Sample Introduction For Essay
Crafting an essay on the topic of "Sample Introduction For Essay" can present its own unique
set of challenges. Firstly, there's the inherent meta-nature of the task itself – you're essentially
tasked with writing an introduction for an essay about writing introductions, which can feel like
a recursive loop of introspective analysis. This self-referential quality adds a layer of complexity,
as you strive to strike a balance between providing a clear example while also offering insightful
commentary on the purpose and structure of introductions.
Additionally, there's the pressure to create an engaging opening that not only hooks the reader's
attention but also sets the tone for the rest of the essay. You must navigate the fine line between
being informative and avoiding clichГ©s or trite expressions that may detract from the overall
effectiveness of your introduction.
Furthermore, since introductions serve as the gateway to the main body of the essay, there's a
need to succinctly outline the topic, provide context, and establish the thesis statement – all
while maintaining coherence and cohesion within a limited word count.
Balancing these elements requires careful consideration of language, structure, and rhetorical
devices to ensure that the introduction effectively fulfills its dual role of capturing the reader's
interest and providing a roadmap for what lies ahead in the essay.
In conclusion, while writing an essay on the topic of "Sample Introduction For Essay" may seem
straightforward at first glance, the intricacies involved in crafting a compelling and informative
opening can prove to be quite challenging.

LLCs are similar to corporations, but can be taxed as a partnership. In California,
the LLC can have either one owner or two. Regardless of the number, these owners
carry the legal title of member. The LLC provides a shield for your personal assets
just like a corporation. Partnerships In my opinion, it is better to have died a small
child then be in a partnership. Unfortunately, many business owners form
partnerships and don t even know it. This occurs when they go into business with
another person. If no business entity is formed, the law considers the business to
be a partnership and treats it accordingly. Partnerships are dangerous for one
primary reason: a partnership does not provide any protection from liability and, in
many ways, invites personal liability. Under well established law, most
partnerships are classified as general . This simply means that all the partners are
contributing to the administration and running of the partnership business. This
classification can have grisly results. In a general partnership, each partner is
jointly liable for the debts of any other partner arising from the business. For
instance, you and your partner go to a business dinner with a client. Your partner
has a drink and then a few more. They then get into an accident on the way home.
Each of the partners is liable for the damages claimed by the injured people. That
means YOU! Even if you were not in the car, did not rent the car, never saw the
The Stanford Encyclopedia Of Philosophy
The Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy defines ethics in business for the lay
person. The study and implementation of ethics is not a study of right and wrong
because those words have no meaning except to the party defining them. The Stanford
Encyclopedia of Philosophy reports,
In concept, business ethics is the applied ethics discipline that addresses the moral
features of commercial activity. In practice, however, a dizzying array of projects is
pursued under its rubric. Programs of legal compliance, empirical studies into the
moral beliefs and attitudes of business people, a panoply of best practices claims (in

Ethical leadership is the process of influencing members based on values and beliefs
that are determined by the ethical standards put in place. Ideally, ethical leaders
should determine what values to build the organization on based on the ethical
standards put in place by the leaders. However, a leader s personal moral or ethical
standards may conflict with the ethical standards determined by the company.
A leader s personal moral or ethical standards may conflict with his/her company s
ethical standards. A leader might feel something the organization does is unethical. A
leader might support the overall goals of the organization but feel the actions taken to
accomplish the goals are unethical. Keeping personal ethics separate from
professional ethics reduces conflict; however conflict cannot always be avoided and
certain steps should be taken when reacting to moral dilemmas.
If a personal and professional ethical dilemma involves an illegal action, do not do
the illegal action; breaking the law, unless it is an unjust law, is not proper
behavior in the majority of cultures. If a personal and professional ethical dilemma
develops, discuss the full details of the situation honestly with a superior. If a
personal and professional ethical dilemma develops consider the cost compared to
gain of your possible actions. Maybe it is the personal cost to the business gain or the
opposite with the business cost to
Gatsby and Hamlet Essays
Examining Hamlet and The Great Gatsby
1/9/13
According to Roger Lewis, The acquisition of money and love are both part of the
same dream, the will to return to the quintessential unity that exists only at birth and
at death (41). In both William Shakespeare s play, Hamlet, and F. Scott Fitzgeralds
novel, The Great Gatsby, the protagonists are willing to sacrifice all that they have in
order to achieve their unrealistic objectives and ambitions, resulting in their tragic
demises. While there are many themes and concepts relevant to both Hamlet and The
Great Gatsby, their parallels regarding their aspirations stand out for further
evaluation. The concept of sacrificing all that a person has, not limiting to their own
life, is ever ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jay Gatsby spends years of his life involved in illegal activity in order to accumulate
enough wealth to be able to throw many parties, all for a possible chance to see his
love once lost, Daisy. In this, both Jay Gatsby and Prince Hamlet are willing to
sacrifice all that they have, not limited to themselves, in order to achieve their
unrealistic goals. In comparison, Hamlet is content with altering his life and his
current relationships, all for the sake of being closer to his ultimate goal, vengeance
for his father.
Hamlet lacks faith in G d and himself. Consequently he must define his existence in
terms of others... He would like to become what the Greek Tragic hero is, a creature
of situation. Hence his inability to act, for he can only act , i.e., play at possibilities
(Auden, W.H)
Hamlet is willing to act mad, ruining all of his relationships, not limited to his
romantic life, for a futile opportunity to get close enough to Claudius to kill him.
Although both Jay Gatsby and Prince Hamlet are willing to sacrifice all for their
aspirations, Gatsby puts on a false front, while Hamlet covers his; Gatsby pulls a
facade as though he had been wealthy throughout his entire life, while Hamlet feigns
insanity. Gatsby has attempted to pull a facade of him having always been wealthy,
thus allowing him to be part of Daisy s circle. Gatsby claims to have inherited his
vast sum, hiding that he had actually self accumulated it over the years. By
College And College Education
Today people disagree about whether going to college and getting a college degree
is worth all of the hassle. To some entering the workforce out of high school is
better than going to college to get the education required to do a job. The
difference is in how someone was raised and what he or she believes. This is also
shown in what kind of career that someone wants to do and the education required to
do that job. Statistics show that people with an associates degree make one hundred
twenty seven dollars more in median weekly earnings than someone with a high
schooldiploma (Unemployment). Some argue that going to collegeis not required to
get a good well paying job. There is truth to this argument in the form of the trades.
These include jobs like construction, tile masons, and plumbers. Jobs such as these
provide services for people that they typically can not do on their own. The contrary
is also true. People can get a well paying job by going to college as well. Some
careers from here are a graphic designer, an attorney, or a doctor. These jobs pay
well, but the amount of years required to attain the certification to work in these
professions is more than if you were to go to a trade school and learn a trade. Another
discouraging factor is the cost of a college education compared to a trade school.
Trade schools can be several thousands of dollars but come nowhere close to the price
of going to a universityor smaller college for several years. Another drawback is

Economic Impacts Of The Cold War
The Cold War was a period of economic, political and military tension between the
United States of America (USA) and the Soviet Union (USSR) from the 1940s to
the late 80s after World War II . It was called the Cold War because there was no
large scale fighting directly between the two nations, which was probably due to the
differences in ideologies between USA and USSR, the distrust between two
countries, and actions in the Soviet zone of Germany had significant impacts on
these two countries. Undoubtedly, all of these views were about the Cold Warwas an
intense struggle for power between two nations.

into eastern and western countries. The eastern sides were the Soviet s allies with

with each other, they became very unfriendly and their relationship turned out
extremely cold and filled with tension. At last, Stalin turned out refuse to

Thus, these actions led to the creation of satellite nations in Eastern Europe. These
two countries created tension and distrust each other, most importantly, both sides
had access to lethality nuclear weapons. And all of these factors were the central
causes of the Cold War and lasted for almost half century.
To conclude, the distrust between two powerful countries led to Cold War, it had
comprehensive implications in the international affairs. It not only raised citizens fear
of war but also to against humanity. The unnecessary disbursement in the armament

The 60s Scoop
The 60s Scoop refers to the systematic removal of indigenous children from their
homes to be put into foster homes or for adoption by child welfare authorities. This
matter caused great emotional traumas, such as being the inability to express one s
feelings and the stress of being taken away from one s family, for those who were
taken as well as their families. Drew Hayden Taylor s play, Only Drunks And
Children Tell The Truth, depicts these traumas on Janice, an indigenous woman who
was taken from her home as a child and raised in a white household. As the play
progresses, one sees Janice on her journey as she recognizes and reconciles her
disconnection from her biological family.
This disconnection can first be seen through Barb, her sister. Initially, Janice is
reluctant to open up to Barb. In fact, Janice deflects Barb s attempts to be sisters by
saying, Friends are easier (Taylor 38) in response to Barb saying she wishes that they
could be sisters. Furthermore, although it may not be her intention, Janice withholds
saying anything personal about herself to Barb. She defends this by saying she has
said more than enough about her life and how she found her and her mother, Anne...

For instance, shortly after Barb blames Janice for their mother s death, Janice
breaks her prim and proper (74) attitude and punches Barb in the face as she spills

my whole life was her fault... I was all prepared to dislike and pity some old Indian
woman that lost me because of alcohol. Instead I find this wonderful, sweet, caring
woman... I started to care, Barb, but I didn t want to care (101). Furthermore, at the
end of the play, Janice finally accepts the fact that Anne is her mother that loved her
which can be seen through Janice s final words in the play to her mother s grave: Co

Essay on Killer Angels by Michael Shaara
Killer Angels by Michael Shaara
Most people think of the Civil War as a military battle between the North and South.
Without studying the subject, they do not appreciate the facts that make up this
historical event. When one reads the novel, Killer Angels, the reader is given a much
better perception and understanding of what actually happened during the war. Killer
Angels, by Michael Shaara, is a realistic historical depiction of the great battle of
Gettysburg, which left 50,000 Confederate and Union soldiers dead, wounded, or
missing.
The novel is set up in chronological order of events that took place during the four
days of the bloody and decisive battle of the Civil War. The tale is told from an

General Lewis Armistead, and Colonel Joshua Chamberlain.
The main generals for the South were Lee and Longstreet. For the North there was
Buford and Chamberlain. These men truly believed in what they were fighting for.
Chamberlain s sight on Little Round Top was very moving and courageous. I
realized all the things the men had to give up and how amazing it was to see that
they still had hope they would win and be back home with their families. I enjoyed
how the book made me feel like I was directly involved with the incidents that
occurred. The book instills in one s mind what a battle fought during the Civil War
was actually like. This is a tremendously moving novel, completely unforgettable.
Throughout the book, the reader is exposed to the pain, difficulty, anguish, and
other dilemmas the armies face leading up to the final confrontation. There is
extreme loss and unimaginable pain expressed as General Lee realizes that he is
close to losing the war, as quoted in the book, No blame can be attached to the
army for its failure to accomplish what was projected by me . . .. I alone am to
blame, in perhaps expecting too much of its prowess and valor . . . could I have
foreseen that the attack on the last day would fail, I should certainly have tried some
other course . . . but I do not
Criticisms In An Inspector Calls
Criticisms in An Inspector Calls An Inspector Calls is a very thought provoking
and rousing play. It was obviously written to make a strong point and illustrate the
social gap between classes. This play was written in 1945 and since then, times and
situations have changed enormously. However, this play still has great relevance
today due to the fact that as a country we retain strong upper class societies who are
very definitely detached. In the following essay, I aim to outline the many arguments
and lines of thought that this play incites. To illustrate this I will use extracts from
the play. I will also use my own thoughts and opinions: Before the Inspector enters,
we are already forming opinions and views on the... Show more content on

When you re married you ll realise that men with important work to do sometimes
spend nearly all their times and energy on their business. You ll have to get used to
that, just as I had. Not only do these comments illustrate the fact that Mrs Birling is
desperate for the marriage to go ahead, it is also an obvious sign on the progression
of the times. Nowadays, women and men are treated with equal importance in
marriage and business, this shows the distinct difference between the sexes. When
the Inspector enters, the Birling family have just been partaking in a celebratory
dinner. Mr Birling has given a speech, and just said, a man has to mind his own
business and look after himself and his own. When he says this, it immediately
gives the reader a very definite view of Mr Birling. He is instantly thought of as a
pompous middle class man, a very stereotypical character. At this point, the
Inspector enters. As the play unfolds, this could be seen as a very defining moment
of the play; the Inspector entering as soon as we have been given a specific account
of Mr Birling and he has just given a very typically arrogant and snobbish speech.
As it becomes clear why the Inspector is visiting, each character tends to react and
respond differently. The Inspector questions Mr Birling first, and he seems
particularly hard and firm with him. Mr Birling continues to create a very
Field Reflection Essay
Before coming to the field exercise I was so busy with other things that I honestly
didn t think much about it. At some of my old churches I was in sort of leadership
so we would go to the other people houses in the church and would pray for each
other. I thought that this experience would be similar to that. In those times we
would eat and then fellowship and while everyone was there we would pray for the
people who needed or asked for prayer. I expected that this experience would be
similar to that one in which we would pray for people and then see what was
happening. I did not expect much talking since I knew a lot of people from my
very introverted class was going to be there. Me personally was having such a
busy week that I knew as soon as I felt a strong presences from the Lord it was
going to be a good time. The only thing I felt nervous about going was that I had
never gotten something from the Lord that I could really tell was from the Lord. It
mostly feels like what I think or goes along with something that I had experienced
so I am never really sure if I should say anything or not. During the couple of hours
that we were at the professor s house it was a very laid back setting and we all just
sat around and talked and prayed. To start everything off the professor asked if
anyone needed prayer and then things just went from there. During the experience
there was no super spiritual ritual or thing we had to do we just had to show up be
ourselves and listen to what

Graphic Designers Work And The Work Of A Web Designer
Throughout the vast selection of jobs within the Media and ICT sector the two that
are vastly known and that I shall look into are a Graphic Designers work and the
work of a web designer. Both jobs have similarities but yet both stretch out two
different ways both having their own set of skills needed and having their different

Graphic Design
The Internet describes the role of a graphic designer as a designer in the process of
visual communication and problem solving with typography, space, image and
color[1]. Through the use of both paper work (Drawing) to computer work with apps
such as Photoshop, design etc.
There are many responsibilities within the job of a graphic designer, such as a
graphic designer must deliver the work to the highest standards of his/her ability,
they have a role to present work that is new not just plagiarised from earlier artists .
Most Graphic Designers will plan on paper or on and electric tablet before going
straight to the computer this is done to show clients what to expect and is easier to
change for them. Graphic Designers also have a responsibility if not self employed
to communicate more with marketing and other parts of the work place to show
what s need done after, such as producing. Graphic design is just another link in a
chain to help create a client s product online or an real product.

The Scarlet Letter And The House Of Seven Gables
On July 4, 1805, while most people were celebrating Independence Day, one of the
greatest influential writers of the Dark Romanticism Era was born. Elizabeth Clark
Hathorne and her husband Nathaniel Hathorne Sr. gave birth to a baby boy. Little
did they know, this little infant would develop into one of America s most famous
authors of all time. Most Americans are familiar with his greatest works like The
Scarlet Letter and The House of Seven Gables. Through the influence of his past
ancestors, his dark childhood, his college experience, and his fellow author friends,
Nathaniel Hathorne (Hawthorne) is one of the most renowned authors of the
Romanticismperiod which took place during the late 1800s.
Nathaniel Hathorne was born into the family of William Hathorne. William was
one of the magistrates who sentenced the Quaker women to death during the Salem
Witch Trials He was born into a family with a very strong Puritan heritage. As he
grew up, he was ashamed to be related to the Hathorne bloodline of William
Hathorne. He was, as Hawthorne later characterized him, a bitter persecutor of
Quakers. In particular, was solely responsible for ordering the whipping of Ann
Coleman. Hawthorne refers to this ancestor as a persecutor of Quakers. Due to this,
he eventually changed his last name by adding a W to it. He did this in an attempt to
conceal his relation to William. His heritage affects him majorly throughout his entire
life (Bloom 11; Nathaniel Hawthorne Web).

Dehydration Of 2-Methylcyclohexanol And
Introduction
An elimination reaction is when an atom or group of atoms, the leaving group,
leaves the molecule along with the loss of a hydrogen atom that is part of an
adjacent carbon that results in an alkene (Ketcha, 98). Dehydration is an example of
an elimination reaction. Just likes its opposite (hydration, the addition reaction), it
could also result in multiple products: one product would be major where it is one
that was mostly form as it is mostly stable, and one is the minor which is less stable
then the major and least likely to form (Ketcha, 98).
The mechanism of dehydration is a three step process. First the protonation of the

Slumming 19th Century
Slumming It
In order for the government to accommodate for the unprecedented population boom
during the Industrial Revolution that took place in 19th century Britain, millions of
people were shoved in cramped and hastily built compartments known as slums,
lacking sanitation and basic necessities. Unfortunately these conditions are prevalent
in modern day Mumbai, where massive amounts of people migrate to the city s slums
in search of jobs and opportunities. The Mumbai government has posed inefficient
solutions to the issue of overpopulation, all of which result in the demolition of the
residents homes without due compensation. What the people need is a solution that

As Mumbai boomed on the back of its port and textile mills, poor peasants flowed
in from the land in search of job opportunities to provide a roof over their head
(Beddoes). For many of the impoverished, the ability to start small, undocumented
businesses was not only a source of income, but also an attractive force that drew
them to the slums. As more people came to live in these slums, the amount of space
diminished. In a 2010 census, it was found that there were roughly a million people
per square in a slum called Dharavi (Beddoes). As the population increased, the
living conditions became a lot worse as now instead of flowers and trees lining the
sides of these [narrow] streets, there lies trash, sewage and dead animals
(Parussini). Slums are already very small and now trash takes up half of the street
leaving no space for proper homes. On one side is a family of 12 living in a 90

people share a similar area (Beddoes). When families finally run out of space, to

abundance in people, these slums have become hard to live in, but because these
slums provide shelter and a source of income, many people are forced to overlook

African American Stereotypes Essay
The Portrayal of African Americans on the Big Screen African Americans have
endured many years of mistreatment and oppression. Even though slavery and
segregation ended hundreds of years ago the mockery of African Americans
continued. Media portrayal of African Americans includes many negative stereotypes
such as: all blacks are lazy, uneducated, oversexed, rebellious, untidy, and zany. Much
of African Americancinema displays brutal harshness such as repression, racism, and

displayed oppression such as loyal servants, mammies, and butlers which just

world. This dependence is so powerful that we often re evaluate our judgements of
self efficacy, perceptions, as well as comprehension judgements when they contradict
others judgements, in fear of rejection. The knowledge, evaluation and control of one
s thought processes are often referred to as metacognition. Metacognition primarily
pertains to the processes whereby one estimates and reflect upon one s awareness
and understanding regarding one s own cognitive (rational) processes or anything
related to them (i.e., how one perceive, remember, think and act) (Flavell, 1979). Of
interest here is not how does the person execute these processes but what do... Show

Nelson and Narens (1990) conceptualized metacognition into a basic framework as
operating at two interrelated levels summarized in Figure 1 below: the objective level
(i.e., information about one own cognitive capabilities, as well as understanding how,
when and why to use strategies and allocate cognitive resources) and the meta level
(i.e., the regulation aspect of learning).
Figure 1. Nelson and Narens (1990) construction of a metacognition panel illustrates
theoretical mechanisms comprising of meta level/object level and two relations in
terms of the direction of the flow of information between the two levels. Adapted
from Nelson and Narens (1990) cited by Nelson (1992).
Although there are many diverse definitions regarding metacognition, the central
questions pertaining to metacognition have been the accuracy of metacognitive
judgements (i.e., the correspondence between subjective and objective indices of
knowing and the factors that affect that correspondence) as well as the cognitive
processes fundamental for the strength, control and accuracy of these judgements
(Dunlosky Metcalfe, 2009). In particular, recent psychological studies have assessed
the role of metacognitive judgments in better understanding students
Direct Response Marketing Essay
Direct response marketing is a marketing effort aimed at driving immediate action
from specific action from the targeted audience. Such action could be an opt in mail,
calling to a provided phone number, clicking a link or buy the suggested product. It
differs from mass market which simply reminds prospective customers of the
existence of products and services for them to purchase. It runs on the idea that the
more times clients see a particular ad, the more they are likely to buy. Direct response
marketingon the other hand, targets a particular segment in the market and attempts
to move the clients to act immediately

The response steps provided are very easy to follow. For example, one could be
asked to give their phone number or email address in order to get an eBook. With that
information, marketers can contact the prospect beyond initial contact.
Soft sell tactics are employed. There is always valuable information that is passed
to the client in exchange for capturing the prospects details. The information offers a
solution to the customer s problem. In addition, there is an irresistible offer that
comes with the action that the marketer needs the prospect to take. Other follow up
strategies via other media such as email and social media are added up. The client is
asked to take action within a specified period of time.
.
Likely challenges encountered
The likelihood of achieving success from the marketing effort depends on the ability
to get quality leads. Thus there are several things that must be done right to achieve
this. Here is a list of challenges involved.
The marketers must target the right market segment. This segment must be willing
and able to buy the service that is being offered. Poor targeting ends up with
prospects that are either not interested or do not have the capability to pay for the
service.
The offer must also be appealing to the clients. If the client does not see the urgency
to act now , then the campaign loses its set goals.
The timing of direct response marketing efforts must be at a time when the clients are
Analysis Of The Poem The Roses By William Faulkner
Save The Roses
In the short story A Rose for Emily , William Faulkner uses the rose as a symbol for
Emily and how she lived her life. Like humans, roses live a beautiful life and then
die when it s their time. While people like to save roses because they possess
sentimental value, Mrs. Emily tried to save her loved ones who passed away.
Some thought maybe she was just a woman you would give a rose. Which ever
reason, the way Mrs. Emily was raised gives reason for her weird and sickening
actions. Regardless of if she had a good excuse or not, Mrs. Emily s actions would
have never been allowed or overlooked in this day in age. In our society we carry
with us many different options, religions, friends, families, personalities and even
jobs that wouldn t allow these things to happen. All of the events in this short story
make me wonder What If this happened around my home, in my neighborhood ,
wouldn t everyone would be applied? There are so many people like Emily around
the world and the only reason we are aware of them is because people stepped up
and stopped looking the other way. Mrs. Emily Grierson, is definitely seen as a
strange character in any reader s opinion and a character analysis of Emily would
definitely go in countless directions. In the story the reader witnesses Mrs. Emily
having a hard time dealing with several of life s hardships. Emily s own self
depression, anxiety and her disconnection from the community is what brings most of
the events to
Credible In The Media Analysis
In a work where news gets thrown in our faces right , left and center , it becomes
difficult to filter out which news is true and which is not. But , before asking how
to filter out the news , we need to ask ourselves why should we have to categorise
the news as credible or non credible ? Why would the person writing this article
wouldn t want to lie to me ? Many times a journalistmay get a story from a source
who may or may not be very honest or in some rare cases journalists may make up
stories with twisted facts and misquoting individuals. However, in the media
business , when someone makes a mistake , there s always ten others who are
waiting to point it out. What makes the media credible, to the everyday reader, is the
idea that the

Themes Of The Lost Generation
The 1920s were times of loss for the United States. After seeing countless deaths of
soldiers in a war many didn t believe in, the years after World War I were times
when people lost hope in classic principles such as bravery and courage. The Lost
Generation were people who saw the horrors of the war throughout their life. Ernest
Hemingway shows major themes of the Lost Generation through his stories after the
war; he shows the pursuit of decadence in Hills of White Elephants, impotence
through Soldier s Home, and idealism through both stories (O Connor).
While there is always some pursuit of decadence in all people throughout the ages,
the years after World War Iwere times when hedonistic views were most prevalent.

courage to break into it (Hemingway). It being the complications and drama of
trying to have a real girlfriend. Krebs describes his need to live a life with no more
consequences: alone. Krebs is a great representation of many of the Lost
Generation, wanting to live the rest of his life in solitary to reduce complications.
Additionally, we see Krebs cope with the war by reverting back to his childlike
nature. This encounter between Krebs and his mother shows us that regression, I
know, Mummy, he said. I ll try and be a good boy for you (Hemingway); this act of
returning to childhood is a way he can justify his impotence. Many people in the Lost
Generation lost all motivation to go on with a normal life, Hemingway shows this
theme well through a lonely soldier named Krebs (O Conner).
Krebs and the man in Hills of White Elephants pursued life after World War I in
different ways, but they both idealized their relationships with women. Krebs liked
looking at the girls in his hometown, but he didn t want the drama of pursuing them.
He compares the normal women from his town to the women from France and
Germany whom he couldn t communicate with, which created a mainly friendly
relationship. Comparatively, the man from Hills of White Elephants romanticizes his
girlfriend Jig. The man is very
Comparing Wealth In Beowulf And The Song Of Roland
In the poems Beowulf and The Song of Roland, the authors chose to emphasize
wealth as a reflection of the customs and traditions of the respective countries.
Because both cultures favored heroic deeds, those who displayed the most heroic
actions were appropriately rewarded in the form of material wealth. Generally, the
more affluent members of society took on the responsibility of rewarding honorable
actions because they had the means available to reward the soldiers. The king,
sometimes called the ring giver, also dispersed wealth as a way to guarantee loyalty
and bravery from his soldiers. Additionally, nations often exchanged wealth as a
method of ensuring peace between the two nations. In contrast to the expected
generosity of those with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The story of Beowulf begins with a short narrative of Shield Sheifson. Though he
began as a foundling, he grew to be a great hero who was widely admired for his
courageous actions and heroic achievements. During his funeral, the narrator states
that ...they [Spear Danes] stretched their beloved lord in his boat, laid out by the
mast, amidships, the great ring giver. Far fetched treasures were piled upon him,
and precious gear. I never heard before of a ship so well furbished with battle
tackle, bladed weapons and coats of mail. The massed treasure was loaded on top
of him: it would travel far out into the ocean s sway. The decision to begin the story
with Shield Shiefson was a way of introducing the theme of wealth and
demonstrating the respect he received for his heroic achievements. The story goes
on to tell of Beowulf s adventures, as he takes on various challenges in an attempt to
make a name for himself and gain wealth through heroic deeds. Before receiving
his reward, Beowulf presented king Hrothgar with Grendel s arm as proof of his
victory during battle. After his second battle, he returned with Grendel s head as
well as the hilt of the magical sword he used to kill Grendel s mother. Because the
kings often rewarded his heroic deeds with treasure, Beowulf gained a great amount
of wealth
The Reluctant Fundamentalist Essay
Fundamentalism is a strict adherence to a set of ideas or beliefs that are conservative
in nature. It is a pejorative term usually associated with religious fanaticism. Usually,
this is what comes to mind when there is mention of a fundamentalist. However, in
Mohsin Hamid s The Reluctant Fundamentalist starring the protagonist Changez, a
Pakistani Princetonian who is a top ranked employee at a prestigious New York
valuation firm, turns out not to be an Islamic fundamentalist, but a reluctant

Hamid, through his choice of names, brilliantly doubles his characters as motifs. All
the significant characters have a symbolic identity and thus, he is simultaneously
telling two stories, but not in the traditional sense expected of a frame story, for this
is not a story within a story, but rather, a story behind a story. The frame takes
Changez back to the past, but when he finishes retelling the past, the frame is no
more and the reader is back in the present. Therefore, when the past is put in
conjunction with the happenings in the cafe, only one story is being told. The
second story is conveyed through the interaction of the motifs and requires a little
intuition (not that much) on the reader s part to decipher its meaning. In using the
motifs to convey a variety of messages, the relationship between Changez and Erica
is especially saturated with clues of their secret identities. Erica had only one
previous lover, Chris, her childhood sweetheart who died of cancer in late
adolescence and whom she is never able to let go. Initially, she was severely
depressed but eventually recovered from the ordeal. However, as Erica s intimacy
with Changez grows, so does her feeling of nostalgia. The September 11 attacks
triggers a relapse in Erica and she becomes more and more obsessed with Chris. She
rejects Changez physically and is only able to have sex with him when they pretend

Wow! My eyes popped out. So this was ballet. The beautiful and gracefulness of the
dancers. Of how the worker together as a team, but still shine bright as an

Libertarianism And Anti-Landmines
Motorolla, a multinational telecommunication company was involved in selling
electronic parts to mine manufacturers, indirectly contributing to the deaths caused
by anti personnel landmines. Back in January 1996, the news broadcasting
Motorola s semiconductor chip being found in a Chinese made landmine in
Cambodia spurred public debate over the company s ethical code of conduct (HRW,
1997). Anti personnel mines are explosive weapons built to harm and kill enemies,
they are placed just below the grounds to eliminate mass enemies during the war.
During that time, particularly in the USA people were aware of the atrocities
produced by anti personnel mines and the public held various campaigns to combat
against it. Despite war having ended, unexploded... Show more content on

In accordance with consequentialism, their actions are considered to be wrong
because of the atrocities produced by landmines inflict massive harm to the human
welfare. One million people have been killed by exploded landmines(Care, 2003). In
fact, a utilitarian would calculate the sum of all the pleasures that result from
Motorola selling its components to the Chinese mine manufacturer and subtract the
suffering that this action has caused anyone involved. Bentham, the father of
utilitarian also wrote, By the principle of utility is meant that principle which
approves or disapproves of every action whatsoever according to the tendency it
appears to have augment or diminish the happiness of the party whose interest is in
question (Anderson, 2004). Although Motorola has no intention of inflicting any
harm to the third party involved (in this case the citizens of Cambodia), the reality is
that the landmines being planted on the homes of these people significantly prevents
them from living a happy life. It is every individual, whether it is a single citizen or
an organisation to act in ways that will bring benefit to the aggregate utility. For a
company this means running a business that is not only concerned with its direct
benefactor, but also for other stakeholders such as local community, the environment,
suppliers and
Differences Between Weak Impermissibility And The...
In the aforementioned studies, an asymmetry is found between the footbridge and
the bystander cases which suggests that there is an independent reason to remove
any asymmetry in the personal bystander and footbridge cases. The results showed
that participants were aware of the difference between weak impermissibility and
all in impermissibility. In the first experiment, about 70% stated that is was not
acceptable to violate a moral rule and all things considered both in the personal
footbridge case. We can see a recognisable distinction in personal and moral cases,
but this was not addressed in these experiments. In addition, a philosophical
understanding tells us that when a rule is broken, it is wrong to go ahead with that
action (e.g. Fried, 1978). It is clear then from both experiments that a difference
between weak and all in permissibility is not evident (Nichols Mallon, 2005). The
results show that some people think that it is acceptable to breach a moral rule, even
one that allows killing innocent people. This reinforces the idea that people are not
absolute deontologists, and this is similar to the issues observed in the catastrophe
case. What is notable about the results is that people appreciate the recognisable
difference between weak and all in impermissibility. Moreover, the results show an
independent mechanism for two underlying ideas relating to moral judgement. One
shows that people are able to minimise bad outcomes and the other shows people

Sports, Games, and Pastimes of the Elizabethan Era
The sports, games, and pastimes of the time of Shakespeare have not just been set
aside and paid no attention to, but they have been effectively abandoned and omitted.
The Elizabethan hobbies have been thoroughly overshadowed by many modern sports
such as baseball, football, soccer, hockey, and an abundant amount of other games.
The 16th century English pastimes included many activities that were impeccable
examples of both simplicity and amusement intertwined. With all of these amusing
yet transparent games, the era was most acknowledged for theater a prominent art
that is still valued today. The sports, games, and pastimes of the time of Shakespeare
are rarely played today because they would be considered illegal, barbarous, and...

This blood sport became a lot more popular than bear baiting because of the lack of
bears in England. Bull baiting is just like bear baiting, but there are a few distinct
differences. It became very existent in Crete and Lascaux during the Renaissance
period, though it began in ancient times. People were paid to breed and train
specific dogs for this sport. They were usually bull mastiffs or English bulldogs.
These breeds seemed to have the intensity and aggression needed to take down the
bull. The dogs went through similar training as bear baiting dogs, though the
mastiffs were trained a lot harder. The dogs were trained to clamp their jaws on the
bull s nose ring and not let go until killed. They were released two at a time, and it
usually took three or four dogs to finally subdue the bull. Many dogs were pierced
by the bull s horns. The wagers on the contests were usually lower. However, the low
prices greatly increased attendance and increased participation. Bull baiting stayed
around for an extremely long amount of time.
Parliament played a big role in the end of these blood sports. More and more people
began to see the barbaric things that happened at these sports and were discouraged
by it. They finally took a stand and convinced Parliament to prohibit these sports in
1835. However, these practices continued to be secretly demonstrated. Ironically,

Puritan Beliefs Of The Massachusetts Bay Colony
In Puritan belief, life was planned according to God, and a society worked to live
out that plan. The Massachusetts Bay Colony was a closely integrated group that
worked together to fulfill the wishes of a larger community. Puritans religious beliefs
produced ideas that God s will was to lead a community based on peace. God had set
high expectations for a happy and trustworthy community. However, if a community
did not live up to the expectations, God would destroy the community. Therefore,
Puritanleaders felt the need to enforce strict rules so Puritans could not disobey the
ideals. If anyone did not conform, they were called an impostor who did not belong in
the community. If Puritans allowed freedom of worship, dissenters would not be
banished from the community because all ideologies could potentially exist
peacefully. The only time dissenters existed were in communities that limited
freedom of rights. Along with most communities, there are differences from popular
belief which leaders try to disestablish. A peaceful and harmonic community were
guiding principles for Puritan communities.

Guido created a learning tool for the singers to use as a visual reference during their
practice times known as the Guidonian Hand. The letter name of the note and syllable
were placed on a joint of the singers hand to help with the memory process of a chant,
and the visualization of the interval at which the notes were sequenced. Another
invention Guido took part of was the beginning to musical notation. He knew he
needed a uniform visual reference, that once you have gained the proper
knowledge of interpretation, could be used in every church under the rule.
Notation prior to Guido s invention was not beneficial to a singer who has not yet
heard the chant or melody before. His musical notation included colors, lines, and
clefs that specified the size of the intervals and distinct pitch. As a future educator
of music, I find myself very inspired by Guido s passion to further his pupils
musical education, even if their destinies did not foresee them becoming musicians.
Although I may have more musical knowledge than the singers in 1025, I
understood his concepts clearly and was able to relate them to modern day methods
we use today. When I was first learning how to read music, we were taught solfege
to learn the different placements of intervals and pitches, just as singers in the
Medieval era did with Guido s solmization syllables. These

Aims and objectives
During the First and the Second World Wars Europehad to witness nationalist
rivalries, which led the continent to the catastrophe. For many, those wars meant the
beginning of the end of the European civilization. Others, a minority, drew from that
the conclusion that the European capability to overcome aggressive nationalism
which caused those tragedies, is achievable by adopting the idea of the united and
peaceful continent as a common project.[6] That inspiration was to be insured by a
share of common, European distinctiveness. However, this process implies the
necessity to consider the impact of nationalism and the role of national states in a
growing trend for a united Europe. As Anthony D. Smith predicts:
The Europe of the future, if it should ever emerge, will be one of the mass
identification and loyalty to the European ideal, alongside or even in place of
national allegiances and identities, such that large numbers of the inhabitants of the
European continent will not only consider themselves to be first and foremost
Europeans but will be prepared to make sacrifices for that ideal. [7]
We can assume that a common European identity should construct a parallel between
the Union s institutions and the citizens, making them feel that the economic and
administrative regulations of the Union are something that have to do with their
rights and duties, with their identity. As the

Difference Between Parliamentary And Presidential
Democracy
Democracy is the art and science of running the circus from the monkey cage. Henry
Louis Mencken. These two types of democracy, presidential and parliamentary both
contain a number of key differentiating factors. These democratic systems distinguish
themselves as the leaders of the two democratic are elected in different branches of
their respective government, lose their power dissimilarly, and hold clear distinctions
between the head of government and the head of state.
First and foremost, the two classifications of democracy, presidential and
parliamentary, most substantial and crucial distinction is that the president of a
presidential democracy is an elected individual voted into the executive branch of
government directly by the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The difference in the two, presidential and parliament, location in the branches of
government, executive and legislative, respectively, has a critically affects the
difficulty of turning a bill into a law.
Along with the contrast in branches, the two democratic schemes further diversify as
the leaders of presidential and parliamentary systems lose their power differently. In a
presidential system, there is a fixed term limit that dictates how long the president
can reside in power: the terms of office of both president and assembly are fixed.
(Shugart and Mainwaring, pg.14). A fixed terms causes the president to be in
office with a much lesser danger of losing power, with his or her only danger being
impeachment which has been extremely rare in North American presidential
systems as only two presidents in the history of the United States have been
impeached, Andrew Johnson in 1868 and Bill Clinton in 1999. Also, this leads to
presidency having scheduled elections as the president s time is limited.
Conversely, in parliamentary, there is no fix term and an election is called on the
advice of the prime minister, thus, the prime minister does not lose his or her place
in office due to a time limit. However, the prime minister has a much greater chance
of losing his or her position of power due to the need to be supported by the majority
in legislature: The chief executive power must be supported by a majority in the
legislature and can
Delegation
Employees are the most valuable resource for the organization. Managers can work
more effectively by empowering employees who perform delegated jobs with the
authority to manage those jobs. Successfully training gives the employees the skills,
experience, and the resulting confidence to develop themselves for higher positions.
Good delegation provides better managers and a higher degree of efficiency. The
objective of delegation is to get the job done by someone else. Not just the simple
tasks of reading instructions and turning a lever, but also the decision making and
changes which depend upon new information. With delegation, the staff has the
authority to react to situations without referring back to you.

Leading refers to the management process of providing direction and involvement in
every area of the organization s development. The leading function provides them
with a support system to ensure their success. Leaders are always there for the staff,
not the staff for the leaders. Leading involves vision the understanding and
articulation of the mission and culture of the organization in a way that empowers the
people. Leading involves delegation the assignment of responsibility and authority to
persons so that they might lead within the organization. Leading involves motivation
and coaching the inspiration and encouragement of people to accomplish their
assignment. Leading involves coordination. It maintains a network of relationships
among the people of the organization. Leading involves service. Leaders make a
commitment to the well being of the organization, the achievement of its mission, the
development of its people and the impact it has on the community in which it serves.
It is important to note that power and authority are given by the organization (by its
people) to be given to the people to enable them to carry out their assignment. The
leader is there to serve the follower. It is not unusual to hear the

Don Pedro Character Foil
Do you know what a character foil is? A character foil is usually in fiction books; a
character who contrasts with another character, usually the protagonist. In the book
Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare Don John is a character foil to
Don Pedro. Don Pedro influences the story s conflict by trying to be a matchmaker,
he s Generous and Intelligent. While Don John tries to ruin the plan because he s
jealous of Don Pedro, he s Evil and melancholy.

The Carolingian Renaissance
The Carolingian Renaissance is known for the cultural transitions and great
achievements that were obtained in the 8th century under the direction of
Charlemagne. Charlemagne, who was also known as Carolus Magnus and Charles
the Great, was one of the greatest leaders during the Middle Ages. He was a military
man, king of the Franks, and was appointed as Roman emperor in 800 AD.
Throughout Europe, he was seen as a great example of an emperor and Christian
king. Not only did he revive the political system but also the cultural life of Europe.
His activities had a spectacular effect on education and culture in Francia, a debatable
effect on artistic endeavors, and an immeasurable effect on what mattered most to the

These changes included the incorporation of more illumination and decorations in the
books and the study books contained some images, but they were not illustrated with
color. This tendency grew into the Gothic period where there were bigger image
sizes but at least one if not many decorations around the page. Foliate patterns on
elaborate boarders were the common fixings integrated in the manuscript. A different
artist was utilized to work on different part of the decoration. An artist had their own
unique skill that they used when working on a certain piece of an image.
A standardized form of Latin, which originated from Classical Latin, was used in the
texts along with new formed words. Medieval Latin was most used in that time and
was a common language used by the people of Europe. In fact, this language was
commonly used by businessmen and scholars for communication, learning and
administration purposes. The texts were usually incorporated first when it came to
constructing an illuminated manuscript. Script depended on the style that was
currently being used in society and the one that were most popular. Scripts such as
Uncial and half Uncial were introduced because of the ongoing development and
usage of unique texts such as insular miniscule and insular majuscule. Before these
texts were established, the Roman letters

A Clean And Organised House
A clean and organised house not only improves its looks, but also speaks highly of
your housekeeping habit. It is important for the health and hygiene of the inhabitants
of the house. We all know that, yet we cannot also deny that the task itself does not
feel too appealing and regular spring cleaning schedule leaves us all exhausted.
House cleaning regimen
Almost all of us try to follow a house cleaning schedule that suits us. However, there
cannot be an ideal cleaning schedule, what suits you may not suit your friend. So it is
important to device a routine that feels comfortable and manageable to you. Our
hectic lifestyle makes it difficult to spring cleanse the interiors regularly.
However, you can take small steps everyday to clean one area of your house that
requires immediate attention. Alternatively, you can generally try to keep things as
organised as possible and dust off a part of your room every day before undertaking
any deep cleaning activities during the weekends.
A clean house is the most basic requirement of a fashionable home. According to the
traditional wisdom of feng shui, positive energy circulates well in a decluttered
home. Proper cleansing extends the life of your valuable belongings. Books, clothes
and accessories remain bug free. You and your family can enjoy inhaling in a cleaner
interior environment with fewer concerns for allergic reactions.
Choice of materials for a clean house
Certain materials are easier to clean and maintain than others.
Analysis of the Theme of Survival in Auschwitz Essay
Survival in Auschwitz tells of the horrifying and inhuman conditions of life in the
Auschwitz death camp as personally witnessed and experienced by the author,
Primo Levi. Levi is an Italian Jew and chemist, who at the age of twenty five, was
arrested with an Italian resistance group and sent to the Nazi Auschwitz death camp
in Poland in the end of 1943. For ten terrible months, Levi endured the cruel and
inhuman death camp where men slaved away until it was time for them to die. Levi
thoroughly presents the hopeless existence of the prisoners in Auschwitz, whose
most basic human rights were stripped away, when in Chapter 2 he states, Imagine
now a man who is deprived of everyone he loves, and at the same time of his house,
his habits,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Chapter 6, Levi tells how Kapos, beat us from pure bestiality and violence, but
others beat us when we are under a load almost lovingly, accompanying the blows
with exhortations, as cart drivers do with willing horses (67). A further aspect of
Survival in Auschwitz that reinforces the dehumanizing effect of the death camp
on the Jewish prisoners is the constant presence of hunger and starvation among
the prisoners. Food and its acquisition and consumption are a constant topic that
Primo Levi discusses because it constantly occupied the minds of most prisoners.
Levi states, We have learnt the value of food; now we also diligently scrape the
bottom of the bowl after the ration and we hold it under our chins when we eat
bread so as not to lose the crumbs (33). Bread and soup are the only things
prisoners in the camp receive and whether you are served soup from the top or the
bottom is of great importance. The prisoners would try to get soup from the bottom
half of the vat because soup from the upper portion is mostly watery broth whereas
soup from the bottom portion contains more vegetables pieces (33). The insatiable
desire for food would lead prisoners to act in very animalistic ways. Upon waking up
in the morning, prisoners would quickly make their beds and then run to the latrines
urinating while they run to save time, because within five minutes begins the
Essay about Review on President Development Center
President Development Centre or usually shortened as PDC is a facility prepared
by President University Education Foundation (PUEF) that as his name has
shown, provides place for people to develop themselves. This centre of
development was started around four years ago, with only five classes in one store

With twenty five tutors, a director and four employers (two staffs and two office
boys), PDC has developed quite a lot in its years, where PDC already has fifteen
classes in three stores and has nothing more than only languages lessons. The
services now available aside from language lessons are IT lessons, D1 for secretary

Love in Anton Chekhov’s The Lady with the Dog Essay
example
The Russian attitude toward love during Chekhov s time is very patriarchal and is
considered normal to marry for practical reasons, parental pressures or other
considerations rather than for love. The feelings that accompany love, such as
passion and spirituality, are not a societal consideration and this institutional attitude
toward human emotionis the catalyst for Chekhov s story. When a person is deprived
of love, he or she builds up a futility of life which consumes the human soul. In Anton
Chekhovs The Lady with the Dog , the readers are placed in a setting where the
main character Gurov, and his love interest Anna, are given the emotional freedom to
feel love toward one another. This freedom is the driving force in the story... Show

He does not feel anything toward women and in fact, refers to them as the lower
race (1) and that their beauty aroused hatred in him and the lace on their linen
reminded him of scales (118). As the story ends, the readers learn about Gurov s
consciousness and that his feelings towards women have changed. The motive for his
alteration begins with Gurov s love for Anna, and later these feelings makes him
sleepless and restless because of continuous thinking and dreaming about Anna.
The setting shows the time and place in which a situation occurs. In story The
Lady with the Pet Dog , the situations take different places throughout the narrative.
The story begins with Gurov sitting in a cafГ© in Yalta when he first sees the
character Anna Sergeevna with whom he becomes fascinated. Yalta is a vacation
spot and Gurov is already well known of his adventures and immoral behavior.
While on vacation there, he realizes that this place does not have too much to do
other than meet new people. Since he has already known many women vacationing
on this resort, he decides to switch his interests on the new arrivals. Once he meets
Anna Sergeyevna, the setting takes place again in Yalta near the sea. Chekhov
provides a detailed description of the sea and the romance of the location including
the chirrup of the grasshoppers, the heat, and the smell of the sea. Chekhov describes
a stroll Anna and Gurov take as the scenery
My Educational Goals and Philosophy Statement Essays
My Eclectic Educational Philosophy
Thinking back on the years of high school, I remember having wonderful experiences
both inside the classroom and out. I had influential teachers and the drive to succeed
in order to obtain a higher education. I realize that not all students have that drive to
continue their education, but as an aspiring educator I wish to seek and find that
drive in each of my students. The famous philosopher and educator, John Dewey,
once said, The aim of education is to enable individuals to continue their education or
that the object and reward of learning is continued capacity for growth. As a
facilitating instructor, I plan to pursue this aim of education with an eclectic blend of

With English/Language Arts as my content specialization, I will teach my students
how to express their ideas and/or feelings properly and how to do it well. Part of
this expression will come through venues such as writings and artwork just to name
a few. By accomplishing self expression, my students will grow to respect themselves
and others. As mentioned before, the progressive philosophy utilizes practical
activities and by using this idea, I can mediate physical interaction to teach
communication. Group work, class discussions about inside and outside issues, oral
presentations such as speeches, mock interviews if the grade level allows, and hands
on activities will help in grasping the concept.
One other vast component of communication comes from the social reconstructivism
philosophy. As the students build their relationship with their community, they will
possess the capability to be effective future citizens. Along with this capability, they
will be able to apply the fundamentals elements of society to help them make wise,
just choices in their everyday lives. An example of one of these fundamentals would
be community service and knowing how to voice their opinion as a community
member when appropriate like voting or starting an organization. The definition of
social reconstructivism education is to change the world and make society better
through education. I am a firm believer that changing the world and making it a

Sample Introduction For Essay.pdf

  • 1. Sample Introduction For Essay Crafting an essay on the topic of "Sample Introduction For Essay" can present its own unique set of challenges. Firstly, there's the inherent meta-nature of the task itself – you're essentially tasked with writing an introduction for an essay about writing introductions, which can feel like a recursive loop of introspective analysis. This self-referential quality adds a layer of complexity, as you strive to strike a balance between providing a clear example while also offering insightful commentary on the purpose and structure of introductions. Additionally, there's the pressure to create an engaging opening that not only hooks the reader's attention but also sets the tone for the rest of the essay. You must navigate the fine line between being informative and avoiding clichГ©s or trite expressions that may detract from the overall effectiveness of your introduction. Furthermore, since introductions serve as the gateway to the main body of the essay, there's a need to succinctly outline the topic, provide context, and establish the thesis statement – all while maintaining coherence and cohesion within a limited word count. Balancing these elements requires careful consideration of language, structure, and rhetorical devices to ensure that the introduction effectively fulfills its dual role of capturing the reader's interest and providing a roadmap for what lies ahead in the essay. In conclusion, while writing an essay on the topic of "Sample Introduction For Essay" may seem straightforward at first glance, the intricacies involved in crafting a compelling and informative opening can prove to be quite challenging. In California, the LLC can have either one owner or two. Regardless of the number, these owners carry the legal title of member. The LLC provides a shield for your personal assets just like a corporation. Partnerships In my opinion, it is better to have died a small child then be in a partnership. Unfortunately, many business owners form partnerships and don t even know it. This occurs when they go into business with another person. If no business entity is formed, the law considers the business to be a partnership and treats it accordingly. Partnerships are dangerous for one primary reason: a partnership does not provide any protection from liability and, in many ways, invites personal liability. Under well established law, most partnerships are classified as general . This simply means that all the partners are contributing to the administration and running of the partnership business. This classification can have grisly results. In a general partnership, each partner is jointly liable for the debts of any other partner arising from the business. For instance, you and your partner go to a business dinner with a client. Your partner has a drink and then a few more. They then get into an accident on the way home. Each of the partners is liable for the damages claimed by the injured people. That means YOU! Even if you were not in the car, did not rent the car, never saw the

The study and implementation of ethics is not a study of right and wrong because those words have no meaning except to the party defining them. The Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy reports, In concept, business ethics is the applied ethics discipline that addresses the moral features of commercial activity. In practice, however, a dizzying array of projects is pursued under its rubric. A leader s personal moral or ethical standards may conflict with his/her company s ethical standards. A leader might feel something the organization does is unethical. A leader might support the overall goals of the organization but feel the actions taken to accomplish the goals are unethical. Keeping personal ethics separate from professional ethics reduces conflict; however conflict cannot always be avoided and certain steps should be taken when reacting to moral dilemmas. If a personal and professional ethical dilemma involves an illegal action, do not do the illegal action; breaking the law, unless it is an unjust law, is not proper behavior in the majority of cultures. If a personal and professional ethical dilemma develops, discuss the full details of the situation honestly with a superior. If a personal and professional ethical dilemma develops consider the cost compared to gain of your possible actions. In both William Shakespeare s play, Hamlet, and F. Scott Fitzgeralds novel, The Great Gatsby, the protagonists are willing to sacrifice all that they have in order to achieve their unrealistic objectives and ambitions, resulting in their tragic demises. • 5. College And College Education Today people disagree about whether going to college and getting a college degree is worth all of the hassle. To some entering the workforce out of high school is better than going to college to get the education required to do a job. The difference is in how someone was raised and what he or she believes. This is also shown in what kind of career that someone wants to do and the education required to do that job. Statistics show that people with an associates degree make one hundred twenty seven dollars more in median weekly earnings than someone with a high schooldiploma (Unemployment). Some argue that going to collegeis not required to get a good well paying job. There is truth to this argument in the form of the trades. These include jobs like construction, tile masons, and plumbers. Jobs such as these provide services for people that they typically can not do on their own. The contrary is also true. People can get a well paying job by going to college as well. Some careers from here are a graphic designer, an attorney, or a doctor. These jobs pay well, but the amount of years required to attain the certification to work in these professions is more than if you were to go to a trade school and learn a trade. Another discouraging factor is the cost of a college education compared to a trade school. Trade schools can be several thousands of dollars but come nowhere close to the price of going to a universityor smaller college for several years. Another drawback is

This matter caused great emotional traumas, such as being the inability to express one s feelings and the stress of being taken away from one s family, for those who were taken as well as their families. Drew Hayden Taylor s play, Only Drunks And Children Tell The Truth, depicts these traumas on Janice, an indigenous woman who was taken from her home as a child and raised in a white household. As the play progresses, one sees Janice on her journey as she recognizes and reconciles her disconnection from her biological family. This disconnection can first be seen through Barb, her sister. Initially, Janice is reluctant to open up to Barb. In fact, Janice deflects Barb s attempts to be sisters by saying, Friends are easier (Taylor 38) in response to Barb saying she wishes that they could be sisters. It was obviously written to make a strong point and illustrate the social gap between classes. This play was written in 1945 and since then, times and situations have changed enormously. However, this play still has great relevance today due to the fact that as a country we retain strong upper class societies who are very definitely detached. In the following essay, I aim to outline the many arguments and lines of thought that this play incites. To illustrate this I will use extracts from the play. At some of my old churches I was in sort of leadership so we would go to the other people houses in the church and would pray for each other. I thought that this experience would be similar to that. In those times we would eat and then fellowship and while everyone was there we would pray for the people who needed or asked for prayer. I expected that this experience would be similar to that one in which we would pray for people and then see what was happening. I did not expect much talking since I knew a lot of people from my very introverted class was going to be there. Me personally was having such a busy week that I knew as soon as I felt a strong presences from the Lord it was going to be a good time. The only thing I felt nervous about going was that I had never gotten something from the Lord that I could really tell was from the Lord. It mostly feels like what I think or goes along with something that I had experienced so I am never really sure if I should say anything or not. During the couple of hours that we were at the professor s house it was a very laid back setting and we all just sat around and talked and prayed. To start everything off the professor asked if anyone needed prayer and then things just went from there. During the experience there was no super spiritual ritual or thing we had to do we just had to show up be ourselves and listen to what

  • 20. The Perception Of Self Efficacy, Perception, And Perception From early infancy, we look to others as a primary source of information about the world. This dependence is so powerful that we often re evaluate our judgements of self efficacy, perceptions, as well as comprehension judgements when they contradict others judgements, in fear of rejection. The knowledge, evaluation and control of one s thought processes are often referred to as metacognition. Metacognition primarily pertains to the processes whereby one estimates and reflect upon one s awareness and understanding regarding one s own cognitive (rational) processes or anything related to them (i.e., how one perceive, remember, think and act) (Flavell, 1979). Nelson and Narens (1990) conceptualized metacognition into a basic framework as operating at two interrelated levels summarized in Figure 1 below: the objective level (i.e., information about one own cognitive capabilities, as well as understanding how, when and why to use strategies and allocate cognitive resources) and the meta level (i.e., the regulation aspect of learning). Figure 1. Nelson and Narens (1990) construction of a metacognition panel illustrates theoretical mechanisms comprising of meta level/object level and two relations in terms of the direction of the flow of information between the two levels. Adapted from Nelson and Narens (1990) cited by Nelson (1992). Although there are many diverse definitions regarding metacognition, the central questions pertaining to metacognition have been the accuracy of metacognitive judgements (i.e., the correspondence between subjective and objective indices of knowing and the factors that affect that correspondence) as well as the cognitive processes fundamental for the strength, control and accuracy of these judgements (Dunlosky Metcalfe, 2009). In particular, recent psychological studies have assessed the role of metacognitive judgments in better understanding students

Like humans, roses live a beautiful life and then die when it s their time. While people like to save roses because they possess sentimental value, Mrs. Emily tried to save her loved ones who passed away. Some thought maybe she was just a woman you would give a rose. Which ever reason, the way Mrs. Emily was raised gives reason for her weird and sickening actions. Regardless of if she had a good excuse or not, Mrs. Emily s actions would have never been allowed or overlooked in this day in age. In our society we carry with us many different options, religions, friends, families, personalities and even jobs that wouldn t allow these things to happen. All of the events in this short story make me wonder What If this happened around my home, in my neighborhood , wouldn t everyone would be applied? After seeing countless deaths of soldiers in a war many didn t believe in, the years after World War I were times when people lost hope in classic principles such as bravery and courage. Generally, the more affluent members of society took on the responsibility of rewarding honorable actions because they had the means available to reward the soldiers. All the significant characters have a symbolic identity and thus, he is simultaneously telling two stories, but not in the traditional sense expected of a frame story, for this is not a story within a story, but rather, a story behind a story. The frame takes Changez back to the past, but when he finishes retelling the past, the frame is no more and the reader is back in the present. Therefore, when the past is put in conjunction with the happenings in the cafe, only one story is being told. The second story is conveyed through the interaction of the motifs and requires a little intuition (not that much) on the reader s part to decipher its meaning. In using the motifs to convey a variety of messages, the relationship between Changez and Erica is especially saturated with clues of their secret identities. Erica had only one previous lover, Chris, her childhood sweetheart who died of cancer in late adolescence and whom she is never able to let go. In the aforementioned studies, an asymmetry is found between the footbridge and the bystander cases which suggests that there is an independent reason to remove any asymmetry in the personal bystander and footbridge cases. The results showed that participants were aware of the difference between weak impermissibility and all in impermissibility. In the first experiment, about 70% stated that is was not acceptable to violate a moral rule and all things considered both in the personal footbridge case. We can see a recognisable distinction in personal and moral cases, but this was not addressed in these experiments. In addition, a philosophical understanding tells us that when a rule is broken, it is wrong to go ahead with that action (e.g. Fried, 1978). It is clear then from both experiments that a difference between weak and all in permissibility is not evident (Nichols Mallon, 2005). The results show that some people think that it is acceptable to breach a moral rule, even one that allows killing innocent people. This reinforces the idea that people are not absolute deontologists, and this is similar to the issues observed in the catastrophe case. What is notable about the results is that people appreciate the recognisable difference between weak and all in impermissibility. Moreover, the results show an independent mechanism for two underlying ideas relating to moral judgement. One shows that people are able to minimise bad outcomes and the other shows people have a set

This blood sport became a lot more popular than bear baiting because of the lack of bears in England. Bull baiting is just like bear baiting, but there are a few distinct differences. It became very existent in Crete and Lascaux during the Renaissance period, though it began in ancient times. People were paid to breed and train specific dogs for this sport. They were usually bull mastiffs or English bulldogs. These breeds seemed to have the intensity and aggression needed to take down the bull. The dogs went through similar training as bear baiting dogs, though the mastiffs were trained a lot harder. The dogs were trained to clamp their jaws on the bull s nose ring and not let go until killed. They were released two at a time, and it usually took three or four dogs to finally subdue the bull. Many dogs were pierced by the bull s horns. The wagers on the contests were usually lower. However, the low prices greatly increased attendance and increased participation. Bull baiting stayed around for an extremely long amount of time. Parliament played a big role in the end of these blood sports. More and more people began to see the barbaric things that happened at these sports and were discouraged by it. They finally took a stand and convinced Parliament to prohibit these sports in 1835. However, these practices continued to be secretly demonstrated. Ironically, these bloody sports

The Massachusetts Bay Colony was a closely integrated group that worked together to fulfill the wishes of a larger community. Puritans religious beliefs produced ideas that God s will was to lead a community based on peace. God had set high expectations for a happy and trustworthy community. However, if a community did not live up to the expectations, God would destroy the community. Therefore, Puritanleaders felt the need to enforce strict rules so Puritans could not disobey the ideals. If anyone did not conform, they were called an impostor who did not belong in the community. If Puritans allowed freedom of worship, dissenters would not be banished from the community because all ideologies could potentially exist peacefully. However, this process implies the necessity to consider the impact of nationalism and the role of national states in a growing trend for a united Europe. As Anthony D. The difference in the two, presidential and parliament, location in the branches of government, executive and legislative, respectively, has a critically affects the difficulty of turning a bill into a law. Along with the contrast in branches, the two democratic schemes further diversify as the leaders of presidential and parliamentary systems lose their power differently. In a presidential system, there is a fixed term limit that dictates how long the president can reside in power: the terms of office of both president and assembly are fixed. (Shugart and Mainwaring, pg.14). A fixed terms causes the president to be in office with a much lesser danger of losing power, with his or her only danger being impeachment which has been extremely rare in North American presidential systems as only two presidents in the history of the United States have been impeached, Andrew Johnson in 1868 and Bill Clinton in 1999. Also, this leads to presidency having scheduled elections as the president s time is limited. Conversely, in parliamentary, there is no fix term and an election is called on the advice of the prime minister, thus, the prime minister does not lose his or her place in office due to a time limit. However, the prime minister has a much greater chance of losing his or her position of power due to the need to be supported by the majority in legislature: The chief executive power must be supported by a majority in the legislature and can

Levi is an Italian Jew and chemist, who at the age of twenty five, was arrested with an Italian resistance group and sent to the Nazi Auschwitz death camp in Poland in the end of 1943. For ten terrible months, Levi endured the cruel and inhuman death camp where men slaved away until it was time for them to die. In Chapter 6, Levi tells how Kapos, beat us from pure bestiality and violence, but others beat us when we are under a load almost lovingly, accompanying the blows with exhortations, as cart drivers do with willing horses (67). A further aspect of Survival in Auschwitz that reinforces the dehumanizing effect of the death camp on the Jewish prisoners is the constant presence of hunger and starvation among the prisoners. Food and its acquisition and consumption are a constant topic that Primo Levi discusses because it constantly occupied the minds of most prisoners. Levi states, We have learnt the value of food; now we also diligently scrape the bottom of the bowl after the ration and we hold it under our chins when we eat bread so as not to lose the crumbs (33). Bread and soup are the only things prisoners in the camp receive and whether you are served soup from the top or the bottom is of great importance. The prisoners would try to get soup from the bottom half of the vat because soup from the upper portion is mostly watery broth whereas soup from the bottom portion contains more vegetables pieces (33). The insatiable desire for food would lead prisoners to act in very animalistic ways. As mentioned before, the progressive philosophy utilizes practical activities and by using this idea, I can mediate physical interaction to teach communication. Group work, class discussions about inside and outside issues, oral presentations such as speeches, mock interviews if the grade level allows, and hands on activities will help in grasping the concept.
