Citizen Kane Analysis Essay
Crafting a "Citizen Kane Analysis Essay" can be a challenging endeavor, requiring a
comprehensive understanding of the film's intricacies, historical context, and cinematic
techniques. Charles Foster Kane, the central character, is a complex figure, and unraveling the
layers of his life demands a keen analytical eye. Delving into the film's narrative structure,
symbolism, and cinematography necessitates a thorough examination, often involving multiple
viewings to capture the subtleties.
Moreover, the cultural and historical backdrop against which "Citizen Kane" unfolds adds
another layer of complexity. A successful analysis requires a nuanced exploration of the socio-
political climate of the time, as well as an understanding of Orson Welles' creative choices and
how they resonate with the audience.
Expressing one's thoughts coherently is another challenge. Formulating a thesis that encapsulates
the essence of the analysis, structuring arguments logically, and presenting evidence effectively
are crucial aspects. Additionally, balancing personal insights with scholarly perspectives adds
depth to the essay but requires a delicate touch.
The essay's success hinges on the writer's ability to synthesize information from various sources,
incorporating critical perspectives while maintaining originality. Articulating a clear and
compelling argument demands not only a command of language but also a mastery of film
analysis terminology.
In conclusion, composing a "Citizen Kane Analysis Essay" is a formidable task that demands a
blend of critical thinking, research skills, and a deep appreciation for the art of filmmaking.

Sarah and Isabella: Jesse Owens 1936 Berlin Olympics, takes a stand. (Title) by
Isabella Jebran and Sarah Fenstermacher
Sarah: As Jesse Owens once said, We all have dreams. But in order to make dreams
come into a reality, it takes an awful lot of determination, dedication, self discipline,
and effort. This quote is saying that before you can make your dreams come true,
you must work hard and not stop until you reach your dreams. This has to do with
our topic because Jesse Owens showed these traits when he was competing in the
1936 Olympics.
Isabella: Hitler believed that his race of people would beat African Americans in the
Olympics. Jesse Owens still raced in the Olympics and won four gold medals. It is

we can say she also took a stand because she stood up to Hitler and the guy who

Summary Of How To Tell A True War Story By Tim O Brien
Tim O brien, an American novelist, has a complex, but creative meaning in his story
How To Tell a True War Story . My interpretation of the story is that the person
telling a story has the power to create the connection between the reader s opinion,
emotion, and the story being told. Throughout the text O brien proves this by making
statements to support his claim, but then contradicts himself afterwards. In this story
O brien uses a war story because of the conflicting information giving from the story
and what actually had happened. To make a connection between the reader s opinion
and the story Tim O brien uses examples of what he is trying to interpret within the
story. Starting off the story he states This is true (O brien 67), later... Show more

A true war story, if truly told, makes the stomach believe (O brien 78), is the point
where I believed the story s meaning lies in the actual story. The reason is, O brien
talks about a feeling that is created after hearing the story. This feeling is an
indicator that the story and emotions had a link that went hand to hand with one
another. It supports the idea that how a story is told can influence a person s
opinion and or emotion regarding the story. In the end the meaning does lie within
your head, but is created based off of what is said in the

INTRODUCTION
Tourism is the second largest contributor to the Indonesian economy after oil and
gas (Osman, 2009). Income from tourism totaled USD6.3 billion in 2009 with 6.5
million international arrivals and is expected to increase to USD15 billion in 2010,
providing direct employment to nearly 2 million people and 6.8 million people
overall (World Travel and TourismCouncil, 2010). Realizing that tourism has larger
impact on employment and promotes trade opportunities and development of the
country, the Government of Indonesia has increased the annual budget for tourism,
allocating USD229.3 million for 2011 (Citrinot, 2010) for both development and
promotion of the industry. With a total promotion budget of USD50 million, the...

Indonesian tourism currently does not compare well with its neighbours Malaysia,
Thailand and Singapore. Not only has Indonesia to compete based on almost similar
offerings, it also has to overcome the challenges of terrorism and natural disasters,
twin challenges that has several countries issuing travel warnings against travelling
there. Further inter connectivity within the country is not fully developed. Target
Markets and Segmentation As stated above, the Board has targeted arrivals from 15
countries. It is unclear if these markets are further segmented. However, based on the
VITO websites located in those countries (where available in English), we noted that
there are attempts to focus on specific themes in the different markets. For example,
the websites of the Australian VITO are more focused on outdoor activities whilst
the MiddleEast website was more on culture and shopping. The remaining websites
appear to be similar.
What Have You Lost By Naomi Shihab Nye
I never thought the day would come, the day I would lose someone so important to
me, my grandma. My grandma was the best grandmother ever, she was caring and
loved all of her children and her grandchildren. Elizabeth Kubler Ross has her five
stages of grieving that I had went through after my grandma had passed. In the
book of poems What Have You Lost, Naomi Shihab Nye selected various
categories of poems. The two poems I have selected have to do with the loss of a
grandmother. These poems, Tutu on the Curb and Where on this Earth have
different views on the loss of loved ones. My grandma was a very strong woman,
she always was helping others before herself. Lines from the poem, Tutu on the
Curb are very descriptive and remind me of my grandma. For example, Her hair all
pin up on one bun (3), her blue Hawaiian print muumuu/ blowing in the wind (6 7),
and also, her hair so grey! (10). All three of these lines bring back many memories of
her before she got sick. My grandma had been struggling with an uncommon
disease for a while and every month she got worse and worse, until she was just skin
and bone. It got so bad that she was too weak to walk and soon lost her ability to talk.
Everybody knew it was time for her to go, we did not want her to suffer anymore. On
a certain December day, the nurses told us that it would be her last day. So all of my
mom s sisters and brothers came to say their good byes. Some of my older cousins,
my sister and I also came. While

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Description of the Project
The Asterix field lies in 1,360 meters of water in the Norwegian North Sea on Block
6705/10 in PL 327B. The field is operated by Statoil, holding a 70% interest; Petoro
holds 25%; and Norske Shell the remaining 10% interest.
Drilled by the Transocean Leader, the 6705/10 1 well reached a vertical depth of
3,775 meters below sea. The reservoir is located in Upper Cretaceous reservoir rocks,
and found gas in rocks with good reservoir properties.
Asterix will be considered for development together with Luva and the other nearby
discoveries. In addition, the configuration of Asterix, Haklang, Snefrid and other
small discovery raises the possibility of developing an infrastructure in the fields of
Norway.
Statoil has found gas in Asterix, a small undeveloped gas discovery for which is
developing custom technology.
In addition, Asterix contain 16 billion cubic metres of recoverable gas
Comparing Movies Minority Report And The Martian

ENG3U
19 December 2016 COMPARATIVE ESSAY ON THE MARTIAN AND
MINORITY REPORT A comparison between the movies Minority report and The
Martian demonstrates how both movies differ and what makes it significant on its
own. Minority report is a movie that is based on the year 2054. It is mainly about a
special unit of the police department called Precrime. Precrime is a department that
arrests murderers before they can commit the actual crime. The heart and brain of
precrime was based on the visions of the three precogs who were used to stop murder
before it happens and whose prophesies about the future events are never wrong. In
the martian, after the great storm attack the team leader, Lewis thinking that one of the

changed it by making plans for his life in mars and preparing ahead. In the minority
report, one of the major question that was asked was whether the future is accurate
or whether free will could alter the future. We don t choose the things we believe in;
they choose us (Minority report, Burgess). This free will does exist because when
the murderers control their actions then, the precogs visions are but the facts that
occurred from their choice of action. John tried to change his destiny but since there
was no minority report which means there was no alternative fate for John, the only
way he could change his future was by his choice of action. The only similarity that
can be found in their fate and destiny was that they were both supposed to die but in
the end, both changed their
Symbols In The Awakening
The Awakening there is vast usage of symbols such as the sea, houses, birds,
clothing, and children. i)For example Kate Chopin uses allusions to children to
convey that Edna is in some ways a child. Throughout the book we see the
awakening of many characters but most importantly we see Edna s awakening. Her
awakening takes place as a rebirth, a new start, but this rebirth is from a perspective
of a child, thus once she undergoes her awakening she stops caring for others, fails
to think realistically about her future and her actions, just like a child would. The
usage of children has more complex meaning then symbolizing her awaking, they
also symbolize the inspiration of her to commit suicide, she does because she cares
about how her children s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We will begin with her husband who unlike the rest of her lovers he loves Edna
and their sons. Although he wishes Edna would change her attitude and be the
women that society expects he still loves her and cares for, though since he is
gone on trips most of the time he has little time to understand and know her true
feelings, this is why the spark in their marriage has been slowly fading away. Now
Edna s first lover Robert Lebrun unlike her husband Leonce Pontellie, is a young
man who enjoys becoming the attendant of different women of Gran Isle each
summer, although he cant be taken serious by women most of the time, mainly
because the way he expresses his love towards them is very comical and in a over
exaggerated manner, as time goes by and they become friends he finds out that he
truly loves Edna, but is confused from pursuing the love of his life, and from the
value that she is the possession of Mr. Pontellier. Now unlike Robert and Edna s
husband; Alcee Arobin is seductive, charming, he knows how to work with the
ladies, he can be said to be the Don Juan of New Orleans, all though he lures in
women for fun, he never gets committed, and ironically his specialty are married
women, he enjoys conquering them. We can see that Edna love Arobin, although he
doesn t necessarily show it to her emotionally, but he does meets her physical
Persuasive Essay On Reaching Goals In Life
Just Keep Climbing Imagine being over eight thousand meters above sea level,
blind with altitude sickness, dizzy from lack of oxygen, and still having to muster
the strength to push through blankets of snow at a nearly sixty degree incline.
Reaching goals in life sometimes feels like one uphill climb after another. The most
important thing to remember is to keep a positive mindset during the entire journey.
Nothing is too great to accomplish because If you have faith as small as a mustard
seed, you can say to this mountain, Move from here to there, and it will move.
Nothing will be impossible for you (New International Version, Matt. 17.20). This
sets out the true analogy between reaching the summit of a mountain and making a
dream into a reality. I aspire to achieve pure felicity in everyday moving forward. I
will attain this goal by living boundlessly, building candid relationships, and attending
Harrison School of Pharmacy at Auburn University. To live without limitations and
confinement is to live boundlessly. One must have intrepidity through every good
and bad day that comes along to exemplify this. Everyday that one receives on this
earth is another chance to broaden horizons. Time is precious just like the Word of
God is to one who may be going through strife. I am going to spend my free time in
the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, the Ocoee River in Tennessee, and the
Talladega National Forest in Alabamabecause I don t want to
The Value At Risk Management
Most people who have invested or are considering investing in any financial asset,
ask at some point in time the following question: What is the most I can loose on my
investment? The Value at Risk, commonly known as VaR, tries to answer this
question within a reasonable bound. VaR is used in financial mathematics and
financial riskmanagement as a risk management tool to measure the risk of loss of an
individual asset or a whole portfolio. Although it provides a good sense of risk one
is undertaking, it shouldn t be an alternative method to risk adjusted value and or
other probabilistic approaches. In the following lines, we first give a general
description of the VaR and the story behind its development and its applications. We

Financial institutions, mostly commercials and investments banks, use the VAR to
gauge the amount of cash they should hold in their reserve in order to be able to
cover the potential loss. Although the term Value at riskhas not been used till
the1990s, the origins of its measure lie further back in time. The arithmetic behind
the VaR were developed by Harry Markowitz (1952) in his studies of effects of asset
risk, return, correlation, and diversification on probable investment portfolio returns
which contributed to the modern portfolio theory. In fact, the trigger of the use of
VaR came from the crisis that tormented the financial market and the regulatory
responses to these crises. After the great depression of 1929, the Securities Exchange
Act established in 1934 the Security Exchange Commission (SEC), a federal
government agency in charge of regulating stocks and options exchanges. Since the
SEC initially required banks to keep their borrowing below 2000% of their equity
capital, Banks developed risk measures and control devices to ensure that they meet
the capital requirements. In the 1970, the introduction of financial derivatives
markets and floating rate exchanges have significantly increased the volatility, which
is the risk, in the financial markets. The latter was confirmed by the failure in 1995 of
Barings, the British investment bank, by the unauthorized trading in Nikkei (Japan s

Comparing Krush Grove And Do The Right Thing
In Spike Lee s Do The Right Thing and Michael Shultz s Krush Grove, the various
sights and sounds that are present from the beginnings of the movies are used as
tools to portray the different African American experiences that are present in both
films. In the opening credits of Do The Right Thing, Public Enemy s Fight the
Power can be heard while a women dances. In this case, the imagery and music are
used as tools to help establish a setting that the movie takes place in. The sights and
sounds in the opening credits help transport the viewer to the streets of Brooklyn in
the late 1980 s, where the majority of Do The Right Thingtakes place. Similar
techniques of creating a setting using sights and sounds are used throughout Krush

Author Guthrie Ramsey states in Musing New Hoods that the music used in Do The
Right Thing depicts a range of associations that include black male and female
subjectivity, ethnic identity, a sense of location, emotional and mental states, a
specific historical moment, and the perspectives of age groups (Ramsey 314). The
various characters in Do The Right Thing such as radio host Mister SenМѓor Love
Daddy (played be Samuel L. Jackson) and Radio Raheem (played by Bill Nunn) use
hip hop music to establish a sense of location, emotional states, and ethnic identity
that is present throughout the movie. In one scene, Radio Raheem is shown in a
confrontation with a group of Latinos playing Salsa music. Radio Raheem proceeds
to blast his hip hop music at full volume in order to outplay the Latinos Salsa music.
This is another example of how music is used in the film to display the ethnic
identities of individuals, as well as the various emotional and mental states that
music can create. In addition to hip hop music, Spike Lee implements a variety of
music genres in Do The Right Thing in order to create a certain ambiance and
feeling. The use of orchestral music throughout the film plays an important role in
establishing specific emotions during scenes. Jazz and soul music are also used to
display emotion during various exchanges between characters. According to Victoria
E. Johnson, the music used in Do The Right Thing serves to convey a romanticized
vision of community in the ethnically mixed neighborhood in which the story takes
place (Ramsey 315).
In Krush Grove, director Michael Shultz uses various musical performances to
display the many aspects of hip hop culture and the African American experience.
Similar to Do The Right Thing, Krush Grove s use of imagery and music help portray
the ethic identities,
Eddard Stark Quotes
If you would take a man s life, you owe it to him to look into his eyes and hear his
final words. And if you cannot bear to do that, then perhaps the man does not
deserve to die. (Ch. 1 pg.13) These are the words of Lord of the North, an
honorable family man, and Hand of the King. This man is Eddard Ned Stark, the
head of the Stark family and Lord of Winterfell. He is one of the main characters in
the book Game of Thrones: A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin. Eddard
Stark is an interesting character to be compared with Daenerys Dany Targaryen. She
is the youngest surviving child of King Aerys Targaryen. The only family she has is
her brother Viserys who call himself the last dragon. At first glance, Eddard and

man, Lord Eddard. Ofttimes I forget that. I have met so few of them in my life...

Daenerys, on the other hand, took a different path. Throughout the book her character
developed. She learned that she is immune to fire, and started doubting that her
brother is the last dragon and rightful King to Seven Kingdoms. Ser Jorah Momoa
helped her clear her thoughts, and later on told her who should rule the Seven

Analyzing The Film Gladiator
My film I watched was Gladiator. It was an action movie as opposed to a
documentary about war. It was based in Rome in the early times.
In the movie, the emperor of Rome was Marcus Aurelius. He was a very victorious
general. After his death he wanted Maximus to take the throne, and he wasn t even
his son. Aurelius s son was very power hungry and wanted to rule. His plan was to
rule Rome and take the throne. He wanted to murder the last ruler Marcus Aurelius
and then execute Maximus, which was the new emperor after so then he would be
next in line. Maximus then escaped the execution but was then sold into slavery.
From there he was forced into being a gladiator. He was trained by Proximo. Later
they were sent off to Rome to perform a lot of
Similarities Between The Cake s Funeral And Their Eyes...
In Zora Neale Hurston s, Their Eyes Were Watching God, Janie goes through three
marriages, discovering herself along the way. At one point in her life, Janie
marries Joe, an important leader for the town of Eatonsville, a large contributor to
the town and well respected by many. Afterwards, she marries Tea Cake, a younger
man but also well respected by his fellow workers. While both of their funerals may
have the basic similarities of being funerals themselves, having many people, and
being somewhat fancy, upon a closer look Joe s funeralis an outreach of his being
controlling others, while Tea Cake s funeral is a memorial to him created by his
friends and family, which reveals how much better of a husband and friend Tea Cake
was.

This is evident with the passage stating, the gold and red and purple, the gloat and
glamor of the secret orders. Joe was so important to the whole town of Eatonsville
that these important men will come. Joe clearly wanted this, as the whole event is
styled to highlight his allure. A song titled, Safe in the Arms of Jesus, was being
played, which may insinuate that Joe viewed himself in a similar light to Jesus. In
addition, the paragraph ends with, The Little Emperor of the cross roads was
leaving Orange County as he had come with the out stretched hand of power. With
the whole celebration Joe, wished to establish and prove to everybody that even
after he is in his coffin, he is powerful. Even Janie herself has submit to his will
posthumously. Near the end, Janie, sent her face to Joe s funeral, and herself went
rollicking with the springtime across the world. With this sentence, Joe is flexing
his muscle of will over Janie, making her sit through a ceremony which she clearly
holds no real emotional attachment to, She wishes to be away in the springtime, but
instead her presence is controlled by Joe, even if he is not
The Day High School Training
In a show of defiance to weather, sports, and common sense, cross country season is
forever.
Three weeks after the state meet, some athletes begin conditioning for the imminent
season that will begin in nine months. Among those athletes is one whose story will
be told for generations to come: me. From the day high school training began last
summer, I spent every week, shin splints excepted, running, for whatever reason.
In the winter, most runners rest or play other sports. Some take up gymnastics, some
swim, and most sit down and relax in an ordinary display of common sense. Even
with the Mercer Island and Bellevue teams consolidated, a Tuesday tempo workout
drew no more than twelve runners.
The workout for the particular Tuesday was four ... Show more content on

At the tail end of four minutes of active rest, I felt a sensation that could almost be
described as restedness . It was at that moment that the break ended. We got up and
jogged across the field and back to get our legs moving again, and it was not hard
to keep myself from going too fast. I toed the line, and we were off in the opposite
direction this time, to keep our legs working evenly. My first 200 meters again
took 45 seconds on pace for a second six minute mile. The next 200 meters were
half a second slower, and the following 200 meters half a second slower than that,
and so forth until I had lost 14 seconds off my previous time. Everyone, it seemed,
had lost a step from their first time, and for good reason. There s not enough oxygen
in the world to maintain our first lap paces.
The modified rest time did nothing to alleviate the lack of energy in my legs or
oxygen in my lungs. As I lined up for a third mile, I began planning. Through oxygen
debt and ever increasing
200 splits, I formulated a way to be able to stand by the time the practice was over.
It went like this: As I rounded the curve of the track, I d stumble and walk off into
the outside lanes. I d have a slight limp, and after a few moments I d tentatively
shake out my foot. An ankle roll would be the perfect guise, for it would make the
clear best choice to stop for the day, but in a few hours after the workout I could
make a miraculous total recovery .

Aldo Leopold And Schaeffer s Personal Land Ethic
Aldo Leopold and Schaeffer have both been key contributors to my beliefs and
opinions and they have helped me shape my own personal land ethic. In Leopold s
essay titled The Land Ethic he makes several great points. Among these I have
found the community concept, substitutes for a land ethic and the future outlook to
be the most important. Leopold states, All ethics so far evolved rest upon a single
premise: that the individual is a member of a community of interdependent parts
(p.2). As humans we have a job and typically we show care for the things that we
really like and enjoy. But a question we need to ask ourselves is who do we love and
what do we care about? We live in community with everything around us including the

I believe that we need to think of the Earth as a gift and a home. We must take care of
our Earth but our personal health must come before Earth s. Lastly, our decision
making should be guided by the Bible and my common sense. Our Earth is truly a
gift and it is a good gift from God. Genesis 1:31 states, God saw all that we made,
and it was very good . We need to change the way that we look at the Earth.
Normally if we get a really nice gift we treasure it and do our best to protect it. This
is the same mindset that we need to have about our land. Secondly, we do need to
recognize that we have dominion over the Earth. God created us to take care of the
Earth. In the beginning God created the Heavens and the Earth and then he created
man to be stewards of it. It is important not to get to crazy and do things to harm the
Earth but we must also remain healthy. Humans come before the land and they
always should. Lastly, when living on Earth we must make good decisions. These
decisions should be based on what our teachings tell us and our common sense. It
is just common sense that cutting down a tree or throwing a wrapper out the yard
will harm the Earth. This semester I have learned so much, and thought deeply
about many topics. I know that the Earth is a gift and we are so blessed to have
this beautiful creation to live in. The many field trips that we went on made me
realize many things about our Earth that I didn t realize. Specifically the
wastewater treatment we went on made me realize how much waste we produce
and it makes me feel like we are hurting our Earth. Too often people don t think
about the things that they are doing to our Earth. Psalm 8:6 states, You made him
ruler over the works of your hands; you put everything under his feet . The Bible
states many times in context that we are to care for the Earth we have been
Reproductive Cloning Technology Essay
Reproductive Cloning
Cloning has become a major issue in our modern world, from moral, ethical, and
religious concerns, to the problem of financial and government support. Human
cloning is one of the most controversial topics, and because of this, many of the new
important discoveries and beneficial technologies have been overlooked and ignored.
Reproductive cloning technology may offer many new possibilities, including hope
for endangered species, resources for human organ transplants, and answers to
questions concerning cancer, inherited diseases, and aging. The research that led up
to the ability to clone mammals started more than a century ago. From frogs to mice
to sheep to humans, reproductive cloning promises many possibilities. ... Show more

Gene cloning is a unique and complicated technology that holds answers to many
questions, and offers numerous possibilities. The process of gene cloning will
provide potential answers for questions and puzzles concerning cancer, aging, and
inherited diseases, and will help provide a better tool for scientific health research,
human and animal alike. But what exactly is gene cloning? It is a process in which
a small portion of genetic information (a piece of DNA or gene) is removed from one
organism, and introduced into a host cell (Wong, 4 5). In order to accomplish this,
the gene is first inserted into a vector, or small piece of DNA. The vector then acts
as a vehicle (Wong, 4 5) and transports the gene into the host cell. The act of this
transportation into the host cell is called transformation, and the host cell becomes
known as a transformed cell. This is where the gene containing vector is replicated
or cloned into identical cells (Wong, 31 34)
Important discoveries led to this ability to clone genes. In 1970, scientists Howard
Temin and David Baltimore were able to isolate the first restrictive enzymes, named
Reverse Transcriptase, which cut DNA in particular locations (History of Cloning).
These enzymes, after cutting the DNA, leave what are known as sticky ends, which
are then healed by enzymes called ligase (McKinnell, 8 11). Then in 1972, Paul
Berg from Stanford University successfully combined two pieces of DNA to form
the first
Greater Collaboration In School
I have been asked by Principal Smith to suggest ways in which teachers at our school
might work more effectively together.
Collaboration is certainly an important goal. It can foster greater cooperation among
teachers and promote mutually beneficial interaction between us. It will encourage
sharing of the best methods we know, which ultimately will allow us provide our
students the best educational opportunities we can offer.
Here are a few suggestions for how we might accomplish the goal of greater
collaboration. Increasing communication between us is a large component of this
goal, and by using our most powerful communication tool, the school intranet, we can
share recent ideas and our most successful methods. This will encourage a dialogue
I T Thou Relationship
premise that human existence may be characterized by the way in which one
engages with all one encounters, including other humans, the world in general, and
God (Buber, 1958). A subject to subject relation, or the I Thou relationship, (as
opposed to the subject to object relation, or the I It relationship) is the essential
experience of reality (Buber, 1958). The I Thou relationship involves an awareness of
unity between subjects. It is an experience of mutuality. Indeed, when a subject either
chooses, or is chosen to enter into an I Thou relation, they are recognizing, or are
being recognized for their entire being and are thus being drawn into community. But
what exactly is community? In our individualistic society,... Show more content on

True community, however, is a rare occurrence which may be more easily defined
by looking first at what is not community. In his article What s really killing the
church, Samuel Wells (2013) tells the story of an elderly woman choosing to
return to the church of her youth after an absence of many decades. When asked
what took her away from the church, the woman reveals that a former pastor denied
her the right to be married in the church because a work accident had left her
without a wedding ring finger (Wells, 2013). It is easy to dismiss this outrageous
story as an incident too rare to provide insight. The essence of the event, however, is
all too common amongst groups purporting to be communities, such as churches.
People are excluded for a myriad of reasons from sexual orientation, to marital

Later in the 1800s, the United States attempted several times to secure diplomatic
relations with Japan. All attempts miserably failed. President Milton Fillmore
determined that Matthew C. Perry, a skilled was a Naval officer that could get it
done. He presented Perry with instructions to take charge of the East India Squadron
with aim to treat peacefully with Japan.
Perry initially delivered President Fillmore s request for a treaty to a representative
of the Japanese emperor in July 1853. Perry returned with a larger force in 1854,
arriving in Edo (Tokyo) Bay, and obtained the signature of Japanese authorities to
the Treaty of Kanagawa on 31 March 1854. As a result of this treaty of permanent

to the ports of Shimoda and Hakodate to obtain provisions, and shipwrecked seamen
from U.S. vessels were to receive the assistance of Japanese authorities. This treaty led
to significant commercial trade between the United States and Japan, contributed to

Essay Conflicts in the novel Segu
Controversies and conflicts are many ways to emphasize key characters and plots in
many novels. Authors such as, Maryse Conde use change and the effects of change,
to help the reader better understand the underlying themes. In the novel Segu, Conde
does just this. The controversy of change in religion creates a fairly large civil conflict
amongst the Bambarapeople. This same civil conflict eventually boils over into the
controversy of change in people and trade. The effect of this change would later be
described as the world s lowest point of society.
On the other hand, Islam was dangerous: it undermined the power of kings, according
sovereignty to one supreme god who was completely alien to the Bambara universe

Islam used its powers and privileges to the fullest extent. It threatened and terrified
the morale of inferior religions.
Tiekoro used the Islamic religion to his advantage. Although his people disliked
his decision, he somehow managed to make a bad situation into a perfect one. The
idea that first intrigued Tiekoro was the idea of learning how to read and write.
Learning to read and write was an opportunity to become more social and involved
in the affluent society. He saw this as a way to expand his horizon and someday
leave the country of Segu. Tiekoro s true motivation came in the form of a man. This
man was his father.
...Tiekoro looked up to his father as a god. He had admired him much more then the
Mansa. When had he started to think of him as a barbarian and an ignorant drinker of

in his life. But the fact that he d stopped admiring his father didn t mean he didn t
love him anymore...Tiekoro suffered from a conflict between his heart and his head,
between instinctive feelings and intellectual reasoning (22).
Tiekoro saw his father, and the way he lived. From that point onward, he told himself
that he would not turn into a man like that. He told himself that he would turn into a
respected and well rounded man. Eventually, Tiekoro did just that, becoming a saint

Hertzsprung Russell Diagram Lab Report
Using the Hertzsprung Russell Diagram Astronomers can find the past, present,
and future of stars. In addition, Astronomers use the Hertzsprung Russell Diagram
(H R Diagram) to find how the temperature and absolute brightness of stars are
related. The diagram can help label stars and know how they evolved. The pattern
used by Russell and Hertzsprung we still use today. Most have not heard of the
Hertzsprung Russell Diagram even though it is commonly used by astronomers
today. The Hertzsprung Russell Diagram is a graph to show how the temperature

is the absolute brightness of the stars. This axis brightness is increasing from the
bottom of the axis to the top. The X axis shows the surface temperature of the stars.
This axis shows a decreasing of the surface temperature from left to right. The

Blogging And Social Media Are Challenging Conventional...
Question 4: Examine the ways in which blogging and social media are challenging
conventional ideas about news (Thorsen, 2013, p.139).
.
Since the turn of the century, the use of social media and blogging has changed the
way in which we do many things. One thing it has had a large impact on is the news
and the way we access it. It is said that we now not only respond to the content carried
in mainstream media, but produce the content themselves (Noor,2013). This is called
citizen journalism, the way in which we can now all be a journalistic reporter, through
what we post on the internet.
It is said that 1.73billion people are now on social media (anon,2013), which is
around Вј of the population. This may be one of the many sites including Facebook,
Twitter, Instagram, BlogSpot etc. These websites all use many formats, but their
prime agenda is to help individuals around the world communicate.
This communication has allowed many people to express themselves and have
their own go at writing articles and insights on the issues in the world. In an article
written in the Guardian it is said that only a handful of journalists did not attend
higher education (Elliott,2014), meaning the majority of what you read in a
newspaper is from the same sort of person, from similar backgrounds who have
similar ideas. This used to dominate over the country, but now due to social media
we are allowing people of many backgrounds to have their say and be heard, by this
happening we will
A Short Note On Diabetes And Diabetes Mellitus
Diabetes is a disease that plagues many individuals, causes adverse health problems,
and if left uncontrolled can lead to premature death. Diabetes Mellitus is
characterized by unstable glucose levels and has 3 different forms: Type 1 Diabetes,
Type 2 Diabetes, and Gestational Diabetes. This research paper will focus on Type 2
Diabetes Mellitus(T2DM). Type 2 diabetes is a chronic disease in which insulinis not
produced sufficiently or non existing within the pancreas, causing an increase in the
bodies blood glucose levels (U.S. National Library of Medicine, 2014). Gestational
diabetesmellitus is when a pregnant woman develops insulin resistance during
pregnancy; generally, women return to normal glucose levels after pregnancy, but...

The goal of the American Diabetes Association (ADA) (2014) is to reach out to these

Though the ADA does not actually provide healthcare services they target various
ethnic populations within the community; provide its residents with resources on
how to manage and treat prediabetes and diabetes. Por tu Familia is an outreach
program that is specifically designed to provide resources and educate Hispanic
communities around the United States. Diabetes is an urgent health problem in the
Latino community. Their rates of diabetes are almost double those of non Latino

this existing program, Por tu Familia Dos, can create a greater knowledge within the
community about how to treat and care for prediabetes and diabetes amongst the

individuals of all ages, males and females, who have Type 2 Diabetes and are
accustomed to dealing with diabetes on their own. The majority of the projected

Utopia By Thomas More And The Condition Of The
Working Class
How Our Society Today Relates to Societies Hundreds of Years Ago
The books, Utopia by Thomas More and the Condition of the Working Class by
Friedrich Engels criticize societies hundreds of years ago, and upon reading these
books, I have realized that our society today, shares many of the qualities of societies
mentioned in these books. Utopia and the Condition of the Working Class brought to
light the wealth gap and inequality within societies and how the conditions we are
brought up in affects our future. The authors of these books also point out the
insecurity of people, as well as poverty and self interest. Society has changed since
the early days, but there are quite a few never ending issues that still affect our
societies today.
Grouping people into classes has been an everlasting issue, and it will continue to
be an issue as long as people exist. Giving people a class they fall under is a result
of the gap between the rich and poor. Friedrich Engels wrote, The town itself is
peculiarly built, so that a person may live in it for years, and go in and out daily
without coming into contact with a working people s quarter or even with workers,
that is, so long as he confines himself to his business or to pleasure walks. This
arises chiefly from the fact, that by unconscious tacit agreement, as well as with
outspoken conscious determination, the working people s quarters are sharply
separated from the sections of the city reserved for the middle class; or, if this does
Newspaper Style
Introduction
A newspaper headline is often the only thing that readers read in a newspaper, or at
least, it is the first thing that everyone notices in a newspaper. It serves as a indicator
for the reader that helps decide whether to continue on reading the whole text or to
skip it onto another one. Each headline should be a summary of the news which
follows. A headline should be a regular sentencestructure containing a subject and a
verb. It means that only lexical, not grammatical words are used. The major reason
for that is the space. Then the rule of a sentence may be broken, only minor sentences
are used, and such a headline can be rather difficult to understand. This happens on

Analyzing Eminem s Song Stan
I think it depends on the individual choice. In today s audience, it is no secret that
vocal music dominates overall. When we listen to vocal music, the mood of the
song can have you feeling one way and suddenly have you feeling another way.
Eminem s song Stan is a perfect example. The song has a fan writing a letter to
Eminem. In the beginning, he tells Eminem how much of a big fan he was to him
and has been trying to get it contact with him, while also telling him about his life
and feeling sorry about the loss of one of Eminem relatives, but by the end of the
song he is hurt and mad that Eminem never responded to him. Unfortunately, he takes
his and his child s motherlife. The lyrics can take you up and down in vocal music.

Great Acting Research Paper
A swath of videos titled Why Action Movies Suck have been buzzing around the
internet for the past few years. They have discussed surface details of some of the
practical and obvious reasons why so many big time action movies released over the
past few years have been such a massive disappointment.
Writing, directing, post production and executive interference are all aspects that
affect the final quality of an action film, but the most important and most overlooked
aspect of action films that plays a huge role in the quality of an action movie is the
Stunt Aspect. In action movies stunt performers are often responsible for as much if

However, millions of movie fans are complaining about bad action movies. Bad
action takes away from a film just as much as bad acting, but the studios have no

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences was created with for this has
served as a nucleus of quality control for American Actors and Filmmakers since it
was established in in 1927. At that time, the Art Science of stunts had not evolved to

As long as there is not an Oscar for Best Stunt Work, Line Producers will continue

Essay On Becoming A Snare Drummer
When looked upon correctly, failure is the world s best teacher, showing people
both what they ve done wrong in their experiments and trials, and where they can
improve for their next attempt. In my life, this has been my highest held
philosophy. Experiencing failure and improving yourself based on that lesson is
fundamental to success. A fragment of time in my life where I experienced this
was when I moved to my first season of snare drum in the drum line. In the summer
before tenth grade, I had accomplished my aspiration of becoming a snare drum
player. However, I swiftly discovered that my journey as a drummer was far from

and having control over my sticks.

This is where you want to focus on the rim and extend at the elbow, and extending at

your hand to the rim. When we do it, we consider it to be very simple, but it is
actually a very complex movement, involving many different muscles. Many muscles
are involved, some more than others. I will first talk about the ones used the least.
The shoulder girdle involves muscles that are key to the movement, but are mostly
used in stabilization of the shoulder. The Trapezius and the Rhomboid muscles are
stabilizers of the shoulder along with the rotator cuff muscles including the
Supraspinatis, Infraspinatis, Teres Minor, and Subscapularis which provide dynamic
stability of the shoulder. All these muscles are key, but are not involved much in the
actual movement. The Serratus Anterior is commonly used in movements drawing
the scapula forward with slight upward rotation, and would be used in shooting the
basketball and works in conjunction with Pectoralis Minor. Now we will get into
some of the muscles actually doing the work when shooting the free throw. The
Deltoid, which is one of the most important muscles involved in any shoulder
movement is responsible for the movement of the Humerus. Any movement of the
Humerus will involve the Deltoid. The Coracobrachialis assist in flexion of the

Grand Parenting In Latino Culture
In many cultures, the greatest joy of a person comes through the realization that they
will soon be called a grandparent. Speaking from a personal perspective, the Latino
culture sees the arrival of a grandchild, for the most part, through a set of different
beliefs. The first belief associated with the role of being a grandparent, is the idea that
one s offspring has embarked on full adulthood , and that now, they will understand
what true responsibility is all about. Another common belief among the Latino
population when it comes to grand parenting, is that being a grandparent correlates
with being a parentall over again; given that many Latinos see this particular role, as
one in which they must play an active role for the wellbeing of

In 1789 the United States Constitution was developed by the founding fathers. This
document was developed to give a basis for governing people and providing rules
to follow. As the world becomes a so called melting pot, of cultures, religions and

The legality of cannabis varies from country to country. Possession of cannabis is
illegal in most countries and has been since the beginning of widespread cannabis
prohibition in the late 1930s. However, possession of the drug in small quantities had
been decriminalized in many countries and sub national entities in several parts of the
world. Furthermore, possession is legal or effectively legal in the Netherlands,
Uruguay, and in the US states of Colorado, Oregon, Alaska and Washington as the
federal government has indicated that it will not attempt to block enactment of
legalization in those states. The federal district of Washington D.C. legalized cannabis
for possession and use in 2015 but was blocked by a Congressional rider from
instituting commercial sales and taxation. Cannabis is also legal in some U.S cities
such as Portland and South Portland, both of which are in Mane. And the United
States Department of Justice is allowing all recognized Indian Reservations to
regulate the legalization of cannabis, and the laws are allowed to be different from
Federal and state law. On 10 December 2013, Uruguay became the first nation in the
world to legalize the sale, cultivation, and distribution of cannabis.
The medicinal use of cannabis is legal in a little bit of countries, including Canada,

my classmates, and disruptive. The bus ride to school was also a problem. I would
jeopardize the safety of the other children by jumping over the seats, and
disrupting the bus driver. It got so bad that I eventually had to ride a small bus all
by myself. Of course my father would get letters and phone calls from the school,
he did not seem to care. My father was more worried about what was going on in
his world to care what was happening at my school. After a while the school decided
I needed to be enrolled in a special school that was more equipped to handle my
behavior issues. No one in the school system even thought twice about the discipline

The opening scene starts with three people on the stage dressed as young children,
they have their backs to the audience and are dressed in a black and white style, and
the curtains are drawn.

The puppet breaks and the children get upset and start fighting between themselves.
The young girl runs off and tries fixing it she does eventually fix it and now owns
the puppet. This makes her feel really special as she is normally left out. She treats
the doll with care and starts to dance with the puppet. The family stop dancing and
get in a crowd and begin to sing
Christmas songs whilst her brother is running round acting as a cowboy with his gun.
The girl and family find him quite annoying.
A man and women begin too dance and the oldest child who is very flirty and gets
jealous easy wants to dance with the man and tries to but the man is to involved in
the other women. The love in the scene grows and there are even signs of sex! The
party soon finishes and everybody goes home and to bed.
The children come down and start to route through the presents under the tree and
start fighting. The clock in the room disappears and the
Hard Nut face appears. Three small rats come onto the stage and crawl around, the
young girl is the only child left on the stage she starts to get scared. All of the
settings on the stage are moved and the girl is left on her own. The music changes as

The Importance Of Courage In King Arthur
Oftentimes courage is defined as the absence of fear, when in truth it is the acquired
ability to move beyond fear (Quizio). This is evident in Guy Ritchie s King Arthur:
Legend of the Sword. The film initially portrays the main character, Arthur, as an
arrogant and egotistical conformist that, despite his strength, is unable to face his
fears of the past. As the story develops, Arthur s character develops tremendously
along with it. His development motivates others, and himself, to believe in his
destiny. Arthur s newly developed courage and confidence allows those around him
to rely on his destined role, while also encouraging others to either adopt the quality
or forsake it. Despite the fact that courage is required to accomplish all of the
aforementioned actions, there are several traits that Arthur acquires before achieving
it. This awards Arthur with an abundant amount of honorable attributes while also
offering England a just and humble King. In Guy Ritchie s film King Arthur, courage
impacts Arthur s self and others, as it allows him to conquer fear, and to inspire
bravery, while developing the necessary qualities to do so. Guy Ritchie s film King
Arthur, demonstrates the way that Arthur and his community are impacted as he
acquires courage to face his fears. When Arthur is introduced to his destiny, his
initial reaction is to deny it due to his fear of not only giving control to the sword,
but also because of the memories it brings forth. Arthur s lack of
The Downfall Of The Wellington Sevens
The Downfall of the Wellington Sevens
How does the sevens fail to bring people together.
The Wellington sevens is one of 10 tournaments in 10 different countries in the sevens
world circuit. From the first tournament in 2000, to the 2014 tournament, the
Wellington sevens was the blockbusting event of the Kiwi summer. The tournaments
tickets were sold out in minutes, and Westpac Stadium, which can hold up to 38,000
people, was packed to the rafters. Just as so many other events are synonymous with
their city: Monaco Grand Prix, Indianapolis 500 or Bathurst 1000. For the Wellington
Sevens, it had been the place to be seen and a focal point for the summer. However
ever since the 2014 tournament, where about 270 sevens goers were kicked out ...

I think the [NRL Auckland] Nines killed a lot of it, plus the prices were less than
$100 the first year, then it got up to $200 which would ve put a few people off.
Food prices and the fun police killed it too. Rush also argues that perhaps a change
of venue will breathe some much needed life and excitement into the venue. He
urged the organisers of the event to assess whether the capital was the best place
to host the New Zealand leg of the circuit. As it stands, Wellington has signed on to
host the New Zealand leg of the World Series for two more years. It s a very bad
look. There s no magic solution and you gotta feel for the rugby union because we are
a rugby country, We re one of the top nations in the world in all forms of the game
and to have our tournament as one of the worst, probably, on the circuit, she s not a
good look. Rush thinks that perhaps taking it away from New Zealand or at least
Wellington will help people realise what they are missing, and realise how great the
tournament has been to have in Wellington in the past. The fact that the tournament
used to be so popular, and has shown a sudden decline in popularity is a big factor as
to why the tournament struggles to bring people together. What was once one of the
highlights of the sevens circuit has become somewhat of a non event. Many used to
come together and meet at the Wellington Sevens, large crowds and a great
atmosphere would help bring people a lot closer,
The Theme Of Death In Othello and A Doll s House Essay...
The theme of death is present in many works of literature. It is given metaphors and
cloaked with different meanings, yet it always represents an end. Every end signifies
a new beginning, and every death gives rise to a new birth. Physical death ...is mere
transformation, not destruction, writes Ding Ming Dao. What dies is merely the
identity, the identification of a collection of parts that we called a person. What dies
is only our human meaning (49). Figuratively speaking, deathsymbolizes a change, an
interruption or cessation of regular routine. In this sense, death can be viewed as a
more positive occurrence, because change leads to new experience, which, in turn,
leads to knowledge and a better... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, when confronted with a mental battle, his logical defense isn t strong enough.
Othello loses because sentiment beats his rationality.
The final scene in Othello is loaded with deaths. Every character that died in the
play was a victim of Iago s fraudulent plot. Iago slew Roderigo and Emilia to
maintain the frame around his scheme. He killed to keep them silent, thinking that he
could still retain his cover. Iago was foul, because he did harm to others only to
satisfy his own appetite. His plot ended in the most unfortunate way, and it s end didn
t justify the means, because he got caught.
Othello slew Desdemona for honor and justice. Although he was wrong, his action
can be somewhat justified, as his purpose was understandable. Othello was already
dead inside before he committed suicide. The difference in his character before and
after the temptation scene is remarkable. Iago literally tore Othello apart and rebuilt
him, instilling in him a whole new set of facts and ideas. Othello killed himself
when he realized the truth, because his old self was already gone, not to mention the
love of his life. His suicide followed the instant that he stepped out of delusion, and
his death was an awakening,
because it shattered the misconception of truth. Othello s death concluded the play,
clearing up every lie that Iago had woven.

This case analysis evaluates Chick fil A. It is designed to show the Strength,
weakness, opportunities and threat. It delineates how the founding principles have
guided the company over the years, and how it has responded slowly to change over
the years. CFA has grown to be a force to reckon with in the industry with strength in
customer experience and sandwich trademark. However, the emerging markets, social

He demanded enduring loyalty among customers and customers. CFA s customers
spans through the entire population spectrum, however, it focuses on family. The
high expectations by CFA are obviously because of the need to preserve the
founding heritage and culture. As CFA strives to be the best quick service restaurant
, key external factors affect CFA. Demographics is a major threat, this includes race,
age and gender. CFA is family oriented and believes in marriage, but a comment he
made on this issue earned him a bad publicity. However, that created an opportunity
in the Christian community. Despite the harm of this factor, revenue went up same
year. His adherence to his principles proved to people that CFA would not downplay
its core values. Another threat are rivalry and intense competitors. The industry is a
120 million dollar industry with about 50 percent offering the hamburger entrees.
(hoovers.com 2008). Some of these competitors are KFC, Subway, Burger King,
McDonalds and Taco Bell. New entrants is a threat to CFA, example is Oporto who
just made its way into the United States. There is also the threat from substitutes.
Since Sundays are off days for CFA, customers will like to look for substitutes, and
if rivals provided them, this might affect CFA. Example of substitute from rival is
McDonalds southern chicken sandwich which in fact can come with biscuit and
pickles in the morning. The crave for
Road Ragers
When one starts to drive, he can discover many different people. He begins to
realize there are types of drivers. Once one categorizes these people, it can become
easy to loathe sharing the road with certain drivers. Sometimes it is hard because
they are irresponsible; other times it is because they drive as if they don t have
anywhere to be and make the road congested. They worst of all types of drivers are
those that drive at 100 mph in areas where no one should be going over half that.
Ideally, one would want to avoid the reckless Road ragers, the overly careful
Sunday Drivers, and the speedy Dragsters, at all costs. The Road ragers are the
drivers that think they own the road. They don t care about anyone. When
someone is going too slow, these guys will ride on top of his bumper; an easy
solution to this problem is to ease off the accelerator and go even slower to let the
jerks know who is in control. Once these numbskulls are able to pass, they often
speed on by as fast as they can and give a nice hand... Show more content on

They put everyone on the road with in danger because these motorists will race
anyone whenever they are given the chance. This race everyone, anytime attitude
leads to many accidents each year because the dragsters cannot operate their
vehicles while going at such high speeds. You can typical pick these guys out
fairly easy because any time they arrive at a light, the car s engine will begin to
roar at its owner s request, and the tires will squeal in pain as the car takes off. The
car has a distinct look to it as well; usually, the car will have tinted black windows
and very low suspension. Extremely dedicated, and dangerous, dragster will have
their engines tuned just for the extra edge on the residential streets they frequent. If
a casual driver had to pick one driver type to share the road with, he would never pick
the Drag Racer out of fear of being the next victim to sad
Indigestion Lab Report
Description of the approved topic: Indigestion is a common ailment for many
individuals and is a result of excess acid in the stomach. Excess hydrochloric acid
(HCl) in the stomach can irritate the stomach lining, cause tenderness and can often
lead to painful stomach ulcers. Excess amounts of HCl in the stomachalso leads to a
disease known as acidreflux where these acidic stomach contents come back into the
esophagus and corrode its lining, overtime leading to esophageal cancer. However,
there do exist commercial antacids (ex. Tums, Rolaids etc.) which are bases that react
stoichiometrically with the acid and neutralize it. Based on the active ingredients
present in the antacid, it is effectively able to neutralize a certain quantity of excess

titration experiment. After identifying the most effective antacid, which will the one
that is able to neutralize the greatest amount of HCl, I will compare it to the others to
determine/prove what active ingredient is more successful in comparison to the others.
Personal significance and real life context: This topic appeals to me because
indigestion of acids and acid reflux is something I have been suffering from since
childhood. At night, I am frequently awakened by reflux and belching. Although
acid reflux is largely considered to be an adult s disease, I was always part of the very
few percentage of kids and teenagers who also experience it. Every 8 to 12 months I
am encouraged by my family physician to visit the local
ENT specialist to ensure there is no corroding taking place in the lining of my
esophagus.
Currently, I am controlling my condition by doing simple things such as not eating
anything after
7:00 p.m. or avoiding spicy foods. However, I continue to experience acid reflux at
least once a month resulting in me taking antacid medications to rid myself of
discomfort. I use
Paul s Epistle To The Ephesians
Paul s epistle to the believers in Ephesus and Asia Minor has a richness and depth
that stirs one s soul. Paul s deep affection for the Ephesians is evident as he
communicates a profoundly transcendent yet highly practical view of living. In this
letter, Paul teaches unity in Christ (Eph. 1:10, 2:11 18). This unity, for the Christian,
begins with each individual believer, who, through Christ s indwelling, becomes
connected to Christ. This connection, or uniting (as a vine and a branch c.f. John
15:1 17), of Christ and the believer transforms the believer s inner being one s very
identity changes (Eph. 4:24). This inner renovation would further change one

Paul begins by explaining to his readers that they have been chosen by God since
before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless before Him (Eph. 1: 4).
Therefore, they have been made alive in Christ (Eph. 2:4 5) in order to become
who God created them to be (Eph. 2:10). Further, he explains that they, as Gentiles,
are now one in the body of Christ, coming together with believing Jews (Eph. 3:6).
Consequently, Paul urges them to live worthy of their calling (Eph. 4:1). This,
Paul clarifies, is possible only by stepping into one s new identity (Eph. 4:24) and
liv[ing] a life of love as dearly loved children (Eph. 5:2, 1, New International Version).
The power to live a holy life, as detailed in Ephesians chapters four through six,
comes from the love of Christ (Eph. 3:14 21). Paul prays for the Ephesian believers
to receive this power in Ephesians
Essay Summary of Thoreau
Synopsis Economy: This is the first chapter and also the longest by far. Thoreau
begins by outlining his project: a two year and two month stay at a crude cabin in
the woods near Walden Pond. He does this, he says, in order to illustrate the
spiritual benefits of a simplified lifestyle. He easily supplies the four necessities of
life (food, shelter, clothing, and fuel). He meticulously records his expenditures and
earnings, demonstrating his understanding of economy, as he builds his house and
buys and grows food. For a home and freedom, he spends a mere $25.
Complementary Verses: This chapter consists entirely of a poem, The Pretensions of
Poverty, by seventeenth century English poet Thomas Carew. The poem criticizes
those who... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To him, the railroad symbolizes the destruction of the good old pastoral way of
life. Following is a description of the sounds audible from his cabin: the church
bells ringing, carriages rattling and rumbling, cows lowing, whip poor wills
singing, owls hooting, frogs croaking, and cockerels crowing. Solitude: Thoreau
rhapsodizes about the beneficial effects of living solitary and close to nature. He
loves to be alone, for I never found the companion that was so companionable as
solitude, and he is never lonely as long as he is close to nature. He believes there is
no great value to be had by rubbing shoulders with the mass of humanity. Visitors:
Thoreau writes about the visitors to his cabin. Among the 25 or 30 visitors is a
young Canadian woodchopper, whom Thoreau idealizes as approaching the ideal
man, and a runaway slave, whom Thoreau helps on his journey to freedom in
Canada. The Bean Field: Thoreau relates his efforts to cultivate two and a half
acres of beans. He plants in June and spends his summer mornings weeding the
field with a hoe. He sells most of the crop, and his small profit of $8.71 covers his
needs. The Village: Thoreau visits the small town of Concord every day or two to
hear the news, which he finds as refreshing in its way as the rustle of the leaves.
Nevertheless, he fondly but rather contemptuously compares Concord to a gopher
colony. In late summer, he is arrested for refusing to pay

In this example the table shows where an employer was asked to hire more
employees in order to cover 100 departments with 30 different areas. Each new
employee would work in areas 1, 2, and 3. The area assigned to the employee
would be determined by the employer him/herself. The table above givens an
example of how it will go. Then the overall question would be how the assigned
areas would be split up.
When it comes to converting the table above into a graph to the answer, I am at a
little bit of a loss. The employee numbers 1, 2, and 3 would then be converted into
vertices D1, D2, and D3 and the different areas into A1, A2, and A3 which is shown
in the diagram below: In the diagram you have to replace the S s with D s and the C s
with the A s.
I believe the assigned areas would be given to the employees by the employer. An
employer would be assign to an employee by random. The employee would follow
the employer s number through the graph. This would start in area 1 and continue
on through 3. If you have 100 employers and 30 employees they would be assigned
in areas as 34, 33, and 33 this would allow all areas to be covered and the jobs

I Believe In This Essay
Rather than beginning with a typical I believe in this... statement, I m choosing to
start my essay out a bit differently, some might even use the word unconventionally
which is coincidently a word that s going to show back up later, but I digress. I
want to ask you, the reader, a question.Have you ever been told you can t do
something? Has someone ever told you that your goal or aspirations aren t
realistic? Perhaps they ve even went as far as telling you that your desires are
impossible. Well ifanyone has ever in your life told you that or anything similar to
that, know you are not alone because I too have been told on multiple occasions the
exact same things. The only difference between how I chose to address it and how
the majority of people in our society chose to address it is best described through my
belief and that belief goes a little something like this... I believe that doing what you

which happens to be my situation, don t let the norms of society stop you from
doing what you love. Keep chasing your career goal(s) and do not stop until you

which my career goal is deemed by the majority of society as unconventionaf
meaning not based on or conforming to what is generally done or believed. But
that being said I do not let that get me down. I refuse to let society conform me to
becoming someone Pm not and living a life that society sees fit but I see as
miserable. Some individuals just can t become lawyers or doctors or things of that
nature because that simply is not them. These people are your more creative
individuals, they yearn to do the things that are risky and sometimes even a bit out

JUST ONE DRINK is an intriguing, seductive thriller. The script is driven by themes
about evil, revenge, redemption, and forgiveness. It explores the idea that one can
never escape their past.
While there are engaging elements of the script with a potentially complex character
in the role of Tamara, overall the scriptwould benefit from more development,
especially in the area of structure, pace, tension, as well as further character
development.
First, the story opens in the past to set up the backstory. It s a creative choice to do
this, but not essential. The backstory can be revealed through dialogue or through the
grandmother s journal. Consider instead opening up with Tamara seducing or luring a
susceptible man to her home. Then ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She has the potential of being a very complex and fascinating character (like in

development. At the end, she acts like she has genuine feelings about Steve, but it s

As mentioned, Tamara and Steve also share no real chemistry with each other and
their relationship is never believable.
Steve could have been a more effective and likable character, but he also turns
sadistic when he enjoys killing Andrei versus struggling with his moral dilemma. He
essentially turned into a sadistic criminal, like the man he hates. The audience never
feels empathy for Steve or cares for him. It should be noted that it could have been a
powerful character study of watching Steve change from passive to aggressive if this
were really his story.
Andrei could be a more deceptive charmer. Why he s speaking at the school isn t
convincing. He really never says anything that warrants him speaking to a classroom.
Elevate his dialogue to be sharper and wittier. His dialogue sounds too forced and
contrived in the opening scene when he explains why he s sadistic. There s too much

The profit of exporters decreased significantly, because most Chinese exporters relied
on the refund of export tax to maintain their business under such fierce global
competition at that time. To avoid or reduce loss, exporters rushed to export their
cargo before July 1st, which resulted in serious overbooking in June and incurred a
large demand of shipping capacity, accordingly, the price of ocean freight per
container sored to the highest in past ten years and many shipping companies made
additional orders to build new vessels. While, the next year, 2008, the global
economy crisis broke out, recession weakened the purchasing power of Europe
dramatically; consequently, export from China to Europe declined sharp. Freight
dropped. Also large amount of shipping capacity became free. It is probably the
toughest time for container ocean freight industry. It is essential to analyze the
demand, price and revenue management in this industry.

Demand Analysis
Ocean freight industry depends on international trade totally. The demand of ocean
freight drives from good exchanges, that one area exports its most competitive
merchandise to other areas. Ocean freight industry enables the goods to be circulated,
promoting international trade growth. Compared to air freight, the cost of container
ocean freight is much lower, though the transit time is longer.

Citizen Kane Analysis Essay.pdf

  • 1. Citizen Kane Analysis Essay Crafting a "Citizen Kane Analysis Essay" can be a challenging endeavor, requiring a comprehensive understanding of the film's intricacies, historical context, and cinematic techniques. Charles Foster Kane, the central character, is a complex figure, and unraveling the layers of his life demands a keen analytical eye. Delving into the film's narrative structure, symbolism, and cinematography necessitates a thorough examination, often involving multiple viewings to capture the subtleties. Moreover, the cultural and historical backdrop against which "Citizen Kane" unfolds adds another layer of complexity. A successful analysis requires a nuanced exploration of the socio- political climate of the time, as well as an understanding of Orson Welles' creative choices and how they resonate with the audience. Expressing one's thoughts coherently is another challenge. Formulating a thesis that encapsulates the essence of the analysis, structuring arguments logically, and presenting evidence effectively are crucial aspects. Additionally, balancing personal insights with scholarly perspectives adds depth to the essay but requires a delicate touch. The essay's success hinges on the writer's ability to synthesize information from various sources, incorporating critical perspectives while maintaining originality. Articulating a clear and compelling argument demands not only a command of language but also a mastery of film analysis terminology. But in order to make dreams come into a reality, it takes an awful lot of determination, dedication, self discipline, and effort. This quote is saying that before you can make your dreams come true, you must work hard and not stop until you reach your dreams. This has to do with our topic because Jesse Owens showed these traits when he was competing in the 1936 Olympics. Isabella: Hitler believed that his race of people would beat African Americans in the Olympics. Jesse Owens still raced in the Olympics and won four gold medals. It is important because no matter what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Someone told her to shut down all of the cameras and recordings because Jesse competing wasn t important. He walked away and she told one of her workers who heard the whole conversation to keep the cameras running because Jesse Owens will be important in history one day and the whole world should be able to see it. The next event Jesse won a gold medal and she got it all on camera! I guess we can say she also took a stand because she stood up to Hitler and the guy who told her to shut down her cameras by saying Jesse will be important in history one day. Another reason would be running her cameras when she wasn t supposed to and videotaping someone who wasn t
  • 3. Summary Of How To Tell A True War Story By Tim O Brien Tim O brien, an American novelist, has a complex, but creative meaning in his story How To Tell a True War Story . My interpretation of the story is that the person telling a story has the power to create the connection between the reader s opinion, emotion, and the story being told. Throughout the text O brien proves this by making statements to support his claim, but then contradicts himself afterwards. In this story O brien uses a war story because of the conflicting information giving from the story and what actually had happened. To make a connection between the reader s opinion and the story Tim O brien uses examples of what he is trying to interpret within the story. Starting off the story he states This is true (O brien 67), later... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A true war story, if truly told, makes the stomach believe (O brien 78), is the point where I believed the story s meaning lies in the actual story. The reason is, O brien talks about a feeling that is created after hearing the story. This feeling is an indicator that the story and emotions had a link that went hand to hand with one another. It supports the idea that how a story is told can influence a person s opinion and or emotion regarding the story. In the end the meaning does lie within your head, but is created based off of what is said in the
  • 4. Critical Assessment of Marketing Communication Strategy INTRODUCTION Tourism is the second largest contributor to the Indonesian economy after oil and gas (Osman, 2009). Income from tourism totaled USD6.3 billion in 2009 with 6.5 million international arrivals and is expected to increase to USD15 billion in 2010, providing direct employment to nearly 2 million people and 6.8 million people overall (World Travel and TourismCouncil, 2010). Realizing that tourism has larger impact on employment and promotes trade opportunities and development of the country, the Government of Indonesia has increased the annual budget for tourism, allocating USD229.3 million for 2011 (Citrinot, 2010) for both development and promotion of the industry. With a total promotion budget of USD50 million, the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... HOME 3 Indonesian tourism currently does not compare well with its neighbours Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore. Not only has Indonesia to compete based on almost similar offerings, it also has to overcome the challenges of terrorism and natural disasters, twin challenges that has several countries issuing travel warnings against travelling there. Further inter connectivity within the country is not fully developed. Target Markets and Segmentation As stated above, the Board has targeted arrivals from 15 countries. It is unclear if these markets are further segmented. However, based on the VITO websites located in those countries (where available in English), we noted that there are attempts to focus on specific themes in the different markets. For example, the websites of the Australian VITO are more focused on outdoor activities whilst the MiddleEast website was more on culture and shopping. The remaining websites appear to be similar.
  • 5. What Have You Lost By Naomi Shihab Nye I never thought the day would come, the day I would lose someone so important to me, my grandma. My grandma was the best grandmother ever, she was caring and loved all of her children and her grandchildren. Elizabeth Kubler Ross has her five stages of grieving that I had went through after my grandma had passed. In the book of poems What Have You Lost, Naomi Shihab Nye selected various categories of poems. The two poems I have selected have to do with the loss of a grandmother. These poems, Tutu on the Curb and Where on this Earth have different views on the loss of loved ones. My grandma was a very strong woman, she always was helping others before herself. Lines from the poem, Tutu on the Curb are very descriptive and remind me of my grandma. For example, Her hair all pin up on one bun (3), her blue Hawaiian print muumuu/ blowing in the wind (6 7), and also, her hair so grey! (10). All three of these lines bring back many memories of her before she got sick. My grandma had been struggling with an uncommon disease for a while and every month she got worse and worse, until she was just skin and bone. It got so bad that she was too weak to walk and soon lost her ability to talk. Everybody knew it was time for her to go, we did not want her to suffer anymore. On a certain December day, the nurses told us that it would be her last day. So all of my mom s sisters and brothers came to say their good byes. Some of my older cousins, my sister and I also came. Comparing Movies Minority Report And The Martian Precious Okechukwu Mr. Wynn Williams ENG3U 19 December 2016 COMPARATIVE ESSAY ON THE MARTIAN AND MINORITY REPORT A comparison between the movies Minority report and The Martian demonstrates how both movies differ and what makes it significant on its own. Minority report is a movie that is based on the year 2054. It is mainly about a special unit of the police department called Precrime. Precrime is a department that arrests murderers before they can commit the actual crime. The heart and brain of precrime was based on the visions of the three precogs who were used to stop murder before it happens and whose prophesies about the future events are never wrong. In the martian, after the great storm attack the team leader, Lewis thinking that one of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the martian, Mark said I m not gonna die here...None of these matter if I don t get to NASA . Mark though he would die in mars but he changed his own fate. He changed it by making plans for his life in mars and preparing ahead. In the minority report, one of the major question that was asked was whether the future is accurate or whether free will could alter the future. We don t choose the things we believe in; they choose us (Minority report, Burgess). This free will does exist because when the murderers control their actions then, the precogs visions are but the facts that occurred from their choice of action. John tried to change his destiny but since there was no minority report which means there was no alternative fate for John, the only way he could change his future was by his choice of action. The only similarity that can be found in their fate and destiny was that they were both supposed to die but in the end, both changed their
  • 9. Symbols In The Awakening The Awakening there is vast usage of symbols such as the sea, houses, birds, clothing, and children. i)For example Kate Chopin uses allusions to children to convey that Edna is in some ways a child. Throughout the book we see the awakening of many characters but most importantly we see Edna s awakening. Her awakening takes place as a rebirth, a new start, but this rebirth is from a perspective of a child, thus once she undergoes her awakening she stops caring for others, fails to think realistically about her future and her actions, just like a child would. The usage of children has more complex meaning then symbolizing her awaking, they also symbolize the inspiration of her to commit suicide, she does because she cares about how her children s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We will begin with her husband who unlike the rest of her lovers he loves Edna and their sons. Although he wishes Edna would change her attitude and be the women that society expects he still loves her and cares for, though since he is gone on trips most of the time he has little time to understand and know her true feelings, this is why the spark in their marriage has been slowly fading away. Now Edna s first lover Robert Lebrun unlike her husband Leonce Pontellie, is a young man who enjoys becoming the attendant of different women of Gran Isle each summer, although he cant be taken serious by women most of the time, mainly because the way he expresses his love towards them is very comical and in a over exaggerated manner, as time goes by and they become friends he finds out that he truly loves Edna, but is confused from pursuing the love of his life, and from the value that she is the possession of Mr. Pontellier. Now unlike Robert and Edna s husband; Alcee Arobin is seductive, charming, he knows how to work with the ladies, he can be said to be the Don Juan of New Orleans, all though he lures in women for fun, he never gets committed, and ironically his specialty are married women, he enjoys conquering them. We can see that Edna love Arobin, although he doesn t necessarily show it to her emotionally, but he does meets her physical
  • 10. Persuasive Essay On Reaching Goals In Life Just Keep Climbing Imagine being over eight thousand meters above sea level, blind with altitude sickness, dizzy from lack of oxygen, and still having to muster the strength to push through blankets of snow at a nearly sixty degree incline. Reaching goals in life sometimes feels like one uphill climb after another. The most important thing to remember is to keep a positive mindset during the entire journey. Nothing is too great to accomplish because If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, Move from here to there, and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you (New International Version, Matt. 17.20). This sets out the true analogy between reaching the summit of a mountain and making a dream into a reality. I aspire to achieve pure felicity in everyday moving forward. I will attain this goal by living boundlessly, building candid relationships, and attending Harrison School of Pharmacy at Auburn University. To live without limitations and confinement is to live boundlessly. One must have intrepidity through every good and bad day that comes along to exemplify this. Everyday that one receives on this earth is another chance to broaden horizons. Time is precious just like the Word of God is to one who may be going through strife. I am going to spend my free time in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, the Ocoee River in Tennessee, and the Talladega National Forest in Alabamabecause I don t want to
  • 11. The Value At Risk Management Most people who have invested or are considering investing in any financial asset, ask at some point in time the following question: What is the most I can loose on my investment? The Value at Risk, commonly known as VaR, tries to answer this question within a reasonable bound. VaR is used in financial mathematics and financial riskmanagement as a risk management tool to measure the risk of loss of an individual asset or a whole portfolio. Although it provides a good sense of risk one is undertaking, it shouldn t be an alternative method to risk adjusted value and or other probabilistic approaches. In the following lines, we first give a general description of the VaR and the story behind its development and its applications. We then... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Financial institutions, mostly commercials and investments banks, use the VAR to gauge the amount of cash they should hold in their reserve in order to be able to cover the potential loss. Although the term Value at riskhas not been used till the1990s, the origins of its measure lie further back in time. The arithmetic behind the VaR were developed by Harry Markowitz (1952) in his studies of effects of asset risk, return, correlation, and diversification on probable investment portfolio returns which contributed to the modern portfolio theory. In fact, the trigger of the use of VaR came from the crisis that tormented the financial market and the regulatory responses to these crises. After the great depression of 1929, the Securities Exchange Act established in 1934 the Security Exchange Commission (SEC), a federal government agency in charge of regulating stocks and options exchanges. Since the SEC initially required banks to keep their borrowing below 2000% of their equity capital, Banks developed risk measures and control devices to ensure that they meet the capital requirements. In the 1970, the introduction of financial derivatives markets and floating rate exchanges have significantly increased the volatility, which is the risk, in the financial markets. The latter was confirmed by the failure in 1995 of Barings, the British investment bank, by the unauthorized trading in Nikkei (Japan s stock
  • 12. Comparing Krush Grove And Do The Right Thing In Spike Lee s Do The Right Thing and Michael Shultz s Krush Grove, the various sights and sounds that are present from the beginnings of the movies are used as tools to portray the different African American experiences that are present in both films. In the opening credits of Do The Right Thing, Public Enemy s Fight the Power can be heard while a women dances. In this case, the imagery and music are used as tools to help establish a setting that the movie takes place in. The sights and sounds in the opening credits help transport the viewer to the streets of Brooklyn in the late 1980 s, where the majority of Do The Right Thingtakes place. Similar techniques of creating a setting using sights and sounds are used throughout Krush Grove.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Author Guthrie Ramsey states in Musing New Hoods that the music used in Do The Right Thing depicts a range of associations that include black male and female subjectivity, ethnic identity, a sense of location, emotional and mental states, a specific historical moment, and the perspectives of age groups (Ramsey 314). The various characters in Do The Right Thing such as radio host Mister SenМѓor Love Daddy (played be Samuel L. Jackson) and Radio Raheem (played by Bill Nunn) use hip hop music to establish a sense of location, emotional states, and ethnic identity that is present throughout the movie. In one scene, Radio Raheem is shown in a confrontation with a group of Latinos playing Salsa music. Radio Raheem proceeds to blast his hip hop music at full volume in order to outplay the Latinos Salsa music. This is another example of how music is used in the film to display the ethnic identities of individuals, as well as the various emotional and mental states that music can create. In addition to hip hop music, Spike Lee implements a variety of music genres in Do The Right Thing in order to create a certain ambiance and feeling. The use of orchestral music throughout the film plays an important role in establishing specific emotions during scenes. Jazz and soul music are also used to display emotion during various exchanges between characters. According to Victoria E. Johnson, the music used in Do The Right Thing serves to convey a romanticized vision of community in the ethnically mixed neighborhood in which the story takes place (Ramsey 315). In Krush Grove, director Michael Shultz uses various musical performances to display the many aspects of hip hop culture and the African American experience. Similar to Do The Right Thing, Krush Grove s use of imagery and music help portray the ethic identities,

We got up and jogged across the field and back to get our legs moving again, and it was not hard to keep myself from going too fast. I toed the line, and we were off in the opposite direction this time, to keep our legs working evenly. My first 200 meters again took 45 seconds on pace for a second six minute mile. The next 200 meters were half a second slower, and the following 200 meters half a second slower than that, and so forth until I had lost 14 seconds off my previous time. Everyone, it seemed, had lost a step from their first time, and for good reason. There s not enough oxygen in the world to maintain our first lap paces. The modified rest time did nothing to alleviate the lack of energy in my legs or oxygen in my lungs. As I lined up for a third mile, I began planning. Through oxygen debt and ever increasing 200 splits, I formulated a way to be able to stand by the time the practice was over. It went like this: As I rounded the curve of the track, I d stumble and walk off into the outside lanes. I d have a slight limp, and after a few moments I d tentatively shake out my foot. An ankle roll would be the perfect guise, for it would make the clear best choice to stop for the day, but in a few hours after the workout I could make a miraculous total recovery . By

Leopold states, All ethics so far evolved rest upon a single premise: that the individual is a member of a community of interdependent parts (p.2). Our Earth is truly a gift and it is a good gift from God. Genesis 1:31 states, God saw all that we made, and it was very good . We need to change the way that we look at the Earth. Normally if we get a really nice gift we treasure it and do our best to protect it. This is the same mindset that we need to have about our land. Secondly, we do need to recognize that we have dominion over the Earth. God created us to take care of the Earth. In the beginning God created the Heavens and the Earth and then he created man to be stewards of it. It is important not to get to crazy and do things to harm the Earth but we must also remain healthy. Humans come before the land and they always should. Lastly, when living on Earth we must make good decisions. These decisions should be based on what our teachings tell us and our common sense. The process of gene cloning will provide potential answers for questions and puzzles concerning cancer, aging, and inherited diseases, and will help provide a better tool for scientific health research, human and animal alike. But what exactly is gene cloning? It is a process in which a small portion of genetic information (a piece of DNA or gene) is removed from one organism, and introduced into a host cell (Wong, 4 5). In order to accomplish this, the gene is first inserted into a vector, or small piece of DNA. The vector then acts as a vehicle (Wong, 4 5) and transports the gene into the host cell. The act of this transportation into the host cell is called transformation, and the host cell becomes known as a transformed cell. This is where the gene containing vector is replicated or cloned into identical cells (Wong, 31 34) Important discoveries led to this ability to clone genes. In 1970, scientists Howard Temin and David Baltimore were able to isolate the first restrictive enzymes, named Reverse Transcriptase, which cut DNA in particular locations (History of Cloning). These enzymes, after cutting the DNA, leave what are known as sticky ends, which are then healed by enzymes called ligase (McKinnell, 8 11). Then in 1972, Paul Berg from Stanford University successfully combined two pieces of DNA to form the first

A subject to subject relation, or the I Thou relationship, (as opposed to the subject to object relation, or the I It relationship) is the essential experience of reality (Buber, 1958). The I Thou relationship involves an awareness of unity between subjects. It is an experience of mutuality. Utopia and the Condition of the Working Class brought to light the wealth gap and inequality within societies and how the conditions we are brought up in affects our future. The authors of these books also point out the insecurity of people, as well as poverty and self interest. Society has changed since the early days, but there are quite a few never ending issues that still affect our societies today. Grouping people into classes has been an everlasting issue, and it will continue to be an issue as long as people exist. Giving people a class they fall under is a result of the gap between the rich and poor. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences was created with for this has served as a nucleus of quality control for American Actors and Filmmakers since it was established in in 1927. At that time, the Art Science of stunts had not evolved to the point where it required an Oscar. However times have changed and the industry has evolved. Award winning films like The Revenant and Mad Max: Roads of Fury use stunts and action as fundamental element to their success. If, but until they create a Stunt Oscar, Action Movie Fans will be stuck with the leftovers. As long as there is not an Oscar for Best Stunt Work, Line Producers will continue to without proper accountability in place. The reason there is so much bad action in today s market is no one is held accountable for the quality of the action in a film. Other than a select group of smart directors and producers (JJ Abrams, Stephen Spielberg, Alejandro Gonzales Inararritu to name a few), filmmakers don t fight for the team and resources they need to make their action great. Essay On Becoming A Snare Drummer When looked upon correctly, failure is the world s best teacher, showing people both what they ve done wrong in their experiments and trials, and where they can improve for their next attempt. In my life, this has been my highest held philosophy. Experiencing failure and improving yourself based on that lesson is fundamental to success. A fragment of time in my life where I experienced this was when I moved to my first season of snare drum in the drum line. In the summer before tenth grade, I had accomplished my aspiration of becoming a snare drum player. However, I swiftly discovered that my journey as a drummer was far from over. I struggled to do the simplest things, such as playing diddles (double strokes) and having control over my sticks.

When we do it, we consider it to be very simple, but it is actually a very complex movement, involving many different muscles. Many muscles are involved, some more than others. I will first talk about the ones used the least. The shoulder girdle involves muscles that are key to the movement, but are mostly used in stabilization of the shoulder. The Trapezius and the Rhomboid muscles are stabilizers of the shoulder along with the rotator cuff muscles including the Supraspinatis, Infraspinatis, Teres Minor, and Subscapularis which provide dynamic stability of the shoulder. All these muscles are key, but are not involved much in the actual movement. The Serratus Anterior is commonly used in movements drawing the scapula forward with slight upward rotation, and would be used in shooting the basketball and works in conjunction with Pectoralis Minor. Now we will get into some of the muscles actually doing the work when shooting the free throw. The Deltoid, which is one of the most important muscles involved in any shoulder movement is responsible for the movement of the Humerus. Any movement of the Humerus will involve the Deltoid. The Coracobrachialis assist in flexion of the shoulder. Other muscles involved in the cocking phase of

  • 42. The Importance Of Courage In King Arthur Oftentimes courage is defined as the absence of fear, when in truth it is the acquired ability to move beyond fear (Quizio). This is evident in Guy Ritchie s King Arthur: Legend of the Sword. The film initially portrays the main character, Arthur, as an arrogant and egotistical conformist that, despite his strength, is unable to face his fears of the past. As the story develops, Arthur s character develops tremendously along with it. His development motivates others, and himself, to believe in his destiny. Arthur s newly developed courage and confidence allows those around him to rely on his destined role, while also encouraging others to either adopt the quality or forsake it. Despite the fact that courage is required to accomplish all of the aforementioned actions, there are several traits that Arthur acquires before achieving it. This awards Arthur with an abundant amount of honorable attributes while also offering England a just and humble King. In Guy Ritchie s film King Arthur, courage impacts Arthur s self and others, as it allows him to conquer fear, and to inspire bravery, while developing the necessary qualities to do so. Guy Ritchie s film King Arthur, demonstrates the way that Arthur and his community are impacted as he acquires courage to face his fears. When Arthur is introduced to his destiny, his initial reaction is to deny it due to his fear of not only giving control to the sword, but also because of the memories it brings forth. He killed to keep them silent, thinking that he could still retain his cover. Iago was foul, because he did harm to others only to satisfy his own appetite. His plot ended in the most unfortunate way, and it s end didn t justify the means, because he got caught. Othello slew Desdemona for honor and justice. The difference in his character before and after the temptation scene is remarkable. Iago literally tore Othello apart and rebuilt him, instilling in him a whole new set of facts and ideas. Othello killed himself when he realized the truth, because his old self was already gone, not to mention the love of his life. His suicide followed the instant that he stepped out of delusion, and his death was an awakening, because it shattered the misconception of truth. Thoreau begins by outlining his project: a two year and two month stay at a crude cabin in the woods near Walden Pond. He does this, he says, in order to illustrate the spiritual benefits of a simplified lifestyle. He easily supplies the four necessities of life (food, shelter, clothing, and fuel). He meticulously records his expenditures and earnings, demonstrating his understanding of economy, as he builds his house and buys and grows food. For a home and freedom, he spends a mere $25. Following is a description of the sounds audible from his cabin: the church bells ringing, carriages rattling and rumbling, cows lowing, whip poor wills singing, owls hooting, frogs croaking, and cockerels crowing. Solitude: Thoreau rhapsodizes about the beneficial effects of living solitary and close to nature. He loves to be alone, for I never found the companion that was so companionable as solitude, and he is never lonely as long as he is close to nature. He believes there is no great value to be had by rubbing shoulders with the mass of humanity. Visitors: Thoreau writes about the visitors to his cabin. Among the 25 or 30 visitors is a young Canadian woodchopper, whom Thoreau idealizes as approaching the ideal man, and a runaway slave, whom Thoreau helps on his journey to freedom in Canada. The Bean Field: Thoreau relates his efforts to cultivate two and a half acres of beans. He plants in June and spends his summer mornings weeding the field with a hoe. He sells most of the crop, and his small profit of $8.71 covers his needs. The Village: Thoreau visits the small town of Concord every day or two to hear the news, which he finds as refreshing in its way as the rustle of the leaves. Nevertheless, he fondly but rather contemptuously compares Concord to a gopher colony. In late summer, he is arrested for refusing to pay

I Believe In This Essay Rather than beginning with a typical I believe in this... statement, I m choosing to start my essay out a bit differently, some might even use the word unconventionally which is coincidently a word that s going to show back up later, but I digress. I want to ask you, the reader, a question.Have you ever been told you can t do something? Has someone ever told you that your goal or aspirations aren t realistic? Perhaps they ve even went as far as telling you that your desires are impossible. Well ifanyone has ever in your life told you that or anything similar to that, know you are not alone because I too have been told on multiple occasions the exact same things. As I mentioned I have a very similar situation in which my career goal is deemed by the majority of society as unconventionaf meaning not based on or conforming to what is generally done or believed. It explores the idea that one can never escape their past. While there are engaging elements of the script with a potentially complex character in the role of Tamara, overall the scriptwould benefit from more development, especially in the area of structure, pace, tension, as well as further character development. First, the story opens in the past to set up the backstory. It s a creative choice to do this, but not essential. The backstory can be revealed through dialogue or through the grandmother s journal. She has the potential of being a very complex and fascinating character (like in FATAL ATTRACTION or BASIC INSTINCT), but this will require more development. At the end, she acts like she has genuine feelings about Steve, but it s not convincing. As mentioned, Tamara and Steve also share no real chemistry with each other and their relationship is never believable. Steve could have been a more effective and likable character, but he also turns sadistic when he enjoys killing Andrei versus struggling with his moral dilemma. He essentially turned into a sadistic criminal, like the man he hates. The audience never feels empathy for Steve or cares for him. It should be noted that it could have been a powerful character study of watching Steve change from passive to aggressive if this were really his story. Andrei could be a more deceptive charmer. Why he s speaking at the school isn t convincing. He really never says anything that warrants him speaking to a classroom. Elevate his dialogue to be sharper and wittier. His dialogue sounds too forced and contrived in the opening scene when he explains why he s sadistic. There s too much
