Book Of Revelations
When examining the Book of Revelation, one gets an impression God is
sympathetic towards the world because He shows the heavens in advance. He
demands someone to record what is happening so the rest of the world can
acknowledge what awaits them in the afterlife. Consequently, John who is invited to
Heaven is likewise the author of the Book and uses metaphors and simple ideas to
describe what he witnessed on that fateful day . The book of Revelations can be seen
as a journal entry of John s Heavenly visit which he writes in detail the actions and
conversation between everyone situated there. God explains to John in simple
language and uses metaphors to represent the important figures in Christian religion.
An example of such metaphors is
Mary Stuart Research Paper
A Hard Life Rewarded Mary Stuart, also known as Mary Queen of Scots, was one
of the most fascinating people in Europe during the sixteenth century. She was
born on December 8,1542. She was the daughter of James V of Scotland and Mary
of Guise. Mary, Queen of Scots, had a complicated life starting with an abnormal
childhood, having strong ties to three counties, and being imprisoned for most of
her life. Mary, had a peculiar childhood that consisted of things like gaining the
throne to rule a country at a young age and almost being killed. When Mary was
six days old her father died and so she became Queen of Scotland at a very young
age. Due to this at the age of six years old she was handed over to the King of
France. When Mary was eight a man named Robert Stuart and purported to be an
English spy was accused of attempting to poison Mary Stuart before her mother s
departure (marie stuart.co.uk). Addition to this complicated childhood Mary was
betrothed at a young age.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She was first queen of Scotland due to her father s death and her being the heir to
the throne. In 1548, she was sent to France to live with the French royal family.
She was betrothed to Francis II of France, and married him in 1558. Therefore,
when he was crowned King of France in 1559, she was made Queen of France.
After a reign of seventeen months Francis II died. This ended Mary s reign in
France. Soon she left France to go back to Scotland. A couple of years later she
married her first cousin, Henry Stuart. They both had strong claims to the English
throne and if they had an offspring their claims would be even stronger. With that
said they did have a son, James. Henry Stuart was killed mysteriously in 1567.
Mary was accused of being involved with his death, so she was imprisoned. While
in prison she was compelled to step down and give her position on the throne of
Scotland to her son. Her son then became King James VI of
Psychology Career Assignment
Career Assignment Getting a Job with a B.A. in Psychology
Ever since I was younger I want to be a police officer. However, my switch to
wanting to be an FBI agent happened after I discovered that I will be going to
college. Instead of just getting a degree and going to be police officer that I could
be without a degree, I decided to use my education for what was worth and to give

Personal Memoir Essay.pdf

  • 1. Personal Memoir Essay Crafting a personal memoir essay can be a challenging yet deeply rewarding endeavor. Delving into the realms of one's own life requires a delicate balance between self-reflection and objective storytelling. It demands the writer to navigate the labyrinth of memories, emotions, and experiences, carefully selecting and arranging them to create a cohesive and engaging narrative. The difficulty lies not only in the act of recollection but also in the art of introspection. Unraveling the threads of personal history can unearth a myriad of emotions, from joyous triumphs to painful setbacks. The challenge is to convey these sentiments authentically, allowing the reader to connect with the essence of the narrative on a visceral level. Moreover, there is the perpetual struggle to maintain a sense of objectivity. A personal memoir is not merely a chronological sequence of events; it is a reflection on the self, an exploration of personal growth and transformation. Striking the right balance between vulnerability and detachment can be akin to walking a tightrope, as too much emotion may overwhelm the narrative, while too much detachment may render it sterile. The art of storytelling itself adds another layer of complexity. A compelling memoir is not just a collection of facts; it is a story with a beginning, middle, and end. Crafting a narrative arc that captivates the reader while staying true to the realities of one's life is an intricate task that requires both skill and finesse. In essence, writing a personal memoir essay is a journey into the recesses of one's own identity. It demands a willingness to confront the past, a keen sense of self-awareness, and the ability to translate personal experiences into a narrative that resonates universally. Despite its challenges, the process can be cathartic, allowing the writer to gain insights into their own life while offering readers a glimpse into the shared human experience. For those seeking assistance or inspiration in the realm of personal memoirs or any other type of essay, a variety of resources are available. Similar essays, guidance, and more can be explored and ordered through platforms like HelpWriting.net, where experienced writers stand ready to assist in transforming personal stories into compelling narratives. • 2. The Lightning Thief Book And Movie Analysis Movies are Thieves A common goal of Hollywood productions is to attract a vast audience. In order to earn mass profits from their movies, directors will change any storyline to create an easy to follow, action filled success. The Lightning Thief novel, written by Rick Riordan, and The Lightning Thief motion picture provide excellent examples of how books are morphed into classic, money making attractions. Even though The Lightning Thief book and movie both share main characters and settings, the book expresses more detail and educates the audience while the movie focuses more on action and convenience, allowing for more errors between plots. Action is one of many differences found between the book and the motion picture. The entire plot of the movie revolves around finding and fighting for the pearls of Persephone, but in the book, Percy, the main character, receives the pearls as a gift on behalf of his father for use in a time of trouble. The settings and opponents faced by Percy and his companions, Annabeth and Grover, are the same: Medusa at the Emporium, Hydra at the Parthenon replica, and the Lotus eaters at the casino. However, the reward for winning in the book is survival, not a pearl as portrayed in the movie. Another example is the scene involving Hades Minotaur. Percy is not an experienced fighter at the beginning of the book; therefore, Percy faints after taking one of the Minotaur s horns. The movie illustrates Percy as a potentially skilled hero in
  • 3. Strategic Issues the Association Should Address Essay TO:APSA Council RE:Council Discussion Topic: Organized Sections This overview is designed to help launch a Council small group discussion about journals, and about strategic issues the Association may wish to address. The memo notes salient issues the Association is or will soon face. The themes included here are surely not complete and the goal is for a discussion that helps ferret out or sharpen heretofore unarticulated issues as well as the ones we see now. I.Introduction APSA Organized Sections have been a mainstay of the Associationsince first formed in the early 1980 s. There has not been a comprehensive review of Sections and the ways in which the prominence of Sections has shaped the Association since then, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This increases the total cost of APSA membership commensurately, especially consequential if a member seeks to join multiple sections. We worry this may discourage multiple section membership, diminish opportunity for cross fertilization among fields; and create sticker shock for APSA membership in general. At the same time, there may be potential value for the Association of being aligned with a bundle of journal content organized across topical areas a kind of journal based analogue to the annual meeting division structure. As a specific matter, APSA has the opportunity help the State Politics and Policy Organized Section purchase its journal from the university press that now owns it, by lending the Section money with payback revenues over 10 years. Assuming the business deal made sense, would such a step make sense from the standpoint of an Association wide journals policy. APSA might seek to bring Section journals more under the Association umbrella itself and applying journal guidelines, unbundling subscriptions from Section membership (while leaving editorial control with the Sections.) C.Governance and Liabilities APSA s Organized Sections operate under the Association s Tax ID number, and legally are elements of APSA as a corporation. A few APSA sections engage in outside activities such as separate conferences. Generally, these are handled entirely by section members
  • 4. Muted Group Theory Essay Muted Group Theory and Communication Privacy Management Theory in Sense and Sensibility Based on the beloved Jane Austen novel of the same name, Sense and Sensibility is a film that stays true to its original telling and critique of Victorian society. It is a true glimpse into the world of women and their place in society during this time period, while still championing love and loyalty to family. Communication privacy management theory offers a detailed explanation for the place of gossip communication amongst women and the upper class, while muted group theory explains why there is a differentiation in this private women s sphere of influence over the male dominated public in which the female protagonists are never seen interacting Explanation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Social hierarchy is incredibly important as England had been a monarchy with a full noble, gentry, commoner system in place for centuries, and Victorian England in particular was at the height of its social repression of women and the poor. Sense and Sensibility is keenly aware of this power disparity and the nobleman s world that devalues women and pretty much everyone else who isn t a part of their group (Sense). There is no way that a movie whose protagonists are women of no fortune could not touch on muted groups. There are a few instances in the film that outright call attention to this muteness, but first I want to overview in general terms to stress how prevalent this theory is to the background of the story. One of the main ideas of muted group theory is the distinction between the public and private sphere of men and women and their language (Griffin, 461). This is extremely noticeable throughout the film. In the confines of the house, women have their domain, they are able to talk freely and about things considered improper or feminine by public society. Most of the movie takes place within the private sphere, in homes, not just because this is how the audience is going to learn the most about the characters, but also because that is traditionally where the characters would be. Women are allowed control of the home, its expenses, and to host parties or get togethers. They can voice their opinion in private to their husbands (as Fanny shows multiple times) but in public they are confined to talking about other things, like the weather or gossip

These reactions are important because they are what cause the larger molecules to break down into smaller molecules releasing energy that is necessary in order to carry out the rest of the process. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The interference in Oxidative Phosphorylation is know as uncoupling . DNP causes protons to be pumped across the gradient interfering with the pathway of hydrogen in the final energy production. This completely interferes with the process of creating ATP because the leak of protons is increasing. When this happens, Potential energy is transformed into heat instead of ATP (Grundlingh et al. 2011). When the process of creating ATP fails, the body must compensate in other ways. To fulfill this, metabolism increases and speeds up to create energy needed. By doing this, fat and carbohydrates are broken down and being converted to energy. As this happens, more fat is being burned and more heat is being produced and causes weight loss due to the heat being more abundant (Cotton 2015). Throughout this uncoupled inference, Hypothermia is the result. Hypothermia is when the body is over heated and reaches an unsubstantial temperature. This is known as the failure of Thermoregulatory homeostasis. DNP is creating too much heat causing this reaction (Grundlingh et al.

They found the metal axes, knives, hoes, and kettles far superior to their implements of stone, bone, shell, and wood. The recurring raids prompted the French to help their Indian allies attack the Iroquois in 1609, opening a new technological era for the people of the Confederacy. French body armor was made of metal, whereas that of the Iroquois was made of slatted wood. Furthermore, the French fought with firearms, while traditional Iroquois weapons were bows and arrows, stone tomahawks, and wooden warclubs. • 26. The Pros And Cons Of Modular Homes The popularity of Modular homes is on the rise. According to Global Industry Analysts Inc., shipping of modular houses in the U.S. is expected to hit 112,000 units next year. As more people embrace modular housing, understanding how to buy a modular home is becoming increasingly necessary. It is no surprise that many people are choosing modular homes instead of the conventionally built ones. Modular homes, also referred to as prefabricated (prefab) homes are typically relatively inexpensive and environmentally friendly. In addition, most of them have sleek and modern designs. The main difference between modular homes and the conventionally built ones is the fact that modular homes are built in parts in a factory and then transported to the intended location where it... All the same, here are common pros and cons of modular homes. Pros of modular homes Cost effectiveness Regardless of how much anyone has in the bank, we all do everything we can to get the best bargains when buying a new home. We aim to do so without ending up with a hovel for a home. This is what makes modular homes such an attractive option for so many people. Because modular homes are constructed in factories and in bulk, manufacturers are able to source raw materials at reduced prices. This reduction in the cost of materials translates to lower retail prices for the modules with which you will construct your home. Construction delays caused by the unpredictability of the weather is another reason why modular homes are often less expensive compared to site built homes. Moreover, the builder does not have to deal with the potential theft of materials in the course of the building process. Quick

It will include a detailed explanation of a couple of activities that not only challenged but impacted my perspective on culture, as well as how that perspective changed as a result of those activities. I also plan to talk about how my new understandings of these cultures can impact my future as far as thinking and behavior. And I will provide explanations as to how my new understandings can be applied outside of class, and how they can add value to my personal, professional, and academic life. My initial perspective of culture was basically that culture is what makes up a person s entire way of life, and like I stated in my first paper on culture, it is difficult to identify all the specific differences, mostly because you re not a part of that culture, but even being relatively the same, they all differ greatly. My thoughts stayed pretty much the same throughout the semester, despite all of the research we ve done on different gangs, cultures, and religions, I don t believe any one group is better than another. I think we re all better because of each other. One particular instance that challenged my perspective on culture was during an informal activity in class and my professor and I got in the small argument about whether or not Jewish people we re a race or religion. It really tested me because I had been taught one way, and she contradicted
  • 29. Community Reflection Paper I recently had the privilege of spending a week with a community called Furaha Community Center that provides education, social services, and community action efforts within a slum community called Haruma located in Nairobi, Kenya. The community of Haruma has roughly 500,000 people living in the equivalent of 12 square blocks. The communitysuffers from poor sanitation, rampant disease, and violence. Furaha Community Center serves the poorest and the sickest of the community in efforts to provide food, education, micro loans, and social services. The community is defined by some outsiders as poor, sick, dirty, lazy, disease ridden, gang infested, violent, sexually deviant, uneducated (education is not free in Kenya so many families cannot afford to send their children to school) and beyond hope. Although some of these descriptors are partially true, I found the community to be generous, supportive, hard working, resilient, and joyful. To live in Haruma and be a member of the community you have a difficult life. Tribal hierarchy defines your ability to obtain opportunities to better yourself. Religion is a source of comfort, but is also used by some religious leaders as a way gain power and influence over the desperate. Most people work as day laborers and live day to day. They often do not eat every day because they cannot find work. Fires, building collapses, gang activity, and violence are a part of everyday life. Diseases spread rapidly while no medical care

Mars claimed that Hershey s maltersers packaging was very similar to that of Mars packaging due to which the customers were buying Hershey s maltesers hindering the latter company s sales in the US. Hershey defended its stance by saying that it has held the malteser trademark for more than 15 years in the US and demanded to ban mars maltesers from US. Nevertheless, the two companies settled the matter within themselves keeping the further details confidential. Similarly, there was another case in 2007 that took place in Canada of an anti competitive behavior between Hershey s, Mars and Nestle of price fixing. Mars and Nestle pledged to give evidences of them not being involved in this conspiracy. Whereas, Hershey Canada defended itself by saying that: it had promptly reported the conduct to the Competition Bureau, cooperated fully with its investigation and did not implement the planned price increase that was the subject of the 2007 communications. Therefore an article published by Flavelle in 2015 reported that after the eight years of investigation, the matter was finally closed and there were no charges against the three companies. (2) Comparing the results of our ILP compare to real life: Our ILP produces objective values close to but slightly lower than the maximum number of points scored in one game for all five teams. A table of these results can be found in Appendix t1.5. The low objective values can most likely be attributed to the volatility of the $c_{i,j}$ variables, which are based off of the teams average 2 point and 3 point shot percentages. It is reasonable to assume that the teams had higher 2 point and 3 point percentages than average in the game where they scored the most points, accounting for the higher total points scored compared to the ILP. This is discussed further in section 6 (Obstacles Encountered So Far). Comparing the $x_{i,j}$ used to obtain the objective value for the ILP for a selected team and the actual number of iPA per quarter j from the highest scoring game for the same team in the 2016 2017 season shows that the Golden State Warriors, who had the highest average number of points per game last season, followed a fairly similar game plan to that calculated by the ILP (r1.1). Every shape has a thin golden outline, which explains the unique and non industrialized manufacturing process. The fluid patterns seem to be filling up the space in a non systematic nor a symmetrical way to reflect the natural behaviors of the plants. There are no composition or main point of focus. Thus, the patterns are there to create the surface rather than to illustrate a story. The empty areas such as the legs of the tripod are filled with curved vine patterns. The curling vines overlap each other, creating a sense of dimension and space on a flat surface. The leaf texture and lines make the vines recognizable. Moreover, the absence of the leaf on the middle section of the lid shows that the curls on the lid are clouds intertwining with smaller dragons that are hidden. This style reminisces the art of Zhou where interlacing animals formed intricate patterns. Coincidentally, this is where the smoke or the cloud of the incense will flow through. This censer portrays the commonly displayed theme of journey to heaven, as it is embodied by the elements of the plants on Earth and the clouds from heaven. Nuclear energy is energy created by harnessing the energy produced by the nuclear reactions that take place inside the nucleus of the UraniumIsotope 235, ( Nuclear Energy ). Nuclear energy is one attempt to decrease the rate at which nonrenewable fossil fuels are being consumed. Some believe nuclear energy to be an environmentally friendly and self sustaining way to produce energy; however, there are a countless number of social and economically risks to consider; ultimately, the detrimental effects power plant leaks and explosions have on the human body, the cost it takes to produce the plants, and the production of nuclear waste, should be enough to persuade one to turn away from using nuclear energy as a source of power. The fear of a nuclear power plants is reasonable, considering there were thirty three accidents between the 1950 s and early 2000 s, (McInnes, Colin). The crisis had exposed many of the shortcomings in the existing financial and political systems, creating a large desire for alternatives (Popper IV). Many saw Bitcoin as the answer as it was free of any sort of central government. Although not specifically stated in the book, there are many pros and cons I personally saw in using Bitcoins as a form of currency. Similar to gold, a major problem that bitcoin has as a currency is the fact that it there is a finite limit to it as mentioned above. This creates numerous issues compared to fiat money. For example, if the currency is saved in large quantities, thus removing it from use, this will then make individual Bitcoins more valuable, as they become scarcer. This will then cause deflation, as you can buy more with less, incentivizing people to hold on to bitcoins more, as they will be worth more in the future. This will continue to propel itself until the Bitcoins will effectively become useless as people lose faith in the currency. This is where typically fiat money triumphs, as governments have the ability to push money into the economy in order to continue growth and combat the risk of deflation. Another huge issue, as stated in the book, with Bitcoins as a currency, is at its current stage it is not widely used. Thus, is highly volatile, and this will most likely be the case for some time as this currency is in its infant stages. A
